alcatel OT 535 - User Reviews

  • Design looks somewhat similar to Sony Ericsson K500

  • Please stop lying. It wasn't even made in 1994

  • I still have this phone (bought at 1994) and I also think that it's really "great" phone. As it has nice sounds, I use it now usually only like "alarm". It is also with original baterry. When I turn it on, for exemple after 1 month, it works normally and battery is full! No other of my phones can this. I hope still will serve for a long time...

  • I have mine for 7 years with original battery and it is perfect. Great phone!

  • I still have the phone; in the last years did not use it much, except in conditions where I wanted to spare my smartphones (hiking, kayaking, working). It still works, although my daughter was chewing it a couple of times when her teeth were coming, so the screen has a million scratches. SW crashed once during 4 years of active use; which is incomparable to her suitor a Windows PDA from HP.

  • Man, this baby serves me still :) (January 2011) Dropped it countless times, tho it's not indestructible it survives. Never changed battery, never had any repairs. And it still looks absolutely lovely.

  • Mine is still working (12/2010)

  • yea, mine too still working! bought April 2004. This is indestructible phone!

  • Completely agree with everything you said. And thanks for the tip about the ears. lol

  • still working july 2009! well done!

  • wowowowowwwww

  • This phone is like icecream.I mean look, desing. It,s so funny

  • Java games

  • I want to download another game, for my phone

  • This phone is nostalgia. I still have it with me although i already buy N70 few month a go. I buy this Alcatel for last 3years and its perfectly working until today. Unfortunately, if u make a call for a long hour, your ears will feel hot. (cuz its stainless steel) by the way, its a very tough phone cuz i accidentally drop it more than 20 times, and it still work, plus the navigation key is still good. (sony ericson always got problem with this kind of navigation key, if u have it for more than a year) seem its a very old model, for those who want to buy a new phone, i suggest to buy another model which has camera and easier data transfer.

  • woww..!! what a great phone man,,, i can use 3g with this alcatel, i can see my friend via video call. and it has big screen too the best is it has wi-fi.. LOL

  • I just bought this phone on ebay. Its great! and easy to use. 2 thumbs up!

  • my ot535 can't connected internet with gprs although I regestered to hotlink. when i try access internet he request to my pin number. i put in the hotlink pin number's but i am still can't access internet.

  • my ot535 can't connected internet with gprs although I regestered to hotlink

  • I need help please. When downloading I get to the page but just words come up hoe can i change it so i can download

  • first, to change (possibly) the colours, you may use: menu -> customize, and then feel free to change "colours" or "atmospheres" second, the 2 buttons below your display can be used for camera (at 735i model), but, for 535 you can use them only when you connect to internet via GPRS the button you said it can be programmed is top left of the display: one button - 2 functions for short and long press your last questions has no answer from me :) anyway, i have this phone for more than 18 months and i'm very glad about the choice i made buying it.

  • Hi, I just bough this phone as a second hand thus replacing my old OT501 and I have few questions: 1. Is there a way how to change color or font of the text on the main screen? 2. How can I program these two small buttons just under the display each side of the joystick? The manual just says 'programable buttons' but nothing about how to do it ;o( 3. Is there a way the screensaver can show there has an event happen? (SMS, missed call...) Thank you for help. Vzteklik

  • I have this phone, it's nice for its price, but the one thing I hate about it is the IR-when I bought it, I thought it would actually WORK for other things than just tel numbers... Anyway, can someone tell me what are the "landscape mode" and the "zoom" listed above? I don't seem to have used those functions on my phone...

  • ohhh ohh the ir. weii it is like the samsung you can not use this port for stuff like that only for tel numbers(may be)

  • how do u send stuff by infraed plz help

  • I tried the infrared port whit my laptop and it doesnt work, when i try to transmit *.jpg file or *.mid wich are suported my OT 535 it says the data is invalid what is the problem??? [email protected] thanks

  • alcatel phone is nice, myself love the phone.

  • It has Infrared but not open. It only can transfer contact info to other phones. If you want to upload pics or ringtones from computer via infrared, it needs an additional software.

  • Hi This is great phone. I brought it from Delhi before 9 momths. Its working superb. I have no problem in T9 in english. Its software is freely available on www.my-onetouch.com. I want to buy OT 735i from India. I m in INDORE. Can anybody help me?

  • pl help me i transfering pic through infrered but i have no sowtwear of one touch 535 from where i download it

  • It is brilliant. the most beautiful phone i've seen in a long time. very cute. i love it!

  • does it have infrared?

  • Those in India make sure that when you buy the OT 535 the T9 dictionary is in english because when I tried to input english inthe T( format I could not nor could the company official. They are planning to update the software in Delhi but I pity the people who already have that version of Alcatel.

  • a great mobile phone with low cost but a mid-end technology. You should try this phone.(i have this phone since November 2003 until now!)

  • this model works in U.S.A, ThankU

  • The hyper good phone in uncamera phone-wat phone is it -----ALCATEL OT535

  • hi there i like using this model, makes me feel trendy. thanks

  • You sholuld call the service provider for the settings for MMS. They will explain everything. This fuction is different in each country, each service provider. Or you should look for it at NETCOM's internet site.

  • It would be great if only I could send and recive MMS. Are you able to help me? I`m in Norway and connected to NETCOM.

  • I bought this phone cos it has an infrared port and I wanted to download my entries to a PC . I can xmit single entries but how do I send the whole phonebook ??

  • Where can i buy this phone polyphonic?

  • WRONG PHONE VERSION FOR INDIA The OT535 is the Minimalists Smartphone at BASIC-phone price. Show me another phone with Irda and Speaker phone and Mindblowing Outlook sync at this price ? (In India it costs just Rs. 8200/- or 152 Euro). One thing it lacks is an email client (with the current GPRS cost and performance in India , it doesnt matter as GPRS access would bring in more cost and frustration with it). Also it doesnt have bluetooth, Java and Camera (All avoidable frills in keeping with its minimalist, low-cost advantage.) I got myself an Alcatel OT 535 here in Bangalore (India) from the Bangalore distributors Rajmane Infomedia. However, on taking the phone home, I was SHOCKED to find that the phone only supported Nederlands, Francais or Deutsch for Predictive Text !!! No ENGLISH predictive text in this country where English is the only European language that everybody speaks ? Considering that all other brands here are getting head over heels to support even local languages it is a pity that Alcatel phones can come without even the basic language pre-requisite for this country English predictive text. I asked the distributors for a replacement but all their OT535s had the same problem. Ultimately the distributors were kind enough to take the phone back and refund me the price. A pity because otherwise this is an EXCELLENT phone and has the best Organizer/phonebook Irda PC sync + Speaker Phone I have seen. This phone has no competition in its class from any Nokia, Samsung, Sony-Ericsson or Siemens models simply because getting all its features in a competitor brand phone costs twice as much. NO ACCESSORIES AVAILABLE The other problem I have with Alcatel mobile phones is that inspite of their great price/feature advantage over competitors, the original accessories are not available here not even with the authorized distributor !!! Samiran Mitra, Bangalore, India

  • Is OT535 available in India? PLease answer.

  • f#%* you this phone(ot 535) suck!! i bought it last year and the is no problem with it!!

  • The both sux a lot ! The OT535 and Samsung X100. The Alcatel - its memory disapeared in a flash just 4 days after I bought it and it didn`t wont to start, because it had no sounds!!! After I manadged to Turn it On it happaneds so that I have no GAMES in it because the stuped memory was gone. About the X100 , it displays false the Call identifyer, when you get a call from Niki it displays Michael , When you get call from Sisi it displays Simon and so on ... A think in this class the winner is Siemens M55 !

  • this phone is good, but i dont know it has JAVA or not.ALso dont know its memory is how many?this phone very good.

  • hi i am insouth africa i need to dowload games i cannot why reply via the sms my phone no:+27731969778

  • so cheap at it's phone life, n very short

  • I have da same mobile, & I think its relly good, I never think that,i have ever an alcatel mobile, but when i get it i realized that its amazing! So, if i change it, not soon, i'll buy N3660, but in lower category its relly good!

  • good good!!

  • Yes, 332 can download poly tones. 535's MMS is compatible with every other MMS phone.

  • alcatel 332 can download polyphonic ringtone, yes or not?

  • Can Alcatel OT 535 to send MMS to another MMS phone?

  • x100? samsung? sorry i dunno. alcatel 'true tone' is superb!

  • which one better, OT535 or X100?

  • a bit large, the shape is 'love-it-or-hate-it' (i hate it), games are horrible, the screen is poorly lit and dissapointing (with the display that large it's dissapointing to have only 4k color when other phones offer 65k color), but overall it's a great phone, solid build quality, can record own ringtones, love the crazy sounds, and lots other 'fun' features.

  • it has 24-tone polyphony, while T310 has 32. of course it's a bit better.

  • Yeah!!! This phone is really good! I bought it a month ago. It's almost perfect. The display is fantabolous, the features, and all... Wow! This is probably the best in its class! But...! I think the sound (MIDI) isn't really good. T310 is better. But that's OK, I guess! Nothing's perfect except God. Hmm???

  • Is it possible to ajust OT535 to report calls(more than 1) from the same tel.No as different cals (or to report how many times this No calls me?) I tested one. I make 3 calls, but OT535 reports just 1 missed call(the time was from the last one ).

  • muahaha..!! 7210 vs ot535??! 535 is so much better!! 7210 colour screen is soooooo ugly! uweekkk!

  • KURT, thanks for your information (tagtag), now I can download more pictures and ringtones to my OT535.

  • i live in malaysia..how to download game? please help me.

  • very good hp..the best in its class(mobile-review.com). For alcatel 535/735 user in malaysia/singapore and around the world...do not worry about ringtone/wallpaper/animation...there's so much in wapsite and almost all is free..:-> there's a few wapsite for downlaad (tagtag.com,wap.google.com and seach for midi/nokia ringtone)It have true tone to!!(using pc data suite..download at alcatel site) Being alcatel 535 user make me proud..it better than other phone in its class. CLAPS FOR ALCATEL!!! OHYEAHHH..!!

  • I have one of these. And it totally amazes me in every aspects especially its bright colour screen. The OT 735 is already available in Indonesia a month ago and I have to say it's so much better than N7250 (w/o radio of course) but the price is only half of it. BIG THUMBS UP FOR ALCATEL...!!

  • werewolf! It is better tahn 7210 in almost everything. Display is better, sounds are better, has full mms, only thing what it doesn't know is java, and that stup radio. And I haven't said it costs about the half of the 7210. Janki! You can't send pics or sounds to another mobile via infra-red port (it works with the pc-suit), but you should wait for the 735 with the integrated camera. It'll be avaliable in Hungary in the very beginning of 2004. Ask Westel or Vodafone. No, joust Westel, those Vodafone guys are haven't got a clue of anything. :) I'm Hungarian, too.

  • Hi,I want to buy this phone to my girlfriend, but I don't know if my phone (SE T610) is compatible by this in case of infrared port. So if I want to send her a picture, can she get it by infra. It is so important...Because this phone has no camera...

  • ok then which is better alcatel 535 or nokia 7210 ?

  • It has 700 kb memory, but you can delete the games and everything except the stuff needed to the athmospheres. You'll get about 1 MB. It can store about 200 sms, and one mms can't be bigger than 50 kb.

  • There's no specific number, it depends of the free memory you have, the size of MMS, and much more stuff.

  • how many messages can it store (sms or mms) ?

  • Sorry, not youst, but just... :)

  • But you do to need it to send polyphonic ringtones. Youst think about it logically: A SMALL polyphonic ringtone is about ~ 4 kb. You want to send it by sms??? You need 3 sms to send a small monochrom Nokia picture message, and one for a 32x32 picture or a small monophonic tune via Ems. It'd take HOURS and lots of money to send poly sounds by sms...

  • you don't need MMS to send ringtones...

  • The 512 doesn't have MMS, and it only has 8-tones poliphony instead of 24. So don't dream about it...

  • can this phone send polyphonic tones by sms to alcatel 512 if yes please send me one tone on +20101951615 thanks alot it worth tryin .. and i'll be greatfull if it worked

  • You can download the pc-suite free and legal from And you don't need the cable, an infra-red port costs about the same, and you can use it for lots of other stuff.

  • yes u can use the OT535 as a GRPRS modem. but u need the pc suite to set up the connection. i've tried it and it worked without problems. i luv this phone!

  • Can we use OT535 as GPRS modem for laptop? Anyone try this? TIA.

  • ranjith, if you ask for the price, here it is 151. it's about 170US$ or 90Pounds, i think...

  • I forgot this.. Anyone has bougth the USB cable to connect the ot535 with the pc?? How much does it cost?? I've heard that i can transfer images and midi files to my mobile phone, but i'm not sure. is it true??

  • Hello. I just bought my alcatel 535, and i think it is PERFECT!!!. I've read that some of you ask about in-fusio. Well, i live in spain, and with the most important company here (movistar), i can download games without any problem, and they work ok. Today i've downloaded a game called "IF Racing". It lasted just 2 minutes to download it, and it works. (Sorry my english ;))

  • It's sorted by country, and if New-Zealand is not there, than you can't do anything. I think your service provider is not the same as in Australia... And if it's the same, it doesn't matter, as I said it's sorted by countries. (Vodafone offers that, but NOT in my country, Hungary...)

  • Oh no!!! :( anyway do any1 know which country or service provider supports in-fusio? is it possible to check to see which support in-fusio??

  • perfect

  • To download a game via In-Fusio, your service provider must support In-Fusio. If it doesn't, (it seems it doesn't), than you can't do anything.

  • A huge problem has struck me!! When I'm trying to download a game onto my ot535, it doesn't work!! Can any1 tell me why that is?? (you know how the first time you need to send a sms to the country you are in, well, because there was no selection of the country I'm in (New Zealand), I chose instead Australia which is right next to New Zealand) Be very happy if any1 can answer my problem! Thanks

  • i will like to purchase the set cos i like it and my daddy is using it and i want him to see it in my hand too ,to know that am using d same as he do .

  • Would it hurt if you'd read at least the first page??? There is the answer.

  • My OT535 works very well but what confuses is; when you set it to vibrate,it never rings like the Nokias .Why?

  • thanx 4 ur long (but informative) details on this cool phone! Cool, now I finally know how to download games. Can't express how happy I am right now!! :) :)

  • the ZOOM functionality depends on the language u are are using on ur phone. if it's english there is no need to zoom as the characters are already large enough to be read.

  • It IS exiscts. What do you mean?

  • I have a OT 535 in its mannual the word ZOOM apears but in the phone this function never exists. WHY?

  • Wow, kakadu, that was long, thanks... :) You can really download games from the my-onetouch wap-site? That'd be cool! Because there's no game writtem for in-fusio right now...

  • I decided to buy the OT535 as a replacement to my old but reliable Nokia 8210. I chose this model after carefully comparing and actually trying it with other competitor products in its class: Nokia 3100, Samsung C100 and Siemens M55. I'm not saying that these 3 products are inferior to OT535. It's just that I find this Alcatel phone better fit to my needs. Now to my review. I will not go to the technical details and specifications as you can find them here in GSMARENA. I will just tell you the features I like on this phone and perhaps, some criticisms as well. The OT535 has about the same length as my 8210. Although it is a bit thicker, I would say it is sexier with its curvy design. The sides taper down to the keypad portion. The metallic aluminum faceplate gives it an elegant and classic look. I have got the unit with a blue face-plate. MENU NAVIGATION I can summarize it in one statement: Use the joystick, moron! This is all that you'll ever need to navigate majority of the menus in this phone. It's a 5-way directional joystick--left, right, up, down and press (to confirm your action). It's a real One-Touch concept unlike the old One-Touch models where it is only 3-directional. Although you have the left and right soft keys on the phone, their only use is when you are surfing via GPRS and when viewing MMS messages. Other than that, you just rely on the friendly joystick thus allowing you to operate the phone with only your thumb. The menu presentation and structure, I would think is well thought out. Instead of giving you a long list of submenus and options, they are presented in tabs, windows-style. And each tab only presents a short list of options so as not to bore the user in browsing down a long list. SCREEN DISPLAY The phone has got a CSTN 4,096-color screen. Although it is low compared to the 65k offerred by Samsung C100, the large screen compensates for that as you can see images clearly in OT535. The phone activates a clock screensaver after a few seconds of inactivity. The exception is when you are composing an SMS and you leave it for a while. I think this is a good idea because you don't wanna start typing your SMS all over again. PHONEBOOK The phonebook or directory is organized into folders but presented in tabs as well. You have a separate tab for Simcard records (where all phone records from the SIM are kept), the General tab (which contains all the records from the phone's memory) and the Personal and Professional tabs where you can assign items from the General tab. Plus you can add your own folders if you want. This is the phone's way of allowing the user to create his own groups. Once set, you can assign ring tones to each directory and perform other actions on each item on the chosen directory such as View, Modify, Assign Image (for call identification), Classify (copy),Transfer (via IR), Write Msg,etc. The OT535 can store up to 800 phone numbers and you can assign multiple numbers under one name as well such as main, work, home, mobile, fax, pager, and other. You can also store email address, snail-mail address, personal notes (up to 4 tabs) and notes. That's a lot of information for one item. The phone supports the vCard standard so receiving business cards with other devices that support this feature like Nokia,Sony Ericsson and most PDAs is no problem. Exchanging this information with the phone's IR port is supported as well. Transferring all my contacts from my Nokia 8210 via IR worked without any problem. Synchronizing the phonebook with MS Outlook and Lotus Notes is possible with the supplied PC Suite. SMS A phone has got to be user-friendly and fast on the response with this feature in order to get my nod as a Nokia user. I'm happy to say that OT535 passed my standards as a Nokia user. I tried typing as fast as I could and the phone did not jam and was able to catch up with my typing. Cool! The only adjustment I have to make is that the space key is on the 1 key and the period (.) key is on the 0 key. There is also the T9 predictive text input if you want but I'm not comfortable using predictive text entry method. OT535 allows additional entries to its dictionary by the way. SMS messages can be stored in phone's memory by moving it to Archives (similar to a Siemens). SMS phone memory is dynamically shared with ring tones and MMS. AS of this writing, I already have 45 text messages in the Archives. VOICE CALLS Sound reception is good. It is crisp and clear. You can also use the speaker phone which I find very useful when driving. Its speaker is quite loud for a phone this size. Its even louder than my wife's Nokia 7650. Its mic is very good as well. The other party can hear my voice even if the phone is almost 2 feet away from me (which is precisely how a speaker phone should be used!). CUSTOMIZATION The phone was designed with this in mind. You can add ringtones if you want. The phone supports WAV, midi, amr, imy tones. But actually any tone can be used on this phone because of its recorder function. I tried recording Craig David's What's Ur Flava from my stereo and tested playing it on OT535. This phone rocks! I would say that OT535's polyphonic capability has a lot more bass in it. I can feel the phone thumping! The PC Suite also comes with an MP3-to-WAV converter. So using your favorite MP3 as ringtone is no problem. A color screen phone is useless without images and OT535 does not run short of this. You can choose anything from the stored images as your wallpaper. More images are in the PC Suite and the MY One Touch wapsite. Images, as stated above, can be assigned on each contact to serve as a caller ID. The phone also supports different themes (called here as Atmosphere). Menu colors can be changed as well. Speed dial and menu shortcuts can be assigned on the numeric keys. The key on the top of the screen can have assigned functions as well. The phone's voice-command features allows you to call up functions. OTHER FEATURES OT535 supports GPRS(Class 10), WAP, complete MMS (image, audio, text) with slideshow, EMS, Polyphonic tunes and vCalendar to synchronize ToDo list with Outlook and allow appointment record exchange with most PDAs. A special feature unique to this phone is Voice MMS. It allows you to record up to 15 seconds of voice memo and send it via MMS. Very useful when you want to convey emotion which is not possible in a normal text message. The OT535 also has two built in games which can be played Gameboy-style using the joystick and the 'action/shoot' key on top of the screen. You just need to rotate the phone sideways to play each game. Additional downloads are available on My OneTouch website. CONCLUSION For its price, in the same range as Siemens M55, Samsung C100 and Nokia 3100, Alcatel OT535, I think, can compete in terms of features and phone design. To those who want to try something different, I would say the OT535 is worth checking out.

  • Yay!! I just got mine today!! I love this phone!! Indeed it's a bit sad that you cannot set just vibrator and melody at the same time but overall I reckon its an awesome phone!! Time to start texting... :P

  • WAW...!!! Its so cheap!!!

  • The reason you can't put it to vibrate and melody at the same time is that alcatel uses the speaker with a very high polifonic sound that makes the phone vibrate.Last time i checked only Sony used it on J-70/J-7

  • I think it's a very good phone. Battery is wonderful (four days using it frecuently day and night; one week on normal use) Something i don't like is the sound profiles. You cannot set vibrator but using prefixed profiles (you cannot set melody + vibr or silence + vibr...) You cannot setup turning off and on times. But it's good, fast mobile phone. Good quality sound, good signal sensibility. I have not test infrared conection yet but i'll do soon. Software seems interesting. And 000000* lets you use the "Maintenance Menu" (secret menu :-P)

  • No, the 735 has a built-in camera and 1,8 mb memory for photos (535 has 700 kb.), and colours are not red, blue and stuff like that but a little more elegant.

  • does OT535 have an attachable cam?

  • Well, it has no Java, it has In-Fusio, what is different from Java. And here is a review of it: It's the best in its category for sure.

  • and what about java... gsmaren say's that; 2 - Wall Breaker , Mutant Alert + Downloadable Is this downloadable means that phone supports java and I can download java games... And hom much memory this phone gots..

  • Does anyone has bought this phone.. if yes then you woukd say some words .. what are goodies and whats bad.. I'm planning to buy this phone..

  • Good work, Alcatel!

  • this alcatel 535 is really a big hit from alcatel I gave up the nokia 7650 and the samsung t100 for this phone missing nothing but the blutooth who cares? it only lack some professional look if you plan not to look a teen but phonebook is excellent, keypad very good, display better than t68 but less than t100 size is great, ring tones are moderate but overall I give this phone 90%

  • The 7250 has MMS that you can only send jpg pics and no sound and this knows jpg and much more than 7250. You can never have problems with MMS exept if you have Nokia, because it doesn't know sound via MMS.

  • The difference between 331 and 332 is the colour screen. Like Nokia 3510/3510i Nothing else. But it's a big difference for me! :) It must be compatible with another brands. I hope I never owned an MMS phone... This should be the first. I can't wait to have one.

  • I heard that there is a model call one touch 331, is it true ? If yes, what is the different between OT 332 & OT 331. MMS is available for OT 535, what other Brand that is compatible (exemple: a photo taken from Nokia 7250 sent to OT 535 through MMS.)

  • By the way...the price will be around 200 Euro :)

  • Hehe...you should update your specifications...it's much better...it has infrared also ;)

  • Check out the nokia 9610 with all the features of today and even more....http://home.icon.co.za/~pframes/

  • This is a really cool phone. It has lots of great features plus this really good display that nokia can not match. The features are awesome

  • Good thing Alcatel have decided to do away with the previous 3-way navigation key...Where's the Bluetooth? Whats up with sending picture via an attached camera? Loks good, going by Alcatel's reputation should e dirt cheap 6 months after release.

  • Stunning design big head a bit tail.I like game boy too.
