It has a buggy firmware, but it actually works most of the time, and I don't use the audio/video/browser capabilities. I only employ calls, SMS texts and use the phone as an (slower) UMTS modem with my PC if needed. The design is admittedly hideous, but the build quality is very good and stable. I dropped the phone on stone floors or against walls, stepped on it or kicked it (of course, accidentally), and everything I observe are some scratches on thick plastic and a blind camera mirror (the chrome's been coming off). I use the phone since 3.2006, and now it needs a new battery, I think I'll have to shell out 10 EUR or so. A good, durable phone.

I'm still using my Motorola E770 since 2006. So awesome. I liked the features, I can do browsing. download mp3's, videos etc. I had an experience that this cellphone of mine got virus from the computer. One thing I did was i research the Universal PASSWORD

If you cant access the memory card, confirm that your memory card is not broken(has not chipped off or cracked) or try it in another phone to ensure its not faulty.

to sara: 3G is provided by your operater. you have to contact him in order to be able to use 3g network. in some areas you can have only 2g coverage..so ask your local net operator for availability and how to set parameters...hope this will help. me-bgd-rs

this was my first 3g phone wayback in the early 2006. it is still working up to now, however i gave it to my niece. this is a pretty good entry level 3g phone. simple and functional. what i like so much about this phone is the sound of the speakers-- it beats the cr@p out of se walkman phones in this category, the bright screen backlight, and the very clear quality of calls.

i've got this kind of phone since 2006 and it's really very good. i have a memory stick of 1GB and it works! i don't know why you guys can't use one of 1GB, i've changed several memory sticks and all worked... the only problem that i had with motorola e770 was that sometimes i couldn't make photos,so in that cases i had to detele everytime a file so the camera worked again. but in spite of this i am still pleased of it.

I had this problem (System Error) . My phone worked fine after i restarted it. Later it began to show me System Error again, so i restarted it again . The only solution is to restart your phone every time it shows this bug. :)

I've been using this phone actively since 2005, it's still working very well. Not a single problem till now. Its 4 years old battery lasts about 3 days, plays music at enjoyable levels, connectivity with umts is fast. Btw its housing and cosmetics looks way better than my friends 4 months old samsung d900i. E770V might be outdated with specs but this's truly a phone that would never let you down. At least for me. All the best.

Best phone I ever had, still using it now (2009) and bought it in 2005/6. Simple camera, quick bluetooth, great 3G mobile internet reception and a brilliant signal wherever I go. I've replaced the battery only once at minimal cost. Can someone explain to me why phones with even less specifications than this now only give us a day of battery life? It's beyond me as to how phones around 2004-2006 (of whatever specification) lasted longer than the rubbish they churn out now.

Yo the reason the 4gb won't work is cause it's a mirco high capacity sd rather than just normal mirco sd. normal ones only go up to 2gb. i recommend trying a 2 gb. otherwise stick to what they tell ya! chur

I have the same problem. The only remedy I found this far is to activate the speaker. When doing speaker calls there is no echo. You cant have this kind of calls in public though.

to read the memory card in you phone: enter the main menu -> connection -> usb setting -> make the default connection = memory card

there is no way vodafone can restrict Bluetooth connection. unless you have downloaded copyrighted content from them, which you cannot transfer through Bluetooth. actually, regardless of wherever you downloaded a copyrighted content, you will not be able to transfer it through bluetooth anyway.

please be informed that Bluetooth enabled devices now has a security feature in which it cannot be detected without configuring certain setting. with motorola e770, it cannot be detected unless the "find me" feature on bluetooth settings is turned on. the same thing with other devices, some cannot be detected unless the settings allow for discovery of the device. once paired with the other device, though, motorola e770 can easily find and connect with that device provided the other device's Bluetooth is turned on.

I recently bought this phone for around 18$. Of course, it's used phone. It has nice functions and its design is fantastic. But, i recognized one problem. It's about bluetooth. This phone was locked to Vodafone, for using only Vodafone SIM cards. However, it vas decoded to use all SIM cards, but it was not flashed to remove Vodafone functions. So, i can receive files from other phones via bluetooth, but it happens that their phones wont discover my. Also, I CAN'T find no one phone via bluetooth, and I think that this is a Vodafone issue. Connecting to my phone from my comuter works, and It's all OK. Bluetooth module on this phone is not damaged, I'm sure for this, because when I use a program named Super Bluetooth Hack, I can find all other phones. Only when I want to transfer files from my phone, it wont find any other phones. So, did I nedd to flash my phone to remove all Vodafone functions, and so enable bluetooth file transfer, or I must do something else? I'm from Bosnia & Herzegowina, using our local mobile operator network, so we haven't Vodafone here. The phone is originaly from European Union.

It plays wma - not advertised ('though official - see Wikipedia under wma), but a nice feature which I found by chance one day B-) I like being able to put whatever music/ video I like on it *without* DRM getting involved as happens with some brands. 1G transflash works fine; will try 2G once they get cheaper B-) USB interface is much slower than putting the memory card in a reader. Headphones on handsfree sound fine. Video quality is fine - Motorola figured right that 16-bit colour is enough for a 3.8 x 3 cm screen B-) Great phone for the price.

when it says some settings maybe changed i just turn the phone off and then wipe where the connections are and wipe the card as well and boom allgood this doesnt always work so you may have to keep doing it

Had this phone for over 12months, it is pretty good, internet works well, java mp3 player works well, it is annoying that the memory card is internal, but I never take it out anyway. Camera is a bit bad, but the phone was cheap, best Moto I have ever used, but I am moving to a new phone.

It can only accommodate up to 512 micro SD memory cards, so 1 Gig is out of the question and despite it it still has difficulties in reading 512 memory cards so expect minor mishaps.. But in the long run, it's not that that bad, plus it looks good in white!(^_^)

To everyone having software issues with this device: go to a Motorola service and ask them to upgrade the phone's firmware. The latest version solves most of the problems you people have. I know this, because I had them too, and now I don't have them anymore. E770 is a bad phone with the old software, but a decent one using the newest firmware.

This is the first time I have ever written a review for anything but this phone is so bad I just had to. Some of it's flaws include - having to turn the phone off and then back on every time I want to use the camera as it always says "Picture Capture Failed", I use it as my alarm clock but on occasion I set the alarm and it doesn't go off which is very irritating and keeps me awake all night wondering if it will go off when I have important things to get up for like catching a plane, sometimes all of the sounds turn into the same sound - your ring tones, mp3's and alarms then all become the same sound, a couple of times I have noticed it making a very quiet buzzing sound. I also find the predictive text to be ridiculous because it can only remember about 10 words that you teach it so you find yourself spelling out the same words over and over again (might as well not use predictive), the calender is inferior compared to my old Nokia as it doesn't have a specific function for storing birthdays. My girlfriend has the same phone and she doesn't have all of the same problems but she does get the picture capture failed error a lot and her alarm has not worked on a couple of occasions as well, she also dislikes the predictive txt and it's small memory. I will never buy Motorolla again and will advise all of my friends to do the same. The only other brand I have tried is Nokia (had 3 of them) and even the simplest cheap one was better than this - I look forward to returning to using them as this phone was expensive and the worst piece of junk ever!

i am from South Africa and i have something on my mind about the E770. i am very dissipointed of this motorola. i have the E770 and its the most irritating thing. i have to use it until next year. i would rather use my nokia 3310. its not a bad fone but battery life is to short and the fact that i can not check my E-mail via the fone is also irritating, and the crap camara does not come in handy. for the technology today this fone realy needs some more desighning for its price. all round its not a bad fone but im, realy dissipointed. it's app. need to be updated and i realy wouldn't tell a friend to buy one , and to tell you the truth, i am not fond of being seen with this fone. if one disagrees, please let me know thank you joggie [email protected]

it's a good phone. especially if you love listening to music. i'm currently using a 512mb micro SD. the battery is so-so. the camera is not so good. sometimes, it shows "picture capture failed". but lately, my phone doesn't show that anymore. as a student, i'm really having fun with this phone, putting lots of songs and wallpapers.

if anyone of you is experiencing problem when you take pictures using your E770 it goes back to the main menu,the problem is simple, it means that you dont have enough space in memory ( external or internal) just change where you want to save the pictures, make enough space for your pictures!

Nice phone and easy to use but the battery life is terrible. I'm lucky to get 7 hours out of the battery before I have to charge it, if I'm using it make it 4 hours. Camera quality is also quite poor.

This phone is great....with my 1 gb micro sd card.. i can view more 3gp videos.. play mp3 songs..and add more applications/ games..It can also act as a removable drive for other documents..battery charging can be done in 2 ways (using computer usb port or using the supplied charger.. using a third party software .. it is possible to add more skins (mine has 7 excluding the default skins..change startup and shutdown images..improve picture and video quality and others.. video streaming is good.. when 3g signal is available..ive tried it here in the philippines..media player can play numerous audio format including mp3,aac,wav,mid,etc. pairing with bluetooth headset is easy..

aditza26 - no, it has only one speaker. Loudness is almost the same, and quality of sound are equal with E398 and E1 (I had have them both before E770). But it has A2DP stereo bluetooth option and I use it with Motorola HT820 stereo BT-headphones. More, it has CPU about 1.5 times faster that E398, supports 256 kbps MP3 bitrate, and it's program interface seriously improved. Radio module improved also, the phone keeps the gsm network and bluetooth devices beter. Screen is surely better, especially on sunlight - half of brightness is enough. Seems that engineers have read all users' complaints fn fixed almost all of bugs that was in E398/E1. If you like E398, you'll love E770. Don't doubt, just buy it and have fun :)

This is by far the worst phone I've ever had, besides the fact that I keep having to switch it on and off to get the USB working, just to find that the camer is not ready or picture taking failed. If I switch bluetooth on the battery lasts one day max. Probably the worst is Motorola after sales service, I haven't received any answers from their support department on any of my queries. Their service is as poor as their product.

The phone is not so ugly as on the picture. It can play MP3 for ringtone ! There are some software problems. Even after software update they still exist like the error on the camera and if i want to make picture i have to restart it. My phone can make video up to 1 hour. The battery life is about 4 days if you not use it a lot. And remember, if your phone is unlocked never use Motorola Software Update because phone will be locked again after the update !!! I like this phone because it offers a lot of functions for cheap price.

Hi there. I have bought this phone around 9 months ago and I am actually enjoying that but getting REALLY FRUSTRADED with software issues this phone has. Many registries get corrupted on contacts, have lost many phone numbers already, and many other small issues like camera that gives an error sometimes, and stuff like that. The way to fix it is "format" the phone totally, but it will solve the issue for a certain that only. Once i am not on Europe (just bought the phone and traveled back to my country), I cannot send that to vodafone for a firmware/sftware upgrade, and also I cannot find that anyware. Does anyone know where the sft/firmware upgrade can be downloaded?I have used that motorola update software also but it says no sft availabe for upgrade, but I have read many people who returned it to vodafone who did the update and solved the issues. Coud someone please help me on that? I getting annoyed and thinking on sell it once I cannot get a solution. Almost throw it at the wall many times. =P Despite of that, it's a really good phone. Only way 2 access recieved calls again after saving numbers from there is to delete the numbers u have saved from recieved calls in the phone book.

Good phone but i'll start with faults, the camera is ok 4 viewing on phone itself but not 4 printing pictures. Do not save numbers people have sent u from recieved calls as this will stop u accessing recieved calls n take u to main menu when u try, only save numbers by typing numbers in manually. Do not edit numbers already saved this will stop u accessing the number again and take u straight 2 main menu, write number down delete it from phone n start again. If phone starts 2 turn itself off its the battery not phone. If u cannot save photos turn phone off remove battery n start again. U cannot put photos in seperate files the more photos u have the longer it takes to open pictures up. All said though as long as u realise and accept these faults its a great phone and great value.

hey ive had this phone for about 8 months now and here are what i consider the strengths and weaknesses GOOD mp3 clarity,games,speed,video playback BAD camera,picture quality,talk time,video length(be warned the video length is limited to 30seconds without a memory card , and with one its limited to 3 minutes , so dont get this phone is you're interested in lengthy videos) all in all i would say this an okish phone and its the best so far ive had and i would recommend to anyone would like music .

Very good phone but beware of the following errors which could lead to enless frustration: PHONEBOOK keep a backup of all information in phonebook in safe place since phonebook sometimes after adding new contact refuses acces to that contact. SOUNDS if you create create playlists, it adds some songs more than once, and then refuses acces to both songs. BLUETOOTH you must stand absolutely still in the vicinity of another bluetooth device to astablish a bloothoth link. If anybody has found a "cure for this problems, please let me know.

I have now had this phone 6 months and overall it's been a decent phone. But i've encountered many problems with it. It doesn't allow me to see missed calls or recently called numbers. Sometimes when i want to phone someone it throws me back to the main menu. It doesn't always save my photos which is a pain etc. etc. Its also started to turn itself on and off on its own accord. I need a reliable phone which is why i am getting a new one this week! But all in all its been the best phone i've ever had.

My phone is from Spain too, this phone has many problems as "Picture capture failed" and i have a problem with the mp3's from the memory card. When i play mp3 with Digital Audio Player the song stops for a second and then ok and then stops again. But when i play it without this player its ok. After Software update the problems still exist.Now i understand why this phone is so cheap :( The sound is very good but, the phone looks cool, but like people from the gsm service in my town says "It's Motorola". Sorry for my bad english.

I bought this phone from Vodafone (Spain). The phone worked fine during the first 5 weeks. After that I would try to access the menu with the joystick and the menu would escape to the welcome screen. This happened for about 3 weeks, then one day I plug in the charger it read, "invalid battery". Send the phone to Vodafone got the phone back 1 month after "in repair" supposevely with only the software upgraded, then phone was in worst condition. Send the phone back and after 1 month they still have the phone: they've had to change BOTH cameras, the motherboard, the housing for the camera. I can't understand how Motorola has this piece of sh*t out on the market. They should do a mayor recall and give the owners another phone same characteristics 3G. My friend who also owns a E770v told her phone started to miswork: camera doesnt work, and she cant place any calls. Someone please tell me how do I flash this phone. Once I get it back. I want to take the crappy Vodafone menu out for good. Mp3 works fine, you can play tunes without the headset. Menu is simple and clear. Thanks and hope this all helped.

my daughter bought a motorola E770v a few weeks ago and could not get the back cover on so we returned it the lady in the shop replaced it and the cover went on easy enough for her but at the weekend my daughter remover it to remove memory card and guess what we cant get it back on anybody else got this prob, she likes the phone and does not want to ave to replace it.

Yes it will lock it again because it will recognize the Bulls�%&$ from Vodafone - i tell u this from personal experience. VODAFONE not only changes the layout.icons, colors etc... they actually "REMOVE" entries from the software to their own BS!!! whenver you update then the software will downlaod the "VODAFONE VERSION" of the upgrade and u r back to ZERO!

Just one thing, does anyone else notice that having the alarm on runs the battery dead? Does it run as if a Java application? I find that when i set the alarm the phone is running low by the time its 6am and im woken up by the battery low not the alarm :(

I have a few problems with the software on this phone. 1. When the battery is near flat the phone starts beeping. This always seems to happen in the middle of the night, waking me up. Can this feature be turned off? 2. When I have missed a call the phone starts beeping every 3 minutes or so, until I unlock it and aknowledge that I have missed the call. Can this feature be turned off? 3. I call someone, the conversation ends and the other person hangs up. My old Nokia used to terminate the call at this point. This phone keeps the line open until I press the hang up button. I am now used to this but it did cost me a bit of money until I relized that the phone didn't hang up automatically. Does most phones work this way? 3. I have a bluetooth handsfree device. It works fine, but sometimes I leave it in the car without turning it off. Even though I am out of range the phone is still acting as if the device is present. If the phone rings people can not hear me because the phone only accepts audio input from the bluetooth handsfree device, located in the car 2 kilometres away. Most phones can detect that the bluetooth device is not in range and switch to the normal microphone automatically? Or am I wrong? 4. If I am in the middle of something I may want to have a look to see who is calling, before picking up. With this phone, pushing any button on the phone answers the call, not just one specific button as was the case with my old Nokia. Great care must be taken when removing the phone from the belt, or the call will be answered wether I want it or not. Can this be changed? 5. I believe I have looked through all menus on the phone, I can't seem to find a auto-lock feature for the keypad. Is such a feature available? 6. A lot of people complain about that my voice is echoing when I am using this phone. Anyone else with this problem?

i bought this phone a few months ago. i think it has the best price/performance ratio on the market, it's almost half the price of a nokia 6230, with superior features when it comes to the mp3 player and speakers. All in all, , at this price, this phone is amazing, sure, the camera fails from time to time, but that happens also on nokias. the battery lasts about 2 days if you play music on it and use it frequently, if not, about 4-5 days, with moderate use..if u get a memory card, you won't need an mp3 player anymore..:D

Steer clear of the E770! Endless problems with it... it changes ringtones of its own accord and the alarm works when it feels like it and yes, I've noticed that the snooze option isn't always available! Worst phone I've ever had

Wouldn't recommend it at all - Not good for texting - basic Nokia much faster and easier to use - and the snooze function on the alarm doesn't work if the phone has been turned off prior to the alarm going off.

Trevor Aldrin Matanj: E770 speakers are very nice indeed! for a small room they can be cranked up and sound as good as small portable stereos (well if you are facing the back of the phone where the speakers are :P) . With the MoTorola USB headphones plugged in the sound quality is AMAZING! infact its better than my creative MuVo mp3 player which is 3 yrs old and very basey sounds great! i am planning of buying a 512 or 1gb(is 1gb supported?) card and dumping my mp3 player and using this as a phone+mp3 player its so good.

People have no fear, even i didnt get the driver CD with it, just the USB cable. Just go to > www.motorola.com > Products and Services > Select you Country > Select any phone > Top Left corner drop menu select E770v > Click on Support > Software Then simply follow simple instructions u can download softwares USB drivers and update them to latest editions.

I got this phone about 2 weeks ago and im really glad i did. At first i had a problem with the fact that it did not have a mega pixel camera, but i decided to take it anyway because it had space for a memory card and im glad i did. The camera quality is good for video calling and it is also good for when you are watching movies in full screen. The stereo earphones also complement this very well. It has a 176x220 pixel display in 262,000 colours, the main camera gas a VGA resolution with a 4x digital zoom. Another bonus is that the MP3's play nice and loud as well!!!

My E770 w/ 1G MicroSD card is fine. You can put 7-8 MP4/3GP video inside (approx. 45min each). It has excellent display on full-screen movie & wonderful sound effects throught stereo headphone. I can save the money from buying an extra MP4 player....

Well not all Motorola phone has this BUG as described here. Maybe just this model. I happen to own 3 different kind of Motorola such as.... C651, E398, Rokr E1. All working well and fast too. Just bought this phone a week ago, and so far am very impressed. One thing I haven't worked out how to do - hopefully it's possible. Is there any way to change the ringtone for a contact, but still have the default message tone? For example - if I change a contact's ringer ID to say a 30sec ringtone, it will also play that 30sec clip when a txt message comes in from them too! Very annoying! What I would like to do is have that ringtone for phone calls, but the default one for messages. Is there anyway to do this? The only way I can see is the global setting that applies to everyone - i'd like to do that for an individual contact. Kind of defeats the purpose of ringer ID's for each contact if it's going to ring for 30seconds or more each time a txt message comes in??!!

Whoever designed the user interface on this phone should be utterly ashamed of themselves. It's one of the worst pieces of software I have ever encountered. Whoever conspired to also design the rest of the software on this phone ALSO should be ashamed, as it continually and repeatedly locks me out of various functions (i.e. it decides who I can call in my phone book, it sporadically locks out some functions in the menu). Switching off then on sometimes solves these problems but not always. This is utter garbage. If it actually cost me any money I'd be extremely angry, but luckily it was a free upgrade. Never going Motorola ever again!!

hi, yes this phone does work with outlook. and bluetooth on this phone is a real pain. its realy stupid. you go to send something, so you go options send via blutooth and then search for devises. bt nope it dont work. you have to select the file you want to send options, copy then via bluetooth and search for devices.

what can i say? nothings wrong with the moto for a start but can have breakdowns but thats a another issue. to send pics and music to your moto from your pc you should have a disc and cable in the box when you bought or can be purchased seperatly from carphone warehouse.then you install the software on your computer and follow the simple steps and walla!

Ok to get 3 minute clips you need a memory card (trnsflash/microSd) try memorybits.com can get 1 gb card for less than �30/ arround$40 go into video camra... then goto options video setup video legnth maximum (when memorycard is inserted) on a 1 gb card should get arround 940 clips.. but the limiter goes to 540 odd.. but carrys on recording after that.. also the camra when a 1 gb card is inserted says 1000 pictures left.. actualy has arround 10k :) and i guess you romainians realy like this phone alot of comments start with "Hi, im from romania..." Well enjpy and i hope this helped you.. oh yeah a good place to get java games for free when you have the card card adapter and a card reader (most micro sd/transflash card come with Sd adapter from memorybits) Well anyway to get the java games most the other parts on this forum/site are.sis which is a smart phone format so dont bother downloadin any of them.. although yuo can look arroudn.. there are also pc games up for donload :) Dotsis.com if you want to eplore your self.. :P there are alot of games on there the motorola E770v can have around 700 applications installed... hehe but the apps folder takes ages to load.. i have had the phone for half a year now and have had it replaced several times. it still dosnt work. i originally got it as it ahs video calling and it worked great for the fist 2 months and then started to what i've just read on teh 14 or so pages below me. it jus dosnt work. the camera gives me an error message and refuses to voice call for some reason. after a 6 months i am about to give up. it just annoyes me now as the camera and contacts refuse to work. and my freinds that have it have the same problem while motorola wont help us. so we had to get it replaced through vodafone(atleast the helped). i would say this phone would only be good if it somehow got these problems erased. if it isnt fixed i will proceed to ignite it or drop it over iraq in the hopes of it being bombed

I have looked around and hoped it isnt just me but it seems i'm not alone. this phone isnt all it's worked up to be. for some reason even after software upgrades the camera still dosn't work. i do not recommend this phone cause it just dosnt work it dosnt turn on half the time and likes to play a game called lets annoy the consumer. the features are brilliant but they dont work which is a shame.

Highly disappointing. I have had this phone since December 2005. I am onto my 3rd one. I got my 1st one fixed as they screen just stopped working properly and the camera as well and bluetooth. Then after it hade been replaced with a new screen and they updated the software and fix the camera it screwed up again and Bluetooth still does not work! Camera stop working could not connect to the internet, could not send txt, could not get into the main menu and my phone would just turn off when it felt like it and would not turn back on, and I could not call or receive calls and what was a phone made for?!?! By this time I was very annoyed so I complained to Motorola. Well they just discarded my complaint. I complained 3 times and finally on the 4th when I called them up the decided to help. Me. They gave me Motorola e770v. Which like the other one stop working within a week!. Same faults camera txt menu Bluetooth ect, and it had had there latest so called software update (which has never fixed a thing yet). But no Motorola failed again! Now I am on to my 3rd phone which I am taking back this weekend to hopefully get a new 1 that will work but I doubt that it will.

This phone is shocking. Motorola has failed very very badly. The camera just gives me a lovely image called picture capture failed or a nice bunch or pink and blue pixels brilliant colours isnt it!? the picture looks like it's been shot and then run over by a car several times in the rain. the screen is shakey and looks like a grenade blew up right next to it. and the bluetooth fails or dosn't pick up other phones(i have tested with the nokia 6630 and other phones of the similar year. For some reason i cant access my gallery at times. and the phone has now gotten a mind of it's own and like to turn off and on when it feels like it. my freind also has the excat problem and no i havn't dropped it as it was 600$ and i didnt want to waste it. but that has now become aparent as motorola has done that for me. i've taken it back and gotten a so called software update and had it replaced. but it jus does the same tricks after about a month. it's like putting a fork in a toaster it just dosn't work. the only thing it does do properly is play games that came on it as it dosn't like the compter for some reason. But the games only work when the phone dosn't want to turn off. I do not recommend this phone to anyone unless you're buying it to drop out of a 747.

This phone is absolute rubbish. Normally when i buy a phone i expect it to work and perform well but this so called new technology failed miserably. The camera Dosn't work. the inbox wouldnt open and the messages wouldnt send. i am unable to call and recieve incomong calls and video calls. i have had it replaced twice and had numerous so called software upgrades. Motorola completley discarded my complaint and wouldn't replace my phone until i called them again a month later and asked what was happening. After i got it replaced it worked fine for a few months until yet again the wonders of motorola strikes again. everything failed. to start with it was everynow and then and slowly progressed like a disease. I have since had teh phone replaced two more times and numerous more software upgrades and the problem hasn't been fixed. i ask you motorola what were you thinking?. If you want a phone that only turns on when it feels like it and the quits like a 5 year old running a marathon then this is the phone for you!

The motorola EV770 is absolutley useless. I have had the phone from December 2005. I have had photo capture failure, screen failure andblue tooth failure, I have had this phone back to to store that I purchased it from 5 times. The phone has been replaced with a new one twice and the two replacement phones as well as the original have all had software upgrades. All three phones have failed in the same areas. Do not get one.

hello! i have the phone for a month almost and yes it's a great phone. But i have just like everybody else teh same problems with the camera and contacts. I am from Romania and about the skins---as much as i figured out it ain't that simple. you have to use a program P2k and delete teh skin files thata are already on your phone and then put the new ones in their place and there is the risk tahta it may not work...and i don't thimk someone would like that. anyway it's ok i recomend it:D!!

i had my e770v for a few months now, and yes, sometimes it fails to capture an image, but that-s not the point, who buys this phone should not expect to take pics with the quality of w800 or n90 ,i only bought this phone for the memory card, as far as the mp3 player goes, it rocks! loud speakers, even louder headset, easy handling and robust. Overall, it's a good phone, if you don't expect to hack the planet with it :)) anybody knows where i can get free java games? anyway..this is the best phone i had, the battery is great, the sound..etc etc...

Battery, Oh my word. 5-7hours of standby time Maximum. Is this a common problem with the phone? Secondly, what's wrong with the adressbook. After editing a contact it refuses u acces, unless you recreate the contact? Does anybody experience the same problem? What are the sollution? I have been very disapointed with this phone and would not recomend it. I have had the same problem with the camera as one of the other writers- it most often does not capture the picture. It also will randomly stop working and to make or recieve calls you have to turn it on and off again. The light stays on while it is charging also- has anyone elso got a problem with this? I charge my phone at night beside my bed and the light is very bright.

Ok, Well basicaly... this phone is great... my last phone was a Sharp Gx22 (also very good for its time..) The only problem i have with this phone is when i put 800 + songs on the memory card (i bought a 1 gb microsd/transflash card from Memorybits.com �30 quid... hehehe :P argos were seeling a 512 for nearly 50) oh yeah, and if somone could tell me if there is a way to get flash lite on this phone, i would be very greatfull :)

I bought two e770v phones and have had trouble with both of them. with one of them the camera fails to capture the image nearly all the time and only works if you turn the phone off and then turn it back on again, and the other one seems to have minor glitches from time to time, like when I store a contact it might not let me send that contact a message and will just send me back to the home page if I try to edit the contact, my only way around this is to delete the contact and start again. I'm not very impressed with what is an expensive phone.

For PC software, look for Motorola Phone Tools 4, it's the best PC software for e770 and u don't need software for the usb cable. It's easy to install and it works . :).It's a good phone, but the software it's a disaster;if u had money, my advice is to buy a nokia or a samsung. and somebody could tell me where i can find an update for my soft ?

the reason you may be having problems with this phone is the memory card it comes with especially if you got the 2 for 1 deal. It s the kingmax mem card. try re-formatting the mem card but you will loose all data that is stored on it.

Camera Not Working.... I have some problum with my Motorola E770v Camera and when i click the Camera Menu it gives me the message (Busy. Try Again.). I have rebot the fone several time but in vain. also switched off the phone and reinstall battery, Sim, Memory Card but the result was same as in the first case...... I alway lock my Phone Yesterday i received a missed call i unlock my phone to see the number, but the missed call menu was invisible, the missed call reminder beeps after every 5 minutes which indicates that i have to view a missed call with missed call menu invisible... I have bought my fone 2 weeks ago and its lifetimer is no more than 30 minutes....but it has Certain Critical Uncertainities...... Seriously, I would advise any people buying this phone to avoid it. It has great features and is a really good phone, but it is so dismally let down by software faults it's just stupid. I'll see if the Motorola software updates do anything useful, if not I'll make a warranty claim and try to get my money back.

it's a very good phone, but with some soft problems, till now i had problems with my camera but i restarted my phone and then was ok, the sound is incredible for a phone, the photos are ok and the soft for pc has 86 mb , i think u can find it on dc ++, i'm from romania and about the usb cable, u can use one from your camera or u can buy one, the price is around 10 $.

I livin' in Romania, and Motorola E770 is good mobile phone. It connect him verry fast to my computer , it has a very good management in his software! Sometimes i had to reboot my phone to make pictures , but then is ok! The pictures must be taken in a good light. The mp3 player work great! Nice Phone!

i found that driver in less than 5 minutes... and it does not work!... i plugged it inuseing my micro usb cable *windows bepped and said new hardware detected* Ran the driver software.... nothing :O it said please connect you phone via the usb... plugged in phone with usb cable again yet... NOTHING! it installed it as a modem but what use it that :O also the handset manager doesnt work and i have tried the software *drivers and handset manager* on all 6 of my pcs and nothing worked :(

About sms: I have already 104 inbox and 29 outbox so there is no simcard limit. is a good phone. verry good display, the usb cable is verry common, you can find at any pc store. the java aplications are limited to 30. here's my comment... 1.sms number of inbox is dependent to simcard. if your simcard is capable only for up to 8 inbox, then that would be your maximum number of inbox. 2.camera pixel is only around 0.3megapixel.. it was too low compared to other brand and model. 3. camera shotter speed is very slow. if you shot to a moving object, surely, it will become blurred in the result. 4. battery life time is shorter compared to other model. it will reached you only up to 3 days in stand-by mode, while others can reached up to 7 days. 5. hscsd and edge, not compatible. 6. display screen is only 65k, while others now reaching to 262k. 7. only a 100us$ difference to other 3g phone. (means price is still high for its features.) 8. games is very limited. you have to download yet to add more games. 9. they did not include product specification in the user's manual. 10. yes, camera often failed to shot. 11. you have to look for such original USB cable which is not easily available in most market. 12. there's no manual setting of MMS activation. 13. i'd rather sell this and try V3i.

Torque, I'm glad you learn the trick quickly on the kjava (hidden on your t-flash or internal memory)folder to install games ;), by any change did you learn this from my posting in motofans.com on the guy looking to install java games on his V980?? If yes, I'am glad. You could install the java games on internal or external memory is your choice. It doesn't only work on my E770v, but also E1000, and V975. It should work on all Moto own OS, starting E398. Goodluck to all of you.

I bought a E770v about a week ago, and i`m already having issues with it. First it was the netork not working, though it was working for my other friends. Then the camera not taking pictures, not listing the missed, dialed and recieved calls, after adding a contact, couldn`t call him from the phonebook (the wallpaper appeared). The thing is all these problems solved themselves. I mean i didn`t do anything and the phone works fine now. If it wasn`t for those problems, it would`ve been a great phone. PS: As a answer to "how can you install java applications using the data cable": create a new folder in the MMC (besides "Audio", "Pictures", "Video"), called: "kjava" , and copy there the .jar files. Then go to the phone`s menu --> Games & Apps --> Install New , and the applications will be listed there.

had the phone for 2 weeks photos when i sent them to pc or other phones just ended up with blurry lines took it back they returned it 3 weeks later fixed but then the camera just froze and stopped working so its gone back again I have asked for a refund and no chance ,what a dreadful service and still no phone. Any mini USB cable will work (can be bought for a few pounds on the net). You don't have to have the Motorola software to transfer files to the phone (but it does allow you to sync Outlook with the phone). If you read through the posts on this site there are many expalining how to copy files from PC to phone without any additional software...

Have had this new phone for about 2 weeks, and everything seems to be working fine. However, I'm a little annoyed at Vodafone talking up the phone, and the 'free memory card' blah blah, only to find that i have to purchase the USB cable to make most of the features actually work. ...and that will cost another $70! My Canon camera USB cable fits, but will this work or does it need to be a Motorola usb? Vodafone also send to download the software from the internet, but I can't find it anywhere. Can anyone help?

Aparently no one has had the problem that I've had with my e770v. I've had it since last christmas and, lately, it became somewhat slow so I decided to take action and erase all sorts of files I had put in it (music, games, etc). Then I erased some hidden files from the memmory card. The phone was alright again... Until I turned it off, and back on. It wouldn't go past the Vodafone welcome sign. Since then I've been using the phone without the memory card and they both work ok, independently. If anyone was so kind as to send me to my email all the original files, hidden ones too of course, I would be most obliged! thanks, tiago

To anyone having trouble synchronising the motorola e770 all you need to do is update the phone tools program eventualy after many updates your phone will be detected

My phone has had many of the problems listed, contacts missing voice dialing not working voice dialing not recognising went to vodaphone who made it better but stopped it from roaming so it only worked in 3G areas now I fixed that only problem is is cannot find my bluetooth head set, it finds other BT phones just not my headset. I have a big problem when trying to synchronize with Outlook. My version of Mobile Phone Tools doesn't recognize the model E770v and I got all the updates with no results (heaps of models but e770v). The Bluetooth services seldom work and trying to synchronize with the standard BT services says that the phone doesn't have the PIM sync service. Any idea about how to synchronize it?

I had same probs with bt connectivity. Solved it by selecting file for transfer and selecting options..manage..copy..bluetooth..find device. You should have no problems finding other devices now.

For all those who dony know how to to download from your computer this is how 1. you need to bye or get a usb cable and memory card for your phone 2.turn off phone and insert memory card the booklet that came with the phone will tell you how to insert the memory sard 3.turn phone back on go to usb in connectivity and select memory card as your defult connectionthen plug in your phone 4.make sure your pc is on it should then atomatically install as a removable disk dive the go to my computer you should see the removable disk drive then double click on it and onpen the file 5.when this is done minimize it and go to where your music is storedopen that file then maximize the one you minimized befor and click and drag the selected files to the removable disk drive when done click he small icon in the the bottom right corner safley remove hardware click it and it shold open then click ok and stop then plug your phone out and go to usb and select defult connection put it back to data and your ready to go

USB CABLE CONNECTION TO PC Maybe i can help. I bought the Motorola USB PC220 cable (+CD). Then installed the software included on the CD, and updated it. It has that function somewhere on the interface (settings i think). It downloaded 2 updates, one of which 52MB. After that, it recognized the phone and works fine now. ------------ HELP ON: SCREEN DEFECT A few days before i installed the software on my PC, something odd happened. So i guess it's not related. Can someone please HELP MEEE !! :) I bougth e770v in Germany for 99.5 euro in Vodafone. It has 32mb integrated memory. I havent got any usb cables, software or additional memory card or anything. Now, can anyone explain me how to connect my phone to PC via USB. Do I have to have a special USB cable (i tried using usb cable of my camera). I have this phone since Christmas, and was very enthusiastic for a while. But I got more and more disappointed as I encountered erratic problems. 1) From time to time, after customizing a contact (ringtone or picture), it loses the name-number association, and I have not yet identified the specific combination of cause, neither after exactly what it recovers the association back. 2) the recent history (received/made calls) got apparently lost: I could not access the lists any more. After making a reset, I got back to the initial configuration without losing data (phonebook, pictures...), and the problem is only half solved: the received call list is there, but I can scroll it below the contact shown in one screenshot. The made call list is still not accessible. I contacted Motorola on the web, they think the phone can be faulty, and suggest to carry it to the service. After reading the related opinions on this site, I suspect it is more a problem of VERY BAD SOFTWARE. Since I work in computer science, I know that there are good and bad sw. Good sw wouldn't let users to inadvertently mess up the phone with improper inputs. I suspect that even by reloading all the original sw and memory, problems will rise again sooner or later in the future. What do you think about? Probably not as much an high quality phone...

Voice recorder: Go to messaging, then create new message and you can select new voice message. (or create multimedia message, and you can add voice to that) As far as I know thats the only way to record voice.

If you go to the phone setup menu, you can check free space which will show if you have a card or not. If you find you do, and you're getting the 'insert disk message' (which I often get) then keeping the USB cable connected, turn off the phone, then back on again and click on the drive letter, then it should work. ^^^^^^^

I really need help with a problem i'm having in the conectivity to my computer. For a while it was all fine, could connect my phone to my computer and transfer pictures and mp3s without any problems, but now it won't work, and i have no idea why. I connect it to my PC, and on the phone it says connected, and it makes a ding noise on the computer, and if i go to remove hardware safely, it shows it is connected, but when i go to removable disk drive, it doesn't seem to register anything connected... Thanks to the person below for the tip on why I keep losing the ability to access my phone contacts. Don't have two numbers of the same type under one contact!!! That's been driving me nuts for days, occassionally it does work, then it doesn't and you've lost your contact! Motorola Phone Tools also has some serious issues with this phone. Lost all the messages on my phone because I tried to update several contacts at once and it crashed. I also can't copy a file larger than about 50k from my computer to the phone. Haven't figured out how to connect two e770v phones through bluetooth, that just seems really dumb. Other than that, just general annoyances, the predictive text alaways knows what i want to say, and makes that the last option on the list, my charger broke after the first time I used it, why is the text inbox and outbox so far down the list of message locations, why does the camera on my friend's phone only work half the time, why can't I see which number a text came from if that contact has more than one possible source? Seriously, I would advise any people buying this phone to avoid it. It has great features and is a really good phone, but it is so dismally let down by software faults it's just stupid. I'll see if the Motorola software updates do anything useful, if not I'll make a warranty claim and try to get my money back.

I have just bought a motorola e770v mobile and so far have had nothing but problems with it. The first problem was trying to connect the phone to my pc but that is sorted now. I had to go back to vodafone shop and get the motorola phone tools cd which was not supplied in the box. the next problem is bluetooth which i see alot of people on here are having problems with. I have a tomtom go 700 which i try to connect to my mobile. It finds it no problem but can not connect to it. I went to the phone shop and they said it is probably the bluetooth software and to update the tomtom, which i did but it still wont connect. Any ideas? All in all a nice looking phone with lots of features. Bluetooth lets it down so i'll give it 7/10. Anyone out there figured out blutooth yet, let me know how you did it. Eddie

Does this phone have good 3D java acceleration (does it lag in java games?) Can it run java apps straight from the card, or play mp3 from the card?

I think it`s great. The camera (VGA) it's better than other ones of the same category, the display it's amazing, really bether than others with more colours. You can play mp3 (has a multimedia player to listen with headphones) and use them as ringtones (you can have one for each contact on your list) or send them by bluetooth. Can recognize the voice without pre-recording it and has a great hands free. It's hard and resistant (fallen on the ground twice). Perhaps a little big, but no more like other 3G ones.

if you ever have a problem with this phone within your warranty period (usually 12 months) TAKE IT BACK FOR IT TO BE SERVICED!!! if its still under warranty its free for goodness sake. Ive seen these phones go away for service which have data coruption and memory card issues (which i see have been asked about on here) and 95% of the time they replace the phone (here in NZ anyways) or upgrade the software. But if i were to pick a phone, it wouldnt be this is one. There are ALOT of software and memory card issues with these phones, stay away if you can :)

Do Not Buy this Phone from vodaphone in Australia. Most of the vodafone live features are not available in australia. Motorola dont even list this phone on the australian web site. Worst of all, you have to buy the software/driver as an accessory to sync with pc etc, and the phone does not auto lock the keypad, and it unlocks the manual lock when a call is received before u can get it out of your pocket. I am going to take it back in the morning. A complete waste of time and money.

I've found no voice notes to record, but voice messages to build. To do so, go to create a new message and select "new voice message" (translating from spanish). You can record a voice clip and send it via MMS (supose).

One question about my Motorola E770 phone that I hope somebody will be able to answer: When I plug my USB cable into the pc and then into the phone, the phone thinks it is charging and the battery begins to flash and the words charging appear, is this normal?? Chris, I had a similar problem except when i said 'name dial' it cleared the screen back to the main page, and not after saying a name. I rang Motoral Tech, and they suggested doing a master reset on the phone (from initial setup menu). This cured the problem for a few days, and then it did it again. I took the phone back and got a replacement, this one has never faild. Try doing a master reset, if that fails I think it could be a faulty phone...

Hi has anyone had problems with the name dialling function. I haver run the 'Adapt Digits' to setup the digit strings for recogntion and not found anywhere else that needs the same done for words. When I press and hold the green call key I get the menu - when I say 'name dial' it displays 'Voice recognition activated' I say teh name of the entry in the contacts list and the message disapears off the screen and nothing happens. Is thi teh correct way to do this or have I missed something in teh setup? Chris.

To see the kjava folder: open memory card from 'my computer' go into 'mobile' folder click 'tools' then 'folder options' click 'view' tab tick 'show hidden files and folders' UN-tick 'hide protected operating system files' Click ok and the kjava folder can be seen.

Thanks for the reply , Rich. I got the bluetooth to work on our phones. You have to select the file youre going to copy/move to another device, press options, then manage, then to move or copy, it will automatically detect the device & start the transfer. Yay. :) I have tried your solution for usb, but it still wouldnt work. Im positive that there's no memory card, I checked it myself..I guess Ill just have to get a bluetooth adaptor for my pc and a microSD..thanks again rich..:)

Are you sure you have no memory card ? the phone normally ships with a 32MB card (giving 64MB total). If you don't have one, it takes Micro SD cards (also known as Transflash) I think 1GB are now available. If you go to the phone setup menu, you can check free space which will show if you have a card or not. oh man, I still cant get the USB to work. I put it on Memory Card mode (problem is, I dont have a mem card, so my pc says "Please put disk on drive G" Im getting a memory card soon. :) What card does this phone use? I cam across another problem, my uncle and my mom has the same phone as I have, and we tried to detect each other's phones via bluetooth, but it wont detect our phones. How do I solve this?

Your camera USB cable should work, just set the phone to connect to the memory card direct. menu/connectivity//usb/memory card You don't have to use phonetools for copying to the phone, just make sure the files are in the correct format. If you are running win 2000 or xp you won't need any additional drivers. Just open 'my computer' and the phone should display as another drive.

I just got my E770v from my uncle today. Its seriously the best phone I ever had, Ive been with Nokia, Siemens, Samsung and Sony Ericssons, but this one beats them all. The manual is in spanish, but I learned how to operate the phone without the manual. Its very user friendly. The joy stick is a breeze to use. Camera quality is really nice, and the video quality is good, although it could be better. The only problem I have is connecting my phone to my pc. I have a digital camera usb cable that fits perfectly on my phone, but my pc doesnt recognize my phone. DO you guys have any drivers? Where can I download Phone tools? Thanks!

Just a reply to the last post about the quality of pictures. I found when copying pics using phone tools, it did some conversion which made the quality pretty much useless. The best way is to resize the picture on your pc and copy it straight to the memory card, don't use phonetools. Then you get excellent quality pics....

Ok PPL! Great News� after 4-6 Upgrades on Motorola Phone Tools� last one being 82 MB, I was able to finally � with the new software version upload/download from Mobile to PC! Here�s the tricky thing about the Phone Tools� you won�t find E770v but if you select Generic GSM instead it will then pick up your mobile�s modem. From there on in it is easy going with the upgrades. Please note that each time you upgrade your phone tool your not quite there until the mobile tool changes shape to match your E770v. Meaning that on the PC it should be as you see your E770v. The Multimedia feature allows you to transfer *.mp3, *.wmi & jpeg files to the Motorola E770v. And it sounds fantastic no need to download. One downside I found was downloading my Pics from Mobile to PC. Quality was a lil disappointing but I knew that looking at the specs b4 purchase... PS: If anyone finds out where to download the latest version rather then go through all those upgrades (some vary 11 - 30 MB).

Battery life is not very good, and some of the software sucks big time. Be VERY careful updating the phone book, there are several ways to make a mistake that will block access to specific contacts, and also block the recent history as well. If you add an additional number to a contact, which it allows, make sure that it's NOT the same type as another for that contact, if it gets 2 numbers as "work", then it will not allow you back into that record, and it also messes up the history if that number is in there. The only way to solve it is to find the contact that's not accessible, select it on the main screen, and delete it without opening it. That should solve the lock problem. Phone tools is no help in this case, as there are some serious compatibility issues with it and the E770V in the way it manages the phonebook. Another way to get screwed is to try to restore the phone book before reloading the music and picture files, if you have a ring tone or picture set in the phonebook, and the files are not in memory, the contact won't be reloaded into the phone. The predictive testing is strange, not as intuitive as the version I'd got used to on the (disastrous) V550 that the E770V has replaced after 3 warranty replacements in 4 months. If using phone tools, be very careful with the SIM card numbers, it's all too easy to delete them by accident, and not that easy to reinstate them. Another gotcha is that you can't use a backup from (say) a 550 to restore to a different model, the format of the files seems not to be compatible, which is not a lot of help if Vodafone has just swapped the phone and all the numbers were in phone memory. All in all, if the software was a bit nicer and not so flakey, this is probably a good phone, but with the serious holes that exist (I've already done one master clear to get out of problems, and I've only had the thing 4 days) it's going to be hard for it to be accepted.

i got my e770 when nz vodafone had the 2 4 1 deal. I did not get a usb cable or cd. My DVcamera's usb cable worked fine...cause its miniUSB. Anyone know where you can buy the miniSD memory cards? sound quality is good. textin is ok... video calling is like a webcam. Easy to use... i say 7/10.

I have the same problem, clicking on the memory card says to insert a disk. I just power off the phone, then back on again (keeping the USB connected) and then it works... Oh, and I assume you have the USB connection on the phone set as 'memory card'

To answer a couple of questions: Security code by default is set to: 000000 (six zeros) If you just want to copy files to your phone, no drivers are needed (under win xp). Just connect using a mini USB cable, set the phone connection to 'memory card' (menu/connectivity/usb) and the phone will show up as an additional drive under my computer.

The maximum length of video you can take with the camcorder on the e770 is 3 mins not 10. Mine is 3 mins anyway. But you can fit a good few 3 min videos on it.Also the one I got had a 61mb sd card (probably 64mb but in the storage device details in the phone settings menu its detected as 61mb) and the internal memory of the phone itself is 30mb.

For those having trouble with contacts, has anyone tried doing a 'master reset' on the phone ? don't think mine has had any problems since doing this. Go to settings, initial setup, master reset and it does a full reset (you don't lose any contacts or anything but items like wallpaper etc will need resetting) just a thought.....

I did also have the contacts problem. When i try to access a contact i got the home screen. This also happened to the list of called and received numbers. I got a replacement E770 and this new one had also the same problem. Now i have a SE v800, maybe this one will work fine. It's a pity because i like the phone very much.

I found that like some users complain about this E770 has bluetooth problem on searching others phone. I have the same problem and I am not sure if this is the software bug or what but for a normal phone it should be able to search others phone. I tried to search for Sonyericsson E800i,T610,Nokia 6230i and Sharp 703SH and all can't be search. I wonder if Motorola really know this problem already or will come up for a solution yet soon?

Re the contacts problem. My son's original and replacement E770 have both exhibited this file corruption. It affected mp3's contacts and pictures. Trying to access any of these files would push the phone to the home screen or hang it. I'm looking for a solution as the phone is great and I do not want to return it

There is only one connector/jack on this phone. It's of the standard mini-USB type. So you can buy a cheap cable to connect this to a PC and to charge it. So the supplied headphones are also of this type. It only appears to charge from a PC, though, when the driver is installed. This driver comes with mobilePhoneTools. This software doesn't support the E770v (you have to select Generic GSM) and the software wasn't supplied (had to get it elsewhere). Synchronisation with Outlook worked pretty well. Battery life is not very good. A few days of normal use at best (probably worse with GPRS and 3G usage). Supplied memory was 64MB and you have to remove the battery to change this. Phone looks very good and is well made. Screen is really good but camera sucks.

To answer some questions: No 3.5mm headphone socket, you use the mini usb connector (headphones came with mine-from Vodafone UK) Don't know about every mini USB cable, but I would imagine so. I have used mine with a cable from a Compaq PC and a Logitech remote control, both worked ok The phone came with 32MB internal, and a 32MB memory card. Don't know what the camera is like compared to other phones, never use them, but it certainly isn't great quality. But if you want to take decent pictues...then you buy a proper camera anyway :)

About the contacts problem, I think in total I have had 2 contacts that did this, but not for a while. I think this may have been with the phone I had to take back (as the voice dial would not work), so it could be a faulty phone you have.

Just wondering if anyone else is having trouble with the phone contacts with their E770V? I have a problem where I add x number of contacts to the phone memory, when I get to a certain point, every new contact I add is corrupt or something like that. By corrupt I mean you try to view details, or send txt to contact or anything to do with that contact, and the phone reverts to the home screen. I have seen the same problem with three others and have sent mine away to be fixed (which they reckon they fixed it), but still having the problem. I think I will return it but just interested if anyone else has experienced this?

Never mind its working ok now. I didn't know how to get the cover off either. My E770v charges only thru the AC adaptor and not thru the USB cable I use for the PC connection (my MPx200 charges with either one). Is my E770v faulty or is there a setting somewhere?

Thanks for the info on p2kcomander v3.2.2 I have tried this and it works as you say to install java games/apps :) Although the program does crash a lot, but if it lasts long enough to keep a connection to the phone then copying stuff over is straight forward (maybe it's just my PC) It can be downloaded from As for the previous comment about charging via USB cable, mine charges fine.....

This is a pretty good phone. Feels well built except for the joystick control which is a bit fiddly but better than the round button on the Nokia 6630. The miniSD card is only accessible when the battery is removed and while the 256K color screen is very sharp some fo the system fonts do not look so good. The camera is so-so but imported pictures look very sharp. One minor drawback: the phone will not charge thru the miniUSB connector (the MPX200 can do this).

Someone please correct me if i'm wrong, but from what I understand a lot of phones are 'locked' so java games/apps can only be installed by purchasing each game over the phone. There is a way of unlocking some phones so you can copy and install java games. Having serched the net I found details on how to do this on Motorola phones (but it didn't list this model - too new I guess). I thought I would give it a go anyway. The first app downloaded connects to the phone via USB, and unlocks the Java installation on the phone. It connected ok, found the phone, but after selecting to unlock the phone it couldn't do it, so I guess the software is not designed to work on this model. Also, it took about 5 mins to get the phone to switch back on ! it just gave a white screen, I thought I was going to have to it back, but it did eventually come back to life. After that I haven't tried it again ! So basically, I don't believe you can copy Java games to the phone via USB (or Bluetooth). Maybe someone will update the app I tried to work with this model...have to wait and see.

Answer for Bryan: I don't think you can have a visible indication of received messages on the screen when the screen is off. But you can set the phone to signal the received message periodically with the message ringtone. It's somewhere in the message reception setup, can't remember exactly where though. Hope that helps.

Voice dialing is simple (as long as your phone isn't faulty like my first one!). Press and hold the green answer button, after a few seconds a menu comes up and a voice says 'say a command'.From there follow the instructions given. It works very well I find. (if after saying 'name dial' it takes you back to the main screen without asking you to say a name, you have the same fault I had on my first phone. A master reset from the menus sorted it for a few days, then it went again so I got a replacement phone) If you are using a bluetooth headset, press the answer button on the headset and the same procedure then applies (make sure bluetooth is on and the voice dial is turned on under 'headset' options in the setup menu)

I got the E770v for chrstmas and it is without doubt the best phone I have ever had. There are so many features, the camera is excellent, as is the mp3 player which has brilliant sound quality. The memory card is very useful. I dont think I will ever get bored of it. I have had no problems at alll with it and the bluetooth works fine for me. The phone is very good value when you consider the amount of features it has and the low price. I would strongly recommend anyone to buy it. do not buy the v1050 as it does not have bluetooth and is getting old now.

About the video formats some were talking before, I personally use another program distinct from phonetools (as my bundle didn't come with the software), like the "imToo", which changes different formats into 3gpp, which is the format my e770 reads. You have to buy it to fully use it though but you can download a free trial if you want to try it first ;).

Yes it does have mp3 ringtones. Better than the ROKR E1 ? depends what your after, the main differences are the ROKR has iTunes built in, but no 3G. So if it's music your after, maybe the ROKR is best, if you want to watch TV on your mobile, then the E770.

I know this doesn't help you, but I have had no problems connecting via bluetooth. I have tried with a Nokia N70, Philips visio 825 (old cheap phone but bluetooth worked ok) and it connects fine with my Jabra 250 and my PC with a bluetooth dongle. For sending files just follow Antonios post... As for the previous question about headphones, mine work no problem, sound comes out the headphones without any changes made. And for those that didn't get Phonetools (I guess different countries have different bundles) it won't be available for free download, as it's commercial software. You can buy it for download from cost approx �20 GBP.

In order to find other divises you need to turn on the blutooth, but don't use FIND ME. Instead go to the picture or sound that you want to send and go in PICTURE MENU press COPY and than press LOOK FOR DEVICES. Than your phone will look for other phones.

charithra,make sure your not trying to put the adapter into the phone. As far as i know the memory card is in the phone when you buy it. Have a look in beside the sim card and see if it is ther, Remember its only a micro sd card so it isnt as big as the adapter. Hope this helped you

Not tried the supplied headphones yet, will try them later. You can copy directly to the phone via USB cable, just go to menu/connectivity/USB and change the connection to 'memory card' then it shows up as a drive letter in 'my computer' You then need to make sure the files you copy are in the right format as Phonetools would convert the files for you. (ie, mp3's are ok, avi video is not)

Brilliant phone. I love it. Great camera. Just wondering though how do I get the wired headphones to work with it? I tried plugging them into the phone but the sound still came through the phones speaker. Also I didn't get any phone tools cd with the phone. Im gonna buy a usb cable soon. To convert AVI files, load the avi into phonetools using the video transfer section, and it converts the file to 3gp, which can then be copied straight to the phone or saved to the pc for transfering later. As for Bluetooth, I have only tried it with my Jabra 250 headset, and a Nokia N70 mobile, both of which have worked without a problem. I was actually surprised how well it does work :)

I just got mine a few hours ago from Vodafone NZ. Unfortunately, it didn't come with a USB cable (standard mini USB 'though, so I have one spare), and no drivers (and I can't find any on the internet). Over here, Vodafone's doing a two-for-one deal (Two E770vs for $NZ600), and I got $50 off for the boxing day sales. It worked out alright. Best. Phone. Ever. It came with a 64MB MicroSD card, which I guess makes up for the lack of USB cabling. I can still access the card as a USB mass storage device, but I need to find the drivers for this phone.

MP3 over bluetooth...I think I gave it a quick go when I was setting up my bluetooth headset. Quality wasn't brilliant, but I guess headsets are designed for voice. Maybe bluetooth headphones would be better :) Allowed to download mp3 over usb ? Well, I guess if you own the original mp3 music (ie you ripped it from your own CD) then not really a problem. Although when I bought the phone and asked if you could use mp3 ring tones, the sales guy did say some phone manufacturers dissable the option as they can end up in a legal disspute, as the music is in effect played in a public place, which has licensing issues. Not sure how true all that is though. This was also the explanation as to why Sky MTV on mobiles is MTV without the music, they are having problems with record companies about bradcasting music to mobile devices...again, don't know how true it is. The guy in the Vodafone shop also told me it was a 1.3MP camera, it certainly isn't, it's just vga (640*480). USB drivers...should have come with the Phonetools CD. If the after installing phonetools it says new hardware found, select to browse for the drivers, and point to the CD drive (containing the Phonetools CD). I also noticed today that the Vodafone shop is selling this phone for �70 if you buy �30 worth of topup. This wasn't mentioned when I bought mine (maybe for you others that bought it it was) but as I commented about it to the sales guy, he gave me �30 of top-up, so nice one there :) So now the phone works out at �70, even more of a bargain!

In answer to Johnny's question: I now believe the phone has a 65K colour display. As you say, various websites give different information. The Motorola website states 65K, and this website also states 65K (this is the website Vodafone use if you ring them for specifications). The only ones I notice stating 262,000 are the ones giving a preview of the phone. But the manual does not state the colour. Having said that, if it is 65K then i'm not bothered, as the display looks very good to me. The only thing I have noticed, is when transfering pictures to the phone, use direct card access, don't use phonetools, as this converts the image, and results in poor quality (or i'm doing something wrong!) As for is it a good phone, I'm cerainly happy with it. I don't see how you can get anything else with the same spec at anywhere near this price, the closest is the Samsung Z140, but no expandable memory option on that one. The only thing I wish was that I could get the black version, as i'm not too keen on the colour of this one, but thats the only slight niggle. I have only just noticed it supports POP3, so I can now access my NTL email account from the phone, another little bonus :) I will be interested to see if this promotion does end on the 24th Dec, and see what the price goes up to.

I agree with your comments Rich. The battery seems to get longer with each charge. Video and camera usage does tend to eat in to it, but it does in every phone i've used. I have to say that if they made this phone 2mm thinner, 1mm shorter, encased it in a metal body and upped the screen resolution to 240x320 it would be the best phone out there. Which says alot for the �90 i paid for it compared to �299 for the samsung z500 or �130 for the sony v600 which I don't think are in the same league. rgds

First of all, my last post was regarding getting voice activation to work. A quick call to Motorola sorted the problem (nice they answered the phone promptly too), they suggested doing a hardware reset on the phone (from the options menu) and this solved the problem. Now when I select 'name dial' it gives me the screen prompting you for a name. As for the phone, I can't realy complain at all. For �100 it's a decent phone, with lots of features. The bluetooth works fine now with my Jabra 250, using voice dial works very well. The call quality is very good, loud ringer volume which people seem to complain about on a lot of phones. You can also use mp3's as ringtones, the software included even allows you to edit music and copy to the phone. You can use the supplied software to sync your phone with Outlook, which was handy as all my contacts were in Outlook. The screen is very clear and bright. Sky looks pretty good, but can vary depending on signal quality. Not sure I would want to pay �5 for a package unless it improves a bit more, but i'll keep testing it over the next month (thats quality of picture, not content, that will deffinately need to improve!). I was a bit concerned that after charging the battery on the first night, it only lasted about 8 hours the next day, with little use. But having charged it again overnight, it's now been on for 14 hours and still shows battery status at 6/6 - so either the battery on the 2nd charge is lasting a LOT longer or my battery meter is messed up...soon find out :) Overall very happy (now the battery seems to last more than half a day). I wasn't sure at first about the size and colour (white edges) of the phone, but must admit it doesn't feel that big and i'm getting use to the look of it now. I needed a new phone to replace an old philips that keeps turning itself off. I was interested in a 3G phone, and wanted Vodafone PAYG but had 3 or 4 on my mind. In case it helps anyone, here's why I went for this one: Motorola E770V - 3G, Supports Bluetooth with voice dialing. Expandable memory, large good quality screen. Nice features. Samsung z140 - similar price and spec, but DOES NOT have expandable memory or voice dialing. Motorola V1050 - A bit more expensive, 1.3mp camera, but DOES NOT support bluetooth (even though the vodafone website says it does). Samsung Z500 - Too similar spec for an extra �150. Also don't think it supports voice dialing and too many complaints about battery life. Sony V600i - Again similar spec and price, but no expanded memory. So all in all, �100 for a phone with all those features, and it's easy to use, not found any problems so far (except it needing a hardware reset - hopefuly only the once), i'm very happy with it. According to Vodafone it is on promotion at �100 until Dec 24. Don't know what the new price will be, have to wait and see if that is the case.

I have had this phone for a couple of days, and will post my thoughts on it soon....but 1 question to people that have one. Have you got the voice dial to work ? I can use voice dial to speak a phone number digit by digit, and it works fine, but I can't get it to accept a name from my phone contacts list. If anyone has tried it, please let me knoe if you had any success. Rich.

its does indeed have a flash (actually a bright light, in common with other phones) it also has a dedicated camera button, so you can take pictures quickly without going through the menu rgds

dunno about the guy who compared moto with siemens. this is an awesome phone. the main corner cut is the vga camera, but as all phone cameras are complete pants this hardly make a difference to me. the best phone camera i have used is the sony 750i, but when compared to my canon ixus 700 the picture are not worth taking. this is my review of this phone: just bought a motorola e770v from vodafone shop for �90 (gave me a tenner off the official price). got a bit bored of my v3 and wanted try the new sky content on voda 3g. very impressive phone for the price, some things could be improved but can't complain for �90. + points 1. clear excellent screen (176x220) 2. bluetooth with modem profiles 3. usb cable included in box 4. stereo headphones included in box 5. expandable with transfask card (32m one included) 6. good mp3 player 7. video play back quality quite good 8. new sky channels render well and are nice when bored on a train - although no substitute for real thing of course 9. looks good 10. sits in hand well 11. feels sturdily built 12. 5 generation motorola 3g phone, have learnt alot, much less buttons then e1000 and better thought out 13. quite light, only 108 grams 14. speakerphone 15. 1900 band for usa and other country usage 16. good moto facility of being able to choose band. saves battery where no 3g available 17. browser quite good. still experimenting but actually manages to render some real html pages 18. full version of moto phone tools cd included (i.e. can sync with outlook out of the box, not like the horrible 'light' version that moto has been shipping with some phones) -points 1. only vga camera (but i don't care as i never use phone cameras) 2. to get to menu have to click joystick on main screen, no special button for this 3. joystick a bit wobbly, might just be my one, although works well 4. still thicker then 2g phone, but weight more then makes up 5. no case included (who am I kidding for �90!) 6. no radio 7. voda version has white sides which might become dirty 8. transflash card is installed under battery, although i never take this out so i don't care. I think this phone could do really well as a �200 phone. It beats the sony v600 in everything but camera (that is 1.3 mega). IMHO beats the e1000. battery life seems quite good. beats the hell out of the samsung z500 and is lasting for 3days and nights with my normal usage. in summary an awesome, well built and small 3g phone. vga camera is main downer if you are into pictures.

yes you can watch full lenght movies, just download xilisoft 3gp video converter (www.torrentspy.com), then download any movie, and use the above program to convert it, then go to Connectivity->USB and set to connect to memory card instead of data connection which is set by default. BUT... all my previous 2 reviews pretty much praised this phone... until today i got the boot loader screen all of a sudden and now it doesnt even turn on!!!! I dunno if its just my phone or not... but still... and my 14days wararnty was just over yesterdat,, bummer!

ah yeah, almost forgot, here are answers on the questions ppl had about this phone: you can play java games on it (even 3d) you can use it even when u dont have 3g coverage in my opinion the call quality is great, 8/10 no major bugs, i have noticed only one very minor one - when you dial any phone number, sometimes it says failed, but when you redial it for the 2nd time it works... strange bug but happens very rarely... about once in every 20 outgoing phonecalls 262k colour tft screen, not 65k as stated in some sources... very bright and sharp picture, i would give it 8.5/10 battery is above average for a 3g phone, about 7/10 it has vga cam, max pic res is 640x480, pic quality is about 7.5/10, the same goes for video.

The best value for money... i was in doubt as to whether i should get this phone or not... Since this time around i was on a tight budget and i wanted a 3g phone i got this motorola e770v...i owned two 3g phones before and i must tell ya that this one is way better than two of those taken together. I got it for 129.99euro on vodafone.ie with 100 euro free call cred, plus i got a free mem card and handsfree... THE BATTERY LASTED SURPRISINGLY LONG FOR A 3G PHONE! i have about 2.5 hours of video on it, which i watched for about an hour and a half, then i listened to my mp3's for about 3 hours, then watched another hour worth of video, and made about half an hour worth of phonecalls and sent about 8-10 sms's and the battery still had one bar left (out of 3 ) by the end of the day after all that usage.!!! In my opinion, this is a great phone that costs relatively very little compared to other 3g phones (i think its one of the cheapest, or maybe it was just a promotion from vodafone??) but it has all the same functions as the more expensive ones...and its smaller than most of other 3g phones too!!! So if you want a 3g phone and dont wanna spend 500 quid on it, this is right up your street! And its very stylish too in true HelloMoto fashion!

The mobile has aprox 30MB and comes with an extra MicroSD/Transflash card of 32MB. About 60MB total available. Not bad. And there are MicroSD cards up to 512MB, and 1GB is coming soon.

Anyone used it yet? its cheap for a 3g phone. If anyones tried it id like to know is camera any good for taking photos and video? how long does battery last? very important can you play java games on it? mmm I don't think motorola is seeking self destruction here by launching the E770. Sure it's functions are not the most up to date, but IMO it serves as an alright budget 3g phone - especially for people who are interested in switching from 2g to 3g but not ready to spend too much money. In order for 3g to become widespread, lower tier phones like this should be present in the market. If motorola is making a grave mistake here, that shouldn't nokia be condemed as well for launching the 1110?
