O2 XDA Orbit - User Reviews

  • When I posted about finding my old Xda Orbit in the attic after 14 years of it being back in it's box,I was just chuffed to find it still worked. NOW,today, four months later-I'm still using it on a daily basis....much to the amusement of the 'latest, greatest' technology freaks around me. They ALL want to look at it,try it,even send themselves texts to their own 'phones on it using the stylus. Ok,I'll admit my eyes aren't as pinpoint as they were 14 years ago and i now wear glasses to use it...but it's SUCH an amazing little thing, that the squinting a bit to send texts really IS worth it. The camera is truly amazing...a mere 2mp...yet as clear as photos taken with my iphone. It still works faultlessly, still using it's original battery,an 8gb SD card takes the strain nicely...and it connects to wifi without any hassle-which I find astounding, considering the advances in wifi since this was made. The W6 works without complaint, the Bluetooth has no problems. The ONLY thing I'm careful about is water...it's not-but never claimed to be-waterproof. Meh;a small concern, for such a truly amazing item.

  • I found my 1996 Orbit when looking for old tapes in the attic. Brought it downstairs, charged it,didn't expect it to work...4 hours later it's running like a tap! NO stuttering,no delays, not even requiring updates [not that there'd be may for an Orbit]...and it's working as well today as it did when first bought, which was in Finland in 1996....let's see you beat THAT,Apple! Y'know;I'm going to keep this little jem-it's like finding a pebble on the beach and realising it's actually an emerald! My Orbit is doing as well as it always did-but after 14 years in the attic!

  • You can download windows 6 from the O2 site. Call the helpdesk may be easiest way to find rather than searching. SAVE ALL DATA to memory card and remove card. Or save to pc, but all settings and saved bits will be cleared during the process. the download comes with a file that does the upgrade. I did it a few months back and everything works fine. I had to re-do my gps/address book/other stuff, but not a big deal as the upgrade is supported by O2. One thing that changed was I no longer had the battery icon for percent charged, but like all ms updates it was just moved somewhere else. Cheers eddacker

  • I have this phone and I live in sierra leone and want to be using my GPS when I go out hunting and fishing, So how can I download the sofware for my phone..

  • Re: question list: 1. How is the overall performence? Overall performance is excellent - I had no problems: phone performance unaffected whilst using Co-Pilot SATNAV. 2. Does it hang? New version is a vast improvement on previous version of the ROM which frustratingly DID 'hang' and was worse than no phone at all. 3. Picture qulity? Sufficient; loses something when compared with 5Mb of Nokia N95 etc. but good enough to see what you are looking at on PC screen or in printed document. As a device for going to site, logging data (including photos), uploading to server and preparing and emailing reports I haven't foud anything capable of eating the XDA series. 4. Sound quality in handsfree and speaker? Again - 'adequate'. The XDA is not an iPOD, neither does it pretend to be one. Media player will play store mp3s and the speaker and microphone are sufficient to carry out conversations while driving -although there is a little vibro distortion if turned to full volume. 5. Batery life? Battery life is about 6 hours full use of SATNAV / camera (30 or so pictures) / internet / phone, but will last two days of moderate non-SATNAV use, making and taking calls, txts, etc. 6. Use of office application? EXCELLENT! One of the few devices where you can CREATE and EDIT Word and Excel documents in addition to viewng them. Powerpoint and Acrobat also installed but I haven't had much success viewing emailed attachments - probaly ecause I insist on using Yahoo rather than Outlook. BTW, Yahoo Go is an astonishingly good add-on. I've also added Vpainter and SpoonNotes for colour sketching and there is a CAD program I've downloaded and played with. 7. Anything else u thik important. The XDA will take stacks of 3rd party software without complaint, provided you install to a large memory card. I'm just starting to run into trouble after two years of use ecause I'm encountering the limitations of the on board memory. Points against? Well, answering incoming calls can be a pain without firing up Co-Pilot (I've now swapped button usage) and with high memory use dialling and writing txt can take seemingly forever. The onscreen keyoard is a ind, but provided you have otyh hands free and god eyesight it gets the jo bdone exceedingly well. I've since installed iDialler in an attempt to dial and txt with finger or thumb. Mixed results, there. Handwriting recognition is good if you put in the practice and have it set up right, otherwise don't bother. This is a phone for work; a jeep, not a pimpmobile -and as such it is almost perfect.

  • Its a great PDA.

  • Can it have skype loaded on this and has anyone tried using the skype number for incoming and outgoing calls, both in wlan and gsma date usage

  • take out ur memory card n try to boot ... then flash the device (clear storage )n reinstall

  • Maximum memory?

  • Im going to get 1 after 3 days. Can any one answer the following questions? 1. How is the overall performence? 2. Does it hang? 3. Picture qulity? 4. Sound quality in handsfree and speaker? 5. Batery life? 6. Use of office application? 7. Anything else u thik important. Thank U.

My Business partner upgraded his to WM6 many months ago, and he is also 100% satisfied with his phone. I would happily have another one to replace this one with, when the time comes to change.

I have reset the phone, removed the battery changed all three alarm times but to no avail. Also sometimes when dialing the person on the other side answers but I does hear a dialling tone or the persons voice until I have phoned a 2nd time. Otherwise a great phone Any ideas?

  • I've had this xda for abour 4 months now, and i am very impressed with the functions it has for what i need. I needed a phone with an organiser and satnav. This syncs up with my laptop, along with being on O2 network, never drops calls and the battery life is just great. Only funny is the thumbwheel on the front, Thats a but hard to get around. But scores a 7/10 in my books.

  • O2 xda orbit is nice phone. I see more than phone but i like o2 xda orbit phone beause it is window phone .

  • what a excellent pda design 10/10 feature 10/10 performance 10/10

  • Those whining about the lack of 3g should just invest in the next model up the Orbit II as it has 3G support. Personally I'm all for these slightly limited versions of expensive phones as it means we get a bunch of excellent features without all the expense of the 'posers' model.

  • I've just bought this handset and initially was very happy with it. My last phone was the SPV M600 on orange which is virtually the same device only without GPS and the FM Radio. I bought the handset brand new online and was happy to find that it was unlocked as standard so could pop my Orange sim card in without any problems. HOWEVER the reception is pretty terrible. There's no problems if I go outside, but any time I step into a building the reception either dips out completely or is very very weak. Has anyone heard of similar problems?

  • I've had it between diff manufacturers yeah. They don't appear to be always compatable. If blue tooth is your only option then you could buy a dongle and plug it to your pc and transfer them to that then back off to the Orbit. Best way is to obviously use a data cable to get the info off your old phone, but I assume you dont have that?

  • Have had phone for 2 weeks now and been on phone to O2 four times, I cannot get phone to accept Bluetooth files it detects other devices I have the beam switched on and went thriugh settings with O2 but my nokia 6300 trys to send then says sending failed has onyone experienced this problem that can give me the easy solution Thanks Trevor

  • Can someone Please tell me how to install Tom Tom 5/6 on an unlocked orbit XDA? whst files do i need? Thanks

  • can someone tell me what nodata is?

  • Does the new Orbit 2 phone have an output port that can be connected to a TV or Music Centre. I have just bought a Nokia N95 8Gb and love the storeage capacity, the camera and the fact that you can connect straight to the TV to show photos or video recordings. Problem is I really miss the Touch Screen hence the reason for looking at the Orbit 2 (I had the original Orbit and it was a good phone) Thanks for any help

  • Hi orbituk, I have been using the Orbit 2 since it was launched. Have been using Tomtom 6 on it and never had any problems. make sure you are regularly updating QuickGPS(every 2 days)this will ensure the GPS device picks up the satellites quickly. Also make sure your GPS is set to Com Port 4. If you need to know how to do this please ask and I will oblige. Should work fine after you have done the above. Absolutely love this pda. Can't wait o get the Orbit2 next month.

  • I too have the problem with downloading the "Getting Started" software and also with the battery getting hot, eventually I have to turn it off and restart it, Any ideas?

  • i hv been using orbit since it came into the market ....to be really honest ...this is a hell of palm....just loved it ....but only thing that makes me sad is i am tired of installing tomtom in my orbit and not a single one worked properly ....but recently installed tomtom 6 which works properly but then again having problem in getting gps signal...since i have installed the TT6 ...the software starts properly and after putting postcode it keep searching for gps signal and gives a msg like ' searching for valid gps signal ' ....even after 10/15 minutes no positive sign ....did anyone face this kinda problem ...any solution ?!! please let me know ....it would be a gr8 help ....

  • I have upgraded the ROM from Wm5 to WM6. is there any way to revert it back to WM 5

  • alltogether 3 orbit are around me.all of them having problem like no vibration, backlite switch off automatically, satnav starts itself, phone switch off automatically.Windows frozen very often. It would be better with Safari.I think orbit is a cool phone, but after 6 months start become annoying .

  • The Adobe startup software glitch is a worrying thing. It has happened to my friend and we tried installing the new version of the flash player on his pc to fix it. Its completely useless as the installation goes through but the CD does not play. The CD that came with the old WM 5 runs on his computer but does not synch as he has got WM6 on his phone. So I'm guessing it is a compatibility problem with the software on the CD that came with Orbits with WM6 on it. I have WM5 and the CD that came with it and my phone synchs fine. It is really annoying and I'm sure O2 has a solution to this problem!!

  • In reply to the mail about problems installing the staret up software ie saying Adobe Shockwave is corrupt. I too am having the same problem, anyone know what to do?.

  • hy, i have just bought an xda orbit and i am wondering if its possible to downgrade to windows 5.0? unable to access a web page on windows 6.0..any help would be great!

  • sadly i had to have my original phone replaced as it had problem with the software, and battery got hot at same time, cool phone though and 2nd unit still reliable no problem on navigation for me

  • I have had this phone for 8-9 months now. When it does work it's very good and having the GPS built in is great. Co-Pilot is not as good as Tom Tom software but ok. Size is good and practical for a Windows Mobile devise. I have had to replace it once due to a massive system crash and the one I have now throws a woddler at least once a week. But better than older XDA's

  • I have had three in the last month and had to send them all back. Great phone realy liked it but there seems to a problem with the software, I had to use two outgoing providers for email one for wifi and one for gprs. Messenger kept on freezing and I had to reset the phone everytime it was used or you could not add or delete conntacts. Apart from that all worked well.

  • Has anyone had any problems loading the CD rom (Getting Started Disc) onto PC/Laptop. Message comes up ststing my installed ADOBE shockwave is corrupt and points to the ADOBE wedsite. Have uninstalled and reinstalled Shockwave 10.1 from Adobe wedsite but CD rom still states that this is corrupt!!! Any help be appreciated!

  • Hey guys, I love this phone. I've been using it from February '07. I just want to upgrade it to the new software version but I'm worried that it will not synch with the computer since the Activesynch software on the PC is for the old software version. Am I right ?

  • Orbit brilliant. Only supports up to 2gb micro SD and no SDHC

  • could someone please tell me whether xda orbit support 4 gb micro sd memory card.Response is needed from someone who tried themself.

  • Is it true to work with MicroSDHC? Actually, I donwnloaded ROM image(WM6) from xda.orbit.co.uk and upgraded my PDA with it one month ago. As a result, my PDA has the following ROM version. IPL 3.04.0001 SPL 3.04.0000 GSM 02.67.90 OS 3.4.0.0 But, WM6 is too slow to run 'Wisbar Advanced 4', Pocket Plus, PocketBreeze, Worldmate and so on. Moreover, it doesn't work with MicroSDHC. Could you do me a favor to tell the version of your ROM image which support SDHC?

  • well i have had this phone for a long while, and couldnt wait for the rom for windows mobile to be relase and afew weeks ago 02 finaly release, i am sooooooooo happy now.......... i updated the rom and now the phone is 100% stable with vista also tried the 4gb card from my brother phone and no issue whats so ever picked it up straight away........... so now i can finaly dual boot my navigation prgrams, am running tomtom 6 with full europe and us maps and copilot with uk and western europe maps, and still have around 1.7gb space left for music and videos, i'd advice on a good compressing dvd ripper if you going to play movies on ur orbit.......

  • Hi i have ahd this phone for a few months love it great phone but looking for a memory card now. I know 2gb works but can also buy 4gb cards would they work also?

  • can anyone tell me how to install the English language pack for O2 XDA Orbit?

  • I've had my orbit for almost 12 months now and its been great. The only thing which lets this phone down in my opinion is the camera - it's rubbish(2Mp??!, no flash) I have never had any problems with my orbit and it has never even crashed once (unlike some other XDA models i've had!) I used to have a TOMTOM satnav, but since i had this phone i've had no use for it - copilot satnav saftware is faultless. I now have a hard decision of choosing an 'upgrade'.

  • Traffic Message Channel (TMC) receiver is not in build on Orbit. You will have to use GPRS only, there is no 3G on it as well

  • does the tomtom software talk to you or is it simply a visual thing?

  • it's a wonderfull cel.fone but plz.if someone could help me i read the book about the internet sharing i do as they said but it dosn't work.i can't lunch outlook on my p.c eventho my cel.declare that it's connected.thanks a lot

  • well as most people has already said alot. this phone is simply the best. I was trying to upgrade my software and website didnt recognise my S/N as valid one. Is there anyone who got any idea what could be wrong? please let me know as I cannot wait to get MW 6 on this beauty. thanking in anticipation and best regards. [email protected]

  • yes you can use Tom tom but O2 recomend there software I have tom tom on mine and have upgraded to microsoft 6

  • hey i just got xda orbit with o2.and i want to use voip in it. is there any one can help me please??

  • I'm seriously considering getting this phone. Can anyone tell me if it now comes with TOM TOM as standard as the specs on this website says Tom Tom Navigator 6 but other people say they have had to go out and buy Tom Tom software? Also, does anyone know any sites that offer good deals on this via a monthly contract? Thanks...

  • Can somebody help me? how do I connect orbit to Motorola bluetooth stereo headset HT820? and how do u disable password that is asked everytime u turn on your devices? Thank u very much

  • I just wondering does XDA Orbit has the built in Traffic Message Channel (TMC) receiver? I am using Tom Tom and don't know if without using GPRS connection traffic jam news will reach my PDA? anyone knows? thanks for answers!

  • I have had this phone about two months now and I am really pleased with it. I have had two or 3 earlier XDAs which have been fine but I got fed up of them not being very pocketable so I went for an Orion. This was again OK but it was too small and I missed the touch screen. So I went for th eOrbit which was a nice size, pocketable but still a big enough screen. I use it mainly for diary and contacts so in this respect it is as good as all the other XDAs I have had. I got the CoPilot with it but found this was poor compared to the TomTom I had used previously. I bought the TomTom software and it has worked perfectly. As a regular XDA user this is the best of the bunch and I particularly like the TomTom satnav capability.

  • Can anyone tell me if you can download and use Skype on the XDA ORbit with WM5.0 Pocket PC? If so how do I do it? Thanks!!!!

  • Hi, Can someone tell me, if there is a way to download CoPilot Live 6 free of charge?? ~Many thanks~

  • Hi. TO KS. Contact me at 0944 7763113535 UK so I can help you on this matter. It is much better to talk you through this to email. I will try to do it this way then. Open messages and then go to Menu, then Options. Tap and hold on Hotmail and you will see DELETE option. Tap on that and it will be deleted. You can update to WM by going on the O2 Website and go to the login area on the left .If you didnt register, do it and they will help you even faster. Keep in mind to active synch your Orbit and go into the Windows file of the device and copy your ring tones to the desktop of your pc. Then do a soft reset. Remove the storage card before you do the upgrade, you could loose info on it. It will takes about 25 minutes to do the upgrade and you must also remember to make a back up of your contacts to the pc or laptop. After you done the update and set it up to your specifications, time and region, do a soft reset. Put back the memory card and do a soft reset. Then you active synch again. Go to explore the device and then into the Windows folder, copy the ring tones into the folder you have done on the desktop. Your ring tones can then be selected what you have before. Let me know how you get on with it. Henning Ras

  • hi im thinking 2 buy dis phone can any1 tell me hows its sound clearity is it loud or like other o2 fones?

  • Hi, I have upgraded to WM6 as well and I experienced some improvements - better speed and agility and no sd-card problems so far. It also solves the Vista compatibility issue after upgrading ActiveSync. As opposed to Copilot 5, everybody fancies Tom-Tom; why? Can anybody recommend the cheapest and convenient way to download/upgrade SatNav/GPS maps (for Copilot and/or TomTom) for the entire EU and SE Europe (i.e. ex-Yugoslavian coutries, Albania)? Does Copilot allow for another mapped area to be used along with the default UK&Ireland one (they specify in the manual that only one area can be used)? How about Tom Tom, does it have any similar issues? 10x in advance for your answers. PS The layout of the screen can be changed whenever one choses. I believe that trackballs and wheels degree of looseness depends heavily on the usage.

  • Can any one please advice me how to organize the contacts in orbit. The problem is, if i copy contacts from the sim directory, in the contact page all the sim card and mobile contact shows. And one name showing twice. But i dont want to see the sim contact. i want to see only phone contact. Can any one please advice me how do i do that? you can email me. Thanks

  • i like my phone I'v had it almost a year with no probs, got loads of extra software wanting a 4GB mini sd, the last couple of days I had a problem with it, does anyone know how to do a hard reset on it, i have a message saying there is a problen with the file 'Monitor'. i took out the SDcard to see if there was a prob with that, but it still won't work properly. Please Help Anyone!!!!!

  • I have the Orbit since December last year.So far I had not much trouble with it.The only thing that happended ws when I insert the MSD it "ignored" and read it in the file explorer for Memory 2. After I upgrade to the WMy6,the graphics on Solitare is so apaling ,they look like pieces of paper and not the PC version. Battery life is better now, though I try not to run many programs at the same time. I download orb form www.orb.com onto my laptop and use the Orbit for a Internet TV or Radio, streaming it to the Orbit. I bought a second hand Orbit in London for my nephew in South Africa,he even use it for a modem to do internet. On skype it is good, but expect to have bit of lag because of the slow processor. A major improvement on the WM6 is that the Office docs are in ONE folder in the start Menu and you do not have to go to programs every time to open word or Spreadsheet. Pros on WM 6 for me is the phone section: when you go back on call history, tap on a previous caller and his whole call histoy comes up and even the time.Should you tap on his time,it will ring his number again. If you have to edit a major MS file on your Orbit, install My Mobiler from the internet and you can copy and drag between your Orbit and pc/laptop. You can open the file via Active Synch and type on the screen of the laptop/pc and it will be directly on the Orbit. You can even copy and paste directly from the PC/laptop to the screen of the Orbit's word or spreadsheet file. You cannot edit Presentations on it but youcan drag a presentation to the Orbit via Active Synch. Since I install My Mobiler on it,I seldome type docs on the Orbit when connected to my laptop. In my Start Menu are the following Programs:File Explorer,Internet Explorer,Midlet Manager,Mobipocket Reader and Windows media Player. In the Midlet manager,I have MXIT ,free txt's when you use the wireless network at home adn then also my Gmail.I used to have Fring to ornaganise my skype and MSN,but since th eWM6,it doesn't want to work. I download Yahoo Go,it is like the Blackberry, fast direct internet and surfing is quite informational with it. I back up every evening to make sure I don't loose any important Numbers and data. TomTom6 navigator runs smoothly on it and seldome get trouble with it,maybe once every two months. The camera takes reasonable shots, but I use the software onit to crop and email them dierctly on the Orbit.I rather use my CANON EOS 30D to take quality shots than the Orbit. The other programs I use on the Orbit are ,Tube 2,E-sword,Engineering calculator and then Lextionary Dictionary. If or must I say when they bring out a better model for Orbit, can they please make a model with larger internal memory like 4gig,with a RAM 256 and 624Mhz Processor, including a mini usb VGA out for power point presentations. This be then for me the ULTIMATE PDA PHONE. Other wise, this phone rocks!!! [email protected]

  • i know its pushing it, seeing as o2 quote only recognising a 2gb... but does the 6gb card work? now that would be simply beautiful if it did...

  • Can anyone help me please? I did the ROM upgrade yesterday and all has worked okay. But I have tried to download my emails from hotmail via Widows Live and it keeps on coming up with an error "Failed to synchronize the folder list, the server did not respond". I have tried it on more than one occasion but the same response all the time. Now I know my internet connection works as I am able to go onto messenger, abit confused !!!

  • I have this phone for over 6 months and I can say that it is infact the best phone in the market at present. So good it is that is is far better than the much acclaimed I-Phone. Well, for those complaining about this or that on this phone, I think you should read this.... The Processor - The processor is fast enough for you to have a good battery life. There is usually a trade-off with battery life for fast processors. Avoid running too many applications all at once and that will resolve the processing speed problem. Micro SD Slot - The position of the micro sd card is excellent. Why do you need to swap memory cards anyway when you can transfer files seemlessly via bluetooth, USB and wi-fi? Just get a 4GB memory card and forget it in there! It basically becomes your own super ipod. I have a 2G and have managed to compress over 1000 song at 64 bits. You would notice any difference at this bit rate and that at 192. trust me. Keyboard - You do not require an external keyboard for this device. There is a handwriting recognition software and that works very well. The external keyboards are useless anyway. If you are thinking of getting a phone, get yourself this phone and you wont regret it. I had to get my sister a phone of recent and couldn't afford to waste money on the rest of the phones out there. Because that is what they are - "a waste of money". They just have a few unique features here and there, a nice flashy design but they go into oblivion after a year of their release. I couldn't take my loyalty away from the XDA's so I bought her an xda like mine and she will agree with me its worth every penny. This phone is expensive and has remained expensive ever since its release in september last year. Other phones fall drastically in price after a few months of their release. That is how you know solid a phone is... Thanks.

  • Paul u have ben unlucky to coincidentally get 3 faulty pieces. in my opinion its, hands down, the best device on the market. forget your nokias and your sony ericssons, this is way ahead of all those. its got everything

  • The worst piece of technology i have ever seen. O2 should not be selling pocket pcs because they cannot make them. xda orbit: I have had 3 of these replaced and one xda mini s and none work as advertised. i have now given up. all 3 xda orbits ceased to work after switching off. could not boot up. only solution: restore to factory settings and lose all phone numbers etc which take hours to reload one at a time unless you use a pc to load them up. not to mention all the settings and preferences you have selected are then lost. a complete time waster. note that this happens EVERY time xda orbit is switched off so dont let the battery run low whatever you do. xda mini s: alarms and reminders do not work. the only time that the alarm works is when you switch the phone on - it then continually sounds the alarm for at least 15 minutes while it tries to work out what it is supposed to be doing. this happens EVERY time you switch the phone off and then turn it on. intenet does completely work on either phone

  • ROM Uprgrade now available from O2. It's FREE! Upgrade to Windows Mobile 6

  • It is very good phone but it has got very delicate power socket. The socket got damaged within a week from purchase. hence the phone is not usable. It is not possible to replace the socket till so far in India. One drawback, FM cannot be heard unless u connect the ear phone as it is used as antenna. You cannot listen the FM on speaker phone. The phone has gone under repair in first week only and cant be repaired in India!!!

  • its a nice phone or pocket pc..really nice..has plenty of softwares free avail on net..simply super....

  • You need to choose com4 for gps on orbit.

  • hi everybody well i have had this phone since it came out and reading all ur opinions about it messinng up ive neva had a problem at all with mine nuthing never goes wrong maybe uve just gt a faulty fone. also how do u put sat nav on hear

  • can anybody advise me how to put my programs nto folders such as "games"...i have too many programs and they tke ages to go through...

  • Can anyone advise on how to get Tom Tom Navigator 6 operating on the Orbit. I've loaded it, but at configuring stage, I'm not sure which type of GPS device to select, and keep getting "no GPS device" message. Thanks, Odie.

  • Is the WM6 available in English for this device? If anyone have a link where I can download it,please publish it becuase I need it for the Vista. Thanks All

  • The XDA Orbit really could have been the be all and end all of phones. All the normal features you'd expect from a phone (phone, camera, mp3 player) and the added advantage of a built in GPS? Where do I sign up! And to be fair once you get used to Windows Mobile's quirks (of which there are many), it's a decent enough (but not great) phone. However, the thing that really kills it is the tiny amount of internal memory and general sluggishness. Sometimes the phone takes so long to come out of sleep that you actually miss calls! This is despite me having set my ring time to longer than the network default and having installed a third-party overclocking program on the phone! I'm now back to using my tired old Sony Ericsson phone for day to day tasks and only using the Orbit when I need the GPS. I'd suggest you avoid until they beef up the hardware or release the Windows Mobile 6 version of this.

  • I have had nothing but trouble since I got this phone. The sat nav card didnt work so I sent my phone back 3-5 days, recieved a new 1,3-5 days, courier took sat nav out of the box(the broke bit) card never worked, got new card, 3-5 days, got it working, got charged 80+ for gprs charges. Rip Off. Good Lookig Rubbish. Customer services NOT helpful except 1 rep. Called Cus.Ser, For 15 mins at a time, 25 mins one day. Ive had it 2 months it cost 120 RIP Off 3-5 days does not include weekends. 1st bill 40, 2nd bill 80+ cancelled contract. Make it work first time. Train customer services to be helpful, not just a voice for my account total.

  • This phone is not for those who need a phone that can do 'phone' functions -eg answer calls, messaging. Its great if you want a high tech gadget. I'm stuck with a phone that won't answer calls (I've been told this is because its running so many other processes that its too slow to register you pressing the 'answer' key), and I can't get my phone to receive picture messages AND be able to send text messages. I don't really need the other functions as much as these - just waiting for an unlock code to go back to my beloved motorola v3i. Also texting with a stylus isn't as fast as using a numerical keypad for someone who is used to predictive text

  • I have just purchased XDA Orbit. Can any one please tell how to search for contacts from the phone book alphabatically. Just now when I type any alphabet it shows all the contacts having that particular alphabet, it doesnt sagregate or scroll to names starting with that particular alphabet. Can any one plz tell me how to do the settings for this

  • this a warning to all those who are planning to buy o2 devices in the future! beware! I am from India. I was happy using O2 phones such as the XDA II and the Atom so I decided to go in for another. I purchased an O2 XDA Stealth on Feb 12th 2007 and had immediately regretted the decision as I started facing a hell lot of problems in the device. Almost after a month of correspondence with O2 they sent me a replacement handset. I was happy until i opened the new unit. It had the same problems and some new. Again after long talks with O2 (Mr Keanu) they sent me another replacement promising me that this would work but it did not. Naturally I was very angry and frustrated. At this stage I ahd lost all faith in the Stealth and demanded O2 to give me some other handset for all the inconvienience that I have faced . After a series of talks with O2 Singapore(Mr Keanu) I received an Atom Exec. But my problems worsened! After a couple of days the Exec "died" ie it would not charge. when the charger was connected it would show full battery and when disconnected it would switch off and not switch on for days. Highly annoyed and frustrated I began my talks again with O2 and at the same time bought the O2 Zinc. That was another error from my side as the Zinc also had problems. Its indicator LED malfunctioned and the microphone gave out static. Those were horrible times for me having two defective handsets. O2 finally agreed to replace both these handsets and they did. So I have already used 3 Stealths, 2 Atom Execs and 2 Zincs. That adds up to 7 O2 phones in about five and a half months!!! Well things dont end here. once again I am having problems with the Zinc such as the LED is malfunctioning, the speaker switches on automatically when a call is made, the speaker dies out, screen freezes..etc.. So to all those who are planning on investing their money on an O2 device please do not as the quality of O2 devices is degrading day by day and is no longer dependable as it once upon a time was. if any of you want to know bout the problems i faced in these many devices please contact me on +919884414907

  • Nope !!! will this work with 4gb minisd card? thank you!

  • I've had my XDA Orbit for 6 months now and it really is an outstanding device. In all that time I think it has locked up only twice - infinitely better than the XDA Mini S I had before where lockups happened at least once a day! Regarding the built-in keyboard question, I had one of course on the XDA Mini S and thought it would be indispensable. In fact it was completely useless. Hopeless on a desk, on a train or plane or in my hand. You think it will be a good idea but in fact it's about as useless as a chocolate teapot. My advice - avoid slide-out qwerty keyboards like the plague. They are completely un-ergonomic. The stylus and soft keyboard are perfect and very quick to get accustomed to and to use. I've tried the mouse mode - which is novel - but in practice when using the soft keyboard and the mouse to point to each key, it's about a half to a third the speed of using the stylus at best. The trackball comes into its own though when you want to select menu items or icons as you can use it to very quickly move the focus from one to the next and then press the (neat illuminated) trackball button itself to make the selection. Note this does not need mouse mode (and the mouse pointer) enabled. The outer wheel around the trackball can be similary used to quickly move the focus point. As regards the position of the microSD card, it's perfect. Out of harm's way and no less useful for it. With USB, Bluetooth and Wi-Fi connectivity to choose from, copying and moving files to and from the storage card to/from my PC is a breeze and the last thing I'd want is to actually have to be physically juggling the memory card just to transfer files. How archaic! The O2 XDA Orbit is truly outstanding. Just don't forget to get Microsoft Voice Command and a decent noise cancelling Bluetooth headset for an all-round stunning solution. Buy one!

  • Can you use this handset with a MAC PC

  • will this work with 4gb minisd card? thank you!

  • Hi I have had my XDA about 2 months now I have all the latest software. Co-pilot is really brilliant on it. I have however in the last week started getting a "white screen of death" at various points when the using the phone. It also seems to have got itself confused about how many storage cards it has on board ie 2??? Has anyone else experienced anything like this?? Thanks Sparker

  • Hey i have the XDA orbit its brilliant. mobile 6 upgrade is due to be released by o2 in the next 2 weeks. You can get the battery life on the main display. click on start, settings, today, then tab to items, and put a tick through the box that says meters, then click options, and u can have a percentage bar stating battery left, main memory and storage card. i also have a sperate program from the internet on my display screen which tells me the signal percentage, how many texts i've sent, and how many calls ive made and total time. u can get some many great add ons. tom tom 6 is the best though!

  • Can anyone advise if the Orbit can be upgraded from WM5 to the new WM6?

  • ive had the phone for 2 months now and think its awesome. the only thing that worries me is the fact that the battery dosent show on the the display screen and i have to touch the time to know how much ive got left....does anybody know how to bring the battery icon on the display or in the menu bar next to the clock....

  • Im always running out of memory on main storage, anyone know how to clear a big chunk without effecting functions

  • Doesanyone know if there is anyway to move the text messages to the storage card to free up space on the phone?

  • hey, i just got this remarkable piece of technology. the phone is awsome bieng the first one with a mouse ball and a jog dial(like ipod). but the camera sucks!!!!

  • Tom.. To hard re-set press and hold both soft keys, and press the small reset button. Release the reset key - Keep hold of the softkeys until the format message appear. Green Send to format - any other key to cancel.

  • Can anyone help. I have just recieved my 02 XDA Orbit and so far so good, however I have now hit some problems.. Someone sent me a picture message and it says I have to download it? I have pressed download and nothing seems to happening. Also this is a silly question but can the Wi-FI be left on all the time or is this costing me to leave it on? Can anyone please help Thanxs.

  • any one knows the solution for restarting.. phone is became unstable I think because of software I install (skype, tom tom, orb)

  • Can anyone help. I've just got an Orbit on upgrade and the silver jog dial/wheel seems loose. Is this the same on all orbits?

  • this device is so cool!

  • Hi all Got my Orbit yesterday. So far, very pleased. Some nice logical improvements over the XDA Mini S I've used for the last year or so. I want to set my email up so it checks my Gmail account every hour or so (I know I can change the frequency of this) and download the messages and either the full email or first part. So I went through the suggested steps, it seemed to go online with my address & password okay and get the details automatically. Now, I can SEND email fine - write it normally, click send, it goes to outbox until I Send/Receive - however, it's not RECEIVING anything - that is to say, despite me having lots of emails, some unread, the phone is not picking them up. Last night it was receiving something - over 400 of them. This took some time and after all that, I had nothing - only an email that I ha0d received from O2 regarding my log in password. Anyone got any suggestions for me to get this working properly? Thanks in advance! Mike

  • This phone is excellent, although I had my first SD card corruption at the weekend (I've owned the phone for 4 months, so not too bad). The only 'bad' points are that the camera isn't great quality, the phone usage takes some getting used to and some applications run slowly on 200Mhz (see BatteryStatus).. TomTom is great for this device - you navigate to the addresses in your outlook contacts. I find opera much better than IE, and get an application called Battery Status - it allows you to scale the CPU (Overclock when busy & underclock when idle).

  • omap 200mhz same dual core,totall 400mhz

  • please help. i can not seem to send my windows address book to my xda as i only have microsoft outlook 2000. please help i need my contacts from my pc onto the phone

  • I got this fone a couple of months back. I just have no words to explain it's performance. It's simply awesome. The features provided are just right in place. There has been no snags, hangs or anything like that. I also use the WiFi option everyday and the browsing is too good. Overall this is one worthy fone to own. Great job O2!! I appreaciate it.

  • Hi, i don understand why most of the built-in GPS pocket pc come with 200 MHz processor? Why don't they increase the processor? at least 400 MHz! they can but they don't want cuz they plan to drain more consumers for their future products! For the people who are own this device and using it, give me an honest feedbacks regarding the processor speed. Is it fast enough to surf the web while listening to FM, MP3, and using other programs?

  • um is the the orbit the same as the mda 111?

  • Tomtom + Spb Mobile Shell 1.5 software is very good on my Xda!! This is ultimate phone.

  • Hi guys, Got my orbit today and have installed Tomtom6. Any other program suggestions? I've tried reading through all the posts. I'm also after medical programs - any suggestions and where to get them? Thanks!

  • I have a XDA from the UK but am based in Q8 and want to use the GPS. Wud the co-pilot 6 work in Q8? Thanks & Regards,

  • I have had an XDA Orbit for the last week and to be honest it`s been a struggle to get connected to my WiFi router, I finally managed to get connected tonight and onto the next problem, now I can`t get onto the internet using the WiFi connection. Clicking on Internet Sharing does not seem to do anything and Internet Explorer just reports "The page cannot be found, check the name and try again". The help file says click on settings/connections/connections and click on MsISP and set up a modem connection but I don`t have a MyISP Icon to click on, I feel i`m so close but yet so far, can anyone help ?.

  • Anyone know a good piece of software that can covert .avi, .mpeg-4, .divx files into a smaller capacity so i can fit them onto a SD card and play them through windows media player on the xda orbit??

  • had a xda orbit for a few months now with no problem untill now.. when i connect to the internet which was fine until the other day, now a message pops up & reads, The page cannot be found. check the name and try again.can anyone please help! cheers Rich

  • Maps need to be in the right directory when you install for Tomtom to find them. This phone is ace, but do your homework on installation before you start to avoid problems. i.e. Put TomTom on a 2Gb sd card, Install SDSentry to avoid corruption of sd card. Sound is adequate, don't expect Ipod quality, but everything else is truly very good.

  • Hi, Planning to buy O2 Orbit, i just want to know how is the sound quality of the phone i mean the earpiece and the sound at handfree. Thanks

  • Guys can anyone help, i have installed tomtom 6 on my xda but when I start it, it gives the message "no maps found".

  • I also work for o2 and i am upset that the o2 cocoon has been leaked - this is supposed to be hush hush until its launch on 22nd june. I have reported this to a manager as this is leaking information. You will hear about this device shortly.......

  • the cocoon is pretty plasticy, but not denying its pretty cool, the alarm clock/charging stand is nifty.did anyone see when u wer having a play on it, if it was able to have different colours on the outside screen?

  • didnt think much to the cacoon the lights on back showing time was kind of cool but general look of phone was a bit poor and the case its self looked cheap the aplications on h/s or good but you can get the same on most modern hand sets the way you charge the h/s is a good idea but generally thought there would be more to it

  • does anyone know if the problem with memory as been resolved for the orbit or do you still have to download tool to correct it

  • Hi, had a xda orbit for a few months now with no problem till now.. I use wifi to connect to the internet which was fine until the other day, now a message pops up & reads, The page cannot be found. check the name and try again.can anyone please help! cheers Rich.

  • just had training on cacoon.its bar code reader is for if you buy a concert ticket for the o2 arena.when you go instead of showing your ticket a bar code will show on the handset and you swipe that through.it also is a white flip phone with a blue led display on the front which is quite cool.it also as a 2MP camera and 2GB internal memory and also as expandable memory.also wot is cool.as soon as you enter the o2 arrena a map of the arena will automatically appear on your main screen to show you round.

  • sneak i work for o2 mate,at the moment this handset is been kept very hush hush,so dont know where youve seen it but trust me.you'll see

  • when i run tomtom on this fone it says "No GPS device!" can someone tell me wats wrong.. any kind of help will be greatly appreciated. thnx

  • o2_csa: where did you learn that the Cocoon has a barcode reader? I've seen it twice now and not seen any mention of this feature at all.

  • for jives... i work for o2 and the xda orbit does come unlocked to any network.the cacoon is going to be launched soon, its guna have a bar code reader so u can pay for things like concert tickets, train tickets and even macdonalds through your phone.how cool eh.its not a pda tho.

  • Can I buy only the phone unblocked so I can use my present network supplier? Someone mentioned a 'Cocoon' mobile about to be launched. Who is this made by and where can I get the details and specs?

  • this phone is good but i work for o2.watch out for the cocoon that will be launched soon.its way cooler!!!!!

  • so how do you change the co pilot from the 256mb mem card to a 1 gb mem card.

  • Please can someone confirm if the device will support the microSD with a size of 2GB?

  • This is an excelent phone. Give credit to HTC for making it. o2 just bought it from them and changed the cosmetics. Previously o2 started with the atom which was big failure and the phone sucke thats because o2 got Quantra to make it not HTC. and a hit of advice only install one or two third party softwares they will cause your device to crash and don't install free apps they are worse and thats why they are free. overall this is a good pda/phone 9/10 when they give it better camera it will be 10/10.

  • Hi Friend, If somebody is thinking to buy this mobile and have some questions, than read this first. 1- Orbit was said to have problem of corrupting memopry card, but it has been solved. You just have to install a software on your memory card and no more troubles. see below for link 2- Regarding GPS, throw away co-pilot or give it to your worst neighbour as a gift, and use tomtom with it. see its setting on the link below. 3- Battery time varies 2-3 days depending how heavily you use it. Overall its still better than battery time of N95. 4- Only problem occurs, if you keep playing and installing junky softwares on it, which are useless, and only solution for that is hard reset. means installation of all softwares and data. If you are planning to but it, heighly recommended, while comparing to N95, only camera matters. see details for tomtom setup and card corruption solution here; best of luck, if you have any problems, you are welcome to exchange e-mails.

  • realy god phone.... i have a problem with mine... i cant phone out on it it says "cannot complete the call.the signal maybe unavailable or the phone number may not be valid...verify the number or try again later...anyidea? please email me at [email protected] cheers...

  • You can download GPS satellite data through activesync or wifi to speed up the connecting process but it is not essential. If you can not use GPS, it is probably because of improper settings. For example you have to set to COM4 for GPS and choose the correct type of receiver in configuration menu if you want to use it with tomtom. By the way, the GPS signal reception is very very good.

  • its a best ever pda i had.it has all qualities.it can handle lots of memory without any problem.got inbuilt GPS,Bluetooth,WiFi and lots.camera is not bad,its good.if you get GPS expiration notice then just go to start->program then click on GPS.it will open GPS download window.before you click on download make sure you have GPRS or WiFi internet access ready and active on your mobile.it will update its GPS satellite files.its simple.

  • I recently purchased an XDA Orbit, after previously owning an XDA II and the original XDA before that. The XDA II died on me after several years faithful service. :) The Orbit is generally a significant improvement on previous XDA generations while retaining a clear family lineage that makes transition easy. I would recommend it to previous XDA owners who are after a smaller, lighter phone and don't need the larger screen size of other XDA models. If your PDA usage is like mine and generally limited to Calendar, Contacts, Tasks and a bit of light internet browsing, the smaller Orbit screen size is perfectly adequate. I'm not sure I'd enjoy using Word and Excel on it to any great extent however. Phone quality is very good, and bluetooth connectivity to an headset doesn't seem prone to the occasional niggles that occurred with the XDA II. I found no problems using Tom Tom 6 with the Orbit. Use "other NMEA" option and "COM4" when you get to those stages in setting up Tom Tom 6 on your Orbit and you should be fine, exactly as a previous reviewer suggests. There is a recent update available via Tom Tom Home when you install for the Orbit (listed as HTC Artemis) - maybe that helped the process. I am impressed at how fast the GPS antenna locks onto the satellite signals - much quicker than the old RoyalTek GPS mouse I used to use with the XDA II. My only complaint so far is that battery life seems to be significantly shorter than with the XDA II, esp with screen on full brightness and heavy use of Bluetooth. However, maybe after the battery goes through a few cycles, this might improve. It is still more than enough for a day's use, but I think I will have to remember to take the charger with me when I go away on business for more than an overnight. Accessories I'd recommend to new Orbit owners - a car charger (the salesman pointed me to one designed for Motorola phones I think, that seems to work fine); a case (Piel Frama make an acceptable one) so the screen doesn't switch on accidently while in your pocket; Tom Tom Navigator 6. Overall, I'd recommend the Orbit for anyone needing basic PDA functionality, satellite navigation and a good quality phone in a light, stylish design. Those using Office applications intensively may need a bigger screen and those using wireless/bluetooth very heavily may need a device with longer battery life.

  • hey guys .. i have bought an o2 orbit xda frm UK and the software for gps is tom tom i am not abele to access gps in india can please anyone tell me in detail how can i use the gps system in india .. i mean which software should i install and what all should i do to use that in inda..

  • It is interesting reading the wide varied range of comments about this XDA. I am interested in getting a few issues answered if anyone knows the answer..... How do you avoid the dreaded memory card corruption mentionede by a few people? A number of people are having issues with the GPS working, Is it really that difficult or are they trying to install it incorrectly ? Is it really better to load the C-pilot software on a larger memory card? Is there a major advantage of using TomTom over the FREE C0-pilot software?

  • i just got 1 O2 Orbit but cannot use GPS. When active it, a notice inform it expired and need to download GPS. Could anyone help me?

  • A good phone. Just be careful you don't suffer from the dreaded Storage Card corruption that has affected many XDA Orbits. You have been warned!

  • when you did the transfer was it on your pc? or via connecting the two together?

  • Yes you can. I managed to transfer all the required files into my 2GB Transflash card before activating the Co-pilot software.

  • Thanks Claudia.

  • hi, just to let u know that u r able to copy the sat nav programme to a larger memory card. my partner has done this for me. there is a no u can call for help {part of 02} this is: ALK on 08708501649 good luck claudia

  • Hi people, how much is this fone off line n how long the battry lasts if u use wifi continus.plz let me knw I love this fon looks beautiful.

  • After you have installed TomTom Navigator successfully, here's how to get the Orbit's built-in GPS receiver to work with TomTom Start > Settings > 'System' tab > GPS From the GPS settings 'Programs' tab, set the "GPS program port" to a spare COM port - COM4 works for me Close the dialog by selecting 'Ok' Now, open TomTom Navigator. Go to the menu, select 'Change preferences' > 'Show GPS status'. Next, press the 'Configure' button Scroll through the predefined GPS receivers, and select ' Other NMEA GPS device'. Press 'Select' Next, set the baud rate. The default of 4800 worked fine for us, but we also had good results with the maximum speed of 115200. Then ,press 'Done Finally, set the COM port to the port selected earlier, e.g. COM4 That should be it. The next screen should show the GPS Status screen , with information on the satellites received. p.s You should be outside of your house to get signal.

  • All works perfectly just need to sort all the ports like that (cheers who post that): tomtom nav 6 does work u just need to fibble in the gps settings of teh phone u need to change the software port to com4 and the hard ware port to none but change the baud rate to 9600 and in access check the box to automaticly manage gps after i did that in tomtom select other nmea gps reciver and com4 then wait u need to be out side really to allow a good reception. have fun thanks mate

  • any suggest which port need to use Tom tom navigator when choose >other select GPS reciever>other bluetooth GPS reciever> than choose port or something.. please help tryed everything doesn't work at all tryed all port it says no gps device or tom tom gps reciever always not conecting as well.. Please suggest how to config..

  • see below website

  • This phone is best phone i have ever had. I installed TOMTOM SAT NAV SOFTWARE and skype!!

  • can anyone please tell me wether i can use the gps in india as i bought the mobile in uk ?

  • This handset is awsome, Danger Dan has bought poor T-Mobile version to try and compare. Nevermind you'll soon realise you should have saved your money for the Orbit as youve wasted your money :P

  • After reading the reviews I gather that the Sat Nav software is on a seperate memory card. Are you able to copy this onto a bigger card so you don't have to keep swapping cards to use the Sat Nav and if so how?

  • Can you copy the Sat Nav software onto another Micro SD card to use in the unit?

  • is there anyway to get games for the orbit?

  • A superb PDA with great features. Well finished product.

  • i think this is a super phone i got 1 the other day and i could do everything i wanted to do on it.

  • Hi. Just bought the Orbit from O2 but scroll wheel is very stiff to turn (unuseable)and the sat button does not feel as responsive as the others. Is this normal for the wheel and does it loosen up after a short while? Or should I be taking it back and asking for another? Otherwise a nce phone. I've just upgraded from a Mini S, much slimmer and lighter but I'm not sure if I'll miss the keyboard...Time will tell....

  • got it done and work now but anyone know how to make it talk? for some reason i seems to have the voice installed(I think i have) but it wouldnt work..

  • I fotgot to mention that i have TOMTOM 6

  • Hi, I have the same problem as orbituk..the GPS never seems to find any valid GPS at all..anyone can help me pleaseeee..really need it to work urgent..thank u

  • Hi Friend, No doubt this PPC is full of functions and one of the best now in market. But frankly speaking I would like to tell you that it has two major drawbacks on which its manufacturer's (HTC) is working but no result untill now. 1- After installing couple of softwares it starts going through soft reseting loops. simple words keep restarting itself. Headache, you cant do anything, except take out memory card and it will become ok, or other option hard reset, means deleting all you data. 2- It corrupts the file in mico SD card. After using it for approximatley 1 week, it make some corrupted files in your memory card, and you cant do anything except formating the card. This is said to be due to excessive usage, especially with TOMTOM or other navigation softwares. But definately we spent handsome money to navigate and not to make it show piece. So in simple words, 1st impression is marvellous, but long term,,,headache. Decided yourself what you like. And if anybody says that he/she has solution for it, than kindly dont forget to send an-email to me. thanks, cheers.

  • my lovely Orbitek its awsome curently works with 247 mhz speed its supeerb device my recomended contact me i you need help welcome

  • {{{{My phone keeps automatically connecting to GPRS, how do i stop this as doesnt it cost a lot of money}}}} Just go in setting and change GPS satellite configuration to wifi (if you have) or PC syn, so that it will update latest poistion of staellites through wifi or pc sync (internet) rather than connecting to GPRS and keep charging you. best of luck.

  • this phone is ace hits that good my friend andrew plays with him self wile he slaps leighs bum

  • Hello PLEASE HELP My phone keeps automatically connecting to GPRS, how do i stop this as doesnt it cost a lot of money PLEASE HELP!!!

  • You can pick up GPS signal in india, but personally I think GPS function is pretty useless without maps

  • A general update for those who have a little challenge with their toy. When you cant use your Home network for internet, remember that you have had it secure for wireless. Use the same settings to connect example the network key etc. On the TT5 and TT6. You have to use the root of the memory card and do NOT save them all in one folder. The best is to install all the TT5 and TT6 on the memory card and then all your other docs. When you switch the Orbit on, sometimes the TT5/6 would like to start up and just let it go through its phases. Remember to choose the install path for SD Card and NOT main memory the save space!! To configure it on the device settings in TT5/6, make use of the Other Bluetooth device and not the wired one. I think it is the second one to select and just follow the on screen instructions. For those who complain about RSI, why are you so long on the device during the day when you have to work or do you use it 100% of the 24hours? Like you, the phone wants to rest as well. LOL Then I KNOW, someone again will complain about the camera quality, keep your comments about the camera to yourself and use your Canon or Nikon or whatever digital camera you have. This is a multi purpose device where you choose the functions of the PDA, phone or GPS. For those who would like to have access to their home computer via the wireless at your work or internet caf, you can download on the computer ORB at www.orb.com and register with email address and password. Log into your account at Mycast and you have full access to the pc or laptop. I even use it in bed to watch DVDs to my Orbit or XDA EXEC! Keep in mind the laptop or pc has to be switched on. I tested it with someone in South Africa to give a file to my friend and it works great!! It was faster than sending it via SKYPE or email. The beauty of ORB is that you can send exe.apps through that where the most email providers doesnt allow it because they see those types of files as viruses. After that I had to change the password for security reasons. Any other help will be offered where I can do. Just use your common sense before you write a complaint about the device and make sure you read the manual before you do something less clever. [email protected] +447763113535 UK London

  • Hi Can i use GPS services in India. Can any one guide me please?

  • I'm really happy with my Orbit but I can't seem to get my home wanadoo/ orange wireless broadband to work on it| Anyone any tips??? Cheers

  • When I had TT5 it ran so smooth, but now I have upgraded to TomTom 6 and it is lagging badly. Can anyone give me any assistance?

  • hi can any one suggest me pls! do i need to buy an additional blutooth navigation receiver to fit in my car or just its aplug n play load the maps ??

  • How much would TT6 cost to put into my XDA orbit. Is it cheaper elsewhere?

  • The orbit is a great phone but the free copilot software that came with it certainly is not! really slow and fiddly to use. Ive taken it off and put on TomTom 6 which is far better with clearer mapping, voice and also runs much quicker

  • To Henning Ras, thanks for your suggestions, but it shows all the maps perfectly ; my problem was that my Orbit device is not recieving valid GPS signal from sattelite. everytime i run the TT6 there , it shows connecting to or searching for valid GPS signal. Help me if u have any solution for this. thanks

  • To Orbituk When you install the maps onto the device,DO NOT PUT IT ALL IN ONE FOLDER!! If you did it like that to make the storage card look organized,it can not find the maps. All must be in the root of the micro sd card, meanoing all by itself.I had the same problem before and since I "opened" them,TT6 work perfectly on my device. By the way,for those who struggle with Copilot, get rid of it or give to your worse neigbour! I sent me the fiosrt time on a SEVEN mile detour and all I had to do was walking down the road for ONE mile!!! Soon you will be able to contact me through www.gnld-advance.com and then you can see what I have in mind for the Orbit to be developed. Henning

  • i hv installed tomtom navigator 6 in my O2 orbit, but it does not recognise any gps signal!!! does any one know how to solve this problem? well i hv downloaded the latest sattelite data thru QuickGPS as well , but still no response. please help .

  • Hi Grolsch30, glad to hear that and be of assistance !!! Enjoy the phone, it's really GOOD !!

  • Mr D, It worked! O2 phoned me up this morning and talked about my grievences and they offered me the Orbit on a 35 contract free with free copilot sat nav. Because a new version of copilot is coming out and I idealy need the european version also I asked them to give me the value of the copilot sat nav in credit which they agreed. So thats a free Orbit with a 35 contract for 12 months with 100 credit. Job done :) Thanks for the advice again Mr D. Anyone now know when the Copilot live version 7 is out??? ;) Cheers now :)

  • O2 Orbit?

  • it hasnt keypad.

  • Does anybody know if you can download films etc onto the pda and what file formats it will support and what software it has to play them?

  • The scroll wheel gives you RSI for one handed use. They should have stuck to the DPad. 4 reasons why it gives you RSI - The trackball requires fine motor control especially to move horizontally - the scroll wheel is too inaccurate (in the calendar view, it is hard to go 3 days forward) - the interaction between the hardware and software is too slow. As a result, you aren't sure if your movements have made a difference. As a result, you keep scrolling until you see something happen and then realise that you have gone too far. - you have to hold the phone fairly delicately but then gently move the trackball mechanism

  • Grolsch30 UK, I understand what you're saying about why bothering but trust me if it works then it will be worth it. My letter was passed onto a young lady who understood where I was saying and why I was upset. The other thing you MUST point out to them are these new TV adverts that o2 give ALL the customers the same deals!!! Why if that was the case then if a new customer can get both the Orbit & Sat Nav for 'free' on a 40 pm contract, why cant an existing loyal customer get it free ?? Patience is the virtue, trust me I went though it and it worked......good luck !!

  • By the way does anyone know when Copilot Live 7 is available? Apparently it should be out now, having read a review on it it should be realy good! Cheers

  • Mr D, I have phoned the retentions team and they seemed quite happy to give me my PAC code which I now have. The first time I phoned them they said I would get it within 48 hours but I did not. So I phoned them again today telling them this and also telling them that I felt penalised and that they are not willing to recognise my loyalty by not upgrading for the last 2 years, and I am even willing to upgrade my tariff to 35. But alas still no free sat nav or 100 +/- cash back offer! Told them about the offer from Orange for the SPV M700 with superior specs (bigger proccessor, 3G & also GPS), on a 35 tafiff with 100 - 150 credit on account depending on contract length. It seemed like the little britain sketch if you know it where "the computer says NO", they just were'nt pro active or interested. I am now sending a letter to the complaints review service and I shall see where that gets me but I am thinking why the hell am I bothering, got my PAC number just go to Orange!!!! I suppose the reason is that I prefer the Orbit as it is just that little smaller and does have the better GPS chip in although all the reviews on the M700 have been very good! Anyway I know know that I shall always upgrade every year from now on even though I may not want to, even if there is no phone I like I will just get on and then even sell it or give it away to a family member. Rant over ;) Cheers now

  • For Grolsch30 UK: I had a similar situation with o2 and was given contradicting info. from 2 different people at o2. In any case I then went onto their website and found that I could get the Orbit for free aswell as the Co-pliot software(that depends on your tariff). Was then told by o2 uogrades that o2 website though it was part of o2 it was a separate company and they could offer better deals (what a load of crap). In any case at this point I was disgusted and was happy to leave o2 but not without putting an official complaint letter forward, so I did to there complaints review dept. Told them what happend and that they did not give a damn about the existing customer blah blah........... and 2 weeks later had the Orbit and Software for free !!! (not technically, but they put the necessary credit onto my account so I was not charged) Give a go what do you have to lose??

  • Lomax How did you get your 100 cashback and 35 tariff with your free Orbit? I just phoned them and all they would give me is the Orbit for free but I would have to buy the Co Pilot sat nav for 49.99, and I have not upgraded my phone for at least 2 years! Anyway told them I will think about it and mentioned better spec'd Orange SPV M700 (HTC P3600), with 3G & GPS (even though GPS is not marketed by Orange the phone does have it), and said I may go to Orange. I then asked for my PAC code which they have now ordered and hopefully will receive in the next 48 hours. Maybe O2 will phone back with a better offer then again maybe not, then it's bye bye O2 and hello Orange :) Cheers now

  • I love the Orbit, its awsome almost as fun as bum love with my lover Leigh!

  • I am wondering whether to get this phone on an upgrade with the free co pilot sat nav O2 are offering, but I have also looked at the Orange SPV M700 which is also made by HTC and has 3G and GPS. The GPS function is not mentioned in the Orange specs/ catologue but after some research the phone has definately got it in built. This plus the overall specs seem far better than the Orbit! Now which one should I go for and which sat nav is best tom tom 6 or co pilot live 6??? cheers now :)

  • When i am using TomTom 6 on the Orbit will i get charged? sorry but i am a bit new to all this sat nav stuff.

  • Had the Orbit since it was released. Brilliant bit of kit. Was concerned at first with the PDA format for a phone but OK. Yes it does work with Memory Map V5 and the GPS seems to get lock quicker in MM than when using Co-Pilot.

  • I've just ordered it as a free upgrade with 100 cashback on a 35 a month contract. Can't wait, just need to sort some gps software and TomTom looks like the one. :)

  • Have had the Orbit for few weeks and this phone/pda is brilliant. Used the Co-Pilot sat nav over the Easter break and it was spot on and above all it's a phone 2!!! Who needs to have a separate sat nav when you can have the ORBIT.

  • This pda/phone/sat nav handset is awesome. I replaced my sony ericsson k800i and my Garmin Sat nav, with this bad boy. Yeah, you can charge and use the sat nav in the car at the same time. The o2 website are giving you free copilot sat nav software and car kit with their contracts. Go for it!!

  • looking to buy the XDA orbit two questions really DO you have to pay to send and receive emails on the xda? can you check your emails for free. Is the internet and the SAT NAV free aswell? really appriecate someone answering this questions!!

  • can any one tell me if they can use gps in the car and charge the phone at the same time so you don't drain the phone battery before you get to you destination? because thats the poblem i had with the first 02 atom i connected to an external bt gps and plugged in the usb car charger and it would not charge the phone at the same time as using the gps what a waste. i know how to go to the shops down the road i need gps to for those long drive to unknown place and if the gps drains the battery you either lost before you get there or you now don't have battery life for making the call that your lost and can't find your way haha lol. so if this is no longer a problem than this is a great device please let me know and i am sure everyone would like to know this.

  • Windows Vista? Nothings compatible with that nonsense

  • Wondering has anybody used this phone with OS memory maps. how well does it work. Is it not worth worrying about one feature mabe get the N95

  • If you want WLAN, do not consider the N95 (I am returning mine because it and (Symbian OS) do not deliver what the N95 promises. (Also, Skype support, via fring, does not work on X95 and fring were actively unhelpful when I asked why and when). Plus, if you want to log into onto 3rd party WLAN providers in airports etc. (eg iPass, BT, T-Mobile), this capability is not there. Plus the N95 does not charge off a USB cable. Finally, Nokia pays no attention to its users or even its own Forums (others have complained about WLAN support on the X95 on the Nokia Forum - with no response). My first conclusion is that Nokia makes great devices but does not know how to support them. My second conclusion is that a Windows Mobile 5 is the only possible alternative, though these are imperfect also. I am going for a O2 XDA Orbit, even though it does have 3G (waiting for the Zinc or Trion is not worth it because they are SO thivk - 22mm). Good luck.

  • Does anyone else have problems connecting the handset to their computer? Mine just says 'connecting' and will not sync. Am I missing something? My Exec did ther same thing so I sent it back as I thought it was faulty.

  • this is one fantastic phone for anyone, email internet, sat nav, pda, mini computer all in one what a brill little device this is i would never give this a bad name

  • Elo peeps, any chance of some comparison between the Orbit n N95? I am aware of the camera issue. what about symbian n windows? I had the n70 and never really warmed up to symbian. anyone been able to use both on a long period of time?

  • Not compatible with Windows Vista.

  • Hi folks, does anyone know whether Memory Map works with the Orbit. Cheers. PM

  • I got my Orbit two days ago. What a phone!! I does everything I want and more besides. As far as I am cocerned? it's the best thing on the market and I truly would not be without it now. How did I manage without it?

  • I would bet that most of the o2 customers would have little complaint with the CS.except for u. 1 assistant does not represent all the employees of the company. funny how wheneva i go to my o2 shop they r realy helpful. maybe its the customer thats sometimes wrong nt just the assistant.

  • To the attention of Nour, how did they give it to u for 20? I have the talker tariff, 1000mins 150 text and they only discounted it by 5, to 30, without the satnav! How would u guys rate the satnav software? is there a beter free/paid alternative out there? and does it come on a memory card? Thanks lads

  • where are you from because in my region my store always has stock and can order stock for you... maybe you came into your nearest store being ignorant and arrogant, they did not feel they had to put up with... why bother going to a store when you buy it off ebay anyway??? In my experience 9 out of 10 faultys are customers stupidity or heavy handedness or liquid damage or not faults at all. . . I would like to see you go anywhere else like 3 or t-mobile and get wat you want perfectly

  • Oh, and the O2 shop never has anything in stock (I live near two O2 shops in the largest shopping mall in Europe) They very rarely stock stylii, spare batteries, cases or chargers for the XDA series, but are very quick to provide excuses, blank stares and off the cuff insults free of charge.

  • Well I hope you're not as rude as the O2 shop assistants I have dealt with in the past. I went into the O2 shop to buy a memory card for my phone, and was told that a 2gb card would be 30. When I said that they were only 20 in the O2 online shop, the 'assistant' was very rude. I ended up buying one on ebay for 15 including p+p and received it the next day. I suppose your job is reasonably safe until everyone figures out how to use the internet, but there's no need to be rude and pushy. It's a shame really, if you want to actually handle a phone before you buy it you have to go into a shop and put up with a halfwit that can't get a proper job. Do you deny that it is possible for a set of earphones to malfunction without maltreatment by the user? Maybe you should upgrade your job to a call centre or McDonald's? Or maybe one of those people who stand around in the street asking people if they have had an accident or injury in the last three years? Just a suggestion....

  • As an employee of an o2 store i believe this comment was harsh as we are the people who help you decide on phones and maybe you should have looked after your earphones better instead

  • Does it support MMS. Coz i've received 1 MMS and it says to go on web and check the link and follow instruction ? how to activate MMS in orbit ? pls reply at [email protected]

  • I've purchased Orbit 1 days before from Carphonewarehouse how would i check tht it have co-pilot or not ? Cold u also let me know how to change the tone of Text mess coz I didn't knew when it comes . I've to check it several times in day. pls. email me on [email protected]. Thanking you in advance.

  • My first smartphone and quite impressed with it. Would like some help setting up e-mail account with AOL. How do I check for new mails? - is the phone always 'on' i.e. will it will automatically update all e-mails received or do I firstly need to access the internet in some way?? Secondly is there any way of finding up how much KB/MB i've used up when on the internet? i don't want to go beyond my allocated 1mb per month. Cheers.

  • Thinking about getting this phone, but how is it for sending text messages? I realise thats not what its primarily designed for, pu can you type them using the touch screen with your fingers, or do you have to use the pen thing? How well does it work?

  • its good phone i and it was very usable with GPS my one got the co pilot it work cool and photos are real nice even in low light and mouse little bit difficult to use and it was a good phone

  • I need new headphones for my device. I went to the O2 store and those idiots dont even sell them. How stupid is that!!! What do i need to use my own headphones?

  • Phil, yes I do close the programs. I have wisbar advance 2 and that will close a program whenever you hit the X button. My device will not run slow when its active and I am running programs. The problem is whenever I have to soft reset. If I have too many programs installed the device will not re-boot and will just keep automatically reseting time and time again. Once I deleted a few programs from the device my orbit reboots fine.

  • i bought this device from ImportGSM, the shipping was fast and the customer WAS great before i made the payment. If anyone gonna purchase this phone from ImportGSM, you better becareful it comes with the T mobile MDA compact III firmware, which is a extremely unreliable, it made my phone freezes along with WIFI doesn't work properly. I had to waste money on 3rd party software in order to connect to WIFI. In my conclusion, for anyone who want to any PDA phone from online, do make sure ask the seller which firmware it comes with.

  • The only way to reset your password is to do a Hard reset, but you will loose all the Data on your device, you have to hold down the 2 soft keys and insert your stylus into the reset hole on the right edge of your device, hold the sylus in for about 5 seconds and take it out, while still holding the soft keys, you will then get a message asking you to confirm the hard reset, once done, are passwords are deleted giving you access to your phone, hope this helps!!

  • Do you close your apps after you finish using them? Or you just keep them open? I think it is slow becuase you run too many programs at the same time. Not because you have too many programs.

  • I am going to go back to my exec soon. I will never buy a PPC without at least a 520 MHZ processor. The problem I have with this, is it cannot handle all the programs I install. It gets to a stage where the phone struggles to re-boot and I have to uninstall programs. With the Exec I never got these problems. The Exec may take slower to reboot but at least it does.

  • Had this PDA/phone for a couple of weeks and it's great. Had XDA IIi before which is a little big and slow. The Orbit is so much better. GPS with CoPilot works really well and Windows mobile os much more functional. Only thing missing is a devise lock button rather than having to do it on the screen!

  • hi there.. i have lost my password for my xda can anybody tell me how to reset it?? please help me!!!! thanks in advance

  • how good the performance?8.1??? its real?? :P Coz Orbit has used 200mhz? so far that i know, most of kind of O2 product used 400mhz for minimum processor?

  • 65k colors? lol

  • Active Sync is there and yes you can use a Lan connection

  • Hi all.I suddenly can't open my Messages on the Orbit.Doesn't matter what I do.Every five or ten minutes the Following Problem Message comes on the screen that give me the option to send or not to send it to Microsoft.. I don't want to hard reset the Orbit,or I will loose very nice txt's I received froms friends around the world. Do any one knows how to solve this matter? Email me at [email protected] Thanks to all.

  • M i able to connect my pc LAN internet connection xda orbit ?? any tutorial ? please tell ... is ActiveSync there in this handset ?

  • Hi, Guys am having a very big problem with this Tomtom software, that is I have maps on the SD card which came with the phone, but very 3 day it keep on telling me that they are no maps on the card that I should download one map. How can I solve this prolem.Even when I reinstalt. the maps from cd after 3days I will get the same message no maps found.pls send me an email on how to solve this proble, [email protected] thnaks Dr am in Germany

  • To use GPS u just need the software. If you buy the phone with co-pilot already installed then u dont need anything at all.

  • Can you help me please... If i buy this phone in india.. how to use the GPS service. Will I be able to use it?? Wat else is required to use GPS facility .. like any router or something.. Please explain.. Thankx in advance.

  • great product on paper - how do I get in Australia??

  • I think a software an update is needed from o2. A few things I have got is whenever i soft reset sometimes the phone will not re-boot straight away. It will re-boot and then reset automatically a few times. As mentioned before on occassions data is missing from the SD card requiring a soft reset.

  • vix cant you just hard reset and start again?

  • Tom Tom 6 works fine installed on a 2gb Micro SD card. I would not pay $150 for it though. Thats madness. I open the SD card and sometimes my data is missing. I just soft reset and everything is fine. Once however I lost everything and had to reinstall all programs. So important you get back up software incase this happens and keep a copy of your backup file on a PC.

  • The phone is very good when it works. But it is a way unreliable :( With my PDA (loox 720) I KNOW that all my data is with me. With this device I pray for my data be there when I open them. Within a week all my data and installed applications had disappeared two times without any visible reason. And it is known that about half of those devices suffer from data corruption, which may affect you at any time. Unfortunately I've bought it on ebay, so I do not have an option to return it or exchange for another :(

  • lol..... loser phone....

  • Can any 1 tell me how good the webbrowser is on this thing?

  • Yo quick answers: MSN Messenger is pre-installed on the o2 phones, off line dont know. There's no physical keyboard, but on screen keyboard. Finally whats wide view? Do u mean landscape or portrait views...the answer is yes! Go be viewd as both! Got this phone...is good esp with co-pilot! Is slim, light and slick. Worth getting

  • really suky fone damn damn damn damn damn slow i dun think der can b a slower o2 fone avialable in da market ryt now

  • ABSOLUTELY BRILIANT. Had the mini s and it was almost useless, would keep freezing etc. This thing is just awesome. Upgraded in shop even though Im a select customer. I was out in ten minutes up and running. They oredered the co pilot for me which arrived 0700 next day. Unbelievable. Ive only got one glitch. I cannot locate live traffic updates in the co pilot menu. It doesnt seem to exist. No complaints though it works great. Well done o2, your finally listening.

  • quick question, does this have an physical keyboard or is it on screen? many thanks

  • Does O2 Orbit has option to chande screen to vide view?

  • Hi- can anyone tell me if i can get windows live messanger on this device? Or is it preinstalled?

  • My girlfried got me this XDA orbit today.. i want to RUN the navigation. Im here in USA, can i run tomtom6($150)software? what else do i need to run this? i know i need MicroSD(2gb. PLS help!

  • have this phone for 2 days and love it! one problem though... is it right that you can only send single sms messages? ie no 2,3 or 4 messages linked?

  • Tim, i'm an o2 select customer so was happy with the deal i got. Do you do desk stands yet or not? thx

  • I have go this phone and use Route 66 on it and it is great. I have had O2 branded products in the past and have been put off but this is a great device. I know of many of my colleagues here at O2 have been getting these devices as they are proving to be a sure fire hit.

  • Got the phone had it for 3 days and think it is great. Co-Pilot works a treat and i love the display sharper than my mini s being a TFT. Drawbacks are the micro SD being under the sim so go for as large amount of memory as you can afford. 9/10 from me.

  • Hi Khalid i ahve emailed you could you please reply when you get the chance it is to do with the tom tom 6 software thanks

  • Hi Khalid i just want to say a big up to you and thanks for helping me Respect.

  • Please could someone advise on whether it is ok to install the co-pilot software onto an sd card as my system memory is pretty full already, co-pilot advise installing to the device, can this be changed or will the program fail to operate Thanks

  • Just to let a lot of you guys know, There is NO sat nav build into this phone already. You have to get it as an extra On another note, I have been selling data phones for some time and I personally like this phone over all the rest, I think the design is brill and its ease of use. 10/10 Adam Carphone warehouse

  • Hi Khalid I emailed you two days ago at the following adress [email protected] but i do not know if you got the email bro. I have an Xda Orbit and i wanted to know where to get the tom tom 6 software plus destinator 6. Also i would want all maps voices points of intrests and speed camera locations you can have. I have a 2gb memory card like yours. Also can you tell me where to get all the applications you have for the xda orbit i cant seem to find anywhere where has software for it My email is [email protected] So if you could get in touch with me asap as i really want the tom tom 6 software try to read forums but no luck Thanks

  • Also please if u email me tell me what maps u need.

  • email me and I will fix u up with Tom Tom 6 and Destinator 6. I use a 2gb memory card. Thats the biggest isnt it? I would prefer 4GB. As for programs to download. I have resco explorer, resco photo viewer, Conduits MP3 Player, Core Player, Fizz Traveller, Flex Wallet 2006, Handyweather, Hide my Stuff, Wizbar Advance, LCG Jukebox Player, Memmaid, Worldmate Pro, MRing, 1-Calc, Opera Browser, Pocket Islam, SPB Pocket Plus, Travel Alarm, Resco Keyboard, SBSH Pocket Weather, Sim Alarm, SK Tools, SPB Backup, SPB Diary, Sunnysoft Backup, Visual IT's Tube 2, Vito Audio Notes, Pocket Informant.

  • hi khalid could you please give me the link to find Destinator 6 and tom tom 6. Thanx. And also i'd like to know how big memory card you use now thanx

  • Ordered mine yesterday got the Phone for 50 and the GPS software for free on a 12 month contract. Can't wait to get it although will be frustrated initially as i am so used to the keyboard on my MiniS. Anything i should download once i have set it up all generally all still ok out of the box? :-)

  • I got a 12 month contract with no GPS software as no way was I signing up for 18 months. I dont need co-pilot as you can get your own gps software quite easily.

  • Update on the software for this phone - Carphone Warehouse DO NOT send the phone with any GPS software - you have to purchase it additionally. Seems a bit silly as they could easily add it with afecting their costs too much. I'm now on an 18 month contract which is fine for me but I can't see what they are acheiving by this silly rule. Make sure you don't get caught out on this - if you need the software then make sure you buy it straight away - it is about 70-ish...

  • Just got this from O2 - it doesn't appear to have any preloaded GPS software and no card is supplied to enable TomTom. Have I missed something? Do I need to buy this separately? I got this phone from Carphone Warehouse on the O2 network... perhaps Carphone Warehouse take this out...

  • i dont know what you are all moaning about i upgraded to the orbit last week 750 mins 750 texts 20 a month and the orbit free with the sat nav, on an 18 month contract. i find o2s up grades to be the best around i have been with them for two years and think they offer a great service. orbit is pretty good too!!!!

  • Hi can anyone tell me what GPS software is included if any

  • What a phone, i had mind since dec and theres better phone that i had. it dose everything for me. great looks, light.

  • I dont use the email service but I think u need to get some software to use the push technology on something other than outlook. With hotmail I know the Hotmail + account allows you to recieve your emails via outlook. I think the palm data can be transferred but you need to download styletap. This allows WM5 devices to use Palm software.

  • I am very keen to get hold of this phone. I am aware that it comes with 'direct push technology'. Can I set the phone to notify me when I receive emails in my Yahoo / Gmail / hotmail account or does the direct push technology only work for emails received in Microsoft Outlook? Appreciate if someone can clarify this. Thanks!

  • Hi, Can I transfer data from my Palm Tungsten T3/Palm Desktop to the XDA Orbit I am just about to buy. Thanks, Mick

  • I have Destinator 6 and Tom Tom 6 on my orbit. Tom Tom 6 is very very good. email me and I can give you links on where to find these.

  • help i cannot get my sat nav co-pilot to work with my 2Gb memory card it only works with my 256Mb that came with it?????????????????????????

  • Hi.Just got my xda orbit 3 weeks ago.But I cant seem to use the FM radio.not sure if its the bad reception. can anyone help?

  • Help, I want to run Sat Nav from my Orbit but not sure which to get and were is the best place to get it. Would apricate any help. Cheers

  • The keypad will automatically appear when you need to enter something. I think the processor is good however the only time orbit slows down is when I use Pocket Music MP3 Player. When that is running I cant really doa anything else as the CPU really slows down. On Exec it never did this. However other than that the Orbit has run all my programs fine and ran multiple programs, no problem

  • I have a question for this phone....say your checking something and it says press 1 is the numbers on the screen or somethign? how does it work if you have to put in a pin number or something

  • does this handset come with a in car charger in the kit ?

  • People comment here abt slow processor at 201 MHZ CPU. But use it to know the difference. Its a core duo processor and cross icon acting as task manager. Beautiful piece. But dont go for Tmobile MDA III one as they have withdrawn wifi from it. Sound clarity, battery life great. only con is the loose bak end cover.

  • My Micro SD card today went crazy. I lost so many files and folders. Had to format the card and do a hard reset on the phone. I use Tom Tom 6 & Destinator 6 for GPS. Tom Tom 6 is better. If you want GPS software with maps email me and I'll help u out.

  • Got an orbit on Jan 4th. Fantastic! Really good upgrade from Jamin. Then got problems with my MicroSD card - folder name corruptions, then totally lost the card. Internet search reported that a good proportion of all HTC Artemis phones suffer problems like this. Two days later decided to hard reset the phone and start again. Sadly the phone has never completed the reset and I'm now going to have to go through a warranty claim with O2. The phone was bought NEW via ebay, but there's a chance that O2 will not honour its warranty since they didn't sell it direct and I am on a corporate Orange account! Fingers crossed! Oh, and re: warranties on ebay goods...caveat emptor.

  • Hi. I have checked everything on this device, all reviews seem to give it high ratings. However, I only have one question, the processor speed is rated at 200MHz, is it going to be enough to play PocketPC games? some devises have speeds of up to 540MHz...

  • 'J', the GPS is free to use, it does not connect via GPRS or GSM networks. It directly links to the satellites. The GPS is absolutely fantastic on this. I have replaced the co-pilot software with tomtom as I prefer it.

  • i love the orbit the free gps is brilliant. its doesnt cost you any thing to use execpt battery life

  • Are there any ROM upgrade for this phone @ the moment? I'm experience a lot phone lag and have to do at least 1 reset per day since i got it about a 10 days ago. If anyone knows where (if available) to download a new ROM, please kindly post the link here. Thanks

  • Seriously thinking about getting this phone, but got one stupid question that I can't see anywhere... How much does it cost to use the GPS? Is it totally free or is there a pence-per-minute charge?

  • first few days with O2 xda ORBIT went fine. No issues and everyting functioning properly. Problem started after a week when the speaker started malfunctioning. o2 replaced the device after verifying the problem.

  • Hi iam looking to buy o2 XDA orbit... so pls give me some openion about that pls....

  • Can someone recomend gps software for my new orbit. For the us, and how much would it cost? Thanks in advance

  • I am running Tom Tom but it is jerky, is there anything I can do to make it smooth? When I had it on XDA 11i it was smooth as silk.

  • In repsonse to Jay posted on 20th, I think your problem may be not pressing the left hand soft key (next to green answer key). Press this and the top and bottom tool bars appear, tap the top address bar and the keyboard appears so you can input an address. From there it should load. Also the bottom tool bars allow you to navigate from favorites.

  • This is for J I Have the xda Orbit Since Novemberand have no issues with drop calls. I does'nt drash as much eaither With All contracts u have 14days so try it and see

  • pls i need help i need an english version of the manual i got mine in german thak you

  • Hi , I have an xda 11i which is rubbish, keeps crashing, only works some times on blue tooth and most importantly wont voice dial through blue tooth connection so I can't use it in the car, Does the xda orbit allow voice dial (even just a few selected numbers) through a blue tooth head set? and has any one had any problems with crashing?

  • J., Dead right about the XDA IIs. Utter crap. Unreliable. Great as a PDA - MSM is good and WiFi and Bluetooth a bit wobbly (couldn't get a good setup with earpiece without having to reset every time).... Word, Excel, .pdf / powerpoint viewers etc. ALL good. But as a phone......? BLOODY UNRELIABLE!! and therefore worse than useless as you have no way of knowing it's not receiving - without picking it up and examining it. I just couldn't wait until my contract expired and I could shop for something alse. The Sony/Ericsson P990i took my eye but found it to be too fiddly. It lasted a week. Eventually went for the XDA Orbit. [However... with a bit of jiggery-pokery the XDAIIs can be made to behave. You need to update the ROM to the latest version from the O2 website and (preferably install as 'Corporate' - so I'm advised.) Also download and install 'tweaks2k' from pocketgear.com or the handango site. A rather nice chap (Gavin) from the webdevelopers site advised me to do this and eased months of godawful frustration with the XDA kit.] Re. XDA Orbit: Yes, Yes! YES!! Although the memory is much smaller and no longer has easily swappable expansion card, WindowsMobile 5 appears to have addressed the unreliability issues -AND I can finally get Yahoo webmails and IMs :0) -Still fighting with the Copilot SatNav tho' - can't get it to configure at all!

  • Just a new to O2 Orbit, everything is fine, but there is a problem. I can connect to my home wireless network but can't open the web pages. The error message shows "The page cannot be find. Check the name and try again." Is there any setting I have to amend before I try to access internet or MSN with wireless network not GPRS? Any friend could help me? Or my phone is broken?

  • on pdas is there any way to type sms or notes without the stylus i dont use pdas using se p990 wanting to go with this one or flame but one thing though these models r not comfortable carring in your pocket now are the though termed pocket pcs i have always seen them with cases whioch are huge do you carry them in your pockets and this o2 flame is huge.your one hand i think is always full or should i stick with se p990 i dont know but i use more of the phone than other features thanks

  • We have been running XDA IIs' and XDA Execs in our office. these are great as PDA's and for synchronising with an Exchange server, but as PHONES they are totally rubbish. Despite firmware and software upgrades as advised by O2 tech they all drop calls continuously. We are going to change phones in the next couple of weeks because of this, and I am wondering if the issues have been addressed/fixed with the XDA Orbit. It looks great, but if the phone is crap, it just wont cut it with our senior management! Can somone reassure me or at least be honest wioth me about the PHONE performance? I know that the PDA functions and Satnav are great, but does it work as a PHONE? feedback would be extremely welcome on this! Cheers, J

  • get the addapter from the link above

  • I just bought the XDA Orbit and you can get a small addapter so that you can use your 3.5 headphones of your own choice. I love this thing. I had the xda IIi befor this and would not change this phone untill they came out with a smaller and better phone and now its here with the orbit!!!

  • Regarding the question on whether or not there is a charge for using the satnav: the answer is NO. The satnav operates using the built in 'GPS' in the device. This does not cost anything. The only charge would be if you were to update the satellite positions using the 'GPRS' from the handset, this is totally unneccesary as you can download this data when synchronised to a PC (connected to the internet) from the cable supplied. The phone is setup to do this automatically but first time round you will need to do this manually: Connect your handset to a computer with the USB cable supplied, go to 'Quick GPS' and click the dowload button. Thats all there is to it. Each time you connect after that the satellite info will download automatically. (The satellite info needs to be updated at least every 3 days) Hope this helps. For all those who are trying to decide whether or not to get the phone, get it, NOW. It's great. The supplied Copilot 6 satnav is fantastic.

  • My only gripe is that I can't use my decent headphones (with a standard 3.5mm audio jack)as the Orbit has no 3.5mm (or 2.5mm) audio fitting. It confines you to its headset, with mini USB fitting. Also means you can't listen and charge from a supplementary battery pack at the same time. I purchased a mini USB to 3.5mm adaptor from U.S. for a motorola phone, but it doesn't work. If anyone has found a solution (and supplier)that permits the use of decent headphones with the MP3 player and maybe even the built in radio - can they let me know. O2 have been unable to help - both those online and in several shops...!

  • no problems with the orbit,a pleasure to use. only downside is the copilot6 software will not load onto my computer....suppliers have no answer...anyone out there with fresh ideas.

  • im using the lobster 700tv at moment which is a windows mobile5 device,,,anyway my question is that altho it records at qcif it can playback my cif videos off my samsung d600 so what is mobile 5 capable of playing back maximum in both resolution and frames per second,, or is it device dependent ???i like this phone

  • I have a quick question which i am sure is not a great one. Regarding the use of this device for sat nav, using the Tom Tom or other software, does it carry any cost? ie per minute or per use etc. thanks in advance!!

  • Hey, I got it Phil, Thanks a lot. I am using Tomtom 5, All you need to do is to the following setup from the PDA. Step1>Start/Settings/System/GPS/GPS Settings/COM4. Step2>Start/Settings/System/GPS/GPS Settings/COM9. Baud Rate 4800. In Tomtom Settings, in GPS Configuration, Step3> Other Cable NMEA GPS/GPS Baud Rate 4800/COM4. Hope this helps many. Cheers.

  • To: kin kapwan Make sure in your Tomtom GPR settings the GPS device is set to other, and on COMM 4 Hope this helps

  • Hi guys, I am in UK n just bought the Orbit, each time I connect to the Navigation[Tomtom 5], it keeps telling me NO GPS Device!! How to do GPS settings? Which com do you select on the devise? How can I solve this problem? Can anybody tell me how to solve the problem? Thanks Cheers

  • all the b...... i have seen in this blog doesnt make sense. i have had this device for one month and it works perfectly well except for games request juice from the cpu. the people having problem are not lucky or are not computer literate.

  • Hi guy, I am in UK n just bought the Orbit, each time I connect to the Navigation Tomtom 5, it keeps telling me NO GPS Device!! How to do GPS settings? How can I solve this proble? Can anybody tell me how to solve the problem? Cheers

  • Hi guys am in Germany n just bought the Orbit, each time I connect to the Navigation it never works keep telling me NO GPS Device!! how can I solve this problem, or it will say waiting for GPS n it will wait for hours. Thanks Penn u can as well send me email. [email protected]

  • I'm planing to upgrade my account.I'm thinking about Orbit, mini S,and EXCE.Which one is better? I wonder if I choose Orbit, will I be charged when I update the Sat Nav software. Could someone give me some advices? Thank you.

  • Can't see why it would take 5 minutes to send a text message, some people are so negative. Thanks for the tip about updating the GPS and it works too! When the sat nav is working, the bluetooth light flashes so it must be connected to the gps?

  • I work for the mentioned telecommunications company and I can confirm that you get the co pilot satnav software free if you are on a contract of 40 above. 35 p/m and its half price for the software [49.99] but the handset is still free. The only reason you will be told otherwise is if the software is out of stock. I've had the orbit now for a month and its great. One question above states the only charge to do with the sat nav facility is to update the "Quick Gps" facility [updates the phone to the latest satellite positions] An easy way to avoid this charge is set the "Quick Gps" facility to update at every "sync" and always charge your phone via USB i.e every time you charge your phone it will update the log for 3 days free of charge using your pc's internet connection. Also, with regards to texting/e-mail's there is a virtual keyboard which is fine if you are stationary with the stylus, but difficult if you are in motion. If this is a problem, I would suggest the XDA Mini S [or the Zinc soon] for a more sensible typing solution, with the added bonus that you can still add a windows mobile 5 sat nav solution and connect via a Bluetooth GPS receiver [also available from the provider]. But with Satnav in mind, the orbit has a clear advantage, because it doesn't use Bluetooth to connect to a receiver, it is free to be used with a hands free kit alongside your Satnav solution. It also means you only have to charge one device, rather then two i.e GPS receiver and phone.

  • Fabulous device. Don't know what the grudge is against texting .. just find a contact in the address book then tap the 'send text' button and fill in the text. Couldn't be easier or quicker. This is my sixth PDA (psions, palms and ipaqs over the years) - and far and away the lightest, cutest and most versatile. My only criticism is the text size on the screen - getting on in years now and definitely need glasses.

  • when you all get bored of showing yer mates that you have the 'daddy' phone, you will realize that you dont use 70% of the features the phone has to offer and will be well p@@@sed off that it takes 5 minutes to send a simple text message! sorry for being so harsh but it is the truth as i have just changed mine for a regular handset! i will look forward to the responses!!!!

  • Navigator 6 was really slow on mine but people with different WM5 devices said it was slow also. I got Destinator 6 which runs really well.

  • I have had one of these little gems for 3 weeks now and it is perfect for my needs. I have loaded Tom Tom and it works fine although a little jerky, the GPS is on Com 4 which is connected via bluetooth. I believe you will be charged for a gprs connection only when it updates the GPS system every 3 days.

  • Do not get this for texting very slow, i had to send it back!

  • Can anyone answer the questions about texting? I'm considering getting one but I do a lot of SMS ing. How does it work and is it a really slow way of texting?

  • Thanks, I got the GPS working now. I didnt get the GPS software but wasnt to bothered as if you look on certain forums you can find GPS software for free via a crack or keygen which i did.

  • just before i buy one can anyone tell me if it goes into landscape mode whilst on the internet. cheers

  • HI all. im looking at getting the orbitin the next week or so but im not sure on the best site to down load. the tomtom6 software for free......

  • Hi all. For those who aren't aware (sorry for those who are) GPS uses the Global Positioning Satellites circling the earth for deciding your exact location. This is achieved using a satellite receiver which is built into the XDA Orbit. There is no cost for receiving these signals, but you must be in a place to pick the signals up (ie that's usually outside). I was unable to upgrade to the xda orbit with free software with O2 without suggesting that I was going to cancel my contract and start up a new one. At that point they agreed to match the online deal with the free software (I haven't received the package yet so I have yet to confirm that!!). Regards to all.

  • If u connect wirelessly u do not get charged as u are not using the phone network. Can anyone help me with the GPS side of things. I downloaded some GPS software called destinator and it runs on my orbit. However what it wont do is find the GPS signal. In the GPS settings I set my program port to com4 and the GPS software finds the antenna but no signal when setting a route. Do I need to change the GPS hardware settings on the phone (currently set at none). How does GPS connect. Does it use the GPRS or bluetooth?

  • I can clear up the situation about CoPilot. I work for telecoms company. and i ordered one in for a client and was disappointed when no software came however we purchased one and gave it to the customer out of gratitude. But you only get the CoPilot on a new connection with 02 and not upgrades.

  • Hi all, I have just bought one of these. Have I done the right thing? how does the texting work (writing them?) Also I have the free SatNav thing, when using it, does it cost money every time as it is a gprs system? ALSO does it do the same when you wirelessly connect to the net? or can you get around it?

  • This is a great phone and you should get it but also get a memory card for it and the biggest i think you can get is 2Gig so get one of those!!! Install all things to the card!!! Hope this helps

  • I'm new to XDA's and PDA phones but am tempted by the orbit so hoping for a little advice from any kind souls out there. Having compared the voting results (design, features, performance) it appears that the orbit scores the highest of all PDA phones - which leads me to assume that this is one heck of a phone! Does anyone know how the orbit generally compares to other PDA's by other manufacturers? for example, a friend has the orange SPV M600 which he belives is superior to O2 XDA's. (I'm an existing 02 customer so would just upgrade) What do you people think? Is this the creme de la creme of PDA's (not interested in ones with keyboards by the way) or should i consider anything else out there. cheers Mike

  • I guess I can just put tomtom on this if I wish. As the phone is already GPS enables I just need to get the software, correct?

  • I have the O2 XDA Orbit from O2 online. From what I gather some people are getting the free CoPilot satnav software and some are not. I upgraded my phone recently and was told it would include the satnav s\w. However on arrival no bundled satnav software. I called O2 and compalined and they tried to say that I had to pay extra for the software.I was within the 14 day cooling off period and just told them that I wanted to cancel my new contract and send the phone back. They then handed me over to retentions who more or less admitted that they didnt have the software in stock. They offered me a tenner a month off my contract which equates to 120 quid. The software is 99 quid from O2 so result. I then searched the web and found the software for 68 quid. You work it out. Advice: Nag and nag O2 within the 14 days until you get what you want. It works !! The copilot sofware comes on a 256mb mini SD card. However the orbit is micro sd. All you have to do is copy the contents of the Mini SD on to a Micro SD. Besides the 256mb card is useless if you want to use it as an MP3 player. I hooked in a 2gb micro SD and now use it as an MP3 player as well. Pocket PC 5 syncs great with Windows Media Player 11. The sat nav receiver syncs to an online database to get satalite position about sat position. This happens every three days. The idea of this is to give you faster positioning on start up. This will happen over GPRS if you want but if you can also do it over wifi or while your Orbit is connected to your internet enabled PC. If you want traffic updates then this has to happen over gprs as and when they are needed. I hope this clears a few questions for a few of you.

  • Does a virual keyboard appear when you text with this fone???????

  • o2 does not ship with a memory card, they do give free co-pilot software on contracts over 40 though, not tomtom6. 18 month contract at 40 gets you 800 mins and 500 texts plus free weekend calls.

  • Just to let everyone know the xda orbit is free on 35 and above tariff in the o2 shops on a 12 month contract. But i went for the 40 tariff for 500 xnet mins and 100 texts as u also get the co-pilot sat nav software free of charge, which i should get within 5 days to my home address. I am also very impressed with phone, once u get used to the scrolling wheel. Great features. Does anyone know how get free software from the internet? Thanks.

  • no

  • Do o2 supply a micro sd card or not?

  • This handset is amazing if you use all its services unless your wasting your money, extremely good phone would def advise this handset to anyone!

  • What more could you want out of this phone, I add 1 gb micro Sd, and this phone has turning into a MP4/3 player, a very small sat nav with tomtom 6, a pda, a camera, and the size is is too good to have all this function, as long as you close the program proply, the cpu is runing fine. add few more game and softwear, now it's also a game console, bible and ebook.... I had exec before, it's good but too big too use as phone. O2 xda comes with wifi T-moble MDA compact 3 comes with infer Red. why can they come with both....

  • Hi guys\gals :-) I bought one of these earlier and am really pleased so far. I've had the XDA2\XDA2i\XDAs before but I am far more pleased with this one> Its lighter, faster (so it seems), smaller - and a lot of the problems i didnt like about the previous ones have been addressed. However! I have TomTom Navigator 5 and 6 and neither will go onto the device because there isn't enough memory. PANTS!!! . Anyone help with this, I've seen some places say that they have tomtom that fits on a 128mb card. O2 give away the CoPilot software on the website (I didnt get this because I signed up in store apparantly) - so I assume the CoPilot fits onto it without extra stuff??? Thoughts and ideas please!! Thanks Leigh

  • No free Wii at that site!!! Not when you want this phone!!!

  • This is great. It will even better if they add HSDPA, add CPU clock and increasing battery size.

  • It run's better than my exec and as long as you dont fill the internal memory your find it runs great!!! I have managed to freeze mine but that was because i filled the internal memory and when i cleared some space it was running great again!!! If you have found problems with it, thats probably due to over running it but with any pc if you kill the memory you cant do much!!!

  • Filled with great features, pitty it has slow processor. Just wondering this thing do multasking. Superslow, i guess.

  • I think some people say the orbit is much too slow processor to be running mobile 5. What is this about 3 core processor I read few posts back. Never heard such thing. Is this phone freeze up like the atom exec. That phone is such crap with all software problem. I buy my g/f a HTC p3600 and boy is it such nice phone, no problems and fast.

  • To use satnav if free!!! it's like your reading a text message, it's free!!! If you have traffic update then you pay for the info to be sent to your phone!!! Hope this helps!!!

  • I have phoned o2 several times but get different answers each time. All i wanted to know is how much does it cost when im using Sat Nav? I thought it was free but i wanted to be 100% certain, one person at o2 said its 3 per 1mb downloaded, are they getting mixed up with gprs? :s Please Help! Thanks

  • To: MSRn .. You can download software all over the place, on Bittorrent there are even software packs. But you should look for Windows Mobile 5 software when searching on the net. Try this place: Use activesync to install the software. Good Luck. All the best.

  • mXby, sorry mate,if you are less than 70 contract a month, you have to pay for the software and the phone upgrade.

  • to bow....The mighty Xda Flame is coming roll out the red carpet and prepare ....

  • Please help, I am currently having an arguement with o2 regarding what I should have recieved!! I checked out the o2 website to look at the Orbit and decided to upgrade my current phone to it as it had the gps bundle for free. I called there online upgrades (O2 Retention) number and spoke to a guy for about 20 minutes regarding what deal he could do me. I had to pay 99 to upgrade to the orbit (I was 6 months over my 12 month contract so thought they could have done a better deal than this!!) and I was told on the phone this would come with everything I needed and even came with an adapter to fix it to my car windscreen. When the box arrived it is only just the phone and after 5 calls back to O2 they have said they never agreed to send me the sat nav kit. I am waiting for a call from a supervisor on Monday who has apparently listened to the call so I am going to ask for a copy of it because I think I should get what I was promised!! Can anyone helo me with some advise on this as it seems some people have got it and others have not! I am now signed up to the online 25 tarrif for 18 months the same as NickR, and he got his with no hassle it would seem!!!

  • Hi Ive got my Orbit 2 weeks ago, and boy its 9 out of 10. Ive upgraded my contract and got phone for free 500 min 100 text and all this for 30. However I payed 87 for sat nav form internet. The only thing I cant understand how to download some programmes like games, dictionaries etc. Does some one can help me? Thanks

  • The O2 Orbit Review Well, what can I say? It is small and lightweight and has a pack of punch features for its size. I have it for few weeks now and all I can say that it is still improving on what I do. Like all the devices on the market, we want every time better features with it and the one we were looking for is not enough what we expected to have. This is where some will praise the Orbit and some will complain and will never say well about it. All I can say to them develop one yourself and we will criticize your design. It is the power of choice to make when you buy anything on earth and do you have to accept the outcome of the choices you made. Some of you complain about the processor speed of 200 MHz, well it is a 3core processor and it means it can reach the clock speed of 520 MHz. I do Skype on mine and have little difference between the EXEC and the ORBIT. If you did not know about it, be happy to use Skype on it. What is in the box? Power supply, USB cable to synch with the PC, MAC or Laptop Software and Manual WHAT IS MISSING??? A case or pouch So I bought a pouch from the flee market at Charing Cross Station for a fiver that has a nice metal belt clip. This is the TOP Range of XDA with a lot of potential upgrades. The screen scratches easily and a protective layer should be put on before use, why don't they include this in the box. Box lay out is very neat set out like the XDA EXEC. It doesn't come with a car charger and must be bought from another provider or from O2 itself. The wireless connection works great on my network using the Belkin 54g. It is user friendly enough if you worked with the EXEC before and has a good processor. There is no CF Card or a SD card slot but the micro SD card is situated undderneath the SIM card. When I first want to open the Orbit, I did not no that the little lock signature present the open of the back cover. When you want to use the Micro SD card in a card reader to transfer data faster, you have to remove the SIM card before you have access to it. This can be a good reason not to loose the card from falling out if it had a slot on the side. At least the Orbit starts much faster up than the EXEC when you done a soft reset and this are already an improvement for the O2 device. Suggested additional features It did not come with task manager, but I use the setting in Programs to make sure all the programs are shut when I use Skype. There is NO infra red beam to use and I was bit confused to see that when I want to use the Bluetooth, it said beam contacts of file. So that is now sorted. On the Medial Player, when I installed the music on the Micro SD Card, you will not be able to see the Memory card. You have to update the library so it will search for the media files. To use the FM Radio, you have to use the USB Headset. You cant you listen radio then. At least you can use the on screen option to choose the speaker but then you can not play the radio through your speakers of the laptop. May be the USB connection for the headset is better quality, I dont know. Then why couldnt O2 pre-install the Tom-tom software or do they want again to make money on that, yet again, not all like the Tom-tom but prefer Co-pilot or Garmin. Why did they not give a disc with it like they advert on the internet at www.gsmarena.com that the Tom-tom will be included. The screen should be able to change to landscape in more than one way on screen like the EXEC.Larger internal memory to store data like 4gig for recording voice, with a 256meg rom instead of the 128 Meg? Why don't the developers make a back-up system in Programmes for all the settings like the HP Jornada 720? When you have to do systems restore, select the icon in Programmes to have all your previous settings including contacts and email in outlook. Why dont they install the GPRS monitor, Fax facility, Skype, PDF clear view and also a MS Access for a default programmes or even better, what about the full MS Office ? Sorry, but the screen will be too small to edit Publisher. Internet: you can only open one page at a time, why not two to browse between them. Like the XDA have MSN messenger, why not Yahoo messenger with the full settings to add and adjust. If HTC could manufature a sliding keyboard like their other models will a great feature, but you have to deal without it and use the stylus. Hints and tips for other owners I saved all my data, cab files and apps from my EXEC onto the laptop for future use. I bought a 2gig SD card in London and transfer all that info and apps onto it and just click on them to install again them to the Memory Card. The ORBIT is like a cloned version of my EXEC with the same apps I used. The only thing that is missing is a External Keyboard and the Task manager. 1. Make sure you have updated the ROM and save your data on a memory card. Never try to install programmes that are NOT suitable for the device. 2. Buy a protective case like Proporta that you can carry on you, NEVER carry it under your arm. It can be purchased from the internet. 3. Keep liquids away from it and do not take a call outside in the rain. 4. Switch off the wireless and Bluetooth when you are not using it to save on battery power. 5. Do make a back up of all your work on a pc or Mac. 6. Do not try to connect or synch your device to a Palm or Epoc system, it crashes BIG time. 7. Close programmes that are running in the back ground, they use space and slow the system down. To do this, start, Settings, Memory, Running programmes and those you are not using can be stopped. Make sure you have not many programmes running while you do a synch with the pc or Mac. You will loose info while synchronizing the device. 8. To gain more space, delete the sites you have visited at internet settings under menu, options. 9. Do a soft reset after install programmes and when you know you are leaving it over night to charge. 10. Do not transfer too large files like MS Word or Excel to the device, it takes to long to open and wastes space. Rather install programmes on the SD card than on the main memory to gain more space. 11. Only when the instalments refuse on the SD card, install to main memory. Rather use your normal digital camera or video recorder.

  • The phones have built in gps recivers but not software to use it!!! If you want to use it you need software. I have used both tomtom 6 and copilot live 6 and i personaly like the tomtom over the copilot but its personal preferance!!! I dont know about the tracking information but have also woundered the same thing.

  • I will put up a review on tonight. [email protected]

  • i am thinking of getting some xda's for work does anyone know if they work like a tracker as well as sat nav with them having gps recievers in them, i am being told different stories, also i am being told i would have to buy a seperate sat nav for each phone?

  • Lenny, I believe if u use a good ear phone will provide a decent sound quality. I'm not a pro on elec stuff, but i myself use a high end sony ear phone, and it makes all mp3 player upgraded! Actually, i believe u only plugin ur phone/mp3 output to earphone, and 3.5mm should be good enough. u know, u can't expect any THX from a pocket machine since we're still in 2006. ;-p Plus, sound quality depends on sound card. In a machine like this, a on-board sound chip, it would never better than a notebook sound card. Since a notebook sound card usually not as good as those creative, Yamaha, ProTools, we just can't expect it's gonna as good as tho... After all, buy a fanny ear phone, u know, high end Sony, Shure, etc. Try it, u're gonna live what u'll get. ^^ BossaNesta

  • I've been using mine for 2 weeks now and am very happy with it. I charge the batt every night but thats just habbit, truth is that i have forgotten to on a few nights and it have been ok untill the end of the next day but i do change the backlight to low and try not to play too much if i dont need to. You dont get an XDA if you want a week of charge anyway!!! overall the phone is great and the only thing that i dont like is that there is no keyboard!!! (but i do have the XDA Exec and got used to it) The processer is great and i have not had problems with it except with skype but someone said they got it working ok and i havnt tryed it again!!! Hope this helps and enjoy the phone when you get it!!!

  • Does anyone know how good the battery life is between charges? I'd be interested in hearing more experiences with the phone and using it and battery life, etc. Thanks a bunch.

  • Have just ordered my Orbit - and thanks to m9KB regarding the PAC/cancelling advice - I've pretty much halved my monthly bill and got the phone free (but 18 month contract). One question - I'm new to GPS software and see TomTom 6 mentioned - when I look on amazon/ebay I see lots of version of TomTom 6 - what's the box I'm actually looking for? On amazon the price ranges from 60 to 130 across different TomTom 6 products. Johnny.

  • Does anyone know if a mini usb to 3.5mm audio jack converter will actually work to allow decent quality headphones; and a supplier?

  • Also Resco Explorer, Resco Photo Viewer, Resco Radio,Resco Keyboard, Memmaid, SK Tools, Ilauncher.

  • On my exec I have Fizz weather, core media player, morp MP3 player, Pocket Informant, SPB Time, SBSH Diary, Smart Media Player, Cool Camera, Pocket Islam, London Tube Map, Bluetooth sniper.

  • Did you use skype??? I use SPB, so if you have any questions just ask!!!

  • Hi. I got mine today on upgrade for 49 from O2 London. To install Skype direct from the website onto the divice is not so easy.Just use the XDA EXEC settings to install. For those who struggle to do skype on this device,it is VERY easy to install. All you have to do is to copy the latest cab file first on the normal sd card. Then use the card reader to transfere it to the micro sd card.Click on it and install it on the Memory card for installment. When you use it,close ALL other programs via the runnig programs to close. Then open skype like you do normally and walla,it is running. I can't even see the difference between my XDA EXEC and the ORBIT on skype, only the screen is smaller though. So far NO crashes like my EXEC and I notice that you can install all apps on the sd card with no trouble like on the EXEC. The only disadvantage with the content of the box, there is NO pouch or case for it.Have to get a camera pouch for it or modify the EXEC spare one I have. Unluckily the earphones have to be on to use the radio and then you have to choose the speaker to listen. It doesn't come with the TOMTOM software and a friend who has the same unit said it works great with it and is very user friendly. For those who want to ask questions about the software I installed and tested are Mobipocket Reader,Bible Reader,Adobe Reader 2.0, KSE Truefax,Engineering Calculator,Lextionary Words,Pocket e-Sword and then the all rounder user, London Tube Map. I see the camer have more functions than the EXEC,but I still use my Canon for digital photography. What software do you gys and girls use on your pda phones? [email protected]

  • I have been reading that some people had to pay for their handset but I got my XDA Orbit on 12 month contract 35 A month 400 mins 100 texts and the phone was free. When first making enquries they said 100 but this changed a few days later when actually purchasing the phone

  • latest 3g from o2 got to check the bat life though

  • Hi Just upgraded to the xda orbit last week and got the Co pilot Sat nav for free on O2 Max. All looks good except that the Sat Nav software is running really slow, i.e. when driving in the car the road map is showing me still on the previous street when i have already taken the turn. I had the O2 exec previously and ran Tom Tom on it which worked perfectly fine. Anybody else experiencing similar problems or is it working fine. Thanks Shazad

  • After reading these posts Im confused. I just bought my o2 Orbit for 100 and the guy said it does not come with the satnav software - have I been ripped? If so, how do I go about getting my software?

  • o2 live in boxes do they? if you dont like what you are charged then go elsewhere (and then have the same problem the year after) complaining on here isnt going to get you anywhere. they are not there to give the world to you for free - making money is the point so pay or up or move on like others do. moaning on a website isnt going to change the mind of the powers that be...get a life or some money

  • I refuse to sign an 18 month contract. Whats the deal with o2 data charges? I have been getting unlimited free Internet for about 2 years now.

  • All networks will try to keep you within reason. They are not going to give everything for nothing all the time. They want to keep you spending the most you can and giving as little as possiable, and then if you kick off they will give you a little something to keep you sweet. If you spend naff all they'll do naff all.

  • So the guy from O2 didnt call me so i called again and spoke to a really nice woman who spoke to her manager. She called me back and after a chat she had with her manager I now have Co-pilot software on its way to me!!! She also gave me 1 month free data (unlimited) for all the problems. I asked her how come she sorted it so easy and she said that her manager could see what happened and did the right thing!!! I with other luck and hope to hear about other people who got what was promised!!!

  • ok BATGIRL, so why?, when i cancelled with vodafone and told them i was porting my number to o2 , they suddenly decided that they didnt want me to leave and that they would lick my ba**s if i stayed with them ! The point is that if they spent less time pi**ing people off at the end of their contracts ( and therefore losing them) they wouldnt have to spend money on 'free extras' to woo new customers!

  • UPGRADE.. doesnt really mean upgrading.. its just signing a contract for another 12 or 18month.

  • Mr D read my post, all networks do it. they give phones free with free headset or a free printer or something free to get new people to join.

  • You people have to realise that o2 and any other network is a business and the whole point of been in business is to make money! They give handsets free to new customers to get more custom. If your upgrading and you don't spend much then more than not you would have to pay for a new handset, if is a really good deivice. Hipposniffer, you realised this when you were going to leave o2 they were going to charge you for the handset and it would be the same if you were with any other network. Networks arn't going to give you a free phone every year, unless the phone isn't that great and unless you spend loads of money with them. At the end of the day they just want to make money out of us and thats how it works. The more you spend the more phones you can have free and if you spend pennies you get naff all! So just cancel and get a new contract and stop whinning.

  • i know imagine talking about a phone on a mobile phone website,

  • The Phone I have been very impressed with the phone, was a bit worried about it only having a 200 MHz processer as I also have the Exec which is 520 MHz. The only thing that I cant run on it is skype and thats because of the processor. The camera is great as its 2mp. Wi-Fi works great. Bluetooth does whats needed. Not having a keyboard is annoying but as I have the Exec I was spoiled with a good size one. Software add-ons that have been done by O2, there is a today page add-on that will give you info about the battery, memory and memory card. The jog dial and tracker ball take a bit of playing with but am happy with it, I dont use the mouse function as I couldnt get on with it! Hope this helps, if you want anything specific just as!!! One more thing, why didnt they put infer-red on it???

  • Who cares about your service provider! Talk about the Orbit. How well does the phone work. Can anyone tell me if this is a good product?

  • My bills are not cheap and they told me I'm in the high teir of spenders, so they want to keep my business!!! Point is that they sold the product on the basis that it had satnav, the least they could do is give me the satnav as promised!!!

  • Lol - put your hands in your pockets!! When you signed your contracts with O2 did it say on your contract that they would promise you a free O2 orbit when it was released or a free upgrade? That "free" upgrade is decided on how much you spend a month, why should you recieve a "free" Orbit and Sat nav if you are on a low monthly tariff? I paid 100 for mine! Still happy with that as I appreciate what I'm paying for, no tantrums needed!!!

  • sorted - the manager phoned back and having listened to the recording of the phone call agreed to send out the sat nav. Jason, you have to perservere - i think they rely on most people giving up. I did phone them again this afternoon and they made another note. that's when the manager called back this evening.

  • Hi Carl, the moaning is about the fact that some people are getting the orbit with sat nav and some aren't. Your deal sounds great, and if o2 offered that to me i would be happier. Instead my upgrade has been 99 for the orbit, no sat nav, 750mins for 17.50 a month on an 18 month contract. its the way o2 are giving out different deals that confuses and annoys me!

  • i dont know what you are all moaning about i upgraded to the orbit last week 300 mins 300 texts 15 a month and the orbit free with the sat nav, on an 18 month contract. i find o2s up grades to be the best around i have been with them for two years and think they offer a great service. orbit is pretty good too!!!!

  • after having a day to think about o2 's outrageous demands for a supposedly FREE upgrade to an orbit from my mini s, i have decided to say bo@+*cks to em and go back to vodaphone!! BUT, just as i was going to pick the phone up and let o2 HAVE IT !!i remembered why i went to o2 in the first place! It was because vodaphone did exactly the same when i wanted an upgrade with them. (joke upgrade demands) The funny thing was that when i got my PAC code off them and said my farewells ,every day for the following week ,they called me to beg me to stay! SO what am i to do? cos they are ALL the same at the end of the day ! T***S ! RIGHT i have had my rant now !

  • Is the Orbit Bluetooth v.2? Does it support A2DP? One review stated it didn't but a user guide said it did.

  • I just upgrade my phone, here is the story, o2 say if I wanna upgrade my phone, I need to pay 199.99, plus 45 a month, for 12 month, and because I am select customer, they offer me just 35 for 12 month. I said you must be joking, I like to have my PAC number please. and after the long discution. I end up paid 99.99 for the phone, and every month I have 500 min, 100 text and only 17.50 a month for the next 12 month. no softwear tho. but never mind, coz I can get cheap softwear on ebay. and I only paid 310 for total plus a softwear. no bad. so guys, please tell them you like to disconnect or PAC number, other wise , o2 will never ever give you a good deal. and that's how I get my good deal every year with o2. because at the end of the day, there is too much comptition, as customer, we reaaly need to compaer the price before we get rip off.

  • tomtom nav 6 does work u just need to fibble in the gps settings of teh phone u need to change the software port to com4 and the hard ware port to none but change the baud rate to 9600 and in access check the box to automaticly manage gps after i did that in tomtom select other nmea gps reciver and com4 then wait u need to be out side really to allow a good reception. have fun hope that helps

  • no infrared port on it tomtom nav 6 not compatible (according to tomtom) but managed to get it to work. aprat from that a well rounded product

  • Heres the latest all people looking for the Orbit. Just spoke to O2 and was put to there retentions dept and was told that I have to still have to 99.99 for the upgrade and on top of that wait for it, if I want the 'FREE' sat nav software I would have ordinarily have to pay an additional 99.99 but as I am select customer they will give me 25% discount......what a bunch of ??????? o2 just dont know how to keep their customers happy and keep them with o2, it appears that they would rather let their customers go elsewhere.

  • Even if you get an orbit with out Co-Pilot is GPS already enabled? Meaning you just need to get the Navigation software. I can get Tom Tom quite easily just wanna know if I would need a GPS reciever or not?

  • Hi hipposniffer, I too have had the same argument with o2 and is on-going. To make matters worse when I went on their website they are offering the Orbit on a simlar contract to mine and for a new customer they can by the phone for 59.99. Now bearing in mind I am existing customer they still wanted to charge me 99.99, can some PLEASE tell me where is the logic in that ???? To me it's seems that o2 dont give a damn about there existing customers and just have a "we don't care" attitude !!!

  • o2 are very sneaky. I have exec and they mentioned I could get an upgrade. Not really interested in orbit but may see what they say to me if I ask for it for free with the GPS software. O2 usually are quite good with me when it comes to upgrade. They gave me the exec free and that was upgrading from a Sony Ericcson S700.

  • Thanks for the info Jason - I have been looking into it a bit more and it seems that o2 could be in trouble from the 1968 trade descritions act and also the 1973 sale of goods act. Basically i was ready to quit o2 when they offered me the orbit, with its built in sat nav. The guy on the phone directed me to the o2 site where it said free tom tom (this has now changed to co-pilot). Now o2 are saying that website is for new subs only and they won't budge. I'm waiting for a call back too, seeing as they want to lock me into an 18 month contract... I will be talking to trading standards in the morning.

  • has anyone try the t mobile mda compact 3? coz it's the same phone and with better deal at www.mobileshop.com next week when my contract finish, I am going try to upgrade for free from o2, if O2 wont let me, I will sign the new contract with t mobile instead.

  • spoke to o2 today to try and upgrade my o2 mini s for the orbit! was promised a FREE upgrade at the end of my mini s contract so thought the orbit was the natural successor! they said it would be 99 to upgrade to the orbit!!! i reminded them of my FREE upgrade offer i had in writing, only to be told that it only applied if i accepted an inferior phone to my mini s!! so basically after 12 months you get a FREE DOWNGRADE!!! someone please tell me whats that all about?? its like trading your 3 year old bmw in for a 'NEW 'fiat panda !!! what a JOKE !!! was getting very excited about the orbit especially when i saw 'FREE co pilot software' advertised on their wesite but having reading some of the comments below i am not sure whether this is the case either?? sort it out ay!!!

  • if all fails we should send in letters to O2 and set up some sort of website pointingout the lies they tell to get you to sign up!!! If things go wrong - your guide to making a complaint

  • O2 websit the states - With a built-in GPS system and free CoPilot Satellite Navigation sotware you'll be sure to stay on course whether in the car or on foot. and at the top of page in big font:- Free CoPilot SatNav software worth 99.99 Built in GPS and WiFi 2 Megapixel camera Keep your mobile number Free standard delivery But as we spoke to them over the phone and they live in boxes and never look at the web they cant see this!!! Still waiting for a call!!!

  • OK, so the story so far in my fight with O2 and the satnav But first, the leather case, they sent me the case for the XDA EXEC which is my other phone and when I called them they said there was no case for the orbit yet, so with a bit of a fuss and mention about the satnav and the promise of them both O2 said they will give me one month free rental so I can get my own case, and at a saving of 40 on my bill I wasnt going to argue!!! Back to the sat nav, Thursday night spoke to a nice guy who was trying to help as he thought it came with the software and he tried to send it to me but with no luck, so he was going to call me back on Friday with a solution, guess what, still no call back!!! Spoke to a guy today (who gave me 40 credit, whos name is Frances) and he said he can see the note but it still cant be done, so I kicked up a fuss (all the time telling him that I dont blame him as he was trying to help, keeps them on your side) and he spoke to him manager who will call me in the next 24H but will believe it when it happens!!! If I can get them to credit my account as they have miss-sold a product I will be happy, but the software would be nicer!!! I will keep you posted on what happens when (if) I get my call back. I will get the guys name and a way to call him if it works and you can also speak to him!!! Hope this helps!!! Jason Billyack

  • Still not having much luck with the sat nav saga - o2 are giving nothing away, even when they have sold it 'with sat nav'. I am still talking to them about possible breaches in the sale of goods act and the trades descriptions act, to see what can be done. Jason Billyack - how did you get your case? they aren't sending one out to me... as for the phone - it seems ok but i don't want to get too attached as it might be going back...

  • Just seen the XDA Flame due out in 2007. This better get a UK release.

  • This phone does not come with an infrared port.

  • Just so you all know, TOMTOM does not allow transfer of is software from one handset to another, hence why you activate it from the handset? Bad show on TOMTOM part as handsets change so often. I spoke to tomtom direct who said "Licence is for a single handset use only and is non-transferable" Suggest you think about this point before buying your sat nav software, Other providers do allow transfers as you licence the software not the handset! I found this out to late.

  • Hi all, Been using the 02 Orbit with copilot sat nav for about a week, I must say "Best all rounder" i've used, Was a Nokia comunicator fan for years, Have had TomTom on PDA's and communator (via bluetooth GPS) then switched to wayfinder sat nav (tomtom didn't work onthe 9300i). Was sold the Orbit as part of a business package which meant I had to pay extra for the CoPilot software, Couldn't really find a already tested alternative anyway. However, what a unit, GPS is spot on and fast connection, WAP, push e-mail, phone, texts, Office really can't fault it, Hand a qtek 9100 for two days, took it back couse battery would run out after two hours, The orbit has yet to let me down. If you want a good all round unit I'd say o2 with the design changes have nailed this one smack on. As for the copilot GPS, TOMTOM has the best menu and user functions, but copiolt once used is easy and quick.

  • I currently have an xda IIi with TomTom sat nav 5 on a pre-loaded 1 gb sd card.is there any way to transfer this to a mini-sd card or otherwise get the st nav kit onto the orbit? also, I've been shafted by the excessive data charges on o2; is there any way round this with the orbit package?

  • hi there - it looks like a a great phone. as o2 will charge me 99 for the nav softwtare with no chance of negotiation. does anyone know what alternatives there are and how much they are? help appreciated.

  • can anyone tell me if this phone is available in black.

  • I orderd mine today and was told on the phone that it would come with tomtom 6. can anyone tell me if this is the full software or just a taster. the guy on the phone didnt seem to know. Thanks

  • I'm gonan wait for the XDA Zinc in January. I like my XDA Exec more than the orbit.

  • Hi guys, please see the below regarding the Orbit when bought in an O2 store this is causing some confusion. O2 Stores Basically the phone is only free on tariffs over 70. The Sat nav software is free if the tariff is over 40. If the customer wants the sat nav and they dont qualify for it FOC, they have to pay 49.99 as per belows chart. The advert in stores show the devices comes with the Co-Pilot sat nav kit, but there is a little * after this quote. Pricing Tariff CoPilot Price 20/mth 49.99 25/mth 49.99 30/mth 49.99 35/mth 49.99 40/mth 0.00 50/mth 0.00 70/mth 0.00

  • confused, does this phone come with GPS software? O2 online says Free CoPilot SatNav software worth 99.99. Look at this link : Anyone who got the phone, please confirm.

  • Not too impressed so far - feel i've been ripped off with the 'free sat nav' sales pitch - there is no sat nav with the package. Also, no case either. Seems to be less user friendly than my old xda, so i will be taking it for a test drive and may send it back...

  • I work for O2 so I've used all of the Xda's apart from the 1st and I'd say thats its got the best sound quality as a phone out of all the uk released Xda's. Comparing it to other handsets I'd say that the sound quality is still not on par with a "normal" handset. Ive got a Sony K800 and a W950 and its not as good as the K800 but better in call quality than the W950. Using it as a phone always takes a bit of getting used to, but it has a virtual keyboard which is brought up with one touch of a button and you can use your fingers to dial the number. It has smart dialing that recognises the number you are typing in and lists all possibilities in a box, tap one of these entries and it dials the entry straight away. Bringing up the contacts is a one button press, scroll to the contact and press dial, no diff then using a normal phone. I had the Xda mini S as my own handset and I'd say that the Orbit is better to use as a phone than that, just because of the feel, slimness and smaller size. It no real size difference than the W950 This isnt written as an O2 employee selling their phones, just someone who is lucky enough to "really" try the phones before I buy them.

  • Leaving the PDA part aside for the moment....to use as a phone - is it as good as a normal mobile? Is the ring volume loud? Is it clear when speaking and also listening? What about the speaker phone - is it loud and audible? How does the overall phone functionality compare to standard mobiles?

  • Quality has been pretty good so far. Not alot of moving parts so no flimsyness there. The only bit that is a bit annoying is the battery cover is a bit flimsy but I feel if thats all you can pick up then youre looking for problems. Seems to be running ok too but for the last two days I've only run it as a pda and phone, I've not installed any thing demanding. No soft reset yet!!

  • What is the phone quality like on the Orbit? I had an XDA for a while last year and it wasn't any good.

  • Where is the Ir port??? Can't find it on the ordit and in the user manual says nothing about Ir??? Please help!!!

  • ohh I can't return my w950s and we have 2 of them. You are right. I sit in my car and can't even see the screen to make a call. Is the O2 orbit really slow speed. My o2 atom exec was fast enough but kept freezing every 1/2 hour. They couldn't fix it so refunded me.

  • Yeh as much as it hurts me to say it, the W950 isnt good at all. A great idea but the screen is sooooo washed out in daylight. I took it back and picked this up. Enjoying as far!

  • Some say the speed of the Orbit is ok. I had the new Atom Exec with 512Mhz and it lagged sometimes. So the Orbit must be much worst. What a beautiful looking phone though. I have the Sony W950 for 2 weeks now. What a useless peice of junk, the keypad is flush and very hard to use. I'd buy the Orbit but afraid it might be too slow, can't even run skype on it.

  • free sat nav ??

  • I have just opened the box to find that the o2 xda orbit does not have a case with it, i called them and they (after some time) are sending me out a free case. I am waiting to speak to the guy at o2 who told me about the tomtom6. So far system seems to run at a good speed but havent got it running fully loaded as i dont have the transflash card yet. Anyone know of good software, I use SPB at the moment but am looking for other kl things!

  • Right..... The Xda Orbit does not come packaged with any form of GPs software in the UK. This means that if you buy or upgrade to the Orbit you will not receive it inside the Orbit box. O2 offer a software package called Co Pilot for a maximum of 99.99, if you are on a higher monthly tariff then there is a discount scale for this software. The Co Pilot package is only available for purchase at select O2 stores, all other stores will have to order it through "Accessories Direct" which is an internet based order system (you pay instore) and the software package will be delivered to you. You do not "have" to buy Co Pilot but you do have to equip the Xda Orbit with some form of PPC based Gps software. I am running Tom Tom 6 quite happily

  • Does anyone know whats the largest micro sd card you can fit in it, i know that some pda's are limited to 1gb, anyone know whether this can withstand 2gb, thanks

  • i am gettig 1 of these phones soon they sound awsome but how much does it cost to get the tomtom put on it

  • I spoke to a person from o2 shop today, he told me that if I wait it til jan, I wont pay as much as 99.99 for upgrade, and I might get half price discount on the monthly payment.

  • Just spoke to o2 UK and they are asking 99.99 for the upgrade and on top of that they have advised that is does NOT come with Tom Tom software. Any comments on this ??

  • I have the O2 XDA Orbit and would like to know if the GPS works in the US?

  • The orbit does come with sat nav its only free with sat nav on some deals. Not every one wants Sat Nav so to help with costs you don't have to pay for the extra software. If you already have software you can run it on the Orit. It does have GPS on all Orbits just not the sat nav software. Ditto with Wifi It can use WiFi for VOIP but dosnt come with it onboard.

  • Darren the MDA III compact doest NOT have Wifi... be warned

  • I like the exec however dont have any sat nav so not sure how it runs on the exec.

  • I was thinking of getting one of these from T-mobile (I know it's the MDA III but it's the same phone). I've had the same contract with o2 for 10 years and but I'm getting fed up with the data charges and suspect they'll go through the roof with a phone of this style. T-mobile offer "unlimited" data for 7.50. Does anyone know if o2 have something similar in the pipeline, or could you share your download costs on similar devices?

  • jbillyack & mojo: no one at o2 seems to know much about the orbit. i've just spoke to tech support and they have told me that the orbit doesn't come with GPS software (either tomtom or copilot) and that you have to buy it seperately. bit miffed about that really! mojo, where did you hear about the copilot software? do you have anymore info?

  • if you wait o2 are giving you free CoPiot sat nav software, worth 159.99. which will make your tom tom work. I dont think it will work without this,

  • I just ordered mine and i should have it in about a day or two. Was told that it does have tomtom6. Will let you know if they lied!!!

  • Stubtoe - O2 stores were not allowed to sell them on Friday due to an error with the pricing . The till systems were saying it was free to everyone

  • Mant: Got it direct from my local O2 shop on Saturday morning. I tried to get in on Friday night but even though they had them in stock they wouldn't give me one. I haven't used Skype much before so wouldn't know about that sorry. Is it worth installing and if so do you need a PDA version? It doesn't seem that sluggish at all, better than the O2 mini s, but as before it does slow down when a lot of applications are open.

  • @ stubtoe: Could you let us know where you where able to buy the handset from in the UK? Was it direct from o2? Also have you tried Skype on it at all, what's the overall performance of the phone like, is it sluggish? The 200Mhz worries me a bit on this phone.

  • Just got one yesterday. Great phone/pda. Had the mini s b4 and this is much better as its just a lot smaller and fits in my pocket better. One problem though. Its marketed by o2 as having 'GPS' yet it doesn't come with the tomtom software that the germany o2 orbit does. Why not??? Why can't o2 UK include this rather than us having to buy it seperately...

  • Only avail on contract - As much as 239.99 to free. 35 a month tariff gets the phone for 50

  • Great phone, just a shame its not 3G, would have made it one of those all rounders!

  • Arriving with O2 stores end of this week, I've seen my delivery sheet, said it was dispatched on the 22nd Nov!

  • Hi Khalid I'm looing to get the XDA Exec, would you recommend it? And do you use it with any SatNav software and if so how well does it work? Any advice would be greatly appreciated it. Thanks.

  • I have the XDA exec and not sure if I should upgrade to the orbit. The XDA Zinc is ot in January and I like the look of that. The lack of procesessor power puts me off the orbit, considering my exec has a 520 mhz engine.

  • Think long and hard about choosing O2 over Eten X500 or the Asus P535! Some will tell you this O2 is pretty nice and perhaps that O2 fan can be satisfied with its adequate hardware meeting their current average use. However, as someone else had reviewed and was honest enough to allude to the HTC's poor battery selection for things like wi-fi and its mediocre 200Mhz not being suited for multitasking apps, the rest of us who will need more power can look over to other choices like the mentioned Eten Glofish X500 with a better 400Mhz processor (without overclocking) and 1530mAh battery or the Gigabyte g-Smart i300 with a 520Mhz processor, 256MB memory (double the amount of its competitors Orbit and X500) and supposedly has a spare battery included. Though specs are specs, will wait for head to head comparisons like that benchmark on and then can decide. Oh yeah, you might at first be attracted to that cute glowing RollR (TM) trackball that O2 and HTC are marketing but again over time will you really be up to maintaining its cuteness. Now if only the Eten Glofish M700 (X500 with qwerty keyboard) rumours were true and available now for review ...

  • Over the months i've swung from BENQ P51 > HTC P3600 then finally settling on the ETEN X500, then just as the handset comes available at Expansys I stumble across this gem! After a few mins surfing I found a great comprehensive review on the Orbit for anyone interested in reading up on this device and its performance. Link> Overall a great review with pics and hardly any mention to its lack of performance, it seemed to handle GPS tasks very well, expected bad camera performance and great battery life. Sadly the 200mhz puts me off a little (is that 200mhz 3 core CPU post on page 3 a joke or fact?)and the review doesn't cover Skype usage, no mention of it in the applications screenshot in the ;inked review either so it might not be an embedded application. Again im torn between phones, what with the new Orange M700 also 'coming soon' and Orange France claiming it has GPS enabled. If this is true I could be swinging again over to the M700, else I'll live without Skype and go with the Orbit.

  • Is it worth to buy Orbit. Please give me feedback on the performance. please

  • What the function of GPS in Orbit.

  • Don't judge the processor speed too soon!! Intel PXA 270 @ 520Mhz not necessarily faster than TI OMAP 850 @ 200Mhz (higher clock speed = shorter battery life) We will have to see the working phone to know, but having lived with the unltra-slow Nokia N73 I would have preferred more spped and less battery life myself. Certaily looks better than the HTC P3300

  • Tnks UPDAQuest, I think E-Ten X500 run on 400MHz while Autom Exec is running on 520MHz! that was my question on this Orbit. However, Alan is right, why didn't PDA companies produce what the user like us want?? like 256K colors, 3. Mpixel cam, 1.3 GHz speed, 4GB external mem extendable and the internal mem should at least 1GB and above!!! I know some time we go no choice but take all these scraps use for tem..

  • O2 are still saying sometime in november.

  • This looks like a great phone and im looking forward to getting mine. Be good to see how good the tomtom 6 is.

  • If you want to watch videos buy a dvd player. Its a phone and i cant remember one like it. Ive the mini s and its got to be the next step

  • it has the chip you are talking about

  • I've got into reading ebooks on my XDAII. Has anyone tried using these smaller screens for this - is it useable?

  • Anyone know what type of GPS receiver it has ? sirf star iii I hope !

  • is there a large difference between intel and texas chipset? is it like comparing intel to amd...?

  • why o2 cant be creative?too stupid comes out with same features of the previous one...?let me tell u guys wats ppl really want for a pda phone, basic things you should hav atleast 256k pixel color...so you can hav a nice watching movies on it...cameras should be atleast 3.0pixel above...as nowaday normal hp also have atleast 3.0 pixel cameras, such like nokia n80,sony ericsson k800i...etc the ram and the rom should be more expended as we might need to download some other software which need huge processor to run it smooth.. 3g is also a basic tool for a pda phones, you cant jsut ignore it b'cos less ppl use video's calling.... radio and mp3 feature is also the basic 1 that you have to be...as you did have in the handset,it's a good start...brabo.... last but not least, the handset should able to support more than 4gb external memory expend....even internal memory shouldnt be less than 2gb.... above the basic requirement is based on the demand of true pda user...who is really fully use of a real pda handset...and i'm the one of the real pda user...until now...non of the o2 pda suit me...dont misunderstanding...i did used o2 pda b4...but just not satisfied... i hope o2 company shoulddo some research on wat really a pda should need and wat satisfies customer... finally,i would like to say,o2 pda phones is very popular among other pda company,i b'lif it will be the most famous 1 if they can archieve the basic requirement,atleast...as i mentioned above.... thank you (a guy whose change 4 handphones every years)

  • I work for o2 and think this phone looks cool

  • I just wondered for those of you using handset for VOIP services , Do you not find the data charges really heavy for streaming voice calls, and allot of networks restrict the use of their data bundles so your unable to use skype etc , anyone had any problems with this ??????????

  • This is an almost perfect the device, the look, the specs (GPS that's what i need), and who needs 3g it's just pounds sucker! Wifi b/g will do the task! Maybe preinstalled skype and 1.800 mAh will just make this thing a bloody perfect.

  • see the processor, one is texas, one is intel. read properly!

  • Sovann, that is a question that others like E-Ten has an answer. Like P%km says, E-Ten offers you another choice! The newly announced E-Ten X500 will have both integrated WiFi b/g and SiRF Star III GPS along with 400Mhz Samsung processor, bluetooth, FM radio, EDGE, quadband phone, 2Mp camera, and 2.8" inch touchscreen of the M600 and G500 predecessors in a slimmer form factor that includes a 1530mAh battery! For those interested in skype this is clearly a better choice.

  • I reckon it is a better performer based on it's ability to take on CDMA perhaps? Not sure here

  • I am really interested in how well it works with skype, because of its slow processor.

  • Looking good but why ORBIT has only 200MHz while ATOM EXEC is running 520MHz??!!?? It is very hard to make decision?? Any one can explain this? Please????...

  • I don't understand how come the O2 Orbit can have a better performance than the exec when it has slower processor and less ROM. Thank you in advance if someone could explain.

  • Has anyone compare this model to the new Eten-X500. It has a 400mhz processor, gsm quad band, gps, wifi, FM etc.. sorry no G networking

  • This phone it is probably one of the best PDA phones I came across. Some of you ask for a keyboard, I dont think that this is essential as the stylus can do the job. This way the phone is thinner and lighter. Those they say it will be slow, I just wait. Are you going to use the phone the radio and the GPS simultaneously, I dont think so. One disadvantage is that its not 3G but a lot of people they do not require it anyway. Finally the only thing that bothers me, like all PDAs, is the Battery life. Why can they master the Sony Ericsson P990 technology with the Standby time of 400h and Talk time of 9h?

  • waiting for the answer to"does it have a keypad"would be great if it did...

  • so does that mean that the XDA 2s is still the fastest since its a 400mhz?

  • I wonder why O2 only released few 3G Phone??? I guess their departement of development not too aware with public demanding afterall....

  • I've waited for a very long time for Such phones, I Wud want this Phone wiz 400 Mhz and 3G ~ ;)

  • Has it got a keypad?

  • Just spoke to O2 - its coming out in the UK 27th November (if there arent any delays). Just looking for a viable alternative to the P990i which is taking ages for O2 to release.

  • casue its a 3 core 200mhx processor.. meaning.. it can actually handle 3 instructins per clock cycle, making it equal to a 600mhz intel chip ;) clever, no ;) and either way.. even a 200mhx intel chip would be fin, your not trying to contorl a space shuttle, just dam well store contacts and make phone calls for peets sake :P

  • Why would they put a 200mhz processor in a new model. O2 seem to do this quite a bit, check out the processors in the last models, they go up and down in processor punch, very weird.

  • just wanna say... cool design...

  • Becasue they are not made by o2. Just branded

  • I think this phone sounds great - does anybody know if it is being launchd in the UK and if so when.

  • Well well well not 3G and a very slow processor. I always thought technology moves forward not backwards. It will very interesting to see how the battery consumption will be using the radio and GPS!!!!!!!!!!! Anyway the upside is we will get it with O2 active software ha ha that should really slow things down

  • Why doesn't O2 include 3G in any of their PDAs?

  • a phone on my kind, great phone i think... loving it..

  • can't compare with SE990i dy, bcoz this phone is not 3G phone...i think it's going for the lower market..

  • The phone sounds great..but does anyone know when is the exact release date?? i'm really looking forward to it..

  • Still not a 3G phone.

  • what? it's not a 3G phone? huh? kidding or what?

  • Weight is 140 grams. ;) The CPU speed like the HTC p3300 is still too slow at 200MHZ. Wish they would up it to at least 400, oh well.

  • The last post was by me :) I am still searching to find out about the weight of this phone.

  • Ok found out that the processor's speed is 200MHZ which is very disappointing for a phone like this. You would think that the speed would be at least 400Mmhz if not more. The Skype would not work very well with 200. 2 thumbs down on that note. I am torn in deciding which phone to get but the Orbit seems like it is the closest as far as having all the neccessary ingridiants. The GPS availability is great however, not having 3G will leave one something to desire for. Outside of that, the phone seems to be at the top of it's class.

  • This phone is smaller and slimmer than the Qtek s200. However not sure about the weight. Conventional wisdom would say it's less than the Qtek 150 gram. Also what I like to know is what's the MHZ speed. is it 200 MHZ? It needs to be 400 or better since anything less creats jams, lags and mis connections. Also the price would be nice to know.

  • so pretty in all black colour. but don't know how it's work. more better or less or just like that.

  • dis toy is gone rock d gadget world... simply awesome , stunnig beauty nd gr8 features.. kool i m surely gone buy it.. fm it's gone b main feature buisness as well as fun. fukin crazy stuff.........
