ZTE Maven - User Reviews

  • So true

  • This phone can literally go die in a hole. I’ve had it for almost a year and you can’t have more than an app without it being capped out on storage. I wouldn’t recommend this power hungry company for making this bad of a phone

  • I have had the first maven for three years since the beginning and it's been great for me. I use it every day for youtube, movies, news, and videos about 6 hours a day. As stated in other comments the internal memory is horrendous, with the 8gb quoted is more like 2.5gb free for basic apps like snapchat and Instagram. A MicroSD card is vital for any use of other apps or files. Downloading files to sdcard directly is available for some apps like vidmate and snaptube and is really the only option on this phone. Otherwise the calls and messages work fine and the touchscreen is great. The resolution is not high quality but still looks ok. I have had occasional problems with pocket dialing 911 as the' buttons' will sometimes vibrate on there own. It is a very good cheap phone with a rather large 5' screen.

  • C'mon you naysayers, this phone is the only one on the market with a button that allows you to make your screensaver blurry, what a valuable feature! Now that's useful!

  • The ZTE Maven3 Sucks! It keeps dialing out on me or dials voicemail all the time. Hangs up constantly

  • I wish I would have read these comments before I bought this stupid phone. I have had it for less than a week and it has been nothing but issue after issue. All of the storage issues mentioned are correct and it's soooooo irritating. BELEIVE EVERY BAD REVIEW OF THIS PHONE!!!!!!! DO NOT BUY THIS PHONE!!!!!

  • worst phone ive ever had...what phone doesn't let u lock your text messages...plugging it into the car charger sucked the life out of it...and many times it just started random dialing....

  • This must be worst phone ever!! Says it has 8GB, with all the proprietary programs that I have no interest in. Your left between a gig and a half gig. Which is soon as it does its updates you're out of space if you want a regular phone just to make phone calls. This phone is adequate. If you want to go on the internet play games do work. This phone is way under subpar. I thought $30 what a great price. It's overpriced by about $29. And you should give cash back on the dollar. The frustrations I've had with this phone over and over I got a 10 GB memory card just so that it could cover the updates of things I don't want. AT&T and the other companies, should not force down your throat apps you have no interest in. You should have the choice of loading Amazon their music player their radio station. Not say this is what you get. Say to you what would you like would you like Amazon here it's right here just download it. Out of a 5-star rating I would give this minus five stars. Worst phone on the planet. AT&T you should be ashamed. Outlets that sell this phone you should be ashamed. Money-grubbing corporations at its best.

  • This is the worst phone ever. Runs so slow first off, second you cant even take over 4 videos without having to delete them afterwards. Can only take so little photos or it will take so much storage and the sd card sure as hell does not help....

  • I love this phone. Its the only phone ive had where i could actually use the SD card. The only thing it lacks is memory. A decent phone for the price .

  • I'm glad this phone is ZTE so it is at the bottom of the list when you sort by name brands. This by far the worst phone and the trigger for many of Bipolar episodes. From randomly calling people, to requiring a start up and dropping icons, to placing icons in random folders and placing icons on top of icons, etc to the lack of memory and storage space. I have an expansion card in the phone and it will not download and save any app on the card, so I cannot even install all the apps I need to track my medical information.

  • Got a ZTE Maven 2 and it's the crappest peice of a phone I ever had cannot be on the web more than 5 or 6 minutes without it shutting off freezing up if you even look at it please don't spend your money on it your better of with two cups and a long string.

  • Had a Maven1. Worked fine. Very limited memory. Then, got a Maven2 because I wanted to try out the larger memory capability, I had a 32mb SD. However, I crashed very badly at a time when I really needed a phone. I only had it a couple months. My Maven 2 with marshmallow OS displayed a 'dead' little robot. That's all! Frozen! Took it to the nearest ATT. Got it up again after about 20 minutes of cycling or whatever. Went along for another month or so. Again a crash. I was in dead water again. I went back to a flip phone. I may use the Maven1 with the lollipop OS again. Never crashed on me.

  • Horrible phone.can not have a conversation with anyone with out the phone dialing other people or automatically hanging up after theory minutes

  • This phone is amazing. Anyone that wants a cheap phone should definitely use this one. It is amazing and I love my ZTE Maven 3 phone! Very durable and awesome camera!

  • The LG Phoenix is crap. I'm sure for $30 the maven is also. I bought a Motorola Droid Z Play after the LG Phoenix and I love it. One of the best phones I've ever had, and I've had plenty.

  • I bought a maven 2 in August of 2017 and three days I had to take back in to att and they said there was nothing wrong and I told the I wanted a different phone and they told me no. And I am still fighting with them to get my phone replaced. It has been 3 months at the end of November. 2017. I will never get a phone from this company again and I will not recommend any one ether. Because they only think about money.instead of the customer with a dangerous phone.

  • Completely agree. The phone is crap. Have missed a ton of texts due to the storahe problem and the sd card does not...i repeat..does NOT solve the storage issue

  • Avoid this phone and company at all cost. Phone is locked down with so much junk that 2 apps allows no more storage and they have disabled using a sim card as internal storage with MM. A company that does this doesn't want your business, they want your money for another upgrade.

  • U got the phone for $30

  • Was wondering if you might have time to help explaining how to remove at&t bloatware ?! Please and would greatly appreciate it 😀

  • At the moment it's only possible to temporarily root it. I don't know if you'd be able to remove bloadware that way, but you're free to try it out. The discussion about this can be found here:

  • I loved this phone. My only problem was not enough RAM for the apps I use, and there aren't that many.

  • I see a lot of bad comments about this phone. I have to admit, I was not expecting much since I only paid about $30 for it. Yet after using it for just a couple of days, I already like much better than the LG Phoenix (which cost me about $100) much better. For one, the battery life is much better (even better than my old iPhone 5). The LG's battery would only last about 3 hours or so, whereas the Maven stays charged all day long. Call quality is ok, not great, but again, for the price I am pretty pleased with what I have. Finally, I like the phone, it is easy to use, and gets the job done. I like the browser that comes with it, it is better than any other other mobile browser that I have ever used, including Safari, FireFox, and Chrome.

  • How were you able to do the root? Because I need to get rid of all this bloatware as you said. I am not very tech savvy and know simple things, I not a coding person.

  • i owned this phone for at least 1 year, great phone, cheap , good signal, awesome audio Dolby Audio does miracles, the only downside of this phone, is unable to get root so you can't delete useless apps from the operator.

  • I've had it a week and I'm not that happy with it. I installed a SD card and I can't find any way to access it. I can't figure out how to move things from internal memory to the SD card. And the device app that came installed on the phone is absolutely no help.

  • Programs and data will save to SD card BUT when the programs are updated you have go back to settings app and press move to SD card. It isn't enough to just mark the one spot for default memory each app must be set separately.

  • This phone was a nightmare before I removed all the AT&T bloatware that came preinstalled. It would constantly freeze up, shut down, randomly start up apps etc etc After uninstalling the bloatware the phone ran a whole lot better.

  • WRONG. I have 2 of these ZTE Maven 2 cell phones and I did set it to save on sd card and neither one of them would automatically save anything to the sd card, Not only that but it seem that the only thing you can do with the sd card is copy and past it over to the sd card, so then you have 2 copies of everything. It is treating the sd card as if we were using it like a thumb drive or a disk we would burn things we want to save in case our computer ever crashed. I called ATT tech support even they couldn't help even after being on the phone for about 40 mins. I would not buy this phone.

  • I love mine. have had it for 1.3 yrs and never had an ounce of trouble from it.

  • This phone is horrible. I am totally disabled and housebound, and MUST have a phone for emergencies. There are so many things wrong with it that tech support can not fix. Please do yourself a favor and DON'T BUY A ZTE MAVEN 2!!!

  • Go toSettings, Then to Storage, *Click on "save location" at the very top and set it for "SD card" Now all your files (photos videos etc,) will be saved on your card

  • About to get a new phone. This phone is definitely shitty. I understand the complaints. Mine acted up after three months when it did an update.

  • my phone is off since yesterday and i need a solution to on it?

  • bought this phone just this week, cannot find a way to use sd card on the phone to take load of internal memory, so far that is the only problem.

  • Love this Maven. I'm even watching DirectvNow right on the phone. For 1 gig of ram this little phone smokes.

  • Zte Maven should defiantly be recalled or, even better non existentdent

  • I received the ZTE Maven II as a free uprade from my old ATT go-phone (flip phone). I am impressed with this phone mostly because it doesn'T have any bloatware installed on it (just the basics). It does most of the things you would expect a smart phone to do (browse, email, nav. etc.) and the picture quality isn't bad for a 5MP camera. All in all I would recommend this phone to anyone looking for a cheap smart phone.

  • purchased as a temporary backup phone for $40. Gets the basics done, not too much else. Its alright for the price.

  • this phone sucks. the reasons being is that it is the most laggy phone that i have ever used, it oveeheats way to easily, and have i ever mentioned its poor quality interphase the original launcher is so bland that even a brick wall would look more better didighned, or the keyboard size, its so small! i just type and i'm pressing completely differant letters. point being, choosing this phone over a htc was the biggest mistake

  • One of the best things about this phone is that you don't have to use data to send pics.

  • One of the best things about this phone is that you don't have to use data to send pics.

  • dont get a fire phone. Their worse than Windows

  • It had a horrible glitch that left my phone unusable. I had to factory reset it and even after that the glitch was still there. The camera is awful. There's no storage space by it's all filled with bloatware.

  • This phone is horrible, the camera sucks and the entire phone is glichy, unfortunately my parent picked it out and signed a 2 year contract. DUMASSES!

  • It is an okay phone, wouldn't recommend it though. After a system update I had no control over, I was no longer able to get my apps to stay on the home page due to a glitch. Although it is cheap, I had better cheap phones than this or just save and invest in a more expensive one that will last a longer time than this cheap phone.

  • This phone is a piece of crap, I only had it for three months and it is already messing up on me. The other day it just totally froze up on me and I have nothing downloaded on it. I bought an SD card for it to get more memory and the phone says I am still running out of space.

  • I ran out of storage really quickly. After less than a year of owning it was glitching all the time. It would sometimes shut of when I'm in the middle of doing something. Also when ever I would turn it off and on some of the apps on my home screen would not be there anymore. When i tried to put them back on my phone would freeze again. Then my phone was working fine without anything wrong with it; i locked it to do something else then I try to go back on my phone and it does not turn on. My power button stopped working and without a real home button the only way to turn on my phone is to plug it in. Overall if you want a short time fix it is Okay but if you want a phone that will last you over a year not recommended.

  • Did you ever figure out why its doing this. Mine started doing the same about a week into having it

  • Downgrading to 4 stars. There are some minor design annoyances in the keybkard, muting the ringer, etc.

  • For a basic phone this is petty good. The only thing is that the AT&T Go Phone version is loaded with bloatware! So after setting the new phone and updating the apps, there is only 1GB left! Disabled all the bloatware and uninstalled the updates for them and after that, there is another 700MB available. So you'll need to keep cleaning the phone up if you plan to use it for a while. Really hope this thing can be rooted and hopefully unlocked. Wondering any one tried yet?

  • I can only view in the negative (black and white). Does anyone know how to change to correct this?

  • A dream phone! Long battery, excellent screen resolution, great price, and a beautiful minimalistic design that I can only describe as inspired. Transferring the SD card from my old phone solved the memory issue, and I don't need high-quality photos.

  • Have had this phone for a few months now, worked fine up until today when the bottom apps on the home screen started to bind together and it would flash my background and take me to the task manager. I can only use apps that Ive already used. I can't figure out what's wrong. I updated everything, there aren't any system updates. I dropped it once but that was onto my face this morning. I honestly can't figure out what's going on with this phone

  • Hahahaha I am curious as to what phones you had prior. Everything you described is wrong. The phone is ridiculously slow. The camera is horrid. The only thing good about this phone is the price

  • Cheap phone and that's what it is cheap. Horribly slow. Phone has a mind of its own. Picture quality is absolutely horrid especially through the front facing camera. There are far better phones for a few more dollars.

  • Here you go:

  • Had mine for 2 weeks now. Its a sweet little phone for the price, $30 at Best Buy. Seems to do everything fine. Got an att sim card for it and it works perfectly. It looks like the one problem is that the battery is not, replaceable, so use it wisely.

  • i want to know if this phone have MHL support?

  • I want to see the back of this phone. where can I find a picture of the back?? HELP

  • I bought this phone 24 hours ago. It worked great when I used it, no problem with service, all my apps worked, battery life lasted a decent amount of time. I was in a phone call while it was on the charger when out of nowhere it shuts off and won't turn back on. I held down the power button and the white ZTE powered by android screen will appear for about five seconds then it will be non responsive again. It won't show if it's charging, it won't turn on, and let me remind you I've only had it for ONE DAY.

  • I somewhat agree with the customer saying about the phone getting hot,I think a phone getting hot can be dangerous at first mine used to get hot then I installed a battery saver and uninstalled some apps that seems using to much phone memory and that resolved my problem.also I think when a phone battery is fixed to the phone it can be also the cause for the phone getting hot.the good part is that this phone seems to be a good upgrade from others zte devices it has good features, good camera, very responsive touch screen, very fast and plenty of memory.iam very happy with this model cheap but good features and the look of an expensive model

  • You turned it on while holding down the volume button. Try turning it off the same way. I was freaking out the first time I did it

  • Almost identical problems. Did your phone happen to begin closing itself in a crash like manor and reset the wallpaper?

  • d it 10 days and goes into Factory Test Mode. You will see a white rectange with "FTM" on the front. Stay away

  • I like the phone but i cant do nothing on it. I cant download nothing else and i only got 2 things downloaded.

  • Yes mine always gets hot wen ever am using it for a period of time especially wen the service is on

  • I absolutely adore the little phone. works great.

  • Just got my Maven from AT&T today and it seems like quite a good phone. I like Android and I had the latest version, too, which is lollipop. I installed al po my aps from a previous android account and it all went straight to the phone memory. I then installed a 32gb microSD card and now I'm moving all the downloaded apps into the memory card. Having moved all that can be moved, phone memory says I have 1.19gb left. I'm still trying to see what I can unload so it has more memory left in it. All the apps that came with it which I dont intend to use. My only concern right now is why does it get hot to touch? Its the first time I've turned it on and I'm using what battery it still has with it straight from the warehouse. But is that safe? Does anyone else have that same experience with the phone getting hot? Its not even plugged. I'm scared that it may not be safe. Someone please enlighten me.

  • stay away from this phone i can not get wifi at my hotel or at the resorts that i stay at

  • I bought this phone around Halloween (It is now may) and this phone was great (except for the lack of room for apps and stuff.) for the first few months. I was actually extremely satisfied for its price (I bought it on sale for about 50 US dollars) and I was very impressed. Then, just recently, (A few weeks ago) it stopped charging. In order for it to actually charge, you had to hold the cord at a certain angle. And even then it was a lot slower than normal. And now, it has died. and I held the cord at the proper place (Trust me, it was the right place. I've been doing it for weeks.) for about two whole hours and it never started back up. (With the exception of when it first died, I got the home screen to come up for about two whole glorious seconds) all I can get out of it is the evil little red light and the "buzz" which I will now forever hate. I decided to do some research on if, and how I can fix this problem or if it was just a defect. And it turns out that other people have had the same problems. Even with other ZTE Devices. All in all, I really don't recommend this product unless you feel like buying a new one every few months or so. (But, in all honesty, everything else about the phone I really liked. No major complaints. [Spare the lack of room for Applications and music.])

  • FYI when u buy this it says it is a unlocked cell. It will work with any provider that allows u to bring your own phone and if they have a sim that fits. cause the sim is activated not the cell. All GSM cells are unlocked when u get them 90% of the time

  • You can put a straight talk sIm card in the phone instead of a at&t simcard and it will work without being unlocled?

  • why there is no in-built radio on the phone?

  • This phone sucks did a hard reset now cant even use it anymore

  • Have you checked to see if mobile data is turned on? To turn on, use your drop down.

  • It will work on Straight Talk as well. They use ATT. Better rates.

  • I had this phone for 24 hours or less and the phone freezes when i try to open internet. Either wifi or data, freeze evertyime. Does a hard reset fix this?

  • Great phone at a great price! Compared the specs side by side to other phones (on this site),and it has almost the exact same everything as the Samsung Galaxy S4. Different glass for screen, and what very few differences there are..the avg user would never know. Had mine since they came out, ended up buying three more for family members. And I'm a tightwad,so that says something. Also,it ONLY operates on ATT,so for $45 a month, you get unlimited talk text and data. What's not to like?!

  • It has hotspot. Just place your thumb on top of screen and slide down. A bevy of functions, including hotspot, flashlight etc appear. Just touch what you wanna use and enjoy! I realise your question is old by now,but hope it helps others. Solid phone that can be had from 19-40 bucks.

  • I used to be a Windows Phone user from 2010-2015. I got tired of no apps and the hardware having so much problems being compatible with the updated software, so I finally switched. Went to LG Realm first then ZTE Maven. Now I am considering ordering a Fire Phone because I hear they are good.

  • This phone works pretty good for basic stuff, but despite having 1GB ram and 8GB memory, and an okay snapdragon processor, this phone struggles pretty bad on pretty much any game you try to play on it. Even small stuff like Tetris Blitz has a hard time. Also, the phone has a problem with memory management. Even with a 32Gig memory card in the phone, it still demands all apps install on the phone memory, and whats worse, even when you transfer the apps through app management, once you reboot the phone you will discover they all moved right back onto the phone. This wouldn't be a problem if the phone actually came with 8GB, but this phone has so much bloatware out of box (at least on ATT) that it actually has 1.5GB free to the user. Its outrageous that phone companies still load bloatware that cannot be removed without root. Ugh. I highly recommend NOT buying this phone.

  • There was an option to enable mms pictures when you set up. I tried to find it again but was unsuccessful. Don't know if it's a setup only option, or if it's hidden somewhere. But the default was that you couldn't see pics. I turned it on while setting up so I am getting pics.

  • I'm having same problem with pics...help anyone

  • I cannot open picture texts with this phone - any thoughts?

  • why when trying to hook to wi-fi does it give you a screen with a lock on it to sign in

  • I have the zte and it will charge but the screen will not come on anymore. Can anyone tell me how to get the screen to come back on

  • Susan mine is enjoyable am enjoying it reset urs, d phone Is better than lg.nexus

  • Got it for 25.00 on ebay, not as cheap as yours but still

  • Hey saw this at my local Walgreen for $14.99 on sale!! Going to pick it up as I hate my Lumia 640 (what a mistake...)

  • I know this will be bad but I had the same problem susan factory reset your phone this should fix the issue

  • Browser button causes phone to freeze when pressed. Browser never opens.

  • I have had this phone for months now and it's been a great phone! I have had Far more expensive ones that havent been much better. This was just going to be a fill in phone until I got my iPhone repaired, but I am going to keep this one for now and wait on getting the other fixed! I have seen posts about no Wi-Fi on it?? It does have Wi-Fi... The camera is not bad at all... It's overall a great phone for the price!! Anything you need that it doesn't have, you can get at the Google Play Store, probably for free and.

  • Can this phone work witout microSDHC?????????

  • It uses a micro sim card.

  • $19.99 @ Best Buy

  • What size sim card does it use?

  • it only has 4 gigabye only 3.4 are usable

  • That's incorrect. I opened one and it has Mobile Hotspot.

  • It does not have a Wii fii hot spot for other devices. How stupid is that? Guess won't even open it and just return it.

  • I got it toda y as a replacement i payed 36 dollars at dollar general store and i love it forma TVE price i was thinking to buy a more expensive phone but ill kepp this

  • Not 60 try 39.99

  • It wouldn't be a bad basic smartphone if it didn't have the issue with not having an overflow button. So apps like Fuel Log where you need the overflow button (3 dots on newer androids) you will be totally unable to use that function in those apps.

  • It is hotspot cable it a nice phone for the price

  • Yeah there's a flash

  • Had the Maven for 12 days. I carry my phone in my pocket as well as most people. While in pocket the top button got pushed and in accidentally called my emergency contacts which was only 911. Didn't know it called until police called back. It did this to me about 10 times in a week. Nice little phone. Android easy to navigate also. Design of function button on top was made for phone case or as the ATT tech center told me to just keep it in the car.

  • Yes it does. Im using it on the maven now.

  • This phone is actually decent quality for the price it is at. I can actually say that the speed and consistency of this ZTE phone makes up for the lack of a higher end camera. My favorite part is the preinstalled Android 5.1 Lollipop. Absolutely enjoy overall function and design, very sleek and slim, easy for one hand use also. If you are looking for an inexpensive smartphone I would definitely go with the ZTE Maven :-)

  • This phone is actually decent quality for the price it is at. I can actually say that

  • The specs here says it has wifi hotspot. An ad on ebay say it does not have hotspot.Which is it?

  • only thing im concerned with is size because my hands are a fairly nice size and I would hate to have a small phone I just recently had a iphone 6 so if they are compatible in size then I will have no complaints

  • There is a flashlight lol, know what you're talking about before you try to clown

  • dude, it's a $60 dollar phone, what more do you expect?

  • omg! have you seen there's no compass and no flashlight for the 5 MP camera? omg! have and, omg, have you seen the battery is quite small? and, omg, have you seen the screen-to-body ratio?

  • nice phone in this price..

  • OMG ...wht a featrs in this price...!!
