  • the same thing happend my phone

  • Garmin Asus A10 is good, but with my experience using Garmin Asus A10 and Garmin Asus M10, i think Garmin Asus M10 is better than A10. Reason, M10 lock the satelite very fast and user friendly than A10. Garmin map in M10(Windows Mobile) and A10(Android) is not same. The real Garmin is in M10. Map in A10 is not detail compare in M10. The touch screen in M10(TFT) is responsive than A10(Capacitive).

  • Love my Garmin A10. However went to turn it on today and NOTHING. Black screen. Not even if plugged into power. DEAD. I am a light user of the phone and its never been dropped or been near water. has this happened to anyone??? Garmin want $150 just to open back cover. Thanks

  • Love this phone...Amazing GPS. Can someone plse help me though. Today i went to turn on phone....NOTHING...black screen. Not even when plugged into power..NOTHING....Zip Zero Nought!! Garmin want $150 just to open the back cover and then it may not be fixable. Has anyone heard or had this issue. Many thanks

Went to turn on 2day and NOTHING...Cant get to turn on at all. $800 phone which i really liked until now!! Garmin want $150 just to open it up and check it out. Has anyone else had this problem...Thanks

  • Great phone had mine for over 2 years now never had a problem . GPS is really good very accurate . Wish they still made this model would definitely buy another one .

  • Lousy problematic phone! Same goes for their computers! ASUS SUX!

  • I just broke the screen of my Garmin Asus A10 ... The battery is fine. Do you want it ? [email protected]

  • My garmin wont let me update it please someone helpp !!!! :(

  • This is one heck of a GPS phone. The GPS is awesome! Works in the most remote areas. And the map updates are so good it was able to take me through dirt road of rural areas in my country. My touch screen is cracked but it still works. Lucky I got a screen protector to protect my fingers from getting cuts. Been using the phone for nearly 2 years now, and amazingly using it with cracked glass screen for 3 months already. Sad it's not getting any software updates anymore but still is my best phone, ever.

  • where can i get a replacement for A10 battery, please advise/tks

  • i bought this Garmin Asus A10 thinking it would work absolutely fine but to begin with i had this problem of the Touch Screen.. i went to the Service guys they changed the Screen after a couple months i started having problems with the The Bluetooth And Wi-fi It would not get on at all, thought would be a Firmware issue redid the fiormware as we all know we dont have any more upgrades to this Phone any more apart from the 5.1 Version now i have a serious problem of the Charger Plug In the point where we charge the Phone completely broke i wonder how would such things happen with Asus.... to my shock the service guys says need to change the mother board we dont get spares. but letmme be frank till it works the Phone is excellent but when it starts giving problem then its like being on a Ventilator any time something else can popup

  • When I updated my phone it was very easy I am in Australia maybe if you are in another country its not as easy as it was for me . The update file for my phone was about 120 megabytes which took my computer about 10 mins to download . The phone took about 10 mins to update itself all I did was follow the online instructions at the ASUS Garmin Site .

  • MY daughter tried updating took 5 hrs & still coulnt get all files to download. Went to telecom store & 1 more hr b4 it updated. My phonebook tripled all contacts & lost info, A mess - still not sorted months l8tr. Disapponted

  • Best and cheap mobile

  • My garmin when i am speaking it goes on and out what is the problem and what i have to do.

  • In case your version of android is not 2.1, then you could try upgrading to that and it might help. Don't know though how you can upgrade it. Mine was done by the shop where I got it from.

  • Hi, would you happen to know how I can transfer a music file to another device via bluetooth? I have tried but could not get into any submenu to do that. It's ok to receive them but cannot send out. Many thanks.

  • hi all ,do u guys have any problems of lagging ? like when i play angry birds its so lag and slow ,even i'd reset d device ...

  • I have been using this phone since Nov 2011, It's a great phone, value for money. worked flawlessly until I got wet and now it's not detecting SIM. All else is working fine except calls. The service center guys told motherboard has to be changed, that would cost more than the phone.

  • I would totally disagree. This is the most reliable and best quality phone I have had. You must have bought a dud.

  • I have installed whatsapp application ver. 28509 and works great without any issues. :)

  • work flawlessly fully satisfied:::hats off garmin:::wrkz gr8 evn in remote places

  • Yes the GPS does work independently of the phone will even work without a sim card installed .

  • Does the GPS worked independently without 3G or wireless?

  • This is a great phone not sure why so many people have been having problems . My A10 has worked flawlessly since I bought it which was about 12 months ago . I have done all the recommended updates without any problems . The GPS in this phone works really well and has saved me from getting lost many times . Sound quality of phone calls is also excellent . The camera is very good for taking quick snaps as is the media player . Overall I think this is a very good phone for the money .

  • Can someone help me to get GPRS settings for BSNL for this phone. BSNL customer support is unable to provide this. Thanks Shankar

  • hi i really enjoy this phone and i have recomment this phone to friend and after buying it the offer me a gift to say thank u

  • I totally disagree I have had NO problems with my A10 mobile phone whatsoever . It has work flawlessly since I bought it 5 months ago . I have used it ever day for both business and personal use . The GPS has been very accurate and has done a better job than my navman unit which isn't used much now . Again I say this is a great phone and I would recommend to everyone to buy one .

  • I bought this phone a few months ago and am still using it now. This phone totally rocks and is durable. You may not believe this but for these few months thats i've been using this phone, I have already dropped this phone into water TWO times!! And it survived both times. I just let it dry for a couple days and then switched it on again. You can still use it! And nothing went wrong!! I love this phone its perfect u guys should really buy it!!

  • how i can disable the gps satellite in asus a10

  • This is the WORST phone. After I bought it it stopped working after a month until an update came out 6 months later. The processor is slow... I often can't answer it because the screen won't show the green button as its still trying to figure out if it's a phone or a toaster. I have deleted all the apps to try speed it up and it's still crap. The camera takes a week to take a photo and for some reason it takes about half an hour to remember how to send a text when you turn it on. Conceptually it's a great idea, it just needs the hardware to keep up.

  • go to download dat file.. den copy it to ur fon in de loc garmin/update den discnt de fon frm sys. an updat rqst will be shown in de fon... datz al...

  • If you are in Australia upgrading the A10 is very easy all you have to do is go to the Garmin-asus site and follow the upgrade links everything is explained and I found the update didn't take long to do . Not sure about how to update the phone in other countries though :(

  • how did you upgrade to 2.1 eclair?? can u guide me please.?

  • Guyz i can't update my map. When i open the downloaded file it says file is broken... Please help...

  • Could you kindly refrain from using txt language here. It reads like crap.

  • Hai all good friends. I would like to know anybody have install whatsapp in their A10 and if so which version whatsapp? really appreciate your assistance..TQ guys..

  • hiii rushi me too purchased it from CROMA Jalandhar...i juzz love dis phone its best device in dis price range...its navigation is juzz more dan awsum.... i havn't ever encounter ny problem wid d device....m using an iphone 4s too but i always prefer dis phone for navigation...juzz disable d gps satellite wen not in use nd u will found best battery backup among oll other smartphones....i juzz love dis phone...may be u got some faulty devices nd dats y suffering with these problems otherwise trust me dis device is much better than best....

  • As far as I know the short answer would be no :(

  • Can the Android OS of this phone (v2.1 Eclair) be upgraded to Gingerbread?

  • Yes Ive done the upgrade all went very well its pretty easy to do as long as you follow the instructions. By the way the upgrade is well worth doing as it makes the phone a lot better to use and the battery seems to last a lot longer (well it did for me anyway) .

  • Guys, did you manage to update the software to version 5.0.82?

  • Garmin = Great inbuilt GPS better than any other phone I have seen ;)

  • Garmin kiss of death for ASUS Phones.

  • Purchased A10 on 6th Dec and observed that battery can last long provided you disable GPS functioning in the background. If left enabled, it drains yr battery juice. With fair use of voice and GPS my cell is continuing for 27 hours with last recharge. A10 comes with 1500MAh battery which is extraordinary. Battery of this size is not found even in the best of phones.

  • hi qwertyu...can i know which local store you're referring to? Which country btw...

  • my phone camera when i press camera come out unable to access files in file transfer mode and gallery is empty.

  • Hi Alan, Thanks a lot for your reply. Appreciate it. :) Called the local asus support and they said they'll update it to 2.1. I hope there are updates to the phone, otherwise it'll suck to be stuck in 2.1 when the rest of the world moves forward. Thanks again for your help.

  • Hi I'm running version 2.1 (Eclair) on my A10 . As far as I know there shouldn't be any problems for you to update an A10 to that version . Not sure if there will be any updates to anything newer though :(

  • Hi all, I've a question. The local store is selling A10 at 60% discount at clearance sale. It was manufactured in October 2010 and runs on android 1.6. My question is, will i be able to upgrade the OS after purchasing? If yes, till which version does the phone support? Thanks for your help guys.

  • hi all ,i just bought this phone 2 weeks ago ,and have problems to import my sim contacts to this device ,i tried and it says doned ,when i check out my contacts it say empty .how come ? and is its battery life only withstand for only a day after a fair usage ? regards .

  • can i search my garmin with using GPS, when i loss it?

  • I take back what i told regarding Samsung service center. I gave my old samsung on 2 Sep for mother board change and got it back today, 22-Sep. But anyway better than Asus servicing. ~Rosh

  • i bought this phone 1 month ago.. my first android phone and im very happy with it. 1. the size is just nice for my jeans pocket 2. free gps.. it used satelite to track the location. ( no need internet as other tel or sim card) love it 3. hey its android with many application 4. battery will be very good as we change to airplane mode when we not using internet. maps update very fast 5. navigation during driving is great with that voice that alert us from lost.and its like we have fren inside car with that loud voice asking us to turn drive etc, 6. the price is so great/ nice with the capability 7. i give 9/10 thumb up.. i love this smartphone. p/s plying angry bird in it.... mamposss lah kalau bos tahu hehehehhe

  • yes, Alan. You cant expect the same service u get in AUS / US elsewhere in the world. I got my garmin back yesterday and i am quite happy with the performance. I think i got an upgraded motherboard than the older one i had. I now know why there can be issues with Garmin A10. It gets HEATED UP rather quickly, damaging the other components as well. In my case, along with mother board, the touch screen and battery got compromised. So guys, please keep ur garmin under control and keep it cool. Otherwise u will get angry. :). Enjoy, Rosh.

  • From reading other posts on this forum it would seem that the service center here in Australia is a lot better at dealing with customers and there problems . Its a pity this can't be said for the rest of the world .

  • Bangalore, Karnataka, India. Just now i checked again, the service guy told, sir 2 more days... It is really a disaster... Still waiting for mother board.. Samsung provides much better servicing. My bro got his mother board replaced and he got back his mob in 3 days..!!!

  • Rosh what country are you from ??.

  • Hi Guys, I am back again. Now without a A10. It is lying in service center for one month. I gave it last july 26. The complaint was battery getting drained out. Now they have changed battery, touchpad and now mother board. I wonder what these guys have sold me... I used to say FOR a10, yes it is a very good mobile as per functionality it serves, but whaz the use if it is not ON ? I recommend Samsung + any GPS unit. They are far better in getting serviced. Why, 'cause Garmin is gonna close their service center soon after 2011. Then if your mobile gets issues, better buy a new one. Cheers guys.

  • Skype is a software application that allows users to make voice calls over the Internet. Calls to other users within the Skype service are free, while calls to both traditional landline telephones and mobile phones can be made for a fee using a debit-based user account system.

  • Who is skype ?

  • Sounds to me your problem was with the dealer NOT Garmin ASUS . I had a faulty battery charger and my dealer went to the trouble of having a new one couriered to me over night at no cost to me . Its a shame when poor dealer service ruins the reputation of a good company like Garmin ASUS .

  • The other link seems dead for the time being this link is for the Australian Version of the A10 hopefully it keeps working longer than the other one .

  • This phone buying is worst decision of my life too even I suggested this phone my friends after red specification and Specially for navigation. we all purchased it in scheme from "CROMA" surat . We Bought4 pcs and out of them 3 pcs had factory faulted one pcs had hanging problem, another had camera and one had network problem .Now when we went to croma they hands up from their responsibility that now you can go to service center after that when we reached to service center they replaced all phones Motherboard circuits and give us back after 1 month instead of 3 day's commitment. There after two of them had battery problem this time also they took 15 days to replace battery and in behalf of camera problem it's still going on From my this Horrible experince I never suggest any one to buy GARMIN ASUS phone or any other Telecom product.

  • If you check your phone to make sure your not running an older version of android 1.5 update from New Zealand garmin asus support site to 2.1 android. It helps the phone alot i had the same problems lol....

  • "This is a link to the Manual for the Garmin Asus A10 it should be able to help you with your Question : >>File not found.

  • This is a link to the Manual for the Garmin Asus A10 it should be able to help you with your Question :

  • i want to know all function can anyone explain?

  • A great workhorse unit. Excellent in car or handheld GPS, good phone sound and reception. Plays MPEG4 movies, MP3 tunes, Android Apps, Best phone I've ever had!

  • Considering this Garmin-Asus A10 has a higher user rating than a iPhone 4 I can't figure out why this phone has been exiled to the back pages of this site . Maybe someone doesn't like the competition or its too embarrassing for some of the bigger companies to be outshone by a small company like this one .

  • Maybe someone should read the manual then they wouldn't have so many problems .

  • I bought this phone about 6 weeks ago. The worst phone decision I have ever made. I cannot play music through my car or a stereo as it jumps songs/albums or turns off/on with the sligtest movement. Sent it back twice. They keep saying nothing wrong found. I need to play my music on it. I want to shove it to someone where the sun don't shine.

  • I agree this site seems to be full of ppl complaining about things that could so easily be fixed by just reading the manual .

  • Maybe someone should read the manual then they wouldn't have so many problems .

  • this phone SUCKS!!! it's always like.. Sorry! the application is not running, wait or force close... how can i send sms or call then????

  • +: Battery life, price/equipment, design -: Screen (sensitivity, precision, touch responsiveness), included software. Next to HTC sens it really feels empty.

  • When they say lifetime (2 years) they are referring to the life of most plans (24 months). And they believe that after then people will upgrade.

  • What Country are you in mate? In australia they are ONLY sold at Optus

  • where is outlet in this mobile selling

  • This joint venture doesn't exist anymore , now there is garmini for navigation and asus for mobile phones and tablets so pleas change the name of this company or combine asus and garmini asus products to one firm as asus. thank you !

  • this phones battery actually last for nearly 7 day[note : it was on max brightness ]

  • How can 2 years be a bad warranty when many phones don't even have 12 months warranty . I suppose there's just no pleasing some people .

  • How can 2 years warranty be bad when many phones only have 12 months????.

  • I got my A10 about a year ago and about few months after I have been using it (I use it just as a phone and on occasion I use it to navigate to address I don't know, when I'm driving) this stupid Widget keeps popping up constantly... I can't even get to type an SMS without it popping up... for me it's extremely anoying and I really dislike this phone because of it. I've read quite a few pople are having this exact same issue so it's defintiely a crappy hardware/software issue (I don't care which one it is, it's the phone itself and I honestly would not recomend it to anyone unless you can put up with it doing what ever it wants even without any of user input) Frome me... I consider this phone the worst I've had from about 5-6 phones I used so far (I change them about every 2-3 years or so)

  • very bad warranty 2 years? 1 month used then hardware problem...send for repair...already 51 days...still waiting the phone...so what u think?....just forget about it....

  • I'm not sure where you got your information from but I phoned the Asus/Garmin service department and was told that the A10 phone had a life time map update and that the maps would be updated for as long as the phone was connected to a provider . And that they had never heard of updated only lasting for 2 years .

  • oic, tq rosh 4 de info. They mean tat aftr 2 yrs u get chrgd 4 de map svrces, tats dnt sound gud news. :)

  • Yes, it was free. and as per site, u will get free updates till the life time of ur mobile. I checked with their support team and they told till 2yrs. I wonder what that meant.. (phone will last for only 2 yrs ???) Anyway, i updated my map 2 times and was downloaded for free. Ciao.

  • Yes it is free and works even if there is no signal for the phone . It even works without a sim card installed .

  • hey, is this a free navigation (gps) once u bought ths grmin A10 when u used while drivng, cn any1 answer pls, :)

  • Yo MODS whats up with the Voting Results they don't seemed to have changed at all in a very long time . Would suck if this was rigged just to make iCRAP look good .

  • I just made the 1000 vote on this great phone . In my opinion a good phone at the price it is sold at here in australia . Had some problems with the phone when i first bought it but after an update it has performed flawlessly .

  • I have an A10 as well, well first of all when i switch of the phone or have to remove battery to reset because it freezes, it doesnt ring ( no ringing sound or button volume)like i have turned the ringing volume down but it's actually turned up through the menu.... So i have to connect it to the cars bluetooth wich will take no less than 5-6 times for it to find the connection. I have to go through the menu select (make device discoverable) if it starts counting down it will connect IF it doesnt start counting i have to switch the phone of and start again. When it finnaly does connect i have to turn the bluetooth volume up and then when the phone rings you can hear it. I have attempted to do a software apdate from the garmin asus site, but it freezes half way through it.

  • ASUS also manufactures phones?, wasn't aware of that....

  • There are only two options in this mobile. 1. To delete the entire thread. (Thread = Conversation between two guys.) 2. Delete a single message. I am not aware of deleting multiple message at one go, as it is in other mobiles.

  • Download one app called Battery Doctor from android market. You will find the battery consuming apps links there and their current status. Good one to monitor your battery. Trust me, it do work.

  • No Bro, as far as i know, there is no video call. There is no front camera. :(

  • turn of WIFI that will help a lot

  • My battery is good for a full days usage with a little left over . You might have a faulty battery it might be a good idea to get your phone checked .

  • The battery went flat very shortly around 4-5 hours after fully charged.Even I've OFF most of the functions, anyone face this problem?

  • do this phone have video call?

  • the application is great but some how my phone is abit legging.....i have not install any thing and already im having problem...can any one tell me why is this happening?....

  • Hi can anyone tell me how to delete multiple sms. cant select em all, its really annoying deleting messages 1 by 1 :(

  • If you don't mind can you please let us know what spare part is hard to find .

  • Phone is working OK after firmware upgrade. But i don't how to make VIDEO call when i am in 3G network. Please help!

  • Hi everyone, It is a really real shame that Garmin-Asus wont make an Android 2.3 upgrade for the A10 as it goes opposite to what they said before, quote: () The two companies will not introduce any new cobranded handset models going forward, but will continue to sell and support models that have already been introduced to the market. () Customer support continues to be of utmost importance to Garmin and ASUS, and Garmin-Asus smartphone customers will continue to receive product support, software updates and/or downloads from either Garmin or Asus, depending upon the region. () And heres the source:

  • Croma is selling this phone for Rs. 15k. There is a free offer where you get a 21" tv or 20L microwave or 10mp digicam free when you buy this phone.

  • hi, mind if u describe more on how it hang? how many time it hang in a week? do u do update on firmway?

  • I aleady used this A10 garmin Asus about 5 month and the condition very bad..Always hang and need to restart several times and the most important spare part very hard to find......

  • Let the buyer beware! As an owner of a Garmin-Asus A10 smartphone, it has come to my attention that every single LCD panel Asus uses in that phone has a significant amount of lazy pixels. After sending it back to Asus for repairs several times, every LCD panel they have replaced have come back equally flawed. Refunds are not available. To see the lazy/dead pixels i am talking about, download the app "Dead Pixel Test" from the market. The dead pixels will become very apparent on the black screen of the app especially in a dark room. Be warned, once you see it, it will bug you forever, if you never found it, you may not even notice it. Suffice to say, i am extremely skeptical of their products now. Protect yourselves and do not purchase from this company unless you can be guaranteed a refund. I pray you have a better experience with them than i did. PS: For a more balanced review, let me just say that the GPS receiver is excellent in this unit. I have been able to get a lock indoors faster than i would using a standalone Garmin GPS. Navigation falls short of my expectations for Garmin however, as the 600MHz processor is unable to keep up. The fact that it runs Eclair makes it a passable PDA, however, the phone's antenna does not match up to the quality of its GPS antenna, and i get no signal where i am able to obtain a weak/medium signal with a Nokia 5800. Sunlight legibility is okay, but not enough for the pedestrian navigation the phone is supposedly built for. In terms of battery life, it drains about 10% overnight with 3G on. The GPS receiver is turned on by default, which is a real drain on battery. With it off, doing some light web browsing (about 30 minutes 3G), IM (Meebo) constantly on (WiFi 7-8 hours, 3G the rest) and about an hour of Angry Birds would drain the battery in roughly 12 hours. Without a phone to compare it to, i cannot say how good/bad the battery life is, but i would assume it is pretty good. All in all, if it wasn't for the flawed LCD panels, the phone is still a pretty good buy if you are constantly in need of a GPS unit and can live with Eclair. Otherwise, the LG Optimus One would provide more bang for your buck. Not upgrading the phone OS when it was "promised"(apparently read implied) at purchase and failed attempts at repair just shows the attitude the company has toward its customers. As i said, caveat emptor, let the buyer beware.

  • I totally agree with you Do NOT buy this phone. Mine after a set of problems ,going back only 1 month after buying it and the another 2 times got swapped for a Samsung Galaxy S an I am very happy with this.

  • I do not agree I bought my phone when they first came out and apart from the early software glitches I have not had any issues with this phone .

  • Do NOT buy this phone. It is very unreliable and has many problems with its functioning. I repeat, DO NOT buy this phone.

  • yeah.. there is a formal notice from GA that, no froyo upgrade.

  • Hi, Garmin is the partner for upgrading the GPS side, as i understand Asus are the ones to release an upgrade to Android OS. I checked with the support guys here and they told it is not available yet. but it doesnt mean that upgrade wont be available at all. I am also waiting for 2.2. Lets hope for the best. :)

  • Hi, U have to upgrade the firmware. I assume that u bought the phone from india. hence upgrade to Indian version. These will be fixed. ~Rosh

  • My phone went back to its maker 3 times, once after 1 month and 1 day of buying it,then 5 months later and then the 3rd time they-the phone shop where I bought it-did not bother to send it back, they wrote a complaint letter for me. After about 1 week I got a phone call from KPN in the Netherlands and they asked me to explain the problem,I did and they asked if I would like another phone...Of course I said yes so long as it was NOT the Garmin and that the phone actually worked. They sent me on my existing contract a brand new Samsung Galaxy S..ME VERY happy !!! It works like a dream. Navigation geo tags everything the Garmin was ment to do but for wat ever reason never did,not properly at any rate.

  • Hi. As there won't be an official upgrade to Android 2.2 or 2.3 (Garmin said), does someone know if an un-official build has been (or will be) created and where i could download it ? Thanx.

  • I am facing the same issue as Muni has reported. screams . The touch is too faulty n sometimes the mute button gets pressed while talking by your ear and u cannot be heard, navigation is great ans so is the processor. But the issue raised must be addressed by Asus.

  • I have done the upgrade with no problems . If you are still having problems I'd phone the garmin asus support line the number here in Australia is : 1-800-552-608 it operates between 8:00 17:00 EST . I am sure they will be able to guide you through the update process .

  • Hallo, Where can I get the latest SW? I found Version 5.0.82, 118 MB in Australian Garminasus Web site. I tried to update as mentioned in the guidelines, but it did not work for me. In one try it says "file is inconstent". In a second try it say "insufficient memory". I still have Version 5.0.71... Did someone succeed with SW update? Cengiz

  • CPU: Qualcomm 7227 600MHz

  • how mutch is procesor? 1ghz or?

  • Hi, I am back. Great News. They have done some considerable improvements here. And a lot stable as well. Earlier it was a GPS device, Now it is a phone as well. Few that I have noted: 1. Contact have come back. Properties->Display groups->Expand one group -> Select All Other Contacts (last one). i am not sure whether this was available earlier. But now all contacts ara visible. 2. As soon as you dial a number, if it is there in contact, it gets displayed. 3. Battery appears to be more efficient. 4. No more removing of batteries. I tried few calls and appears pretty stable. Wew... BIGGG RELIEF. Android OS v2.1.1 - Has Live Wallpaper.

  • I forgot to mention 2 things here: 1. The mob recognises that the battery cover is removed. hence after sitcking in the SD card, before doing anything, put back the battery cover. If not, it will not proceed with update. Instead, it will go to desktop and you will have to repeat the process. 2. The update file (approx 300MB) will remain in the folder itself. Hence you will have to remove it manually. Otherwise you will wonder where did all the space go. Contact me - roshkm82 at hotmail dot com Cheers everyone, ~Rosh.

  • Ok i have successfully installed ver 5071. UI looks more 3d especially the player but i am wondering how it found that this phone is IND? I just changed the time zone to Kaula lumpur and tried. No Luck. I just bought this mob yesterday and i am experimenting already. Garmin Asus guys, 'are you listening?' :) Will update in a day or 2 about the usage. but i feel the phone is quite heavy. no need of a dumbel. Never saw that in a review either. Wonder all the guys stopped going to gym. ;) ~Rosh.

  • Ok, I got Invalid system update file. I guess i have to live with 5071. Ok, trying again. ~Rosh

  • After much search i found how to install firmware. I am facing the problem of proximity. i.e. fone turns blak\ck, or hangs after a long call. When you press the power button to unlock it, it dont respond. You have to remove the battery to cut the phone. This happens generally when you make a call to a LAN phone. So even if they cut the call from their side, the line will be open unless you cut it. If you are calling anothoer mobile, this wont happen. So hold on tight guys, i am going to upgrade to 5077 ver. In this ver, they have mentioned that proximity issue is fixed, lets see. All information is available on garminasus.com/en_MY/support/a10-software-updates.html I will post in a while about the status. btw i am from India. and Indian site of garmin asus is having only 5071. Wonder why. ~Rosh

  • Can I purchase UK maps for phone purchased in OZ and loaded with Oz maps ?

  • All phones use a certain amount of there internal memory for there own operating system the last update for the A10 used about 100 MB of memory as I remember and that would be on top of the old system . In the past I have owned an iPhone and I know they use quite a lot of there on board memory as well . But unlike the iPhone you can and more memory if you need it with the A10 .

  • well...i bought A10 3 days ago and when i chkd memory it was showing total storage 3.01 gb- available 2.56, utilised by applications is 406MB. :(..just worried!! wheather i have made the right decision buying this fone :(

  • In my opinion the A10 is a much better phone the GPS is very good and the operating system is much smoother now since the upgrades .

  • Some memory is lost when the memory is formatted and the rest would be used by the phones operating system .

  • can any one suggest which one is better between A10 & M10.

  • Hi product package says its 4gb memory, but when i checked total storage its 3gb and available 2.56gb....????

  • We bought two A10 in belgium last week . Great phone. One has a problem with the camera and it sometimes causes a black screen . Does anyone have the same problem?

  • @lion perhaps you shoul update the firmware? You can find the direction from garmin-asus Malaysia website. The performance will be much better after the upgrade... trust me..

  • I've had my A10 for about three months now and love it. I haven't had any of the problems that others have complained about. All in all a good purchase for the money.

  • garmin asus a 10 is availbale in india contact 01145558010

  • I have bought the A10 with the help of the information available here. With the Navi I am contented, but with the video I'm very very frustrated! The value given on top in the specifications for video QVGA@30fps (320 × 240 pixels with 30 frames per second) is purely and simply WRONG. After my attempts the right value is about QVGA@5-14fps!!! (imagine, in year 2010!). In the A10 I have found (still before the purchase) under sampler pictures just one video. This video was really running with QVGA@30fps. On my inquiry with Garmin support I have got the following answer: "Note please that the promotional films on the GPS dispose always of better graphic, as if you yourselves turn a video." (!) Can somebody help me? The camera (video) is only an application, could one download something else ore even better? The A10 has Android OS, v2.1 Thanks, Karl

  • I bought my A10 last week, from malaysia telco phone package. the phone Design is stylish enough. glad that my phone does not have proximity problem. just some times lagging. overall i very satisfied with it.

  • It is available in India @ 17000 bucks. But I think Dell XCD35 is a better deal.

  • i want to buy a10 but never seem to find where to buy one or find any prices, can you help

  • it seems a great navigation phone, and want to buy one,but can never find where to buy,or any prices never see in phone shops, can anyone help

  • Same problem here with TWO phones: interface does not work/buttons get clicked randomly/general "crazyness" of the user interface (i.e. windows/screens/apps close by themselves). I am VERY disappointed.

  • Where I can buy carmin asus A10 hand phone?

  • The firmware update is out. Will solve some the problems mentioned here. For those looking for the 'standby' button, it's the power button. Press once and release. Screen blackout during call, it's the proximity sensor. Screen will come on when phone is away from your face. GPS screen dimming, to conserve battery. Backlight will come on when there is a turn to be made. For the Malaysian market, there's no better phone for the money. Navigation accuracy is excellent. For those struggling with the manual, can consider a not-so-smartphone.

  • Is Arabic Language selection available on this phone ? and on keyboard also?

  • Used for 6 months. Navigation doesnot works properly when driving from sydney to melbourne.Map screen goes blank, but speaks route instructions. Some times Screen goes blank,no screen to disconnect call! Poor call reception indoors, shows full signal strength outdoors and none indoors.

  • I have problem during call out. The screen gone blank as soon as I press the call buttom. Since I can't view anything, I can't press on "End of call" button leaving my call still on eventhough the other party already hang up. Is there anyone who can help me on this?

  • its a grate mobile the prblem is no cam flash

  • If you installed the new firmware on the phone when Garmin-Asus updated it a few months ago then that would explain not being able to press the centre on-screen button to answer a call - if that is what you are talking about. They are currently working on a new firmware upgrade to fix a lot of the problems (so they said when i spoke to them early December.

  • User Manual is in external sd

  • Most screen protector for the garmin gps will fit the Asus Garmin Phone

  • on my asus a 10 , the problem is the stand by ....to get it i tried to push the button "widget " this to avod sending wrong calls or other unwanted ...if i swithc off the phone (with the block sequence safety ) when i receive a call i can t reply ....the phone rings , but the button reply can t be pushed on screen ...i really dont understand that !!!! for the camera i m sad that no flash is included ( on my samsung it was included ) . it could be useful for photos !!! the gps seems good

  • I would like to write a short review about Asus A10: I purchased it 10 days before for corporate use and this is my first SMARTPHONE. I used Blackberry 8900 which is not comparable to this one. Here is the + & - of Asus A10. First will go with Advantages, because it's very few: Everyone likes the model. Great GPS Navigation. Not a bad audio quality As expected, Android OS is working great. Disadvantages: Screen will go dead, if you press lock (power) button when you are on call. Only way you can revert is remove the battery and putting it back. Bad Camera quality when compared to Sony 2 Megapixel and this comes with 5 MP. VERY POOR Battery backup. No car mounting stand (not sure whether we could get the compatible one in the outside market) Bluetooth connection drops down and could send a 150 kb file from my computer. Since the touch screen is very sensitive, the speaker is turning on and off when you are on call. No leather case(cover) comes with phone. Above to all this, When I called ASUS INDIA Support to configure GOOD (for corporate emails) they said person who deals with Smartphone is on leave and will be back only on Monday. Just think what will happen if you are travelling and something happens in between. :-( Caution: Forget buying this phone if you are going to use this for Corporate network and frequent travelling. Asus, If you are watching this opinions, please think about improving your quality of Support, if you really want to sustain in mobile market. I am ready to provide my contact details, if you really want to research on the issues reported. Hope this helps to buyers!

  • Great phone especially as i use GPS a lot. Only problem i have had is the Wifi doesnt work. When i turn it on it just keeps scanning. Any body else had this issue? Is there a setting i dont have correct?

  • i have the same problem here!

  • Hi there, every now and then when im writing a text message of brwosing the net the phone will either just go back to the hom screen or open up the widgets menu. Then the home, menu and return buttons will not work. Sometimes the phone wont even go into stand by when i push the off button. Just wondering how i can fix this? Thanks!

  • Camera in my opinion is no better or worse than any other mobile phone I have owned and lets face facts at the price this phone is being sold for the camera is exactly what I would expect .

  • Ya! The camera very lousy. Just like a cheap webcam

  • this phone has a bad camera?

  • Have dropped my A10 and screen has broken. Anyone know whether its fixable?

  • Basically everything that i need from an android phone. Even better for drivers like me who needs a GPS system. Do not need to buy a Portable Navigation Device again. Looks good too.

  • Try right clicking on link and then save as . After file has downloaded try opening . I have tried this link on 4 different computers and it has worked on all of them .

  • Tried link given by you. 2 points--- 1) Manual pdf doesnt open. 2) Siteredirects to purchase optio.

  • A10 Owners Manual :

  • 1)Tried copying Contacts from Sony Ericsson P1i. But unable ti find the way to do it. Can someone help me how I can copy all contacts? 2) How do I copy all Songs from SD card to Phone's Internal Memory? 3) Where can I find the User Manuual? This Model Number doesnt exist anywhere and Garmin Asus Support site is inactive..it seems 4) And last, like others have a Qn..wat to do to avoid blank screen? I am contactbale on 9967506039.

  • HI all, Those who r facing d blankscreen problem , just remove ur top plastic cover on the screen...its just d proximity sensor working in full flow:P:) I just debugged it, happy:)

  • Hi guyz!! I recently purchased Garmin-asus a10 with 2.1 eclair. I experience this already said problem of 'screen goin blank wen u dail a number'. please do come up with some solutions . The software upgrade provided in thr website is for 1.6 version, so dnt know wot to do, plz help.

  • Hi, Just an update regarding the fix for the current software problem we are experiencing with our A10 units. ASUS are currently working on a tool to downgrade the software on your A10 back to 3.5.7. The expected release date for this tool is early next week. Although the fix will solve the issues we have been having, it is likely that all contact and phone information will be lost in the downgrade. I suggest running a backup using the PC Sync software which is available off the Garmin-Asus site. I apologise for the delay. Thanks,

  • Hi. I have imported all my contacts over but when i retstarted the phone all the contacts went dissapeared. Why is this happening? How can i make sure all the contacts stay after swutching the phone off?

  • I can't find that adw.launcher anywhere. Android Market says it isn't there. Anyone else able to find it? Am I doing something wrong? Also, after the upgrade to the firmware, when I go to unlock the phone (double-pressing) the touch screen isn't always responsive. This is the only instance it isn't responsive. Was fine before the upgrade. Anyone else experience this?

  • A few are askin about a home screen replacement. Ive paid for a lot to trial and after all that the best running one is adw.launcher and its free, give it a go. Loads of customisation options

  • Got the phone last week and love it. I have a Motorola Milestone XT720 too. In comparison, the A10 is much smoother in operations (no lag when switching between apps) than the Milestone XT which is suppose to be faster. I am suspecting that this is due to the double amount of memory available on the A10. With the A10, I am able to have the video recording while driving (Using the Dailyroads app) in the background, GPS in the foreground and manage to take a call without a hitch. My Milestone XT simply refuses to do all that, at least not concurrently. As for battery life, the A10 beats the Milestone XT flat. For those who wants to have longer battery life, use Juice Defender available free on Market Place. Battery life should improve at least 1.7 times. The only areas that the Milestone XT does better is the superior screen resolution, responsiveness of the the touch screen, gallery app and better camera with flash. Overall, in my opinion, the A10 is a superior Android phone. I saw a review on DL today on A10 and I think the person either has a different A10 phone or does not even know how to use the phone.

  • Hi i purchased this mobile recently. Good : 1. Map and Navigation 2: Smooth Touch screen and speed internet. 3. avg camera Problem:1. bad battery life 2. bad sound output via headphone 3. screen goes blank sometime on calls. Common Asus come out with the solution of good battery life

  • When the update for 2.2 froyo will be available?

  • hey guys may i know where can i find some garmin asus a10 screen replacer ,there is nothing available on the web.

  • hw long will Garmin-Asus A10 need to be updated??

  • I did not know that phones comes with GPS that is even better than a Portable navigation device.Fantastic phone to have. the best android phone. will surely recommend it. the built in GPS is fast and accurate.

  • I live in Nz and have had the A10 for nearly a week now. This is my second smartphone, the first being a Samsung I had for nearly 2 yrs running windows 6. I chose this phone for the in built garmin GPS which works great both in the car and on foot around town. very helpful for my business as I do alot of site visits with customers. I use Gmail so email shortcut being in first row of apps is great although the touch screen qwerty board takes some getting use to after having a full qwerty keypad. The browser takes some getting used as well. Not sure if this is because I'm used to windows as I struggle to return to my homepage. love the fact I can turn off Data and use WIFI at home etc(old news to many i'm sure but is my first ph in 2 yrs) Love the fact I can plug in my own earplugs and speakers unlike many phones. Don't know if it's just me but when I connect with the laptop via the usb if you don't push file connect on the phone it doesn't show up in My computer(unlike my windows 6.1) The negitives i have so far are, 1/ The camera's crap,my samsung only had a 1.3MP and the pics were better. You'd expect so much more with a 5mp so very disappointed there.I actually wonder if it has something to do with back case as you have the glass lens then the 2 or 3mm approx gap to the plastic lens cover on the back plate.it could be causing some distortion. 2/This could be just my phone but, The speaker vibrates and i find it very annoying when I'm listening up to my ear so either somethings loose in there or the speakers just crap quality. You can make it vibrate by holding the phone up to your ear and with your index finger tap the speaker lightly on the back case. 3/Listening to any audio is average if using the in built speaker, again my two yr old ph's speaker was far better quality. 4/battery life.I expected what i got and that's having to recharge it every night. 5/sometimes it lags badly when you turn the screen side on and if you go back to front on it can often stay side on. I have experience none of the other problems some people are having and I think it is a great phone but for someone who loves Asus's laptops I think they have a lot to learn when it comes to smartphones. Although i will learn to live with it's shortcomings I would have rathered paid more for the phone to get a good quality camera and speaker and maybe a faster processor.

  • Yes

  • Mine does that to,it even disconnects the phone call sometimes!

  • the m10 does not need a network card for navigation. Is the same for the a10?

  • In reply to Navagator. Do download Trip and Waypoint Manager (popularly known as Mapsource) and use it to manipulate the waypoints on the unit and to back it up and edit them outside the device. Download XImage to take screenshots of the device in Garmin mode to send to someone to explain a problem or solution. Downdload Dnote POIEdit to create GPX waypoints from any seached item in Wikimapia. In wikimapia the pop-up box on a marked place has the coordinates in dd mm ss. POIEDit converts them into the dd.mmssss format usable in your Garmin. Visit www.takitwithme.com and view the video to learn how to quickly load Waypoints from Google maps straight to your GPS within minutes and Take off. For hiking and trekking custom maps you will need to use free versions of Geopainting GPSMapedit, cGPSMapper to create a floating Garmin map and Mapset Toolkit along with IMG2GPS or Mapsource to install to the device. POILoader will also allow creation of custom speed alerts apart from the custom proximity alarms. Explore the better part of Garmin. Dont be satisfied with what comes out of the box

  • For those using Navionics the A10 works great esp. with its stand alone gps (offshore) If you get stuck at the 'decompressing verifying' screen and it will not finish simply do this. Exit Navionics program connect to computer (file transfer),go to SD card, open Navionics, then charts folder, unzip to same location, then delete .zip. You may need be uninstall program and re-install (it will NOT download the charts again unless a chart update is needed)

  • So you recommend me to get this?

  • A10 definitely better of the 2 phones .

  • Hey guys! I'm planning to either get a A10 or a Motorola Milestone. I'm not really into the GPS thing but i choosing among both because its both running on Android.I heard the Motorola Milestone can be rooted to a higher processor speed but i heard its very problematic. So,do you all think i should go with the A10 or Motorola Milestone?

  • i use it to make call but once the call is connected, the screen black out but the call still goes on. no matter what i press, i couldn't light up the screen again. why? can any 1 pls help out. thank you and may god bless u.

  • The best android phone in terms of features but not name

  • its downloaded but gets stuck right at the end it keeps saying verifying for hrs not too sure what to do.

  • map for others country can be download for free or pay? how to get the map download?

  • should work ok, just make sure your screen doesn't time out between download & instal. ( kept touching the screen etc.) also use wifi & your home broadband as your phones data plan will likely take a big dollar hit with the size of navionics charts.

  • This is a very good phone and navigation device that does exactly what the manufacturer says, and I really like it, ....in fact I think it is better than my previous iphone in that reception is much improved and screen is very clear. Have not found any bugs with it, only the 'wake up' button is a bit fiddly. Construction is first class ....certainly better than any phone I have had to date.

  • just wondering how you got the navtronics marine map to fully install and work on your a10 as i am having some issues?? from what ive seen so far the app isnt supported on the phone

  • no, it doesnt have video call feature.

  • Does this phone have video call feature?

  • I think it is the other way round. Just a couple of people have issues and most really like this phone. I think the A10 is awesome and for the $$ is the best phone out there. I also use Marine Navigation on mine (Navionics) and it works perfectly out of range of any Carrier with its stand alone GPS. (assisted GPS, Aided GPS and Stand alone GPS)

  • Why is everyone including my self having problems with this phone and yet they keep selling it. Mine does random stuff like going to different screens , i have the widget screen come up half way through other operations i have the alarm not working, the volume change on it's own and yet no fixes !!!!

  • Fantastic phone.

  • Love this phone. Basically has two feature n one single device. Android + Garmin

  • It all depends on whether you like android or i/os. phones these days are all the same. Its all about which operating system you like. For me, i will choose the A10 for its cost, android o/s and Garmin GPS

  • Got mine on an Optus $29 a month plan with 200mb of data included. I was hoping it would make my Ipod touch redundant and I could put all my music and stuff onto it. I have a 32G SD in it so storage is not a problem. I just don't like the layout for the music and I don't know how to make my own directories for podcasts, etc. Everything is in one directory on the screen, all in alpha order. Another annoying thing...the volume is set too low on max. I like really loud music sometimes but you just can't get it on this phone. I know there is a thing out there called Audio Hack but I have not been able to get it to work. My phone is "rooted". That was easy. The GPS works well, although "fastest" route takes you weird ways sometimes (or tries to..I ignore it).

  • This phone is extremely durable! My SUV ran over this phone and it is still intact & scatch free. Watch the video i uploaded in youtube, you'll be amazed!

  • As far as I can tell the Garmin GPS maps cover the country the phone was purchased in (looking at the Garmin Asus site it looks like you can purchase maps for other countries ) and the Google maps do the rest of the world although you would need an internet connection for those to work properly . Please correct me if I am wrong .

  • Thanks for the solution to the POI problem I have been trying to work that out for a couple of weeks now . Excellent solution and easy too great job . Thanks again and your right this a great phone .

  • thanks l got an a10 with optus last week & its working great so far. had about 600 waypoints to add to the phone & discovered that these are not searchable. they only list by "distance order" and are not sorted "alpha/numeric"...thought there must be a way to fix this and there is! saved my gpx file into a POI folder on my pc, then used garmins POI loader to install onto phone. my 600 waypoints now live in "extras" and now have an alpha/numeric search function! this phone is awesome!

  • can anybody pls tell me the GPS coverage for hw many country? many thks

  • i would like to know which one is better between the garmin-asus M10 and A10. planning to get one but not sure which one to go for. btw, are this phones better than the i phone 4?

  • I would suggest that you and your friends take your phones back to where you purchased them and have them checked or repaired . In my experience most problems with the new smartphones is that the users aren't smart enough to read the user manual and the spend countless hours complaining about how bad the phone is . I have owned an A10 since they were first released and have only had a couple of small problems with it and you guessed it they were both solved by reading the manual .

  • I have one of these handsets as do 2 of my friends. they are horribly buggy.. Always laggy and doing crazy things. Then randomly shuts down programs or freezes and touchpad is unresponsive

  • Yes GPS has spoken street names and being a garmin GPS the maps very accurate . Only thing it doesn't do is give traffic warnings . Other than that a very good unit .

  • does the gps map have text to speech? eg: spoken street names. "turn left into Collins street" instead of "turn left in 50 mtrs" etc.

  • ive had the same problems. the widget page keeps turning on & off and vibrates for no reason.took it back to shop to get repaired a week later and still not back

  • Yes this phone has WiFi

  • Hey guys? is there wifi to the phone?

  • you can download games from 4shared.com just type: .apk in the search menu then start downloading!!!

  • you can download games from 4shared.com just type: .apk in the search menu then start downloading!!!

  • This Asus a10 IS GOOD. The msging fnctions is awesome! Its like iphone! But I don't know where to dowload the games as i bought it only yesterdsy... 1/10/2010

  • I spoke with Garmin Australia, the v2.1 Android release is in final functional testing phase. The upgrade from v1.6 to v2.1 will be free of charge, when available. Very good news for what is a very well priced device.

  • Mine is running on Android 2.1. and it comes with Garmin navigation free. Wonder how will standalone GPS survived when garmin asus brand is up.

  • iPhone is a joke its just all hype .

  • Does this phone comes in white?

  • for info .... Platform: Android 1.6 Enhanced CPU: Qualcomm 7227 600MHz Memory: 512MB SDRAM+512MB SLC + 4G eMMC Flash Connectivity: Bluetooth 2.0, WLAN 802.11b/g, USB v2.0 GPS: Qualcomm GPSOne G7 (Assisted GPS, Aided GPS and standalone GPS supported) Display: 3.2" HVGA TFT with capacitive touch Camera: 5 Mega-Pixel, Auto Focus Battery: 1500mAh Lithium Standby Time: Up to 25 days Talk Time: Up to 8 hours

  • reasonable price. very usefull, animation wallpaper, GPS, calling, WIFI, mp3 ringtone, touch screen, free application... much more... compare to Iphone...hmm....not really so...

  • Somebody want to try this and get SU for the A10. Would be nice to get rid of the unwanted 'provider' apps. etc Post back if it works.

  • Just bought the Garmin-Asus A10 and this phone has the best GPS out there . I've owned Nokias Apples Samsungs and Sonys and the A10 kicks major butt in the GPS department excellent phone at a fantastic price .

  • Thanks - I'll check that out

  • Nice. garminasus is doing a great job. something extra on top of the normal android os that all phones already has. Top of the line navigation. Garmin & Android combination

  • As far as the alarm clock issue is concerned you wouldn't have installed any task killing programs by any chance?,if so make sure to put the alarm clock in the ignore list .

  • I use my A10 as my morning alarm clock - it's set to ring each week day morning. I've set it just the once. The first two weeks its was fine - now in the last two weeks it has randomly not rung on 3 mornings. Has anyone else experienced this problem?... and how'd you fix it? My other serious issue - when I sync my outlook calendar to my phone, my appointments appear in my phone calendar, one AFTER the event was to happen :( I've checked the location and date/time settings and they all appear to be fine.... Any ideas??? thanks!

  • Obviously the specs listed here at GSMarena are incomplete. The Garmin-Asus A10 mobile phone definitely has WiFi. Also I have previously owned an Apple iPhone and the A10 battery easily does as good if not better than the iPhone did .

  • But u r not add in gsmarena website.

  • This phone has WiFi and it works very well to .

  • this phone feature is good but Wi-fi is not there n bettry backup is less other wise this phone is very good.

  • Just got my phone back from the menders, but now my computer (an imac) freezes when the iphoto opens and the computer only see's 1 memory-I have the garmin and extra memory. And the geo- tagged photo's seem all to say I am in Nigera!!!! Very annoying.

  • I have never had a problem with the battery on the A10 I usually get a couple of days use before it needs a recharge . Which I consider to be extremely good for this type of mobile phone .

  • The battery life absolutely sucks on this phone. Tonight it went through 50% in about 2 hours of moderate use. Other than that it's a good phone.

  • ..and if that does not work then use task killer and kill the 'widget' application after you have used it. Otherwise it will run in the background and possibly cause issues. I know its not perfect but TBH I don't use the widgets that much anyway. My A10 runs fast and smooth without any issues now.

  • Every now and again I got the widget screen randomly pop up and also the left soft 'return' button does not work immediately. I have cleaned up my widget pages and have installed task killer which I use frequently. I have also installed a screen protector from an iphone. I don't have any more problems since doing this. It may be a capacitive touch screen issue or too many applications running at once..I don't know??..but I'm happy now :)

  • I dont have this problem with the GPS. it its still a fantastic phone to have

  • Had exactly the same problem!! Its in for repair at the moment...Was impossible to use as GPS in car since it switched to the widget screen all the time!

  • It's worth looking at Asus Garmin A10 Support site. I Googled your problem ..and there seem to be a lot of responses...most of which are useless...just some fool getting as many hits as he can...to increase advertising revenue. But Google away...you never know what will come up

  • Hi, I really need some help, I have a lot of trouble with my phone: GPS doesnt work anymore, Apps freeze all the time, can never open gallery and so on. So I want to do a "Master Clear", but when I try this I get the following message: "no reset was performed because the System Clear service is not available" Anyone know how to do a Hard Reset of the A10? Or have some other solution. Thx in advance.

  • I really likie this phone but have started having bad problems with the aplications. when i am using an application or when im using the GPS function, the widgets screen will repeatedly pop up all by itself. sometimes it closes all by itself but generally i have to press the home key to get rid of it. As you can imagine it is extreemely frustrating when time after time after time when you are trying to do something you are interupted by the screen and are forced to close out of what you are doing. I have read on other forums several other people are experiencing the same issue

  • To those wondering when the fabled upgrade to Android 2.1 will finally arrive..... Yesterday, I called Garmin support and asked WHEN it would come. The lady went away, and I guess asked someone else. She came back and said "There will be a NEW Garmin released at the end of September. It will have a different name from A10" I can only conclude that the A10 has proven to be too problem ridden/too unpopular/too unsaleable. I'll wait a couple of months. I can only conclude the A10 is history. Time will tell.

  • I just bought this phone a few days back. Its an amazing phone. Finally Garminasus is using android os which means more apps just like the iphone. The GPS is free without any downloading needed. works just like a standalone GPS. Android + Garmin = Best phone . definitely better than the IPHONE

  • Thanks but it was not Google maps update it was a Garmin free update I did at home just before I went on holiday.

  • the garmin map stop working message did come out but it the map was still working after the message. Another thing i found out was updating google map made the garmin map buggy so I uninstalled it

  • 2.1 update where where where!!!

  • I just got back from holiday in the Check republic, and of course I took my phone. I took some pictures withe the geo tag on-ok...but soon I found that only a few had the geo tag on it-no idea why, maybe poor satellite or something? I switched of my internet so I would not have a huge bill this month and thought to use the wifi-and that did not seem to work, always too poor reception,of course this could all be down to the Check systems??? The Garmin maps have so far to my knowledge never worked. Even with me doing the free map update. It comes up with "Garmin maps has stopped working, please try again later". Any one else had this "problem?"

  • I didnt get the phone jet, but i like the look and some of the opinions i read, im going to have it, ill text after and tell you how it works for me.;)

  • I have found that once you have the blue USB polling mode it will recurr again.I did get it again on Friday. I am returning mine and I am going with something else. So expect it to happen again

  • Hi I am new to this. Are the apps that can be used on this A10 phone similiar to the apps that I have used for my iTouch. How do I access them using the A10. Also can my music that is my iTouch be moved across to the A10?

  • I have had this phone for a few days only now all I could say is it is amazing. I use it as a business phone and make and receive at least 3hrs of calls a day. So I have given a good run so far compared to general users. Battery Life is excellent. Phone quality is awesome. Navigation is just as good as it gets. Touchscreen is much better than my previous HTC HD Touch. Interface is amazing, easy to use. You will not regret buying this phone. I have read that there is a new Android 2.1 version update at the end of this month. I hope this will fix any glitches that the phone has. I still believe even the Android 1.6 version it is good enough. I hope my review will give some of you a positive look at this phone as I have read alot of negative reviews here and also had doubts about purchasing this phone also when I read alot of negative reviews of people have bad experiences with this phone. I hope they have had their phones fixed. I had the blue screen pop up also when I purchased this phone. It happened when I tried to turning it on when charging on the usb on the PC. Message came up USB Polling etc.. I removed the battery and then turned on the phone and then put it back on the charger. It is running fine at the moment. I am sure there a some glitches but nothing that I haven't come across on all the previous mobles I have had. After all even the new iphone 4g is having some issues and this handset is meant to be the perfect phone :) for some. Good Luck

  • I have 2 of the A10's. One for me and one for my wife. Have had none of the issues expressed here. The GPS works very well better than the Mio I have just sold. Garmain Maps does not use any data as it is a dedicated GPS unlike the majority of other smartphones which use Google maps. Garmin also has Google maps and all the other Google goodies. Android apps are the equivilent of iPhone apps you just need to use Androidzoom.com to make it easy to install. Had one issue with a none charging (in the car holder) battery. having 2 A10's allowed me to simply swap one to the other and then everything was fine. the cure was installing the battery and sitting the A10 in the car holder and this initiallised hte battery. I expect that there could be some lemons out there in such a new phone (not unlike hte iPhone) but for the price this has to be the best value for money smartphone on the market.

  • How was your phone all-round. Outside of the bluescreens did it work properly or was it like mine?

  • I have already spoken to support and they are aware of the problem. All I did last night was plug it into the charger and the minute i did that it went blue. Now I have no phone as it is been cancelled as 3 in a row is a bit much to be honest. Also last week the gps side played up as well while navigating so the phone has problems and I do not believe I am the only one. I am disapointed as the phone showed a lot of promise.

  • I am disapointed as well but i cannot believe I am the only one that is having this problem. I have talked to Garmin support and they have sent emails off to taiwan to let them know what is going on. Support has told me that the only way for it to go into polling mode is for certain keys to be pressed in a certain sequence. I even have picts of it being in that mode. Really 2 phones in a row means there is a problem somewhere Well Optus has cancelled my contract for me with no penalty and is taking the phone back.

  • Hello. We are keen to know how to reproduce the problem "it has gone Blue screen with the ***usb polling mode***". Could you describe in more details? Or I can ask our staffs to contact with you to understand more. I am sorry to hear your user experience, and we are committed to make improvement!

  • On the 26th of last month i posted 2 comments about the phone well Tonight my phone has done it again it has gone Blue screen with the ***usb polling mode*** this is the third phone. I will have to take the battery out to fix it. Also last week the maps would not render properly and the voice went all funny. My advice buy something else. To Garmin ....you have problems with your phone which need to be fixed.

  • Hi I have just purchased one of these phones. Can you use Wi-fi with it to reduce download costs and does using the GPS use up download or is it built in to the phone and separate.

  • I haven't had any problems. I have found the GPS useful in the car a few times. I managed to customise my ring and notification tones - which is a must for me. Not sure how to go about getting a protective cover for the screen tho. Any suggestions would be appreciated. :)

  • Glad I wasn't the only one to have problems. I tried to return mine but they wouldn't take it back. I guess I could have pushed harder but I didn't really care because I still had a Nokia handset that I like so I put the Garmin-Asus in a drawer and forgot about it. Well the Nokia died so I had to use the A10 again. It has become even worse. It is like the phone has a disease that makes it progressively deteriorate. The new thing now is, when making a call, you open the dialer and then find a contact and press call. The dialer then crashes, but the call continues. Now you have an outgoing call but you cant relaunch the dialer. You cannot hang up on this call. All the while you are frantically trying to open the dialer other pieces of softare are launching and closing on their own. The shortcuts screen launches and closes over and over. Eventually you have to take the battery out to stop the phone call. Please no one buy this phone.

  • It is the limitation of Android 1.6 to transfer file via BT. But it is resolved in Android 2.1 onwards. So stay tune for the SW upgrade. Cheers,

  • Yes, it does support Wifi Go to Settings > Wireless Manager > Wi-Fi to turn it on Cheers

  • Returned my A10 today after weeks of it randomly activating its sensor buttons. You could be sitting there with the phone on and the widget screen would come up then back to the home screen then a settings screen. This even happened while driving using the NAV app. I dont believe this is software but more a hardware issue as I could make the vibration of a key press occur by squeezing both sides of the case and having nothing near the home or back button.

  • Very nice handset

  • yes it does. especially when it is on the mount in car.

  • Does the phone seem to get hot when recharging?

  • By foot its great I have not tried it in the car yet.

  • Its a miss of a smart phone. The screen is too small to use in a car so unless you are walking and need directions then buy a Tom Tom or something of the like. You just can't throw a phone like this up in the company of the Samsung Galaxy S and the new iPhone 4 and expect it to be a hit. Would have been the bee's knee's 2 years ago...

  • how is the garmin navigation app on the phone? how good is it?

  • Just bought the phone-3 days ago. I have an imac and thought I would try out the photo's. So I took some and then tried to send them by bluetooth to my iphoto map. Well that does not work. I could/can only send them to picasa. Is it possible to send photo's by bluetooth to my computer?

  • yes its does.with speaker on the cradle

  • Does it comes with a car kit for this GarminAsus phone ?

  • Had this phone only for a few days, been a Nokia boy all my life... finding it hard to learn this system, but, im certainly warming to it, have it auto syncing with Wifi at home, and only using the data out and about... Which is handy for downloading big files, and browsing lots. Can thoroughly recommend it, no idea about battery life as its in the charger or cradle, but the GPS is better than my navman!!!

  • Yes it does have wifi. Haven't used it yet as I need to find my encryption key...

  • This is my first smartphone too. I'm enjoying it. Seems easy enough to use. Like Vic said earlier, some sort of leather case would be good. Btw, how do you protect the screen from bumps and scratches? Also, haven't tried it yet, but i'm hoping that I can import a new notification sound like you can a ringtone... :)

  • does it have wifi

  • great! this means that we shall get an android garmin, even if garmin dosn't release it to other android handsets hackers and developers would do the job!

  • Bought the A10 2 days ago - having a wonderful experience so far; it has the advantage too, of not constantly polling the network like, say, that other really over-popular smartphone we all know about. This will mean the data usage will be more manageable (read: cheaper) - and theres not much out there that can beat a $29 plan with a $0 smartphone. Userbility - agreed, a little fiddly - but a lot of fun!

  • I'll try to return my phone but I am pretty sure there needs to be a hardware problem to get a new handset. After using the phone for a week the major problem I have with it now that I can't get used to is that it is now taking me 30+ tries pressing the back button for it to work. This happens on every piece software or every piece of the user interface except the desktop. I have the phone set to vibrate on key presses. While on the desktop I can tell that the slightest touch registers as a key press. Also while pressing many times in a row I can feel that every touch registers as a key press. So there is no hardware problem with this, it is simply a software problem. I don't know how the software is this bad.

  • Just to clarify about Garmins support. When I called the support line the guy on the phone told me that Garmin only supported the navigation side of the phone. The hardware side was not a Garmin problem and that I had to call optus to get it fixed. I did ask him again just to make sure.

  • I will ring sales tomorrow and talk to them about it. The phone has worked okay today but i must be very unlucky for some reason. Can anyone explain what usb polling means

  • Hello. I am very sorry to hear about your experience with the A10. I am a salesperson for Optus Melbourne. I have sold 28 of these handsets since lauch on the first week of June. None of my customers have reported any of your concerns. I believe you are very unfortunate. You are still covered by a 12 month warranty. Please contact the sales channel you purchased the handset from and they will action a warranty claim for you. Again, I am sorry for your negative customer experience. Please hang in there. Kind regards.Steve

  • GPS is on by default. You can turn off GPS by Settings -> System -> Security & Location -> Enable GPS Satellites is unchecked. For more FAQs please refer to Please contact with Garmin customer support hotline again at 1-800-552-608. They will help you not only the navigation, but the handest problems as well.

  • So far I have been disapointed in my phone. This is my second one and I am having problems with it. Here are my problems. First the gps would not turn off. When i rebooted it the phone went into a blue screen and into a Usb polling mode and the phone froze. This morning the phone did exactly what my first phone which optus exchanged and the side widgets disapeared and the phone froze. So far I would not recommend this phone to anyone till the problems are sorted. On the first phone I called Garmin support and told them of my first problem on the first phone i had. They told me that they do not support the phone only supply the navigation software. So I had to call Optus

  • I'm buying one tomorrow btw Sync software is here ...

  • Yes, Blue-Tooth headset Good. Phone Good - but a bit fiddly. GPS Great So Far Very happy

  • are you using a mac computer? if so, the software is not compatible.

  • take it back to the provider and have it sent away under warranty.

  • yes, this handset does have a 3.5mm headphone jack.

  • Hi there, I was wondering if this phone has a 3.5mm headphone socket?

  • Are you able to download Skype on this phone?

  • Optus website lists this at $29 social cap, $) upfront with $50 online bonus credit to your bill. The 5 months free access is BS, as promos are only up to 3 months free access on some handsets ie E71 etc. WOuld this work on macs? What Androis OS is it?

  • I have just acquired my Garmin Asus A10 and have been very impressed with it. The phone runs smoothly and once you get used to the keyboard, typing (albeit with two thumbs) is positive and accurate. The on phone manual is informative and easy to use. This is my first "smart"phone and I am amazed how intuitive it is to use. If however if something does go wrong, it comes with a 24 month warranty and you can't beat that, all for $29.00 a month. I am impressed.

  • This phone is broken. Ok. This phone is very new (has been out in Australia for about a week). I got one through Optus on a $29 plan. I don't know if it is my phone or the model but mine works so poorly it is broken. This is made worse by the fact that this phone is seemingly unsupported. Being a phone developed by 2 companies Garmin and Asus neither have decided to support it on their support pages. On each manufacturers web page to request support you have to fill in your phone model/ serial number etc. The A10 is not listed on either of the manufacturers support pages to be able to forward a message on to support. Further, the support page on Garmins site points to the Asus site for support for the A10 and the support page on the Asus site points to the Garmin site for the A10. I am also sure this phone has been rushed to market. There is currently no PC software out for this phone. No sync or phone browsing software. The instructions that came with my phone said to install the software off the CD before plugging it into the computer with the USB cable. There was no CD in the box and there is nowhere on the Garmin or Asus sites that point to this software existing. Here is a copy+paste of my of my comment on the Asus website (the only place I thought I might get some support) ------ Hi. Firstly this question is about the Garmin-Asus A10 Not the G60 as listed because the A10 isn't in the list. This phone is new and currently there is no support for it. The www.garminasus.com site leads here for support and the link for support on this site leads back to www.garminasus.com. Not helpful. I realize this may not be the right place for this but there is no where else to put it currently. I'm in Australia and I got the A10 today on a plan with Optus. My phone is working poorly to the point of being totally broken. Its problems are all related to software and user interface but they go way beyond problems like slow or hanging processes, poor capacitive touch etc. At the moment every single piece of the user interface, applications and the 3 standard touch buttons is broken. While I am using the phone, applications or pieces of the user interface will randomly open and close. Things will just open themselves. The 3 buttons never work ether taking up to 10 presses to work or registering multiple presses at once. The 'widgets' menu will open all of the time. I am sure I am not pressing anything because when I was using the phone as a GPS, 10 minutes after I had set it up and didn't touch again, the widgets menu would open. This happened about 5 times today. I also must point out that all these problems have been tested by very slowly, preciesly and calmly using the phone. It wasn't storing actions while processing and then dumping the stack of actions resulting in weird behavior. I put the phone on a table and used 1 finger to slowly use the phone and these problems were numerous. An example of the problems. If you know the A10, it has 2 menu sets that display together. You can drag the smaller menu (sort of) over the larger menu to only display only the small menu. Going through testing what was working and what wasn't this was the sort of thing that was happening. -Tried to drag the smaller menu over the larger to only display the smaller menu -It didn't work so try again -15+ times dragging the menu before it stays in place and displays. -Open the widgets menu -Try to exit the widgets menu using the home button -Doesnt work -10+ tries using the home button the close the widgets menu -Open the widgets menu -6 tries on the home button the close it -Open the widgets menu -Closes first time -Open the widgets menu -8 tries on the home menu to close it This was the same for the back button. I am sure the screen is not damaged it is the software not registering. Apart from these problems the phone just has all round crazy problems. None of the buttons in the software (these are not the three touch buttons) ever works the same way. I have only checked the software that came installed but all of it acts crazy. Sometimes the phone will spaz out and launch and close several things at once. It looks possessed. What is going on with my phone. I see there are no software updates released yet. Is my phone broken or is the A10 really this bad of a phone? ----- I had another look at the phone today. Outside of the many and vast technical problems that I found I really think this phone is poorly design. It suffers from a lot of the problems new Nokias have in trying to get pieces of the user interface do what PCs can. Things that should be easy and obvious. Some examples. -The browser is crippled. It can surf fine but has no functionality like saving files and images, launching video in a separate app etc. You can read web pages and search for text in a page but that's it. -There is no real file browser and apps that need one don't have one. I plugged the phone into the computer and moved an image to gallery to set as a wallpaper. When I went to view it, it wasn't there. There was no way to get the gallery to search for images, file browse and find the image, or refresh the gallery. What is worse is that I went back 10 minutes later and suddenly the image was there. The same problem affects many of the apps. None of the apps treat data as something they can share so it becomes impossible to do anything with any media without using workarounds or plugging the thing into the computer to move things. It really defeats the purpose of a smart phone. -The phone can play-back video as in you can record and play video but the phone has no video player app. I couldn't launch the video I moved across from my PC because I couldn't get it to come up the gallery. -The menu system has heaps and heaps of inbuilt apps/functionality that no one wants. Its ok to have a few branded icons for the carrier built into the phone but this phone has about 60 icons for apps in the menus. If I could delete them I think I would use about 7 of them. Conclusion My phone is technically broken and has many many bad design and user interface problems. If it does turn out there is something wrong with my phone or Garmin or Asus (or android) release an updates that fixes some or all of theses problems I will retract some or all of this review.

  • To get songs as ring tones just select song a keep finger on song until popup comes up with "use as ring tone".

  • To get songs as ring tones just select song a keep finger on song until popup comes up with "use as ring tone". Connected device to car bluetooth but music and map nav does not go through speaker, disappointing.

  • That should be very easy: connect the USB cable, select Mass storage/File transfer mode and your Phone and/or it's attached SD card will come up like any other storage (on Windows). Then just drag over the stuff you want into the Media folder. on the other hand: Yep - The Manual is now finally working on the support page, the PC Sync is still somewhere else than the link points to :-) ! Despite the initial support problems, I have to say, this is a rather NICE and versatile "All-around Gizmo" , that I'd absolutely recommend to anyone - especially in it's price tag!

  • i got this phone and i must say for 29social cap this phone is pretty awesome, have had no issues with links on garmin site since my purchase. just waiting for some accsessories to start coming out for it, would really love a nice leather case or something

  • I just got this fone, and i've figured out most things, but i wanted to put my songs on as the ringtone..is anyone able to help me with this?? thanks in advance

  • I also cannot download the PCsync. The link is not working. Did anyone have that file? The User's manual is downloadable now.

  • Hi There, I can't find the PC Sync software either. Was looking for it (and other things) everywhere, dead links on all sites ! (The local AU support seems to be forgotten at the time of making this phone available to the market) Hope this issue will be addressed by a few of us as the time goes by. Same goes for the "supposedly" full manual that the quick guide & help menu keeps referring to . Once more of us will own this handset (which is a nice one anyway) and keeps bringing-up the support issue, hopefully these problems will be sorted.

  • How do you get 5 months free access?

  • yeah good call there moto_fan, the motoblur phones r really good. ive played with them and reckon they are the best phones out atm..

  • try again http:// www.garminasus.com /en_US /support/pcsync try the us site at garminasus.com go to support its in there. this site doesnt like me posting direct links. so I have tried with a couple of spaces in the www.

  • check out the us site

  • Hi there, any idea where I can get the PCSync software from? The www.garminasus.com/pcsync which is referenced in the manual - link is dead

  • Picked one up yesterday - Comes with WiFi. Cannot find the PC Sync software for the life of me!

  • hi! to those interested we can offer this at 29cap 0$ upfront - optus. 5mos free access fees.

  • Available on $29 cap with Optus $0 upfront for the handset if it is a telemarketing call. If you will be visiting the Optus website it is available on $49 cap.

  • price will be around $449 AUD

  • when will come out?????????? why no radio??? perhap the price < 1300+++, and hope the battery life can maintain at least 2day

  • Android Garmin-Asus phone. whao.

  • it has Wifi..

  • finally. garmin on android. i hope it could be installed also on other android phones

  • asus, please get real, stop these toys because its time to rock!!!
