Motorola V176 - User Reviews

  • The arrow keys in the center does it. Can't remember whether it's the up/down or left/right.

  • 1st off Id like to say that I love this site. The info provided about phones is fantastic. And the feedback from users is a great way to get a feel for the phone without purchasing it. Ive read through every post here. And I would just say, that besides changing times and newer and better things coming out, this is by far the absolute longest lasting and most dependable phone I have ever had the pleasure of using. I bought this phone as a xmas gift to myself in '05. I have never had to replace it despite many falls and the occasional swim. Every feature of this phone still works as intended. Not to mention that the coverage through Net 10 is far better than that of which I experienced through an Ericsson phone using Verizon. This v176 phone is just short of being bullet proof. It may be dull and boring to most, but it will never fail you when you need it most.

  • Press the up button while you're talking on the phone to turn the volume up. Toughest phone I've ever had. Been using it for over two years. It's been underwater at least five times, and, sure, the battery only lasts three days now and the vibrate function doesn't work, but it still makes and receives calls!

  • Does anyone know how to adjust the volume on the v176 phone? I can't find it anywhere and the volume is too low.

  • Ordered the phone through Net10 website via next day air, the order was processed 4 days later and received the phone on the 6th day after ordering. The phone was missing a sim card so Net10 sent the sim card out US mail and it arrived 3 days later. Finally was able to activate the phone, made my first call and there is a problem with the earpeice speaker in the phone, volume is set to max and I can barely hear people I am talking to.

  • I've had my V176 phone from Net10 for about 4 months. The phone is nothing but a phone and a good one. It holds battery charge several days. I have a good signal, no dropped calls and a good clear audio. The experience with Net 10 is same as the phone, good service, good price and no hassle. If you want a camera, GPS, computer connection or the other bells and whistles this is not the phone for you. If you want a good solid, reliable, compact cellphone consider the Motorola V176/Net10 combo.

  • What's the problem with the design? For a free phone & 900 minutes why complain?

  • First the CONS: NO CALENDAR! WTF? Even the lNEWEST Net10 V176 phone has a calendar! In not having this important feature, one cannot set reminders for appointments, etc past the current day. VERY minimal/basic customized display settings. BORING! The polyphonic ringtones SUCK and are have a lot of static, and make a short 'clicking' sound before and after ringtone plays. The text messaging is S-L-O-W and cannot keep up with average typing of words/numbers. Unlike the CURRENT Net10 design, this phone does NOT have the very convenient feature of "Call Screening." This feature (on current Net10 phones) allows one to put unwanted callers on a list where your phone does not RING when that particular caller calls. Yet, the call goes into a list where you know they called. TOO KOOL! Any other cons I can live with. What do ya expect for a pre-paid phone that comes free with the $30 minutes that you buy? I just wish there were more upgraded Net10 phones! PROS: A pretty decent phone for free with minutes! And I really like the design and flip-top! The numbers are way easier to press than the current, standard Net10 phone. But the ringtones are crisper/clearer on current Net10 standard phone.

  • Smokejumper is a meanie! Stop worrying about other people and type a review that is worthwile. People, stop using these forums to take your anger out on other people, just because you go to work/school and try to voice your opinion there and NO ONE will listen to your one-sided feminist opinions there either. Most likely cuz ur really LARGE and not in charge...

  • what does your comment have anything to do with the company.you havent said one word that means or says anything.i havent startedwith them but mars'n talk dont say much.......

  • Net 10 is the cheapest way to get a cell phone if you are not long-winded or inclined to spend hours surfing the web. I continue to build up minutes, which ends up giving all the phone service I need for only fifteen bucks a month. I recently ordered a V176 from them, and with the included 600 minute airtime card and the 300 minutes upon activiation they ended up paying me thirty bucks to take it. The vehemence with which some embrace their ignorance is indeed amazing.

  • Net 10 is quite good. It's cheaper than a phone company screwed into your wall at home. The V176 Motorola works great. 10-cents per minutes ends up cheaper than any other phone unless you talk for long periods. Get something like MagicJack for longer calls.

  • The vehemence...You prove your own first sentence, lol.

  • The vehemence with which some people embrace their ignorance is amazing. Yes, Net10 is a scam, it's all an elaborate ruse to trick you, specifically, out of your money. No glitches or mistakes ever occur, it's simply unadulterated malice mixed with a healthy dose of duplicitous greed.

  • Been with net 10 for two years no problems. If you go to net10 website you can get a excellent deal on the v176.For prepaid net10 in my opinion is the best.Best rate for minutes and the best part plenty of time to use those minutes.

  • Update on getting SIM card. It came special delivery 2 days. I was impressed. Once again, called Net10 and immediately got a tech and we got the phone activated. I actually have better coverage at my home than my daughters expensive, fancy sprint phone. It may be fun to have the fancy stuff, but this price is right for my needs. I am pleased with customer service and the phone so far.

  • I just got this phone this weekend. It is quite simple and easy to operate. If you want bells and whistles, pay more for a different phone, but it looks like a good sturdy basic phone. I am having trouble activating the phone, but I wanted to say that Net 10 answers the tech line immediately. No wait. I am impressed so far with their help. They are sending me a new SIM card. So I haven't been able to try out this phone yet. I have read bad things about the company, so far, I have had good tech support.

  • I've had this phone for about a year now (Net10), and it's the best I've found yet for the prepaid market. It feels heavier and sturdier, and it does withstand a few drops now and then. The only thing I would have liked to see was maybe an external screen, but no biggie. It's a PHONE. It's not an iPod or a camera, and it won't do your laundry, but it talks clean and clear and it's durable.

  • It is a verry good phone, with nice display, nice keyboard lightning, but I don't understand one thing: whre is java midp 2.0, because I've tried to download and install opera mini, and I couldn't because it says: your phone is not java compatible. Is that true?

  • SOmeone please explain how you can hook this phone up to USB. I see two ports, one for a charger and one for headphones! What am I missing? I would like to be able to download my phonebook without typing it all in.

  • I wanted a good and dependable Tracfone for occasional use and that's exactly what I got. Don't need to take pictures or listen to music through a phone. Lot's of features to select from and the voice quality is excellent. Fits extremely well in an after market ($19) swiveling belt holder. Battery life is exceptional. A very good, not too basic, dependable cell phone. Highly recommended.

  • Good phone, but Net10 wouldn't let me re-up access!!! I tried online, got error message after credit card transfer of $100 for 1000 minutes. They wouldn't give time -- then wouldn't refund money, then the refunded money shows up in my account, much later, BUT dated for BEFORE my access time elapsed. WTF? Spent SEVEN HOURS+ on phone with them trying to rectify problem, before asking for refund, several days AFTER access period elapsed. (how did the money show up dated as refunded to my account, BEFORE I asked for the money back-when I was still trying to extend tyhe service contract? I think now, that it was a deliberate scam on their part!) I think they sell the things on purpose just to rip people off! I had great hopes for Net10, but they are impossible! Avoid buying the v176 from them. Try instead buying an unlocked phone from somewhere else that might accept a TracPhone/Net10 sim card. As it is, I spent 70$ for a phone that I used 200 minutes on, in a two month period, without being able (through no fault of my own) to extend service. Avoid these people like the plague! They are not the answer!

  • Where is the USB, don't see it.

  • The USB connection is indeed there...but hard to see/find. Look on the top...it is under the black rubberized slip...

  • I bought this phone for two reasons. One, to let my son contact me or his mother in the event of an emergency. So far it works well as a simple phone. Two, so my son and I could develop software for cell phones. The phone is advertised to have a USB connection to connect with my PC. As far as I can tell, there is no USB connection -- mini, micro, or otherwise. Maybe it was there originally but was removed when then phone was "refurbished". I don't know. But it's not there now. And I needed the USB connection. So the phone is only half useful to me. Had I only wanted a phone, I would have bought an even cheaper one. It's disappointing, but I do have to say the phone does work well.

  • scooby, what r u talking about, i have tracfone and they allow me to download rigtones and pictures... just go to www.tracfone.com and go to services and support go click on ringtones and more. Enter your serial number (IMEI number) and your phone number and press continue. Then download away on your ringtones, you choose them and when you find the one you want click buy and then choose your payment-- airtime units deducted or $1.99 on your credit card but you would need to make a account to do it that way.

  • bought this phone last week. love it so much i bought one for my daughter at college too. i bought a new LG Tracfone this spring and have nothing but trouble. LOUSY reception!!! with this motorola and net10 service i have had no problems. i like the solid feel of this phone and the individualized buttons so if im dialing by feel, i can tell which number i'm on.

  • Really like this phone, have had it for a few months now, and I can't complain. I have downloaded ringtones and images to it and have had no problems. It's a very nice phone, and it's really easy to use. Speakerphone feature is nice. I wish it had a power on/off feature like other Motos, but I'll live. Overall, I love this phone, glad I bought it.

  • hey i got this phone and i was just wondering if it actually did have downloadable ringtones or if it just says that

  • Nice phone--lousy documentation/user guide. I've complained to Motorola and to the carrier. Hopefully they will address the omissions and errors.

  • Tracfone charges roaming fees while Net 10 does not for those who are comparing. I hope Net 10 will offer a Motorola that will accept a Blue Tooth adapter because I have 3 left over from work phone. Now I am retired, I will be using Net 10 because my wife has one and we compared the reception areas between my work phone which was US Cellular and Net 10 would work all the time while the US Cellular would not get a signal.

  • I've tried several times to install jimm icq client on V177 without any result. I'm 99% that here is no Java MIDP 2 support in V177. Any ideas?

  • if your a NET10 user then this is the best phone by them yet, but if your trying to compare to some 300$ ipod phone crap then this isint a phone for you. they are like 88$ and worth every penny, clear sound and great reception. plus net10 has the best rates of all prepaid ive seen.

  • i was a little upset that the weight and dimensions weren't shown so i went out and here they are: weight=73.53 oz. and the dimensions = 3.48"x 1.88"x .96" (88x44x24 mm)

  • It's simple, easy to use, good reception and good battery life. It may not have a camera or play real music but if you want a camera; buy a camera, if you want to hear music buy a stereo or ipod.

  • does it come in any different colors? please let me know i really want a pink one but i can only find blue or black comment with the answer if you know _bobette_

  • Excuse me. Nextel used this phone quite successfully. Sure Tracfone disables some of the features, however, IF you have a V60i, it is a 1,000% better phone. Also, call Tracfone for "new codes" to be entered into your phone. In SOME ares (MOST ALL), they are adding features for existing as well as new customers. The V176 should come with these activated. IF you want more features, get a 2 yar plan and pay $500.00 or more a year for the plan! IF you talk a lot - why get Tracfone anyway? Use your "head" (the one at the TOP of your body "men"!)!!!

  • it's a fantastic phone . it doesnt have dimension & weight:)))))

  • i have this phone for net10. its a great phone. good reception and service. but i am wondering 2 things. 1)what does the button on the side do? the only thing i have found it does is that if the back light turns off and you press it it turns it back on. and 2) i have recorded many 20 second clips and i would like to know how to get them as a ringtone. either email me or leave another comment if u know.

  • Note to the individual(s) that were comparing Tracfone and Net10: If you were to go to their respective websites, you would find that they are one and the same. Same company, same coverage, same products. Therefore one cannot, by definition, be better than the other. Even an in-depth analysis of the rates shows that the difference is minimal or insignificant for the user who shops carefully for the best prices on refill cards. My guess is that they may have changed the name from Tracfone to Net10 because there are folks who would not buy from Tracfone because it is a Mexican company. They wanted to create a different market positioning to address that market segment. Myself, I have no problem with it being a Mexican company. It provides the service I need at the rate I am willing to pay. No domestic company offers a comparable product/service.

  • If you buy this as a net10 phone, then yes, you can get a MUCH "better" contract phone from a contract deal for a much lower cost. However, it is very nice for a prepaid phone, and it is a PHONE! I like the alarm clock & speakerphone features, though I'm yet to use the latter. It also has vibrate! It appears decently durable in its closed form, and it has enough options to please most folks, yet not enough to scare away the elder generation. It is a great PHONE! if you're going prepaid (net10 also seems to be a good deal for those who talk more than in emergencies, but still strictly limit use).

  • Ispiration makes motorolla BeTTeR

  • There already is on the market the brother of v176, the new v177 which has exterior display.

  • Come on people!! This phone is for the prepaid market. You are not going to get any better than this for flip and the C139 for bar format. What do you all expect?? Bluetooth, MP3, edge??? Net10 is the better than Tracfone for reception and plans. This phone is well suited for its needs....

  • I purchased the v176 (Net10) over the 4th of July weekend from Wal-Mart for $88. It is basically an improved v170 or v171. Improvements include a much better display, better feeling keys, better ringtones, speaker phone, and a modern user interface. (The user interface resembles what you find on new Motorola phones for contract plans. A big improvement over the v170 user interface.) The earpiece sounds the same as the v170, not quite as loud as I would like though loud enough. Overall, the v176 is an improvement over the previous Tracfone/Net10 offerings.

  • just like the crappy v170 phone that tracfone offers...that tracfone lies about having the downloadable features

  • MANUAL FOUND AT:

  • It would be better if it had an external display and voice dialing.

  • does anyone know if Tracfone will be offering the Push to talk version of this phone? their website doesnt say

  • I think that this phone is great! I love it. Is this phone a Tracfone? I hope it comes out soon!!

  • perfect desing, very clean look and stylish. it could be better with card slot and mp3 support. i don't care about cameras, if want a camera, but a digital camera or wait the companies build one with a good quality because even K750 camera quality sucks.

  • Well for my money I want at least a 128160 screen (176220 even better), MP3 support (who cares about the rarely supported AAC), strong battery life, good reception, elegant clamshell design, logical menu (all names displayed WITHOUT entering the first letters etc.) and durability. :D

  • i think is the best phone i have ever seen so far and i really appreciate and the model

  • Come on people, this is _low-end_ class phone, what do u want, for such a price? If u want a 'monster' and have much of money, buy moto V3, N6230i or SE K750

  • i think the phone is a classic and a v. elegant design. its looks great. a little more features would have had been better.

  • Its a nice design phone. But I hate the antenna.

  • Dont release this wrecked design. Not worth using. bad, bad , bad !

  • Motorola is going down the road. Instead of improving, they are screwing around the designs. I am not impressed at all. Its a shame.

  • Finally a clean and simple design phone with only the basic functions. I LOVE it. Well done Motorola!

  • this phone is ugly and is an ok for a fist timer phone i wouldn't really recommend it
