i bought it for 5 bucks and just love it .. i,m in my 4o,s and don,t do alot of screwin around with texting ect. so as far as i,m concerned anyone out there, who knows what i mean ,, and i,m sure there are .... find one of these phones and you will not be sorry ...there very easy to use and are very sturdy ....

I truly enjoy this phone. Interesting posts here. Obviously some folks don't know proper English grammar, but that does NOT effect the operation of the Motorola V635 phone. I've had mine for 5 years now. I bought it as a replacement for my very basic phone while stationed in England. The phone came from Germany and all quick notes are in German which I thankfully speak. This phone has been dropped from my motorcycle at 60 mph, rolled onto while I worked on my Jeep, and dropped off the balconey while I talked to my son. The front camera is broken, the battery is almost unrechargeable, yet it still keeps on working. The scren goes on and off, on and off, etc, three or four times before it stays on when I get a call. Would I buy another?? Of course, if I could find another really sturdy one like this. Perhaps I'm just used to it, but the V635 has been one of the best phones I've ever had. The features are great!

V365 is a complete waste of money. It is bulky without the reward of being tough. The screen went black after three months. I expect to get one year out of a phone. I hope that is not asking to much.

I had this phone for a few months only but i did like it! the only problem was that the speaker kept going on it so i couldn't answer my calls :( compared to phones out now the camera is crap lol but back then it was really good :) i enjoyed using it and thought it was a really good phone (if you get one that works)

I read the reviews good and bad and decided to go ahead with the purchase. I love the phone. I am a klutz and this phone has taken so many drops and has been used to stopped so many falls and it still works. At times the volume on it goes down when talking but thats due to the accidents. I am very surprised it has lasted. The screen still works and I love the memory card slot. Picture quality is good and I have done some video recording, but little. I can bluetooth easily. Message memory is awesome and GPRS is awesome too. Only thing is the Datebook, once I put in reminders and notes have switch to week view then press another key to view. that isn't labelled on the screen. Never downloaded the user manual.

The v635 SUCKS! The switch that the phone uses to determine if it's open or not activates by just barely pushing laterally on the other half. The camera eye filled with pocket "fuzz" within less than a month, rendering the camera completely useless. The buttons on the outside are VERY easily activated, which leaves me with hundreds of fuzzy pictures of the inside of my pocket. The processor is super-slow and/or the whomever did the programming sucks. And it won't let you place a call while it's on a car-charger. I hate this phone.

I had this phone for a year and enjoyed it, it has a lot of features to keep you happy. Only a couple criticisims though: 1. It does seem to crash every so often. 2. When you are taking a picture with the flash on, you always end up with a bright light in the bottom right corner of the picture as the flash and the camera are so close.

i simply hate this phone!!!its been two years that i have it n it really s***ks!!!!i used it for 6 months and than it started to freeze while writing msgs, i could only make ans answer calls but not send messages as it freezed all the time, the cover is hyper loose i had to tie a ribbon in order to keep it together,i has to repair this mobile about 6 times in 2 years for the same problem! the battery dies real soon, lets say it only lasts for about3 hours!!!!earlier i used motorola c350 which didnt have a good battery but it was far better than this one!now am forced to use a nokia 3310 until i get nother phone, do not ever buy this phonwe it is real expensive but not worth it at all!!!

the memory card goes in the 'front' of the phone, where the outside lcd is, you see the silver metal trim around the black 'plastic'...slightly widen the top so instead of a U shape the metal part looks more like a V..and slide it off, u'll see the memory card slot on ur left side (all of this is when the phone is facing you as shown in the pic)

Denver, your text message memory is full. Not your picture memory. Sayem, yes it does. You just have to hit the subkey for "view". It says "View" right on the screen. Mark, you just have to change the properties on the theme. When you change wallpapers, you are changing a theme. It IS customizable, just pay attention to what you are changing. And, you can change a wallpaper to a personal picture...without changing any tones. Mark, the battery warning tone is on most [all] Motorolas. Bottom line, this phone is packed with features - and obviously some people haven't looked at the manual for it. The voting results don't lie. The sound in the ear piece wasn't as loud as some phones, but that can be fixed easily by putting more holes in the ear piece. The earpiece sound is very clear. I don't drop my phone very often, but I have on pavement and concrete getting out of the car before. Nothing has ever broken. It's the most solid phone I used. Even beat my Nokia. The phone picks up a strong signal better than many other phones I've seen/used. I will have a signal while some friends on the same network won't. Really a solid phone overall and can be found cheap now. Oh, and the camera really is a good looking picture. Some people haven't even been able to notice it.

On the front of the clam, the metal strip outlining the edges slides down. You will see the memory card slot after that. Didn't you get a manual with the phone?

I'v been trying to send pics but it keeps on telling me memory full even after deleting a whole lot it just does not send any of my pics to recipients.Could you assist me in this matter. I'v even called in customer care but no luck and in fact it's quite frustrating not having found any solution to this problem after asking consultants which are meant to be of help. This phone has frustrated me for about an year now and am about to give it out for free. The phone changes its ringtone when you change the wall paper which is pretty annoying as you can imagine. When you're on phone and you accidentally press the "record" button then the whole conversation is recorded. Depending on what you do for a living, the motorola v635 can land you in BIG trouble!!! What pisses me off the most is how slow the thing is, the phone is a damn ass!! there was once I dialed 0 and the response, "0 not found"

great phone still...very durable...and decent mp3 player..colour quality is decent too..i lost sound through the reciever after a year and a half so i ended up having to use the headset or bluetooth...i never expected after for almost 2 years since its been released that it still is better i should say than many new current phones.

great phone. used it for about 7mths until the external screen cracked since my friend sat on it. then the battery started dying and only lasted like 4 hours.. currently own a SE w850i but i still wouldn't mind using this phone! did everything that i needed it to do =)

Had the V635 for a year and a month and it's been great. I use it for my mp3 listening pleasure everyday, it's slow going from song to song but bearable. Great sound quality with headphones and speakers. The only thing I would change is the receiver's loudness, it's too quiet, even on max volume.

I bought this unlocked phone online because I needed a quad band with camera and video. I have not had any of the problems that the others listed and I find it easy to use and a valuable tool for me at work. I've used it throughout Europe in 4 countries and also in Central America and never had any problems. It has been roughed up alot, I've dropped it several times and it's a bit scratched up and beat up, but it still works great. The pictures are very good I think. I use them for work. I would recommend it. If you don't like yours please send it to me.

When I select the file I wanna delete, there is no "delete" function, so I "mark" the selected file, then "delect marked item", still doesn't work. to dave: to create mp3 ringtones and save phone memory @ the same time, you can download a song mixer program and cut the desired song to whatever part you want (i usually just have the song cut to 30 secs) then you upload it to your v635 via usb then when its on your phone it will be under sounds...to make it a ringtone..press move which is usully found under the middle menu button (once song is selected) and send the song to 'Phone' .. then when the transfer is complete you can find the song under your phone folder or mainly under ring styles.

just wanted to know how i can put mp3's into my v635 as a ringtone but i only have a standerd usb which i dont think hooks up to the phone..i also have a bluetooth thing that hooks up to my usb port on my computer (AmbiCom) i have no idea wat its for but wondering if i can use it on the piece it says bluetooth.... whenever i scan for bluetoth devive with the phone it says none found..?

Now on my 3rd V635 phone in 18 months. Keeps losing ringer volume. no audible ring tone. Not sure why. Will have to change if this one goes the same way.

I tried to connect it to my computer(windows xp)so I could download photos.A popup appeared stating that the icons may not be compatible and that proceeding with installation may cause the computer problems.It did,and i spent ages trying to uninstall the program.Also the ring settings change themselves 'usually to silent' by inadvertently pressing the little button on the side when it's in your pocket. I'd give it 1 out of 10

Piece of rubbish, wont buy a Motorola again. Always had the "V" series and were happy. Bought this one for the expandable memory and the stereo mp3 player (also fitting existing car kit). The phone locks up, especially on the car kit (guenuine Motorola). Reception improved after a smaller antenna was fitted. Video average but too short. memory doesnt work, bought larger memory (now works in PC) but not phone. Cannot write video or music to memory. Cannot play MP3, exept standard tones on phone memory. Why would they supply decent stereo ear buds if you cann't play chosen music. Reading comment of the photo flash, what flash. I thought it was a visual design only. Pitty it cost so much or i'd throw it. Anyone want to catch!

Had this phone for 2 years... never had a single problem with it. The camera is not the best but is far from the worst I've seen (Nokia Camera Phones). Screen is clear maybe Nokia should take some pointers from Motorola, I've only seen a few Nokia's with screens that are not blurry. All in all, a good phone, not the best but far from the worst.

If you got 200 to 300 $ to spend and want this phone and only like motorola here is what i suggest.Buy a Time port instead.The V635 is not a smart phone but it works so bad god knows why.Camera is useless.Video is too.Memory is ridiculous.Can't put more than 256 in it.so why buy a phone for the beauty of it.Get the time port and get your self a cheap Mps 3 player instead

Recently i met a guy on the bus stop who told me lets change phones.My V635 was only 1 week old and the guy had a 4 year old siemens A 35.I swapped it in a heart beat and you know what i do not regret it because on the Siemens A 35 although old you can receive calls and talk clearly.The V635 is not a phone but some time of expensive calculator that freezes all the time.Motorola should add a new lexicon to their advertisements "Motocraporola"

I had this Phone for a year now and i just sold it for 1/3 the price.I use to like Motorola until i bought this phone.It scratches easily and freezes nealry all the time.Not only my model but nearly everybody who has or had one say the same thing.Memory is usless.Comes with 32 card and 16 internal but you can upgrade to 256 .If you put 512 it starts to freeze.Sometimes you want to watch something from gallery and it shuts off.You have to constantly format it so that it works fine for a while.The Camera is good but misplaced.Lots of dirt gets into the lens quickly and it is hard to clean.Flash is inadequate.If phone is openned and you have a plastic case to cover your phone then you cannot use camera.Mp3 sound is good though but takes time to load and you cannot download any games on it easily .80% games i tried do not go.In one word if you are thinking of buying this phone don't.It is going to ruin your Nerves.

Thank god! I was so annoyed by this phone, that i`ve changed with my mothers Nokia 1600! Motorola phones are the worst thing happened! The phones software is wick, not too many multimedia posibilities, camera is thw worst, video function is good, but the lenght of the video is only 30-35 seconds. No way of theme or games downloadable from PC...Anyway, Motorola phones are the most boring! I tell u like a friend,SE and Nokia are the best phones!

This phoneis superb except its messaging features. You can't save a lengthy message before sending it to someone. Its message-saving folder (quick notes) can only save 160 characters at a time. Otherwise, its a better set having most of the modern features.

good features, not a very nice design. Too fat. Laggy like most motorola's. Pretty good camera. The back cover for the battery falls off all the time. Overall, not a great phone but it has alot features for the price, and it also came with a free 512Mb TF card where I got it.

hi, i read an article that u submitted on i have a problem w/ my motorola v635, i noticed recently that whenever i take pictures it tells me " CANNOT CAPTURE: CHANGE STORAGE TO MEMORY CARD" but whenever i go to SWITCH STORAGE DEVICE to try to change it, i couldnt find the memory card option, all i see is PHONE. my SIM capacity is IN USE : 46 and EMPTY 204 what could be wrong w/ my phone? please reply, NIkki

for those whos phones keep freezing, check your sim card and make sure that is not a 3G, it will say it somewhere on the card, these phones do not support 3G sim cards, try a regular sim card, just a thought!!

This phone is great, i've had mine for little bit over a year now and i have only had to fix it once when i threw it one night, it is very durable, has taken a lot of bumps and bangs. Also one reason why your guys batteries don't last a long time, is when you first get your phone with the battery, your supposed to let it just stay on and drain the battery till it's dead, then fully charge it, i don't have to charge my phone for almost 2 days. Even though i barely usually wait 2 days, but i've done it many of times and the phone has never let me down.

Is it dead? I used the phone abroad for two weeks; it worked beautifully. I returned, charged and removed the battery for keeps. Now, I want to travel abroad again but the phone simply refuses to turn. I charged the battery for hours, no luck. I also bought a replacement battery, though it was for v600 but I was told it would work. No luck too. In any case, it won't boot up with electricity also, which makes me think this may be no battery problem. Any idea at all about what is wrong with the phone? Being in the US, I don't have access to my warranty since the phone was assembled in the UK; US motorola apologized profusely but they could not help me. Overseas Electronics that sold it to me two months ago said it can't help, and that I should take it with me and repair it abroad. Oh well... Thanks.

Ok look, if some of your phone features dont work then youve got a defective phone, the only real problem is that it will sometimes freeze... this has various solutions #1 just leave it and go watch Tv for like 1/2 hour if its still frozen then take out the battery and it will obviously shut down, turn it on again and if it freezes again leave it on, EVENTUALLY it will start to work again, it wont take more than 2 hours hehe but thats the solution unless you get another phone

This is a noce looking phone, but completely fiasco. I ordered this phone twice and returned it and gave up buying this phone, because back lid of this phone was loose. I just wonder if your phone (motorola V635) has loose back lid or not. Your responses are important, because I will have an idea if the online seller (www.myworldphone.com) tried to sell me defective phone. Thanks.

this is the worst phone i ever purchased. it always freezes on me, and ive returned it 4 times and they say they fix it but nothing ever happens except that my phone settings have been all reset. the mp3 player only works on constant bitrate mp3s, and now people can barely hear me. i am never buying motorola phones again.

I've had this phone 4 over a year and it's an excellent phone. The features are incredible and it's very resistant. but i have the same problem, battery life is very short, and it delays to enter to picture gallery (over a minute). But overall it's a great phone

To my knowledge, the V635 can't play mp4, it can only play the video file type it captures which i forget what its called. Also, i believe there is a file transfer limit through bluetooth because i have transfered before through bluetooth and it gave me an error when the file is too large, but this may have been an outgoing file

Has anyone physically played an MP4 video on this phone..?? Also is there a file transfer limit when u transfer files thru the bluetooth..?? The reason why i ask is cause my V551 limits bluetooth transfer to 5 megs and my nokia 6230 also has a transfer limit of 6 megs. My SE W810i has no limit that i have seen yet. I have transfered a 128mb mp4 video thru bluetooth (took 45 min) but it worked..

Excellent phone. Ha mine for about 6 monts. The design is mediocre and it weis a ton, but the features more than make up for it. The 1,23mp moto (olympus) camera is the best in the series of 1,3mp cameras, comparable with the k600i. Battery life is roughly 5 days, with pictures, listening to music and 20mins of talking per day. - INCREDDIBLE price/performance ratio!!! You can find it for as cheap as 130$ !!!!! Singnal is excelent, and the phone is VERRY rezistant.

Its been a month now since i have this phone(v635) must say satisfied with few complains. The only thing I have found which I am very unhappy about is how often i have to charge the battery! for crying out loud it should be a new battery in there. The charger breaks way to easily (pins at the bottom of the phone) the terminal gets loose very easily and the phone will no longer charge. Just got an L7 w/ mini USB charger and its 10000x better

Not a particularly good handset. Software errors, MP3 player crashes regularly, heavy, changes profile settings at will. A few plus points: it's pretty sturdy, memory slot, decent camera. Much better mobiles out there, can be bought cheaply on ebay.

I've had my V635 since August 2005 and I love it. One recommendation I should make is that if you are not willing to explore all the features and possibilities this phone has, you should not buy it. This phone actually opened me up to the world of phone modding. It's a great phone for it and can let you do so much more to improve and personalize it. The software that comes preinstalled is very buggy and is a waste to even have. So, if you want the most out of your V635, upgrade the firmware and learn to mod. Someone asked if 90R was better than 88R before. Different firmwares work better for some and worse for others. I have a modded 90R firmware on mine from Leukoplast. His thread is on Howard Forums if you want to update with his MP (MonsterPack).

i also purchaced this phone on ebay and was impressed with it at first, but the front LCD broke and parts are impossible to find... im in western australia and i cannot find a place who repairs phones who has even heard of it never mind the part availability. but slowly i am noticing a decline in the performance of the software, its getting slower and slower. also if u use the MP3 player it drains the battery to nothing within the first 30mins. i rate it 5 out of 10 because i realise im a ttrades person and put the phone through hell..

Worst phone I have ever owned. Previous Motorola's such as the V500 were much better. This phone, well, it was the 2nd I had from O2 after having problems with the first one, the problems were also in the 2nd one, and I think they are software based. The phone frequently locks when trying to send a picture message, and you have to take the battery out. At night, when the phone is turned off, you wake up in the morning to find the front display lit up constantly, again, battery must come off. I dont like the way the display does not show you have a text waiting if you leave it for a while. The battery life isnt great either, and I found the whole design too "slippery" to open, it was so easy to let it drop to the floor if you were not careful. On the plus sides the camera is not bad and so are the tones, and the keyboard is a nice layout, but I picked up a new Nokia today after having this phone for a year, and I am going to smash it to bits with a hammer because I just hate it so much.

For Clint: I was having the same problem with the weird text message being sent when I checked my voicemail. I stopped it by flashing the software on the phone to the newest version. Hi i got this phone the last week and i love it to bits. only got a 64m card with it so will b gettin a bigger 1 got it on btmob but i just put my o2 sim in and it worked. which was a bonus:)) havin lots of fun playing with it i havent experienced any prob yet so fingers x. it has a good camra and u can record long video clips by changing the setting from mms to maximum by going to videos setup. u can use mp3s as ring tones by moving the mp3 file to the phone rather than the trans then click on options ans set as ring tone.Also to send through bluetooth go to the file u want to send and go to the options button which is the middle 1 scroll down to copy selectthen go 2 bluetooth then search 4 devices.hope this helps anyonexxx from sam (uk)warrington

a week after I bought the v635 I had to go back to my v551 because I found out that every time I check my voice-mail, a text message is sent to the phone with an @ sign and the date and time. The phone itself is very feature-full. flash for the camera, Trans removable memory, decent menu navigation, but it is a little bulky. anyone with my problem, tell me what you did to stop the text msgs.

When using my bluetooth dongle to send files to the phone it starts the transfer at around 13KBps but after about 30 seconds the transfer speed goes down to about 2KBps and takes ages to transfer. Is there anyone else with this problem and does anyone know how i can solve it?

ok. About the video recording time of only one minute - did some research on the net and :to all that have the same problem - the phone has the old version of software (24R). You can fix this by flashing. I didn't do it on my phone thow. I don't wana ruin the phone,I kinda like it, at least not until I find more information. So, the ones that did flash their V635 pls e-mail me. I want to know if I can do it myself or should I search for a qualified person. What programs for flashing should I better use and if I need a monsterpack or a flex? Can it be done via Bluetooth or only by USB? What programs do you reccomend for flashing? I flashed with a 88r monster pack, which changed my flex and flash. Check howardforums and motomodders, read a lot before reflashing , it can kill your phone. I wouldn't do it unless your having problems.

Ok i've wanted this phone forever and I finally got it off of ebay for $228.00. Speaker phone is wonderful I can hear the other person and they can hear me justlike we were talking normally. It feels nice in the hand and Ihave not had a reception problem. BUT When I take pictures...I get "corrupted" when I go to view them.. and the video camera doesn't seem to work...I switch to video mode..and the picture freezes. Is this a software problem, or a hardware problem? do i need to send it back and try another one?

Got this phone yesterday, opinions as follows: 1. MP3 Player is fkn awesome for a phone 2. I've had NO software problems at all with anything 3. Came with data cable, BT headset, memory card and headphones. Everything you need. 4. Camera works well for what it is. 5. The video camera's crap, extremely low quality and 30 seconds max (I'll be fixing this by modding the software). 6. Speaker's loud and clear 7. Phone has a very nice solid feel, buttons are good to use, menu's are intuitive. Rating: 9/10 Let downs: 1. Video Cam quality and options. 2. I've read all the comments about this phone and I think a lot of people do NOT know how to use it. It is a marvel of the modern world. It does everything that its supposed to and its small and looks good. Idont think adding an FM radio is of much use but is another step in multimedia. Definately the next one for me will be the V3i.

Decent phone, really. I have had a few problems with the battery as I see a few others have, and it does tend to be a little temperamental and going off of it's own accord. Rather annoying. One question, I received a message today (from O2 I think)and accidentally pressed 'exit' instead of 'read'. I went into my inbox to retrieve the message....but it wasn't there. Now, I still have the unread message icon at the top of the screen.....but the message seems to have vanished. Does anyone have any idea where it might have got to and how I can retrieve it? I have had this phone for about 21 months. Here is some very helpfull info before you make your decision. Battery - Lasts me about 3 days, talking about an hour each day. When I got the phone it was only lasting me about a day and a half, then it gradualy increased after a few charges. All features work great. EDGE Is much faster than I expected, but useless since I have T-Zones. The reception is Ok but not the best.MP3 Is absolute crap, slow and has not sound shaping options! It is a very sturdy feeling phone which is very nicely designed. I have personaly have never had any problems with this phone at all. I am currently replacing this phone with a V3i. I will find out which is best overall, but I already know the v3i sure looks cooler.

Aman, to use the mp3 player you must have files in mp3 format stored either on the phone or in the audio folder of the transflash card. To store files on the transflash either uset the SD adaptor supplied and put the card into a memory card reader, or use the supplied usb cable to connect phone and pc (make sure transflash is in phone and phone is set not set to work as a modem but as a usb storage device- this is in settings, connection or something). Then copy mp3s into the audio folder of the transflash. Then use the mp3 application in the java section of the phone (its where the games are). It takes a while to load. Or you could go to the sounds in multimedia (make sure you have switched to the correct storage device- eg transflash).

When i bought the phone about a year ago i was told it supported up to 256mb transflash memory, which i think was probably the max you could buy then. I have tried a 512mb transflash card (which is the highest capacity transflash available now) and it works fine with that as well.

For anyone wondering how to set up internet services on your phones, all you need to do is contact your service provider and get the settings off them. Some phones will come pre-loaded with local networks but the majority will need you to call up the network to get the settings. Happy new year.

It was 12:30 almost, on christmas eve, and not even excited about christmas I rolled back and forth restless... I didn't even feel like christmas. Remembering my brother's joke about openng a present at one past midnight I got up, and decided to drain myself somehow, I hopped down the stairs that creeked and grabbed a present from under the tree - I knew what it was, I had peeped earlier lifting up the cellotape tab, it had been only the seond time I had done it in my life, I once slashed my GBA SP and then shoved it back under the tree :p. Sitting on my bed my bro came out of his bedroom next to me, he had been fiddling on his laptop late and had gone to brush his teeth and saw it and said, don't brake it (I WON'T!!). Apart from that the house was silent. I unrapped it and spent half an hour getting it turned on, as I was careful to hide it under the pillow incase Mum or Dad get up to go to the toilet. My stocking had already been left, it was actually a bag, 'cus Mum had been lazy and I hadn't actually been asleep when she left it (I was going to comment on how womenly santa was). Putting in the batterry, sim card (which I did wrong the first time) and then the 32M transflash provided, I put back on the cover and removed some obscuring label and pressed ON. There was a loud angelic jangle. The first thing I did was try put the phone on silent, which occurred with a loud bleep, then discovered the multimedia menu, turned on the camera, it had a flash, it was a good camera, even better once I changed the save folder to the transflash which enabled me to set it up to 1.23 Megapixels. It has upto 8x zoom and about a dozen colour effects, not to mension the exposure change! You can access it by the camera key on the phone or via the side which enables self portrait. There is far too many features to comment on this phone, so I'll get out what I can. You can personalise this phone, from changing the smart key or shortcut items on the desktop, and backgrounds and screensavers! It has motomixer which is okay, you basically get to mix a backing track and change the tempo, it's midis. This phone does not yet have a designated MP3 player, but you can play them through a unstable JAVA application, or even better, through the ringtone sampler, which is much better. It has a headphone scoket, and the headphoenes included are brilliant, and act as a headset! If you buy this phone new now, you'll get it with the new firmware, which isn't perfect but better than the last I heard, mines 24R or something, I had a few white screens but everything else is brilliant, and they were whilst using multimedia features and I did too much stuff at once, then the phone got grumpy :_). Yes, you are right, it CAN record videos, and transfer them too to play, though you'll need to encode them to MP4 or 3GP, I haven't tried any others. It can record sounds but you have to listen to them via the ear-speaker, the loudspeaker is great, it sound crystal clear, I could set it sooo loud, the volume controls can get a bit confusing as there's one for everything (and one quick access one on the side of the phone). In the way of tools, you got a handy calculator, Datebook, voice recorder, alarm clock, the phone even has chat facilities and DRM activation lists! The phone has messaging to the extreme, aswell as neat pictures for your phone book, the WAP is enhanced, on virgin it was 0.5p/KB which proved expensive for large JAVA games, seeing as motorola have temporarily disabled PC transfering of them for standard users, though if you know how, you can use motocoder's MIDway and transfer them, but it's not easy to use : ( On the techy side, the phone has dual GSM, and bluetooth, which can be confusing to use but you simply highlight a file and select COPY then "Bluetooth", from there scan for devices, unless you are already connected. The screen is crystal clear, the out ones good too, it changes the background according to your desktop background, and displays the time. Closing the flip-phone will exit any open menu's or items, unless specifically set up, IE. the MP3 player will still play with it closed. The buttons press nicely and the design is nice. You need to charge it everyday with heavy use or every few days if you leave it on standby. Believe me, this phone has got everything, multiple callers, several nifty JAVA games included, it's one heck of a phone. So don't wait. Though on the down side; 1.The PC software is terrible, it doesn't do much, not more than the phone can do except sync, backup and transfer CERTAIN things, stick with the windows browsing for memory card browsing and transfer stuff to phone memory from the memory card on the actual phone itself. The PC software stopped functioning full stop after a live-update and prooved buggy in the first place, did harm to my PC. 2.JAVA & skin uploading from PC has currently been disabled by motorola. 3.On top of that access to the actual phone memory is disabled except through a dumb manager (memory card is free to browse and change though). 4.The phone is slightly buggy even with the latest firmware, encountering some white screens or errors randomly when playing media, or just when it's having a mess around... 5.USB cable isn't included sadly, and it's not a usual cable so you have to buy their special one.. But still, it's amazing!

Before you decide you like this phone or if you want to get it, PLEASE just read all the opinions posts here it would really help your decision. This is probably one of the top 3 if not the best GSM flip phone in the world because it has EDGE internet connection, Megapixel camera, Memory slot, Bluetooth, and a flip phone. You are NOT going to find another phone out there with these criteria besides the Motorola A780 which is big and bulky. I have posted here before that DO NOT get this phone if you dont know how to flash new software/firmware because the origninal 24R software is very buggy. People have changed the stock software to 6FR, 88R, 90R which will make this phone run like a champ. If you can't get new sofware in there then you are gonna face these issues: 1. slow responsiveness in buttons 2. white screen shows up once a while 3. Phone restarts for no reason 4. browsing internet is terrible buttons to slow to scrow the contents. 5. sending SMS may cause screen to go blank/white 6. When you play mp3s with 192kps quality the phone will restart. It likes 128kps 7. Battery life sucks with orignal software With the new software/firm ware which I have is 6FR. This phone is awesome, I have owned many many highend phones including PDA phones and Windows smart phones and I love this phone because its small and packed with features unmatched in the market today. If you want the answer to some of the basics questions such as camera resolution or ringtones how about starting with the User's Manual. If you want internet settings go to your phone service provider web site and they will have the answer for that. If you want advanced technical answers go to howardforums.com and registration is free and you can make your V635 into whatever you want. The reason this phone even get 8.3 rating here because most people dont know what they are doing and just hate the phone and give it low ratings.

Seems like there is quite a lot of complaints with this phone, but somehow it doesn't put me off, it's the only phone I want, design is perfect and the features look just to my liking. I think the main problem is that some people are having problems with the processor speed, I saw a lot of complaints on crashing and one or two on slow operation. This may have been rectified at a later release because most people find it fine. Another thing to remember, if you had a faulty phone - you are more likely to spread bad comments about it than purposely going on the internet and praising it. To get down to what I think, I think the camera quality is gorgeus in the sample photos (note that a lot of people did not find the option of resolution changing) and recording videos isn't something you get with every phone (and a flash!!!!). MP3 player is going to be very useful, no you no longer have to carry around a seperate one, but you can't exactly replace it, remember you can't expand the memory to more than 256MB, but it's probably good for day to day bus listening. The colour screen IS 256k not 65k, that is the outer screen, it was not clearly marked. Bluetooth is likely to be useful, I see a lot of people in school sending back and forth videos (not your average kiddy program mind you), photos and sending ringtones they bought. A bonus is that you no longer have to buy stuff, with USB connectivity *drag and drop* and so on... Thank god there is no direct internet button (or which I know of) I have hit those keys sooo many times when I've used other peoples phones. Looking forward to getting this phone for christmas and opening it in all it's crisp glory, and not exactly to make calls, it will be the first new-age phone I will have. No more b/w Nokias! The reason why you are taking 300 shots at low resolution is because you've never changed the resolution in the camera menu. If you take time to check your phone, you'll realize there are different resolutions you can choose from, one being the 1.2 mp res.

It's unbelievable how many people complain about this phone. Reading the comments, it's pretty obviouse that there are many people that are not technically savy as their problems are mostly due to the user's service provider and thier inability to comprehend the phone's menus and options. PLEASE do some research before you complain. I have the v635 and it is by far the best flip phone on the market. I've had NO problems with it and have had it for five months. If you can't handle a phone like this one, then save yourself the frustration and get a simpler phone. Cheers.

I agree with the long winded post by Joe on Nov. 21/05. This model doesn't live up to it's hype. 1) They say is has a 1.3MB camera. Well I've taken at least 300 shots and have never been able to get an indoor or outdoor daylight or night photo to register more than 400K 2) The internal speaker (not the speakerphone) sounds like people are talking to you thru a pillow...very muffled. Compared to my old Nokia (which had an EQ feature and lots of volume), this phone is dreadful. 3) Editing a number in your missed calls box is not possible unless you save the number to the memory. Who needs that frustration when you're rolling down the highway at 70+. 4) They make you pay for interface software that is probably the worst piece of junk I've ever used with an electronic gadget.

if you are not phone savy then this phone is not for you because the original software have bugs and crashes. if you know how to flash new software or firmware and know p2k programs with seem editing volume then you will have the perfect flip phone.

This phone is the worst peace of junk I have ever seen. If you want to save yourself tremendeous headaches do yourself a favour and stay away from it. I will be very specfic for those that still have doubts: 1. unstable OS - the phone OS crashes almost every day under all possible circumstances like opening the phone, turning on your BT headset, in the middle of conversation etc. 2.U can't hear anything unless U use a headset or use the built in speaker 3.The phone does not hand off calls among the cell towers while driving causing disconnected calls 4. The BT functionality desrves improvement as switching off one BT device and opening another cause the phone to crash or not to recognize the BT device unless you reboot it (turn it off and on) 4. The EDGE/GPRS feature does not always work smootheley and you might need to rebbot the phone and remove the batery. 5. battery life is very short in general and it is realy bad if U use a BT headset - I am draining it in 2 hours when the call volume is high. The conclusion - while this model is slightly better than the V551 which in my opionion should be simply recalled and removed from the market, it is still a very bad phone. If you are a business professional who needs the phone for more than few evening chats with friends I would strongly suggest that U stay away from this and all other Motorola models. Motorola models are designed to impress by their design and by giving you a long list of impressive features which in reality can be hardely cosidered working. So if you need a reliable phone do yourself a favour and look elsewhere - probably towards SonyEricsson or other vendors.

My sister and I both got this phone not so long ago. After about 8 weeks both our phones came up with the same error, it would crash whenever we tried to call or answer a call. I myself have had 3 replacement phones (same model) and every single one has had the same problem. I'd definately recommend keeping away from this model of phone.

Cingular network is GSM 850/1900 and Tmobile is GSM 1900 only, however, Tmobile has 850 roaming agreements. v635 is quadband, so it will work on any gsm network.... period

Figured out the key light thing. I guess this thing has a light sensor. Which turns the key light on when it senses that there is not enough light. I am still trying to configure all the setting for T-Mobile(E-Mail out, Crappy T-Zones). The customer service at T-Mobile seems to fairly heplfull with the setting for this phone.(Amazing)

I just got the phone in. Kind of weird, I guess there are two options of this phone one with the ridges on the bootom of the faceplate and one without(mine is without). Awesome phone, but my key light only works every once in a while. WTF? Why? Everything else seems cool though.

Got it 3 weeks ago. Great phone. Pictures are real nice, as good as a phone camera could be (a bit saturated and not good in low light). I have 3 digital cameras but I like to have one just in case I need to capture something and I don't have a "real" one with me. WAP might be a bit tricky to program without carrier assistance. You can get all kind of faceplates now (even cromed ones) MP3 quality is really good but wont play variable bitrate mp3. You can use mp3 ringtones as long as they are less than 20 secs. SMS is simple, easy to use. Battery lasts 1-2 days with low phone/cam use. You can get memory cards cheap in case you need more space. But even without cards the phone has enough for some pics. I dont like the fact that one can't customize the outside buttons and outside screen is low quality. But overall don't regret it.

I bought this phone and sold it back after only 3 days of using it. It had many good features but here's a list of what made me sell it: 1) The phone would lag because the processor is a little slow. It got annoying. 2) For those who are fast at sending sms this phone will only make u angry. In every msg that I wrote I would be finished but I had to wait for the letters to show on the screen. This was a very strong reason for me to sell it back. 3) I tried as much as I can but I couldn't find a way to send photos via Bluetooth. 4) The phone froze a couple of times. I had to remove the battery and put it back so I can turn the phone on again. 5) Ringing volume at its maximum was not as loud as I would've liked it to be 6) Can't save messages in a "Drafts" or "Archives" folder. Had to go through the steps of sending the msg before you can cancel and save I wanted to keep the phone as it had many great features. People out there might like it but processor speed was very important to me.

Did you know that the antenna unscrews. It came off in my pocket the other day and luckly I didn't loose it. If it gets in the way of your flash try unscrewing it. If you lost your mp3 player you should be able to get a software update from motorola's website.

I liked my old startac. This V635 has a mind of it's own. It changes ring tones on it's own and the most anoying thing is when it shuts off the ringer. You don't know when your getting calls. I also put a 256mb transflash in for added memory and now have to buy a card reader to format the transflash card before it can be used. The bluetooth headset was junk so I sent it back. I expected to get better coverage with this phone because it was GSM, but it's no different than before, but that has a lot to do with the provider. The camera is very poor quality but it does work. I think they have a long way to go to improve this phone. If it wasn't for my battery life of about 3 to 4 days and the alarm clock, I'd go back to my startac.

mP3 QUESTIONS... wELL, you need the usb data cable to add mp3 songs to this phone.This usb data cable goes with the cd phone tools .I got it and and I added 3 songs but the phone memory is small so better you use the memory card that is included.i ve read in the manual that you can download about 34 songs .Believe me its working ..I ve downloading an mp3 that is about 3.39 minutes and set it as rintone!VSS

I got this phone about two weeks ago. I was looking to get the 635i, which is just a 635 w/ a 512 card in box, but the salesman said that they recalled them due to problems with the big card. Well, thanks to that I payed $50 less for it, and after a few days decided to look at the card and.... it was a 512. So score for me. Anyways, he was right. The card (albeit free so I don't care) behaves rather stangely at times. Files deleted while connected to my computer don't dissapear in the phone, it refuses to access mp3's (rebooting helps), and pictures don't transfer when you want them to (just tell it to do it again, that usually helps). General rule: Don't believe it when it says "file in use". Anyways, apart from that, and I'm not complaining about a free half gig transflash card, it's a great phone so far. I'm tired of toys that don't last until my contract is up, but this feels like the most solid phone I've ever owned. The aluminum faceplate seems rock solid. Syncs fine with my MAC via isync, and the wallpapercomming up on the outside of the phone is a featre I admittedly cannot stop oogling. Software is a little bit on the downside of useability. This phone has so many features that they have not yet a worked out a really co-ordinated system to use them all. The method for selecting the ringer, for instance, is just stupid. And I'm not a big fan of one phone number for entry, so that all my contacts get listed 2-3 times in the directory.

Yo SweetBabe, the answer to your question(s) is: Under the SETTINGS --> Connection --> Bluetooth --> Set Up --> Power On ... if you keep it on all the time you will kill your battery. To find someone to send a file to you need to: Select the File --> Copy --> BlueTooth --> Look for Device or Chose one from you Device History. if you want to send a Phone Book contact to another BlueTooth device chose Send instead of Copy and there you go. It is a little counterintuitive this way but it works. You can also send a photo the same way but if you use the Copy command you can write a message on the Photo

V635 is great!if you get also the phone tools cd software you can connect to a pc and download mp3s to this phone and use them as ringtones.The mp3 has to be short though , i know because i tried to download a song about 3 minutes and it didnt work.quality of the sound is great.If you use phone tools usb wire you can transfer files from your phone to the pc too such as photos that you took with its camera and you can also create your own mms message.Only thing I would prefer if this phone was lighter and the battery would last longer.

To get multiple numbers for one contact person in your phone book you need to go into your phone book --> set up --> View --> Primary Contacts After you have done this go into your contact person and scroll down to you see the word MORE select it then choose either to add number or email.

For Kirsty: If you take the back of the phone off, it will show you how to install the memory card. You slide off the silver part around the screen on the front and you'll find the spring loaded memory card slot on the left. Just put the card in and push to make it click into place. That's all. Just slide the cover back on and you're ready to go.

I had the same problem.. when the mp3s have 128 kb/s you want have any problem.. with 192 kb/s you can be lucky, but then not then some songs still don�t sound "normal".. If you convert them to 128 kb/s everything works fine

I just recently got this phone with the rogers deal in Canada, and everything works fine but one thing. When I go to upload Mp3's, only some of them really upload properly, half of them start to skip and sound jumbled and fast when played. Does anyone have any idea what can cause this problem?

I just bought this phone. Signed a 3 year contract with the provider to get it for 199.00CDN. I didn't even talk or use the phone, I was trying out the camera and it conked out on me. The screen went black with a white stripe. I tried listening to the ringtones and it would just say loading. This was within half hour of taking it from the store. It didn't even fall. I got the V635 as a b-day gift and I love it. The only problem I've had with it is the speaker. When it plays certain poly or mp3 ringtones, it crackles and clicks. Other than that, the phone is excellent. I read that some people are complaining about their phone getting scratched. I left the plastic on mine. It's practically invisible. The reception is great! When I talk to people, they can't even tell I'm on a cell. I think that depends on your service too. I am on T-Mobile in the USA. Battery life is pretty good too. I use mobile web on my phone all the time, plus talk time, and I only charge the phone maybe every 3-4 days. I guess I was one of the lucky ones that got a good one. The camera is great also. It has excellent qualityh and the videos are the best I've seen on a phone. Hope this is helpful. StyX

had this phone for over 4 months now, the front has started to scratch where the flip opens, noticed that after 2 months, now the silver is comming of the buttons, but the most annoying thing, the mp3 ring tones pause for over 3 secs when i get txt messages instead of playing right though, but only when the phones closed, fine when it's open sometimes it just beeps when a txt comes, this is my last moto phone, think ill buy a sony k750i, least it has a good battery for the mp3 player

I've had this phone for a month now, and I can't believe there's people who actually think this is the best phone in the market! Of course it has it's good points,like customization and .mp3 ringtones, but I've never been able to connect it to my PC using bluetooth, and sometimes while using the USB cable, it not only freezes the phone but also my computer! As soon as I get rid of this phone I'm going back to Samsung or SE, they've never let me down with their products as Motorola has done with this thing. This is my last Motorola phone.

I 've just bought v635, but i used IT for 10 days. The sellers, however tell me the truth time by time, one day the phone arrived by spain and not from italy. Successively, he said me that it was bouth by importation without taxes. But the great problem was the life of battery, in stand by not more than 10 hrs...and when I asked to him to send it to Motorola, before he said it was the normal life of battery, then, with same problems sent ma telephone ... where for the riparation. In three weeks, I used my phone not more than 3 days. In the next week if phone is good, ok. However I sent to him a letter from my layer.

This is one great fone. You can copy mp3 files to your T-flash card and then copy to your fone to make mp3 ringtones. Best is to edit the mp3 file first with software to a smaller file and shorter ringtone. I find you don't need to buy or use the card reader at all. I have my T-flash in my fone and whenever I want to copy files to the T-flash I make the setting on the fone to T-flash and then hook-up the moto-usbcable. After all files are copied I then move them to my fone. Simple. Editing video for it is pretty interesting. So far I have 3gp software that converts downloaded mpg videos to 3gp video and I copy that to my fone to play when I'm bored or want to show it off. How technology rapidly changes in a blink of an eye, eh. Email me if you have questions. I'm gonna post a How-to for some stuff mentioned above.

Oh, I just wanted to let all Rogers users in Canada know that they're selling the v635i on their website which features a 512 MB Trans-Flash card!! The only difference with this "version" of the v635 is the larger T-Flash card, for the same price as the original v635!

I bought my V635 on ebay and I just a few questions/probs with this phone: 1) When I connect my phone and USB cable to my PC, my comp comes up with some "New Software Install Wizard" thing which prompts me to install any software that came with my phone. The problem is I didn't GET any software, and my PC can't recognize my phone so it won't sync up. Is there some sort of software disk I was supposed to get with this phone? 2) Since I bought this phone on ebay it didn't come with a T-Flash card. Just got a few questions and a bit of input. Has anyone tried to sync up their phone with MS Outlook..?, if so how and what were the results..?. Next is has anyone tried to store other types of files such as Word / Excel. The video / camera are great considering that they are second and tertiary figures of the PHONE, people have commented on the weight of the phone but the extra weight (which is minimal) actually helps to stabilize the phone during image taking. That cant be true because they sell the Motorola V635 in Brooklyn and some guy had it for past then 3 weeks and he says it stil works fine. I bought the v635 in early June. After four days the front screen stopped working. I sent it to Motorola in TX after many conversations back & forth(they insisted they could not repair it in US). Well, I got the phone back after a month and the front screen was indeed repaired. However, there was now two dents in the phone, they lost the front metal piece and could not replace it! They broke the glue-on bezel which kept peeeling off & they did not put the seal on in the rear where the battery is and simply left it protruding inside!!! Now the phone is coompltely different. The menue is like the v600/v620, I cant change the ring style, there is no more searching by letter(in phone book), and the memo pad is also gone????? It is super glichy. The flex version is: SE5186AXXL10CF My phone only rings now(by vibrating) in vibrate mode. I cant change the ringtone???? Can someone please tell me what the hell happened at Motorla to make my phone like this??? I appreciate any help...

okay im not on this site a lot so you have to forgive me so im gonna post what i know. i came here when planning 2 buy my v635 to find out info on it and it was an alright decision. i got mine about 3 months ago on ebay for like 300. now its cheaper Y? i dont know but thats a good thing. 2 answer some questions battery life is okay depending on what you use the phone for. talking (a great deal) and mp3 player drains battery. camera is excellent, very good for a phone. everything works fine on mine. with recent calls you can see date and time. all that good stuff. mp3 player takes a while to load but plays fine, make sure that bitrate isnt more than 128.n the greatest memory card it takes i think is 256 which is what i have. uh phone is overall i think fine. but thats my personal opinion. u can put videos and stuff on here but im not sure how. u should try howardforums.com for more info on phones and stuff. hope this helps somebody. o n i recently learned about flashing your phone but im not sure if you would like 2 do this because it can permanently damage it n i think its allegal. im not takin dis chance. hope this helps. sorry its so long

Hi there ! Can anyone tell me how can be a camera 1.3 MP with a resolution of 1152x864 pixels ???? It's maybe just me but it looks like 1.0 MP . other that that I think this phone is great and if you don't like the picture or video rec. then why don't you buy a camcorder and digital camera ???? The camera and video is only on this phone for fun or to at least have something to capture those moments when nothing is handy ! Okay it's good also to get a little naughty too ..lol.. If you need a phone as camera and camcorder for your family vacation...well I think you shouldn't complain and be happy :)Try to buy a camcorder for hundred bucks and see what picture quality you will get ! As for the phone I think this one is as good as it gets for the money ! Except that ugly antenna ! And for those who have problems with the caller ID ....... why don't you take it to the service ? Very nice - have had it now for about 2 months. Original software (24R) was quite buggy, but the current firmware I have on it (6FR) is extremely stable, fast, and everything works. EXCELLENT RF - better (but not by a lot) than my Nok 6610, which is one of the benchmarks for RF quality. Blows the RAZR out of the water in this area. Good build quality - no complaints there. Needed to SEEM edit a few things to get it the way I wanted it, but I'm extremely satisfied. I wouldn't be surprised if Moto discontinued it because it makes the RAZR (aka V3) look like the b* stepchild that it is, when it comes to actual performance. Advantages include a better camera, EDGE (I get REAL performance very similar to a 2B ISDN connection), FAR better RF performance and a better formfactor, especially when you're actually USING (aka talking on) it. After all, if a phone doesn't work well as a PHONE - if you can't hold it comfortable and TALK ON IT, what good is it? How do you justify the V3 being more expensive when the V635 is just a better and more-full-featured unit? You don't - so you take the cheaper model out and shoot it so you don't kill your sales of the other one, especially when you just did a deal with a couple of big carriers to "push" the V3.... I'm ecstatically happy with the V635. Its not perfect, but as far as phones go, its one of the best I've ever laid hands or ears on, and for the price IMHO its unbeatable.

I am having some issues with call quality... the voice on the other lines goes up and down in volume constantly... I also noticed that the number of bars for the signal strength jumps around even though I am standing still!

Hi, This phone is quite good, the MP3 player though slow to load is good and the quality of the sound it makes through the speakers and headphones is excellent. All the usual things on the phone are good, storage space, options, menu set up. Call sound is clear though other people complain reception is quiet from their end. Pic quality and the screen is very crisp and clear. Only real downsides to it are that it is a bit bulky and bluetooth is incredibly slow and misses about 80% of people who have bluetooth active. It will take about 2 mins to transfer a meg file across from a phone whereas on other phones it is about 20 seconds. This is the same with the USB to phone data cable. Very slow transfer speeds The ability to add a T-Disk is excellent as you can transfer files onto that and put that in the phone and saves a lot of time.

Please, please would anyone tell me if they have been having any problems with storing MMS files to the phone handset or memory? My V635 keeps freezing every time I try to store a MMS file received from other phones (file sizes are only about 25kbs or 60kbs) and I have over 5,000kbs free space!! Okay for unlimited video recording. I switched my storage device to the transflash memory card. then go to menu, multimedia, videos, then bring up the videos menu and go to video setup. when ur there switch the video lenght from MMS to Maximum and that should do it.it worked for me. hope this helps.

Hello everyone!!! Just got my v635 Last week and it is an AMAZING fone!!! Love all the features! Only problem is video recording length :( mine is about 30seconds. I read other reviews and many people are having this problem except a few where they have unlimited recording until the memory is gone.I read some where that it is the software version?? my S/W version is R474_G_08.48.25R. Some say they have the 48.6CR software and that enables them to have unlimited video, is there a way for me to get this software for my v635?? i am in the uk and i dont know weather to try and download it and install or take it to a shop as i don't know how i am goin to get this done. Other than that the fone is amazing and is the best flip fone out! with its amazing 1.23 megapixel camera! The specs speak for themselves.

ONE VERY BIG DISADVANTAGE ON THIS PHONE you can not assign an mp3 ring tone that is store on the memory card to the phone for ring tone. you have to transfer it to the phone and then assign it as ringtone and i think this is one BIG disadvantage. i had 6670 and i loved it. you could do everything with that phone, but motorola always come up with something to make their phones inferior, always. if i am wrong or theres a way around it, please, tell me or post it here, [email protected] thanks

When I got my V635 I understood it to have unlimited video recording, obviously dependant upon the side of the memory card. However I can only record up to about 1 min and 3 seconds on my 128mb card. Someone else has posted on this forum that they could only get 2 mins 30ish which is much better than what I was getting. So I emailed Moto help desk and according to them and their paperwork, or in their exact words "literature,databases & website information" the phone only does 20 - 30 seconds of video recording. As Motorola put it..."The video capture time is between 20 to 30 seconds on the phone. The transflah card's functionality is to enhance the storage capability of the V635 and the transflash card will not further the ability of the video capture time." If this is the case why is it I can record just over a min and other users have posted they can record for longer than that? Do Motorola not know their own phone specs or is there is a fault in the software which makes it pot luck on how long you can record for? Other than the video problem I have had no problems with this phone, I expected to have a few after reading this forum, but am happy to say I can view called numbers and the numbers of people who called me, I have a calender and calculater and all of the other problems reported on this forum are not affecting my phone at all, I find it easy to use and while the side keys have been a problem I simply bought a neck strap so those keys are no longer accidently triggered to take photos.

Hi, I bought my V635 for $2,199.00TT. That's a lot! But the phone is worth it. A couple of the main features are excellent: (1) Mp3 Player (2) Video Recorder & Playback (3) Megapixel Camera (4) Bluetooth These are really great and work really well. However with Motorola phones what I notice is that the battery life isn't all that great. I am not saying that it is bad, but I am a guy who uses his cell phone very often and talk a lot on it. With the MotoV635, you have to charge your phone everyday and it takes a very long time to fully charge. Somewhere in the vecinity of 2-3 hours. Nokia phones are super for quick charging. But lets not talk Nokia here. What I can say again is that V635 is very stylish and looks very modern. It has a very executive look and I am very proud to be seen with my MotoV635 in public. My cell phone is more of an accessory to me and it serves me well. Motorola V635 is a great fone!

Alec, I live in BC and bought a v635 from eBay and am just waiting for it to be delievered, should be on Monday. I paid $330 CDN, which is better than $440 CDN from Rogers, plus it's an unlocked phone. The trick is finding a seller who is selling the phone with all of the other items that are meant to come with it in Canada (handset, stereo headset, manual, battery, charger, TransFlash card and USB cable). Anyway, that's where I bought mine from cuz the other sites I found would have ended up costing me just as much as buying from Rogers.

I love this phone. I modded the earpiece and speaker so it could ring louder. To use mp3's as ringtones, they must be short and stored on the phone memory. mp3's can only be played at 128kbps or the whole phone freezes and loses network etc. im going to exchange it for the samsune530. lovely for girls. i love the v635 but just had 3 replacments for the problems im having with the mp3 player. to turn the volume off press the up down arrow at the side oft he phone when the phone is open. the button on the side (camera one) cant be deactivated hence i keep getting pics of the inside of my handbag!!! to get mp3 ringtone u have to edit it in melody option in sounds. it has to be cut to size in that option. 20secs i think i plays, all u need really for the chorus!!!hope this helps

To dee, It might be because of dust. Take a sharp edged pin/blade and clean up the contacts. It should work. You have to do it regularly.

Lots of people asking about length of video. V635 has two settings: MMS which is about 10 seconds, and 'maximum'. You can set which mode in the 'Videos setup' menu. Longest I stored was about 60 secs. Note that video is saved to the Flash memory card in .3gp format so you will need to convert to avi or mpeg for pc viewing but there are freeware programs for that. Great phone!

Oh gee, I don't know why, except for the fact that the $600 Treo 600 cellphone/pda I bought last year (before the 650 with bluetooth came out) and am not ready to throw in the trash, has IRDA, and the sync cables have a nasty habit of breaking at the connector (planned obsolescence) so I'd like a wireless alternative for syncing it with my computer. When I need a new phone/pda, I'll upgrade to BT, but meanwhile, I need an IRDA dongle.

Brandy, and unlocked phone can work on ANY network. it is best u buy and unlock phone, cause if u get fed up of rogers network u can easily switch by changing sim cards. yes the unlocked phone will still give u all the features and benefits as if u was buying the phone from rogers. i dont no if rogers phone are unlocked, but i think its best u buy an unlocked phone, it can be use on ANY network. im still awaiting my unlocked moto v635, should be here this week.

Eric, Yeah, I had been reading up on the Samsung E700 but read tons of reviews where people were having trouble with the earpiece volume and battery life. The battery of the phone I have now (Moto C333) lasts about 12 hours on standby, if I'm lucky. So I want a phone that has all the bells and whistles AND great battery life. Also yes, I have heard complaints about the E700's camera too, so it seems a little useless to buy a camera phone if the camera is crappy, lol. I have heard positive things about the v600 but I want the latest, otherwise I may have gone for that one. But I guess there's no point in buying a v600 when a newer and more updated one (v635) is available:) And yes, Nokias are cute, but for some reason I'm a real flip-phone lover...I've always wanted one, and if I buy a v635 it will be my first flip:) I've always had candy bars and now I just want something cooler:) ~ Brandy

Thug, The v635 seems to be the best camera phone that Rogers is offering as far as specs and features, and for the most part the reviews I've read seem positive. I have no clue about unlocked phones, I don't quite understand the concept, and sites I've read about it haven't been helpful. I know unlocked phones are substantially cheaper, but I intend to use the Roger's network and just want to make sure I'd be able to use all of their services/features with my phone (text msging, downloading of graphics, ring tones, wallpaper..etc)? Mototola V635 is better , it is harder and durable, I used a Motorola V600 and Samsung E 700 V 600 - Extremely durable suitable for hard use , Still No problam at al, E 700 - Screen has dots, and has become darker , Lot of trouble even the camera starts flickerng for some times!! I think Moto V is better the Samsung E!! This is not a trash for samsung I am telling my real experience!! actually I am Nokia fan!! Best clam shells are from moto!! No doubt

I'm a Canadian using the Rogers network on a Pay As You Go plan. I currently have a Motorola C333 which I've had for almost 3 years (don't ask me how I've put up with it for that long, it's a piece of junk). I've been researching the v635 for a few days now and among all of the camera phones that Rogers offers, the v635 seems to be the best. I had the Motorola v635 for the 6 days now and I think that it is the best mobile phone that I have ever owned. Yeah it cost a little bit more but it is worth every last cent. The features are great and the service is wonderful. The GSM service here on the island isn't perfect but the phone itself works quite well despite the not so perfect service. I really like the video camera, the picture quality isn't all wowsy, but it gets the job done and the sound quality is great so that can be a bit of a compromise. The skins, wallpapers etc are really cool and very modern. I've downloaded pictures on my phone but I always seem to go back and put the base skins that came with the phone. I am very pleased with the look of the phone. It looks very modern and I think that it looks somewhat durable. I am very careful with my phone but it looks like it can take a beating. Lol! Anyways, I could go on and on about this phone but I should stop. So anyone interested in purchasing one, I say "Great Choice!".

had this phone for two weeks now, there is so much you can do with this phone !!! Been reading post in here too and i see some V635 owners needs a little bit of assistance like i was two weeks ago( i did research on this phone to set it all up into my likings). For the english manual click on the icon that says manual right below the picture on upper left corner, fill in the necessary information...then download the manual. note: it requires acrobat reader to view the manual. Next, for t-mobile users who has internet, u need to call support for gprs activation; one more thing, you dont have to buy the USB for V635 i bought the one for V600 installed it by going to www.mobileaction.com for the driver and also the software...it works really good. For transferring mp3 to ur t-flash, u only need a memory card reader i recommend downloading an mp3 converter for compressing mp3 files, i have 20+ full song in my original 32 mb memory. For anything else, do ur own research too, its a lot of fun working with this phone.

You can add this to the classics - V60, V600 and now V635 I've had this phone for 6 months - and it rocks! It has excellent RF The ear-piece is loud and clear Speakerphone sounds good - you can even close the flip and keep talking The camera is awesome - pretty good for a phone - I tried printing stuff at Walgreens and the prints came out to be pretty good. The video camera is also good - the best I've seen on a phone The small screen can show pictures of callers There is no end to all that has been improved from V600. Oh, I was disappointed about the glowing light ring that they took out - otherwise buy this phone!

I purchased the v635 and have used it for 4 weeks now. I am very impressed. I previously had an MPx220, which I stopped using because Motorola did not produce an in-car cradle with an antenna connection. I liked the MPx220 and still use it from time to time in urban areas with good coverage. I first bought the v620 - also a good phone, the external ring lights are really cool. Sound quality is outstanding and signal reception is very good. But my Dad's v551 died and I gave it to him and ordered the v635. The v635 is an unbranded, unlocked phone that I use on Cingular here in GA. I have an in-car handsfree kit and cradle for it. Works great! The internal screen display is better than the MPx220 and the sound qulity from both the ear-piece and speakerphone is the best I have heard yet. Signal reception is outstanding - I have no dropped calls with this phone. Downside - this phone is unbranded...meaning you need to have some technical knowledge to modify the settings to really get the most of it here in the USA. You have to manually set up the GPRS connection for Cingular along with the MMS settings and Port numbers. The most annoying is the Voice Mail indicator - which I finally fixed, but it required downloading 2 pieces of software - P2Kman and XVI32 editing software. This is hacking is not really difficult, but if you don't know what you're doing, you can render the phone useless. But having it set correctly, this is the best phone I have ever had.

take your phone to the o2 shop and ask them about this problem. doesn't sound normal at all, cld be a faulty phone as far as I'm concerned ..but it's best to check with o2 themselves just in case they expect you to do something (i.e. registering) to activate the phone first before you use it (in which case is what's causing the black and white screen).

Hi everyone, had motolra V635 for 4 days on o2 contract, i tried to turn it on one morning and all i got was a bacl and white flashing screen, this is all it does. I have tried charging it for 2 horus as advised but nothing worked. Any ideas?. Tom [email protected]

I have recently purchased a Motorola V635. I successfully transferred an MP3 to the phone but when i came to play the MP3, the song gets so far through and then stops, the screen turns white and then returns to the home screen. Has anyone else had this problem and if so how do you solve it?

I'm in the U.S. (Indiana), and purchsed a V635 on ebay. I rcvd it w/ a French manual. I use a Cingular SIM card. Most all the features work well, however I've not yet tried to set up the IM and I haven't used the MP3 features. The one problem I'm having now is that I can not download or send multi-media text messages. When I try to send/rcv pictures, it fails. Any ideas why or what can be done about it?

The USB cable that comes with it is, well,,,not worth using! I can't get the driver to work, plug in the phone and the PC askes for a driver, point the PC in the direction of the SO CALLED cd-rom and Hay-Presto, no driver found on CD. Motorola tell me that it's because the CD is a trial version and most probably wouldn't work with Win98 SE2. Total waist of time!!!!!!!!!!!

i've had this phone 3 months now and at first i thought it was total pants.however it has some clever features such as being able to download music tracks mp3s and use them as ring tones and the memory card facilty which gives you lots more storage. but on the negative side the actual build quality of the phone is poor and i've had problems plugging in both the usb and the charger leads, was getting no contact at all with either of them .so now i have to clean the brass connector on the base of the phone with a cotton bud and a squirt of wd40 every couple of days and i really shouldn't have to do that with a �300 phone. the last time i had a motorola was a star tac about 6-7 years ago and i think it will be as long again before i get another.the last 2 phones i had were both samsung -i should have made it 3 in a row and got a d500 or an e720. motorola v635 -good functions ,excellent camera quality wrapped up in a very poor quality case. 5/10

Well I ended up buying the phone and what I see so far I love it!!! Only problem is that i'm having issues connecting to my computer via the USB cable. I don't really want to buy a bluetooth dongle if i can get the cable to work. Seems there is a compatability issue with windows not recognising the driver. Is there anything I can do?

Hi all, I have just bought the Motorola V635 but I have a problem playing MP3 files: the phone crashes without any reason and in a non-predictable way (not always the same song, not always the same point) with both the "Audio Player" and the Java "MP3 Player". The screen became white and after a couple of seconds returns to the usual background. I didn't understand yet if it is a software bug or it is a problem reading the Transflash card (or something else). The crash occurs after few second of many minutes, there's no rule. I have had my V635 for nearly 3 months now and i would seriously recommend this phone! (R u listenin Maree??) The camera is decent enough compared with a lot of phones, the only camera thats better is the SonyEriksson S700, but that phone has its own problems such as a plasticky feeling and scratches easily. If ppl are that bothered about picture quality then they should really invest in a digital camera. the motorola does pics nicely enough for snaps, its doubtful anybody would use a camera phone for pictures to hang on a wall anyway! The mp3 player is adequate, if u want more songs to play, then jus invest in a bigger memory card. Battery life is decent, any phone's battery is enough if u charge every nite. Nothing too groundbreaking with the design, but very motorola, so should please motorola fans. on a plus side as well, the phone is not as common as other phones with similar specs, so it has a more exclusive feel to it. The only flaws i can think of it is the areial which relects the flash when taking pics in the dark, this can be overcome if u remove the areial when taking nite pics. Then again, taking pics at nite with camera phone doesn't give good pics whatever the phone. Overall i give this phone the thumbs up!! (thats jus my opinion, others can disagree if they want, at the end of the day its a matter of personal taste!)

Dave, you need your phone to comunicate with your computer via a Bluetooth Dongle or a USB Datacable, and then transfer the files across into the appropriate folder located on your phone :-)

Hi guys One more thing about #2. This only happens when the phone is closed. If I have the phone open and I receive a txt msg, the complete sound byte plays without cutting off. Hi guys I have a few questions about this phone. 1) Does anyone know how to get rid of the ringtones and pix that have the lock by them? 2) When I assign a ringtone or sound clip to my Txt msgs, it cuts it off in the middle while I am receiving the txt msg. I never had that problem with the V300. Anyone know how to correct this? 3) The wallpapers I had on my V300 that I downloaded to the V635 come out very distorted as wallpapers. I am guessing due to the pixels or whatever. Anyone know how to correct THIS problem? :) Any info on any or all of the above questions would be greatly appreciated. Hi, I was hoping if anyone could solve this problem for me! I was told to that to view video clips on the v635 from the net they have to be converted to MPEG4 first. The thing is i have tried it and converted the clips i want but when i go to play them it comes up with the message "file is corrupted delete file yes/no" and it does that for every clip i want to view but none of them ever work!! does anyone know how to solve this? thx

for "ANNOYED!" the phone numbers have to be saved to the actual phone memory in order to save picture files to them. you can't save picture files to your sim card. i'm not sure what it was you did with the overwrite stuff but my guess is your numbers are gone.

Regarding a few questions I have seen: 1. As of now, Motorola has not released any faceplates for this phone, but I believe that they will. Currently, metalfaceplates.com sells a few powder-coated plates in colors like sky blue, etc. 2. The inside screen is 262K colors - some sites say only 65k, but that is incorrect. I would suggest that anyone who has questions reads the forums at phonescoop.com, this site, and howardforums.com.

just got the phone last night.. after having a straight forward Samsung E700.. and since transfering sims i have lost half my numbers ! The numbers were all orginally saved to sim and were all there when i first turned on V635 - but then when i tried to save a photo to a phonebook entry it said that i needed to have entries saved to phonebook. So then i played wiv fire & started to merge/overwrite & all sorts! Now i have hardly any numbers ! Have I lost these for ever???? Please help

3rd question: turned the phone off lastnight and when I switched it back on the clock had gone back to factory setting. I tried the "Auto update" function but the phone told me that function was not available, does that mean that I will have to reset the clock if I switch the phone off for several hours? thx

I'm quite happy with the phone but I can't transfer a track from mycomputer to the phone and then the option to use it as a ringtone. I see it in the list but where pre-installed tunes are they have 2 symbols by them but the sound clip I transferred only has 1 symbol, like a loudhailer for sound. The phone plays the track but it sounds really rough. I tried to put the track through my mediaplayer some sort of MP3 converter but when I did that the converted file didn't appear in the screen from where it would transfer to the phone. That's the same for my video files in PC - they don't show up so can't put any of them in the phone either. What am I doing wrong? PS. I havent even started trying to work out the player yet ... Anyone who can help me here please email me? Thank you

Got this phone around 3 weeks ago & I have not experienced any problems with the phone at all, phone got some excellent features, camera is excellent, video record & playback is very good, mp3 player is one of the best Ive seen on a mobile phone, Bluetooth is easy to use & links up easy with my computer. Overall a good phone & with the option of expanding the memory with a TRANSFLASH card (currently upto 256mb) the phone is a better choice than the lot of the phones currently around with limited memory. Definatly better than the V3 RAZOR!!!

Very nice phone. Bluettoth works great with my Axim and my Laptop...sound quality very good...mp3 player is nice, but they should have included some extras...headphones would have been nice...wish I could use an mp3 from the transflash as a ringtone without chopping it and moving it to main memory...solid feel...tight phone. Best I've used yet...even after three pocket pc phones...rather pricey still...good loudspeaker...awesome camera...best on any phone I've ever seen...I wish it was easier to set it up...not used to using that silly MMS text stuff to enter all my servers and stuff...this phone really rocks though. :)

Am I missing something guys? There is a 32mb sd card and 128mb sd card. Only the 32mb fits inside the phne on which it only hols 5 mp3's on. How do I use the 128mb in the phone? Or cant I?

Download mp3 tracks to your computer, and then transfer them to your phone via usb using the transflash card as the default connection on the phone - or transfer mp3's that you already have stored on your computer in the same way. As others have pointed out, the phone can only handle mp3's at a bitrate of 128kbs or less. You can check the bit rate before transfer to the phone by right-clicking the file and bringing up "properties". Some music sites let you chose bitrates (quality) for your downloads depending on your internet connection. You might need to experiment.

Gwen - To increase earpiece volume during a call, press the upper part of the long thin button on the right hand side of the phone as you look at it. This is the higher (and biggerr) one of two buttons actually on the side of the case itself, not inside the clamshell. What is probably happening is that when you are gripping the phone to talk you are pressing the lower part of this button, which will bring the earpiece volume down. You will only be able to adjust the volume during a call, as the button has different functions at other times - ring volume and ring style depending on whether the clamshell is open or closed. Does anyone know any way of disabling these buttons? They can be so annoying when you hit them accidently, as others have pointed out.....

Absolutly an excellent phone! Camera is great, flash is a mini flashlight also, and the built in mp3 player just adds up on the alredy great phone! Not to mention a trans-flash card you get with the phone-it can be used in your digital camera as a SD-card! Motorola has done a great job!

can anyone please help! I've got the phone now and its great but i'm having a few problems!! 1) I uploaded mp3's to the memory card and it plays them but for some it doesn't, it says system error! why do some work and some don't? 2) How do you send pics, videos etc via bluetooth? How does it work? Is it something to do with the headset provided or not? I tryed moving a pic/vid via bluetooth and it said bluetooth link is busy, what do i do? 3) I uploaded a video onto the memory card which was 23mb and it was an mpeg and it transferred it properly. But when i try to access it on the phone, the video isn't there but it still takes up the space on the card, where the hell does it go? What format do i have to convert it to in order for it to work? plz could someone answer these!

Had this 2 days now. excellent phone, feels like it wont snap in my hand like the v550 did, feels strong. keeps freezing on me though, usually through looking at mi pictures or reading messages. the end call/switch off fone button also crashed on me yesterday, had to switch whole phone off, but worked fine when i turned it back on, whats that all about? loudspeaker is one of the best ive heard, crystal clear, even when playing mp3s. camera is great as is video. the mobile phone tolls cd has stopped working for me, loads 3/4 then says that it is missing something? dont know about that, may have to buy a new cd. the 6000mb on fone is enough, for pictures and short videos, i have 300 pics and 3 short videos and still have over 1000 mbs left. yet,16mb of removable memory is not much. i can only fit 2 songs on it? some one told me that you have to compress the files, does anyone know how to do that? im not too sure. HELP REQUIRED. all in all, excellent phone except for a few minor complaints.

Not sure what the problem is with recent calls - I might be missing something - but the "view" option is assigned to the righ-hand soft key. When you select "Received calls" or "Dialled Calls" from the recent calls menu, a list of calls comes up and the right soft key changes from "select" to "view". Scroll to the call that you want to know about, press "view" and you get the name (if stored), number, time, date and duration.

No, you do not need to install the software to move files to your card. It could be a few things from what I read. There have been issues with COM port 3 needing to be open. Are you trying to save to the phone or the memory card? Also, the disk does contain software but it is hidden within all the ads. The best way is to go to the CD via Windows Explorer and double-click the setup.exe

hey there, does anyone here know how to upload the pics taken which are in your phone to the pc? The transflah card can be removed after sliding back the outer metal cover on the front of the phone, and then it can be inserted in the slot on top of the SD adaptor, and then the adaptor itself is inserted into a card slot on whatever device you are using. I use it myself as I have trouble with the USB connection for some reason. I also use a PDA which has a much larger screen for viewing any high resolution photo's that I have taken with the phone, but if you don't know what the SD adaptor is for then you obviously don't have any SD card devices and you will be better off just leaving the transflash card inside the phone and leaving the adaptor in its box.

Get it! Get it!! It's a great phone! All the functions are easy to find... and if you don't think they are... you can change them to a place that suits you!!! It comes with a 16Mb flashcard which gives you a lot of extra memory but you can get cards with up to 256Mb which are compatible too and these can be found for very good prices if you can be bothered to look! The Mobile Phone Tools CD that comes with is great, you can even call people up from your PC! But I found it very useful because it helps you cut parts of your favourite tunes to use as ringtones which I think is cool! Also USB makes transferring everything so quick and so easy. The camera's fantastic - the main reason I changed to Motorola in the first place and so glad I did. Video footage is also outstanding. There isn't a To-do List which is a bit of a pain, but I can either set up an individual alarm for any particular task I have to do, which is a new feature, or set it up as an event in the calendar and set a reminder on there. Texting is very easy, predictive and normal, and once you�ve entered a new word or smiley, there it is in the menu! It is a little annoying that all the phone numbers come up individually in the phone book, but you soon get used to it, and I think it�s fab that if you assign ringtones to specific people, you get a brief sample when they TEXT you too! All in all this is one of the best phones I have ever had. The only thing even slightly wrong is the battery life, but it lasts long enough for me, and if it's not long enough for you then charge it every night :-)

Had this a few days, it all looks pretty good except the reason I purchased this over other phones was for the mp3 player. Got it home only to find they haven't included the USB cable or the headphones. Had a look at the price of them and have decided the phones going back! Shame coz this would have been ace otherwise.

At the moment I believe the highest caoacity transflash card available is 256megs, but that is boung to change in due course. Does anyone else have trouble with the USB connection when using the transflash as default? I find my computer (Athlon 2000 with 640Megs Ram, running XP sp2)locks up while the phone "Pings" at 5 second intervals with a message on its screen saying "to access transflash card from phone, disconnect USB cable" - or words to that effect....Weird!

Had the V635 for about a week now. In general, I'm very pleased with it. Very easy to upload MP3's and image files. Couple of gripes though... A) the instruction manual does clarify enough. How do you set up IM?? Please mail me if you know. B) I cant view videos transfered to my pc. None of the programmes recognise the file format. C) The buttons on the side!! How many random photos being taken in my pocket??

As of now, motorola phone can only play mp3 encoded in 128kbps bit rate or less. Anything above 128kbps(does not equal to 128) will give you an error message. However, 128kbps still gives good quality music on a stereo headset.

[email protected], regarding your MP3 question. Did you get the USB cable with your phone ? All I did was plug that into my PC and on the V635 select USB as the data source and the memory card in the phone appears as a drive on the Pc, then you can drag your MP3's into the audio folder on the phone's memory card and play them. As someone else said the MP3's have to be 128 or less, I stuck some 196 ones on and got system errors on the handset. Hope that helps a little ?

Selecting "change" then brings up all the pictures that I have stored on the phone. This will only work for contacts and pictures stored on the phone. To avoid seeing double entries all the time if you want to keep contacts on both phone and sim, you can put all your phone enties into the vip category and use this as your default phone book. The only real gripe I have with his phone after a week's use is the buttons on the side which I keep activating every time I pull the thing out of my pocket! I have some very weird photographs!! There must be a way of deactivating these so I guess I am going to have to bite the bullet and read the manual.....

Managed to sort out the picture phone book question, it would appear that you have to save them in the phone memory, then select the picture from the pictures section and you have an option to apply to address book entry. It works this way but not if you select the phone book entry and try to apply the picture from there.. Strange ! Also does anyone have a odd feeling flip ? I can't really describe it, it just feels like it's catching on something. It's not as smooth as my old V500 flip and wondered whether it was just the way the flip is made ? Please answer as I'm in two minds about returning the phone.

i got this phone 3 weeks ago and tried using the video camera, which i have 256mb transflash on it, the video can only take 20 seconds to record and then it freezes. i use the maximum as its options for recording as well as the transflash to save the video. is this the real thing?

Official says this phone has 5MB internal memory just like Motorola V600. I checked, it actually has over 11MB internal memory, over 7MB available for user. Also, for people who have trouble listening to mp3 they transfered over from PC. Motorola only support mp3 encoded in bit rate less than or equal to 128kbps. Hence, any mp3 encoded with over 128kbps will not function on this phone, you will receive system error message. I have calculated the data transfer rate through edge on this phone. I get no more than 14.6KBps transfer rate and I'm using Cingular service. So it's actually 2x faster than 56K Modem instead of 3x faster as it is advertised. (56K/8=7kbps, 7x2=14 means 2x faster) The UK version of Motorola V635 I purchased online does not include data cable, CD and stereo earphone(I was told by the authorized dealer). The phone is unbranded and that maybe the reason why those accessories were not included. You can purchase stereo headset from ebay for less than $14USD and bluetooth USB adapter for less than $25USD.

I have found that the most efficient way to read data from the transflash card and transfer to/from a pc is via a device that can read from an SD card, using the SD adaptor with comes with the transflash card boxed with the v635. Multi-card readers for pc's cost less than �15.00 in the UK if you do not already have an SD card equipped device. Having said that, I also find the Bluetooth connection works well and makes a robust connection with the headset. I have also managed to transfer data to and from a xda with no problems.

I'm not the leather case or holster, but the back case for battery and memory card. Black chromed V635 looks far more superior than any phone on the market :D

I was transfering approximately 14MB mp3 files via bluetooth from my computer. The speed was 14.0kbps, rarely it went upto 14.6kbps. I'm not sure if it's the maximum data transfer speed Edge offers on this phone. I don't have another phone so I can't compare the speed from other non-edge phone.

I copied a 5MB mp3 file into the audio file located in MMC(removable). However, I can't listen to it, there was an system error message. I looked at the detail, it's 228KBps. When I use mobile toolkit and transfer it, I can listen to it. However, the detail of that mp3 is only 32 mono now. Does anyone know what's going on? What's the highest KBps mp3 does Motorola V635 support?

Just to correct my post below - The option to resize pictures appears to be only available to those files stored on the transflash card, so if you have originals that you want to keep as best quality and also use as phone number attachments, it would be best to save them to another device or make a copy and then resize and copy/move to the phone memory....Phew!

To turn your own mp3's into ringtones you will have to store them in the phone memory rather than the transflash. If you already have them on your translflash it is easy to copy or move them to the phone memory by selecting multimedia > sounds, then navigating to the sound you want to use and pressing the top middle button again to bring up all the options for that sound file and selecting "copy" or "move". Once that file is in the phone memory, pressing the middle button again will bring up the option to switch storage devices so that you will be able to see your mp3 amongst all the preloaded stuff. Pressing the options button once again with your mp3 selected will show you a menu that includes "Apply as ring tone". You can also apply individual ring tones to phone book entries with options in the phonebook menu. Remember that you only have 5 megs of phone memory, so keep your mp3 ring tones as short as possible. Regarding the ealier post about assigning pictures to phone book entries, it sounds like the phone memory might already be full which is not allowing you to save anything more. Try deleting or moving any mp3's or pictures/vids that might be stored there. If you already have pictures saved to the phone there is the option to resize them which appears to recompress the files but still perfectly adequate for displaying on the device. This saves a lot of space but make sure you save them somewhere else if you want to view them on a larger screen or make them available for printing. By the way, I don't work for Motorola - I am just delighted with this phone having had to put up with the stylish but inadequate v3 until o2 agreed to exchange it!

Just upgraded to V635 from a V500 and it's much the same phone except for the additional features ( if that makes sense ). One question, how do I attach pictures to phonebook entries ? The manual tells you to store them on the trans card but if you do that when you try to choose the photo within the phonebook it only looks at the internal memeory. If you put the picture on the internal memory you can select it but it will not save it.. It's driving me nuts !

If you want to use mp3's as ringtones, take out your flash card, and connect the USB cable into the phone. Use Mobile Phone tools and install the mp3's onto the phone memory. It should work. If you leave the Flash card inside, it confuses the phone and makes it thinking it is a Flashcard drive.

In theory, to copy mp3 files from computer to the v635, it is best to use the transflash card as the default usb connection. You can configure this on the phone from settings > connection > usb connections, and selecting "memory card" instead of "Data/Fax". Then with Motorola's rather flaky software installed on your computer, connect the phone with the usb cable and it should appear as another drive on your computer, with several folders one of which is labeled audio. From then on it is just a copy and paste job. In practise I have found it very frustrating trying to get my computer to recognise the phone, but I have managed it using this sequence: 1. Run the phone tools software without the phone connected, and ignore all pop-ups. 2. connect the phone while it is switched off. 3. Switch on the phone. This is the only way I can get it to work, but even then it might need more than one attempt. Sometimes a computer reboot is required!

its easy to stick mp3's on, when u use the usb cable, to sync with the PC, put the mp3s in the audio folder on the transflash card, and when u disconnect they will appear in the sounds folder

You need to purchase the data cable with software CD. There are tons available on ebay. Just search "Motorola V600" I know it's V635 but ask the seller for the compatibility before buying.

I tried the both video and camera video record. For some reason, at around 2:10min, the record would automatically stop. I tried 5 time, each ended on it's own with different length. The longest is 2:45 min. I thought video record is unlimited. I put max record length in the setting, and I have more than enough memory. Anyone know why? Also what's the fastest way to transfer music or photos from phone to PC or PC to phone?

Have had this phone for 10 days. On the whole very pleased with it. Mine was Uk supplied on orange and did come with a usb cable and software (free) which works fine after upgrading (also free)allowing integration with outlook and backup of numbers etc. Camera is ok for outdoor use for a phone and has 8x zoom, but the flash is permanently on when selected and causes the picture to be badly lit due to a reflection issue. Video camera works better than I expected. A very versatile phone though, ringtones are incredible and the phone memory is quite adequate as you can move your ringtones, pics, videos etc to the transflash card for later use or upload/download them onto the pc. Transflash up to 256mb is available for about �30 and this should be enough for numerous photos etc. Although it is quite heavy and bulky compared to some, it does feel very solid and robust with a very high quality feel to it. I think it is good value for money and appears built to last.

I had this phone for about a week but had to send it back as every time I tried to play an mp3, the phone would crash, the screen would go white and then the phone would go back to the home screen. After this, I could not start the mp3 player for about five minutes as a message came up stating application expired. Motorola UK told me that a possible solution would be to reset the clock, however, this did not do anything. I doubt this is a fault with all v635's, as no one else has complained about this. The camera was good, however, it is not as good as the Samsung d500, as there is slight blurring around the edges, however, it is far better than the MPx220. There is a serious design fault with the phone, there is a small "lump" of silver plastic on top of the phone to help hold the back cover on, however, with the flash on this "lump" reflects some light into the lens of the camera and puts a bit of a glare in the bottom right corner of the photos. One way of preventing this is to hold the flap closed a bit. Also, there is a bit of rubber on the top of the phone by the hinge, which was not present on the V600 and actually puts minor scratches on the front of the phone, which probably won�t bother many. Also, you can not view your photos as thumbnails as you can on Samsung phones (at least I haven�t found a way), plus when viewing them they appear a bit distorted, but do not when transferred onto your PC. The PC Phonetools are great. Sadly, it takes forever to transfer 1 mp3 over the supplied data cable. If you want to use the picture phonebook, the photos of the people must be stored on the phones 5mb of internal memory, not on the Transflash card. The same is for mp3 ringtones. I am now debating which phone to get, the Samsung e720 or the v635.

Transferring mp3 via bluetooth is very slow, a 6mb track took about 50 min, for mp3 ringtones, you need to transfer the track into the phones memory, if you copy to memory card, you wont have the option to select as ringtone, which is quite rubbish as the internal memory is only 5mb. The camera is quite good, but the best part of the phone is the screen, it is so clear. video recording is in 3gp format, length is unlimited depending on memory, quality is better than most phones out at the moment (maybe its the same, but the 262K screen makes it look better than others). theres a 'java' mp3 player in this phone, you can create playlist just like ipod, but works very slow, playing a track takes quite same time to start. when listening to mp3s through the headphones which were included, the sound is not very good, there no EQ settings, but when playing through loud speaker, the sound is very clear and sound better. unlike the v600, this phone works perfect, no lags yet and respond very fast when pressing the keys, only when turning on the camera there a 2 sec delay. the phone quite big and heavy, overall the best phone iv used, only dissapointment is transferring data with bluetooth, which took a long time for me.

The motorola site does have details about this phone!! You can always look up the details you require. It does have a USB port, it will download calendar items from outlook and has a light for the camera. The MP3 player seems fine, I have not used it much so can't say how it affects battery life. The amount of tracks you can store will depend on how much memory you throw at it.

I got this phone the other day, so far i'm happy with it. But could someone tell me if its definately 252k display or 65k?? There's been all sorts of suggestion about the display between different sources. the screen is definately better than the V600 that i had. Its a bit bulky but at least then i know its in my pockets and not been mugged or dropped it. On a plus side, the phone is easy to use, and connecting to a pc is so much easier than my nokias, no software installation needed, jus plug and play. on paper, this is a top-notch phone, design may be lacking some imagination but if u like your V-series, this phone is worth considering.

I know this is a much belated response but for my original post I was saying how it seems like the U.S. is always last in getting new technology in general like electronics and gadgets. Everything seems to come out in Asia or Europe first and that pisses me off. I wasn't saying IR was new technology I know it's not but lots of people still use IR and if the other companies can provide it why can't Motorola. You can think of it as backward compatibility if you want. And Bluetooth is not even all that. They don't even have standardized testing for Bluetooth for mobile phones so there's no guarantee that bluetooth on one phone will work up to the same standard as on another phone. There are some uncertainties to it. But there is nothing uncertain about the IR port on my laptop not being able to work with this phone! Laptops are still being made with IR ports and lots of people find it works fine so why should we stop using it. Why not include as many options as you can for the consumer? It's like those crappy cameras on almost all cellphones. You can't do much with them but it's still nice to have JUST IN CASE. And I think having IR is more useful than those cameras. Thank you.

Teddy & Crusader VS The Dude & Alpha-Q : I had 3 (Motorola) phones with IR and never used the damn thing in my life. Now I have a V525 with bluetooth and it came handy quite a few times. Bluetooth dongle is 20-30 EUR so you can connect real cheap and easy to ANY PC or Mac or Amiga (if any left). If all of your gadgets have IR then I think you should really get out of the cave and upgrade. Maybe replace your steam engine with some real car (or bike) ? I am sick and tired of people talking trash just to be noticed, or to decrease the value of something. Outdated technology is irrelevant. Self-improve and adapt man ! How can a top of the line phone not include IR as a feature? Laptops are as prevalent and commonplace as desktop computers nowadays and they are unable to provide this basic feature to most of their phones. They can never get it completely right. They ALWAYS have to leave something out. I hate that. And if the U.S. is the most powerful and richest country in the world how come it seems like we're always LAST to get new technology???

little e. the phone has a Tflash slot. you can put 2 or more cd's on the phone depending on the memory size you got. I think they just released 256mb Tflash cards so memory is no big deal. I like what I see and I am waiting for more info on the release date.

Don't expect to much of the camera. For physical reasons the lens size limits the quality of the picture. They could put 10Mpixels in there, but would only get more noise, sorry friends... It's not for fun that 'real' cameras have large lenses... All Phonecameras i know off have lenses that make the quality close to a pinholecamera... VGA is stretching the limit already...

Motorola just made a 'winner' (V600) even better. Short term phone (like most) as it lacks UMTS which will be the standard from hereon. But I suppose who would want a small screen which would not be best suited for the UMTS services. Still worth selling my V600 and upgrading..well sort of.

This will be the next phone to replace my current v690. I wonder when will it be available in SINGAPORE? MOTOROLA joins in the basic feature trend way too late than other makers such as LG,MITSUBISHI,MiTAC and NOKIA to include upgradable memory with mega-pixel cam. I guess this is why MOTOROLA looses its charm to most consumers. The same thing compares to SONY ERICSSON when it comes to offer BLUETOOH in cheaper phone price tag. Funny, I just went from the V600 to the V3. Maybe two months until I pay it off, but ya know what, I'm gonna have it for the next 2yrs because I can't upgrade until then. Hell, if I feel like gettin' a new phone, I'll pay for it. Its for me, so its worth it. I just discovered I like cell phones a lot.

For the aerial you can always buy a stubby antenna from ebay, What other phone do you know that has 1)memory card, 2)1,3 megapixel cam 3)removable covers 4)262k 176x220 screen, And all in the same size of the V600, only thing that comes close is the Gx30(i've got it and its shit) and the samesung d500 (and thats a samsung, says it all!)
