Philips 650 - User Reviews

  • The last great phone philips ever made...everything went downhill after...

  • Wow, thank GOD! I hunted high and low for this phone as my old 9@9c konked (LCD connector broke so I cannot view msgs). Had to rely on long-press #7 to return call to every person who had missed call. I managed to backed up my numbers using the connectivity software. Even to turn on data-modem was a challenge as I had to rely on memory to navigate to the function. I backed up the phone and after 5 days of searching, I was rewarded in finding the phone in Sungei Wang for RM299 (normal RM699). They were having a promotion in August. Bought the 9@98 for a whopping low of RM199 (normal RM469) for my dad. This phone is a cinch. Set to autonomy and activate auto off, it will last for weeks. Within a day of getting the phone, my contacts are back in it. Now to upgrade the software to ver#17 or higher.

  • This Phone has got a lot of advantages & disavantages. The Battery is Perfect, it holds up to 3 weeks. The design is also perfect, but the phone is a little bit Fat |to big for pocket|. Also I have got some problems by receiving calls. There are critical 2 secons in which the caller cannot hear me. The external display goes blank in 8 seconds, and to switch it on lasts for seconds - so it is a uncool. The voice of the caller is to low, I adjusted it for maximum, but still it is not adequate when you are outside. |I am not deaf|

  • I've been using this phone for about one year and I must say it's the best phone I ever had. It's a real phone, not a bad camera with a speaker and mic attached to it ;) About 2 weeks of standby, hours and hours of talk time (and that's after 1 year of use...). Solid OS, good software, nice finnish, could be more durable though and did I mention battery time!?! :D Oh, and no pesky bluetooth to drain my battery :D

  • i've been using this phone 1 year 7 month... It's a good phone but the main problem is the Flexible cable inside the phone.this cable damaged twice after a period of using. This causes the main display not viewable. Maybe this is the disadvantage of using flip style form phone . For the future i will choose the candybar form. anyway it's good phone for communicating, messaging with great battery life. SIMPLE!!!

  • the only problems with this phone proper working temperatures and 1800mhz crystal. in a cold day dont try to use this phone outside it usually gives sim code error and there will be some dead-pixs on the screen...

  • using it for last 6 months. i'm talking ~2 hrs perday. average battery life for me 4-5 days. i'm so happy that i found a hp that has a batterylife more than 1 day:))

  • Thank you, Shrek. I'll buy it, and i hope i will enjoy my new phone :) I think it's perfect for a business man, who needs to talk on the phone a lot, without worring about recharging the battery.

  • Vlad It can store more than 300 SMS in the archive folder. It depends on how much memory you devote to other folders like MMS, ringtones, pictures etc. If you use other folders minimally, then you ca probably store even 1000 SMSes. Initially all SMSes are stored on your SIM card, i.e all messages in 'Read SMS' option in the SMS menu are present on your SIM card. You have to move to archive folder to transfer it to phone memory and thats when your 7 mb memory starts getting used. Also do you know of any method by which I can make my SMS list display "Names" of people who sent the SMS rather than content of SMS. Currently when you go to "Read Sms" folder you see the SMS content and when you highlight a particular message, then you can see message content scrolling towards the list. What I need is, to display the name of the SMS sender, rather than the SMS content. If you know of any solution, then please let me know. If there is anything else then please let me know Bye

  • I have litle question: how many sms's can it remember? I'm wondering, because i don't know the 7mb what are for. for the agenda and the sms list? for what else? how many sms's can it remember? 10x in advance

  • I have a Philips Xenium 9@9C or Philips 650 (which ever way you prefer to call it). Like I have read in some of the earlier dicsussions, when I press the side buttons without opening the flap, my OLED screen does not display anything. Neither am I able to cut a call without opening the phone. Is there a solution to this problem. Also in my inbox (SMS) I am not able to view the name of the sender. I have to open the message to see who is the sender. Before the opening the SMS I can only see the contents of the SMS scrolling, but not the name of the sender. Can anybody tell me how can anybody tell me the settings to show me the name of the sender. I am happy with other features of the phone. Thanking you in advance, Bye

  • Well i have this phone for allmost one year now. After a repair in the verry beginning and a software upgrade, i must say, the verry best phone ever made! Battery lasts for ever, the most stable software ever seen, strong phone, droped it sevral times verry hard, but it keeps on working. Thinking of buying the 9@9i or 9@9e. One thing for this one, get sw version 17 or higer at your philips service station.

  • excelent, briliant autonomy....but a little bit slow in menu and low hearing volume...overall a very, very good phone for 130eur free price in store.Vlad.Romania

  • I just got this phone - Philips 650. I like it; especially the generous battery life, and I want to keep it. But It keeps dropping calls - people canot get through to me, and when I want to place a call, I keep getting 'call failed' messages. Can any one help me throgh? I am on T-mobile service carrier. I will appreciate all the help I can get. Thanks.

  • Hi, guys When I make a call or receive a call on P650, there is an area look like a photo on inner screen, may be for photo call. But it's look annoying if this number does not have assigned photo. Can any body help how can turn off this feature? Thanks guys,

  • I just got it back from the Philips authorised service centre in Sunway. They have upgraded sw to ver17; the only new thing I see in here is sms chat which wasn't in ver11 I think. The reception quality improves somewhat esp since I'm in a marginal signal area. It solves some this annoying bug I experienced where sometimes phone powers off when I close the clamshell after a call.

  • To : Mike Thanks for the answers bro.i doubt the memory coz i have 9@9++,the memory status shows 79% free,but i can't add a new phone number,right now,i can't open my sms archive...what a philips..hahaha..

  • For Steven: It's a sharing memory, but anyway you have about 6 Mb there. Once you get a message, you can do what you want whith it. Enjoy !

  • Hi guys, Could anybody help me please, how to export the phonebook from this phone to PC? Any accesories required? Thanks! AH

  • Hi, guys ! Could you tell me, please, how can I see how many letters I type into a sms before I send it? Thanks.

  • i have a plan to buy this 650 but can somebody can tell me first about 7MB internal memory?is that sharing memory including picture n phone book? Can this phone edit the messages b4 u forward to others?Tq

  • Great phone. Great standby time. Otonomy mode is a nice feature. You think the phone is dead, and when a call is received it awakes from the dead :) Solid operating system. Never had a crash or restart. You can count on it. This is my 1st phone that didnt crash once. Dont expect a camera. Buy the 9@9i if you want. Dont expect Bluetooth. Accept the phone as it is. Infrared works perfect with all phones here. Nice software that comes with the data cable (Mobile Phone Tools). Remarkable Pros: - Nice MIDI Wavetable, good sound. - If you want a reliable phone that never runs out of battery (I forget where I have put my charger) buy this phone. - Contrast, Brightness, and EQUALIZER, wow! - Nice OLED, the phone looks great. Good finishing. The phone looks elegant and expensive. Downsides: - Cant edit/personalize Profiles. - Philips support sucks, doesnt exist. - Not every Java game works (2 out of 10) - Menus could be a little faster, but its OK. My 2 cents.

  • Can someboby tell me how it's going to help me an upgrade to the soft? What't the inprouvment? Please answer me!!!

  • I was looking for a long time for a phone with this standby time. I have five months using it and I am really pleased with it. I am not such a power talker (average of 15 minutes per day) - I recharge it at a two weeks interval. I have a few requests, I mailed them to philips, too. Maybe if they get more requests they will release a firmware upgrade: 1. There should be a possibility to have the external display on permanently. 2. The missing call announce should be louder, at a fixed interval and also, maybe a blink of the icon on the external screen would help. 3. For the phonebook: 3.1 Once you highlighted a name in the book, pressing OK should display the information about that contact, not the menu it displays now. 3.2 There should be a possibility to change the way the names are displayed (now they're sorted by "last name"). I would dlike to have them sorted by first name, as long as I have different fields for first and last name. 4. There isn't T9 function for Romanian. Overall it is the best phone I ever had.

  • No i haven't noticed any difference in sw ver 17 becuase the phone was dead after 24 h of using it. The repair was not done properly, so now i'm waiting for it to return, and if it keeps working then i hope i can tell u if i can find the improvements in sw ver 17

  • I know that some LCD driver chips have that "refresh rate reducing" property to reduce energy consumption. Having asked the local Philips Service, I realized that reducing the refresh rate of the inner screen of 650 extends battery life. Some people are more sensitive to refresh rate changes. This glittering or flickering is normal I mean...I love my 650 :)

  • just feel it, i like the batteries of all xenium type, and now what?! flip mode!!like j-phone!!!

  • The screen flickers in ECO mode, because every pixel of the screen doesn't stay full ON, the phone turns that pixel On and Off at a high rate...human eye sees it like it's on, but when the phone is moving (sideways for example) you can see it flickering. :)

  • Have you noticed the LCD screen flickering when display is set to Eco Mode?

  • If you are just looking for a phone, NOT a TOY, then here is the best match... With an unbelievable battery life, good casing quality, and elegant color options this phone is a real "business" phone. However, it's hard to find accessories (usb data cable, handsfree set) for Philips 650 (Xenium 9@9c) in the market. By the way, if you need to take photos, buy a real digital camera, which will significantly give better results than any cellular phone camera.

  • Look at the PHILIPS XENIUM 9@9i or its equivalent 660 in Europe. Philips listens to you and have come up with a built in 1.3MP camera with the same specs as the 650. Cheers to Philips and long battery life.

  • Did you notice any new features for ver.17?

  • Software version 17 is out now. Yust got my phone back from a repair and it has version 17 now.

  • 9@9C looks cool and I'm going to buy it.This brand isn't popular in my country.Someone tell me about the quality of Xenium9@9C!!!

  • Has someone got informations about the 9@9i which is the 9@9c son with a 1.3M camera ? I just found a picture on mobilereview.com but not the feature list.

  • Just use the Philips site. Through the www.clubphilips.com and you will be able to set up your phone over the air with the requested settings.

  • ... been using my philips xenium 9@9c for almost 2 months now. i heard 9@9c is just d same with the 650 model. same design but some difference on the label. i was able to download GPRS/MMS settings from pc after surfing the web. too bad i forgot the site, and after i switched SIM cards (Globe-SunCellular) i messed up with the configurations. I cant find the sign this time after endless searching. can anyone share me if you know a site for downloading GPRS/MMS settings. thanks.

  • Can someone please tell me whether i could buy this "bat champion" phone, in Australia. Have seen it. I kinda interested..

  • Danny,*#7337*# is reset code,and *#4732*# is firmware code.

  • Standby time - Eternity Forever !

  • Does anybody know how to make a factory reset of the phone?

  • no camera, look

  • hi, my concern is the display of missed calls and unread sms on external screen (already been discussed i know...). Is the actual version capable of having the external display on all the time (thus showing missed calls/sms and clock). won't it stay on when there is a missed call. it is a pain in the ass to press the side button every know and then to check for missed calls !

  • This phone from Philips is really neat! The design is simple and classic, somewhat conservative though, but i like it. It's not flashy but it looks decent. You'll know people will take you seriously when they see you flip it out from you pocket. It's not feature packed like the newer models nowadays but it serves its purpose which is calling and texting. Maybe a built in camera, a video recorder or an FM radio tuner could've made this phone a perfect 10. performance-wise, it has great battery life which ideal when travelling.

  • can anyone tell me whether tis phone have camera???

  • Customer support of Philips is so bad! They don't have website for customer discussion, no website for downloading firmware, java app, and tips. The cover of philips 650 is scratched very quickly, if U take the phone in hard surface and set vibrate --> it will come bad

  • gr8 phone...very good java applications..but nobody is buyin it.....that means something...

  • I have this phone for 2 months now and I'm very satisfied with it. The only thing I miss is a way to copy the contacts from the phone to the sim card.

  • its one of the best phones available in the market.. main keys r 1. long life battery 2. cool n stylish 3. provokes to feel good for those, forget to carry charger

  • Just received! Good and cool phone, but some problems with the external LCD. Why it always turn off after 10 seconds ? It's uncool for missed call ou SMS. Push the lateral button to see the hour or the messages is not easy and pratical. Any hope for a new firmware, or a tip to keep the external LCD always ON. Ok, the battery will go down faster, but this is not a bog problem for me. Thx a lot Hoag'

  • In the Organiser menu, is there o possibility to insert bithdays? Is the phone ringing on the birthdays? I played with it at a shop and did not find this possibility. Thnaks

  • Don't worry. Outside display will show missed call symbol or SMS message symbol. But after 10 seconds display will blank. Push the side button and display will illuminate again and you'll see the symbols again until you clear them by reading SMS or look in missed calls.

  • hi i am frm spore and i would like to purchase this phone. but i have some doubts, if i hav a msg or a miss call wat will the external lcd show??

  • Here is what comes when I press *#4732*#: Sv 02280013 Center 65535 Counter 255 Date 255 255 65535 So it seems that my firmware version is 13. And I found out (thanks to this thread) that I can upgrade it at the retailers shop. Are there any charges or the upgrade is for free? Is the upgrade worth the price to pay? What is the difference between firware versions 13 and 15? Thanks for entertaining my questions!

  • Thank You F4pr. *#4732*# works well. But what does other numbers that come show? Especially the Date. And where can I find some Java Applications for the phone? Thanks Again

  • 200,- by Media markt in The Netherlands.. Very good phone. one month stand by time. Very good quality. I use this phone a month

  • I've posted the steps to check firmware version on the phone some time back, you need to read the past comments. I think 15 is still the latest version.

  • HOW do I check the firmware version? WHERE can I download some java application for the phone?

  • Superb battery life, great finish and looks, this will be the best selling model from PHILIPS this year. On a whole superb performer.

  • Good cellphone, loud ringtone, long life battery, small, automatic power on-off. Mobilephone tool software can convert wav ringtone to adp.

  • How do I check the firmware version? How long should I charge the battery for the first time? My battery does not seem to be working properly. I liked the executive looks of the phone. Overall I liked it

  • I have upgraded the software from version 11 to 15. No problem. Is 15 the latestest version?

  • Hi, I received my 9@9C (650) 2 days ago. A no thrills, plane and simple cell phone. Nothing more, nothing less. I juste wanted a phone I could use...as a phone! Without gadgets I never use. However, I do got the original VGA cam. (which is for sale btw:-) Ciao Dennis (the Netherlands)

  • I bought it about 3 weeks ago @ Indonesia, it still using firmware version 13 :( + nice battery life. +++ + nice design, altough a little bit fat. + loud song, altough a little bit scratchy. - sms not automatically saved into archieve, when SIM full, don't have any option to select where we want to save the sms. - sms sorted in ascendent, not descendent. - can't read phone book from the SIM if the card obsolote, siemens cellphone can. - not too good lcd, compared to another vendor. - must choose between two, phone books from the mobile phone or from the SIM, can't mixed it together.

  • You can only upgrade firmware at the service centre.

  • anyone know where to download firmware for philips 650(9@9C)? I have searched in internet but can not find it anywhere.

  • I was told by philips service centre that they normally will only have new firmware every 6 months if there is a need to solve bugs.... Ver.15 should be releasedd in Feb/Mar 05... so ver.16 will be around Aug 05??....

  • To make things worst, the user manual is bad also. There are many things that are not documented. For example the blinking missed calls/sms icons. This is why earlier on someone was asking whether the missed sms icon with ! is normal or not.

  • I've bought this one for 3 months, and I know: Philips seem not upgrade firmware. Softwares are so bad, I think Philips mobile has the worst software in comparison with other mobile. Only battery is good

  • Best talk time in a phone that you can dream of

  • I have checked with Philips n was informed that the firmware version 11 and version 15 are for different LCD screen and will not be compatible between the two

  • hy alzz...i work in a gsm shop in romania..trust me..philips 650 ..itz the best choice..for a medium phone..somb said that u need a camera on ya phone..come on..if u want to take pictures..buy a digital camera..indeed it lasts between 10 day and 14..with a medum 20 minutes talking per day... itz one of the best phones i have seen.. peace !

  • I bought this phone a few days ago. Does anyone noticed any flickering on the main screen when the phone is in Autonomy mode ???? Thanks.

  • It is the same on my phone. I guess this is there because they want to inform you that you have missed an SMS message ;) Any news on what is the latest firmware? Is there something newer than version 15? And how does it blink (is it in regular intervals) when there is a missed call or SMS?

  • Need too check when you received a SMS, the SMS icon has an exclamation mark inside a red lined triangle at the left bottom end? Mine have, wonder if it is some error or what. Thanks.

  • anyone knows if it can be used on Cingular in Usa ? tnc

  • for who's interested...u can get it of e-bay for a few hours, buy it now price is 213+shipping, item located in US. I think is a good deal, I just got me one, hope it works with Cingular in USA. :)) Tnx me later hehe

  • Good batery life, i've rechearge it 2 weeks ago , 1 hour talk time and i still have 2 lines of batery.one time i have a problem with my screen(doesn't show anithing).Fingerprents visible on batery cover , but overall it well deserve the money !

  • for its features, it's well worth the price. If you're lucky to have found a camera attachment, good for you. I've got many pictures of my dog using its camera and the photo quality is fairly decent for its class...BETTER than any of the nokia's using the VGA format. Too bad it doesn't have the BEDJ function. Too bad...after sales support in the Philippines sucks. I wish they did not do away with the "first choice" guarantee where your phone, if found to have defects can be replaced...delivered to your doorstep at that and has worldwide coverage.

  • I've been using this Xenium for about a month, and have tested the talking time was 8 hrs 45 mnts (so it's longer than manual says: 8 hrs 30 mnts). Overall it's great and it'll better than the upcoming new Xenium model (the candybar design: 9@9-8).

  • I have the Philips 650 now for a month and i love the design. The performance of the battery is really outstanding. More than 2 weeks standby with regular use. Phonemenu is also great. Ringtones are to weak but that's the only thing on the phone i can find.

  • Look around in DJ, KJ n Summit, can't find 9@9C phone. Can someone tell me where to buy in Petaling Jaya and how much? Is the camera accessories available in Malaysia as well?

  • could sb tell me how much this phili costs?

  • I have the phone for 3 weeks now. I love the battery life. I only charged it once, and it already lasts for over 2 weeks with regular calling. I also think the quality of the sound is very good and the handsfree option is perfect (the other one can hear u and u can hear him). For me there are no negative points.

  • i have just offered 650 model.Hope it's better than 330, 625, 820 and 535 I had before :)

  • Between Philips 650 and 655 what would you recommand. It is a very high difference between polyphonic 32 voices and 64 ? Thx.

  • By holding both phones in my hand: 650 and 855, I can say that build quality of 650 is better. Now that I've been using 650 for a while I can say that it is a great phone, the only thing that needs improovement is software. The most important fault is that it does not show a missed call or message on the outer display. I have firmware version 12 and it does not even blink every now or then. I think it should simply light one pixel and leave it on in case of a missed call or message. Since version 15 already blinks now and then we will probably see some further improovement concerning this function.

  • Thanks Peter!

  • If you don't need a camera, I would suggest you a Philips 650 as it has much longer battery life. Otherwise they are more or less the same - both look great in my oppionion ;)

  • Please answear to this:Between Philips 650 and Philips 855,which one would you choose? Thanks!

  • You can only save it to archive manually. The default inbox is in the SIM.... I also hope Philips can provide the option the auto store in archive.... ha ha

  • The price in Malaysia right now is RM899. It was RM828 (promotion price) last week.

  • Can this phone autosave incoming message into archive when inbox is full? (incoming message always save into sim's memory)

  • How much is the phone selling in Malaysia without contract? Mine don't have the OLED suddenly light up problem..... yet.

  • To users that bought this phone in Malaysia Can some one post your firmware version. I need to verify my version whether it is older then the rest out there. Called the service center but they don't have the info. You can follow the procedure posted by Brainstorm below to display the version. Thanks.

  • AlexL This phone is already available in Malaysia at certain stores only. Sungai Wang & Ampang Point.

  • Has anyone experienced that the blue OLED suddenly lights up with no outstanding items? It does not go off until you open & close the flip.

  • Where can I download firmware 15 for my phone (firmware 13)? How can I upgrade firmware? Anyone can download ringtone (.wav) with size>500kb?

  • Does anyone know when it will be available in Malaysia? Tks

  • Mine also version 15. You think other version will have GPRS counter??

  • Guest What is your firmware version? You can follow the procedure posted by Brainstorm below to find out the version.

  • My phone is activated for GPRS, but also no GPRS counter, only GSM counter... don't know why.

  • How long can your 650 last? I @ Singapore, the phone lasted only 5 days with total of less then 2hr talk, 100 SMS/MMS, minimum use on infared, Auto on/off activated, LCD contrast level 2 - 10sec, vibration on, GPRS off, animation off, don't play games.

  • My phone does not display the GPRS counters icon (at Call Infomation->Call counters->) but only the GSM counters. Is is normal for phones that has not activated GPRS? Other brands does display GPRS counters regardless whether GPRS was activated or not.

  • Can't agreed more. Also hope that the external display will indicate something for SMS/miss call. Or even better, provide option to enable periodic alert for SMS/miss call.

  • I hope Philips will correct this random flashes in the next firmware version. I know this phone suppose to save power, but Philips can just use one character ! as an indication for outstanding items instead of larger icons at a more regular and shorter intervals. It would be better if useer can configure the interval they want. This phone is said to be for bussiness people and I think businness people can't afford to miss calls or SMSs in a random manner. I don't think we want to press the side button every minute in a meeting!

  • Mine also random, 10min, 1min, 6min..... think its normal. Cheers.

  • When there are missed calls or unread SMS, what time interval does the blue OLED flashes? Mine flashes at irregular intervals, like 4 mins then 10 mins. Is this normal or I have to upgrade the firmware? My version is 11.

  • Not sure if the firmware is for all region. ASIA version should be 15 as of 28 Jan 05. Saw the date on the mobile phone tools info when connected to my phone.

  • Its in the manual. Highest SAR value is 0.74W/kg.

  • What is the SAR value for this phone? I can't find the value in the manual.

  • Is the firmware version 15 for all regions or specefic regions only? Region is as Europe, Asia,...etc.

  • You can just bring it to your local Philips service centre and request for a firmware upgrade. They will do it for you. No issue.

  • Can you actually get new firmware for Philips 650 phone? I did not find it anywhere.

  • how do you download new firmware to the phone?

  • Please post your firmware version here. Mine is version 15. Just key in *#4732*# and it will show you some numbers, the first no. show 02280015, where the last two digi indicate the firmware version. Anyone's firmware allow them to attach address book's phone number in SMS? Waiting for this option be be enable.... Cheers

  • You can activate the external screen without opening the phone. just press the side key for two seconds and the external screen will light up. Cheers.

  • I bought philips 650 1 month ago, I have some oppinion: 1. A bit stupid software: SMS not arranged by time, can not download large file from computer, phonebook doesn't have birthday atribute etc... 2. Good battery life but can not active external LCD when it poweroff for saving energy. 3.Nice design 4.Philips doesn't have website for update firmware

  • I try to download some java apps from zedge.no,using my Philips Xenium9@9c,and wap site. The phone try to connect at http://69.93.61.170/java/apps/1/2.jar and an error occurred, like "there is no app at that address".I try to connect using a regular browse(I.E.),and the app is there.Using a Nokia phone, everything is OK.Anybody figure out how to solve that issue?Thanks!P.S. Compatibility whith zedge apps is good in according with site specifications.

  • The address book is basically the same as the other phones. The only function I see lacking is to send the contacts out as business card via sms. It can only send out via infrared. As for the SMS function, it is similiar to siemens, sony ericsson type. Not as good as Nokia's T9 SMS function, but unless you are SMS king, I find its T9 good enough for daily use. You can choose to send SMS to multi or single contacts. The MMS function can do simple photo editing like add text, icon, frame, rotate.

  • How is the sms function? Is it user friendly?

  • Reason for me buying this phone is primarily the design, and of course the autonomy. It's got a conservative yet classy look to it, well suited for the executive type. Having used the phone I'm pleased to find that it has what matters for a mobile, good screen(i'm actually impressed, what with its claimed autonomy i'd expect to be rather bland or dim for energy saving, but on the contrary quite vivid and well-contrast), pleasant polyphony, speakerphone, voice dial, infrared sync etc. Feels good to hold, loud enough for a polyphonic, more than enough memory for contacts and messages, and batteries lasting for days to weeks without recharging, I'd recommend this phone to those who are getting tired of the same old designs of Korean phones, don't want to blow their budget on more expensive flip phones with unneccessary functions, and not having to worry about batteries running out every two days :)

  • some ppl says that the phonebook of Philips in general is really annoying...is that so??? Really need your kindly reply

  • Purchased my 9@9c today. Cost me $180 on Canal Street in Manhattan. Perfect phone in every way superceeding my expectations. Except the T9 is a little uncomfortable, or maybe I havn't fully learned how to use it yet. I find myself pressing just as many keys during T9 mode as when I spell everything out manually and I have no idea how to make punctuation marks, but that's just probably because I'm stupid. One more minor complaint is that although I'm using the same network and account as with my last phone (V400), I get a much worse signal. This may have something to do with improper sim card setup, or perhaps my network is having problems today. I recommend this phone to serious people who need a practical stylish phone. This phone isn't for the immature.

  • brilliant. clear reception, sound. batt lasts forever. nice loud ringer. easy to silence, games and tones are cool too.

  • just wanna to say thanks to philips.. this is really nice phone cell

  • Finally an interesting and really original phone both in design and ergonomics, very funtional, outstanding stand-by period,no problem with IR communication, solidly buildt. The screen quality could have been better though....but it's probably about energy saving. Bravo Philips and welcome at last in the real gsm world

  • You lot who complain about this phone should THINK FIRST! Question: Why was this phone created? Answer: for businessmen & people who actually use a phone for PHONECALLS. That's what it's all about. The memory is enough to keep your appointments in. It looks classically stylish. And the most inportant feature is BATTERY LIFE. & when it comes 2 this feature, all other brands are left in awe, compared to Philips' Xenium line. All Xenium phones had extremely long battery life for their time, & this 1 is no different. So what if u don't have a camera in the phone, or an external colour-display? Those are made for FUN-phones...... This is a FUNCTIONAL phone.... And an absolutely magnificent one at that. IT RULES ALL, period.

  • Its been awarded the "LONGEST BATTERY LIFE PHONE" in Malaysia by the MALAYSIA BOOK RECORDS. This feat has not been accomplished by any mobile phone maker in the world! Its just superb battery life!

  • dear,. . . we just bought philips Xenium 9@9C, may i know any information or news about this as directly or any program. regards, edison

  • and what does economy mode mean?

  • I bought this phone a month ago. Let me highlight the pros n cons. Pros: 1)It has got a long battery life (20 days if economy mode is used) 2)A reasonably large TFT Screen with great clarity. 3)Great Design and ergnomics 4)Large 7 MB onboard memory 5)Easy navigation 6)Great sound Cons: 1)Group transfer of files via IRDA is not supported. 2)There is a 50K limit on the data transferred via IRDA

  • Its a good phone! Long battery life minus all the crap like camera etc. Its a business mans phone and i enjoy traveling without my charger. Philips should come out with more of the Xenium models! Keeep it up guys at philips, u know what we want, dont want to loose a call when it matters most!

  • can i recive pictures or ringtone throug the IRDA thanks a lot

  • Its a great phone for those Business man who are not fussy and just need to be connected coz it has a damn long battery life. Bought one and just lovin it. Thanks Philips for being diffrent from the Nokias and Motos!ITS DAMN BLADY GOOD BATTERY LIFE PHONE!

  • For those that are interested, I saw an ebay powerseller selling this phone at US$175. Worldwide mailing fee at US$30-40 depending on location. Thought its quite cheap.....

  • Great phone, sure is a Xenium! Outer display is informative and clear and that 1100mah gives a great standby times!

  • Hahaahhaahhahahaha this phone is shit my friedns had a Philips trust me its only the looks i know it can deceive the eye but not mine dont use philips its sucks Philips pkease do a favour andd stick to hair dryers !!!!!!!!!!!!!1 at least make something u can be proud of ur phones suck u cant compete with others !!!!!!

  • cool looking phone, impressive battery life( 5 days normal use), great design and use of materials. Looks classy. too bad it lacks important features like built-in cam, video recorder/player, bluetooth, fm radio/ mp3. i reaaly like the design hope philips has an upgrade for this with the lacking features reconsidered but still with same design.

  • It is a realy good mobile. Personally I miss realy very much the SD/MMC card slot and USB. I hope that those features soon are also available in Philips mobiles.

  • I have this phone for a few months now. it is really easy and nice to use and oh my, finally i can call and call and sms and sms the whole day without worrying that i will not be able to answer an important call because of 'low bat'.

  • Why do I read so many different opinions about the battery, Stand-by and Talk time??? I only want this Philips 650 if it really has a Stand-by of weeks and if you can call more than 5 hours with it? I want like the Xenium 9@9 to lose my recharger because I only use it once in 2 weeks ;) Anymore ideas about this? Plz e-mail me!

  • it's good

  • I bought this phone a couple of days ago and I'm disappointed because it's defective. The phone sometimes turns off and reset itself when I'm making a call. Sometimes when i'm placing a call i can't hear any tone or voice at the other end and i saw a message "call failed." this happens many times and frustrates me. Once I got a call and when I tried to answer it it keeps ringing and i couldn't stop until I removed the battery. It's the most stupid thing that a phone does.

  • Good design, standard features. The bad thing is you'll have to open the flip to see any msg or miss call. If you searching for name, you'll have to scroll down one by one, it's quite a pain if you compare with Nokia products. The profile is quite confusing. The baterry can last more than a week if you using Autonomy Mode, in Normal Mode it just last about 3 or 4 day. The phone is satisfying if you just looking for a standard stylish phone.

  • 650 is just what i need!!!! going in trips without looking for the plugs to charge it as soon as i enter a new country I can leave for at least one week without carring a charger, Thanks a lot Philips for this phone.

  • hello i was looking at the website and you got great phones i like to know how much is the philips 650 email me back please thanks

  • For those of you who are interested in this model, here is my two-cent. Last week I purchased a Xenium 9@9c which I believe is the equivalent to the 650 in Europe or US. My battery only lasts for about 4 days and that is if I don't talk or send send text messages too often. I have asked Philips about this and they said that they have released a flyer in Jakarta, which I did not see prior to purchasing the unit, and it says that it can last on standby for ONLY 1 week. The explanation is that it depends on the network in the country which you are in. I wish I knew that before. In addition, the phone is really slow compared to my old Siemens ME45 when moving from one category or message to another. On top of that, the T9 program can't seem to learn new words so when messaging with new vocabulary or other languages, it's a real pain. In addition, it can't even send business card over text messages! This is for me the biggest downside. When someone needs a phone number that i have and he/she is not near me (you can do it via infrared), you will have to manually type the number. I had to call Philips to confirm this and yes, for some bizarre reason, their software does not support sending business cards over text messages! So yes, I am disappointed. I think aesthetically the phone looks beautiful and the tri-band is useful when travelling to places like the US. But apart from those features, I am turning back to my Siemens since it's just more convenient and faster for daily usage.

  • Perfect

  • How do I send business cards over SMS with the 9@9c????? I can't seem to do it? With my old Siemens, I can just select the card and have an option to send. Here the only option that I can find is to send via infrared. Anyone with info, please advice. Many thanks.

  • Rsanthosh : According the rumors, it should costs about 240$ (219 Eur). I just would like to know who's selling that device in Europe. Any suggestion ????

  • Provide me the price for philips 650

  • Can someone PLEASE e-mail me where I can buy this phone in the Netherlands, or maybe where I can order it from Belgium or Germany??!!!

  • Stop saying that 800hrs can't be true ! I get 543hrs of stby with my extended battery on my Ericsson R520. Philips is using a new bettery technology to provide these 800hrs.

  • Woldex Online is already selling this phone. Anone got it? I am wondering how loud is the noise in the background mentioned on mobile-review.com, or was it eliminated with the final version?

  • No bluetooth,no external memory card?

  • nothing mistake, 30 days stanby is true.... so cool

  • i'll be waiting.. this phone the main feature that i need in a mobile device which is batery stand by time... 800 h stand by that would do..

  • Does anyone know if this phone is forsale and works in USA??? and any idea where can i purchase this phone UNLOCKED??? I can't find anything on Ebay.

  • 33 days standby?? That MUST be a mistake. Philips, don't lie, tell us the truth!

  • If you still get 10 days of regular usage for a 4 year old battery this is great. And 800 hours is for standby, so real life usage naturally reduces battery life.

  • Well 'm still using my 4-year old Philips Xenium 929 with 1200mAh battery. The most only last 10 days regular usage. I don't believe 800hrs standby !

  • There is a price for 659 in Hong Kong already but don't have any info of 650. Will the release of this phone will delay??

  • At first, camera was important fiture which a phonecell must have but then battery performance stand up as the most important for me. I'll buy the phone...released allready??

  • that's the third diferent foto I see here, which one is the real one?

  • Full spec can be found here :

  • when, can i find in Indonesia? Phillip 650 built in camera or not? this battery stand-by (650) same like xenium 9@9 ++ or not?

  • Any mp3 sharing any camera any bluetooth, yes we know that philips uses new technology but got much bugs in developent of cellular phone softwaring and they wouldnot find the the way of these solutions. We had sen in the older models....Philips must first solve the software bugs..........

  • Message To Philips No camera? Fine. No 262k color display? Is alright. But what I needs is Bluetooth, Bluetooth, Bluetooth...... Please

  • Looks good, great features but no sad part no FM.

  • seems like a really good phone, whereas it is also very beautifull. I really wish that Philips some day will bring those phones to my country, Greece

  • What about a good battery life in Philips 855 model?

  • Philips was making washing machines under its own brand name before they sold it to Whirlpool. They still have a share in it. Not so idiot after all

  • PHILIPS r Nr.1 ;) Susanto The price in Bulgaria will be 300$ VIVA PHILIPS

  • any body knows the price?

  • Philips doesn't make washingmachines. You idiot.

  • In Xenium 9@9 : Standard battery, Li-Ion 850mAh Up to 810 h Up to 7 h 30 min In Xenium 650, battery is 1100mAh ! So Standby = 800h & UseTime = 8h

  • It's good to be not having camera on the phone. Because I can send photo from PDA and company won't allow phone with camera.

  • "Optional digital VGA camera" ? Please Philips, stick with washing machines, it will be better for us...

  • it will be great success if it is priced Rs.7000/ for india. the indian consumers are changing towards clamshell.

  • Finally, when I've just bought Xenium 9@9++ (price 99,99 ) in Germany, Philips did amazing phone again. Clamshell Xenium 650 with many features and color display. Well done Philips. I knew that this fantastic phone would appear. Althoug "Xenium series" is famous for its longlasting battery I didn't expect such long time on stby. Philips proved again its leadership in this field. They are definetely recorders concerning battery life and have no competitors. When I decide to replace my new phone (Xenium 9@9++)it must be NEW XENIUM again.

  • What's the price?

  • Can anyone tell me, when will this phone enter Indonesian Market. I kindda interesting with it. Specially if the battery last as long as it says. Thanks

  • it dus hav a camera, standard VGA 640*480. tom. awesome battery life tho, 33 days!

  • 800 hr battery is real. you can either see a good life battery on other Xenium phones. it`s a business phone. Very well Philips.

  • 800 hours standby??...must be a mistake, gsmarena!!

  • STN screen? COME ON...PHILIPS R U NUTZ? btw...the batt performance...800h???

  • no camera?????.sucks
