memory too low,had to root it to uninstall all the bloatware that was installed,slow 600 MHz single core processor,512 MB of ram is ok,screen size is too small,3.5 inch,design is crappy,battery lasts for 1 minute and shuts down after powered on. DON`T BUY THIS PHONE,HAD IT FOR 2 YEARS AND SOLD IT FOR 20 EUROS.

The internal memory on the One Touch 990 is a joke. Ive an 8gb memory card and its useless because I cant install anything on the phone to move to the SD card. Yes its really that much of a problem. It still uses Android 2.2.2 so dont expect many apps to work on it.

Took ages (near 2 years!) To get used to everything so it works best.but it still crashes randomly when I'm trying to text,internal memory is so small you can't update some apps to latest version,even though I've transferred all that I can to a memory card My battery last about 2 days if I don't play any games at all on it.the data keeps enabling itself somehow too.really a poor phone and would not recommend to any1.waste of £100

I liked this phone, but i also didn't like this phone, as a teenager i like to download games and songs, but there isn't enough space, the front facing camera is very bad and blurry not good for photo taking but the back camera was ok. I would never buy this phone again, its only good for people who don't really install apps and who don't care about the lag because it is very slow, some pictures turn out quite yellow, and i always read this one in reviews which says my battery charger is broken, mine didn't work after two days if you move the phone while its charging it stops charging and sometimes it doesn't work at all, i didn't bother buying a new charger i found another charger from an old phone that worked with it which was fine by me, another thing is, you can't find any case protectors for this phone anywhere which is very bad. Yeah i'd never buy this phone again.

If it weren't for two things, this would really be a very solid phone. However, first of all, the internal memory is so small that, even when you use a program like Link2SD to put everything possible on SD card, you still run out of memory in almost no time. In stock form, you really can't add more than two or three programs before hitting the limit. Second, the battery life really isn't up to par, and the battery seems to wear out pretty quickly. You'd want a second battery, for sure. Apart from that, it's a decent phone--surprisingly decent for the price. Solid build, reasonable camera, no speed demon but not awful, can be rooted. Given how fast phones are changing these days, though, I imagine this will be a footnote before long. One other thing: Very hard to unlock. O2 (which I got mine from) couldn't do it, and several online unlockers couldn't. It is possible but takes a lot of work.

Ihave this device too. I also had the same problem, Iwas on the way to send it off, until i reestablished the factory settings (like a format), using the settings option, and the problem was fixed. It is due to internal memory shortage.Don't install updates, except perhaps for the antivirus software. Always be aware of your memory space (check by the settings option), you need to have at least 20 - 22 mb free space, and you won't have text problems again. I believe that the low price of the phone is due to short internal memory.

quite a nice phone. except the can't receive bluetooth but can send. most annoying thing is the phone can become useless whenever it's connected to whatever usb as everything is messed up. I don't bother using it when I'm charging. tethering and WiFi spot are also useless despite having downloaded all the drivers. I'd stick to samsung next time.

The other day when I got my Lumia 900 on contract I asked the store if it was possible that I could take out a contract for this phone as well, not for me but for my mom coz she's been using a Nokia 2700 classic for the past how many years and I thought she'd be better off with a bigger screen and better camera.... looks like it's going to take some time for her to get used to the Alcatel OT-990.. being in her late 60's and being used to using Nokia chocolate bar phones, this could be fun.

Still reckon this device should be given a highly prestigious award. Faults low internal memory agreed, and slower processor. But it is built so well, solid and looks and feels like a much more expensive device. I can use a much higher price device, but return to this. Currently, it is my only phone and quite happy. The screen resolution is lower than many, but even that is good as in the ratio it is it's wider than most of similar size, that aids keyboard use. Better than widescreen ratio.

there is update by alcatel for ot 990 to android 2.3.4(i.e gingerbread). use software update tool from alcatel. the new update has improved battery performance tremendously, touch sensitivty is much much better and lot of new features. it has not crashed until now after heavy use of internet which initially used to be a problem.

Totally agree about internal memory, but have found battery life is reasonably good. If low on internal memory, back-up your apps with a file manager, and do a full factory reset. When you do that you seem to gain a little extra space...orphaned files? You have to agree though, this phone is so well built.

This phone I keep coming back to use, the build quality is just so robust. For anyone thinking of using this device it is a bit slow, but still seems faster than other 600mhz phones. It has a very loud speaker...you will never miss a call unlike the Huawei Ascend G300, which is priced the same. Good screen, and in some places in the UK can be found at £40....total bargain.

I have owned Alcatel Multi-Media phones in the past, but this is my 1st experience w/a "Smartphone". I was initially impressed by the number of features on this phone, especially for the price. A lot of phones come my way, I get to assess them. Everything from Nokia Lumia 710 that crashes comstantly, it seems with latest software update etc. I buy the discounted items, like the EVO 3d, that Asda sold for £207 and now the 990 for yes £40! This is a great device, screen mega bright, so its not gimgerbread, or ICS, have you heard the audio? Loud, and fantastic quality through decent earphones, speaker too is good, twenty times more audiable than that of the original desire or recent motorola motoluxe. Camera is ok, its better than moroluxes 8mp! I used to detest Alcatel products, cheap and nasty, not this device, it is well sturdy construction, unlike the Ascend G300. Only major downside is only 100Mb of internal memory, but it runs angry birds fast, still it is only an arm 6 processor. At £40 on o2 at asda it is a steal, best deal ever!

I upgraded from the Alcatel 880. WRONG! I had issues with the Alcatel 880 but thinking the Alcatel 990 would not give me the same issues WRONG! These Alcatel phones are a piece of JUNK! I had the Alcatel 990 for three months you cannot find replacement parts their service department and service representatives are unpleasant rude and do not offer ANY assistance. BUYER BEWARE! I will NEVER buy another Alcatel I will go back to Blackberry Samsung or Motorola phones I've had better results

Worst phone I have ever owned, when it works it's good but when it doesn't work (80% of the time) it's frustrating. I've had mine 3 months, I'm on my 4th phone and I've had to restore to factory settings for various problems 11 times. Can not wait for my contract to end so I can get an iphone.

This is one of the worst mobile phone devices I have ever owned. The design is great however my sister, her fiancee and myself all have the same phone and all three malfunction continously. I did not purchase the warranty plan through my provider but I would love to Alcatel where they put this phone. It shuts off, will not connect to internet unless in WIFI hotspot during a phone call if the battery is not 100% charged the screen goes blank and won't come back on to allow you to end the call. I have to take the battery out and put it back in....over all this is ridiculous. My cheap samsung slider phone with Straight Talk was much better - pretty bad when this is suppose to be a "smartphone"

It's very cool phone. I bought it. Now it's avalibale update to 2.3. It's cool. Little disapointing that it's only 600 mhz. But it's enough for games and other things. It's very cheap, i suggest you to buy this phone if you want cool and cheap ANDROID phone. PS: When i bought this phone i got free 2GB memory card, for me it's enough 2 Gb ;). Enjoy this phone i really recommend this ANDROID

Lendry - Connect the phone to your System and it should be recognized properly by the system.In device manager it should show as Alcatel OT 990 Composite. For more info - Check with One Touch upgrade software Help manual. After that Install Superone click 1.9.1. in your system.It will install the same on your phone also.If not download seperatly and install manually in your phone. Open Super one click in your system and click ROOT. Thats All. Wait for sometime. Keep Trying for more than 5 times. Surely You can root your phone. For Link2SD App installation guide, Please visit the below link. You have to format the Memory card with Two partitions. Steps available in the above link. !!!!! Thanks.

Horrible phone in my experience. While it is an inexpensive touch phone and works great when it works, my daughter is on her second one and it is no failing to charge. The first one had the same problem where it could be plugged into a PC or wall charger and would acknowledge power, begin charging and then stop. The first issue was under warranty so it was returned to the store in exchange for a new one. Now several months later the second one is exhibiting the same symptoms. We had poor experience with the tribe model before this one but opted to give them another try. My opinion after this experience is to no only pass on the Onetouch but to pass on Alcatel in general.

My blackberry 9700 Bold with a 3.2 megapixel and LED flash does a much better job (but for $190, I am not really complaining). - MP3 player audio quality is not that good. However, I installed a free player app with equalizer and it made huge difference in quality. I am relatively happy about the quality now. Plugging a more expensive high end headphones might also help. Overall, I am happy with my OT-990. Definitely not a rip-off like some andoid phones in the market. Highly recommended. BTW, some of my desktop shortcuts disappears whenever I restart my phone. Not sure if it's a software glitch or I'm just doing something wrong since I am not familiar in using android yet.

I had the same problem. Download go launcher ex to you phone. Install it, after that reboot your phone and activate go launche as your default. Use taskmanager app to Freeze the stock launcher and dont use weather widget. Alcatel made a nice phone But their froyo kills it. Your right where is gingerbread?.

keep the display brightness to the bare minimun during night time and increase it to the optimum level where u can see the screen clearly in the day time. one more option, if u keep the sync on all the time, dont do that as it will consume alot of battery. keep the sync off and on it whenever required only.

Listen, OTU program is program for upgrading software o phone, his version has nothing to do with upgrading the phone, the new version is only slightly more stable, but still full of bugs on W7 64 bit. Alcatel has announced an upgrade for all providers of February 13th. Currently, only Russia have the upgrade. It depends on your provider, not of the program, and Alcatel. The solution to this problem is in the process of processing the operating system (root) and memory card (partition) to record programs and games on a memory card, instead of working memory. There are several applications for this technique: app2sd, move2sd, etc. Link2SD is best method to switch the card installation.

That refers to carrier branded phones. If you have an factory unlocked 990, then it should ideally upgrade with no issue. Problem is that the upgrade tool keeps timing out for me. Here's a comparison between 2.2 vs 2.3 on the 990. Gingerbread is much much faster than Froyo on the 990. Can't wait till they the upgrade tool working right.

The Gingerbread 2.3.4 update is out. Problem is that servers are so slow it fails have the time. Some have reported success but for some reason Android Market has been removed. "Dear *****, Now we have developed software to upgrade one touch 990 from Android 2.2 to android 2.3, but not all one touch 990 can be upgraded; it depends on requirement from service provider. You can try to use one touch upgrade at that moment. This is just a nice phone in this amount. But it has some software bugs/issues in it. As i observed that the image quality of front facing camera is not as like a vga front camera must have. The images are totally black/dark in low or average light as it also do not have any brightness setting option. Also the a bit dark images from the main one but we can tweak it up from the settings option (for main camera only). The battery charging issues are also there up to 95 % it charges at a good rate but above that it takes a so long time to charge. Friends, This was my personal experience on my OT-990 and cannot say if there are some more issues with other handsets.

Ok people...I have this phone....i saw somebody ask does the android games work?Yes they do more said...Alcatel OT 990 WILL BE OFFICIALLY UPDATED TO ANDROID 2.3 later this year...everything works fine for me....it got android maket and a pretty big screen unlike LG Optimus 540...I would say it has a screen of HTC and IT HAS A MULTIE TOUCH SCREEN.....I dont know what are you waiting for....i strongly recommend to buy it.

Anyone else notice how painfully long it takes for this phone to charge? Also I think the speakers need to be tweaked for a higher amplitude because I've been missing way too many calls. Anyway to get rid of the preloaded apps without rooting the phone. I hate the touchpal keyboard and all the language settings, also the games and other apps that are taking up my limited on board space. Otherwise, I'm loving this phone. For 8000 Rupees it's a steal. Better than Samsung Galaxy 3 in every which way and 5000 Rs cheaper when I got that piece of junk. TCL needs to be commended. I hope they don't dump the Alcatel branding because people are allergic to Chinese brands.

I had some difficulties when trying to connect it to pc, but now it works fine (mass storage mode does but it seems that alcatel sync software desn't work with mine telenor one touch). It reads office documents very fast, pdf is a little on the slow side thou... Camera is ok, nothing special. For this money, 50 euros with contract, it is excellent!

Its 5 mega-pixel is on a par with Samsung's 2 megapixel. The processor satisfy almost all applications. This is a great budget phone, I was a bit worried about the battery but got it solved, switch of wi-fi and data services, go to settings auto synch disable background synch, reduce screen brightness, use Adao Task manager, it stops all unwanted background tasks after the screen is locked, oh also i reduced the lockout time to 15 seconds and I am getting 20 hours plus standby with 2 hours of mixed wifi and mobile data usage, a little bit of music too! Whenever i need access I switch on the wi-fi/ mobile data switch and switch it off after use, so enjoy this great phone with superb screen clarity and good volume!.

I bought this phone about a month ago and the following is my experience with it. It is an excellent phone in its price range and there are no other phones in this group that equal the specs present in it. The box contains the following other than the standard handset,battery,USB cable and charger.A free 2GB card and pouch is present. The only reason that the phone has not become as popular as the LG P500 and galaxy pop that I can speculate on ,is that the company has done a very poor job of promoting it. The specs found on this site are accurate except for one thing.It does not contain an optical track pad the key below the display is the home screen key.It contains 3 touch sensitive keys-menu,search and back. Camera-Excellent quality in normal lighting conditions.The quality goes south as light deteriorates even with the flash .It is not very bright. Display-Bright,crisp display.Smooth,intuitive UI with zero lag between switching screens etc. It contains a secondary camera,light sensor and proximity sensor. Sound-The phone is loud I'll give it that. It is fully integrated into market and you will have zero problems downloading and installing programs as needed. It runs Froyo (Android 2.2.2).Nothing definitive about an update but their official video on Youtube does say something about it.As with froyo you can install a[[s onto SD card,unless the program itself does not support it,of which there are very few. Please remove the temp screen guard ( there is another permanent one below it ) after buying the phone as the proximity sensor cannot function properly with it blocking it's function. With EDGE on I get about 7hrs of usability.The first time after fully charging let the battery deplete to about 8% and then charge it fully.This should increase battery life.Repeat the same every 6 months or so. For increasing battery life do the following. Swith off data in settings.You can put a widget ( it is a default one ) in the home screen that allows you to easily swith on/off as needed. Again in settings put it to 2G networks only instead of 2g/WCDMA auto. If you have any questions about the phone pl. post a comment here and I'll get back to you as soon as I am able.

absolutely love this phone!! easy to handle and fast. Screen resolution is crisp,clear and very responsive to the lightest touch. Camera quality gets an A+ even though its just a 5mp. Only negative is that it doesnt allow usage of media such as camera without a memory card and if it goes to sleep you always have to press the track pad to gain access and that closes the keypad. OH n another thing the track pad doesnt scroll.

I compare the screen size of my Samsung Galaxy Fit with Alcatel Ot-990 and to my surprise this one has a much larger screen. The advantage of this phone to my galaxy fit is that it has LED flash and secondary vga camera in front and lower price. Alcatel did a great job with this phone! =)
