Its a good phone to connect it to your PC using the the cable you have to make sure the drivers are propelly copied. To do that uninstall your LG files including the hardware from the system-devices and download the U8110_UK_1 folder from or from another site. Unzipped and write down the folder location in your HD . Then conect the phone to the PC and when you are told that new hardware has been found start installing the four drivers to your PC every time it ask you.

I have just bought a used LG U8110. When I put my Orange contract sim card in it recognises it as Orange and my phone nr but I cant get it to stay on the Orange network.If I select manually it stays on for about 20 seconds then reverts to no network coverage. I have tried in rural and city areas and I have managed about 5 minutes in total network coverage in 24 hrs. Screen just says Orange Please select network Is there a fault with this handset?

Its a nice handset, I was fed up with this handset coz its not connecting to my pc, I was in trouble but now its solved its really so easy to connect to PC I was doin some foolish mistakes as all of u r doing. i hav a lg u8110 and could never use mms i just Found the setting thats right i have them optus dosn't neither does Lg or 3 and they just reccomend each other here they are enjoy guys 1. MMS on the phone go to menu>Messages>Settings>Multimedia message>Multi. msg centre>options>Add new ok we are creating a new profile; TITLE: whatever you want eg optus mms MMSC URL: :8002 MMS PROXY: 061.088.190.010 CONNECTION MODE: UDP ACCESS POINT: 3 Services (LEAVE THIS AS IS) save this and then save this as the default. 2. WAP: on the phone go to Menu>Browser>Settings>Profile>options>Add new again we are creating a new profile; there is a little trick here so follow carefully TITLE: whatever you want eg optus gprs homepage: connection mode: TCP with Proxy (for the moment) ip address: 202.139.083.152 proxy: 9201 security: NonSecure Timeout: 150 access point: 3 Services (LEAVE THIS AS IS) now go back to Connection mode and change to : UDP(CO) save this and then save this as the default. 3. APN on the phone go to Menu>settings>access points>3 services bearer: GPRS username: blank pass: blank APN: mms (for mms) or prepaidyesoptus (for wap gprs)

Stop buying this mobile, I have bought one but I can't install it to my computer which has got Windows XP 2006. When I encounter problems with mentioned windows to install the cell phone, then sure you may face the same problem with the older versions of windows.

This phone is not the best... after a while you will notice that the phone lags a lot and that the camera does not stay in position and rotates back to its comfort position and also we got 4 of these phones in a package and all 4 have microphone problems... this is due to the microphone becoming loose and moving around inside.. to be honest do not get this phone... its a waste of money

Its a really good hanset better than the last one i had(Nec e616v).Though memory is short but its kool. And the USB cable works for XP,98 and 2000. because i have transfered things using all of those windows.And it works perfectly fine with me.

O K, I have contacted LG - LG says that the phone has Irda. But it only works with a computer when you are using LG's software. You can not send a picture to a friend via Irda at all. they dont support it at all. Actually, none of the 8xxx series phones have real Irda. So basically, they have it on the phone for only computer use, if you have a computer that can receive irda. My suggestion is the sony Erricson z88i. I thre my old LG phone away and the Z800i is the best phone I have ever used.

Anyone who says the phone is great - why not tell us how the Irda works. I have noticed not only on this forum, but many around the world that they have exactly the same problem. All we want to do is transfer images from the LG to a phone that is much better so we can share pictures. The manual tells nothing. LG Support says nothing. No one knows anything and the only thing I can figure out is that we have to pay again to send a mms to another phone. So maybe LG should pay for their 'connectivity'. Yep, lifes good.

This has to be the Worst phone I bought. Geez, LG, why make a IRDA port on the phone when you guys dont even support it! It's nuts! Maybe your CEO should go to a doctor. But then again, its a Korean based company that only sees how they can screw you around. After six months, I have bought a Sony Erricson phone and it's so much beter - bluetooth, irda (yes - it works!). It's like upgrading from a Mac G3 computer to a Mac G5. Sorry LG, I cant buy another LG product again only because you say you support something and in reality you dont.

The features on the phone are great. MP3 player, MP4 video which i have to say is crystal clear and much better than alot of other video phones. It has all the functions and features you would expect from a quality phone. However there is one slight problem...Well there are a few actually. Firstly, there is never a signal..you cant even make a call half the time because it will just cut off. i thought it maybe the network but other phones on 3G network are fine. My friend had the same phone and had the same problem. Now its great to have all these features but when you cant make a call...whats the point? This makes it so annoying because without this problem the phone would be great. Secondly, and something which has already been pointed out, the battery lasts for a ridiculous amount of time. You go on the internet for 10 mins and you can guarantee there will be a bar or two less on your battery indicator. Summing up, the features and design are great, but i find the overall performance of the phone very poor which is a shame.!

Its a user friendly phone, that is, until it dies on you. I think its one of those really "smart" phones: not because its reliable, but because it seemingly works wonders (i.e. suitable for the technology-challenged, but still applicable to those who type sms at the rate they talk)... so under these premises, you introduce it to all your friends... and everyone has one, until one day, you hear a friend say it has died on them...microphone doesnt work, hear crackling all the time (actually, hear the weirdest distortions of sounds), camera footage all cut up into stills, messages dont send due to error, shuts down sometimes... and you think its all just blah-blah myth, because your OH-SO-WONDERFUL phone couldnt possibly be.. *gasp*..crap, because for goodness sakes! its LG~ but then, the unthinkable happens: its dead (and if not dead, its retarded). Just lies there like a dead corpse and all you can do is take it in for repairs (meanwhile, very inconvienced without a communication mobil, you are harrassed and accussed by all friends and families and annoying acquaintances for "dropping off the face of this planet"). But as i was saying, LG is a smart phone... in terms of darwin's theory on survival: it is seemingly the best phone ever, and is recommended and bought by many, but then, it dies on you... so, you have to repair it w/ warranty cover.... and because you went through so much trouble, you are not going to abandon it... yep, smart phone, the way of future technology!

This phone is awful, the worst phone i ever had. I've had it 6 months, it hardly rings anymore, just goes straight to the voicemail. Its a nightmare connecting it to the pc because sometimes it cant see USB and sometimes it can. When it can, you have to shut the phone off then back on to get it to work again. Fairly nice phone. Camera is very good if you put it on it's highest quality. The video quality is not bad either, but video calling still has a long way to go, before it will be perfect. 3 in my books is the worst network. The phone has a lot of faults, no time of call, can't put dictionary off, no extension for memory and lot of good features, good camera, looks good, mp3 player. So overall I give it a 6/10.

I foun the lg 8110 very good for the first month, then when you suss that you can only use 3 to wap then you realise its a pretty poor wap service compared o others.All downloads are expensive and limited. A good site to go to for cheap lg accessories is solware.co.uk.cheapest around. Overall i like the phone and downloading animations to the image section is good.

For all you people out there, i have managed to connect my LG8110 to my laptop. To make the connection, u have to plug in the usb drive and then it will automatically install a few drivers (on xp it is automatic) once fully installed and it says your hardware is installed and ready for use, you then open up phone manager. click on Transfer on the file bar right at the top and then click on set com port. Make sure that usb is selected and the com port has a star after the number, only the com ports with a star will work, if there are no star's at all, then the driver is not installed and you will have to restart computer and reinstall drivers. One of the main errors people get when tryin to connect is: - "failed to connect to the mobile handset, please check com port and connect in the idle screen" First check in the transfer then com port settings that the port selected has a star after the name, e.g. COM6* If it has, then try restarting computer then try again. If it still comes up with the same message, make sure that your handset is on the MAIN SCREEN, not menu screen as THIS WILL NOT WORK, it will not connect if any applications are open, your phone has to be on the screen as when you turn it on. This should now connect your phone to the phone manager. Once connected, you can only download mp3 files to the handset, you simply find the file you want to download, right hand click on it and click copy. you then go back to your phone which will be under my computer and double click on the icon, you then click on audio and this will open up a blank page in phone manager, right hand click in this page and click paste. Do not interupt the phone whilst downloading and if someone does ring you, then the download will cancel. The same concept applies to pictures, you copy and paste as you did with the audio files. Audio files are stored under audio when you click the multimedia option in your phone menu, to set as ringtone, go to profiles, then edit, then ringtune, then scroll left and right/up and down till you find your audio file, then press ok. I still cant work out how to download video files to the phone because the format is very different to normal videos on computer, such as music video's. If anyone also knows how to work the audio/video/picture editor in the phone manager then please let me know. I cant seem to select the editor features in the phone manager. If you are still having problems with the phone, then feel free to email me at: - [email protected] I will try to sort out any other problems you may have with this phone. This is a great phone with excellent features. It took me a while to get it fully working especially the phone manager program. The camera quality especially pictures are great. I have a �500 sony camcorder, and the still picture quality is the same as my phone. I have used the camera a lot and once uploaded to my computer, it makes it a whole lot more interesting.

LGU8110 - Got some good features but has some really annoying things. The s/w, Phone Manager, provided is really crap. It worked perfectly on one PC no crashing at all. But on my new and fater PC, it crashes as soon as i go to Phone Manager -> Messages section and try to click on a message. no idea y!! Even when i send an sms via PC as soon as the message gets sent, it will crash. This didnt happen before! Also, there's no way to disable T9 text entry mode. it's alwz ON by default. For getting Internet, u have to manually switch between the 2 APN's. Battery Life is good and size and wt is too. Better to stick to Nokia, awaiting the 6630!

ive had this phone now for about 3 months and at first it was great then when u start messing about with it ie changing the profiles and ringtones ,wallpapers etc thats when u start having probs like cutting off when on calls ,trying to dial a number then it goes back to main screen or maybe it hangs when your on the 3 services ive been doing some messing about and if u do a master reset on the phone the phone will work fine the phone has not had a problem for over 2 week now obviously when they do tests on the phone they must just check it in the factory reset mode but at the end of the day we all want to personalize are phones dont we so thats no good but im so sick of it now so long as it works when i want to use it that will do for me

Hi, my partner and me both got the LG U8110. Installed the software and my partners phone worked fine but mine would not work at all. After a check on both phones connection ports I found the problem. inside the connection port above the wafer card bit there are two goldish coloured connectors, on my partners phone these were next to each other on mine the were seperated(manurfacturing fault). mine at the moment is getting a free upgrade to the u8120. Customer services from mobile advice centre responded very quickly and professionally. thanks to those involved.

This is the third day I've had the phone and it seems I've had the same problems as most people but I've managed to solve a few. The problem I had with the software was the drivers not being Microsoft certified(??!!). After speaking to 3 about it and basicaly being told it's the same with most phone software so use it or don't I bit the bullet and installed. The softwares been great and I've not got the other half of my phone. If like me you can't find a COM* it's probably the drivers not being installed. If you run 'Add Hardware' in your comps Control panel and have the disc for the phone in your drive then Windows will/should run through each driver, installing and fixing the probs but still stating that it's not approved. If your running xp it will create a rolllback point just incase. I was told by the 3 sales staff the phone couldn't take POP3 yet the booklet states it can. So after much hunting it turns out POP3 DOES WORK and connects using the same basic connection fields as Outlook. Some might have found it easy but it was a nightmare for me so any one with probs can mail me because the User Guide(?!) is useless after the first few steps. One thing I at first thought was a prob with the mail box was the fact that it deletes all mail. What's that all about??! If you do have a POP3 then all's not lost as you can choose to leave the mails on your server (should be a default yes but isn't), view the ones you need then delete them all in one go. Still a nightmare if you're expecting a specific mail or want to leave just one important one on your phone. I've had the same user problems as most people seem to and I'm yet to try out the worrying 'msm to 3' issue but one thing I will add is now I can finaly blast my latest mp3 ringtone why is there no access to ALL sounds?! At the end of the day, to me, the phone's great and after finaly stepping up from a Nokia 3210(!) it's like Star-Trek's come real!

once i got the hang of it, the phone is not too bad. the download feature is pretty poor as once you disconnect, all the information on the pc vanishes. the customer service is dreadful. you get the same asian man everytime you call who does not seem to know much and can not understand your problems. to be honest, so far i wish that i had stuck with orange.

the lg u8110 does not give you the option to download your content. The software does not work and feel that anyone with this modle has the right to terminate there contract as i feel that 3 has missled the public and broken there terms and conditions by not supplying one of the functions they say it has. If 3 can sort this problem out i will still carry on with the contract, otherwise i will take my business elsware.

If any1 is having trouble downloading mp3. Then that is probably a good thing. I rang 3 to guide me through process and seems memory isn't even big enough for 1 song. Only allows 3mb. Cry Cry. Oh well, still a gr8 fone, I just have to get a mp3 player instead. Only do wish it had a radio then it would have been perfect. If you find the instruction book to be useless, then try the 3 website. I found the customer care instructions very helpful.

right were to start the phone is good apart from the 3 mp3 memory storage the fact of the camera quality isnt brilliant and the battery gets hot enough during phone calls to burn your face and as for the 3 customer service team i wouldnt even bother they havent got a clue!!!!!!!! so personally i will not even touch another phone from 3 lg or anything to do with them if anyone has a battery with the serial number l04049 made in korea get in t0uch with lg on 08000724259 and they will provide you with a new battery i personally dont see why this should happen. i have been on the phone for 7 hours in total so far to 3 to resolve this problem and all they have offered is �25 in credit even though ive lost over �100 in wages and phone calls contacting 3 my final words dont buy a 3 phone!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

i send sms often and i dont like using the t9 dictionary. this phone's t9 is set by default and i have to turn the t9 off everytime i compose a message. in addition to that, the keys to compose a message is very slow. i have to wait for the cursor to stop blinking before i can key in the next letter. the keys just cant keep up. its taking me forever to send a single sms.

I have worked in the mobile phone industry since 1983 and hae to say this is the best phone I have ever used. I work for a major airtime distributor and have had 1000's of phones over the years. Only one complaint NO BLUETOOTH. You can by a BT Dongle for the headset socket bit it ruins the phones sleak looks... My advise is to use the handsfree option in car as it is pleanty loud enough.. just hold down C button for 3 secs..

Reefe this phone is locked to 3g and not easily unlocked. Why would you want to anyway - you wont find a cheaper network. If your worried about coverage and call drop you can manually roam to O2 but you will lose out on 3's excellent content, Its free for the first month on contract so use all u can and you will never go back to slow boring GSM

the lg u8110 is an awsome phone. the best phone iver ever used to be frank. the only problem i have is that it only has 14mb of memory and no way to upgarde that. i dont mind all that much since game are on the three services and not on the phone wich makes it usefull so that you dont use up any more memory. but if your planning to use it as a mp3 player look esle were because u can realy only put 3-5 mp3 on this phone before u fill the entire memory. to to me thaqt no problem because if i want a mp3 player i would have brought one and not a phone. ps sory bout the spelling and writing im failing english.

yousayfreaklikeitsabadthing, if you are connecting via the supplied USB cable, when starting the phone manager software you need to click the contents button the left side, then go to the dropdown list called 'Transfer' then 'set COM Port' Under communication method, select USB and it will default to a COM value. Your connection should work after that.

Phone is fine, as mentioned before only 16mb of ram, so storing mp3's is extremely limited, I only store a few mp3's for ring tones only and these I have converted to 64kbps in mono so they only take a few 100kb (why use stereo for a single speaker?)Plus I crop the MP3's to about 45-60 sec as the phone goes to message bank somewhere between these times, saves a little bit of space. Just a couple of negative import though, it would be nice to be able to go straight to speaker phone instead of holding down the C button for 2+ (nice if this could be set in a profile), had a prob receiving mms sms from a friend bot the 3 network, couldn't download the message (though is prob a network prob not a phone prob). Can the phone export to Outlook? The desktop sw can import from outlook but it would be nice to export to outlook. I use outlook 2003 and i can't find out how to do it. Is it poss with older versions of outlook? Oh yeah, why does the phone have flash? it is so useless, doesn't light up anything to be able to take pics in low light. Otherwise the phone and 3 work great, though i'm in WA (perth) and have heard the 3 network in perth is better (less dropouts and probs) than the eastern states.

ive had this fone 3weeks n ive had to return it, im now onto my 5th handset n they wont let me cancel my contract, the same problem keeps reoccuring n to be honest i would much prefer the nokia 6230, its true wot they say bout once u own a nokia u should never change as i regret the day i hung up my 7250 for this garbage (however i was pleased with it at first,the features are good but battery life is crap and overall handlin of fone is pap)

Actually the more I use this phone the more I love it (is has had me fingers all tangled up when texting as I'm used to a samsung) but here are my comments.. 1. The software running on my laptop worked fine for me, a bit quirky but I got there... updated all me contacts from me old phone. But in my view very limited on what the software can actually do. 2. But after I did this I cannot switch the phone off, not such a big deal you might think but clearly this is dangerous to aircraft navigation when flying. When you switch off it goes through the motions, then hey presto back on again 10 seconds later. 3. Its a video phone right.. so why is the Video Picture Blocked by default, I wasted a few costly calls to my ugly mate bfore I could figure out what was happenening!... only then to be reminded that he was still ugly! 4. What does the phone do to mp3s as once theve been uploaded from me pc for ring tones, when you try to download them again they dont play in say MS Media Player.. wierd as I get similar problems with jpg images. i have just recently got the LG U8110 and i have found it to have some really amazing features however i found it near impossible to copy rigntones and images from my PC to my phone. If anyone knows of some software or a process to make this possible could you please let me know.

this phone is highly functional. only problem is with the PC software that comes with it, it always hangs at the end and causes the phone 2 crash. any1 kno where i can get updated software or firmware for this phone??? tried the LG website and it seems that they dont even kno that they released this phone.

I found that if I connect the hands free headphones to the phone before I connect to Phone Manager, then when I disconnect with the headphones still in place it doesn't hang! If anyone can find another solution to this, please let me know. Thanks

The PC connection bundle causes the phone to freeze on disconnection. so far as i know, this happens everytime to everyone. you can't download games or videos from the internet (as far as i know). memory is low if you want to have loads of tunes, but use an .mp3 to .3pg converter to make the files a LOT smaller (though less quality). apart from that i think the phone is excellent and can recommend it. if buying from the UK try the e2.save website, it had the best deal when i bought.

When I have finished using LG Phone Manager, I click disconnect and my phone hangs. Says something like "Syncronisation finished". The only thing i can do is turn the handset off then back on. I'm running the LG Phone Manager on windows XP. Anyone have any suggestions? Thanks

This phone is great, but has some ordinary features. The camera and video stuff ic cool, as is the internal software, etc. Of course, I have gripes as listed below. The included software is Windows only, so sorry Mac users, you can't even transfer files using USB to a Mac - pretty ordinary. Had LG included removeable storage, this should not have been a problem. The included software is OK, but the file transfer stuff is stupidly complex and not intuitive. You must exit all applications on the phone or it plain wont connect. You must use the Phone Manager as described by James below, and manually navigate to what you want to transfer. Dragging files to your PC deletes them from the phone (it should copy them), right-click and drag let's Windows copy them rather than just move them. When you connect the phone, it should automatically show the content and a button to sync with the PC PIM (haven't these guys used a Palm???) Overall a great phone but with some annoying drawbacks - 7/10

Here's the answer to the PC connection problems everyone's having. Go to LG Phone Manager, click contents, select Transfer menu, select Set Com Port, then click the USB option. For some reason it defaults to IRDA and will keep going back to that setting. Then, you should find a COM port in the COM port list with an asterisk - and that's the one you need to select. NOTE: This is SEPARATE from selecting the COM port in the synchronisation manager. You need to do it in the LG Phone Manager. Really poor implementation, but there you go, that's how it's done.

This fone rockz. Its by faar the best and l8st fone out rite now. Its got almost everything at its highest levels. But the reason i said almost is becuase it comes with no games. wich leaves that to you and that is UR duty but the prices for all of the good games on 3g wap are unbelieveable. Premier manager 2004 and Racing Deluxe both cost 8 pounds each! The other thing is that the phones a bit tooo big. its still not bigger than the Sharp GX'S but its big adn the other thing that lets it down is the weight,pretty heavy, its heavier than some of the 1st fonez out!! but at 126 Grams its still not really that bad. Overall the picture quality. THE MAGNIFICENCE! and well i dnt think i've forgotten anything!!!!!!! Well- c-ya!

Just one problem wiht the camera. When you have the camera facing the user's direction, the image that the camera captures is a mirror relection and there is no way to flip it back.

I've had the LG U8110 for over a month now, the only problems i have is that the battery life is too low i have to charge it every other day!!And also if i'm on the phone to some1 & i've been talkin 4 a long time, say 1 hour or so, the call mysteriously cuts off?!!- n e 1 else have this problem?this has happened several times! Plus i'm having problems connecting the phone to my PC, the none of the com ports have an asterix next to them, otherwise its a great phone with xcellent screen quality. btw - hw many songs max can u have on this phone (mp3)?

I sent this message to Foxytam, and it should help you if you are having trouble connecting your LG to a PC. If you are getting this message when you are trying to connect the phone to your pc using the phone manager software that comes with the phone then you need to make sure that you phone is not in any of the menus or any applications also in phone manager you need to click on the Transfer Dropdown menu and select set COM Port. From there select usb as communication method and select a COM Port, the one you will need to use will have an asterisk next to the number. If none of them have an asterisk next to the number then you may not have installed the drivers from the cd correctlty. You should now be able to connect using the connect icon in the top left.

I got this phone on a Tuesday and thought it was great. By Sunday it was close to unusable as it failed to detect removal of the headset so normal speaker and mic didn't work. Got another on the monday. By Friday it was unusable as the charger failed and the battery ran down. Replaced it on the Saturday and am amazed to have gone a week with the same handset. Phone locks after USB sync and PC software often crashes in WinME (which shouldn't really come as a surprise).

if you have a problem with not fitting enough mp3's on, then use a program to convert them to 3gp and place them in the audio folder. they are not as good quality but they are only about 100kb instead of 2-4Mb, so you can fit a lot more. program i have been using is nokia pc suite, it may not be for LG but it does convert the files and then you use the LG programs to put it on the phone

when i first got this phone i just played with the camera alot, but as ive had it longer and longer i realised more of its posabilities, and just recently i got the pc software to work. its an amazing phone, fairly normal batterylife and a good layout. i would def recomend this phone.

Overall this is a very good phone, good battery life, size and weight are comparable to 2g and 2.5g. Everything on the phone works and works well, it's just what's not there that is the problem. I can't believe they only put 14mb in the phone with no possible way to expand. This only alows for 4 MP3's and some photos, though it does play the MP3's as ringtones so no more wasting of money on something that should be free anyway. Also this unit only uses USB 1.0 so when transferring MP3's can still leave you with quite a wait. The only other problem is not being able to transfer Java applications and the limited use of the ones you can download is a bit disappointing and I really would have expected more, although I believe this is the same for all the 3g phones. Also no bluetooth is a slight downside.

I've just upgraded from an old Panasonic GD87 to the LG u8110.The difference in screen quality is awesome.....but the only thing is the LG heats up very quickly.After 10 minutes on a call it's warm ,20 it's hot...40 it can melt makeup of a girls face! Why does this happen ....anyone know?

I won't be buying this phone because the supplied software can't upload and install JAVA apps to the phone. I posted this elsewhere: Just spoke to an LG technician over their customer support line. His initial thought was that "of course, it should be possible" to install JAVA apps from the phone to the PC. But after after humming and haahing going through the LG software he had installed at his end and going through the manual, he finally concluded that, no, it is not possible after all to transfer and install JAVA apps on the LG U8110 from a PC via the USB or IR connection. You can transfer ringtones, pictures etc using the software, but not JAVA apps, but he does acknowledge that it can be done over a WAP web page. He also said that any kind of software fix to allow installation of JAVA apps from the PC would not be coming at least for another few months if it came at all. That was all very disappointing, considering that the JAVA app upload and installation to the LG U8110 was the only outstanding concern I had about the phone and 3 Networks. I won't be buying this phone now, and I'll give 3 a miss until they stop messing around and give us something that works properly with basic functionality provided by the competition.
