  • I,ve been doing the same here in Europe, NL, no updates of the maps and my phone is still in warranty? I was told bij Dutch support that there will be no update for the maps for nokia 2710 phone. I use it as backup gps and for gps tracking (nice tool from german site).

  • For the guy thats need to flash the Nokia 2710, look for infomation about "Phoenix", with this program you can make a Software updating.

  • I was considering buying this nokia but after I reed your post I have some concerns. I do not want to buy a phone which its gps will never be updated. So I ask you, There will be no more updates for any map? or just for the australian map? I suspect the map updates would be the same for both S40 and S60 in spite of having different interfaces so map updates should not stop. Besides, even this is an outdates cell phone there are newer s40 cell phones with nokia maps (and with tv ads which shows nokia maps) and it is hard to believe that will never be any more map updates.

  • My Nokia 2710 has bin givin me problem of no blutooth and radio functionin and want 2 flash it bt it has not being to flash pls how can l flash it.

  • What processor (CPU) does this phone have?

  • I have been trying to download updated Australian map for the past 13 months. Now I am told that no new maps are available and will never be. The test I have used for a upgraded map is for the inclusion of a now 18 month old, 5.4 km, six lane section of the Gateway Motorway near the Brisbane Airport (Queensland Australia). I am told that my 13 month old phone is obsolete. They are still on sale in Queensland. Nokia call centre is useless. Poor phone lines and English appears to be a third language if that. They speak to fast and are not willing to comply with their sales blurb about lifetime map upgrades. Apparently the Nokia phone uses #2x mapping and cannot use the #4x upgraded mapping for the later more expensive phones. Nokia are reviewing my complaint this weekend since I sent two emails to Finland head office and I am about to lodge formal complaints to the ACCC and fair trading over misleading and deceptive conduct. Their solution is for me to purchase a new far more expensive phone if I want an updated map even though the 2710 comes with lifetime free map updates! Nokia care service cannot supply you with the phone number of their service agents, their Australian office, nor their legal representative in Australia or much else. Every person you talk to or try to talk to has always have to refer to somebody else for an answer but will not let you speak to them directly. These international phone companies do themselves little good with such impossible service. Just because hey want to produce a new model phone week by week they also want to make your phone obsolete very soon after you purchase it. At least Microsoft give warnings as to when they consider you operating system not supported. Why has Nokia not recalled all of their obsolete phones from stores around the world? Especially when they carry the message free lifetime map upgrades which will never happen?

  • @Bongani - Nokia maps uses the phone's data/3G connection to download maps if not loaded onto the phone. Check via the OVI suite that you download SA map and install on phone.

  • Hi my name is bongani. I bought the nokia 2710 navigator 2 days back. I only viewed the map once, it was perfectly working, then i exited the map, next time when i use it, it only displays the red dot on a yellow space even in town(PTA). Please help. [email protected]

  • Nokia 2710 Navigation Edition is a great amazing phone. It Symbian S40 but it does almost all thing the S60 does except Office doc and wifi.Super value phone.I used to have Nokia e90 communicator. I have Nokia 2700 Navi for 2 weeks and ....I love it!!!!!!!!

  • Positives first; this phone has a very nice feel to it, the buttons are really good. Negatives; gps maps are basic an does not compare with the version on the C5. Any phone no matter how basic should have volume control buttons and most importantly should be able to minimize apps..

  • you can use first download load the country map from ovi map , then go to the setting , uncheck the internet option , and check gps option. and enjoy the gps service for free

  • You can install Java apps (I did), but not Symbian apps. It runs on Nokia's S40 OS.

  • yes, you are right. no service charges to use gps, better still: no network connection needed, also works at sea. the preloaded maps are very detailed and contain markers for post offices, museums, hospitals etc. gps is very accurate (you can tell at which side of the street you are), although it can take a long time to get a first location fix (several minutes). after that, if you didn't move too far, a new fix is quickly established. it also has a compass. you can download additional maps (70+ countries) for free and install over usb. preloaded maps depend on region where you bought it (i bought it in china, so i have china preloaded).

  • Can anybody guide about its GPS / navigation function. I do not want to pay charges for service provider GPS assistance(A-GPS). Will it show locations, maps(preloaded) by direct communication with satellite or not display. I am confused about its free navigation lifetime what nokia told. It means lifetime we will have free location, maps view by GPS communication with satellite. Am i right. Please light on such issues.

  • At the fisrt moment the phone is fast and great. BUT..... the engineers have been drinking too much - there are no microphone hole, not in buttons, not in any side, there just doesn't exist such thing! And that brings another problem, microphone is hidden behind housing and other people have difficulties to hear me. :( I'm really disappointed, this is the last Nokia phone in my life. No more Nokia. :(

  • NO-way-KIA Support... Here's something to watch out for. I'm in New Zealand. Yesterday I rang the local NOKIA FreePhone Support number to ask about a possible firmware update for my wife's (Nokia) phone, but that's another story. While I was on the call, I asked about a firmware update for my 2710C. I know there's an update on the Nokia website. Anyway, here's the drill. First, they ask you to key in *#06# on your phone's keypad. This is the code to look up the Electronic Serial Number. You then have to read the Serial Number out to them. No SN, No Support! (Which was why I couldn't get any help on my wife's phone, since she had it at the time.) Ok, I suppose, with the number of stolen phones in circulation, that's fair enough. I don't really object to that. Here's what I do object to: When I read back the SN for my 2710, the "Support" Tech told me, "Oh, this phone was originally sold into Singapore, you'll have to send it back there for any service." "That's fairly inconvenient, I said." But that's Nokia's position on providing service for my phone. In spite of the fact that it was legally purchased in New Zealand, from a fully legal business operating out of a shop in Auckland, New Zealand's largest city, under the New Zealand Government's Parallal Importing legislation. All perfectly legal and above board. But NOKIA says, Sorry, we won't give you any (telephone) support. Well, guess what? In this Global Day and Age, where air travel is the way to get around the planet, that's not good enough. That's the last time I'll buy a new NOKIA phone, at least without making very sure the competition doesn't offer something equally good. I only bothered with NO-kia this time because I'm familiar with them, but to hell with that. With policies like that, I'll learn a new phone operating system before I buy another NO-kia. Check out the local NO-kia Support policies before you buy - or buy another brand!

  • Egde 32 is way more faster :-)

  • great phone at this price and good shapeas well but it must be a symbian phone rather than a java.

  • Perfect phone for this price.

  • hi is EDGE Class 10, 236.8 kbps faster than class 32 or slower?

  • This phone is great, absolutely amazing for what it is for and i highly recommend it, dont let anyone tell you otherwise, the only downside is the slightly small screen when browsing and looking at the maps but otherwise 100% for the 2710 :)

  • just download ovi pc suit n upload ur maps...

  • Boss I didn't get Maps loaded in Mobile Phone Please send maps to my email adress so that I can load to my mobile phone Thanks and Regards Bashir Qureshi [email protected]

  • Why is it if i want 2 download with my 2710navigator the site ask me that i should identify my phone that the phone is nt recoganise why?

  • is the google maps can use in 2710

  • Continuing my previous answer, I just bought 2710, it is preloaded with free maps of certain countries. So I can search for location without using internet / data network,As long as it is not to remote or unpopular. It took about 1-5 minutes for looking the GPS signal to get current location. But with A-GPS online, using internet/ data network it took only 5-30 seconds.

  • Yes it has one MicroSD slot. In my country, the retail package has included a 2GB MicroSD preloaded with Free Maps (380MB) from certain countries depend on which continent it is sold.

  • no you can not use garmin xt, I think garmin xt is only for windows mobile, because I use it in my HTC Snap.

  • I just bought 2710, playing 40 songs approximately 2 hours , take 1 power strip out of 4 strips total. IMHO listening to the music through earphones for more than 2 hours is not good for ear drum.

  • hi guys , recently i have got interested in the nokia 2710 i like the specs. but i have one question remaining , which is the maximum music play back time ? does any body know how much is it ?

  • I would like to answer a little bit about the Ovi Map. First, I do not use 2710, but I use 5230 which also has Ovi Map / Nokia Map. No and Yes. No, you do not need internet connection if you have already uploaded the offline map by using Ovi Suite in your PC, connecting it to 2710, download the map of your chosen country, then save it to 2710 micro SD. Yes, you will need internet connection if the location you are looking for is not on the offline map.And if you want to speed up the searching. If you only use offline map and GPS receiver , it will take a couple of minute to locate your current location and your destination, depends on GPS signal strength, I suggest to use it outdoor. But with internet connection it will speed up to just few second, depends on the network traffic of course. I hope this can help you.

  • Nokia 2710 I called Nokia to get answers to a couple of questions, but they didn't make me feel confident that they understood what I was asking. Consequently, I don't trust their answers. Can anyone please help with the following? Firstly, do you need to be connected to a network for the GPS to work? To put it more simply, can I use the GPS without it costing me money? Secondly, does the voice guidance work when on foot or just in the car? An Amazon reviewer says it doesn't, but Nokia says it does; their PDF manual says it does. I'd rather trust answers from people with actual user experience.

  • cant use garmin mobile xt for gps if cant pls tell me how to install

  • does it have slot for memory card, how much is it? compare this shop, game, foschini group

  • The phone is good especially the NOKIA Care center that is in my area at Ikeja [Medical Road] Lagos Nigeria infact they are wonderfull. Immediatlly i have problem with it they came to my rescue

  • Yes, you can use GPS without internet :)

  • Please tell me if i can use GPS without connect to internet ???

  • Navigation Works verry nice is awesome. And the battery life is incredible, 5-6 days. :)

  • yes, it is voice prompted and quite accurate. It navigated me during my vacation with no problems. Certainly it lacks some 'real' gps/navigator features, but it's definitely enough to guide you on the road/city.

  • yes, you can choose from different languages.

  • thats great phone.simple n worthy

  • is the GPS voice promped?

  • Nah realy ths phne is awesme 4 its price nd acces0ries u get wit it..ya it aint tha best bt defnitly best in its class !

  • I'd say 4 its prize its an awesme phne ..n0 0tha phne in its class cn c0mpare wit it ! Nice

  • I think this phone delivers more than you would expect for the price range. Materials are of good quality, the GPS works great (just be outside and stand still a minute or two until it finds your location). Sound quality is also high and you get a large amount of accessories with it. Thank god for the car charger because the GPS drains a lot of juice, a full battery will barely last 6 hours.

  • howz da map.......can i change da view for 2d or 3d........please let me know dis thing fast

  • hey bro .howz da camera for dis mobile........howzz pixx n videos ...r dey 3gp format or mpeg4 help me .pleaze.......i know every1 will say good abut der mobile buy please sincerly..han thanx bro

  • think this fone is awesome

  • Better it is not 3G: videocalls are useless, and 3G2G toogling draws current (so battery go quickly down).

  • Err.. no 3G? Are you serious? That's not very smart at all..

  • Hey, anyone know ms office, adobe reader and winzip apps for my 2710?

  • Hey, anyone know ms office, adobe reader and winzip apps for my 2710?

  • wow, this phone is good, i am thinking about this phone and the sony ericsson naite, i think this one is better, the cons for me are the back cover design (same as nokia 2700) and the display resolution, i hope they had made it 16.7 million colors, but its affordable

  • battery life is excellent... 4-5 days of light use...

  • It also has turn-to-MUTE (silent). very good phone for it's money.

  • How is the battery backup? Thanks in advance.

  • I was going to get a C5...I don't like Symbian and after reading its SAR I preferred this 2710...excellent performance/price ratio...

  • for those who often have misconception about A-GPS : A-GPS is "ordinary" GPS with added capability to speed up satellite locking, with the cost of few kilobytes of data. so... A-GPS phones are indeed BETTER than "ordinary" GPS phones. and yes... you can turn off the added feature so it acts like "ordinary" GPS phones.

  • GPS performance is much much better than C5... and it's free from software glitch found in most symbian phones (C5 included)... N2710 rocks...

  • Can someone tell me if i can use GPS without connect to internet ???

  • what price of nokia 2710 in rupees

  • To all owners. How is the audio in conversation and the battery backup (standby)?

  • and what about the GPS,I mean not the A-GPS and what about when u gonna cross-country can it search for GPS signal or not

  • its bet 2 chos Nok C5. vch s far far far beter dan tiss...

  • Please owner of 2710navi, can you plz tell me the latest firmware number>> i know that ver 6.22 is the last, isn't it ?? Waiting your replies... thankx

  • I just got this phone 2 hours ago. So far all the features doing well especially the Navigation. Best for travellers..

  • 5500 to 5900 pesos in Greenhills, Philippines

  • price is high coz of the gps feature

  • Nokia home page say`s it talk time is 12 hour!

  • Is it possible to use the power save mode? To see the date, time and messages when you don't use the phone? Or is only the sleep mode avaible?

  • there is no exception & new technology & specification in this phone,so why this cost 8000 inr

  • not on symbian s40

  • Guys does this phone support Garmin software? Since it says on the specs page that it supports A-GPS function....

  • i have d phone now bt pls can some1 tel me how many menu icons they'v got on their's cuz i feel 1 of mine is missing..i hav d web.msg.apps.cont.maps.log.gall. and settings.. i need to knw wat 2 do, and how do i use d 'sensor'

  • " * Size: 2.2" * Resolution: 240 x 320 pixels * Up to 262,000 colours * Brightness control " In other words, "256K" colours. Haven't found the brightness control yet, mind you!

  • haha, look at the review of it, you could see on the key features that it has 16.7 million colours and 2'2 inche screen, but what is posted in the specs is 265k. i dunno what to belive

  • Hard to say. Haven't yet charged my battery from flat. But it's not fast. Could take a few hours, based on my experience. Try disconnecting the charger and see if the battery gauge reports full. Otherwise, remove charger, switch phone off, remove battery, replace, turn on (and hope your phone still works)! Of course, it should, but that was when mine died - but not for that reason. If all good, plug charger back in and see how it's going. One good feature is you get a decent message on-screen when the phone is charged. Even asks you to remove charger from wall to save power!

  • How long will the battery become fully charged? I have been charging it for more than 4 hours now but still there's no indication that the battery has been fully charged and the battery symbol is still scrolling.

  • How long will the battery become fully charged? I have been charging it for more than 4 hours now but still there's no indication that the battery has been fully charged and the battery symbol is still scrolling.

  • Slippery Beastie. Today, sadly, I discovered something else new. I have no idea what kind of plastic the back (battery cover etc) is made of, but it's very slippery. Maybe it's extra tough, but man it's slippery. I still have the display cover film on my phone so I can't compare it with the actual display lens, but comparing the Coefficient of Friction between the (bare) back of my old Nokia (which has a kind of rubber-impregnated feel), and the screen protector and the back of the new 2710, there is about a 10:3:1 difference. Give me the extremely high friction, easy-grip, rubbery feel of the old phone any day. I estimate the back of the new 2710 is 10 times more slippery than the back of the old phone, even after a year or two. Perhaps needless to say, (after only having it a couple of weeks) I dropped it on a footpath today. It was so easy, it just slipped right out of my hand. Just like that. A really disagreeable feature. Now my bezel is damaged. It may be a great way to wreck more phones and hence, sell more, but the customer is soon gonna get tired of that feature! Too bad, because I still really like the phone, in spite of its growing list of imperfections.

  • I dunno. When I go into Set Font Colurs, I can't tell the difference between some of the colours anyway, so I can't see how having 16 million colours is going to make any difference.

  • Yes, more colors is better, but this phone is not for pictures and camera. This is only for navigation. You cannot have all in this price range .

  • I disagree :) It has bigger fonts than series 60 phones and it is clearer to read, because there is less information in one screen.

  • the only missing in this phone is the 16.7 million colour screen, then it will be a great phone.

  • Map button. I first thought that it does not work. But you just have to press it a little longer , maybe two seconds. It is great as it immediately starts searching ones location. Good headphones are always nice, I use sennheiser hd 238 (open air, I do not like closed). Worth the extra money. Similar sound quality as Ipods, but not as good as a good (Nad) CD-player...

  • Hi. I did really like it, but of course, it's not THE phone. Just one that had what I wanted for a price I was willing to pay. But now, I'm forming a Love-Hate relationship with it. If you use the phone a lot, you'll start to realise it's very rough around the edges and the menus and options etc need a lot of work. For example, many errors (like trying to select a Radio Station that doesn't have a station tuned to it) will produce a big white screen, with a message in big black letters. Okay, you'll get the message, but it's much uglier than it needs to be. However, if you try to turn the Radio on without any headphones plugged in (needed as the FM aerial), the Radio will start up, and you'll get a message (as part of the normal Radio GUI), but in very tiny letters. Similarly, if you want to Save a radio station, that's in one menu, but if you want to Delete one, that's in a totally different menu. Also, if you Name a Radio station, you lose the RDS data display, and also, worse still, you can't Delete the name once it's in there. You can only change the name. The only way to get RDS back is to delete the station and save it again - which as I said, requires using two different menus. It's inconsistencies like this which start to annoy me. Oh, and BTW, if you do turn on the Radio (in V6.22, anyway) without the phones/aerial plugged in, the "Options" cue appears above the LH Selction key, but it doesn't work. You can't do anything with it, you can't turn the radio off again. If you use the RH Select key, it goes back to the Home screen leaving the Radio still on, and a message "Connect headset" in the General Indicators bar (if you have it displayed). It's kinda bad luck if it turns out you don't have a set of headphones with you. Sure, the Radio does time out and turn off after a while, but you wouldn't know that, and displaying a Select key option that doesn't actually work is not cool, in my view. Having said that, I do like the many Personalisation options the phone has. Feel the Love? The camera is not up to much at all, but I don't care about that. A camera that small can't be expected to take fantastic pictures, and I'll only use when I have to.

  • Yes, it does, though I haven't needed to use it yet. It comes with a cut-down version of Opera - see the review here:

  • hi..do you really like this phone?because i didn't think that this phone is THE PHONE..it's just one more off the nokia style...it's very common

  • how do i know if it has internet access?

  • I have been testing this phone since couple of days (in Switzerland). I am satisfied with the quality of manufacturing. It is really well finished. Navigation: works fine. Estimation of new way, in case of taking other way than recommended by device, is immediate. Unfortunately there is no possibility to find location after coordinates. The device does not give any information about coordinates of the current location. There is also no information about speed and altitude. Current position is estimated quickly if we are on the street, but it can take approximatly 1 minute if we are inside a building and far from any street. The device was unable to estimate my location during the journey on the train. Camera The quality of photos is very poor. The photos are not sharp and very noisy. There is also no flash light. Headphones: The quality of headphones and microphone of the included kit is satisfactory for phone calls (better than SonyEricsson k120i and SAMSUNG). For listening of music I would recommend using other head phones (I like the sound and the price of SONY MDR-EX32). And since the device has a standard 3.5 mm socket (Mini Jack) you can use your favourite headphones (also for makin the call - in this case you are using the built-in phone microphone).

  • I now have firmware V6.22. Noticed so far: MAP BUTTON: Still doesn't do anything. It beeps if you have keytones enabled, but that's all. Actually would be much better as another user-definable button. Still no sign of it in any menu I've seen. RADIO. Figured out the Tuning (or maybe it's changed with the new F/w version). To tune, L/R Navi short click. To change Station, L/R Navi hold until it changes. Whould make much more sense the other way around, because you generally DON'T want to Tune, you want to switch to a Preset, but never mind. Holding to Tune feels much more logical to me. Note: Radio/Options/Stations looks the same as Goto/Stations, but it isn't! Goto/Stations changes stations as you scroll, the other doesn't. When you click, the station is selected and the list closes. I really like the way the RDS data appears in the "General Indicators" bar if you enable it on the Home Screen, when the Radio is on in the background. That's cool. The phone has some very cool features, just needs a bit of work to tidy things up. For example, (this is cool) normally, you get the [Day and Date] in the "General Indicators" Home screen bar, with the local "Cell info" (Cell site name / area) displayed below it (if you have it turned on). But if the Radio is on in the background, the [Day & Date] gets replaced by the RDS data from whatever station is playing. However, you can't get the [Day & Date] back at will - for example by pressing the End button. You have to go into some other menu then out again to get the [Day & Date] to reappear. GENERAL: In general, a lot of menu items don't behave like (I think) they should, but it would take hours to document. There are many inconsistencies, for example, some prompt whether to connect to the Internet, some just go ahead without notice. Some menu items quit back to the Home screen when you just want to back up one level, but I don't remember which now. Some menus have a black on white pop-up sub-menus and some things are not where you'd want them to be. HELP SYSTEM. Well, are you gonna Help me or NOT? Some menu items have a timed help message which sometimes eventually appears, but many don't. It would be great if you could (a) tell if there's Help for a command, and (b) make it appear when you want it. The Maps button would be ideal for this, since it's small and obviously not essential.

  • Cont'd from K1W1 below: While it's recording, the recorder app is THE Focus. It seems there's no way you can move it to background like you can the Radio. Worse still, while it's recording, the LCD Backlight is ON, continually. That's gonna suck the Battery out. Effectively, the current Voice Recorder "feature" is so badly implemented as to be almost worthless, IMHO. You might use it to record brief memory joggers, but that would be about all. As I see it, the Voice Recorder should also be able to switch into the background, just like most other apps, and you should (even more importantly) be able to record your own calls with it. Here, nearly every goverment department, bank, and major business claims to record incoming calls, so why can't we level the playing field? Okay, I like the phone, but given a bit of refinement, I could really love it. ALARMS: Oh, sorry. No such luck. Just ONE alarm. My cheap, nasty, employer-supplied SAMSUNG flip does MUCH better. It provides 5 fully configurable Alarms which can each be individually configured: Named, Set, individually toned, volumed, and set for any day(s) of the week. Even more, each alarm can be configured to Snooze, for 1, 3, 5, 7 or 10 mins, and repeat (snoozing), 1, 2, 3, 5 or 10 times. This is a GREAT Feature from Samsung. Plus it can Auto-Power-on, also in the Alarms section. The ONE Nokia 2710 alarm has some limited Snooze options, and can be configured by day(s) of the week, but what's the use of that? If I want to wake up at 6:30 Mon-Fri, I have to either set Reminders for the weekends, or re-set my time and days of the week on that ONE alarm. Not good enough, Nokia! How little software is required to add another 4 or 5 identical alarms. Negligible. OH, another fault with the Alarm. My ancient old Nokia had this right, but not the 2710. If I activate Snooze when the Alarm goes off, when I then Unlock the phone, guess what? The phone forgets that there's an active Snooze still running. The old model would say "Snooze Active" with "Stop" as the only option. It would be better if there was the choice to keep it snoozing, but no choice is better than No Idea. The 2710 does nothing. So, I snooze the phone, then get up a minute later. (Yes, believe it or not, this actually happened). I then jump straight in the car, go into Maps and drive away. After a while, although there is no Alarm Sound, I notice the little Alarm Bell symbol at the top of the screen is busy ringing its head off. The Alarm was silently going off. Now what use is that??? When unlocked, the phone should have asked what to do, and if I continue to Snooze, well, shouldn't it ACTUALLY RING at the right time? NAVIGATION. Worked well, mostly. Could use more options. Last weekend I obeyed its instructions for a short across town trip. Left the same time as friends making the same trip. They were in a fully laden van and went the "obvious way", BUT I took 50% longer for the same trip at the same time, because I got taken "the complex way" through lots of busy sidestreets and traffic lights and intersections, while they took the longer way, and cruised on the motorway. Yes, and I did have the phone set to Fastest by car, use motorways. But generally, it's pretty good and I won't complain about that. I like the way it updates itself to keep on track, even when you disobey its instructions. Let's just say I really like the phone, and hope that it comes back with new firmware (and all my data), and works better than ever. If Nokia reads this and implements these things in a Firmware update for everyone to download, I will be thrilled to bits! P.S. Yes, I especially love the way you can configure the Home Screen, I love the big digital clock (I've got mine set to Yellow font on the default dark B/G and it looks pretty stunning), and it would be great if they would add to the Home Screen by adding one more User Select bar (Not sure what they're called, can't find in Manual & phone is in the shop). Anyway, the additional bar would list all the running apps, [e.g. Radio / Media player / Voice Recorder / Alarms / Stopwatch/timer, etc] (or come up with some better way) to quickly get back to an active app such as the Radio, Volume control, etc.) Oh, and I don't know why all phones don't have this, but a simple LED torch would be another GREAT, and very inexpensive, feature. If you really wanted to make it useful, include an option to Flash the LED. If your car breaks down out in the country and you have to walk on the road at night, a flashing light is so much easier to see... (PPPS: the battery charger lead is way too short.)

  • The GPS is ok, so far as I have seen. It works quite well, and updates itself quickly when you take wrong turns. Doesn't always offer the fastest route though and you have to be smarter sometimes. But the phone software still has a lot of bugs and things that aren't right. I had to get my one reloaded at the shop (it crashed and died). I now have V6.22 (latest on Nokia site is 6.21), but it's still a mess. A lot of the menus are inconsistent and things aren't always where they should be, and don't work like they should. Hopefully, it will get better! The GPS does work quite well, and you can run it for free, without a data connection.

  • hi, i would like to know whether dis fone's GPS is ok or not? anything con than pro ?? i dont want other features. only need the GPS. call & sms. thats all

  • I have a 2nd part to post, but can't do it. Anyone know how? (Does anyone want to see it?)

  • Ok, bought the Nokia 2710 Nav Ed 9 days ago. Lots of promise, but definitely not there yet. Hopefully Nokia will fix a lot of these deficiencies like Microsoft does - after the product is released. I see today there's a new software release V6.21. That must have just come out, the first available firmware download, because it wasn't there a couple of days ago. Mine had V6.13. Too bad I never got the chance to try it (yet)... There's a lot a like about this phone and I couldn't find a better phone for the money, that offers what I want. But, it has definite weaknesses, bugs and things that could do with tidying up or just plain improving! Okay, so: First up - after just 9 days of normal use, I've had to take the phone back to the shop to be fixed. It's "died". Now, when I turn it on, it locks up completely at the Enter Date & Time screen. You can't do anything at all, except remove the (fully charged) battery to power it off. Then, when you replace and turn back on, same thing. The software has obviously screwed up. [I turned it Off and removed the battery, hoping that the Map button might start working after a reboot, but I didn't expect this. A dead phone.] Let me tell you a bit about my experience up to then. First fault I found: the Maps button - the small button between the Right Menu button and the End/Power button - never worked. All it would do is "wake up" the phone - if locked, it would do the same as all the other locked keys, bring up the Unlock prompt. But nothing else, even when unlocked. It might be nice if it worked, and even nicer if you could customise it, but I couldn't find anything like that in the Menus. Next, the RADIO. Great stereo sound, but definitely not there yet. When you Auto-tune the stations, it finds up to 20 local stations and puts them in a list. From there, it seems that you're supposed to save the ones you want - up to 20 max. (But where are the instructions??? More on that later), and even though you may save a station, the Stations menu will still offer to "Save Station" again. Save again, but still the same... But only for some stations. Others don't want to be Saved again. I couldn't figure that out. But that's not the real problem. The Radio operation pretty much Sux. To increase the volume, you can simply Up or Down the 4-way Navi key, no problem there. (Well, almost. The Lowest point on the volume scale is Mute, which is great, but the next one up is too loud for quiet listening. We're not all deaf teenagers.) Back to the tuning problem: once the Stations are set up (and, presumably SAVED), you are supposed to be able to switch stations (User Guide, p47) by simply pressing Left or Right on the Navi key. That would make good sense, and the Radio screen (Nav labels) also seem to imply that. Yeah, well, not yet! What happens is the Radio is stuck in Tune mode, and even though the Frequency has been set and saved, it simply (de)tunes the frequency off the station. Bummer. To get a new station, you have to go into the Menu, down to the Stations list, then select a new station. Painful. Or, you can use a number key, if you can remember the number of the station you want. A popup list would be nice. Also, it's too easy to Auto-tune all the stations unintentionally, and lose all your previous work. [Are you sure?]?? Similarly, getting the Stations Info (a web lookup) needs a prompt to say [Connect to Web?] One thing I REALLY like about the radio - the RDS (Radio Data Systems) feature, but again, sadly, it's just NOT THERE YET! In the Stations List, if you decide to save a Station with a NAME, guess what? You lose RDS when you listen to that Station. DAFT! The Name is a prompt so you can quickly choose the Station. Once I've done that, do I need to see the Name and not the RDS data? NO I DON'T! The Radio (and Presumably the Media player which I haven't even tried yet), have definite operational issues. It's nice that you can leave the Radio playing in the background and return to the Main (Home screen) etc and use the "device" (as the Manual calls it) for other things, ***BUT*** what do you do if you need to Mute it suddenly because someone wants to talk to you? Are you supposed to just rip out your earphones? How Cool! But that seems to be about your best option, especially if you've got the phone locked (or Auto locked), because, as far as I can see, there's no quick way to do it. You either have to Unlock, navigate back to the Radio app and Vol down, or you have to navigate to the Volume control and scroll it down to "0" (which isn't Mute, and there isn't a Mute option that I've found so far, meaning that's it's still too loud to hold an ordinary conversation.) I presume the same issues apply to the Media/MP3 player, but can't say as my phone is AWOL. If Nokia wants to be really clever, they could create a "Conversation" mode, where an Audiophile could hold a conversation with someone nearby, by (in one operation) muting / stopping whatever is playing, and listening to the person through the phone's own microphone. This would enable the hard of hearing to amp the volume, and would allow you to keep your earpieces in (or headphones on), and still hear clearly. Maybe Nokia could pay me for this idea!! Which brings me to the next thing I bought the phone for: "Voice Recording". But first, this brings me to the Manual. There's only one word to appropriately describe Nokia's 2710 phone documentation: ABYSMAL!! Completely Abysmal. I don't know, but guess this applies to all the phones they make, these days. I suppose it's part of the Dumbed Down, Consumeristic, Virtual Book Burning culture we now live in. (Oh, and the User Manual Index Sux too. It's just 2.3 pages, while the ToC is 2.75 pages.) Anyway, nowhere in any of the Pre-Sales literature, nor in the Downloadable User's Manual nor on Nokia's website, could I find anything worthwhile about this feature. And most of the shops around here won't let you actually try things out on a real phone because then it's ex-Demo. Anyway, I couldn't find anything to tell me what format it records in, how much memory it uses per minute or hour, and how long it will record for. All I can tell you is that the recorder controls are completely basic: Record and Stop. It will record for up to an hour. Okay, but why not 10? And get this: While it's recording, the recorder app is THE >>>Focus

  • great.phone its friendly user

  • I'd like to know from the reviewer that, whether the standard s40 6th edition web browser is available on this phone or not. I do not find opera mini 4.2 secure enough to be used for day to day work since it transmits all data through a transcoder server. S40 6th edition browser is webkit based and transmits data directly to the target. Please let me know whether the s40 6th edition browser is available on this phone apart from opera mini on this phone.

  • you can install garmin mobile xt software

  • Anyone knows if I can install Garmin software + maps on this phone?

  • hi all,,, this phone is avaliable in saudia arabia now & cost 500 SR....

  • I am from Abu dhabi and the price here for nokia 2710 is Dhs. 590/- Well i think its costly as it has no much features expect the GPS. we can buy a dedicated MIOGPS for around 300Dhs. Nokia shud definetly reduce the price for the sale of this product.

  • Great phone, ease of use, does not hang like the s60 platforms, ringing tone and navigation loud and audible, keypad quite comfortable despite my huge hands.

  • Gsmarena is going to review this phone..? I think so. Maybe in some days we will see the review of this phone..

  • Compared to e.g Nokia 6730, this is better made. Feels actually much more expensive ! They try to make those more expensive models too light and thin, no sturdy feel. Software is basic, no lonely planet, car speed alerts etc. but this does the basic job very good. Maps and GPS can be used with no operator connection, so use does not cost a thing.

  • please can you review this phone GSM ARENA!

  • Great phone. Very easy to use navigation, fast GPS-fix (no sirf ?) but no voice guidance in walk mode, only in drive mode.

  • no as it is a s40 based device.

  • GSM Arena, Could you please do a review of this phone? There are reports that the navigation license is not working for some.

  • Does this phone use your airtime if you use the GPS & maps?

  • can put Garmin or not?

  • this fone is already realeased,, update the status please

  • ilove this phone and it's very beautiful

  • if you want wifi then buy a laptop!!

  • I have seen this phone, it is very good and quite affordable too. Except for the NO WLAN, I think it's worth it. I will definitely go for it. Try it my friend

  • new price 139 $ in kuwait

  • i am sure Nokia 2710 have a digital compass

  • this phone got wifi....=)

  • Cedric, which country? Any real photos? I haven't seen a single photo except the stock ones. I also heard that this model has been cancelled. That may be one reason it is very hard to find anywhere. C5 which was announced only a month ago is available for sale in most places while the 2710 announced in Dec 2009 is available in very few places.

  • i've already seen this phone in our country, quite frankly im not impressed..this phone has the same price as the 7230, but the 7230 is far more impressive than this phone..and the 2710 does not come close to my nokia c5..better buy the c5 or 7230 if you want value for your money..

  • What will be the price / if it costs around just 100 US $ (4800 Rs.) only then I will buy it. as it's a just GSM Quad-Band phone.. with nothing much.. just A-GPS support.

  • We don't know the actual cost of Nokia 2710 Navigation Edition but if it costs around 150 $ , then one should buy Nokia 5230 or Nokia 5235. C5 will also support GPS but it's price is not clear as of now.

  • I think this is a killer phone because the price and the GPS capabilities, especially for free turn by turn navigation apps like Waze or Ovi Maps.

  • its now in kuwait 150 us dollars

  • thank you all

  • It is available right now in Malaysia.

  • ya its avalble in dcc dubai for 165$

  • any new news abt this mobile ? when can we buy it ?

  • stink fly on internet...

  • Nokia is offering free life time Navigation worldwide both in Drive and walk.

  • Good phone

  • Does this only provide vehicle navigation or can you use it while walking?

  • Unfortunately with gps phones you cannot track the person you are texting or calling.GPS is used to guide you to a destination you want to go. However, you can track them if they register to be tracked via a 3rd party service provider. They also need to authorise you to be able to track them.

  • That's exactly what I want. A cheap small phone with Gps support, no Wi-fi,no 3G network, no touchscreen .I cant wait for it to be released. I hope we can access voice memo easy and fast otherwise it would be useless. in my current phone I just have to press one big button to enable voice memo. and I use it a lot.

  • Nokia Maps is comparable

  • The price is good enough for a non-Symbian GPS phone.

  • an excellent navigation cheap phone, and life time navigation license also, this is gr8... i am gonna get it and ofcourse i am keeping my lovely N97

  • It haven't Symbian OS :(

  • WOW! GSM phone with enabled GPS with navigation, Nokia really has something for everybody. I'd say it will be a hit!

  • I wish 16 million colors in its screen...

  • in that some diffrent look up wont to see the market now a days ppl are craz on tuch screen so in that be low 10000/- not have any tuch screen so ppl are looking tuch in that range only thats it

  • Looks great..like its handiness but only problem is an archaic Symbian S40. Why did Nokia do this?

  • i like the car mount.. that's it! :)

  • It's cheap...

  • ya i fuly agred wt u paid..................!

  • im working in a phone shop pips cum nun stop luking for this phone it must be a gud 1,seriously wht special about it ???

  • i love the iphone this one is crap

  • Nice phone, with 3.5 mm jack and 2.2 inches screen and good to have GPS in it. Probably it'll attract nokia lovers as many facilities in small phones

  • Please correct the TALK time: 12,5 hours Please include DIGITAL COMPASS for GPS Source:

  • Please include DIGITAL COMPASS in the specification.

  • liked the design liked the feature,of course The GPS awesome

  • There is also a digital compass

  • 2.2 inches screen and no 3g? hahahahahhah

  • I am a big Nokia fan and I have used a lot of their devices including the old internet table. I find it really interesting that they are going to give a GPS feature in a low end phone. As competetion grows the quality and everything will improve as well. Why pay 30k or 40k for something when you can get it well under 15k. I am really happy with their decision and support them with each and everyone of their product.

  • Totally agree with u tm91, 1st thing for a navigation phone is big screen, second u could put a Flexible OS,with good processor, and with good battery, and lets not forget 3G...we are almost in 2010, and companies still deliver phones with no 3G, or with no bluetooth... i mean is it still that expensive as a technology to implement? i really cant understand!!

  • useless no futures and much more . . .!!

  • S40 sounds getting a little to far (or too short). They could have got atleast S60 so that there could atleast be some multi tasking.

  • For next summer planned to buy Nokia 6710 for my trip. But I don't like sliders that much. So, seems 2710 will be my choice. Yes!

  • Ugly and stupid wow I like it!lol

  • hmmm..upgrade on the 2700?

  • You must be the guy incomplete schooling.Navigation not means to those people with money or traveler. Now a day.School boy or Teens need this that become a norm gadget in day to day needs.Their pocket is not as thick as your negative thought.Like HP in years back.Only few succesfull businessman own it but time have change. What a shame...Don't waste our time here to see & comment your junk knowledge.

  • Great idea and not too late.Low end budget market is hunger of this inexpensive model that been denied by most producer.Fenomena will awake Teens & new life trend for the beginners that will leave with it.Life-time license is another killer.Keep it up Nokia.

  • It would be nice if: 1) GPS reception is very good, like a good dedicated GPS device (works well unassisted) 2) software is good 3) actually is pretty usable compared to a dedicated GPS device. Dedicated GPS devices are useless (as mobile devices) after 2 years because their batteries can't hold a long charge anymore. At least with phones and old battery can be replaced easily. Interesting times.

  • WTF ??? Navigation phone on S40 ...? What Navigation ... Google Maps :))) ? Also, the 2.2 screen doesn't help too much ... NOKIA, you are really going down ... I understand they want to make small buget phones for the mass... But navigation phone ... I mean, people who travel surely have money to buy a real gps or a better phone with a real OS...

  • inr Rs 5000 ok

  • now thats a good piece of device. very sleek design. i like it alot

  • it is S40 platform.. hmm, lifetime navigation is a good addition. wait n see the starting price of this phone. my opinion is about US$150

  • Poor Nokia,;they reached low branches by lounching such miserable product.

  • the navigation is more for pedestrian use.

  • what UI?

  • nice phone

  • I think that is not very comfortable a screen of 2.2 inch to a navigation oriented device. Unfortunately Nokia has lost the glamour of the past years. Other companies Like samsung or lg introducing and producing more interesting devices in any categorie of portable devices. For me nokia has not introduced something intresting since nokia N95
