Hi Ahmed. You can order LCD replacement of your mobile in Aliexpress. Try to find the cheapest and most ordered item. I think LCD offered there are generic, but I am sure it will work. Try to read the customer reviews if the item is ok or not. Nowadys, you can find any spareparts of old mobile units in Aliexpress. You may not able to replace it by yourself but once you receive, bring it in the phone repair shop and they will fix it for you (of course you need to pay for the service).

Most (if not all) Sony apps have dark mode, themes are theme's but their is no make it dark on the system level switch. Apps cannot be moved to the SD card but you will hardly want/need that anyway as it would greatly negative impact their could start. There are some apps that will kindly ask you where to store their data (aka some maps & game's) on the first start and you can change that also in their settings. However their is option to automatically move multimedia files from phone to the SD card (settings - storage - miscellaneous).

No issues it just work's, up to date Pie. It doesn't get hot even when you punish it (overtax it), the S835 is rather on efficient side & mono block aluminium body also helps. Only issue whose updates marathon to get it up to date, well more of a silly thing actually as it can't be done cumulative at once.

Well I come from Mi Max and whose pleasently surprised with battery life as I didn't had high expectations especially considering how small is the battery. You can get close to 9h SOT with mixed WiFi/GSM use in a day/day & a half while not playing games & mostly using browser & social stuff. I do like both games and lot of apos but hate social stuff. Go to Xda and read people comments regarding battery life. Best regards.

at present i am using samsung on5 pro, battery mah is almost same when compared to xz1. I dont play games, dont like to use more applications . but i experienced in my past with sony z3 , and sony m2 . my concern at that time is , battery backup is amazing when both ran on factory software, but when they were updated, i dissapointed. camera grain shots, heating, draining...... that's my concern on xz1.

It's perfectly fine, doesn't heat up & Pie just works. SOT will vary dependant from usage & network from 9 to 6h that is if you don't play GPU intensive games which is also perfectly capable of (still faster than S730 and G90T). Display is HDR (10 bit) and their is also suport for Dualshock 4 (with Sony apps among other things). There probably won't be Android 10 update (while AOSP will carry around). It does look a bit retro and their is no stupid things on it, it's not anything extra any more and is it worth it depends how much you can purchase it for. I bought it recently for 190€ and I am satisfied.

The statement is more about how default Sony music app supports the loses formats such as Flac and DSD in high frequency range than how it sounds. Non of the smartphones output reaches the range over the 96 dB (with possible exception of LG ThinQ series) considered as HiFi (at least not true default Android audio output pipeline). When you suppose those using some of the paid music apps & use let's say real time DoP DSD conversion Snapdragons with hi fidelity audio codec suport reach 100~103 dB, when you put PCM to high quality mode that increases to 105~108 dB. LG G8 ThinQ (as that one I have measurements for) out of the box reaches 112 dB in Quad dac mode (108 in regular mode) with default player still you will prefer much more DoP DSD real-time conversion over everything else even with it for everything else. With USB player G8 in MQA mode goes up to 116 dB! Sony Xperia XZ1 is a bit disappointing when it comes to it's 3.5 mm jack output as volume is sub average and SNR is not that good (still enough for 32 Ohm's mid sensitive 100~106 dB cans even with EQ). Sony's DSEE HX while still a far cry from MQA is nice enchantment for lossy (& not lossy) music up to 48 KHz. DSEE also works with videos with default player and it beats everything else hands down there (including nPlayers Dolby Headphones). Where XZ1 really shines is BT audio as it's louder than average, has a good LDAC and AptX support and DSEE HX also works. So to sum it up for pure 3.5 mm out LG ThinQ is much better choice, for BT pairing with something like Shanlin UP2 the XZ1 is a much better choice.

I got the xz1 ans i'm impressed how smooth and fast it is. The only issue i faced and it appears it's commun, is a little bit heating after pie update. The Phone gets à little bit warm for few minutes (then back to normal) even for net browsing or shooting photos, which wasn't the case on oreo.

It's such a small upgrade 3gb vs 4gb there's not much point a 4.6 inch vs 5.2 inch screen isn't a substantial change. Most modern phones today are at least 6 inches. Also the compact xz1 is faster than the regular xz1 as it has a lower resolution so it's less work for the CPU and GPU to render. I have the regular xz1 and across the whole top edge of the screen it's very bright compared to the rest of the screen.

You should have got the XZ1 a year ago at the latest. No point now as its almost 2 years old and a newer version may get released some time in September/October this year. Plus the latest software (Android Q) is also due to release in early August this year again.

My first cellphone was a Sony Ericsson, I have ben using only Sonys never since. But was dissappointed with this last one. Upon 3 months use, I noticed it started to heat up quite noticeably, during charging it got worse, though not avery time. I use the Sony charger it came with, cable is not damaged. Led indicator blinks rapidly when plugged. Then, camera shuts off after being on for just 10 seconds. The "camera is heating up, it will shut off" message appears. Really? I've restored it to factory settings to no aval. Time yo switch to Samsung, me thinks.

Hello guys i want to share with you my experience with such a great device i purchased it 6 months ago it's quit great last week i dropped it in water while i was using it for around 5 seconds i pulled it off then i put it in rice for around 8 hours i know it's waterproof, but it's bit hard for me to believe it Does anyone got into a similar situation ? Had this for 1 year now or so. Dropped it a couple of times and now its starting to Come apart, I'm afraid. Dings in every corner, one piece of bottom frame has broke and felt off. I must say I'm pretty disappointed. I've owned several Sonys, and they all have hold up better than this one. On the other hand, it's the most supreme phone I've had regarding other departements. I have faced with similar problem on xz1. It had a yellowish display that I really didn't like. No option to change into cool or custom mode. I took it to the Sony center in kochi, kerala and I got a replacement this week. Now I can change into warm yellow or cool white. Thanks Sony.

Well, hardware might be slightly exciting, but deployment of Android is really poor, and 'lazy'. Example, volume of ring and notification are one control.... Nonsense, why would I not want silent ring, but loud text notification.

i really love this thing. great battery life. can do 2 days with 6-7 sot doing my stuffs on it, yet it just have a 2700 mah capacity battery. amazing isnt it? its fast, snappy, i love the boxy design. camera, video i love it, but picture, i hope it will improve more. it doesnt get hot even when youre gaming. love the screen quality even its just an lcd, colors are punchy. music apps, i so love it. im looking forward for xz4, im looking for a bigger screen now. hehe.

Google camera app does that very well to be fair. Seen Pixel 3 photos that are better than ones taken with a camera with a 1 inch sensor, even some better than DSLR photos in some situations.

Pie update has has been terrible. Sony is just doing nothing and calling it stock experience. This is the laziest iteration of an update. The phone seems slower than that of oreo, the phone heats up more than ususal even when doing simple things like browsing and listening to music. The camera application is slower, touch is sometimes unresponsive. This update is very buggy in my opinion and sony f******up big time. All samsung fans will be treated to something new and all sony fans have been using the same ******* ui from xperia z1 with minor changes. Never sony again!

The only positive thing I can say about this phone is that in came with a "ok" pair of headphones..... The first thing you'll notice when you turn on your Xperia is that it wants a software update immediately. Fair enough it's been on the shelf awhile it needs to catch up. After it's done updating it will want you to do it again... then again... then again. Finally after turning to google convinced that your phone is stuck in some sort of weird loop you find out sony makes you do every update individually in order. So if that phone has been on a shelf for awhile (like mine) it'll take you hours and hours of constantly updating to finally have the right software. Took me over a week with 2 updates in the morning 2 at night. After that if you're like me and play gps games you'll notice the GPS is crap. Recalling my Xperia from 4 years ago I downloaded a GPS Status and Repair and just like 4 years ago it fixed it. So not a huge deal... but c'mon GPS has been around since the 30s. I haven't needed to use an auxiliary app to fix my GPS on any other brand. Figure it out Sony. The camera and display are both nothing to write home about but whatever... it's a phone and it works, so far. Let's talk about Sony's "Claim to fame" it's "water resistance". I use my phone in the rain. A lot. I live in Vancouver and I play GPS games.... A phone that works in the rain is important to me. And the sony at first did not disappoint. It's screen response stayed good even with a few droplets and it kept going through many a heavy rainfall. But then it started turning itself off randomly in the middle of the night. Last night it choose to stop turning on all together. Brought it to the repair centre and they asked me if I had submerged it in water. I said no... I take it out in the rain but I was told this phone could handle it. It cannot. Now I've gotta wait a week for an insurance replacement and fork over deductible because "water resistant" can't handle rain.

I purchased it last month when it went on sale with a free 32 inch television (still cheap even without TV), had an android P update also by the end of November, and I had to say, I was satisfied with what I bought. The only thing that annoys me is the sim card tray, it was hybrid and not pure dual sim + sd card.

You need a 1-inch senzor for low light photography. No phone can deliver that. You need camera, like Sony RX100... What phone can do with a smallish sensor is to artificially correct photos, so that you think this was a great picture...

If you need theoretical higher specs then, Z2 force... But, for me I'll definitely choose XZ1. Because, it's 4GB Ram never let you feel you are in lesser Ram and camera is awesome! Moreover, the size, display, design, performance and battery is really awesome on XZ1! I'm fully satisfied with it after long term usage. PS. I like moto too... it's my second favorite brand for smartphones

I have been using the xz1 for about a year now and think it is a fine phone. Camera is ace and Sony influence in apps like camera, walkman and screen tech are excwptional. Power saving is good too with the ace battery care and unlike other mobile phone companies they don't patronise you with the tech. The only thing i feel ia a problem and has been on every sony phone ive had is wifi reception, it's quite frankly poor.the range of the phone is not good at home or out and about and I'm comparing it to a Blackberry and an iphone it's the only thing Sony really need to work hard on in their next phones.

I think your phone has other region rom, so it enables/disables some bands, I recommend to download flashtool from their web and depending on your location download and flash the needed rom, eg central europe rom, rus ua kz rom and etc but firstly you have to know your model number.. Some models only sells in us, so if its one of your model and you live somewhere in europe it could be the issue :( But I was experiencing poor signal just because of france country rom, flashing it to a nordic rom fixed any issue

Bought it in October 2018,I hope it would last me a long time. I've heard that the screen goes yellow right after the warranty expires,so I'll definitely be extending mine. The price I've got it for is just a steal for such a great device (300€). Really impressed with the camera,I love the super slow-mo(wish it was a bit longer tho,but hey - it's there so that's a plus in it self). Tried Fortnite on it - it runs FINE. Compared to a mid range PC,I don't even know why people play it on their phones. The fingerprint is fast and gets my CLEAN finger 90%+ of the time. Because of the SoC,I have the fastest LTE possible with my carrier - OVER the advertised speed. HDR looks great on it. It's overall a great stylish device to own. Only thing I'm concerned with is the screen,but I'll have to wait and see

u wont go wrong because both are great,but(there is always that-but)- htc is not that great when it comes to battery life(Sony isnt too,but compared to Htc,Sony has better battery)-as for cameras- my choice would be u11(Sony xz1 is good too)- performance- both are great; the only bigger difference is when we talk about the sound(music)-thats where Htc is obviously better,but then again- no one can beat Htc quad audio dac and dolby when it comes to sound(music).

The camera is more than "ok". The battery runs all the day with my "regular use". The screen is very nice, same with the borders. But there are some bugs, by now is the wifi bug, that only needs a restart. That i think the last updade solved. The phone is realy beatiful, sony is sony!

XZ1 is a superb phone without any doubt. I've the moonlit blue & it's over 2 months old now & I haven't faced a single issue till date. The performance is top notch with fast & regular updates, battery life is seriously good on this beast it easily lasts over a day for me with Wi-Fi on almost whole day, speakers are loud and clear without any distortion even at the highest volume level, cameras are pretty impressive. Overall no regrets of choosing this over the S8 :-)

You hit it right in the head. ;'j I did not have any Sony phone, so I could not speak for it. I was only here for inputs on user experience, because I was stuck on choosing between XZ1 and XZ Premium. I read as far as comments dating January 2018, and I learned that is best to read on what is good about XZ1, rather than on what the unit lacks. I only laugh at the negative comments as I pass them by, because their feedbacks are either based on their own subjective feelings or due to their die-hard-support to other brands. But I can understand them, so I would agree not to engage them on a debate. They are at the stage where they are not capable of analyzation nor of critical thinking. They just won't listen. Anyway, I thank you all, guys, for expressing your inputs ... I think I will purchase an XZ1 within the next couple of weeks. It will be my first unit within the flagship category, and my first Sony smartphone too! Can't wait!

Hi, I have a question. Is it still worth buying the Sony Xperia XZ1 right now? I can get it for 350 euro right now but I can't decide between this phone, the ASUS Zenfone Max Pro and the Nokia 8. I would have chosen the Nokia 8 if it was water resistant but I need to cycle 20 minutes trough rain sometimes and my jeans can get really wet when that happens. So which phone would you guys recommend to me? I don 't need that much apps (20 apps max) and I hope the phone will last for a little bit more than 2 years.

XZ1 has manual mode for camera. Flashlight is plenty bright and battery life is exceptional on the 835 SoC. As for speakers, who buys a phone based on speakers?

Xz1 is a great phone. However you would get the usual Sony downgrades with it. Weak speakers, weak flashlight, lacking manual mode in camera, strange design options. But have in mind this phone has stunning design, pretty good battery life, OK screen and all the smal things that makes it a Sony phone. If you buy Nokia 8 you will lose out on water resistance and get half-baked app experience. However you would gain a better speaker, dual camera mode with ois. You would also get Nokia pro cam options update. You would get a superior build quality and extra screen real-estate. You would lose on optemizetion however. The other 2 I can't recommend.

If camera is not your main concern then go with the XZ1 apart from that everything is great about this phone, faster updates, great screen, solid battery life and headphone jack. Sadly camera on the XZ1 doesn't make a great impact, it can't compete with the latest flagships. Hope it helps.

XZ1 is a complete powerhouse, it has everything you need in a smartphone. The U11 might be good but it doesn't have headphone jack and slow when it comes to updates Sony are pretty fast with the updates and security patches. Get the XZ1 and you won't be disappointed.

I've been using the XZ1 without a case for about two months. I'm not overly careful with it, but I don't abuse it, either. Phone is still in mint condition, no scratches on front glass or camera lens. First time I've gone ceaseless, and I like it. Be a shame to hide the looks and build quality of the XZ1.

Take yoir device to a service center and asked them to diagnose your device specialy the gps module, you probably get a defective device. But before that try safe mode first.

XZ1 user here, anyone facing GPS issue? The GPS is just so hard to detect on this device compared to my friend's Huawei Honor 10 which connects instantly. We both using apps called GPS Test to test the GPS connectivity, while my XZ1 takes ages to connect, even after restart it still won't connects sometimes which is quite frustrating sometimes. Any advise?

Both front and rear cameras are great. You get good selfies in well lit conditions as well as in low light (thanks to the front flash). Rear camera is capable of shooting superb pics with natural colors in daylight, indoors and outdoors. As far as low light images are concerned it does the job well (may not be as good as the S8) but I had taken some pics with my XZ1 in almost no light and they looked pretty cool actually, it brightens up the scene to capture more detail. Overall a handy camera for a smartphone.

There are 3 different display modes in the XZ1, Professional mode, Standard mode and Super vivid mode. Try switching to these modes and see the difference and if the problem still exists take it to the service center. Mine is on the Standard mode and it's really superb with bright colors.

Just get the XZ1, it's not big at all once you hold it in your hands, it's the perfect size and slimmer than the compact version. You won't be disappointed.

That's a nice phone, built well and very speedy. T-mobile volte and wi-fi calling is a big plus (even though I had to modify the firmware to get it). Not sure yet about the size. Feels A LITTLE heavy and big. Xperia X was perfect size for me. Maybe need time to adjust or maybe will have to swipe with XZ1 compact, but afraid that XZ1c might be too small.

I feel ya, I sold my Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge back in early 2017 due to seeing how fragile it is, amongst some other minor manufacturing issues. I got the P10 afterwards, and tried a XZ Premium this year's March, but sent it back because it was to bulky for me. I've put my P10 up for sale, and will be getting a XZ1 after that. The P10 is great and all, but bleh I wanna get back to Sony, I have a mirrorless digital camera anyway, so I'm not really using the phone's camera that much. Looking forward to the experience, thanks for your reply btw!

Exactly! Even the 2 year old Xperia X is running on Oreo so you can expect updates for the XZ1 as well as the XZ Premium for another couple of years.

I use Xperia XZ Premium. XZ1 has the same firmware and Snapdragon with XZ Premium, so these two phones get the updates at the same time. And if XZ1 will get android 9.0 or 10.0 then the XZP will get too.

I bought the S8 before this but unfortunately it slipped out of my hands while sitting on a chair and the screen cracked. I took it to the service centre and the cost of repairing the screen was sky high and to be honest I've never used a 2 day old repaired phone so I sold it for peanuts. After that I saved money and bought the XZ1 which has solid build quality unlike Samsung. One thing which goes in favor of Sony is the regular updates, solid build quality, feels premium in hands, monstrous battery life and camera is a capable of taking good shots even in low lights. Overall it's a great buy and value for money.

It's been over a week with this phone and it's a great buy I must say. As far as the updates are concerned the 2 year old Xperia X is running on the latest oreo update so this will get updates for over 2 years or so. There's nothing wrong with this phone, I've used a lot of Xperia phones in the past and it has always been a pleasant experience using them.

I'm currently playing with the thought of getting a Xperia XZ1, I used to have a XZ Premium for about a month, but the size was off-putting so I returned it. I'm currently using a Huawei P10 (have been since last year summer) it's pretty good, software is great, lots of features, hasn't crashed a single time. When I generally read about Sony phones online I get a lot of mixed views and opinions, people bashing it, people loving it, and something in between. I'm wondering, do they really update their devices about 2 years? How's the UI? How's the general stability of the software in its current state? I almost always read about "X" issue when they launch a new phone, it currently seems like there are some display issues with lines and such. Then there's the recent news, that they are stopping with the current home launcher (except some minor bug fixes) because they're going to develop a completely new launcher. I have to ask myself, will we even get that one of we buy the XZ1, will the XZ2 get it or outright the next flagship. I'd love some user opinions. Thanks.

Bought the XZ1 last week and I can't be more happy. Preferred it over the XZ Premium as it comes with oreo out of the box unlike the XZP means it'll get more future updates, second the XZ1 has louder speakers than it's big brother with a battery that easily lasts for over a day and the 5.2" is just perfect. Not to forget the cameras on this one which are awesome in any lighting conditions, I still don't understand why people are bashing its camera performance, I took tons of pics in absolute no lighting conditions as I just wanted to check its cam quality and they all looked great. All in all a great buy :-)

Yesterday I went to bed with 45% battery on my XZ1 and in the morning it was 43% which is awesome. I would advice you not to buy the Z3 now as it's an outdated device, no doubt it was a great phone I had used it for almost 2 years but as of now there are many interesting Sony phones out there in the market, also Z3 won't get any future updates. I've used the Nokia 6 (2018) and it was a huge disappointment for me as the camera was utter crap, haven't used any iPhone ever as I don't like the apple OS. Bought the XZ1 and I'm extremely satisfied, as it has a great camera, solid built quality and long battery life. Rest is upto you after all its your money and choice, hope if helps.

None of the phone cameras are outstanding when it come to low light photography, there's always a hit n'miss. I'd taken a lot of low light pics without flash with my 2 days old XZ1 and they're satisfying. Overall I'm happy with it's camera which is not a DSLR but takes decent pics.

XZP come with 4K display, bigger screen and glass back apart from this everything is the same on the XZ1. I recently bought the XZ1 and I'm highly satisfied the screen size is perfect the metal back gives solid feel to the hands and it's cheaper than it's big brother.

S8 low light photos are even far better then xz1 i personally experienced it. In day light photos xz1 color production impressed me a lot. my xz1 got great display. Playing asphalt 8 like games I played it continuously for 5 hrs battery drains from 96% to 78% only I really shocked, But using wifi surfing and viewing YouTube drains faster.

Agree with your observations. However, #7, you can tap to sleep using Nova Launcher, under gestures. DTTW, unfortunately, not available, but the battery life is worth it IMO. Also, after using camera, I'm impressed with outdoor daytime shots, less so with low light performance, but overall, camera performs well. Very happy with this phone. Flagship build and performance for < $500.

Sorry, i am not a gamer as well as a camera person. But the few games i tested, Asphalt, Clash of Clans and Zombie Tsunami it ran smooth and there was no battery heating or lag. A week ago i bought the XZ1 finally and here are my observations. 1) Build quality is awesome 2) Call quality and network is very nice 3) We can't change the LED color for calls, sms etc.. 4) New SMS/Messages doesn't wake up the phone, but just vibrate and the led lights up 5) Lot of updates as the phone got released in 2017. 6) Video viewing and audio experience is so awesome. 7) Double tap to wake and lock is not available (already known) 8) No option to make the phone silent , only way is to reduce the volume to silent (kindly correct me if there is some option) 9) Battery, almost 1.5 days with average usage for me (no 3G/4G, few hours of Wi-Fi, 20-30 Minutes of Gaming, few less calls) 10) By default we get Swift keys, so Gboard needs to be installed separately. 11) All the updates given by Sony doesn't carry any Logs. So you won't be able to know what the updates contain. I will update with more points as i start to use it more. Glad i made the choice over Nokia 8/OnePlus.

Today I came across a new ? Problem. Today me and my family went to the nearby beach.. After spending some time when I want to take a snap it ridiculously says camera opens after Mobile cool down. Totally upset. During the summer at our location it's already 43 to 44°C what to do if it refuses to open camera. When it comes to camera I would say rather this phone is not for people who just want to click and enjoy, to squizz all the juices from camera You need to know how to play with ligh and scene in background to get Front page magazine quality. If You're more amateur the S8 and X are more forgivable, but as tests show even X does struggle in low-light. On the other hand S8 to be great in darkness it hasn't got any 960p recording givin it was released same time as XZ1. I love sony phones, sony design so far, and XZ1 is my 6-th Xperia and 4-th from high priced flagship - league (L, M, M2 Aqua, T, Z1, Z2, Z3 Compact, XZ1 Dual). Comparing to Z2 the camera is... different. It catches a lot detail close and is quite wide in landscapes, on the other hand narrow Z2 cam gave me more detail and less noise, but wasn't as accurate in mixed lightning conditions giving results of too bluish or too orange night city shots, XZ1 knows where is orange and where is blue on the photo and there is no dominating hue on night scenes. Other things are true, but depends on model revision You get, My REV 4 1Q2018 is good on battery life and very fast in multiple-tasking, and the memory? You'll just love the 51 Gigs left by sony for apps and games, and put all photos to 64 gigs Extreme Pro SanDisk (R/W 120MB/s / 95MB/s) and You don't have to worry bout space anymore.

Posting my honest opinion as a XZ1 user. First of all, This is an extremely underrated phone out there, the performance, screen, battery life is top notch and almost never heats up under heavy usage. Build quality is excellent and I actually liked the design so much despite of the HUGE bezels (which is not really a deal breaker for me). XZ1 won design awards in 2017 not without any reason, it is really well built and crafted precisely in every detailed. When you hold it and using this device you can definitely feel the quality in your hand thought it's slightly slippery. Camera performance wise, I think it's above average. I've to be honest I have high hopes before buying XZ1 but the camera does disappoint me a little bit, there are noticeable noise even in perfect lightning and under low light performance it just doesn't do well. Perhaps capturing scenes is great but if you're a person like me who likes to take photos of your girlfriend at most of the places then the camera might disappoint you as for some reason, the camera on XZ1 is just bad at capturing humans (lol), you will see there's lots of noise even if you focus on the human object. All in all, XZ1 is still a underrated great performer that acts as a mini-multimedia powerhouse as my daily driver. I just love it!

Sony is a part of the other brand, even in Samsung, remember that Sony produce the other brand phone image sensor. The only downside I see is the sensor aperture xz1 use, I made a research that small aperture sensor has an advantage and disadvantage, when it comes to taking photos with good source of light it can take sharp and crisp photos but during low light there could be a lot of noise since there are lack of light that enters the sensors.

Choice comes down to personal preference. Both models are top build quality and hardware. I chose the XZ1 because I don't like screens bigger than 5.2". After breaking back glass on Z3 and Z5, I wanted a more rugged model. The XZ1 has an aluminum back with GG 5. I use it without a case so I can see, feel, and appreciate the design quality. I'm very happy with the XZ1. Moonlit Blue is beautiful, not flashy. 835 SoC is very snappy, never lags or heats up.

None at all. The 835 SoC stays cool and is very fast. All functions are fluid. I'm very happy with the xz1. Got tired of all glass models like the z3, Z5 and xz Premium breaking. Aluminum back and GGlass 5 seem more rugged. I hardly miss double tap to wake.

Yes the apps can be uninstalled, if u are willing to root your smartphone and download Titanium Backup which I used back then for my already dead XPERIA SP (Please don't be mistaken, my XPERIA SP died because it have been used for a long time) to uninstall, otherwise no. So, if u aren't willing to root your smartphone which can lead to bricking it, the only 2 options is to leave it there, or disable it which is a better idea

I got the xz1 few days ago and it's an incredible phone, before that, I got the huawei mate 10, note 8, oneplus 5, lg v30 etc but no one came close to the sony in terms of battery life or fluidity, it's one of the most fastest phone I've ever used and its battery life is awesome, I get 8h of sot over a day and a half, same usage with the mate 10 and I used to get barely 4h of sot you can get the xz1 for a few bucks now go and get it!

Design for me I would choose the XPERIA XZ1 to be honest, even though it is a blocky design, it just feels more premium overall. Even though I have the XPERIA XZ1 and not the NOKIA 8, I'll say that both can give u excellent performance, even though the NOKIA 8 have stock ANDROID which is a little cleaner than Sony's UI, both offer the same experience of being fast and snappy, and both also offer fast software updates too. Given that u are a very light user, both will give u excellent battery life. With moderate usage on a 2700mAh XPERIA XZ1, it is able to last me 8hrs of SOT, enough for a day of use for me. But the NOKIA 8 will definitely give u better battery life because of the bigger 3090mAh battery. For the camera, both can give u great photos, but the XPERIA XZ1 would struggle more than the NOKIA 8 in low-light because it doesn't have OIS but instead EIS, but it is still a decent performer in low-light if u are able to handle the camera well with some minor tweaking in Manual Mode, basically it is your own preference for the cameras, I would say that the XPERIA XZ1 is more true-to-life with vivid colors and enough detail in daylight photos as compared to the latter. Oh yeah, sorry if I didn't mention about the displays, but I prefer the Sony's one, mainly because they have one of the best IPS LCD displays, even though it is at a lower resolution than the latter, it comes with their own X-Reality that makes the display look even better and realistic

This is the classiest, most luxurious and most comfortable I've ever used. The display is beautiful at 1080p with HDR. The audio is superb. I'm so glad I invested in this device. I hope Sony returns to this design in the near future in some form or fashion. Bezels are very functional and they look great and make the phone look balanced. Nothing much of a difference to be honest, I will still take the XPERIA XZ PREMIUM over the XPERIA XZ1. User experience there is nothing much to say, I use XPERIA HOME BETA for both which I think it should be recommended for those who want the latest home launcher software, I can even do it for my XPERIA Z1, besides u are getting something the same or newer than the home launcher of the XPERIA XZ2 which I also have, hence this is why I say the home launcher is the same for both, same goes to its software, running both ANDROID OREO. For the camera there are only minor improvements for the XPERIA XZ1, mainly in Superior Auto's white balance, but most people wouldn't even notice that to be honest. XPERIA XZ PREMIUM, for better display, and better battery, oh yeah, and also in my own usage the XPERIA XZ PREMIUM can handle heat better than the XPERIA XZ1, as expected, after me testing the gaming performance and watching the teardown video from JerryRigEverything. Back to the XPERIA HOME BETA, if u want to get the official beta versions, go Google+, and go to their beta community, join and subscribe for automatic receive of the beta version through software update, do note that the ones from APKMIRROR aren't the real official versions, they are just released fron different people that may have some mods or fake unofficial versions, so better be careful about that...

I think for u u should get the XPERIA XZ PREMIUM, for more battery. For me comparing my XPERIA XZ1 to my XPERIA XZ PREMIUM usage, I have no doubts saying that the XPERIA XZ PREMIUM managed to squeezed out more battery life, lasting a day from 100% at 7am to 23% at 8pm, with moderate usage. With that said, this does not include any 4K YouTube videos, even though the XPERIA XZ PREMIUM is having a 4K display, but note that it only uses 4K when viewing 4K content, so for the rest of the things u do are capped at 1080p, so no worries with the 4K display. I don't know about the price for these 2 smartphones because I bought it earlier, but all I can say is the XPERIA XZ PREMIUM would be the cheaper one, because it got released earlier than the XPERIA XZ1

Hey, I have this phone for almost a month now and I like it more with each day. The display is really vibrant and pleasing even tho it's not on 18:9 bandwagon yet. Stereo speakers are always nice and satysfying to have. Battery life is suprisingly good comapred to my ex LG G5, you'll be able to get two days on a single charge with light use, facebook and all synchonisations always on. Camera experience is very good, but you have to know how to use manual if you want to take good photos at night. On the otherhand, the bezels are outdated, you can get a phone that has a 5.5inch display in almost the same footprint. Btw performance is top notch, design is love it or hate it I guess and I love it. Sony's support is also great.

Dude, u also have to look at the type of situation u are in, moving the smartphone on a flat surface would definitely scratch it, because of the XPERIA XZ1's camera bump. I am using a matte case which the camera lens are flushed and hence there is no bump present, so u wouldn't have to worry about moving your smartphone on a flat surface, spending a few dollars buying a case would help the protection a lot...

Sony Xperia XZ1: no alarm, can't answer calls, screen brightness flickers, GPS doesn't work on a daily basis, and CRAP SUPPORT from Sony! Since I got this phone I am seeing nothing but crap functionality on the device, and crap support form Sony (aka: 90% of solutions suggested are "update software") and I seriously regret my purchase... Since I bought the Xperia XZ1 the following issues have arisen: 1) Alarm clock DOES NOT RING no matter what I do.. whether it's single-time or repeating alarms (I actually use my old Z5 as a alarm clock!). Already did 3 software updates (as per sony's forums) and none of them worked! 2) Even BASIC PHONE FUNCTIONALITY is broken, as there is about a 75% chance that ANY CALL I get, I am unable to answer as the touchscreen freezes/stops working, and I have to try and relock/unlock 3 or 4 times until it actually responds (if at all!). 3) The "Adaptive Display" has become INFURIATING, as it does't stop changing screen brightness up and down even when I don't move it at all! And turning it off is not even an option, as the screen the screen is LITERALLY invisible if I'm using the same setting between going outside and into my car, for example. I've tried backlight control and without it, and tried every setting i could find.. NOTHING. And just having it at high brightness all the time is not an option either since THE BATTERY DRAINS LIKE A SEWAGE PIPE! 4) I have PROVEN beyond a doubt in my mind and out of personal experience that Sony's software updates DO actually SLOW DOWN THE PHONE! After being happy with my Xperia Z5, thinking it just slowed down over a couple of years of use, it took a bad fall and the sim card stopped working properly (signal comes and goes)...And since "fixing it" was literally more expensive than buying a new one, I went out and bought an exact same BRAND NEW Xperia Z5 out of the box for 200 less. It was working GREAT. However, I kept getting notifications to update the software, so I did... after doing about 5 or 6 updates in a row, the phone LITERALLY went down to the EXACT SAME turtle-slow speed as the 2-YEAR-OLD one!!!! I've tried EVERYTHING, and until now the phone is as slow, sluggish and laggy as the phone I abuised for over 2 years! Sony is OBVIOUSLY guilty of slowing phones down with their updates! 5) The GPS is absolute GARBAGE on this phone! On a DAILY basis the phone GPS stops working and just can't find a GPS signal on ALL apps that use GPS. I've tried everything from software updates to deleting cache to uninstalling and reinstalling apps...etc. NOTHING. And this all in the exact same house, office, and destinations I go to every day, and had used my old Z5 with no issues whatsoever, and still do! 6) The last and most important point is the fact that Sony keeps trying to FORCE ME to do MORE software updates, and I know FOR A FACT from personal experience that the software updates constantly slow down the phone, AND there is a high chance of them screwing something ELSE up. And yet, I still did 3 updates so far hoping it will fix ANY of these issues.. not ONE of them was resolved! Oh, and all this was posted on the Sony forums for support.. not even ONE reply from any of their support teams. So what the )(*&^!#*%^!#*)& is wrong with Sony?! Conclusion... Sony Never Again!

I have both of them, and if someone asks whether which is better, I'll just say get the XPERIA XZ PREMIUM. Yeah I know XPERIA XZ1 got released way later, but since I have been updating them, currently they are up to date to the latest software, and I see no difference between them. Camera, no difference, performance, no difference, RAM, no difference. But the real difference comes down to the display and battery. Battery is obviously bigger for the XPERIA XZ PREMIUM, same goes to the display, a bigger 5.5" screen compared to the 5.2" on the XPERIA XZ1, a 4K display and note it doesn't run 4K all the time, and it will do so if u are watching a video on YouTube, Netflix etc. Also, price should already go down, since the XPERIA XZ PREMIUM is released earlier, I think the the price currently should be cheaper than the XPERIA XZ1 which makes it a better deal I guess...

I had xz1 yesterday... What an amazing experience faced by me. Am using mobile since 2001 starting with Nokia 1100 to 808 preview then changed to you yureka then settled with Samsung s5. But my experience with this xz1 is like awesome. Since yesterday onwards I upgradated this divine around 7to 8 times still there was an update. Those people showing slow motion videos on social media are very professionals we can't capture like that with its fraction of second slow motion capability. But I like it display and night photos like my old mobile lumina 920. Ok that satisfied me at least.

I'm using Xperia XZ1 (G8342) for a couple months, I think it is the best phone I have ever used (personal opinion). Under medium everyday usage, battery remains about 30% (fully charged in the morning), the system is really fast and clean, I liked it a lot. One thing that I don't feel good it's the metal back, which is slippery ;).

Wrong, battery capacity is the most important. From Android 6, battery management is automaticaly controlled. Sony for some strange reason always has lower to average battery life time compared to other major brands.

In my own battery test I tried to use it for one day moderate - intensive, testing the battery life with my daily routine like how I always do for my daily driver XPERIA XZ. From the morning 7am till 6.30pm when I reached home, started at 100% when I left home, listened to music for 1 hour and stop using it for another 2 hours. During break time I played graphic intensive games for 30mins and after that watched YouTube videos at 1080p for another 20mins, by the time the battery is at 68%, no surprise for myself since I use it a lot on games and YouTube. So I stopped using for another 3 hours, and after the 3 hours I again played some graphic intensive games for approximately 10mins this time around, and stopped using till 5.30pm, while on my way home I played music again, and when I got home it was left 52%, rather impressive since the battery is only 2700mAh. Comparing to my daily driver XPERIA XZ, my XPERIA XZ1 have better battery life than XPERIA XZ, I always got 30%-40% for my XPERIA XZ. I recommend this smartphone to u, but I don't know how u will use it for your battery usage, sometimes it is more on how often the person use it, if u are the type who uses it for long periods of time spending on YouTube or games, it will probably be dead after a few hours of screen usage...

5-axis OIS technology is available. OIS allows for sharp photos with low shutter speeds. This means lower ISOs with low noise levels can be used for night scenes. Sony phone cameras can't compete in night photography until they install OIS. Simple.

No doubt OIS is better than EIS. It does help in low-light photos by reducing the amount of shake so u wouldn't take blurry photos in low-light when u compare it to one without the OIS. But in my own opinion, it is up to the smartphone manufacturer's choice, if they have a very good camera software, OIS will be less important, but I encourage Sony to have OIS for their future smartphones, and put in more effort to their camera software, that is the safest way to do for them

I definitely took better photos in low-light thanks to controlling both ISO and shutter speed with my XPERIA XZ1 compared to my XPERIA XZ. Really hope they roll out the current Manual Mode with both ISO and shutter speed controlled together to the older Z series, it is kind of a shame since my XPERIA Z1, XPERIA Z2, XPERIA Z3, XPERIA Z3+, XPERIA Z5, XPERIA Z5 PREMIUM are ALL packing such high megapixel counts, which I am very confident to say that it can do a much better job if they roll out the current Manual Mode to them

Dont know about manual of 19 mpx in all these, but on my 23 mpx one manual preset on 400 ISO and 0.3/1.0 exposure with lower mpx mode, that automates SS at 1/8 s, pretty much does excellent lowlight job with great detail, no blurr, and without any excessive noise. And at 1/8 s I dont even have to hold it extra steady. Heck, even some 12 mpx OIS + f1.7 cameras shoot lowlight in auto at 1/10 s shutter. And XZ1 has even adjustable SS to it all, so I m certain it can do even better than mine. Sony should maybe just add a lowlight mode button to automode, with similar extra adjustments that keep it at 12 mpx, shutter at 1/8 s and ISO up to 600 max. I believe revs would then be more impressed with automodes lowlight details and noise levels.

I did test my XPERIA XZs, XPERIA XZ PREMIUM and XPERIA XZ1 before a month ago, overall they are very similar for the photos they capture, except XPERIA XZ1 have a slightly better image processing than the other 2. I would suggest them that they should put OIS into their smartphones with a lot of effort in improving the software too

Daily usage for battery life is just average for me, don't get me wrong, because I use my smartphones moderately, like playing games for 30mins, watching YouTube for 30mins and sometimes on standby so yeah, but it still can last me a day till 7pm everyday. Comparing this battery life with my XPERIA XZ with ANDROID OREO too, this does have better battery life than XPERIA XZ, and I am kind of happy with that. Speaker quality for other people have mixed feelings about it, for me I think it is around the more than average mark for me. Their front facing speaker have good clarity, but for their loudness...I have different feelings with it. In places like a food centre where it is very noisy, u are unable to hear anything even with maximum volume, my friend's SAMSUNG GALAXY S8 is able to blast out sound at such a noisy place with maximum volume. Yes, I know it is not the loudest speakers out there, but u will be pleased by the clarity and bass if u are in a quiet place, what I like about the speakers most is when u are in a quiet place, hearing music with the speakers is perfect for me. Display quality is sharp for me already, even though it is only FHD at high-end flagship level. One reason why I buy their Z and X high-end flagship series smartphones for years already is the display, it may not have vibrant colors like AMOLED, but, I chose natural colours over vibrant colors. Performance is top notch, no surprise since it is the most powerful processor from Qualcomm. UI there is only one word to describe, "Simplistic". There are a lot out of people out there who want a more customizable UI, but a near to stock UI is best for me, my Z series flagships are still snappy now, even though the performance may not be the same as day one, same goes to my newest X series high-end flagship collection XPERIA XZ1. Camera please don't expect much in low-light situations, it takes excellent photos with Superior Auto in daylight, but struggles in some low-light situations. It can take excellent photos if u are taking lights in low-light, but for scenery try to take it at daylight. I am very sure the price of XPERIA XZ1 is a lot cheaper than the time I bought it, so if u are willing to accept it's struggle in low-light then it is for u

As i know their UI is basically Stock Android with some touchup. u will get monthly security update. Their dislay quite good. dont expect to much like S8 as they using Amoled.

I have XA1 and it doesnt overheat, either you bought it from a shady seller giving you a 2nd hand defective phone or you're just trolling.... Sony has improved cooling system since they introduced Heat Pipes on the Z5 series with SD810 w/c was the only SoC that had heating issues.... You got a defective unit. Most other users and reviewers tell that XZP has a very good battery life. Speakers are not very loud, but still good nevertheless. Performance wise, it's easily one of the fastest, if not the fastest.

Yes, I am sure the sound was bad, simply could not be heard and compared to the sound of almost 4 years old Sony Xperia Z1 was disaster, not speaking about that of Huawei P9 Lite. As the phone was completely new no additional apps were installed, no time for that. It is in the service for repair now. Thanks for the question.

I just really hope their camera software is like their own cameras, with loseless zoom. With excellent control of the ISO, and great handling of the photos in very dark places like one of their cameras reaching until 400000+ ISO. When they introduced the Z lineup, there is definitely a lot expecting it to be taking excellent photos even in low-light like their cameras, but it wasn't the case. Currently this is how their camera goes, putting a normal software on a tanky equipment. If they want the high megapixel count approach, they should rework their camera software from the ground up

The high MP count is the problem I think. Cramming all those pixels into such a small space and expecting the software to work miracles is a but much. Plus having such a high MP count and constantly advertising that fact just encourages people to want to zoom in as much as possible to look at all that 'extra' detail, and that is where Xperia photos fall apart. Up close their pictures do not look pretty, which is no surprise considering how little light (in all but the most ideal situations) that sensor is having to spread over all those small pixels. Sony's software post processing has never been quite up to the task of effectively managing this situation, what ever they mean by "bionz for mobile" (bionz being actual hardware in Sony's stand alone camera range) is not the getting the job done to the standard it should. A new approach is I would say required.

Samsung ui is much smoother on s8 and newer phones. I dont think it will lags like their older phones. If you used their older phones like s7 you can feel it has minor lags even from start using it so it will lags after a year but if you used s8 it feels very different. Zero lags!

The UI of samsung is heavy compared to UI of sony and even other brand. Overall sony has the most smoothest ui that I've seen, running on little ram but performance is similar to larger once. S8 only 12 MP, XZ is 23 MP, if you do the zoom in XZ zoom at 100% but S8 should zoom in 180% because the XZ pixel is almost double up than S8.

That could be on no light scenario, I guess sony have graet sensor on xz1, the huge aperture maybe not that important if their is still light on your specimen for photos. Besides no one realy take photos in total darkes and it is normal to have noise on dark areas.

U are right. But the most important one is the camera software, which is related to the last sentence of yours. The main problem is their software, it tends to crank up the ISO up till very high levels in low-light photos, plus because of the megapixel count, higher MP count causes more noise because of more pixels. I have the Z and X series and one thing I suggest the part they really need to put in a lot of effort is their software. They have the best camera sensor on their smartphones, but they have a camera software that ruins the camera sensor. I am not hating on them, I am just hoping that they can do a better job at improving the camera software, they have a higher MP count than the competitors and as I said already higher MP count will produce more noise than lower MP count which brings to the point that they need to put in much more effort for noise reduction

Having only best sensor isnt enough. It should be combined with ois and bigger aperture. Having dual pixel could be more better but imx400 doesnt equip with dual pixel but the number of 19mp is good enough. The only bad on sony camera is a lot of noise but the details is sharp enough.

Like I already said, at the end it depends on how the manufacturer calibrates the display. My phone, a Galaxy A5, has an amoled display. Samsung, like Sony, allow users to calibrate display according to the user's preference. I can make my phone's display produce over saturated, highly vivid colours, or make the display produce dull and 'accurate' colours. So your argument that amoled displays produce inaccurate colours are totally wrong.

Mostly all my opinion sounds like hating sony phones but hope you all give some read here. My first phones was Galaxy note4 and it was a good phone, but not impressing me at all. And after just 8 months it start running making problems, not laggy but opening app getting slow, gallery app doesn't function at all etc. But then I change to Z5, it was fulfill my happiness. Camera, battery, display I think it more better than note 4 and especially the camera. Im easily beat all my family phones which most of them using samsung phone, especially the biggest rival which that was s6 edge who my cousin used it. Everytime I posted my pictures, they always praised my camera which has the best. I recommended them to change to sony phones. But then I updated to nougat, eveeything was changing, it full of problems which most annoyingly overheat problem. Most of them change to xperria x and x performance and I almost change to x peformance but then xz released. I change to xz, all I can say it worse, especially camera. Camera has 23mp like z5, but I think z5 is better than this, though all my family relatives come to me with many complaints. My xz just excellent in daylight but very bad in lowlight. My brother which he used s7 and it beats my xz in all ways, lowlight was 2 times better and even in daylight its better than my xz. Maybe that time I dont know anything about camera like what makes them better, tips to get better camera and my brother teaches me all about the camera, even why xperia phones has bad camera. Even it has triple image sensing, yet it cant focus at all! Not only camera, multitasking is so bad, like it has only 2gb ram even it 3gb ram but 3gb ram is also failure. And most annoyingly it overheats when taking pictures and recording video. All I can say, my note4 was better than this xz! But then i change to s8, it was a beasts phone! better than all my phones i used even z5. Then I rivalled my friends phone which he used xz1, nothing can beat my s8, just advantages on 3d scanning. Here is my conclusion. The xz was a total failure even all sony phones. It sony itself make it failure. If Sony knows bemefit of ois, bigger aperture, then why they dont do that on their phones? Ipad Pro tablet can use the Apple pencil, it is surely useful than a small phalet when running multiple windows, copy n paste.. Any graphics editing and drawing. A small phalet had it limitations screen size, that is why Xperia Z Ultra is 6.4inch many years ago. Sony design the fingerprint scanner on the side frame is the most comfortable and efficient to access the screen unlock, does anyone copy from Sony? Yes you can find some of the OEM copy it, but 3D scanning no one can copy. Maybe 5years later will be very common just like the AR Sony use it 3 years earlier than anyone on Xperia.

I'm sorry but that's bull. Samsung and many other manufacturers allow users to adjust color vibrancy and temperature according to one's taste. Want accurate colors? Set it to Basic. Want oversaturated colors? Set it to Vivid or Adaptive. That's how it is in Samsung phones, other phones have different options. So yeah, technically AMOLED displays can be more color accurate than IPS LCD, any day. Unlike LCD, AMOLED can display perfect blacks.

Qnovo is proven to be useful in the long run, check it out. Triluminos is not a marketing name for IPS LCD, it's a special screen tech. Sony's been using those displays since the Z Ultra, which did NOT have an IPS LCD display. Quite weak speakers, yes, but only in terms of loudness. Xreality tends to make colours pop it even more, but not as oversaturated as Samsung's displays. However, you can disable it if you want to. Oversaturation is not an issue anymore since most phones have an option to adjust display settings according to preference.

I have an S7 and compared with XZs, S7 is far better than XZs. Why everyone is getting so het up on DXOmark I'll never know. Will say this though, yes they do appear to be altering their criteria based on the market leaders requirements. Why? Because their are the market leaders, where they go, others tend to follow. For example, Apple didn't introduce biometric security, but it wasn't taken seriously until they brought out Touch ID. Sony were doing waterproof handset way before anyone else, but only when Samsung and Apple implemented it did everyone else start to follow suit. That's just how the market works, were Sony number 1, then they would set the pace. Now as for DXOmark now scoring such things like bokeh, zoom and other duel lens features, well of course they were going to now that Apple and Samsung have adopted such tech, from Dxo's point of view it's only a matter of time before the rest follow suit. Is this fair....no, it is business though. Why would they start scoring 3d scanning? what, your expecting all other OEMs to jump on that bandwagon just because Sony have done it? Probably not till Apple have their own alternative will everyone else start copying. As for scoring slo-mo (as I have seen mentioned), well don't be so quick to wish for that unless your of the belief that number of FPS is the only criteria against which it will be scored? Not resolution, dynamic range, sound quality etc. Might just be Sony don't come out on top in that category anyway.....just maybe....

People would think that they are professional smartphone camera reviewers, but for me I don't think so. I rather look at GSMARENA's one, why? It did not mention the other parts of the camera, and it is strange that they focus on zoom and bokeh effect a lot, this is where the bias part comes in, those single camera smartphones cannot do well in these 2 aspects, well maybe they can, if they had Google's machine learning method to train the smartphone's camera. And DxOMark definitely is a Pay-To-Win kind of thing, so how do we trust them? I had never trusted their review since the use of their new protocol, I always trust GSMARENA, they got no hate on any brand, and no one payed them to say good things about a smartphone, they review smartphones honestly, unlike DxOMark...

I just never really took stock in what they had to say. There is some limited relevance to their conclusions perhaps, but I always said to take those conclusions in context and contrast them with other testing site results. Whilst I agree that their is likely an element of 'Pay-to-win' at play, I would simply suggest that this was also possibly (at least potentially) true when Sony ruled the DXO roost.

Yes, definitely, something changed with DxOMark. I once trusted them for bringing good reviews of smartphones, but not anymore, because they had a new protocol which is kind of bias for single camera smartphones which is bokeh, and they make it affect the overall points so much that now the older smartphone points are really just screwed up (Example: XPERIA XZ got 87, and now the new protocol made the XPERIA XZ PREMIUM have 83 points). They should have made some consideration to the older smartphones before having a new protocol. But this isn't the real reason why people don't trust DxOMark anymore, the real reason is because some brands "Pay-To-Win". U may see some smartphones on top of the list which others review about it and have bad impressions of the camera of the smartphone, because they bribe them to give the smartphone a good score. I know most brands wouldn't do that but, there are just some cheating their way up to the top

I've never actually rated DXOmark as reliable. The Sony fans once swore by them, then something changed though....can't quite put my finger on what that might have been :) Marks my words though, reworked test criteria or no, should DXOmark again choose to put an Xperia in the Number 1 position, then the Sony crowd will go flocking back to them with enthusiasm. I can't blame the Fanboys really though, they are easily lead by company rhetoric, and these companies are all to quick to boast about DXO scores like they matter....they don't. Trying to claim those so called Youtube comparison videos as useful in any way though just shows how desperate some people are to make point. They are clickbait, nothing more and should be treated only as such. Put it this way, I currently own a Pixel 2 and a Moto E4 Plus and could quite easily (given the time) produce side by side shots taken by each, then present them on a YouTube video and make you believe the E4 had the more capable camera. I could even find some awful music to go with it.

In terms of recommendation, yes they are certainly way down the list. At least in the flagship space, certain areas or the market show as being somewhat more favourable to Xperia devices. That is to say they do ok in the mid tier with the likes of their XA series, in often see reviews of mid tiers devices where the reviewer will mention the XA1 say as an alternative. The 'Compact' series all but recommended themselves as they are pretty much the only game in town for high power smaller handsets. Flagships though, if you look at the mainstream flagship segment then virtually no one will point to an XZ, XZs or XZ1 as their recommended choice. The 'Premium' line barely fares any better, yes I see a few caveated recommendations here and there, but they always fall along the reasoning lines of 'only get this device if that 4 screen is a must....' Personally (and im sorry to keep coming back to it) but I personally feel this is largely do to the camera experience. Put a Pixel 2 quality camera and intuitive ui on the XZ1 and XZP and I think the recommendations would come far easier. Sony have pretty much everything else right, just one last piece of the puzzle.........

I'd certainly speculate that it has something to do with it. A high MP count on a relatively small sensor with (what is now considered) a relatively slow aperture is going to be difficult to get good results out of across a range of conditions. In some conditions the XZ delivered spectacular results, but it was unreliable and vastly inconsistent. Put it this way, if you have bright clear sunlight and a static image, then the XZ could trade blows with any of them, for pretty much any other circumstances, you can get better (with less effort) out of the best of the competition.

Exactly, point and shoot is the smartphone camera's raison d'être. Manual mode is meant to be an optional supplement, not a necessary replacement for auto mode picture taking. If rumours are to be believed we may be seeing a radical change in Sony's approach to the camera hardware in 2018. I get and appreciate why you want to stay with the high MP approach, but I for one would be interested to see what Sony can do coming for a different perspective. Like I have said repeatedly, the camera setup is my last gripe with the Xperia line, if so then can replicate what Good have achieved with the Pixel camera, then I would be more than willing to give another Xperia a go.

Agreed. The new Manual Mode on my newer ones can handle low-light better than previous ones, but it still cannot handle noise that good. I mean like seriously, u can't have everyone use the Manual Mode, some just want to point and shoot, if Sony have the kind of machine learning image solution found in Google's current smartphones, I would be impressed, since I want Sony to keep the megapixel count as high as possible. I know currently other brands are reducing the megapixel count to 12MP for better low-light photos, but they are missing out on detail. My wish is that one day some brand (I expect Sony to do it first though) have some super intelligent image learning processing paired with high megapixel count that only produces noise like current 12MP smartphone cameras produce. That will require much more effort in making the software more than the ones with lesser megapixels. But if Sony wants to do that, they have to put in more effort in the software to make it work

I have XZ1 and my girlfriend has S8. None of them is better, are just different phones with different approaches! For me XZ1 built quality is a jewelry as its the best I have ever touched, I like better the blacks on my XZ1 than S8 but S8 bezless screen is awesome! XZ1 on the other hand its faster, and I mean the fealing that you get is a super fast phone! The sound is ...no comment, best stereo on smartphone! Isnt that strange that they manufactured the camera sensor of other brand and yet other people says that other brand could take better photos, when I visit their site, they said that they use their best sensor on xz1. Probably the only downfall of their sensor is the aperture which is f/2 unlike others who use bigger aperture. I want to have this product. For me Sony Xz1 is still the best there is in the market

That's your opinion and you are perfectly entitled to it. My own opinion is more that the main (perhaps even now the only) 'con' in the Xperia line has been and remains the camera implementation. I have used a multitude of devices from different OEMs, and both the Xperia camera ui and the results offered are inferior to the best I have used, by my reckoning. That opinion is also shared by many professional tech reviewers who rarely (if ever) list Xperia devices as the recommendation for smartphone camera solutions. Until Sony go back to the drawing board regarding their smartphone camera philosophy, I'll remain unimpressed.

Thank you. I actually am very fond of Sony as a brand, I grew up in a world where there were the undisputed No.1 tech company. I'm just not sold on some aspects of the Xperia line. I've given Sony plenty of praise where I believe it's due, i.e. 1. The screen: High end Xperia's have the best LCD based screens I have seen on smartphones, so good that I don't feel they need to look into oled based tech anytime soon. 2. Software support: Sony are currently the best in the android space out side of Google themselves, simple as. 3. Battery tech: Sony make more effort here than the competition. Just to name a few. The only real area I critique now really is the camera, sorry but in my own user experience there are not getting the job done here, and haven't kept pace with the best of the competition for some time. They are no.1 when it come to mobile imaging hardware, but not in the implementation of that hardware. If that is enough to make me a hater by the standards of some on here....so be it. But such a demonstrably low bar of reasoning will also apply to those making that accusation, that they cannot see that baffles me. Like I said though, I don't believe it's the supposed 'hating' itself that is a problem for such people (they are too busy applying as much themselves) it's just the direction of it.

Such users will then challenge any such critique of Sony and dismiss it as hatred, yet are oblivious to their own bias. In short, it's not the actual or precieved hatred that they take exception with, just the direction in which it is pointed. Thats why it's nice to see a more balanced perspective like yours

Sure does. Sony has been improved and surpass the competitors in many fields. Yes improved but not the best. I see a lot of negative comments on most Sony opinions. Why? You gonna say that's because of Samsung fanboy, they're truly hater of Sony. No! Take positive. Some people were right. I used iPhone 8 Plus as my daily driver and S7 and XZs as my backup and all the three have all problems. If I could state all cons on my iPhone, sure it will take a day and several paragraphs to finish. My S7 is good but it has some minor lags. My XZs is also good but the camera is not as good as my iP8+ and S7. If your phones make a problems, it would annoy you and worstly, you hate that phone. And then the hating will make people writing an opinion here, thus it would write weird opinions here, sounds like haters. But it never runs from truly haters which saying bad with no evidence. Even Samsung sections never runs out the people who says 'laggy TouchWiz UI'. Yes, Samsung has laggy UI and pretty lame with updates, Sony has weird camera, Apple doesn't have audio jack, microSD card slot and bad battery life.

No XZ doesn't heating up or overheating, it get warm only when playing games or performance test. But 4K video recording still everyone can overheat not only XZ. Some weird solutions is fixed only 10 minutes record limitations, just like Samsung's engineers too clever lol.

The triple sensor based focus on the XZ was blazing fast (think all but as quick as the dual-pixel focus of the S7) but not as consistently accurate. That RGB-IR thing mind.....well I could never tell if that was actually doing anything, same as when i used the Lg G4 & G5 which both had one. As for the 5-axis stabilization, that was impressive enough (though now beaten by the Pixel 2's video stabilization) but it was just too limited in it's actual use as it only worked up to 1080p@30fps. And yes it affected performance in that it would cause the device temperature to rise quickly, which as you say was still an issue, at least as far as the nougat software was concerned (I'd sold my XZ long before Oreo was released on it, so not sure if that improved things). Now the combination of Oreo and the improved hardware on the likes of the XZ1 might well have changed all that, I can see from Sony's own product page that 5-axis is still limited to 1080p@30fps however, but hopefully the auto-focus algorithms have been improved and the stabilization is not quite the same strain on the hardware. Ultimately, I'm still not impressed by Sony's approach to mobile photography, it's always just too difficult to get that shot I am happy with. In comparison the Pixel 2 camera experience is a delight, point - shoot = excellent result, couldn't be simpler. I'd still rather shoot video with the Pixel 2 as well, despite the mono audio recording, mainly because I can be assured that I'm not going to to get that blasted 'device temperature is rising' warning.

What a gimmick triple sensing technology yet it cannot focus at all! not hating but i used xperia z5 before changing to xz and it good phone but after nougat update it came very hot and then change to xz, the overheat issues is still there! it goes riot when extremely hot and oreo update does not change at all just better battery life. Then i change to s8 and it best phone i've ever used. Yes it has weird fingerprint place but often used and you can be normal with it, the weird things only feel when early used.

Agreed, but it is actually the ISP that is mostly responsible for processing of digital images. The name ISP kind of gives that away when you about it, you know the Image Signal Processor. For the most part though a modern SoC will likley support Hetrogeneous Computing, this allows for (amoung other things) other components of said SoC like the DSP or GPU etc to help out to varying degrees when processing digital photo images. When it comes to processing these images, I highly doubt that it matters much at all if the GPU component of the SoC is of any particular type, be it Mali or Adreno etc. In fact most Sony fans were pretty united in their disapproval of the Mali line of GPU, mainly I think as it was their hated rival Samsungs chief GPU of choice. Then Sony went and threw a Mediatek SoC that featured a Mali into one of their Xperia devices and what do you know, Sony fan based criticism of the Mali almost disappeared overnight....weird huh

GPU has no effect in image processing. Image processing is handled by the DSP which is located in the SoC itself. So yeah, it doesn't matter if your GPU has Mali or Adreno GPU when it comes to photography.

Nope, it is just the GPU, Mali GPU's appears to be easier to be optimized for photography or Sony's optimization of Mali GPU's for photography is better than Adreno, check the Sony Xperia xa Ultra 2016 in GSMArena camera tools. Xa1 series and my Xperia x has the same camera hardware and software but deferent GPU's.

I think its also from hardware problem like OIS and bigger aperture. I have an Xperia XZs and its very struggling on high dynamic range conditions, while in low-light sometimes good but sometimes bad, it lacks on consistency.

It is the software side. The reason why people don't like Sony smartphone cameras is how it handles noise. Because they have a list of smartphones with a lot of megapixels, and from what I know the reason why it have more noise compared to others is because the more megapixels the smartphone have, the more noise it is going to produce. Since there are more pixels, the pixels come together and create more noise, compared to others using 12MP. People are disappointed because Sony is doing really great in their camera department, with mirrorless cameras, lossless zoom and many more. Sony do have to do a lot of work to improve the camera software by clearing away the noise, if they want to compete with others with a high MP count

Yep I do have all those smartphones, but I chose to use XPERIA XZ. I have 2 of them, one for collection another as my daily driver, but the reason I chose the XPERIA XZ is because that time this is the best Sony got. They past on the Z lineup to this which is in between the Z and X series, a new X design with the familiar Z series blocky shape. That time I was fascinated by it and hence I bought it. And even though I bought the new ones which I also want to be my daily driver, u just can't let this current one am I right? And u might be wondering if I can't let the rest go when I got a new smartphone and the answer is no, because I used the XPERIA SP for 4 years, with problems like overheating because of the type of chipset it is using, and I have been looking a Sony smartphone that have a perfect taste of both series, just like the XPERIA XZ. That amount of care given to this smartphone for these few months, about a year already, u of course wouldn't want to let go of it :)

Nope, they haven't fixed the Manual Mode for older smartphones yet, not an issue for me, since I buy their high-end flagships every year since 2013, so I am getting a much newer camera software every year. But the problem lies when other users use it. Some don't buy their smartphone every single year like me would like to have the newer camera software on their older ones too. Because until now I still think that my whole Z series (I have the XPERIA Z1, XPERIA Z2, XPERIA Z3, XPERIA Z3+, XPERIA Z5 and XPERIA Z5 PREMIUM from the Z series, still running perfectly till now) are still capable of shooting some decent photos, and can definitely take much better photos if the current Manual Mode found in my XPERIA XZ1 is implemented into them. For example the XPERIA XA1, with that same 23MP camera, but with a newer camera software, takes much better photos thanks to the better post processing algorithms compared to my XPERIA X, XPERIA X PERFORMANCE & my XPERIA XZ. My suggestion is to bring the new camera software to the older high-end flagships they made in the past, maybe some of the problems might be solved for the older ones. I haven't received ANDROID OREO yet for my older X smartphones, and I didn't hear them saying about anything new to the camera software, so I am still not sure if they are going to bring the new software especially to my XPERIA XZ, because that is my daily driver and most of the time I would be outside and I would be using that to take photos instead of using my newer XPERIA XZs XPERIA XZ PREMIUM and XPERIA XZ1, besides I have been counting on Manual Mode at night instead of Superior Auto

Ah, so they have fixed that have they? It was one of the annoying things I noticed on the XZ. 'Manual' mode was actually ISO/Shutter priority mode, they could not be independently set. Like I said previous 'Manual' controls on Xperia devices were quite poor, in addition to the above issue, colour temperature could only be set according to 5 presets, strangely though a granular control could be activated in auto mode, for......well reasons known only to Sony. So yes, Sony continues to make improvements (they finally have added a exposure compensation control, which is nice of them), but the app still isn't laid out as intuitively as some of the competition and I don't see many (if any) tech reviews/journals pushing current or past Xperia devices as their recommended camera solutions.

But still it is a shame that Sony didn't bring the newer camera software to the older ones, because I am pretty sure my XPERIA Z5 can do all those tuning too with its 23MP camera. King Xperia????......and we're not in anyway way expecting any bias on your part are we. Anyhow as I pointed out previously, but seems i now have to reiterate, I was mentioning how the conversation has changed from Xperia cameras simply being the best outright, to now being the best if you fiddle around with the manual settings and such. End results are too nuanced to be decided here, not many reviewers and tech enthusiasts will agree that Xperias are in the top bracket of camera performance, but at least there appears a consensus that improvements continue to be made. But if people are going to suggest that manual controls are a must then (as I said previously) there are better options. Sony's camera ui is far from the most intuitive on the market. Can't speak to how things have changed in recent software updates, but the manual mode on the XZ when I was using it was an absolute joke.

One thing I noticed after Oreo update... in automode at lowlight my camera now recognizes the stability provided, so even automode now shoots at 1s shutter and 200 ISO it you hold it steady... For ocassional handheld use it shoots at 1/16 s and about 1000/1250 ISO, or 1/8 at some 600/800 ISO.... At dusk it now acts as in daylight, shooting at some 1/100 s shutter, and really catches the scenario as it is, not overblowing brights.... Indeed, lowlight shots come out superb even in automode with this new autosettings... No need for me to go manual on most lowlight ocassions. Now it just reacts much better in auto, reognizing the shake and adapting shutter much faster. Very satisfied with new Oreo camera improvements. :-)

You can't come here and talk about your xz. I had xz before the main board died after just two weeks. The xz camera is not as good and the build is cheap compared to the xz1. My friend have the xz and some times I compare it with mine and there is no way in hell you can say its a minor update. The xz1 is a refined xz with perfect performance. So please go to the xz page and complain about that mistake of a phone. Sony made a mistake releasing so many phones in a short window. That's why many people are sceptic about getting the latest. I would recommend xz1 to anyone. Would not recommend xz. Why?. Xz1 pros over xz. HDR screen! It's much nicer, colors are popping! Much better speaker sound, I've compared with my friends xz. Just overall snappier! Camera is better not by a lot but still better. bettey holds longer. I get 2days easy but im not a heavy user. The overall build. It's metal! Feels like it would brake the floor if you drop it and the screen can take some beating without getting scratches. Xz is just some high quality plastic that feels cheap and the screen get scratches more easily. This is my opinion tho, but I've owned almost every 2017 flagship and I like this the best :). This is fact from a daily user of Xz1 ;) just saying.

Dont worry about that. According to my 4.5 yr old Z1c, any app or game can be installed and works flawlessly still, except some newly released high end graphic games (and not all), as now old SD 800 doesnt support newest OpenGL builds for 3d graphics... But, some of those newest games work too on good ol' Z1c, even if plystore says "not compatible", if you install via some "non playstore .apk " ;-)

Support goes to about 2.5 years Id suggest a 2016 flag instead of a 2018 midranger, much more software updates and eventual software fixes on those... For ex, I got now about 1.5 year old model X Performance, from Marsh to Nougat, to Oreo a week ago, and am certain I ll get some more firmware updates over at least half a year more... For about the same price you can get that, or some newly released midranger, that will eventually get an update to a new post Oreo android build. X Perf probably wont....but an old flag still has better SoC, build, feats and software optimisation overall, for about the same price (300 bucos now). If you decide new midranger, be sure its some higher level midranger, not lower mid... For ex higher mid Xperia X gets more frequent updates, while lower mid XA doesnt so much...

Actually there is. I have used numerous devices from a range of brands, and never once have I considered myself a fan of the brand itself. If I happen to like a device from LG, that isn't going go turn me into an LG fan. It is possible to stay impartial to brands, and just enjoy (or not) specific products each produces. Unfortunately to many fall to easily under the trance of 'brand loyalty' and become the nuisance that is Fanboys.

If stabilisation on 1080 60 fps works, then it is hell of a bad one. and no, with the settings you mentioned for night photography, you would still lag behind a Samsung phone in auto. my friend has a Huawei p9 and its photos are unbelievable! shame that a device from a company half as powerful as Sony which produces cameras like the A7s blows away my xz. this phone is really lackluster.

I am a mobile phone fan, not a Sony fanboy like you, and definitely not a Samsung, because I never bought any of their products in my life. No, there are many points in the videos which prove me right. Just watch them, I doubt you will understand anything from them anyway, though. I can make very logic argument over the XZ because I OWN it. It is what they call a mediocre flagship. It is bad by all means in comparison to competition. The Premium had positive reviews but technically it is still behind Samsung s8/s8+ except in performance and the front camera, which is excellent on the XZ series. Apart from that, the XZ is seriously sub-par compared to s7, htc 10 and iphone 7.

Yeah, look Sony are making improvements to be sure, the camera ui (and the camera experience as a whole) is miles better than what used to be. I give Sony slot of credit for that, but it's the fanboy 'Sony is and has always been the best at everything' line I take exception with. Sony are market leaders when it comes to mobile imaging hardware, no question. They are not leading the in the implementation of that hardware though. Competing and getting better yes, but leading, no. That this conversation has moved to the 'you can get better results if you tweak the manual controls....' line of reasoning is proof enough that out of the box the Sony Xperia camera experience still is somewhat lacking. You can get better results out of the Essential or Razor phones by side loading the Google camera, anyone here think that absolves those respective companies of putting out lackluster camera experiences in the firsts place though?

Spot on, whilst consumers will always welcome the choice of manual camera controls, the presence of such will be a make or break for only a niche few. Hauser is just championing manual controls (something Sony are not really leading the way in as far as the Xperia camera ui is concerned) as he's realised that it's pointless to try to argue the benefits of the Superior auto results vs the best of the competition. Sony do offer manual controls....to a degree, at that's great, but this is a recent development (what they were passing off as 'manual' up until recently was really pretty poor). Also their camera ui is still clunky and not as intuitive as it could be. If a consumer were finding that they absolutely needing manual controls in their smartphone cameras, well then there are better options out there...

Except, when I owned a Sony Z5 as its photography in low light was terrible. I refused to waste my time with manual mode when all other major brands performed well in low light photography. I would say that most users would prefer manual and auto camera modes option. At least its there. But, the truth is, most people don't need to use manual mode. Because most flagships take great automode photos in low light. Sony doesn't, so manual mode and a Tripod is needed. Sony takes bad low light photos and needs manual mode and a Tripod. This is due to Sonys bad software camera optimation. Your maths makes absoletly no sense!. 100% - 17% = 0.01% ?? ...seriously, ask for help with your Maths. Again, I will state 99.9999% of people only want to use point and shoot auto focus and get great photos. Mobile phones are all about simplicity. Correct. Iphone and pixel phones don't have manual camera mode. Because they don't need it. Sony has bad low photography in automode, so manual mode is needed, and also a Tripod is needed, as gsmarena has said numerous times. Point and shoot is what 99.999% of consumers want.

First, a camera with manual can not be less convenient than one without it, cause camera with manual has both, auto and manual, thus is more featured and more capable than any cam without it... Second, yes, XZ1 and Premium with Oreo can indeed adapt ISO and SS at the same time without exclusions... My X Perform with Oreo didnt get that ability but just ISO control with exclusion of SS(would like the latter). Third, iphones and Pixel phones do not have manual. Fourth, most yt testers fhd res videos give you exact look out as how photos and videos would look at your phone screen ,social media, big screen TV or monitor, or in print...you know, stuff you shoot photos for in the first place, not how it would look under some photoshop zoom zoom in... nobody looks up photos and videos under magnifying lens in real life... Fifth, 19 mpx is there to make photos look more sharp and detailed, especially when printed out, especially in some bigger A3 or more format...print out a 19 mpx and a 12 mpx photo and see difference in quality yourself.

Ermmm, couple of corrections... Steadyshot is available at 1080p at 60fps...at least on my Performance. And IAM available on 30fps, and normal stabilisation is available at 4k. You sure its not on your XZ? Motion eye I believe does not have lower 8mpx but 12 mpx option.... You dont have to use manual preset 1s shutter for good lowlight quality, 1/16 is quite enough with some -0.3 to -0.5 exposure levels, for great shots even without tripod... With Oreo XZ1 has even ISO level managment, so I belive even better results can be made by keeping ISO under control. And Its quite easy to use, just preset manuals for lowlight, just a flick to manual in app gets you to "lowlight" mode. About HDR....at least it has control over it, you can turn it on and shadows will be uncovered, and not too much....I would hate a camera that actually cant catch a good light to shadow contrast shot, these make out to be really great dramatic shots people love to see. Sth some automatic hdr phone cameras without manual mode can not do, as they add to much hdr by default.... for ex new Iphones cam is ....well, photos turn out really bad exactly due to too much HDR, like that worst overprocessed Instgr filter... Actual Photographers hate that overprocessed stuff... Dont know about Pixel in that regard, maybe it is better, as I ve seen it has better auto dynamic range yes but not so out of proportion as ihph8... but it has no manual mode either, which is...uhhhh.

Smartphone cameras are mainly used for point and shoot purpose. Almost no one use manual mode. Even if someone want to use manual mode, Xperia is not a good option because of very limited manual controls and RAW image is not supported. keep in mind that the xperia cameras, xz or xzp, xz1, xz1c are mediocre in four points: 1. low light: the images are blurry, smudgy and grainy due to the absence of optical image stabilization and the aperture (2.0 vs 1.8 or 1.7 on competition). Over-processing and over-sharpening kill your image at night. * tip 1: use the 8 megapixel setting to yield better results, where you use the full size of the sensor on a smaller count. You don't need 19 or 23 really! * tip 2: use long exposure (1 second) where possible. Using this, the camera is better than other cameras really, unfortunately it is not practical, though. 2. Dynamic range: the dark and shaded areas in daylight shots are too dark when compared to the competition. The sensor measures the exposure well but if there is shade, unfortunately it will look dark to even black. 3. Lack of stabilisation in 4K: since no OIS is available, the steadyshot only work at 1080p at 30fps (not even on 60 fps). Your 4k videos will come out shaky. 4. The blurry and smudgy corners: the corners of photos from my xz are distorted to a large extent. Sent it to maintenance but they did not acknowledge the problem. however, the 8.0 update added an option (in the xzp) to camera settings in which you can fix this issue, thus it is a problem they refused to acknowledge for me. Looking at this, while we could argue over automode photo (more grain vs more noise reduction artefacts) and not over manual which does much better photo on XZ, there is just no doubt about which is better at video. IMO overall, as a photo/video cam, XZ Prem/XZ1 does better at lowlight than this competitor

It is so far from bad, it is one of the best in lowlight, but the steady hands is not an option because it doesn't have optical image stabilization, the huge camera sensor cannot afford this hardware feature until now so you need steady hands when shooting photos, however, if you have time to play a little bit with manual mode then you can get near perfect shots.

True, especially for those who charge at night and plug out of the cable in the morning. This kind of charging method is a much more safer method than others if people charge overnight, unlike the old method where u charge till it is full and left it charging like that for the next few hours till morning. I kind of like how it works, but sometimes I don't like it, but I don't switch off the feature, because it have an option to deactivate it sometimes when it appears in the notifications, so I wouldn't need to switch on and off in the settings

I've had my XZ1 for 2 months now and I must say: I love it! Yes, the bezels could be a little smaller, just a little (not bezelless, I don't like bezelless), but I love it. QHD screen would have been a bonus, but that would have chased the price up even more and right now the phone is priced very well (where I live).

Well I owned the z3+ and it had a lot of issues. One major was getting really warm. So warm it was uncomfortable to game. Not much has changed with the design but I rather have a metal body the carbon or glass/plastic. This will hold for long, and screen protector is not needed. Only if you know you will drop it often or put it together with sharp objects. Had mine since relese and not a single scratch on screen or the phone. I do not use any protection, it's completely naked ;). Performance wise, it's a huge improvement. Depends on how you use your phone. You see if you only text, call and use social media you would not even see a different using an 4 years old phone. Maybe if you scroll through Facebook tho. This is the first Android phone that I've used that has been flawless performance in everything, Im very picky with phones. But this done the job really well. What I love about this phone is the speakers and the hdr screen. It's really nice watching video on this device even without a headset. And to be honest the design is perfect if you play games or watch video. You have some place to actually rest your fingers, on like Samsung s8 plus with i owned for about a month it's a freaking nightmare watching movies and play games. It's too much screen that you don't even know where to hold. It gets slippery and uncomfortable very fast. So this is a huge success after the XZ that has a cheaper plastic design and mine died after 3 weeks because of a main board failure. I really like this phone and saying it's not much of an improvement after the z3+ is just laying to yourself. With that said phones don't get much better nowadays, and that's good because at least you can now have the same phone for a much longer time. With the monthly updates and the solid build this phone will last!

Got the phone last week from local store. Can't say that I am impressed by the design or the features - I like Sony smartphones and the design of it, but nothing new has been done here. After getting the phone, you will definitely want to add a screen protector as the screen is not that much a scratch-resistant as you would like it to be, so better be safe than sorry. As for overall performance from the phone - nothing new you would not expect from Sony. Applications are working fine and opening fast, the interface is still user-friendly and allows a lot of customization. A special feature that I really liked, would be the possibility to set the screen and text size in settings, that makes usage of the current device much more pleasurable. As for the performance of the camera, Sony still is on top of their game, but also here you wont see much of an improvement even if comparing with Xperia Z3+ for instance.

Everyone say wifi is buggy, haven't yet experienced any problem. I'm always on wifi, both home and at work. Got like 12 different wifi locations it switches between. Never had any issues. Make sure you have the latest update.

There is no way you can switch on/off the Qnovo adaptive charging in Xperia smartphone, you can for the battery care feature which prevents the battery from getting overcharged overnight a deferent thing from Qnovo.

Most bullshit response, gsmarena is just a bunch of people teamed up to do bussiness in reviewing phone. I have never heard of it before I for sure don't trust them completely. You have to use it to know if it is good or not. Basically I used samsung, apple and sony before and sony, although lack some depth compared to apple, outmatch samsung in many aspects. The reason it is underated is because of people made comments out of the spec or because the smartphone is in a hand of not so smart people. The XZ1 is optimized well with both the software and hardware running according to each other. Reallity testing on youtube is the best demonstration and people please stop relying on these sites they are just here to make profit not here to give true opinions to be honest

Dxo is not what it used to be. Their testing is quite circumstantial now, for ex giving points for bokeh in portrait mode to some phones, but ignoring bokeh of other like XZ Prem just because it doesnt have bokeh in portrait but in macro mode. Also points counting doesnt have mathematic equative background now, they add points as they like, for ex out of 90 and 87 they get an overall 100 score ?! So what to make out of their tests actually? Cant trust dxo anymore.

Been using for a month now. Battery is great, display is rich with colors and its fast and reliable. You also get monthly security patches. Can't complain. Good camera and I'm impressed with the front camera as well. With the metal build and gorilla glass 5 display. This will age well. Have nothing bad to say. It's a solid phone with no problems so far. Recommend because of build and the great dual stereo speakers for video. It also have superb sound quality, I've paired my bose qc 35 to this phone. First phone I'm years I've used that I have no complain about. I really tried to find something bad! But there is nothing... If it goes down in price it's going to be a really good deal, but I would say buy it anyway, it's a quality phone much better then the xz. Because of the build quality :)

I know, but both of thek are well known and probable review devices based on popularity, xperia was under rated phone. If you used one you'll know its under rated. Antutu rated processor performance while DXO mark rate photo quality, but based from what I have read, DXO is kind of biased base from the popularity of the device. Admit it that when were talking about android, Samsung was and still the most popular. In some review they said that LG V30 is the best cameraphone.

Sony use EIS on video recording but not on taking photos or still image. Does anyone their used this phone. Make an honest opinion on its camera performance and its photo quality. Forget youtube camera tests. Thry are just amatures and some are paid by smartphone manufacturers. They give biased reviews most of the time. EIS has the most advantage, good thing with OIS that it helps with steadiness when taking photos, good for depressed people XD, however EIS has no role in this regard, but it is way much important for video image stabilization.

They have no difficulty, they actually never planned, all the competitors such as Apple, Samsung.. Are using both OIS and EIS together and yet they didn't achieve what Sony did with only EIS since the z5, Sony is actually looking more farther than OIS and dual camera lens, since Sony is one of the biggest camera manufacturers, FYI Sony uses OIS only in the selfy camera of a midrange smartphone the Ultra series.

I assume that u didn't have them that is why u said "all" Sony smartphones. Yes indeed they have overheating issues, the Z series smartphones have them (Overheating message even when taking photos), and the early X series, but, for my XPERIA XZs, XPERIA XZ PREMIUM & XPERIA XZ1, all didn't overheat, what I noticed is the back is slightly warm which feels cooler and not as hot as previous ones, and I definitely can record way longer than their predecessors I have used for recording previously. Call me a fanboy if u want, because I am, but I am not that blind as a fanboy, because I have been observing the pro and cons of their smartphones for the Z and X series for years, the improvements they made, and I won't fight if someone says that some aspects of their smartphones are not as good as "this" company that they mentioned, unless they said something that is literally worse than Sony

Sorry i forgot to mention this video, please enjoy it: Btw, the problem of your z5 is that you were accidentally recording videos at 1080p 60fps resolution however this resolution is an overkill for any smartphones it is even worst than 4k resolution used in the video up there, use 1080p 30fps instead, for the new xz1 which actually shares the same hardware of the xz premium in the video up there so both share the same result.

All types of phone could be damage by drop test. Even of there is no damage at the outerpart of the phone the component inside could be affected whether it has bezzels or not. Maybe what they try to say is aldeanary bumps of phone. Your a sony fan? Seems not, more like samsung fan.
