  • This was my first Android based smartphone after owning many different models of BlackBerry devices and even the first and second generation iPhone (the latter being an iPhone 3G) The G1 interested me in Android but also turned me off a bit with it's rather cheap feeling plastics and slide keyboard. I then seen the Behold II, the dazzling new AMOLED display with amazing colors and despite being made of plastic, this phone felt like a real premium device that rivaled the same retail price of the (then new) BlackBerry Bold 9700. Where do I start here? My personal experience with the Behold II had me amazed then annoyed. I was stunned on the quality of the 5MP camera on this phone. I even dare to claim it took better photos than my far newer Galaxy S2! My only problem was my original phone had a bad radio in it, poor if no coverage at all despite a tower being a block away. Taking it inside, nothing... outside in the middle of my back yard, one bar of edge. Not a good first impression. I've had T-Mobile service for ten years at that point and had my old work BlackBerry to compare but it was a 8320, no 3G but full EDGE indoors. Needless to say, I got a new replacement after returning to the retail store. I paid full cash price for this phone which at the time was $550 not including tax! The replacement worked great so I could go on a rather weird adventure with this SNAFU of a phone. I loved its design and the still images were simply amazing, the 3G call quality was decent and the screen was large enough for easy typing. I did prefer the HTC keyboard and discovered that it installed with no problem on the BH2. Then after loading some media on a 16GB memory card I had used in my old BlackBerry, the Samsung music player would not read any of the ID3 tags or cover art on a large majority of the music I loaded. The files it did recognize were mislabeled and had fuzzy artwork despite the high quality covers. This annoyed me. I did like the fact that during the time that this was the only Android phone with any option to improve bass and other features. The brighter side of things was its display and the video player. Samsung got that right at least and I converted Avatar to see just how awesome this screen was. Video playback was simply beautiful. Much detail was lost due to the low resolution of the screen, but I could see that OLED had a great future ahead of it. The straw that broke the camel's back so to speak was the combination of the earlier feature phone themed TouchWiz and Android 1.5 "Cupcake". The app drawer sliding out from the left of the screen often getting in the way when trying to flip through your limit of three home screens. No "snap to grid" icon arrangement to be found either. Many promised and slipped updates from T-Mobile and Samsung and no fix for the worst bug of all on that phone... Random unmounting of the memory card even when just letting the phone sit still. I fell victim of the phone corrupting my 16GB memory card and thankfully my BlackBerry was able to repair and format it. Many photos lost, much confidence lost in what could have been a near hit for Samsung went away with a whisper. When it came to the Cube key, I found this to be nothing more than a "hey, look at me!" gimmick. It really was useless. I returned this phone disappointed as it was one of the best cameras I've ever used on a cell phone until the iPhone 4S for image quality. On a functionality level, thankfully Samsung brought that back with the Galaxy S2 and S3. In closing, the Behold II was a brave first attempt by Samsung to get into the Android smartphone market and move away from Windows Mobile. It wasn't the greatest success, but in my eye it wasn't a complete failure.

  • How can I stop this. My behold 2 keeps sending message to a code I don't know using my credit. Please help me!!!

  • I love this phone everything work great expect the Internal memory which is just 200 MB and its wont allow you to install any apps on memory card and am also having problem with my battery because its doesn't last long.

  • I really had a love/hate affair with the Behold II. The main reason I loved it was it had a very sturdy build quality, felt good in the hand, and the display was beautiful to look at showing all of the cutting edge of Android hardware for its time. The camera alone was a huge plus as it was one of the few phones that rivaled a point & shoot with the amazing amount of options Samsung added for the 5MP shooter with a bright flash. Few phones ever rivaled it including Apples own iPhone 3Gs for still photography due to Samsungs shooting options and the LED flash. Video capture on the Behold II was a letdown. What killed this phone was the software and bloat slowing it all down to a crawl. The Behold II had the best US specs for it's time until the original Motorola Droid on Verizon hit the shelves. Aside from the competition, this phone had a lot of issues to address which were to my knowledge, never solved via Samsung or T-Mobile. Memory issues to the massive amount of bloatware left little room left for your own choice of apps and a major problem with the hardware corrupting MicroSD cards causing you to lose your photos, app data, and other documents. The final issue I had with it was it's music player that had the worst time properly reading id3 tags and embedded album art. Most often if the phone did pick up an image from a tagged song, the artwork was so fuzzy that it was embarrassing. Especially on a flagship device with one of the first consumer phones with an AMOLED display. On the other hand, this was one of few Android phones for it's time that added sound profiles to enhance bass response and other types of presets similar to the iPod app on the iPhone. This phone when it was working as it should, truly shined showing photos and movies from the SD card on that amazing display. The Behold II would have been a major hit if TouchWiz was more user friendly and less demanding on the phone with the 3D panning to your other home screens and the odd cube feature that was fun to play with for a minute or two and then you wonder to yourself "Why is this here?". In the end, great hardware but poorly written software (and support) from both Samsung and T-Mobile as the marketing focus changed to the new Mytouch 3G phones which were quite a success for both T-Mobile and HTC despite the weaker hardware in comparison to the forgotten Behold II

  • @batches dupri. you are rite, their for the phone memory serves useless because you can only save application on it, and no application can be save in the memory card. I installed 2go and mozat when logging in it shows "application stop unexpectedly" inactive Bluetooth and low life battery. Borring

  • i can't store data on the phone memory and also my battery don't lust, why?

  • Beautiful phone with inactive Bluetooth, i try to launch 2go and mozat it shows application not responding. please what should i do? i really need it

  • I have problem with my WiFi connection on Samsong beholdII (Android)

  • I can't connect to any WiFi.....

  • Go to android market, type facebook on the searchbar and search, you'll get loads of options cheers

  • You can't get MTN service because of the sim card you are currently using. You have to go to any MTN shop and have your sim card replaced. There are two types of sim cards, some with 64 bit data bandwidth and 128. I had the same problem with my galaxy with MTN Ghana sim and it was solved when I had sim replacement. Hope this helps you Prince.

  • I've been using this for the last 12 months & its an awesome phone until I lost the SD card tray/door! you loose this & your dead unless your in US! because you cannot replace it with any other SD card tray types unless its the same SD card tray type! & that tray is not available to sell anywhere else in the world! ugh.. & without the SD card tray the phone is utter useless! no music no pictures no camera! no downloads! (only apps) enjoy! :)

  • i am want to buy either this phone or samsung i5500 which do u recomend please?

  • is the graphics that good???

  • how can i get the 2.2 version???

  • i see other people can appreciate the behold 2 like me.i am using it almost 4mths non and i gat no problems with it ,everything works well, the only thing is one cannot send files or music via bluetooth,(no deal breaker,i use mass storage with computer).i also use open gesture as a home screen replacement and it works well, mine is 1.6 donut and it has swype, android market(from which i download many apps).i get no problems with the letter "i"--which some people say gives trouble(maybe on earlier models)not now,--look at how many phones that are modern and bought new and can never be upgraded and many people are happily using them as normal.i think many people and reviewers jumped on the bad phone bandwagon.this is an excellent device.

  • I Brought this phone few days ago. Stop bad reviving on this phone! This is a great device. You have to Replace it's TW home with other home replacement, That's all... It speed up the phone, Increases Battery life, So it's fun to use. Still I'm looking for OS upgrade... to Android 2.2 Thanks..

  • what is the price of it..?

  • very good phone, using about 2mths with no problems, has android 1.6 os,touch screen responsive, camera good at nights, downloaded many apps fron apps store over wifi with no problems, music player works well(also using mixzing from apps store with music player),battery life good(2dys),making and receiving calls good,--only thing bluetooth only for handsfree accessories, not file transfer to other phones(i use mass storage with data cable for that, have not experienced any of the problems that others have, upgrading the os is not a priority for me as it does all that i want as is.8 out of 10.

  • very good phone, using about 2 mths, and working beautiful.did not get any problems as mentioned by many,os 1.6 donut, downloaded many apps from apps store over wifi, camera works good at night, touch screen responsive, battery life good2(2days),music player good(using mixzing from market),upgrading not a priority for me,has all the features i need as is.

  • i have this phone about two mths. in trinidad with android 1.6.and it everything works well.i have downloaded many apps.from the android market over wifi, camera is very good, the bluetooth seems to be only for handsfree operation not file transfer, but no problem for me as i use mass storage with my pc.upgrading phone software is not a deal breaker for me,as os 1.6 does all that i want.--good phone in my opinion.

  • this is a good phone in my opinion,i am in trinidad and have android 1.6 on phone, having the latest android version is not a priority for me,i use most of the features and even downloaded many apps from android market over wifi,i only need bluetooth for headset(i use data cable with my computer),the cube can be placed with other widgets by dragging it over, the three home screens are customizable, camera, flash for night shots works good, battery life good, music from player sounds good on speaker and headphones,---no complaints, good phone.

  • this is a good phone no problems about it but the upgrade disappoints me they said it will come to 2.1 or something so i can't use bluetooth but i love it use bhman rom that doesn't have touchwiz its very fast and link2sd so you will download many application i love playing movie on this phone the amoled was great..

  • or, better yet just install a whole new ROM. the 1.6 over the air update without touchwiz works perfectly and is rooted. Battery life and speed are much better than stock ROM, even than the stock OTA update to 1.6 that came out in July.

  • The Android FB app is a browser-enhancement, meaning it uses the mobile version of the regular FB page to show a lot of it's content. It's not as seamless as the iPhone app, but I haven't had problems doing what I want to. And with real multitasking, it means I get real time updates instead of having to use text msgs or email notification.

  • cant wait to use this fone......i feel its better so far. i used Iphone and this is the next big thing. No doubts

  • I have this phone and I don't like....

  • download blueftp app

  • If you find out how to send or recieve via bluetooth please let me know. I talked to customer care, and they said the phone was not capable, although it was my understanding when I bought the phone that it was. You can download the bluetooth file transfer under apps but the phone doesn't accept the file cause it needs firmware 2.0, and I believe the phone runs 1.5 firmware.

  • I would like to know the answer to your question also.

  • Android has an official Facebook app. This is an okay phone, its best feature is its AMOLED screen. However, it lacks RAM which will cause slowdowns.

  • its alright i find tht it doesn't hold a charge but for a few hrs...and gets very hot...not bad 6/10

  • i wonder how great this phone is at going on facebook.

  • becos you need to add the other device that you want to send or recieve file via bluetooth! add them first before sending or recieving thankss!!

  • anyone know when this P.O.S. of a phone is getting new firmware?

  • can someone please tell me how to transfer files from my phone to another via bluetooth? I can turn my bluetooth on and even connect to another device, but transferring files is my problem. PLEASE HELP!!!!!!!

  • Bluetooth seems to be not working.. cannot send and cannot receive file through bluetooth. Its searchable but still sending is failed..

  • i have this phone ,but i don now,my phone is too hot(oven)battery is new, phone also, what can i do? Tnks

  • Anyway can't compete my Blackberry Bold 2 ...

  • I own this phone and it works 5 times faster if you install PANDAHOME from the market. I'm not kidding in terms of speed, its that much. The touchwiz really slows down the system but installing the pandahome really speeds things up while keeping some good things that samsungs programmers have added [ like sim contact management, good camera software, quick access to gps, bluetooth, wifi settings from the pull down menu.

  • i've had the phone about two weeks now and i've found that it slows down if.... 1-you boot it while on charger. 2-you mess with it before it's fully booted. if it's dragging because of this, simply re-boot again and give it 2 minutes before you even touch it. my only complaints are the vertical keyboard and the native apps that are un removable. i suppose having root will allow removal of the apps like "where's waldo" or "diner dash". I'm a noob, so rooting is a strict "follow the destruction s" process for me. and I havnt seen very good info out there so I'm not trying to brick it.

  • I have this phone and a iphone and I like this device. anyone saying the iphone is junk is suffering from severe iEnvy. theres no comparison. quit frontin

  • I got one yesterday. much better than G1. Amazing display, somewhat quirky and has a learning curve. It does have a few Irritating features. It does not freeze up. This unit has a 528 Mhz cpu, 320 Mb RAM and I think 512 Mb ROM. I think its second only to Nexus 1 (as far as android goes) O.S.upgrade is needed ASAP. Get off your A@* T-mobile

  • is this phone rootable ?

  • This is my first smartphone, so I have no basis of comparison. * The TouchWiz interface is "overkill" and slows down and drags a lot. I guess it runs "on top" of Android. * BUYER BEWARE...this phone locks and freezes up. You just have to know what "triggers" this. So far, getting a call in vibrate mode, using Touchwiz to adjust screen brightness are the 2 events which cause lockups. Otherwise, this is by far the best camera I've seen on a phone, and the display is super clear. I give this a 7/10 rating due to the inconveniences I mention above.

  • I had this phone (actually two, the first had a bad GSM/3G radio) and while the camera really makes this phone stand out along with the AMOLED display, the user interface is a mess. TouchWiz should have never been implemented along with the "Ooh look at me!" cube interface that is neat for about a minute (which also has a dedicated key). The phone IMO has a great build quality to it but the software really could use an overhaul. Considering that factor, with Samsung's TouchWiz and Android 2.0, I imagine this phone will fall further behind the pack when it comes to updates. Finally, my last gripe is the music player. Getting your music to be seen properly by this phone is a major chore. Not only id3 tagging, but the album art is also fuzzy despite whatever resolution image is embedded into your music. Props to Samsung for adding an EQ and a coverflow like interface, but in the end, I felt like I spent more time fighting with this phone than enjoying it.

  • umm does anyone know how to activate flash when taking videos on the behold 2? cuz i've messed with every settings that could be messed with in its video/camera settings but the flash will only work for camera mode and not video mode...

  • i'm very very want to buy this phone can someone tell me where can i get this phone?? thanks..

  • Lots of software bugs. What bad mesh of touchwiz and andriod. Lots of missing features that are available on normal andriod devices. When using a regular headset without a mic, the phone still thinks the headset has mic, so it does not activate the internal mic. So if you bought some really expensive headset, it won't work!! Speaker phone is bad, the mic does not work well. Battery life is also bad, I'm charging mine every day, with normal use. Camera sucks, that is , once you start to use the zoom, it's blurry, so zoom is pointless!! Oh and the big one, tmobile tech support is not trained on the phone, samsung customer service, also doesn't know much, so you are on your own. If they quickly fix these bugs, the phone will be a good unit. But till then....DON'T BUY IT !!

  • I have this handset I don't understand why it didn't have 1.6 outta the box.it's a nice handset but I have had software issues with it already.be sure to also check if you have burnt out pixels on the screen,I'm already on my second handset.also the battery needs to be fullycharged several times before I works correctly.once you get past these set backs you'll enjoy the phone.google please send firmware update...your doing a disservice by making us wait

  • TouchWiz is not that great a lot of duplication and unnecessary functions to make it look like features. They are trying to take the behold I and cross port the features to the behold, which was done poorly. It needs an update. the is also some audio quality issues and here is the biggie.....there no way to sync your itunes music !! only media player on the Windows platform.

  • I was one of the first to get the Samsung Behold II yesterday from T-Mobile and while I was doing so, was disappointed to find out that the processor was only a 528Mhz ! Sprint has and earlier version which comes with a 800 Mhz CPU. Getting this phone was a trade for the MyTouch 3g (528Mhz, 198 internal RAM). While it has an upgraded camera (5Mpx with flash) I did fine its zoom feature to be a bit blurry at half to max magnification. As for the TouchWiz media cube, I am trying understand the need for this as there is banner at the bottom of the screen that offers access to the same features, why ?? As for the USB port, it is on top of the phone, which makes it difficult the charge the phone and talk at the same time. In addition, this port seems to proprietary usb, or must be a new standard, current mini usb cable will not fit. It is snappy and there are some quick access options to Wifi, Bluetooth and others from the notification bar, however, duplication of accessing apps and features is very much apart of this phone. It feels lighter than the iPhone and is about 1 -2 mm thicker . They say it will be able to run Andriod 2.0 when it is out, I wonder how it will the perform due to the processor and limited internal RAM. One great thing, I did not have to sign into to Google before I was able to use the phone ! thanks Samsung. Bottom line, it is a good phone. Andriod is Andriod and Samsung is Samsung. It has some good features once you get use to them. I fell it needs an update from Samsung to make a few things work better, however, this should not stop any one from purchasing this phone. It is better than the MyTouch 3G, but not the competitor the HTC Hero (which is really fast). I rate this phone as a 3.5 to 4 stars, however, its early days. I hope Samsung and Google will keep me feeling this way ( and get the update out very soon), if not better !! I'm hoping for better

  • does the behold 2 requires internet connection in order to work, such as the G1 or the mytouch?

  • This is the correct link:

  • 800 Mhz according to this: Just look down the middle of the page...

  • Does anyone know what processor is inside the phone?

  • we just got our behold 2 in the store and i love the hardware, its slim, sleek and very sharp. The version os android is not as nice, i really think if you flashed it with 2.0 or even 1.6 it would be a great phone!!! Which is what i plan on doing...

  • Flash support is software based it is not compatible on Google branded Cupcake devices but you can get a flash ROM for multitouch, flash etc from xda developers

  • I believe the lag on the camera is a software, not hardware limitation

  • As you mentioned that it takes 5 seconds to take a picture, perhaps that's the reason why it is called beHOLD. It simply holds you up.

  • YES! You are so right! Although I appreciate the 5mp camera on my Behold, I hate how the camera takes too damn long to take the picture. (And explaining to other people that they need to hold the button for several seconds, is a pain...not to mention if they need to use flash 'cause then you have to also tell them to hold the camera INCREDIBLY still to avoid a blurry pic.)

  • Does anyone know what the RAM is on this phone...or the processor speed?[2]

  • Samsung again playing copycat from LG with the Cube interface. Be original Samsung!

  • Yes, hopefully, but I guess it won't as it is just a differently-named Galaxy... :-/

  • Does anyone know what the RAM is on this phone...or the processor speed?

  • I hope this android is as good as it's portrayed to be because the first two android phones didn't live up to the hype they were both getting.I really hope this android phone has adobe flash,a better camera and video recorder than its siblings, and a better virtual keyboard.I can't wait until this comes out in November or December so I can upgrade from my aging G1.

  • I hope the Behold 2 will be available in classy/unique colors like expresso [Behold 1]. Also, it would be nice if they would add an FM radio feature & various screen savers.

  • if this camera is anything like the behold 1 camera it sucks. behold 1 takes 5 seconds to take a picture.

  • Hopefully, unlike the Galaxy, it'll have the new 800MHz processor from the Samsung Moment.

  • its exactly the same as the i7500 galaxy

  • finally an android phone with a decent camera! Yeah for flash and zoom! I can't wait. Hopefully it has better coverage than the first behold.

  • Because it's not in direct competition with the IPhone, plus this is a smartphone we're talking about here, unlike that overhyped piece of junk from Apple.

  • mmmmmm....Google Android...! let's see.

  • So much of the display is wasted with the bottom navigation controls. I also don't understand why Samsung doesn't make the screen 3.5 inches, then there would be an all touch android device that's REAL competition for the iPhone!

  • No differences, some minor changes in Edge, Gps, Bluetooth. The main thing which could be a great difference is the processor. We don't know yet which processor is running in this new Samsung T939

  • Why is everyone saying this is something new? Whats the difference between this and the galaxy i7500. Except for the cosmetic differences, ie: the keypad area. Can someone tell me please?

  • This looks like samsung usa's attempt at the samsung galaxy thats in europe. Its basically the same specs.

  • ur crazy...anything 4GB an up HAS TO BE SDHC..

  • So this is what all us galaxy fans have been waiting for, and the specs look much better than the Galaxy Lite, w flash and 3.2 in screen. Nice! shortcomings: no standalone GPS only 16 Gb no HSUPA It seems possible those all could be fixed/improved with a firmware change...

  • I've shouldn't judge the phone by looking on the small picture. When I zoomed the phone picture I changed my mind. Sorry to say it is looking like a toy, it is not. By the way what do you mean Android does not support more? You mean more what? Btw, it is not bad from Samsung, the phone is thin.

  • What? Only microSD, not microSDHC? Seriously? I want a new phone that can double as my mp3 player, 16GB just isn't enough.

  • Stop calling it a toy. The only reason why the specs are bad is because Android doesn't support more. Else they would've been better.

  • Its gonna create a tough competition for some high enders like the HTC hero and N97. Design is perfect, its just that they should have chosen black rather than brown.

  • This is a first for Samsung! A standard headphone jack seems like something that should have happened awhile ago!

  • 1st

  • how much is the internal memory?? no radio again?? err

  • that's not the design we want...--

  • another great addition...wow!!!!!!! keep it up sam

  • Good phone

  • Looks good so far, I like the design - seems practical, and good to see they got away from that shiny black finish trend - the back of the phone especially looks original, also nice to have a 5 PM camera. Obviously we'll wait for the reviews to learn how well the Android interface works, browser, camera, etc., but it looks very promising.

  • small screen, not interested...

  • Put a slide full qwerty on this phone and i will buy it :)

  • 2nd Not interested, looks like a toy. However Android inside, good thing.
