I had one of these when they first came out. Being in the US it was a bit tricky to get it working properly. You use to have to download ROM's and radios that worked best for you, sounds like a PITA but that was part of the charm.

This is a great device, use opera mini for web browsing & it loads pages as fast as a Laptop, these are Built to last & has a Great Hi-res Screen, Battery only lasts a day with Moderate to heavy use, which is still good, as a laptop will only last upto 3 hours. Great alternative to a laptop if you want simple Browsing or Want to watch something on Youtube, Very cheap to buy used, as i Managed to by mine for a bargain price of £30, the keyboard is one of the best i've used in a mobile device.

thid phone has been proven to be faster then the first iphone so i dont know where you get your information from also it has alot more you can do qwith it then a normal phone also about the memory yes it low thats why you stop been cheap and go out a buy a 2gb sd card for it simple and then you have a desent amount of memory!

you must connect the device to the pc,open the Windows device folder through the PC and open the Font folder. Paste it there from where you copied it. It will then working,but keep in mind that the fonts might take some spce formn you flash memory. You CANNOT use dail up internet on th eXDA EXEC becuase you need a link to your labndline. You will have to use the internet connection to your wirless network or use the settings from your phone to connect to the internet.

Active Sync works fantastic on XP with seamless integration with outlook. However, Sometimes Active Sync gets all your USB slots of machine corrupted. The solution is a very dump thing. Powerdown your machine. Remove the power cables to get away from any residual power in your machine. After about 10 minutes, start your machine with all cabling in place. NO NEED TO DO FANCY DRIVER UPDATES AND ALL OTHER TROUBLESHOOTING.

This is a great piece of work in hand held devices. However it has got some many nice feature and many limitations. Please note, I have O2 with WM5 installed. NO IDEA ABOUT PERFORMANCE AND FEATURES WITH WM6.

Not that it is a big deal but just thought I would let people know. With that said- NOTHING compares to this phone. :) Just don't buy from wmcellphone on ebay. They are one of the big sellers but those are refurb phones and not brand new. They are also the chinese versions. They have scammed many people. I've had my XDA exec for a year now. In simple terms it's amazing. Eye Candy & Function all rolled into one cool micro/laptop/phone. I'm however searching for a way to upgrade to Mobile 6. It was easyly upgradable to windows 6 pro. You can load any type of software from pocket PC like accounting mp3 player, FTP manager. It was a mini laptop if you use most of its function. Maybe by accident you've deleted then software for the camera. If so, even if you try to a hard reset of the system, it won't work. You have 2 options, either you search for its software on the net or you update your OS, that is if your OS is still WM5. Log-on to seeo2.com for the ROM update & if successful, not only do you ake your camera working again but installed the latest Windows Mobile 6 in your PDA... cheers!

I get frustrated using the XDA Exec. When I tried to synchronize with Windows VIsta, I couldn't. Trying to download the driver software from internet as requested by microsoft failed. But running the driver software from CD that came with the gadget, the CD does not work. Frustrating ????

HELP !!! Cannot Pass Through Align Screen I got an O2 XDA Exec and I used it for two days without any problem. But today I found the touch screen does not work with stylus. So i tried to re-celebrate the phone but after trying for several hours it is still asking to re-align. Perform a Hard Reset on the handset and it will restore all the missing options or icons.Make sure to sync it with a PC before u do a reset as it erases everything on the fone.

I just bought an unlocked O2 EDA Exec: I took it to ATT yesterday to get a sim card and turn on cellular and data service. After she removed the battery and put the SIM card in - now all get is a blank WHITE screen. After we did a soft reset to no avail - I took the SIM card back out and switched out the battery for another which is charging now. I still don't see anything coming up on the screen like before. Does anyone know what a blank white screen means? HELP!

Hi, I bought O2 xda exec two weeks back,its having problem in detecting SIM, and this problem is not very consistant, sometimes it works fine I tried following things 1. I adjusted the SIM connectors 2. I changed the SIM in order to make sure that the problem is not with SIM 3. I upgraded ROM as well as installed WM6, it starts working when I upgrade ROM but stops after some time. 4. I tried switching flight-mode on and off, again it works for some time and stops again. 5. I even tried putting some paper behind the SIM to tighten it, sometime this technique works sometimes not. So till this point I am not clear that this problem is mechanical(SIM socket)problem or software problem. I think Yoni can help me as he had same problem.

I dont have any problems with the software or the battary of the phone and actually in thease departments I am actually happy. Except from one time when the LCD screen smashed without a real reason, something fell on the phone 'while it was closed' (NOT heavy though) it was my keyborad, and I had to pay 100 pounds to repare only the screen. I honesty regret for buying the phone in the first place... Its to big, the camera is only 1.2MP and the colors are only 65K, most of all... if something brakes you will have to pay a lot to fix it or you will just put the phone in the trash.

Gunjan, It looks like your device is stuck in the boot screen.Did you attempt a ROM update or change.If you are not expert in it get some professional help,you may need a ROM FIX/change/reload. Try this if you have some knowhow, There are other fixes also,just don't brick your precious Exec,good luck.

Ankur,check how much memory you are using by going in settings-system-memory.Check storage as well as programme memories both.You say you have 2GBSD,then try to keep both memories free as much as possible.Do not store images,clips etc on device,move them to SD.Do not assign many ringtones as they will eat up the memory,install maximum programmes on SD and not on device.After using Pocket IE (or other browsers),go to IE-menu-tools-options-memory and clear history and delete files every time or your device will slow down.Do not run many programmes at the same time,go to setting-system-memory-running programmes-close the programmes you are not using.That's all. P.S.Please get SPB plus,SPB backup,memmaid or SK tools.Bye,enjoy.

To Jay, sorry for my late response.I have a transcend 4GB card and the Exec & the card,both are working just great.No problems for me.I did not require to partition it. I have just upgraded ROM to Windows Mobile 6, and it too is working just fine.Just dumped the extended rom.The camera is better,message delivery notifications are there. Have new core media player,better than TCPMP. Only glitch is in the contacts,is there anyone who can tell how to move contacts( more than one at a time ) from SIM to Device or vice versa.And also how to send multiple contacts to an another device at a time? Bye,and keep tinkering with your Execs.

To Andy, if you need to change the number of rings before your call is forwarded to your voicemail, u need to call u service provider, they will provide you with a gsm code to allow you to have a longer ringing sequence before your calls get forwarded.

I have the XDA Exec and have a few issues with it and was hoping someone could help. My main problem is that when I get an incoming call, it will only ring 3 times then go straight to the answer message. Even if I press the answer button on ring 2 & 1/2 it is usually too late. The only thing that I can find that seems to apply to this is in Settings, Phone, More. I have tried turning automatic pickup on and changing the number of rings there but it makes no difference. Is this just an annoying feature of all XDA Exec's, if not is there anything I can do or do I just have a dud. Any tips, comments or info would be gratefully received. Cheers

This device is great, I am owing one since last six months, craked LCD but got it replaced with a huge cost but still love it as it helps me in my working. I am seeking for some answers if anyone could help me out- Do we have any s/w sites for this to download new and updated s/w. Is it a common problem of hanging, if the Bluetooth is on for a while. Pictures are clear but a slight movement of the object makes the picture jerky.

If you have any mobile phone problems both manufacturer or accidental damage then go to the carphonewarehouse with your proof of purchase and if its a warranty fault they will repair it within 14 working days for free or if not they will charge you a standard �40 charge for anything else ie cracked screen, etc. Hope this helps

To zoya: Yahoo messenger DOES NOT work on the O2 EXEC! Rather install Agile Messenger than struggle with yahoo messenger.With Agile messenger you can do even google messenger all in one,use the call option in yahoo aswell. I upgrade form the EXEC to the Orbit and still the Agile messenger on the Exec and Orbit.Just make sure your pc is not log into MSN or Yahoo mesenger,you cannot log into it twice like google mail. Hello,kc,I never faced any problems regarding the softwares.There're a lot of 'free lance' software gurus who gladly offer their expertise and I never needed to contact O2.I am a medical doctor and I mainly use it as a PDA.I frequently visit xda-developers.com to clear my doubts.Now I am going to buy a 4GB SD card and need to learn its 'partiotion'.Just know the Exec's limitations,as every device has its pros & cons.Bye.

Well,kc,if I say I never face software glitches it would be a lie,but there are a lot of software experts here in India who are always ready to help you(of course for a price).I've used many Nokia phones,loved the 6600,used Motorola mpx 220,hated it,then came O2 xda IIi,adored it but yes the battery problems,and now the Exec.You should realize that every device has its limitations and the smartphones & PDAs have to be supported by lots of third party applications,and PDAs like Exec need ROM updates.I am a medical doctor and mainly use it as a PDA.I never needed to contact O2 for software problems for IIi or Exec.Find the 'really reputed free-lance' software experts or simply visit sites like www.xda-developers.com.Bye.

Hi,you surely can send images or videos or anything to another device via bluetooth provided you have that much free programme memory!You need the much needed Resco file explorer to do that though.Also you need TCPMP to view the videos in full screen,the Resco picture viewer will also solve your problems.I've exec for 4 months and I use PIE(not good),netfront v3.3(good),opera(much better) for browsing.I've no experience with p990 so cannot compare,but it's satisfatory.Remember people, you have to install a lot of third party applications(some of them have to be bought)to get the best of this amazing MINI LAPTOP,not PHONE.

I am not a user but I think it is simply a masterpiece.I loved it when i saw it.I've read that it presented some problems,but I think that the company(O2)should keep this exterior!The combo keyboard - screen is ideal for sms,e-mails etc.And maybe something which rolls like pc mouse would be best than stylus.Also RAM,battery,screen and memory should be improved a lot.But please do not change the outfit!!!

hey guys. i recommend this phone over any notebook pc. i own it since may 06 from ebay.ca have it unlocked out of box from london, UK seller for 950$CDN for rogers network. its amazing. i show it off to everyone. have a extra 4GB SD card aswell and skype and wireless B is amazing. motto Q sucks. just be careful with this phone and have the case and an extra lifelong battery. ttyl ciao.

I bought mine about 2 weeks ago. I got it and at 1st was please with everything, except the phone. I live in Florida and I bought it unlocked from from Hong Kong. I picks up on my GSM provider, which is T-mobile...however, whenever I want to make a call...it starts dialing the number then automatically drops the call and a few times it goes back to flight mode...I mean I wanted a smartphone, but not one that was a free thinker..lol. Everything is fine...but man it would be kewl if the phone was just as awesome.

Can ANY ONE tell me how I can send a contact via Bluetooth.I can receive via Bleutooth when it is selected to receive any incomming and is available to others.It seems there is not a facility on the XDA EXEC,not sure about the XDA MINI.If you have THIRD PARTY software and where I can download it from will be great.I use now HanDBase for databases and is better than I thought. If you thinking of using Yahoo mesenger on your XDA EXEC,download Agile Messenger and you can use it hten with your MSN Messenger and even GOOGLE TALK. The SKYPE work wonderful on mine without any trouble,other people complain about it,WHY??? My next upgrade with O2 will be the Orbit if it can handle SKYPE with the Texas instrument 200mhz processor.Some one said it might be a 3core chip,if it's true,it will be able to handle it.If it doesn't,I will just ask O2 to redo the upgrade back to another XDA EXEC. in order to connect activesync via bluetooth, u have to add a com port that will allow the connection btwn the phone and pc. this can be done thru your bluetooth settings on pc, and make sure the com ports correspond with active sync's settings. GPRS connections settings for the phone can be found in various forums on the web. just do a search. this allows u to connect to the web without a wi-fi connection.

I got my replacement XDA exec yesterday from o2 but it has no word or excel on it. Why would this happen? Also it wont even automatically find GPRS internet settings which it usually does. My memory starts at 27.83 storage memory which I know is far too low and it should be 31mb storage memory. o2 said I should first try and get a flash upgrade from the shop. Is this right or should I just send it back. I now have the option of chosing another handset but I see the Exec as the best one so not sure what to do other than get another Exec.

Active Sync should only run when a USB cable is inserted and u ask it connect always. If its still running without the cable go to task manager and tell it to close Active Sync. My XDA Exec crashed on me 5 mins ago. I just have a white screen. 4th time its happened now.

I've also had 3 XDA Execs in a year. Same problem with the phone crashing and me just getting a white screen. However I love the Exec. I have so many good programs and all I want now is an upgrade. I can upgrade now but thre isnt a Pocket PC on 02 out which I want instead of the Exec. I thought something else would of been avaliable by now?

Those who are so negative against this pda phone want their Nikon, Canon, Pentax and what ever camera spec built-in this phone. All I can say to them, shame on you!! If you want to take digital pictures, use your digital camera and NOT the XDA. So can I say about them who are complaining about the quality of the sound for mp3 music, stick to your IPOD or Creative Zen, or what ever MP3 player you have? Although this is my third one in 10 months, the problem I had with it, was plain NOT my mistakes but the ROM update and software that malfunctioned. After six months it started to crash during calls or did a soft reset by itself. I took it to the O2 shop,O2 update the ROM, but when it came back, the sim card holder couldn't lock in position .I could see the marks that it was broken with force to put the test sim card in it....So it was sent back to repairs again. After eight days I received a brand new one. Then after the instalment of the GPRS monitor and PDF viewer it crashed about four or five times and reset during a call. Like some one else, I had to phone customer care at the O2 Centre ,the one person, can not mention his name, was very helpful to me and gave me even an email how to install the up to dated ROM. After three weeks it crashed again, phone them again but then a very RUDE,ARROGANT helper told me that the midlet manager is not suppose to work for the customer!!! I took it back to the shop and after seven days, O2 gave me new one. Since then it was still function well and did not give me any trouble. I have installed SKYPE on it and works wonderful on the device. Other programmes I use on it are MXIT for FREE TXT'S on the wireless network at home. To use the mxit on the device you have to go on the following website: www.mxit.co.za/wap and select the MOTOROLA V220's midlet to install. Unluckily the IMATE JASJAR's midlet is not working well. Make sure all your friends have that on their phone and add them like in MSN chat. Then I also have Bible Reader, E-sword Bible Program, Mobipocket Reader, VERY GOOD READER and then THE LONDON UNDERGROUND MAP.NO MORE paper maps for me and it also can work out the journey time between stations. Plan to install the TOM TOM gps on it and according I heard, it work great on it. My contract on O2 expires end of December and I might go for the same one again, because it is already the TOP MODEL in the XDA range. If the XDA MINI s had the same specs like the XDA EXEC in a NEW model, it was the one for me to go for. The replacement on the XDA EXEC will be the HTC TyTN+ .It has all the capabilities of the XDA EXEC but looks like the XDA MINI S. When I phoned O2 customer care if they will launch it, I got only a response that is only available in Asia, why them and NOT here in the UK. If T-MOBILE has it, WHY CAN'T O2 NOT HAS IT ASWELL!!! Thinking of buying it at the second shop and just unlock it and then use my O2 sim card in it. Additional features Full MS Office could be a better option so you could have MS Database on it. It is after all a business phone/TOY!! What a bout push email and HSPD. They could put the following in the box, cradle and car charger, a protective screen layer and case that you do not accidentally press the record button. The record button could be slide action, there is enough space. What about a CF card slot on the side or a jacket with extended battery. HINTS The stylus jacket get worn out easily, so do not use the one inside, rather buy a stylus pen and forget about the original one, or leave it at home. DO NOT USE THE O2 ACTIVE ON THE DASH BOARD!! It slows the device down. Install the following programmes: Adobe Reader 2.0, Engineering Calculator or Business one, Real One Player and also KSE TRUE FAX from the XDA MINI. It is cheaper for me to fax from my XDA EXEC than a normal fax machine to any where in the world and even faster. I can not go without these programmes and use it everyday.

Consider this one a mini laptop with a communicator capability also.If you are looking for a real good PDA,a communicator with 3G,great screen resolution,office suite,full E-mail functionality,capable of fast browsing then this is it.If you want a 'plain phone' to stick to your ear or just a camera with a zoom,stay away from Exec.This one is really for executives with a little bit of I.T. knowhow

I got bored with this phone within a day. Its rubbish for calls (if you dont get your ear just right you cant hear anything and if your phone is shut you cant tell who is calling) and texts (impossible to text in a car without crashing, on my old phone I could feel the buttons and text without looking). I just takes so long to do anything that Ive stopped using it all together which is good for my phone bills. If you sit and stare at a PC all day then this phone is just like that. BORING AND SLOW

You certainly can use the Exec with OSX. Get the Missing Sync for Windows Mobile v2.5.1 from www.markspace.com. Works fine with Address Book and iCal but does need a bit of help initially. Found this on their support forum which relates to problems with connecting via USB. Once I got this installed everything worked fine.

Dear Visu: I am writing this comment in reply to your qurey posted on 2006-10-10. Being a frequent traveller you will get very few other contemporary replacement of O2 Exec. You should go with this option almost without any hesitation. This is the one that can meet almost all of your mentioned requirements. I won't like to comment about your 'Fax' requirement becasue I have never explored Exec for this option. Otherwise you will the complet MS Office for mobile including Outlook. For PDF: The original pack comes with an 'Application CD' that contains "ClearVue PDF Viewer". What else do you need Visu to have your entire office with you when you are on move? The only problem is its size and weight, a bit bulky if you consider it as a mobile phone only. But don't forget this is also a PDA and that makes sense for its designed weight and size! You will simply love it. Outstanding! Enjoy your travel times with O2 Exec!

You get to know your phone after a while. It is nice, superb keyboard, especially when you send sms' often. It does not support EDGE unfortunately. If you are used to good quality pictures, I personally find the 1.3 mega pixels camera not up to the challenge compared to other 1.3 mega pixel camera phones in the market. The phone software is not as brilliant as expected. It is an expensive phone for a heavenly PDA phone. Can be used as a Wifi- spy with all the details about the wireless networks in range. I hope this would help.

I have noticed that on my xda exec the keys have been touching the the screen side of the PDA and have caused the keys and the plastic that was touching the keys to be warn away slightly. Has anyone eles had this problem?

This is a great phone but after 3 months the power connector on the phone broke and I had to get it repared, very flimsy! At the sam time I was in the o2 shop someone eles had a problm with it but no insurance. Take out insurance on this phone!

I have installed quite a few programs on my exec and stored on my SD Card however each rogram still takes a bit of space from the internal memory. Is their a way to increase this internal program memory or not? If so what do I need to do? Can I put it in a shop and get them to put more memory on the exec?

I have O2 XDA Exec for a month now and I have already experienced a number of problems, worse is when You seek help where nobody from the network helps you. I think this device has not been tested properly as it stucks most of the time, bootloader failure as well as ROM upgrade. Nothing really seems working, Currently my XDA Exec is frozen and when I contacted service centre I have been told I can send it to them and if they can not repair it they send it back to me, without even asking me what is wrong with the device and that says something about the customer service. If there is a way I would have cancelled my contract and returned this device. Please take my honest advice if you are planning to buy this device check product recall list. The design and the intended usage of the design is excellent but neither the hardware nor the software works and should have been tested more the device would have been the best in the market. O2 needs to improve the customer care service. Above all I like the device but it doesn't work.

A truly good product, but unfortunately not excellent.The producers of the XDA Exec had an oppertunity to make this are real must have useful gadeget. with such a big screen it is difficult to imagine why any picture or video is thumbnail size, what on earth were they thinking of? the Ram memory is too small, so consequently the device frequently freezes. there are a number of third party software products that work on the xda11i which do not work on the Exec. fax capability is just one, but there are many more.I am also on my third Exec,having had problems with the others constantly freezing. Nevertheless, it's sleek, well designed and attractive.If it's the latest gadget your after with potential to improvement with updated software, then this is the product.The email capability and sending of pictures via email is excellent. my verdict is this product is good but could have been excellent, must try harder!!!! p

hi everybody - thought i'd let you know (unfortunatley we have no specs so can't give exact details) o2 are planning 2 new handsets - O2 ICE - which will be available as a contract and pay as you go device which according to current information will be launched W/C 04/09/06 and also O2 JET which will be released 02/10/06 any1 know if o2 is simply re naming these - as i wanna no what they are - asalthough i am prone to hate o2 branded handsets they sound as if they may be alright - just by names - they have some decent features (expecially JET) - if any1 knows if these are simply renaming other models can you blast me an e - mail through and take it in good stead that this is acurate - i work for o2 tech help desk - but we have been NO specs (i wish we had though)

Recently purchased o2exec for use in Australia, everything worked well for first 2 weeks including a 4Gb SD card, however cameras (front & rear) both now display and capture a crappy green image. I assumed something corrupted the software since both cameras hardware shouldn't fail this way at the same time. I've tried a hard reset hoping to fix problem, even upgraded firmware but still not fixed! any sugestions?

Have been using this phone for about 2 months and am loving it. Havent had any problems so far. Unlocked rom for some extra memory in the phone. Make sure you do that.

Although when this phone first came out software did run slowly and very buggy, how ever there has been a software upgrade released from o2/Microsoft and this has solved most of the slowness issues from the first software that came with the phone/PDA Only issue with the new software is that the MMS function no longer works for me.

I've had mine for just under 2 weeks. and now.. the screen has died. it only works when rotated around.. it cannot be used in normal keyboard input mode. love the device apart from that.. just reallly dissapointed its died on me. calling O2 to see what they can do.

I have a few questions hopefully somebody can answer them. First I have been checking the prices on these exec xda and are they really worth the price? I like the style and design of it the most but after reading some of the comments it seems like it crashes alot and has other problems. I and trying to figure out if I should save up and get this one or should switch to sprint and get the ppc 6700? Is there anywhere I can get it for cheap b/c I went the uk website and they had it for 147.00 GBP and it said pay as you go. I know the converstion is about 1.5 of our money meaning US so it would be something like $300. I would definitely do it and have the service with Tmobile but just making sure I am looking for the best option.... Thanks a lot.

A replacement for my P910i??? Well... It's a nice PDA, but it's software runs slows and often crashes. Quite big if you have to actually put it to your head without the hands free kit. But hey, it's supposed to be one of the best business phones on the market right now. As much as looks shouldn't matter, they do... So... I'm waiting for the P990i, but have a look at the review on infosyncwolrd.com. They rated it 95% out of 100%...

Having owned the same XDA1 since they were first released in the UK on O2, I felt I should upgrade to an XDA EXEC if only to have the newest Windows software. And after six weeks I hate it. Yes it looks like a mini-laptop but none of the business related software I use works on it other than basic Excel and Access, admittedly neither did it on the basic model but that was half the size. The delay in picking up calls can frustrate. Its awkward to open and answer the phone, the control buttons are not intuitively placed and the twist round screen feels fragile. It regularly re-boots itself mid-operation or when accepting a call. One is unable to choose to call the sender of an SMS or add them to contacts without using a pen and paper. The battery life I find impractical for out of office use and often needs recharging midday. It also takes an age to fully recharge from a USB. As a business tool I would say it looks great but fails to deliver and it's just to big to be a practical phone. The screen resolution is brilliant but I didn't have an issue with the basic model, plus imported images don't expand to full screen size. I will go back to my basic model or the XDA 11i.

The internal ROM should be at least 1GB in size, because its not good for that big xda loaded with only a few ROM, and few RAM, its useless to carry that big having a small capacity.or at least the ROM/RAM should be upgradeable.just a suggestion.because the design is almost perfect, dont consider the big screen.

HELP!!! I was downloading the updated software to me xda exec and all of a sudden it wont turn back on. The power on button doesnt seem to work. all it has on the screen is on top "serial" and "v1.0" on bottom. I tried the hard reset and the screen does light up to do the reset but after it said reset ok...back to the "serial, v1.0" screen. CAN SOMEONE PLEASE HELP!!!!

hope O2 XDA Exec will be improved by having a second display and keyboard similar to that of the Sony Ericsson M600 but clamp shell type like the Nokia 9500 instead of a swivel type display so that at closed position you have the option of one-hand SMS operation or touch screen/hand writing recognition. Of course packed with latest advanced features, an additional camera for video calling at closed position and three SIM Card slot with software applications so that user has the flexebility of chosing what gsm network service provider to use for cost and signal considerations.

Re: Push Email - sure, I've done it. I use the middle grade service at 4smartphone.net. Brilliant level of service from those guys for the equivalent of a measly $6/month. They even have a superb 15 day free trial. I now have my tasks, calendar, contacts and emails all synchronised OTA (over the air). Wonderful, I tell you. I was in the dark as to how to do it initially, but the guys at 4smartphone.net and kept me right.

Hi. Had XDA Exec for around three months and I love it more each day. I download torrents with Winmobile Torrent, Use Resco Radio to listen to internet radio, watch tv programmes on it, surf the net, use Leonard Maltin's electronic movie guide, make calls with skype and have Real One, TCPMP, Avantgo, Codewallet and adobe installed (I use a 2gb memory card,) together with loads of photos and music files. I'm even using Word Mobile to do some creative writing in my spare time. Best gadget I've ever own (oh I make some calls as well :)) The phone is unlocked, so it works with my orange sim card. Yes, the battery is a bit short (expectedly I suppose) and using just SD Cards does limit the amount of memory, but it's a great piece of kit. Would love to see some kind of TV Out / TIVO type function periperal for connecting to a TV, but eh, you can't have everything.

I bought an MDA pro the same of xda exec for umts and navigation. I have tried the umts with this pda and it is really working slower under the same conditions same network same, same website, when I compare to my notebook with pcmcia umts card. ıs thıs related to operating systems to be so slow.

This is a great phone. Although I bought mine on Orange (SPVM5000) no problems at all. Works fine, I check my emails with outlook, there are few SOFTWARE problems, as with all Windows products, but im sure future patches will fix it. It has pocket msn, I chat to my friends, check my hotmail. The Wifi is great, screen quality is great. I downloaded a XVID player and now watch movies on it. The battery can be charged via a USB cable, so u dnt really need a charger if u have access to a computer. Its a great phone. But if ur a granny who doesnt want to learn how to use it, it aint for u. U need to have prior knowledge about computers and pdas. 9/10. 1 loosing here is because of its size.

the O2 XDA Exec is not for pda/phone illerates. There is a huge learning curve with this phone especially if your in the USA and not using company the phone was designed for. 1. Win Mobile 5 is not like Win XP, you have to learn how to config and optimize it. Its like that on all PDA's. 2. You will need to learn how to update the ROMs and Win Mobile. If you're not a tech/computer geek this can become overwhelming with all the various roms and updates. These updates fix issues with the phones which most people complain about. 3. Again don't think you can use any pda right out of the box on any service without doing an UPDATE! you're going to have problems regardless. 4. in comparsion to the Treo, Sidekick, the MDA, the phone is just about the same size. It's thinner than all and about .3-.5 inches longer. which is really nothing. 5. it's an expensive device, so don't run out an get it just because it has Win Mobile 5 realisticly have a use for it. Everyone wants features on a phone but usually rarely do they use them. I had the motorola v3 razr and those the video recorder was cool, but honestly i used it probably 2-3times in the entire year that i had it. Again you will have to LEARN how to use a new operating system and learn how to update your ROM regularly. If you want a stable device you have to do that, I've had to update ROMs on all my phones to get rid of minor glitches. No device is 100% perfect.

I just received the 02 XDA Exec using it on T-mobile USA. Its a AWESOME phone/pda. the 8hr talk time... that's great for a pda of this power and size. You can buy an extendend battery if you want 16hrs+ but it'll bulk up the unit (it comes with a special cover). Everyone wants a Small device with power, packed with feature. Be realistic people. Who talking for more than 8hr a day on a cell without charging? buy a car charger, stop looking for negative things when really it's a great pda/phone. it's about the same size as a sidekick so it's not huge or overwhelming. people think it's big without comparing size specs or even holding the device. It's actually thinner than the treo, sidekick, and a bunch of other popular pdas.

hello ppl ive noticed quite a few negative points on the forum about the xda exec and i want to clear a few things up, this device is amazing, this was my first PDA and it went down a dream. sure its has its faults like every phone, uninstalling the o2 software gets rid of nearly all the faults, wifi/bluetooth works great and installation of programs is swift and easy, never had any problems with screen breaking. the only fault that remains with my device is that when you use the phone alot the internal memory used for running programs decreases and will only go back to full when a resety has been done, i only have to do this once a week and this is a fault with windows mobile 5 so 10/10 for this device

My first XDA exec had a battery life of 8 hours and was unusable. I returned it. My replacement is better. But installing programmes (tcmp/reader) is poor as is bluetooth. I am using it now as a cheap PDA and carry a proper phone which I bought as a pay as you go (K750i). I would not recommend this phone. o2 online are appalling.

I'm looking to purchase an 02 XDA Exec today. Reading the other reviews, they don't appear to be very good! - can anyone recommend an alternative - has to be 02 (as that is the only network as I get), need to be able to down load office files, and I like the idea of WIFI.

Have had my Exec for around 3 months now. It is a big piece of kit, and that is exactly what it is a piece of kit. If your after a phone for everyday calls and taking teh pub not for you. If your a high end user (with teh technical knowlegde to cope with the MS software) then your in luck. A true geeks phone. HTC we love you.

(i don't mind!) easier to use if left opened and swivelled like a normal pda. can be fiddly to use as so many features and functions! heavy on the battery though! overall 8/10

Scott-I've had similar problems with the MMS settings. Phone o2 and insist on speaking to someone on the XDA helpline. I think the problem i had was due to the new software upgrade disrupting the message settings if entered within one hour of a hard/soft reset. Either way the XDA helpline will talk you right through it.

Hey, this i s a great bit of kit, recieved mine yesterday, did the basic install so no O2 active on today screen, but i cant send or recieve mms messages. Contacted O2, they emailed me different setting to try, which i have inputted. Can now connect and browse internet fine, but still cannot sort out the MMS issues. Anyone got any ideas???

andi c-You need to have the XDA connected and have active sync running. Then using 'My Comnputer' or the 'Explore' option in active sync find TCMP file and double click. Most if not all applications are installed this way,i.e active sync recognises what your trying to do and starts the process automatically. Then follw the instructions on the handset. Ben-You could try good old eBay, i've seen a few people selling damaged EXEC's with screens intact,though they don't come up very often and still command quite a price. My advice would be to claim on your handsets insurance for a new unit. If you don't have insurance then get some,leave it a few weeks and make a claim.

Simon-Try downloading something like 'PocketDivXEncoder' i'm pretty sure its the PC based software that TCMP recommends for converting. You'll be able to play windows media files without any conversion but they eat space on your memory card.Real Media files are usually more compact but images appear blocky and sound can be poor. I would say AVI offers the best value in terms of card memory used and picture/sound quality. There are alot of conversion suites out there(most are free)if the one above doesn't suit you. Has you EXEC arrived yet?

Which one is better? O2 Mini S or Exec? The answer is simply Exec because it has everything rather than Mini S, particularly the prosessor. The advantages of Mini S, so far, are that it has quadran band (not triband or WCDMA) and its price is quite reasonable.

Razor-My advice is to download "The Core Media Player" (TCMP) its a free program that'll play most formats you've heard off and a few you haven't. There is an accompanying desktop program to convert you DVD's to a smaller format though i have problems with this myself,i.e figuring out which DVD file is the full movie plus sound,browse a DVD in "My Computer" and you'll see what i mean.

Apple-to download anything be it games or apps to your EXEC all i do is have active sync running and double click the icon for the item to transfer. This should automaticaly start the install wizard and guide you through the process. I haven't tried dragging and dropping and to be honest i don't think it'd work as you need to install via the PC/active sync.

My Exec been giving me problems recently. Screen turning bright white or black screen. Anyway on sunday it froze and when I did a soft reset it just boots up to the O2 logo and stops. Something wrong with my software and gotta go into the shop for repair. Happened to my XDA IIi as well. MP4's wont play if the bit rate is incorrect. Also download the core media player as that plays many different file formats.

Jit-It really is all down to your requirments. The MINI has the same basic features as the EXEC only scaled down for a more compact unit. It has a slower processor and isn't 3G. But according to this site the EXEC only has bluetooth v1.2 where as the mini goes one better with v2. Not sure if thats right, i'll have to look into it. When researching it myself i worked out the mini is about the size of the nokia 7610, for comparison purposes. You are sacrificing that great swivel screen though, which for me was one sacrifice to many.

I got this phone a couple of weeks ago. I must admit, the size did put me off, then I thought its better the most standalone PDA's and specs are brillant and its a phone, and when you pull it out you get WOW whats that! and then you tell them it does this and it can do that and they are just gobsmacked.I have not yet had one person say anything bad about it. I got phone for �100 on 02 400 talk & 200 text, all for �21 a month, cause I knew the bloke in the shop, he got me a staff deal, so Could'nt not take it, and he said after 12 months I can carry on the same traiff. I would recommend a buletooth headset, rather then holding the phone to your ear. This phone is for anyone really, not just business men, if you like your gadgets - would recommend.

Not quite true, correct me if I am wrong. I have this device. It is claimed that WM5 has persistent memory which is what Basil say that hard reset, everything is there. Maybe I do not know how to use it, I have done hard reset 2 times just to try out this feature, but my contacts, software installation is gone. Of course I have backup via Activesync to restore the info. Can anyone teach me how to use the WM5 persistent memory feature, that is, doing a hard reset, all info will still stay intact? It is also my dream to have all in one device. I think HTC will take another 1 to 2 years to realise as there will be volume problem to house everything unless someone shrink everyting into an IC. Dream device features include, - 3 M Pix or more Camera, 2 M Pix is outdated - FM Radio - Size like O2 Atom - 3G - 3 GSM band - External Memory (SD/SDIO preferred) - Big QWERTY Keypad - Touch screen - All the features the EXEC has. Having enjoyed XDAs from the very beginning, I have to say their tendency to crash has always been a problem. The IIi has a great backup system both to a PC and internally. I cant believe the Exec is so advanced that if you re-boot it from a hard reset or soft that it will remember its contents. Yet it has absolutely no back-up facilities, either to PC or internally. Are we going backwards here?

You know Casper i wondered the exact same after toying with the camera for a while and realising it could be better. I've trawled the internet like a cornish fishing boat and can't seem to find anything relevant, but its a natural design progression i'm sure. I'm hoping to see 2mp+ on the camera and a more compact size. Being as this is their flagship model and its only just seen general release it might be a while till the exec mk2.

To use Chinese, download from the website (I cannot remember, try use google seach) to search for either CE-Star or Monster Chinese v5.x and install it. Any kind soul can help me with a question, WM5 is supposed to have "persistent memmory", anyone know how to use it? Hard reset still removes all my info and need to re-install and recover from backups.

My personal favourite media player is TCMP (the core media player) another free shareware program that will handle nearly any format you can through at it. The program is rammed full of options including the all important full screen option.Enjoy.

Furious funk-i use Magic Button which is a freely available task manager.It shut applications properly and has other fucntions like a battery meter and soft reset-very handy. I forget where i got it but its licence free shareware so its available all over the place. Enjoy

4q8E-It really does all depend on what you wanna use the phone for. I'm no businessman but i choose the EXEC to use as an extension of my laptop. I use the internet all the time and would be lost without a permanent method of viewing it and my emails. Plus the media side is second to none. Films on the massive screen are a joy to watch, TCMP helps alot. So if you just wanna a fancy phone go for some aluminium nokia thing with shiny bits. But if you genuinely need the functionality the EXEC is your best bet.

Now i am brand new to o2, and after reading the opinions here for both of the o2 pda's, it doesn't seem like an ideal choice for me. Nookie-you don't actualy need third party software to do this. Each of your contacts should have the option to assign a different ringtone to them.Just below where you input the mobile phone number is the option to assign ringtones. Remember to store any sounds you wish to use in the following folder:- windows/rings/

There are ways of making tomtom and other sat nav programmes run on the xda exec but i think you have to install some cad files or something similar. The below link shows a guy on ebay who gives you all the info for cost or you can find the info for free with a bit of digging around online.

To be honest i don't think i've had a sinle software glitch/problem and i got my exec about xmas. I think most of the problems have been solved. I got my exec for �99.99 and try as i might i couldn't get a free bluetooth headset. Mind you they did give me free half price line rental for 12 months (02 600-�30) and one month totally free. If you ring up asking for your PUK code to move to orange and make up some offer they've given you then you should be able to get them down from �149.99,depending on your tarrif.

Hey - I just got the O2 Exec to test it out for a day. Its a nice phone.. good graphics - But i suggest not to buy it as it is slow do to heavy resolution and a whole lot of other programs and the first day itself I had to click RESET thrice. I'd rather stick to my O2 mini.

3 problems i experienced and still wondering how to get those ironed.. 1) Phone pad does not pop up 50 percent of times and needs a soft reset. This is bad during an urgent call as it takes atleast 2 minutes to come up after a soft reset. 2) Horizontal and vertical screens mesh up many times after the swivel action of the screen. 3) All applications have to closed through task manager thus taking more time. Aint much happy about this problems. Any suggestions guys ???

Had my XDA for several months now and have experienced some of the problems that other users have particularly with the o2 Active User Interface causing system problems, however I installed the latest software update from o2, (Version 1.13.188) and I haven't had to soft re-set since. The update removes those annoying o2 and battery icons, stops the error reporting and removes the "Personal" option from the set-up screen although you can install the o2 Active User Interface from "Programs" if you wish. It drops a nice little battery indicator on your today screen that's pretty cool! Seems all we have to do is wait for Microsoft to make programs close instead of minimise and we'll all be happier. Of course, all this doesn't make it perfect for everyone, nothing ever is, but it's getting there for me!

Got mine yesterday (thur 29), great piece of kit, have not experienced screen freeze that other users mentioned. Video play back on small screen only, full screen has black borders and jumpy. all connectivity I have tried works, just wifi to try. This is new stuff so stick with it and wait a while for the patches and 3rd party software. Bluetooth headset a must.

hm... for those people trouble connect to the wireless router, try disable all the firewall ( zone alarm, norton security ) and it should work perfectly. i had that problem as well. and now. it workin perfectly. cheers and goodluck

Remember guys, this is full sized PPC/PDA with 3G capabilities. The main thing is this phone has 640x480 (vga) res. The processor need to work harder. I still don;t know what graphic chip that this phone is using. Unknown... (hx4700=ATI Imageon, Axim 51v=Intel 2700 3D). Send & Receive file via Bluetooth = dreaming, must install resco explorer to do that. BackUp = more dreaming, must install sprite back up. HTC please listen to me for future development. RADIO + GPS + WiMax built in PLEASE!!! I will pay whatever the price is.

Got my XDA Exec three weeks back. Encountered several problems and need verification from all users if this is a product genieric problems or my specific phone problem. 1) Weak Phone signal, at times call dropped consistently for not more than 3 minutes talk time. 2) Storage card just failed to be detected until a hard-reset is done. 3) Unable to create the virtual com port for my bluetooth GPS receiver to communicate, until lately installed another third party software called GPSProxy.exe. 4)Significantly slow response comparing with my XDA2 which was running at 400mHz??? 5) Occasionally failed to make incoming and outgoing Video call, require a soft-reset. 6) Occassionally failed to activate Skype call, the software just shutoff by itself. Appreciate if someone can enlighten me if this is generic problem or my phone specific problem. Despite of these issues and it's heaviness, the phone is great in design (appearance.

hi in regards to the memory space i to have the problem of memory gradualy going down even though applications closed. i have noticed for instance my memory will be 27mb, then if i open poscket word and then close it, the memory will go down to 26.8mb. and so on, i cant say i have continued to do this until the device starts to hang. also in the specs it shows you have 128 flash memory and 64 memory for programs and storage. if anyone knows could you please explain how this works because even in the memory manager the total storage space and total software space addeds up to around 94mb, how is this? is the 128mb flash memory not viewable or is this built in with the other memory. please advise thanks

I have contacted O2 and Microsoft about the problem of slow performance, no phone at times, and locking up. I found the central problem is the storage memory when it drops below 7 Mb it starts all the freezing problems that everyone is frustrated about. Can I ask everyone who can to look at there Settings--> System Tab ---> Memory Icon. 9 times out of 10 you will see you are approaching or below the 7 MB of free storage. Once you do a soft reset, I get 23 Mb of free space and it gradually goes down as I use the machine. I took of the O2 active and am running Spb Pocket plus and can monitor storage memory on the today screen. With more use I can see this memory approaching 7 MB. Even though Spb allows me to "close" programs, this never takes me back to 23 MB. This is why I believe this is a Windows mobile 5 problem. Therefore for you O2 Exec people running the stripped corporate version, can you report if you have this same storage memory phenomenon. This would lead to a Windows, Mobile 5 or the exec manufacturer (HTC)problem.

This is a very good PDA/phone indeed. Pocketable, easy to use, good functionality. Works best without the O2Active software (set it up in Basic or Corporate mode - various other posts explain how); nice screen, decent keyboard for its size (not for touch-typing though). Good points: features, call quality, usability, size (I find it quite comfortable to use as a phone) Bad points: this is my third one in a week; the screen on the first one died completely after 3 days; the second one also had a faulty screen that wouldn't respond reliably to the stylus; this third one is fine. Message: there are some build quality problems at present so make sure you have a good one or get it replaced. I got mine free from O2 on an upgrade (O2 600), and it's worth every penny .

i have recently purchased O2 XDA exec. problem i am facing is that once i transfer all my phone book detials and after that as i have to select few of them, i can not do so ?...meaning by ...say i have 100 contacts details under the head contacts....now after that i want ot del 5 of them or want to trasnfer 5 of them ( which are placed togehter ) i can not select 5 of them in a scroll mode. they have to be done 1 by one....

I too was annoyed at the lack of full screen playback with media player so i have installed TCMP which is a freely available media player that will take care of virtually any format you care to though at it. The full screen option is a joy to watch and you can adjust nearly every aspect of your playback.Get it here

Does ANy one else have a problem with the phone function. When i tap Start and then phone sometimes it doesnt come up. Also some times when i click on phone it just brings up the call records list ( missed calls etc) but wont let me make a new phone call i have to do a soft reset to get it to work. The phone seams great as a PDA but rubbish as a phone and very unreliable - but still cool Please help me!!!! Rick

Having got one on its release date, i nearly returned it due to it crashing A LOT! Simply do a hard reset and do a BASIC install. The o2 Active software on the Today screen is the culprit. Now i never have issues with it, i love it to bits! The o2 500 tariff is fantastic (not that i'm biased because i work for o2 :P )

Can anyone help with a memory problam. My storage memIory keeps going down even though I havent downloaded anything to the phone memory. Also when I try and downlaod something off the internet with the exec the file will just automatically try and download to the phone. On the XDAIIi you was always asked where you want the file to be downloaded and you could choose storage card but the exex doesnt do this. Do I need to change something in settings somewhere?

I will def be getting one of these next month. Popped into an O2 store last week to have a look at it. They have an amazing offer on which will last till the end of the year. The tariff is called "New O2 500" (12 months contract for any i-mode or 3G phone) and as you'd guess you get 500 min xnet, 100 txt, free voicemail and ITS rates (good international rates). Plus for the first 6 months you get to choose 1 of 3 treats 1. Double min & txt 2. 300 extra txt 3. 300 extra evening & weekend min. Personally I will go for the first option. I will be using this to get my emails when out and about or abroard on business and when I get home I will check my emails normally on my laptop. Now, I'm hoping someone can clarify this for me... When I get my emails on the XDA Exec does this then delete them from the email server so I can't download them on to my laptop when I get home ? When check my emails now on my SE K750i it will leave the email on the email server so when I check my emails via outlook express on my laptop it then download them and delete them from the server, which is the way I want it. Please can someone more technical than me clarify this ??? Many Thanks.

I have had this device for about 2 weeks or so now. Its a great device but you need to have a clear idea of what your going to use it for. Its too bulky if you want a found to 'occasionally' browse the web or 'occasionally' get your email. As a PDA its great, PPt, Word & Excel work just great. Yes, it can slow down and removing O2 Active definitely helps. I think that it is very well thought out with effect use of hot keys and screen shortcuts. If you have the need for a combined device, get a bluetooth headset and enjoy the freedom. If you are only going to be a casual user, look elsewhere. The key is, is it fit for purpose.. the answer is Yes, Yes, Yes. 9/10

Great machine, but alot chunkier and heavier than my previous XDAII. Connects to the internet in seconds without any problems, and the phone is a big improvement on the previous model too, being clearer and better when on speakerphone. Not convinced about the battery life, being long enough, only time will tell, but apart from that, seems good. Windows Mobile 5.0 is again more stable than 2003, making it a better overall package. Buy one, apart from the size, you wont be disapointed. CHRIS

Hi. Does anybody experience the screen having a slight "bubble" in the middle of the screen? I notice this when using my tap instrument. I don't find it happening on the sides of the screen, because there the protective layer is very close to the touch screen.. but I do find it in the middle. Is this a defect? If you are having losts of system crashes or poor performance for your exec, do a hard reset, select coperate setting using code 0506 and it will boot up with out o2 active installed,Havent had a screen freeze in 2 weeks and performs a lot better genrally

Really bad! Just returned mine to O2. This is a truly awful bit of kit. The processor isn't big enough to run several tasks at once. It's heavy, too big and won't take a drop on the floor - changing for a samsung D600. Had the exec for three days and had nothing but reset after reset because the device kept locking up and crashing. Poor signal strength also. Keep Away from this. It's real bad and al your mates will laugh at you when you pull it out of your pocket.

The XDA Exec only has 64Mb of RAM. The XDA IIs and IIi both have 128 Mb RAM. Why the difference? I have over 2,000 contacts and fear that 64Mb of RAM isn't enough. I had many problems with the original XDA which only has 64Mb of RAM. Any RAM issues?

can confirm removing o2 active menue from startup does seem to stop screen hanging when changing from horizontal to vertical display. o2 recommend turning off system error reporting to speed things up,can't say I noticed any change.

Waited almost 6 months for the handset befor i could get it.lovely handset. full laptop functionality. No problems connecting wifi. no problems with the keyboard. no screen hangings. no onscreen keyboard messing. i would like to give out a suggestion. to use the exec. to its maximum effiency please remove o2 active from startup. u can do it by going into file explorer, my device, windows, startup, click at o2 active icon, del it. restart the hand set. there will be no o2 sign on the quicklaunch bar. that will boost up the speed.

Also on my XDAIIi I made a backup of all the programs I downloaded on my SD card and then restored them when I had to. I notice on the XDA Exec this backup option isnt avaliable unless I have missed it. Can you backup programs downloaded onto memory cards or not? If so how is this done?

Got my xda exec on upgrade today. �45 a month 400 mins and 100o texts with 02 online. I too am having problems with wireless connection at home. I'm using the same settings I used on my XDAIIi to connect wireless to my Wannadoo livebox but cannot get a connection with the XDA Exex. Am confused and not sure what to do. Can anyone help? Re: Free internet. I see 02 are running deals now offering free i-mode till 31/12/05. However I should be getting charged now but am not so will be interesting to see if this changes.

Regarding the phone pad issue, I can confirm that I have the same behaviour on my Exec. A soft reset didn't help. Personally, I am not too bothered about this since I doubt if I would use that mode in preference to keyboard input anyway. If you install 3-4 apps on the XDA phone memory you will already start to notice a decline in performance - Especially if they are large. It can be done but I would not recommend it. The first time I set up my phone I installed about 5 apps on the phone and it was pretty much unusable. Installing on the memory card direct will not work (via a card reader). You have to do it via the phone and the onscreen options let you choose the memory card as the place to store it. I do not get the phone pad issue. I use handwriting recognition fine. The only time it disappears is if I start pressing keys on the hardware keyboard as the software input disappears but this is normal. You may have a bug caused by either faulty phone software or another program you have installed. Try a hard reset and if no joy return to O2. If you have not got any 3rd party software closing a program just minimises it. End Task in Task manager actually closes it. You should be able to open any programs you close properly with task manager without the system crashing. Check you available memory for running programs. If this is low it may not allow you to open a new program successfully. Removing the O2 interface. A little more tricky than a regular uninstall. You need to remove the O2 VR from a folder in windows/start up. Then reset. WHen it restarts uninstall via your pc when connected with active sync. If the worst happens and you cock it up doing a hardware reset will restore the interface again. Even if you do not replace the O2 interface with a better one the default windows interface is better anyway. I was a Beta tester for the 02 active interface when it was still under development and although a lot of work was put into it, trust me you are not missing much by removing it. I wouldn't recommend installing winzip as this is builtin to windows Mobile 2005 anyway. PocketMpeg and Smart movie are both inferior to the TCPMP player from tcpmp.org which allows you to make playlists of nearly any type of video file and play it full screen with different aspect ratios, zooms and more.

Help me please!! The 'Phone Pad' input method will not work for my xda exec. When selecting it, it stays on keyboard method (or reverts to it if it was on, say, transcriber or block recognizer mothod) Does anyone else have the same problem? My hunch is that it's a bug which will affect some but not all, depending on the ROM version you are running. Could anyone who owns one do a quick test and let me know. I tried both soft and hard reset, no solution with either. Thanks

I got my exec yesterday and have to say it's great. However this is my first pda and I am confused by task manager. Why is it that when I close any application I can reopen it but if I do an end task for the phone, I cannot get the phone back up and running without doing a soft reset? Also why when I end task on internet explorer does it still maintain a connection via GPRS? Am I being charged for this? Any comments would be appreciated. Thanks

You can store programs on the phone though cant you? Whenever I have tried putting programs on the memory card my XDAIIi wont recognise it. I have to store Pocketmpgeg player, smart movier player, Winzip on the XDA's memory. I guess You can do this with the Exec cant you and it still runs fine?

I very much appreciate David Longs super helpful reply regarding full screen video. Being non technical I am alittle worried about deleting the O2 interface and replacing it with an alternative (SPC?). Is this easy to do and how do I go about it?

Simon - You problems are with software. 1)Windows Media Player 10 for some reason does not play video files full screen. A patch is likely on the way until then use an alternative player (there are lots of free one out there I have posted a link to a very good one earlier) 2) You likely have many programs running and need to close some first. By default Window mobile leaves every program you open running even if you think you've closed it until it runs out of memory and then it might attempt to close some for you. This is a stupid idea and you need an interface mod to correct this or manually go to task manager and shut each one down everytime you want to close something. I use the SPB interface and removed the 02 one and not only does it run much faster but when I close a program it actually close it (or I can choose minimise). Also be aware there is a limit to the size of photo you will be able to zoom right into. If you have an image over 2mega pixels you may run out or memory before you zoom in very far. Again the degree you can zoom in will greatly depend on the amount of free Ram. Also aviod installing anything (apart from interface mods) on the phone itself. Use a memory card or you will grind your xda exec to a halt. It is still the most powerful and best bit of hardware for a mobile available but the software needs some work. My most annoying nigle is that you cannot adjust how much memory is assigned to running programs and how much for storage. You need very little for storage as you should be storing on your memory card and when the software decides to split it 50:50 or worse it can be annoying. Again this will likely be resolved with a software update or 3rd party software. Hardware: 5/5 Software: 1/5 Replacing the software should solve most issues. Again with the GPS questions. GPS is not builtin - if it was it would be on the spec sheet. However you can connect your usual GPS kit to it via bluetooth. You will have to install the software onto a memory card. One warning. If you install is more than 40mb you may have problems installing via the activesync. This is because rather than installing straight to a memory card it stores all the files on the phone first and then extracts/installs. Stupid and again I am hoping Microsoft will address this in the next update.

I have had the xda exec for about a week and am still undecided whether to change it for a K-JAM when they finally arrive in the next few weeks! My main problem is the way it handles MPEG4 video files. I can't get full screen or sound. Also if I want to zoom in on my still photos, after a few touches of the zoom icon a message pops up telling me there is "no more memory". Does anyone know how to resolve these issues? Other than this I am enjoying the xda exec but it is big and answering the phone quickly can sometimes be a bit of a problem.

Had my XDA EXEC for about 10 days. To be honest im not very happy. O2 Think I got a faulty phone. My battery doesnt last a day. when bluetooth is enabled with a headset has anyone else noticed the flaw... You cant access PHONE (program). If you switch off bluetooth. You got to do a soft reset to be able to access PHONE (program) again. So does anyone else have anyproblems or am i just the unlucky one?

Hi all, without subscription around �399 UK Pounds. Not much this phone cannot do. Saying that, TomTom 5 GPS won't install on it yet, but I'm sure that will be sorted soon. I think the reason is Windows mobile 5 OS it's a bit too new lol! So if your buying for that reason beware!!! Haven't heard anything much bad about it can be slow at times but I think this may be one of the services that run in the background playing up, so it may need a bit of tweaking to get right.

Handwriting recognition = confirm. Seems to work better than the XDA2 version GPS = No You have to buy seperate hardwear and software for this 3G Modem = Yes but do not throw away your data card. 3G through the phone is only 128k rather than the full 300k you get with a data card. Unless you get a data tariff on the phone and even then I am not 100% if O2 will get the same 300k as with a datacard. Software: You MUST have the SPB Pocket Plus software it makes such a difference. Remove the 02 interface before this is installed as it makes everything slow. Hardware: Good memory card is a must 256mb is only �17 on play.com Bluetooth headset is a must - using this brick as a regular phone can be a pain but a headset that supports the XDA Exec voice recognition can make it a joy.

Just phone up and ask for an "XDA EXEC" on an "18 month O2 500 Online" tariff. The handset then costs �139.99, and you get one of 2 options: 1000 x-network anytime minutes + 150 txts, or 750 x-network anytime minutes and 750 txts. Either for �35 a month - a fantastic price that I couldn't resist !

Just got the XDA Exec.. all very exciting and also daunting. I got a fab O2 max deal for 2000 minutes a month plus bolted on a business data tarrif for 200mB a month for an extra �25 per month. It syncs fine with PC over USB, cant get bluetooth to sync. Can find the PC and vice versa but just cant get them to excahnge info! My old bluetooth nokia headset works fine with it. WI-FI is easy quick and seems to take over from the GPRS/3G so no costly downloads if in a hotspot. The GPRS manager is great and gives you detailed info on the front screen of how much you have downloaded and if you have gone over your mB allowance... Calls are a bit clunky and hard work but thats probably cos I havent used a PDA phone before. Has anyone tried using it as a 3G modem for a laptop and if so how?? I am about to get rid of my vodafone data card now I have this and want to surf on my laptop with this connected... help! Also any cool software I shoul know about??

I called O2 select to get mine and was quoted �150 and a wait to get it so I went to the o2 store and they gave it to me a day before release for �130. My earlier comment about panorama mode was incorrect, in this mode each picture is 640x480 but you can stitch upto 6 frames. After several days testing I have to say the battery life is impressive. As you can imagine I'm on it nonstop and it still lasts 24-48hrs between charges. There are some great apps for it, my fav at the moment is a program that lets you stream online radio to the phone via wifi so you can either listen with headphones or hook up the phone to speakers/amp and listen to internet radio without turning on the PC. I'm going to try out the vnc software this weekend to see how easy it is to control my Pc remotely with my phone. If you get this or any other windows mobile/pocket pc check out tcpmp.org for the free video player, much better than windows media player and can play nearly all formats fullscreen.

I am due an upgrade on November 30th but O2 always let me upgrade early. Got my last one after 6 months. They said If I upgrade today I will have to pay �300 however if I wait to end of October I can have it for free. They said I can stay on my current �45 a month which gets me 400 anytime mins and 1000 texts. I have XDA IIi at moment and O2 give o2 1mb browsing however you do no O2 Internet is free. Those guys havent charged me for over a year. Loads of people say they get free GPRS internet with o2. I'm always on the net with my XDA IIi but am never charged.

Should arrive wednesday for me. The deal i blagged; rang o2 select, upgrade price on all 02 select customer tarrifs is 229.99, i moved up to 02400 on 18 months giving me 600 min xnet, then i got 3 months free line rental = �135 and then 20% off the line rental from month 4 for life thus my line rental will be �36, �1 more than i am paying now on 02 250 and i get 350 more mins and 100 more texts. They coannot move on the inital cost, hence the free line rental which when taken into account knocks the phone cost down to �95, add in the �9 per month saved on line rental and i am happy with the deal, oh and I've sold the black nokia 6260 for �70 that is now surplus to requirements. Please be aware O2 have 3 sets of tarrifs and all are different, with varying offers on this phone high street, o2 online and o2select customer.

Again, the imate Jas Jar, Qtek 9000 and Xda Exec are all pretty much the same. They are all built on the same design and just branded by the particular provider. The O2 version has a nicer color and finish in my opinion but I'm a bit biased as that's the one I got. Just superficial differences in what comes in the box and what you pay to get it. I've had time to try out the phone more and I am impressed with the many camera modes. There are burst shot options, sports mode, flash/torch and many more. There is even a Panorama mode that lets you take 3 photos that get stitched together. This means that you could potentially take a 5megapixel photo (they over lap a bit so you wouldn't quite get 6megapixels). There is a lot of other camera settings such as hue, saturation, contrast, brightness and sharpness which gives you more control. The builtin torch light makes night shots easy. You can even opt to take photos from the secondary camara which is used for video calls. The quality is lower but makes it easier to do a self portrait shot (or you could just rotate the screen and use the regular camera). The music through the twin speakers can reach a decent volume - lot louder than the xda 2 but sounds a bit tinny. On the headphones the sound quality is outstanding. I spoke to a Microsoft Developer and he told me that there is a patch coming to allow you to use all/most of the software from older Pocket PC versions that currently struggle or fail completely on Windows Mobile 2005.

Differnces between the Xda and the Qtek. They are pretty much the same phone. The differnces is the software and accessories that come with it. 02 Provide the 02 UserInterface which as you'll see from my last post is a negative. 02 also provide a quality handsfree/headphone set an additional pen, a leather case, Outlook 2002, SPB's GPRS monitor, Active Sync 4 and a 25% discount on any additional accessories bought at the same time. Not sure what the Qtek comes with yet but assume you will get active sync and possibly outlook but doubt you'd get SPB's GPRS monitor or the quality headphones. The Qtek also has a silver finish rather than black from what I heard. Overall there is very little difference. If you are on 02 get the Xda Exec it is heavily subsidised and the black finish is nicer. If getting the phone on another network or offline then it's just a matter of color choice really. Correct me with I'm wrong as my I have the Exec but not had a chance to play with my friend's Qtek.

I got the phone friday and it is amazing. However your experience with the phone will greatly depend on what you do on the initial set up. You have 3 options: Basic, Corporate and Personal. The first time I chose personal and the 02 interface which was sluggish and caused compatibilty issues with a lot of software I tried to install. I reset it and chose basic and installed SPB's interface and wow what a difference. It is really fast and powerful. Can multitask fantastically - With the XDA 2 I struggled to browse the web and listen to music at the same time as the music would stutter. Now I can do both stutter free, watch movies without scaling them down first connect to wifi and use the web at hi speed. At last an XDA that has 3G. I have tried out the video calling and have to say while still a bit gimmicky as so few people have it the quality images and novelty of it makes it an attractive feature. If upgrading from another XDA you'll find that most of your accessories and software will not work with the Exec. The connector is a smaller (and harder to break) connection, the battery is different and the headphones socket at last is standard 3.5mm so you can use ordinary headphones (although the ones that come with it are fantastic). Windows media player 10 is included an is more like the windows media player you are used to on your desktop but unfortunately is only good for playing music. Video is not great as it doesn't play most formats and refuses to show the video stretched to full screen (gets black borders). Installing a free video player I had on my xda 2 resolved that. The webbrowser has improved. Now you can view it widescreen pages look a lot better and there is nearly no horizontal scrolling. There are move view options and varying levels of zoom. In summary the phone is feature packed - Play music, movies, stream tv, email, full internet etc. Has the ultimate connectivity - WiFi, USB, Bluetooth, 3G, GPRS, GSM, InFra Red.

Does the XDA Exec from O2 have WiFi? It does not mention it on the O2 (UK) web site so I emailed them and got the answer "I am sorry that we do not support 802.00b WiFi". Actually, I had not asked if *O2* supported WiFi, just if the *Xda Exec* did. Is this the right answer to the wrong question? Would someone confirm either way.

Malik I have no idea when they have different rating the two are the same. The XDA just jst an imate that has been O2 branded. Dont buy the Imate, you may aswell wait till the end of the month and get O2 to suberdise it for you!

XDA Exec functions in Japan? The XDA Exec is product. I have been an owner of an XDA IIs for a year-it is a truly wonderful gadget. Does this product work in Japan? I would appreciate any advice, I will be leaving the UK in less than 2 weeks and would subsequently like to purchase it before going to Japan.

What I dont understand is that both XDA Exe and the IMate Jas Jar have the "SAME EXACT" specs, so how come XDA has much better result ratings (Design/Features/Performance) than the IMate? I myself am an XDA user, but still worth asking. I guess I just cant wait any longer for this baby to come out, and am sold on the idea to just buy the I-Mate! (Life is tough) Does ANYONE has ANY idea, even roughly, that when is this machine due in market? Any set launch dates? Any feedback will be GREATLY appreciated!

to mackaby oo7,,its true what you say ,,like me i expect true computer functions from these smartphones which isnt true.there just a bigger pda with phone but that said they can do an awful lot more altho when pushed start to fail and crash due mainly to being underpowered..firstly the battery which under strain can fail and proccessor power which when pushed can crash out so they lower the proceesor to put less strain on battery which slows it down causing frustration.It was well documented in a certain phone that people downloading off the internet browser was causing the phone to fade and blank out & the solution was to only do this with the charger unit plugged in as the battery could not take the strain.Just a general comment,, battery issues and slowness of phones is becoming more evident & thats why i take my hat off to the new panasonic range that includes a reasonably powerfull high current batt where as nokia are on the edge with 900m/a batts with 3g smartphone functions and very low operating times.

My yearly upgrade is due next week and I have already registered my wish for this phone at my local O2 shop. I trade on ebay and spend a lot of time in and out of the house in my corporate headquarteres (garage)I am looking to this device to be wifi'd to my home network and always on yahoo mail, thus when an email comes in I can see at a glance if it requires me to accsess Outlook on the PC in the house.

Hope O2 this time produce a really stable phone. So far my experience with Xphone is bad. In GSM coverage aspect, Xphone always have problem finding network and calls will be drop dued to software/ battery. Other features are pretty good. Most of us, include me are Microsoft users, browsing/ navigation experience just superb!

I'm very much looking forward to buying this device, but everyone seriously considering this should not be deluded into believing that it can replace a laptop! It is however a brilliant dat/communcations device with grat multimedia capabilty. Check out xda developers forum under 'Universal' (HTC-manufacturer) to really get some hands on feedback from people who have actually bought it! There are better pocket pc's out there, like dells Axim X50v, with a dedicated graphics accelorator. There are more portable 3G phones out there that perform excellently and there will soon be many devices out there with WM 5.0 installed as standard. My point being, this is not the best device for any one purpose, but it does seem to be the first device that's incorporated many already established technologies and thus gets my vote. But beware, don't expect too much from a pocket pc/phone with few bells and whistles. After all, is it evn upgradeable like a real PC? No! Therefore, in a few months to a year, new technologies will blow this baby out of the water. If you will not be requiring more than it has to offer in the near future - say 1.5 years, this 'Dreammachine' is for you, otherwise consider how much this will set you back, just to be replaced by other emrging technologies. All said and done, if like me, you live in the moment...buy one and enjoy, whilst it's hot! PPC/Phone enthusiast

Well what can i say...this has to be the most amazing device to date. VGA screen,windows mobile 5.0,stereo speakers,3G.. the list is endless. Bill gates demonstrated this device in May and the crowd went wild.. This device has to been designwd to replace your laptop ,O2 have done a very good job of their new o2 active service. I have seen this new device and its extremly impressive ,i promise you this machine will give you some serious attention. Watching movies and playing music/games experience is lifted to the next level.
