I have now used my HTC first for 4-5 months. If you are not into latest and greatest android then it is probably the best screen size phone for anyone. I needed: 1. Best speaker volume 2. Call recording 3. Stock android 4. Nice screen 5. Good battery backup 7. Tethering on Straight talk 6. Expandable storage Except for point 6, all other points are covered nicely by HTC first. I am hoping to buy a backup htc first in case. Pity that it didnt sell much otherwise we would have surely had kitkat ROMs for this by now. I switched to a HTC one, but the call /voice recording didnt happen well, so i gave that to my wife. For tethering on straight talk, i had to edit the telephony.db file and now i can enjoy 2.5 GB of monthly thethering on 4g LTE :-)

This is almost literally the perfect phone for me. The design is amazingly simple and minimal, which was one of the big things I was looking for. I also liked the idea of a "small" Android mid-range phone. Combine that with basically pure vanilla 4.1.2 Android, and it's a really sweet package. Although it only has a dual core processor, it seems to be fairly responsive and quick in most everything I've done with it so far. I had a Nexus 4 for a while last year, and the HTC First does have some noticeable lag/choppiness when it comes to things like Google Maps when compared to higher-end phones such as that. The camera is also slightly below par, although in my opinion, a lot of people are spoiled with phone cameras these days. Basically, what I mean by that is this: the camera on this might be noticeably worse than flagship device cameras, but it's also probably 200x better than the dumbphone camera I was using before. For my purposes, I pretty much just wanted a decent phone primarily for texting, calling, checking email, and the occasional web browsing or app usage. For the price (got it brand new for $135 on eBay), I think this is one of the best phones out there, especially if you're looking for a phone with vanilla Android. It's just a shame that it was never successful on the market. Now the only thing is to port newer versions of Android to it, and maybe try to fix the camera through software tweaks. Even without those things, though, I would definitely recommend the HTC First.

Chacha and Salsa had facebook keys(button) which was a little annoying.But they had Sense UI. Chacha sold well because it was a qwerty android phone .While salsa was a touch phone. In this htc first there is no sense UI.It has only facebook UI, turning it into a facebook gadget, not the typical htc android.You can disable the facebook UI. But you will get only the stock android UI, not the sense UI .

Great phone! Excited to check it out when it gets here in the Phils. I like the fact that one can still launch android apps while on cover feed and that FB notifications will still be prompted even when using other apps. The 16gb internal memory may not be enough though. It should have a built in SD card slot.

Its a shame how they are launching phones with blazing fast processors and only about ~10 GB Internal memory and no Card slot... I bet u wont even be able to record a few hours of 1080p video on this device if u have a few games and like a few thousand pics that u have clicked over a few months

I've seen several utube vids demo the fb home launcher and it looks ok if ur lost in the fb universe :) but what about using the htc 1st as a phone, like sms and calling? i see no dialer or sms app anywhere. it's probably hidden deep in the menues and will be a hassle to get to. but then again, if ur so into the fb, u don't need to call or sms ppl outside the fb universe :)

I agree with you htc haven't got a good speced midrange phone.for example One S has low internal memory nor it is expandable. Other midrangers either don't have compass , front cam etc. The only near perfect phones of htc available in India now are the high end models htc one+ and butterfly. hTC didnt even bring One SV a mid ranger, to India which has almost high specs what other midrangers of htc lack,like compass, front cam, gorilla glass MSD slot. HTc first is actually meant for face book lovers. It doesn't have the great sense UI but facebook home UI, Which though can be disabled to get the stock android UI. but stock UI is nothing compared to the amazing Sense UI.

If anything tthat's remarkable (a non nexus running stock) and makes it pretty unique and probably the most attractive HTC to my eyes. Great and elegant phone. Good specs: battery mAh is above average for a 4.3" display. Good ppi, faster Processor etc. But the camera should have been upto 8MP. All the same, I like the phone. I cant wait to own it

Orkut is no more ,One day will come for facebook too. Then this phone becomes freak and useless. HTC you should bring Good speced mid range phones to the global market soon. Replace ONE S with a high spec phone having 16 GB internal memory with a Micro sd card slot. I have been for a good midrange phone for more than 3 years. htc didn't bring bring the midrange ONE SV to India . HTC... Bring a good mid ranger soon.
