HP Slate7 Extreme - User Reviews

  • It comes with a Stylus

  • does this come with a stylus?..does it support stylus ?

  • Thank you! Mine stopped charging and I tried holding the two buttons for 20 seconds and it looks like this did the trick!

  • The USB port is Micro-A which is rectangular instead of contoured as the normal micro USB are and as such allows the cable to wiggle within the socket and the socket eventually fails. This device is also sold as EVGA Tegra Note 7 and all information I have found suggests it too has the same issue. This should be classed as a production flaw and repaired under warranty but HP refuses to do it for anyone.

  • I've had Samsung Galaxy 2, 3, & 4, Ematic, Amazon HD, Nook, and Kindle. This HP slate 7 extreme is the tablet I've been truly excited about. I paid under $80 new. Trouble is, it seems to be the only one, period. Should have bought all I could afford. Can't buy a stylus for it at any price, but a #2 pencil works fine. To replace the tablet would cost me more than double what I paid last week. It's crazy. But I do love this tablet. Not at twice the price I paid though. The facing camera isn't top of the line, but I'm not into looking at myself.

  • same problem here. the worst part is that HP offered no solution. according to them, the problem is not covered by the warranty.

  • I think the charger has some static problem. I purchased this tablet few months ago and not charging after a few days of use. I got frustrated. Then I realized that the charger is sensitive to fluctuations in the electric line. I tried to short the plugs with a steal conductor, while connected to the tablet, it got resolved and charging again. But this re-occurs whenever the adapter is pulled out from middle of charging or power went off.

  • Got this tablet a year ago..Right now the micro usb charging connector has been damaged. No use at all.... I do not recommend this product to every one...

  • i want a tab for internet and reading pdf files mainly nothing eles is that a good tab for this or not ?

  • .. really? im still in 4.4.2!!!

  • Wawww upgradable to Android 4.4.4 kitkat

  • I have had this product just over a year and it's stopped charging, tried different plugs and cables as suggested but still didn't work. Went into currys and explained the situation they said to hold the power button and volume switch for 20 seconds and it should solve the problem as apparently they get full of static. Went home and did that and it's charged straight away. Did this after purchasing an iPad mini!!!!!!!

  • Incredible tablet,,.., upgrade no available ,..

  • My slate7 extreme tablet charging port connection problems, not charging

  • This device is troublesome to say the least. I am now on my third warranty replacement for this tablet. It continuously fails to charge due to a flimsy mini-usb port. This occurred on all three devices I have been shipped. Performance is OK, graphics are adequate, battery life is disappointing, but the charging issue MUST be known to HP. I mean I'm three for three on this failure. HP has been good about replacing the faulty units but three times? Really!

  • Finally, I sell my tablet, and bought Dell venue 8pro. it absolutely works well. to be honest, extreme is good in performance, but the quality, fuxking AS policy, poor display, poor battery life should be fixed.

  • I am now about to return my second Slate 7 Extreme to HP as again the mini-usb has failed. Unit will not charge. Both tablets failed in this manner in about two months of average use. I guess HP feels they can just replace this thing every couple of months and I'll be happy. I am NOT. This has to be a known flaw in the design of this device. They should replace with another model of equal or greater value. I would not buy one of these!

  • Does not have a local service center. Don't buy if youre in Singapore!!! Bought one for my daughter last july. Was dropped a couple of times but functioned alright. Just last month, charging does not work so asked HP support for help. They wont replace it because of damage in case and they wont repair it either because the damage has voided warranty. I can't have it repaired either because they dont have a repair/service here locally. Just avoid the stress and dont buy this one. Go for more stable brands. Here is their last email to me: Dear Alex, Thank you for getting back to us. Alex, I understand your concen regarding the repair. Unfortunately, there is no repair center. Note: Please do not delete the reference number, when replying back to this email. Thank you for choosing HP. Have a nice day! Sincerely, Madhura HP Chat Support Team

  • You have to download app first. Go to google and download app. Also google how to and they will tell you.

  • I experience that case once, and I call the HP customer center and main center to fix my fuxking tablet.yeah, it's fixed for free. if The AS center will reguest you to purchase 70%, you should bother the HP and you make it for free.

  • Was looking for the Nexus 7 or Tegra Note 7, but since neither were available in my country at the time I settled on this one (since it is in a lot of ways just a Tegra Note 7 in disguise). Overall have been very happy with it. Its got plenty of grunt for gaming and yet to see it struggle with any task that I have given it. Overall I find it slick and very responsive compared to other tablets I looked at in the same price bracket. Like other posters, I have found that the battery life could be better, though having said that the interface does allow you adjust the number of cores running to help extend the life of the battery. Certainly gaming/movie watching or anything CPU intensive is going to eat through a battery but for general web surfing, e-books, music etc battery life is okay. The power plug is a bit sloppy, but putting it in on a slight angle gets it in nicely. I think it is a shame that this could not have been designed a bit better. GPS seems to struggle, compared to my Samsung Ace II it is slower to pickup satellites and hang onto them. If I was looking for a dedicated navigation unit I would consider an external GPS reciever or another tablet. It would be interesting to see if other users have this problem. Updates have been good at coming through, currently it is running 4.4.2. I did wonder if HP would be any good with the updates, but so far so good. So it would be fair to say I am a happy customer with this and have no buyers regret what so ever with it. Just a couple of niggles (GPS, battery life, and power socket), but the last two I was aware about when I purchased it. Bang per buck, a great tablet for the price.

  • Yes

  • You must root your device. Or do it on your computer. Otherwise it's not possible.

  • Further to my previous post (two posts down) my experience has gotten worse. Updated to KitKat, the tablet began to utilize its full power. However, it stopped charging. Returned under warranty to be told the issue isn't covered. Want me to pay 70 per cent of the tablet's cost to have it repaired. HP is an absolute joke.

  • According to androidpolice.com 4.4.2 update has come out fir hp slate 7 extreme! Yipee

  • I have mounted an SD card on the device but I can't move any data from the tablet to the card. Can anyone tell me how this can be done?

  • Owned the tablet for three months, here are my pros and cons: Pros: Light and portable. Stylus is great for writing and creating documents. When the hardware works it's fast and smooth. Cons: Battery life is just acceptable. 3-4 hours watching movies. USB port is difficult to connect to. Every time I try to connect I fear it's going to snap. USB port is also loose. Not a tight fit at all. The biggest disappointment is the usability of android. When waking up from lock mode it often takes several minutes to get up to speed, playing catch up with even basic requests. This also happens at random times. It also freezes from time to time. Some CPU intensive games refuse to work after a while. When on full power mode it refuses to charge, instead the battery drains slowly. For a tablet with Tegra 4 it is a real disappointment due to lag, freezing, battery and connection problems. I feel that many of these would be fixed if HP bothered to update android. Instead they took the design, threw it together, forgot about it and took the money. I would not buy this tablet again, or any HP for that matter.

  • Battery life is crap! 4100 mAh only gives me about three hours of full gaming. Good for performance, bad for hard core gaming.

  • does all game like asphalt 8,modern combat 4,fifa 14 work without any lags

  • is this thing creaky ?

  • which has a better gaming performace....slate 7 extreme or xolo tegra note???

  • In a different world, this tablet would rule. It has decent specs and a killer CPU. But this is just a rebranded Tegra note. By my exprience the reasons you should pick this tablet over the note are either if you're not using a case and hate the 'gamer' design or if you are an HP fanatic(everything's possible). Oh, and the stylus is better for writing but you can buy one with extra nibs if you're picky for 20$. Things that are the same: 1.Build quality. The sites that reviewed it apparently either got lucky or didn't pick their review units themselves. The tablet creaks and the micro USB is flimsy. Just like TN7. 2.Screen looks and feels the same. 3.Same specs - this is after all based on Nvidia's design. Things you lose for picking HP: 1.Bluetooth 3.0 instead of 4. 2.NO UPDATES. The TN7 already has Kitkat and seems like Nvidia are putting an effort in keeping support alive. HP? No updates whatsoever. HP made the tablet, packed, sent it and forgot about it. If there was no TN7 this would be a no brainer. But as it stands there is absolutely no reason to pay the same money for less.

  • Hey guys, I am wondering if this has a problem with its micro usb port. I read that it was hard to connect the cable into the port. Has it been resolve? Any user having this issue?

  • most of the nvidia note 7 tablets with tegra 4 have already updated to android 4.3 and 4.4 kitkat, this tablet is still running android 4.2.HP seems slow or uninterested in updating its products.this tablet has some issues in its touchscreen. sometimes it is not responsive and freezes.with android 4.2 this tablet have not reach its full potential as a high end tablet.

  • check this site for the antutu score

  • What is the antutu score of this tablet been searching in google cant find one. thanks

  • the one in lipa is only slate 7 not "slate 7 extreme"

  • nice...

  • it is only 7990 php in sm city lipa

  • hp philippines is over pricing products

  • It's actually quite sturdy. The screen is definitely not as good as that of the TN7 (2013) but still better than most tablets released by samsung. The lower resolution screen also consumes less power, so i think it's a plus. The back part feels more premium compared to TN7(2013) too.

  • I saw some units being sold at Festival Mall HP store. I think the units are bundled with an advance cover and an HP headset, hence the seemingly ridiculous price.

  • its over pricing... $199 in walmart so coverted to Php it should be 9k. plus in singapore it is 10k converted

  • It is already available in the Philippines. I saw one at SM Megamall in "PC Live" Cyberzone. It costs 13,990 PHP! I am interested on this! :)

  • eat ya nexus 7 2013. i agree it's a good tab but i think tegra 4 will perform better. i dnt believe in thoes scores on atuntu or any. tho they are almost accurate but real life performance differs. i was and is a user of sony xperia sola. but as at now it struggles to run well and all recent games even gta vc. i bought an asus fonepad 7 and the performance is outstanding. thou the asus nexus 7 2013, fonepad 7 and dis tosh tab are well fitted to run any thing on play store perfectly, i think they all futureproof but the tegra 4 tosh tops the table with a not too big margin. ENJOY YOUR MONEY! asus fonepad 7. still killin em! :)

  • Try to also consider other's budget. Of course nexus 7 is better. That is why there are price ranges that depends on the specs on every device.

  • anyone know how durable this is? i know its exactly the same product as tegra note 7 (with the exception of a different stylus tip (TN7's is better) and HP included some of their own apps; minor bloatware but nothing that you can't get over) i just wanna know how is the build quality? i wanna get a TN7 but its absolutely appalling and touch screens are malfunctioning left and right and people are finding pressure marks and the whole thing creaks with the slightest amount of pressure. if anyone gets their hand on this tablet could you please let us know about its durability? does it make any sorts of creaking noises with small pressures? how does the screen feel? etc... people with TN7 are saying that using the stylus with a little bit of pressure scratched the screen. i would get a TN7 but i don't trust the build quality. so someone please inform us on how decently its made? thanks! TL:DR - how good is the build quality? does it feel like it'll break break apart with the slightest amounts of pressure?

  • If this is going to be better. N7 2nd gen will be going better than this one. :D i dont like heating a lot in exchange to performance. heating a lot will affect the quality of device.

  • There's no way you can compare a snapdragon s4 pro with a tegra 4 Tegra 4 does heat a lot, but gives much better performance I do not believe in benchmarks, but since this will be based on aosp, I am pretty sure this is going to be better and more responsive as compared to n7 gen 2

  • try to compare this to asus google nexus 7 2nd gen nexus7 is better than this one. just add a little bit money for nexus than to this one. just sharing coz i want a best for you. ^__^

  • I have been waiting for a 7 inch device to have a Tegra 4 processor. Sure almost all tablets are the same but I need a tablet mostly for browsing and gaming purposes. That is why I think this tablet is made for me. Especially since its made by HP ;-)

  • EPIC Fail!!! HP should better offer windows 8 flavours and maintain its enterprise market. HP in consumer mobile market NO

  • Finally it has seen the light of the day as i have been waiting forever for this slickly designed beauty/ beast to be released. Tegra 4 here i come. HP Rocks! :)

  • Great Specs at very competitive price!! It will be a hard hit on the ass of profit hungry Samsung if launched in Asian Countries! Especially India!

  • When it will be available in philippines?

  • Good specs for a tablet.
