I'm using this phone and it really works great. I dnt knw y ppl post negative comments over here, Android 2.2 is released by cincinnati bell.. Juz upgrade to that or use a Dexter ROM.. That works awesome and i dont even feel that the processer is weaker as the phone works great with milestone overclock. The camera quality is good and it depends on the lighting.. This is a perfect choice for a budget phone.. The screen resolution and the clarity is mind-blowing, It still beats up Sony Xperia Arc and other mid-ranged android phones wid Amoled Display or Bravia Engine.. It has low inbuilt memory but motomiser app just makes it lite by transferring the data to SD card, so no worries, juz root ur phone and enjoy :):) Once again this is an excellent product f Motorola..

This phone is criticized a lot. When i wanted to buy a cell i read this phone's reviews here which were in fact very, misleading. I figured this out because i still bought this phone after reading all the bad comments here. People usually dont know much about mobile phones. First of all, do not install alternate useless ROMS on this phone all of them are glitchy except for dexter's froyo, i've installed a factory ROM and modified it with ICS theme and other tweaks and works great for me. Secondly motorola has made a bit of mistake by fitting a weak processor in this version but this can also be solved quite easily. Just overclock the processor via Milestone Overclock to 800 Mhz, should work fine. In a nutshell, all you need is a little more knowledge about latest technology and this phone should work great. :) P.S I would say its a great phone keeping in mind its price, camera, and sound quality. :)

i got my phone in mid December of 2010 MTN (my service provider)only had the Milestone xt720 and a Blackberry 8520 in store i had to choose and seeing that the Milestone was the latest phone to Motorola android i decided to take it 5 days to Christmas and my service provider told me they would only get new stock in January 2011. on the 8Th day after purchasing this phone it started to freeze and guess what i could not return this phone i cant even bluetooth music how ridiculous is that!! i have sent emails to motorola regarding all my ''error questions'' and have not heard from them in February it will be exactly a year since my last email... WHAT A WASTE OF THOUSANDS OF RANDS AAAAAAAAAAARRRRRRRRRRGGGGGHHHH P.S to top it all off i lost all my contacts :(

Along with all those problems, this phone also has problems with any SD card 8g and above, mine has fried 2 cards already, the only solution is to have an SD card 4g as a maximum. i am a fan of motorola, but they did screw this one bad.

Yes, u can transfer file via Blutooth tool available in Android Market, but i need FM transmitter is there any possibility. Skype Video Calling Not possible otherwise is a good phone especially browing 3G screen size , touch sensitivity and drop down resistance.

No... Motorola locked the Bootloader, can not update. You can look into hacking the phone to run difference ROMs to "upgrade", but not for the faint of heart! You need do a lot of reading on forums to make it happen.

Thats cuz yours one was hacked or something and didnt get the android market. Same thing happened to me. If you want it then you will have to restore a sbf file using rsd lite. Download the files from the first 2 points and follow the first paragraph. Rest are optional

Dear Sir, Thanks for ur comment for my previous post. I've already tried to Factory Data Setting, but it didn't work. So, I inserted the SIM card to the other handset (Sonny Erisson)and then reinserted it to my handset. After that it was ok and i can use it for SMS function. But the another problem is, i can only use SMS function with only 80 characters. If the characters are more than 80, SMS is automatically changed to MMS function. Android 2.3 doesn't need a 1ghz processor. Its been ported and is on loads of phones with less than 1ghz. I got it on my ZTE Blade which is a 600mhz ARM v6.

Good phone if you use Dexter's Froyo upgrade to Android 2.2. Very unstable and buggy on stock firmware. Much better on Froyo. Motorola does not plan to release any updates for this phone even though it's barely a year old. Avoid if you are looking for support from the manufacturer.

I am using XT720 for last 10 months and I am satisfied with the phone in almost every aspect. I do not like the design of the phone but after all there are always 2 sides to a coin. I would like to mention specially about videos and audio, somewhere on the net I read that there is no support for DivX and Xvid video files but for everyones kind information indeed they are supported and play awesome. All you need is to install Rock Player Lite application which is available on the Android market for free. It is the awesome player i have ever seen. The Rock player support almost every file format with any lenght of the video. I have used .mpg, .dat, .vob, .mp4, .avi, .3g2, .wmv, .3gp and etc. I beleive this player is the best one for your XT720. Also the music quality is superior to any other android phone in the market. You can find tens of hundreds music players and music application to fulfill your needs. Just downlaod the players best suited to you. When it comes to the Froyo 2.2 update, the only thing different in the Froyo is you can install and access your apps from SD card which allows you to install n number of apps and on the other hand gradully decreses the functioning speed as well. To do this all you need is some applications which are also available on market for free which will enable you to store and install apps on SD card...Vallllla...here you go, now you do not need to wait for FROYO. Now talking about the phone features, it spotrs AGPS which is very useful for the Maps and Compass applications. The Wi-Fi connectivity and speeds are awesome, bluetooth interface is some what slougy but you can make it work perfect using some Apps. The main thing you will feell after buying this phone is Freedom. It is the way google has designed it. You need anything, just go to Android Market site and you will find Apps for almost your every need. Currently there are approximately 1.50 Lacks applications are avaliable on the Android market itself, and you can google the android applications on the third party sites as well. Download Bluetooth File Transfer and follow below steps: For sending file from handset using Bluetooth File Transfer 1.) Open Bluetooth File Transfer. 2.) Tap on Local files to view your SD card there and open the file you want to send. 3.) Tap and hold on that file. 4.) Select send via Bluetooth (Make sure your Bluetooth is turned on). 5.) Your handset will search for nearest handset in Remote file section. 6.) The other handset will appear under Found devices option in Remote file section. 7.) Just tap on the device and then it will ask for a common passkey (1234) and your file will be send to that device. For Receiving Files in handset using Bluetooth File Transfer 1.) Open Bluetooth File Transfer. 2.) Tap on Remote files. 3.) It will ask you to turn on Bluetooth. 4.) Touch Menu Key > Search devices. 5.) Your handset will search automatically nearer device under Found device section. 6.) Just tap on the device appearing under found device. 7.) It will ask for passkey (1234). 8.) And all data of other handset will appear under remote file heading. 9.) Now just open the file you want to receive and tap and hold on that file. 10.) Select copy and then touch Local files >> SD card >> select the place where you want to copy that file. 11.) Select Menu key > Edit > Paste 12.) Your file will be transferred automatically in your handset.

My website sends my friend a txt message addressed as [email protected]. When she hits reply she sees +0000000000:[email protected] in the reply to field so when she hits send, it never gets to my website to processing since it's an invalid email address. Please try and look for a custom ROM. or you can try Apps2SD to allow for more apps on your Droid. Overall I agree the only Major dissapointment for me was the limited space for apps Especially when the market had such a huge demand for them around when the phone was created. That and the little lip on the side of the phone are the only real failings Motorola did to it.

Now I'm using this. It's very awesome. I'm a big fan to moto also. This mobile looks great color combination. Music is awesome quality. Camera is also very very fine. It's xenon flash highly impressive. Only motorola does this type of equipment in mobile cameras. Screen quality is also too good(it's 400000 pixels screen). And the big esset is 720MHz processor n 256 RAM+512 ROM. It's defenetly purchasing model. I'm using 3G also browsing is very fine. It supports 10mbps speed in 3G. Totally this phone is awesome. But it's also have demerits * low internel storage memory(150MB). It's not enough to android apps. * still this phone have no update 2.2v. * Incase many android apps 256MB RAM is not much enough to this.

Motorola does not plan to give the XT720 a Froyo update + after one year very careful use, the unit has been giving trouble. Shutting off intermittently, LEDs at the bottom occasionally stop working or continually flash. Not happy at all with Motorola. The XT720 has potential to be a winner with Froyo but.......

I have been using this Phone from past 3 months. I like my phone very much due to its look but the biggest problem I am facing is Phone hang issue. Phone hangs sporadically while taking pictures, while calling someone & you wont be able to access the On Screen Display. The power button doesn't work when phone hangs. The only possible solution is to re-insert the battery. There was some issue with SD Card & phone hangs while checking "SD Card for errors". From morning I have re-inserted the battery at least 10 times. The same SD card is doing great with Google Nexus One. I have deleted all y pictures from this SD card via Nexus One & then using the card in XT720. I hate this... Frankly speaking this phone is a wastage of money when you have other stable phones available in Market with same spec. Motorola should have tested this model thoroughly before release to user.

This rom is only one of a few custom roms out there right now. You can check out dexters roms, Khalpowers, and XAVwanted's on the XDA forums. I've tried them all and have just stuck with Dexter's version 2.2.1, 1.3, The same version you can download and install from dkszone. Its fun to mess around with the different roms, but they aren't perfect. Dexter's in my opinion is the most stable and retains most of the functionality from the stock 2.1 applications. The only issues I've heard people complain about is the the FM radio volume doesn't work correctly. I never use the radio, so it doens't matter to me. One thing I don't like is that when you switch to these 2.2.1 roms, you can no longer upload a video straight from your phone to Youtube. Not something I use a lot, but is nice to have. I had a lot of trouble with my stock rom and setting personalized ringtones. They would only work about 50% of the time. With the new roms, the personalized ringtone works probably 90% of the time. After you have installed openrecovery it would be wise to create a backup rom from you stock 2.1 rom already on your phone. You have to do this before you copy dexters rom onto your SD card though. If you flip through the other posts I've put on here you'll see how to do this. If you do try this new rom, when you go into openrecovery and hit restore to install the new nandroid file, I recommend doing it twice. Sometimes your phone will get stuck in a boot loop, and you have to do it again anyway, so restoring it twice for me seemed to solve that problem.

Ok, so maybe someone knows the real reason for this not working but I won't pretend to fully understand it. There is something in the characters once this link is copied and pasted into the address bar. The solution I have found is to copy the link I've posted into microsoft word, and then copy again from work and paste into the address bar.

A useful not for anyone upgrading with a custom 2.2 rom. After installing openrecovery and before copying the nandroid file containing the new rom onto your SD card you should back up the stock 2.1 version. create an empty nandroid file on your SD card. Go into openrecovery and choose nandroid, then backup, then check "system" and "boot" then choose backup selected. This will create a 2.1 stock rom file that you can use to revert back to instead of running through the process of using RSD lite.

I'm not familiar with epub files specifically, but I do know that with openoffice I am able to read word files, pdf, and can download and view google books and kindle. With word and pdf you can zoom in and out of the file as a whole, with the ebooks I believe your screen is filled completely with text. Hope that helped a little.

Just a suggestion, but if you haven't already, you may want to download the adfree app from the market and if you spend a lot of time playing games, you can cut out the data used for those apps displaying advertisements. Not that it will cause a significant change but its still worth it. Ads are annoying and now i no longer have to deal with them.

Dude, It's an Android handset and fetches GPRS setting's on it's own which makes GPRS connected and u're MB is used, if u want,u can download app named as APN ON OFF WIDGET,add the app as a widget and use it for turning u're GPRS off, but then u won't be able to get connected with u're frenzz anymore.....

I really don't know what is the point of having a gprts if you cannot be connected all the time . I have a motorola milestone xt720 and it is "eating" mb like hell per day. had to download an app to control it. but again , i am disconnected from friends all the time and cannot receive breaking news or similar events that needs you to be always online. other iphone users or blackbery doesn't have this problem.

i'm not hapy with the camera.... Motoblur makes the pics blured.... Bt in performance side it is one of the best... Battery last for minimum 1day.... Media player is excellent.. @ PSK I don't have any experienc with the Defy, but overall performance with the XT720 has made me happy. This is my first android phone, so I've had limited experience with anything other. The only thing I can tell you to look out for it the limited built in memory. It won't take very long to reach the limit of somewhere around 130mb. If you get the XT720, you'll want to root it and upgrade to either Dexter's 2.2 or Wanteds 2.2 roms so you have the ability to install applications on your SD card. These custom roms have made some pretty nice improvements but there are some minor functionality issues that haven't been solved yet. I've actually gone back to the Stock 2.1 android OS after trying the custom roms. My phone is rooted and running with Milestone Overclock. Motorola wont be upgrading the XT720 to 2.2 so just something to consider.

to change you version, you do not need to restore the original 2.1 os. Just insert the new nandroid file onto your sd card as before and use recovery boot to install the new version. while in the recovery tool you will see both versions of the android OS as an option to install. so if you have Dexters 1.1 version, and are going to 1.3, 1.1 will remain an option on your phone.

i recommend to update your xt720 to 1.3 version of dexter froyo and overclock it to 1.2. you will notice the change in performance. now my xt720 is better than droid 2 in terms of functions and performance. hope there will be a developer that will update it to 2.3 gingerbread.

Use this rom in place of dexters and it fixes a few of the problems like setting the gallery pictures as wallpaper. also adds functionality similar to the Droid. If you installed the upgrade from the previous post, all you need to do is insert the nandroid file inside the wantedrom into the root of your SD card and do the install recovery boot just like you did before. The wantedrom is based off Dexters 2.2 rom just tweaked a little.

Grab X10i if you want everything ready (excpet multi-touch). And if you are the guy who likes to tweak your phone get XT720. I'll highly recommend you to get DROID 2 GLOBAL. XT720 has got only 256 MB RAM which is very less and many a times you'll be annoyed by the problem of launcher redraws.

I heard this problem from many people that phone reboots itself randomly but it wasn't a problem with my phone. If it is the problem I recommend you flashing the phone to any of the SBF you want using RSD Lite. I suggest flash your XT to US sbf, it is the most stable sbf. DOWNLOAD SBF here : Moto USB drivers : For RSD Lite, Google it.

i purchased this phone about 5days ago, the phone is great, features are amazing....however the phone has a heating issue where after a few minutes the screen gets so hot that you cannot touch it, also the battery barely lasts 1day. its because of that i am returning the handset. i found out that the processor gets too hot and eventually overheats and the phone tends to malfunction. would of been a great phone but sadly moto i have to return you.

We got four milestones for christmas and I am not happy with mine at all. Just froze up for second time this morning. If I set it down without locking it, it just goes wacky and skips to different sites and apps. It often just dials people without my knowledge. Cover for battery charger is extremely difficult to open and so is battery cover. Thinking about taking it back and switching to the blaze.

I purchased a new XT720 Dec 24, 2010. Almost two weeks into it and most of my experiences have been good. But I've had trouble with it three times where for no apparent reason, the touch screen will go haywire. I might push on and app, and one on the other side of the screen gets pressed and opens. I can't drag the home screen left and right, it either presses an app, or doesn't work at all. And if the phone is locked, it can be almost impossible to slide the screen to unlock it. The first time this happened, I reset the phone completely and had to reboot 4 or 5 times. Its happened twice since then, and I've had to reboot 4 or 5 times. Anyone have any thoughts? Cincinnati Bell wanted me to bring the phone in while I was actually having the problem, but the nearest store is an hour away from where I work and I can't wait all day with a phone that is non functional to get it to them. Its also frustrating that sometimes when I reboot the phone, my sd card doesn't register and I have to reboot again in order for it to recognize it. I use task killer to make sure nothing is running in the background that shouldn't be, but it doesn't help the issue.

Did you try? Setting > Wireless & Networks > Wifi Setting Turn on Wifi and system should automatically search for the available wifi connection. Once you get connected, open a web browser and it should work.

Yeah friend it is not stable version. In my previous post I mentioned that there are some issues with 3G receptions and other bugs too. But I would like to wait for official version in which Motorola might feature continuous autofocus in HD video recording ;)

wrong jack, it has not been successfully ported to the xt720. there are still issues with 3g, proximity sensor, bottom led buttons, etc.

Hey just hold for few weeks ANDROID 2.2 is on the way for XT720. Some guys have successfully ported 2.2 Froyo from Korean Motoroi and works perfect on xt720. Just wait for stable version to come out!! Though no official announcements from MOTOROLA regarding our devices!

Hey friend, there are some issues with battery for the phones with big screens, but you can always have solutions for them. I use milestoneoverclock and setcpu app from market which helps me to last my battery longer (with moderate use i.e. twitter,facebook,music,browsing I get battery backup of 2 days). Try these apps and you should have no worries. As long as USB charging is considered I guess it is problem with your device. And touchscreen is smooth like charm, I didnt face any problem with it. Of course, touchscreen is not better than iPhone because iphone uses 60FPS scrolling while android devices use only 15FPS. If you want scrolling like iphone you need to wait for bootloader to unlock so that we can flash MIUI ROM which offers 60FPS scrolling.

battery life - before you complain, name how many phones with 3.7 inch display or larger that lasts longer? While you enjoy such a big screen there is a trade-off. And if you say office hours, why not simply charge @ your office "and" home? charger - I have always charged my Moto phones with USB cable, both through desktops and notebooks at work, never a single problem, from my oldest phone which supports charging via USB (V6, Z3, V3x, etc...) to my latest ones (Milestone, Cliq, XT720, Defy), suggest you double check the setting on your phone, or visit your local Moto service for assistance. touch screen - never having problem when making / receiving calls. Suggest you try to have the monitor actually touching the face, so the phone would sense the phone is on call and locks up the touchscreen.

I've been using the phone for about a month or two now and I'm rather disappointed in this, after reading all the hype that came with this phone. The 8mp camera, though great, hangs the phone more often than not. The battery life? It only operates during "office hours". Meaning, it doesn't last more than 3/4s of a day. Especially if you're an active user and you want to rely on it to read your newsfeeds and twitter updates, 1/2 to 3/4 day. Tops. The usb charger, isn't quite a usb charger. I couldn't use it on my macbook nor my dell laptop at work, because I just couldn't find the right pod to plug the charger in to. When picking up the phone, you either accidentally hang up due to your face touching the hyper-sensitive touch screen or having numbers being pressed all over the place because the keypad would be triggered by accident. The only redeeming factor about this phone (and this is just one minor factor) is that it syncs its contacts onto google contact, which makes it convenient. But am I willing to give up the rest of the functions this phone's lauded to have just to have this one little convenience? Not a chance. I guess I'll be headed towards the direction of Apple now, cos I know that at least, my calls don't drop because I pick up the phonecall like I'm supposed to.

It can play 720P .mp4 format videos with its stock player without loosing audio-video synchronisation. With v-player alpha it can even manages to play 720P .mkv videos (though in .mkv might lag when multitasking otherwise smooth like charm) (Dont know if thats because of app2sd + FROYO JIT but yes it can play now)

Merry Christmas and cheers for our MILESTONE XT720. If someone manages to unlock its bootloader, 2.3 Gingerbread is not far away!!! Don't sell your devices, there are lots of specifications that will be revealed. -XT720 users believe that there is 512MB RAM in XT720 but because of 2.1 kernel only 256MB is available, devs are working on flashing custom kernel to it and if lucky we can have 512MB RAM too. -With this 2.2 ROM and app2sd enabled total free INTERNAL MEMORY is whooping 265MB.(Generally which is 160MB on 2.1 ECLAIR)

To be honest, I didn't find much differences between Android 2.0 vs. 2.1. But for 2.1 vs. 2.2, 2.2 offers: - app2SD, which means the user can store the apps in the memory card instead of the phone's memory, which has about 150mb only. (soon you shall find out you won't have enough space to store all the apps you want) - ability to play flash, as right now the default browser doesn't support watching any video. There is a dedicated Youtube for mobile but selections / available video are (way) less than the original ones. I have the XT720, and I would say the upgrades are "nice to have", but I'm still quite happy with the phone.

I 've been using this phone and m very satisfied. I used Iphone 3g for 2yrs and now bought xt720 along with that.I was bored with iphone's lack of customization and that's not an issue with xt720. Before buying i read reviews that it has slow processor, xenon is not effective etc etc but that's not true. It has so much that u wont repent after buying. One more thing, why u all want android 2.2 or 2.3 ? any benifits?

Att : Motorola XT Serius will be upddate to 2.2 Nonetheless, Spiros Nikolakopoulos, Motorola's Vice President and General Manager of Mobile Devices for Asia & International Retail Distribution, did state that there will be a forthcoming Android 2.2 update in early 2011 for the Defy. In fact, both the earlier launched Motorola Milestone and Milestone XT are also slated for the Froyo update as confirmed by a Motorola spokesperson, though the actual timeframe hasn't been set just yet.

For setting settings to 1Ghz 59 Vsel,you need to root your phone.By doing this you void your warranty.But phone runs like hell and battery backup is quite good (2 days for me) You need universal_androot application to root your phone (download it here) and milestoneoverclock app availble in market for free. You dont need to be genius to overclock just 4-5 clicks and phone is at its maximum

I have overclocked my phone to 1Ghz and my custom Vsel value is 59 so it doesnt consume battery that fast Initially i was having default settings Vsel 80 for 1Ghz.I swear it could hardly last for 4-5 hours,now i can use it for almost 2 days without charging and moderate use Application you need _milestone overclock (1Ghz 59Vsel worked for me, you might need to set different value) -setcpu (paid app) -Advanced task killer

Android phones with Android 2.2 OS would allow you to store the apps on SD card, up to 32GB at this moment. XT720 should allow, if not by default, save photos/video taken by the phone to the memory card instead of the phone, and up to 32GB as well. Don't know how much video you can take to blow out 32GB. 1Ghz processor is available on Milestone 2. For battery power, it should be a trade-off between the large screen. Until a revolutionary battery is available, otherwise if you've so much fun with the phone, why not simply charge the phone everyday? By the time your battery is dead, chances are you have traded out the phone for something else already. Hence I never think of battery being an issue.

i bought this phone one month ago (October) my experience: - it is my first android (it is true that you cant left your fingers off it) - battery drains too fast (3G + what mentioned above)= battery wont sustain more than 2 days. - the camera takes long time to take the shot and sometimes its fuzzy. however the flash is amazing - only 200 mig internal memory???? of course as android OS it wont allow me/anybody to install application on the memory stick. and that also affect the camcorder, depending on the resolution of the recording, it will tell you (OUT OF MEMORY). i'll be selling it and buying phone with android OS, more than 8 gig internal memory, camera flash, CPU of more than 1GHz & of course longer battery (not existed yet lol)

Skype application was available a few months back...official announcement. Just download from market. Takes up a bit of space and maybe a problem for now until the Froyo 2.2 update becomes available for installation through SD card. I install it only when i am travelling abroad, uninstalled when i am not using it.

1.Screen is just awesome definitely no better than iPhone 4 but clear and high resolution! 2.Yes screen is scratch resistance 3.I use internet connection heavily and it needs to charge twice a day.You can pass whole day with moderate use 4.For battery backup I use application called as 'setcpu' it really helps my phone last complete day with heavy use!! 5.It is perfect value for money phone and definitely a good deal for 25K.I purchased this phone for 24.5K from CROMA ELECTRONICS on diwali and got tons of accesaries free.

My dear friend Xperia X10 has got bigger screen. I've compared camera shots of Xt720 with those of Xperia x10.And let me tell you XT720 beats x10 with slight margin in natural light(clours are more natural and real on xt720 as compare to x10)and beats x10 with heavy margin in dark. Definitely froyo 2.2 will bring faster processing and addition 256 MB of RAM as rumoured!!

I'll definitely recommend you iPhone 4.But if you need lots and millions of customisations Android is for you,if you like to play with system go for android. Samsung galaxy S takes over xt720 in terms of screen and internal memory while it does not have flash for its 5MP camera. Milestone xt720 is good multimedia phone,offers great camera(it will improve more with froyo 2.2 update)and one of the loudest phone available.Screen resolution is ever greater than galaxy S iPhone 4 is all in one device which combines powerful multimedia,great gaming and awesome design. I have milestone xt720 and dont feel like getting another phone.If you get xt720 definitely tou wont repent!! Best of luck :)

@Jai Hello, There are two easy steps to overclock your milestone XT720 to 1Ghz or 1.2Ghz whichever configuration you want... STEP 1: Download the application called "universal Androot" Google it...I guess application is down on android market... Install the application>After installing launch it and select superuser2.0-2.2 1st option in the list and click ROOT Now your phone is rooted within 30 seconds..... STEP 2: Download "milestoneoverclock" from android market ,it is free application.install it.... After that click on 'load module' on upper left corner of the app Now set frequency to 1000Mhz or 12000Mhz (overclock to 1000Mhz it is enough to boost performance) It will automatically select vsel voltage value Afer that click apply and mark load on boot. You'are done..........beast is unleashed!!! I recommend you to buy setcpu application from market which costs $1.99 only this application helps battery last longer.With this app my battery lasts atleast 20-24 Hours!! When ypu'll purchase this app tell me I'll give you profile settings for app which will boost battery too!! :D ;)

Yeah I'm in PH and I use the xt720. If you're looking for a great and unique phone get it. Just make sure you charge fully it with the custom AC adapter for the first 10 charges or so before you begin to charge from other sources like a PC. I love this phone. It's too cool.

Hello guys I have this phone and after playing with it for 1 complete week I have following pros and cons PROS: -Extreme built quality -Best 8MP camera (if you want to see camera pics visit: -Crisp clear audio when on call -Loudest handset ever.Music is far louder than any other phone on earsets and speakers are also loud enough. Cons: -Weak processor (500Mhz)still faster solution : overclock it to 1.2Ghz and use setcpu to last battery longer and its beast unleashed!! -Disappointing HD video Moto says it records @24fps but never goes above 20fps solution :Use higher class memory card(atleast class6)+overclock to 800Mhz(1.0Ghz would be perfect!!) -When heavily loaded and going back to homescreen it takes 5-10 seconds to load all widgets and icons solution:I think this is becuase of weak CPU overclocking should fix the problem.... VERDICT : Best android CAMERA phone available if you could manage to modify it i.e.overclocking.... Get it now!!!

This phone is awesome. Will do whatever you ask it to and more. The battery will die on you because you will be on it all of the time. Get a car charger! Camera is a little slow in taking pictures but the image is awesome once it does. I love my xt720!

But so far I could not create sms groups. example : Groups A contains 10 ppl contact So everytime I want to sent sms to group A, I just put Group A into sms than it will automaticaly sent to all people in GROUP A. Im heavy SMS'er almost everyday I sent more than 100 sms to different groups people to inform any news, that is why I need this feature. Usually every phone had this kind of feature, but somehow I could not find it in Moto XT720. Any suggestion?

sms can send in group.. just space after the 1st mobile no. u hv enter... and battery life for tis type of phone last for a time like normal phone.. last 1 day is very good enuf for normal facebook, check mail ,sms ,call and even live wallpaper on everyday. if u using a netbook also cant w/out if use more thn 12 hrs. think abt it guys..

i have one now, since my provider is in the 1700/2100 band i have not many phone choices so i got this one. it is and awkward shape.did not like the edges of the phone they don't feel right when holding the phone on a conversation. picture is great but the video not great resolution although the colors are vibrant. video playback of an mp4 lags a lot witch is really bad need more processing speed waiting for the update. i give it a 6 for design 9 for features and 7 for performance some apps have crashed on me. this leads us into a 7 overall (speaker are good loud)

X10 camera is the best you can get currently in an Android phone. XT720 has only a "good" camera, not better than X10. Apart from that X10 runs 1.6 ( update to 2.1 soon) and XT720 runs 2.1 (2.2 soon) So if you want to have a good camera then X10 is for you. :) XT720 is a good phone too, its got a newer OS and overall a very good phone. :)

Amazing phone, will even be better once 2.2 comes out. divx support you can just look for apps from market to view it. Quick dial you can always create a folder and drag in the contact shortcut. Can add photo to the contact pictures. :o)

hey thanx for the response.... just to add...i installed app saver from the market & i did manage to save all the applications on the SD card with the help of app saver. post that i check my memory status, which showed space used on SD but the space on internal memory remained unchanged. how do i enhance internal memory once i m done with saving on sd card....???

Phone is excellent but android Os has some issues like 1: no speed dial 2: quick dial is length process 3: we cant delete all entries from Calendar, need to remove one by one which is most painful process, 4: C-tiuch is too sensitive, 5: XT720 has very poor battery life, 6: Exchange mail sync options are limited, like no peak and off-peak time facility 7: Tilt response is not that immediate like other phones 8: SMS message incomming and outgoing indication is missing which is biggest pain 9: Message delivery reort is not working properly 10: Phone unlocking is at time bit hazy 11: at time phone hangs Note: motorola Helpdesk is excellent , quick and responsive

I've been using this phone for 3 months and yes, I fall in love with this phone. But while the built quality is impressive and very good hardware spec, the software department needs a lot of improvements. The home screen and apps drawer is very laggy with minimal functionality. I replaced with LauncherPro. The performance improved a lot and the apps drawer is very snappy. The GSM Arena review fussed about no Divx/Xvid support but I just installed Rock Player from the Market and it solve the issue. Rooting is very simple with Universal Androot. and Milestone Overclock 1.4.2 helps me make the phone running 1GHz. The benchmarks said when it's running 1GHz, it's better than Nexus One with Eclair or HTC Desire. The ROM has only 150 Mb which is very little space to install apps. With help from XDA-Developers, I managed to make App2SD working. Now I'm enjoying the 1Gb partition on my SD card to install as many apps as I want. That's all improvement so far I've done and there's still left room for further improvements. It will be nice if we can get offline and voice guided navigation system.

Example on HTC forums you can use AGPS too. I saw some reviews here, and I didn't saw that you have to pay... By the way I don't have a big experience in this category...

Actually here is how it works. The phone is equipped with GPS, which is free. The Google map would require data for the map where you are at, unless, you had been there already. Of course you can find a free Wifi hotspot to do that as well.

some pretty big glitches... terrible hd video xenon flash was weak compared to most other xenon equipped phones ive had in the past... and in turn there is no light when video recording at night 8mp camera is very average.. most 5mp shooters out perform the xt720's 8mp cam sluggish UI -ARM Cortex A8 @ 550mhz needs to be overclocked radio does not work without headphones

It's s-o-o-o-o-o-o s-l-l-l-l-u-u-g-g-g-g-i-s-s-s-h-h-h. And it would "crash" like a PC would... "force end" error every now and then. You would not know if the phone detected your "tap/touch" because it wouldn't respond right away. So after you tap, wait... and wait... then tap... and wait... With this phone, multi-tasking is a no-no. I was thinking I'd have a better experience switching from iPhone to Milestone. But I now have second thoughts and needed to re-evaluate my decision-making process.

Some of the applications i been using on the phone: 1) Quick settings 2) Quick battery 3) Estask manager 4) AWD Luancher 5) Laputa ebook reader 6) Appsbrain (not really neccessary can just use the Market Apps) ALL are welcome to suggest more other useful apps. Best phone ever used so far. Touch screen is less sensitive compared to iphone, other than that all things are great about the phone. Camera has noise interference while in taking shot mode but image is very sharp after the shot has been taken. HD video needs improving, mainly i believe is the software issue. Moto did mentioned that the next update to Froyo 2.2 there is going to be improvement to the camera & video function. Signal strength is fantastic, clear receiving voice under normal setting. Even more super when you set it to crystal clear mode. Create folder options on the screen is a very handy feature. Response speed of the phone to application loading is fast. I feel that is a 720 mhz speed instead of the mentioned 550mhz. Battery power is great, it lasts longer than what was being mentioned. Memory storage for applications is only base on internal installation, no installing from external memory allowed for 2.1, Froyo 2.2 allows it. Of course if you are one that compares applications to iphone applications iphone wins hands down for NOW. Give andriod another 1 to 2 years & i believe it will match the iphone apps. To be fair when Apple started out there were also not much apps in the market, there were no such thing as itunes sync

Wow, when I hekd this phone for first time, just one word: solid. Unusual design with glass at front, surrounded with metal and the metal with rubber at back. Screen is excellent,disappointed in sunlight. Reasonable processor, high quality music. But Camera is a disappointing matter. From several example, taking photo makes me frustated. Although has autofocus, photo has no focus image. Xenon flash is also awful. sometimes overexposure or in other hand underexposure. Color saturation is not natural. There are not manual setting. The only good thing from its camera is macro mode. Macro mode is quitely sharp. I have no problem issue with signal reception although I have no 'bumper' for XT. But overall, it delivers high-class performance phone. I am waiting for GSM version of Droid X or Droid 2

yeah i saw it.. i held it in my hands and desided to sell it the same day. hdmi would be great if the hd video was even half decent. xenon flash was weak compared to most other xenon equipped phones ive had in the past... and in turn there is no light when recording video 8mp cam is average.. comparing it to the desires 5mp.. in good daylight desires cam fares slightly better, at night xt720 fares slighly better and i do mean slightly better and thats a ARM Cortex A8 @ 550mhz o yeah, and the radio that is sposed to work without headphones???? works awesome right?? lol

I can restore the phone to the original state without any trace of overclock you only use two android apps to to this. No worries about voiding warranty and I have a super fast phone - faster than the Desire :)

The reason Snapdragon < OMAP 3440 at same frequency because of the GPU performance on the snapdragon is worse. Samsung galaxy S has a better GPU than most other phone - that's why it is so fast. AFAIK they all have ARM A8 Cortex CPU.

I think the speaker is very good and loud on the XT720. Are you sure you don't have a faulty unit? Also to get improved picture quality, use the "Camera 360" application from the Android market.

Noise cancellation means little if you are always in a quiet environment like your home, car, office. If you live in metopolitan areas then it would make a huge difference. Many users where I live commented when they're in video arcade, the other person on the phone would ask as if the Moto user is in the library or at home.

Actually I prefer the XT720 more than the Desire. Speed can be increased via rooting and then there is Xenon Flash, HDMI out and noise cancelling microphone which you will never get on the Desire!

Unfortunately, you are correct. I think I would need to actually fiddle with one before making a decision to buy it or not. It has the physical and software aspects to make it a winner but overall performance is key! If the 550Mhz CPU and 256MB RAM end up dragging it compared to something that has better hardware specs like the HTC Desire, then I guess it won't go on my Christmas list.

Another observation with XT720: JPEG compression is high on default camera - 8MP picture is about 1.5MB. However if you use a third party app such as Camera 360 and save high quality JPEG the same picture takes about 5MB. Picture quality/sharpness is definitely improved with highest quality JPEG compression.

GSMArena, please correct the mistake about the phone's Ram. It has 256 Mb of Ram, not 512 Mb. I saw this on Motorola's site. The CPU of this phone is 550 MHZ, not 720.

There seems to software update soon for the Xt720 but they don't seem to specify what will be fixed! Response to the bad image quality and choppy video. From the motorola website, there seem to be a 2.2 upgrade for MOTOROI (Korea) Initial rollout of upgrade to Android 2.2 planned for Q4 Hopefully the european version will have an upgrade too

Ok about the 720p video, you need to buy a really good (class 6-10) sd card for it to work smoothly. The camera won't work without an sd card, and the one inside produces jerky 720p video. I think that having an Android with a point & shoot replacement, is worth the extra money.

I looks like the Android 2.1 kernel version 2.6.29 cannot support more than 256mb. So you are not missing out at all as even if the Xt720 had 512mb the extra 256mb would be unused. That's has been fixed in Android 2.2 froyo: 2.6.32 kernel upgrade * HIGHMEM support for RAM >256MB * SDIO scheduling and BT improvements

I bought it mainly for the camera and Android. The Android part is great but camera is a bit disappointing. Noise, bad focus, no details. On web it looks almost ok. I have it on ISO 100 fixed all the time and still there is less detail than on my previous SE W900i with 2MP snapper. Close-up objects with Xenon flash give great results but everything else is average at best. Zoomed in it looks like rough colorful tartan. Take a look at my test photos on fotki.com slash likarm, under XT720.1. Decide for yourself. This is a good phone but missing that one step from being a great one.

I want to buy this smart phone but still got doubt on the camera quality... well the camera seems extremely good for video capturing but not so good for still photographs, i felt xenon flash is not powerful enough, my motozine ZN5 captures much better photographs. I bought an Iphone and a XT720, paid $360 for Iphone M1 plan and $0 for XT720 starhub plan. The XT720 GPS was a split second in receiving AGPS, super clear and ease of use. The HDMI TV was HD quality. Both gives good response. Apple screen is the best. Both have plenty to download, no time to use them anyway.

Interesting observation with HD video: Underclocking the Xt720 to 125mhz, the frame rate is similar as clocked at 1.2ghz! Seems that the video capture is independent. Of the cpu speed.

I get the same error message with my unlocked xt720. This only means there is no software update yet for this phone model. Don't know yet when we will get a software update. When the update is available, the connection to the server will then work.

That is the most stupid argument, I always get this argument, its like saying if you want to connect to facebook or the Internet, carry a laptop, if you want to listen to music then carry a mp3 player. The point of a smartphone is you carry everything in one device, if they put a 5/6 or 8 megapixel camera then it should take decent pictures, EVERYONE knows you will not get digital camera quality, but the quality should be good enough to see on monitor or on 4" by 6" photo paper.

You can overclock the XT720 to 1.2 Ghz but did not see improvement in HD video still jerky! Everything else is smooth and responsive and the web browsing is fast. The Quadrant score when the XT720 is set to 1GHz is 602 which beats the nexus One at the same frequency (scores about 510). (Note The max you can go is 1.2GHz which gives a score of 692! but the XT720 is not too stable as it crashed once). It was surprisingly easy to overclock Just download two apps and install (google search): universalandroot.apk (to root your phone) milestoneoverclock12.apk (to set the frequency) (You need version 1.2 as the latest version 1.3.2 from the market does not work with the XT720) WARNING: Use this at your own risk. I am not reponsible if you damage/brick your phone. To play safe it is advisable to set the frequency to 800Mhz which is max "quoted" frequency for the XT720.

So, I own it for about 3 weeks. Camera/HD video is a disaster. Photos are acceptable in sunlight, but seems blurry in any other conditions. And by acceptable, I mean, barely acceptable. Not better than 5Mpx N82 from 3 years ago, that I still own. Video is 19fps, and jerky. Seems that current firmware was thrown on it at the last moment without any testing. I will wait for 2.2 and 720MHz update, hoping that camera performance improves, otherwise, will sell it.

I bought it for the camera and xenon flash and in combination it makes good photos of close objects but everything else is underexposed, aggresively processed and just not in tack sharp focus. This was a huge dissapointment because I come from SE Cyber Shot phones and am not used to such poor camera performance. I can see the photo right after taking it and it looks ok but then it gets processed and saved and it's botched. Otherwise, Android is a new experience, phone working fine, processor good enough, a real toy if needed and am not sure I could switch back to Symb or WinMo etc. To be honest, this is a great phone, just do not go for it for the camera as main objective. And, oh, HD movie: very jerky.

THE UK VERSION is 720mhz but UNDER-CLOCKED by Motorola to 550mhz, so your setting WILL say 550mhz. Apparently Motorola may!!!??? release a firmware to set the processor to 720mhz but is afraid it will reduce the battery life.

Remember that it seven days from the day you receive the product - not purchase the product. You also have 10 days if you think it is faulty i.e. dodgy picture, stuttering video. Mine has crashed few times when exiting camera view mode and Motorola support says that I have a faulty one (as it should not crash as all) and to send it back to expansys for a new one or get a refund!

Hey nice observations there and review is user friendly ;).I would like to tell you and other guys out there that,wait till Froyo comes to this phone,it has got enhancements for screen resolution calibration,camera are the few ignored things being updated,apart from jit,flash 10.1 save to SD etc. After using Android, I personally hate to use other than android devices,Now Am even planning to get my hands on android tablets... Finally a review by someone who actually owns the phone not just reviews on the spec sheet, It seems most who give the camera & video comments do not own the phone, they are just looking at the spec sheet. I so wanted this phone, this phone is based around the camera & xenon flash & it seems like these are the worst things on the phone, I currently own 2 phones Nokia N82 (fantastic xenon flash) & HTC desire & wanted to sell both for a xenon flash phones. Im so unhappy now (& if anyone says "you should carry a digital camera if you want to take photo's) then that same principle applies if you want to go on the Internet "then carry a laptop" so no silly comments like that.

Just thought people should know more about the camera & video etc before you spend your money, The BAD: @720p you'll be lucky to get the 24fps I haven't reached above 20 even when its pointed at a still object and even then its very noise and comparing it with my n86(VGA) its nowhere near as good. You can stop it from freezing every couple of seconds while recording if you replace the stock class 2 MicroSD card with a class 6 or above. the 8MP still images make sure you don't set it to 8MP wide as its only 6MP, there is alot of noise in the images and the Auto focus algorithm is even worse then my xperia x1! also the xenon flash doesn't fill a room very well, its great for up close facial shots (however i am comparing this with my Digital camera) The HDMI only works on saved video and photos (There might be a setting to show everything via HDMI if so i haven't found it) The FM radio does need a headset attached keyboard feels abit small (but i do have big hands) The GOOD: Great web browser (i found it faster and easier than the iphone's & the n97) Battery life is great, ends a whole day of heavy use with about 20% left Signal and voice quality the word perfect coems to mind loud and clear, speaker phone gets abit crackly at max but which phone doesn't? CPU can overclock to 1.2GHz via rooting (xda developers have more details) Has seperate graphics chip, unlike most droid devices build quality: seems sturdy and well built, annoying dust flaps on charger socket & HDMI propably won't last long The bump at the bottom feels fine in the hand, as the phone gets slimmer towards the bottom Task manager :D on rom!!!!! Bottom line: great smartphone only bug bare is camera and video quality (btw overclocking doesn't seem to help much on video qual) as I like have a decent camera I think I'll return this and get the nokia n8 when its released. hope my opinion helps anyone.

i meant,there isnt a big differnce between wvga and D1 (since HD on the xt720 is barely usable)so there isnt enough insentive for me to keep the xt720. ....As you said 'deal breaker'... well HD on the xt720 isnt exactually good and was one of the main reasons i bought it. htc desire will be getting HD so thats another reason why im selling the xt720. another thing is, all the overclocking etc... should you really have to do this to a new phone to get it functioning the way it is sposed to?, even if it is overclocked to 800mhz.. your doing it to get the phone to work properly right? doesnt sound right does it?

But with the xt720 you can have a relatively smooth D1 recording. There is one observation i made about hd recording on xt720 is that it is progressive rather than interlaced. That is why it judders rather than blurs. I saw some footage of the desire and it seems to be interlaced?? Some people have posted on a forum that if you overclock the xt720 to 800mhz. The 720p recording is smooth.

yeh, id never own another Sony Ericsson phone again either. In all honesty at the moment the quality of cams in all android phones are sub-par... but when you read "8mp with xenon" and it cant even hang with an average 5mp shooter its dissapointing.. on saying that.. i probably coulda lived with it. but the HD vid quality was the deal breaker on a phone thats marketed as first mobile to sport HDMI out.. not acceptable. maybe i might regret selling it, n maybe they will bring out a firmware update to fix it all.. but there are to many other things at the moment that really bring the phone down.. imo.

I have analysed closely the pictures from the XT720 and X10 and the main difference is that the XT720 is more noisy than the X10. But if you don't zoom in, they look quite similar. Also I noticed that the XT720 actually has a mechanical shutter in the lens assembly which the X10 doesn't have.

In addition to the loudspeaker, the Wifi reception, GSM reception and In-call quality is much better on the XT720 than the Sony Ericsson X10. I also compared picture quality between the X10 and XT720 and they were quite similar - that's why I kept my XT720 as it wasn't as bad as I first thought since people always rave about X10 having a good camera - not!

hey, mainly because of the camera performance as the 8mp pics are average at best(not even as good as the htcs desires 5mp cam which is considered average), HD video is unusable as it is so jerky(one of the main selling points is the first phone with HDMI out), buggy UI, UI is somewhat laggy, photos go missing or dont save, radio does not work without headphones which it is sposed to and build quality wasnt what i was expecting either( plastic chrome face and camera unit doesnt sit in the phone properly). maybe i was expecting too much, not sure as ive never owened a moto phone before and after this will never own one again.. really felt like i was holding an unfinished, rushed phone. btw... its on e bay AU if anyones keen..(umm, yeah i know.. worst salesman ever). peace

Is the battery life really so bad? I mean if use wifi or 3g for 2 hours,gps for 15-20 minutes, talk for an hour and take a few photos and a video, can it stand for at least a day or not? ok guys.. last comment... I bought this phone from an online seller in the UK, was recieved on monday and within like 2hrs of using the phone i had sealed it up and decided to sell it.. now ive been kinda lookin at the htc desire aswell, i managed to find it locally from someone selling it (got it for a good price and was only 2 weeks old).Bought the desire 2 days later cas i was so let down with the xt720 and really wanted something new to play with. now i can tell you the xt720 is not even in the same league as the desire, not close.. i will kinda agree with u here.. the xt720's loud speaker is slightly better and photos..at night! and i mean slightly.. even the xenon on the xt720 doesnt seem as powerful as most other xenon phones i have owned. And considering the htc desire in most reviews the camera is considered average to good the xt720's cam still fares slighty worse. really dissapointed as on paper the milestone xt720 sounds awesome... unfortunately is not. anyways im done, peace.

Well it's a Motorola, no one really expects AWESOME photos. However, from my experience, they should be "good enough" - and that means good enough in good light, bad light, counter-light, day, evening, outside, room, cafe, shop, forest, hill, meadow, sun, clouds, quick shots, slow shots... my Motorolas always make "good enough" photos whereas some other phones I tried make useless photos in low light (rainbow-colored noise, white dots, or even no photo at all) or if the light isn't exactly favorable. I know I can depend on Moto's camera in most conditions and to me they were always dead reliable. Sorry about your experience.

Im sorry if this phones photos where that good then there would be hundreads of photos on flickr but there are hardly non, & non from the last month, if the photos are good then prove it & post on flickr dont just say they are better than the desire of x10, prove it & upload photos. hey guys whats your problem this phone is realy great choice im original milestone user about 8month the best smartphone with qwerty slider keyboard that make me happy ever next week my friend bought milestone xt720 its realy great phone way way beter than my milestone the lcd is alittle beter just for natural color and touching is like my phone great and very Response web browser is perfect and phone speed to is too fast to open the web page phone is overclock in 720mhz and 256ram phone speed is great and much beter than my milestone with 600 mhz speed camera is very good and photo are realy lucid phone quality nad assemble is great like all moto phone's bye

Hey guys , a question for XT720 user ...Is the speaker really that bad coz i just got my set and whenever i set my ringtone 2 loudest , the speaker sound like get distorted , like some old phones playing bass with all the "buzz" sound at the back ....even trying using default but in the end , turn down 2 volume .... Anyone faces this or did i just got a faulty set ?

also after reading so many people talk about the build quality.... the back side is nice with the soft blue over the metal.. but the front, with the fake chrome plastic really makes the phone look cheap and something that looks about 5yrs old.. in the pics it looks nice and kinda futuristic but when u get it in ur hands the cheap plastic really kills it.. very average phone trying to look cool and fancy

8mp pics are average at best, HD video is unusable as it is extremely jerky(one of the main selling points is the first phone with HDMI out!?!?!), buggy UI, will not play mp3s????, UI lags, photos go missing or dont save, radio does not work without headphones.. sorry barelyyyy works! this was emailed to motorola 10min ago after recieving this phone today... hmm.. OK. ive had the phone now for a few hours and wishing i hadnt bought it... average at best 8mp pics,YES HD is unusable.. so jerky. UI is buggy, touch sensitiveness kinda laggy, UI kinda laggy.. plus pretty much all the reviews ive read say is made from almost entirely metal..nope.. whole front side is plastic, and that cheap looking fake chrome... really dissapionted.. im gunna give it a couple more days but think this is going straight to EEE bay. first and last motorola phone i ever buy

Hey guys, I'm not a fangirl of any brand but quite a heavy smartphone user. Sorry but I have to say this phone realy is outdated even though it just hit the market. Even my 14 months old Samsung Omnia i8910HD could record video in HD with only 24 frames :-( And it has a build-in memory of 16GB, a 3,7" AMOLED screen, 8 Megapix cam and 1500 mAh battery and stereo speakers. It even runs on the dated SYMBIAN S60v5, how's that to compare to the new Moto running Android ;-) I've been dubbing between the iPhone4 and the Samsung Galaxy S as the successor to my Omnia i8910HD. I ended up with the Galaxy S because of its performance speed (from which you can find a video on YouTube btw), build-in 16GB memory, the 4" SuperAmoled screen and the unbelieveable graphics!! I'm using the phone for four weeks now with a service plan from Vodafone Netherlands. If you're into a phone that sets the standard today, it's not the Apple anymore...... It's the Samsung Galaxy S, no questions asked.

Nice to know they actually respond to inquiries! Anyway, yes, not all memory cards are the same concerning the speed, but makes me wonder why they didn't include a better one with the phone then. Anyway, I still want this phone some day...

Message to Motorola Europe:- When will an update for the uk Milestone xt720 be coming out the 720p video recording is way to choppy & stuttery, the photo image quality could also do with improving. Message from Motorola Europe:- The software update is making good progress and we should have more news soon. The processor speed will improve the situation, but we also recommend that for higher users of the HD functionality that they look to a higher quality memory card such as a uSD level 10 SD Micro card (available from most online electrical reatilers), as this improves the read/write capability too.
