Nokia 5.1 - User Reviews

  • I have used the phone for a week and is generally pleased with it. However the phone does have a few shortcomings like battery life, mono speakers, speaker volume and screen brightness. I am a light user i purchased this phone because i need a smartphone for work and this fits the budget without losing performance. The software is great no issues there and fast enough without noticeable lag when using apps or surfing net. Screen is excellent very clear and detailed with good colours. However the screen brightness is not very bright under direct sunlight. I find it weak even with the brightest settings. Battery life is acceptable lasting a day with moderate use but not spectacular. The mono speaker is not that great although you can hear it is quite poor quality. Combined with a low volume it is difficult to hear sometimes. If you dont use to speaker phone the call quality is fine. Its only when you use speaker phone thats an issue. The design is excellent just like the original nokia 5 with metal finish and easy to hold. I have used nokia 6 previously and i find that phone too big and bulky to hold and carry although it is a better phone. Overall i give nokia 5.1 a 7.5 out of 10.

  • Why is my Nokia 5.1 creating folders and generating photos thus filling up space then keeps on telling me its almost full?

  • Guess I'll live a long time. Just got Pie on a mandatory upgrade, the other day. So far, so good. Runs smooth. No glitches that I know of, yet. With no change in apps, I even have more open storage space than with Oreo. Battery run time better, too. OK, I'm convinced.

  • Good phone, just bought mine two days ago. Is a slick phone but the battery capacity is small. I think Nokia had to increase the battery capacity to 4000 or 3400

  • Really good display for MANY prices. When I saw 430 ppi for $179, I thought it was a typo. Mine came with Oreo, and I'm sticking with that. Too many horror stories about OS upgrades. Pie has stuff I won't likely need, even if I live to be 120.

  • Plus: Android (One) Pie , really good display for the price, full metal body, dual SIM, audio jack. Minus: Very small internal memory (16 or 32 GB), needs uSD card (supports up to 256 GB card in addition to 2 nano SIM cards), battery and processor should have greater capacity, no AC WLAN. Overall a low end smartphone but with good value.

  • Yea i agree. The problem is a very big. And if you have social apps all are useless because of that shutdown apps in the background. Instagram, viber, facebook, discord no notifications. Phone looks like death. And that irritates me very hard. And now i changed to another one but no nokia. Never again.

  • Just got the 5.1, brand new, last week. Very pleased. Excellent display!! Probably the best display you can get, on a sub-$200 phone. Screen is very responsive -- very little stuttering. Boots up pretty quickly. Nice appearance. Not too heavy or bulky, yet not too light. As with a lot of the new phones, the speaker is pretty bad -- must use earbuds. So far, not too pleased with the battery life, but overall a great experience.

  • Your update mobile model 5.1 or 5.1plus

  • I bought now Nokia 5.1. I am go to system update last security patch augest 2018 . Currently no update showing. How to update latest security patches . Give solution

  • Awfull don't receive all notifications that I should receive. Has been like this since android 9 update. It also starts to fall apart after a few drops. Don't buy this!

  • I know the phone was released in August 2018 but is there a way I can find out the exact production date of my Nokia 5.1?

  • Hi, should i buy this phone or A30?

  • Im just regreting updating my phone to 9 pie, some apps do not work properly soon after the update, what should i do? 😢

  • Does this mobile support dual volte?

  • Do a factory reset, will also be good for the entire system overall performance.

  • You don't. You have to move it to the SD card

  • I lost my finger print option after upgrading to V9. How to recover it. I bought my 5.1 today

  • Great experience after Updating my Nokia 5.1 to Android 9 pie.

  • The Helio P18 is more like a modern Snapdragon 615. Both have 2 quad-core clusters (Cortex-A53 based) and the Mali-T860MP2 is similar to the Adreno 405 that the Snapdragon 615 has.

  • silly complaint.

  • I've read some of the silliest complaints ever on this thread.

  • Hi, i bought this phone 3 weeks ago. Am getting frustrated by this phone creating memes unnecessarily. Also how do i save pictures on the memory card?

  • Google chrome is just so annoying, after downloading a document and trying to open it, google chrome closes

  • I upgraded to this phone and received it on 02 April 2019 and sent it back the next day because I could not find screen protectors or covers for this phone, also the bundled earphones are so big that they keep falling out of my ears. I was told by my service provider that the phone was in such low demand that they did not find it necessary to keep protectors for the phone.

  • I just bought this phone recently and immediately I updated to android 9, but the screen is flicking and the phone is getting hot, what should be the solution?

  • This could be a great phone, but the too aggressive power-saving bloatware is forcing me to change to another manufacturer. In short, applications get shutdown in the bacground and no matter how much I try to white list them. For example, I can't download music offline with Soundcloud and AppLock software gets killed. Also activitytracking software is getting killed in the background. Nokia support chat was friendly, but were not able to solve the issue.

  • My Nokia 5.1 updated to android 9.0 pie working perfectly no issues

  • The phone plays a crass and childish melody on startup and shutdown, and there is no way to disable this. Any good features are negated by this. Zero stars.

  • A nice mobile.

  • Oh wow my Nokia 5.1 received android 9.0 pie update awesome Nokia you rocks again

  • It's equivalent to an SD625

  • Worst Android phone With too much of exegerated features....internal memory is 16gb but 8gb already accupied..after installation of few apps it keeps on reminding you of memory almost full...poor Network reception and slow Internet...at times you are off Network but the phone is powered on...the startup tone is a hustle/impossible to disable... generally it's a poor fon

  • I said that because I am nokia fan ...actually I didn't have the phone

  • I bought the phone, after 8 days the on/ off button sunk and had to repair it. this was a bit disappointing and puts a question on the quality I'm not a heave user and compared to my previous phone (mi 4c) that had similar specs this feels really slow, e.g. opening chrome takes several second, you can see blip when you change tabs or switch between apps. the camera is really slow - takes several several seconds to take a photo. again compared to mi 4c is I cannot comment on the quality of the pics yet On the positive side, the look and feel is nice and display is good for me (better than my previous phone) though it the text seems very small sometimes Overall the experience to me is much much worse than my previous mi4c and it was bad choice in the price ranger

  • I have 3/32 gb version and after 2 months of usage it is starting to show some problems. Nothing major but still anoying( when u r in viber and receive a gsm call it plays two diffrent sounds simultaneously ...apsurd. Couple of times it made a call by it self. and yesterday it went dead on 15% battery. to much trouble for 2 months old phone........but looks r great!

  • how is gaming on this phone?

  • What SnapDragon chip is this P18 mdk comparable to?

  • best phone ever made nokia 4 life

  • I think it is the most beautiful midrange smartphone with a decent specifications ..really admire built quality & its finishing like a 180$ flagship

  • Does it have portrait camera?

  • Again, GSM Arena pretending they don't know what Gorilla Glass sits on the screen. :) "Unspecified version" they say. I've seen that kind of half information on many other phones (Xiaomi A2, for example, where GSM Arena didn't specify any protection) Why don't you go on the manufacturer's site and check there ? Is Gorilla glass 3.

  • I am with Nokia 5.1 and it's enough fast. If your Nokia 5.1 is slow may be you are in biiiiiiggg mistake....

  • Is it good enough to play pubg without lagging??

  • Can someone please tell me their experience and opinion on this phone?

  • Very slow phone don’t buy this I waste my money

  • Yes, it does have an ambient light sensor but unfortunately no notification lights.

  • Does it have an ambient light sensor and a notification led?

  • I purchased Nokia 5.1 3gb ram and 32 GB variant here in India great phone

  • Android 8.1 or android 9.0 still not available here I checked the update here in India

  • It's because it's not released yet in Saudi Arabia

  • I don't know why the he** it's not available here in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia? Anybody knows the reason why? If there's any available, can somebody please share the info where to find this unit. Thanks a lot.

  • It's not perfect. I'm in the UK and the only version is the 2GB RAM/ 16GB storage version. If your a heavy gamer (I'm not) look elsewhere, but assuming your needs are fairly basic - calls, texts, and some media consumption/internet, its absolutely fine. Performance is acceptably fast and the display/audio reasonable enough. Storage wise you only get 9GB useable (6GB is reserved for the system) but you can easily add a micro SD card and format it as internal storage to get around that one. The cameras are also fine.

  • I just can't find it for sale anywhere on the internet.I live in the states.

  • If redmi 6a is much cheaper go for it.

  • Nokia 5.1 is better

  • You can buy Nokia phones in Namibia. South Africa too.

  • Hey there. I don't know, perhaps the Redmi 6 could be great but I have a Redmi 5 now and would never recommend it to anyone. I'm so fed up with it I'm in the market for a new phone. The installed apps (aka company's apps) work perfectly, but have had trouble with installed apps from Google Play. It doesn't seem to favour them with notifications, functionality etc. Again, the new one could be great but this will be the first and only Xiaomi phone I ever have.

  • Would you recommend this or the redmi 6a? I can't decide

  • Nokia 5.1 or Nokia 3.1 which phone should i get I dont really play games mostly just watching youtube videos Thanks

  • Iam also waiting for Android 8.1 India

  • When Oreo 8.1 or is planned for India.. any idea?

  • U must have buyed wrong varriant

  • IP68 for a Budget phone lol. Go for the flagships

  • My runs on Android 8.1. You can upgrade it

  • My Nokia 5.1 3gb ram 32 internal storage still runs on Android 8.0 anyone knows when Nokia is given update to 8.1 or android 9.0 pie update iam waiting overall good phone

  • I bought this and was dissapointed by the fact that it had 16GB instead of 32GB storage.

  • Well it sells in Latvia at least

  • I hope to release the phone in the markets of Egypt

  • Where on earth can u buy this????

  • You will suprise how the p.u.b.g work on this phone. 😉

  • You are layer. The phone is actualy very fast and camera is a big suprise- very nice. Check the benchmark review. The main problem is Ram 2 gb and 16 storage. Not enought.

  • Purchased recently phone looks and feels really good .Screen not very bright or sharp and on the small side ,camera is grainy .The Media Tek processor is a big big let down way to weak it's slow and old it has let this phone down big time.Im already selling this phone on as it does not meet my requirements.

  • Purchased the Nokia 5.1 on 6th of November looks awesome I used iPhone 5s performance of this phone is very good very smooth double tap wake up screen is awesome call quality is same like my iPhone no lags very important battery is very best Ian in love with the phone and Note pls don't believe anyone who is giving wrong comments about this phone it also had voice cancel options when you talking with a person back ground voice automatically it will disables other person will listen only your words all in all a great phone and great come back Nokia

  • No IP68, no deal.

  • Dean on arrival and cannibalized by Nokia 5.1 plus

  • That is Nokia 5.1 plus. This is Nokia 5.1

  • Rear camera must be dual setup (12 + 5 mp) according to nokia website

  • According to Nokia website it is Gorilla Glass 3.

  • When is this going to be available in the Philippines?

  • Does this mobile support dual volte?

  • Actually the first ipod touch ever made had gorilla glass 1 ( idk about iphone ). I droped that poor screen in every sharp and rough place on earth and now, to this day, it is stll like new ( with only a few minor scratch ). Now even if the iPod was only 100 grams or so compared to a modern phone, the glass still felt very rough, like an anti-bullet glass from a ZIS 101, and I'm sure that it is actually much stronger than the gorilla glass 4.

  • This looks so perfect in person its made of aluminium which feels really solid but also lightweight the finish is also soft so a cover might be needed to prevent slipping. The camera is perfect. It isnt saturated like the samsung ones and u get accurate natural colors. The camera also comes with inbuilt face masks/animation filters like those in snapchat which is a plus. it also has post video stabilisation built in which works perfect. Speed and perfomance is great unless u are using a faulty and fake device. It also supports split screen where u can run two apps at the same time and i didnt notice any lag. Battery wise i must say if u are a frequent or heavy user like myself u will definetely need to charge your battery before the end of the day. If u are in Kenya it does not support faiba 28(700) as i guess most that came in the country were of a different region.

  • Better display go for Samsung but camera and build quality go for Nokia

  • I bought nokia 5.1 and it looks great, a very nice phone, although its 2 gig ram but the speed of the phone is super amazing. It has nice looks and easy to handle.

  • I had a Nokia 5 and sold it the same day. The display was unusable for video/youtube, so slow it was all a smear in moving scenes. Another problem was the software, i had to agree to let google install apps automatically, any app they wanted to push to me, i had no control over the process but was supposedly allowed to delete apps after testing them. Thats what i call hijacking of a persons device, so intrusive and arrogant. Also you cant easily transfer files on Nokia phones. Steer clear of them.

  • Yes the phone looks amnazig bat the procesor it's a old process 28nm!!I should change the version and put another new generation processor a Snapdragon 630 Or even a Snapdragon 450

  • MediaTek Helio P18 (MT6755S) yes it's old process 28nm. Shit no good! Very bad Nokia!

  • This phone looks so amazing!

  • Eeeh let's see a little upgrade here and a little downgrade there makes the 5.1 scarcely different from the 5. The MTK processor on the 5.1 is a minus especially for mildly heavy gaming. But damn those gorrilla glass, they shatter easily, at least the one on mine does maybe it's a gorrilla glass 1 !!!?

  • the prcoccess is MT 6755 s & its 28 nanometer

  • Can you give a detail on its performance like in gaming camera browsing call quality and battery life. I am planning to buy a new nokia device and this one I really consider but waiting for a detailed review.

  • I just happened to use a 16/2gb ram one and believe me the performance is not good, except the design there is nothing great in this handset.

  • Anybody plz tell about this device performance

  • i like this phone it is so classic nice phone but one disappointed it is have low Ram plz update helio p60 ram to use this phone

  • Does Nokia 5.1 Has Portrait Mode?

  • Nokia 5.1 vs Samsung J8 Which one is better? I am looking for Good display and camera.

  • best answer

  • Even after seeing the fallen market of Sony and HTC in India, itsreems, HMD Global have not learnt lessons. They are trying to sell their mobiles with lower pawered Media Tek processors. Sony also tried to do the same and lost their ground. Asus are selling mobiles with much improved SD 636 processors at lower price and chinese companies like Vivo, oppo, Xiaomi are using Qualcomm processors and are improving their sales worldwide. Be careful Nokia. We are expecting better profucts from you. Of course Indians are Nokia fans but not easily fooled.

  • disappointed because this device did not use snapdragon 450

  • I didn't purchase the Nokia 5 last year because the copper version is not available in my country. This phone is so gorgeous. I hope the copper version will be available in the Philippines soon. So far, Nokia is doing well.

  • 2gig models available in Finland,

  • so Nokia 3.1 with smaller display lower resolution very slightly bigger battery posted 56 hours endurance . what will be endurance rating for 5.1 ?? I think it will be below 50 hours . Only thing that is good in this phone is Nokia logo.

  • The things that I hate are why must pre-order and why only 2 gigs Ram that come out first.. I want that 3 gigs... Beside that, I think this nokia 5.1 is worth the money..

  • It hasn’t been released in any single country yet... in Germany now is still on pre-order... probably August or even September... People that already give review on Nokia 5.1 they all are liar... you can’t give judgement on something that you don’t even know or own... In my opinion.. for smartphone that only costs around €200 with those kinds of specs, i think it’s worthy of the money...

  • >using distro OS that eat more than 1GB of ram. good luck with trying to keep your phone cooler than your own body heat.

  • Because the phone is allmost for free?

  • first they will introduce all low end processor phones let all fans purchase that junk so they can close their dukan as soon as possible.

  • It has been released already, check it out.

  • Mediatek? Why not Snapdragon? Why Nokia why...

  • How you use this one its not even release yet?

  • One of the junk phone i have ever used. Very Very bad quality camera and very bad performance. Waste of money. Even low cost chines phones are better than this phone.

  • There are better mediatek soc's in other phones, some are cheaper than Nokia 5.1 (Realme 1), and i'm wondering why soup up older 28nm designs instead of using existing better products.

  • A pnnis less great looking phone.

  • Yes. I can't help but feel like this was a wasted opportunity for Nokia. Helio P22 would've been a better choice.

  • At least using soc sd450.Or soc P22,23,25.

  • They could have put SD450 in this phone, or at least a Helio p22.

  • Glad you mentioned and pointed out the 700 support. I think my preferred ntework here in the Philippines, Globe, is using that. Sad.

  • And you won't learn English.....

  • helio p18 is an upto date design

  • Best phone what i can find for this price.

  • Again that backdated slow down Media Tech processor... Nokia wont take education from failure.

  • Interesting it only comes with Android 8.0, considering the Nokia 6.1 was released months ago with 8.1. They promise upgrades to 2 new Android versions, I guess an update to 8.1 will use one of these. Helps distinguish the models better if true as the 6.1 will get Android 9.1 (or whatever), and the 5.1 will be limited to Android 9.0. I need a phone that supports LTE band 28 (700 MHz) , options are a little restricted but the local variants (AU) of these phones support it.

  • Hats off to Nokia 5.1-3.1 and 2.1 for the excellent build quality in this price range...

  • Funny to say that, especially you just watesd your time, being? D''b.

  • redmi note 5 pro is best nokia 5.1 is waste

  • nokia always using outdated soc to their smartphones. nokias legacy is gone...

  • The design is superb but the battery should be stronger. Nokia 5.1 is my favourite one comparing it with 3.1 and 2.1.

  • Dont like this design..

  • atleast put helio p22 its 2018 man. damn nokia 1 steps forward 2 steps backward.

  • What sort of price would you like it to be? Just curious.

  • You are right, the Nokia 3 has been the best selling device for them. I'm sure the new 3.1 will also sell very well.

  • It will be released sometime in July.

  • You and everyone else lol But let's hope it has a good price!

  • It should play this game without a problem.

  • Is nokia 5.1 good for playing pubg?

  • I'm waiting for Nokia x6

  • Helio p22 is better choice than p18

  • Affordable and impressive... I just hope Nokia/Hmd will launch it very soon. Tempered blue and copper are excellent colours. Well done Nokia!

  • YaY this phone is cute. Just a little bit bigger battery and all set.

  • 28nm SOC in 2018 ??? also it seems they've discarded NFC from the India model as per their India site ???

  • nokia x6 is in silent mode

  • great ! but nokia 2.1 has big screen and low ram capacity

  • yup, 28nm SOC in 2018. Better use SD450

  • It is an eye catching device i meant...

  • The idea to refresh the phones is nice. Attractive line up at affordable prices even though phones are upgraded. If i am not mistaken Nokia 3 was a big success in the area of smartphones for Nokia/Hmd...Let's see what Nokia 3.1 can manage. Nokia 2.1 is also a good idea but it is a quiet heavy (174g) device. My favourite one is Nokia 5.1 and definetely it is an catching phone! Smart priced also...

  • IKR? SD 450 is the perfect low-midtier SoC. With the stock Android from Nokia, this would be even better. P18 is very new, like it was just announced this month. So we can't really know for now it's real life performance. I saw in a site that it's 28nm though, vs 14nm of SD 450.. Add that to less than mediocre battery capacity.. Another thing I would rant about is the micro-USB and not Type C. Really, phones are moving to that connection type now. The only thing I can think of why Nokia isn't doing that is they're emptying their stock of micro-USB connection, or they're copying Xiaomi LOL. If they put this phone's price at less than $200 this might be a good deal.

  • To HMD Global..!! . "Why are not valued for low-income people..!?"

  • It good for daily use. Not for gaming. This gpu just can handle light games Max gflops is 54giga flops.. Means the resolution must be 720p for good gaming experience....

  • i loved pat& mat cartoon.

  • look at these: 2.1, 3.1 and this one 5.1! MediaTek & sd425! 1~3GB of RAM..!! I guess Pat & Mat or Lubomír Benes's phones are better choice to hmd's phones..

  • not even a 3000 mah battery

  • now finally I can say,Nokia is back. This is perfect device for me.

  • Media Tek Helio? Oh no I dislike it

  • But If it has Big-Little technology, the performance will be decent.

  • Best looking phone ever.

  • does anyone know further details about helio p18 performance?

  • I had forgot about that one

  • Finger print sensor seems to be on the back. please correct it .. it's not front mounted.

  • is that onscreen fingerprint sensor?

  • This phone is so gorgeous!

  • A Huawei Y7 Prime (2018) is lot better in 170 Eur with Android One.

  • They seem to be?

  • But the average person buying this phone won't care about the bezels. They are not tech and spec heads like you or I.

  • I like that it's only about 70mm wide and still has a 5.5 inch display. Now, if only the camera had any decent specs...

  • I wont go with it, if all the 8 cores are cortex A53.

  • booting the lumia 520 to android is good ? i mean after booted i will work regulery ?

  • Large bezels on top and bottom. Nokia, you can do better! Look back!

  • The main thing for me is that it's an Android One phone. Take that away and what do you have? Without this surely nearly everyone would choose to buy another Android smartphone with a lot better specs, duel camera etc.

  • the only concern is the departure from a good snapdragon 430 for a Mediatek Helio P18.

  • 13k for a phone with 3 GB RAM, 5.5 screen, no dual camera,2970 mah battaery. Rubbish.

  • I bet!

  • i think 4gb is better

  • Indeed.

  • adreno 505 is much much better than Mali GPU . it is downgrade

  • don't see the mediatek or snapdragon . its all A53 based core ... fastest core of the 430 is 1.4ghz fastest core of p18 is 2.0 if you divide 2.0/1.4 it means 40% speed increase (in single core ). this applies even for kirin and exynos . but if the core is of A73 or A72 type it is 70-90% faster than A53 of the same clock speed .

  • then it would be called NOKXIAOMI

  • Why can't they make phones "Splash resistant" like moto, (if not IP68). very disappointing..

  • who told you that, the MT Helio P18 is 40% faster than last years SD430 chip.

  • Problem is that mediatek is mostly used in products what aren't well optimized (usually also have heavy custom ui) so the battery endurance and performance suffer, i'm interested to see how Helio P10 works on stock android phone.

  • Fingerprint in front mount but in picture is in rear.

  • and the NOKIA 6.1 with the old screen ratio. are you serious ?!!

  • bad phone it seems that nokia 5.1 is bad then nokia 5 because of chip set dragon is much batter then midiateck HMD globe did not surveying globelly lol

  • NOKIA!!! poor battery why did this put it in? It would have been a good phone...I don't understand. Very sorry :-(

  • Nokia said at their little shindig earlier that they always listen to their customers? Hopefully they will see all these posts here, there and everywhere and kick Mediatek to the curb next time. Are you listening (and reading) Nokia?!?!

  • why not sd450? it would be better if it comes with qualcomm sd450, everything else is acceptable. mediatek give first bad impression for this device.

  • the phone has insane looks

  • lol

  • It also says that the 5.1 has 4.2 Bluetooth whereas the 3.1 has 5.0 Bluetooth. Hmmm.

  • It doesn't even have USB - C never mind facial recognition.

  • nokia 5.1 sd 625 or 630 nokia 3.1 sd 450 nokia 2.1 sd 435 all mobile have 4000 mah battery

  • Battery 2970 mah low battery Helio P18 or Snapdragon 625

  • Mthp18 & 2970 mAh!?

  • Nokia 5.1 comes with very good sized display with high resolution... Build quality is fine with metal unibody... Colours are perfect and so the design... It was upgraded wisely so as not to increase the price... The phone should be judged considering the price... For a mid-range device since it comes with the latest android software it is nice.

  • What SoC is that? Never heard of Helio P18, can´t even find it on Mediatek website...

  • disappointing over disappointing..

  • Colours and design-perfection. Extremely Stylish phone-welcome Nokia 5.1

  • Is this a name for a device or a system update

  • This chipset is unknown.

  • The phone is good for... the phone is NOT good. :(

  • mediatek rip

  • Not a type-C is the actual deal breaker. This phone is good for kids.

  • MediaTek chipsets are quite good for mid tier phones. I have a Sony XA1 Ultra with the more powerful P20 and it performs better than any Snapdragon phone in the same price/tier

  • almost similar to Redmi Note 3... Not much of an upgrade.. High resolution, little more frequency to CPU and half the battery of redmi note 3...

  • Isn't mediatek is little deal breaker ?

  • does this have facial recognition?
