I really like this type of phone. It is available, and it meets all my needs. Battery, very durable. The camera, of course. The register can hold up to a thousand. The lights are clear at night. And what is unique about all sony ericsson is its SD card storage, and monobloc instead of coulissante.

I was and am so happy with this phone, that I'm buying yet another copy on the second hand market. The camera is astonishingly good. I have taken close up photos of plants and insects that can be enlarged to poster size and still looks completely sharp and crisp.

The camera is not 'poor' it is a very good 5m/pixel. It takes far better photos than my iPad, which cannot be enlarged.

Indeed it was the best candybar phone of all times that I've owned. Nokia never had a device like this as design, battery, speakers and camera performance in one package. I miss its MegaBass and its camera sensor. I will always have great joy remembering it! It was my first step in daylight photography. Thank you Sony!

I miss it too! In my opinion XA2 or L2 are so similiar with this one. XA2 on camera processing is so close to it as quality and upgraded performance. Except the size and weight XA2 is a great replacement to Elm.

Finally my Elm going malfunction after dedicated perform for six year, best durable, practical, efficient power consumption device for basic telecommunication needs. Unfortunately , today market with dominated touch screen gadget, the good feature phone become scarce. Sometime therre`s seller announce their existed old stock but the price quite high because it become collectible item and if you got money you must buy it soon as possible .. The best candy bar which match elm I think is Cedar. The specification a little under elm but simplier. Anyway , miss the soner product from Walkman series, cybershot, etc..

Hello everybody. I have a problem with this phone. I live in France and I bought it from the french mobile company SFR (Vodafone). After I unblocked it in order that it could work in B&You (Bouygues Telecom). The problem is that my cellphone doesn't recognize internet signal, 3G, 4G, WiFi, anything... :( Do ou think it's connected to the fact that I unblocked it? If so, what can I do? sorry for the late reply as i don't often visit regularly, sharing internet is pretty simple all you have to do is just pair your elm with your other device say your tab, then just go the paired device list in your tab and then click on the elm's name and it will connect to elm via bluetooth. Just grant permissions whenever it will be asked on elm. that's it...!!

Hi I have no help to give I can just say my Phone does the same. I think all you can do is waif till it stops going white and use it again. I know how annoying it is if you are in the middle of a tekt and it goes white and you have to rewrite everything! But still I love this phone more then I have loved any phone I have ever had!

Having used this handset for about a year it made feel me a good handset though have several cons. The weaknesses are slow response,low speaker volume, unsatisfactory accelerometer,poor camera although have a good resolution,lack of 3.5mm port. But there are also some pros like the phone is tough in built,cozy display, stunning battery life in 2g mode. my score on this is 6/10

My sony ericsson elm has a virus and the f-secure anti-virus that comes with this phone cannot remove this virus. I've tried connecting the phone to my laptop and running malwarebytes anti-malware to remove the phone virus but it wouldn't go. Before sending your Elm for repair and wasting time and $ try this handy tips I've encountered in nearly 3 years usage : 'sim card not inserted' message appears REPEATEDLY in Normal and 'Flight Mode', preventing any usage > off phone, remove battery, lightly rub sim card in slot AND/OR remove and reinsert sim card. [happened 3x times for me, surroundings were damp and cold = moisture condensation on sim slot contacts] back speaker doesnt emit sound > slightly tap the sound vent a few times [happened only once for me, in cold surroundings] volume rocker DOWN button on side malfuntioned randomly giving "voice dialing not activated" message, right cursor button, back key above power/call button does not give input, restarts / removing battery wont help > press and hold right cursor & volume rocker down together, press right cursor a few times > WORKED ! [happened lately once]

Hi, I had the same problem and its fixed now! Steps u can take - 1. Put your sim in another cellphone, and set up the sim lock option (ask for sim unlock password when phone starts in settings) 2.Now insert your sim into your elm and then when it'll ask for sim password when booting. Enter the password and you should be through!

For me SE Elm (J10i2) is one of the better phones i know: I like the buttons - they give a very good feeling of reaching the correct button. And I like the "system" of how every letter, space, and so on, is placed. Space-button, for example, is the same as Nokia: Number 0-button. I like that! Earlier had SE-phones the space-button on #-button. Not so good. Elm has also the alternative T9-words on the same button as Nokia: *-button! But! U can also change the T9-words with the 4-way-button. Good! But one bad thing... They have taken away (at least in my phone) MANY alternative T9-words... Irritating!! For example, phones like Sony Ericsson W595 and K610i has the "real" number of those words. So u have to write many more words that is missing in T9..! But, as said before: The buttons are REALLY good - u can write without see the buttons. Even 4-way-button is really good constructed for the fingers. Also a bad things: The display has a bit DARK "stile"... Not good!! Yes, the pictures from camera and internet are a bit dark. (For example: SE W595 has a display that is much better and Sony Ericsson should have put that in SE Elm instead! The display in W595 gives a MUCH more natural and correct "light". (Thats very easy to see if u can compare them i reality.) I can tell that W595 is in MANY ways the same as SE Elm - some better, some worse. Same meny for example. Though space-button is on #. But it has more T9-words. U can look the difference urself her on GSMarena if u want.) In SOME ways SE Elm are SLOW... For example to delete pictures. But in other ways the phone is fast. (If u test the "old" phone SE K610i u notice how fast it is in many ways than SE Elm.) And to start SE Elm take unnecessary long time. (K610i is much faster.) Battery-times is ok, but I actually wish that battery was better = better standby-/talktime - why must mobile-phones be so thin?... LONG battery-time is soo good. In my opinion. To open up the back to reach battery and sim-card is unnecessary difficult. Patience is needed! (I guess people with bad patience can get mad on that - and break the phones into pieces, haha!) The phone is quite good on internet. Ok, not a "year 2013"-class maybe. One good thing is that Sony Ericsson has taken away many unnecessary steps on the "click"-way to internet. On earler phones (also Nokia and others) u needed to do unnecessary many clicks for that. Radio is quite ok...though NOT in my taste. I rather prefer phones like Nokia 2300, 2310, 5630, which is better and more practical in some ways: U can change FM-channel with handsfree-button (and extremely quickly too!). U cant that with SE Elm: U must click new channel on the PHONE. SE have, on later phones, a contact for the charger/handsfree that isnt so practical. For many people who use the phone much, after long using months/years, the "female"-contact slots, and cant remain the contact in the phone... U may then need a rubber band to hold the "male"-contact in the phone. NOT good! SE's earlier phones had a much better contact. And they had TWO "female"-contacts: One for charger and one for handsfree. Much better. (Example SE K700.) Also: For SE Elm u need a bit newer kind of charger that is combined with "male"-contact - IF u want to use handfree while u do a phonecall and need to charge at the same time. Camera is quite ok (but not the "dark display, as told before). I actually dont use the camera of this phone much. Anyway: Generally SE Elm is one of the better phones from Sony Ericsson, I think. Good for phonecalls, good in internet (but not so good for example Youtube) and more. VERY good buttons. And the phone has a quite good, big display. ...But... I remeber the phone (as new) was delivered with a kind of handsfree that DIDNT have a phonecall-button... OOOH, that was bad! (NOT good! Hahaha!)

"Communication failure.secure connection failed" Most people get this message when trying to logging Facebook (or Myspace lol; not tried logged Google + yet) on Internet browser or Widget. Actually that is not 100% Elm's fault. Facebook already changed new Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) certificate for log in which is not supported on this phone. But depends on region whether you're live in Africa, Asia, Europe etc. If you're lucky you still can log in on facebook using internet browser. The Widget also using same certificate as internet browser so it is the same thing. That is two solutions for this issue. 1) Use Opera Mini or; 2) Use UCweb Opera mini can be used on WiFi but need to have APN a.k.a Internet Profile. I think someone on this user opinion already told how to make it done. Please corrected me or make an up-to-date info if I'm wrong or giving misinformation regarding this issue. But based on my knowledge, this is the main reason. If all information are wrong, I am so Sorry. After 3++ years using this phone, (including changing broken Fastport due to water enter in it because I'm stupid enough not keep it inside bag when riding scooter on rain and changing cover to pink) I'll say it is one of the last and best Sony Ericsson phone before Xperia (and its alphabets) invasion. Even do now I'm using HTC One X (and gave my SE Elm to my mum. That's explain why I'm changing cover to pink) but sometimes if I missed this phone I'll change my phone with my mum (My mum hate One X.. too big for her..) UPDATE: If you're Fastport broken, not only can't charging up or listening to headset, you also cannot using GPS and WiFi signal will be crappy (showing 1 bar signal at full signal WiFi area) Thank you for reading my lengthy opinion and sorry for my grammar or spelling. I have had this phone for over 3 years now (february) an i must say i tested it in any way possible.dropped it several times on the floor on the concrete etc .only cracked the display in the left top corner(does not affect the display much).the battery still has much power.lasts 2 days with average use.little use and you shold not be worried for about 5 days.I'm happy with it and i would be upset if i lost it or destroyed it beyond repair.It's cheap and worth every penny

Main drawbk front camara is not. Video plyr is small width. Digtal eye light automatic.can't turn off. No photo editor. Some times can't work in sounds. Charge port is difficult to attached at charge. Theme can't set at any file. Totally it's worst phne. when compare to j105 naite mob.

I swear this phone will be with me till I graduate. Here is the remedy for the only problem of this phone(charging without storing battery). 1. The charger is not the problem. 2. The charging point is not the problem. 3.the phone is the problem. Solution. After plugging ur phone, wait for 2 minutes. After 2 minutes if not storing battery remove the charger from the socket and plug again. Repeat it until it starts storing battery. When charging ur phone always press the volume bottom while in standby. That's all

I'm using this phone for more than a year. I also faced that problem(charging) you can solve it by cleaning the connectors of battery... You can use patrolium for this perpose and always charge your phone in turn off mode it will increase your battery life...

i have the same problem, when i plug in my charger it shows that it is charging but when disconnect it form the power it still shows low battery even if i put in on charge for the whole night. but fortunately it get charged when i connect it to my pc. where is the problem actually, the charger, i have nokia chargers using them for almost 10 years now, but still no problem. It also happened to me. U will get the solution in its manual which is in settings menu. Just remove the battery, clean the connectors to which the battery is connected in the phone or may your battery be not tightly fixed. Remove it and fix it tightly. Then charge it.

I Have had my Sony Ericsson Elm for 3 years. I bought a Blackberry Bold 9700, and an IPhone 4. While i love the other two phones the Elm is just as good (if not better)i gave it to my Daughter instead of getting her a Blackberry or IPhone and she loves it. it allows her to do everything the others will do appart from the apps. i would recomend the Sony Ericsson Elm to anyone-a top phone. *****star..

Ive been using this phone for about 3 years now.. I have no major problem with it. I really love this phone dispite the error when logging in to facebook. I love the small things bout this phone.. I love the calender, the sound, the mega bass equalizer, the camera, the torchlight, the calculator which has % function.. The ability to share folder through network.. The ability to work as a modem.. The copy n paste function..threaded view messaging..A very2 COMPLETE phone. Thumbs up for ELM. I dropped this fon many times but its still in a good condition.. I wouldnt sell this phone to anybody even if i had purchased a more superior phone. I LOVE U J10I! ^^v

ups: excellent battery life (3-4 days with normal usage but eventually becomes 1-2 days after 2 years) superb camera/video (talk about digicam quality, better than s3 i would say) surprisingly durable (got wet inside my pouch when it fell in a lake and still working, not to mention been dropped or moistened most of the time. yup!still working) uber user-friendly (try talking to it when you're alone) unrrated price (should be much costly considering the features) handy downs: sound quality (soso volume w/ or w/o headset) boring themes (has not much themes that's entertaining) apps (does'nt support android apps) connectivity (has issues with some wifi and bluetooth connections) limited display controls (annoying sensitive auto adjusting to brightness feature or whatever you may call it) over all: this phone may not be an android which most phones are today but nevertheless, nice phone. has some flaws but learn to play with it and youre good. as for me, i can still see myself using this phone for the coming years.

Please help me. I bought this phone recently..I'm having these problems. When i try to install new apps it failed saying "memory card full,delete one or more files of your choice" even if there is free memory more than 1Gb.and also has enough free space in built in phone memory. I bought it in june2011 for about $150. It is okay for the price.Only problem observed is its battery life.Manufacturers always boost about 25% extra.Camera is very good especially at outdoors and well lighted indoors.Video quality is also satisfactory,because it is VGA only.

I have been using this mobile since 2010. A real utility mobile with all features necessary to me, like 3G, Wi-Fi, google maps etc. Battery life is still quite good. Nice clarity, excellent camera with multiple photo modes. Of course, considering the awesome smart phones available within this price range, the new buyer has to take a call on selecting this phone.

The best headphone/earphones to be used with ELM is HPM 70/HPM 77. I recommend HPM 77 because I've used it. If you're an Indian, it'd cost you between Rs. 425-500. Believe me, it rocks when you use it with the equaliser set on 'Megabass'!! The sound quality/clarity is awesome to say the least. ENJOY LISTENING!!!

hey guys,i bought this phone b4 1year.now i have a lot of experiance regarding its compactness... my elm fell more than three times,one in the road while driving my activa........ my phone survive even when it falls in a pond of 4ft depth, for at least 1minute it was completely in water b4 my friend jump 2 take it....... u should follow these steps while this phone goes for a swim......[from experiance] 1.do not try 2 turn on .[do not press any switches] 2.simply take out the battery and remove the water by using a cotten. 3.dry the phone by removing the case in sunlight 4 half an hour. 4.after this consult a mobile service store and tell them 2 clean it....[i spent Rs.100 4 this] 5.now the phone is ready 4 use........... rock on elm........ .vyas.

I've used the SE Elm for the past 1,5 years. The phone has turned out to be a bit of a let down. The operating system is slow! Especially when opening/closing simple apps like Gmail. There is a built in widget thing going on that you can't delete, also makes the phone crawl. It has wi-fi, but often it can't connect. 3G connection also often fails. Music player is also terrible to work with (you can't just play a folder, wtf!) and very slow. Same goes for image viewer. To close it, battery life is way too short for a dumbphone. I enjoyed the SE W800 way more. It lived up to it's purpose. Elm fails in too many ways. I now have a Xperia Ray for the same money the Elm cost me. Way better.

Simple.. 1) Buy USB cable 2) Set your phone mode to USB Storage and plug cable to your phone 3) Your phone will enter mass storage mode 4) Defrag your phone using Disk Defragmenter (on Windows 7, XP) 5) Disconnect and wait for phone restart. Done. One of the reasons, Elm doesn't have any Defrag software (never found it so far). So you'll have to defrag manually. Delete data only is useless, at least your phone must defrag every 6 months. Also if necessary format your micro SD card because all Google Map cache is store on it.

I am very happy with this SE Elm...except the camera function, although picture quality is superb but digital zoom is not available in MP mode. If u have nice headphone sound quality is superb, GPS is up to the mark..even google map works on internal GPS if u have data plan. Battery last 3 days (i have to attend call 1/1.5 hour daily)this phone full fill my all requirement, previous i own K790i, it serve me 5 consecutive years. I never try any other brand than Sony Ericsson, is the best for me, but i don't like touch, slider and flip, so i hope in future Sony will relaunch nice bar phone with keypad like Elm.

I've had my Elm for about 1,5 years now, but it has started to become awfully slow! It takes like 10 sec to open my inbox and 5 sec to unlock it! I only have a few songs and fotos on it, and I regularly delete my old messages. When I brought it there was no delay and it worked perfectly. Have anyone experienced the same thing?

After two years... Pros:- 1) Superb battery life. Drain for 3 days on average usage. (Call, text, some facebooking). You won't get this on android. 2) Superb camera. Even do 5mp consider as 'old stuff' these days but for me is more than enough. 3) Super durability. Never went to service center to service this phone. I accidentally step on it(Weight 90kg) but the phone still fine. 4) It's java phone. No need worry about Viruses. 5) multitasking. (most shocking feature) Cons: 1) Terrible signal. (Every Elm user knows this) 2) low quality keypad sticker. The keypad still in very good condition but the numbers on it already gone. 3) Low volume speaker. missed a call is a normal thing 4) Crap earphone. Change to Sony Ericsson HPM-85 headset for best quality sound. 5) FastPort connector. I HATE IT. Have to replug over 4-5 times only to recharged phone. I love my Elm. Will use it until Smartphone battery life issue solved.

absolutely, top handset, no issues with keypad for texting, make sure you get yourself a silicone case to prolong , the usage of the phone an added tip, if you like me, have loads of videos on memory card, i.e music videos by genre in folders and movies by genre in folders, if when you launch media center [on the handset] and you do not want them all bundled together, then move all your folders [regardless of genre] into the videos, podcast sub menu,in file manager, then when you load the media center, and go to podcast, where you will find everything thing will be nicely organized, into the seperate folders that you created earlier. Hi! I'm from kolkata, West Bengal, India. After a thorough research through NET, Purchased a new SE ELM (AS I REALLY HATE TOUCHSCREEN!)for Rs. 7350/ this month. Thanks to GSM-ARENA. And things are going quite well with my new ELM. Its a pretty good handset. Camera are good enough in day light. Details are very good in sunny weather. MACRO Mode as well as PANORAMA Mode is very useful. But there is problem in taking picture in artificial light or its in built flash. Sound is satisfactory. Plenty of options are there to play with new set. No problem in transferring data from my PC. But when it comes to put the name of new contact.... Oh! not enough space there to write a full name even! Its so disgusting!. Can it be solved with installation of new software to my ELM ? Please anyone tell me this if there is any solution. Otherwise an excellent phone within this price range. If you are not interested in touchscreen and prone to photography with MOBILE then SE ELM is your accurate choice. Thanks.

Been using this phone for more than 2 months now. excellent battery life no prob with web surfing loudspeaker OK GPS takes time to connect sync with Outlook or Ymail easy clear reception during phone call but the camera just doesn't cut it.. yeah it's 5MP but the flash doesn't help at all. even pics taken in rooms with ample light comes out very poor. HPM 70 is louder than HPM 77 but HPM 77 has a much superior audio quality than HPM 70. I'm telling it from my experience. Sadly, I've lost my HPM 77 a couple of weeks ago while on a trip! I got it from a shop in central Kolkata. You can get it from online shops or search for it.

Got my Elm yesterday :) Like the features offered by Elm, considering its price (got it for 150 USD including microSD - price converted from Malaysia Ringgit). Upgraded from SE K800i. User interface is smooth and fast, and will be familiar to SE users. Seem to be detecting wifi without problems. Nice keypad! Just nice for one-handed operation, and being able to text without looking at the phone is one of the advantages of the alphanumeric keys. Light and pocket-friendly. Some issues users may have: -automatic brightness adjustment can be distracting -camera button on my set is very stiff... not sure if it's general or just the set I have. Some pics I took are blurred due to the sheer strength required to press the button. Otherwise, the camera is pretty good! After exhaustive surveys, this is one of the best handsets with alphanumeric keypad around in its price range.

I find the Sony Ericsson Elm J10i2 to be an very good handset , almost excellent for a Java based handset. I bought the SE Elm as a replacement for my (still operational) SE K750i which was my very first multimedia mobile phone - I haven't been disappointed with my choice! The Sony Ericsson Elm shines in terms of: - usage - camera quality - connectivity (WiFi) - autonomy (up to 10 days without recharge in good signal areas) - smooth game play (only Java support) - a decent amount of internal memory (over 280MB after You delete the handsets "Manual" that is located on the internal memory) - ... and surely many other little things and features that will make You like this handset. This comment wouldn't be appropriate without mentioning some (minor) downsides , which are as follows: - the displays auto-dimming is MOST annoying it keeps changing the displays background lightning continuously - the display is practically unreadable under direct sunlight (but this is a problem most handsets have) - the SE Elm seems to power down its network receiver resulting in huge signal strength variations , BUT it does not lose its network connection. In bad signal strength areas the SE Elm will drain its battery within 2 days without being used (pure standby - no calls, SMS or multimedia usage!) - although the SE Elm supports hot swap , it is quite annoying that the memory card slot is located under the battery cover - the MP3 player is not as good as it could have been (the SE K750i is superior to the SE Elm in terms of MP3 playback) and the supplied headphones (button-earphones)are terrible to use , so I suggest You to get Yourself Sony Ericsson Walkman-plug-headphones (HPM-70) To conclude , even though Android based handsets currently seem to take over and dominate the mobile world I have absolutely no reason nor intention to change my current phone! The Sony Ericsson Elm is an excellent choice for users with low and medium requirements , users with high demands might be disappointed by the SE Elm and as such rather steer clear from it. NOTE: I tried using a handset equipped with a touchscreen without a keypad - I didn't like it , needless to say that I love the fact that the SE Elm sports an alpha-numeric keypad and lacks the oh so glorified touchscreen! I also want to point out that I never made a software update , my Elm seems to run perfectly fine for the last 1.5 years - I have no intention to jeopardize that with a (to me) pointless software update. Though I have not experience this handset but I can share my own experience of J105 Naite'. Media Go is not required instead you can switch off the handset and then use the device as data storage. For connecting it to internet, if you are not able to connect through PC suite then try connecting it directly using Connect to a network wizard. Just follow simple steps for Dial-up connection. Still if there's any problem connecting to internet then go to properties of the modem--> advanced settings and there will be a code required which you can easily aquire with the help of internet based on your service provider. Hope this clarifies your doubt.

Try texting on a touchscreen or physical full qwerty, on the move, without looking down... with one hand full of whatever stuff you're holding. Alphanumeric keypad (and may I add - without predictive text, yes, I live in the dinosaur age) is still the best input for texting one-handed, without looking...

My Elm's own software is working fine, but installing and using software for connecting the phone with PC is quite a task: MediaGo is huge file, about 200 Mbit, and after lenghty downloading the installing failed altogether, the program provides no information about what's wrong. Somehow the windows doesn't recognize the pictures in the phone, I had to send them via bluetooth to other phone, after that I could open them on my PC. Bear in mind though that I am an inexperienced Sony Ericsson user, it's possible that I messed up somewhere. And after all, Elm does take great pictures when light conditions are fine.

Depends what's important for you: Elm has better camera, takes pretty good video, wifi offers limited possibilities (no streaming video like Youtube, at least I haven't found any way to watch them, I don't know whether or not c3 has the same problem).c3 has full qwerty keypad, a big plus, but that's about it I guess. Well, Elm has a good camera and that's about it as well: wifi limited, gps expensive (it has wisepilot, so you'll have to buy a licence after the trial period has expired). Try to find a place where you can try them both, hands-on experience is very important, I for one wouldn't have guessed that Elm keypad is so comfortable (C3 has good keypad too but I've only tried C3 in a store so can't really help you more).

Hi! I've been using the handset for a while now and must say the feelings are mixed: + Nice design and screen, fantastic keypad, wifi, video recording rather good, document shots fantastic, all in all a fast phone plus some little bonuses - Camera is far from what I've expected, pictures taken in daylight indoors aren't really that good, my old 1,3 megapixel camera mobile Samsung sgh-e200 is faster (you'd expect a faster processor with more megapixels, wouldn't you?) and what's really surprising, quite often the pictures look sharper.If you trying to capture a moment, you most probably can forget it - at least my Elm isn't fast enough nor sharp enough. USB connection is really weird, takes a restart every time you transfer something from or to memory card (again, with my old phone it took just a couple of keypresses to change the usb-mode) It seems it's absolutely necessary to install pc companion, when I first tried to connect the phone to my computer, the computer did a shutdown "to prevent fatal error" or something: when in the phone menu there's an option: "PC mode for Windows" who could guess it's not compatible with windows? Flight mode takes a restart, very strange, my old phone doesn't need more than couple of presses again. Incoming call is really-really quiet, luckily I almost always use handsfree anyway. Please bear in mind, that every handset is different, some things I've mentioned might be due to mishandling in the post etc, you should definitely try the handset yourself before buying. But with this kind of cons like my handset has I couldn't really recommend it to anybody: good keypad, nice looks, but otherwise too slow, too blurry, too silent. For now it seems it's only acceptable if you get it for free, but I still hope my Elm will prove me wrong.

Yes, I was thinking the same thing. I had the same problem five years ago with an Ericsson Z520i (clamshell). Under warranty, they reset the software and it seemed to help, but Smart still gives longer battery life than Sun on that phone. I still have it today, but have not monitored the disparity in detail. My daughter has a Nokia E72. A full charge on Globe lasts her around five days. When using a Sun Sim, it is only good for around two days. I guess I will have to put up with it because using Sun is cheaper overall vs. other providers. Thanks for your reply. I really appreciate it.

Maybe because Smart has a larger coverage in signal compare to that of Sun and since this phone has many issues about signal reception, the phone is having a hard time recieving and reaching data and signal making its battery to drain faster compare when you're using your Smart sim.

You need to either configure the internet settings of your telecom service provider manually or have your service provider send the settings to your phone. Generally, it takes a few days for a new mobile to get recognized by the server of the telecom service provider. You need to save the settings after you've got it and you're ready to go!

I am reacting to Trololol's comment on poor battery life. I just bought my Elm about two weeks ago, in Quezon City, Metro Manila Philippines, for about PHP 5,660.00 (around 100 Euro). Phone seemed OK at the start because I first loaded a Smart Communications SIM. Battery drain on stand by seemed fair but I did not monitor it, guessing over a week on minimal use in 2G only mode. After a while, I loaded my usual Sun Cellular SIM which I normally use all the time, the Smart SIM being only a backup. Guess what, projected standby time is about four (4) days (minus 1% per hour). This seemed horrible and I could not believe it. So, to test the phone, I reloaded it with the same Smart SIM that I started up with. In 2G only operation and no use, the projected stand by is around fourteen (14) days. The disparity is almost like heaven and hell. I consulted the Sun guys but they could offer no solution regarding phone settings, which I thought to be the problem. I have no choice but to go back to my Sun SIM so my standby time is back to four days. It really sucks compared to that of the Smart SIM. I emailed Sony Ericsson Phils about the problem but they haven't replied yet over two days now. Is there anyone out there who might know the solution ? Really need help to solve this problem.

What I don't like with this phone is I can't have another set of flash themes that can be downloaded on the net since it doesn't applied. Only I can enjoy is the predefined themes. Guys, could you help me with this? Limited apps available since the platform is old (Java) but there is still which you can enjoy at mobile9.com The light sensor also distracts me since it always adjust every now and then in different lightning conditions. Screen is small. No 3.5 jack so be careful with the headset given! Its hard to have and replace for another one!

A phone of real power! WiFi reception is fast. Battery life what makes this phone rocks! Battery (full charge) last up to 2 days under strenous usage (internet, music, texting, calling and gaming all at the same time) without charging. And 3 to 4 days if you're not using it too much. Sound is a lil bit *weak* but clarity is there. Camera is one the best. 5mp shooter. You won't appreciate the picture in the phone since it has low UI quality and ppi but once you view it on the other phone or in computer, you'll start to appreciate it. Browsing - better download a browerser like Opera Mini to enjoy the surfing experience.

actually .avi file extension name belong to several kinds of movie format, generally for mp4 standard. Elm can play ( and supposed to be) .avi files if the movie was created by mp4 converter using experia/sonyericsson compatible codec. a lot recent software can do this conversion. if you are not sure, use standard 3gp movie, in can be played in most all sony ericsson devices.

I turned the 3g off and had it on 2g lowered the screen brightness and put this to the test continuously texting I managed 3 and a half days out of it till it started giving me a low battery warning. Superb little phone very light very sleek and appealing nice to hold in the hand as well. The camera in the daylight takes some superb quality photos in fact I used this as my primary camera when going on holiday and took some superb photos with it especially using the Macro feature. In the night time photos are ok outdoors but it suffers indoors in low lighting conditions even when flash is on the colors suffer a bit. Video camera I though was superb no problem there. Audio very crisp and nice quality from the speaker only reservation I have is the sound is a little low, especially in call. Out of 10 I score this a firm 8

Yes the phone delivers value for money but it takes a while to cancel a call and go back to the home screen it take around 3- 4 secs which is a bit too much for me and secondly it takes awesome pcitures in day time and in night time the niight mode lights up the dark but it takes atleast 5 to 10 sec just to focus on the object which is lot and the when u try to take the picture u have to keep the phone still for atleast 5 secs other wise the pic will get blured, in short good day time camera but not good in taking night shots,p.s. the flash has a range of 4 feet max.

Im using ELM from last 1.2 years.. n the phone is worth to buy. im too happy with its battery backup(3 days minimus with heavy use), music quality is crystal clear, shape of handset is classy and diffrent. keypad is user friendly,good internet speed and very nice video clarity in day time , only it lacks in camera when u r taking picture in night with poor flash. OVERALL ELM is worth to buy . i bought it in 8k in india

I've been using this phone for almost a year and it is really awesome. the battery last for 3 days with heavy usage like watching movie, playing games, 1hr call, listening music and heavy texting. the video is great. wifi range is just average. this is really a heavy duty phone, i dropped it on the second floor of our house and it did not create any problems. just only its housing that gets scratch, hehe.

i use mine to watch movies, i watched denzil washingtons deja vu the other day and it only used 20% of memory, the film is 2 hours plus long, the format was mp4 [divx], i think the only thing that really eats the battery more than anyhing else is the gps anyone having issues with the task menu, task being saved with no priority to date or time

This is the best phone ever I've used! Almost everything except the loudspeaker volume is exceptional if you keep in mind it's price range. It takes better snaps than most of those over-rated 5mp shooters. Also the video recording is great(better than basic digital cameras). I've been using a SE HPM 77 headset and the combination is awesome(just turn on the 'Megabass' equalizer and feel studio like sound).On an average, I listen to 1.5 hrs of music, play game for 30 minutes and make/receive calls for 30 minutes - still the battery lasts for more than 3.5 days..amazing! It's more than a value for money phone which is perfect for almost every user group.

I've had this phone for 1.8 year now and, aside from the payable antivirus and gps guide, it is a great phone overall. I've been a heavy duty user, playing games, using internet 24/7 and it has shown a resilience i doubt many phones would be able to match. Sure, i miss a bit noisier speaker for music playing and could do well with the extra infra red option but few now even offer IR.

Maybe you are not using 3g connection. Elm's gprs is too slow. So it's always better to use 3g connection when browsing internet. About video calling- that because you haven't activated the 3g. Call your network operator.

That because the signal strength is too low. However, have you already faced this before? Some people have reported some signal issues with the antenna. Just try to re-search for networks again and give some minutes to settle down the phone. Its not a software problem. So you don't need to format or reset the phone.

I bought this phone to replace my old SonyE W200. In W200 I used an application, CodeMemo, that is not ported in ELM (why ??). However I found a freeware replacement of that app at www.mobilecryptoapps.eu (PwdLocker) that runs perfectly on ELM. Somebody need to do some extra web search to port functionalities from his old phone to the new one.

I don't think so. Java need to be compiled for MIDP, CLDC devices. Java programs for PC are not compiled for such platforms. Check Java applications specificaly for mobile phones with MIDP support.

I bought this phone today, and the only thing I can say is that, I'm impressed. Don't hesitate to buy it. every thing is so cool about it. nice camera with autofocus and flash, cool and easy to use interface. the video recording is vga 30 frame and you can turn on light, the only thing that some may find a little bit not appropriate is the light sensor, which can be disabled with patch. you can google it if you need. it supports java games and softwares no matter what size they are. I installed a 10 mb dictionary with absolutely no problem. just make sure to get games of 240x320 resolution.

I'm not expert in phones but i will answer it as far as i know. 1. Data transfering via cable. Yes, it's support Data transfer via USB. BUT! Data cable not included. Buy it separately on shops. 2. Download theme at mobile9.com or etc. Now days the theme pretty easy to find compared to last year. 3. This is not a Walkman phone, so don't expect much on it's speaker. I can say that it's sound is average. Means if tune up till full volume it can be heard till 6-7 meters. 4. Camera is superb for this price. Best capture on sun or good lightning condition, but it has some yellow-bluish lines when capture on night. But that's not major problem for me.

It's a good mobile and i'm truly satisfied with its capabilities. The somewhat little screen is the biggest problem (as I guess) and wish if it has Xenon flash with cyber shot instead of the LED. Can't tell a number exactly but I have opened and used (just to answer you q) Skype 1.2.11 Opera mini 6 Gmail app Tracker Google maps Media player Queep A dictionary E buddy Calculator app (downloaded) Periodic table and AccuWeather at the same time. All worked just as normal but could see that the smooth animations didn't work (you can see it when you open the main menu) But it was all Ok. By the way, if you want a high multitasking device then why don't you buy a Smartphone?

Dude, the zooming is NOT a problem actually! It's just kinda normal. You can zoom after capturing the photo. It's just same as zooming before capturing the photo. But remember to select the most suitable scene. The twitter. Yes it's a PROBLEM! Mine is NOT working too! I flashed the phone but nothing changed. :( It says service not available! By the way, what about subtitles?

Look, if you want to update your phone first you need a usb cable because Elm don't have a UPDATE feature in the SETTINGS menu like other Sony Ericsson phones... connect your phone with the computer, then you need to install Sony Ericsson PC Companion. After that you should make a backup on your computer to save your files from the phone with the Backup & Restore function. Then you should go to the Support Zone function > Start > Phone Software Update - then follow the instructions for updating on your computer, thats all :) Cheers

The phone is simply superb. It can lock the position within 1minute or less (if you have a-gps turned on) GPS accuracy is really good. Wi-fi connection is good but some times not much stable. Sounds through the head phone is not much impressive (if you use the retail headset) So buy SE hpm 64 or any other MEGA BASS headset. Then the sound quality is awesome!

1. Did you watch the photos in Computer? See 2. There are many settings. Use them properly. Search opinions for 'camera' to learn more. 3. After taking a Photo, go to media and zoom it by 2-3 steps. See if there is difference for the blurred look

To anonymous: I got this phone, I am satisfied with it the battery last 1-2-3 days depending by usage, If I use internet (3 g and wifi) with 2-3 hours talking it is lasting like 1.5 or 2 days. I am not so satisfied with '' splash resistant '' as is depending by rain, if the rain is very heavy the phone will not function for some hours till will get dry again. I HIGHTLY RECCOMAND A SILLICON CASE FOR PROTECTION. PRO: Has internet, low price, the clock alarm will start even if the phone is shut down. CON: Is NOT water / shock rezistant, the glass will break very easy if dropped, The camera IS VERY WORST, I can't take pictures ONLY in good light and the quality IS VERY POOR! The battery can't be rechargen only with sony ericsson charger, has no mini-USB or audio JACK. Wisepilot for GPS SUCKS! P.s. Any java opera version will work I have Opera Mini 4 and 6

I was an onborn Sony Ericsson fan. So that's why I decided to buy this set. First few months, this handset worked very smoothly without giving any trouble. But then the problem started. After third or fourth month, Twitter widget application stopped working. It even couldn't start. And then the inbox tab of FaceBook widget application stopped working. So now i'm using its basic mode only. After SIXTH months, suddenly the whole system got stucked. I could make phone calls but the speakers or microphones didn't work and also media player didn't work. Not only that, application also stopped working. So I had to go to the service centre. They told me that they have to flash the phone and reinstall the whole system. So what could I do? I told them to do as they pleased. And also they had to change the microphones and the speaker. After that, phone worked well. But the volume of the ear piece was too too low. But I decided to use the phone. Sadly I just found a fault with its display a week ago. If I pressed the screen, then its getting dim and the colours changed. There is a fault with the screen. I don't know what to do. And when I press the keys, suddenly the phone shuts down it self. What the heck wrong with this set? Actually I really loved this set. Specially its GPS system is too high unit. Its working just like a magic. And the camera is superb. Sound quality is very good. But what to do? My hand set is full of troubles. If anybody can help me, please tell me what to do because I still love this handset.

You are mistaken; symbian os is prone to virus attacks and majority of the mobile antivirus are made for symbian. Windows and androids are also affected by virus. Elm's os is java based and so unaffected by virus; you need not care about. Regarding the pre-installed anti-virus , it is not bad for the anti-virus company if you pay for it..

5 MP camera for a price lower than it's Nokia Counterpart i thought in the beginning (tht's b4 buying it). Little did i know that this camera practically DOESN'T have ZOOM option!!! How ridiculous! Yes, it is technically there, but only if ur to shoot a picture using VGA option in the camera! *Oops, my previous answer should have been in another opinion page... Do you mean the phone memory decreased while you didn't save any file in it? Things that can decrease the phone memory such as: - using the phone frequently for internet browsing; to free some memory open internet browser - double click softkey left - click Settings - right tab and select clear cache, cookies and all history - sending/ receive messages - mms, email, push mail - taking a lot of photos or save pictures - even if they were stored in sd card the phone will automatically creating the thumbnail previews and store them into phone memory - there's a possibility had infected by a virus (chance is little tho) which corrupts the phone memory. Connect the phone to pc/ laptop and viruses scan both phone memory and memory card. - master reset if the problem persists.

The official specifications page and overview (www.sonyericsson.com) never mentioned about videocall capability, only says: secondary camera for video chat - that requires to use a same app for both dialer and the other end's devices such as fring. Natively android os doesn't support 3G video-call option (via phone number) - do master reset if the problem persists

Camera and music are the areas where Elm is better than c5. Elm's camera is 5mp and has all the features like face detection, smile detection etc. Video recording also superior in Elm. C5's 3.15mp camera is good, doesn't have much features than the basic. But it is capable too- it has no auto focus, but has full focus. Various scenes options are there in C5 camera. And C5's led flash is something worth though it looks small in size, whereas Elm's flash has not much use than a torch. Again music in Elm is great. Its speaker has less volume than C5's but the sound quality is great. C5's speaker output has less bass and a bit unpleasant with sharpness. Elm's music through headset also is excellent- with a good headset like HPM-64. The megabass and treble boost are too good; SE always have the reputation for the music output. C5's music output is average with less bass too; even through a heavy bass Sony headset. Apart from these two, C5 is better than Elm in all aspects. Functionality is much above Elm. The UI has the power of Symbian S60. E-mail, document viewers(editor also if you pay), powerful browser, faster internet experience, lot of customisation and more... C5 is a better 3G phone with 10.2mbps speed and a FRONT CAMERA which Elm misses. Memory card is hot swappable. Interface is fast with the 600mhz processor. GPS with lifelong free navigation.. (in Elm, only trial version). C5 doesn't miss anything in Elm EXCEPT Wi-Fi. C5 has as good or better battery life than Elm, C5 also has the smart search option for contacts like in Elm. But Elm misses many plus points of C5- a standard usb port, a 3.5mm audio port etc etc. Elm still uses the sensitive fast port which can create trouble. The speaker sound of C5 will be a little low initially but it is fixed in software update 062.001 . So....if you need a functional phone with a decent camera and average music, the C5 will never disappoint you. And if camera and music is your first preference with a just-enough-functional interface, go for the Elm. Elm is a top java phone having functions like gps wi-fi and all. ..... The issue has been reported to be fixed in R7CA061; the lines being reduced to feeble purple line that too in very low light only. Don't know what happens in your case :( Try Master reset- menu/settings/general/master reset/RESET SETTINGS(You may select 'rest all', but data also will be erased) Still problem exists, consult an auth.service center....?

I finally got the Elm last weekend and I'm satisfied. So far I've never encountered any problems. Never hanged on me or anything. The battery life seems decent, I've only charged it twice (I'm not a heavy phone user). Nice camera, but you need to experiment with the settings cos the photos sometimes look pale and cold. Low light shots are sometimes horrible with lines (it's a camera phone so we shouldn't really expect much). The only issue I have is the phones reception is poor. I'm supposed to have a full bar where I'm at but I'm just getting 1 - 3 bars. Phone calls are still clear so I guess it's not really a problem. Anyway, if you just want a phone for calls, text with a decent camera then I highly recommend this phone.

Really tough 5230 is of symbian and having big screen whereas all thing is too available in elm, whatever else is there in elm not in 5230. Like good camera both produce equal sound better 3g, wifi, as well hardware keyboard even video call is there in elm 5230 has office and adobe reader but it fails due to low ram elm looks like old phone but my choice is good camera so go for elm.

i know that this is a good phone because i love it. it's just simple as that. it's not shiny, it's not touch-screen-e, it's a simple, well ballanced phone. it can do more than enough to stick it to the "smartphone" pricks. there are a ton of app's for it and most of se k7xxi, k8xxi, are compatible. the sound is cristal clear (audio player is excelent +has mega bass), the picture is a 10 star (beats most of the 400$+ phones cameras) both in picture quality and in video rec. quality (25-30fps). the flash works as a torch, and it lights really well at 7-10m. the GPS is quick and straight forward. the modem is really fast (with opera mini is even faster). the phone with out any doubt is excelent. if you liked previous SE models you are guaranteed to love this one. the ONLY downside is the screen (small size). but for this price, it really is a SMALL price to pay. worth every $.

Good. After updation, most of the yellow/blue lines disappear and an occasional feeble purple line may be seen in extreme dark photos; that too only if you look for them- it is negligible. Use of twilight scene can completely eliminate the lines. After all Elm's camera is an under performer when light falls too low..

Camera lines issue is fixed in R7CA061. Update the software. There are a few more improvements in the new version. Menu/settings/general/update Also use 'twilight' mode in scenes for lowlight photos. Using self timer along with twilight mode will reduce blurring.

you can back up the whole memory card and format it using the option in phone. If the videoDj folder is created again, it can be a software issue. And if it doesn't, then it can be doubted that the memory card is used in another phone before you got it(?) If there is a software issue, it can be corrected by updating through pc using SE update service. Btw, does your phone have a front camera?

Hey everyone. I plan to get a new phone and SE Elm seems a good choice. Anyway, I was wondering what's the difference between this and Hazel besides the form and screen size? I know Elm is about $25 cheaper (where I live) than Hazel but that's not really an issue. I want a phone with a decent camera. I don't think I'll be using the internet on the phone much because I'm always in front a computer, I'll probably use it for occasional email and chat but nothing too extreme. The video playback is capable to run 640x480 res @30 fps, but: To keep the video syncronize with the sound I suggest to lower the fps between 15 - 24, video bitrate @768 average so you can set the sound in aac stereo without lagging or skipping the video.

1) You can order prints of your photos through snapfish(from HP), if your country is supported. The snapfish file that you mentioned is created when you select the 'order prints' option while browsing photos in media center. You can get the created date from file options>information. X8 is better than Elm in every aspects except camera and battery eff. Out of the box, Elm has much better multi media player and audio quality, but for X8 you can download good music player and video player apps. from Android Market or other android dedicated sites that would improve its multi media experience. Not to mention the availability of thousands applications for android os such as office apps, productivity, social, finance, entertainment applications etc. But then again you shouldn't expect to much from its camera, it's among the worst compare with mobile camera esp SE's.

Thanks for your comments. 1. Regarding the widgets; did you restart the phone after the update? If not do it now. (Facebook and twitter widgets do have some problems EXCEPT in 3G network) 2. There is scarcely a chance for software update affecting fps; are you sure? As we know, fps will be less in low light conditions. So try taking a video in full light. 3. I think You can give it to the service center for one day; it is upto you anyway. But you may also try re-installing the software through computer before that. 4. Go to mobileddl. com. There are many games an apps in there like dictionaries. You must have internet settings provided by your network to use the browser and wifi. Before you use wifi, have an internet settings set up first. Ask from your operator to enjoy elm's nice browser. I am using it now.

C5 is a symbian phone. A symbian phone can have more support of utility applications over a java phone. For example, office documents may be opened directly and edited. Java apps have only limited scope in this regard. Elm has a superior camera-a full featured 5mp camera lacking only a xenon flash-in comparison with the 3.15 camera of C5. Video recording also much better @30fps in Elm compared to 15fps in C5. Again C5 is better in terms of 3G; it supports HSDPA upto 10.2mb/s-so you have a faster 3G modem if your network provides such high speeds- whereas elm having only 7.2mb/s which is not bad though. C5 has a front camera also which Elm doesn't have. So it depends on your style of use. But I presume that You are not a long term SE user because most of the SE users are fans of SE's UI, camera and music quality!! They don't generally get confused between Nokia and SE.

i am using this phone for about 4 months. And i tell u that this is a very good phone for the features it provide and the money it costs. Camera is awesome, especially the videos because of 30fps and mp4 recording. Music quality through my walkman earphones is great. The stock ones are not that great. Every feature works like it should but only downside i found is the startup is really slow. But i guess that can be neglected as u dont usually restart ur phone. I have one query though. Last week my elm fell in water. It stopped working so i got it repaired at an authorised service center. Phone is working fine now, after the servicing there was moisture inside the camera. It cleared out slowly. But now there are now very small black patches inside the lens. They are visible whenever i zoom a little or view the pics on the pc. Is there any way i can correct this?

Music quality through earphones is excellent. Megabass is there. No manual equaliser, but preset equalisers are satisfactory. Perhaps You'll have to buy a good quality headset; HPM-64 is fine. Display is very good. Brightness is less; to know more about this, search for 'brightness' in the search opinions box above.

This phone is realy a nice one. . everything onboard the phone is grate! Walkmate, Gps, Nice display white good camera. The only thing to blame is the sound output.. no support for 3,5 plugg. But overal a nice phone that can do much like the more expensive smartphones can do.

im little bit dissapointed with elm's weak signal, my k810i is more stable in reception compared to elm, it can easily pickup 3g signal, even areas in our house that has poor reception....so i use my k810 more often when calling and surfing the net when im in my room....but it is different story when im outside,...if only they didnt put the antenna at the bottom part and put usb charging port and 3.5mm jack instead of traditional fast port...it will be much sweeter...xenon flash included, perfect!

Actually SE release the phone in 2 models: J10i2 which has no video-call camera and model J10 with video-call cam with no aGPS and Wi-Fi. Unfortunately the J10 model is hard to be found in every markets and seems to be a secret project, hehe...

yes elm support video calling..first your sim should be 3G..if u have already 3g sim...then first u go to setting>>mobile networks>>select SIM/3G OPTION.....NOW IF YOUR PHONE SHOWING 3G , then now you are able to calling video calling .....sometime in your particular area , there may be not 3g network for same 3g sim ....so dont worry go to the another 3g area.......remind one thing for video calling opposite side should be video calling facility....kkkk

Yes, Elm supports video call. There is no front camera, so seeing each other and talking is difficult. You can show the partner, whatever the rear camera sees. During the call you can switch between camera and video share mode using left-right navigation keys. The video share mode takes you to thumbnails of saved videos and images, the other end can see the one you select. There are also options for turning camera on-off, light on-off, switch between normal voice call and video call, change the video quality etc.

It is not an issue with the light sensor, but the maximum brightness is reduced to 80% in Elm by default, targeting optimum battery efficiency. The screen appears a bit dim-that is agreed. But the problem appears a little puffed-up since most of us are used to with much illuminated screens. So I advise you to be patient for 2-3 weeks after which it may not be a problem for you and may be comfortable for eyes.

everything is Ok but,the LCD light is too bad,when u change the brightness to 100%,it looks only 10%.it can't be adjust normaly,the sensor is not at the correct place(very deep)and so can not recognize the brightness of atmosphere,I hope the company can solve this problem:/

i am using elm from last one year this is the no.1 product. music 10. if u use hpm-62 and mega boss hpm-64 camera 10 wifi is so better if u want to use net & youtube please download opera 4.3 im so happy with with my loving elm so clear voice calls even in noisy area if u enabled noise sheild.

hi friends , its a cool phone using its noise cancellation u can hear a clear sound while speaking but note follow instruction how to handle phone .. camera is very great in day light but not in dark areas but even though we can adjust setting video clarity is awesome... battery is really good since its a eco friendly set sound is low ,through headset good, and radiation from this set is low i think so ...
