The camera made all my friends look sooooo thin and beautiful, a few still have the pics from this phone on their facebook! but this was the best phone of my teens, did i mention it was durable? oh the memories!!!

Both me and my mum got new phones in 2006 - she bought this one. I've gone through two phones since then but her V220 is still working well! 6 years! And it doesn't look like it's going to give up any time soon! Quite extraordinary.

I got this phone from my mother in 2006. It is a 2003 V220. It has been dropped in water, down stairs, across pavenment, in snow, and smashed into corners when in my pocket. And after all of that it still works, and has the original battery!!! I love this phone!!!!!!!

Please can you give me an indication as to what is the matter with the handset, i.e: the display doesnt readily come on, occasionally flashes on and off, when the screen does come on it only displays half with letters aand digits back to front.....does this handset have any display i.c's or could it be a flexi problem?

3 people in my family got this fone for xmas few years back i also got one..it was my first motorola fone and can clearly say my last ill never go for a motorola fone again POS ..2 of the phones flip made weird noises when flipping the screen up mine however didnt the software on the phone is buggy and crashes a good lot it did last me a year and half but then i forgot my password to access the phone so i got my relitives v220 and it was really bad when inside a building calls would drop would have to go outside it would turn off and the camera stopped workinng after that my other relitive who also had one only stopped using it in 2009 so lasted almost 5 years so only some are faulty..i liked the way if you missed a call or txt it would beep to let you know the battery was very bad in this fone from the start gets drained way to easily..not reallly reccomended i got a SE K310i after that and it was a excellent fone..now have a LG touchscreen and nokia 2330 they are both the best and most reliable fones ive bought to date im sick of sony ericsson phones they go crap after a year or so well the to models i had k610i and k770i..my k770i died after over 2 years over usage so i suppose that was a good phone !

I bought this phone back in 2004. While I've gone through several other phones (SLVR L7/w810i/Treo650), my trusty v220 has always been there as my backup! Ever since I bought a $6 Chinese 750mAh battery, I've only had to charge this phone once every week and a half to boot! This phone's fallen in lakes (two or three times), been dropped out from the second story of a condo (onto pavement), and it's still kicking!

I have an expensive mobile which I LEAVE it at home when goin out at night with friends!! I have had the same V220 since day one its small nifty and VERY good for a 2nd FONE ok so its not got vids bluetooth etc etc SOOOOO remember it came out in 2003/4 bluetooth was in its infantcy then this is a great 2nd fone I also remember the V50 when that was introduced been a motorola fan all my life I have the K1 to am in my 40's all I need is a mobile that works NOT one that could get stolen at a oppertunity...

Phone has served me VERY well for 4 years with no maintenance. It has great battery life, good coverage even in weak signal areas, and has clear, easy to read display and large enough keys to be useful. Weakness is that it has always given the wrong time by 1 hour on vmail messages, and all the buttons on the outside of the unit cause problems if I am not careful what I touch when I pick it up to answer. Those buttons are seldom used except to turn off the ringer, but they do other things that must be related to the non-phone functions. Too bad they are not recessed. Great phone for people who want a phone and not a toy. (For camera I use Canon Digital EOS. For computer I use HP Workstation and Dell laptop.) I use my phone as a phone, and have a hard time finding phones with specs as good as this one. Note: Phones used as other devices are useless to far-sighted people unless they wear bifocals, since everything on them is way too small be of any value.

Possibly the CRAPPEST phone I had. 1. The camera was crap 2. The "MP3" was crap 3. You could not download any videos 4. Hardly any features 5. No bluetooth 6. The IM was completely pointless My LG Chocolate is MUCH better :)

In a few weeks, it'll be 3 years with this phone. I've only replaced the battery as I was only getting about 1.5 days of use out of it. Using Mobile Phone Tools with this phone, it was excellent. I used it in a remote eastern Canada Location for Internet access with my Laptop (No problem, albeit expensive!) It worked perfectly in Dubai UAE, London England, Madrid Spain, the US and Central Mexico. I'm upgrading next month, ONLY because I want blue tooth. This phone has a lot of miles on it!

I have never lived with this phone so I can't tell you if it's good or bad. My mother in law loved hers, and let's just say it hasn't been pampered by her. If you have Motorola's phone tools software and a data cable for one of the new RAZR's (as an example) it will work great on this phone! Nice if you upgrade and want to move your pictures and phone numbers over to your new Motorola whatever.

I love this phone. I have used it for a year. The overal, it is a useful phone. I can transfer photo easily to the computer by the USB cable, and also I could use this phone as a model to connect me trought the internet with the gprs tools. I also can transfer mp3 and 3gp video to this phone although with a limited file size. The battery is good. I can use it in 3 days for the minimum use. My phone is pink,.. nice color for me. The problem now, I am not able to hear the sound of this phone when I call someone or receive someone's calling. Yeah I know why it could be like that. This phone has dropped for several time from the table,. But it's still strong enough for the first time. Just now, the problems come out. So I have to use either earphone or speaker to the hear the voice. I still love this phone. I have tried to open the case and repaired it by my self, but no clue. Actually it is easy to be opened.,

I have it for 2.5 yrs. Not bad for basic phone, once had breakdown. Connectivity with PC ... uhhh, I spent 3 months to find all details (software, USB drivers and the way to connect) After 2.5 years (although kept carefully) battery's coming empty after 30hrs. I found out that works with MOTO phones - if it's full with pics&mp3 it will block some of the features. what you need to do - MASTER RESET.

Honestly this was my second phone and i HATED it. Whenever i closed it it felt like it was about to fall apart. Felt like a plastic toy. The screen inside was waaayyyy to small. Thought it would of been bigger at first. Camera was poor. The only thing i liked about it was that it was pretty loud when it wrang.

I actually liked this phone, even though there was no video or recording. I loved the fact that I could change the color of my camera. Unfortunately, after about six months, the screen would go blank when I tried to go to Settings, but it would go back to normal. Then it got rained on for about 2 or 3 days straight, and it still worked! I just couldn't see who called me.

well it's gd if u want something basic but it hardly has anything gd on it, i've had mine for 2 years and the camera no longer works, 1 of my games doesn't work at all and the other one runs so slow u cnt ply it. The best thing about it is probably it's looks and they aren't even tht gd...

I had this phone for about a year, but got through 2 of them. It doesn't have any decent features, like bluetooth, tiny memory and the camera isnt all that great due to bad zoom and no flash. V220 number 1 - Lasted about 7 months. In about 3, a line of pixels on the smaller screen didn't work. But I could still tell the time and stuff. But then my camera died completely. Got a new one from Virgin. V220 number 2 - This one lasted a big longer but the ariel came out and got lost, making signal rubbish. It is a good phone, but not now so many other features have come out. If you want a cheap, basic phone, I recommend this one. Oh yeah, and dont ice skate with it in your pocket! the silver around the camera came off! :P

Great phone. Never had any problems with it. Recently decided to try W375 thinking it was an upgrade but it was useless. Flashy yes but couldn't put own ringtones or pics on or download pics so now using my trusty old V220, which is pink, and am much happier. Yes it bulky but still small enough for any handbag. Pics come out great (using Motorola PhoneTools) and i can listen to Lionel Richie everytime someone rings or texts. Love it!

The camera function failed within 6 months or so, but I kept it because that did not matter. A few months after the one year warranty expired, the display began to fail - it went entirely blank about 4 months before the two year contract expired. A lemon in my opinion.

I've had this fone for jus more than a year and i don't think it's very good. The internet on it doesn't work. It doesn't have bluetooth or infrared and my USB link doesn't work either. It scratches easily and if i were you i'd NEVER get this fone, but if you don't need BT or irDA and you don't use a camera then i guess it's ok!!!!

Obviously, it's not the best phone on the market but hey, as many people have commented - you get what u paid for. If you're not looking for anything fancy, this phone will serve you well.

I had this phone for a little over a year and at first it was working fine. The camera wasn't that good so I didn't use it. No problems there. The battery life could have been way better, I was charging my phone daily even when I didn't use it much. Unfortunately, I sat on my purse for a split second and the phone was inside, the screen broke so I couldn't see a thing. I still used the phone for another 9 months, I had to realy on the outer screen for missed calls and incoming calls. Its no longer of use to me since the charger stopped working and soon after no charger would charge the battery (I was using my sis n mom's charger when mine broke.)

I have owned this mobile for 5 months and it is terrible! The screen is very small, much more than I thought it would be! The screen keeps on going black for a few seconds and I have heard that other owners have this problem as well. The battery only lasts about a day and another annoying quality is that the phone keeps on reseting the ringtone to the awful 'hello moto' one! my dads V3 does the same thing. Anywho, I don't think I'll be buying another, at all!

I had it for almost a year. Rubbish ! Its battery is the worst I have ever had. It doesn�t last for one day if you use the poor camera. The menu is confusing. You can�t choose which memory to use (cell phone or sim card memory), so your phone book has every name in double. This was my second and it will be the LAST MOTOROLA I will ever buy. My opinion : very bad as all Motorola�s cell phones.

I love this phone. I have had it for a year and a half and it has been wonderful. The positives of the phone are that it sends and receives pictures to email addresses and other phones, you can use aim, yahoo and msn messenger all at the same time, if you download a free program and install it, you have the entire internet on your phone (which I have and use daily), you can have Music ringtones and pictures to identify your callers. I also really like the calculator feature. The negatives are that the camera is of poor quality in dark rooms, the screen is on the small side, you can't delete the original rings or pictures that come on the phone and the amount of memory the phone has is very small. I think it is a well built phone. I have dropped it MANY times and every feature still worked on it up until today when I went to charge it. The small metal pin that is used to charge it had broken off. I used this phone about 18 hours out of the day, EVERY day with all my text messaging, photo sharing, internet use and instant messaging. I can't believe it lasted me this long with so few problems. Occassionally it would shut down on it's own, but I'm sure that was due to my dropping it on hard surfaces over and over. It's too bad it broke. I am gonna miss this little guy. They are sending me a V235 to replace it. I hope it is as good to me as this phone was. The V220 is HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!!!!

This phone is rubbish! i got it about 1 1/2 yrs ago and it always freezes when i go onto personalise. It's really annoying, especially when your text messages only sometimes come through. The screen is so small, and there is enough room for a bigger one. The signal is mostly always bad. I advise you to not get this phone as you will get fed up of it almost straight away. Bad value for money. 3/10

If you're planning on buyin this phone [[DON'T]] this phone isn't nothing its worthless I live in the caribbean and i got my phone from the states since my phone got stolen and I've had this phone for only 5 DAYS and its not working anymore from when i first got the phone it turned off by itself everytime I turn it on it turns back off sometimes it stays on for like 5 minutes or so and sometimes it turns off immediately now it doesn't turn on at all I thought it was when I had it on the charger for soooo long what caused it to act up but in the hand book it says the charger doesnt do anything to the phone. I carried it to TWO cell phone shops one said it couldnt work anymore and the other says its the LCD but its $100.00 to fix it but no gaurantee I dont want to waste 100 on this crap called a phone so im getting a new one DONT PURCHASE THIS PHONE!!!

i don't understand why they made the screen so small? there's plenty of space for it vertically, they've just wasted a lot of space with a tiny tiny screen. You'd have to squint to see what's on there. This looks like one of those phones that people wouldn't steal even if you left it out in the open.

i have had my phone for over a year and a half... it is a POS my camera doesnt work anymore, it turns of by itself sometimes, doesnt turn on only when it wants to, i dont recieve incoming calls it goes striaght to voicemail. No one can call my cell from my job it doesnt go through it says its not in service, i never have a signal, i get dropped calls all the time and my husband has the same service i do and he always has a full signal gets all calls, my txt messages dont send most of the time its rediculous

the phone is the WORST PHONE EVER. after id had mine for 3 days it started crashing so i had to get a new one.....eventually (after about a year) the camera (crap though it was) stopped working and it crashed the entire time. now (about a year and 2 months later) i turn it on an it imediately turns off and refuses to do anything. it doesn't last...and after a while when plugged into the charger it does not charge without physically holding it in place. DO NOT GET IT!

This phone is tha best phone I or anyone has or could have. I got mine about a week ago and has encountered nothing but happiness and success with. The camera isnt tha best but it is good 4 tha price of tha phone. Some of tha pictures I take r even so good that i post them on my myspace and they come out great! None of my calls ever drop and the speaker phone is crystal clear and despite it's size it is very durable. I give this phone a 10 out of 10 and would truly vouch 4 it. If u want a cool and cheap phone purchase this one. Peace Eazy!

the phone is rubbish. i had it for about a year and three problems cropped up after about 7 months. 1. the phone refused to respond when i was trying to top-up the phone. 2. the camera eventually broke after a few months of quality deterioration. 3. the phone wouldn't notify me if I had a call after 7 months. I wouldn't advise you to get this phone at all.

This phone is horrible, small screen, i never noticed how horrible the screen was until i used a v400 for a long period of time. The camera stopped working, the phone locked periodcally on it's on, it defiently wasn't worth the 70 bucks i spent on it. All I needed was a basic phone, no extras so I gave this phone a try. I've had it for almost 2 years now. This phone is now very outdated. I'm upgrading to a different model/make. Volume output fo V220 is horrible. It is hard to hear the phne in normal public areas, almost impossible in public noisey areas. This is fact which is also supported on other review websites.

on the menu of "multimedia", then "videos", then press the menu liney buttonny thingy, and go to "categories" it will say one called made, so i thought you could make them, however when you click empty, it does not take you anywhere to record :-(

This is the WORST phone you could possibly buy! it is a total POS! The camera stops working after a month, the screen shuts off, the led backlight burns out, the buttons get stuck, the screen gets scratched bad by the buttons when closed, and the over-all casing gets scratched. The battry dies very fast, some times it doest charge, and the worst of all it decides when it wants to turn on and turn off. (the phone will magically turn itself on, and it will magically turn itself off. DON'T WASTE YOUR MONEY ON IT!!!

ive heard motorola have bad software problems, and my v220 was no exception. i had been told to not get motorola's...well i dont plan on getting another. my fone started playing up early on, i haven't even had it a year and the camera doesn't work, the personalise menu doesn't work and the battery is losing its charge quicker, even though it hasnt had exceeding amounts of use.it scratches easy. some people have said that it has bluetooth, but mine doesn't, it must be an older edition. MOTOROLA'S STINK. So many friends and family have had sucky fones because they were motorola brand. however it still messages (even though it only gives 450 letters instead of 480 and charges you for 3 messages!! thats like 30 letters, it'd make a huge difference if we got them. The good thing about this particular fone is that you can program the soft keys, and create shortcuts to some things. and it still makes and receives calls, although it is deteriorating quality on my end, and maybe the other. Thanks to KC who said you CAN voice record, if only i had this info sooner, i could have made some good 20 sec ringtones. my back cover is loose now, even though it hasn't been dropped extensively. and it only has one prerecorded video, and you cant make your own

I used one of these for maybe 4 months and all I can say is that its a great phone! The one that I have is an older AT&T phone that I unlocked and used with cingular. It has been very durable; I tend to drop things alot. My only 2 complaints are: camera doesn't work all the time (probably due to my abuse), and the signal reception isn't the greatest... but not too bad.

i had this fone 4 about a month when it started playing up, it wouldn't let me in the personalise menu, and i somehow deleted my games, there was some fluff or something in the outside screen. it scratches easy. you can only have around 60 messages, and 100 photos, but the camera sucks. no infrared. the good thing is you can program (one by one) your contacts to sim or phone, if they are on fone, you can have a pic of the person, but only comes up if set to push answer or any button to answer (instead of just opening it)and the outside screen lets you know who is calling, or if you have a msg. you can program contacts stored in phone to voice dial. the outside buttons let you change between loud, soft, silent, vibrate, vibrate then ring. didn't like how the vibrator sucks. you can change so msg vibrate and calls ring. and if u miss a msg, it can be set so it vibrate or beep or none till u realise. lately my camera stopped working. messaging is easy but can be annoying. overall i hate my fone because it has botchy software, and failed to work fully. also the manual sucks, it has like zilch info in it, and you have to go online if there is a problem, so u can get some numbers to call. thats about it i guess. i thought it was a sucky investment. however i may be unlucky, coz some reviews sound ok.

Ok i've had this phone since July 25th last year, and so far it messed up 3 times. and the guarantee is for 2 years. so one more time it breaks i get ma money back! the camera had a problem before, but it was always a different reason. once it was cuz the screen on the front just pertended it was opening and closing so if someone would call me it would end the call before i TOUCH the phone.. well its just really messed up and annoying. first i was in love with it cuz i had a sucky siemens but now i dont like this phone. i want Nokia 6101 cuz it has everything a good phone needs (for me): Infrered, flip phone, CAMERA, screen on front, and thats about it. OH and its not that expensive!!! its $220 american!!

built to last me ass!!! :D Nokia has a very nice enviroment and thats what they have above motorola, motorola WAS built to last, in fact they were the ones that you would buy if you wanted a phone that could stand anything. Personally if i wanted to buy a phone that lasts I would buy either Sony Ericsson or Samsung.. but like i said, thats my personal opinion these days and i've had 1x Motorola, several Nokias' and Im using a Sony Ericsson now :)

i found out how to record things first you go into messages and go to new message. then new multimedia msg. then goto insert and then go down to voice record and then it well tell you to press and hold the voice key and that key is on the right side on the side on your phone press it and keep on holding it and it well start recording the sound that you want to put on your phone!!!!!!!!

this phone is great at first but hte camera is very fuzzy u can barely tell what the pitcture is. if you like the voice ringtones don't expect to get to many bbc it has very little memory. and after a while it will randomly cut off. like the phone in a mis text message will cut off and u have to turn it back on and everyting you were wroking on is gone. and there is a static noise when you are talking on it.

not a bad phone, really. i bought it in bangkok (i'm from india) somewhere in oct '04, i think, for around 8,500 baht (at that time, around $210). read some bad reviews - specifically about voice quality, screen quality and all that. but honestly, it's a damn good phone. very well made... i've thrown it against walls quite a few times (anger against something else!) and it's survived each round. right now, i've lost the antenna, but am able to use it without any problem at all. it was out of circulation for the last 2 months as i bought a new phone to test, and i plugged in a sim card today and the battery's as good as new. yes, the camera is pathetic, screen display is horrible, and audio quality is un-ratable and all that, but hey! it works, and works well. ofc, there are a thousand better options out there, but i like this cute little phone. btw, this is the tenth handset i've purchased over the years (and i'm now on my 12th), and is the first camera phone i bought. so, i know what i'm talking about.

Worse phone in phone history. Ruined reputation of Motorola, I'll never buy another Motorola. Had it a year ago, after 2 months, camera died, after another 3 months, it wouldnt turn on. Plugged the charger in and a light comes on and that's it, doesnt start up, just light. Works as a flashlight now. A total life time of 5 months, inwhich I never dropped.

This phone is alriteish, well a bit below Id give it 4/10. Good points: Cool games,voice recorder is clear, Pretty, clear messages Bad points: Screen goes blank very often, iv noticed it wasnt just me with this problem my sister had the same problem and many other people, bad display, very bad camera Now i hav the Motorola V620 and even though the camera is supposedly the same it works miles better.I think that it because the V620 has a 265K screen. yeah the Motorola V220 is cheap but what is the point of paying less when it is a very unreliable phone, prone to fizzling out and the screen going blank I would advise people against this phone completely!

You need the usb that comes with the phone and the cd and they transfer on the computer easy.. Im not happy with this phone as my camera is not working on it and has to be sent back for repair.

It looks good and I prefer it to other Motorola phones like the V500 as it is smaller and more attractive. But many of my friends have this phone and it appears to have some reliability issues, like the camera stops working and the speaker stops working - I used to have the V525 and the speaker stopped working in this too.

the phone's features are excellent, i know...however no-one really comments about the external screen...I find it to be one of the coolest things about the phone. Whenever something happens, eg. calendar event, missed calls etc., it pops up on the screen, right? Well, using the side buttons (press the ok button first, then scroll), you can actually access this information without opening your phone, eg. a calendar reminder, or a list of calls you missed. Quite fascinating really! Try it yourself!

I bought this phone last year in August and it just started giving me problems. I had a warranty but it was over a couple months ago. The front screen would work but when I open it up I would just see my background screen but no menu and when I get an incoming call it would not let me pick it up. Also occasionally when my phone did work, if i picked up an incoming call I would just hear static.....

To Mike, You can change the contrast of the display in the settings. I prefer it on 4 (1 above default), the default is a bit weak coloured. To Sarah, You need not only the USB connector, but the software as well - it's called MobilePhoneTools, and you should've got it with the phone. If you didn't, you should be able to buy the CD individually somewhere, at a shop or online.

my main gripe with this phone is its internal display has crappy contrast, making the camera virtually unusable. if you really love cameraphones, get a phone with something better than a CSTN display screen. otherwise, I LOVE that it uses a mini USB jack for data transfers (didn't need to buy a cable), so I make my own ringtones in mp3 and the little speaker on the back sounds great.

v220 can't record video unfortunately. however, it can play videos you transfer from pc or receive from friends via mms. to transfer pics you need the MobilePhoneTools CD, which in Australia came with the phone. You might be able to buy it separately in retail stores, or on Ebay? PS to those who use 'screen broke twice in a year' as a complaint of the phone's weakness, why don't you just TRY keeping the thing safe?!! unless of course you were referring to the external screen, which would be a valid comment.

Yes, you can attach as many memos as you wish on the same day, and you can choose whether or not to have a reminder. (HELPFUL TIP: when you get an event while the phone is closed, if you press the smart key on the side, the message will pop up on the external screen. Quite handy!) 3. I'm not too sure. The sim can hold AT LEAST 500 I think (anyone, please correct me if i'm wrong) 4. The Fields of entry are pretty dumb. Basically, it's one number per entry, full stop. THIS PHONE IS CRAP!!!!! I am on my second one. The microphone is junk. The screen goes white and then i have to open and close it. When I get incoming calls, I can hear them but they can not hear me so I have to take out the batterey. I called Cingular and they told me that i needed to turn the phone off for at least 30 seconds every nite and it would fix the problem. Guess what it doesn't..SO I bought another phone....

glad to see a few enthusiasts for the phone...you won't be disappointed! Let me clear up some things for people wanting to buy the phone: it HAS voice dial (max. 5 people, actually). it DOES NOT have voice memo or voice command. HOWEVER, if you are desperate to get something recorded on your phone there IS a way: using the mms feature WITHOUT sending the message. here's how it works: Go to MESSAGES => NEW MESSAGE => NEW MULTIMEDIA MESSAGE. Press INSERT, go to VOICE RECORD. Record what you want, remembering to press AND HOLD DOWN the voice button (the one on the right side). When done, release voice button, and press DONE. Tick any person on your phone list: you won't be sending it anyway. Check at least one, then press DONE. When you get to the screen with the lines to fill in (msg;subject;attachments etc), DO NOT press the center or right SEND button. Press the MENU button (the funny moto one), and select SAVE AS DRAFT. Now your record is saved. I know it's tedious and quite trivial, but if you're desperate, then it works. ONE CATCH: you can only record 20 seconds per message. if it's longer you'll need to continue it on another new message :-) PS If anyone knows a faster way can they please tell me on this site? ;-)

u can have about 30-50 photos at a time at vga resolution. and you can have quite a few mp3 ringtones too, provided they're not cd tracks that go for ages...they won't fit :-)

this is a review from a teenager, first-time budget mobile buyer who's had the phone for a week: Style: 10/10 Absolutely love it! Nice silver coating and bluish-black front screen panel. Keypad is standard, with scroll keys and voice key on the sides. Camera is smack bang in the middle: looks quite good, though that's an individual opinion. Features: 10/10 Hey, it's AUS$199! That's a good price for a phone with camera, mp3 ringtones, organizer, etc. and the animated menu looks very nice. Screen/Camera quality: 9/10 The screen may look small, but when you're using it you'll notice it's not that bad. i had doubts before purchasing it, but i'm fine now. unless you're a big multimedia person, it's enough. The VGA camera is decent, and the pictures look good on the computer and on the phone. Just note that digital zoom takes exactly the same size picture, but the area you've selected gets expanded, thus the resolution lower, and not as good quality. I don't know whether that's the same for every phone, but i'm sure digital zoom's like that. BOTTOM LINE: just don't zoom, pictures look great without it. User-friendly: 9.5/10 Some find motorola phone menus confusing, some find 'em a sinch. The truth is, everything's completely accessible, just READ THE MANUAL, that's what it was for! OVERALL: 9.5/10 A complete phone, highly successful, recommended for a budget user who wants an extraordinary experience out of their phone. Congrats Motorola! To all those dopes who couldn't find the voice key: Well, to be honest, it took me a while to find it too. It's on the right hand side (the side button with the circle thing and sound rays...see it?) And make sure you press AND release it before speaking a voice tag.

THe camera is GREAT, true storage is limited but don't forget that you can upload them onto your pc! yay! Some people think the screens too small but to be honest when your reading your messages, looking as pics etc u don't notice it, besides its bigger than the one I had before It's a tough little fone, I work around horses- 24/7- and i've had dirt and little bits of gravel squeeze itself between the flip bit of the fone at the top when its closed so that when I open it up it all falls out!!!! So grose but it's only got one tiny little scratch on the silverwork!!!! How tough is that!? Sound quality is awsome and I LOVE the fone. Take it from me if your thinking about buying this fone but have you doubts about it well I have to say "just go and buy it it's the best investment you'll ever make" I paid $199 and although it was all of my birthday money it was definatly worth it.

Hi all, I've just saved up enough to buy this fone. I've been looking around for ages and finally decided on this one. I've heard about the small screen- but no worried, still bigger than the one i've got now. Overall I think this fone is a good buy but I'm still a little iffy about a few things... What can I do!!! I bought a V220 and after activating my MMS's and Browser Setup(MTN Network). I was unable to make use of these futures and was told by a Motorola Consultant the phone had a software related problem(even though it was brand new)!! Second One(another V220) i took out on Vodacom Contract. Same problem Plus the phone froze and i was unable to use the keypad!!! Took the phone back to my service provider,was given a brand new phone(same model-V220)and atleast this time i can receive and send MMS's, but no internet browsing, no downloading of ringtones!!! To sum up: 3 brand new Motorola V220 all with the same problem!! And Motorola cannot give me an answer as to why?They cannot even tell me what the Error message means!!!!! What can i do? THE PHONE . . . its 128x128 medium display looks great and is clear, though if you want a higher resolution, there are phones available with 128x160 or better. Especially if you are a multimedia head. For me, it�s perfect. There are two hot pre-programmed buttons on the outside, including the dedicated camera shutter button. You can adjust the volume of the earpiece on the outside of the phone with the up and down arrow keys, right above the camera hot button. COSMETIC DETAILS . . . mostly plastic parts, but sturdy for the most part. Yes, it creaks when you open it, but so does my car door, but the vehicle�s performance is not hindered (lol). It still works. I�m not concerned about a cosmetic issue that doesn�t effect the usability of my phone. I haven�t or have any intentions of abusing my phone, so I couldn�t tell you about how it handles scratches. I keep mine in a protective slip case with a belt clip. So far, no scratches. If you don�t want your phone scratched, you just have to protect it and be careful. If something does happen, there are products available to repair any cosmetic issues. OS . . . I like the icons, the organization, and animations of the system. You also have the option to change your menu, hide your icons, and much more. It�s totally customizable. AUDIO . . . I can feel the vibration through my beltclip. I had the radio in my Cadillac turned up (as usual) and did not hear my ringer and jumped the first time I felt it vibrate. So, it�s powerful. If it�s in your pocket, you�ll definitely know if someone is trying to get your attention. Especially if you�re at the clubs and need to find one of your friends. Gotta love text messaging. The ringer is loud enough. I can understand and bounce to the beat of my music tones whenever someone calls. There is obviously a level at which you may not hear it. That�s just how it is. Certain sound effects and music tones will be louder than others. Not all audio files are sampled at the same rate, which can also make a difference. If you get crappy, cheap audio tones (like from most free sites) you don�t have to question why you can�t hear them. FEATURES . . . absolutely feature rich. You can do just about anything with this phone. You can take pictures, download all types of multimedia, surf the web, send multimedia or simple text messages, set multiple alarms, add dates to your calendar (which has many options in itself), and so much more! CONS . . . if you like the phone, but wanted to add space to hold your ringtones and pictures, that would be a major problem. You can�t expand the space, so you would have to constantly transfer your images to your computer to free up space for future ringtones and/or pictures. You can have a small library of ringtones and other audio. The space is also shared with any messages you choose to save and for anything you do on the web. So, you�ll need to clean out your cache and history from time to time, if you use the web on your phone often. With all these features, 1.8 MB of space just isn�t quite enough. If you want space, get a phone with bluetooth technology. They have phones with space starting at 5MB on up to 64MB and larger. ISSUES WITH MOST CELLULAR PHONES On some phones, screens are supposed to go �black� or simply shut off the backlit display after the set delay. If you do not want the screen to go �black� you can turn the delay off, but this will run the battery down as it will not shut off when the phone is closed (not with my test, anyway) and the option effects the outside display too. This will absolutely shorten the life of the battery. If you are constantly doing something on the phone, it should not turn �black�. If you�re talking on the phone, there really isn�t a good reason to have the backlit display on in the first place after you�ve placed your call. A suggestion is to buy a premium, higher capacity LI-ION battery to support this feature. // if you have further problems with your phone, please send me an e-mail. I will be glad to help you. //If you just bought your phone and have been trying to send text messages or get online, it will be between 3 and 5 full days before all of your features will be activated. When you get a voicemail, that is when all your features are available. You can then setup your voicemail and surf the web as you please. None of my calls have ever dropped, I don't sound like I'm in a well, I have 5 bars 94% of the time, and my camera never froze on me while taking a series of pictures. Thanks!

someone was helpful when i asked about the charging question and this is what they said: its normal. if your profile had have stayed on either 'vibrate and ring' or 'vibrate', it would damage your charger. if you change your profile to either 'soft' or 'silent', you will notice that it doesn't switch to 'loud'.

This phone sucks. I have had 3 Nokia's over the past five years and they all worked flawlessly. I bought this phone in October and in December the screen cracked and it took Motorola a month to send a replacement. Then in March I sent it back due to a creak from the hing. Now it's May and it won't power on. So that makes 3 replacements in 7 months. Steer clear from this piece of sh*t.

!Do not get this phone! My third phone is in the mail via the exchange program from Cingular. The first time the main screen went blank. This time the ear piece stopped working. I have not dropped either phone. I also know of three other people who are on their second phone. BTW: if you have to get an exchange through Cingular, your warranty does not start over. After a year from reciept of your original phone you are out of warranty!

I've had this phone for about 6 months now. It has worked great until a few weeks ago. I don't know what happened, but all of a sudden I can't send anything outgoing. I can't call people, or send text messages. When i dial a number and press send, the phone just goes back to the main screen. The weird thing is, I can recieve calls perfectly.

For Aqueel: I'e had a problem just like yours. The only solution is to take your phone back to your dealer and ask them to reinstal the software. Unless you are able to do that yourself :)

Hi I got a motorola V220. It worked just fine a couple of days after unlocking. But after that whenever i tried to go into the personalize option, the screen went black. The other options are working fine. Can any1 help?

Anyone looking for the Transfer Tools software to connect to your PC should try eBay. You can buy the usb cable and software together for around �5-�8. I bought mine off eBay and have no problems at all with both Win98SE and WinXP.

I have been using this phone for 6 weeks and these are my thoughts. The camera quality is as good as most other 300k cameras when the pictures are transfered to PC, and are on a par with my k700i. The CSTN screen is adequate but obviously not as good as TFT. The reception is very good even with a micro aerial. The ring quality is good but the volume of some of the poly tones can be slightly low and the vibration is not very strong. The speakerphone quality can sometimes be very poor. The interface is easy and straight-forward to navigate. SMS messages can be tricky to write until you get used to it. Battery life is average. Memory is not expandable and can only store around 25-30 full size pictures. Overall I think this phone is a very good buy especially at the price (I paid �49.99 from Virgin Mobile).

Seems as though Motorola does not want anyone to be aboe to transfer pictures from this phone to their computers. Everyone that I know with this phone is looking for the drivers for it and no one yet has said that they have been able to find them. I am VERY dissapointed in it becuase other than that I have nto complaits a nice phone.

I've had the phone for a month or two - dropped it a few times on hardwood floors - no prob, it still seems to be "motorola" tough anyhow (in my experience), but kinda cheap in that its a lot of plastic instead of metal. oh well. for 60 or 70 bucks, (forget, there was a rebate too) i guess I cant complain considering i live in a very hilly area with a lot of mountain ranges and the reception used to totally stink before gsm. the camera is kinda lame, but oh well. google around the net, get Mobile Phone Tools software and other goodies out there, and then you can download nice free java games and cool pics to you 'puter and then upload to the phone (tricky, but simple once you figure it out - search for mobile phone tools v220 :-) jamie

This phone is cheap! I got it a few months ago and its already broken. For some reason I cant see the screen. Ever since I got it i took good care of it and never dropped or messed it up to make the screen go blank. I can receive calls but dont know who is calling...the outside screen doesnt seem to work either. When it did work, everytime i had it on speaker i would get an annoying buzz that I and the person Im talking to can hear. And when i close the phone, i guess there is a spring in it because it feels like theres one. The camera isnt the best. If you're near light then you'll get clear photos. but in the dark and in dim lighting dont even bother. The limited memory allows me to store a few photos and names. The phone looks like a toy and the screen is tiny, and the game i had on it totally disappeared. The only thing i like about this phone is that the voice ringtones play awesome on this phone but other than that its cheap. I got this for free. If i had to buy this phone, then that would have been a big regret.

jozette, yes you can. The one drawback is that they mus be stored in your phone, not your sim card. Scroll to the address book entry. Hit the "edit" softkey. change the option "store to:" and change it to "Phone". Once you do this, there's an option below that to assign a "ringer ID". That's the customizable ringtone.

I have boughten a faceplate and I have gotten the back on without a problem and I have gotten the faceplate off, but my face plate still doesn't fit because of the blue/black plate that I can't get off. Is there a way I can get this off? Or how would I get the flaceplate on? It won't snap down on the top over the blue plate. and its a full face plate. Thanks

I just got the v220 basically for the speakerphone and I needed to upgrade to a gsm phone, finally. Unfortunately unless you hold the phone w/i a foot of your ear you can't hear it. Also the vibe is so slight unless it's pushed up against your body you don't feel or notice it. This was another feature I needed. My Nokia 3360 had a strong vibrating alert and the ring volume was much stronger so I could here that better too. I only found one ringtone that I can hear decent enough when theres alot of background noise around. I'm planning on returning this phone and going back to my old one and old plan unless I can find a phone that's better for me. Stronger vibrate alert and speakerphone that's hearable.

I recieved this phone 2 days ago and I am quite impressed, you need software to connect it to your PC, try the afterdawn.com forums. I admit the camera isn't amazing but this is quite an upgrade from my nokia 3390

I love this phone to death. It works so well with Motorola's MPT software, and I can fit more ringtones and graphics then I can imagine i could on my old v180. I have had the phone since christmas and have found that it is one of the best phones i have ever had. Some people say that the screen is too small for a camera, but it is a phone after all. You want a good picture for the shot, buy a camera. I have seen from this site that the motorola v220 has been classed as old. I think this is totally wrong because if you look at a new phone for example the o2 x2, you will notice that almost everything the v220 has matches or is better than the x2. I love using the phone and has provided cool gadgets and high quality pictures for me. It has been extremely reliable every day and i have had no problem at all with it. I can't see what people see wrong with it as it is a brilliant phone.

This is genuinly the worst phone i have ever had in my life. It is a very nice looking phone from the outside. Smart looking and it also feels nice in your hand. However, when you open the flip, you will be upset. The screen size is not as big as the average camera phones are now, and it has a poor picture quality. I had this phone for 3 days and the camera stopped working. So i took it back and got a refund, then brought a V80 which i am immensly happy with. If i was you, i would steer well clear from the V220 unless you want a granny's phone. I would prefer to have a Nokia 3310 than this phone. Infact, i used my brothers for the next week whilst i was waiting for a chance to take the pile of **** back. I really was dissapointed with this phone. Looks nice from the outside but is a big letdown.

I had a t720 and my guarantee replace with the V220, I was so excited to receive it, but in the mean time someone gave me a new e316 samsung fully equiped, damn this is the bomb, week later i receive the V220 and believe it or not i wasnt happy with that, If u compare the e316 with v220, its a big difference! The V220 have a tiny screen , Why so little? as some of u mention, the batterie cover or the usb cover doesnt stick on it and the cheap quality of the box ( real plastic for toys) are put to assemble the phone! Motorola is playing with us! This phone cost 319.00 CND and the Samsung e316 399.00 CND just but 80$ more and u will have a better phone! I'm disappointed for the V220. Motorola you can do better than that!

I bought 2 camera phone at the same time, a nokia 3220, and of course the motorola v220. Th enokia is about the same price, they are both free heer with contract. The Nokia is definately a supirrior phone, id say the most advanced cellphone ive ever seeen in my life. T epicture quality is far better, takes movies with sound. has amazing ringtones and it lights up on 2 places on each sisde when it rings or any otehr message in tune with the ringtone, i have the motorola and the one advantage i do give the v220 is that it has better recxeption, but that is not usualyy an issue. Just wanted to givemy honest opinion, ladies and gentelmen if you have a choice betwen nokia 330 or motorolla v220, save yourself the grief buy the nokia. (i have been converted to nokia over this phone)

I have the V300 and now I received the V220 because I switched companies. I also agree, that the camera on the V220 sucks. that's the first flaw that i noticed. design-wise i like the v300 better and it has a bigger display screen. i will probably have my v300 unlocked and use that one rather than my v220. overall, the v220 does seem like an okay phone though.

well i have had loads of phones and my verdict is this is one of the worst. i have had 5 camera phones, inc. samsung E800 slide (the best) and this was the worst. however wot d u expect 4 the price?? had it not even 1 day and it was flashing on+off, this phone is cheap, poor quality although it may look nice at first. its a toy phone.

WOW WHAT A PHONE!!! I had a v600 and i stole my ex's v220 and cot damn what a phone! The small fuzzy screen and bad sound quality are everything you would expect from a high end model like this! Forget the v600! sure, the v6 has bluetooth, but who needs that anyways? as long as I have my demo version of bejeweled i'm happy. YaY Motorola!!! This is a desposable phone...literally.

I think this is a great phone, but it comes with NOTHING!!!! If you want extra ring tones, extra games, etc., you have to buy it! The ring tones it comes with are cheesy at best. My real old Nokia phone came with better ring tones! It doesn't come with any games but a demo version of bejewelled. If you use the "shop for..." links for anything on your phone, you are charged a connection fee per kilobyte of information transferred, not to mention anything you have to buy. I am disappointed in the value of this phone. If I knew better before I signed a contract, I would have tried a different phone.

I have a motorola v220 for 6 months and i too can only hear the caller speaking when i use the speakerphone. I returned it to my network agent and he said this is a common problem with this model.

I've got this problem and was wondering if anyone else had it also, I've had it for less than a month and it just messed up, I cant hear anything out of the phone unless I put it on speakerphone. This phone sucks the screen is so small and its such bad quality. The camera is always fuzzy and its not clear to begin with. The front part of the telephone gets scartched within the first 5 minutes. I truly recommend you not buying this phone because if my parents let me buy a new one soon, I'd slam dung it into the garbage can. I rest my case.

Um has anyone figured out the software thing? No one actually posted the answer. I have the USB cord (didn't actually need to buy one, my camera wire fit the phone too!) But I cannot do anything without the software for my computer to make it work. The phone is not that bad. I am disappointed in the lack of rings it comes with and 2.50/ring is WAY TOO EXPENSIVE. I mean I can buy a whole song on line for 99 cents. I just think motorola makes everything too expensive (all the extras like the cases and stuff). The camera is not the best, but it is better than some of the others I have seen.

Well I can say the Spanish site (as some ppl called it) sure helped me to get my V220 kickin. Actually it was some tough work with my registry editor but I managed. I must say thanks to DEN who started the post of the Spanish site. Anyhow, what u need to find is the manual (maual_eng) located in your folder (P2Kman\docs), open the manual, find the topic (installation>>>if u use MS Windows XP) follow the instructions. TROUBLING YOUR REG EDITOR COULD BE RISKY, so don’t blame the manual if u do nonsense. I have had mine for about three months now . Useing Cingular. I dont like the phone, its programming and the fact Motorola wants 30 bucks for drivers and software to connect it to my PC. You can not lock out the keyboard - big problem with a small child around!. If you are not careful you accidentally open the brower and Cingular Jambs you fee $$. THere is no way to lock it out??? I want my Nokia back!!!

BAD PHONE! DON'T BUY!! I had this phone for less than a week before the plastic face was scratched (it scratches very easily), and as far as cameras go, its one of the worst. Even the guy in the cingular store told me he wouldn't recommend this phone to anyone, As i was RETURNING it, for the second time. The ringtones and mix features are nice, and its very simple to use, but the screen is small, and the speaker phone tends to buzz. It has some nice features that are fun to play with, and allows you to personalize it which I like. Overall however, I've been through more problems with this phone than my old Nokia 3560. Not worth it.

i cell phones 'n the v220 is probably the most inexpensive, least complicated camera phone out there for ppl that want to upgrade from a older about 1-2 yrs old phne. however i guarantee its price to drop dramatically within a year. people that want to change the faceplates. just be advised that the golden rule is, if you CANT take the faceplate off on your own, without removing screws or glue, then its not meant to be taken off. actually the only flip phones that you're allowed to change the faceplates on are the moto t720's. all other phones on the market now, if you change the faceplate you VOID your manufacturer's warranty. if you buy a phone, be advised that there IS a 30 minute OR 30 day exchange period. WHATEVER comes FIRST!!! that varies from store to store. the reason is just because nobody would want a phone that has been used for lets say 100 minutes. one would rather just get a brand new one, and its very hard selling them then. any questions about this phone feel free to email me.

I got my v220 for about 5 months now, and i think its great. It's small, light, and it's cute! However, a few disappointments are the camera sucks compare to my brother's v300; the screen freezes when I read my SMS msges; it viberates out of no where; and there're no other faceplate that I can replace the original one with.

I just bought the V220 and I think it's a great phone, especially for those who don't need too much extra features. Compared to my E398, it's much faster. I prefer smsing with the V220 to the E398 because there isn't any lag-time at all for V220. It's fast! And, it's cheap. It ain't exactly the most tech savvy phone on the market. But then again, it's a phone, not a camera. Or a mp3 player. So I lurve it for a simple phone. Worth your bucks.

the v220 is an ok phone. its ok because its good for not so tech saavy people, the v600 and v551 would be over these people's heads, so the v220 is there for people that just want a camera phone, people that might have formerly been using a nokia 3390 or something very low end and crappy.oh yah and to dan taylor, bitter man that posted something on 11.4.04, that 30 minutes of use crap, who did you hear that from? I work with phone and with us it doesn't matter how much airtime you have on it, as long as you are within your 30 day exchange period, and the phone itself has a one year MANUFACTURER'S warranty, not 30 day... please don't confuse warranty with exchange period. I've had my V220 for 2 months now and its a pretty good phone. The only downside to it is the camera is horrible, compared to my moms V400. I like the smallness of this phone. The only problem I have had with mine is the center keypad is loose. Has anyone else had this problem? It's still under warranty, so I think I'm going to send it in.

Your MP3 rintones should automatically go to your sound folder. Go to that and then press the top center button on your mp3 file and select apply as ringtone.

Seems like simply a defective Unit.Exchange for another? I have not have had any of the same issues with mine anyhow. Menus are responsive. I have had the phone for about a month now, and I'm taking it back today. After owning the phone for about a week, certain menus wouldn't respond. i just got the v220 and v300 because the v600 was out of stock. Having both phones for 2 weeks so far, I find the v220 is designed better (newer I guess), smaller (lighter) and has a better speaker phone (more bass for music). The keypad also looks better with the blue lights around the menue key. Even though the V300 is more bulky and harder to read the outside disply (dark/blue), I prefer it because the screen is so much bigger and more clear. 5mb of memory too. Those are the only difference.

Just got the phone. It will serve our needs with the nice features thrown in as a bonus. Call quality and sound has been good. Not using the camera at all. Negative so far is that the speakerphone produces a buzzing sound that annoys everyone. Checking with Motorola on this.

Alas, I too want to be able to download PICs from my V220 directly to my PC using the mini-USB connection, but the manual makes no mention of the USB port or of directly downloading the PICs; sounds like a conspiracy to increase cellular usage to me!

I have found a solution and Have a Working driver, And i can Connect my Laptop and dial up as a modem, load ringtones, Pics ETC no Problem! Been Happy with it Ever Since! After reading some of the critical reviews of this phone here and in magazines after I had bought it online I was dreading getting the phone as I have very big hands. Instead of that I am very happy with my new funky phone. The picture quality isn't great but is good enough for a phone for that price! I read in a magazine that is very small and not suitable for people with big hands. Well I have never met anyone with bigger hands than me and I think this phone suits me better than any other phone i've had as the buttons are fairly wide apart. It was also a nice suprise to find out that Motorola's now have predictive text! The phone has got a nice sleek look.. Abit plastic/cheap alright but you get what you pay for. The phone has all the functions you could ask for and its easy to use. One very satisfied Irish customer here! My next phone will also be Motorola!

WARNING! DO NOT BUY THIS PHONE! Your Motorola phone is defective. The screen will go dead within the first 1 - 6 months, and you will be stuck with it. Motorola phones with display are absolutely garbage, and the record speaks for itself. Check it out on Google. Search for "Motorola screen problems" and you will be overwhelmed with hits. My own V220 expired in 22 days. The manufacturer has a 30 day warranty. But guess what? You didn't read the fine print. 'OR 30 MINUTES'. That's right. If you use your phone for more than 30 minutes, you are going to own this dead phone. Hey Elliot, I know what you mean with the short ring time However I don't think it's any model phone Specific that causes this, It's the Carrier that sets this that When someone calls that the Voicemail picks up automatically after a certain amount of time. I know there isn't any way to set this within the phone or any phone. You may try to call your Customer Service and see if they can modify your ring time? It's worth a try, Best regards, Dennis

Has anyone found the time of ringing to be ridiculously short on the V220? It rings for about 11-12 seconds and then hangs up. That is often not enough time to pick it up. Does anyone know of a way to make it ring longer? Thanks, Elliot

Yes! Thanks DEN, I have just seen my phone files on the PC. With a USB cable from an other camera, the spanish site (http://motorolac.wz.cz/?str=download) you send me to, and the file P2K_driver_2.3 that I used to direct the installation program to all the drivers I needed in that file. I can say after 10 days searching... now it works... you are genious :) You can e-mail me, thanks again :)

I've had this Phone for a few weeks and been hearing various complaints about the Software for the USB connection and USB Cover doesn't stay in well Etc THE USB Rubber Plug doesn't just push in with your thumb that easily but if you Push it in Firmly with your thumb nail in the center it will Securely push in and Seal it well and it hasn't come loose at all and seals out dirt very well considering it's not being used but once in a while to upload pics ETC But you just have to try to understand the right way to do it and it's fine.. It is very light and Very Small with So far great battery life and reception. I've also been reading on software for the USB. I have used a standard Digital camera USB cable that comes with many types of digital cameras you would have to check the plug to see if it fits the plug on the phone otherwise have to buy on E-bay ETC.. I have found that the Motorola Phone tools not available except for a crazy price not worth it for a driver but the "P2Kman" software Did the trick and is free just you have to mess with it to figure it out and took me a few tries but I was able to Upload my PICS and load Ringtones no problem but not many Other features but does the job. I have downloaded it from some Spanish site you just download PK2MAN here: The ringtone sound quality so far is very impressive by far to many phones i have tried, It seems to have a type of Bass Shaker within the phone that you can feel the ringtones as it vibrates the phone as it plays Really Cool! love it you can feel the phone even if you can't hear it!! The Screen isn't as bad as I been hearing yea the color isn't as good as many phones but you can tweak the contrast and it's decent otherwise, However it could have been a little bigger though.. Camera what do you expect VGA? Well, not the best then again it's a Phone and a Plus to have it in the first place the PICS are small but do the trick. The speaker phone sometimes creates a slight Buzz within it's self with interference, not bad really otherwise very Clear and a great feature! My One and only Main Complaint is that you can't Display the Date Next to the time on Inside or outside LCD you can navigate to the calendar to see it but not any other settings to do this? I sure hope that Motorola at lease will have a Firmware update released for this to fix it? Even if I have to open the phone to View the date it would be a huge improvement! Overall this is an Awesome Entry level camera phone that you have to get used to before you review and then it may be a little different story. Den

After a while havin' the Motorola's V220 have found that it actually is a good phone. I used to be owner of most of the Nokias that came with Cingular, but it seems that the quality of them(Nokia) are not the same as with Motorola's Brand Cell Phones. Even the V220 its small but it pack a strong signal all around even inside the old building that I work even going up or down the elevators it has a strong and clear signal. But theres always a but: Cingular or any other independent supplyer of parts and accesories doesn't have much to offer for the v220. And its almost imposible to find the Software that may recognice the v220 on WinXP.

I managed to get all the software from the website given and update it and everything but it just doesnt recognise the phone. Its obviously not compatible yet. I wouldnt bother postin askin about it no more people lol just post if u know when the software is gonna be available. I think u can buy the software im not sure but its over priced. As for the ringtones i have managed to download to mp3 type tones but they are short and bit a crap but then it is a cheap phone. I am used to the phone now and its much easier to use. The cam aint that bad but the thing that annoys me the most is that i miss calls alot coz i can rarely here it goin off in my pocket unless im in a quiet place.

Just got the phone yesterday and am still having problems figuring out the menus. There are so many sub-menus and the like that is is tough to remember where I saw where to change my ringtones! Also, the manual is totally useless. It is really hard to find where anything is because nothing is where it should be. So it is learn as you go with this phone. I do love the camera though and I like that I can make my pics wallpaper or screensaver. The battery is terrible. My phone goes dead very easily then it takes hours to charge it up again.

Motorola does it again. Puts a product on the market before support items are available. No software available for the PC to Phone upload/ download! I like the product but find it a liability if you have an extensive phone directory list. If the phone goes up so does my directory list. No back-up capability. Can't save my directory to my PC, can't do direct picture downloads to the PC, can't get PC download ring tones, etc. No wonder Motorola is in a failure mode since late nineties. Overall all I do like the product, but late to market and no support after it gets there detracts from its usability. Is this just another ploy to sell the product to create a demand for the software and accessories and then charge exorbitant prices when and if they do make it to market? Do they delay the availability so the users are forced into using the airwaves for up/ downloads to further profit the phone companies? I found the received speaker audio acceptable unlike a previous poster. The party on the other end said it had a hollow sound like most all other speaker phones. Recommendation. If you need a phone now, look carefully at the competition to see if they have the aftermarket support products you want/ need before you buy the phone. If so you may want to consider buying the competition. Or, you can wait on Motorola to back its product after you make the purchase, of course that is up to you. Nobody at the AT&T store was sure when the aftermarket products will be available, except to say �Soon�. When asked �How soon, a blank expression came over their faces. �Soon�, yea right!

This phone is non-comprehensible, and truly a piece of shit. It will not send messages, it barely answers calls (you have about 2 seconds to pick it up), and has no support from any company!!! My Nokia 6340 always has a better signal and lasts a month longer on a single battery charge. GSM has no superiority here.

This phone is far from easy to use. Ive tried to get onto the internet but it never works? i want to be able to put MP3 sounds from my computer onto it but theres no software. I have the drivers from the usb but no software so nothing happens. And there is nothing anywhere advising u about all this. The advise line probably costs �20 a minute. I recently bought the v220 since I used to have the Nokia 3595 that had a lot of problems with it starting that even on a one year guarantee Cingular doesn�t have any technician to fix them and so they try to charge their clients $50 for a refurbished one in exchange of the same model. Even when they are, the cell phone is still on the year guarantee. Some my teacher coworkers have Motorola�s to and since 2 of them have the v220 and work so fine that decided to try them and so far it has been the best choice for me. My only problem is since this cell phone is new for Cingular on Puerto Rico they hardly have accessories for this model and one thing is sure that they don�t carry the Win XP program to download the pictures from the Cell Phone to the PC, I manage to find a USB cable from an old Digital Camera that fit the slot of the phone and the PC tries to read from the phone but since I don�t have the software its impossible to download the pictures. Any idea where this software could be found, try on Motclub.com but I were unable to dowload any software. Do someone know where to find this software.

You need to download Motorola Mobile PhoneTools, which is basically the software for all your pictures, downloads, etc. Motorola wants a lot of money for it, but I found a link that works. It has the drivers if you need them too, as well as the program. Go to It's actually a Spanish site but this is the english translation. On the left hand side go to Programs, and click on Motorola Mobile phone tools, and then scroll to the bottom. you have to install 1.26 first, then it will have an update function. Dont' worry if your phone isn't listed when you first install the 1.26 version. it's an old version, but it will allow you to go to the update part of the main menu. then from there you can either check your phone from a list, or type in the model yourself. You probably have to type in v220, but it will still work correctly. Hope that helps all of you that are in search of the software. Cheers, JTang

this phone is FAB compared to the heap of junk sony ericsson i had but thats another story. the reson that pictures are'nt as sharp is because you need to go in to multimedia-pictures-press the middle top button pictures setup go to exposure and gset it to +2 it sorts it out and its much clearer! hope this helps send a message if it does

Picked up this phone last Sat. Cingular contract..... Still playing with it... Pro's: size and speaker phone feature... Con's: Motorola wants 30 bucks for USB driver download. photo quality (screen) is not as good as the phone I got my wife... still haven't been able to view pic's on computer to see how they come out.... Last note: I was dissapointed that (with Cingular)... the 'send photo to email' feature is "not supported on this phone"...... (quote from cingular tech support).....

the camera on this phone is way worse than the v300. it's comes out somewhat blurry and the color is not sharp enough too. Kinda hard to take some good pics with this phone. Therefore, if one of the reason you are getting this phone is because of the camera, i would recommend you to think of some other phones than this

Good phone, the screen is kinda small in comparison to say, the v300, but i like it more than the v300. can anyone send me the program and driver for the usb port? ive been looking everywhere but i can't find it. when i look for the phone tool program, they onlyhave the one for the v300 (the bigger usb port). so if anyone can email me the program it would be great, thanks

ive just got my v220 and think it's great - cost me �109.99 on orange - cheep for its class. a very useful phone with lots of accessories, i am currently trying to find the software to use when connecting it to my computer, any 1 know where to download it???

EXCELLENT QUALITY.... i really like the size and shape of it.. but only with 2 mb of memory.. and motorola should let me delete the defual picture and stuff 2 save memory.. it would be better if it has IF or blue tooth.. but the data link cable is better than older motorola models.. u just need a 5-pin usb cable. instead of a motorola only cable.. really cool it is rock solid.. and i mean i threw it right into the wall... the wall break and the phone is still working.

Fantastic phone! just bought mine sim free and took sim out of old phone and put it in v220, Great looking phone, very stylish indeed! As fro the call quality: excellent! Received audio is impressive. The ring tones are absolutley brillaint and are the loudest that i've ever heard! The phone can be bought sim free from lots of uk shops. I got mine from Carphone Warehouse for �179.99. It comes complete with the box, charger, battery and instructions. Thew only letdowns in the whole package is the fact that the instructions manual is very hard to follow and the PC software and usb lead are not included! Black marks for those two Motorola!!!!!!! Three java gsames are included including hungry fish, pot it out and a game called photo fun! The phone has a colour screen inside the clam and has a thin small screen on the outside of the clam that displays signal strength and the time. it also shows you the number of the person who's calling you! When the phone is opened out, the display on the outside displays the Motorola name and insignia. The phone has a built in camera withh a x4 zoom! Threre is also a facility for mixing your own ring tones just like a modern dee-jay! The phone has a video downloading and viewing ability. The phone is currently available on contract only in the uk on Orange and O2. However, when bought sim free, a pay as you talk sim can be used. The phone is tri-band so it can be used almost anywhere in the world and will work in the U .S.A. Looks.................... 10/10 Ringtones................ 10/10 Tx....................... 10/10 Rx....................... 10/10 Menu..................... 08/10 Build Quality............ 10/10 Instructions manual.......01/10 Summary: A sylish, well built phone, with useful extra's that fits nicely in the pocket or handbag.
