Hi Guys, I need to replace my z5 compact and I can get this XZ for a very cheap price. My concern is battery life. Is it really that bad? I don't play mobile games. How's the Screen on time on this mobile? Thanks!

It's been a while since i kept this in the drawer as backup device. Switched ON and got notification on latest Oreo update 41.3.B.2.2. So far so good. Seems like better than previous build. Well done Sony. 2019 and it's still kicking!

I was able to resurrect my black screen issue while using a camera using method from some Sony developer site. Power off, put on a flat surface, press firmly four front corners and start phone while pressing corners. It helped few times but at some stage refused to self fix. Sent it to an authorised Sony for repair but they returned back saying motherboard faulty. Funny enough camera works :) Thank you Sony.

Basically the pgone that made me switch from sony to Iphone, and believe me, I was a heavy sony fanboy, but this thing.. it's a thing of nightmares.. first year I had very little to no problems, but when the second year started.. boy oh boy, battery dying in like 2 hours of use, constant overheating, even only while charging or watching youtube, basically rendering the phone unusable. Never had any problems with sony until this thing came into my life...

No android pie will ever come to this phone. It is stuck on Oreo. Pie doesn't add too many important features for non pixel phones anyway, it's not worth getting mad about. Oreo has over 5 years left of app support (judging off of previous versions like kk and even JB that still get a lot of app support from major apps like Spotify and insta) so it's not even going to affect longevity. If you care about how pie looks then download some apps off the play store or even root it (don't root if you use travel apps and banking apps or similar things as they don't work rooted)

People are complaining about the xz in the reviews but nowadays if you can pick one up for under £100 I would strongly recommend it over most other phones (new or used) at that price. Your personal preferences should always be considered but don't stray away from it because people are having issues, this is the coldest phone I have ever used and the touch screen problems only affect a vocal minority. A very capable phone with all the features you could ever need. People's standards are way to high these days, it will run intensive games like pubg fine (admitidley on lower settings but nothing noticeable) and can multitask as well as a galaxy s9. Plus it looks really good in pink

I don't really recommend this phone, IF you're more focus on gaming. As the performance is good but don't force this one to play any of games like PUBG, it throttles so easy. But the camera is good, not perfect.. the HDR seem doesn't work well, the highlight is still blown up and the darker area is still sometime hard to see (unless you put it on editing apps). The camera will give notification if the device gets hot and sadly this phone is very easy to get hot. The design is great, I like it so much, you can even stand this phone in portrait position. The audio input is great, but the output is kinda out of my expectation, the power of upper speaker is louder than the bottom one but it sounds clear and great, not to mention that this one's good at outdoor condition. The battery is great for the size, I can get 4-5 hours of SoT. The screen is amazing even it's not that accurate, the colors are saturated and vibrant but it's a good display. The vibration is close to iPhone 6s, I like this one. As a phone with $70 is very good deal, but just don't put this one on heavy gaming activities

Had been using this for 2 years before switching to XZ1 compact. The weights of XZ2 and XZ3 are too much for me. Drop this one a lot and only some scratches on the edge. (no screen protector and case) Battery is adequate for me (using custom firmware), not a heavy user tho, don't play game often just browsing, social media, email and light stuffs. Recommend if you could find a clearance for less than ~225 USD, else, go get XZ1.

Just got this one for only $70 (refurbished Docomo unit). So far so good. Camera is good in well lit environment. Dynamic range could be better. Low light, please don't put high hope on it unless you're not a fussy person, it's still useable for social media. What i love most is the sound setting for music. I believe this thing came with a DAC chip and it played so well when listening through better piece of earphones. Love the sound separation and clarity. Again, for only $70...it's better than a lot of brand new but lower tier phones out there!

Just got one of these second hand, and if wasn't for GSM Arena and lack of wireless charging, I would assume it was a 2019 phone. And I come from a Note 9, that I love, but have smashed the screen several times so going back to fast budget phones because it's starting to get expensive with the insurance and excess fees! Anyway. 1. Fingerprint reader on the power button on the right is THE best position, naturally feels comfortable, unlike those on the rear or front because it's never blocked by say a car mount. 2. Sony's skin of Android is aesthetically pleasing and fast! 3. Daylight still images and video is great, but very noisy as soon as the sun goes down (as I know when buying it). 4. Call quality audio is better than my Note 9. 5. Stereo speakers are superb too. 6. Phone is perfectly sized. If you can pick one up used for under £150, you're getting a near flagship from a few years ago for less than the annual insurance policy on my Note 9! I hope Sony can produce a phone like this today with wireless charging and better low light camera, in the same form factor, none of this curvy nonsense.

I don't recommend you buying this phone in 2019... I have the XZ for 2 years and a half now! the phone has his ups and downs but mostly downs... It heats up a lot and when it heats up the battery drains faster... Most of the time the phone lags... The camera is great! But overall it's a fine phone for 2017 not 2019... I'm waiting for Xperia 1 though!

I really want this phone to die so I can justify buying another, but two and a half years old and still going strong! It refuses to die! It's had good firmware and bad firmware but the current one is good for screen on time. Great screen too, much better than more fashionable 2016 flagships.

This phone has proven nothing but to be if not one of then the best smartphones in the entire world, the Snapdragon 820 is more than powerful enough to handle everybody's daily tasks. Gaming, however, may not be this phones strongest suit though, as I said earlier, the Snapdragon 820 is a great processor however, this phone is general likes to overheat on you for no reason, the heat never has you put down the phone in discomfort however if anybody is interested in this phone then by all means, buy one, awesome phones but I am just warning you, these phones just hot, hot enough to even stop you from using the phone, there have been reports that these phones will fail to run apps and do as asked when too hot. If this occurs, not to worry and please stay calm, just simply turn your phone off for roughly 30 to 40 minutes and let it cool down, no boot looping will occur.

The best rom for xperia xz is android nougat 7.0 november. Less heat, no bug, better battery backup. Im using cpufloat apps, minimum temperature on android 7 stay cool under 38°c. Unlike android 8 temp minimum 47°c really hot..

I like this phone but performance seems to vary from firmware build to build. The recent one ending in 171 is good, but if you receive the one ending in 184 don't install it, battery life and phone idle battery drain are not as good for sone reason.

Eh. My Mi A1 open apps faster and doesn't lag. The XZ seemed to hitch a lot, especially when apps update on the Play Store. At least this phone has nicer cameras, great screen and the front-facing speakers which I really like. Got the XZ for $120.

It overheats when taking still shots in low light, picture quality is blurred. get the following message ' NOTE, camera will now turn off temporarily to cool down' just for taking low light pictures, also get the message 'Some functions disabled by temperature rise' during normal use i.e.standby it makes a great hand warmer in winter. It is slow to change screens. I am sure the design works for some people but i have had mine replaced 4 times in 15 months. If someone from Sony would like to explain why this phone has all these issues i would be most grateful. My business partner has gone back to his Samsung as it works oh so much better.

So, very good experience with phone, until you put it into water. Take care, NO WATER PROOF at all, I was cleaning it in my bathroom, with a little water and soap. It crash directly, nothing on screen and then dead. Same problem with and NEW Xperia Z5, after only few moths, dead after immersion in water (some time ago)

Forget it... the Oreo update destroyed the already mediocre battery life i had on the XZ i used to own. Also the XZ just reach the last major update, most Android phones just have 2 major official updates and after that just security patches.

Agree,why smartphone nowadays with built in camera is for convenient sake, the basic concept must be usable without worries.My real past experience is : I use Xperia Sola at year 2012,not a FLAGSHIP or high-end phone, but when i travel to Taiwan it doesn't give me any headache while using it to snap photos and videos. When i saw the guard rotating shift ceremony i just took my phone to record the moment,it was more than 15 minutes and the phone did not gave stupid overheating and force shutdown camera. I WAS a big fan Of Xperia series. Battery life bad! Phone gets hot then super slow even if you delete your apps, reset the phone and even delete your music and photos. The USB cable doesn't fit properly, it's loose and comes off all the time, even if you make sure that is clean and it's not damaged. So disappointed!!

I can still play PUBG with a fair amount of fps with Smooth-Medium settings, not the best nor the worst. Even with those conditions I'm getting Winner Winner Chicken Dinners in Solo. And of course, before u start to rant, u got to know the fact that the target audience for PUBG is on people using newer smartphones with SNAPDRAGON 835 and SNAPDRAGON 845, or even for some smartphones with a newer mid-end chipset like the SNAPDRAGON 660. Why even some mid-end SNAPDRAGON 660 can do better than this high-end SNAPDARGON 820 u may ask? Well, it is thanks to the extra multi-core score if u give a damn to GeekBench, it is able to play PUBG more smoothly than this smartphone. Plus in 2016, high-end flagships are still dealing with overheating issues, let alone mid-end flagships. The SNAPDRAGON 820 may be way more powerful than the notorious SNAPDRAGON 810, but it still overheats, and that's a fact. A few years later, even the SNAPDRAGON 845 probably have difficulties playing a new game in the future, because the game demand increases as the performance in smartphones increases. Think again...

OK, using this phone for 1.5 years now I have opinions. Pros: - nice display, quite good even in direct sunlight - good sound, usable EQ Cons: - the battery is weak, didn't last a day even when new, now I charge it 4x a day - forget using the camera in summer, 10 pics and you get the "Oh sorry the camera will shut down because it got overheated", which brings me to: - it overheats in a wink, from anything - no matter how you lock it, it sometimes just unlocks itself in your pocket - even if it was a flagship, speed-wise it's more like a flagsh*t from day 1 - not sure how but my USB-C connector fell in so it's a pain to charge it since only the last few mms of the plug reaches the port... you move it a millimeter and it stops... arrgh It's my 3rd Sony (Z1, Z3 Compact and now this) and also my last. Will go to Samsung or Apple for my next phone...

Pre-ordered mine October 2016 and still using it, I agree with the overheating part, especially for the camera and gaming. Still getting around 2.5 to 3 from medium to heavy use, playing Dragon Nest M, snapping some pics, and managed to install 3D Creator from XZ2 which can scan using the front facing cam and I have like 100+ apps installed, and at least 20 of them I use regularly. The only thing I don't agree with some, or most of the comments here is the lagging part, because I don't encounter it from my day to day use, and I haven't done any resetting or anything drastic like that, running on the latest firmware as of this writing 41.3.A.2.149 with June 1, 2018 security patch under Oreo 8.0.

The Xperia XZ camera video stabilization is good, but it heats up easily when recording and stops recording automatically and disables camera. Wifi connectivity and sim card signal is relatively weak, thus disconnecting itself from server easily from time to time which gets annoying. I encountered problems of the phone restarting itself repeatedly until the battery died after approximately one year of usage. significant lagging also appears after 1 year of usage. All these are issues i encountered after about 1 year of usage, hence personally I think this phone is not really worth buying for the long term. I have factory resetted my phone and also software repaired it but automatic shut down and restart of phone problem still exists. Not sure if mine is a defective good, but i doubt so as it served well during the first year of usage

I wouldn't say that the XPERIA Z5 overheats more, but instead it heats up more than the XPERIA XZ, because my XPERIA Z5 and XPERIA Z5 PREMIUM got updated to ANDROID 7.1.1 a long time ago, which have reduced the overheating issue caused by the notorious overheater SNAPDRAGON 810 by a lot. It heats up more, but no longer overheats like last time when I first unboxed it with ANDROID LOLLIPOP. Lol, I actually also use that method sometimes to cool down my smartphone when it is warm, but it won't help when I pick it up from my floor, because it will turn back to normal after a while, so doing it won't help much. The XPERIA XZ isn't covered fully with aluminum, though. Only the back is covered with ALKALEIDO (Which is just aluminum, but with added chemicals to make it shine more), whereas the side frame left right top bottom is made out of polycarbonate (Which is plastic). I actually wouldn't mind having polycarbonate for the frame really, when my XPERIA XZ heats up I wouldn't feel that much heat on the sides of it as compared to the back, but the downsides of it is that the polycarbonate side frame isn't smooth to touch. The left and right of the side frame feels a little rough and "sticky" in that sense, but I'm glad the top and bottom of the side frame feels smooth even though I sense the obvious presence of polycarbonate, so yeah, if u aren't that picky u wouldn't have any problems with the design. It won't be as hot as XPERIA Z5, that is guaranteed and expected. But, wouldn't it be a little better if u were to buy the XPERIA XZs instead? It have the same design as the XPERIA XZ, I mean, when I put my XPERIA XZ and XPERIA XZs beside each other, it is unnoticeable. Other than the slight colour difference of the more matte black of the XPERIA XZs and the camera bump (Which looks way more beautiful in my own opinion), there is no differences in terms of design. The upgrades of it are the 1 more GB of RAM, and Sony's newest custom camera sensor still, for their own smartphones, the IMX400 19MP Motion Eye camera sensor, which have noticeably better low-light performance as compared to the older one. It heats up the same or even lesser than the XPERIA XZ in my own usage even if both are using the same chipset. If the price is okay for u, u are better off getting the XPERIA XZs

My friend have a Z5 and she says it overheats pretty often but she only has to put it on the ceramic floor to cool it down lol. I'm interested to get an XZ but its body is fully made of aluminium? After using for almost 2year, the system starts to lag. System starts to lag and sometime auto shut down at 40% and below. Battery drain super fast, normal usage 2-3hr left with 40% of the battery life. Overheat issue and will cause camera to shut down. Too much problem thus not recommend.

Xperia x performance can play all game on higest setting except PUBG(not optimization).Because xperia x performance has (Dual huge heat pipe) to prevent overheating. I have the XPERIA Z1, XPERIA Z2, XPERIA Z3, XPERIA Z5, XPERIA Z5 PREMIUM, XPERIA X, XPERIA X PERFORMANCE, XPERIA XZ, XPERIA XZ PREMIUM, XPERIA XZ1, XPERIA XZ2, basically almost all the Z and X series flagships because I haven't bought the XPERIA XZ2 PREMIUM, and the ones that can still run well for 2018 game titles is the XPERIA XZ PREMIUM, XPERIA XZ1, and the best one as of now the XPERIA XZ2. In the end, we shouldn't blame on brands why is it laggy for this that game, because games follow the pace of how fast chipsets are improving. It is just the chipset's limit, the SNAPDRAGON 820/SNAPDRAGON 821's CPU performance in GeekBench is 3600 for Multi-Core average, whereas the EXYNOS 8890 scored an average of 5000 for Multi-Core, u could see the reason why it lags in the game, other than the optimization and support of the game. I experienced that in PUBG, but it is not as laggy as u expect, unless the 5ghz band suddenly tries to stutter a little which makes the connection go up and down resulting in the game lagging. If u play other games, it would perform like how other SNAPDRAGON 820 smartphones do. Basically the main reason for it lagging is the game's optimization, another reason might be that it didn't get supported because there are a lot of different smartphones out there. I played on either my XPERIA XZ PREMIUM or XPERIA XZ1, both sporting a SNAPDRAGON 835 and tried using my friend's GALAXY S8 with a EXYNOS 8895, it posted the same results, not as laggy as the one u are complaining, but it is still laggy, this is the same if I compare my XPERIA XZ or XPERIA XZs to my another friend using GALAXY S7 EDGE. The only ones that can perform 30fps-50fps are the ones using SNAPDRAGON 845 and EXYNOS 9810. My hypothesis is that 2016 high-end smartphones, which sport a SNAPDRAGON 820 or EXYNOS 8890, are the so-called "entry level" performers in the game. U should know the situation first before blaming it on Sony just like how other people did blindly

It is still worth it, considering how cheap it should be currently, for me I will still choose the XPERIA XZ over the XPERIA XA2. Comparing the two, almost everything is better in the XPERIA XZ, but XPERIA XA2 have some advantages too; lesser bezels, the same 23MP rear camera but with a slightly better camera software, and also battery. If u aren't satisfied with both of them, u can choose XPERIA XA2's bigger brother, the XPERIA XA2 ULTRA. To be honest, it have a better design than its little brother, with a much bigger screen than the two, more memory, dual selfie cameras, and yes, a much bigger battery. But, u will have to think about the price if u were to choose the XPERIA XA2 ULTRA over the XPERIA XZ, since it is still a new mid-end flagship, the price isn't as cheap as the XPERIA XZ, which is a 2016 high-end flagship...

Definitely worth it, i am concerned between both for my sister, she's fed up from Samsung laggy experience. Xz is a flagship waterproof, high performance etc, but i am thinking of picking the xa2 for the upcoming reasons. Speakers, yes the xz has dual front facing speakers but with average loudness, in calls such as video calls only the bottom speaker works and the volume isn't that much, it is more like for gaming and watching videos, while the xa2 has bottom firing speaker with a very good loudness better for calls. Battery, the xz has a very good battery life but the xa2 has excellent battery life. Selfy camera, the xz has a massive 13mp selfy with amazing quality but the xa2 has super wide angle 120 degrees. Primary camera isn't my concern, xz is definitely better but i need just a good camera. Xa2 will get Android P xz mostly not. Xa2 is more compact but thicker "thickness is not my concern"

Wow, that's cheap from the price I bought it. From the selling price which I bought a year or more ago which cost $898 and now cost less than half the original price of the XPERIA XZ. Damn, it is still worth the money in 2018 to be honest, considering the fact that it is still receiving updates as of now plus with a high-end chipset that is still capable to play high graphical games

This is definitely not normal, yet this smartphone is able to record 4k for at least 30min, watch this video. Try first hard reset if it didn't work then software repair, if not again send it to the service.

Using this one since Nov, 2016.. Just have one complaint that it just gets heat up like anything while using camera.. May it be for a selfie or photo shoot or video.. Not allows to use camera for more than 5 to 7 minutes.. A message displays saying phone's temperature is rising.. Some functions may get disabled.. And camera stops due to heat!

I myself have no problems with the smartphone, but because getting a good package is not guaranteed sometimes, u will have to do some research on other users, like Sony's website to clarify if there are any problems

Motorola (in the UK) have mostly been the budget/affordable kings. Take a look at the Moto G5 Plus. Its specs still hold up till today albeit the "slow" updates by Lenovo. And If I was to choose between the G5 Plus and the XA2 I would choose the Moto. Thoughts?

And also, if u want to take a look at SAMSUNG's midrangers, it is not the right time to do so if the smartphone just got released. Not hating on SAMSUNG, but the midrangers that they release are always overpriced, the most recent one goes to the GALAXY A8. Gino should consider this if he don't want the two other brands, but, the main disadvantage if he chose this instead of the other two is the software updates. And even screen maximum brightness becomes lower, in fact not "laggy" but slower with less frame rate, i have that app you mentioned, i downloaded another app to test the screen frame rate in each stamina level, my conclusion.. No stamina.... 60fps Stamina level 1.....45fps Level 2....30fps Level 3....15fps And as i mentioned with every stamina level maximum brightness decrease, i noticed drop in connections strength too. My observation, maybe each stamina level reduces the voltage in the smartphone by 25%, the voltage input of the phone is made up of 4 equal channels, without stamina all channels are active, closing each channel will cause 25% drop in the voltage followed by the overall smartphone performance.

Nah fam. Because the version they are using is the older version, I have used the old version in my older smartphones before, it doesn't slow down the clock speeds, it just stops background services from running, that's it. As for now the new STAMINA MODE, restrictions come in place. The higher the restrictions, u will feel like it is laggier, but in fact it is not, it is just they restricted the animations and made the "laggy" feel. If u have an app to monitor your smartphone performance and specifications which I use it to notice if my clock speed went down after extensive use, the app is called DevCheck, it is actually running at max clock speed. But, making the animations have that slow and "laggy" feel really helps in saving my battery, one time my battery was left 6% and thanks to the battery saving feature I was able to keep my smartphone on standby for 3 hours before going home to charge

I have been trying to "like" my Xperiz XZ sinc buying it brand new at an expensive price of GBP449 last Summer. The speakers has been less than loud (not loud enough for me when i'm on a bus or in the street then suddenly you don't realize you missed an important phone call from you work manager or partner or next of kin and that is VERY IMPORTANT TO ME). And for its battery capacity and the work i do it doesn't last the whole damn day and that for me is DISTURBING. Sony has also decided to either remove some features and "basic features" still are missing (see my other comment thread). So, I am selling it. And now looking for a good affordable midrange phone that has a loud(er) speaker than the XZ, great performance (SD625 & up) and a battery life that truly & realistically last the whole damn day. Of course it must have a good camera too. My budget: up to GBP249.99 Any suggestions please?

ATTENTION ALL USERS!!! After installing the latest february security update on my Xperia XZ I noticed several things: 1. Several apps either crashes, reboots itself or loads slower than usual (Youtube, Twitter, WhatsApp in particular) 2. The swipe up on the homescreen to open/reveal the apps tray has disappeared 3. Power button seem iffy (actual functionality especially the fingerprint sensor seem slow or hit-and-miss) 4. Still no selfie camera screen flash option And the worse of them all.... 5. Doesn't let me charge my phone. I also noticed general performance and battery life has taken a hit. I have DM's Sony Xperia via the social media but they have yet to answer. After my Oreo update, my battery life got messed up, although the phone runs perfectly fine. But my 1st update after the main oreo update got me a beast of a battery. I'm currently typing this with 38% battery at 3hrs 38mins of SOT. Mehn, sony gets me good with this phone. My only regret? i'm using Z5C docomo, if i want to connect usb otg, i switch off the phone, then switch on the phone again when the otg connect, it will immediately detect my flashdisk. maybe you can try that way for your pc to detect your phone. wish u luck

No. The s7 edge is MUCH better in terms of battery life. In fact, the XZ has rubbish battery life. Camera wise, the soft distorted edges of the xperia is dishonour. so no, the s7e has the better camera. The front camera of s7e shoots in UHD, which gives it the upper hand. The only downside issue is the micro USB, or else I would have bought it instead of this junk device (aka XZ). Now I even believe the xz1c is way better than the xz! despite the worse front camera and the small storage.

In general the xz is a better option except the lowlight photography. The design is a matter of taste. Performance xz is better and stable for longer time. Display is a matter of taste between natural colors and saturated colors. Selfy camera the xz waaaaaay better in all aspects. The battery life slightly edge to the s7 but the xz has much stable battery performance for much longer time with the Qnovo adaptive charging and battery care feature. The speakers the s7 has noticeably louder speaker but placed at the bottom while the xz are dual front facing stereo speakers average loudness can never be blocked with your hands. Primary camera as i said the s7 has the upper hand in lowlight while it is the opposite in daylight. Xz USB type C, s7 not. S7 glass back, xz metal back.

Basically what he meant simply means that OLED displays shows screen burn-in issues and other types of problems earlier than LCD displays. OLED does not have a backlight compared to LCD, so it only lights up when the pixels are in use, while LCD's backlight is always on even if u are not using the smartphone. Wow, this phone already released 15 months ago, and here I'm using it for just 3 weeks (bought 2nd hand) and I have to say it's the best phone I've ever had. Battery could last 1 day and 10 hours (6% left) with casual use, data package & wifi, ~ 5 hours of plant vs zombies 2, browsing - streaming (single sim, on nougat). You didn't get it. The burning and shading in OLED pannels especially in Samsung pannels is due to the OLED method itself which is the deferent brightness level between every pixel and the worse is some pixels are on while some others are off, it saves power but kills the display.

LCDs including IPS displays can't switch off backlight, can only dim light. Whereas in OLED displays, individual pixels act as own backlight. So, in black area of a picture, OLED displays can switch off individual pixels but LCDs cannot. LCD is an old technology and it lags behind OLED technology.

I subscribed to the program for all of my Z and X high-end flagships, and u can hide the app tray icon hence u can swipe up to have the app drawer, but do note that the app icons may look smaller even though it looks much more pleasing for me. Well, glad your XZ's battery life is great post-december patch. I'm quite imopressed with Sony's updates but I can't help but notice some bits are missing or needs polishing such as: 1. App tray icon cannot be removed 2. No system side dark theme (not possible via Themes or thru 3rd-party launcher; still have a white background under Settings which doesn't help with battery life) 3. Still no blue light filter under drop down quick shortcuts 4. Speakers still sounding the same (a software update can easily remedy this) 5. Reboot could be faster 6. Camera (need I say more:)

So I guess I'm lucky again, I tested my XPERIA XZ's battery on ANDROID OREO with November Security Patch (Since I haven't receive the December Security Patch yet) and I got excellent battery life out of it. As from what I heard for the November Security Patch, users are getting battery drains when the smartphone is on standby, and I am not getting the battery drain here fortunately, I slept for 11 hours and the battery percentage stayed the same throughout at 70% with WiFi turned on, pretty impressive I got to say...

This is my opinion. You can choose for yourself. You can extend the battery life of your phone with the use of a power bank. It costs additional money and might be bothersome for you. However, you can't improve the chipset in any way (as far as I know). I don't have either phones you are debating between, but between a better chipset and a better battery life, I would take the better chipset.

I have got the latest Oreo 8.0.0 update with the december security update just a few days ago. I did noticed the performance is somewhat snappier but I have yet to observe fully the battery life and memory management. Booting of apps seems generally the same as before and the camera app had some rework if we are talking about the Manual controls - the ISO and other sub settings is hidden in the equalizer button which i thought wasn't there before.

Got my Oreo 8.0.0 update the first week of December. It felt the performance became a tad better but there are still some missing features such as no selfie camera screen flash option, seemingly no stabilization option for the main camera, no systemwide dark theme (not even in the Theme store), no option to remove the apps tray icon, no option to customise the size of icons, no change in camera UI, speakers still sounding tinny (which can be corrected via a software update) and battery seems quick to drain though standby still very good.

So, I've been using my xz for more than 10 months now. At first there was a lot of heating problem. Charging, recording a video and even in high caliber Android games. Then after 2 months, no heating problems anymore. I only have heating problems when I use my camera for 4k even 1080p videos for 30mins. I don't have heating problems since then. I'm using the Oreo update and Gotta say, my camera, performance everything looks superb than before.

battery is shit. I get 2.5 hrs on screen time on 4g and 3 on WiFi. the android system consumes the majority of the battery on standby, so the standby time is rubbish as well no heating so far. Performance is not good as well. the device is unusable under 5% (yes, no stamina is activated).

Hard reset or software repair is always recommended after a new version update, because until now basically no complaints about xz Oreo in general. The p9 lite is capable of recording 1080p 30fps resolution not more, good news that at this resolution the xz can record until the memory run out without any tiny rise in temperature, however then if you wanted to use a high resolution such as 1080p 60fps or 4k it might not record for a long time normally like any other smartphone.

Thanks for the comment, man. Yeah, been using this since it was released, overheating is when you record 20-30 mins long definitely, it'll heat up a bit. Selfie is smooth, the rear camera is hell nice. I mean, to me it is. I take pictures especially outdoors and it's smoothness and the crisp of the photo is really good. I am not b*llshting. Changes and improvements will be there because of the updates. Now it is on Android 8.0, and it's even better. The camera as I have noticed, it's waaayyy better now and specs-wise the battery is okay as it can be but it can survive with average use within a day (camera use, gaming and calls) I recommend this because I know budget-wise it is the best that it is out there in the market. We want good cameras on a phone, fast and comfortable in the hands and yes, the XZ is here for ya brotha. But you can try first, I am not saying this is the best. But so far, it's reliable. AND, inexpensive. :) cheers.

You should have sent it back from the first time you used it and bring a good one, the xz does report rise in temperature and shutdown the camera only when recording video with a high resolution or frame rate like any other smartphone camera, and a normal xz is capable of recording 4k video at least for 30min. If you can still send it back and get another one then go ahead.

And i regret the day when i bough it. Battery is disaster. Normal usage MAYBE 1 day. Last summer i couldn´t use my camera more than 2-3 minutes. All phones tend to warm a bit when under heavy load or while charging. If you called this is over heating issues, you are very wrong and it is clear that you don't know sh*t about smartphones. We call overheating issue only when the phone is heated so much that it impairs the function of the phone, i.e., when your XZ shows some functions of camera is not usable because of temperature rise or your XZ will force shut down camera due to temper rising. That's the real heating issue.

unfortunately it is original and I sent it two times to the company in the UK for maintenance as it is still under warranty. They did nothing to repair it which made me more angry. The first time was after the upgrade to 7.0 which was horrible. The second time was to fix the horrible corners distortions which are shameful on a flagship camera. Even the Samsung's A series take better pics with less corner distortion. I know you Ali, you are every where to defend Sony, be it here or on YouTube. Unfortunately, I was a big fan like you, but this device and the silly maintenance led me to consider other brands now. I really hope the 2018 Sony devices will bring something better in terms of design, camera and software.

3t is way cheaper and a better performer since the ram is, well, you know. Its battery is also better. The xz1 battery is horrible as well. my xz is horrible man, horrible battery, horrible camera and horrible jittery performance. It means that you are filming video with 1080p 60fps or 4k resolution, and this a common reaction not an issue, use 1080p 30fps instead and everything is going to be normal.

These problems are quite common. You could try Warranty. Not sure where you bought your phone, but there is no International warranty with Sony. Warranty only applys in country of purchase.

I am using sony for many years and found devices strong & Optimum. the only reason for sony's declining sales is lack of proper marketing and their will to bundle offer with network providers. XZP was awarded Best Mobile fone of the year in France at WMC2017 held in march2017. lenovo, nokia, Hawaii, acer, asus, alcatel and zte are using near to stock android and basically don't have much to offer in terms of branded application. where sony has their own application database which playstore show only if you have sony device.

Its been noticed that your quite confused with Sony and brand choice of several phones. So, I will help you. IPhone, Samsung, LG, HTC, Google pixel, Oneplus are all good choices of phones as is Moto, ZTE, Hawuai etc, etc. I've been fortunate to use most of these brands through my business over the years, and can only speak highly of them. We have tried numerous Sony phones, but have always been disappointed with the quality and bad customer service. Sony phones have the most pre installed bloatware, that can't be uninstalled. Hence, Sony phones soon become the most unstable and then lag and stutter. Don't be guided by only one you tube video of sony, as you will find a 100 times more to prove other brands better, especially Iphone and Samsung. If you want the best Android phone, then go for Samsung as its has the most features with its highy customized operating system and features than only now Google Android is copying. You need to decide if you want a low, mid or high end phone first. The 2 most respected and trusted and popular brands are Iphone and Samsung. They have built up a strong reputation of quality and features over many years. Sony is not even in the top 10 of Fagship phones in 2017. Obviously there are numerous reasons for Sonys decline of popularity and sales, but its mainly too many bugs in Sony phones for most people. Sorry, but his advice is wrong. Sony xperia phones are notorious for overheating and shutting down. In the past, other brands avoided Sonys problems by throttling down these troubled cpu's or use another chip like Samsung did. No overheating issues buddy from 2016 and later smartphones, all 2015 and earlier smartphones had overheating issues from all brands because the chipsets been used that time were all 28nm chipset, however overheating issues weren't a real concerning after the exploding of 2016 Samsung flagship smartphones. In general 2016 and later flagship smartphones doesn't have overheating issues, even my Xperia x with 28nm chipset doesn't overheat. Display: xz>v20>mate 9 Daylight camera: xz>v20>mate9 Lowlight camera: v20>xz>mate9 Selfy camera: xz>>>mate9>v20 Battery: mate9>xz>v20 Speakers: mate9>v20>xz Performance: xz>v20>mate9 Mobility: xz>v20=mate9 Keep in mind Xperia xz is water and dust proof while the v20 and the mate9 are not, although the Xperia xz has the least speaker volume but the speakers are positioned at the front directed to your face, unlike the v20 and the mate9 it is positioned at the bottom so when you hold the smartphone in landscape mode you might block the speakers with your hand. My recommendation is obviously the xz, Good luck.

The s7 has noticeably louder speaker volume with higher distortion than the xz however the s7 speaker placement is at the bottom while the xz's are two at the front upside and downside the screen, if you are to choose between the s7 and the xz it is worth to mention that the s7 is about 1.5 years old and Samsung smartphones are famous to show its age very early, perhaps the speakers volume of the xz satisfies you because the xz is actually slightly better option than the s7, i am not a xz user but i have pretty much intel i like to share good luck :).

XZ all the way - S7 camera produce cartonish-like photos .. XZ is on another level with its manual control it's a DSLR level (don't be tricked by bad low light on superio-auto mod) - Also sony phones are much better optimized IT WON'T GET SLOW AFTER 30 DAYS UNLIKE SAMSUNG'S - Also if you are going to root Sony has a large community of developers so you will optimize your phone further and won't miss anything :D

I understand that Sony produces THE BEST cameras and light sensors but they suffer from noise, but I'm not a person who zooms in on every picture so I still love the XZ's camera a lot, the low light performance is actually really good, but not as good as Samsung once I compared it with a friend's S7E. I do enjoy photography from my phone and it handles that just fine as long as you don't zoom in all the way. (Who does that???! Let's be real here) But to me, Sony phones are still very very solid, and very smooth UI. Samsung's design never really caught my eye...although they have amazing cameras, Neither did HTC. I liked the 10 a lot but I still chose with the XZ at the end of the day. The bottom line for Sony is... Yes. They are very very highly priced. And maybe to the extent of overpricing, but nowhere as overpriced as Apple.

Guys i think you are misunderstanding something, the memory usage in the sittings actually gives the average memory usage which means, the maximum usage plus the minimum usage over specific time which you can calibrate it between 3 hour.... 1 day.. If you want to see how actually you have free memory you need to use an external application from the playstore, for example, i am using clean master lite and it shows me 50% free memory, same like all other similar apps in the playstore.

I have the latest version and I never experienced any lag at all, except when it is below 5% where the high performance cores went to sleep and only the low efficient cores are active, that is the only time I experienced lag. Clearly there is no defect on my product at all. Maybe your memory usage is full?

I've been thinking to choose XZ over OP5 and S7 edge since I don't care about waterproofing phone. But I really cared about camera. After asking from my uncle which he compared his XZ with regular S7, camera quality on S7 way more better than XZ especially on low-light conditions. But I really like the design on XZ which truly gorgeous and better than S7 edge. But S7 edge is still not my final decision until I get camera review from OP5.

The camera in daylight is astonishing, in lowlight pretty good, the battery life gives you a SOT between 4 hours min and 8 hours maximum, depending on the kind of usage, screen brightness, wifi or mobile data etc...

both are terrible battery life is 3 hrs on data and 4 on wifi. other phones add another hour to this score. camera at night is great only if you use a tripod. the amount of noise you see in a handheld shot is shameful for a phone that is supposed to be a flagship. in these two regards I would advise the galaxy s8. it is much better in terms of battery life and low-light shots.

Am using this device and don't understand why others are complaining with stability, I have mine upgraded to Nougat 7.1.1 with Aug. 1, 2017 security patch and there's no problem with it, doesn't crash, hanged once when using FB, but that's most likely because of the app, not the phone. Battery lasts me the whole day, from 8am to 11pm with about 15% left with moderate use, I don't play games. Am not a Sony fanboy, I am currently using an iPhone 7 as a work phone, and I have a RedMi Note 4X as well, but I kid you not, there's something about Sony's aesthetics and premium experience that makes me keep going back using this phone. It'll be 1 year old coming October 10, bought here in Singapore but with International warranty and it still looks new and feels like new. For people complaining about battery life, I would suggest checking your location services, as this eats a lot of battery even when the phone is idle. Also, if you guys can, don't use the Anti Virus, disable/uninstall it and it'll extend the battery life considerably.

Dude, you said nothing... It got upgraded versions and that's it . Eghm actually 2 upgraded versions (XZs,XZ Premium) and 4 other phones which are (X compact, XA1,XA1 Ultra, and the new entry L1). While after Galaxy S7 there was made 4 tablets, 4 watches , and all the bullshit samsung phones such as J series A series even the S series are bullshit and overprices as hell(ugly too) there was new Samsung series announced C. There are 46 phones "succesors" of the "amazing"s7. Don't really care about that, just enjoying great experience with the phone. Just like I don't care what phones others use. I feel that users of Samsung-like brands and Chinese brands have the inner need to prove their point to others of making the "right choice" they made. did anyone try the 7.1.1 version ? its too laggy , criticat bugs phone dials alone while im in "search" contacts , in "message" app the screen is stuck , and shows like a blinking line on the screen , i turn off the screen , and turn it back on and still the message app is stuck when im in facebook the keyboard just keep on running while writing , the google voice to text app turned on all by itself and start to take the words from my voice . shut down and turn it back on doesnt help . i will try to backup , reset to factory , and check again , but did anyone got it also ? its creepy

Yes the smartphone doesn't have OIS, which helps a lot in low-light. But, there is always that one thing in Sony's camera which is called Manual Mode that can help the photos too. I am the type of person who doesn't care about stabilization for photos, because it is based on the one taking the photos, how he/she take it. Even if the smartphone have OIS, the person taking it might end up taking blurry shots. Try Manual Mode, it is easy to use at the start even. It can give u photos that is almost the same as smartphones with OIS not talking any bullshit or stuff. If u are unsatisfied for the low-light photos, turn down the ISO with Manual Mode, it reduces noise levels even if it is max resolution.

I use this XPERIA XZ as my daily driver, ok? The rest of the series I use it on normal tasks, like looking at Instagram, SnapChat, Facebook, taking photos and play games too. Most of the time I used XPERIA XZs and XPERIA XZ PREMIUM more than my daily driver, because I used both of them to play intensive games and take photos the most, since I found out that they got the camera warning message fixed and can record much longer than the rest of the series. Look, if u don't believe that I got the whole Z and X series, never mind, since u are just a hater, haters don't believe what people say, they hate on it

I've been using my new XZ phone from last week, and I've had the following experiences: when I don't use the phone, the battery power drops almost nothing, but when the screen is active, and I use some basic apps (facebook, messenger, gmail etc.) the percents drop every 2-3 minutes. The battery power can drop about 30 percents, if I use the phone one hour constantly. I've checked the battery settings, and it has showed that the screen uses the most power (about 33%). Is it normal?

I'm not buying a sony phone again. Or any other sony stuff... Why, you may ask - since this phone is technically quite good. Indeed, the build quality, specs, battery etc is good. But.. the firmware it ships with.. is packed with non-removable sony crap. The notorious "what's new" app is driving me crazy. Its blatantly spying on me. I googled some movie on imdb - after a minute "whats new" pops me a notification saying "hey did you know you can watch film trailers in me?" I talked to a taxi driver about phone batteries - when I got home, it popped some notification abut power management. I could go on and on. Basically at this point I can either root the phone and void my warranty, or continue getting mad over this spying crap every day. I cant disable, uninstall or block it. Sony gives me no choice. By the way samsung has an official app which uninstalls all bloatware from their phones. So you guys might wanna look that way. Or any other decent device manufacturer. I'm not buying ANYTHING from sony ever again in my life.

Taking photos wouldn't overheat just a bit warm giving my own opinion since I am using it for taking photos. The camera shut down problem comes whenever u use 1080p60fps or 4K recording, if they remove the overheat control app then it wouldn't have shut down. Gaming performance definitely good, graphic intensive games is very smooth, but almost seldom the frames will drop slightly

Unless that smartphone is as high tech as gaming desktops where there is heavy liquid cooling done on it with some ARCTIC MX-4 thermal compound on the core which makes it cooler than before, or some kind of tech enthusiasts who uses nitrogen to cool the CPU core to the coolest temperature that a normal cpu core cannot even reach, am I right? Even if there is better tech like SAMSUNG'S new cooling system inside of the GALAXY S8, it will still overheat. My friend's GALAXY S7 EDGE sometimes overheat when playing games, mine overheat lesser not even joking. When playing on direct sunlight is where GALAXY S7 EDGE becomes worse, the sides of the smartphone are the hottest place to touch compared to my XPERIA XZ just slightly warm. Secondly, both XPERIA XZ & GALAXY S7 take good photos and video quality, XPERIA XZ looks better in daylight, but when comes to low-light it struggles and GALAXY S7 is definitely better, but using Manual Mode will made the XPERIA XZ look good too. So, for me, I choose XPERIA XZ. Mainly because of the performance is slightly faster (SNAPDRAGON 820 VS EXYNOS 8890) and also not that hot to hold the smartphone after playing games or other things. And because the camera is decent enough for daylight shots and low-light shots. Manual Mode used in low-light eliminates the problems u found on the XPERIA XZ like noise levels, overexposure etc. But for him if he is the kind of person who uses the camera without tweaking anything and using Auto Mode then he should get GALAXY S7. But to be honest Sony's Manual Mode is also easy to use

Update. I did a software fix from the xperia companion on my laptop. the performance is good again, but the multitasking, the battery and the camera are still the same, mediocre for a flagship. I can't afford to buy the XZp unfortunately as I am jobless at the moment. Therefore I will wait for the new xperias or the new Nokia.

Well, I don't know where to start... I bought this phone in November, i.e. when ti was first launched (almost). I had heard amazing reviews about it so I thought "why not invest in a really expensive, but worthy and durable phone?" so I did it. However, in less than nine months, NINE MONTHS, the phone: heats up very quickly, lags and freezes, the battery dies out relatively quickly (less than a day during work days when it's laying down in my drawer on silent most of the day), and most importantly: the power button is hardly functional (almost not at all).... I've been buying only Sony phones for the past five years, five phones (including one for work), and the last two phones (this and the previous) convinced me that enough is enough... pls my xz premium has 2gb RAM and 16 gb ROM, When I installed few apps in it it started working very slow and always shows insufficient storage, any help to rectify that?

The only reason why you say it jitters and lags is because of your RAM. U should go check your RAM since for a user of this smartphone which is me, don't even notice jitter or lag, only one or two times it lag. The reason why it lag is because when your RAM is around almost full, the 4 cores will clock down to 800mhz each, or sometimes lower than that because the RAM is stressing it up

hell boy, I used Sony phones for 6 years now. I know how to use a phone unlike you apparently. the xz is a rubbish phone. seriously, and I love and adore Sony, I still believe the Z2 and 3 were the best phones of their time. (I still have my Z2) the xz jitters and lags even without any stamina mode, the edges of the photos taken are soft and blurry. battery life is horrible like iphones (which is a brand I will never, ever buy), by 5 pm you'll be rushing for your charger. There are many options if the next Sony in Septermber does not impress, Oneplus, Huawei, and the returning giant Nokia. but definitely no Apple and no Lagsung for me, and unfortunately Sony will join them soon to my sadness.

Here is my battery review for this phone. you'll be lucky if you get 10 hrs of moderately heavy use. and still with lighter use, you'll need to charge it everyday. it has battery drain issues, I lose around 10 percent for 8hrs so in 24 hrs expect to lose around 20%, that leaves you with 80 to use and battery consumption is high On average you will get around 3hrs of onscreen time on data and 4.5 hrs on wifi.

The XZ Premium is way too expensive for its specs, etc. The last "premium" phone I had was the Z5 Premium and that did not last long; had to sell it coz of battery life issues and various bugs that I cannot wait to be updated. The problem with Sony i see is they release new phones every 9 months and then then older flagship gets put back in the queue in terms of importance and priority on updates. If Sony release every year cycle and a system like Samsung like low-end (J-series), mid-range (A-series) and flagship (S-series) then they don't have too much of a headache pumping out the latest hardware and then updates would stop after a year or so.

Poor optimisation? Look. Sony phones are somewhat unstable and laggy when released. But after some updates Sony phones will shine and beat all others. For example my Z3 is butter smooth now. More smooth than it was. I agree it will overheat but not much. And yes motorola is smooth too.

Thanks for the very interesting article. But the argument would be that the report is a year old and many things would have happened then. Sony may have the most stable Android OS (a near-stock Android similar to other OEMs such as Motorola, Nokia, etc.) but the biggest problems for them this year is still the overheating, unoptimised software (which is evident by some issues on the app loading/multitasking and the aforementioned overheating) and battery life. I said it here before of my experience. When I had the Galaxy A5 2016 and the Huawei P8 Lite 2017 phones if you noticed both have a skinned version of Android and have inserted bloatware on the UX/UI. Ironies of ironies despite having a skinned Android the two phone lasted more than a day with no charging midday even with use of GPS (Google Maps), Sync on, minimal games but constantly checking emails, social media, news and moderate use of Youtube via 4G and above average use of YT via wifi from 6pm. So, If these example doesn't tell you anything about these devices then I don't know what will. I have done almost all battery saving tips & tricks under the sun (apart from rooting) and I still found Xperia devices to have poor battery life and I'll be lucky if i will still have 30% by 7pm with my M5, Z5 & XZ.

Today my device fell from hardly 1 feet from my hand , the impact was on top right edge corner , it was in hard back case so no physical damage done screen didnt broke , butttttttt the screen pixels shattered badly white lines alover screen and on top right corner a big black shade , screen didnt work , althought it still in warranty and service center in duabi saying the will reply in 10 days either they or going to replace screen or not. Have horrible experience with sony service center and with my first ever sony device. how it possible it fell form 1 feet which normal and it screen pixel gone RIP. I was using sony xz since last october it was flawless for first 3 month since january it was really slow and never smooth at all and now this tragdy happen to me, before i use many samsung device which never behave like this and they survive even hard falls. i am done with sony , going back to SAMSUNG

I think it's because of their Exynos processor cuz most laggy problem comes from this variant. And their TouchWiz. I've tried my cousin's phone which he uses Galaxy J5 2016 and it's kinda heavy and not working well at all. But after I recommended to used Nova Launcher and their custom ROM (sorry I don't know what kind of ROM he uses), it runs like champ!

Maybe it is because of the QNOVO BATTERY CARE technology that is making the phone charge slow. U can turn off that feature in the battery section of your settings, see if anything work.

In that case, i guess much phone lag when overheat during summer, just use s8 and record 4k video until it overheat, and see how the performance drop, My late iphone which sometime i use for hotspot, once overheat because prolong hotspot usage, barely usable and really a pain to navigate to the setting just to toggle the setting off My xiaomi, um that one bootloop because of overheating and the worst it nof telling me it overheat

I am an XZ owner from last year November, Yes when it gets overheat in summer here which is quite hot. Also phone lags sum times and I noted this in this quite hot summer weather. But still phone manages to run without big performance issue.

A device with a newer software version does not neccesarily mean it is "better" than the rest. An S7 might have an "older" Nougat but may have the latest security update and overall UX & UI is optimised hence issues such as camera overheating or poor battery life is a non-issue.

i have a samsung s7 also ..and it doesn`t lag ...trust me and no..i`m not a samsung fanboy ..i also have a microsoft lumia 950 xl ...with 810 snapdragon chipest..who is known to overheat..:))) when i start filming with xz and 950 xl in 4 k..after 2 minute xz is bye bye , hot as hell ..and lumia 950 xl is like ice..compared to xz..and i could use 4k mode on that thing until i have no more space on the phone...same thing with samsung..i know a few things about phone..and is well known that all xperia series and x series AND xz suffers from overheating and camera is shutting down after few minutes..the longest i manage to film in 4k with xz was 8 minutes...i mean...come one :))) i hear some dudes here that they manage to film even 10 minutes like 10 minutes is something to brag about..jesus

Try Samsung and you will see what is lag. If you are Sony owner than factory reset it and don't use any battery saving modes or apps.

it does lag :) it heats up very fast ..when in 4k mode after 5 minutes camera is closing due to high temperature...and yes..i deactivate all stamina related and battery related options , i research all the forums i tried all the "solutions" i found on google...nothing works ..i try differnet app for the camera..some dude here said about opencamera...in the first 2 minute with 4k filming it lags like a mothafacar , and is obvious in the video when u play it ..so stop saying that is our fault..cause we don`t know how to use a fuckin`

It doesn't lag, it just you had the stamina mode on when the phone battery is below 10%, and ghe stamina mode is set to balance mode which will significantly reduce performance in favor of battery life, that why it's bit laggy, if you want the stamina mode and still maintain the performance, change the settings to performance prefered, The thing is, before pointing somenone is paid, learn to use your phone properly, not just blamming other, If you didn't bother to learn how to use your phone, just take an iphone, what you see is what you get, no need to learn anything for about 5 generation of device, it will sfay the same People like you is what make iphone rich

85% won't lag. That is much more than my free RAM. Mine is always around 88% and it never lagged. Check the battery section. Maybe u restrict the performance?

I am telling you the edges are blurry and you are saying use the manual mode...the issue is with the lens, ot the software and it is not my problem alone, check the xperia blog. it is a good phone. but it is way overrated. the htc 10 is a better buy in my opinion. I guess I will get the xzp or the next compact for a better battery life, I don't mind small screens and I won't change Sony.

Hey, don't blame the phone for crashing Facebook, it is none of their business. Their performance is still top tier because it is using SNAPDRAGON 820 so I wouldn't see any "crashes" or "lag" issues. The only problem is Facebook not optimizing their app well. Thats all. Facebook have been always reported for some lag issues. Thats the only app I encountered that lag a bit

Absolutely not.. I just opened so many apps now.. Including video editor apps and facebook.. No overheating no lag. Camera is awesome after I got another app from store (not its original camera app).., even more I can shoot 4k by using its front camera.. The result is beautiful.. Battery is okay.. I got half day battery life while taking many pictures and videos and it was still 15% left..

Ali does Sony pay you or something? I have been using Sony since 2011 and I daresay the xz is the worst mobile I carried. Battery life is on par with my 3 yo z2. not a big difference in camera, and the built quality in comparison to z2 is a joke. and where did the xperia keyboard go???? and why does it overheat in 2017..even the z2 heats less. and performance, not remarkable by any means. facebook keeps crashing and always lags under 10%...the main camera is shameful, have you seen the ultra-soft edges, the super grainy night photos??? the things that deserve the praise are the screen and the front camera. nothing else matters. ps. I sent it to Sony UK as it's under warranty. they said there's nothing wrong with it.

Make sure you are not using stamina mode first level, use the second level instead, if this didn't help then your xz is abnormal, because this smartphone is one of the fastest in the market.

Phone is slow. I went from the Z3, to this phone in November. Ironically, this phone seems a lot more slow than the Z3. I have not been happy with this phone aside from the first 2 months I had it. I cannot run multiple apps at a time and I constantly have to clear the cache; otherwise, the phone runs slow with every program. If I use 2 resource happy apps at a time, such as Google maps and Spotify, even if Spotify is in offline mode, I can be promised that my phone will basically be "dead" for the next 5 minutes.Also, if FB mess. pops up, the phone suddenly come to a screeching halt. Also, when the phone starts lagging uncontrollably, the background, home screen will go from whatever color/theme I have it on to a purely black screen. At points like this, I have to restart the phone, which is becoming a daily thing - not something I expect out of a flagship phone or a Sony phone. This also happens almost everytime I start the camera too and upon starting the camera, I'm instantly told that some functions won't work cause the phone is getting too hot. Also, when I restart the phone, for the past few weeks, I've been told that rchandler has stopped working. Not good for such a premium phone that I use nearly all-the-time. I am happy with the availability of the updates to the phone, the call quality, the quality of the camera images, the design (which I think is where the money has gone), the fingerprint scanner, the resolution of the screen, the speakers, and the life of the battery, though I still wish this was longer. I'll take the shorter battery in exchange for a phone that doesn't lag daily.

Dude that is only happening on some of this smartphone not all of them like bruh....I used this phone for 7 months and there is no problem with multitasking or lousy performance at all. Well smartphone are smartphone. Whoever need bigger ram should not seek it in smartphone because the laptops and Pc still exist. Whoever need better or best camera should use real Camera instead. Smartphone nowadays are already top notch quality even low end models from an unknown company from any ordinary country is good enough for everyday use. The profit margin in smartphone bussiness are razor sharp thin so every company try to differentiate from each other so many new fancy so called features(superpixel,QHD,bezel less,dual camera,2k,4k,slowmo,hires audio,etc) been heavily advertised. You've to be a bit cautious when you spend your hard earned money on an expensive phone, I use a back case for my XZ to protect it from scratches as I hate scratched/dented phones. So its better to get protection than to be sorry.

That's what makes the S7 superior to the XZ because South Korea is much better and more tecnologically-advanced than Japan. Japan is lagging behind when it comes to technology. There's nothing of higher quality in Sony products. They just use components mostly designed and manufactured by South Korean companies. South Korea is the technology capital of the world. Almost every electronic components are produced and designed there.

Don't forget the main reason for the s6(in fact all samsung flagship) boasting QHD display is because the nature of the AMOLED that is less sharper compared to similarly resolution lcd So a QHD AMOLED is barely any sharper than FHD LCD

In my country Sony has limited market as people are more towards Samsung and Apple so price of Sony goes down immensely with the release of new flagship. XZ was highly priced when it was released but it got a huge price cut after the release of XZs and XZp and now it has disappeared from the stores here which is understandable as people like the XZs more considering more RAM and improved camera. Its based on usage. Some chose phones with whopping 4000+mah battery, but if they use more on entertainment and web browsing for a lot of hours without stopping, it will still drain. I used moderately on games for like 1 hour then I stopped and placed it on the table. Sorry, forgot to mention that Mate 9 loudspeakers are way louder than XZ. I have to keep vibrator ON on XZ else I will miss calls in noisy environment, thats not the case with Mate 9. Also, Sony updates their software regularly whereas Huawei is not good at it. My Mate 9 still runs on 7.0 with security patch of April 2017 and that uodate recently came, it was on February 2017 seciruty patch before, whereas my XZ is on 7.1.1 and security patch is May 2017. If XZ battery would have been on par with Mate 9, it would have been an ideal device for me.

I am currently in possession of both the devices and both the devices have pros and cons. It depends what your priorities are. 1-XZ is certainly a beautiful device specially if you have forest blue color and it feels premium in hands, light weight and easy one hand operation. 2-XZ screen is slightly better than Mate 9. X-Reality and Super vivid options are good too. But it does not mean that Mate 9 screen is poor. It is very bright also. 3-XZ touch response is better than Mate 9. 4-XZ still camera is good only if you learn how to use its manual mode and has much faster autofocus than Mate 9. But Mate 9 is equally good with both auto and manual modes. Also, Mate 9's wide aperture mode produces great bokeh. So for me, Mate 9 is winner for rear still camera. 5-XZ front facing camera is better than Mate 9. 6-XZ video camera is better than Mate 9. 7-XZ camera app is cumbersome and very poor. For an example, you need to go inside menu in order to adjust brightness and contrast. On the other hand that can easily be achieved with Mate 9 onscreen option. 8-Mate 9 has far better battery as compared to XZ. 9-Mate 9 charges battery much faster than XZ but XZ has Qnovo feature which doubles the battery life span for longer run. 10-XZ is really well optimized that is why with its 3GB RAM it runs equally good as Mate 9 on 4GB RAM. 11-I heard that Sony phones lasts longer than other, people still are using their Xperia Z3, but I can't comment on that as this is my first experience with both the brands. 12-I sold Samsung Galaxy S7 edge in favor of XZ and am satisfied as my S7 edge tends to get slow with the time and I had to factory reset it. With both Mate 9 and XZ this is not an issue and its been good 6 months since I am using both these devices. Hope above will help you decide your purchase.

The manual mode is not really a manual mode. ISO is buried in a separate menu, there is no kelvin adjustment for white balance, and if you alter shutter speed then ISO defaults to auto. The reverse is also true, try setting a specific shutter speed than go and alter the ISO, watch what happens, the shutter will default to auto. It's not manual at all, it's ISO priority & shuttter priority with 4 useless white balance presets. Yes I've played around with this camera extensively, as camera ui's go it's cr*p. So keep pointing the finger at me by all means, if it means you feel good to be defending your precious brand. But I know when I see poor software, and the Xperia camera ui is just that.

I've the silver platinum XZ (F8332), it's really a great phone but the only thing I dislike is the camera, specially indoors. I know the manual mode has some settings but that fiddle takes some time and you miss those candid moments.

I know how to use it just fine thank you, that is to say I (though 3 months of trial and error) know how to work around the limitations of that clumsy UI, and base my expectations of the results accordingly. There are areas where the Xperia camera set up is good enough, convenience is not one of them. If your going to take the time to stage a shot, then yes you can coax a great result out of an Xperia. But that takes time, for quick impromptu shots (an area Sony liked to highlight as a particular strength in their marketing spiel) the XZ is almost completely unreliable.

There is nothing futuristic about the XZ. The design was ripped off of Nokia Lumia phones. The UI looks like it came out of 2010. RAM is so 2015. Screen size and resolution has not changed for the last 10 years. Fingerprint scanner is disabled in the US. Camera module is now being used by the lowend XA1. This phone looks like a phone from the stone age. Compare it with the S7 which looks and feels very much like a 2017 flagship.

You don't need to download security apps from Playstore on a Samsung phone because it's already built into the OS. Samsung Knox is the best mobile security solution on Android. This is really a great phone from Sony, the moment you hold it in your hands you'll fell in love with it, it feels just so premium. I'm using this beauty since February and I'm yet to find flaws in this beast, superb built quality, great screen, good for playing games and watching videos, battery life is also great, updated to the latest version (7.1.1) it lasts to over a day as I'm not a hardcore gamer, front facing speakers could be a bit louder but no complains as I use headphones, camera is also great but you need to fiddle with the manual mode settings to take great shots. Overall a great phone to buy specially now as the price has gone down with the release of XZs and XZ premium to follow in mid of June.

Have you put your phone at your pocket in your pant, and do wear a skinny jeans, a technician told me never to put your phone on your pocket when you wear a jeans. It may cause over heating and the screen may be damage, in my c4 case it is called ghost touch.

I guess its not bad in taking photos, and about 4k videos I think we wouldn't going to use it at all the time we take videos due to its huge consumption of memory, anyway full hd is good enough and about the noise at dark places when we took photo,I guess thats normal for a camera anyway its a camera on a phone not a night vision, I have use c4 before, its a good phone but I guess xz is way better, Im planning to buy xz before this year end.

OIS is not on the phone only EIS is available. Using the camera was kind of easy. But sometimes I feel frustrated because of the 4k video was not found on the video section instead it was found in the apps section and thats the thing I only hate. I love manual mode more than superior auto totally. Manual Mode takes better photos because of the tuning of exposure value. Taking photos at night the best way to take is to use manual mode. Superior auto makes night time hard to take because of the noice

For me I am also using Xperia XZ dual sim version. But I never noticed any overheating issue after I updated my phone from a system update. The only reason for the phone to overheat is if there is a defect in the phone that is inferior. He should contact his service provider for that

Howz the battery life per cycle for dual sim variant? I am not satisfied with it or may be I am comparing it with my Mate 9. Wifi, data, and location services switched ON all the time, 4 email accounts​ linked to the device, some whatsapp and Facebook usage, few calls, some web browsing and my Mate 9 can easily give me 1 and a half day of battery wherein XZ struggles to reach 22 to 23 hours.

XZ has great build quality, it really feels premium when you hold it in your hands, solid and sexy!! Mine is running on 7.1.1 and it's butter smooth, performance is top notch and so is the battery life. Only downside is the camera which ain't that great as hyped by Sony but it's not worse either and the front facing speakers could be louder. Overall I'm really happy with it.

your welcome delete cm security, and i recomend you to use avg i used cm product on my old xperia l and phone was a lot faster when i uninstaled all apps form them you dont have to clear once a week, in fact i personaly didnt notice that it slow down phone try to switch charger or cable, and after that i think only things you can do is to perform factory reset or software repair, or if you want take phone to sony service, it should be still under warranty if im not wrong or contact sony customer support and maybe usb port is dirty so take a look at that as well

Thanks for your Detailed Answer and pointing out some might be issues.. I am using same charger and type C cable which comes with phone when I purchased. Secondly I always have upto date apps and security patch for May, 2017. I am only using cm security Antivirus as i guess it have more advance features then Pre installed AVG although I have one year subscription for premium but I disabled it and install cm security. Didn't have any clean master. I always try to clear caches memory files on weekly basis. Charging time is same when I powered off approx 20% /hr Keep in mind friend I only having these issues after 7.1.1 update. Thanks Again

how long it takes to charge when phone is off? which charger you have? btw it could be problem with charger, cable delete chache, transfer data to sd, not apps but music, pictures etc.. free up some space delete app that could cause lagg if you have apps like clean master or some similar rubbish uninstal it scan device,maybe you have some malwae or something like that update everything if nothing work then try frctory reset or software repair with sony pc companion all so reboot phone at least once a week

Wrong. The S6 with 3GB RAM is fast, almost as fast as the S7 and S8. Even the A5 (2017) and A7 (2017) with 3GB and even slower midrange chipset is as fast as the S7 and even faster in opening apps than the iPhone 7. Just check their speed comparison in youtube. The latest speed comparison between XZs and S8 by Tech Trinkets has the XZs reloading almost all apps while the S8 retaining most of them in memory. Sony phones are terrible in multitasking. Same 4GB RAM as the S8 and even lower resolution and yet it performs worse especially in multitasking. Exynos doesn't have weak GPU. The S7 Mali GPU has 12 cores and the S8 Mali GPU has 20 cores. They're more powerful, faster and more power-efficient than Adreno GPU. Samsung manufacture the Snapdragon chipsets and they only use them for the US variants of their flagships because they know they're inferior to Exynos. The international variants get to have Exynos because it's the best technology right now. Samsung Galaxy phones are the best gaming Android devices because they're equipped with the most powerful graphics chip and most advanced gaming API. Samsung make the best screen. They really have no competition when it comes to display technology. IPS LCD nowadays is midrange technology. Even Apple are switching to AMOLED in their next bezel-less iPhone and Samsung is the one that will be supplying them with the display. The XZ was much more expensive than the S7 6 months ago. Even that's pointed out in GSMArena's review of the device. It was even more expensive than the S7 edge essentially making it dead on arrival. Who's going to pay premium for a smartphone that has midrange specs? The fact that XZ's price has gone substantially down in a span of only 6 months much moreso than the S7 means that the device is a massive failure. It didn't quite hold up and resale value has greatly diminished.

Absolutely wrong, the xz and xzs are both faster than the s7 and even the s8 which has much powerful processor ironically, the animation of the xz while opening and closing apps is so realistic and beautiful not like the ugly one in the Samsung, and it is the same animation speed stop pretending, 3 GB of ram is enough for a sony to run smoother than a galaxy smartphone with 4GB, and it won't reload any apps in the background in real usage, yes the exynos s7 has slightly less thermal issues than the xz because of the weak MALI gpu which should be for midrange smartphones lol, forget about the disasterios snapdragon s7, the LCD Sony manages to give excellent contrast, brightness, COLORS where Samsung cheap amold terribly failed, excellent viewing angles, decent deep blacks, and it won't burn like amold after few years, the xz even with much powerful GPU and LCD display and slightly smaller battery managed to make great battery life on par with the s7, and don't forget the Qnovo battery, adaptive charging, battery care which prolongs battery life to at least two years unlike Samsung batteries which starts degrading after maximum 1 year, if the xz is a backup smartphone then the s7 supposed to be on par with the Nokia 3310, except the build quality :D.

And, Samsung doesn't heat up more than Sony because they used their own custom Exynos chip and the advantage of it is there is lesser chance of overhesting because of bloatware. Sony use Qualcomm's chip and it is not custom of course it overheats. LCD of course have worse colours than SuperAMOLED just look at the pixel density. No. The S8 and even the S7 are faster than the XZ. The XZ has fast ugly animations that's why it looks faster but it is in fact slower. 3GB RAM means apps reload all the time and the old Snapdragon chipset makes the XZ heats up much more than the S7 with superior and power-efficient Exynos chipset. The LCD display is also worse in every way than SuperAMOLED - worse contrast, worse brightness, worse colors, worse viewing angles, backlit blacks. Battery life is also worse on XZ. Can't even make it half a day with moderate use. XZ also reboots when the SIM card tray is pulled out. It's only good as a backup phone.

The xz with only 3GB of ram managed to get excellent multitasking performance unlike Samsung needs 4 GB and more, the battery life the s7 is slightly better because of the inferior efficient amold display and the weak MALI GPU, but the battery health will degrade after 1 year, while the xz after two years at least, the display of the s7 is over saturated unpleasant to the eyes, yellowish colors at lower brightness, while the xz display produces excellent colors at all brightness levels, in speed test the xz which has one year old chipset led the s8 which has brand new much power chipset in the dust, get over it mate.
