Eten G500 - User Reviews

  • Hi, I have this device from long, right now i have a problem with backup battery which is damage and i cannot find that in KSA, kindly advice me and help to locate

  • Am a Nigerian,i've dis G500 but de problem is de screen....it doesn't display any....how can i get de screen since i can't find it in Nigeria.

  • i would recommend that you download the proper ROM version and flash your device. The latest is ROM version 110, which is Windows Mobile 5.0 with AKU 2.2. I really like this upgrade as it is more stable than its previous ROM version (098) that it came with. One more thing, Make sure you download the "WWE 110" which mean "World-Wide English."

  • Anyone know how to change the langusage into English as it is in Chinese now

  • I had this phone. It disappointed me. Simply dont buy it. I am well off without it.

  • Hey man, i just wanna say that i have seen broken ETEN G500's on ebay that are sold strictly for parts. if you would like we should exchange e-mail addresses so we can chat and try to help each other. i have a question for you as well.

  • my microphone (speaker also) was damage, we have the same problem bro, though, the one for earpiece was not totally damaged, but it only gives a minimal sound. i'm just looking to find spare parts for that speaker. any idea where i can find a spare for my speaker. it was also buffering really hard when i'm watching large file of movies. anyway its a nice phone...

  • its really a fun phone to have if you are looking for something that maybe older in technology, but still can compete with the big guys in the mobile realm, although lacking Wi-Fi hurts its chances. it could be remedied with a simple card but then that takes up space for an actial memory card to be inserted. bu it has GPS which is helpful. this is the cousin to the M600 (which is for business/productivity people who need wi fi acess more than GPS, the G500 is the Road Warrior with its GPS). it is a neat phone. i didnt care if it was older technology. i own it for about 6 months now and i still love it even though newer and better devices i drool over are coming out. i can't spend the $$ to go out and buy a new phone right now, so this was the only option (b/c ebay is awesome and something like this was cheap as hell although the actual device is not a "cheap" device). its my first PDA/Phone and tricking it out with a new UI and stuff like that really helps my productivity. i am connected to everything i need & want.

  • it rox!!!!!

  • i bought this phone off ebay for $60 b/c the microphone is broken (i use the bluetooth anyway). one thing i have to say about the phone is that i love it. i am in college and money is very precious to me. since i can't go buy a $500 phone, this was my next best bet. i can do everything and anything with this. so what if its a bit bulky (size & weight). i appreciate the GPS harware it has (i use TomTom 6.0 with the very latest maps). i pimped the phone out so probaly thats why i am truly in love with it. it keeps me connected to everything. even for a 2 year old phone (at this point in time) i think it can still compete with today's devices such as the HTC products. yes, n wifi, but i would sacrifice it for the GPS (i know the newer phones have both). i bought a wifi card for it anyway so now i do have both. i have no comlaints with this at all. plus i have a 4 GB card as well, so i can have as much storage as an iphone (1st gen models).

  • The G500 is very exciting but no matter the settings it simply wont vibrate & with that so so low audio, i do miss quite a lot of calls and appointments... any clue to resolve this...

  • i'm using it since 2005 and i found the following: ringtone-very low battery-very poor weight-very heavy speed-very slow price-very high size-very big

  • Have had the Eten G500 for 6 months very good i am operating copilot Live 6, for australia and have been to UK & europe they all have worked great. small complaint ,wish the phone audio was a bit louder.

  • Hey, guys!!! Before I though that this phone like my Eten M600 has Wi-Fi. :( But it don't has it!!! That's no good for phone of this price. You Even can't use Skype on this!!!

  • any body know the web settings for 02 uk plz help

  • great phone, but it looks great witha man though

  • good phone

  • I can't believe that ETEN G500 has no WLAN.

  • does any 1 know how to get rom update and what does it add to phone plz help

  • I had purchased G500 about a month before, A great product over all. Surprising part with G500 is that product does not comes with any GPS utility and no prefered software or utility is mentioned on etencorp.com. I want to buy GPS utility or GPS software to make use of GPS in G500. Any body if can suggest about the software to be used on G500 with India Map.

  • I have E-Ten G500 am having these problems first , my fone swithed it self and i can't recall it tell i remove my batery and put back again and the sound is very low , very low th batery life is not long, it take may be one day and half , that i need to recharch again i need your opinion, am thinking to sell it because of my phone goes off , when the batery is low. any suggestion is welcome thanks

  • Hi. I am interested in the Eten g500. I would like to know if the eten has some sort of storage in built with the phone. i so an you load the maps on the phone so you can free up the slot to use it for a wifi can or something Thanks Andrew

  • Does anyone know if you can update the flash memory from 128 to 256 which the new g500+ has.

  • I am interested in buying a g500. Does it come with GPS built in or do you need to buy a module for it.

  • This is a great phone with almost all the functionalities you want. I just have some problems. The reception is really bad. A signal strength is not an issue. I always get full bars but the sound quality of phone (not MP3) is horrible with a lot statics. It is actually worse on the other party than my side. It is not my service provider issue because I have had 3-4 phones with a same provider and I have not had any problem. The other problem is ringtone is not loud enough. This could be fixed with the hands-free earpiece but I can't have hands-free device all the time. I think that this is a great PDA with moderate GPS and with a below average phone. However, I can't say that I don't like this phone.

  • Does this phone have Skype phone calls? Please Help ASAP! From Stef

  • :( As I said early about the belt holder it happend, result: a cracked touch screen matrix which need to be replaced. At least the LCD is ok, hopefully. Suggesting to check following link if U want more info about G500 and/or other ETEN devices.

  • is the speark of the phone stereo or mono?

  • Why dit we have to wait so long for this PDA/GPS etc. Better then my blackberry and cheaper too. My compliments guys you produced a nice sleek machine.

  • What a great phone. As an executive flying all over the world especially Europe and the USA I downloaded the roadmaps GPS on SD cards. No need anymore to rent expensive Tomto with the carrental company. It works great is fuly compatible with my laptop use it for e mail etc. n my company we bought 5 of them all colleques are happy with them. Buy it..

  • Like most Windows PDA's to add your own sounds, you simply copy the MP3 or WAV files etc to the my documents folder on the PDA using Activesync. Once you do this, they will appear in the list of sounds you can use for messages, ring tones etc. Hope this helps.

  • Excellent device! The only problem I found (so far): if you want to delete all entries in CONTACTS you'll have to do it one at a time as it doesn't have the "select all" nor "delete all" option. It seems that there is also a problem with Back-ups but I'm not sure yet, I'll test it further more. What I like the most: it comes with AC and car charger, display protection film, car and belt holder. CAUTION with belt holder, it drops very easy.

  • does anyone knows how to change a sound for receiving messages on this Eten G500 other then those already inside the phone ! I can not find the way to do it ! Plz help

  • Wi-Fi for this baby? Where it goes, you need no WiFI!

  • ive just recently came across this phone and am deciding between this or a jasjar. i like the gps feature althought its available on other phones but im worried about the complaints ive been reading about phone quality. as for TOMTOM, i found a review and in it they talk aobut using it with this device, including the com port settings. theres the link i beleive its the thrid page. good luck.

  • pplz plz dont cry over wifi for G500,think about the company as well they have planned to run their business bit more longer than your thoughts,i mean if they had put everything in one phone then they got nothing else to show and close the shop go home. next model will come with wifi thats for sure then next model will have some kind key pad as well and then next model might have bit bigger memory first time in wm5 and support both sd and mini sd cards so on...........! so plz pick up your G500 for now and dont whinge thats a good phone :)

  • Hmmm,I look at this phone and the words 'v3 razr' come to mind..

  • i want too know if i need too buy a supplimentary softwar for europe road map? the gps system does it work with out any other softwar or appareil? thank you best regards

  • The best bright screen and nice under sun even, one of the best PDa bright screen i have seen.. nice phone nice features...just ould not make GPS work some how...

  • Hello, can anyone please comment on screen visibility and keypad usage outdoor under bright sunlight conditions? Thank you

  • And what about the worse phone voice quality, echos, many user complaints. Does the next ROM-update solve that problem?

  • Yes it can be used in America

  • I spent a lot of time looking around about this phone and the mio a701, and this was definitly the choice to make. However everybody keeps complaining about the lack of wifi. My opinion... quit complaining. you can't get both yet but it is easier to have this phone with a wifi sd card than it is the other way around.

  • Can it be used in North America ?

  • this looks like a fantastic phone...would havr been a perfect all-in-one gps/pda/ppc/phone if there's a wifi. a number of reviews here:

  • there's already some detailed preview of this gps pda/phone. one very interesting feature that was not listed in th eofficial spec is the FM radio. if there's a mini SD SDIO WiFi card, i would definitely choose this over mio 701. here's the preview of this phone:

  • You can compare the eten G500 with the Mio A701 in the review of the last mentioned: In French though, but with nice pictures (of both) and Benchmark scores in English You can also wait for the summer products: HTC-Trinity= QTEK S310, QTEK G200 (complete PDA's with GSM, PDA, A-GPS and WiFi)

  • I'd be interested in a comparison of the Mio A701 and the E-Ten G500. They are quite similar. The main differences as far as I can tell are that the G500 has voice command software, quad-band, and TMC function, but a mini-SD slot rather than SD. Does anyone know if this mini-SD is sdio capable for adding WIFI? The mio SD slot is SDIO. On paper, then, the E-Ten looks like it offers a bit more, but I'd have to see a complete review of both to be sure.

  • Does anybody knows if is it possible to register the GPS coordinates in the pictures?

  • Can you add wifi to this with a minisd? Anyone have any experience?

  • thas anyone know if you can use with the gps. tomtom software maps. thnks

  • is this phone can be used as voip with skype ???

  • This does look like a pretty good phone....good spec, but it does not look nearly as cool as Mitac Mio A701.....now that's a good looking PDA/GPS/Phone combo.... What do you think?????

  • This has built in GPS - hardly standard. There is the HP 6515 of course and the soon to be released MIO A701 so this will be one of the first Windows pda/phones around. It looks funky and is a reasonably small size. I dont care about wifi so I cant really see any downsides so long as it works ok. This or the JAM? They are similar sizes, but this will run Mobile 5 so will be more up to date. For me the addition of GPS means that this should be the better bet.

  • Anyone out there... Is this comparible with an IMATE JAM? Besides the specs, processor and shape... What would you choose? All feedback accepted :)

  • the difference is this is phone not just a pocket pc, this is the first if im not mistaken with built in gps (phone/pocketpc)

  • why spend all that money on research or did they, thinking not.......................(its - standard)

  • I also agreed with the previous posting that the new G500 should have wifi support as well. I would prefer it to be using SD as well and not the Mini-SD for memory expansion.

  • The HP 6515 already has built-in GPS. Nothing revolutionary about this.

  • Why they forget to put in WiFi ??? Else the phone will be perfect... sigh...

  • This is a good phone with a cool design. Almost the same as the eten m600. Anyway, I have a Motorola A1000 and I would like to know what is the largest size memory card it supports? It uses transflash. Also, is samstores a good site to order phones from? thanks

  • "- Embedded RoyalTek GPS" What is this??? it already brings GPS??? This would be revolutionary!!! And I would have to re-think about my 2 month old M600... :P

  • At last a exceptional mobile phone ONE OF A KIND

  • Nice good looking device almost same specification like M600 but question is whats the use to make same device again and again I am using PPCs for last 3 years and I ll suggest to all manufactures that they should build devices with QWERTY keyboard for a normal users best example is Treo 650 and Benq P50 and many more coming now days like Moto Q and Fujitsu Siemens T800 cause pocket pc is not easy to use with one hand specially in car best is reduce screen size and add QWERTY keyboards

  • As an owner of a M600, I generally think it is a good phone but lacking GPS. I agreed with the previous posting that the new G500 should have wifi support as well. Besides that, I would prefer it to be using SD as well and not the Mini-SD for memory expansion.

  • Yay, my post is #1!!! :) Anyway, I wish this phone had Wi-Fi support.
