I've had this phone since 2007. It's excellent as a phone. The web only just gets you through but it's nice being off the grid these days. Sound is studio quality and never drops a call. Very nice design.

Have this phone, it surely looks nice, but I don't like it because two or three major flaws. First, the talking sound is way too low. Not inaudible, but with the least street noise, forget about hearing what the other person is saying. Big drawback. Second, keypad works ok for calling, but the slippery 'touch' surface is not good for fast texting. Lastly, photo camera is worthless.

Hi Billy, try this out, for me I don't upload pictures from using software or app, remove your Micro SD memory card, you will need a Micro SD to SD card adapter for this. Once you've inserted your micro SD to the SD card adapter, insert the SD to your computer and copy and paste into your micro SD. Re-insert back your micro SD to your E8 and view the picture on the phone. This way is faster to me instead of opening up your app and transfer from there. I've using this way for a long time and it works every time, same goes for my digital cam, I don't install my cmera CD software anymore, I just insert and re-insert the SD card for transfer anytime.

Hi guys, It's good to come back, I have been using Motorola E8 since 2009 and was contributing in this forum back then on and off. That said, I've owned 3 E8s, 1st one was bought brand new and sold to a friend used after 1 year, 2nd unit also a brand new one (current use) and 3rd unit bought used, 2 weeks old mint condition in a box with all the original accessories as back up - bottom line, I love this phone!. This is still one of my favorite "phone", I mean a basic communication tool in which, incoming and outgoing call quality are of utmost importance. I also own a smartphone HTC HD2 now but my calls are all made from my current Motorola E8 leaving the HD2 as my backup and organizational tool. Today, I only collect the old Motorolas, I have a V9 Ferrari Limited Edition (weekend use), 2 ROKR E8s (1 as back up and the other in use everyday), 1 U9, 1 V3i, and proudly announcing that I have just purchased a V8 (mint condition in original box) recently waiting for it to arrive. CrystalTalk feature from my experience is best on V8 and V9 as even though E8 is slightly below these 2 maybe due to the its size, Reception too is stronger on V8 and V9. I'm not so sure whether the current Motorolas have the same CrystalTalk quality as I suspected the manufacturing quality control is no longer controlled by Moto themselves - hope I'm wrong on this. To me, CrystalTalk feature is still THE FEATURE that should be built in all mobile phones. For those who are not aware of it, CrystalTalk was patented and only produced by Motorola on reducing background noise while automatically increasing speech volume so that the other end can still hears you loud and clear enough in noisy environment. This is one technology I got hooked on until today and I don't see any phone manufacturers making headway on it except on bluetooth headset manufacturer like Jawbone. I'm on Motorola CommandOne now with CrystalTalk technology and its really good too. Now that I've purchased another V8, I'll be looking for the BX81 or 80 battery with an extended battery door cover for much longer talk time. With it, I'll be selling off one of my E8 and will be looking to add an ugly but tough phone collection - the Tundra Va76r. Since ROKR E8's 2008 launch, it still looks "futuristic" and different, even until today I got guys asking me out of curiosity what kind of phone that I'm carrying that's different - looks totally black without the keypads but with a big "C" (the fastscroll wheel) design on it. Let's hope Google can revive the Motorola phone division and continue to refine the CrystalTalk technology, this would make it a better "true" phone when background noise will never irritates the other end during conversation while volume, clarity and strong reception are and should be the ultimate "must have" in all phones that we use in my opinion. Just look at what kind of signal/reception strength they have built-in in some well branded smartphones these days, which cost as much as a notebook, ironic don't you think?

I've been using the E8 since 2008, and whenever I'm disappointed with something, I always end up realising how awesome it actually is beneath those shortcomings. It truly is a smartphone in its price class, but only when you mod it. Without modding, it's simply a feature-rich phone. The build quality feels expensive and looks expensive, though it's one of the cheapest smartphones around. Over the years my scroll wheel has become defective and no longer works, my back cover has lost its grip (and I've shaved off the grey rubber coating leaving a metallic shine), UI has become crazy (sometimes a lot of lag but can be solved with overclocking; drains battery a lot though), and my battery life has decreased manifolds. However, no other phone in the budget category (it was not really budget when I bought it; S$200-300) can give me mplayer (can play almost all video formats), docx reader, pdf reader, overclocking, quake 2, psx emulator, etc. And all this in a nice and sleek, slim bar form factor. If you're not into modding, however, I'd recommend something like the Nokia X2-02, which won't give you YouTube (the E8 will) or a native (not JAVA) document reader. Every time I wish I hadn't bought this phone (again, mostly UI issues) I marvel at its capabilities.

I noticed the bug with the message. I had just bought the phone and was exchanging long messages with a friend of mine. All incoming messages exceeding the normal length of a text message was cut-off at the normal length. This also had a snowball effect. That next time I would receive a message exceeding 1 message length. It used to be cut-off at 1 message length and the remaining part of the previous long message used to get added to it. To put it in short, it lead to a lot of misunderstandings and lent a hand in ruining everything. I still use the phone...great for music...excellent battery life (something Motorola was not known for)...very sturdy build. The only other bug that I found is that the clock slows down over a period of time, you have to readjust time every few months. and that eerie thing it does...suddenly display lights up for no apparent reason or gives off a glow.

Hey, I've read about how the phone starts lagging over time. I'm curious as to whether that's because of having a lot of mp3's and pictures on the phone or something that naturally happens to the E8? I'm thinking about getting this phone, and i don't really have any intention of putting songs or pics on it. Some might call me crazy but I just bought another 2 days old E8 mint condition unit from a friend - just for back up. I'm currently using one and just loved its features and battery standby. While many are into smartphone these days, I still prefers to use my E8 strictly for communication while keeping my HTC HD2 as my 2nd choice working phone, to keep notes, calendars, task, news and so on.

You may not be able to save the msg in Memory card. However, you can save it on Phone memory. For this, Go to Messages, On the Messages view, click on Options and go to settings. Select Test messages and then Preferred storage.

Yes it is true... I have been using this phone for long and right now, I have got line 1400+ msg in Inbox and the same no of msg in sent folder while there are some 200 msg in Folder as well. All this just a 4GB external card. However, the phone slows down while trying to open messages..

Sajal, From the theme page, click option and choose create new theme, then put your preferred image and ringtone for new themes. I've created couple of new themes myself, I've got LOUD, SOFT, NORMAL and SLEEPING SOFT (for use only when I go to bed so that it will not disturb my wife even if it rings).

Only one function either vibra or ringing supports while receive any call. Making a playlist is a tough work in this device otherwise it is a wonderful device from moto it has been one year but still I didn't get any technical error. Hello people, I'm back again... I love to read many comments, not only from here on E8, I've got another HTC HD2 too. Only hope that some guys put things nicely and constructive. I'm gonna say this again since my previous comments were buried under hundreds of others. As of now, 13th Oct 2010, I've officially owned 2 E8s, sold my previous one to a friend who has followed me when I first bought the phone. Since we have been talking from the day I bought my 1st E8 in August 2008, he knew very well how I sounded and he ended up bought my used E8. I bought another E8... err.. surprisingly in July this year. I was lucky I found about 10 of them from a friend's mobile shop and boy they were snapped up real fast. I bought it new and since then I bought another V9 Ferrari limited edition and a Z9. I've another V3 at home and I would say all of them have their strengths and weaknesses. The only difference is that V3 doesn't have Crystaltalk. Even without that, clarity is still above many. I love Motorola on its sound which has a mixture of little bass, which makes it sound more natural as compared to some other makes, the treble is what they are focusing on. with higher treble, the clarity improves... and so does the irritating background noise. E8 Contrary to others, I've found that E8 has the best battery standby and talktime as compared to the other Motos mentioned above. I'm using it between Mondays and Fridays, For Saturdays and Sundays, I'll use the V9 Ferrari. Frankly, the V9 Ferrari only lost out on the battery compartment. E8 still ranked as the winner for me as overall favorite as I talk quite a bit. I'm still surprised at the E8's look and design as 2 days ago I went to a shop looking for a leather pouch, the guys working there asked me what phone this is. He thought this is one latest model from one of the phone makers and said he's never seen the fastscroll wheel, morphing keypad and the completely black design which he said were really cool. (Yes, maybe he's one fresh phone salesman). V9 FERRARI Real attention grabber, the tactile feedback when you press the keypad is really good. Slim, solidly built, camera's fantastic (yes better than E8 eventhough both are 2MP). Like I said, the weakness lies in the battery compartment. I had to charge it at least twice or sometimes 3 times a day (unless I use the spare battery I have). Overall this phone's best for low phone user, incoming voice sounded fantastic (the best one for me), better than E8's and there's no doubt for me, it sounded even better than my HTC HD2 which costs a lot more. I have also tested against my Jawbone prime bluetooth on background noise cancelling and the feedback I got was V9 Ferrari is better. (Yes, I couldn't believe it myself too). I bought it for collection purpose. Call me crazy, this is my 2nd V9 Ferrari - again. Guess what, I sold my first one to the same friend, he bought it for his son this time. (maybe he's as crazy as me too, LOL) Z9 I thought if I have a good bar phone (E8), a clamshell (V9 Ferrari) so might as well complete my collection on a slide. Strangely enough, the Z9 uses the same battery as my V9 ferrari but the standby is longer, could be due to the V9 Ferrari's dual screen. And when you talk with the V9 Ferrari, the flip opened external screen has the Ferrari logo lighted up all the time, so I guess it's a matter of sacrificing battery time for elegants. The good thing about Z9 are, Crystaltalk, google maps (GPS) and for me is the Burgundy body shine it has. Its special daring color Motorola used on this phone that separates it from many others. The phone feels real solid when held, maybe a little on the heavy side for some ladies. So there you go, E8 is still my favorite. if I can find a special battery door and extended battery for my V9 Ferrari, then V9's my pick. Unfortunately, the extended battery door is only available for V9x which is slightly smaller for the V9 Ferrari. For the problem of E8's LAG, yes, without doubt, it's true BUT not really that bad and it's not all the time. Most of the time, it's user defined. For instance, when someone's in a hurry, and trying to make a call, scrolling through the contacts and it happens to lag... in milliseconds, the person would hate it at that time. I can accept this little issue as I'm used to window "hangs" on my PC or even PDA phones. It's just part and parcel of things, just learn to accept it and have a less stress life on small things like these.

Review of the audio quality of E8's music player : The first thing I noticed about the audio quality of the E8 was how remarkably flat the audio was, and I mean that in a good way. Most handset of this price range have a pronounced low or high end, which is done to hide their deficiency in the rest of the frequency spectrum because the target audience usually likes that kind of audio quality. But the E8 breaks that tradition and goes for a more natural sound that is consistent across the audio spectrum. The bass on the E8 is not of the pounding and muddy variety that you would usually come across in this price range. It is tight, precise and well weighted. When you put them on for the first time you may feel the bass is a bit on the light side. But play them for a while and you will notice the subtle thump that they offer which is far more satisfying than the meaningless boom that you would normally hear. The mids are also clean and very clear, with the voices coming across with the right authority and precision. The highs are incredible; they are crystal clear and extremely sharp. You will notice that they go far higher than most other handsets, revealing more detail in the top- end than you will ever hear in this price range without ever becoming sibilant or harsh. Those coming in looking for thumping bass will be sorely disappointed, but if you want a clean, natural sound that is almost audiophile grade then you will love the E8.

hi all users. i am a very hi mobile changer. i keep changing mobile phones till now. i change my mobile every one month. and about the motorokr e8 . in my all used phones this phone is the wrost phone ever but only in the manner of battery. it's battery sucks all its good and classy features its battery coud't even run the phone for 6 hrs. and if you play the music or use the camra/internet it gets switched off in about 4 hrs. and don't even get switch on untill you put it on charging. it has very good features but battery spoiled everything. thanxs

Well, it is a very well built phones (quality build) but the software support is disappointed. First of all: the lag (it is slow even with modded firmware, in my case zMod 2.4.5). Second and very important for me: the battery life. It is not good. I can talk continuously only 2 h o(with battery fully recharged). Also I can listen only 8h of music playback with the wired headset. And the third problem: yes, the speaker whispers to you. It's quality is good but the volume is too quiet. The fourth and the last: it cannot ring & vibrate at the same time (EM30 can do that).

a very good phone, for music in specially, long lasting battery 3-4 days with music listening. good display, the keypad is briliant. camera is preety good, nice "alive" colors, no autofocus but the phone is not for pictures. nothing to complain unless the lag that sometimes appear. i regret i sold it. one of the best music phones in the world.

this phone rocks. im not a camera lover so i dont mind if the camera sucks. If you want a good camera, find a phone dedicated for camera. This phone with a stock firmware is truly slow. But when u modd it with a modded firmware, it unleashes its potential.

Hi there, Not sure where you can download the Motorola Phone Tool software. In my earlier comment, I did mention that I bought another unit of brand new E8 and the MPT CD is inside the red box that contains the manuals. There are 2 CDs inside, the MPT and the Windows player for music transfer software. If you purchase the E8 that comes with the box, the CDs should be inside, but if yours comes with "open box" like some websites are selling, then it's unfortunate for you. Free MPT software, I'm not sure where but you can try to google it.

Had this phone for about 1 year in heavy use. Design is great and making itself notable among other phones. Usability is bad linked with bad performance and slow response on actions made with phone. Even typing sms message the typing is painful since there is big delay with button reaction. Price is decent if looking for music player (has 2gb memory and memory card slot). But for other using like calling, texting or using calendar and mms this device is useless and I do not recommend it for anyone.

Hello E8 fan, You need a software called "Motorola Phone Tool". I found out that if your PC is on XP or XP2, it's easy to proceed on its connection and setting. I'm using Windows 7 now and I've found that I couldn't find the E8 phone while searching on the right modem when I try to configure. Since I've experience with V8 and both phones are running on Linux OS, I chose the V8 during configuration and now it worked perfectly. Do note that your data connection charges will apply and you'll be on EDGE speed which is still acceptable. I do not know whether it's my notebook problem or it's the compatibility problem with Windows 7, installing Motorola Phone Tool (MPT) version 5 gave me more problems so in the end I decided to go back with MPT version 4.2. Do not update to version 4.7 even though the free update is provided. This problem was exactly what I've encountered earlier so go with v4.2 and choose V8. I'll try to help as much as possible but I'm not a "high-tech" guy so if you encounter any issues, we'll share info here. Good luck.

Hello friend, Glad that you pointed out an option for me, the SE Elm. I've got no idea at all about this phone and did a review checking on some websites and one particular website - phone arena dot con's review mentioned as follow: ........"The handset comes with Noise Shield, an option that should filter the environmental sounds around you, but frankly, people on the other end didn�t find any difference. On the other hand, �Clear Voice� that is supposed to make the voice of your caller more distinctive and intelligible does exactly the opposite. All told, the device delivers good in-call quality." I don't think it's SE's fault as Motorola's initial Crystaltalk version was not prefect too. However, having used the V8, V9 Ferrari and E8, I feel Crystaltalk should outperform SE's Noise Shield. Given time, perhaps when refinement develop further, I believe it'll be better. Another feedback from a friend of mine who just purchased the Motorola bluetooth headset H17 paired to his iPhone 3GS, the result was fantastic, crystal clear, good volume and background noise cancellation was great. I called him when he was at a renovation site with ground breaking machine working nearby - I could hear him really loud and clear without knowing he's at a noisy environment and only once that I heard a faint buzzing sound. He was telling me that "it's really noisy here". I could detect improvements on this current version of Crystaltalk as he was using the Motorola H780 before this and both has Crystaltalk built in. H17 defintely outperformed the H780 in this department. Talking about buying another phone, today I just purchased another E8, brand new. (at one third of the price I paid for mine, LOL) It was a "left over" new phone unit from a neighborhood country and Motorola there decided to clear off all "old models" from their inventory. ZN5 was also available but all units were snapped up pretty fast as they were really cheap. So I guess I have to wait again for the competitions to come up with a good and reliable back ground noise reduction technology before deciding.

Hi there, I've been looking for updates for my E8 for a long time, even searched Motorola's different countries' website where some have updates for E8. I've downloaded couple of times and found out that almost all are for Vista purpose, nothing great for E8's system. Worst still, my E8 seems to not able to perform so well after that. I ended up did a master reset (prior to that I performed a backup via Motorola Phone Tool) and it has been superb ever since. From my experience on E8, don't update if possible unless your updates are from the official Motorola Service Centre.

Yes friend, I wanted to look for a phone to replace my E8 but I've been unsuccessful so far, maybe I've been too choosy becoz my criteria in a "PHONE", I mean a really good phone is for its basic functions: 1) Good & Stable reception 2) above average battery life 3) Noise reduction technology I suspect that I might have missed out some other phones with features specified on 1) & 2) above but none so far have noise reduction and voice volume amplification technology like crystaltalk. So its pretty hard for me to change.... at the moment. Even my bluetooth headset is Motorola H790, which is truly value for money unit. Tried out the HX-1 but don't like the difficulty in putting it on. Jawbone, Plantronics are good but a little pricey. Features wise, E8 can be yes or no, well if you are looking at specs like 3G, wifi, good camera and flash, E8 will lose out BUT if you look at features from another perspective, Fastscroll Wheel, morphing keypad, quality call (Crystaltalk), good reception, then E8 "still shines" when compared to others.... even though we can classify E8 as "not so new model anymore". Call me crazy, I'm looking at used E8 as it'll be cheap, to prepare for parts exchange in case needed and to avoid going back to Motorola's service centre where parts are expensive. Just for the crystaltalk technology, I've just purchased a V9 Ferrari edition for collection purpose as not many new Motorola phones nowadays have Crystaltalk technology anymore. For those of you interested to know more about the advantages of Motorola's Crystaltalk technology, I've re-posted the video clip to youtube, just key in "crystaltalk plus" and do the search. That video was from CES show last year.

Not so sure from my side, never used EM30 but heard that EM30 is practically similar to E8 BUT without the Fastscroll wheel, and morphing keypad. If budget is not an issue to you, I'll recommend the E8.

The camera is not good if compared to present generation of phones. I've been using it for about 1.5 years now, even though I'm a strong Motorola supporter, I must say this particular model has a subpar 2.0Mp camera. The previous models like V8 and V9 have a really good 2.0Mp camera, they are better than E8 and even better than many 2.0Mp camera of other makes during their era. Contrary to the above, overall I still like my E8 more than my previous V8 and V9 Ferrari for its easy handling (being a bar phone), the better music player, radio, the Fastscroll Wheel and the longer battery life. If camera is your priority, go for other models but if built quality, good reception, voice quality are important to you, I would strongly recommend this one. Recently I went to an IT mall with lots of mobile phone shops, to my surprise when I show them my E8, some of the counter sales guys don't even know what phone this is. They complimented its design, morphing keypad and the wheel - believe it or not, no other today's phones have this kind of design and E8 have been around since 2008. Personally I carry 2 phones to work, one E8 and another HTC HD2 as a backup phone + work organizer. I can actually carry only the HTC HD2 to work as it has everything I wanted ....except the stable, strong reception and Crystaltalk of Motorola and base on market price, the HTC HD2 can buy about 3 units of E8 in my country. So I really value my E8 than other more expensive phones.

Hi guys, I've been using this phone for about 1 1/2 years now, didn't really encounter major problems, just 1 minor issue, my phone hanged after I'd re-inserted back my Micro SD card passed to a friend saving some work for me. Did a "Delete all data" (master reset) & everything's fine now. Slowness (not really that bad) is something I can live with in exchange of good quality Voice call (Crystaltalk), stable signal reception, phone solidity, morphing keypad & Scrollwheel features. Overall, I'm satisfied with E8, infact, I would consider it as my personal favorite base on size, build & quality.

Hi , EM30 is cheaper version of E8. The differences are EM30 doesnt have a Omega wheel a.k.a scroll wheel EM30 has a mechanical keyboard - (E8 has a touch sensitive morphing keyboard ) Thatz pretty much it. If you are buying this phone for ipod replcement, go for E8.

Guys, I own this for 6 months now. I use a modded firmware Z-mod. - This phone is the slowest in its category. But the slowness is acceptable. If you are thinking of buying it, please check out the handset at the nearest store to see if the slowness is acceptable for you. - Camera quality is pathetic. If you are going to buy this for its 2 MP camera. Drop the idea at once. - Music quality is comparable to anyother phone in the same price band. Nothing exceptional here. But with a modded firmware you can install mplayer / rockbox and you will virtually be able to play any media file. Which makes it an ideal replacement for your ipod. The omega wheel in this is real cool. - This phone after modding a custom firmware also supports installing some pretty cool mgx applications. Basically linux applications. If you are in to games, this phone opens up a lot of options for you. - The phone has a good and active support community All in all I am satisfied with the phone.

The features are really good on this phone and the quality of the music is awesome but after a while (I've had mine for almost a year now) the keypad malfunctions so I can't use certain numbers(# sign and a few others). Also the battery life isn't too good and its come to the point where I have to charge it every day. The signal tends to drop alot too compared to other models. Without those setbacks this phone would be top rate, but otherwise, its an ok phone.

Hi Phherr, you could find the official firmware in Motorola's website. It can be downloaded in zip format. However, it would be advisable to modify your E8 if you're ready for it rather than staying with the stock firmware..

The MOTOROKR E8 is, hands down, the best phone I've ever had. The music quality is awesome, clear and powerful and when it comes to actually talking on the phone or on the stock hands-free the quality is unimaginable. It does however have it's downs, basically it has only one thing the is not that "fun" with it: the fact that with the stock firmware, after putting a couple of songs, taking a couple of pictures and storing some emails, it does become slow. However I got past that because I just modded my E8 with the latest Z-Mod modded firmware, the Z- Mod 2.4.5 courtesy of Zorge.R, and now it's a monster. Only after modding it you can unlock it's full potential. So go ahead, buy an E8 and happy modding !!! :)

Please guys don't give such false reviews. I read about E8 on this site and desided to buy this handsome mobile piece. but it seems all the reviews are misguiding. E8 is the worst mobile phn. i biought it some 6 months ago and its really S**ks Bad camera, very slow hangs and by the way who liked the music on this phn. sound is not so good and it not at all looks as music phn (sry it only looks but it doesnt work) bad experience and i just started hating MOTOROLA.

I've had this phone for 2 years, at first I was happy, and now I'm happier after modding the phone. It's been modded for almost 3 months now and the performance has improved a lot.. Nothing beats this phone, unless another shape shifting keypad rokr comes out, hopefully in 3g next time or a camera adapted to lighting conditions..

I've always been loyal to Motorola mobile phones that's why when the E8 came out there was really no other choice. But after a year of using the phone I'm just about ready to trade it in for anything else. The time it takes to navigate to another function is extremely slow and I've been having problems with previous SMS getting mixed within new messages that I have to ask the sender to resend the msg. I'm not sure if this is a firmware issue. The phone really looked sleek and flashy but the good stuff ends there.

Ryo, I have a couple of additional themes, created myself. Themes like the original ONYX (modified), LOUD RING, SOFT RING and SLEEPING SOFT were created myself for selection at different timing usage. Example, at noisy places, I'll choose LOUD RING and SLEEPING SOFT theme to be used during bedtime so that incoming calls and messages are really soft, enough to alert me but would not disturb my wife!! Since themes are basically focused on sound and picture, I've picked different ringtones and pictures for different themes. If you need more choices of pictures beside your own, search in the internet for Motorola E8 wallpaper and they should come in 240 x 320 size. Just go to phone setting, themes, option, create theme and name your new theme title. Have your pictures and ringtones selected first to speed up your preferred theme. Be careful on wallpaper selection as some colourful ones will drain your battery faster as compared to a picture with more black colour in it.

I have been using this E8 for more than a year now, overall I'm still happy with it. Wanted to buy another unit to keep as spare, in case, for parts or standby unit. I know some guys might think it's not a good move but for me, yeah I mean for me, I liked the E8 for its thin, solid factor and its Crystal Talk - so far I can't find any other that can fit into my personal requirement. It did "hang" on me a couple of times but I'm used to accepting it as part & parcel of any phones these days. It's also a little slow sometimes and I'm in no rush either. I think moderation (in terms of expectations) is the key word here. The factors that I use to choose a suitable phone are: - It must have Crystaltalk or any kind of background noise cancelling design, - Slim, around 10mm, pocket friendly; - Must be a bar or slide design; - Linux, Symbian, or Windows Mobile OS - Solid design with metal casing; - Reasonably good battery standby What I demand of a mobile phone as stated above only meant for my own requirement and I don't expect everybody to agree with me. It's just individual taste. Until today, I still like the way E8 is, unfortunately there's no more new ones available in my country where I live.

MP3 playback quality is awesome, better than sony walkman - no need to mention apple devices here. Quite easy to use. Two grips tough. When listening music, can't turn-off the scroll wheel : the slightest touch and the player goes forward or backward. U had to lock the buttons but what's the point having to go lock-unlock every time I want to change tunes. Second, the miniSD card can't be removed-pushed in unless the battery is removed.

But something i want to say is, if you are like to capture picture using phone, for e8 its totally suck! screen too small, and working slow. Anyway, the design and music was good. I dont know why users give such a bad review. First this is a music phone so camera does not come into picture. 2nd it has linux os and so the response timing does not come into picture. If so has anyone noticied it has a task manager built into it. If you ask me this is the best phone in the series with competitiors. GPRS is excellant. So if you go with it you will never regret it.

Hello Everyone. I have used this phone well over year and a half and I have noticed some serious flaws in this Phone. It has very slow response. Even though Memory is almost empty. No vibrate and ring. Problem with the contact storing. Once you save a contact (in fact a phone number), a normal phone will show you the name you saved even if you haven't stored the number with country code, But this phone doesn't. I mean you have to store a number twice if you want contact name to be displayed when you receive a phone call and when you receive an SMS. Has a problem with hanging. But 2 MP camera and design are satisfactory. Still I wouldn't suggest some to buy this phone. Thank You.

Dont buy this mobile... I have bought it for 13,0000Rs and now its cost around 5400Rs only... This handset has some serious flaws that the Motorola people itself not providing any support or fix. I have used this Rokr E8 for an year and half... Its bit sluggish and now it turned into disaster.... This mobile has started behaving pretty weird... Switch on problem... Screen flickering... etc... Totally waste :-(

hay, not so bad.... wanted to switch off vibration just go to settings and profile and switched it to normal mode. It will work.... and if u r finding slow menuvarable then refresh it ones in a while in 6 months.. to refresh 1) go to settings 2)phone setting 3)reset 4)reset all settings... it will get refresh.. try on

Hi, I am not against thos phone.. I am using this phn ,,,so far this is the worse ph I have ever had...camera is 2mp but it seems to be a vga camera...pphn is slow...I like the external look and all..but this phone really sucks and not worth for what i paid.. POINTS TO REMEMBER- Camera is poor though its a music phone but the sound quality sucks .. phn becms numb when when u are getting sms mms or any call... overall 4out10 . . GOOD POINTS -very hard phn..du can drop it anywhere.. -very stylish and elegent looks -navigation changes according to the functions,,,example...while in a music player ,mode you wont be able to see the numbers...and while on a camera mode ,,,the navigation is altogether different.. thats it. Hey guys! I've had this phone for about 2 years now and I must say, this phone is really strongly made and very useful although its specifications are very simple. If you took the touch courser out. it will just be an ordinary phone. The camera feels like 1.3 mp under normal conditions but under great conditions such as lighting, then it can be as good as 3 mp. The music quality is excellent once you use the right earphones/headphones. although the speakers are not that loud. I suggest this phone to those who want a music phone, and don't want an iPod, and those who change their minds easily because once you get this phone for too long, you're going to get tired with it. It's not the most user friendly phone. The battery life is longer than I expected but grows shorter each year. My over-all score for this phone is a 7/10 because of the good yet bad qualities it has : )

If you're thinking of buying this...Don't. the lifespan on this phone is horrible. i bought it a year ago, and it already is malfunctioning to the point of no return. freezes up when someone calls you, so you can never answer. you can only call them. 4 word text message can freeze up anywhere from 30 seconds to a full minute making your 4 word text message require a good minute to type out. the music quality is still great, but thats all i can say about this unreliable phone.

i bought this phone. it looks good and works fast. but while playing music it slows down a bit. java applications take minimum 10 secs to be opened. it is a stylish phone. the screen should be a little bit big but its ok and the display of the phone could be much better. motorola should release a software upgrade to resolve all the problems in this phone and the new software must be light and fast with better display and music menu should be enhanced like the album art should be displayed bigger, the soung is very clear on speaker as well as earphones but should be more loud and more bass should be there on the headphones as it is very hard to hear it on earphones in noisy places. i hope that motorola will release a new software soon.

I hate this phone. I bought it around 2 months ago and i am regretting for buying it now. Minus points: *The phone is so slow. *Doesn't Support vibrate and ring. *Doesn't support 3d games(actually supports but lags like hell). *Bluetooth is complicated and transfer speed is slow. *When you want to watch videos, every now and then it keeps saying "refreshing your media list" and makes you wait for around 3-4 minutes. *Supports no themes(unless you mod it). *Camera is worse even in good lighting conditions.(Don't ask how it performs in dark) *Earphones are very low in volume. You can't hear songs if you are in a loud place like trains or buses. *Most of the applications, do not support this phone like Yahoo go!, Ebuddy, Nimbuzz, Opera mini(You have to search hard on the internet to find their supported versions. Plus points: *Sleek and trendy, looks cool. *Mode shift technology is awesome. *Touch wheel makes it so stylish. *The wide screen display makes it different. *While talking, it gives crystal clear sound. *During music playing, even though its low in sound, its pretty clear. *3.5mm jack allows it to connect to your home theatre. *Internal memory of 2GB is great. *The phone's inbuilt browser is very good. Speed is fine and the webpages appear as on a pc. Overall, i won't recommend this phone. Its not worth the money you are spending. Try some other phone.

I've use this phone just for a week and i seriously saying that this phone is rubbish. slow slow slow OS. the phone cant set vibrate and ring. meaning, if ur in the mall, u wont notice ur phone is actually ringing coz you cant set it vibrate and ring. unless u set it vibrate then ring. but its not cool. screen is small. okay, not all bout this phone is bad. the good bout this phone are it got crystal talk, u can clearly hear caller's voice even ur in a loud place, elegance look, good speaker. overall, please dont buy this phone. find another phone worth your money.

I got this phone last week. Even though it is released in 2007, features are far better than 2009 models. Mode shift technology is really gives a bright look to the phone. I went made about this phone after seeing it in the movie Delhi 6. But guys! Handle this phone very carefully. Regular polish makes this phone look like luxuries for years. Eventhough camera clarity is not so great, tiny camera on the backside gives corporate look for this phone. Music is not loud but its crystal clear. Phone worths your money. And 2GB internal memory is another + point with that contact list management with photo and schedule management with photo is too good in this phone. Perfect for the people who are in middle of high end professional life and music loving... As it looks luxuries and even features are also luxuries. Display is soo clear that we can't compare its display with any other brand like NO-KIA.

If i ignore the odd placement of menu items (for instance, MotoMusic features twice, under 'MotoMusic', and under 'Multimedia'!), and the general lack of thoroughness in the organisation of it's menu items, i find that it's a very intuitive handset for use during calls, and messaging. Bizarrely the max number of entries on the sim is either 200 or 220. Looking at phone settings / View memory / sim, it shows the total capacity as 220. But then looking at Contacts / options / setup / capacity, it shows a max of 200. On my E8 I set the phone to store contacts both on the sim and in the phone.

I use an 8 Gb microsd card, so total memory is 10 Gb. Fantastic music phone, I use it with sony bluetooth stereo h/set. Super solid construction - it just doesn't flex or creak - it feels like it is hewn from a solid block, despite being only 1cm thick. The "force feedback" on the keys is amazing, as is the way the key display changes for phone/camera/music player. Only gripe is keyboard lock/power button is fiddly when using for key lock. Not a great camera (no flash) but adequate for the job. Who needs an iPlayer !?

Then,you have a serious problem with your ears. This phone is the best music phone in the market that I've tested. I own a cellphone shop. Nokia Xpress Music Series are loud but the music quality is bad. Motorola Rokr lineups sound not too loud but the quality is awesome. This phone can save more than 3000 messages. I think it's unlimited. But I'm not sure as I haven't tested it yet.

Had it for a year. Ringer stopped working. I flashed it with new non OEM firmware. Works great now. Wish it had wifi. awesome phone. Wrote longer post before, but this site broke it.

Operates slowly, unless... I used this phone for almost a year and then it started moving all laggy and slow. It drove me crazy. I gave up when the ringer stopped working. Calls would come in freeze the phone, and it wouldn't ring, but just froze. I got a new phone. In the mean time I started searching for firmware fixes. I flashed new firmware (not OEM) to the device and it works better than new. The new firmware allows me to set the processor speed. No lag and the ringer works 100%. The only bad thing about this phone now is that it still doesn't have wifi. Other than that, it's a great phone.

the phone really good amazing voice quality it some tome take second or little after you select the a sound to listen and to open menu or options but it's not regular. it scrool through tracks with amazing speed it run pretty well for me the scrool wheel may take a little while for some people but the keypad is extremly responsive especially in sending message with prediction on, I from Trinidad in the caribbean

Zidane the phone default usb setting is sync change to memory even if the phone don't have an memory card it will appear in the setting connection then usb settings you only see music files with sync settings. it will appear as a removable disk in my computer just copying and paste it in the misic folder it simple.

The motorola rokr e8 it is a great music phone with crystal talk browsing music is great with a very responsive keypad and the sensor is amazing and it is can go head to head with some nokia express music and sony walk man great price. i have nothing to say bad about it. For people find the phone is faulty beacause of the keypad it's great it may take time to get accustom the phone is straight to the point no complicated menu. or because it you find it lacking something by a more expensive phone i pay 900 tt which is about 150us it definately woth more than the price

It's called MGS, But you won't find them everywhere, i recomend you to check modmymoto because some models don't support MGS and you can only install themes with folders filled with files, but it's really simple tho

I can't stand this phone. It's a pretty looking and completely worthless endeavor to want to use as anything more than a paperweight. I've wanted to pitch at a wall no less than twenty times in the two months that I've been using it. It's slow. it gets bogged down and fails to respond to even basic functions in a timely manner or worse. It just sits and looks pretty and stupid like it did when I attempted to shoot a few pictures with it. It's also just mind suckingly annoying to know that even though I can cram a 2gb card in it on top of however much memory it contains internally. It has all the reliability and grace of a dial up connection when push comes to shove in its userability. I'm switching back to my phone that is over four years old because I know that it works.

Hi, got this phone like 2 months ago. Use to crave about it a lot. Itsa good fone genrelly and i hope the next model would be better. bU HE PHONE HAS DRW BACKS. 1. Scratchs and the paint fades like easy, In 2 months it looks really dirty. Or you can wear cotton gloves to use it. but that would be lame. 2. The phone is delicate, so really have to take care of it. 3. The biggest issue with the phone is the speed, it simply suxx, I thought that Unix OS is suppose to be fast but no. Even when you turn the fone on, the Motorola logo takes like 10 seconds to jus shine once. And if you are playing music and trying to message or do something else, forget it. It sometimes displays the menues after 40 seconds of pressing the key. 4. No themes MAN, not customizable at all. 5. The music is good but not all people say it is. I think walkman pphones are good when it comes to music. 6. and finally, i bought it 2 months back, and today i cant even sell it for 70 percent of its price. peole just offer around half of how much i bought it for. Result.... The phone looks good in hand and quie hip...... but when it comes to really using it, it aint worth the price.

Well for themes, check at ModMyMoto, ask there, they will answer, i'm sure. Camera options, some firmwares don't have the option, so you'll have to flash and then install a MGX, or flash a firmware with that option

Your charging problem is strange enough. There's a possibility that the tiny pin connectors inside the microUSB charger have been damaged or spoilt. If your USB to microUSB charger works, then that could possibly be the culprit. I would suggest trying another wall charger just to make sure. I've been using my E8 for about 9 months now and I've come to realised that this is THE phone for me. Besides this E8, I have another Windows based PDA phone that runs on 500Mhz Turbo processor. I now value this tougher, thinner phone with good reception and sound quality. Yes, sometimes it lag a little but that's the little giveaway for the other plus factors. Since it's a music phone, many people would utilize it's music and radio feature more frequently therefore battery consumption will not last that long, for me the battery life is reasonably acceptable - 970Mah for such a thin phone.

pls make sure that your video/audio bitrate is matched w/ your fone, also the frame per second (FPR) should not exceed 25fps. you can find on your user manual the video capabilities of your fone.

yeah i'm having this problem too. whenever it shows up, i either have to insert my memory card or erase all the messages. my phone used to be able to save like 7 thousand messages, but now 400 messages is pretty much its limit. wonder why eh?

my e8 is a bit strange. it won't charge with its usual charger. i bought another one but it still won't charge. since then i had to charge it using the data cable, connected to my laptop. idk if the problem's in the charger, or in the phone's battery. btw the chargers are original. besides that, the phone is awesome. but i must say the 2 mp camera looks more like a vga.

Yes i do agree with many of u that r complaining about the battery life. It's not one the best out there that's for sure but u can't have everything. Hey buddy, I'm in constant touch with E8 community, and E8 has great signal reception. Low signal might be a area specific or piece specific issue, other than that, i've never experienced any call drop or missed text. I've used it with 3 carriers, one of them was really weak in my area. E8 has performed better than my old nokia with all of them.

To be honest the phone has many good features such as its design and music, but I don't recommend this mobile because it has problems such as bad connection with the network (Antenna), not for office use, and its software will start to be slow in the future, and its camera is very bad. I tried waptrick and games are downloading fine (downloading one now) they are in proper format (jad and jar). Are you unable to download, or unable to install or unable to play? Remember that because of landscape resolution and key codes (which are different for all phones) not much games are compatible with E8. You will be able to install them, but you wont be able to run them properly. Their resolution will differ or keys wont work. Hope it helps.

Although being the same size, w580's portrait screen looks a little smallish, while E8's screen looks a lot more natural and easy on eyes.

Ok E8 first thing to not is that E8 has a landscape screen. The screen quality is one of the best with great contrast and superb brightness. About screen size, E8 has been well optimized to make use of its landscape screen. Most important is that E8 screen is a lot more natural on eyes. Watching videos is good, browsing web is good, reading MSGs is great. In list-like menus (e.g. phonebook) you get 6 lines displayed which is enough. However dont expect to view thumbnails properly, it shows 1.5 lines in big thumbnail view and 3 lines in small thumbnail view.

1. Okey i'll say the speaker is loud enough for a single speaker setup, but not as loud as those stereo speakers in NOKIAs. E8 vibration is good and i dont think theres any chance to miss calls. However, E8 cant "Vibrate AND Ring" at the same time like other sets, it can however "Vibrate THEN Ring" 2. Hummm well it depends a lot on your carrier and signal. I'll say even with best carrier and light use, dont expect E8 to run over 2 days. However with a good carrier and heavy use, E8 can stretch over 1 day. Weak carrier is a totally different story. One of my connection's signal is so weak that you hardly get 1-2 bars inside office, with such a signal, E8 dies in 12-16 hrs with light use which is a shock. But with my other connection which has 4-5 bars, things are back to nornaml. 3. Yes you can save SMS to computer, do it with Motorola Phone Tools (the CD which comes bundled) 4. Ppl are storing around 3000 sms without any problems MY TAKE : E8 is a novelty music phone. If you can live with a few things, the deal is really worth it.

Sad, but its true, however it only applies to custom mods. So if you update your phone with official update service, you will not be able to install custom firmwares in your phone, but you can still install any future official updates from Motorola. Though this site discourages modding discussions, thanks to shobhit for bringing up this topic. Check MMUS dot US for more on this. I think that latest official firmware is great in every way and a normal user wont need to custom mod his phone anyway. Not to mention that custom mod can void warranty and can brick the phone permanently. Though opinions might differ. Check the site for more info.

You can download and install latest firmware for your phone for motorola's site. Its 100% legal, official and contain no viruses. I updated my E8 a few days back and the new firmware really seem to speedup my E8. Do it as follows. Hello. I bought my E8 November last year and I've sold it recently for 10k and I bought myself an LG Cookie. It's a really cool phone[a sure head-turner] and it does the job.. but that's quite it. Aside from the morphing keypad, this phone is frankly just plain boring for me. It's also quite slow and the scrolling wheel is unresponsive often. Hey Vipin. Build quality of E8 is very good. Very solid construction, feels like a single block, no flex at all. It survives falls very well. Keys last much longer than they look. I've seen game testers in my company playing round with E8 ruthlessly, but it survives all drills. However, there are 2 issues. Though front panel is scratch resistant, you need to take care protecting it from sharp objects like keys in your pocket. Secondly the rubber coating on the back might peel off by sharp objects.

Upto 16GB has ben verified on E8 and there is no reason it cant go upto 32GB. To add games, download the ".jar" file of the java game you wish to install, place it in your phone memory or memory card, browse it using your phone's file manager and click it.

Hey Nishant Yes, you can install java games and apps on E8, but its landscape resolution will be a problem. Dont expect to find much games for 320x240. Other than that, W302 is supposed to be a low end walkman offering, while E8 is top in its class. Tell us your cellphone usage and preferences and we will try to help you in your decision.

You can update your firmware yourself by using official motorola update service or get it updated at morotola service centers, the stores from where you buy sets does not update your firmware unless they are store cum service centers. Updating your firmware with an official firmware does not void warrenty and is highly suggested to keep your set running at its peak performance.

FYI Rokr E8 owners in the Philippines, a firmware update is already available for download. However you have to make sure that you're PC drivers and Service Packs are updated. I hope this helps you all out. :) p.s. core>> I'll give your suggestion a try. thanks for the tip.. :)

Hey Rye, 16GB card have been confirmed running fine on unlocked stock firmware, cant say about t-mobile or rogers. Modding is not needed to use 16GB, but you should keep your stock firmware updated using official motorola software update service. My personal take would be to wait for some time. A 16GB card is about 3 times the price of a 8GB card in my area and the main problem is that current 16GB cards are only class 2 while you can easily get class 4 or class 6 cards in 4GB or 8GB. Speed comes very handy in such high capacity cards. I would to for a good 8GB card and wait for 16GB to step up in terms of speed and fall in terms of price, you know a few month down the line and they will be available at 8GB prices ;-) But anyways if all you need is more space, then there is nothing better than a 16GB card. Tell us what do you think...

hey coreSOLO... i have a bit of a challenge for you... my ROKR is perfectly working with its "Media SYNC" the last time until i had reformatted my computer and installed another version of Windows XP SP2... now my PC doesn't recognize my phone anymore. it says Motorola MTP device but doesn't seem to have a correct driver. i have searched the web for possible solutions but i couldn't find one. as a hint, it may be caused by an imcompatibility of the OS or may be a different driver or if not there is no correct driver installed. but i have installed already my Motorola Phone Tools and installed its drivers also. now my problem is i can't seem to create playlists on my pc to my phone. although i can transfer mp3's and videos but i can't seem to create my favorite playlists with ease. here's my challenge for you coreSOLO. many thanks in advance and may God Bless You.

Yep Rachelle i love my E8 wayyyy tooo much :) Cookie is also a very nice set. Heres how cookie scores over E8 - Touchscreen - 3 inch screen great for videos - Great looking interface - Better camera than E8 - Far newer than E8 Cookie looses to E8 on audio quality and 3.5 mm jack. Though i've read in reviews that cookie's audio quality is relatively good and you can always use an adapter to conect your custom earphones to cookie. But being an audiophile, its the sound quality and looks of E8 that really turns me on :)

amazing facts to love ur E8: 1. Whole keypad is on one plate, we can click only one time on one key, BUT its lot more durable 2. U gcan give command for any application u want and it will open that for u 3. It has lock feature, now ur small brother will not try to play games in it, feel free to keep it anywhere in house. 4. Its a talking phone so now u have a partner to with when u r alone somewhere But, its ur decision, if u r gamer(not necessary) then u can try EM30, cause, its 123 keypad is only morph, so now for changing song its left and right selections during music play its easy to operate in EM30 and can also play games easily on EM30 scroll bar key. As u can notice E8has left and right key for changing songs are between selection keys andcall key, but in EM30 the left and right music keys r with play/pause keys.

i just got an E8 for my wife, and somehow, it dials numbers automatically, at odd times.. and picks up thenumber from the address book. even thought i have not programmed the speed dial.. Q2, I also have doubts of the life of the battery, it hardly stays for 2 days ..even though by hardly making 2 or 3 calls.. i feel there is some problem in the os or some configuration, can someone pl advise !!

Hey m@v3r!ck, selecting a phone can be a tough decision with all different options so far. But you are making right efforts so far fetching all the info. A few more recommendations for you... - if you want music phone with more emphasis on OS speed and good camera (i mean good camrea in 9k category) go for Sony Ericsson (w and k series under 9k) - if you want to emphasize on good application support, go for nokia 5320XM with Symbian Series 60 and awesome application support. 5310 has series 40 and hence less applications. - if you want mp3 player grade audio quality, great call quality and that "wow its different" looks, go for E8 Hope it helps :)

Hey m@v3r!ck, yes I am using E8 for 4 months now and worked for a mobile gaming firm so have been in touch with almost all the devices. Also, I have been in constant touch with E8 modding community. Ok back to your questions, i've heard 2 users having weak signal, their problem was corrected at service center. 1 user was having malfunctioning keys, it turned out to be because of a faulty headset. Apart from that, no hardware issues. I prefer E8 over EM30 because if its sexiness. Mine is still like new, I keep it in a soft pouch. Talking of speed, E8 interface speed is comparable to N73. Check out videos on youtube to compare yourself. However while playing music more resources are given to sound processing so interface can take 1-2 seconds to respond, but not any longer. Give me your priority features and budget and i'll try to suggest some other brands too.

themobilestore dot in = 8.6k univercell dot in = 9.6k you can also bargain at local dealers for more offers E8's interface speed is same as EM30. Though not as snappy as SE phones, they are not "slow" by any means and you can further fine tune them by modding. Build quality is same for E8 and EM30 and is "very solid" but being a full reflective panel, E8 is more prone to scratches. So EM30 will do better in this regard. 5310 does not hold any 'build quality' advantages or disadvantages over E8, so i'll leave it to you as a matter of looks. In sound quality, both 5310 and E8 are AWESOME! But let me try to highlight their sound signatures. 5130's volume is a little louder than E8. E8 is perfect for in-ear earphones, but can be a little low with over-the-ear headphones in noisy areas. On the other hand, E8's sound has more warmth and fidelity. In E8, you can pin point every instrument being played, it sounds crystal clear. Note that sound quality is same for E8 and EM30. I've posted some detailed reviews (actually opinions) over various aspects of E8 in previous posts, so dig in for them.

Hey Rachelle, a good and a bad news. The bad news is that E8 has been discontinued. The good news is that because of this, lots of sellers are clearing their E8s at very cheap prices. For example in India, you can now get an E8 at 8.5k (earlier it was 12.5k). So dig a little at your local stores and you might come lucky :)

There are only 3 things which differentiate E8 from EM30. - E8 has 2 GB builtin memory - E8 has omega scroll wheel which helps you to scroll through long playlists - Looks Apart from this EM30 is exactly same as E8 including features, OS, sound quality, build quality and everything else. Only EM30 is about 30% cheaper than E8, but in last few weeks, price of E8 has come down drastically, atleast in my region. How does all this sum up for you? Well its like this. But if you wanna save some money, go for EM30 and you wont feel sacrificed in any way.

Hey buddy, though service center guys should be able to help you accurately in this manner, there are a few thing you can try on your own. - try to check your card with some other cell, your cell with some other card and try your card on a PC / lappy using card reader - do a master reset on your cell, just make sure to backup your data - try to reformat your card, but do it in come other cell. reformatting a memory card on PC might not be a good idea, i guess - connect your cell to your PC and update its firmware using sony ericsson's update service or visit a service center to cut all the crap :)

I tried to run some forum threads on exactly the same topic. The outcome was that a near full 8GB card does not slow normal functions of E8. There is no noticeable time gap between tracks when playing music. However when you restart phone or open music player for the first time, refreshing music library might take minutes. As a workaround, some members have suggested to sync music using WMP as it creates a music database file on cell and hence refreshing should be faster. Secondly, low speed cards (like class 2) should be avoided for high capacities like 8gb onwards.

Yep there are a number of silicon cases and screen protectors specifically designed for E8. Their availability might depend on your region. Do this - goto ebay uk, search for "E8" (dont place rmoto or rokr there) you will see categories on left hand bar for E8 cases and it will present you with all sort of cases and protectors. select a case of your choice and then try to search it in your region.

Although this is a personal preference, being a heavy texter, I like the keypad A LOT. First the bad points. As there are no physical buttons, locating the keys needs learning. Given the width of the cell, you might also not reach full speed using one hand. Now the good news. - As you might already know, keys are pressure-sensitive, not touch sensitive, so there is no chance of accidental touches - Travel of keys is very good for fast texting. You can press and repress keys without much efforts - Key responsiveness is nice. No delays at all - iTap just rocks. It makes texting so easy and fast by predicting 10-75% of what you want to type - Personally I type using both hands and I am typing much better than any of my last phones - Being a former mobile game programmer, i've seen some heavy testing on E8's keypad without any problems and you know game testers can be real pain for any mobile ;) Hope it helps!

There are a handful of applications which comes built-in and then you can always extend the functionality using JAVA apps. There is an email client, basic IM, world clock, calc, tasks, and other standard ones built-in. Native linux apps are not officially supported, though you can install some cool native apps on E8 after modding. But if you are looking for some serious 'usable' applications, JAVA is the way to go. Check out getjar dot com. You might have to consider E8's landscape resolution though.

Well it depends on your region and usage. I am high (and I mean really high) on texting, calling and music, i need to charge it daily. Moderate texting, calling and lil music will leave you with 1.5 - 2 days of batt. E8's battery is no winner, but at the same time, its not too shobby provided that its a multimedia phone.

Hello dan, looks like a windows issue, make sure your OS and drivers are updated, including the phone drivers. Try starting MPT with and without connecting the phone once. I believe you can get more help on motorola support site. Check their forums and knowledgebase for similar issues. Good Luck!

are you serious, the phones you mention are the cheap end of Sony and Nokia, if you want a good all round phone thats been out a while now then the nokia N81 has the internal memory (not the inbuilt memory card that slows the phone down when it fills up)and the processors and the graphics chip and its series 60 and its of sturdy build and has a very good camera with a Zennon flash that the newer models are without or the latest model of Samsung Innov8 i8510 which has all the quality of the Nokia N81 andis series 60 but adds more to it with the camera and internal memory amongst other stuff, both are also good for sat nav and gaming.

Ok so pulling from your first post, you need good audio, good battery life, easy msging, image editing, speech recogs. > A lil about manufactures and OSs: While MOTOROLA has provided some of the most creative models, it has been behind rest of industry in proviting bleeding edge features. SONY-E has one of the smartest and fastest OS in market but you are unable to install native apps. Nokia OS (S60) is the big daddy of customization but all their cells are not best in build quality. > OK i am picking sets from your list only So if you can live with stock hardware and software features, the best one is **K810i** because of its awesome features and great build quality. Just check the keypad once. I believe the spaced keys should be easier in msging, but go for K800 if you dont like those small spaced keys. They are same otherwise. On the other hand, if you want to be adventourous and want to fine tune every aspect of your cell, go for **5320XM** because of almighty S60 platform. You can get an app for almost everything you can expect from your set. If you can compromise a little on camera for awesome build quality and awesome keypad, go for E51, except camera and keypad, they are almost similar. Hope it helps :)

- E8 is not one of the fastest phones, but its by no means slow. Menu is not as fast as SONY phones, but comparable to some of the fast SYMBIAN phones. Check out E8 videos at youtube. - E8 supports 3gp, mp4, real and wmv video (havent tried AVI files) You can get full details at E8 manual downloadable from E8 support site. Max video bitrate is 250-320 kbps, but videos can be tweaked to use bitrates over 320. - Housing is VERY SOLID, very well built. Front glossy panel can resist small scratches, but not strong ones. Back rubber-like plastic can wear off but only after long use. Still, take care while keeping it in pocket, keep it in a light pouch or something to leep your E8 looking like new :)

To start with, check out LG Cookie, HTC Touch and ROKR E6. Meets most of your requirements. 200 euros might be a limiting factor here, you will have to make some compromises, decide which features you want most. If you can compromise on touchscreen, you can get some nice stuff. For Image editing, you can find some cool Symbian apps if you opt for a S60 set or try to get a JAVA application otherwise. Tell us what do you come up with.

hey keep asking as many questions as you like :) simple answer first... yes you can install java apps on beat. java apps can be installed on almost any set except a few low end ones. now time for a more complex answer... dont go for samsung BEATs, their sound quality and fidelity is not good, check it out here . There are a few good sets in E8's price range which might interest you keeping music, vids and cam in mind : - LG cookie KP500 : good audio, big screen for videos, good cam, really cheap for a touchscreen phone, but no 3.5 mm jack - Nokia N81 : good audio, big screen, better cam than E8, great support for symbian applications - and finally E8 : awesome sound, great call quality, easy msging, 2GB builtin mem + upto 16 GB card tested and working, nicely built, but screen is small for vids and cam is poor (sorry to say). if you wanna save money and can sacrifice a bit on looks, EM30 is there with same audio engine as E8 and much cheaper. well, i selected E8 as i'm an audiophile. i've found E8 to be the sexiest phone around and i dont bother about other things. thing might be different for you or same, i dont know. better do some research before finalizing on any cell, sorry if i've confused you :P ask us if you wanna know anything else, we're always on the lookout to help :)

Yes, you can install java (j2me) applications on E8 like on any other mobile. You can find a number of useful applications on getjar dot com. Download the jad and jar files, place them on your memory card, browse them from your phone's file manager and select the option to install. While downloading, make sure that application's resolution matches your mobile. As a matter of fact, a lots of good applications come with flexible screen size which fits on all screens. Hey Buddy, sorry bout your E8. Your best bet would be to go to a service center, however there are a few more options if you like being adventurous ;) 1. Make sure your battery is not deep discharged, check your batt in some other E8. I've seen a few cases where E8 batts got deep discharged, and phone cant recharge the baty from such a low level. As a result, you can neither switch on the phone nor charge the battery. 2. If there was an update error, get your original (stock) firmware from any of the modding site, get the necessary third party tools and reflash your firmware to original one. Once you are back to your old factory firmware, you can then retry updating using motorola updates. If you opt option 2, be sure to download only a stock firmware and not a modded one. Also match your firmware and bootloader version. About half the times, the third party flashing tools used can update your firmware even if your cell is not starting at all, so you might have a luck here. But remember that this might void your warranty. Personally, I'd suggest you to visit a service center to cut all the crap :)

Hi, I tried using Motorola's Software Update since it says that it will keep the performance of the phone at it's best. Now my phone is dead, not functioning, everytime I turn it on, it just flashes white screen for about 3 seconds then it turns off, then it flashes white screen again, then turns off again, and so on until I remove the battery. I tried the bootloader ("#" + "*" + "power on") then used the Motorola's Software Update again. The software updater does recognized that an error occurred while updating my phone but it doesn't recognize my phone's infos like IMEI, which I believe is the reason why it always fail to update. PS, the first time I used the software updater, my phone's IMEI and other infos are recognized. Anyone with the same experience? Anyone knows a solution for this aside from taking the phone to the service center. Thank you in advanced.

You're welcome,since you mentioned it's an Australian model, I believe then you're probably from Australia too. I understand that Australia has a top rated bluetooth headset brand called BlueAnt, their Z9i and V1 are highly rated to be among the best in the world right now. Cheers Stuart, your help is much appreciated. I bought my ROKR E8 5 days ago and am very impressed at the qaulity of phone. Im particularly impressed at its quality in relation to its price. Ive adjusted to the key pad and am not disapointed at the slight delay. Ive had no problems synchronizing the phone to PC and obtaining my contacts, all sorted with no fuss. Given its an australian model i anticipate the problems experienced in the US and UK should not be a factor. Thanks again Stuart.

i FOUND the solution: I flashed my phone and then it looked like i had way too many songs on my phone memory, i think over 100. i deleted 70 of them and phone suddenly "recognized" the remaining tracks and plays all of them and no more "refreshing your list" lagging. The only issue left is the battery life. i'm purchasing another motorola battery. hope it would fix my problem.

walksy, I was also a previous V8 user and currently using E8. If you've been using V8, I'm sure you already knew the procedures involved concerning the contacts and music transfer between V8 and your PC via Motorola Phone Tool. It's exactly the same for E8 since E8's utilizing the same Linux OS like V8, difference is E8 has different version. (Doesn't really matter on the version, technically, they both operate about the same). Even with the interface difference on E8 with Fastscroll wheel, the operation is very user friendly, you don't need the manual for that. I really like the E8 but still missed some advantages of V8, guess nothing's perfect after all. For me, the V8's signal reception and voice quality are better than E8 eventhough E8's are already good for me. 100 Moto has the same opinion too, maybe due to the flip design of V8. Other than that, E8 would have the upper hand on memory card slot, morphing keypad and fastscroll wheel. Even though both phones are using Linux OS, you'll find V8's smoother and faster in terms of key-pressing-to-screen-response time, even though the difference could be in mili-seconds and it's occasional and not all the time. If you're so used to the speed the way V8 responded, like me intially, you'll expect E8 to behave the same, so you need to manage your own expectation on this aspect prior to buying E8. For me this is not an issue. The "occasional lag" is possibly due to the Morphing keypad, fastscroll wheel or maybe the full haptics keypad that added more loads to the same 500Mhz processor that both phones are using. Another info that you might need to be aware of is that some American E8 users have been facing problem with E8, particularly E8 that are from T-xxxile (hope you could figure the "x"s up). I truly believe the problems they faced are not phone based but more on modifications performed on the phone. There you have it, good luck to your new E8.

True. You may visit modification (mod) sites to fully unleash the E8's true capability, although one of the risks is your warranty may be void. Nonetheless, it's worth a shot. The world clock can be found in Office Tools > World Clock. It has 3 time zones, the first being your default time, and 2 additional time zones. And yes, no autofocus.

I have the same problem before, I send my unit to service center, and after a week, I have my phone back, its working fine right now. I think they just upgraded the firmware, because, when I got my phone, all my messages and phonebook are gone. In my observation, try to delete messages, it may affect the performance of the phone, once you have lots of messages in the inbox. hope this help.

I found the ROKR E8 to be quite a disappointment. I found myself pressing the un-intended button on the touch screen often. The call quality was nice and it looks appealing but it was definitely not the phone for me. I did not try out the music player too much but I already know it has a decent mp3 capabilities. The 2GB memory should be enough to hold you off as well but I don't use cell phones for music players, plus the camera was terrible. Even in my room with all my lights on the quality was lacking. I'm going to pick up the curve 8900 bite the bullet and buy it outright.

My e8 works fine until recently when someone is trying to call me and it does not register on my phone at all! i've tried using another phone to call my e8 nearby and after so many rings (until it registered not available) it still does not register at all. weird part is when the caller puts down the call it beeps once and registers as a missed call. this is so frustrating hope someone could help me out. i'm now thinking of having it checked but im also trying to observe whether my settings were just messed up. ='(

ummm i dont really get what do you mean by restore, do you mean a master reset? I hope you know this, but let me restate just in case... In modding you will have to reflash your phone with a modified firmware, its just like reinstalling Windows on your computer. However when it comes to cellphones, modding should be done with utmost care. Modders do not keep phone settings in modified firmwares to make them generic, so you will have to reenter those settings manually after installing new firmware. Once you install a modified firmware on your cell, normally you can not go back to your previous (factory) firmware and settings even if you do a master reset of your phone. So before modding, just know what you are doing, read the features and reviews of the modified firmware and take help from the modding community. On GSMArena, we can not help you much with modding, better check out MMUS dot US forums, its the best modding community for E8. But your generic questions and views are more than welcome here. Good luck :)

You dont need to delete your settings and data for a mod to work properly. When you install a mod, it automatically deletes your previous settings and data. So no matter you delete your settings and data before installing a mod or not, the mod will itself do it for you. But you will have to backup your data and settings so that you can reconfigure your phone after a mod is installed. Apart from backing up files on phone, phonebook and messages, do remember to note down your SMS, MMS, GPRS and network settings. Detail backup guides are available on modding forums. I suggest "mmus dot us".

Hello Pax, With regards to the "message sending" shown while messaging, mine only appears when I MMS or SMS to too many people at one go. I would say overall, it rarely happens and probably network dependent instead of the phone's internal matter. In my country, some phone network providers are not very efficient as compare to others, during peak periods, the less efficient ones take longer time interval before their subscribers could receive messages.

I think your issue is more of a network problem. What happened to me twice was other messages came in mixed with another message. But it never happened again so I think it's all about the network. :)

Yes, you can turn the shutter sound off. In camera mode, choose settings - camera settings - picture settings - shutter tone and switch it to off. I've had a Motorola C650, and yeah, I was able to turn the sound off too.

Hi guys, missed the posts for some time. Regarding all the problems in E8, you will be surprised to know that most of them corresponds to the T-Mobile versions of E8. T-Mobile has done an terrific job of messing up an otherwise awesome set. In modding community, a lot of T-Mobile users have reflashed their sets with unbranded stock (unmodded) firmwares or switched to an unbranded E8. Its really sad that such a nice set has been misinterpreted due to third party issues including bad firmwares and expired contracts. The real E8 luxury can be well experienced with a stock E8.

i got this phone . i am not that happy. i had problem with battery. also phone freezes. i think something wrong with operating system or phone phone itself is no good. it is very hard to deal with t-mobile. actually fighting with them is not not enough. my suggestion is, stay away from this phone. it has a good reception but only when it works. so, go figure it.

I'm back with a modded out e8! and I must say, I am extremely happy with it. With the latest mod, skimming through menus are faster, I can lock more Applications, get skins, and there are more languages (meaning I was able to procure a U-Smiley from the Deutsch language) and SO MUCH MORE! I HIGHLY recommend modding your e8!

Unfortunately, no. Not until you modify (mod) your E8's software from some mod-sites. Until then, we'll just have to use whatever's the default skin for our phone.

Very good question. All microSD cards that have capacities of 4 GB and beyond are already labeled as SDHC cards, most likely meaning High Capacity. The E8 can support such cards (even 8 GB) even without the modding. A factory model E8 can read an 8 GB memory card already.

I've already mentioned in this forum thread that I've had my E8 for about 4 months now, and said that I haven't found any issues with it yet. Up till now, the battery life for me lasts for a day and a half, with MP3s playing for about an hour and a half (I'm serious) however, I recently discovered something regarding MMS, and it happened twice, ironically only within last week. I received a text message from a friend and in the middle of the message, it was cut-off and some weird message continues. Apparently, 2 messages were combined in 1 message showing the sender as whoever sent a message first. I'm not sure if this is a network issue or a phone issue. Nonetheless, E8 rocks! :)

Yes it does. You'll just have to get used to how small the screen looks, though, however with its 2GB internal memory (plus the other 2GB from my memory card) I've watched movies in this nifty little phone.

For those who loves music and SMS, I would recommend the new EM35, as with my own personal subjective experience, if music quality of E8 gets an A, EM35 can easily tops with A+ or A++. Then of course the keypad on EM35 is a bit more "normal" for most people. Ringtone / speaker of EM35 is way louder than E8 to the point even if I solely put EM35 on "loud only", the sound is so loud that it actually makes the phone vibrates.

I had a motorola about a couple of years ago and sold it within 4 months of purchase for its disastrous battery life. Then i recently bought Motorokr E8 in hope that they have worked on their known for battery problem, but was disappointing. the battery life is way below my expectation,but this is just the most minor problem with this model. You spend so much for this stylish and ur phn is not compatible to any themes/skins except for the default one. The sound quality is good on earphone(though no comparison to an ipod) but is too low in loudspeaker.Most of the time i can't hear my ring tone when i am on road or in shopping malls; moreover the sound quality deteriorates with passage of time. The key buttons are unique and makes you wonder its beauty at times.But if you are an sms loving person and finish most of your conversations over sms,then dont't even think about this phone because your figures will start paining after typing for some time. So my ultimate verdict about this phone is that if u sort of like music, want to have a stylish phone which will make other people stare again, but if u are fine with not much changes then u can definitely try out this one.

I've had this phone for 4months now, and I got it as a gift from the Philippines, and I've never had problems either. It only lagged twice while in my possesion. I was even too crazy enough to throw my phone against a wall (I was so angry) and it's as if nothing happened. No scratches on it up until now. So whatever issues it has with T-Mobile, it could be because of any breach of contract they have with Motorola. Same goes anywhere else. And so far, yes, I've been to the Motorola website and there are no news whatsoever of them discontinuing this magnificent music phone. As for the music artwork, I'm sorry, but I no longer have the answer to your question. Usually, what I do with my E8 is have it sync as memory card and drag-drop items in it.

I really like this phone. It has fantastic battery life, brilliant music player with an in built 3.5mm headphone jack, reasnoable camera and its easy to use. When i brought it, i hadn't read up about the phone beforehand so i really didnt know what to expect. At first, the keypad seemed very strange but after a while you get used to it and it turns out its a great keypad as it only displays the keys you need for a particular function. When i opened the box, i was annoyed that it didnt come with a memory card supplied, however, what i didnt know was that it has 2gb of memory internally which can be expanded which really pleased me. The only thing i dont like about the phone is the way it looks. It looks quite ugly, and from a distance, it looks like a motorola f3. However, that may be just my tastes, but overall, an excellent mobile phone.

Most likely, T-Mobile has meddled with the operating system of the E8 that it caused the phone to become unstable. Remember, most US phone carriers tend to modify a phone's software to cater their needs but it also causes the phone to have problems.

phone looks nice but it is not like it is advertised. i had it from t-mobile in U.S.A. battery does not live as web site says. it only lasts about a day. also phone locks itself up. you have to take the battery out and restart it. at most important time you wanna make a phone call, phone dies and take the battery out and restart it. but it has a good reception. i have been traveling all over the U.S. and reception is extra ordinary. but at this time the phone is not reliable. don't get stuck somewhere in middle of nowhere. motorola has to work out more.

Although I can't say whether what you've heard were accurate or not, even if it's true, keep in mind that in business world today, news can be "created" & "distributed" by competitors to damage other competing products. I know in my industry (which is not mobile phone), there are stuff like this happening when a competitor company comes out with an award winning product that keeps other companies envied, so this is part of business - to sell & make profits. This is however, my personal opinion, maybe it's not happening here but we can't rule out the possibilities. For me, reviews only takes up about 30 to 40% of my score, the rest, 60 to 70% of it will depends on my own judgement thru actual physical test on the product. So far my E8's performing according to its specs. I've encountered only one minor problem earlier but that has been put to rest after a warranty claim from the local authorised Moto Service centre. I'm really happy with E8's performance thus far and have decided to use it for some time before my next upgrade. From what I see, all phone brands could not have zero defects in production anyway, so for those encountering issues with E8, bring it back for warranty claim - there's 1 year protection to your benefit, make full use of it. I remembered that's exactly what happened to my bluetooth headset H12, the first one was bad, used it for about a week, the other side couldn't hear me well, brought it back for warranty claim, got it replaced with a brand new unit - it has been perfect since then.

Seems like T-mobile has made a big mess out of Moto's phones like E8 to force Moto stop offering E8 in US. E8 is still available where I live, and I have never heard the problems mentioned thru the Moto forums where I live. I had E8 for about 5 months and never encountered the problems mentioned as well. Only reason I sold it was "personally" I couldn't get used to the keypad. Now I'm practicing using the scroll wheel using my EM35.

What I've heard as of 1/10/2009 from a T-Mobile representative, Motorola is now DISCONTINUING the ROKR E8 due to numerous glitches and malfunctions like deleting songs, shutting down unexpectedly, having slow interface, etc. Does anyone know if this is official? In order for the music art to show, simply press up on the "D-pad" while your screen is on the music interface. It will only work as long as your music file has that little picture of the album art at the lower left side of the screen. Regarding your other question(about the tones), I think it's pretty vague.

Been using this phone couple of months and i find it really slow. Whenever there is an incoming SMS, you cannot move anything, it seems it hang up and calls cannot even come in and will turn out to be missed calls, esp if i have so many incoming SMS. i was really disappointed. think twice before buying.

You can zoom the pictures up to 200%. I don't know how big it is in pixels, but it's 200% of whatever size of the picture you're viewing.

Up to 200% of the image's actual size I believe. It uses progressive zooming, unlike other phones which have predefined zoom like 2x and 4x.

Yes, you can zoom the pictures while viewing them. Simply press the "+" sign on the keypad while viewing them, and it's actually cool doing so. *offtopic**So far my Moto Phone Tools still sucks. I'm still not sure if it's got something to do with my USB driver or the MPT itself. For more details re this, please refer to my post sometime December.

I've tried the highest settings possible on my E8 and the pictures are... "OK". If lower settings are selected, just expect the pictures to be less vibrant. My E8's adjustments were set to 1600 x 1200 for Resolution and Best under Quality. Somehow, I believe there're differences either in its hardware and software as compared to V8. You're right, with good lighting, the pics are OK for a 2MP. I'm not going into comparisons with other 2MP phone cameras as that's a completely different subject that requires alot of space and involve personal preferences too. Really, it's just a matter of how an individual expect the result to be, you know, the level of expectation. I used to be involved in photography, before digital camera set in and there were so many factors that could contribute to the end result of a picture, namely, the camera's analysis from its metering system, the contrast, colour depth depending on lens use, over compensations using ISOs, film use (those days) and so on that could affect that one picture that we are looking at. Different camera brands would have their own proprietary electronic circuit that supports and ultimately producing "their" best pics, for their own brand. That's why we all are reading different reviews on different camera phone brands that produce different results. Like Sony has Carl Zeiss lens, the recent Motorola ZN5 has Kodak, internal Nikon and unofficially Carl Zeiss lens too and so on. The results are different, from brightness, contrast, sharpness and colour. So for camera phone, obviously the dedicated digital cameras would have all the "ingredients" built-in that a camera phone would not have... yet, but I believe it's a matter of time they will catch up. For me, I always set my camera settings to the highest possible for both E8 and Digital camera as I would like to see slightly clearer pics when viewing them in my computer. However, I will still treat both camera phone and the digital camera with separate performance expectation level, this way, I won't be disappointed by the E8's result.

Fully agrees with your comment on E8's camera. In fact when I changed to E8 from V8, I thought the camera quality is going to be the same as both have 2MP camera. I was "OK" with V8's camera quality, accepted & understood that a 2MP phone camera can never match the quality of a 2MP dedicated digital camera so I don't really expect much from any 2MP phone camera. Instead, I used the E8 or V8's camera for taking pictures for work purposes, pictures on equipment defects, work reference site and so on to be emailed. For viewing in a computer, it's fine as long as it can help me to get the job done and I really like the fact that the resolution is really small allowing me to email more pictures in a single attachment. For really fine good quality pictures, I'll use my Canon Digital Camera so I believe it's a matter of balance, use the right tool for your requirement. As for me, I found my E8's camera "compliments" my Canon Digital camera well so I do need both. Judging from present technology, I don't see myself fully utilizing a single phone camera for all my purposes, even if it's a 8MP phone camera with Xenon flash yet. As with E8 and V8's camera, the V8 takes better pictures than E8 from my experience and comparisons on pictures taken in my collection. To be fair, the above showed my personal requirement on camera, I'm quite sure for many others there are various different conditions that require otherwise.

hi there.i bought a motorola rokr e8 just november15,08 and a sony ericsson cybershot k810i just july13,08 now i had replaced my e8 and k810i for a samsung f330,because e8's battery gets easily drain even e8 was not use too much and k810i because k810i's keypad light doesn't work anymore and i have v8 but v8 doesn't work anymore because of charger-usb connector also doesn't work anymore it needs a repair for a second time now my v8 was just 1year and 1month and just turning a 2months this january11 and i had just bought samsung f330 last year also december30,08 and i discovered f330's features are great..its a slide phone with 2mp and a vga cam. and it does a picture-shuffling by the featured myscreen and it has a backgroundplaying so i dont regret of replacing e8 and k810i with the samsung f330

Maybe senior members can do justice to this question, but let me put my part... E8 cam is not one of the best ones. First, it needs full lightening for imaging. Even if you snap in full light, the colors will be fuzzy, like an oil painting and sometimes oversaturated. In medium light, there will be noise and sometimes a purple haze in middle of pics. E8 2.0 mpix cam behaves much like 1.3 mpix cam from SE and Nokia. To get the best, snap in good light, scale down to half and you will have a adequate image. Google E8 reviews for sample snaps, but remember some of those have images from preproduction / prototype devices.

Hi guys, This phone has been great to me but I do have one question. Hope you guys can help me out. There is this constant notification system (every so number of minutes - I haven't timed it) where the phone would sound or vibrate (depending on your phone's current alert style) when you've missed a call or received a message and you haven't checked it for some time. It's real useful at times but I would really like to disable it. I'm just not sure how. An example: The girlfriend calls at night (when I'm sleeping) and I didn't answer because I didn't hear the vibrate (one of the softest vibrating phones I've owned - kind of a bad/good thing). Every so often - it should be a constant time interval - it would vibrate to tell me that I missed a call. Now this is what wakes me up. Any ideas how to turn this off? Thanks a bunch, bucow

Although this is a personal preference, being a heavy texter, I like the keypad A LOT. First the bad points. As there are no physical buttons, locating the keys needs learning. Given the width of the cell, you might also not reach full speed using one hand. Now the good news. - Travel of keys is very good for fast texting. You can press and repress keys without much efforts - Key responsiveness is nice. No delays at all - iTap just rocks. It makes texting so easy and fast by predicting 10-75% of what you want to type. - Personally I type using both hands and I am typing much better than any of my last phones. If you are a heavy texter, then you know what I mean here :)

A friend of mine has this phone and has a problem transfering photos from the mobile to the computer.The computer doesnt "see" the photos inside the files in which the photos are saved.It says the file is empty and it doesnt use any space either.i clicked on properties and it says 0mb.How can i make the computer see the photos? ------------------------------------------- I used to have the same prob before and it was a bit frustrating but i was lucky enough to be guided by someone from this site on how to view pictures. Inorder for you to transfer pictures to your computer via USB you would need to place the Connection Type to memory card mode. In that way youd be able to view the pics in the file where you've saved it. go to Settings > Connections > USB Settings > Change Connection Type to Memory Card. Hope this works! :)

Hi Gerard, Of course I still remembers you and yes it's been a while. I'm from Malaysia and the ROKR E8's price here is about USD 270. (could be lower but unfortunately due to the rising of US dollars recently.) How's your V8 by the way? My previous V8 was still in really good condition till the day I sold it off - totally no problem at all. My current E8 is still working very well as compared to some guys here and I enjoy using it so far. Thought of changing phone again Gerard? You're one of the lucky few that I knew that can afford all these at 12 years of age.

I've been using this phone for a year now i think its great not too bulky and all. sound wise to me is not too bad but it can be overwelming sometimes. But its the best phone I have used so far. Better than se n nokia mid range phone which I have used. Highly recommended but this phone lacks themes n wallpaper etc. and i am tired of the current themes.....would be nice if theres more themes.

Good to see that no one's been annoying lately.. :) BTW, maybe you guys can help. Out of curiosity, I tried to use the Moto Phone Tools (the one that came with my E8 in the box) and it says that my phone is not supported, and I clicked on the update button, and it says that my MPT is already updated. How do I take care of this issue? Can it be a USB driver issue? One more thing. I wanted to update my E8's firmware, however there are none yet available here in the Philippines. There are no updates on the website neither. Hopefully there will be one soon. I love my E8!

so i switched sim cards on my moto, and all of a sudden the player started shuffling songs and read them from the media library. By the way, the songs were located on the phone's memory. An before that i flashed my moto to the unlocked UK version and it work so much better and faster, although i previously had the dutch firmware, which lagged big time. Anyway, i have no idea what exactly happened, but i'm very happy. Still there's one issue: the battery life, all of a sudden it lasts only for a day, and i don't listen to music and i set the brightness level to 2, and i don't use the screensaver, and i keep my moto in locked mode all the time, not to mention that i don't use bluetooth, video or camera facilities at all. any advice?

On audio quality front, EM30 is EXACTLY same as E8. Same hardware, same codecs and same music player (MotoMagx). However, I dont know whether the bundled headphones differ in EM30 and E8. EM30 cuts cost mainly on internal memory, front panel and FastScroll wheel. IMHO EM30 lacks the X-factor of E8, though its personal preference. I'd suggest you to check out the silver EM30, you might like it better than the red one. In terms of music quality, EM30 is just another E8 in a new skin. Cheers :-)

I always remember the WOW factor on first time experience, like when I first tested E8, the morphing keypad, haptics, sound quality and the total blackout when it's on standby - you don't see any other phones that's completely black with flat surface. Those who have not tried the E8 before will be like "what should I do", "where do I start" and "where should I press because there's no button" - you know the hidden thrill factor for the first couple of seconds. So I always keep my phone locked so that my friends can touch anywhere on the front panel, it'll still won't be activated and to keep them guessing. My friends didn't think Motorola is capable of coming out with something like this. I like to tell them, look friends, see outside the box, don't always see what others are looking at only.

Awesome post Stuart, a great guide on headphones, i'll keep referring it time to time :-) Also to get maximum possible audio quality, I use 320 VBR MP3 or 192 VBR AAC. Although audio formats and bitrates are a topic of discussion on their own, keeping them high satisfies my EGO ;-) 128 CBR is just not me.

I've got a Philips earphone with in-line volume control (so as to adjust volume on the fly) and I've got to say, the quality's very good for something like $15. It has ultra-clear sound; I can hear and identify all of the instruments used in a song!

coreSolo's comment was fair & good with regards to your questions. I just wanna add a little of my personal experience with regards to earphone for E8. I found the original (bundled) earphone of E8 selling for approx. USD 25 in my country is nothing to shout about, normal quality but definitely better than some other cheap unbranded ones. I've tried worst ones in the process of searching for a better earphone unit for my E8. I saw a Bose (forgotten to note its model number) unit retailing at USD 90 and was allowed to test it out - the result, worst than the original E8 earphone. Can't believe the quality for that price. Wanted to test the Shure E2C model but the packaging will be spoilt once opened, or maybe that's the excuse the sales rep gave me in order to avoid testing. Also tested Sony's Ex90 retailing at USD 94, quality's surprisingly good, base above average, really clear and sounded not tinny. I ended up purchasing the Sony Ex088, much lower range at about USD 18, clarity very close to EX90, base lose out a little to EX90 so I guess it's value for money for this combinations. Beats out the original E8's earphone as the EX 088 comes with noise cancelling design earbuds, cancelled out maybe 70% (rough guess) of outside noise when fully inserted into our ear canal. (my opinion) So before buying any earphones out there, if you are allow to, do try out the sound quality yourself, price indications can be misleading sometimes and does not represent quality. I believe our personal budget too play a role as if you can spare more money for a pair of earphone, generally you can aim at higher range units. As for me, since my budget for an earphone is around USD 50 or below, my preference to sound quality are midrange and treble clarity (not those sharp pitchy sound though) with bass preference the last, I opted for Sony but that's my personal preference. If you are a bass guy, you need to try out more units to find the ones suitable to your taste. If you read reviews from different websites, you'll find many good quality brands but their prices too are really high. So again test them out before buying, that's the safest way to spend your money.

Loudness is subjective. For me, its average, not as loud as stereo speakers of N series. But the sound is not "tinny".

For resetting the phone back to its original state when you first bought it, go to Phone setting, look for Reset. It's going to be alot of work if you have your own themes and various settings done to your liking. I've done that before, took me a bit of time to re-set them back. Contacts & Calendar are easy though via Restore from Backup in MPT (Motorola Phone Tool) When your E8's connected to your PC via Phone Tool, try to only do what you need to do like sync, transferring files, pictures, video via Phone Tool. The message popped up "your media files are synchronizing. please try again later" indicates that your E8's connected to the phone tool software therefore you can't work on that particular menu you wanted on the phone. If you still can't get it done, go to Moto's Service Centre then.

I'm using a MicroSd card, not a MicroSDHC one. I transfered all to the music files to the phone memory and nothing changed. And btw, when i select the "shuffle" option, i get the following message: your media files are synchronizing. please try again later. In regards to my microSd being infected, i highly doubt it, cause i have never lend it to anybody and i scanned it some days ago and it was virus free. Maybe it has to do something with synchronizing? I will delete all the music files and will copy them again thru Motorola Phone Tools. Maybe it's a dumb question, but how do i reset the phone? do you mean format it? P.S.: my Moto doesn't haver T-mobile firmware. I bought an unlocked from europe.

With regards to your "Refreshing your media list. Please wait..." problem, I have not encountered this problem so far after months using E8 so I agreed with coreSolo's comment, send it back to your authorised Motorola Service Centre for check up. Backing up using Motorola Phone Tool and copy all songs into a separate folder in your PC (so that you can just transfer back later) before doing so is a great idea as they might just do a master reset for you causing all datas and musics stored be erased. Another factor I suspect could cause your problem is virus infection on your Micro Sd card. If you've been using your Micro SD card for transferring files from other PCs besides your own, there's a chance that your card's been infected rendering the stored datas/songs been corrupted. I've experienced the same before (on my other phone) and re-formatting it will solve the problem but, don't save any datas inside the corrupted card at all for re-use purpose. PC's virus infection will not harm your E8's Linux OS due to different platform so don't worry about your E8 got infected. All music/songs stored in your micro SD card are visible in your "All Songs", so as long as you have all these songs copied or backed up in your computer, there's no need to transfer (duplicate) them to your phone as they will use up more disk space in your phone. Good luck.

Is it a T-mobile or generic firmware? Is is microSD or microSDHC card? Check once without memory card. Try resetting the phone once, after taking backup. If nothing helps, get it checked at service center...

It's been refreshing my media list for an hour and still nothing. I don't know what to do. P.S.: All my music is store on the microSD card. Hey Aditya. In terms of music quality, E8 excels over i450 with same headphones and same music files both in non synthetic blind tests and in synthetic tests... Check out i450's RMAA graph which lacks a punch at lower frequencies E8's RMAA graph is one of the best ones, also check THD and IMD values In terms of Build quality, E8 is awesome. In terms of looks and X-factor, i prefer E8. But in terms of software support, nothing can beat Symbian, so i450 takes the lead here. In terms of screen size also, i450 is better, if you need to see videos or wanna browse net. Also check out small review in my other post on this page Hope it helps :)

I haven't had this phone for too long, but as of right now, I love it. It's simple to use, effective and efficient. It's no powerhouse but it does have a few nice features and they work nicely. The 2gb internal memory is handy but it would be really nice to have a bit more (4 would be just dandy) but it does have expandable memory. Overall, great phone. It's not to bad in the looks department either.

Great phone!Sound quality is above average,,videos have good quality,too,but its 320x240 resolution make them somehow small,camera is 2MP,which i would have lied it to be of at least 3MP,I like the Mode Shift technology of the phone,its capacity is good because of its 2GB of internal memory and you can expand it to up to 10GB by an 8GB SDHC(confirmed to work).Best phone I've used excluding the XPERIA1 and the N95.

I confirm my own Motorola Rokr E8 available to use 8 Gb Micro SD without any problem. No slow processor because has processor 500 Mhz. No hang because has processor 500 Mhz. No problem with the software because has processor 500 Mhz (second faster processor for mobile phone).

Hi moto IT, 100 Moto's right, get the Motorola authorized service centre to change your E8's motherboard to solve your reception signal problem. I'm the person that coreSolo read about regarding the warranty claimed motherboard.(that's why it's important to buy from your local authorised Motorola importer to fall back on cases like this) I'm a fussy mobile phone user as my demand in any phone I owned must perform "the basic requirement of a phone" to its best, namely strong signal and best voice quality. That's why I chose Motorola over the others. (I know at least one person here don't agree with me) My previous Z3 & V8 did a wonderful job on signal reception, especially V8 (I'm still impressed with it until today) even though I'm using E8 now. The first month after I purchased my E8, I noticed the signal was not as strong as my V8, signal bar fluctuated between 3 to 4 (fluctuating) whereas my previous V8 was steady strong at 5 bars - at the same location. Went to a local Motorola Service Centre, told them my problem, they performed a detail electronic diagnostic procedure and printed out about 3 pages long results showing my E8's working alright with all the tests "passed" based on its original specs UNTIL (I believe I was really lucky), my E8's signal disappeared to zero (Emergency Call) from full 5 bars while he, the tech guy was holding my E8 in his hand. That was my turning point, he got no choice but to replace my motherboard on the spot under warranty claim, took about 20 minutes to get it changed and did the diagnostic again. Now, almost 3 months after that, my E8's signal is probably about the same as my previous V8, stable and strong. One obvious difference I observed was before the motherboard change, I couldn't hold any conversations at all inside a condo elevator, totally no signal at all. Now it's fine, I get 1 to 2 bars inside and can still talk with occasional interferences. I just hope that your E8 was purchased from your local authorised Motorola distributor, otherwise it could be difficult for you to claim the motherboard. Don't blame on the phone, it's just that in manufacturing, there's no zero defect on any products so you could be unlucky, just like me.. before.. and it's now over and done with.

Dont make me laugh. The E8 could never beat N95 in CPU. N95 has a TI OMAP2420 Dual CPU running at 332mhz with a PowerVR MBX2 3D Graphics Accelerator running at 220mhz, the N95 absolutely destroys E8. Pino Well you are in a MOTO FORUM so thats a realy 1diot1c question to ask, visit a Symbian forum, 75% of the time our Smar phones are running well over 3apps at once which is very convinient since your cute little e8 would pack up and slow down. Don't know where you live, but in my area... 1)Never heard of any E8 (or most other Moto phones except Z8) has such problem. 2)If such problem really occurs, the service center would simply change the motherboard. (that means other than the outter housing, the phone is new!) See if you can ask your local service rep to change the motherboard...as electronics nowadays can't exactly be "repaired".

I bought this phone 'cause I wanted an good music phone, and I liked this phone on a first sight. I had 2 phones but i wanted this one. I was, and still am, very satisfied with the mp3 part of it. But i'm so disappointed with the phone part... Recently i had some problems with network, i'm allways unavailable- In an autorised store they check it and it stilll losing signal. The batery is very bad. Don't know what to do. It's the second Motorola pone that I bought with the same problem. Any suggestion? I'm a cellphone seller.I hope my comments will clarify all the war about Moto vs Nokia. Moto has a good design and its build quality is just perfect.Moto is the less brand that I've ver taken it to be repaired at service center.Nokia and Sonny Ericsson is the most brand to be repaired.Sony Ericsson has a weak built quality.Cracking keypad and restart issues are the most common problem on most SE phones. Nokia has also the restart issues,unable to charge,signal issues,software issues,etc. Motorola is the only brand which is almost perfect.Only a few minor software issues I have. I think mr.N81 here is only proud of his N81 advantages.He didn't wanna tell you guys how weak is the N81. I'eve ever sold N81 and I can tell you that it's made of cheap plastic,the sliding is also weak and sometimes it restarted. Installing java games is a pain.It took so much time to install games.I can do it quick on E8. Moto is always be the best since I sold E398.

I've been away too long, but looks like the same issue about Nokia is still wandering. However, I was still reading during my "absence" and have been re-evaluating the situation. Now I believe, besides the ego issue (arguing on points, features & so on here), the whole thing appears like someone is using a "suppresion" approach on E8 - they picked on E8 becoz they probably believe this is one of the best current model from Motorola with CES 2008 award that could threaten other brands. So if you read thru the comments from many back pages here, initially there were too many positive comments that supported E8's good design & features. When others came here, they'll find good positive reviews BUT now, they'll find arguments which will take away spaces/pages and saturate the good comments to appear less in a page. So guess who will benefit from this? Competitors? This is what I mean by suppression - neutralizing or saturating all the good comments so that they will not accumulate all in one page resulting in E8's image becoming less strong as before, just like politicians got publicized on their wrong personal affairs by some oppositions that have happened so many times - definitely tarnishes their image. So the best way to deal with this is to - TOTALLY IGNORE whatever comments from the person concern - no matter what he kind of comments he's coming out with. Once we "reply" to his comment, we fall into his trap. We need to prepare ourselves that his comments will be more sarcastic as time goes by to attract replies so please refrain from replying. I'm surprised to see the mobile war going on here since I last left a post (Nov. 4, 2008) and it looks like that a lot of people are blinded as to why you should buy this phone or not. I say that this phone is very good in terms of sound quality since I am a recording engineer and I must say that it bypasses most if not all the music phones, and that is the sole reason why I am very into this phone, and it's just quite annoying that people are trying to compare this phone to phones that are not of the same caliber like comparing it to smart/multimedia phones, which this phone is not because this is a MUSIC phone with added features. One more thing, this phone has a very tough surface that I've been placing it over rocks, and not a single scratch can be found. Remember, this is a music phone, and it does its job excellently... If you are not a music person, then you may look for other phones to get, but if you're into music (metal in particular) this phone is the best..

Thanks for sharing your experience with your A1000. Sorry for getting out of the topic. As I have emphasized many times through other articles, I can't understand how it took the almighty company, with at least 4 times the sales and R&D resources, took more than 4 years to come out with its first touch screen 3G device, when Moto did it with its A1000 over 4 years ago. May I ask you something about your A1000. Do you have any problem charging your A1000? Actually I still have mine in a semi-retired status. I still love the large mon and its touch screen ability. Really great for viewing pictures. The only reason my A1000 is in semi-retired status (meaning the phone still works...just that it's sitting in my closet!) is because I can't charge my A1000 about 20% of the time...thanks to the "old" Moto charger plug design! If somebody can help convert the charger plug of my A1000 into mini-USB, I would wouldn't mind to pay US$100! (that's how much I love my A1000)

First of all, you should learn to listen to people a bit better :) I did not compare A1000 to N81, I said it was way better. For me, of course. No, really... I have no doubt that you need hi speed internet access, program flash content on your phone and play 3D games, and for that N81 is better. But that is for your own needs. All that is of no importance to me. I do heavy typing. A1000 is light years away in that regard. I had a keyboard smartphone before and it was a pain to use for my work. It might be dream for everything else but I need my smartphone for work. Not for internet arguments. So what if it is 5 years old ? It does its job perfectly. You use big words really easy. It crushes, it destroys, but in reality N81 doesn't have a touch screen and A1000 does. And that is everything from my point of view. One should not force its own opinion on others. As I said before, you should learn to listen to people and their needs. I wanted a device which is superb for typing, and I have it. Now I want a device which is superb for music, and I will get the E8. Money is not a problem to me. I already have 8 phones, 4 of which active, a supercomputer, a laptop, etc. And everything has its purpouse. I could buy your N81, an N95, and Luna and wear them all around my neck. But they would be useless to me. On the other hand I can have better serving devices like A1000 and E8. My needs are not the same as yours, or as most people go, so I will not force my combination of devices on anyone else. I am glad that you are so happy with your N81, and I would never recomend you one of my phones because you would find something lacking. You would miss some of the features you are used to. Everyone should be aware that you can never have "the best" phone. Even if you had a phone with all possible features it would shy away from the beauty of fashion phones. So at the end of the day we all choose things for our own liking. I came here to ask a precise question about E8 music quality, and I got the answer (special thanks to 100 Moto, jjsoviet and coreSOLO). My Smartphone is a Multimedevice, i can write loads on my keypad, touchscreen on that old device of yours is nothing much. My device despite having a fancy spec sheet STILL performs brilliantly. Ive had it run full Web browsing on GSMArena watchng YouTube videos, having a high quality 3D game running, another web browser, file manager, and Music with no problem, the spec sheet is just an understatement of what a N81 can realy do, and it crushes you old a1000, why did you even try compare? Your device runs 5yearold hardware, i'd rather get a SE P900 or NOKIA 7610 if i want something old and good.

Yep, all nice on paper I agree. But my A1000 has that 2.9 inch touch screen and I can type as many Word pages as I like whem I'm on the move, which would be quite difficult on a classic keyboard. I am a translator, so my smartphone earns money. It is not for showing off or annoying other brand users. There is a big difference with specs for internet bragging, and true life functionality ;) Cheers mate, live and let live !

LOL! You make me laugh. Your A1000 is an OUTDATED FAILURE! X-D LOL! Its got a poor 208x320 2.9inch screen, must be one blocky display. How much RAM does that thing have? Like 32MB RAM chip? I believe my first para clears your doubts about the music quality. Man i've tested everything against E8 except iPhone, and E8 beats s**t out of everything. Better go to any moto store to get a demo, just bring a good headset with you, ep-630 is a minimum if you wanna get max out of it. It would be stupid to comapare them in total, as they are not same kind of devices. Lemme break up the competition in a few sections and state the winner in a specific sub-category : music = E8 (which you are most concerned about) ----------------------------------------------- Unparallel music quality. Apart from all these reviews and RMAA tests on various sites, i've long explored this area on my own. I've got access to almost every phone in market at my workplace (sorry if you are not concerned, just some free time in office lol) and i've tested the best ones using standard set of headphones and same audio files. E8's sound has more warmth and fidelity, i'll rank it THE BEST. 2GB built-in memory, upto 8GB microSDHC support (16GB yet to be confirmed on E8), FastScroll wheel REALLY helps if you have huge collection. calling = E8 ------------ I think CrystalTalk does make a difference here. Though N81 is also not bad. SMS/keypad = E8 --------------- Unfortunately N81's keypad is simply poor and keys are stiff. E8's heptic keypad is a charm to work with and very good for SMSing, though there is a small learning curve. Also iTap completes the words for you. external speakers = N81 ----------------------- Thanks to its stereo speakers, music and calls on external speakers are better on N81. media browsing = N81 -------------------- Willing to browse thru huge collection of pics? We didn't say that the E8 is the overall better choice than the N81. The N81, being a smart phone, obviously has very good features the E8 lacks. However, when it comes to the music department alone, the E8 defeats the N81 hands down.

There are absolutely NO VIRUSES for s60v3 especialy for Feature Pack-1 which N81 has. The last s60"virus" was on s60v2 (6630, 6680 etc. . .) 3years ago, quit living in the past lol. Compare a N81 to E8 is fair, both are for Music, but like a typical Nseries the N81 will have extra features such as Wi-Fi. The N81 does not lag at all, and hardly freezes. ACTUALY since updating to its latest FW it hasnt frozen or rebooted at all, and yet im heavy on it. I run well over 5applications at once with absolutely no lag. The N81 is far better than a E8.

Out there to steal my data and compromise my privacy. Get one and your N81 is useless until you remove it or format N81 (formatting is not a bad thing guys). Not a problem, anti-viruses are there. But just install one of them and see your N81 crawling down again lol. The N81 is obviously superior to the E8, why still keep on nagging these forums? It's still unfair at the start to have a smartphone match against a non-smartphone. Even if the N81 is Music and Gaming oriented, it has too many features that the E8 doesn't have to call this a fair fight. The best competitor out there in Nokia is the XpressMusic 5310.

Hell, the slow E8 is due to the old firmware. Of course there are new versions available and I have one of them. I can now text or play 3d Java games while playing music (WMA lossless file format) without lags at all. The new versions have simplified codings unlike the old ones. You and your so-called "powerful" Symbian will be someday replaced with something better. Believe me.

I love how you keep pulling that the masses card,lol, fair enough then, your E8 lags whilest playing Music and Texting, thats what you said, well last i checked these two features are used heavily nowhere days by the masses, and many expect their +$200 phone to ATLEAST be able to run Music Player, Messaging and IM at once with no lag, yet the MUSIC/TEEN orientated E8 cant even handle running Music and Messaging well? Im currently listening to Music, have Opera8.65 running, OperaMini running, Contacts, Messaging and X-Plore all running and my N81 is still fast, hasnt even frozen, plus i have Transitions and Menu Effects turned On. I have to admit that the Linux OS in my E8 is a lagfest, however that's because of the advanced processing power needed to use the ModeShift keypad. Also, older firmware versions have the slow original theme (Onyx) because of its complex coding. Newer firmwares have simplified themes which would allow snappier menu response. Try out finding help from these sites: www.modmymoto.com www.mmus.us Registration is free, and all you have to have is your data cable and some software and firmware to download.

Regarding your statement: A clamshell, even if it's prettier and somewhat easier to use, also relies on a hinge to flip open/closed, and that is it's week spot. Not sure what experience you have with any Moto's flip phone regarding the flip ever fails. My understanding is most Moto flip phones go thru a test with at least 100,000 times open / close action. My oldeest flip phone...Moto V60i, is still working great! Other old flip phones I've in my collection that are still working include V600, V3x, V6, etc.. From my experience, everything else might fail (such as the original battery probably can only last 18 months) before the flip dies. Can you share your experience with (Moto) flip phones which failed your standards?

Totally Off-Topic, but: If I were to compare the N81 with the E8 , i'd say the following: The N81 is a BMW M3: It's fast, sleek, fully featured, a great piece of technology! The E8 is like a Mazda RX8: for a relatively smaller price you get a more impractical, less featured car with some quirky operation and maintanace (look the RX8 up at wikipedia to understand). But when you arrive at the party(metaphorically speaking) with the BMW, you are just one of the other 100 jerks who have arrived in a BMW. But with the RX8, you are the only jerk at the party who arrived with a RX8 :P PS: don't get me wrong, BMW and Mazda both make great cars and people who drive them aren't jerks at all!

Hey, I missed all the fun in this forum! The N81 vs E8 is gettingridiculous right now. No one in the right mind would compare a hut to a mansion or n electric fan to an air conditioner. So what if the N81 is better than the E8? This is not a reason for you to brag all about it and throw destructive criticisms. You're bullying here and not helping the consumers. By the way, there was a time some guy was looking for good speakers. He fancied an Altec Lansing set and tried it with his N81. I was in that same store too and decided to listen to the music capabilities of the N81. I heard it and it was crisp and good in bass. After his testing, I tried the speakers by myself using my E8. I can't believe that some of the people in the vicinity wondered about the music playing in the store! They thought I was using a laptop, but they were astonished that is was the E8. A store salesman asked me the price and specs of the phone, and he was surprised to hear that it was just cheap. Even the guy with the N81 looked at me with an expression of wonder and anger. This is a real experience from me. I am not making up stories.

I respect Anonymous' (nFfh) view and decision. Bought E8, found it not something he/she is looking for, bought LG instead and found it OK. I can't say Anonymous (nFfh) must continue & accept E8 over LG, we can't just force people to accept something what we think is the best, it's human nature that we don't like to be forced. Similarly some years ago I've purchased an LG Chocolate myself, played with it for a day and found it not my kind, returned it and bought a Motorola, and it's been Motorolas until now. I agree with this person. I bought a new phone today to replace my E8... please don't laugh at the name, but I bought an LG Cookie!! It was exactly the same price as the utterly poorly performing E8 I bought 2 months ago, and its MUCH better. For a start the camera is actually useable! And then there is a long list of other things that my LG performs better on. The only thing I don't have is 2gb internal mem, but thats no loss, i'll just buy a card off Amazon for �10.

No i'm afraid i've overlooked the other 98 pages of posts. The point I was trying to make is that i'm just a 'normal average user' who wants my phone to work. I don't feel I should have to scour the net for 3rd party bobbies to make the phone work to a normal standard. I don't expect it to make my breakfast, I just want it to answer calls and send texts, but it cant do either of these very well. One thing I also dont get is why does it change certain words when you add a question mark or exclamation in predictive. Another sooo frustrating thing about this phone. Anyway, rant over, the LG beast will be in hand today. I just feel that people need to know first hand what its like to own one of these phones as many of the reviews on here are from people who have either a) only seen this phone or used it once OR b)clever guys like you who have made the slow software a little bit faster. Do bear in mind that average joe probably doesnt even know what firmware means.

Uhmm no, actualy my N81 doesnt realy slow down when multitasking. It has On-Demand Paging which controls the Power useage of apps, CPU clockspeed, power consumption and speed of the device in general to insure a good user experience its a shame MOTO havent put it on their phones.

Dude, just in case you didnt get it, 3rd party software is used only when you want to squeeze that extra bit out of your phone platform. While most of the users can live happily with factory settings, its only some power users who needs that extra tweaking. We hope you've gone thru older posts, coz we dont feel like explaining the same things to every other noob :P

Also, in response to this. Why should you have to install 3rd party programming to make your phone work properly. It should work as soon as it comes out of the factory, not after you have searched the web for some knocked up code to replace the orignal UI with! I love the look of this phone, but everything just falls below standards. It's 2008 not 1999. Come Moto, up to speed please.

Hi, its me again. They guy who is going to buy an LG to replace my E8!! I have looked at the mm.us site, but to be honest i'm past caring about using the phone. I have a buyer on Ebay and a deal has been done. I must say to the person who made a comment about this handset and its multi-tasking. This phone CANNOT vibrate and ring at the same time. I thini this is a crucial feature of any phone. If you set it to vibrate then ring it takes about 3 seconds to answer the call after you press accept. I know this doesnt sound like a long time but when your phone rings and the caller hears 3 seconds of silence they normally just hang up. Any phone should be able to answer straight away and vibrate and ring at the same time. The vibe and ring features is one i've missed. I hate having to switch it to vibe when i'm out of the house and may not hear it, and ring when i'm in the house and the phone is on the side somewhere. It's a pain in the bloody arse.

I flashed a Bestwebs monsterpack and it worked great. The menus are snappier and the perfomrance of the music player has gotten faster. Lags are not noticeable anymore as the skin was made simpler. In short, the developers simplified the coding of the skin (Onyx) and reduced its filesize for the phone to be faster. Previous versions of the Onyx have intricate codes which made the E8 initially slower than normal.

Well, do all people want or know that their phones can multitask? No. Multitasking may open more applications at the same time, but it would slow the phone down no matter how powerful the processor it has. Why keep picking on the E8? Why not other ones that can have comparable features? Try the Z10, ZN5, Q9, etc. The E8 is only a music phone. Your N81 can easily bully us because of all those snazzy and unwanted features.

Lol @ Geeky phones. By the way i see the E8 cant multitask (run multiple 3rd party apps at once) whats up with that? For a device with 500MHz it SHOULD be able to multitask and run highquality videos but instead its waisting all that power, great example of bad software implementation, sorry JJ but i'd be mad if i knew my device was not running at its full potential due to poor implementation by its manufacturer. Maniac Good luck with that, if i want something stylish to make me look serious in my suit i'd get a NOKIA E71 which is made out of metal allroun, a HTC TouchDiamond or a BlackBerry Bold, all 3 are well priced, all 3 are stylish, serious, business orientated, run powerful OSs, can multitask, and are for power users at the same time, NONE of those 3 are "geeky" sorry but both E8 and N81 are CLEARLY for the young 16-24 and by pulling out a MOTO you will simply be showing that you're life hasn't exactly turned out the way you were hopping it would, and now you're forced to get a MOTO, as well as being stuck in the past.

Indeed. Motorola has done some stuff wrong but that doesn't stop us from loving their top-quality phones. We care about the consumer experience; we should not be daunted by all those reviews and ratings which can possibly hinder other consumer's decisions in making the right choice. Motomodding.us is very proficient and friendly in helping their Motorola users modify their software. The current best ones for the E8 are Bestwebs' software and martin_cz's firmware.

@anonymus last poster: before you go get yourself an LG (if you want to change your Motorola, change it for another good phone brand: Nokia, not LG :P just kidding ), try the following: Use google and search "motomodding.us". Click on the first link the search engine returns (it should be something like "mmus.us") and you'll get to a forum where people will help you gladly with your E8 problems :) you can find there better and faster Software for your phone.

I have had my E8 software checked. I have also tried upgrading it via motorolas website, but alas, no luck. I'm going to buy an LG tomorrow and put this E8 on Ebay!!

I work in a mobile gaming studio. We got this set way back as a proto and I have a long working experience with it (cant buy it though, but willing to, lack of money lol). I want to highlight 2 things from my perspective 1. I still remember the WOW factor it carried in our studio, with every other person wanted to get his/her hands on E8 and it still is a charm in new joinees lol 2. We have a rough time handling the sets and have got a bad history of screwing up nice sets, (ppl using ball pens as stylus :P) and broken keys here and there. Initially i thought E8 will not be able to stand tall against, but the build quality of this set is awesome. All the heptic keys are working fine and front panel has acceptable scratches. That includes super rough handling and daily game testing on this set... E8 might not include frills from some higher end sets, but its a music set and what it does, it does with a punch :)
