LG GW820 eXpo - User Reviews

  • exactly 100 %

  • is the package include progector with this phone

  • I'm at the 2 year point with my expo. The ROM is stock and the Expo always has a screen protector and is in a slim hardcase. My Expo looks 100% new when removed from the case. But, it stills gets knocked around. It's usually carried in my front pocket all the time, including my motorcycle. Rain, shocks & extreme heat have caused no problems. There's no major bugs or defects with the basic phone and winmo 6.5. If you load poor or questionable software into this phone you will have problems. The only thing that isn't acceptable is the screen size. My eyesight has gotten poorer the last two years. I need a phone with a larger screen. Quick summary. It works as required and has been reliable and rugged. I'd recommend it without hesitation.

  • however its a good phone, but there are some problems also with its projector, the projector shows 3 lines on the wall during its projection its touch screen disables and it has no tv out cable and softwares

  • it's good but this is not work internet in srilanka?

  • Okay, maybe I'm over reacting by calling my experience a night mare, but it was a crappy phone. I used it for 2 years . . . well I can't say that I really used it, more like I kept it on a plan and bought a 2nd cellular phone to help get me through those 2 long years. The problems included an unstable platform as well as poor hardware design. Just in case you think that it might be the games and software that I might have downloaded from an unknown source, I didn't. I had no other software inside this smart phone besides what came stock with the LG IQ. The phone crashed once every 2-3 days on average and quite honestly most of the time I wasn't even touching it when it happened. I'd wake up in the morning to check my Emails and would find that it would have shut itself completely off once every week or so, and it was on a charger at the time because I always charge my phones at night. Other times I'd be using it and the screen would freeze . . . sometimes it would get itself going after 30 seconds or so and other times it wouldn't. The processor is a 1 gigahertz clock speed gadget, but realistically it seemed to run at about 50mhz. There was a lot of lag between the keystrokes on various tasks such as Email and checking the calendar and exiting various apps that were built in to the smartphone itself. The hardware issues were mainly to do with the fact that the keys on the exterior of the unit were all in spots where you'd constantly be accidentally pushing them as you recieved or made a call or even just held the thing. On a positive note the battery life was fine and the camera was good and the keyboard never broke down. THe company (LG) or (Windows) that built the firmware never did offer an upgrade to pick out the tonnes of little glitches that plagued this unit, which there are too many to mention in a post that spans this length, so after 6 months I bought a cheapie cell phone to use along side this unit in order to guarrantee communications would be reliable and I used the LQ IQ just to do the other jobs like keeping track of my client service histories on the notepad feature. I'm not a heavy data user so I canned the data plan after a year as well because surfing on this particular gadget was terribly slow and impracticle even when using a variety of hotspots on WiFi. I never really thought that so many things could go wrong and that a reputable company would push out a product before they had completed their R&D work, but this phone is an example of such a thing. Also just a note, last month Windows announced the closing of their app. store due to a lack of interest, there wasn't anything interesting there anyhow unless of course you desperately need a tip calculator. Besides that, they were charging too much for the app design platform for anybody who wanted to build one, Windows mobile is really under the same controlling management that has run Windows since the dawn of their existance and control-issues has always been a big thing with them, they just can't imagine open source concepts and the risk of not squeezing every possible dime from their end users. Anyhow the fingerprint scanner that was used on this unit has a problem which probably plagues print scanners in general and that is that your finger must be in the same state when you scan it to memory as it is when you want to scan it to get through the security feature that locks the LG IQ. This isn't always possible since a dirty or damp or sweaty or dry finger can change it's properties and you are locked out of your smart phone until you can dry your finger off in order to make it all work, though it was nice that they had designed the scanner to except two seperate figures just in case one got cut off :)

  • not good 4 common user

  • common , if u read d specification, its clearly mentioned that there is no secondry camera in this phone .

  • 1st of all there is no secondary camera, just one but it works very well. The reason for my review is to complain so the kindness will stop now. This piece of junk really should not have an average rating of 7.9 in any catagory. For design it was really stupid to put buttons all around the parimeter of the camera because there is an overwhelming potential to hit a button when the phone is just picked up. The screen is not scratch resistant and mine has been damaged from rubbing against another plastic abject for a few minutes. The flicking potential of the screen is embarassingly feeble and does not compare to the iphone or most smart phones for that matter. The keyboard was just a bad idea, why did I think that a nice sized screen with a slide out keyboard was better than a Blackberry styled unit with the small screen layed above the keyboard? Sliders are not really meant to be used one handedly, here's a simple test . . . just try and type out a little text and send it with this phone. Apart from having to use a couple extra keystrokes to get the text sent, you will find that you just can't drive down the road and reply to any text easily. Yea that's right, I've been bad but with this phone it boarders on stupidity to even attempt that stunt, I could probably have sex at highway speeds easier than texting with this piece of junk on the road. So it has a whopping 1 gigahertz processor, it might sound impressive but quite honestly the speed doesn't seem to translate into real world differences with this smart phone, it still stalls and I am waiting for what appears to be no good reason with this gadget throughout many of it's regular functions. Win mobile 6.5 was probably shoved into this phone and sold all in the same day because it was not clearly tested to remove some really obvious glitches. This thing does lock up about once every 2 days for me and sometimes it looses the sound or the ability to find the micro sd card or just simply reboots itself. It is nice that I am able to reboot it though without ever having lost data, that I am thankful for! I hate the fact that I am married to this thing for 3 years, I never knew what kind of a device it was when I first met it, there was no first date. Only a quick introduction and a few carefully skimmed websites and reviews, but the inner workings of this gadget were not really known until I started using it. So all I can say is be careful what you are getting yourself into because it could be for a full term like I'm in for. I've had this phone for about 9 months and I've sent it back once only to find out that the replacement worked the same way as the first phone.

  • I cannot see any icon for video call althought there is a secondary camera on this phone? Can anyone help me?

  • can you tell me from where i buy this phone i want to buy now im in qatar

  • the truth is; the projector attaches and detaches to/from the rear. so swivell with a cherry on top. Amen

  • great specifications. the projector attaches to the rear. you may need to buy the projector as an extra. streaming youtube vids is fast, fast as i8910 but the i8910 is better quality vid. but if you have projector you have unique feature. good idea is flash with custom ROM from XDA Developers. rare handset, only 1 available on eBay from bona-fide_phones.

  • Question guys: I know the fingerprint reader acts as a 4 way D pad but does the center work as a ENTER key? Can you press that while in camera mode to take a pic? thanks- trying to decide between this and a refurb omnia.

  • If the phone is froozen and wont load you will have to send it in to LG. I just sent mine and i am waiting on the return of my most best phone ever!

  • Go ahead look into this there will be 5 part of the mobile

  • It seems that it is possible to remove the projector. If you click on the picture, you'll notice that the projector seems to be attached to the battery compartment. And below it is a picture without the projector. Either the projector and battery is attached together as one, and it comes with a seperate battery or the projector clasps onto something on the bottom

  • FIRST of all, you can't detach it...it's a slide/touch phone. So you can't detach it... Second of all, you can't spell right. Learn english... Third of all, what kind of question is that?!

  • Here is a very hand on review of this phone from what I've experienced. I've had the phone since January 15, 2010 and there is a lot of love and hate on my part. The phone is beautiful and will keep on surprising you, not always in the best of ways though. Running on windows mobile 6.5 professional makes the phone a more "badass" feel but it also hinders it sometimes in performance. The fact that it is both a slider and candy bar phone sometimes makes the system sluggish when alternating between candy bar and slider. As in the picture has to rotate to fit the screen. The phone is supposed to have a 256mb of ram and 512mb of rom but it does not perform like it at all. The phone is only reading 202.56mb of ram and even on "idle" status it uses 170+ of that. Being down 50mb of ram really affects performance when it comes to running programs on the phone. Running a single program, or multiple basic programs, the phone performs well. Example: The texting "program" and my browser of choice, Opera 10. But if I wanted to run multiple programs or apps, it will start closing other programs, sometimes even the program I am using. I can barely run the windows media player and any other program together, example: Windows Live Messenger, or the Bing application, or once again, my browser. The camera on the phone is great, in daylight. Although it has an auto focus feature, it is still very sensitive to movement of any sort. It is not a good "in the moment" camera as it still takes a good 2-4 seconds for the phone to actually snap the picture once you hit the button. The camera in the dark, even with a dual LED flash is of a subpar quality with its pictures coming out "grainy" or blurry at times. The video recording on it is of passable standards. It is not a 720 quality camera but it still takes decent higher quality VGA videos. In regards to pictures, the photo album view is insanely retarded. It is VERY sluggish in loading thumbnail views and will sometimes, depending on how many pictures you have and quality, will freeze the system. Internet browsing has its ups and downs as well. I am not sure if this is just Opera 10 doing this to me but there are times where it won't completely load a web page and reloading the web page only does very little. I refuse to use internet explorer on this phone since the few times I did, it kept crashing. Windows Media Player on this device is a big bonus though. The phone comes with its own media player but it is a total bust. From what I have found out, there is no way to disable the accelerometer when using that player and as mentioned before, it can be sluggish when rotating the system from portrait to landscape, thus making the music skip a lot. Back to windows media player. It is really good with two key things that I did not like. 1, when adding audio and video to your library, it will add any unneeded files such as "sound files" from programs like AIM, or Windows Live Messenger or the phone's sound files as well as any video file you have that you may have recorded. Not a big deal but I hate having to go and delete those files in a library of 10,000+ songs. Oh yes the expandable 32gb SD slot is amazing for this. 2. When viewing a movie in windows media player, the full screen feature isn't always "full screen" I have uploaded various videos/movies from my computer and it will only use a small portion of the screen. I went and downloaded a mobile DIVX player for full screen movies but unfortunately it's a beta and only plays AVI files. I sense this post is getting too long so I will answer questions as they come.

  • bah';@[1p2} no radio go for b7610 omnia pro

  • It comes with a headphones (headset) but the radio needs it to use as an antenna in order for you to use the radio function.

  • hey, is there anoyne outthere who can tell me the price of gw 820???????

  • Sure it has a USB jack with a 3.5 mm ending, you can use as TV out or put the supplied 3.5mm earphones or put your own! I myself didn't know that at first, LG GW820 is really very enigmatic with many features and tricks concealed in it. Cool!

  • It has a radio. I've used it. Just needs a headset.

  • I had the same problem with mine. I thought it was a defect at first. But when searched the FAQ about LG EXPO GW820, i found a way to solve this. 1. Start Settings System Power Advanced Select On Battery Power 2. Start Settings System Backlight Select On Battery Power then, change the backlight duration to the way you want :)

  • My phone LG EXPO GW820's battery runs low too fast . Is this usual for LG EXPO GW820? or am i the only one having this problem? PLZ HELP!

  • Question to everyone, if any of you know where to buy this model that has front camera and want to buy the projector too that no where to be found... :(

  • True it does not come with a 3.5mm headphone jack but it's not a big deal since it comes with a converter in the box and its not clunky or anything! Awesome phone! i'm getting it later this week!

  • LG GW820 eXpo phone is really great but don't have radio only

  • Has anyone tryed to get this phone, seems to have been out of stock for mounths. I would get the HTC HD 2 but i wouldnt get 3g

  • does this phone use mp3 ringtones for text alerts?

  • Dude, the LG GW820 EXPO and the LG IQ are the SAME PHONE! The IQ is the Canadian title for it, Expo is the American.

  • I have had this phone for two weeks now on the less than stellar AT&T network. Everything seems to work well. It has froze up once and was quickly unfroze thanks to the reset button under the battey door.Overall a great phone, beautiful screen, battery last longer than my iPhone. I definitely recommend this device.

  • actually it can work anywhere else i have 1 and i live int he Bahamas and it run wit my company BTC

  • can any 1 tell me its exact battery timing and about its working.i want 2 purchase it

  • sorry but th phone is just abailable for th us not for th uk or any other countries

  • Does anyone know how much the Projector add-on will cost in the UK when it becomes available?

  • GUys see this!!! :)

  • this phone looks like Acer M900 xD

  • Thanks a lot! I didn't know that the headset is the antenna :) Now the radio work like charm :)

  • am just waiting to get mine in few days so excited...

  • Yes, alot of devices use the headset as the radio antenna. That's part of the reason that you can't listen to radio over Bluetooth Stereo Headsets.

  • that means you have to put a headset in the handset

  • No, it does not. There is an icon for fm radio on LG menu mode but once clicked it said " No suitable antenna could be found. Closing the FM application."

  • the processor of this device is the QSD8650 and it is released and it does have fm radio

  • the problem is that if you break the wire at the bottom part where the mini usb is, you need to order the whole thing from lg and I can garantee that the price is not going to be cheap.

  • Don't worry about mini usb for earphones ! You get headphones with the phone in two parts, at the mic you can detach original and attach your own earphones and youse them, so it isn't a bih deal , I LOVE THIS PHONE :-)

  • The projector is already available at some online vendors, but way too overpriced. It basically projects anything you see on the screen. I haven't seen one for myself so I can't tell about the quality of the picture. The phone itself is very professional and solid. The battery plate is made from some kind of metal and very tough to be scratched. UI is not the best but fast and responsive enough, though might cause some problems to a person with big fingers. Office mobile is excellent but the memory runout and crash when tested with a huge(~7 mb) powerpoint file. Media player is mediocre: there are no audio customization and sound quality is in totally different level compare to any SE handset. Good thing is WinMo mediaplayer can run 720p movies smootly, thanks to the 1Ghz snapdragon. In-box accessories are cheap. The earphone is crap, luckily its 3.5 mm adapter, and there is no volume control on the earphone. No software cd from lg. and the manual is very brief. Overall, its very good phone for business, even better if you have the pico projector. But if you like to have a multimedia phone, go look somewhere else.

  • can u tell me d cost and how d projector work

  • izzit the mini projector sell separate?

  • Very cool specs. i like that

  • coolllll phone

  • it is very nice but how much is it in PKR

  • Wow... Very Unique.. First of its kind. i really like The Mini projector. wow

  • i like it

  • This is very nice model and gud looking

  • omg this phone is like an angel sent from heaven!!! lol(:

  • does the package of the phone includes 3.5mm-micro USB converter?

  • omg i got mines yesterday and its frekin unbelievable too bad the prokjecter isnt available yet but this is faster than ay phone ive had ever!!!

  • I thought there was a radio if you plug in the headset??

  • Secondary camera is already updated in spec sheet :) This phone is already available for general sale. Just ordered mine yesterday and will get my hand on on Tuesday. Too bad the mini projector is still unavailable :(

  • i see 3 spots too. one is clearly labeled proximity sensor in the manual posted online, the other really looks like a secondary camera, but nowhere do the specs say it has a secondary camera, and that would be a really odd feature on a US phone, especially an att branded one. The manual says it supports att videoshare, but it seems they mean throught the main camera. I doubt now about the 2nd camera, but we'll have to wait for confirmation i guess.

  • well, as i looked at that closer, i found three spots.

  • the two spots at the top left are for the light and proximity sensors.

  • look at the top left corner of the phones. there is 2 'holes', one for auto light detector and the other for camera.

  • this phone already released in canada with telus

  • There isn't a secondary camera, the phone has a detachable mini projector that has DLP technology. Mini projectors are all the rage right now.

  • I love the design and the secondary camera is just so cool I really wanted that phone the first time I saw it its amazing LG is doing a wonderful job with most of their phones but the best one right now I would say the LG GW820 AMAZING..............

  • it a detachable hunchback. lol

  • It has a secondary camera. You can see it in the picture btw. phone supports videoshare.

  • Ha ha haaa, secondary camera :) :). LOL. Its mini projector!!! Not Camera :).

  • i like the design (am I the only one?) and there is a secondary camera, please correct it GSMArena!

  • come on dude u break my hopes :(

  • oh! OK thank you very much!

  • Well, looking at videos of the thing, it seems like LG did an amazing job optimizing the OS, and the Snapdragon sure doesn't hurt. I'm guessing this will be a pretty nice productivity/entertainment device. However, it will definitely not have XDA support. As everyone knows, XDA only supports HTC devices. Some members of the forum might decide to mod the Expo, but the forum itself will not have a board for the device.

  • This device makes a serious case with finger print scanner for security (sure beats typing a pw), optional projector !!??!?!?, snap dragon, and full qwerty. It comes down to whether the original software/OS is any good or if it will have xda support. althought LG generally lg has a very high return rate at the store i use to work at... We will see if the idea comes to fruition.

  • It's a mini projector add-on. It will not come in the box. You need to pay an extra $180 for it

  • What exactly is the thing on the back of the phone? If I get it will I be able to take it off?

  • This is gonna kill iphone xD

  • Hiii

  • nice phone

  • 256mb

  • Finally AT&T gets a consumer smart phone. I'm convinced they've had a deal with Apple to not offer a phone that's competitive with the iPhone. Now Apple is selling the iPhone elsewhere and AT&T begins to pick up some decent phones.

  • does this bad boy have a 3.5mm jack?

  • i prefer Windows Mobile over Android platform

  • Anyone know How much RAM this will be hitting the market with?

  • thats a mini projector on the back there champ

  • 1st ting fast pro good./ but no 2nd camera ! no radio if 3g cums i think 2nd camera should cum. can we cmpare dis with e72

  • Is it a real phone? its look like a phone with a TUMOR on its back. Makes me remember one of Disney movie call "The Hunchback of Notre Dame", its really need plastic surgery.lol

  • you mean king of bugs?

  • This Phone is very ugly!

  • do you compare this by xperia x10 are you ok? xperia x10 is the king but this is a normal phone with only fast cpu

  • at&t Grabs this phone Insted of the HD2 , MY LIFE IS OVER

  • what is the projector used for? presentation? or movie? looks bulky with the projector but awesome slim without it.. i wonder how much it will cost in south east asia :)

  • Wish it had a capacitive touchscreen with multi-touch and also 3.5 mm headphone jack . But the projector is a great idea. Can the projector be used when browsing the net??

  • usually i hate lg's but this one mught be good since there is windows mobile on it and there is a keyboard

  • phone+projector,good idea,fissi-design

  • It should cost a fortune! .. Great phone, only is bad in the music side, because it doesn't have a 3.5 mm audio jack.

  • i can now imagen me watching videos on my bed, projecting it to my ceilling

  • do you compare this by xperia x10 are you ok? xperia x10 is the king but this is a normal phone with only fast cpu

  • it has a projector =O and how much will the price range in the US

  • Good phone. When it will come.

  • this phone is great, simple words.

  • wow this phone is great!!

  • Great specs although we are waiting a full review.Hope to see it and to other countries except from usa.

  • It's Just The stupide LG trying to equal access to Sony Ericsson phones & Sony Ericsson Xperia X10, but I'm sure it will fail.

  • Lovely work By Lg! Let's see how it works.

  • good size for 1ghz cpu.

  • Again, another strange looking phone that will stir up lots of opinion regarding its very design. Hehe. For sure some will say it's the hunchback of Notre Dame, ninja turtle and more. But considering the idea of a detachable mini DLP, it is going to be one of the greatest fone that will once again redefine the principle of mobile technology since the birth of nokia and the emergence of iPhone. Imagine educators who can improve their visual presentations in their respective classes without having to bring heavy conventional projectors and pc's. Sharing pics and personal vidz in larger views with friends and family. New sets of possibilities for a mobile phone.. Ohh la la..Hope its just not going to be stuck to AT&T. Because many parts of the world aren't covered by it.

  • It looks like a rough and tough phone.

  • Looks like a turtle.

  • qwerty has 4 rows.wow!!!!!!!

  • i like this phone when would it be released

  • great phone

  • Spny Ericsson Xperia? or nokia n97 mini? Looks ok

  • this looks like a very nice phone and expensive as well

  • Looks awesome
