i have had used this phone for three years , it never gave me any problem eccept frezing when i add videos in phone memory.factory reest was never a problem it never required a hard factory reset only through a normal procedure.

This phone is rubbish. STAY AWAY. It is the very poor cousin of the Nokia Lumia 900, which is a much better phone. This phones only advantage over the 900 is that its sd compatible the 32gb. That's it. Beats audio is ok nothing more. Internal memory is around 4gb but around half of that is taken up by the system, and if you have temp files on your phone good luck trying to get rid, i have 350mb of them that wont leave. I bought this phone to replace my lumia 900 because of a cracked screen. From the moment i used the 8s i know i had wasted my money.

My cha cha was real cool but for that feedback that not enough space when you have virtually less apps,reporting error,error thus you not being able to enjoy your phones features makes it suck,don't know abt the HTC8 as it was just gifted me,but a few folks are complaining here n there abt the HTC8's abilities,i pray it doesn't happen as i am very sure the developers of this pretty phones may have heard the complains and improved upon it

I got this phone for Christmas and i hate it! Its has an awesome slick design but that's all it has going for itself. There is a horrible range of apps available. The ones that is on it (viber) doesn't even work properly, it always freezes, says "error occurred" a billion times. I'm,not able to download anymore apps because it keeps saying "error occurred" and everytime i try to do anything my phone says "not enough memory, please clear space" even though i only have 3 apps other then the ones that are already on it. The system takes up 3 gb of the 4gb of storage on the phone.,i have a micro sd card in it but i can only save pictures and music to it. The speakers on it are terrible the sound is muffled. Its gorilla glass isn't as strong as its made out to be. Fell out,of my pocket and the whole screen is cracked and a chunk of the bottom came off. I would not buy this phone or recommend it to a friend. Maybe i just had bad luck with it but ive had a horrible experience with it!

You may consider using Micro SD class 10. I have one, it's not so much, 8 GB, but it works great. I've updated phone from 8.0 to 8.1 version, and now I'm very satisfy with the phone. It's much better than android. But this is my, personal, opinion. Only, missed call, message, etc. is missing.

I have used this phone for few months. Many problems occurred. The windows phone apps are limited and sucks. I downloaded line and all the messages sent by the official accounts are always not supported by this phone. The phone hangs alot and I have to press the power off for few seconds for it to restart. The power off key is going to spoil and I didn't do anything to it. The memory can only afford a few apps. Overall this is a bad phone.

U have this phone for about one and half year. It is beautiful design, it runs wery fast, dont have lags and blocks. Every app or game I have installed works fine. I instal wp 8.1 one mount ago, and it is great. Now apps and games can be installed on memory card, which is great. Only problem is, there is no Cortana for htc outside US, no meter what do( change regional setings, language or keyboard).

This is one the worst phones I have ever purchased. The problems are driving me crazy. Every time I copy a new file, there are multiple copies of the same. I am not able to make a single software update because there is an unknown "other" folder that takes up 1.8 GB. I cannot access phone memory from any desktop, and I have tried it on Windows 7 and 8, and even XP. The keypad suddenly stops functioning leaving me unable to call and disconnect calls. The phone has now started heating up, for no obvious reason. The worst thing is that I have not been able to install a single app, as only 10 MB storage is available. That means I can't update my software, back up anything or do the normal things that everyone is supposed to do with a smart phone like this one. I constantly keep getting 800703,8007032, 8007043 error messages, and the even the HTC guys have no idea what that is. I have made a very very big mistake by buying this phone, and I will never buy a Windows phone again.

Now you can install your apps in the SD card which is a huge plus considering the 8S has only 4GB of internal storage.

Well, I had very few apps installed since its my backup phone. But I did factory reset after the update was complete so start from scratch. But if you wipe the phone and it stays on the HTC logo for over 10 min, just press the power button and turn it off and back on. And it will power on as new. After that I set everything to the SD Card, and you can install so much more that way, it doesn't use the internal memory at all!

I have this phone as a backup one, but I recently updated it to Windows Phone 8.1 and it acted like it was on steroids! Phones flies and the biggest issue I had with it was the low ''apps storage'' but on 8.1 you can install directly to the SD Card. It felt like giving a second life to it hehehe.

I've had the Windows Phone 8S for 16 months, and I cannot wait for my contract to expire. This phone is truly terrible. The screen is incredibly brittle and without extreme care can leave it smashed. It's storage capabilities are diabolical, as the operating system takes up half of the phones storage, with most of the other half taking up the rest. This leaves you with no space to perform OS updates. The battery life is poor. Even without using it for 24 hours, you will find yourself needing to whack it on charge after just 8. That brings me to the speed of the phone itself. Put bluntly, its shit. Browsing on WiFi takes an absolute age, and flicking between pages on the Home Screen takes equally as long. If you're considering buying this phone for the long term, stop, because you will only find yourself in the same position as me. Best bet is to avoid buying this phone entirely, but for a short term, it'll do. That is if the short term is say 12 hours.

After using this phone for months, i have to say, this is an amazing phone considering its price. And it is a great smartphone overall without a doubt. Here is my conclusion: -Good: . Great design, feel amazing in hand . Great system OS overall, smooth and working apps well . Amazing battery life, better than any other android devices that i used to have. Easily 1 day, by 1 day i mean 24hours. I can use it for 2 days with less time playing games(trust me i use it alot) . Multimedia is good, Video recording is decent, playing HD videos easily, beataudio is fantastic -Bad: .Internal memory is a frustiating trouble, only more than 1gb for you to install apps. I really hope that 8.1 version will allow you install apps on sd card. For now that the only thing that bother me about my favorite HTC 8S. . Text messaging is not good I hope my personal experiment can help someone, for now i think i could stick with 8S for a long time, maybe break my record and become the longest phones ive ever used. Sorry i have to say this, I have no respect for people who said this phone's battery life is bad, they actually dont know anything and dont even have the phone. 2 most important things i love about this phone are the design and the battery life. Nuff said.

This phone is not recommended at all. I have been using this for 7 months now and I have gone to HTC agent in Singapore 6 times for repair and in the last 6 weeks, I have been 4 times!!!! The phone get stuck and automatically shuts off!!! Then I cant switch it on again!!! This is the worst smart phone I have ever used. No memory at all, very bad battery life, cant save apps on to memory chip and windows mobile platform is a piece of garbage!!!! I don't recommend this phone and with windows!!! Its not 4G ready. It is always low on memory !! Out of 4GB internal memory, u are hardly left with one GB as rest of the memory is used by WIN OS. Also WIN apps take a lot of memory and keep on consuming memory after install. If you plan to download maps, you are done with your memory. Nither would you be able to download offline maps even for a specific country completly due to insufficient memory, nor would there be any space left for anything else. They(WIN) have NO way to route this memory need to SD card. Hence, you are left with practically NO memory. I have only a few apps and still its out of memory. Battery is also pathetic.I need to charge atleast twice a day, that too with basic usage !! This phone ONLY looks good. Its COMPLETE waste of your valuable money. Its way too better to get a basic model of Anderoid instead of this. Win really needs to work very hard !! It NO where, absolutely NO where close to Anderoid or iOS.

I have this phone for around 3 months,is very smooth,very beautiful design,good photo camera,and it have the useful apps (facebook,twitter,instagram,skype,whatsupp,viber­,kik messenger,yahoo messenger,youtube,those are the apps that i'm using).The problem ,as everybody say,is with memorry space,i do not recomand it if you want a phone for games,and the problem is not really a big problem,because are temporary files,when it runs out of memmory it autorealease 100-300 mb free space.You can use phone mem for apps and a micro sd card for music/photos.Another problem is the folder "Other" who will use around 500-800 mb if you let it,and you will never know whats there,you can "cheat" it with shrink storage to keep used some mb,and when you want to install an app just release some space from shrink.So i recomand HTC 8s for the posibility of using a micro sd card up to 32 GB.If you choose Nokia Lumia 520 you will have 8 GB internal but no micro sd card,so you're fucked when your folder "other" will use 5-7 Gb,I own HTC 8s,for any questions about this one kik: ph10rin .I hope my comment will be useful for you guys...

Honestly, this phone has came with so many problems I wish I had never bought it. The layout is nice, and I love the start screen, but a week after buying the phone was crippled. I don't know why, but the overall performance of the phone deteriorated over a couple of days until 40% of websites would not load on internet explorer, the phone would turn off and on randomly, I would get notifications for no reason, videos and music wouldn't play without stopping constantly, and it would say I had reached storage limit when I hadn't. This is not an isolated case, as the two people I know have experienced similar problems. Do NOT buy without a warranty.

I had same problem. Instead of loading your music to the phone by usb, take your memory card out, put it in your computer, transfer music to card then put it back in phone. This worked for me.

Gyus I have a HUGE problem, whenever I upoload song from my computer to the 8S every 10 days or so they multiply. For example if I upoload a song today, then 10 days after I'll have this song twice, then three times and so on.. Also whenever I delete those copies the song won't play.

My guess would be that it did'nt come with the software for the radio. You may have download an app that has FM radio capabilities.

Dislike this phone. Not only have I been having problems with the software and glitches as soon as I've gotten it, factory resetted it four times and sent it in for repair, still having problems. SD card is basically useless unless you have a lot of photos and music, app store is limited, settings are very basic and I'm having a lot of issues with the memory. No way to clear "other space" which gets eaten up like no tomorrow, and of course the SD card does not help. Took me a while to find an SD card that worked with this phone, too.

the download speed is not determined by ur phone, it is determined by the speed of ur home broadband or by the connection to 3/4g....and on certain network (ie o2) once u hit a certain amount data they will start to slow ur internet speed down so that u cant go over ur limit. hope this helps

Nice idea dude.. Lol... My Lumia 520 with 8GB internal is almost out of memory even though I have nothing in internal memory except apps and games. Its coz windows apps size is relatively higher than Android and IOS versions. Just look at Where is my water 2 game. In iPhone its installed size is only around 90 MB but in windows phone it's about 780MB. That makes a huge difference. Besides this the Other Storage and Temporary files problems are not yet fixed. So its almost impossible to survive with a 1.5 GB user available memory in this phone

Its not possible you can put the installation file in SD card just like we are using a CD or DVD for software installation in computer. But the app get installed only in phone memory... Its a drawback of windows phone 8 OS and besides this, there is Other storage problem. its an unknown storage area filled up with unknown data, no way to recover this space. These two problems making even an 8 GB windows phone struggle with memory problems.

So, at first I was impressed. Light, great screen and just a good phone. Then things started to annoy me after a week. You don't know when you have received a text as it doesn't flash. Then i noticed that people calling me couldn't hear me even with a full signal and with their voice as clear as a bell. The memory is filled quickly and you cannot delete it without resetting the phone. I find texting hard and now the sound has gone completely. This phone is only 5 months old. So disappointed and i wouldn't recommend it. Will be going back to my good old Nokia :)number

What are you trying to prove?? My question is how to manage with a 4 GB internal memory 1.9GB Goes for System files 500+ MB goes for Other storage and Temporary files. the remaining memory space is not sufficient for installing HD games like Asphalt heat, Six Guns etc. And you can't even download a big size file. This phone sucks as long as Windows phone OS supports installation of apps only in phone memory and other storage problem get solved. This thing makes Lumia 520 is a better choice.

Truly disappointed in software-Win8. Hardware is cool and neat but the os is just baaaad. If given the opportunity I could design something better alone during my lunch hour! Dear Hardik, Its a nice phone. If you like tinkering with your phone go for Android OS ones as those have Custom ROMs (warranty goes) and alternate desktops etc. Remember android has a better app market. Absolute worst phone I've ever had, nothing but issues. Problems after problems after problems. Firstly, the thing that bugs me the most, is the HORRIBLE messaging problems. Constantly turning the phone on and off so my messages can be sent and received, phone has turned off for no reason and not turned back on for hours, only until I did a hard reset on it. Constant dropped calls, no good apps, stupid design. All together a bad phone. WOULD NOT RECOMMEND.

Absolute terrible, do not purchase this piece of rubbish. £160 for a phone that has a screen that cracks IN UNDER 24HRS, this is a fee of £80 to have fixed. The space is poor and it can't run most of the good apps *cough* Halo: Spartan Assault *cough*. Will never be buying another Windows or HTC phone after this appalling device.

Absolute rubbish is a polite way to describe this bit of junk. With the combination of a touch screen and side buttons everytime you pick it up something gets altered. Battery life is poor looking forward to hitting it with a big hammer in the near future. Its even more of a naff brand than Samsung which takes some beating :)

This phone has been a nightmare! Only three short weeks after I got it, it had dropped out of my purse, less than 3 feet, with a hard protective case, picked it up and what do ya know, screen was cracked. It should have been able to withstand that fall. I use this phone very minimal because of its short battery life. It only lasts maybe 8 hours basically on standby with only making a few calls, sending a few texts and reading emails. So if you're a heavy user, I do not recommend this phone at all. Another problem is that there are hardly any known apps, and hardly any apps at all. I understand that when using this phone, you don't need any spyware because Microsoft is so specific and diligent when it comes to adding new apps but it would be nice if the store had more things. And with the very few apps that I do have, memory is already full and you cannot use a memory card in this phone. I like the design and the 4 inch screen is sufficient but to me, the layout is just boring. Also from day one, there is a 3 second delay when opening the camera and taking a picture. After my third day with this phone, I had to take it back to the store because it froze and there is no way to take the battery out or no reset pin hole. They couldn't have put in the manual, hey if the phone freezes, press home and on/off button for 5 seconds while plugged into the charger? The man at the store new right away what he had to do to fix the phone. I think that means something.. sounds like I wasn't the first person to come in there with that problem. Windows, you have a long way until you become like the Iphone.. Better get to it. In the mean time, I'm gooing back to android :)

The battery life is not that bad, but could be better for sure. I use internet a lot (data connection is always on) withstand about 2 days. If you don't text via facebook all the time by your phone, then, i suppose you can turn off the data, and turn on battery saver and by doing that you will get more or less 3 days depending on your texting and calling habits.

The screen broke within 2 months. It wasn't even dropped or mishandled in any way. Had it in my front pocket and the next thing I know - the screen had cracks all over. The only Pro: Windows 8 is awesome! It's sad that Microsoft is teaming with third-rate vendors for their hardware.

I would say they are similar. The only thing that makes nokia unique are its Nokia apps (smart shoot and cinemagraph) plus it was release 4 months ago. Although it lacks a flash and more juice to its battery. Oh and the back cover is exchangeable :-) Hope that helps to your question Cheers!

I just bought this phone after reading all of your hateful comments and reviews. In the past years I owned many phones from Windows Mobile (like the Xperia X1) to android phones like HTC Desire HD, Galaxy I9000, and even linux phones like Nokia N900. I am really excited about this phone just because it's Windows (I am a proud owner of a Windows 8 Notebook and one Windows 8 Tablet). When to choose this phone I had to choose between a Galaxy S2 PLUS, an LG L5 II and HTC 8s, and after testing in the store every one of those models I chose the Windows 8 phone. Why? Because it's Windows 8, so I can easily sync it with my laptops, and just because I saw how reliable can a Windows 8 be (even the support, and yes, I own licenses, I don't cry over a broken cracked Windows downloaded over torrent). First look. A well built, solid device, a device that is so comfortable to hold in hand and use it, made out of polycarbonate and Gorilla Glass. I turned the screen on and the screen and OS was very responsive and smooth. Ok, this is the phone I am going to buy (this after testing the other 2 models and be very disappointed). I bought it, I bought some extras like an original case and 2 screen protectos and got home. Home, I set up my accounts. Everything synced up perfectly, no problems, I installed the apps I need (and YES I found everything I need) and i got the error that I was starting to run low on internal memory. Okay, no problem here, got on the market again, downloaded a tool to clean up my memory, and it worked perfect. I have now 200MB free (yes that's enough for any update) and all the personal data, like documents, music, pictures, I store them on a 4GB SD Card (going to get a 16GB soon). After that, I updated the OS (no problems because of memory) downloaded some keyboards, some languages and the my country map, and guess what, still ~200MB FREE! After setting everything up, I started testing the browser, it's fast and smooth (not like android), tested the phone functions and I got crystal clear sound, and tested the music/video player and it's perfect, the Beats Audio makes the sound so perfect even on the stock headset. Tested the phone after a full charge on a 1:30h phone conversation and only 3% battery lost, so it's perfect. So: Pros: -Beats audio, the sound quality -Built-in apps match all smartphones needs (using the market is optional) -Internet speed -Ringtone loudness -Interface (it's simple, easy to customize) -Intuitive (easy to use) -Easy to sync with your Windows8 PC -Design: solid and smooth at the same time, a hard to obtain combination -Powerful hardware and an OS that knows how to use the given hardware (not like Android, which needs more and more, and why, just for the looks?) -Perfect phone Cons: -Low on memory, meaning you REALLY need an SD card to store music, photos, videos and documents -Beats audio don't work over bluetooth (and this is also a pro, meaning the Beats audio is hardware, not a piece of software) Well that's about it. I don't blame you, yes, Android is more customizable, but it's also full of bugs. I hated the stock os, then I go root, and I don't think it passed 1 month and I need to reinstall Android or change it (tryed Cyanogen, MIUI and other user made fw's and none of them were perfect). I saw that former Apple users appreciate this phone, just because THEY KNOW HOW A FUNCTIONAL PHONE LOOKS LIKE!

its a good set but the major problem is on board/internal memory which is 4gb only and user available is only 1.4gb which is mostly occupied by other files of wp8 OS. so only and major problem any one face with this set is shortage of memory for installing apps.... thats why this set sucks

This phone is very good but I expected it to load web pages faster than it did running windows phone 8. This device managed to survive me accidently knocking it into the sink with no damage but I did quickly dry it. This is also surprisenly drop resistant for a htc phone once surviving falling onto concrete from a good 6 feet. I like the ralitively good battery life for a smartphone as well.

I have had this phone about 4 months now and it is horrible. Do not recommend. The display is visually appealing at first, but without much of an option to customize it, I'm already bored. The memory it terrible and the internet crashes constantly. The only thing I've grown to count on from this phone is the knowledge that I will have to restart it at least once a day just to send messages. Thanks for nothing windows. Can't wait to get rid of this piece of crap.

Software: What can I say�windows has a history of making boring, unimaginative and the least user friendly operating systems since the dawn of desktop computing. For its mobile version, again I must say it is one of the prettiest OS on a hand held but also equally the least functional, the size of the OS is a massive 2GB?!!! On a phone that has 4GB (3.81 user space) of onboard space. To top it all it creates 1GB of files that you can�t remove and labels it, in true microsoft style, OTHERS. This leaves barely any space for any apps(I use Facebook, linked in, couple of games, Skype,)lyrics, dropshot apart from the bundled software that it came with)�with a strategy like that, no wonder they have the shittiest app store. Now with the new update out today, you have to reformat your phone to make 435mb of space to install it. I remember the days of android 1.6 where the ROM was a hardware limitation and one could only install softwares on the phone memory. A very frustrating experience that was thankfully rectified by an app by the name APP2SD freeing up precious space on you phone and liberating you from the tyranny of low memory space warnings. Microsoft, exercising better judgement has created its mobile software in the image (and size) of its desktop avatar�.lazy buggers�incompetence and laziness, a winning combination when you target a product for the masses�after all that�s what we all are� Hardware: Gorilla glass prone to scratches and marks but this let down is nothing to the soft touch plastic finish�beware, this is not a finish as much as it is a coating, which has the following drawbacks: It stains It peels off�exposing shiny plastic underneath (blue, in my case) It is the technological equivalent of Hansen�s Disease (Leprosy)�I hope they find a cure to that soon� All in all, its the worst smartphone experience ever�it has the technology of the now but designed to perform a decade older�Usually one learns from others mistakes, things evolve and new technology should better if not match the current paradigm. Microsoft has decided that it will make the same journey of evolution that other OS�s did to reach some semblance of usable which, judging by its efforts so far, can be a while. Currently the OS is still a monkey.

Just went from a HTC Trophy to 8S. Comparatively size and weight are excellent, screen is not as sensitive and accurate, camera is rubbish... don't expect good quality. Trophy had a macro setting and was incredible for a phone camera but 8S is 5MP and no extra settings. OS is not much different from 7 to 8. IE crashes regularly back to home screen. Sometimes freezes on call screen while trying to hang up. Very small inbuilt memory... took about 4 videos around 5 mins each and the phone repeatedly went to the phone storage screen advising me of what little space it has... so definitely get a microSD as soon as you buy this phone. Overall it's at the lower than average end of the smartphone quality and feature spectrum.

Sadly. You can not install apps or games on micro sd card. So if your phone mem ran out of space you have to choose which apps or games you should delete so that you may install the new one. Very frustrating. Only photos, music, videos and docs can save on mem card.

Can anybody tell me the battery life of htc 8s. Mine it only takes a day when i do browsing and texting. I fell that something is wrong with my battery. Also i can't send a text message to multiple recipients at same time. Two or more recipients my message will failed. Only one at time. Bought the 8S htc Windows phone few months ago. it is terrible in terms of total storage capacity, it has only 4GB which is not enough. the operating system with the standard applications takes more then 3 GB and the remaining storage is not sufficient for personal data. I have installed additional SD card but it does not accept application or phone data, it is only for music, vids and photos; so its not helpful to upgrade the system total storage for e-mails, contact and applications. Now my phone crashes very frequently and does not even accept to dial numbers because of limited storage. The camera is poor specially with law lighting intensity.

Bought 8S fiesta red a month ago. Its really awesome. Built quality is amazing. Windows phone OS is also quite brilliant. Some drawbacks as well, despite of setting SD card as default memory, files received through Bluetooth gets saved in phone memory. No renaming option for any files. For every editing reason, it prompts to connect to the PC. These are the drawbacks of Windows phone not of HTC. HTC has disappointed by putting a low quality camera, though it says 5MP, its almost like a VGA.

I have had this phone for a few months and it is very nice, there are not very many flaws to this phone a few like a 5.0 megapixle camera but if this is your first smart phone then it could be the one for you it is very nice and up to date. If you have already had a smart phone i recomend you dont get this phone cause it just can't contend with phones like the Gs3 and other high value smart phones such as that. However if u still want a windows 8 phone and have already had a smart phone I would go for the lumia 920 or the HTC windows phone 8x. the 8s has a great look and feel to it and runs on a very good hardware the movments on the phone are flush and smooth. So if you are a first timer on getting a smart phone I recomend the Windows phone 8s.

We have been issued these phones for business as apparently Windows8 has the best encryption for mobile. What a shame they forgot about pretty much every other aspect of building a smartphone. Most of the inbuilt software is poor (Phone, Maps, People, Calendar, Music, Messaging)or pointless (Wallet, OneNote). And you can't delete these Apps which means there's no space to install better versions (it doesn't seem possible to install them to SD) even if there were any in the very limited App store. Updating the OS required me to uninstall the few decent Apps I had found. Probably just as well I don't have many apps as there's no way to organise them other than in an alphabetically scrolling list or on a single vertically scrolling homepage. Few of the live tiles do anything useful, music syncing (with my Windows PC) is chaotic and Bing is the mandatory search engine - it's awful. Please would Google add encryption to Android!!

8s is a shit phone...have been using it for the last 4 months..heres my take.. Software: What can I say�windows has a history of making boring, unimaginative and the least user friendly operating systems since the dawn of desktop computing. For its mobile version, again I must say it is one of the prettiest OS on a hand held but also equally the least functional, the size of the OS is a massive 2GB?!!! On a phone that has 4GB (3.81 user space) of onboard space. To top it all it creates 1GB of files that you can�t remove and labels it, in true microsoft style, OTHERS. This leaves barely any space for any apps(I use Facebook, linked in, couple of games, Skype,)lyrics, dropshot apart from the bundled software that it came with)�with a strategy like that, no wonder they have the shittiest app store. Now with the new update out today, you have to reformat your phone to make 435mb of space to install it. I remember the days of android 1.6 where the ROM was a hardware limitation and one could only install softwares on the phone memory. A very frustrating experience that was thankfully rectified by an app by the name APP2SD freeing up precious space on you phone and liberating you from the tyranny of low memory space warnings. I already have a Iphone 5. The music volume through the headphones is not very loud. The Iphone 4 and 4s was better. So am looking really for a spare phone just for the gym and running with loud volume through the headphones. I use to have the Nokia N91 and that was amazing. htc 8s and 8x sound identical loud and clear. personally i think even 8s have built-in beats amplifier like 8x, it sounds too good. both htc models are muuuch louder and better than all ipads and all iphones, (wich were the reference,the best music devices until now...). practically, htc with beats custom amplifier built-in is now very close to the supreme performance of nokia n91 with harman-kardon headphones amplifier. i use sony xb 500 and 700 on htc 8x. it is smashing!!

I have recently had HTC 8S and had various problems with it. I had done some research on the phone as I wanted to personalise the voice tones and the text tones. The manual suggested you could have custom ringtones and as HTC produces Android Phones which can have voice call tones and text tones of your own choice I naturally assumed this would be the case with the 8S. When trying to put ringtones on the phone I found HTC had their own equivalent of Zune and this would allow ringtones to be put on the phone if set under the ringtone option and this would then sync to the phone and would then appear as custom ringtones. This allowed voice call ringtones but its impossible to have custom text tones on the 8S and 8X which was confirmed by HTC via Facebook. This and other problems made me take my phone back to Phones 4U who allowed me to choose another phone instead and I went for Android. I would not reccomend these phones.

no question about it.. the lumia is a better buy. you get quad band 3g, you get a clear black display which is far superior than HTC's screen.. you get 8GB memory (rather than 4GB), you get dolby enhanced sound, and of course you get a better quality phone (HTC's quality is a joke). oh yea, the nokia will hold better resale value too. the best thing about the HTC is the better battery life. But nokia also load up thier phone with better customized apps including nokia's maps and GPS (which is the best known in the market).

I prefer the 8s to the Nokia 620. I tried both, and for me the secondary cam and the NFC are not that important. But battery backup is the most important. 1700mAh vs 1300mAh. Also the 8s features gorilla glass and a four inch screen. Design is also better on the 8s. But where HTC fails is the user memory. But installing a micro sd card to put your files beside apps will resolve this problem. Also one thing that I think will be a problem is when using apps on the Nokia 620, is the battery. Although it has a bigger internal memory, using apps will reduce the battery real quick. Pros of the Nokia 620: -NFC -Secondary Cam -Nokia apps -8GB internal memory Pros of HTC 8s: -Better design and build quality -Four inch screen with gorilla glass -Beats audio and some HTC apps(fails compared to that of Nokia) In the end, no matter what you buy, beside the above differences, the experience will be mostly the same.

Second is the phone size, Lumia can be expected to be more sturdy but looking at the overall Lumia series it might be bulky as others.. The battery of the phone is better compared to other windows/android devices with similar display sizes/specifications... The big plus is the design of the phone, sleek and light it is.. Better than most of the phones out there... Camera is okayish.. Though specification wise it does not compare with Lumia 820, I haven't found its performance lagging anywhere so far... Another plus is the audio output of the phone, the sound in headphones is amazing.. One minus would be the internal memory, you get 1.6 GB to use for apps/games (Media can be stored on SD), which might be a little less if you are fond of using too many apps... My mate returned his as he only got 1.2GB out the box and ran out of storage fast..This phone is unusable for any app fans...Just because it has micro sd you cannot put maps texts emails apps or anything W8 related on it..The card is for video/mp3/pics/vids.. For all those about to buy this phone,think twice.Great design,great looking phone,nice handset.Performs ok,but as it has windows it blocks often.Huge phone memory problem.4 gigs of internal sonds little but as you have microsd you could think its a probleam you cand deal with,actually ,no.On the sd card you can store only pics,vids,an music,you can't install any program.The intarnal memorry is very used.About 1.5Gb left in to use.But this is only at the beginning.As deays go by somehow a "onther"folder getts bigger,and bigger(problem you can't solve )and you will remain with abou 300-200Mb left for apps.My advice is for you to go for an android solution,S3mini for ex,not that good looking but certainly smarter.

Dont rely on rating its an awesome phone. Built quality is outstanding and its better than lumia 620.lumia 620 just look like a plastic toy. There are some more features on L620 as nfc, front cam and compass. But these all not the essential things for mobile. I just love the design of htc 8s and its really a smooth wp8.

Had this phone a couple of days now. Windows Phone 8 is fast and amazing. Some drawbacks of 7.5 have been impoved. So now there are resizable homescreen tiles, bluetooth file transfer and usb mass storage mode. The built quality is excellent. Grip is very good because of the soft rubbery back. Camera is acceptable for everyday use. Generally its beautiful, solid, fast and pleasant to use. Battery life is ok also. Drawbacks for me are 1. the lack of front camera 2. lack of good exclusive applications. If you have the budget go for a lumia 820 or 920. If you dont want to spend much, this phone is a good choice.

Perform a reset to clean up all the memory and then install all the apps from the sd card. Despite having 4Gb of internal memory from which 2Gb are reserved for the OS if you download common apps and keep photos, music on the sd card this phone is a good choice considering the price.

I also like this phone and did some research, seems like this memory issue bothers many people but I read something useful. Try to download the apps first to sd card and then install them from there. You will save a lot of space using this metod. Otherwise a good phone I think.

i had this phone recently.. My only concern is the internal storage. Its so limited. I cant even manage it. There is no download or file manager to erase the temp files or cache. Everytime i download an app or uninstall. The phone memory never goes up! You cant even store app in the SDcard. Everyting works fine for me, the UI, Battery, music but not the storage! So dissapointing! :(

Hello, the app sizes vary, usually well developed games can take up to 45MB but on the contrary, majority of the apps are well under 10MB and these are the apps I use the most. E.g. BBC news, SkyDrive, simple fun games, useless but fun apps etc. I even have offline maps downloaded for the UK (250MB), which is a great feature on WP8. So app storage shouldn't be a problem for majority of the people. Thanks, JeffJ

Hi Cows, I have not tried the car charging so I don't know about that sorry. But for the bing problem you seem to be facing, for me, I search for something on bing, click on the link and yes it opens in IE. But, should i want to go back to bing, its simply the case of pressing the back button. Also in the IE settings, you can have new links open in a new tab, so that your current page is not over written. As for bing voice search, I find it pretty good even though my accent isn't perfect. Hi Raj, The internal memory is a weakness, although the phone has 4gb of space, around 3 GB is taken up by the OS, so you only have 1GB space for apps. BUT this phone does have a MicroSD Card slot so all your multimedia can go there, interms of apps, I have an offline map of uk downloaded (250MB) but still has around 350MB of app data (already have alot of apps installed). I believe in the future Windows Phone 8 will get a software update to let apps be installed on a memory card (just my thoughts). Thanks Jeff

I am not a big fan of Google search either but I found that Bing search failed to let you open links in a new tab. Somehow the search results weren't actually in the browser, it was weird. The result was having to go back and forth deciding what was the best link. Going back and forth on the 8S is an issue in itself. I liked the fact that Bing had no missleading advertising links (as Google has) but I found the number of hits returned to always be very small and not being able to explore links in separate tabs was really frustrating. The audio Bing search was useless as it just misinterpreted everything. I find that feature really useful with Google. I really liked the picture search pages so it was a shame that it had those functional issues. In the longer term I would say that Bing will be better then Google search on a mobile device but they have a bunch of issues to fix.

I own an HTC 8S since Christmas and it has some flaws. Win8 OS is really good and smooth and easy to use. Design is quite good, except that I couldn't open the lid on the back to put my sim and sd card in. Beats audio is perfect to my ears. Battery is out within a day, even in the power-saving mode and this is very unpleasant. The camera button wasn't responsive at some point and so did the Internet Explorer -I was really disappointed. I expected perfectness from HTC...

Hi all, I bought this phone with orange for a very good price (PAYM). It's my first Windows Phone (migrated from Android). I absolutely love it!, it operates very smoothly, efficient and no flaws at all. (Whatsapp did crash a few times, I think that's a bug with the app). I love the WP8 OS. The maps loads very well and scrolling and panning with no lag. Syncs very nicely with your Microsoft account (I also have Win8). Messaging is very cool, can message fb contacts and others from the same interface, can switch between text/fb straight away etc. Bing search is very efficient and good. Yes, the phone has only 512MB RAM but that shows no signs of a weakness to me. I play all sorts of games on the phone, listen to music, skydrive, take photos etc no problems. Switching between/loading apps doesn't have lag. And the phone fits really well in the hands and the 4.0" screen is perfect. The last thing (there are many more amazing things i like about this phone) is, the battery life. Does take some time to get charged from 99%-100% (maybe 20 mins or so) but it lasts for a long time. I have no power saver on, and a white theme so it's quite inefficient yet, it lasts me a whole day. Very happy with the phone, OS and the price :) GL Happy new Year.

Don't be fooled into thinking that having low RAM and being entry level just means you can't install as many apps. I ownded an 8S and the screen responsiveness and accuracy is quite poor. If PH8 had an hour glass when the system was busy and unresponsive then that hour glass would be on on the 8S more often and for longer than you would think. Maybe HTC's marketing department wanted to make absolutley that the phone was inferrior to the 8X but the end result imo is that the 8S is a complete dud. Add the navigation issues, system setting quick access issues, limited market issyes and really poor browsing issues of WP8 and it really was the worst smart phone I ever owned.

The phone is a good entry level device, but the limited memory for apps means you need to be selective with what you download. The SD card is ONLY for music, videos and pictures - it does not store Excel or Word files. All in all its a simple phone that offers a basic experience of Windows 8 mobile, but I like that and it does everything I want it to.

Don't even think to buy one. I've got my 8S for a couple of days. Installed essential apps and now I am almost out of space. 2gb goes to system, 300Mb apps, 'Other' folder eats rest - 1200 mb. And SD Card is only for media, you cannot install apps there or even download maps there. Microsoft software ruined otherwise nice phone.

I own the HTC 8S but am an Xperia P fan :) The 8S can't browse. Read my comments below the review page. Reflow awful, speed awful, features awful. If battery is an issue then buy a (now much cheaper) GS2. I don't think I have recommened a Samsung before but it is a good screen (AMOLEDplus) with a good battery. Feel free to ask questions on the 8S. It is really really nice looking and feeling hardware but the OS UI and apps are a let down. Bad bad browsing.

I got this mobile two days back. Basically it is a good phone. It is much better than Lumia 800. Whatsapp notifications and the app itself works fine. No more lag. It is fast and better. I can watch youtube videos without any lag. I got it at 418 Singapore dollars. Good item at a reasonable price.

well finally htc came up with its mid range windows 8 platform device,so wat we are getting..great looks,wp8 platform smooth interface (at par with android except applications), dual core processor one of the best out there in the market, NFC and some other cool features however it is priced a little bit high considering its rival lumia 620 price tag. i think you must wait till lumia 620 release price will definitely drop...while comparing lumia 620 & htc 8s , except larger screen for same pixel density, better battery(1700 mAh vs 1300mAh) and better design nokia made a clear sweep in competition i.e. better service, greater internal memory,secondary camera, greater data speed etc). Also guys, keep in mind 8s comes with a non-replaceable battery. hope u liked the review.

Just look at the price group ... tends towards the higher price group and no front facing camera and 512MB RAM ... sometimes these companies do jokes. Sony is running on the same line...many high end phones with basic features missing/very less/restricted. In India, it is coming for 20K Rs. Which is almost the higher price range. It will be better to purchase LG L9 for 17-18K with front camera, 1gb RAM with expandable memory (Just an example...there are many with high features with less price) My suggestion to all companies, next year plz put efforts not just on high end technology but also on the costing.

Came across this htc 8S review on indian online store. It was worth sharing here and remove any sort of confusion between htc 8s and lumia 620. ****************** LUMIA 620 vs HTC 8S @ GD (this specific part is reply to his review) 1) Looks are subject to personal liking. Both handsets, 8S and Lumia 620 are good in my opinion but Nokia is better known for build quality, reception and service support than HTC. 2) Both 8S and Lumia 620 have exact same GPU i.e. Adreno 305. Even CPU is same. So get your fact rights. 3) Lumia 620 has more PPI than HTC 8S! 246 (for 620) vs 233 (for 8S). This, because both have same resolution but display of Lumia 620 is smaller by 0.2". This will result in crispier images on 620. Again I would say, research extensively before writing misleading review. 4) I have already talked about build quality. Check track record of existing and old models from both Nokia and HTC. Leave that part, I would just like to point out that you are already claiming Lumia 620 has bad build quality when none has ever held it in hand except Nokia employees. It says lot about how immature your review is. Now for all other people. MAJOR DISADVANTAGE OF HTC 8S: It has only 4 GB internal memory. It has card slot so people will say, does it even matter? It does. WP 8 stores all games and apps ONLY on internal memory and by no way you can move it to SD card. Out of 4GB, only 1.6 GB is user available and that is barely sufficient for HD games, let alone apps. Lumia 620 has 8 GB internal memory with 5.6 GB user available. More than thrice of 8S. 8S also doesn't feature NFC. So you can not use tap+share and wallet NFC features extensively and nicely implemented in WP 8. ADVANTAGES OF LUMIA 620 OVER HTC 8S: 1) HAAC - 2 high amplitude microphones for best audio capture in smartphones. Only Nokia N8, Lumia 920, 820 and 620 have this feature. 8S and any other phone lacks it. 2) Front facing camera. Lack of this in 8S makes in built functionality of Skype in WP8 useless. 3) NFC (Near field communication). 620 has it. But lack of it in 8S makes tap+share feature with other accessories like speakers, NFC tags etc and NFC payment feature of WP 8 wallet useless. 4) Support for a 5 GHz frequency over 802.11n WLAN. This is recent adoption in smartphones and make high speed WiFi compatible with phone. Great to have it in 620 but 8S misses it. 5) 21 Mbps HSDPA support in Lumia 620. Maximum speed of HSDPA on 8S is unknown on HTC site but many websites report that its 14.4 Mbps. While mobile companies are upgrading their infrastructure to support more and more 3G speed, its nice to have handset compatible with it. 6) Nokia exclusive apps and location services like critically claimed Nokia Drive, Nokia transport, augmented reality app Nokia city lens, upcoming data compression technique Nokia Xpress, camera lenses like cinemagraph, smartshoot etc. All exclusive on Lumia phones. 7) Dolby headphone sound enhancements vs Beats in HTC. Many audiophiles give thumbs up to Dolby when compared to Beats. 2 stars because this phone still has beautiful and smooth WP 8 OS. Lack of said features is shame for this much price.

I prefer Lumia 620 over 8S. Several pros of 620 are NFC, 8GB ROM, front cam, clearer display. And in 8S, I've read a review that it only has 1.7GB user available and apps cant be moved on SD card. But I know, many of us want the gorgeous design of 8S, larger screen (than 620) and a much larger battery size. F*ck, why can't there be a perfect entry level phone for WP8! I'm really confused with 620 and 8S. I wanna try WP8 OS and an entry level phone should be a good move.

If your budget allows choose the S2. It has a better configuration and it's up to date even it appeared almost 2 years ago. However I prefer windows phone 8 better and the 8S-s design is awesome. (Maybe I will buy this phone.) But nor S2 does not have a bad appearance. All in all I recommend the Galaxy S2.

The memory of 4 Gb may be sufficient for data and apps. But what use is 8 MP camera if you don't have sufficient space to store what you snap or record ? esp. no ext. memory card also ! If one has to be stingy on memory the you should have options in internal memory like you have in chlothes like small, medium, large, Xl Xll etc. The price of only the extra memory should be added to the phone price and not like iphone which has large variation between 16 and 64 Gb internal storage. It should not be a means to fleece customers!

We got this phone in at work yesterday (yea NZ is slower to get things) and I cracked open one of the boxes as a demo model. Took it home and had a good play. Was brilliant, fast, smooth and easy to use. However back at work today I tried to hook it up to the wifi there (it worked perfectly at home) and it froze, ever since then its freezing a lot. I did a full restore and reset before I left it with the other Telco advisor so I'm hoping that will sort it, but has anyone come across this or know why that would happen?

512 MB RAM will be fine on Windows Phone 8. It's not a very taxing OS and the screen on the 8S is only WVGA.

Lack of front cam doesn't bother me one bit ! How many video calls does one ever make anyways ? Firstly, the other party needs to have a 3G phone, a 3G plan activated, a phone with front cam and then, not to forget, willingness to let him/her see u while u talk ! I for one don't want people to see me when I talk to them ..... As for the privacy of your room and talking to your gf/bf, a simple desktop PC with skype works just fine. Video calling on the move is just a mere sham. I would be a bit worried about the lack of removable battery though. A friend of mine used to have Sony Xperia Mini and once he had to wait 8 hrs for the battery to discharge when the phone hanged !! It wouldn't switch off or restart in any possible way ...

just point out an important note, not related to htc 8s. even though internet is blazing fast and streaming radios are abundant, you can't depend on it when natural disaster happened. that's why fm radio is still important in mobile phone, especially because it's kind of device that you bring almost everywhere, most likely when disaster happened to you. other important things that should be on mobile phone are flashlight (or camera flash will do), fm transmitter (my old nokia has it), and compass. . anyway, htc 8s is quite good for the price, but I want to see WP8 progress first before jumping into wp8 ecosystem.

HTC 8s and 8x are possibly the most innovative models designed by HTC. The features available in both the models are good and also advanced. Yes, 8s doesnt have front facing camera but it's not the only thing one wants in their phones. The phone at its price point also comes with Gorilla screen. The drawback, unfortunately, is the OS that is not so popular yet.

If you go in with 512 MB RAM then you will not be able to update the phone to Windows 9 OS when ever it comes. You will need minimum 1 GB RAM for windows 9. But its not that windows 8 will perform poor on 512 mb ram. Its very fast on 512 mb ram also. All applications will run easily with 512 mb ram.

Probably for people who aren't particularly interested in epic specifications and cameras. People like me. I'm interested in WP8 as I'm intending to get a Windows 8 PC in the near future and the idea of it all syncing effortlessly is appealing. I don't bother with cameras beyond a few photos now and then and I never really make video calls so the front camera isn't really an issue. Depending on the price of this handset when it arrives in my country (Canada) it'll be potentially my next phone

The phone doesn't have a front facing camera. It's to make the phone cheap. I have seen several hands on videos on facebook. And everyone says that it lacks front camera. It has a dedicated camera shutter key. MMC slot. It packs a dual core snapdragon S4 chip underclocked at 1ghz. And it's gpu is adreno 305 which is said to be better than Adreno 225. It is also said to bring Xbox like gaming performence.

IMO, the most important parts for almost all users are the looks, screen and battery, hTC 8S is better than Lumia 820 on that aspects. With 4" display, 233 ppi is enough compared to 4.3" but 217 ppi. And even with a smaller screen, 8S has larger battery than Lumia 820. But other than that, Lumia 820 outperforms 8S on software and hardware features.

I have been using lumia 610 for one week, because the phone is low on ram many apps dont work and even the apps that u can get on it work work smoothly, apart from this i think WINDOWS OS is much better than android, and if windows can get enough apps they can beat Android any day. Smoothnes and ease of use of OSs' Id rank: 1st -iOs, 2nd- Windows, 3rd- Android.

This phone isn't going up against the 920! That would be the larger and slightly more powerful htc 8x. The 8s looks like a nice enough phone with enough tech to satisfy the normal user (obviously can't satisfy the tech nuts who demand a pc in the size of a phone but hey). And most importantly this phone will be affordable :D Why are older models of Apple's iPhone and Sansung's Galaxy series remaining stubbornly expensive when they've been eclipsed by newer models? For the market it's aimed at, i.e. those of us who don't want to break the bank but would like a nice OS experience, the phone fits the job perfectly. The lumia 820 is also a very good looking phone but it will be more exoensive, something like $200 more, for extras that don't neccesarily justify the hike in price. The htc 8s has a higher ppi than the lumia despite having the lesser quality screen. Anyway, for a mid range phone it does very well.
