Yep, I also upgraded to Wave... mainly display is better ;-) otherwise, i560 is still in "as new" condition and comparable in features and design ;-) This is the first time I switched phone to a new one with some mixed feelings!

460kbps is theoretical limit set on modem properties and/or reported by a connection driver. Maximum speed using EDGE I achieved is about 256kbps. For 3G network it's better, but I haven't done any specific testing, EDGE is sufficient for my needs.

Sorry, but I must beg to differ. I have had my Samsung i560 for about 3 years now, I kid you not, to this very day it still has the original battery it came with, and lats about 5 days straight without so much as a single charge!! Reviews everywhere else that I have read about this phone say the same thing - BRILLIANT battery life! Honestly, the battery Samsing put in this phone deserves a class of it's own, (how about the 'Super Battery'?!? Haha!) :) I hope this helps anyone out there who might be considering this phone.

Got it for a year now. Great audio, but limited output, use Koss or Senn. Use of memory card 8GB is no problem, works also as mass storage, hot swap available. Build quality excellent (still as new), camera pathetic (but I'm used to Zeiss glass ;-), Display under sunlight unusable. GPS sometimes ok, sometimes muted. I bought recently in outlet Nokia LD-4W and connected it, now that's another story -- battery life ok, 8 hours running GPS no problem, every lock under 1 minute. Symbian S60 is nice option, but supplied PC Suite works only with Samsung, for Nokia you have to run another O/S profile with *their* PC Suite (they do not coexists). Sadly no WiFi :-( Sadly some connectors are on side - problem finding car holder. Battery life adequate (about 3 days), but watch for bluetooth connections - I suspect sometimes paired devices sucks out life of battery! Charging when connected to USB (but only on 100mA). Nokias of my friends lost a lot of painting in the meantime, and HW platform is the same, maybe better (see pdadb.net). Opening cover is a story of itself (search posts for "Good luck"). Most usefull postings: PC Suite, removing battery cover -- THANK YOU A LOT.

The phone is rather good hardware wise, although the Symbian OS is one of my big gripes. First of all, it isn't the easiest beasty to work with, as it is very different to other phone operating systems. The OS has major glitches in it, such as not searching for files when you want to, opening the wrong menu option, annoying things like that. There is no delete all function for the SMSs, so if you recieve a lot like me, and find yourself needing to delete all of them, you will be there for a while doing that. The phone also has the problem of never deactivating its off button, so if it is in your pocket, and accidently hits something, the phone will turn off, regardless if the buttons are locked. The battery case is difficult to remove at first, but wears down once you have taken it off a few times. Also some of my files have corrupted while being on this phone, and I never unsafely removed the phone from the computer. It also has a tendency to run out of RAM rather quickly, so you will be rebooting the phone quite often. Other than that, the camera is good, it has a good screen size, the keypad is the best that I have ever used, and the GPS is extremely accurate, but not exactly fast for finding a satellite. I would possibly buy another Samsung, but not with the Symbian OS

phone is graet the gps does take long to connect but i found that if u leave the phone outside while its searching for the satelite it connects almost instantly!however it does take long when u driving!

I have put an 8GB sandisk memory card in my i560 and it works flawlessly. I have heard many others say that 8GB works fine in theirs too. I couldn't tell you if it will take anything larger...

you can close the gps from the program(both garmin and route 66)but i always do a restart justin case, but the battery life is bad if you use it only as a phone it will last for 2-3 days but if you use the programs or games it might die within one day.but the good thing is that is hard as a rock drop it many times & still works

stay away of buildings to get a good signal when it starts after that it does not lose it easily or if it does it recconects.it works well as a gps but the antenna is not that strong.i use the garmin programm & i am pleased till now.i think its a good phone bu it gets stuck sometimes.you also have to get the gps signal to work because sometimes it doesn't work automatik.i hope i've helped.

Fantastic handset. Instant/Very Fast Operating System. GPS picks up satellite in under 2min. Camera is extremely well in day , very hard for focusing night shots of course but still very well. Sturdy housing , have accidently dropped it numerous times and have not had to repair once. Available at Dick Smith Electronics for $230. Everything you need for small price!. No complaints at all. :)

The handset is well built indeed, but that's about it really. I own it for one year now and it only makes me angry (soon going to replace it). I have spent endless hours trying to fix/set-up the GPS, I am telling you it never worked properly. Usually it gives you a sign that it is waiting for a better satelite signal and it does so for ever. I have been reading lots of suggestions, nothing ever worked for me. The GBP fixes (if it ever does) well after I have reached my destination. The whole symbian thing is way too confusing for me, but ok that's just a personal view. The good thing is that it looks fairly fast and does not crash. The bad thing is that even after a whole year, the thing still makes no sense.. Battery works irregularly. Sometimes it can last for three days after a full night's charge, while sometimes you have to recharge daily (same use of course). Just cannot trust it. It has quickoffice support which is pretty useless since you cannot edit your documents and even browsing is difficult (a trackball, optical pad etc would be much better). Moving across the screen is slow because of that lousy direction button. I have also tried every possible display setting for the last 12 months..there is absolutely NO WAY you can see anything on the screen under direct sunlight. The plastic battery cover seems stuck there. It seems impossible to remove it withouth damaging it (or your fingers). You cannot deactivate the T9 so when you try to switch from letters to numbers you have to press the shift button three times or more. The keypad is responsive but typing can be a tough task, if you need to type in more than a short message. (My humble) Conclusion: This is a really well-built phone which will serve you well if you only want to use it as a phone. If you think you are buying a GPS alternative or a smartphone..then prepare yourselves for a nasty surprise. This phone can do anything (on paper that is), but in real life it just doesn't. For me, it was a total waste of money.

Before you go on the gps, fist download the file from the gps+ application on the phone, download is valid for 7days. I also have a i560, excelent phone, love it! but battery doesn't last a day.

Hey guys, just bought the i560 and it really is a great phone, apart form one aspect: The GPS really struggles to get a satelite fix. It constantly says "Awaiting better GPS Accuracy". I left it on for 20 minutes or so and it finally got a signal. Any ideas?

Same problem here. Both me and my wife have i560's. Her battery lasts 3 days, mine only 1 day. I have tried swapping batteries, same story. For some reason my phone eats battery power at am increased rate. Perhaps a bad batch from Samsung? Has someone tried to get a response from Samsung?

Good Day Guys and Gals I have the I560 for about a month now,I can easily say that I was surprised.I never like a samsung until I got this one.The features on the phone are way more than adequate for its value.The 3 megapickel camera is great for mostly during the day shots.The flash is bright but not very effective.The phone is very fast and I wonder what processor it uses,can anyone tell me. The Symbian OS is good,and I tend to like it.The screen size is good,and picture,video and audio quality is excellent.Only downside is that the screen is not that visable in the sunlight. The GPS works well,it used garmin mobile XT version 5,and works wonders,with a full variety of features,options and settings. Battery life is good considering screen size and gps.

I'm in Melbourne, and I get no trouble with the GPS in my car - even driving through the city. The only place it doesn't get a solid fix is inside buildings. It seems that if there is a clear line of sight to the sky, it picks up the satellites without too much problem (about 1-2 mins for initial fix). Note: I'm *not* using GPS+ either.

Awesome phone. Battery lasts approx 3 days with standard use. With GPS use it will last about 12-15hrs. GPS is awesome , picks up 10-14 satellites in 30 seconds. Big screen, easy and fast operating system (im a symbian fan). overall you can get this from Dick Smith in Australia for $229au with Optus. expect to pay $599au outright. NOTE : DO NOT use the GPS in a high-rise city it will absolutely not work. Has never worked in Melbourne streets, and took time to reach a satellite on the outskirts. 9 / 10 from me! :D

To answer a few questions: The battery life is OK, lasts about 2 or 3 days with normal use - the GPS uses a bit of battery though. The phone comes with no games pre-installed, although being nokia's symbian OS, they are easy to find/install. The GPS can be turned off by exiting the application properly. If there is a little circular symbol next to the route 66 icon, then the application is still running in the background. Just go into the app and exit via the menus. My phone came with a 1Gb micro sd card (with adapter for SD). I am currently using an 8Gb micro sd card (sandisk) and it works no problems. There is no comprehensive user manual included with the phone. Just a basic 'quick start' guide. The included PC studio software is not compatible with Windows Vista. I had to download the latest version (7.1.45.8) which is.

firstly switch off the mobile phone. Turn the mobile phone slider toward you. Use both thumbs on the end of the phone, press then slide together. Use finger nail to slide in gap of cover then pull. Good luck.

Have just received my i560 and having same problem as you getting battery cover off. Have you found a solution? A rubber glove makes better contact with the slippery plastic than a finger. Still not easy.

How to transfer movies from your pc to the i560? Further more it is a great phone .The gps picks up satelite signal with in 30sek.I was not expecting much from the gps(seeing that it is a cellphone gps) , but was rather inpressed when i used it. Internet is superfast, but expencive and the music is also resonably good on this phone.I'll give this phone a 9/10!

Does anyone know if you can use a normal Bluetooth headset e.g. Jabra BT2010 to listen to the GPS turn by turn, music or Voice Signal? I can't....and according to Samsung Support, none of their phones can. Seems pretty useless if you're a motorbike rider and want to use a Scala BT helmet headset. I can stream audio to my Jabra with my work phone (a cheap Nokia 2630)....and I can't with the i560!!

If you put the memory card in, the phone will instal the software and request for the registration code. Also instal the GPS+ software under the Navigation menu. I got my phone 4 month ago and GPS work perfectly (South-Africa). Also good feature on the phone is the video player - you can instal videos in MPEG4 quality, which is DVD quality. Very good phone, pitty that GSMARENA haven't done a review on it.

Hi all, I bought one of these a couple of weeks ago and so far I really like the phone. Calls are clear, feels good in the hand,price is right at CTI MIAMI. hi Torres i recieved my phone today as well and the Garmin was still not working. I took it to Garmin itself. They trade in Durban as AVN Trading and can be found in the Durban North Area. my friend Stephen re-formatted the memory card and tested it. it seems to be working now. you Should try them because the Phone manufacturers will not be able to sort this out for you as you have given the phone for repairs without the memory card. i hope this makes sense.

A very dissapointing phone. i have only had my phone for 2 months and it has been with Vodacare for the last 1.5 months. The problem is with the Garmin usage. I was advised to take the phone to Garmin who failed to find the problem and Blamed Sumsung. so, the hanset went to Samsung and upon their tests, they found no problems. However when i recieved it, the Garmin was still not working and it came back in in the offline mode. Vodacom could not even help. Now it is gone back to their factory. this is upsetting as i only had the phone for 2 weeks and am not impressed. I was told that the GPS is a common problem. Anyone with the same problems?

Gr8 phone overall, the camera could be improved. When I got my phone the battery only lasted 3 days. I was very dissapointed,until someone told me to go to network settings and change from dual mode to GSM. The battery last for a week now.

So far I am enjoying my i560. The only negative thing about it is that its synchronisation software won't load on a computer that has Nokia's PC suit - in other wordsw you have to remove the Nokia PC suite BEFORE you can load the Samsung i560's software. I think it is shortsighted on Samsung's part because most households - more especially here in Africa - have only one PC and chances are some family members might prefer Nokias. For that reason it shouldn't be a problem for everybody to use different phone softwares on the same PC. This is not possible with the i560's software because it actually expects you to remove your Nokia PC suit software before you can run it.

I've had my i560 for 4 days now and am loving it. I don't understand y some people posting here are having problems with the GPS. I almost didn't get the phone coz of it, but am glad i did. Download the 40k file every week to assist GPS. Remember not to block the GPS internal receiver (marked on phone) when 1st acquiring lock. I hold my phone upright, it seems to work best. Try operate near a window etc. I get consistent GPS locks within 30 sec. The best part is that u get free Garmin software loaded in South Africa as apposed to Nokia's cost of 70 euros per year to use their Nokia Maps. And comes bundled with car charger and cradle. In my opinion it's a no-brainer.

I have this phone for 4 days now, and have read all the comments on this site. First of all, I'm in south africa, so no WiFi is not really a drawback at this moment as very few places here actually use WiFi (Mostly only found in Major Cities). The GPS does take long, but if you really want to have a lightning fast GPS, then buy a Stand Alone GPS, not a phone. And yes, using the GPS will drain your battery, thats why the Car Charger comes in the package. The only complaint I have is that I would like some more flexibility in folder management. The ability lock certain files and folders (maybe even applications) would have been a real plus.

Reply to Slinkywc I myself work in the Phone industry for the past 11 months in australia. I personally own this phone and i think it is excellent, and my phone does support a-gps. As navigators go, the i560 is better than most navigator phones. Nokia 6110s are pathetic, their software is useless and is one of our most sent back phones for repair we sell. not to mention they come with 3rd quarter 2006 maps, the i560 has 3rd quarter '07 maps. I do realise the samsung has the same symbian software as the nokias, just theirs seem to be a little more reliable than the nokias.

well first you need to have a map program installed into your mirco sd, through a card reader not on the phone. then the first time you use it you need to put the pin in and give it some time to start but its worth it at the end. tip on using the gps on the phone you need to turn your phone off and on again when you finish so it does not drain the batteries, because the gps doesn't turn it self off.

hey john. I work in the tel co sector and i have some different channels than a normal consumer. I sent it back as an ELF ( early life failure, 14 days after purchase is the time allowed by Samsung. ) which helped in the refund process. Samsung do know about the problem with the phone as almost everyone we have sold has the same problem. I had no problem in returning it. Although it runs similar software to the navigator the sensor for the GPS is different and it does not have a-gps which makes it a hell of a lot slower on the navigation. In regards to video recording i never tried it. Just remember as a consumer you have rights and demand some action as the phone is falsely advertised as a GPS phone with a crappy GPS.

hey guys have has this phone for 3 days now and wishing i had not got it. The phone it self is nice to use with a nice keypad and slide design. My problem is with the GPS. It takes for ever to find your position and when it eventually does the battery dies. Even the accessory pack that comes with is is cheap and nasty. if you want an good everyday phone it's not so bad but if GPS is your main concern in a handset I recommend looking elsewhere. I'm going to send this one back and get the N95 8gb which i should of got in the first place.

Best phone on the market in Australia by far. I also work in a mobile shop and not one has come back so lease people don't tell stories because you are a Nokia fan. Nokia simply are poor quality phones these days and it's down to arrogance they still sell with the exception of the 6300 which has been a great phone. HIghly recommend this i560 though, works wonderful, maps are great and all round quality phone.

The samsung i560 is a good phone. The GPS works fine and audio volume is ok. Battery life is acceptable compared to other samsung phones. The real problem is openning and closing the battery case. The trick is, to open, place your two thumbs at both ends of the case(not at the beginning as indicated by an arrow mark, but at the end) press down hard and slide out the case. It opens more easily this way(but not as easy as a normal samsung phone). Except this problem of battery case openning/closing, I recommend this phone. Spacks, Madrid

i got one 15 days ago. let me tell you first the drawbacks; 3.0 MP camera is weak since there is no auto focus, and there is no wi-fi. plus when you use gps battery dies very quickly. also a bit heavy. yet in normal usage, battery life is good enough (4-5 days) when you switch off constant satellite search function. design is fantastic. thanks to Sybian OS, you can update and/or personalize the phone. etc.

Samsung did a big mistake not equipping this phone with Wi-Fi. Many people will reject buying i560 not because it's a bad phone, but because it's not equipped with Wi-Fi and it means that they won't be able to use this phone for cheap ( and sometimes free) internet calls. Big mistake from Samsung... I think they should launch a new, updated version of i560 (say i560 Wi-Fi or something).

yes it has all these features. But the GPS takes forever to connect to Satelites. The battery runs out by the time it connects. And many times the people I call say that they cannot hear me well. yes I got this phone 1 week ago here in Athens. The Garmin GPS application was installed. Results: Good unit, but not happy with the GPS functionality because the unit I have does not find the Satellites in a reasonable time and the battery runs out in less than 3 hours if GPS is on and Garmin is running (forget about using Samsung's GPS program alone -need to know the coordinates of ur destination). I am taking the unit back to the store to confirm that it is not defective. I like the voice command of it (u can, in English, call someone or send sms or runa a programm without having to train the unit). Also I would have like to see WiFi but the phone does not have it.

Yes! It's really a pity that I found i560 was removed from the "coming soon" section in Vodafone UK webside. To "all da people who want be agaist Samsung Mobile" Do you guys actually know about Samsung Company.? Everyone knows Nokia is Mobile phone company. however samsung is different with that.! Samsung making lots of others as well. and over 50% of their products they have No.1 Technology in the world. such as Micro chip (D-RAM) and LCD also they do supply Mobile phone CPU to HTC and etc. company. Do you guys know ? that over 30% of Apple Iphone's inside parts are from Samsung.! Moreover, why would samsung copy FAT.-! Bulky Design from Nokia.? Samsung's Design Concept being Slim Factor and it is differnt with Nokia Design Concept.! and for the future 4G(WiBro) technology was Developed from Samsung and all the mobile phone in the future need to use samsung 4G(WiBro) chip. from all of these Samsung being totally Different company as Nokia who just making out side of phone.(inside of phone parts are fully supplied by third party)!

Check the specs it uses S60 operating system. the only weakness I ever thought Samsung had on their mobiles is gone. Imagine a stylish Samsung phone withe the exact same interface as an Nseries phone. Lovely!

To Samsung I am a firm follower and samsung lover but now i want to say as an advice. some of ur product is great like F700 but lack of something like WLAN,a high end video recording like VGA 30fps,5megapixel camera,video player like F500 maybe get it the best. P520 is like this.G800 is spoiled by bad resolution of video recording.F500 is great but video recording is in a bad resolution and no flash and also can't show message and other thing on the second LCD.On (i) series i love them specifically Windows mobile like i780 but make camera stronger on them. Until now i had T100,D500,D600,E900,i300 and now i have D900. make the OS of common handset better and smarter. F700 AND F520 are Ultra smart phone,Why? See some company like Nokia make an advantage handset like N95,E90,N81,N82,... that are complete.most of them have 3.5mm audio jack and WLAN but samsung's handset have this item very weak.Also LG has wiety and prada that very good and approximate complete. Every year make an approximate complete handset. Be the best.

come on look at the style and dimension of this fone its far from n95 specialy the 8gig ver. nokia fone's are over priced and out of style but samsung give us worth the money with "style" in it. come on n95 is SO huge! its bringing a big block of wood inside ur pocket, all i can say is that dont sacrifice style for features just look at samsung 16mm and F**k design!!

Upset ((( Great looking phone but too huge. It has a dimensions of fullsize communicator with bigger touchscreen, Wi-Fi and GPS. I don't really understand why Samsung decided to make so huge phone, instead of producing smaller and thinner ( more comfortable to wear and stylish) smartphones.

Peter, can you tell something about the battery? is it of 1200mAh as the Samsung i550? I thought it had Google maps preinstalled. Anyway I'm happy because it seems that the GPS will can be used with any software (just unlike N95/N82 which can only be used with Nokia software). This phone only lacks of wifi which can be repladed by highspeed HSDPA everywhere (specially using a flat rate Internet access).

I've been using it for some time now and I can tell you: it is really good. Works fast and flawlessly, easy to use, good camera quality. The only thing I could not try (yet :) is the GPS. Can anyone help finding a software for that, like tomtom? Please let me know in email. Thanks a lot! SAMSUNG, nice work!

Someone here said it's the u700. Of course not. This is a symbian phone, u700 is not. That's a whole world of difference between the 2 models. to "show": OS means Operating System

Even with 103x53x16 mm i560 seems too wide. I would like to see Symbian phone with Wi-Fi and 98x48x14 mm or even smaller. Screen size may be just 2'2 I thnik it's enough. :)

After using U600 i become fan of samsung and i stringly believe samsung has an edge over Nokia and SE. This phone looks cool and OS mobile with 3.15 MP and it'll surely have better screen clarity than other Os mobiles of Nokia and SE. Great going samsung. But please come up with good battery there we lags.

I m a huge fan of Samsung mobiles and i was waiting for this moment from a long time and now atlast Samsung came up with an OS mobile... thats really good for Samsung lovers. the phone looks very good but only one thing disappoints me alot that it has only 3.15mp camera and i want atleast 5mp.

No WiFi? The GPS chip takes too much place in the phone? That's a bad point for Samsung, wifi is more useful than a poor GPS that isn't Sirf III...
