to this day this phone receives whatsapp updates and supports everything except the new encryption feature. the side buttons and the power button are terrible and easily fall off. all in all still a nice phone if you dont like touchscreens or smartphones.

I am still using this phone, i replaced the battery three times. even after fully shrink in the water my phone still works fine... i never walk in to a service centre for this phone. Nokia e51 is still my favourite mobile, i wish Nokia again make this type of unique products. i can use Skype, WhatsAap, Video call, MS-Excel, can receive and send email directly through my phone, can shear my High Speed 3G connection through WiFI HotSpot, Is having a very good quality of ear piece... and my very own Nokia Internet Radio, I am still a Nokia Fan.

I'm using the N8 but my E51 is still working too. I had to buy a new battery on eBay (the old one bloated) and the power button fell apart, it's made of rubber. The rest works like on day one.

I had this back in 2009 and in 2012 my dad bought me Nokia N8. Sadly it encountered System Error and the main menu button is not working until now. I decided to use E51 again and good thing it is still working!

I had my fair share of Nokias in my growth to an Android power user today. Starting with the legendary 3310 I moved with multitudes of Nokias including the radical 7710. my last Symbian phone was the Nokia N8. Loved each and every one of them. At some point I was using two Nokias- the N82 and the N98. The former's battery was not holding charge after more than an year of intense use and so I bought a new original BP- 6MT battery for it. On the second day, I sold the N82 to buy the just launched HTC HD2 (Win 8). The BP- 6MT battery remained. All these years, every few months I used to search online used goods sites for the mobile phones- N82/E51/N81 which are compatible with the BP- 6MT battery. Today I bought a E51 in fairly good condition for INR 900 Rs. Very good deal. Will update how the phone behaves with the unused battery. Would be fun flaunting this old phone along with my other cutting edge tech gadgets and smatphones!

Once try putting your memory card in laptop in windows system and check for bad sectors, this solves the problem sometimes or if it doesn't, change your memory card, its corrupted I guess. Other way to verify is try putting same song in internal memory and sd card and verify, this will let you know about the memory card is corrupted or not.

Hi Everyone. I'm trying to setup gmail on my e51. I followed the IMAP settings posted here: After configured and entered my correct gmail user and password, still I cannot connect to my gmail. It just keep on asking my credentials and i'm pretty sure I have entered them correctly. I'm using my wifi to connect to the internet, and i'm pretty sure i'm connected to the internet. I think you have to change your memory card, it might be corrupted. Flashing your E 51 won't solve the problem. "Unable to open" or "unsopported file format" simply means the file (data) is corrupt or file does not support your E 51. You can download Netqin antivirus, mobile guard to get rid of unwanted files or trojan when they are been used up by your phone memory or RAM.

You have to change your battery, the led indicator shows you how your battery is unable to boot your E51. Try it, if your new battery fails to boot your E51, then there is another option!

I bought this Nokia E51 January 2009, it has been more than 4 yrs now with it. I changed the battery 4 months ago. Yesterday, after charging it, I saw it self installing something..it showed like it was installing a software or something. Suddenly, I switched it OFF so that the installation could take effect. BUt when I tried to SWITCH IT ON, it did not respond. I have tried many ways including putting it on charge and switching it ON..but it has remained in OFF state. When I plug it on a charges, it charges the battery. But when I switch it ON...it doesn't respond. What could this be? what is the solution to make it ON?Please help me. my phone cant be switched ON now!! Help please.

Hmmm, it could be a hardware related problem due to something simply being old. Or software. Did you try reinstalling the software? There's an option to do it in Nokia Suite. You don't have to do a hard reset before doing it, just make a backup and restore it later. Maybe one of the apps did something to the phone software.

a wonderful piece from nokia after so many years..... compact, feature rich, big screen...and more. I have been using it for 4 years now without any problems. I have a 2GB memory inside, lot of music and photos, etc (all less than 2GB) and frequently do browsing. however, i am facing a problem now for a past month or so. The problem is that the phone hangs/freezes on its own and restarts. it does not do a hard boot, meaning that it just hangs (even between you doing something like web browsing, or SMS or calc, ... anything) and then the screen goes dim with the NOKIA logo displayed and then returns back to the main home page with keyboard locked or unlocked (as was the state before it restarts). the rebooting cycle take around 10-13 seconds and sometimes this happens repeatedly every 60-120 secs and goes on for a few hours. and sometimes, there is just no problem for days together. I tried resolving it by removing the battery and cleaning the connectors, but the problem still remains. i disconnected the wifi, removed some unwanted applications, deleted old SMSs, removed the memory card, and many other things, it still happens. can anyone advice what could be the problem, is it a hardware problem or a software or a wifi connection or something else. thanks in advance to anyone who can help. I dont want to part from this piece and it cannot replace any other gadgets. any help will be valuable.

Excellent handset. It's my primary work horse for six years. I am using it even after I bought a 2nd 4" Android handset. I love it because of it's compactness and set of rich features. Fits very comfortably in a single hand and very handy for making calls, checking emails/messages, listening to music. physically too it's in a good conditioin, except the side rubber buttons. My only complaint is that it's got a 2.5mm headset connector instead of the standard 3.5mm connector.

Regarding low speaker volume on E51, it happens because of speaker net gets stacked with dirt. You should clean it with needle or pierce a little hole on speaker net and then audio is loud and clear again.

That's true. The power button is made of rubber and it gets small cracks if you use your nails to press it, but my E51 is still working. Now it's a backup phone as I got an N8, but I just got a new battery off eBay and it's still good. There was an article on AllAboutSymbian saying that E51 is the toughest non-protected phone ever made. :-) As for the speaker sound, it's true it's a little lower, so there's nothing wrong with your phone.

Easiest way is to connect it to PC with Nokia Suite and "check for updates" but if your phone has a branded software (customized by your carrier) it might not work so yo'd need to take it to the service center.

If you are using a wifi router (ADSL2+)... Then just disable WMM(wifi multimedia) in router settings... (Wireless>Advanced) it worked for me... Before that it was taking 5-10mins juat to open a webpage..

Exactly, the rubber buttons show wear after some use but I'm glad mine still work OK. And yes, wifi is great, my E51 finds 5-6 wifi signals where iPhone can't find 1-2.

Nokia E51 was very expensive at the time of release that was way back in 2007. I bought mine at the the price of 200 U.S dollars in 2008. It has been discontinued according to status. Just visit your nokia store for the price, the price may not be as it is during the time of production or release date. The price will surely drop. It's a great phone with lots of features! Press options and select video call. You can only see the person calling only if the person uses a secondary camera on the device. Nokia E51 has been designed in a two-way video with voice. It's quite unfortunate without a secondary camera, the person or caller can only see you when you face your camera directly and vice versa.

Depends. Normal use - 2 days. If you just use it for a few calls, a little wifi and gaming, 3 days. But if you use wifi to download 400 MB of stuff, the battery is gone in a few hours.

Cell phone excelent. One trouble its the buttons in the right and the left of the cell, its made rubber. After one year, the buttons is gone. with the friction, there are no more and became only the holes, and do not think where to buy new. If somebody knew where i buy new buttons and can me indicate. the trick of buying an original battery...ask for the class a and original type compare them and ull see d difference and also the nokia "handshake" logo and d dots 1 2 3 4 on the 4 sides of the "handshake" logo is there. just go to acredited cellphone shops in ur place if there is no nokia center around...do the trick!!!

..was just checking phone details..and landed here...so thought to pay my tribute :) ..sure..rightly said its was then in 2007 an now 2012.. this phone is best of the lot Nokia has made. I still remember waiting for whole day to get this on the launching month. but it was worth waiting..I was very surprised then with so many features as I am satisfied now with its advance features. This phone still out performs many of new phones with features like 3G (HSDPA of 3.6Mbps) wi-fi email etc...all together worth sticking to this phone for almost 4.5 yrs now:) ..wishing Nokia all the very best to do something out of the box to get the same market share as old days...

strongly agree w u...i was able to bumped around for a 2nd hand e51 still working well...i changed its old battery bought an original one n what have u...after 2 days of normal use only one bar has diminished. there r lots of 2nd hand e72 n e71 in our place but i didnt "bite" them as i dont like huge qwerty units...e51 is simply a handsome mob slim, easy to use, lots of shortcut keys,wifi ready and so cool easy for texting, great sound even its got a 2.5 jack only and bought it on a cheap price!!!

For anyone having problems for sending messages, just erase the messages you received and the call registers. It will free the memory and make the phone work just fine. I have one and despite the absence of some features, it's the best phone for people that like small phones, physical keyboards and good build quality. I dropped mine two hundred times and just a few marks appeared.

I own this phone for 3 years now and a half, with heavy use (hours of talking per day) still working like day one, very durable, very fast and very customisable. Menu needs a little research to adjust to your liking all available options and find all it's uses but when you do it's really paying back in terms of usability. What's more, it's telephoning capability is unsurpassable according to my experience. Very good call quality and good signal under really difficult conditions. It's the phone that keeps you talking with just one battery line and almost no signal for as long as you need to conclude your conversation. In comparison to latest top notch smartphones it falls back only due to the comparatively small screen, basic internet experience and small number of available apps (which is a problem for symbian anyway). To conclude, i would suggest this phone to anyone who wants a stylish, durable, practical, customisable and highly trustworthy phone to cover their communication needs

Yes they are supported, I change them all the time. :-) You can find them anywhere on the internet, pages like www.zedge.net or www.tehkseven.net - just enter "Nokia E51" and search for compatible themes. If you get "certificate expired error" try changing the date in your phone to 2006, or 2008, 2010 etc, and when you install the theme change the date back to this year.

Go to phonebook, select a name, click "options" "call" "video call" and that's it. Of course you can only use the main camera to show them what you are looking at, but it's better than nothing. :-)

i had nokia E51 for 2 years. But now iam with 5320 similar to E51 but lacks wi-fi. The problem was dat it wud not less heat than the electric stove when started browsing and honestly i apolozise for installing third parties softwares. Then i flashed it in the nearest mobile repair center. It worked better til morning and now it just vibrates and the screen just appears black after a long vibration it swtchoffs. Your device needs to be checked by a service personel. When you drop your device accidentally, some of your device components (keypad, screen) may not function properly. My E51 had a similar problem but I was able to fix the screen. I've used my nokia E51 for 3 years! It has really helped me a lot, esp. with it's business applications (Pdf reader, quick office).

I've been using my E51 for 3 years, and I don't want to change it. It almost never slows down. But the only bad thing is that it often falls down-it's kind of slippery) And having been soaked in the rain some keys don't work correctly. Anyway, I love this mobile very much.

Who says Skype doesnt work on it? Skype is working perfectly on my E51. It is one of the main apps that I use. I always do free calls and chat over Wifi for free. I also dont need to carry my laptop all the time. E51 has been the best alternative for my laptop when on the move.

I have been using this phone for about 3.5 years now :) Overall good phone, reliable, gives me signal where my iPhone 4 doesnt, both on T-Mobile network. I've changed the battery once. WiFi works fine. I'm using Opera Mini - little slow but works OK. Too bad there's no Skype for it though, I need that badly. Also, at same place I can find much more WiFi networks compared to the iPhone, as well as compared to the BlackBerry Pearl 8120 that my friend has, LOL. - best of all is it's size, and reliability. And Wifi. - worst is its camera: for pictures it sux, for videos works OK though. .. not too expensive, so I would recommend it :)

By profession, I am a doctor, but I am very interested in mobiles. Nokia E51 is with me for more than 3 yrs. And still it is working great to me! Its a very very good creation by Nokia! All the rubberised control pad, the vol. Power and side keys are gone! I've replaced them with black plastic covers. Still it is working great! I've upgraded the firmware to version 220.34.37 and replaced the original battery with chinese local batteries 3rd time! (original BP6-MT battery is no longer available). But still it is working fine, and it is being used by me at least 8 hrs. a day for net surfing through GPRS, music play and of course for telephone! After 3 yrs. of extensive extensive extensive use(torture) it is still working great!! Thanks to Nokia a lot for making such a great piece of hardware!

you shouldnt sell your phone just because you dont like the camera. Its the least important in a phone. if you need a camera or music player then buy a camera and a music player dont buy a phone for those things. I never use e51 camera, its only for last resort option. My simple mp3 player plays music better than my phone.

The best phone I've had since 1998. Had it since 2007, change the speaker once and he charger connector, of course the battery after about 2 years, but other than this is is a very reliable phone. What do you mean by "3G not supported"? The E51 operates on 850MHz and 2100MHz UMTS bands. Menu > Tools > Settings > Phone > Network > Network mode: Select Dual mode or UMTS Some countries do not have 3G mobile networks (Cuba, Seychelles,...)

Hi, I used this awesome phone for nearly 6 months, but had to give up because the red on/off button at the top gave way, inspite of using it very carefully. Got it repaired once but it started to wobble again. The agent, a friend, said it was a common problem with E51. The volume rocker is also very stiff. But on the whole a very sturdy phone and was sorry to give it up.

Axe bro..Try formatting your handset again (phone) along with memory card.The problem wil be solved.E51 has a problem of icon left of those applications which you delete by direct formatting the E drive without uninstalling them.Next time try n uninstall applications before formatting memory card.Otherwise you have to format both your phone and memory card simultaneously.Good luck

the first smartphone iv ever owned. Very good. The best phone iv had so far. only complaint is the small screen and the rubber buttons on the side. screen is too small to enjoy movies. Looking for a application to remove unwanted application icons if anyone can help. I formated my memory card with themes on and the theme icon remained on my phone i hate that its misleading. Phone performance is great though and its fast upgraded my software and am able to use an 8gig memory card.

I am using a e51 for over 2 years and not even once it had any problems. n78 and e51 are two diff class of phones. e51 is a dated model now and i dont think is available anymore. i suggest buy e52 if you like the bar form.e71 has also become quite affordable now.

Hi all here, I am using E51 for last 2.5 yrs. There was not much problem at all, only it used to restart occassionblly during Airtel gprs connection, but the restarting never happened with bsnl gprs! I have used the oldest firmware version for 2.5 yrs. And yesterday I have updated the firmware of my E51 to version 220.34.37 through Nokia Software Updater connecting Airtel GPRS with the PC through the E51 itself! The NSU first downloaded the firmware file about 71 Mb, then it updated the phone firmware within 5 minutes! I am very happy I have done it myself, for which Nokia Care wanted Rs.200 from me!

E-51 is a big flop. It worked fine for 10 months but than started showing its problem. Extremely sensitive to sweat & moisture. Although Series 60 but not support all application. Till now I got it repaired for 5 times and finally dumped it. The IC and the keypad will give problems later for sure.

Definitely the best phone I've ever had. Its SIP VoIP built-in client is the best I've ever seen in the industry (well, maybe its successor's client, the E52, will prove even better), and runs rings around (is superior to) anything else. The only drawback I can think of is the absence of GPS receiver.

I hate the T9 in Nokia E51 (polish language). Thousands of misspellings, thousands missing words, and if you memorize them, after a while they're gone because of to small T9 memory (even though I put a 8GB memory card). Plus everything is gone once you pull out your battery.

Get a software called Handy Blacklist. It doesn't matter whether you find version 1 or 2. You should be able to get the serial for it wherever you find it. Just search for it using Yahoo Search. Type Handy Blacklist for s60v3.

Firmware 200xxx should be able to handle 8GB. I have 8GB, I don't quite remember which firmware I had when I got my 8GB but just try and see. Check the capacity and if it reports 7638 MB then you are good if it says 'No Memory Card Inserted' first eject the memory card and put it back in, if still gives you that error then you will need to upgrade your firmware. I'm using a Transcend 8GB Class 6 in my phone. It's the fastest memory card I have come across. I have a A-Data 4GB Class 6 previously but that was slow and slowed down the phone, especially when it was starting up. With Transcend the phone starts up so fast you would think no memory card is in the phone. Keep me posted.

Hi! Actually, when I scan my phone memory, I can only see 50MB file (including gallery), but the rsult of scanning shows me that phone memory is full - just 132MB. The only thing I don't like about UC Browser is that it doesn't show you the desktop version of websites. For instance Facebook, browsing Facebook from UC Browser is just like logging into Facebook from any mobile browser as the look of Facebook is the mobile version. However, on the other hand Bolt Browser shows you Facebook the same way you see it on a desktop PC. Other than that though, I must say UC Browser is extremely fast. It would be king if it gave you a desktop look as Bolt Browser.

HI gav.. according to me your problem is not of keypad lights... it is a problem of light sensor which is situated near the earpiece... first try to cover it by your finger and then see what happens... if the light again....flashes.. than there is a problem in your light sensor

HI if u want to use the fastest browser on ur mobile.. so u must use ucbrowser. it`s a symbian application so that`s why it runs more faster and more smoothly... and u can do multiple downloadings too. just go to "wap.uc.cn" and change language there.. after that download the soft. in english language.. and you are done. it is also a freeware software.

To RAJ: I'm sorry I took so long to get back to you. What I have learnt is that most PIM (Personal Information Manager) programs have a limited amount of fields for phone numbers. Nokia's OVI is like that and I suspect Microsoft Outlook is the same. The E51 have lots of fields for telephone numbers and you can replicate them creating thousands more. Outlook may have 'Mobile, Home Telephone, Work, Fax etc. You may have saved all 2 or all 3 numbers for one particular contact under one particular field like mobile, for example which would make Outlook recognise ONLY the first one. So what you need to do is to switch around the numbers in the phone first. Edit the contact and put each number in different fields. If you have 3 numbers for one contact put one in Mobile, one in Telephone and the other in Tel.(work) or Mobile (work) you get the drift. What you need to really do is to see how Outlook label the fields and then you can re-arrange them that way in the E51. Having done that send them back to Outlook and see if all numbers show up in Outlook. Please let me know the outcome.

You can use your E51 as an wlan hotspot too. Just install Joikuspot. Requires a 3G connection though. Overall, the phone is just great. The only lack is the missing true gps. Everything else can be done with it.

The problem is not that the battery is not working properly. I know their life is not long but the problem is the same battery is not easily available in the market - it is running out of stock at nokia dealers and nokia care shops. Even changing to an equivalent battery does not resolve the problem. So the problem appears to be other than the battery. Seems like some of its component has become defective leading to overheating even in the normal standby mode. So it lefts with few options - Either to get it repaired at heavy cost (nearly half of the price) or get the new one in less than 2 years!

A really good phone. I have put it through the paces, water and all. What users in hot climates like the caribbean should expect though is for the buttons on the side ( volume etc. ) to eventually melt. Not so good for the aesthetics of the phone but phone will keep on going

Excellent phone is all I can say. It's been almost 3 years since I bought this phone and I'm pleased with it. It's my 3rd Nokia phone after one very bad experience with a Samsung phone. One happy customer here.

It's a good phone until it starts troubling! I purchased this phone about 20 months back and it has served good. Now suddenly is has started heating up during making calls, battery charging and even itself (in idle mode) when left on for few hours. Another problem - It's battery (BP-6MT ?) is not easily available neither with Nokia care nor with Nokia priority shops. They said it is running out of stock and i have to wait for week or even more). Even the battery is not available on other shops like Spice mobile sellers. At last, I have replaced its battery to a new one (an equivalent battery but not Nokia's)to keep going but still it is heating up and sometimes it look like going to explode due to excessive heat. I contacted Nokia care and they suggested to send it to their service center for a look up which would take around 10 days. Also, their service changes (Rs. 2500) are quite expensive in addition to replacement charges, etc. So instead of spending lot of money on expensive repair charges, i think better option is to buy a new mobile phone. But it gives me a feeling of dissatisfaction with the quality of Nokia product which is letting me think to buy a new E-series phone in less than two years. Posting these comments for new buyers to consider this real time experience before buying this phone.

You should try Opera Mobile instead... That is the best browser for the e51, and it's much faster than that Opera Mini... I am using it and it works like a charm. Hope this helps!

To OSIRIS: No need to remove the casing. Just get something with a point - a pin, tweezers, finger-nail file (you get the drift) and gently put it in the mesh and gently pull it out. Use whatever method you wish but just stick the mesh and pull up, left or right. Let me know the outcome.

I have this phone for 3 years now, its a very good phone, I sent my laptop back to fix something and this phone save me to check on my facebook and watch on youtube, one more thing is I dont have a plan so it doesnt cost me a lot just using a WLAN and wah lah! keep me entertain while waiting for my laptop. Its also a theme downloadable so Im not bored everytime I open it. Just sad coz the back casing is a bit loose already maybe need to get a new casing.

Well the version 400 has a bad bug (at on my E51) where when someone calls you and you press the answer key the entire phone freezes up and the call remains unanswered. It would then automatically restart after about 15-30 seconds or stay frozen at times until you take out the battery. I hated that bug because you never know when it would kick it. It only happened to incoming calls NOT outgoing ones. another release came out, version 410 which has solved that bug. It hasn't happened again since I upgraded to 410. My advice to you is if you have no problems at all DON'T upgrade. I too had a problem with the earpiece speaker where I could hardly hear the person. I first solved the problem by using a damp paper towel to clean the mesh which covers the speakers. Eventually it seemed to have gotten really clog up that not even cleaning helped so I tore the mesh off it and it's as loud as ever. Even in the noisiest of places you can probably hear the person without bucking the volume to the highest. Take care and keep me posted and let me know how things turn out.

I have had this phone for 1 and half years now. An excellent practical phone. But there were two problems that spoil the experience. Many E51 have faced it. Some keys on keypad stop to function. There is problem with Keyboard circuit. I have it replaced from Nokia Care for Rs 1500 here in Pakistan. Works fine now. Second problem I don't seem to be able to solve. Recently sending an SMS fails. In detail it says "General memory full. close some applications and try again later" Although memory is available. This problem has appeared on many S60 phones. Firmware is latest, message center no is correct etc. Only way is hard reset through *#7370#. Problem is I lose all my applications and above all this is not a permanent solution. It will re-occur after 2 or 3 weeks. I will have to go through same process, lose my applications (rest of the data can be restored through backup but if you restore your settings too, problem remains). I have searched on internet and many E51 users are facing it and no one found a permanent solution. Nokia is quiet although it is there on their forums. Can any one help here to find me a permanent solution? If you do not have this problem, you can not lay your hands on a better phone! An expert please help me on this issue.

I used this phone for 3 years and so far the only problem that I have is when I need to replace the rubber for the power button. I just went to the nearest Nokia service center to have it replaced. Sometimes, it's not readily available so you have to leave your cell number at the service desk in order to be informed when the new supply will arrive. It is true that you should be extra careful when downloading MP3 files from the internet. I use Data Transfer option instead of the Nokia Suite since set-up is much faster and I made sure that I have a very reliable anti-virus software installed in my PC. You also need to regularly delete your messages. Do not let it go beyond 50 messages since it will somehow clog you sending or receiving text messages. I find the WiFi capability very convenient and the WAP connection is really fast. although sometimes I wish the that it would have been nicer if the screen were larger. This is also a solid phone and some may find it heavy. Battery life is longer as long as you don't use the speaker ( opt to use headphones instead ) all the time when listening to music.

To KANTHU: I have respect for you too. Seems like those viruses messed up your memory card. First of all, the best way to fix your memory card is to format it...which means you will lose everything. Connect your phone to a PC using the data cable. See if the files are shown on the PC. If they are shown then immediately copy them to the PC (just create a folder on the desktop or C drive and copy them into that folder) but don't open them yet as they still may be infected. After you copy them to the PC re-insert back the memory card in the phone and then format the card. Label the card and leave it alone. Use a PC antivirus to scan the files you copied to the PC. Just scan the folder you copied the files into. Just for the record, tell me the antivirus you used to scan them also the brand and capacity of the memory card. After the scan is complete and presuming all the files are ok again, connect the E51 back to the PC and then copy back the files from the PC to the E51. As always let me know the outcome. Good luck.

Good news for those who need to replace the power button. My rubber power button finally broke away in pieces from my phone. I was upset because its hard to get a replacment for something so common. Well i found out that if you cut a piece of bike tire tube about 15 x 4 mm more or less. Open your mobile and slide it in were the old button was. Close your phone then cut another piece to cover the top to fill in the 2mm gap. Join both rubbers with some super glue. Be carefull you dont touch any part of the phone with the super glue. There you have it. It worked great for me and you cant even tell its made fro tire tube.

You have to clean with alcohol and a tooth brush the fabric under the metal frame. You can tacke out that fabric with a thin cutter. Sweat and dust cause this problem.

Original Jamaica save my E51!!!!!! Lastnight my friend wanted to copy some music from my phone (memory card). After finishing he failed to eject the momery card and resorted to just disconnect the USB cable from his laptop. Later on when I tried to check my images and songs, I could not find them. I could only find one image but duplicated about 700 times, I tried to play music and it was playing well coz I created a playlist(s) like you advised me sometime back, BUT I cannot see the songs instead a picture could appear several times. I tried to delete the picture but the other appears, its going on like that. I tried to reset to factor settings still nothing. Now this morning I decided to scan that phone and goshhhh!!! 13 viruses were detected and cleaned but still no change. Am able to play songs thru playlist. When I press menu>office>filemanager>memory card> only three playlists which I created appears its like all the info on the memory card are hidden. HOW DO I GO ABOUT IT Original Jamaica coz I have respect for you... Am waiting for your usual tips mate

I've had this phone for just over 2 years. I've LOVED it, until my microphone stopped working and no one can hear me on a call. Around the same time, my friend with the same phone had a MAJOR decrease in battery life, ordered a new battery, still short life. It lasts only between 12 and 24 hours with little to no talking and very little browsing. I'm thinking of replacing with another E51.

The problem it fixed was a call bug where sometimes when there was an incoming call, pressing the answer key would result in the entire phone freezing up and the call would remain unanswered. just install a microSD into memory slot. connect the usb with a pc. choose data transfer mode in your e51. now you can get the memory card on your pc. cut/copy & paste from pc to mc or vice versa. disconnect phone from pc. now mc is avaiable with the phone.

The button will eventually melt and be disfigured due to the facrt that when youi are charging you phone, it emits heat inside so the rubber is greatly affected making it melt. Dont despair. Rubber keys are readily avail @ your nearest Nokia Shop for less than $10 for rubber buttons. Hope this helps!

The aluminium body heats up a lot during a call and it becomes quite difficult to continue if you don't have a headset handy. Another problem is if you are on headset, and switch to loudspeaker during a call, you cant go back to headset mode. WLAN and 3G connectivity is very good. Mail for Exchange very convenient for office mails.

To ASIF AHMED: First of all, what size memory card do you have and what brand? Also does it say Class 4, Class 6 etc.? If it's a new memory card with no data on it then use a PC to format it. You will need a memory card reader in order to do this. If there's data on it, then along with the card reader and PC, go to MY COMPUTER and right click the memory card drive icon, select PROPERTIES, TOOLS, ERROR CHECKING then check mark 'Automatically fix file system errors' then START. It should find the files and save them in the format FILE001.chk, FILE002.chk and so on. These will actually be the photos, videos, games etc. that you have on the card. Use VLC Media Player to open these files and if it's a video it should play it (in that case rename it to .mp4), if it's a photo it will not display it but it will bring up a message saying it could not open photo001.jpg etc. (in this case rename it to the extension the error report mention, eg. .jpg, .gif) so your files will eventually look like this FILE001.mp4, FILE002.jpg, FILE003.jar. FILE004.sis or FILE005.sisx etc.. Just use VLC Media Player to find out the proper file extension and use that knowledge to retrieve your files. Please let me know the outcome.

I wish you would use a proper name so I could address you proper...just as how you can address me by the name 'Original_Jamaican'. To answer your questions, upgrading your firmware will NOT affect your apps and games on the memory card. You can take out the memory card before you upgrade. Then put it back in after you upgrade. Upgrading your firmware will however, delete everything in the internal memory (also called phone memory). Make sure to do a complete backup of your phone to your PC or memory card BEFORE you upgrade the firmware. WLAN (Wi-Fi) routers don't always have internet access. Don't forget, Wi-Fi routers are used for wireless networking PCs as well as routing the internet to wireless enabled devices...so some routers are used for communicating between PCs only and not necessarily there to provide wireless internet access. What you should do is to try and use another device, like a laptop and see if it connects to those two hotspots you mentioned. SECMAN can be dangerous if you modify the wrong files but so far I haven't seen anybody complaining about it. When I say wrong files I mean system files. Don't worry though you should be fine with SECMAN because you would have to try really hard to mess up the operating system files. Keep in touch and let me know how the upgrade went.

I am using E51(Finland Made) for the past 4 months. Overall its a very good phone with excellent features. Only drawback is its poor battery life which lasts for only 1 day even under nominal usage. Anybody ever got Tomb Raider Legend (sis file) on their E51 to work? I had it once, it started up and played fine but a few days after something went wrong and I lost it. The memory card got corrupted and I had to reformat the card. Ever since that I haven't been able to get it to work again. It installs but when you go to the Installation folder you don't see the icon to start the game. When you go to APP. MANAGER you see the name there and that's the ONLY way you can uninstall it, by going to app. manager. Anybody ever had a problem where they installed a sis file and it didn't show up in the main part of the installation folder? If so and you got it resolved, how did you do it?

Hi hey2. How to update your firmware: Go to And download the latest firmware. Connect your E51 to your pc and run the firmware setup. Before doing all this, make sure you back up your phone. (All your data on your phone memory). Concerning the battery The life duration of E51 is quite short. Nominal use gets my battery to go for a max of 2 days. Normal use, I have to charge my mobile every 1.5 days. Extreme usage, I can fully drain the battery in just 1 hour. Wlan, opera, music, replying to text at the same time. Your gateway error Update your firmware to solve that error. That error happens on the 200V firmware.

There's a new firmware for E51. I've updated it and the wlan has improved. I can basically connection through any hotspots without having issues with gateway.

E51 is a great ph0ne,overall.Ive droped it a few times,the steel lining around the phone protected it.Supports almost all s60v3 appz,except some games.Its keypad is great,especially if you sms,chat alot.Browser rules,the speeds are great,due to hspda.The camera isnt that great,but you can make do.Overall,i adore the e51,simply because it was meant to last from the inside to the out.

i have gotta e51 since couple of years. My exp is not very good. I am a very addictive user of music, sms , calendar , text notes etc. I have gotta a very very bad experience of battery, I have bought a new battery , but it gives me a back up of only 15 hrs . Another thing is , the buttons for volume and s-w off and on is of rubber coated. Its mess. The buttons are placed very poor. It shud have been of plastic rather than rubber. I would suggest to think before going for this phone.

To those people who has problem with their respective rubber keypads (MELTED ONES) and those people whose chrome D-pad has faded....DO NOT LOOSE HOPE! I just had my phone fitted with a new body!Where? @ my nearest Nokia Care Centre in Alabang Town Center! I only spend a thousand bucks (Php 1000/ $22 ), technicians labor included. It only took me less than 30 minutes and viola! I have a brand new looking phone....It looks exactly the same on the day that I first had it. My phone will turned 2years old this 5th of May. E51 is by far the most reliable and the best phone I ever had. But I am giving up my baby in replacement for an E52. I am planning to sell it for 6k pesos but I dont have a buyer yet so I am shelving my plans of getting the E52 for now. lol

This has been around for a while, but it is till annoying that the bookmarks and folders cannot be removed. So the choice is yours to make. I did it with Nokia Maps Updater. After upgrading the fw to 410.34.001, the Maps app didn't start and asked for an upgrade. That couldn't be found directly from Nokia's site. Maps Updater updated the app and the maps were easy to download with Ovi Suite.

install nokia pc suite on your computer. connect your phone to your computer. the option to upgrade is included in pc suite. it takes about 12 minutes to complete, but be sure to backup any data u want to keep.

To AM: I don't know of any easy way to change the body cover. You will need a special screwdriver, I believe it's called a torque screwdriver...providing you get the housing in the first place. Are your rubber buttons still intact, especially the side ones?

I have a Nokia E51 and tried to insert a Vodafone Germany sim card. After I enter the pin cod the mobile phone gets an error like : sim card not registered. Therefore it can not see the network. I've tried with a Debitel-Vodafone sim card and it works. I have the same problem with a Nokia E63. I want to add that I have tried with 2 new sim card and I have made a firmware update and I have the same probleme! Can anybody help me? 10x

Shock!!!!!!!! The reason why you get shocked when you hook up your phone to your PC is because your PC has to be earthed. It happened to me with my phone, camera, Mp3 player and what ever I happen to plug into my PC. The solution is to attach a wire at the back of your PC on one of the screws and earth that wire onto something and you will find that you wont get shocked anymore. Joe.G

Hi Thahir. Comcerning your key pad light its automatic and there is no setting for the light. If you take your phone in direct light the key pad lights go dimmer, if you take your phone into a dark room the key pad lights will go brighter. You can only adjust the light on the screen but not the key pad. Thats how it is mate, the key pad has an independent censor that controls the brightness of the light. God bless you Joe.G

Hi mate Ive had my nokia well over 2yrs and everything is in tact including the rubber side buttons, I dont use the rubber side buttons much I usually access my main programs from the shortcut keys or displays on the screen, that does save your bottons. Some have also complaned about the start button breaking off! Well firstly I hardly ever use my start button, and if I have to restart it I use the explore feature that alows you to re-start your phone by pressing a button. In over 2yrs i have only had my phone jam up twice and I guess thats because I had so many programs running at the same time? If you want applications or themes, then its a waste of time to donwload them directly on your phone. This is what I do. I download them on my computer then use my bluetooth to pass them on my phone. Here are 2 websites for you. One is for themes and the other for games. Now concerning your SIM issue, why do you keep chaning sim cards, just buy another cheap phone for the extra sim card. The E51 is not suppose to have the sim changed. Now if its your memory card then just increase its size. Most of my software and programs are all kept on my memory card, I leave my phone memory free so that the phone runs smoothely. As for the sound it should be resonably loud especially if its a new phone. How much did you pay for your phone? Is it genuine? I bought mine for about $300 Australian dollars (more or less) I find that half the problems mentioned on this site are problems you would get if you buy a non genuine phone or an ex test phone with faults already in the phone. All my phones have been nokia, that does not mean nokia is the best, there are other brands wich are just as good, but before I buy a phone I do my homework and check the pro's and con's then I decide what phone to get. Anyway I hope I was able to help you in some way God bless you Joe.

To AM: I always prefer charging cellular phone batteries when they are completely empty. I believe it preserves the longevity of the battery. With my E51, sometimes I cannot help but charge it before it's empty...based on the circumstances surrounding me at the time. To make up for that, what I do from time to time is re-condition the battery...the process known when you get a new battery and do an overnight charge for the first time (conditioning of the battery). Even though the phone is dead there's normally a little power left in the battery but not enough to do anything much with the phone. To completely discharge the battery (so you can re-condition it), once the phone reports the battery as being empty and automatically shuts off...hold down the power key which may or may not power on back the phone (depending on how weak the battery is). If the phone powers back on keeping calling your voicemail until the phone shuts off. Once again hold down the power button and if the phone starts up again, call your voicemail again. Keep repeating this until the battery gets so weak the phone refuses to power on. After the phone refuses to power on, pressing the power button again should light up the display sensor while the screen remains blank. Keep pressing the power button down until the light sensor indicator light stop coming on. This may take a few minutes. Once the xenon light from the sensor stops coming on then plug in the charger and let it charge until phone says battery is full or you can simply leave it to charge overnight. This is known as re-conditioning the battery.

Hi I changed my battery after 2 years of heavy usage say atleast 2 hours of intenet usage every day. Ofcourse sometime during connecting net I used to charge the mobile also at the same time. May be this could have reduced the life a bit. OJ could throw some light on this.

To BILA and LEON: If you people are talking about the E51's earpiece speaker above the screen and not the loudspeaker at the back of the phone you have nothing to worry about because the earpiece volume is very loud. The mesh covering can easily make it sound low because of dust and other debris that can easily build up. When I first got the E51 the earpiece volume was really loud. On average I would keep the volume on 2 or 3 out of 10! The only time I needed to max the volume was when I was on a very busy street or major commercial areas and no matter how noisy the environment was, I would be able to hear the other person clearly. However, a few months later all that changed. I had to struggle to hear the other person and I wondered how could such a loud speaker get low just like that. It was later on I realised it wasn't the speaker but the mesh which covered it. If you use a damp paper towel and wipe/clean the mesh across then you should notice a difference but after time that may not help and in that case just take out the mesh covering. You can use tweezers or any thing slim enough to get between the earpiece speaker and just pull it out. Believe you me, you will learn the true power of the speaker after that.

Ive had an E51 for about 12 months now and managed a fleet of around 150. Very solid phone but a couple of major problems, the rubber on/off switch breaks very easily, there are intermittent faults with the keypad. apart from the usual such as they dont like water or being dropped, I would steer well clear unless you can get one with a solid on / off button. I currently have 17 faulty units to go bak under warranty, not bad out of 150 ! Buy an iPhone instead
