Without a doubt a fantastic and timeless design. Especially in white. I still have this, and replaced it with the Xperia Z (C6603) in 2014. The only issue I had with the Arc S was the bezel cracking (widely documented design flaw) above the proximity sensor. My phone is still intact but the crack is an eye-sore. Aside from that, was a great phone which I still use as an offline (and keep-at-home) music player.

Hardware-wise, the SO-02C is slightly different (has an IR next to the camera). Software-wise, the SO-02C has Japanese-carrier (NTT Docomo) bloatware which are completely useless outside of Japan. You're better off sticking with the international firmware. Would recommend the stock ICS but with all the bloatware removed (not disabled); the LT18 is slow but usable today.

Do a search on google: Sony ericsson Xperia Arc S xda.On that site you should find out any custom android version you want for your phone. But I strongly recommend you to not flash anything higher than android 4.4 kitkat because those newer versions will be much laggier even than your current stock version. KitKat is the fastest android you could find for a 512MB or even 1gb of RAM phone.

i have had this phone for the last 5 years. i am sure it's one of the best, although the specifics are low standard nowadays. its camera is high standard though. i have tortured the phone in any possible way, i have thrown it in the bathtub, i have almost smashed it with heavy things by accident, the last year i have broken the back of it and it is almost open, with the battery exposed etc, and yet, IT WORKS JUST FINE. i am sure it can last for another year or so but it's time to say goodbye. one of the best. thank you for all the times and all the photos

I've had it for 4 years, it has fallen multiple times but only the cover broke a bit and this because I dropped it from 1.5 meters high on a rocky road. The screen is intact. Only disadvantage is that it has started to freeze sometimes and has no more space for apps, since the apps keep upgrading and need more space and some of them don't even get stored in memory card. I will keep having it though for a year or so, then I'll go for an iPhone 6 and hopefully it will cost less by then. :)

i've got this phone for more than 4 years. This is a good phone very hard to break. it fall a lot of time, but always working good now. Low spec indeed but do the work. You will hate this phone if you keep using offical rom. Root it, install a CM rom, and the xperia arc got a second life. Really. I use knightly KitKat, Rooted, ext-sd for more internal space.

Good phone low ram however but still better then a lot of other phones nice screen camera at the time isn't bad better then average as some shots r pretty cr%% Internet data its a killer with very fast again compared to a few other brands only wish as below it would be rooted correctly to remove the apps the phone struggles with it running just one two apps at a Time graphics r lush tho. Don't believe these should be selling so high and I actually believe phones that r more poor construction r more popular. Use this until u get your hands on a Z3/Z4/ or Z5

Clear and vivid... photos appear way better than other phone brands... I also like it's HDMI out feature. I can just bring the cable with me and ut would work on any HDMI capable TV. I am a music lover, since the Walkman days...I am a fan of Sony... The phone's audio output is great. I love it on my Jabra Clipper.

Three years of owning Xperia arc, I can say that it is the most reliable phone I've ever had in my life, and probably will ever have. When buying, had a choice between iphone 4 or Arc, and preferred arc due to a much superior design and larger screen. First year was flawless,not a single lag not performance drop. Loved every minute with it,no matter if it was gaming or calling or Web surfing.then inevitably performance was decreasing due to double and quad core phones being released. This forced me into custom modding of the phone, and as I've got to realise, there is a lot of development being done even now, after 4 years since the phone was released,which falls a lot about the story behind the Arc. Eventually the body of the phone started to fall apart,as due to busy life style,dropped the phone on everyday basis,but never had a crack on the screen,and the frame of the phone was sustaining drops over 2 meters. I was highly impressed with this phone and how even when I tried to break it,it didn't give up. The only thing that I can say to a company now called Sony, you had lost a great opportunity to win the market that year by releasing single core phone,at the time when galaxy s2 was released,which was only popular because of performance. A great and reliable phone that could be second game changer after iphone, but now is forgotten...

i've been using sony xperia arc s for 2 years now. it falls many time but its still working well. memory is low so i have limits with what kind of application i can usa. i once had problem for 6 months upon powering it on. then i have found out that i just have to fully charge it before turning it on. if possible use your own cable when charging so you wont be having problem about touching the screen. anti scratch protection is true...upto now my phone screen still looks new. no front camera. all in all i like the phone cause even thought i'm careless and it falls all the time, its still functioning like new.

i had this problem once. Simply enter go to messages just like you're about to write then press and hold on the empty space in the middle an option then would appear choose international keyboard. ;) hope i helped.

After 26 months of using this, I finally would let my LT18i retire. Good phone, my only problem with this one is the internal memory. Limited apps to install. I can't even update installed apps anymore. I already moved most apps to SD card. Then I was forced to remove some apps. Everything else is very good. In its 2 years, it was dropped a lot of times. One time, I also had it use as a dash cam for straight around over 30 minutes, one time I did a time lapse for 20 minutes. Yes, it got hot, but it survived until now. I now got my Xperia Z3.

I have been using a Samsung Galaxy Note 2 for a little over a year, but recently my friend gave me back my Xperia Arc S... i have started using it again as i have missed it! I think the over-all design is beautiful and the camera is just as good as what the Note 2 has, and it almost has the same ppi as the Note 2 so the screen is crisp & sharp too. As mentioned by others though i have to agree that the internal memory is just not practical or realistic for use now days, apps are getting bigger and i have i stalled a few minor updates but it has already come up with the "Low On Space" warning... such a shame, this is the main thing which ruined it for me! Mine also tends to get very hot and has always had the over-heating problem right from when it was new... has anyone else experienced this?

Internal memory is only 320MB. And unfortunately, most of the pre-loaded apps cannot be moved to the 8GD card. So even on my phone, I find the card virtually empty, but the phone memory full. So all I can afford is Skype and Whatsapp. No Facebook etc since there is no memory. There are complicated technical solutions for this involving something called rooting, but I haven't tried them yet - but they will free up the phone memory for you. Look up 'rooting experia arc s' on google and see if you want to try that....otherwise, we just have to limit the usage of the number of apps :(

That can be true. Gingerbread for my Xperia Pro was very good, I used another Xperia Pro with 4.0 and it was fine too. I used both the same way. Maybe the Arc S had some problems, which I think is very weird. One thing better about 4.0 is that you can use one launcher that is not compatible with 2.3.4.. can't remember the exact name... Nova Launcher I think.

Just downgrade your phone to 2.3.4 you wont regret it, i just did that 2 days ago is like i have a new phone now :) the 4.0.4 is not optimized very well for the xperia arc s. The web browsing and the ui dosnt lag anymore everything is more snappy + the games are way smooth :)

Tryed everything but didnt work :/ Everything was better when i downgraded it to 2.3.4 gb the phone speed boosted 50% or even more especcialy the browser speed and the ui response.... Very thin and needed a long nail for.you to removed it.. After removing it just clean the screen with a clean clothe with alchohol or just a little amount of water.

Note: It is really scratch proof screen.. You know what? Or why you arc s screen has scratches? Take a close look at your arc s without screen protector.. The factory screen protector of arc s is still intact.. It is a bit hard to remove this. Watch on you tube to see if you have a dought on me. Just see it your self.. Mine i remove the factory screen guard.. Much better screen display and the glass will be reveal.. Try to see your arc s.. With no screen guard.. Notice its just like plastic like.. Because of the factory screen guard still intact.

Hey guys I have been using my Arc S for around 2 years now. I must say it was really an awesome phone only problem being that Sony stop rolling out updates for this phone and it was stuck on Ice Cream Sandwich. So if you guys still have this phone and it is not under warranty I highly recommend you guys unlock the bootloader and install custom roms on it. I am currently Running android 4.4.2 on it. It runs much better then the stock ICS and has a huge overall improvement with performance. Just google akop kitkat arc s I used a guide from droidors dot com. Just keep in mind that this is easy if you follow your steps correctly and that it could lead to bricking your phone. SO DO THIS UNDER OWN RISK.

Have you tries to put your SIM card in another phone to check if you have the same network issues? Also ,do you experience "No Network" and slow internet in every place you go ? These are crucial questions and need an answer to identify if the issue is from the phone , SIM card or from the coverage itself. So , mainly you need to contact your network supplier and reply to these questions to tell you from where the issue comes from . Hope all is well and hope your phone get back & running soon :)

If you're going for Sony Ericsson Xperia Arc S in 2014 when there's a sea of way better phones at very cheap prices compared to that of Xperia Arc S,then you will be doing a big big mistake.I have used this phone an year after this was launched.In the beginning,it will run smoothly on v2.3.4 (Gingerbread),but after sometime you will experience some lag issues especially when you upgrade to v4.0.4 (Ice Cream Sandwich).You will face lag issues while playing games with 3D graphics.The phone takes time to load even the lightest of apps.I seriously not recommend buying this phone.

You can download BBM with any version since its just an app. And as far as the battery issue is concerned I suggest you do a battery calibration and see if that helps.And if you want a custom ROM for your device you should head over to xda forum.There you will find all kinds of ROMs compatible with your device.But remember your device should be rooted and your bootloader should be unlocked to flash a custom ROM.

just remove the sim and on the phone.now check network setting.delete all previous sim setting.now again switch off the phone and put the sim on.now u get the signal.if same problem apears again then i recommand u to reset the whole system setting

Owner for over 2 years, since its launch. Have it upgraded to ICS since its release and i can say i have no lags, no problems. Dough, it lacks some of the "useful" ram when multitasking (eg, browser and navigation or so), otherwise goes good. Putting into settings>dev.options>limit processes, i manage to have up to 180-200mb of free ram, dough multitasking is worse since limiting the number of processes. Yet, it is still very great phone, with awesome camera and design, as suits for a, now former, Xperia flagship. Im very satisfied with it and i will probably just change mask, and proceed with using it, as normal user.

On the other hand you can break free of GB and still have a good experience with 3rd party ROMs such as FXP and LegacyXperia (just don't go for the 10.2) -- it really is that much better than stock ICS. Right now I have LXP 10.1 running very well on the Arc S (it's JB 4.2). Not bad for a phone with such limited hardware (remember this phone was a refresh of an older model, with just an adjusted CPU frequency).

Good phone but there are some things which destroyed the whole experience. 1. Scratch resistant glass is not so great because you get scratches easily. (well there is only fabricated layer of plastic which is not enough to protect the phone screen). 2. Biggest disadvantage for such good phone is lack of RAM memory which is only 512 and in real its 150+/- RAM available for applications witch is way to small. And GB "Gingerbread" as OS version is the only one that gives phone responsibility, when you update to ICS 4.04 it makes your phone such lag that its not useable because only 512 RAM. Phone takes more ram and than you are left with less ram for applications so after you put viber for instance your phone get to 50 free RAM and its painful laggy dead end.

I've been using this phone for 2 years now and seeing other comments,about the internal memory.. Don't get stuck on that! It's easy to root the phone and then be able to move any app on the sd card. I even upgraded my phone to ICS 4.0.4 and everything works great.

The most irritating thing about this phone is its VERY VERY LIMITED internal memory. Don't be fooled by its ability to use an SD card to increase the memory, as once the internal memory is full, you can't add a good number of new applications to the phone, especially important ones that use the internal memory. The next most irritating thing about this phone is a bunch of Facebook applications that are forced into the internal memory and clogging it up, thus effectively preventing you from getting new apps that depend on the internal memory. Internal memory is an issue.. I am unable to update many of my apps because it has "insufficient storage".the only way around this is to uninstall the whole app and start again! Other than that.... its a good phone. The internal memory issue seems a little short sighted by sony ericsson. Had phone for 18 months..

So far I do not see any problems with the ARC S compared to the feedbacks that I read here. It's just a matter of usage. This phone is good in gaming, pictures, videos and browsing. Battery life is taking a while to drain too. I don't experience any issues such as application is stopping all of the sudden or phone turning off automatically. I just have one recommendation to ARC S users, we can save the applications to the SD card to avoid the extra space that it gets on the internal memory this is for the phone to perform faster.

We might have to do some troubleshooting, try this: -make sure your wifi connection is stable -toggle through battery saving settings, if you set it to max battery settings, whenever you put your phone in idle and it goes to sleep it automatically disconnects from any wifi connections. -also, i would hard reset the phone before doing any upgrade/downgrading. -make sure your root ( if you apply ) does not make function error upon your wifi driver, that or make any application's update manager cause any error with both your wifi manager or NIC. thus why I suggest you hard reset your phone.

For my experience there is no problem or any i had encountered after updating to ICS 4.0.4. I also upgraded to the latest firmware and all works fine. So far my phone is more than a year now. The lack of enough internal memory is the only thing i am complaining. Just manage your apps install only relevant and usable apps.

I'm using this phone since 1 year and I'm very satisfied. It is true that there are some inconveniences like 512 Ram memory and limited internal memory but I've discovered tweaking apps like ''link2sd'' witch resolved the limited internal memory problem, then I've found apps like ''autostarts'', or ''gemmini'' for disabling apps to start automatically, saving Ram memory and preserving battery. Of course firstly I've rooted my phone and removed the unnecessary apps. I've installed a new kernel (doomkernel v22) using GB and I'm able to overclock to 1,6 Ghz if I needing. I've istalled ''swapper2'' for having a swap file on the sd card witch acts like a virtual Ram memory, I've installed '' Auto memory management''.......;''hakker's keyboard'' app to have a computer like keyboard... I've replaced the Launcher (go launcher ex) , replaced the browser (Maxthon 2.6.6) and Dolphin browser. And many tweaks. It works great for browsing, watching videos inside the browsers, youtube, gaming, pdf reading, etc.... It works great and I'm still using it. There are no lags, I really like this smartphone. Needs some tweaks but I loved discovering them and applying them. This is a great smartphone with enough resources. For playing a movie it uses 45% at 245 Mhz of the Cpu.

it's the router's wifi security kind. If you have WPA or something like that, change it to WEP. hope I helped..

I had the same problem. Change your router settings to BG and your problem will be fixed. Thus, change radio settings from Automatic to BG. This solution worked at least for me.

Really feeling regret for buying this Phone, Yesterday my sister has updated her mid-range phone Samsung Galaxy S Advance to Jellybean, Being named as a Flagship phone of 2011, Sony should atleast provide us a Bug-free and Stable ICS, They've provided JB to Xperia J which has same specs as Arc S. Arc S works little bit slow with 16GB card . install clean master and android assistant (Both are available for free in play store) . clean cache . kill background processes .this will make more Ram free :) restart ur phone after two days :) but if you really want to do something better for your Phone , and make your phone fast then Install Racing Bean Rom . its really fast and stable Rom . i have used almost 12 Roms for Arc S , but this one is best One but Racing Bean Rom required Unlocked Bootloader ! see my longest post on this thread , there i explain how to unlock bootloader of Arc S , that procedure works fine for Arc too :)

From phone u can`t update your phone`s Android Version over wifi but u can upgrade via Sony PC Companion download the latest Sony PC Companion from Sony website Before updating , check your internet connectivity ! enable USB debugging in your phone charge your phone at least 75% after that attach your phone to your pc / laptop open PC Companion , and check whether Sony companion detects your phone or not , if it detects then it will notify you about Software upgrade is available :) thats it !

Just for one reason i deleted this Rom Sony Bravia Engine is missing in SJB we cannot install Sony Bravia Engine and xloud on CM10 based Rom ! in Super Jelly Rom , video quality of Songs is not that much Good because Sony bravia is not present !

So Far Super Jelly Bean is working fine , no lags , Free Ram is always >150MB Total Ram is 380MB :D in all ICS Roms it was 340MB Super Jelly Bean is better than all the ICS Roms ! i used almost 10 stock (.587) Based Roms ! i Recommend this rom to all people having Unlocked Bootloader. Thank you :)

You can do a factory reset every month. I do that with mine. Be sure to back-up apps, contacts, phone log, sms, and then go to settings > Backup & reset > Factory data reset. This works for me but I think its a shame that I have to do that. Oh and btw, this works on Ice Cream Sandwich version. Don't know about gingerbread.

Root access does`nt effect your mobile .. its Custom Rom that effect your mobile and its stability ! becoz in Custom Rom ,some unnecessary services runs all the time , i give you an example System UI of Gingerbread is very Light and takes less Ram , but System UI of custom Rom takes much Ram , becoz of Customized notification panel , and other customized features ! I've rooted and tried many custom mods like MiUi, cyanogen etc, Now My phone runs on ICS rooted. Yes u guys are right. SOny's launcher is too slow(actually crappy). But the solution is to try other launchers. Every single app and game in the market runs fine on ARC so dont complain its buggy. How to make your Arc S faster? 1. Download MiHome launcher from here (or) download it from any site by just googling it. How to increase the battery life.? Hey battery life depends on lots of things. All smartphones hold the battery for 1 day and thats gud. My Arc S does the same and it could hold it for 2 days if I just use it for calls. 1. Decrease the brightness 2. Turn off 3g,bluetooth,wifi. Just use GSM and not 3G mode. Turn on 3G only when u wanna use it. Now 3. Download notification toggle from here It gives an easy way to change brightness and to toggle. PS: If you are an advanced user, u cud do more things with your ARC S. For any help, txt me in fb FYI here are the 50 things that your ARC S could do that iPhone can't !

Warranty will be void your device will not be capable to receive any OTA updates i recommend you not to unlock bootloader of ur phone if you want to customize ur phone or want to install custom rom , then just root ur phone , install CWM there are many roms available , that can installed with locked bootloader i used 8-10 roms on my arc s , and i have locked bootloader , it doesn`t mean that i don`t know how to unlock ! i just don`t want to unlock it ! Hi I am having a couple of issues with the arc s. Firstly the camera doesn't work anymore, all I get now is 'unfortunately camera has stopped'. Why? Also every time I use google or the browser, after a short period of time it will send me back to google search page or will compleaty close the app and go back to my desktop. Why? It's very annoying. The phone was brilliant when I first got it back it has taken a drastic slide. Can someone help or give advice on how to rectify the problems? Thanks

You should be able to find the solution online pretty easy but if you know how to start the phone in recovery mode just re-install the rom and go from there.

Now i am using this Rom Because ICS Is very slow and after doing several customization ...my phone was very very slow like Turtle :D This Rom(Zelly Cream) is very fast and stable !

I have tried nexus and I do not have any problems with its sms app, but what i was worried about is the camera quality and its performance, as you told me its performance is better than stock os ( sony's stock ics) which is awesome but i hope its camera quality will be good, I just have 2 more questions, which rom is the best for the best gaming experience and do you recommend me to switch from ics 4.0.4 ( official from sony) to cyanogen mod 10?? its has everything but camera does not have touch capture,timer,image stablizier and sms app`s interface is not that good i dont know if u have used nexus or not but its just like that its totally stock and yes their will be an effect on speed if u are using stock cm10 rom, slimbean rom, racing bean rom.

ive tried aokp(jb) on my arc s it is always lagging my friend is using cm10(jb) on his arc s and its fine but you will miss alot of things like camera, keyboard, sms app,etc

i purchased SE ARC S it has many problems one of them is it gets heat up alot and and after heating up it is automatically turned off then it doesnt turns on for long hours. :(

If you use the phone (for internet browsing, Facebook, )(Brightness set to 25%) , it will lose 1 percent every 5 minutes.(Will last for 8 hours) If you leave the phone on standby on 2G/3G (With Data turned off) It will lose 1 percent every 2 hours & 15 minutes. Go for Xperia Arc S bro,i am using this mobile for 4 months,its a good cell. Its slim so u should care. I am using GB currently,havnt update ICS, but i heard also wifi conectvity issur after update. GB is also better. I would suggestt for ARC S.
