Motorola A840 - User Reviews

  • this has gps

  • Hi! I have the V710 and i was just wondering if this phone is the same thing and if it has the same features?

  • damn its a good fone its for just 40$ with one year warranty

  • i had this phone for about a year. as far as switching countries and stuff its great and does this automatically YOU DO NOT NEED TO SWITCH ANYTHING YOURSELF. but it breaks every month and the battery sucks!this goes for all the motorola phones! I used Motorolla since 1995 but i hav had enough the design is good but the battery once again is horrible. Because of the breaking problems my phone company(pelephone in israel) no longer supplies insurance on this phone because they do not want to deal with A840 anymore and the refuse to sell it too.

  • Here in Brazil it has no video playback or video recording features enabled, it is a shame !!!

  • i think it`s just a great gadget! but the battery`s lifetime should be much longer

  • It's a great phone just came back from Europe (GSM mode) and used it there came back to USA, change the network in one click of the menu back to (CDMA)and was using back home. You only use Verizon in in the US, just one account. They have roaming agreements in most other countries. Roaming is not cheap but it is useful to have one number world wide.

  • I have this phone and when i bought it, it was supposed to have ceratin functions that never ended up working..it was supposed to hve some kind of tracking system, that it doesn't have,

  • I have motorola A840 and I need your help please. GSM mode is locked in my mobile but CDMA is active. I need to active the GSM mode urgently. Can anybody help me in this issue?

  • No BLUETOOTH! No Web Browser! PIX have to be stored to the card, and then moved elsewhere. But that's what you get, for having a world phone. CDMA Web Browsers only work with the provider the phone is made for. It uses CDMA primarily. Only has European GSM frequencies. In North America, will only work with a CDMA Cellular Provider. Reception, is GREAT!

  • this is the worst phone i have ever bought.the minute i saw it i knew i had to get it.but after i used it for three days it was all disappointments. am never trusting motorolla with anything.

  • I have read comments on this phone but i was wondering if it is worth getting

  • Hi, I have the V710 and I want to know if the Motorola A840 it's the same thing

  • This phone is brilliant..i have had it for ages and there id nothing wrong with it! if you are looking for a good phone ill advise u to get this one!

  • How do you play mp3s?

  • am tryin to get a really good motorola phone can anyone advise me with one of the latest models?

  • This is a great phone

  • Am advised from Telstra shop toowoomba today that phone has been withdrawn. no date available as to when it will be re-released or what its problems are. Any one with any clues. Motorolla were of little help

  • This phone is avaiable in australia, went to crazy johns at broadbeach gold coast very helpful, it is available on both gsm/cdma, and is very simple to switch modes (dont have to turn phon off or anything!!!!) - telstra do it on a 2in1 call solution package, making it affordable with a cdma and gsm service. No b/tooth or ir is disappointing

  • Can now get this on Telstra network in Australia. But I would try EBAY first - much cheaper !!!

  • hello-can anybody help me?i own an moto v710 and it's an cdma phone!can i use it like a gsm?..anybody want's it:)???

  • I wish to set phone to silent at times but allow standard ring for 2 certain numbers, with nokia this is simple , choose particular profile. please advise best way to do this with motorola A840

  • You do not need 2 accounts to use this phone. The phone works on the CDMA in the US, and switches over automatically to GMS outside of the USA. You can buy it on Verizon Wireless if you go to the international phone page of their website. The explain how everything works. The users guide is available at motorola.com.

  • I just got this yesterday , the camera does not work inside at all, But outside the quality is good...I'm Taking it back for a refund

  • can somone give link or email me pictures taken by the moto840 ? tnx :)

  • Just tried to setup up one of these phones for gsm. All menu options are locked out for GSM. No MMS or GPRS. Pretty crappy for a world phone. 4 thumbs down.

  • we have only just got this phone here in oz and i agree with L.A Guy on some things but i do believe you can use these handsets on both GSM and CDMA networks but you must have 2 seperate accounts to do this which could be quite expensive....

  • motorola a840 seems to be excellent. i woiuld highly appreciate receiving user uide in english for it thanks in advance g. maktari

  • It's a great apparatus, but I prefere with bluetooth or infrared. This apparatus with this options will be perfect! Thanks!

  • the A840 is available at Verizon Wireless

  • I CANNOT believe Motorola would built this phone with no bluetooth!

  • Does any one know if Motorola A840 is available in United states? If yes, where can i buy one? If no when will it be available in United States?

  • please do you know where i can buy one i need some to resell in kenya and am looking for vendors in asia sms me 254722520083

  • Just wondering if I can buy GSM SIM (pre-paid) in Europe and use the chip in A860. Anyone knows?

  • Can anyone recommend a model which works in Korea with a German D2 sim card?

  • The 1.2 megapixel camera feature is totally useless, since the phone doesn't have BT or InfraRed and the USB cable costs about 60$. For comparision, Nokia provides USB cable for free with the new phone

  • If you go to the motorola website and look at the page for this phone, it says nothing about a video capture/playback feature... Also, the megapixel is 1.2, not 1.3. The info above is not completely accurate. For a more thorough overview, I suggest checking the full feature spec's at hellmoto.

  • There is a lot of confusion with this phone. It is a CDMA phone for the U.S. (Verizon specifically). The GSM side is for International use (outside U.S.). You cannot use both CDMA/GSM at the same time. It will NOT work with T-Mobile, Cingular/AT&T, or any other GSM provider. Vodafone provides the International GSM coverage. The phone is CDMA primarily, and GSM secondary. It was made specifically for U.S. CDMA providers. It is NOT the V710. It looks almost identical, though. It is 800(850)/1900 mhz for U.S. and 900/1800 for everywhere else. It is currently only available to Business clients of Verizon. There has been no public release as of yet. Verizon also carries the Samsung SCH-A790, which is also a CDMA/GSM Global phone. Hope this info helps.

  • The phone is already available on Motorola's website.

  • Phone has been released in US to Verizon but don't see it yet on their web site.

  • it just benn released in ISRAEL. u can buy it only from the service provider in 15$x36

  • Does anyone know if this phone will ever be released and possible eta?

  • hi can anybody tell me if me t-mobile chip is compatible with this phone? how can i get this phone i really like it and whats the price of the phone?ill be waiting for an answer. thanxxxxxx

  • Can someone please inform me about where to purchase this phone because it is not offered in the U.S. and I need a phone that can work in the U.S. as well as overseas. Verizon only offers one samsung phone and it is too expensive for what you are getting on it for features. Thank you SOOOO much.

  • No it won't work on GSM networks in N.A. since it's only 900/1800 GSM (N.A. uses 850/1900). Verizon carries this phone for international roaming capibilities.

  • I'm with T-Mobile and i'm looking for a nice phone but i don't know if this one is going to work with the Sim Card that i have. Can anyone please help me answear this? Thanx

  • Hi, i'm testing this cell phone in Brazil, but i need to know what kind of SC is used. I have the tradicional SC.Do i need a slim card to use with A840?

  • It's a Cool phone works in gsm n cdma networks, in BRASIL works very good! :)

  • Yes, u can ust the phone in BRAZIL since TIM ia a GSM 1800 network

  • i would like to know if...i can buy the A840 and use it in Brazil. ( Here we have VIVO - CDMA - and TIM - GSM - networks)

  • hello does anyone know whether the motorola a860 (chinese version) can display tradition chinese lang. mp3 file name properly, although it's a english and simplified chinese phone only. thank-you

  • Is the sound quality good when playing mp3?

  • too expensive no fm radio no infrared port not tri band

  • askar, r u sure that this phone does not have built in bluetooth? thanks

  • Nice fone but i feel that the V3 is better

  • Hello, I have heard about the phone and quite honestly i like it.But i sell phones too,so i'll like to know if u can sell me about two dozens of this phone(a840),kindly respond asap

  • hey what's the big difference between this phone and V635? lOL?

  • Does the phone recieves calls from both networks or it recieves CDMA calls while in CDMA mode and does not recieve GSM calls , and vice versa ?. Please tell me, I holding to phones CDMA and GSM for recieving calls for both numbers !

  • Have bought A860 in China, in Scanghai electronics store, sim free for 530 USD Using it for one month. Using it in Kazakhstan (I have two subscriptions - CDMA 2000 and GSM 900). Although claimed dual band actually is tri-band (supports GSM 900). Has two slots and can work with two RUIMs, two SIMs, one RUIM and one SIM in any combination. Switches from GSM to CDMA very fast (5 second), particularily slowly from CDMA to GSM (20 seconds) Chineese version comes with 30 MB mini SD card (with USD adapter), phone connestion software with phone-USB cable and spare battery, no bluetooth or IRDA (I'm upset). SMS is working fine both in GSM and CDMA. A big hassle (still not solved)to make WAP (both for CDMA and GSM operators) and GPRS running. Has a useless Cnina Unicon U-Magic/U-info menu for data services, couldn't pass through to configure data services with local operators. Battery is more or less OK, lasts two days in normale usage condition (several calls (20-30 minutes) per day). Camera works badly in dark conditions thanks god there is a flash (LED). Menus and interface is better than in older motorolas, but still far behind from beloved SE 630. The same time has bought LG W800 world phone (the same Qualcomm chip based dual standard tri-band product from China Unicom)- much more nice thing, user friendly interface and better polyphony, twenty bucks cheaper, doesnt have mini SD card. Have seen Samsung SCH-W109 - ugly device.

  • I like the phone but I wonder when it will be out for me to buy. Please e-mail me when it is out.Thank You.

  • where can i get this phoneeeeeeeee, please tell me im begging if u have it sell it too me pleaseeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee email me do something please respond where can i get this phoneeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee

  • hey Justin it's already out in the states. just keep checking the motorola website! they sell it online too!! but you have to be quick coz they are always sold out!

  • to the guy that said Motorola sucks now. Do you know when this phone will be out?

  • Here is the problems boys and girls. Motorola as well as many other manufacturers used to, I stress used to, make good phones. Unfortunately, the Startac was about the end for Motorola. The Chinese made junk they have now doesn't compare to the PHONE ABILITY of the old Analog DPC phones or even the old "Banana Phone". The cell phone demand, much like everything else, has gone consumer rather than prosumer, or even Business. They are making their phones for $6.00 each so they can sell 20 million of them to every little boy and girl in Junior High and above. Their marketing is simple, sell 20 million $50 phones or sell 1 million $300 PHONES. The phones are no longer phones, they are POS cameras, they have 5000 ringtones, they have games, color screens, etc., what they don't have is a good RF unit, the part that actually makes and receives phone calls, you know, what they were supposed to do in the first place. I recently turned off my V60P and V60S, and bought a digital Star Tac on Ebay. Last of the good motorolas, and it is very doubtful that the A840 will be any better. It is just a 710 with GSM, an d we all know what a prize those were/are!

  • When will this available for purchase anyplace? Can you have a number on Verizon and then an additional number on the SIM for when in Europe so airtime charges aren't so expensive?

  • I do like this phone says second half of 2004, can i wait that long??/

  • I think that this phone is the best mobile phone ever made. If only i had the funds to purchase the phone, i would be estatic.

  • When will this phone be in Singapore? and how much ? tanks!

  • ask wat i know, the Motorola A840 is no one-trick pony. It also comes with a 1.2 megapixel camera with a short-range flash and digital zoom, a respectable 176x220 pixel main display, Bluetooth, removable Tri-Flash memory, MP3 and video playback, advanced voice dialling, enhanced PIM (personal information management) support plus a whole range of other goodies that you expect with a high-end phone, but i suspect that the A840 is going to be fairly expensive, making a market pitch to businesses and worldwide travellers. i estimate that it will be around 600/400/$700 at launch if bought without a contract,For travellers to the US and Canada, plus Southern and Eastern Asia, the inclusion of CDMA means that there will be widespread roaming access to mobile networks. This is useful particularly in the US where GSM access is patchy.

  • i will need to have any of nthis phone

  • I need information hp motorola series A840 and counter at yogyakarta, indonesia ? Thank's.

  • Matei, if u've got 2 of deez same phones u must know if it has bluetooth and video. can can u tell us?

  • man this fone is hot anyone know when its coming back post it or email me

  • waht is the talk time? i hope it is more then 10 hrs. other wise forget it

  • Motorola Kicks ass!

  • How much is this phone?

  • ppl ppl, this phone can only work (gsm-wise) in the asia's NOT in america. you will only be able to use this phone in america IF AND ONLY IF you are on a CDMA network. this is good if you think about it at first, however if you think about it more, you will realize that this phone sort of takes out both of the technologies and blurrs it into one, toning down the two technolgoies into one. personally, id say that if moto cant make a phone can improve on the two technologies,,,why not focus on one (gsm or cdma) and make it better?

  • please give me for price of motorola a840 information

  • can recording a video?? thankx

  • motorola phones looks very alienlike and their design is very 'original' but i like it, the functions and all except that motorola's battery life is not that long!!! pls moto, improve ur batt life and i did follow the instruction to charge the batt 4 8hrs bfre use de 1st time!!!

  • i like this phone when is it coming out

  • I dont know what is wrong with you Guys but this mobile sucks like all the Motorola's , 1st of all it is not made in Japan or Finland which means it sucks and 2nd of all there is the NO.1 mobile in this world SonyEricsson and no.2 Nokia so why you guys are intersted in this Crap??? :-) baha

  • what kind of colour screen does this phone have? 256k or 65k?

  • I'm betting that US service providers will not share such enthusiasm over a dual network phone (GSM / CDMA). Most likley it will be locked to one or the other technology. To roam internationally you still need a sim and roaming agreement between carriers. Japan PCD is another story. Good luck if you home system is IS95. This one will be short lived.

  • This can not be the A840? this must be the V840 this is the A840

  • This phone is for Americas, not Japan

  • Looks nice...very...star trekkie. When will it be on the Market? I think it would look More Nicer when there is no antenna.

  • cdma and gsm ... mmmhh it seems that A840 works in europe and japan too... so coool man!!

  • Yep Yep Yep this is the one to bring moto back to the top all they need to do it get this phone onto the market by june!

  • Looking good. Just need some dimensions on it.

  • All moto phones look like gadgets from Star Trek Voyager, especially the clam shells. Better than Samsung and SE clamshelles.
