Sometimes if I try open some files wen the battery is at 50% it cud shutdown without a warning the problem also wll be on Restarting it, it could be a process and sometimes it could take 1hour Loading Eesh!!please try to improve this Phone cuz u will lose many customers I will never buy it.....

  • I bought the 610c four years ago, was my third Ipaq, it was expensive and very soon was outperformed by other smart phones. Althought it has a lot of facilities it is complicated to use, not friendly at all. Even when I changed the battery it resets by itself very frequentely, this is very annoying. I will not buy any Ipaq anymore, I have been very dissapointed for long time. I am going to discard it very soon.

  • is worst phone I also ever have, beside I pay quite expensive is not practise at all. is difficult to use as a phone and is complicate to use as computer,

  • you are absolute wrong

  • about the battery auto shut off, search on the internet for this file sp38904.exe and download it, then open the program, the files will be installed in your C:\iPAQ directory, read the README instruction.

  • George phone turn off when battery reaches 50% because it's old battery, when battery new and original that problem will not happen. I upgrade my HP 614c on Windows mobile 6.1. upgrade firmware too, and phone works great. I have only one problem with GPRS because he don't turn off automatics when I exit from browser. But phone is great very easy for navigate, smart wheal on manila edition is perfect, and I reccomend for install a few programs that improve a functionality of that phone like is Inesoft Phone EX v5.0 that fix problems of time lag after you answer to phone, and WoW HD that improves sound louds level and qualitly also, and Resco contact manager. I love this phone becaus he have option for touch screen and hardware classic keyboard. Only Motorola Droid pro XT610 have that but that phone is expensive like a two hp 614c. Great phone with a lot of acessories is business navigator, you can repair yourself with manuals on youtube, web and buy almost every part of him.

  • I bought 614c several years ago and I must say that it is the worst phone I have ever had. It is a business phone, somebody said it is not pleasure. I totally agree, but it is definitely not business, far from it. Most basic features that any phone have like calling is not working at all. When battery reaches 50% it tends to freeze but only when somebody calls you and you can guess, when you restart it you will not see any missed calls. Most annoying thing is that during that period when it is friezed it will give ringing sign to anyone who is calling you but you will not be aware of that in any way. Same goes with SMS, etc. Business they said, oh yes, in your dreams. That phone cost me lot of money because of those calls that I was not aware of. I applied upgrades, send emails to support, nothing has been done and to be honest I didn't expect it to be because that is how it is designed and implemented. There's nothing professional in it it. I'll not mention other issues, they were told over and over. HP, yours very disappointing and never again customer.

  • Nice

  • click here to upgrade firmware n bios click here to buy battery. click here to find windows mobile software.

  • Replace your battery and it will be ok. I use this great phone about half year and I am very satisfy. Recommend all that upgrade windows mobile to 6.5. and install aplication Resco contact manager, this is better than Manilla Touch sense who can also can be install on this phone. For this phone you have many aplications for free, install Omarket and Marketplace to install all for free.

  • I used this great iPAQ for 1 year, great in every way untill the day that it just "died", can´t charge battery or turn it on and tech support is not the best. Did it happened the same to anyone? I'd apreciate some feedback. :)

  • In order to set any tune as alarm in the HP iPAQ, all you need to do is convert your tune to wave and place it directly in the windows folder (and not any subfolder), then it should show up on the list of alarm tunes to choose from.

  • where are you here HP ipaq 614c upgrade and other applications?

  • great phone bun my HP i lost :((((((

  • I have both Ipaq 612C and Nokia 5800. In comparing that two, in term of GPS sattelite reception, 612C is much better than Nokia. Maybe bcoz Garmin Windows Mobile version is better than Symbian version. When it comes to battery 5800 is 150% better than 612C. Anybobody can tell me where I can buy second battery for this Ipaq 612C?

  • Just buy my hp 612c last week (24 April 2010). With Windows Mobile 6.5. Firmware 8.8 - Got wireless and Sound after install application. - Always "hang".. Solution. Upgraded firmware 8.9 from HP website. Result...TIP TOP. No issue at all. I install a lot application without any issue.. After used it while...only not satisfied with Sound quality and Camera quality.. HP should start used Carl Zeis Camera and create Secondary camera for iPAQ Model...

  • I agree, mine turns off about every hour, even if it's fully charged, ring tones are too quiet, when it's in the car using the GPS, it stops charging suddenly. HP won't even answer my emails about it. Very annoyed with HP over this phone.

  • My 614 resets itself about every hour or so and normally when I am on a call or sending an SMS. Has anyone else had this problem or am I the only one?

  • My friend had this phone for several months as he got it cheap from a relative who works for HP. He had a lot of trouble with it, from poor battery life, freezes and random restarts, to poor audio quality, trouble with bluetooth(many standard headsets did not work and it had trouble pairing with other phones) and wi-fi connections among others. The only thing that was cool about it was scroll keypad wheel. The touch screen required you to use the stylus all the time. Finally he just couldn't wait to get rid of it, and he got a Nokia 5800 which wasn't that great either.

  • Its a wonderful phone, it gives me confidents, and makes my daily activities easy. And i see it as my mobil office.Although, i prefare silver colour, and i wish that it stillcome with its short antena, HpIpaq 2004. Thak you.

  • how can i put a song in alarm

  • This PDA is the best phone i have ever had. Only thing i do not like is the short batery life. I ordered new one but I still did not received it. Recomendation on this device.

  • one of the best phone i have. i never find the problem with this phone. one i dont like from this phone is about size this phone is to fat....

  • This PDA is a really nice looking one, the keypad closes the gap between ppl that don't like to write on virtual keyboards and those who like to write a message on the run. I have one of these for 1 and half year and i must say that the performance isn't that good at all but it does it's job with a good bunch of features. Hardware wise, the GPS is a bit slow to get satellites on the first run, the Wireless card is quite weak and has been breaking like Pop-Corn. The processor gets overloaded too many times which makes me restart the phone a couple of times per week but still, it does what he's suposed to if we have some patience. Too bad HP decided to remove it from stores soo early and released it in such of a "vanilla" state. It could be better if they wanted to.

  • Take a look @here:

  • THE no radio sucks

  • sure u can, try this site

  • Hi there, i just bought this hp, i hv 2 questions, 1) I just pretty wonder how to install or upload 3D touch interface menu like htc or iphone into this hp? can i download frm website or need the cd software? 2)I feel the speaker is too slow, how to increase the speaker volume? pls advise tqvm cheers diana

  • i see thats nice gudgets as will. i hope i have that right now.

  • Thus anybody update windows on this mobile phone, ipaq 610c

  • i advise you not to buy this phone, my touchscreen was broken 13 months after buying it and they told me that they can't change the touchscreen but only the whole phone and i must pay it.

  • Do NOT buy this phone, unless you like to go to HP service center for their free coffee. I've had this phone for 11 months and the whole phone has been changed once, battery pack - twice. Even then, it still is littered with all sorts of problems listed below: 1. very bad phone reception 2. reception will drop to ZERO when you attempt to call, and then return to full bar after you cancel the call 3. upon reaching 30% battery level, phone shuts down by itself. 4. ringing tone and volume too soft (rendering speakerphone function useless) It has the honor of being the WORST phone I ever owned.

  • Is there any explain & review about HP K2 Obsidian (new gadget)? what is specification on this smartphone & the benefit on it & when available on the global market?

  • If u mean back to standart, just go to : setting - system - factory recovery. Then ur phone would be back to standart again. So far I never problem with this phone (almost 6 month used). So far so good "bruce dickinson"

  • how to instal garmin XT on ipaq 612c ?? thanx for your solutions...

  • does anyone know how to 4mat dis fone?? my uncle gave this to me with the italian language..and i dont know how to use it..

  • business, not pleasure

  • thanx...

  • 614c 9/10, without joistick-not for games.

  • It can record video on QVGA, ~15fps.

  • I liked it a lot, but it broke :( I ve heard that a lot of hp phones fail. Im looking forward to see how the Data Messenger works

  • Great phone except for the speaker and keypad backlight. Powered with 520 MHz processor, it's definitely ready for WM 6.5

  • HP should've gotten rid of that lousy keypad and replaced it with a bigger screen and a simple D-pad. Funny thing is mine has blue backlight for the keypad, as soon as I turn it on, the green dial and red hangup button look exactly the same, blue. This thing also gets awfully hot pretty quick. Don't like it much

  • Anybody knows where i can buy the non camera ipaq 610?

  • Hey guys currently am using ipaq voice messenger...am planning to purchase this model is available in India..? any idea how much it cost ?

  • Depends on Program you are using. Tom Tom Nav 6 needs GPS device as Wired on Com 6 to work. Also remember to assign a home or will take very long time to fix position. This has to be redone for every map you use so if crossing into other countries remember to set Hotel or Work as Home each time.

  • How to use the built-in GPS?

  • hey guys, how can you activate the MMS messaging? still cant receive and send picture messages. tnx

  • using your rom now, your rom rocks man....

  • how much did it cost you in thai baht? thank

  • My Report on use of HP iPAQ 614c ================================= I bought this phone from Thailand and it worked fine and i was starting to like it but later when i came back to my home country it does not search my network, although sometimes it does and little while after it says network not found. After doing a hard reset it seems to solve it. Later on issues popping up: Keypad: some keys are not actually working you have to press them so hard to get response. so it annoys so much when you dial a number and some numbers are missing. Answering a Call: Sometimes the system gets so slow that when you receive a call and press the answer button it delays and even worse disconnects the call. Camera: the digital photos at 3m pixels suck .. theres no use of taking photos at low light conditions and the LED flash no idea why they put it. NO Support Available from HP Speaker Phone: Not loud enough ... i can use it like an ordinary phone lol.

  • for all performance (1-10 scale), what will you give mark?

  • hey just let you guys know i am making wm 6.5 rom for this model, please see for detail, but flash as your own risk even i flash >20 times without bricking my phone

  • I have HP IPAQ 614C since april, 2008 so it is almost 1 year expiriance. E-mail is excellent, Internet also. BUT Phone softweare is worst ever seen, big delay beetween pushing answer and hearing somebody who phoned from other line, and also it can freez like PC.. My next one will not be HP, defently.

  • Well, I have had my iPAQ 614c for 14 days and it has turned in to a brick. It has several flaws the worst of which is a weak support system. Since my phone is used for business only all of the video viewing, music listening, and photo viewing functions are of no consequence. Right out of the box the phone locked up on me. This I found was a known fault and there was a softpack to remedy it. After synchronizing my phone to our exchange server the phone locked up again. Several resets later it started functioning semi reliably. I tethered the phone to my PC and set up an ActiveSync partnership. The phone began sending random UDP and TCP port requests through our firewall which took time to sort out. There are registry entries, in the phone, which cause it to do this. After we thought all was settled we decided to re-apply softpack 40097. That appeared to have all gone fine and the phone carried out a normal reset and started a clean boot which it never recovered from. We loaded the Rom image to a 2gb standard MicroSD card and found that when the phone went to the SDLoader screen it halted. So,,,, now I have a brick. Other observations: Processor speed is ok but I compared this with the processor speed for a comparable HTC phone and found it lacking. Battery life is abyssmal; the worst I have ever seen. Finally the support system. My phone was purchased in the US through a reseller. I contacted HP for support and they declined stating that no US carriers were selling the phone. I called HP UK support and they declined stating the phone was purchased in the US even though it is of UK origin. So HP support is also a load of crap. Bottom line: I have little good to say about the phone or HP's support structure. Neither of which are worth the time it woudl take to set a fire to it.

  • i was looking for this phone last year, unfortunately it isn't available in my area. so i ended up with SE P1i, and i am very contented with it..

  • currently using 614c in malaysia unlimited data plan, prior using 512,try download SKYFIRE,you be amazed, can watch youtube streaming, etc, anyoone out there tried?have to download youtube from freeware if need to watch and saved but is slow, any comments?

  • to disable xt9 (permanent). download & install this .cab file from your device: (only 20kB)

  • Hi. To reinstall the windows mobile on your ipaq 61x just download the update from the HP webpage. Search for it on the Support & Drivers section. You can choose from many languages. Just be carefully with the SKU ID wich have to match with yours.

  • my smarttouch navigation wheel doesnt working.is there any solition for it?

  • This devce will not receive even a 6.1 upgrade officially (unofficialy it has wm 6.1) but In my opinion - this device sucks it has so much hardware problems that it's not worth buying it at all.

  • Hey ppl, does any one know if HP provides upgrades for windows mobile 6.5

  • Hi KH, i had the similar problem, every time you need to switch off the phone and on it to get signals. but after sometime it worked. hope its fixed now.

  • Recently, my 612c facing a network connection problem again (3rd time)...which is not able to cannot to any network at all. Rest of the function are ok. You have to switch it on & off for times in order to get it recover. If this happen to your unit, pls send to service center immediately and get a replacement (either change PCBA or a new unit)CONDITION..must be still under warranty period.

  • Could you please tell me how stable this device to use the 3rd party software like MS mobile CRM

  • Hi, I had the same problem with that device a year ago. The solution is hard reset and than install needed software. I have used a backup program and now I have no problem. Success.

  • I bought this device on 15th August 2008. And 25. august windows was down. I sent it to service, and today 10th Jan 2009. has same thing happened. And i decided: "when this shit return from service, i will sell it" My experience tells me that this PDA is not worth of coin. thanks

  • one more question, unfortunately i unistalled my bluetooth in this device..where to get set for reinstall??

  • can anyone plz tell me how to reinstall windows in this device?? step by step plz... thanx

  • Well after doing a lots-n-lot of R&D on my new 612c about how to disable XT9 or rather say how to switch between XT9/ABC/123, i could finally find it out... PRESS & HOLD * key (2nd key from left from the bottom row).. So dont really need to install CAB for that..

  • Obviously Marvell PXA270 520 Mhz is better as it has got much better processor speed that is 520 Mhz

  • what is DB

  • please help me i dont know how to connect hp to my phone

  • I Can't get word completion to work on my 612C Bus NAV any idea's that might correct the problem

  • Dear NormaD Upon yours recomendations many times I tryed to disable this Tx9 but no success. What could you recommend me? Thank you very much! I have russian version.

  • HP Connecting Agent is annoying - it will auto start from time to time. But you cannot remove it as you cannot locate it!HP Please help!

  • As message alert tone there are some default tone. But I want to select any mp3 file from memory card or phone memory as my message alert tone. Whats the procedure to do that?

  • In the screen, down, side right to symbol keyboard , has a arrow, press this arrow and open the options.

  • @5eifer : Go to Start > Settings > tab > Input > select from the drop-down menu Input Method > [Options] > in the next screen uncheck all the options available for the XT9 input > OK > OK > OK. Now if you start a new SMS using the Keyboard as input device, the XT9 will be highlighted as being activated in the upper bar, but will have no effect on the text input at all (no word prediciton, no word correction, etc.)

  • try to search for a program named: "HTC+Touch+Dual-default-ABC.CAB" in xda-developer.com or ipmart-forum.com it works perfectly on my 612c.

  • Hi, Just want to ask. Anybody knows how to disable the XT9 function in making SMS messages. I tried to tinker with a few times, to no luck. Thanks in advance!

  • As message alert tone there are some tone which are given my system. But I want to select any mp3 file from memory card as my message alert tone. so how can I do that?

  • 3 days. Lucky you. Mine barely lasts a day with 5 min of talktime, 1 hour working with programs and 1-2 hous musing in standby mode. I updated the rom but no improvement at all. They have fixed the camera issues and it does pretty decent photos now.

  • Ok . I installed the new rm by HP. Can't see any improvement on battery life though:(. Is it possible that the battery hasn't been charged properly in the first time use (12 hours charge after complete drain). If so, how can I fix that. Is it enough to drain the battery and charge it for 12 hours.

  • @bobo, @Asad - This is an official patch form HP so you can just go the www.hp.com and download whatever you need. (hint - in the field on the start page of the site, just type "iPAQ 610c" and you will be redirected successfully) :( - Ever wondered about so many people asking for help with the obvious :(

  • Same question ... can any one give me the link where I can download HP Power Management Patch ?

  • Same question ... can any one give me the link where I can download HP Power Management Patch ?

  • Hi there. I have a problem with the microphone on my ipaq 614. The voice recording is fine but when speaking with somepne, the other side can't hear well (it's to silent).anyone had an issue like that and could it be a hardware problem.

  • Can any one give me the link where I can download HP Power Management Patch ?

  • @Simon Lee - Have you re-flashed your iPAQ with the latest ROM from HP? For me it completely resolved the battery issue. Now the stand-by tyme is approx 3 days where with the original ROM it had been less than 24 hours. Three days for a PDA of this class is more than OK.

  • Agree...the life use for battery is very low...Any battery can be used as subsitute to this lausy battery...other functions are ok...except battery... :((

  • Go Windows Mobile ---> Start--->Settings--->System---->IPAQ Audio---->then choose the level of adjustment u want----> Ok---> Restart the mobile.... Hope can help you.

  • @redline and all concerned by the SDHC-iPAQ614 compatibility issue - please check frequently this topic from the HP Support Forum -

  • @redline - unfortunately you are wrong. This is a list of compatible MicroSD cards, but these are NOT SDHC (high capacity cards). While there are a 4GB (in fact 3.81GB _NON_ SDHC) cards on the market, and almost all of them are compatible with any device, the problems emerge with the Micro SDHC cards. I suppose that you are talking about a real SDHC and not 3.81=4GB card.

  • I posted before on the 4GB card issue and (i think was norman sorry if i got it wrong) said that scandisk is NOT a compatible MicroSD card for the 612c. I went to the HP website and it is listed as compatible see here: anyone has the same problem as I?

  • Been using HP Ipaq 614C for few months. The camera cannot zoom in and out except in video mode. Help.

  • Battery life us very low; not as specified. Even with minimal talk time, the battery does not last 60hrs on standby. Otherwise a handy phone with good features.

  • Can anyone help me how I can increase the volume of the ring tone. The sounds is still low at the highest volume.

  • My comment is related to th HP 612C Business Navigator, the main problem is the word completion feature just does not work. Have spoken to HP they don't seem to have a fix, so if your thinking about buying it, TRY BEFORE YOU BUY

  • Thanks Dave, I set the target "normal" volume to 100db, Mp3gain increase the volume of my ringtone significantly. thanks again

  • @spyros - yes the iPAQ 614c as all other Windows Mobile touch screen devices around has a stylus - check this review @budixbud - There should be no problem with the Skype installation process, but on the condition that you have downloaded the correct version for your device. In case of iPAQ 610/614 this is "Skype 2.2 for Windows Mobile Professional (Pocket PC)" which can be downloaded from this page - . Do NOT try to install the Smartphone version of Skype - iPAQ 614 is NOT a Smartphone, but a PocketPC.

  • Hi. Does anyone know how to install skype aplication on dis device. When I try to do so, there is a message that is not correct aplication for device. regards

  • anyone to tell me if there is a stylus to use with this phone? i am a current user of the hw6915 for nearly 2 years, and i am quite happy. but i wouldn't want to buy somethig without a stylus now... Thanks.

  • I just realised that there is no BT option for sending contacts and other data. Is this correct? Do i need to activate some function?

  • @raymond - I would highly recomment you (and in fact - to anyone using a Windows Mobile device) to register at the and check the vast amount of tips, hints and general data about everything concerning the PocketPCs and Smartphones. In particular there are numerous Chinese software developers and users that post their opinions there so you will be able to find a pretty good number of programs you may need. To start with, the last week a guy from Hong kong released a custom ROM (in Chinese) the seems much faster than the original. Just to a search in the proper sub-forums.

  • what chinese software can i install ? n when can i find it ?

  • Thank you!

  • @lucifer - I think that you are trying to compare the incomparable :) The ARM 11 CPU is used in Symbian devices, while the PXA270 - in Windows Mobile ones. Both CPUs suit very well the demands of the respective operating system and if you try to compare similar tasks - GPS navigation, media playback using TCPMP, popular 3D games you will get, in average, similar test results. At the same time since there is no way to upgrade a Symbian device to a newer OS version, while it is considered 'a piece of cake' to flash a different (customized/'cooked') version of Windows Mobile to a PXA270 device IMO the latter CPU is superior bringing to the user the freedom and flexibility to adjust the core of the PDA system to suit one's needs. Again we are speaking here about complex quality of both OS and CPU as something unseparable. And again - WindowsMobile + xScale CPU seems better FOR AN ADVANCED USER.

  • Here is a link to my post with requiested links in the GSMArena Forum:

  • What's the diference: ARM 11 369 Mhz or Marvell PXA270 520 Mhz? Hoes beter?

  • Nomad - Really a good stuff!!! I'm on the topic for a long time and nobody else could make so good review! Just best, hope not the last! Wish you more reviews in future!

  • Thank NormanD for your tips but can you post the links for the ROM and freeware please

  • excellent input norman! that is a review....

  • The known issues with iPAQ 610/612/614 are not that much and (IMHO) for any of them there is a solution, patch or workaround available. Here is a brief list of my findings: Problem: Battery life is low (less that 1 day) Solution: Install the HP Power Management Patch available from the official HP site Problem: Performance seems not so good for a 512MHz Intel CPU Workaround: Install the custom made ROM by the Russion guy with the nickname . NOTE: Do this on your risk! This worked VERY well for me but I do not take any responciblity for any damage you may cause to your device! Tip: Install the custom ROM only AFTER you have patched your original ROM with the PowerManagement update from HP! Problem: The phone lock/unlock software is very clumsy. Solution: Install the freeware S2U2 (Slide-To-Unlock 2) - a very flexible locker/unlocker+screensaver+clock+alarm clock Problem: The GPS seems very slow. Tip: Install the freeware Quick-GPS that reads sattelite coordinates for the next 168 hours and helps a LOT to avoid the 10-15 minutes ColdStart time for the GPS. Having it constantly updated reduced the starting time for my GPS (I'm using the iGO 8 software) to less that a minute. Problem: The sound level of the incoming rings is very low - I'm missing calls because of that. Explanation: Once the slider of the sound volume is adjusted to the MAX the sound level is (IMO) more than sufficient to be clearyl heard at 10ft in a noisy room. The thing that may prevent the sound to be loud and clear enough is a designers' fault where HP had positioned the loudspeaker on the back of the phone in such a way that if you place the phone face up on a table the loudspeaker is fully blocked and the sound can't pass around. The obvious solution is either to leave the phone face down on a table or to have a belt case with a pin on the back which lifts the phone about 1/4 of an inch above the table and the ringtones a heard wihtout any problem. Problem: I'm missing the joystick of the other PDA-s - I can't play games with the Wheel. Tip: OK - the phone is nicknamed "Business Navigator", not "Gamers' something". The Wheel is great for single-handed operation and useless as a gaming option. Nevertheless there plenty of KEYS here that most of the other PDA-s do not have and these keys can be easily mapped to simulate an 8-directional pad. I'll recommend the usage of AE_Button_Plus. Problem: When I press the OK hardware button or the (OK) soft button on my screen, the current program is only minimized and not closed as in 'normal' Windows. Explanation: This is a feature of WindowsMobile designed so in order to speed up the leading of your mostly used applications... on the VERY slow machines some 5 years back from now. Unfortunately this obsolete software design is still kept by MS (may be for compatibility reasons). Solution: The good news is that there are numerous 3rd party task managers capable of switching the OK button to do what is expected. I would recommend the freeware MagicButton Problem: The built-in MS InternetExplorer lacks many features present in most modern browsers. Solution: Go for Opera Mobile 9.xx - no doubt at this moment this is the best browser for WinMobile PDAs Problem: The built-in File Explorer lacks many features... Solution: There is a number of 3rd party software solutions adding powerful FileManagers to your system. I would recommend Resco File Explorer 2005 or newer - a package that not only adds a File Explorer, but also a Registry Editor, FTP client and encription module. Problem: The built-in Windows Media Player is limited to WMV, WMA and MP3 files. How to play AVI, MPG, OGG, FLV, etc.? Solution: Just install the freeware TCPMP (short for The Core Pocket Media Player). The package contains codecs for playback of almost all currently used multimedia containers and streaming video, plus visualisztion of lyrics for MP3 and subtitles (in SMI format) for your movies. Plus - there had been added a plug-in to watch the 'true' youtube.com videos and not the ones from the mobile version of this popular site. Problem: My wired handsfree got broken and and replacement from HP is just too expensive. Tip: Yes, I agree the HP handsfree is well overpriced. So overpriced that for the same money you can buy a good BT Stereo headset from Plantronics, Jabra or Siemens and use the VERY good A2DP Bluetooth profile of your iPAQ. Problem: My 4/8/16GB SDHC memory card does not hold properly my data and software. Tip: Not all brands of SDHC cards are certified by HP and for a reason. Simply avoid uncertified brands like Kingston and stick to well known and certified ones like A-Data and you will have not troubles with that.

  • can anyone tell me what are the issues that is faced by this phone

  • need to install Gps software first. ex, garmin, mapking, tomtom etc

  • any one knows how do you activate the GPS? hp ipaq 612c thnx

  • Hi NormandD Thanks for the tips, I got a Scandisk (now I know why the HP612c was NOT listed in the ref files when I bought it at Comex). Trancend is diff to get here and A-Data is not heard off. One thing I must say for the 612C is that it is a PAIN to remove the data card

  • Hey all Just purchased my Ipaq 614c, I live in the USA, my Mobile Phone carrier is T-Mobile. Im having problems logging on to the Internet through T-mobile and how do you activate the GPS? any help would be appriciated.

  • @redline 1&2 Two possible reasons for the misbehavior of your 8GB SDHC card come to mind: First - your card is of a brand that is not approved by HP and is really incompatible with the hardware of 612c. One such brand is Kingston, some negative reports about SunDisk had been received too. Stick to Transcend and A-Data to avoid any trouble. The other possible reason may be that your card had been formatted in NOKIA smartphone or a card-reader that does not support the true FAT32 data structure that is required by the HP firmware. The solution here is obvious - install any proven SD-card formatting utility on your iPAQ and try to format the faulty card. I would suggest Resco File Explorer or SKTools. As for the backup utility - such utility is not included natively in the HP devices since WM5. At the same time there is no problem to install and use some 3rd party software, which will be a far more flexible and reliable solution. I can suggest here SPB Backup and again SKTools as some very good backup solutions.

  • yup.. there have

  • Thanks a lot! To be honest, I was expecting it to have one but I wanted to make sure as I wasn't able to try one. Again, thanks a lot!

  • A couple of things with my new phone: I went with a 4GB Micro SD instead of 8GB, but my phone does this strange things: 1 it dose not recognise that there is a card intalled. 2 when it does recognise that there is a card install, it shows that the capacity is FULL - maxed out!! Also my WinMobile2003 has a ipaq backup programme, but i can find it on the 612c. Anyone knows?

  • reply to myself, just make it work now. I use rogers, skype won't find the data network connection, only can use WiFi. After I created a modem entry, name it RogerInternet (what so ever), and add neccesary info in this entry, also make it the default network connection for the "Internet", then it connect to the "rogersInternt" now and work perfectly With 6GB data plan ($30 per month), now I am on Skype all the time, won't worry the phone bill. (My Skype have a Dial-in number) hope this can help someone!!!

  • As all other WindowsMobile based PocketPC/Smartphones the iPAQ 610 has an onscreen QWERTY keyboard. What is more - there are numerous 3rd party applications that offer even more sofisticated onscreen keyboards like VGAKey, Resco Keyboard, SBP Fullscreem Keyboard, etc. etc. and some of them are even freeware!

  • Hi Guys, Anyone knows if this phone has a virtual QWERTY in addition to the numeric keyboard? I would find it useful for emails&messages writing. Thanks!

  • Hi, does anyone know if it's possible to use Blackberry Connect with this phone? Thanks

  • Two weeks before I bought HP IPAQ 910c. First week I suffered alot. But today I solved alot of things. Four items are important for me. My address book covers several different books. No problem. Fourth item is telefon call operation. I can dial the phone with one hand easily. ı can advise HP 910c to all businessman. no compatible one exists in the market today. This is my opinion.

  • Thanks mate. I'll definitely give it a bash again. Thanks for being so kind & helpful here.

  • Well thanks MD.

  • @spencer: I believe that both times you have dowloaded a .CAB file but was not able to recongnize it due to two simple reasons - in your computer the .CAB files are associated with the WinRAR software (which is OK) and also when you open your File Manager, in the Tools > Folder Options menu > View tab the checkbox for the []hide extensions for known file types is checked. Please UNcheck it and then again have a look at the file you have extracted from the .ZIP archive you have downloaded from the developer's site - it's FULL name will be SpoonAlarm.CAB and not SpoonAlarm.RAR. At this point simply copy the .CAB found to your PDA's storage memory or SD-card and continue with the installation as per developer's instructions.

  • I have tried a 8GB MicroSD and it works fine.

  • Please go to: Download and instal cabviaactivesync then just right click the files and select cabviactivesync. Is just as sipmle as that!

  • Hi I just ordered the 612c. I would like to know what is the biggest memory card I can use with the 612c. I understant that 4GB is not a problem, anyone tried with 8 or 16GB? assistance most appreciated, as I will be buying my micro SD card this thurs.

  • thanks NormanD. I've just downloaded spoonalarm from the website you mentioned. I then got a winzipped file, after unzipping, I found a winrar file inside. So , Iopened it using WinRAR, then I have in front of me a list of the following files: _setup.xml 3KB XML Document INTERO~1.003 284KB 003 file MICROS~3.001 23KB 001 file mscorlib.002 206KB 002 file SPOONA~1.000 1KB 000 file SPOONA~1.005 291KB 005 file SPOONA~1.006 15KB 006 file SPOONA~1.007 58KB 007 file SPOONS~1.004 1KB 004 file My question is where is the .cab, is it is in one of these files ? There don't seem to be any files with .cab extension !? Thanks

  • Hey DUKE, Got the same problem! Not sure if that relates to the provider or the phone itself which is a CRAP!! Anyone succeed configuring this manually??

  • Just recently bought this and really DISAPOINTED! Sending SMS is pain in the A$$ while receiving it's not an issue. Until now no clue how to manually modify its SMS Service Center No as automatic configurations (for Telkomsel HALO) just don't work for SMS & MMS -- no drama for GPRS/EDGE. One more thing, The Pointsec installation's gonna criple down your external mini SD. Really piece of crap!

  • @spencer: Since I'm not sure where you've downloaded SpoonAlarm from, I suggest that you visit the author's site - www.spoontools.com - and try a download of the latest version from there. The archive to download is in ZIP format and inside it is the CAB file you have alredy mentioned, which worked perfectly well for me. :)

  • thank you very much for your response. unfortunally my area (uruguay, south america)is not available. please inform me if you find any other software using worldwide maps sucha as goggle earth. thanks, seba

  • Have anyone success connect 3G data for SkyPE? SkyPE work fine with Wifi. Also fring and IM+ can't use 3G data Please help!!!

  • NormanD. Thank you for the reply. But I have checked the files I downloaded. Yes I'm using WinRAR on my PC and I have check the extension of the file I have downloaded - they weren't .CAB nor .RAR. Rather, they appear exactly as those file names I copied and pasted here. i.e. without any file extensions except the _setup.xml

  • @spencer: From what I see as listed from the contents of the file you have downloaded is IS already the SpoonAlarm.CAB that you are looking at. Yes - if you are using WinRAR on your PC, it LISTS .CAB files as .RAR ones, and one can open and look at what is inside, but they are still CAB files. So, please check the extension of the file you have downloaded - it should be .CAB and not .RAR. (Tip: If you have not it tuned on, then go to your Windows File Manager > Tools > Folder Options > View tab and there UNcheck the 'Hide extensions for known file types' checkbox. It is quite useful to be able to look at the extensions at times.)

  • i longed for this phone but i ended up w/ my SE P1i. and i am enjoying it...

  • Thanks NormanD for your advice. I've download SpoonAlarm v2.0 (295 KB) and also found a simple installation instructions in one website. However, I don't see any cab files inside the folder after unzipping it. This is what inside: INTERO~1.003 MICROS~3.001 mscorlib.002 SPOONA~1.000 SPOONA~1.005 SPOONA~1.006 SPOONA~1.007 SPOONS~1.004 _setup.xml Would you be so kind to give me some more hint on how to install the files into my device. What is needed to run the cab file? Is the cab file embedded inside just one of the above files ? What is required to run the cab file ? Thank you very much ! Installation: - Copy the SpoonAlarm.CAB file to your windows mobile device. - Run the CAB file. - Accept the installation questions and warnings... Activation: - Open the Programs window from the start menu. - Select: SpoonAlarm. - The SpoonAlarm will be activated.

  • @Byryn: Unfortunaely it is the headpiece that causes the trouble most of the time. There is some problem with the wiring and the insulation on the upper side of the 11-pin USB connector the iPAQ 6xx utilizes. I bought mine 614c with the earpiece already recalled with good $90 discount :) (...and already bought for the same price a BT stereo headset)

  • I have recently got the 612c. Great stuff in all. However, I have all of a sudden lost all audio out on the ear peice (headset and speaker still work). Working with HP to resolve but i dont think it is hardware related, as it happened without any bumps or even usage. One phone call it worked and the next it didn't... Will update the ROM tonight but any assistance would be great. Ta :)

  • @Mikey: Let's compare the dimensions of the 614c - 117 x 60.3 x 17.5 mm and of k700i - 99 x 46 x 19 mm. Yes, the iPAQ is longer and wider by 15-16mm, but it is not bulky at all and fits very well in ones hand or pocket. What is more - the wider size makes enough room for a wider keyboard which is very comfortable during single-handed operations (plus the option to tap on the screen with your thumb). @spencer: Yes, you are right that the alarms are too quiet and one can't select an MP3 file for the alarm sound using the in-built iPAQ menus. However there is a FREE program - SpoonAlarm v2.0 (Google! it - this one is easy to find) that corrects both issues.

  • Ain't this device too huge for day to day use? I'm currently using my old SE K700i, and I know that if I go for such feature-rich device like this it's gotta be bigger, but is it still comfortable to use, e.g one-handed typing while walking on the street, or driving by bus.

  • The problem with this phone is the built-in alarm ringtones are all to quiet and low pitched. This is the case even if they are set to the highest volume. p.s you can't set your own music(mp3) as an alarm to wake you up in the morning. Correct me if I'm wrong.

  • try we-travel.co.cc

  • @Alexander: Please read the previous user replies - it had been clearly said several times that A-GPS is only an useful OPTION and ADDITION to the usual GPS funcionality. So most of the times one will use GPS with its 'normal' function, but if there are A-GPS servers available in the area you CAN (but this is NOT mandatory!) connect to such a server via GRPS and use some extra guidance. @TJ: While the in-built WMPlayer cannot handle youtube streaming, there is no problem to install the FREE 3rd party player TCPMP (short for The Core Pocket Media Player) of version 0.71RC1 and add to it a streaming video plug-in (Hint: search with Google for the file TCPMP_and_Video_Bundle.rar). @Anonimous: Currently there are no known virii that can infest and harm a WindowsMobile system. @Pavle: There is already available an accessory called MiniUSB-Y-Cable, available for the QTEK phones, which is plugged in the iPAQ 610c miniUSB port and from it stretch two short cables - one with another miniUSB(F) connector and another - with a 3.5mm stereo phone jack. Search eBay for it - it is quite common - simply search for QTEK accessory - NOT for iPAQ. @Catalin: Yes there is no problem to replace your polish ROM with an English one. The simpliest way around is to visit the forum on the site 4pda.ru and do a search for the words '614c' and 'ROM'. The site and forum are in Russian, but there is no need to know the language - the links for download are obvious. There is an even better news - a Russian Engineer had made a 'cooked' ROM, from which had been removed all the HP junk programs as 'Live Update', etc. A better Bluetooth driver had been added, and the low sound level problem had been partially solved via a registry hack. The XT9 word completion probles had been resolved too. So the installation of this custom-made ROM is highly recommended.

  • 614 does not have FM radio :(

  • you can use the gps without gprs, is free. The only problem is the battery. But is a nice phone

  • I have two questions to 610c users: 1: Is it only A-gps or it can track satellites without gsm network 2: How does that unusual d-pad work - is it compatable with most of the 3-rd party apps (especially games:))

  • How can you play youtube on the hp ipaq 610c?? youtube for mobile doesnt work becuz it plays vids out of windows media player!! it says that its complatible for almost all video formats!! Can anyone help??

  • What a great phone, it would be more if there is 5 mp camera n fm radio. It should be a complete phone, so as hp 910c

  • Is this hp prone to virus?

  • Thaks a lot for useful comment!

  • agree, if you don't know how to do a reg edit, then this phone is not for you.

  • great product. really advance and highly configurable. not for a novice though. hardware is just great. most of the problems are caused by the operating system ie. wm6. the default configuration sucks big time. you need at least 2 days to customize the setting and learn how to use this device efficiently. but once you know what fit you best, you can redo the configuration in just 20 minuts. once the customization is done, this phone rocks like hell. this product comes with 4points ipaqchoice. you may spend these point at www.ipawchoice.com. i suggest you choose "ilauncher". i didn't find other software usefull. there are many free software available. my favorites are, s2u2, s2p, total commander, wengophone, turbogps, wm5torage, hbutton, sptimesync, tehwol, pocketcm keyboard, pocket digital clock (pdc). with s2p this phone even acts like an ipod. ohh, did i mention that i rarely need stylus to oprate this phone? there are a few minor things i don't like about this phone. the key pad is too flat. in darkness you can't feel which key you are pressing. the 3-Way Thumb-Wheel cannot be pressed easily with your thumb, which make it useless most of the time. and there are a few more design problem i really don't care about. i've read that some of you complain about the battery. in my opinion, i really don't think other pda phones can do better than this one. what about the size? i would say it fit me well. i don't want a phone to be too slim. what i care most about is the ergonomy, that it fit your hand nicely and let you operate quickly and efficiently. ohh, i almost forgot. a seperate 3.5/2.5mm audio jack would be nice to have, so that you can listen to music quietly while charging up.

  • My bigest problem is battery life, i am waiting for this phone and i have been using rw 6815, it is slightly heavy tho the screen easily gets scratched , i wana know if this 164 has better batt life before i lay my hands on mine..

  • How to listen the music if your battery is empty? You got to disconect your headphones to plug in charger? I am using Hp 6815 and there is headphone jack and mini usb for charging, so no problem there.

  • With regards to the sound quality, you may want to try out this solution:

  • I like this PDA considering its features. However, several friends of mine, who have a previous experiences with ipaq that ipaq is not as good as they appear to be..is that true? Could somebody confirm on that "rumours" so to speak?

  • You could download another localized ROM that includes English from HPs site and then flash it to your phone.

  • cant play youtube on this phone. can anyone help me please.

  • I am having difficult selecting my personal cell phone with PDA. N95 8GB and HP iPAQ 612C, which one is better performance and features?

  • I finally find a gps free software that works with my ipaq 612. It is Google Navigator free version. It comes with some functions restricted such as get direction and gps navigation, creat path and navigation and save track line. In order to get the full version you have to pay USD 60. You need to have a data conection in order to downnlow maps. If anyone knows of any gps software with maps included (no necessary a data conection) and with more gps navigation features please tell. Finally I am totally disapointed with battery life, my device only lasts 3 hours! Everyone is having this super big problem?

  • The sound level is quite low, can't be used as wake up alarm. The screen is almost unreadable under heavy sunlight

  • I did buy yesterday this phone and I was fully disapointed and I realised that the windows mobile version is in Polish (buying in poland) and has no english version. Is there any poisibility to upgrade the polish version with english version?

  • I use iPAQ 612c is good feature but is hanheld as modem and we connect via blootooh can not conect to internet

  • Using the phone is as simple as I've expected. For people with Google Maps questions - try IGO MyWay which works for sure on my device IPAQ 614c. If there is no map for your countries (map is *.fbl file format), than you can try any similar software with no need of downloading maps realtime (Garmin, Route66, TomTom etc). And please read a bit about GPS. Also I can confirm that the device is working more than 3 months with 8GB Micro SDHC Card produced by ADATA and with price - 38$. Yes the device is not so loud but you can use vibrate and ring mode for incoming calls. Wi-Fi is perfect for me and I use it all the time, on every Wi-Fi spot, else I use 3G/GPRS with no problems till now. I have problems only with camera, sometime i have capture the pictures with wrong geometry of the objects but I've asked HP services and they sad that next ROM update (MP 1.03) might fix this issue.

  • My Ipaq 612c connected easily to the internet via my celfone in the Philippines the first time I used it. Without changing the connection settings, it can not connect to the internet again using my celfone. I tried to reset to factory setting and/or edit the connection settings but still unable to connect to the internet except when I connected through WiFi. Any help please. Another problem is that with Mobile Windows Word, Excel and Note, the ENTER KEY of the keypad closes the program automatically (similar with the "OK" key function)instead of adding a new line or ending a paragraph. The ENTER KEY of the keypad works well only in TEXT MESSAGE editing. Is there any patch that can correct this? Thanks.

  • One of the consideration for getting the 612c was to use the keypad and t9, but i ended up using back the Keyboard half the time. Still can't really get used to the Keypad. Called the HP helpline, but it seems the lady on the other end can't really understand my problem.

  • I'm having the word completion problem too. It's not working on my HP 612c and I'm surprised that nobody seems to be bothered by this issue? :( Maybe everyone is using XT9 and I'm the only freak who uses word completion...

  • Hi, anyone has problem with the "word completion" feature, using the Keyboard/Letter Recognizer"? I can't get it to work. It only work when i input, using the keypad using the xt9. Also, when i connect my bluetooth hands-free device, there is no indicating on of it being connected, on the Today screen. I onlt see the icon if i go to the phone function screen. Is this the limitation of this phone?

  • I'd have to disagree with wi-fi comment. I just picked up my 612c the other day and wi-fi works like a charm.. I can connect to unsecure network or protected by WEP or WPA without any problems.. My only issue with the device is that it should have the screen flush and not sunken.. other then that it's pretty good..

  • It's takes a geek to hook this thing up with a password-protected Wifi network, and then, it might not go through... making it only possible to use with open wifi networks (from the point of view of a layman), With its so-limited software package, I feel like cheated out of my money to buy this expensive piece of metal !

  • No new hardware needed, just GPS maps program

  • @ Zul, You need to purchase mapkings that works with the gps receiver which has already been in-built with the handset. You do not need additional hardware, only needed to install mapkings application/map/voice, etc, and voila you are on track.

  • Hai, good day. I have bought HP ipqq 612c. Its a great PDA so far, cause almost everithing is in there. But u mention mapking, where could i get this software. Is it require any other hardware to operate the GPS. Please advice me

  • use mp3gain to increase their volume

  • those who are using this phone.. somebody said it has a very low speaker.. short life of battery.. is that true??? and my another question is can i full access and use of all the features of this phone without using the pen stylus????

  • Yes I agree!! Ringing volume for mp3 is too soft! Missed a few calls too.

  • Phones don't come with vista or xp. They run on Windows mobile. The 610 comes with WM 6 Professional.

  • I think that is a great phone, the only think that i want t ask is does it have vista on it or xp?

  • offcie mobile consist of excel word and powerpoint. but only word and excel can be edited. powerpoint only for viewing

  • i just got my ipaq 612c, it work great. i purchase a spb mobile shell to replace the unattractive wm6.0 skin. i love my device now!!! just a note, anyone know how to tweak the device volume, the sound are too soft... i missed a few call :(

  • 614C works perfectly with 8gb microSDHC card.

  • Zoom in camera works... but not in 3M photo size mode. Works in lower resolution of saved pictures - if lower than zoom scale greater. try it!

  • Does anybody have link to free maps for Austria (need before EURO 08)

  • I have HP IPAQ 614C It is worknig excellent.. bigest opsticle was to instal all needed for using..spent few days to do so. Good sides: e-mal speed : excellent Internet : excellent connection and speed Bad sides: as phone device is not the best solution, it is more softweare organized as Pc computer then mobile phone. Also e-mails could not be forwardde only replayed..etc. Speakers are not so loud so it could not wake you up in the mourning :)

  • Hi, now Malaysia only selling the phone, i just have a view on the demo, after reading a few opinion posted, is it worth of getting this phone? Now KL is selling RM1999. Thank you

  • I'm posting from this phone. Currently have a 4GB microSD card installed and its working fine. I was told 4GB is the largest supported.

  • Hello, I'm planning to buy this device before can anyone who holds this phone help me to know, what is the maximum MicroSD capacity supported? Is it possible to modify the Microsoft pocket Office document on phone? Warm Regards.

  • Hi guys, Can anyone tell me where can i buy the iPAQ 614c Business navigator with GCC maps installed in UAE.

  • Hi guys, I wanted to get the HP iPAQ 614c but I have few questions about HP iPAQ 614c before. Especially for those who already have this device. Im just wondering, what is the maximum MicroSD capacity that it could be supported by this device. Also I have a question about the A-GPS. Is it stable and could it work with out a GSM or 3G connections.

  • Google Maps do two different things. It download the maps, and it can locate your device. To download the maps the ONLY way is thru any "internet connection" there is no such thing like connecting to the satellites to download the maps... To locate your device, it can be in either GPS mode or GSM mode. If it goes thru the GSM, it will locate you device thru your phone signal, so it won't be "exact". If it goes thru the GPS mode it would need the open skies to connect with the satellites and get the coordinates and locate your device location on the map. Let me know if it helps...

  • in the text messaging format for writing SMS, are there any option for T9 in Indonesian or Malay language?

  • After 1 week with this phone, here are some gripes... 1. Wifi seems a little cranky at times. There are a few times when I tried to turn on wifi from the wireless manager, the option just disappears and there is no way I can turn on wifi unless I reset my phone. 2. The zoom function does not work in camera mode. By right, pressing 4 and 6 should zoom out/in the camera, but this does not work. However, the buttons work in the video cam mode, so I am guessing it is a camera software bug. 3. Windows has hanged 3 times so far the past week. Twice, it just stopped responding to all my taps and inputs. Another time, it just refused to be turn on from standby mode. Had to reset to get it back on. Other than those I described above, no other complaints I have for this phone, other than its weight. In fact, I am enjoying having it, and can probably live with some minor imperfections.

  • Hi Zachs, Thanks for your reply. Still in open clear sky, goggle maps automaticaly tries to connect to gprs, 3g or wifi. After a while this message appears:"...this program requires a conexion..." At least I want the coordinates, but I can not gey any information. I will try Mapking software, I hope to have luck. ANy new advance please contact me.

  • Hey buddy, I am almost fixed to buy the hp IPAQ 6965. I have few query with this one. 1. my usage would be to sync this device with my Outlook mails and read it on travel. Basically activesyncing my mails and appointments. Has anyone tried this and further, does this have an impact on the Processin speed of the device. 2. Sorry to take a lot of time of yours..Please answer thwese queries for me. Else, do you have any other device which has better processing speed? Plz suggest.

  • Hi seba, i have this phone as well and tried to use GPS function on Google Maps. Google Maps takes a while (too long a while actually) to track your location and locate the GPS. You do not require any other form of connection (wifi, GPRS, GSM, or whatever) to connect to GPS. It is a direct radio link to the GPS satellites up in the sky. Oh, and you will need to be in the open, with line of sight to the sky. Does not work well indoors, and sure as hell does not work underground. You may also want to check that your GPS port is set correctly, to COM8 or COM6. Hardware port should be COM8, while software to COM6. Instead of using Google Maps, why not use MapKing? Its a great routing software and great for driving (with voice nav direction). It came bundled with my ipaq 612c in singapore.

  • Vijay, HP sells all their hardware products through HP resellers. So catch hold of a HP reseller in Bangalore. I am in Pune and am also looking for someone who can sell this phone to me. This one has everything that one can expect from a modern PDA/phone. I have seen an older model of HP PDA phone working and its amazing. Cheers

  • guys, since you got this device already, could you let me know the following, battery life in case we use only the pda as a normal phone ? with almost none time spent on playing around with the pda programs ? thks. I am trying to decide betweeen 910c and 610c. I looking for a decent battery life..

  • Yesterday I bought this phone in Indonesia (ioaq 612) and I am disappointed. I read in this forum that this mobile has integrated GPS, that means you can connect to satellites even if you are offline. My phone comes with Google Maps and it is usefull without a GPRS o Wifi connection. Is there any software that allows this phone to connect the GPS without a GPRS or Wifi?????. Even with a Wifi connection, Google Maps can not find any satellite! Please anyone who can give me some help I will be glad. Thanks

  • Hey all, I have been reading gsmarena since a week :-) to hunt my PDA. Well, I am in a big chaos choosing one. I had shortlisted, asus P520, Asus P750, Sony P1i, HTC - 3300, HTC-4350 and yess..... this sweet one. This device looks a pocket size powerhouse while looking at the processing speed. One thing which is haunting me is, i am not able to find a outlet to try this device in India. (Bangalore). Does any one in India own this device?? If yes, please let me knlow here do we get this from? ALso, it would be great if you could suggest me which one do I opt for??(otherwise)

  • Hi friends.. cant this thing open web page containing Java Applet? I'm considering to buy this one.

  • this is awesome!

  • Thanks Zack, i'll grab one of these too. Thanks for the info.. =)

  • i have the 614c for one month now and the power button it's not stepped easily.

  • I've found some images in a blog made with HP iPAQ 614c I think iPAQ 614c test pictures

  • Finally got my hands on this phone after a almost 7 months wait (!!!). Yes, I am surprised I actually waited so long. No problems so far with any connectivity. Phone works perfectly, wifi took a while to set up and detect, but ultimately, it could detect and connect to my home network. Connecting to the free public wifi was a little unstable, but that's probably due to the network. Bluetooth was ok too. No problems whatsoever. My phone came with bundled MapKing software and installation was a breeze and it took no time at all to get a GPS fix and I was on my way! I must say I am very impressed with the very little time it took to get a GPS fix. I've heard of phones requiring up to 1 minute to get a fix, but this got a fix in a snap (like 15 secs!). Comes with MS powerpoint, word and excel so working on these documents was easy. Also has PDF reader to read PDF files. OS was very stable and quite quick, even with many apps running. Overall, very satisfied with the phone. Oh, one thing.... do disable the scroll wheel though. Useless...

  • to kamkask glad to hear you have sorted out the problems with the device. hopefully u will now enjoy its full potential. :)

  • To Merc: thanks, I have sorted out in the meantime. I got working googlemail after reading all possible internet forums. The real trouble was the SMTP server setting as the free wifi provider didnt have any for free users and Orange doesnt support sending email without it, which seems to be a problem with Orange in all countries.

  • Sometimes having problems with communication between navigation software & GPS, hardware port on GPS is set on 6 and software port on 8. Anyone had this problem?

  • to kamkask i am now writing from the fone connected to a wifi. i have no problems with the signal. i use only wifi not 3g. if u contimue to have problems try to make a hard reset

  • hi all, I travel extensively throughout Asia, Africa, Europe and the US so this phone appeals to me with all of the bands and options. I want to be able to use skype with video but this phone does not have a second (video conferencing) camera on the front. I would like to know from any of those that actually use this phone if you can use skype (or 3g video call) and use the main camera on the back to send the image and still see the incoming image on the screen. What I have in mind is to face the mirror in the hotel room, so that my kids can see me via mirror while I see them on the screen as I talk to them. Is this possible with this phone? many thanks.

  • Hi everyone does HP IPaq610 c supports blackberry software? In which countries the device is available today? Thanks for your kind feedback Wissam

  • Hi, I see there a lot of talk about the integrated gps, finnaly my question is: is it possible to select the gsp mode? I mean to select normal GPS mode (dont use any assisted servers via GPRS, 3G), use if available, and so on. Also I understand there is no stereo jack on it, I'd like to connect to the car audio system, how is that possible? Is there some car accesory for it?

  • Have anybody compare it with ASUS P750, which one is more worth it?

  • Hi Merc, I have trouble with wifi. I have set up my e-mail accounts, they work both direction while using 3G simcard, but without simcard using wifi I can only receive email. Havent worked out what setting to change. Thanks

  • i can say that this phone rocks. its far better than the HTCs that are more expensive and have worse specs. moreover the problem with the video driver is still not fixed ...

  • I don't have any problem at all...I paid 600$ for that ...it deserve more than I expected ...anyone want to ask any questions .let me know...anyway...for GPS- , I use Franson GPS gate...B4 you open GPS software, you have to open /stay on right tray icon(color has to be green)GPS gate...you will see ble sky ..good luck...

  • So idiot support in Russia. In morning they said that 614 will be in stock before the end of April, and now they say that it will be in the second part of May... Can anyone tell me, is this device cost 7 months of waiting? I am in 1 step to buy Asus P750... :'(

  • Anyone had problems with GPS ( finding satelite ) also have trouble finding GSM network

  • Has anyone successfully installed Skype or Yahoo messenger? Is it possible to watch TV via internet on it? I havent managed yet. To: Kerim I personally use it with a 3G simcard mainly for mobile internet connection (of course unlimited data plan an no roaming) Internet is a must for using GPS,unless you download maps.

  • It has 3g system but it hasn't got second camera. So what does this 3g used for??? I want to buy this phone and im colleting opinions. So does any one say that it has any disadvantages or unhappenesses about 614c???

  • Hi Tieh, Alarm does not work when handset is switched off. Its more to do with WM platform. My experience with camera is good. But this is in comparison with other WM phones. If u want good camera then you have to opt for SE or Nokia handsets. But then you miss so many other things

  • Hi Sammy, Care to elaborate why you say the camera sucks? Btw, this phone has photo-calling function? Btw does the alarm still activate when you switch the phone off? Thanks

  • camera is really bad ...anyone know where do I get camera application for ipaq 614c?

  • To Russia Ipaq 614 should come at the end of April (last info) :-)

  • @Nxsf: The HP iPAQ 600 Series Business Navigator is released under several model numbers with the same specifications. 610 is the model number in the U.S. 612 is the model number in Asia, and 614 is the model number in Europe. The "c" denotes the presence or the absence of a 3.14 Mega Pixel camera. Examples: 610: iPAQ Business Navigator without a camera and released in the U.S. market. 614c: iPAQ Business Navigator with a camera and released in Europe. There is ONLY ONE model of the iPAQ 600 Series Business Navigator, and that model DOES NOT have an FM radio. The same device is just being released under different model numbers that's all Finally, the phone hasn't been released in the U.S. until now because in June 2007, the U.S. International Trade Commission blocked the import of new cell phone models based on particular Qualcomm microchips. They found that these Qualcomm microchips infringe patents owned by Broadcom. Broadcom has also initiated patent litigation in U.S. courts over this issue. This device has two microchips manufactured by Qualcomm, the DSP chip that handles phone calls, and the GPS chip. For the full specifications of the device, check the following URL:

  • hp wants to sell this phone or not?how many era does it take to release a phone?

  • PLEASE someone confirm if 614c has fm radio??

  • Very good PDA, I like it :) BUT I dont like xt9 and Voice Commander. for those who needs to disable xT9: I have installed it and now ABC input is set by default Hope it helps This was posted by a member on the other forum:

  • to use A2DP bluetooth headphones I have instaled zoA2DP. It's working wery nice.

  • There's another model out 614 with camera and fm radio

  • The reason why the phone hasn't been released in the States: "In June 2007, the U.S. International Trade Commission blocked the import of new cell phone models based on particular Qualcomm microchips. They found that these Qualcomm microchips infringe patents owned by Broadcom. Broadcom has also initiated patent litigation in U.S. courts over this issue." The iPAQ 610/612/614c (same phone, different tags for different continents) utilizes 2 Qualcomm chips; DSP chip for managing phone calls, and the GPS chip.

  • Btw guys, it would be expedient if you could read the comments posted here: I think there is a serious problem with the connectivity thingy here. I will wait for HP to sort this out first. Or maybe even wait for the 800 series as mentioned by one of them. Cheers

  • looks like there are some confusion going on here. Website and what they said are confusing. Btw, i will assess the price that it is coming out at. Would expect it to be priced at at least S$600 and above w/o contract. The lack of video telephony appears to be a big minus

  • Its an amazing mobile with goodlooking. All features are attractive but i think should be radio.

  • I also jsut called up HP S'pore to confirm and they say it will be launch end of this month. They say that the website information is wrong, althought the guy on the phone has to confirm it with someone else. So who's correct? Cos if it's not coming out, i don't want to wait for it anymore.

  • it is not going to be launched in singapore? i emailed hp's customer service sometime last week and they mentioned that it will be released this month... ???

  • after much waiting, this product will not be launched in S'pore. yes, there is no FM radio for this.

  • No Fm radio......Weep!!!!!

  • does this have a radio? fm or whatever. I didn't see this feature in the specs

  • I love most aspects apart from the VERY poor battery life, why is the stylus on the left hand side of the phone... Also I seem to miss calls when answered.... why does the screen become active on events like receiving a text or Car kit bluetooth... why are the phone number entry in address book not default numeric... The most important thing is the battery life... very bad !

  • Hi, i was supposed to put up a review but did not get time. But just to answer some queries 1. Camera is best among all the WM devices that i have used. Cannot compare with the high quality ones of SE and Nokia. But i can easily live with these images 2. Wifi is good and no issues with connection. I travel a lot and hence need to connect to different networks and its works good for me 3.sound is good but the quality is not great 4. GPS seems to work better than other agps devices like nokia n95 . But i cannot get a connection if the sky is cloudy. 5. Getting used to the scroll wheel on the key pad takes time 6. xt9 is something that i have to work on 7. Speed is amazing for any WM devices. But multi tasking is very good... even better than most of the symbian based devices. 8. Screen quality is good and the touch screen is much more responsive 9. Thanks to Hp applications. it makes life a lot easier 10. Sync with my mac is working like a dream using missing sync 11. One thing i dint like was the size. its not a beauty but definetly a feature packed beast 12. to increse the batter life u have to cut down the screen brightness to a minimum I have an average battery life of one day and i am happy with my kind of use

  • Vic: haha... thanks for all the links man After so much of the reviews, at last i think i will need to re-consider this device again... It just only my thought of havin a perfect compact device... However, again thanks all for the reviews... Keep believing...

  • Hi guys Check here: By the way I have put so many ref re 614c review and nobody told me simple thanks

  • hi Alex According to you have either installed too many programes on it or it had some other technical problems because my phone is perfectly ok and i cant say you have to restart it 5 times per day but i restart it at least once a day. it si good to restart it though. thisway the phone kind of gets faster. having to restart a decise is nornal if you are using any of the microsoft software. i cant say it is buggy. moreover it is produced by a massive company - hp. PDAs are not supposed to be easy to use either. even though it takes a little time to get use to it it is still harder to use than a nokia 1100. the onscreen keyboard is the same as on every other Windows Mobile device and it can be replaced with a word transcriber if you are lazy to tap on the screen. it really takes q week to take the best out of it but i cant say there are any issues with it. the smart wheel itself is nothing but a plastic circle on the keyboard. The sensors under it do the job. it is not supposed to be soft but sensitive and i think it does its job. i cant help you about the LEAP thing because i still cant get it. as from the explanation i see its something like wifi. i can say the wifi is superb and the speed is perfect. it finds the best network. it is really handy to have wifi everywhere you go :)

  • Guys Check one more review here: To lorenz: As I know the difference between say 614 and 614c - "c" means with camera. Same for other modelas (610/610c etc)

  • Hi, I have had the phone for 4-5 days now, and its great!! make sure you get a good screen protector and a case. PDAir do the only cases, im sur eothers will catch up. Regarding the issues people have faced, 1. the sound of ringtones is great, but lowers considerably when th ephone is fluck on the table, getting the case from pdair solves this straight away!! 2. GPRS, 3G connection issue, the phone has no such issue so far. Yes when moving from 3G to non 3G areas and vice versa, the phone does take 5-10 secs to swicth over, but i havent needed a soft reset or any of that. 3. The click wheel is brilliant and like all new things, needs a bit getting used to. I cant figure out how people can slag it after using the phone for a week!! Its not supposed to be like the IPOD click wheel!! 4. The camera takes pics, but is not as responsive or good as the SE K800 and 79-0 ones. I guess a firmware upgrade might make things better!! 5. Over all the phone is quick, and responsive!! and it was worth the money i bought it for -50 cash back.

  • Hi Merc, below is what I found on LEAP. thanks in advance. The Lightweight Extensible Authentication Protocol (LEAP) is a proprietary EAP method developed by Cisco Systems prior to the IEEE ratification of the 802.11i security standard.[1] Cisco distributed the protocol through the CCX (Cisco Certified Extensions) as part of getting 802.1x and dynamic WEP adoption into the industry in the absence of a standard. There is no native support for LEAP in any Windows operating system, but it is widely supported by third party client software most commonly included with WLAN (wireless LAN) devices. Due to the wide adoption of LEAP in the networking industry, many other WLAN vendors claim support for LEAP.

  • Has anyone found a headphone adapter that works with the mini USB socket? I did try a similar adapter I had for my old v3i, but no joy.

  • one more thing the navigation wheel is practically useless because its not so "sensitive" and its not convenient its harder then u think...

  • ok listen i bought the phone 2 weeks ago and already sold it honestly the phone has high featuress but whats the point if it freezes every 5 minutes i reset this phone 3 times a day its so annoying its slowww the keyboard screen is small so its easier to type with the keypad i mean honestly i would love this phone if it was faster, it looks sexy, the flash on the camera isnt all that, the other thing is switching between calls like lets say ur on the phone and u get another call 70% of the time it freezes, overall it takes meee wayy more time to do simple tasks like phone calls and text messaging then with a regular 100$ phone, soo thats why i sold it no offense to anyone who like it but again everyone has a diffrent experience with phone and no im not picky or tryin to put this phone down because im some fan of another product if thats what ur sayin!!

  • MERC REVIEWThere is no difference between the 614 and 600. These are the same phone but with different names for the different continents. I dont know what LEAP is so if you explain me i can tel you though. i bought it from europe. it has benn on market since march. the camera is really good and the autofocus helps a lot - A LOT. if you have questions post them i check regularly :)

  • to all, what is the big difference between 614c and 610c..have you an idea VIC.. i want to buy an hp soon.. thanks to merc review.. add more

  • Merc thank you for review! If you find anything else to add to it during your usage time plz put it here. I'm also very pleased with HP - I've been using HP 4700 and was higly pleased with it! I believe in HP and hope to become an 614c user too!

  • Hi Merc, Do you know if the phone supports LEAP for wifi? FYI, Contacted singapore HP and they mentioned that the ipaq will be released in Apr, though they are also not sure of the exact date.

  • Hey MERC!! Thx for the review!! very helpful!! Can you tell me how good the video recording is in comparison to another brand?? My most recent phone is an sony ericsson w810 2mp camera and the quality was very good and sharp for pic and clips!! thanks man

  • Hi Merc, thanks for the review. I had been looking for the review though. and find out there is an issue with two things: 1. connection 2. camera so can tell me more about your xp with this device? - a buyer candidate.

  • HP iPAQ 600 Business navigator customer review I dont know why but i really couldnt find a review of this phone when i was considering whether to buy it. When i now have it, i could say this is the best windoes mobile pocket pc on the market now. it is far better than the htc touch cruise and tytn 2. Firstly the 520 mHz processor is better than the 400 mHz htc. Another thing which turned me off from htc are their problems with the video acceleration software. The review of touch vruise in gsmare really turned me off. the camera makes really quality pics and the built in hp program enables you to zoom and see every detail. the battery is really good and you can serf, play, listen to music almost 2 days. the phone is of reaally good quality and is well made. another thing is the free hp software which you can download from their siter as soon as you buy the phone. hp are much bigger company and have traditions rather than htc which have been making good phones for less than 3 years. i suggest buying the hp 610c if youa re searching for a device with really good quality, windows, camera, touch creen and gps. i have igo and not until 5 mins i have at least 7 satellites. i have been watching whole movies on it. this is something you cant do on htv touch cruise. the smart wheel is really cool and enabled you to use the phone without the stylus. Merc

  • For all you guys looking for pictures taken on this device, I finally found them.. click..

  • anyone knows if this ipaq phone supports LEAP software?

  • Hi! 614c had been realesed from middle of March and still nobody put reliable and intersting review, only promises. What happens guys? Lasy or simply you don't care about other HP addicts? Pls put it, we are waiting.

  • Hi MPeA There is nothing (god) to say about camera. I had in mind to do some tests against iPhone and others. After few pictures I considered the HP far inferior. I'm still very happy I chose 614c and not iPhone.

  • it247.com have them cheapest in the UK for 288 incl VAt and free shippping. There is also a 50 cash back if you buy before the 30th of March, so it becomes quite a good deal. But be careful ordering from it247... :).. their reviews are a bit dodgy

  • TO AG when using the smart touch you must press the ok button on the keyboard. actually the phone has 2 ok buttons- on in front and on the side. the smart touch is very helpful indeed and i recommend buying this phone for anyone interested in it.

  • Hi, I finally got to use my new ipaq. This week i have been terribly busy and on thursday i have to attend a conference. I will put up a review sometime next week. But tomorrow, if i get time i can answer a few queries

  • to traki, you are wrong traki becuase symbian game are not running to PC with OS by windows.. we are discussing here a games that were running to this kind of PDA because some other consumers wants a games for their PDA or cp..

  • In my previuos post the address didn't work (I don't know why) so I put it once again - may be more succsessful :-)

  • Hi! I have found only 2 reviews on 614c: and the other on Matt blog (sorry no address kept). Also not bad info on and But still there is not enough. So plz if you find any - give us know. Thanks an advance!

  • pls tell me about the camera of this phone.

  • Sasa, I don't own an iPAQ yet but I've read at modaco forum that this device works with 8GB SDHC card with no problem

  • Merc Thanks for your review of 614. I have a question for you - while using the smart wheel to reach the desired option, can you "press/click" select on the wheel? Or do youe need to use the OK button on the side?

  • It can run DivX with resolution 728/4.. , bit rate 1300. you just have to install mobile divx player.

  • to KEVIN, no kevin thats wrong.. because we talk to each other to know the best of all phones so that we need to compare this to other CP.. i like this phone but before buying i need to know first what kind of games or why this phone is good to buy.. is that true my FRIENDS thanks..

  • Hi people, did anybody put in this device micro SDHC card (8GB or bigger) and saw it working? Planning to buy a 8GB card but want to be sure it will work. Thanks!

  • Dear All, please i hope all of ur comments to be about HP only not about other mobiles or games as it will not be useful for who r interested in hp and who r interested in other mobiles can post thier opinions in the mobile page thanks

  • Hi, for those who ald own the phone, may i find out if there is a built-in stylus pocket? and how's the GPS?

  • hey guys!! how is the volume loudness, vibration strength and video record quality?? thx!!

  • Hey guys as you i have been trying to find a good review of this phone because i wan wondering whether i should by this hp or a htc touch cruise. There is not any good review so i want to help you choosing. Firstly i want to say that it gives the impression for a very businessman phone and is quite well built. another thing i want to point out is the free software which can be downloaded as soon as you buy it. i installed iGO and it works perfectly - uptil 5 min it is ready. the display is of superb quality and it is quite easy to work witk. the smart touch wheel does very good job and is useful. the precessor is super - 520 mHz. i can say this is the best pocket pc on the market now. ask me if you have questions

  • HI! everyone , how to set up WiFi? I 've been trying for week now.

  • Who want Symbian for game buy PC.

  • I just start my new 614c - good screen in Sun light - pictures: you can read the text from his pictures - case plastic looks strong

  • Lorenz, i have no info regarding N90 in italy. Gopu

  • to Gupo, if i have changed my mind to buy n96 i am willing to wait.. but now i want a n90 i have a lot of application and almost hundred of symbian games.. and not more expensive but the problem is where can i find here in italy i dont know if this unit has already phase out

  • to all, i like most of nokia series 60 version 1.0 because i have a collection almost hundred of symbyian games.. beginning at 7650 to n90. compatible phones are the same platform, same version and same OS.. i like old phones but more functionality and more amazing games

  • hey guys when will we see a full reciew of the phone i am thinking of buying a new phone and i am not sure which of these two this and htc touch cruise could you help me thanks

  • yes it has pdf viewer

  • Hi! Have this phone pdf viewer?

  • cool q{B6, waiting for your review! Please don't forget to provide a picture of text scanning with the device, it will show if camera work is appropriate for that task. I asked about that twice already, hope some other happy HP owners won't miss that part too. Also I wonder if navigation wheel can be used as a D-pad?

  • its already released and its available in most part of europe.. I had ordered mine and they said its going to be shipped today.. next week i will put up a review of this phone

  • Hi to everybody! Check review here! Was difficult to find, but that's it! Hope I was helpful to all of you guys!

  • Lorenz, N96 wont be released until the year end and that would be the same time when S60 touch screen is going to be released. N95 is a good one in the market now, provided u dont want high end PDA Functions. But if you are looking for a PDA 1st and then a phone then the ones listed by DOC-PPC are the best in the market now.... ipaq614 and tytn II are the best and they are quite the same. It depends on what form factor you need, side slide or front key pad... Gud luck

  • lorenz, here is some tips for you what is hot on the market now, if you wanna symbian S60 you have N95 ,N82,or samsung g810(in 1-2 weeks).(none touch screen). if you wanna Windows mobile pro(touch screen) you have hp 614,asus p750,htc kaiser. all of these phones have high specs sheets. sheers ppc-doc

  • to PPC DOC, i want to by n 90 here in italy but it was already phase out.. have you an idea what which is you most like hp or nokia becuase i want to buy a new one.. leaving the Series 60 Edition.. for you what advantage most from hp to n96 16 GB.. thanks lorenz

  • to PPC DOC, i agree to that, because i prove it to different cp that have an S60 OS.. many N Series are not compatible to 6630 but N 70 and N 90 are compatible because of being the same platform and version of OS.. i hope that the time will come there have more improvement to this discussion..

  • Hey,device owner is it possible to make 3G calls on this handset?

  • lorenz till the moment there is no symbian emulator for windows mobile or windows xp or vista,so only symbian v3 can play games for symbian v3 ,so n95 programs doent work on ur 6630 or n-gage (as you notice programs and games for 6630 os v2 doesnt install on n-gage os v1).compatibility in symbian s60 itself is an issue too as you notice.

  • to PPc DOC, thanks but i know that two OS are different but i am only asking if it is possible... because i have a n gage and 6630 i like both of them i want to buy another cp but i want a series 60 compatible unit because i want to use always my msdictionary italian english...

  • how is the video recording quality?? Im a big video recorder and wanted to know how its honestly holds up!!! thank you!!!

  • Do you think, there will be some fix for the camera (software update or something)? Pictures look awful.. :o(

  • lorenz please m8 S60 and Windows mobile is too different platform 2 different OS (like Vista and Linux) they are not compatible. there is some developers like infinite dreams has made 2 versions of the same game each for different platform , like skyforce, but you cant install .sisx on windows mobile or a .Cab file on symbian os. PPC-DOC

  • Frankie, lorenz, BURO (and probably other HP owners): could you please shoot some shots of text from a book or magazine or whatever to see if it is unreadable (like on an example I've seen) or not. Both in low-light and normal conditions could be great. Thanks in advance!

  • please who have this phone... try to install a symbian game and tell me the result because some website selling a symbian games for this Unit hp ipaq 610c and there is no need to by when it is not running properly.. what other phones compatible to 6630 including themes and symbian games.. i know the nokia models compatible to this... but i want to know the other brand or model.. thanks lorenz

  • to PPC DOC, but the other email add said it is possible like the games made by infinite dreams like sky force v1.22 i know that maybe some java games are possible. when you have this phone please try a symbian game to it when the result is good please reply to this comment. thanks...

  • to lorenz, s60 .sisx games can be only played on s60 device not on windows device. maybe some java games that work on s60 will work on windows mobile. i am waiting for some benchmarks results so i can compare to my asus p525 or to asus p750. please someone do a benchmark with spb benchmark and defferent benchmarks and give us the result. thanks PPC-DOC

  • no video call, no fm radio, it possible to play here a series 60 games that play on 6630 nokia

  • what tooking you guys so long to review this cell phone?

  • In most cases 4800 is enough but different receivers use different speeds . Try OziexplorerCE

  • I use Franson GPS gate...for hadrware COM4 and COM2 port with baud 57600..if you install Garmin and TomTom at the same time, remove 1st Garmin emulaator from GPS gate setup

  • can someone please give a comparison rating for the ringer volume and viberating strength??

  • BURO What settings did you use for garmin software?

  • Hi! I got it yesterday..This time HP made a great impression...Cheers ..A++++ everything perfect..I tested GPS with(Tomtom, Garmin, iGuidance and iGo) softwares. Excellent and also 3D games are so good (because HP use Qualcomm MSM6280 (2x QDSP4000)...

  • Finally, I was able to fix the GPS problem. Try the following settings: In PDA's System Settings, tap 'External GPS'. Then in Programs choose COM3; in Hardware GPS hardware port: COM6, Baud rate 9.600 (I dont know if it matters this value); Access: select Manage GPS automatically. Settings in Google Map: Menu - Options Track Location Settings select Set by Windows. Then press Track Location in Menu and I wish you Pleasant navigation! Good Luck!

  • hey frankie / andrey, hows is the navigation wheel in operation. Is it as smooth like in the ipod. What other softwares has HP provided other than the ones usually with WM6. How much would guys rate this device on 10 ? Can you please list the things u guys didnt like about this device ?

  • device owners, could you please make a couple of shots of some text (like a book page or newspaper) - both in good and low lighting conditions? I've seen an example of an awful result where the text was totally unreadable. For me personally built-in camera is primarily for such on-the-fly text snaps, since if I want to take pictures outside I will take a camera. So I think everyone who still expects HP610(614) to appear for sale and consider buying it would be grateful for text photos.

  • Visual GPS, Automapa, iGO 2006 plus - with these programs the iPAQ's GPS worked just fine.

  • Ok, I changed baud rate to 57600 and Google Maps is working now. But garmin XT still not found sattelites. Frankie, which gps program did you tried?

  • Here you are: ,

  • I don't understand what U R talking about. The GPS is working excellent ! I sometimes get an impression that it's better than Sirf Star III.

  • Could someone take some photos (indoor and outdoor) and put it somewhere :)? For example at

  • Hi I have problems with Gps too. When I used Google Maps, the device answer was always your GPS does not appear to be responding. Then I installed Garmin XT. Application detects GPS on port 6 but it cant find satellites. I also use Franson gps gate(app found gps on port 6 again) but still not working. Can please some one tell me the right settings for GPSs to work with garmin and google maps. Thank you

  • Frankie, did you try GPS? Is it work good?

  • Thanks s@m , thanks for the link... i searched the shop in google map and found saw the shop.. Looks very shoddy !!!! ;-) Google maps is so amazing now...

  • To all of you who have bought this device: do you HAVE to use the stylus, or can you use the touchscreen only with fingers? and could you please record a demo using this phone and some features and upload it on youtube, we would really appreciate it. thanks in advance

  • I have had mine for a week now, great device it does feel a little funny in the hand. Big fan though

  • To nxEn: the device feels like plastic in hands because it is from genuine plastic (organic material, from derivatives of hydrocarbons).

  • its amazing

  • Andrey For GPS problem, use Fransom GPSgate it should work ... if you don't know how to set it up , go to fransom website and there is manual instructions (make sure baud rate is 57600). I guess you are using this in USA or North America....let me know

  • To all of you already using the device - I read on other forums that the device feels plastic-like in the hand, is that true? Thanks.

  • I bought an Ipaq 614c yesterday and these are my first impressions after one day: The sound during calls is very good, in my opinion, it is loud and clear enough. But the ringing sound should be louder. The processor seem to be fast, but are some situations when the device is moving slow, especially when you open many applications. Camera is OK in indoor when is good light (better than other camera phones), but mediocre in low light. I didnt try it yet outside or the video function. Wi-Fi and bluetooth are working properly. It is early to speak about the battery lie, but first impression is that it is not lasting much. But the main problem is GPS. There isnt a button for enabling GPS. They say (in the users manual) that you must open your navigation software and then the GPS is enabled automatically. I couldnt do this! When I used Google Maps, the device answer was always your GPS does not appear to be responding. The same answer when I used IGO software. I understood that is not only my problem. I called to HP to ask them for this problem and they said that will call me back when they have an answer. If anybody had a same problem and he fixed it, please help me!

  • Yes ... I am from Bulgaria and allready use this phone from 2-3 days. With iGO 2006 or iGO 8 works wery well. BT and WiFi works great. This ting is very fast ! Camera ... i usually don't use camera, but the quality of the pictures is good. Battery - no more than 2-3 days ... but i'm not sure, because when i install someting the phone start charging ... Micro SDHC... works great with HC cards. I'm with 4 GB class 6 P.S sorry for my english

  • Of course you don't need to use any external GPS antenna. You just can do it in extremely hard environment (city jungle). Phone sound quality is great as well as the speaker's. The sound is loud and clear. No problems with WiFi and BT so far. I don't know about the range yet. I'll let you guys know about the battery life after a few days (I've got the iPAQ 2 days ago). Greetings for all.

  • Hey Frankie, Good to know you finally got one. I've been waiting for it since ages. When you say that there is GPS antenna input, does it mean you need to connect a GPS antenna externally to use GPS ? I thought it has a built in GPS chip for navigation. Can you write a more detailed review on all the features, phone sound quality / clarity while talking, navigation wheel, ease of using the key pad, ring tone (is it loud enough), wifi (does it have a good range), battery life (how soon do u need to recharge it). Would appreciate to know your experience.

  • Sorry for the delay. It does not have stereo speakers. You have to use the mini USB headphones. Actually mini USB is the only hole in the device (not including the GPS antenna input). The camera picture quality is superb. Someone from Bulgaria also reported the availability of the iPAQ. If you want to buy one, you can visit: Its a polish language only site ! Bye.

  • hey frankie if you really got one, why don't you tell us about it, write a short review

  • Frankie does it have stereo speakers? camera quality?? thanks

  • But I've got one ! It's marvelous !

  • HP said they are not going to launch this product

  • What does "coming soon" in english language mean ? Isn't the ipaq available already ? Hey guys from GSMArena - wake up !

  • one question,is the inbuilt speaker(S) is stereo or mono (in other words) does it have one or 2 speakers???

  • waiting for a review.hurry gsmarena...can not wait to buy it.

  • Does it need ext. GPS antenna, so that GPS device to work properly?

  • How about the speakers quality ? I owe a Hp 6515, and the sound quality is very poor, hope it is better on Hp 610 ...

  • Who will write the. first review.

  • @ em_bg Yes it is SDHC compatible

  • In Bulgaria is available - 500 euro. ;)

  • is IPAQ 610 SDHC compatible or not?

  • ... i.e. the phone is NOT SDHC compatible?

  • well i'm sorry if i seemed rude or anything but having 8Gb or 12Gb of memory instead of 2 is not the same. Radio is sometimes needed for news or something else, but video calling is waste of time and money i think, we have it in the internet (msn=P ) =)

  • Who uses them anyway!!! omg ... and what mem. card you employ - micro SD only or micro SDHC?

  • Who uses them anyway!!! omg

  • Disadvantages of this model 1. No video call camera 2. No FM Radio

  • It's available NOW. Expansys have them in stock ready to ship out. Most retailers will have them available by Thursday. I was also informed that you DO NOT need the optional HP GPS kit as the 614c has it built in, you just need the Tom Tom or equivalent software and your ready to go. Let's hope HP have sorted it out properly this time and they don't all get recalled. Mine should arrive Wednesday latest I hope. Will let you all know how it goes. I wonder if it will actually turn on?

  • to raymond.sundisk have 12gb.my cousin will return from dubai next week and i'll take in my hand, but is not interesting for me i give him money to byu for me 32gb red "corsar " usb flash-is extermly hay speed 30mb/s read,20mb/s write.

  • no 2 camera for 3G videocall?????????????

  • I am CONFUSED - it is written on the official flyer : FOR TURN-BY-TURN NAVIGATION OPTIONAL HP NAVIGATIN KIT AVAILABLE. So is there a gps chipset in this device for third party software(TomTom,....) or not? Thanks.

  • The best pc pocket ever!!!:) lithuania wants it!

  • the highest capacity micro sdhc memory is not 4gb is 8gb,just tought i let you guys know!

  • There are already 8GB microSD cards:

  • Does anyone know whether the Chinese version will be available or not?

  • It supports MicroSDHC. As for now the biggest capacity of microSDHC is 4Gb, but it will probably be more soon :)

  • This device supports microSD cards - what is the maximum card size supported?

  • Hi more information go to www.devicewire.co.uk/hp-ipaq-614c-business-navigator Now, HP sale Worldwide but not in USA. or go to Thai language website at www.pdamobiz.com/show_news.asp?NewsID=118400&PN=1

  • Tarek ! Thank you ...

  • S@M yes it will work world wide

  • For using GPS, is it necessary to buy the optional HP GPS Navigation Kit?

  • Tarek Thanks for the info ...I really appreciated it... I will definitely go into it...before that let me ask one question,,what I understand is it is released for UK ,,right ? if so how abt GSM network ? is it the same(850 / 900 / 1800 / 1900 )? Thanks in advance !!!

  • the 614c is already with 310 E Pound here

  • I would like to know sth. Is that phone cancelled for U.S only or The Whole World?

  • I received the same email today. Loosers.... Good for me that I went for the HTC Cruise a week ago. Very satisfied.!

  • Canceled!! I got an e-mail from HP saying it was canceled. Anyone else got this e-mail?

  • HP has just cacelled the production of the device.....

  • It is confirmed that this phone will be available at the end of this month for the Europe region (614C version). Regarding bug concerns - if someone is affraid that this version will be bug prone because of the delay, they should also be affraid for every other new model they are interested in because every new model has deadlines as an issue. I'm going to buy it as it arrive in next 15 days.

  • I have got 2 new of these after using some contacts. Obviously one is for me (i was dying to get it). I can sell the other one, I am in UK so its 614c version. If you want it pls leave message. GBP 350.

  • Sadly the phone will not be released. I've been waiting for months now I have nothing :( I got this email from HP: "You recently registered via HP's website to be notified when the HP iPAQ 610 Business Navigator is available to purchase. We appreciate your interest in this product. However, due to recent legal issues between suppliers of mobile phone technologies, HP has decided not to offer the iPAQ 610 Business Navigator to U.S. customers as previously planned. Please consider other HP products that may meet your needs and at significant discounts!"

  • P.S. The email title is "HP iPAQ 610 Business Navigator Product Cancellation Notice"

  • The following is what I received email from HP. "You recently registered via HP's website to be notified when the HP iPAQ 610 Business Navigator is available to purchase. We appreciate your interest in this product. However, due to recent legal issues between suppliers of mobile phone technologies, HP has decided not to offer the iPAQ 610 Business Navigator to U.S. customers as previously planned. Please consider other HP products that may meet your needs and at significant discounts!"

  • I doubt that the final release will be bug free (the delay usually hides issues). You have to wait to the fall for a customer tested one, don't rush to grab it.

  • My friend that works in a HP reseller company confirmed that this phone FINALLY arrives in March! Hope it will be worth of such a long waiting.

  • I can't wait that long anymore....They should not post (due Feb 2008) like that if they(HP) can't release at that date...SHAME ....BOOO! every day (not twice a week) I check on HP site, I see iPAQ 610 , but if I click the link, the page is unavailable. I was wondering that HP web masters did they know that the page is unavailable.......SHAME ......HP ...long way to go....because of web administrators....

  • Seems as though GsmArena left out the Handwriting Recognition feature.Found directions on how to use it from Fcc docs listed on page 13 of the user's manual. Paragraph that's titled "Enter Text". You can tell that it's specifically for this phone and not just a generic draft because it tells you how to disable the Smart-touch navigation wheel (unique to this phone) before entering text. It also give you choices like Transcriber, Block Recognizer, Keyboard...

  • Love this phone but been waiting for ages!! Gave up waiting and got a nokia n95..best move ive made in a long time!! great phone....

  • There are production issues that affected the release, plus a new version of windows mobile 6 to come out and to be included in the phone....relax, its coming.

  • I just checked that the IPAQ 600 is still posted on the HP UK site and is still Due february 8. Waiting impatiently to see reviews of the real unit...

  • FCC approval link : There are quite a few Qualcomm chipset in this phone, check it out

  • They totally removed the page for this phone on HP.com. Cannot find the page I saw before, searched and zilch. Maybe they found a major problem with the phone and will not be able to release it soon. Gosh, does this mean that when they do release it, it's not a good idea to buy one since it might be buggy as hell? Waaahhh.. and I've been waiting for ages.

  • This year... they lost me. I already bought the HTC Cruise. Let's see the HP phone's future.....

  • Shame , another month of waiting, what is wrong with HP, anyone knows what is the major problem that caused this delay ?

  • Just got off the phone with HP and now they say MARCH. I'm a loyal iPaq guy and have been waiting for this phone since CES 07 but I dont think I will wait much longre then March 3rd to replace my Blackberry. Come on HP stop dragging you feet.

  • Some days back when i checked the HP website, i find that this model is no longer listed. I tried to do a search on this model but nothing appears. I guess they are not going to release this model

  • everyone who waitin for this phone ..check this link at

  • I wanted this phone last October. I gave up waiting and bought an iPhone. Best thing I ever did!!!

  • I saw yesterday in HP England like 360 "pounds" and it said it was due for Feb 08. Today there was no price and NO release date. That would be 700$.

  • i have seen some price of 300$. is this for real?

  • when in God's name will hp release this blooming phone, i know it is a nice phone but how long are they going to let is Waite before they release the phone.

  • Should I buy the HTC Cruise or wait "who knows how long?" for this one?

  • Mr Sultan ! Please be patient...this nice phone will be released pretty soon. They (HP) are repalcing WM6

  • I owned and RW6828, and recently needed technical support. Contacting the HP was worthless, and I understand now that it's because the 6828 it's an HTC. I had waited for this telephone for long, but everyday are released new telephones with a lot more technology, and maybe I wouldn't pay the extra price for HP branding.

  • Reason: fear to compete!

  • It is interesting that this phone can not be found on HP web site any more. Anybody know the reason???

  • Is that phone released? i check in pdadb.net and that phone is under "Browse New Models".

  • does somebody actually use the 3g camera? video calling seems a waste of time and money to me.

  • koko , it shouldnt be a problem

  • can anybody tell if I can connect to the internet through the usb.

  • @ Silence A-GPS requires an active connection with assistance servers to enhance the accuracy of calculations. The phone also pushes tasks and calculations to be processed by those servers to save time and battery life. Sometimes, this type of connection, whether over GPRS or HSDPA depending on your Carrier's infrastructure, requires you to pay extra fees for the data transfer. Sometimes it is free! You have to check with your carrier customer service to know. I think in the Stats it is free, because of some law that was issued a few years ago, which stated that a cell phone has to be easily allocated in case of emergency using GPS. And that's why they came up with A-GPS in the first place; to enhance the accuracy and fulfill the requirement

  • waaaw perfect just need 3g camera and will be the top of all mobile phones

  • @4nh, I am also waiting for this handset to be relesed but its been a long time... Meanwhile your opinion about HTC is only one side of the coin. AMong all windows based handsets , tytnII is the best. The only issue is with the video driver and it will be solved once WM 6.1 gets released. Tytn is a wonder device but I will sell mine when ipaq is released becoz the foam factor of ipaq suits me more.

  • HTC serious about their new release??? Well i'm so sorry, but i'm not quite agree with that. The pioneer of their product TyTnII has video driver problem, and many of its users has raise bounty to create such driver, because HTC (seems) do not care to settle this matter. And HTC Touch Dual???, i don't even understand in the 1st place why they throw this stuff in the market with lack of important feature like WiFi... Well i ain't pro anyone, in fact i was almost purchase HTC product, but this ipaq is what i really need, though we might not no what will this release become. Worse or better. If the delay is for the better (QA), i think it is also has it bright side? Just wait and see...

  • it's takes too long i ll stick to htc looks that they more serious with new releases.. good luck HP in loosing your customers every day while htc taking over the market.. all da best=]

  • This device is making its final touches and is ready for release. Just hold on for a couple of weeks and you will for sure amazed by this great phone. This phone is really Coooooooooooooool!

  • A-GPS - pay for GPRS transfer? yes or not???

  • LOL - HP iPAQ 600 Series Extended Battery 3180 mAh Li-Ion

  • why are all the links on the hp site down i hope they are still going to make it :/ although i miss the 2nd camera!

  • i've been waiting for months for this handset to be released. If its cancelled... oh my god!!!!

  • great windows phone!!!grab this one!!

  • I checked HP site today...there no more information abt 610c...what is going on ? HP cancel the phone to release ? Any idea or any info please ?

  • ?????????? Good GPS Or not?

  • GPS Protocol: NMEA 0183 GPS Chip: Qualcomm MSM6280 gpsOne HTC TyTN II (Qualcomm MSM6280 - NMEA 0183)

  • NMEA 0183 is an industrial standard not a chipset, and all HTC products are using a Qualcomm solution for GPS. Please stop posting lies!

  • A-GPS is a functionality working side by side with the main GPS Chipset! For the love of God please stop posting shit that you don't understand! Sirf Star III can also work as A-GPS but it's too damn good therefore they don't bother adding the extra lines of code and the extra hardware to communicate with the assitance servers. If you're living in a country that doesn't have assistance servers like Egypt for example, the navigation in the iPAQ will depend only on the signal received from the satellites. A-GPS helps the GPS chipset to work better. YOU HAVE TO HAVE A GPS CHIPSET IN THE FIRST PLACE! A-GPS is not a stand alone technology! READ BEFORE YOU POST! SirfStar III is a GPS chipset

  • I am hoping that HP would change AGPS with Sirf III .

  • Devices with - NMEA 0183 : Toshiba Portg G920 HTC P6550 (HTC Sedna) Hewlett-Packard iPAQ 910c / 912c / 914c Nokia N95 8GB NAM HTC Omni Hewlett-Packard iPAQ 610c / 612c / 614c HTC S420 (HTC Erato) I-Mate Ultimate 8502 HTC P6500 (HTC Sirius 100) O2 XDA Orbit II (HTC Polaris) Samsung SGH-i780 Samsung SGH-i616 Nokia N82 HTC Touch Cruise P3650 (HTC Polaris 100) O2 XDA Stellar (HTC Kaiser 120) Samsung SGH-i617 BlackJack II Nokia N95 8GB AT&T Tilt 8900 (HTC Kaiser 110) AT&T Tilt 8925 (HTC Kaiser 100) Vodafone v1615 (HTC Kaiser 120) Nokia N95-3 NAM Okwap K871 HTC TyTN II P4550 (HTC Kaiser 120) Dopod CHT 9110 HTC Advantage X7501 (HTC Athena) Motorola MC35 Nokia 6110 Navigator Nokia E90 Communicator I-Mate JAQ4 Vodafone VPA Compact GPS (HTC Trinity 100) BenQ-Siemens P51 HTC Advantage X7500 (HTC Athena 100)

  • As a whole, the GPS of the TyTN II (Qualcomm MSM6280 - NMEA 0183) is very usable, and gives very good results. Although it is not as powerful as the SirfStar III when it comes to reception, when directly compared with the chip used in Nokia phones (E90 and N95) makes them look funny.

  • Sirf III is too expensive to get in HP

  • sirf III is any day better than agps... Agps is assisted gps and slow and less sensitive than sirf III... I have comapared them on asus ( sirf III ) and AGPS ( in nokia e90, tytn II and nokia n82) Hopefully Hp would integrate sirf III in their handset....

  • nice!

  • Cheers ! HP ... I can't wait to buy this. Could anyone can explain using SIRF III (20 channels) and A-GPS (NMEA 0183) better?

  • Yes. looks wise hp is much better than asus. Also th screen is bigger and the navigation key sounds interesting. But asus is smaller and lighter

  • seems like it doesn't have front VGA camera for video conferencing

  • for those who want to buy this machine, maybe you can also consider another model from Asus P750. this HP model looks like slightly better than asus but still dont know how the performance is. i have tried the earlier model from asus, Asus P525. it was awesome and never giving me a problem.

  • Phone users should know that HP products may have issues unknown to the average users. Read today's ZDnet report:"Computer maker Hewlett Packard has fessed up to a gaping security hole on scores of laptop models, warning that the backdoor could users at risk of drive-by code execution attacks".

  • Hi, I posted at the Hp ipaq forum and they said that the delay in the release is not because they want to in corporate wm 6.1 in the new handset. they also did not divulge he reason for the delay.

  • i feel like i HAVE to buy this phone, it,s perfect

  • So to cut a long story short: a) A-GPS works "WITHOUT" subscription, but it only works "WHERE" it is available; i.e. where there exists assistance servers. b) If the phone can not find any servers, or it fails to establish a connection with one, the GPS chipset will continue functioning by searching for satellite signals and calculating the phone's location through the triangulation process. c) Some guy posted on this discussion board that he tested the phone in Macedonia, and said that the GPS worked fine. It comes with google maps installed, but he didn't test whether it is possible to install a 3rd party navigation software or not. My own guess is that you can do that. This is Windows Mobile; tons of applications out there. Nokia limited this by releasing the N95 (both versions) and the E90 with a GPS chipset that can not be detected by 3rd party navigation softwares; because the softwares keep searching for a bluetooth GPS dongole, rather than a chipset integrated onto the phone itself. It only needs very simple extra lines of code to be added to the Operating System to make the GPS chipset appear to be connected via bluetooth, said by GSM Arena guys on one of their articles here. Finally, I think HP delayed this unti because Microsoft is about to release a new version of Windows Mobile. It would not be nice for us to buy the phone, and then three months afterwards, a new OS comes out!

  • I want to explaing two points here: 1- HP did not announce that this phone will have a SiRFStar III chipset. Yet, no one knows if it has it or not. My own opinion, based on what I read, is that phones with the QualComm 400MHz processor has SiRFStar III chipset; maybe that has something to do with bonding the two of them on chipset level. Frankly I am not sure about it. This phone is using a Marvell PXA270 520 MHz. And as someone mentioned earlier, if it was the SiRFStar III, HP would have said it! 2- As for A-GPS: A-GPS means assisted GPS, which means that the GPS function is being "ASSISTED" by the GSM platform in order to enhance performance, and increase the accuracy of pinpointing the phone's location. If any PDA phone that has A-GPS function does not have a SIM card inside, the GPS chipset will work just fine according to the operation circumstances; i.e. the environment in which the phone is present during performing navigation tasks. A-GPS simply means that the phone will push tasks to be processed by an assistance server, thus saving time and battery life. The assistance server, which has a better lock on the satellites signals, will send two types of data to the phone: a) It will send information regarding the current satellites locations, thus helping the chipset on the phone to quickly acquire a lock, and hence saving time and battery life. Simply it is telling the chipset exactly "where" to look at. b) It will also send information regarding the current location of the phone, based on "SIGNAL POWER CALCULATIONS". The server will calculate how much signal power is required to deliver a signal powerful enough to the cell phone. But those calculations are not always correct. Here is a typical scenario where this type of calculations will totally fail to calculate the phone's precise location: Let's say that the server will calculate that "X watts" are required to reach the cell phone. From the power equation the server will calculate, for example, that the distance between the phone and the antenna is 500m. But what if the cell phone was being used only 5m away, yet inside a concrete building, or inside a steel-based building (the shielding effect of the conductor "steel" will require the antenna to use more power to deliver the signal), and "X watts" of power is required to establish a connection?! There was an article published here on GSM Arena about the new Google Maps software, which has just been released, that enable users to know where they are based on this type of calculations. Read that article and it will explain that this type of technology is not close to ordinary GPS in accuracy.

  • In spite of all its features its disappointing that it does not have a vga screen.

  • I meant to say, if there was a SiRF chip in it, they would mention it, I'm sure

  • There is no Sirf Star III, it has A-GPS (assisted gps) and I don't know if you have to pay to use it or not. May be they will change it to a Sirf StarIII, but I doubt

  • hello everyone.just need quick advise whether this phone is using GPS chipset from SiRFstarIII and can be pair with Garmin Mobile XT navigation software? Any input would be appreciated.

  • THe handset is going to have WM 6.1 when its going to be released in early next year. This is the reason for the delay

  • Yes; unfortunately that is true. And the phone being sold on ebay might be one of the test units that have been distributed for testing purposes. The photos show that the package does not have the items mentioned earlier on HP's website to be "In-the-box". And also the package looks really cheap! If HP says coming 2008, then I'm sorry buy forget about eBay or any other online outlet!

  • Bad news guys! The phone has been postponed to 2008. Check the phone page on HP's official website.

  • Its already on sale on Ebay!!!!

  • in da pic looks like a dream and i just worry about the size cause is almost the same size as kiser tytn II.. Expected smaller=]

  • Is this phone already selling? Which country it is already launched? Pls let me know!

  • sorry, to PUP

  • to POP of course it is a touchscreen phone. it's not like iPhone, it's some hundred times better than it.

  • Is this a touchscreen phone like the iphone?

  • I forgot to mention... The headphones are preaty loud, so does the speakerphone. But the batery life is very short. I was surfing on the net, talking and transfering files over bluetooth the night i got the phone and the batery had 40% next day.

  • Helouu I transered teh pictures to PC and I must say the quality was better, but not stunning. I own Sony Ericsson k750i and his 2MP camera gives pictures with better quality. anyway the built in camera is not the pimary feture on this phone :) The wheel is GREAT!!! I loved it, the navigation while you roll your finger over the keyboard for me was new experiance but a good one. If you roll clockwise it gows downward on menues, while rolling anticlockwise it scrools up, up and up :) About GPS... It works without SIM card, but the model i worked with had Google maps installed, so I needed data connection to work with it. I tried to connect via wifi in a mall, but because of the walls the device coudn't find ANY gps satelite :( i didn't have much time to play with the device (i had to bring back next day :( ) so i didn't installed third party GPS software (i think that this IS a option), but i hope that the final production version will come with some more built it software, including other application for GPS functionality. That's it for now... If I upload the pictures from the camera I will post the link. Cao

  • "theone" can you post some reviews about this handset please

  • @ Solakov hey i'm from macedonia too haha. kako ste? :P can you please record a video and upload it on YouTube. then, please send us the link :) (or e-mail me) Thanks in advance

  • I tried this device , i can say its a very good, and have everything that you need in it. I liked the IPOD like touch feature, you can really use it with one hand.

  • @ Frankie: I believe A-GPS works the same way as an ordinary GPS chip. The usage of the GSM network is an extra; I mean if there is no GSM then no problem, it will only depend on the satellite signal. @Solakov: Have you tried viewing the photos on a computer? I mean if you check a photo taken by a 3.2 Mega Pixel cam on a 65K QVGA screen @ 240x320 I think the image quality might appear as "bad". Would you please try viewing the photo taken on a PC and let us know? Also would you mind test what Frankie pointed at; i.e. does the GPS work fine if there is no SIM card inside? Or if there is no GSM coverage? How about the touch wheel?

  • I'm writing for magazine in Macedonia, and local HP office gave us this pjone to test it... My first impression is that this is very solid phone, wifi works perfect, camera is very bad... More to come from me...

  • Does it only have A-GPS and no standalone GPS receiver ? So you need active GSM connection to use the navigation functions ! I'm not sure I want it that way.

  • Coming soon :)

  • The Price Tag is 599$ on HP's website. Yes, it comes with a stylus. And yes, it has a storage space on its body to store the stylus.

  • Will this come with a stylus? and does it have a place to store the stylus on its body?

  • I'm keeping my fingers crossed for that too. Please GSMArena team write a review about this phone as soon as it comes out. i hope somebody reads this :)

  • I used several HP products, and they never failed me, not even once. My 3052 Multifunction Laser Jet is great. My laptop, and my friends' are working just fine; never even emailed the support guys. HP local dealer in my country is respectful, and they ensure original products, after sale services, and maintenance. I guess it was mere coincidence or bad luck with you man. I also think this phone will be a hit, and the price tag is not really high, 599$ on HP website, compared to the functionality. The only question is: what is the type of the GPS chip used? Is it SiRFstar III?? All we have to do now is sit tight, wait for the phone to actually start shipping, and hope that GSMArena people will give it a try and write a detailed review.

  • When will this phone be out. It is a very good product. I want one I only hope that it will not be expensive.

  • you can already buy it, look it out in HP web

  • Have to wait for 2 more months for this gadget to come out. Hope its not expensive!

  • The HP is better in functionality, but the LG is smaller and is a fashion phone. so, you decide! :)

  • Um...why O2 atom exec can use 256k colour even windowws mobile can't support more than 65k colour

  • HP has poor support, having regard to (a) 26th Oct.07 ZDnet report about its Notebook problems and very poor support by its Help and (b) my own experience with its printer - no response to my repeated written requests for help. Please do bear in mind that suupoort is vital for phone users in any event.

  • I request HP to add "camera for 3G video calling" and "FM radio receiver" in iPAQ 614C series.

  • Although P750 & 612 having same processor speed of 520MHz, however, P750 & 612 having 64MB & 128MB respectively. 128MB good for multi application. The selection may depends own individual need and budget availability.

  • How come the LG new phone KS20 Window Mobile 6 does support is TFT touchscreen, 256K colors? with Size 240 x 320 pixels, 2.8 inches.

  • To 500, The round thing is a iPod like sensor. Here is a video:

  • It displays only 65k colors because windows mobile does not support more colors.

  • It's great in all aspects but how come it only displays 65K colors.

  • Hi Ali, Official HP website says 2008. My insider person says Feb 2008

  • NOTE to JIM: Thanks for update. Can you provide me with a link to the HP web page from which you got the Feb 2008 release date?

  • Lastest launch date is Feb 2008

  • According to HP website, It is coming in 2008!!!

  • Anyone can share what is the big round thing at center of the key pad?

  • Why no sign of product launching, another 10 days to November 2007 liao.

  • I looked for the IPAQ 610 at pricegrabber.com and it shows as avaibale for purchase at the hp.com.... how? is that right??

  • @ Barry Maybe you should the spec's again. It says "Coming Soon". No one has it yet!

  • Can we have some reviews from people who actually have this phone themselves and are not just drooling over pictures and specifications. Thanks.

  • Dream gadget of anyone! And A-GPS means "Assisted GPS". The wiki link mentioned in the previous post will help you know more about it.

  • Please read: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/A-GPS

  • Can somebody pls tell me what exactly is A-GPS.... is this inbuilt feature werby we dont have to attach of configure any other hardware ?

  • I'm also loving this. I was holding out for the Asus P750, then I saw this in a mag, and drooled all over the SmartTouch "iPod" scroller, the 3G speed, and high quality finish & high specs. Can't believe how HP have crammed in so many features in 145g. HP are back on top. Now, when can I get one in the UK?

  • This is he best phone ever. I have been waiting for a long time something good to come out, i never expected HP would do it. WOW BRAVO HP. For the record, Nokia N95 is not even comparable to this one because the HP has Windows. You can find tons of free software for Windows Mobile. On the other hand, SYMBIAN SUCKS!!!

  • You can install Skype Mobile in it. It has Windows Mobile for crying out loud. you can download it from here:

  • regarding the message below..i am full sure you can connesct it to any other laptop. I have an hp1945 pda and this connects fine to any laptop. So as long as the computer has a usb port this will connect fine! Jake

  • can you connect this phone to PC/notebook which is NOT made by/from HP ?

  • Great phone, i love it. Anyone knows if it is possible to talk with Skype on it?

  • Does somebody knows if the radiosound comes true the speakers,or only the headphone ?

  • am I missing something here? 1590mah battery with only 4 hour talk time?

  • This cell will come out on 17.10.07!In Austria!

  • HP have alot to be proud of ,this device is neck and neck with HTC TYTN II ok it lacks keyboard and 3G video calling but in UK 3g calling is a joke..but 3g speed and HSDPA for downloading now were talking especially if you have TMobile Web and Walk..... I like Ipod like wheel on number pad and put in a 4gb or 8gb card full of music and video and games and this baby is a real power-house.. From Videos ive seen refresh rate looks faster than TYTN II Personally ive used TYTN II its good but i find it a pain to keep sliding and tilting device for me IPAQ 610 has touch screen and is as stated better as a single handed device...and having over 7mb over HSDPA now thats fast...has my VOTE..... This is more phone centric with pda touch screen funtionality best of both Worlds 10/10 In one way im glad at last HTC has a serious dcompetitor HP IPAQ 600/900 SERIES..

  • I love the specs of this phone.... but if only hp didn't waste all that wonderful screen space on a key-pad.

  • This phone has onscreen keyboard like LG KU990?

  • The price in HP Online Shop is 599$ for 610 (WITH camera). Check again !

  • The price in HP Online Shop is 599$ for 610 (without camera).

  • Can't wait to get my hands on one.

  • first ,i need the price ,second it's just a personal opinion:video call could make the hp ipack 610 better than the nokia n95 in my point of vue.

  • Its already october! When can i buy this pocket pc?CANT WAIT ANYMORE

  • how about video conferencing ? with the addition of a secondary camera this phone would be the perfect phone for a businessman

  • just on the Fm issue..i think its gone tons of features as it is but im suprised it hasnt as even my old 6230 has one!! Thanks for your helo with gps. Could someone tell me if this will have vodafone live or if it is available to download for it??? Any help would b great. Thanks in advance.... JAKE

  • Hi, could anybody tell me if this will have gps? I.e, if i install tom tom navigator6 will it work as sat nav? Thanks..

  • coz SE P1 doesn't have HSDPA or Windows 6!

  • i like this phone but why is it so expensive the sony Ericsson P1i is out and will give this phone a run for is money i thing if hp want this phone to do well they will have to reduce the sal price to about $500.00 to compete with the P1i

  • Can someone tell me if this phone has a stylus (pen for screen inputs).

  • Really nice phone. But it's too bad that the camera for 3G video call is missing!

  • Does this PDA/phone come with a stylus and is it posible to view photoes that are transfered from your pc to the phone? Thanks

  • The version for the Middle East will be iPAQ 614. I have contacted HP in Dubai (UAE) asking about pricing & availability. They have stated the following: "Kindly be informed that the HP IPAQ614 is going to be available in the ME market by the end of the year, and prices will be announced then." I hope it says within the $600 announced price range.

  • This phone looks great, nice features. I'm going to get this one or ipaq 514. Nice upgrade to replace my sony ericsson k610i.

  • For QWERTY keyboard choose 900 series or else choose 600 series. One more thing 600 is portrait screen whereas 900 is landscape screen.

  • Hi all, I like both of them (610c and 910c). But i do not know which one i should choose. According to Voting Results, iPAQ 610c is better. Can anyone tell me which one should i choose? :)

  • Nice looking phone,I think I might get it.Hopefully the low res screen improves the battery's stamina. Also hopefully HP will come up with accessories such as cases, docking station, extra batteries, screen protectors, etc

  • Except the quality of the screen, i'm totally satisfied with the Performance, Features and Design. It hv all wat i need!!! Love it ^^ i'm looking for powerful PDA with alpha-numeric keypad on bottom of screen long long time ago...well the Asus P526 can't satisfied me...but I'm wondering... why Gigabyte can hv a 262K color TFT Touch screen(2.4")on g-Smart i120 but HP can't? 65K color is really too low...watever... I'm gonna hv this Powerful PDA in my Pocket ^^

  • made by okwap!

  • Is it good or is it bad if it is produced by this Kinpo Electronic (or whatever the name is)?

  • this will be available any day in Sep. the nice thing it's only $599 and 100% satisfaction guarantee by HP with no quistion asked and 100% refund withen 21 days.

  • I think I found my christmas gift as long as it doesn't go above $600 CDN.

  • Does anybody know if this device comes with any dock station and other props included in box? Today comes in my country SE P1i with included GPS reciver with car battery loader.

  • And when will arive ?! HP will in stores in end of september or begining of november ?

  • It's rumoured that this device was manufactured by Kinpo Electronic Can anyone confirm ?

  • EDGE is available!

  • the HP 512 aledi got me.. i think this will be even better.. definately goin for this if de price doesn't exceed US$600 in my country..

  • R u kiddin me. 7.2 mbps of hsdpa. thats the fatsest yet. my nokia doesnt perform as well in practice as it should in theory.

  • Return of the HP! Contains all required features & connectivity. More processing power! more memory!! more input methods!!! more connectivity !!!! Single handed operation!!!!! Hope its NOT over priced!!!!!!

  • where is fm radio??? edge is also unavailable... hp should better take care of those.

  • Chipset: Qualcomm MSM6280 For the GPS is using - gpsOne Opinions about - gpsOne: The GPS receiver is built in the Chipser of the phone (Qualcomm MSM7200) and is gpsOne - the one used in almost all CDMA phones. Many people will be disappointed that it is not a SirfStar III, as it is known as the best on the market, giving excellent results in position lock times, usability and accuracy. But our performance test left us happy with the results: in direct comparison with the first TyTN paired with external GPS with SirfStar III chip (Holux 236), we obtained the same results for GPS Location. The two phones acted absolutely identically they started for the same time (15 seconds), both needed additional 10 seconds for location lock, and calculated a route equivalently fast. This is way better than most other chips on the market. The drawback of the gpsOne compared to the SirfStar III is the weaker signal reception. Although it was completely usable during the tests, we examined the reception in continues driving through the city with the TyTN II (gpsOne) and Holux 236 (SirfStar III), connected to a TyTN next to each other. Both phones used TomTom6 and the TyTN II indicated weaker signal. In about half of the time, it displayed 2-3 out of 5, while the SirfStar III managed to get 4 out of 5. As a whole, the GPS of the TyTN II is very usable, and gives very good results. Although it is not as powerful as the SirfStar III when it comes to reception, when directly compared with the chip used in Nokia phones (E90 and N95) makes them look funny. Price (approximately) - 599$.

  • COOL ... hopefully next upgrade will include sec. camera for video call.

  • The touch sensitive scroll wheel sounds really handy. Maybe SE will copy it for their P series.

  • @nunu Wow, I wonder how I have missed that! Thanks!

  • what agps ?

  • Expansion Slots: microSD, microSDHC, TransFlash, SDIO

  • @ leweei Cellular Data Link: CSD, HSCSD, GPRS, EDGE, UMTS, HSDPA Built-in GPS: NMEA 0183

  • If this phone supports SDHC, then it will be a phone I'm going to buy!!

  • don think its a durable one!i prefer imate 8150.whats the use of a 3mp camera for a business man using this phone!?

  • in reply to Orzi 'what is a-gps?' it is 'assisted gps' feel free to read up on it at (http://www.navigadget.com/index.php/gps-knowledge/a-gps-assisted-gps/) basically its just a variation on the standard to provide more accurate and faster results. hope this helps. ciao.

  • can anyone tell me is there secondary camera in front of the HP iPaq 610c other than the 3.15mp at the back??

  • copied from asus, but asus have new ones that are better

  • cool gadgets...here are some preview.....

  • HP is picking up, both this and the iPAQ 910 are going to right direction. WM6 with excess RAM and all the connectivity interface. Much more better than its previous 6900 series. GPS is global positioning system. with the bundle software u can location urself and mapping your direction on the bundled map. It has came out ages

  • good but my n95 is better

  • I am a local world phone dealer in Dallas and I must say this phone has everything that a man needs. I just hope it isn't over-priced like the iPhone, in which most dealers like myself hate. This phone should be a great seller, along with the 910c. HP is going towards the right direction!

  • Nice one from HP and check out the battery 1590 mAh mad! got everything a phone could possibly need, would be interesting to see what the video playback would be like...

  • Honestly, this is what a business man need, a compact slim smart design, with all the connectivity one cam imagen , with even 3+ mega pixel camera, Lovely, fantastic , great, and more with Built in GPS.

  • what is a-gps???

  • are u sure about the 65K screen??

  • wtf? why did they have to put such a crappy screen on such a beautiful device

  • and also 3G..

  • That circular line is a wheel, u can use it to navigate through menus. It has a touchscreen, so it's better to update that in specs table.

  • Whats that circular design on on keypad? Looks interesting...
