Been using this phone about a month, this is my review Build Quality is superb, Sony XZ2 has best hand feel than huawei p20, xiaomi mi 8, xiaomi mi 9 se..as far as i can compare. Battery life is one of the best i got,compared even to a s9 plus this manufacturer knows really how to manage battery life, almost get to end of the day with 30% with medium to heavy use. Software and media is very good, expected from a high end device. Screen is good, audio is good, camera is good (maybe dual camera setup will have been better), haptic vibration isn't usefull.

The microphone stopped working after an OFFICIAL software update, warranty replaced some parts but the phone is no longer IP certified, and less than 1 year has passed from purchase. Sony got the money, retailer got the money, and I'm left selling it second hand for hopefully half the price. While its features are decent, since you cannot rely on it to make voice calls, this is not phone. I've been using Sony phones for some years now, never again. I've also contacted Sony support which sent me generic template answers and did not help at all. Do not buy this phone.

Currently my XZ2 is OK so far, fast, battery about 1 day, 2 days maximum depending on how you use it, no gaming, just video calls mostly, some Facebook, emails and calls. Compared with a P30 Pro, which I also owned, the battery is a little weak. On the Huawei you can get 2 days, one day with heavy use and still get some juice left. When I got the phone it was 2 times less than the P30 Pro, so you can't really compare it, but I got the phone since it was well priced. P30 Pro is a killer phone, but too damn expensive, I won't pay more that 700 Euros for a phone, it's just not worth it.

I'm a sony fan, but please don't even consider the xz2 if you can get the oneplus 7. The op7 should be better in ( almost? ) every aspect, including the camera. And sony phones also have a lot of harware issues like the touch screen failing withing a few months, and a useless warranty for important issues like this.

Question: Has some user any thoughts on XZ2 when it comes to sturdiness? I got two toddlers at home and they like to toss these phonez around quite a bit, as children do. I cant have a case, its really not for me. I've considered xz2c, but textning will probably be a concern with my big clumsy hands. According to gsmarena the xz3 is "sturdy in its design". What do you guys think of the xz2? I'm a little concerned due to glass back... Thanks!

I noticed DXO has point out few issues with the phone. There is a way to improve the quality with the following setting. For daytime photo, change to manual mode and 12mp, turn off HDR, change ISO to 50, keep adjusting the the shutter speed till you get the sharpest image. This setting will reduce the noise significantly. This phone has a really wide dynamic range, you will need to keep changing the focus point until you get a good balance of the exposure. For distortion, you can reduce it by zoom in 1.4 times. As this phone has a very wide FOV than other phones, you can sacrifice FOV a bit and this will reduce the distortion issue and will also resolve the softness in the corners. Also I have noticed the image is sharper after I zoom in, sony must have apply some kind algorithm to sharpening the image. For noisy edges and any color issue, this can be easily fixed via photo shop. I have to say this phone and XZ2 has the most natural colour when compare to other phones and it is the sharpest phone on the market right now the colour reproduction is almost the same as my Alpha 6000.

The small/heavy thing took me a while to get used to, but it's grown on me, I'm all in now. Really good phone, feels like it will last but time will tell. Shame Sony buried it almost straight away, but it is the best value 2018 flagship as a result because it's really cheap second hand. Anybody else finding they are getting a lot of screen off battery drain? Also I wish that stupid haptic vibration gimmick wasn't there because I bet it adds to the weight.

I've had all the Xperia flagships since the Z1, and this one is hands down the biggest leap improvement between them all. Absolutely everything is better but with very annoying addition which is the dumbest feature ever created by Sony, the "Dynamic Vibration System", which vibrates the phone with the music you listen to. It's an excellent idea executed very poorly. It's hardly in sync with the sound and it's not in the same frequency of the sound, so it just feels like a bumblebee is stuck inside. The camera's specs are way higher than the results you actually get, but still better than all previous Xperias.

Probably that is because the xz2 camera is f2.0, the aperture of the camera is good in good light condition, but the light that passed through the lens at low light may not be as good as those that having higher aperture, anyway can the flash help?

Camera is very capable, especially in good light conditions. Realistic colours, high details, recognize different scenes, comfortable interface. Night shots are not that good, compared to samsung galaxy s9, but they're ok. You have 4k hdr video, super slow motion, very nice bokeh effect. I think its great camera, better than xz1 and xz premium.

Dark mode is not yet available idk why or maybe i dont know which developer settings to tweak Night mode is available since android 8 or maybe android 7 Its too loud now compared to those z5 models and almost as loud as an iphone x imo Screen flash is old now on xperia App drawer swipe is also quite old (since android 8)

Which has a lossless (or near lossless) digital zoom photo quality in the rear camera? 5. Which has an option for wide-angle selfie? 6. Which has a more natural-looking (warmer tone) selfie camera? We already agreed that your country pricing for Sonys phones are too high, but as I mentioned before, It's not like that in the rest of the world. As far as I know, your country is pretty much the only country where XZ2 cost more than S9 (even S9+) and V40. In most stories I've heard and read it's the other way around. At my place, XZ3 cost as S9, and XZ2 is much cheaper (cca 200USD cheaper). What is your point with mentioning FHD and all those disvantages? Heck.. I know some people who wouldn't buy Sony flagship even if it cost 300 USD because they don't like it :). I know India is really a world on their own.. I mean, here I am, in country with 4 million people and Im trying to translate my valute to USD so everybody can understand me, and you are talking about pricing in only world you know - India with Indian Rupees :) Even the GSMarena has hard time with deciding what price they should put for global. Which is understandable when there is no product which cost the same all around the globe. I mentioned iPhone Xs Max, not because his elite status, but because of their very different pricing all around the world. That was just example for you to better understand, that is not only brands fault for high pricing for each country. So, at my place in Croatia EU, iPhone Xs Max with 64GB cost 9500kn (1450 USD). In US and Japan, that one cost 1100 USD. In Serbia (Croatian neighbours) is 170000 RSD (1640 USD). Pretty big difference for the same product. How much is that model in India? And you didn't answer me about POCO F1, how much is it in India? I have to agree with you on one thing. Noone with any salt in his brain, would buy XZ2 at that price. It's more that 1000 USD if I calculate right. Almost half of that price is in my country and GSMarena put ˝around 460 EUR (525 USD)˝ With such a high tax on brand from Japan it seems India has a good reason for it. It probably wants people to buy products assembled or made in India. I don't know why is V40 cheaper than XZ2, it does not makes any sense... but here I am, a simple guy from europe in a country with 4 million people talking about situation in India... lol, you can ask google why is so expensive, more than any country in the world.

You quoted iPhones people in India just buy them as status symbols. People still buy two or even three generations old iPhones just for the Apple logo here in India. Regarding taxes yes they are high in India but taxes are there on Samsung and LG too but still they reatail lower in India. Taxes are just a fixed percentage on the price at which the company decides to launch. Also prices drop on Samsung and LG phones in India but the XZ2 is as it is. Also remember it's the XZ2 not the premium variant which sensible person would buy a Sony phone with FHD display a single rear camera, 64 GB inbuilt storage at 73000 INR. The single rear camera maybe great but is it the best on smartphone ? Also the device lacks a headphone jack so it's not even suitable for audiophiles. Seriously that high premium price has no justification.

In June 2018 when I decided to buy a new phone from Sony, there was only XZ2 and XZ2 Compact to choose from. XZ2 Premium officially came out in July, but it becomes available just recently. But I wouldn't buy it even if it was available, because that phone is just too big for me.

Look at the prices of iPhone XS/MAX in the world.... Where is the cheapest and where is really expensive (almost 50% difference for some countries) So according to that, I just got to mention Indian taxes..and not just Indian. Every country has their own tax laws. Just look around your self.... Prices for same product in each country is way way different. LG and Samsung are maybe cheaper in your country, and probably better over all, but Sony phones have customers who are basicly Sony fans only. Noone is buying their products because they are technology leaders. I know it's not the best phone out there. But it was the best from Sony back then and I really liked my first experience with Xperia X. Only phone I liked at that time was S9, and I didn't buy it because it was more mainstream (way too popular, every other guy/girl in my company has it). It was also 120USD expensier than XZ2. So there is that. From time to time I hear people coming from Samsung S line because of change. Like I was wanting a change when I changed my LG G4 for Xperia X. But is it worth your paycheck? That's on you. There are tons of chinese brands who offer better value for money, and most probably I am going to do the same in next few years. But for now I am happy with phone I have. No problems with phone at all. I just want to say, there are choices everywhere around you. I am sure each brand knows which countries are their main targets, but also some countries have much different taxes for each product. That's not just the case with phones, it's on every product, like cars. Japanese cars and Korean cars... do you see a big difference in prices between them? Not the greatest example I know... But each country set their prices on each import product. Does it really seems logic to you that is only Sonys decision to bump up prices for their phones in a country like India where there is so much poverty and most of people don't have anything beside jio feature phone? It's taxes. That's why we don't have same prices. How much is POCO F1 in India? Here in Croatia, EU cost 3300kn or 509USD. It was advertise as a 300USD phone right? Well... not in every country.

My friend at work has Galaxy S9. Besides S9 having 3.5mm jack and different design which looks better in my opinion, because it looks like XZ3 but more compact, they are really comparable devices. In day light situations I would say my XZ2 has upper hand with photos because it's natural colors and contrast. Video looks really good especially in FHD. Unless you use 4k HDR, when it starts to stutter a bit (sd845!?), everything is on pair or sligthly better then on S9 camera (in my opinion). But in low light situations, I have to admit that S9 produces better pictures with more realistic colors and less noise. And lastly, I am not a guy who take selfies or do video calling at all, but selfie cam on S9 is indeed much better. In fact, in my opinion selfie cam is the biggest difference between them. That and night shots ofc. Preformance on both devices shouldn't be the issue. I took the XZ2 instead of S9, only because I like Sonys minimal UI and some features Im used to have on my previous phone Xperia X, which was my first Sony device. In other words, you can't go wrong if you choose XZ2 over S9, or S9 over XZ2. Choice mostly depends on your personal needs and taste.

It's not that simple. Problem is not only on Sony side which can't offer a good value for your specific market. It can't fight the chinese brands and that's a fact. Bigger problem is in yours country big import taxes and your laws with wages and tariffs. So, it's not only Sonys fault. Just recently Europe and Japan sign the trade pact. All EU products will be much cheaper in Japan, and vice versa. That kind of agreement your country needs if you want for Sony or any other global brand to be affordable. But I doubt it will happend. India is so huge and so different than the rest of world... It needs products taylored only for them. And that's pretty much what we see now. You have your brands who are your no.1, rest of the world has their own, because of uniqnes of each market.

Its because of the software processing that they have, I guess they should improve the bionz in odder to compete with huawei mate pro or other leading camera phone, another thing is the aperture, that is when it comes to lowlight but remember that they are one of the phone that have augmented reality effect on camera which os also very unussual for smartphone to have.

In Croatia EU, XZ2 is around 615 USD (4000KN), while S9 is around 800 USD (5200KN). But I must say...Sony has drop XZ2 prices a lot since it's introduction in April 2018. When I bought it in June, it cost exactly the same as S9 now ~ 800 USD, while S9 was 930 USD (6000KN). Sony flagship phones are dropping their value much faster than Samsung does with their S and Note line.

I think its because of the camera behind it, sony said that they put there best camera module on xz2 besides from that the device is optimise, I have sony xperia once, I didn't experience anylag on it until I accidently drop it without a case besides from that during that time sony xperia is one of the device that has AR effect, meaning its pretty advance for 2014 phone.

Can you just imagine it Sony is selling this smartphone at 72990 INR (1028 USD), whereas the Galaxy S9 plus is available at 52900 INR (745 USD) and recently LG has launched the V40 at just 49990 INR (704 USD) and definitely both are better devices than this Xperia. What are Sony providing at such ridiculous prices FHD display, single rear camera and NO HEADPHONE JACK, Samsung and LG provide QHD displays, dual and triple rear cams and a great Headphone Jack which can power some serious Audiophile grade headphones.

Battery life is good. I got about 1.5 days from 100 to 20 percent with average use of gaming and social media consumption. I think you got a faulty unit. Battery life is on par with my P20 pro despite having 3000 mAH battery.

hi, im using xz2 for past 2 weeks...so far i didnt find any major issues and runs smoothly .. but i hav ony 1 problem wen i open the camera app sometimes the circle icon to snap pictures disappeared..both rear camera n selfie camera. Any solutions for this...i oredy factory reset 2 times..but its stil same..mine now running android 9.

Man about Y cable is not coming in the box and That incluye manual, fast charge, earphones and the minijack adapter but a i really have to say i dont like the usb c to the earphones im afraid that input fail and my Phone is a versión H2966 is a Hong Kong versión or something like This, and the battery is actually pretty good, the Phone is not overheathing like the Z5 or worst like Z first generation was crazy HOT. I owned an S8 which has the same camera as the S9 and the xz2 premium definitely has the better camera of the bunch especially in low light and the front facing speakers are a delight. Too bad of the 64gb memory but that 4K screen definely makes up for it, it is a 16:9 aspect ratio so you won't get those nasty black side bars when watching YouTube videos.

The most recent one if u want the best Sony smartphone overall as of now (same answer will be given if someone asks me recommendations from any nother brand, because that just how it works, the best will come out on the second half of the year) But, if the cameras are not that impressive, go for the XPERIA XZ2 PREMIUM. U may have sacrificed better cameras for larger bezels but in my own experience it definitely took the best photos out of all my Z and X series high-end flagships. For music, I think that ain't a issue for all of them, you'll notice some minor differences in them because of newer and better DACs in the newer chipsets, but it ain't that much of a difference. Besides, u have DSEE HX, though SABRE DACs are still the best in the business, DSEE HX is a nice touch. Gaming is based on your requirements, if u want to be able to play games like PUBG Mobile or Fortnite, I'd pick the ones with the SNAPDRAGON 835/845, SNAPDRAGON 820 is just a little too hot especially when loading up Fortnite and not even in-game yet. In the end, I believe it's your choice, to be honest u should look at other brands' smartphones too

Don't know if yours is having some issue but, mine is running well. When I bought it a few months back, the very first thing I did was to buy a screen protector and a case for my XPERIA XZ2, that pretty much solves the problem of the slipperiness of the smartphone as from all the reviews that came before my purchase, one of these reviews is notably GSMARENA, which I'm the most active in. I wouldn't complain about their own X-Reality Engine to be honest, it's just a image and video enhancement engine which makes photos and videos look more natural in the eye. Maybe it isn't your taste, but I like it. My experience with it is just as similar as what I get from my older Z and X series, a clean software. Until now, I consider myself a lucky person to have no issues in any of these high-end XPERIA flagships including my 2nd most recent smartphone XPERIA XZ2. Low-light photos turn out way better than what I've expected, as compared to my previous Z and X series smartphones (Obviously it will improve after every iteration, but not as much as this). Sure, they're still not the best smartphone cameras, having low-light photos that have a considerable amount of noise with good detail and colors, but I'll take this instead of some smartphone camera that takes photos with a lot of noise reduction but with soft detail and washed out colors, it's just suits my taste in low-light

I've the XZ1 and I bought it cause of its camera but the pics in low light are disappointing with too much noise and lack of details due to no ois, when you zoom in you can see that. I've been using Xperia phones right from the Xperia Ray series and the camera really needs improvement other than that everything is good and the battery life is amazing.

Well im no tested a F1 but the xperiaxz2 is a really good Phone, the battery life is so good even with 3200mah a spend a whole charge with 7 and 9 hours of screen on time with a 25% of brithness, the Phone has ulta fast chargin Mode 10% to 100% in a 1hour, then the updates is not a pixel but with 2 or 3 months late u get Android pie, the audio is the better than my xperia Z5 but this speakers have something they with some heavy use starts to crack a bit IDK, and the Phone have some plus like the dynamic vibracion is very good the sensor follows the bass in videos, music, movies, is amazing Just take away of Electronic music especially Dubstep, and the cammeras are good the screen is good but if u hace some money wait a while for the Xz3 tha Phone have more battery, improve a screen search a comparision Maybe in december the Phone goles around 550 usd but i advance you search a versión with 6GB of RAM, i bought my xz2 6gb in 480usd is a gd deal Good luck

I bought the XZ2 on release in Europe and first impression was it was a good solid phone, I struggled with the curved back a bit as I thought it was just a shade too much. I held onto the device for 6 weeks before taking a massive hit on it, selling it for half of what I paid. I have been a huge Sony fan since the "Z" was realeased, now I won't touch another. XZ2 is an awful device, buggy software made for a terrible user experience, with random hangs and crashes. Bluetooth drops outs, very noisy images from the rear camera, I just found it to be a dreadful phone. I would say watching videos was a great experience although the X-reality engine is the most idiotic feature I have ever seen on a mobile device. I have owned no less that 8 Sony devices and the XZ2 will be my last, it really put me off Sony for good.

Trying to replace my old XZ with a new model. My main concerns with a phone camera are: 1. poor low light performance (front & rear cameras) 2. dreaded purple or orange tinge in low light or extreme sunny conditions 3. over and underexposure 4. unresolved details especially around the corners 5. lots of noise when zooming in (under any conditions) 6. No OIS or (the very least) EIS in both the front & rear camera. (I'm doing more 1080p videos @30 or 60fps than 4K) 7. Audio recording sounds as if the people talking have a blocked nose (mono). 8. Unnatural bland or over-contrasty colours (in Auto Mode) 9. Poorly optimised portrait shots (background blur looks artificial) 10. Jumpy or overactive autofocus. I've heard the XZ2 family is receiving the Pie update but along with it comes "missing" features: NO gestures - just nav buttons NO selfie portrait mode NO Google lens integration in camera (I could be wrong) Lack of themes compared to Samsung's Are these true? Pie generally sucks. The status bar, quick settings, recent apps and navigation buttons are bad on my pixel 3. Luckily Sony sticks with the 3 buttons and old recent apps layout. Battery seems to improve drastically. Camera is so so so much better now. Bluetooth seems to dismiss my received files notification when I turn Bluetooth off. Cant say if that's intended or bug. No issues with sony, just Google's 9.0 is just full of flaws.

@GSMArena The video section of a phone should mention if the device can record HDR videos or not. The Display can support HDR, the camera can take HDR photos and record HDR videos. Support for all three should be specified in all phones. Most of the time the camera can take HDR photos, the screen might be able to display HDR, but for the camera to record HDR videos is a totally different capability.

Well this is because the back is raised and the board should not make any direct contact with the back cover like the previous flat xperias . If you look at XZ2 teardown on youtube there is a thick plastic between the board and the back cover to house the nfc.

The camera info is incorrect. It states that it records 960fps at 720p. Those ratings are for the XZ1 line of phones. The XZ2's record 960fps at 1080p.

So what it matters is to have the latest model, no matter what? Come on man.. You still have the latest Snapdragon, still have your screen, shape, RAM. SD card, wireless charging and/or whatever reasons you bought the XZ2 for! What if Sony or whoever managed to improve on something or advance another technology (ie created a better camera technology) in the meantime? Should they wait to release it after one year just because it is too close to the current model's release? That is not called progress. That would be called marketing technique and it would be unfair to withhold the technology just to satisfy some current customers who always want to own the latest model, just because they care about model numbers ONLY.

I love the design of my XZ1 compared to the XZ2, really love the boxy design with front firing speakers. The camera is also great if not the best compared to the latest flagships but it ain't far behind either. Sony phones are way better than any android phones out there.

2 things they need to improve, one is the design and another is the camera. While the build quality is way better than their previous few high-end flagships, the design is something I still kind of dislike. It looks modern, but it kind of resembles HTC's design, which sometimes got accused. Their own OmniBalance + Loop Surface design may look dated, but as I have said many times elsewhere if they trimmed the bezels to what it is on the current XPERIA XZ2 and round the corners more, it can already give people a better impression of the smartphone. And lastly the camera, I like the camera's interface, but definitely not the camera app's startup speed. Sometimes u want to take a quick photo of something unexpected that's about to happen, and I almost missed the shot. There's definitely still some need for improvement here...

Yup, this is the best enginered sony phone so far. Manything get improved. Design, finally the make a more modern phone, metal frame, antenna line on it, no plastic corner. Far better from Z5 and cheap designed plastic and metal back like on x performance and xz. Though for me its better to keep their tradition with flat back and left top camera placement. Camera, now on par with other flagship. Though needs many improment in software and feature, super slow mo needs auto detection thats the most important thing..

In Taiwan we can purchase online at Sony online store and the Japanese manufacturer case can purchase through there. Xperia have Transfer photo feature it can save in memory card depends on person demands.

Though Sony lately lost to other brands in screen to bezel ratio it is not yet outdated. And this phone is good improvement than its earlier models in that department. I have not personally checked it. But too much curvy back side affects stability when kept on any surface. Another thing missing is Optical Image Stabilization. What is expected from brands like Sony, Samsung now is weight reduction without compromising build quality. LG has achieved it in its V30+. I am old sony fan but currently using Samsung Note 3 and may upgrade to Note9. Note 8 was very good but 128 gb rom model was not available in India so I skipped it and at its current price its a steal who can live with 64 gb rom for next couple of years. So fingers crossed for next upgrade.

At first, I was exactly like all you guys. "What the heck are Sony's designers doing? This design looks dated and doesn't look modern" Now...I went into an electronics store and had a hands-on look at it. And honestly...I quite like the phone. The thickness feels a lot thinner than it is on paper, the subtle curve on the back feels...rather welcoming to my hands. Feels about the same as an HTC 10 (My phone right now) The weight of the phone feels "Premium" in such senses. BUT. THE FINGERPRINT READER IS IN A AWKWARD POSITION. It needs some "getting used to" but just feel like I'm bending my finger more than I should...? LOOK AND FEEL THE PHONE IN-PERSON...It is actually and pretty solid phone. That's it from me :)

Just sent my waterlogged Sony Xperia Z5p, was previously repaired by Sony's Official Service Centre in Singapore. They refused warranty because the back cover glass broke, after repairs, I suspected the water resists was not done properly, just found out after a couple of months, they now obviously refuse warranty for waterlogged phone. Sent it in Friday, they didn't look at it even on Monday (I suspect because it was out of warranty). So much for Sony service quality, my friend is recommending me the Sony XZ2, but I won't purchase another Sony phone now because of their poor service standards.

Own Honor 8 Pro and Mate 10 pro. Honor 8 pro aluminum body definitely feels very sturdy and heft. Drop from my hands level a couple of time and not a single chip present, heck i dont even put screen protector since bought last year and can assure no scratch presents either. On the back panel everything is flush, be it camera placement and flash placement, 7mm thk overall and even can fit 4000mah battery with small bezels. Mate 10 pro was no slouch either, great quality feeling glass body, but i use case and screen protector on that one. My wife Mate 9 also feels very very luxury, drop a couple time as well with no signs of broken at all. You can check many reviews on youtube about all 3 phone built quality, for the price, its more than solid. Or feels it for yourself on your friends that own the phone or go to Huaweis retails.

Why do i compare between Honor 8 pro and X performance? Simple, pricing. At that time i was in dillema wether to continue using Sony or pick other brand. Yes the same launch date Xperia phone at that time was Xperia XZ, and as i said it cost $200 more than 8 pro and X performance (it even small upgrade from X Performance despite new design language). At that time X performance and Honor 8 pro at the same price, $450. And for the same price, u are blind if saying X Performance better than Honor 8 pro (look at the specs again). Buy Honor 8 pro, really really have great experience with it. After that buy my wife Mate 9, and that phone is a beast as well, both built quality and features are solid for the price. Why did i bring up Huawei brand in this section? Well at 1st i just want to see positive post about XZ2 phone in here, since finally Sony got their camera rights. But then saw your post regarding china brand not good, cheap because of something, and thats why i bring out the arguement here, because even i come from Sony flagship, i find out that Huawei phones are very good actually. Been using xz2 for 2 months now. I think it's a good phone. Camera is good for me but the software is kind of needs updating. It needs to be more user friendly. Comparing it to my s9, xz2 has more detailed shots than s9 but also has more noise. As for battery life, I think this is the best phone with amazing battery life so far. In fact, much better than my s9. I think due to the S845? My s9 runs exynos so might be different for snapdragon-based s9. Fingerprint sensor is not placed on the area like other phones but once muscle memory kicks it, it will feel natural. It is slippery so getting a case is recommended. The powerful vibration motor will move the phone on a flat surface without a case. Cant stay much about the software. It has bugs here and there but considering it will be updated to Android P, software might improve.

Dont know why you promote those huawei phone cameras here tho, as honor 8 pro doesnt have any better setup than mate 10 pro, which on the other hand is not better than XZ Premiums, let alone xz2. And lets compare honor 8 pro to xz1 or xz premium, not X Performance, as it is a Honor 8 release time model, ok? Also you seem to claim you used every single huawei and sony flagship so far? Why, XZ2 is IMO overall better daylight photo and all type video cam than p20 pro, but not as good in 3 things only dude, photo portrait, zoom and night mode on p20 pro. Also screen, performance, sound, battery setup, build and software support are better on XZ2. And price is about the same dude. So IMO huawei is not a better overall package, just preferetially better for those that use photo portrait, zoom and night mode much. For ex, I seriously would suggest to outdoor activity, raw performance and gaming lovers, video rec enthusiasts, and selfie lovers not to go for huawei flagship, but rather Sonys. Simple as that. As for camera, way better on 8 pro especially low lights compare to X Performance. Videos was just okay for me and better on the Xperia side (i take videos maybe once in a month while taking pictures daily). The whole package for the same price, goes to Honor 8 pro. I dont know whats wrong with your friends normal Honor 8 phones. Look, i came from each Sony flagship phone and i know what im talking about, just state my personal experience before. As for P20 pro, turn the g0dd@mn AI off, camera become superior. Best dynamic range, best low light photos, best zoom details picture. It even comparable to Sony mirrorless camera when the AI is off, check it on youtube. And the handheld night mod? No other phone have an answer yet. Lets have a healthy conversation.

Ya know, I use X Performance, my friend went from Sony and bought Honor 8 because of price, so I pretty much know about both. So seriously, you claim his phone is better than mine? I didnt find a single thing on his phone that is better, except the price, not even batterylife. My both cams are miles better, he cant take a single photo without motion blur on that cam, video lacks sharpnessand is unstabilised as heck, sound system uncomparable, screen quality uncomparable, I get over 6 hr SoT, he is on 5hr SoT now, and not to mention overall much better performance from my snapdragon SoC over his Kirin one. So I dont know how you can claim that. Honor 8 is an OK phone for its price, but better than X Performance?! Seriously? and even P20 Pro is nothing worth the superlatives, except lowlight photo performance nothing else is to brag about, not even the pricetag.

No need for that video comparison as i know it already. And as for my phone choice last year, Honor 8 pro is a clear winner within $450. At that time, X performance cost the same, but 3gb ram, 32gb internal memory, whereas 8 pro 6gb ram, 64gb internal memory. And the camera? Like night and day, 8 pro on the better side. XZ cost $200 more (still 32gb internal memory). Do u think people buy phones not looking at other aspects? Many better sides on 8 pro. Nahhh i've been a long Sony flagship user, switch to Honor 8 pro last year, no regrets. Cheap quality? I feels it even sturdy than Sony. Did u now when $450 Honor 8 pro come out last year, camera quality is better than $900 iphone 7 plus at that time? Compare it with all my previous Sony phones, makes me realize how bad Sony camera algorithm is.....now i rocks with Mate 10 Pro. Sony camera algorithm starting good since this XZ2 phones, but design not to be liking by most of the people, including me. As a huawei user now, i still missing Sony's UI (launcher, media apps), think its the best. Heck i even custom theme my EMUI to look a like Sony XZ2 UI. ??? Chinese phones are absolutely not as good. Cheaply assembled phones with top specs that just indeed justify their lower price range, but nothing else. Its like buying a Corsair quality 64gb USB memory stick, or cheap "Ziochang" USB 128gb stick from china for the same price. Always go for Corsair even tho its less Gb for same price, it ll last you 10 years atleast, and you need not worry bout it getting bust and losing your data. Only reason some people think those chinese OEM are better is their lower price, you get more numbers for the same price, but...you will definitely feel the reason behind their lower price. yeah, them both resemble Xperia Neo. Had one, it was great design back in those days, that seems to have inspired new Htc phone designs with curved back. Htc also added shiny metal effect of Xperia Premiums range... XZ2 added Xperia Neos curved back and its xamera and sensor placement, and XZ Premiums shiny metal effect... Kinna surprising that Sony went back to, and some OEMs like Htc got inspiration from Xperia Neo, and not Xperia Arc. I think Arc was even better design.

Of course. For example The Sound? Xperias had front facing stereo virtual surround sound since Z2 era, while others had mere single loudspeaker. But All it mattered was loudness, until this year. Nobody gave any accolades to Sony for virtual surround speakers... Now, after 5 years, some of em got stereo speakers too, some with Dolby Atmos. But now, to "much surprise", 5 year present Sonys S force front surround "just doesnt feel as good" as those other's Atmos Dolby. Get it? 😉 Sony was, and is always a step ahead. The phone is slightly thick and that alone made the phone even stronger, the camera on it takes great pictures and videos even on low light conditions, the sound is clear and clean, it is scracth free cos of the material used for the phone the list goes on. I am a Sony phone fans with my first phone is SE Chedar until Xperia Ray (I still using it until now). Literally I am too poor to buy this Xperia XZ2. So this is the first time I turned into other phone brand I really need a cheap phone since smartphone technology is always changed within less than a month and there are always another new phones with their new technology up ahead of their competitors. I've impulsively purchased this phone after watching review after review for over a month lol Indeed, the camera has been very superb in both daylight and lowlight. But if a scene isnt well lit and isnt dark enough, images tend to be crappy :| lol I guess coming from a Samsung S7 edge, the screen isnt breathtaking but is more natural in colors. Audio quality is great with its front speakers! I can play game, watch movies etc. and not block/cover the speakers. You really have to get used to where the FPS is located but its super responsive and rarely do I have to try it again. The phone feels so snappy and somewhat too "bare". Samsung has a lot of entertaining junk that I've all disabled so its very refreshing that I dont have to dig so much to save battery. The battery capacity is small indeed but Sony's power management and the new snapdragon is really working together to make it last MORE THAN A DAY. I would get to bed and see that I still have around 40% juice which can be annoying since its not ideal to charge phone at that level but at the same time I dont want to run out tomorrow morning!!! Overall, the XZ2 is a great leap for Sony. We can expect better things to come to their mobile phones :D

Clearly, everything is better on the XPERIA XZ2, except the 3.5mm headphone jack, and if u don't mind the design, and price, then I think u should get it. Both of them are actually excellent for daylight photos in my opinion (Haters please, don't send shots at me, it is my own opinion, and I mean no hate to brands, except for OPPO because of all their gimmicky gimmicks), they got neck and neck with each other. Sharpness is there for the XPERIA XZ, but for the detail and white balance, the XPERIA XZ2 takes the crown, as expected since I looked at GSMARENA's review first before buying, in daylight photos I wouldn't really mind a little bit of noise of course, it ain't bad at all. For low-light photos the XPERIA XZ appeared soft with a lot of noise and less detail, cranking up both the exposure time and ISO, its kind of a shame given the fact that they got the best camera sensor, but their camera software just can't get it right for low-light photos. One scene selection would help though, it is the Night Scene. I tried comparing 2 low-light photos before, one 23MP taken with Manual Mode with no tweaking, and another 23MP taken with Superior Auto with Night Scene at the same place, and it turns out that the one taken with Superior Auto is better, it cleared out a lot of the noise present as compared to the one taken with Manual Mode. But, this is only due to one occasion, I didn't move a single bit of my XPERIA XZ (Or u can just say that a equivalent of it aka the tripod is needed), that's why it is hard to do it for most occasions, and the reason why I decided to use Manual Mode for low-light. But for my XPERIA XZ2, I am impressed because of how much it improved. The photos look sharper, with toned-down noise, and more detail. When I zoomed into the photos I noticed the objects have more sharpness and detail, with more noise, it seems like over here the camera is much more aggressive to noise, but if it helps in sharpness and detail, I'll take it any day over the one that is like the XPERIA XZ. Of course, there are better low-light performers out there, but if u don't care that much, then the XPERIA XZ2 can satisfy u with your use

The phone has face recognition unlock. Pretty much all the android phone has this feature. It's part of google's smart lock. It will always be in every android phone unless google or the phone manufacturer decides to remove it. Yes, the fingerprint scanner is not not a very ideal location but it's a matter of adapting. Sooner or later, you will get used to it. My only complaint is that the scanner is prone to scratches. Well, most phones have fingerprint scanners that can be easily scratched.

It's not 800 euros like it says, its about 700 but that is still quite high. It's a matter of time in getting used to the placement of the fingerprint sensor. I used to place my finger on the cam but after a while, i got used to it and nvr hit the cam lenses. If ur having problems finding the fingerprint placement without looking at the back, just look at the power button. The placement is at the same level as the power button but on the back.

Because every time when I try to unlock my XPERIA XZ2, most of the time my index finger would naturally rest on the camera instead of the fingerprint sensor, and besides for me I always want my smartphones to be free from fingerprint smudges, so it is kind of annoying for me. Another nuisance is that, since I knew this would most likely happen the very next time I unlock my XPERIA XZ2, I have to turn it around and place my index finger on the fingerprint sensor instead of looking at the display or without looking at the display and unlock it naturally like my daily driver XPERIA XZ

Hey did you check apps you have installed? Many apps like Truecaller or ES file explorer or something like that? When your phone is in Ideal condition it is not possible so much battery usage without any app running all the time in background. And not only Sony phones it's true for all brands, unless you have an issue with phone battery.

I switched to an Xperia XZ and what a huge dissappointment: I've got no way to make the battery last longer than 6-8 hours barely using the phone. On a road trip, left my mobile in the backpack for 10 hours and to my surprise battery was at 47% without even touching the phone! Can't stand it at all anymore. For me it isn't that hard to switch to other brands. But don't forget about how smooth and stable Sony phones are. Nokia and Motorola are good too. But Samsung? Never again. Even high end ones are too laggy.

I have been closely watching the comments regarding xperia xz2 in particular and sony phones in general. Myself at present I am using Xperia XA Ultra and have used both Samsung J7 Prime and Samsung Note3. My view is that after the coming of the companies like Oppo, Vivo, Xiaomi, Nokia and others it is very difficult to convince a person who has not used Sony to give it a chance because Sony phones are pricier. Forget about quality, in general now all phones have vast improvement in quality as compared to their predecessors. People in general tend to change their phones after every 2 or 3 years. During this period the Chinese phones give satisfactory performance at a much lower price than Sony. However once you have properly used a Sony phone than it becomes quite difficult to switch to some other brand easily. Those who have faced quality issues with Sony would dump it at the first instance because better phones in specs are available compared to it at lower prices. But in general people like the photographs taken by Sony phones particularly during the daytime. In general except for the high end phones others performance is just OK irrespective of the brand. However one thing stands true for any Sony phones. The pictures of the phones not always do the justice to it. You have to visit the shop and check the phone in hand to realize its beauty. I'm not biased with a brand name, but I love Sony for stability and sturdiness of their phones. I'm regularly reading users opinion here for every new phone arrived and it seems that whenever any new Sony phone arrived people have biased with Brand start trolling Sony's phone. - They always compare IPS LCD with AMOLED or OLED screens, and technically IPS LCD is far better than AMOLED or OLED screens. - People start complaining about design and the same time they love iPhone design which hardly changed since iPhone 4s with big bezels on top and bottom (only exception is iPhone X). - People complaining Battery Life with Samsung and Chinese brands, but they even don't realize that even iPhone is having lower battery than Sony's phone. And even people don't bother that in real life use how phone's hardware and software impacts on your battery life. You have to compare how much hours you required for charging by how much it last long in day to day use. I bet even with lower mAH Sony and iPhone can bit all those mega mAH phone's battery life. - Camera :) all things are good on paper and blogs, but in real life things changed. I do admit night camera is not good in Sony's phone. Although I'd not used latest XZ series yet, so I can not say about it. But in our friend circle and in family we have variety of Brands like from Xiaomi, OPPO, Vivo, iPhone, Huawei and of cource Sony. I will give iPhone and Huawei 1st position in night mode shoot and then rest and yes worst is my Sony T2 Ultra (yes too old but still I'm using in my day to day life and don't have any issues). But if we compare day light photo shoot Xiaomi, OPPO or Vivo are worst, yes believe me their picture quality is worst compare to iPhone, Huawei and Sony (with my old 5 mega pixel). I bought Huawei 8 PRO last year cause of my budget (actually I was planning to buy XZP), but yes quite happy with Huawei Camera. - People compare and give reference to DXO Mark wtf. The whole company is biased and not worthy. Look at current list of phones they have tested. They even tested Asus Zenfone 5 in just less than week of released, but they don't have time to test Sony XZ1, XZ1 Compact, XZ2 and XZ2 compact. - Video oops, frankly tell me who can bit SONY in this section. 960 fps slow motion was first introduced by SONY XZP not Samsung, but Sony's marketing dept is very poor and the result is many people in the world have and image that Samsung has invented new technology (960 fps slow motion). Yes its fact, cause 90% of the smart phone user's not read GSMarena or other tech blogs. - Built quality, you have only two brands Sony and Motorola in this section. Yes even iPhone's screen can be easily broken, ask actual teen age iPhone users how many times they used to change their screen. And Sony I don't remember how many times it falls from my pocket because T2 Ultra is 6.5" and does not fit in my pocket easily. My partner's motorola he dropped it many times from his working table but no issues. For Samsung, if every Samsung users admit from their heart you will find 80% of users have broken screen once or more time. - Weight of phone, Samsung S9+ 189g, Samsung S9 163g, iPhoneX 174g, iPhone 8 Plus 202g while SONY XZ2 is with 198g which is hardly 10 to 20 g higher and 4g lower than iPhone 8 Plus. But don't forget that SONY XZ2 has Triluminos display and Dynamic vibration system which is adding few gms in phone. Above are the all cases where people troll on Sony, but if they truly compare price/performance ratio and of course built quality you will find it their phones are the best. Even though I bought Honor 8 Pro, I feel like I did mistake cause of their built quality. I have to use protection cover and case which adding more than 50 gms (for low weight smart phone lovers), while for my Sony's phone I never used it. In software I like Sony's almost stock android. Yes they need some improvement in UI to make it user friendly in Camera or Video capture section. In this department no one can bit Samsung for now a days :). Yes I do praise Samsung for their UI not for their software, their OS is too heavy and blotted. Google Pixel's OS is damm good but UI is something where Samsung beat every others. I hate Apple, cause of their policy. They are highest profiting company just because premium price and they are charging small amounts for almost every app and if you count $1 for one app for 10 million user it is $10 million and they have 100s of apps like these. Plus every developer account is cost per year a $100 and you will find minimum 1 million developer account so 100 million they are making from developers :(. They claim these charges for secured iOS wtf, then why jail break iOS available? I do love Google Pixel series and google prove that even with single camera result can be the best and that is what Sony is doing for years. You can not compare Phone Photo shoots with DIGI Cams or Pro Cameras. So what ever Samsung or OPPO or Xiaomi lovers claims the best result of their photos are fooling themselves. Those photos are only good for your memories and for social media, and that is what actually we only need from our Smart Phone. So in my opinion, If Sony make their Marketing policy and Software UI better, they can be top smart phone selling company. And for all Smart Phone buyers my advice is just go with your requirements and budget. If your budget is higher check price/performance ratio and built quality. Samsung and Apple will give all these at premium price which actually available at lower price from Sony, Google, Huawei and HTC.

I just got it. The phone is very durable. Probably the most durable phone I have ever own. It does not bend easily. Everything is good except touch response from the screen. It doesn't seem to notice small movements like small zig-zags would appear as a straight line. I don't know how to explain but you can try it out for yourselves. Try drawing tiny loops and it would appear as a dot. The speakers are not as loud as many phones but the sound quality is top notch. The camera does alright except for the super slo mo mode. It slo mo video in artificial lighting environment. Is that normal?

the problem is that it ISNT thick enough.im a fan of bezels.better for playing games as the distance between the palm and buttons is wide.thus reducing strain on the thumb...playing mobile legends on my S9P is awful.for an hour its okay...but for 2 hours or more i would still prefer playing on my XZP which i use mostly for games now since S9P sucks for games...

My experience is the reverse after having a number of them - Sony batteries (their own batteries) are pretty good, whether in phones or bought individually. So are LG. Sony's battery saving software also works well.

I had test the XZ2 in hand it is fine I mean it isn't heavy at all because it fit in hand and very ergonomic. I hand the XZ2 lower on the base as I always use on a smartphone and it fingerprint scanner is a very nice placement on it back cover, although I still prefer side mounted fingerprint scanner like XZ. The design on paper isn't like the real one, the real one is very gorgeous and premium and sleek, you can know the design totally from Japanese styles.

I hate the new design. My co-worker has one... this phone is exceptionally heavy and its roundness reminds me of an HTC. If you want a true Sony Xperia style design in 2018, the only phone offering that is the Razer Phone. If you want Xperia style side mount finger print, omnibalance design language, sleek hard angles like a true Xperia phone - only Razer offers this.

I have an XZ Premium, and I was disappointed with the XZ2 design, because when you see it online is not the same story with when you get your hands on it... and WOW, really not biased to XZ2.. but it definitely is more comfortable to hold in hand than XZ Premium.. looks so gorgeous, so premium, so sleek, and the screen sharpness is stunning! i decided to sell my XZ Premium and keep the XZ2.. it really convinced me, though the XZ Premium is a great phone in all terms but XZ2 is the winner for me in all terms too! trust me, is worth getting it... even It's camera is better than s9 or s9+ especially in night shots... i watched couple of trusted reviews and they crowned it to XZ2... get it and you won't regret.... well mine was the 4GB model :( , i wished it was the 6GB one... the only one with 6GB of ram is the H8296 (dual sim).. the rest of variant single / dual sim are 4GB

Ive waited for the xz2 but when i saw it im so disappointed and turn off with the design, i instead bought the beast xa2 ultra and saved extra bucks. and now im very much happy and satisfied with it. I still love the boxy design of sony before xz series perhaps. It is sleek and elegant, they shoul consider that design, its almost perfect, then they trim down the bezels, thats the only complain about xperia phones those huge bezels. I am the Sony fans, now I am much like the new design because the new design is much better for grip, the Omni Balance and Loop surface design language still very nice forever and even in the first looks but the design language are moving forward to next generations. For some "Sony fan" saying they hate the new design and even telling people the new design like the HTC, do you know the HTC is using an uneven back cover design unlike Sony using the equally back cover design! 1. It is not qnovo. It is battery care function in setting. It is also pretty useless cos the phone can't guess when will you wake up. Not all people wake up at, lets say 6 every morning. Somedays, I woke up at 6 but some days I woke up at 9. The phone can't guess that. At least sony should add function to manually control this feature. This is one of the reasons why almost no one buys sony. They have some good ideas but implementation is pretty bad. Let's say 960p slow mo. It is a good idea but capturing the right moment is almost impossible. It fails. But, when samsung used this idea, they made 100times better than sony and their phones sell like hot cakes. 2. There is no trials that qnovo can extend battery life span. So, no proof. You can trust all they said but I don't. On their website, they state 4 things - safty first, faster charging, more battery life and longer life span. But, what I know is, charging time is painfully long even with QC3.0 charger. Now you know, they are lying.

Dont lie. I have XZ premium and when it was new I got 5.5 hours of SOT but after 1 year later only got 4.5hours of SOT. Qnovo is just a gimmick.

Ever Since the launch of xperia xz2 I have been closely looking at the opinions of both the Sony Fans and Sony haters regarding it. I then watched many videos comparing xz2 with other phones both in speed and camera. My conclusion is that the still pictures dont do any justice to the looks of XZ2 . However if you closely watch the videos then you may appreciate that it indeed looks beautiful. The camera performance of XZ2 has increased drastically so this led to shift my focus on XZ2 premium with dual camera having higher apertures. I am waiting for its camera review. performance is already given by XZ2 beating iphone X and Samsung S9. In case of SONY seeing is believing. You need a hand on experience to appreciate or reject it paper specs do not do any justice.

How is there no proof lol, the function is there: you can have the phone charge a small remaining fraction before you wake up. When it comes to Li-Ion batteries, this is pretty important as overcharge or constant charging really hinders their efficiency in the long run. But anyway the subject is probably way overdue by now, frankly, I still doubt it can compete with any of the big players like the S9+ et al. I find your other statement rather worrying, I really wouldn't expect their SD845 to throttle, that really sucks. I wonder if other brands have this issue.

Honestly, that's the only reason I really liked Sony up to XZ2. And I'm sure it's the same for a significant amount of people too, the fact that Sony didn't care about trendy designs and held onto their own for generations. And you're totally right to go for HTC/Samsung, etc. to find whatever you're looking for, be it a fancy screen, better camera and so on. I never really cared about those, heck, I remember the days when Nokia were topping the market with 2mp cameras and they looked amazing. Anyway, I could blame them for anything but storage speed and overall performance, however. If I were you I would check some professional measurements, I'm quite sure, in fact, that Sony is quite high up there with their read speeds and overall optimization. That's why they stuck to a smaller drive, and I can tell you they (r/w) are bloody fast even on Z5P. Could be possible Samsung have better read speeds by now, but I wouldn't bet on it. If you just want bulk storage let the SDD do its thing, unless you need a lot of 4K video recording. As for Jack, I totally agree, it's such a letdown they removed one of their core features, that they just keep giving people more reasons not to go for their phones. The battery may be small, but the GSMA staff rated it quite high, might not be worth dismissing their take on it yet. This new Qnovo tech is quite promising, I'd get one just for that.

If they wanted to stay in the top players on the industry, you 'few people', wouldn't really matter to them. They'd go for the majority obviously. Just a bit disappointed that they have totally removed the headphone jack and they never put large batteries in their flahship. Also, their storage options are kinda smallish compared to other OEMs. Huawei flagships, Nokia, Sony, Samsung, Apple, HTC and especially Google are the only worth to buy for me.

Just tested XZ2, and about design and thickness - while holding it in hand, it doesn't feel like it's 11 mm thick (or fat, whatever),it's very comfortable to hold it, far away from slippery design - I had chance to compare it face-to-face with S8 (basicly the same as S9) and P20 pro, and the first phone I have to be careful to not drop it was P20 pro, and S8 felt more fat in hands as XZ2. anyway, design seems cool to me, just fingerprint should be higher..

While I can't assure you we're a majority, I'm quite convinced a few of us actually go to Sony for their signature, 'boxy' design. If I want a Samsung look-alike, why would I not just go for a Samsung? Or save the cash and get a good/budget Chinese brand? In fact I'd rather say Sony's shift is either a desperate attempt to stay in the top 10 chart or simply a brand refresh with the same purpose (underlining that it doesn't necessarily mean it's the right way of doing it). Always went to Sony specifically for their trademark design (stereo speakers, FP hidden in the power button, elegant non-rounded design), none of which they have kept. Their downfall has always been their camera, FHD screen and terrible delay in bug-fixing, all of which started past the Z3 gen and never really got dealt with. I really hope they keep it as an alternative and offer its traditional design with the pro version (if it ever goes into production), at the very least.

I went to the store to try this phone. It's a real beauty, comfortable to hold, not thick at all, also not heavy, really well balanced, but the positioning of the fp sensor is realy uncomfortable. I had to make an index finger claw to reach it and I smudged the camera almost every time. The one on XA2 an XZ2C is much more easy to use.

I just put my XZ2 facedown on the table and with bluetoth headset connectet and look there i can listen too music after that i disconnect bluetoth and listen too the xz2 loudspeaker and i hear music very loud the with phone facedown. XZ2 has more durable because it is much thicker on it center while the edge is slimmer, it bring the better grips and more ergonomic! Plus the anti-twist metal frame it sure can pass the Jerryrigeverything smartphone durability bend test. Does your phone has the more ergonomic than XZ2? I've owned the Taiwan 6GB XZ2 for about a week now in the US. Here's my opinions (coming from a 4GB OnePlus 2 and using my wife's Samsung J7). I use this phone casually but often, such as for email, Snapchat, Facebook, Bluetooth audio streaming, Pokemon Go, light gaming, etc. I'm not a professional reviewer; just want to share my experiences as an average, long-term, fairly unbiased user. - FAST. Holy cow. The 845 just eats tasks like nobody's business. I never feel any lag. I've had a couple apps randomly crash though (twice? Nothing to write home about) - The battery life is amazing. I don't know why people are knocking battery life. I'm about to leave work after about 9 hrs and after using Bluetooth to play music on the drive over, control Android Wear/Pokemon Go Plus, surf the web a bit, replay to emails, take/watch some Snaps, etc and the battery life is at 80%. My OP2 would be at 25% or less...and I'd charge it on the drive here. - The dynamic vibration gimmick... I don't get it. I don't think I'll ever enable it. BUT... (here is something I think no reviewer has mentioned) the vibration strength when notifications/calls come in IS AMAZING. I LOVE IT. I can feel it no matter what AND it's not loud. It doesn't sound like a buzzer. I finally feel confident that I wont miss a call when I'm in a noisy environment, and it won't annoy my coworkers when I'm in a meeting! - The display is sharp and looks very good. Its not as big of a leap from the OnePlus2 as I expected, but the whites and blacks are definitely better. Brightness is better. HDR is pretty gimmicky but cool. This is asking for trouble but I am so glad it is not an OLED display. Why? Because I know 3 people (including my wife) who has experienced bad burn-in on their AMOLEDs. There is also some kind of flicker on AMOLEDs which stresses my eyes out...? The auto backlight is much better than on any other phone I've used. - The body feels great in my hands. Its a very comfortable phone to hold and type on. It is also pretty, but...ugh...it's so slippery. It slides off of every uneven surface. Fingerprints show up REALLY easily too, but the come off just as easily (in my pocket or whatever). - The Bluetooth is really stable (something that bugged me about the OP2). I can play music in my car, use my Android Wear watch, and have my Pokemon Go Plus connected, all without any issue. - The lack of bloat is great. I've disabled AVG and most of the Sony apps. This was most of the reason why I avoided Samsung... The Music app is good though and, while it's not perfect, it made me finally drop Poweramp... - I can't plug the phone into the built in USB port on my Honda Fit or it freezes & reboots. Not sure if it's the car or the cable yet... My OP2 and the J7 work fine. - Front facing camera may be 5MP, but it's great for social media. Not sure why people are knocking that. EIS is a godsend although not perfect. I really like how it maintains high frame rate (60fps?) even in low-light environments. It's smooooooth. - I haven't taken a lot of shots with the rear camera, but it appears to be pretty good. HDR mode seems to blow out/exaggerate the colors and make things look unnatural (on the device with indoor lighting at least). I miss OIS...but the EIS is better than I expected. The shots I took look sharper than shots I've found online from the S9+ and such... Also, the 2-step photo button is great. - LTE is super snappy compared to any other phone I've used. Web pages load really fast. I do get 4G+ in my area too... - Using GPS Status app, GPS is accurate to within 11ft/3m seconds after opening the app! Google Maps & Pokemon Go lock me to my location really, really fast compared to my OP2. - No VoLTE on T-Mobile. A little disheartening, but...meh. Maybe it can be fixed with a file swap from the US version like the XZ1 series could. - I miss hardware buttons. :( - I miss the 3 position hardware slider to set my ringer on my OP2. I didn't use it much though. - The rear fingerprint reader works really great & snappy, but I agree that the position is a little too low. I've mistaken the camera for the FP reader a few times. - Audio quality is OK. Better than any phone I've owned, but not as good as other small devices I've had. Bass is pretty uneven...although from viewing distance, you can't tell. The stereo effect is great. - Call quality is perfect. No issues there. Way better than my OP2 (except for the lack of VoLTE fidelity). Its fairly forgiving to head position. - Android 8 feels really mature compared to Android 6 on the OP2... Amazing what they did to make daily tasks more intuitive. - This phone just feels mature...and I think that's what made me go Sony this round. They're not cutting edge, but they make sure things are mature before release.

Rubbish, I've had their phones since the original Z model came out (which still works now by the way) had the Z2, Z3, Z3 compact, Z5 premium. Made the mistake of moving over to One Plus for a couple of phones, the 3 & 3T. Now if you want to talk about a company who don't care less about their customers, that's the company. No customer service really at all. When your phone breaks like mine, I was without one for 5 weeks and just got a bunch of excuses until they replaced the motherboard, lol a motherboard on a 3-month-old phone Then I went back to the reliable Sony, that always updated, practically vanilla android & never had a problem with any phone apart from one, where the micro USB port broke that needed sending back and was without it for 10 days, the shop offered a back up though. Anyway since that mistake all my personal phones for the wife & myself have been a Sony Xperia XZ Premium & Sony Xperia XZ1 Compact which were both a work of art IMO. That's not to say I haven't enjoyed plenty of other phones through work, which we get new every 18 months.I've has just about every galaxy phone released but hate how easy the Edge phone broke particularly when you spend a lot of time on a building site like me as an architect. Also, had Apple's phones forced on us and tbh until about the 6th one they were efficient phones, nothing but efficient. Love the LG G4, G5 & V20, also like the Blackberry Passport, that was different and was very tempted by the V30 but will probally wait now to see what work offers in a few months. Anyway, you can see the level of sophistication of these posters, when leaving comments like they won't buy it because the fingerprint scanner is in the wrong place. i don't see how you can even say that without having the phone in your hand and if you've owned phones over the years you know that you quickly adapt to something different or in a new place. Personally the XZ2 is nice looking & very intertesting, not too far removed in looks that you don't know it's a Sony, so it doesn't completely alienate their eXisting fans but with less beZels and a new aspect ratio. I like that they've gone with a 5.7 inch factor. which is the sweet spot for me at that aspec raio.I used a 6 inch one the oher day and i's like a smasung note 4 or somehing it felt big. Top SOC as usual, glad to see the move to 6GB Ram, i think it was time. Battery is about right and bigger than the S9. I'll have to try the camera myself because some of these tests they run are all over the place, just like the previous phone, Some people not rating it, while others thought itt was one of the best, AS for this thread, long story short Sony release a new phone & it brings the haters out en mass to pick tiny faults. On my own opinion the XZ2 is a big change on the xperia line up, now with smoother bezels and better body to screen ratio. Sony is focusing on the everyday lifestyle of a person and i can say that they've done a great job, they are not copying other smartphone companies because they have many ideas on how to maintain your xperia devices smoothness even though after a year or 2, so i think i'm sticking with sony because they take care of there customers and i am proud to be a sony fanboy since i was using there technology for a very long time. I liked the loop surface design, just like any other comments, we would recommend the XA1 design just trim the top and bottom bezels and add FF stereo speakers just like on their other phones. Front camera has fantastic details. The review encourage everybody to use the photo comparisons tool, find the little magnifying glass on the left of the pound note and zoom in. On the xz2 one can clearly see the engraving with thin circles. On the s9 you hardly see them and there are obvious moire patterns. IPhone x has no fine detail at all just the colored blobs inside representing flowers. This is in no way the only thing making a great camera, but the fine low contrast details are just fantastic

Last weekend i was in a shop and played abit with the XZ2 the first thing that really catched my eyes was the new look and design and how comfortible the phone feels when holding the phone i was impressed yes and it is a diffrent story when you see the phone in real life and this beast is very smooth and fast so instead of ordering the s9 i ordered the XZ2 and also the price is much lower then s9 and sony is alot faster with updating their phones i know the new design and remove of the jack is for some people here at this side a big problem but that dos nt change the fact that the XZ2 has alot to offer for the price.

Today i go to shop to see actual phone By appearance phone look very nice. So beautiful But finger print scanner quit awkward The new design if purpose for easy to hold.. My opinion is rubbish, maybe for smaller phone or old screen ratio. But for tall screen it seem not balance when i grip the phone (i mean grip at the usual place when we hold the phone) I like what sony did but overall the back design of phone was no for me(when i compare with my lg g6). Finally, a Sony fanboy talking the truth. How Refreshing. Yes, correct, Sony was so close with last models. All Sony had to do was trim down the bezels, improve camera for bad low light photos (maybe OIS) and improve the speakers volume. Plus many people disliked the square corners. Sony has, changed to rounded corners, appears to have improved the low light photos, appears to have increased speaker volume,..... BUT, removed the 3.5mm headphone jack, lowered the screen resolution and turned to back into a ugly soap bar design.....Seriously Sony ? ...do you want to lose more sales ?

Guys he is right let's face it, xz2 is nothing like a Sony phone and that's a huge downside. Removed the headphone jack when I was certain they wouldn't, abandoned the offline radio completely, killed their uniqueness and luxury in design and on top of it they made it as thick as my old w995. I'm a Sony boy but come on this is a stupid move. All they had to do was to trim the bezels a bit, put a better camera software and improve the speakers. Bro, btw sony xz2 + htc u11 definitely has the gorilla glass on front + back, but i think sony not try to copying, just sony want to give the room for the FPS behind the battery pack, but dont wanna sacrifice the slim design, so the back glass of xz2 to be curved shape in the middle, and also sony want the xz2 made from glass to feel classy like the sony flagship phone before.. Remember G lens on z5, its turn out only a plastic lens. Ambient flow is a copy of liquid. Like the rule of copying, change it a little bit, so it doesnt look obvious you copy. I am using Sony phone but let's be honest, Sony camera is maybe comparable with Samsung, iPhone fow daylight but for low light it is not as good as them. I can't say if you are good at photography that you can spend time to perfect manual setting each time you want to take a picture. Apart from camera, I think Sony is above the rest. I would see Sony as the most reliable, practical phone with innovative features instead of trying to argue that Sony camera is better than iPhone or Samsung.

Blind? The lowlight samples of the xz2 are as sharp as the daylight samples of the S9. The 1080p video samples of the xz2 are as sharp or slightly less than the 4k video samples of the s9.

DxoMark? Reliable? Its a site comparing mostly unknown lowrange phones from unknown brands, and some midrangers now. (LYF, Intex, Lava,....??) Check their listings for last year. Some big mobile brands dont trust DxoMark anymore. Because they lost their credibility since their "new protocol", when they just "unintentionally" included some specific test protocols, to accomodate scoring for the release of certain new phones from certain brands. And also changed their scoring to ridiculous and mathematicaly unplausable, getting overall scores of 99 from a range of subscores 63 to 92 (???), and therefore so easily susceptable to bias. It is funny that Arena actually became more reliable and thorough than Dxo for mobile camera testing, even tho we have to conclude on subscores ourselves here, from comparisson test tool and their real use shots and videos. But Dxo? Became a joke. And it shows, in their mobile section portfolio. Never even heard of most of those phones, that made it there in last half a year. What is LYF, Intex, Lava?! If you realised that if Sony phones were competing with other brands, you could see on comments section which flooded with many poor Sony fans praising their own brand, saying Sony wins. True, 2016 sept Sony CEO gave sony mobile a year to turn profitable. And 2017 they finally made profit. How? sony mobile only sold 1,2M phones per month, while LG sold 1,6 M phone and it still make loss. Its bcz LG didnt do cost cutting, they are research a lot for modular G5, small sales high cost mean loss, while Sony mobile also made small sales but they didnt research. They did copy two things: Phone's back design looks quite close to HTC U11( even mentioned in GSMA's XZ2 review) and removal of headphone jack(their exec themselves told they are just following the trend!). An 8.5mm thick s9+ has a headphone jack and a 11mm thick xz2 doesn't have. Can you justify this? Sony missed a golden opportunity to strike big.

The camera is amazing at low light. Even s9 is less detailed and that's saying something. Too bad it doesn't have a headphone jack and the design is a step in the wrong direction to my eyes. But it's undeniably great camera capabilities, great stereo speaker quality and good accuracy hdr screen are big steps since last year. 0,3 second at 720p., and about 0.2 second in fhd. Its good enough, its just too complicated to shot. You need to prepare the shot, start video recording, tap slow mo, it doesnt start right after you tap slow mo button, point second before it. So, even if you prepare the shot you will likely miss the moment most of times. If it important to have super slow mo, go to s9, its 1000times better..

Ambient means "spatial design", flow means "motion" and can be just about anything water, lava, air, etc... Just because there are liquid particles as part of the background , doesnt mean it has anything to do with design. Liquid particles are also part of XA2 theme, and it has nothing to do with Ambient flow design. Just because colors are named by sea or liquid on some instances, doesnt mean they are connected to the outer design. Sony had Deep sea black and blue on the Omnibalance design also.... And its a beautiful design, with an eyebleeding lack of a 3.5 mm hole. Us Sony fans dont like it just because its so all different all of a sudden, an unpractical trendy mess...just like all other phones out there now. But it is in no waay ugly looking. Camera position is not decided by sony's engineers. It only depends on which phone they copy from. They copied design from iphone's glass sandwich design and camera placement for past xperias(starting from xperia Z) Now with XZ2, they copied design from htc U11 plus, so their camera placement is in the middle.

HTC use Liquid design language but Sony use AMBIENT FLOW design language! "Liquid" is like a drop of water it has heavier the upper position and lighter at the bottom back cover area because it is totally no a symmetry design. You don't have to turn over your phone to unlock it. When you pick up your phone your finger naturally rests over the sensor, so you can unlock it easier. I think you've never tried using a phone with a rear FP scanner. Use it, it's a lot easier than a front FP scanner.

XZ2 side view is 6mm thinnest on edge and the center is 12.1mm, so it is definitely truly a pyramid-shaped from its center (that's why the X can shine on its back over), while HTC U11 has flattened the back cover on its bottom part, it much less ergonomic. Actually Htc back glass shape looks a lot alike Samsung S9 back, just more glossy. Both have curves, retaining somewhat boxy look. XZ2 is all glossy slides, from edges up to the center, giving an X shaped look. If its to be a fashionable trendy design, its Quite good IMO.

Yup, looks like some Htc, but remembering back Xperia Neo V and L back design, with same back curve,camera and sensor placement, it looks even more like those, just with glass back. I or you might not like it, but I cant say its ugly in any way, its a fashionable product now, but not practical at all as previous Z and X series Xperias. Back Glass gives a X shape light bending here, which looks quite good, and it slides from 6mm edge to 11 mm center here, while other similar looking phones have bends on that glass. About 3D scanner front, well, yeah, we could call it gimmick, but it is more advanced and less gimmick than what others offer with animoji thing. And DVS is not a gimmick, just enhanced vibration system that all phones already have. Wouldnt call vibration a gimmick, its a useful and omnipresent thing on phones since ages. Yes XZ2 does have 3D scanner with AR integration, much advanced feat than simple animojis creator. Yes, DVS is great for gaming and apps, its a proactive haptic feedback, not passive dependant on the app as all till now. Its a DualShock PS controller feature on a phone now. Expect some dedicated games for that. Not a gimmick at all...or you think every smartphones vibration system is a gimmick too? I like the phone for Sony revamping its design language. it takes a lot for a manufacturer to get rid of its trademark build to follow and keep up with trends. It looks like HTC because you don't know how a HTC U11/+ and XZ2 compare in looks. Yes, both of them have curved backs. But the curvature is different in the XZ2, hence the reason it reflects light differently than the HTC. Seriously, just because the back is curved doesn't mean the design was stolen by Sony. It's 2018 and we've come to the point where all phones are starting to become slabs of glass on metal frames, and now with the whole "bezel less" trend going on, phones are starting to looking similar to each other. Yeah, a big mistake on the jack thing. But looking overall, aside jack less and Xperia fans dissapointment with some design changes, XZ2 with its 5+ innovations ( hdr recording, hdr upscaling, dvs, front 3d scanner and 1080p super slo mo), and added tech ( wireless charge, camera ISP, fm antenna for 1.2 gbit), is atm best innovative smartphone IMO. And really great looking IMO, even tho I prefer omnibalance monolith design much more.

If you notice, while both the U11 and XZ2 have curved backs, the curvature is different in both phones. You can see how they both reflect light different from each other. And different camera placement, FP placement etc. Up front, it's still like other Sony phones, expect we have a longer screen and less bezels. 2. Define "color correction". While OLED is the future of smartphone displays (until micro LED comes I guess), as of now it's not a matured technology unlike LCD. LCDs have no drawbacks, while with OLED, your display will - degrade over passage of time - risk of getting screen burn-in - OLED lottery At least you can use LCD displays with a peace of mind of not worrying about burn-ins. Also, you can adjust white balance on almost every smartphone display, so your claims about LCD having poor "color correction" is therefore invalid. 3. You seriously thought the phone records continuous 960 FPS videos? LOL. As of now, technology only permits you to record 960 FPS videos for 0.6 seconds. So yeah, it's not a memory hog like 4K videos and a phone with 64 GB storage is sufficient for recording 960 FPS videos. Also, you can always add an SD card should you ever run out of space. 4. Sony obviously has a wireless charging dock, what are you smoking? Go search it on Sony's website. 5. This. Has to be the most stupid thing I've read in a while. And one of the many reasons the companies (big companies) didn't do this is because it's an optical sensor, which is less secure because an optical sensor just takes a picture of your fingerprint, whereas a capacitive sensor scans every ridge and pore of your fingerprint and is more accurate. So I would trust the capacitive ones more than this optical. And why do they copy Apple's design? I really don't know, up until not, many Chinese smartphone copied the iphone 7+'s design, and now the X design. I really think the 'notch' is stupid, I really hate it, I played around with the iPhone X a bit and watched some videos and the notch really bothered me.

Also, I'm sick of telling this over and over: the XZ2 is 8mm around the edges and 11mm at the thickest point. There is no internal component situated between the frame and the thickest point. XZ2. From what I heard, U11+ has a dim display, average battery life despite the huge 3930mAh battery, slower processor (not that it matters a lot). But you can get the U11+ if it's a lot cheaper than XZ2.

3. Under screen fingerprint sensors are hard to manufacture, are slower, (slower than the XZ1 sensor, the XZ1 was blazing fast), more expensive and can only be used on OLED. It's not a trend yet, but it's a beginning. Plus, it's only on that Vivo phone. If you want it so badly, why didn't Apple do it? 6. I don't care what you say, a microSD card saved my ass many times, I had phones crash, but thankfully, a microSD card is always there with my data. You do realize the XZ2 has a curved back right? The thickness is around 8mm near the edges, and 11mm at the thickest point. This is why the device is curved, so that it fits perfectly in your hand and therefore its more ergonomic than previous Sony devices and other flagships as well.

3. Yes, the fingerprint sensor is in an awkward place, I would love to see it on the side again. 4. As I said, maybe on the next flagship. But I don't think that the logo was the problem, if it was, I really don't know what they were thinking, they could've then made it smaller, and the bezel with it. 6. Alright, you like internal storage, I like SD Cards, that's it. You're not gonna change my opinion. Most manufacturers implement it, so I don't see the problem. 7. Yeah, I kinda didn't see a surprise, the surprise was just some kind of a sneak peek. I'm savin' for the Premium model.

Sony used to have some of the most beautiful phones on the market(like Xperia Z5, XA1 and maybe SP too). I currently have an ancient Xperia M2 Aqua in use. It's not that great, but does its job as a spare phone. But now they have fucked up. The new 2018 phones look just AWFUL, especially the back sides of them. The 18:9 display makes them look stretched out and it just does not look and feel like Sony anymore, it's more like a cheap Chinese brand. Just my opinion, though.

The main reason for buying a Xperia was that it was black, angular, serious, masculine. Loved the side-mounted fingerprint reader and the flat back. Xperias looked different, and well, better than any other Android. It was literally the only Android a person with taste could buy, regardless of its rather mediocre tech and somewhat too high price. Now Sony ruined it all. The new Xperia should simply be called "The Humpback". It looks absolutely atrocious. Glass on the back of a phone is ugly, domed glass is horrible. Is the phone pregnant? If I buy it, will I get little phones in nine months? Removing their single outstanding feature (unique tdesign) leaves Sony with a phone that is nothing special. Giving the phone a humpback leaves Sony with a phone I wouldn't buy even it its tech was better than the iPhone X.

And can you tell me how did you use those two smartphones? Did you even tried on playing intensive games, splitscreen multitasking, social media communication via facebook, twitch, twitter, & etc via respective apps like the messenger, twitter app, and such, surf the web, watch youtube, etc? BTW, can you provide me the actual memory usage app from the settings and tell me which app eats a lot of memory?

What was your phone? Of course microSD card is the solution for short storage space on android. But as an experienced android user. It is not. Let say that the microSD card gets corrupted. Other than its un-recoverable state. The storage space has been reduced down to 10% of its 100% capability. Just so you know. Android bring out the microSD card restriction on android kitkat. So even up to the latest version of android. You cannot even modify or delete the content of the SD card from the phone without requiring you to root your phone which may cause bootloops. 7. Saving? Before the MWC had began. On february 24 this year. Sony has released a teaser which they will announced 2 smartphone devices and 1 surprises. So literally, they should have annouced a third device if you say that its a 10th year anniversary of sony xperia smartphones!

Hopefully next time with tele lens, shown dual cam(iso50000), 4K screen, 1sec slo mo with audio, at least 3 mics and bigger battery(so it last longer with sound vibrations). They could also trim those bezels, 18:9 screen with bezel makes really tall phone. There are already truly bezelless phones, with apple coming close and others like samsung going also the next year(camera/sensors under screen,...). They just lag too much behind and their flagships are like unfinished. Got somebody still shot samples done with xz2?

1. They should change it and make it flatter with a fp sensor on the side, I know, you're right. 2. I don't drop my phone, like... ever, so that's not a problem for me. 3. I don't think you have to look back every time you unlock your phone. Muscle memory will improve and you'll just know where to put your finger, plus, there's a ridge for it for easy finding. Plus, the under display fp sensor is hard to manufacture, costs a lot, not entirely accurate, and much slower, if you ever tried a fp sensor on the XZ1, that thing is fast, wow... Plus, I agree, it should be on the side, but I think we have to blame the US market for that. I think Sony should make a global and US version with different fp sensor locations. 4. I don't know, but, it's a start. Maybe on the next flagship. 5. It's just a tease. Personally, I like the idea, but dual cameras were never good looking on a smartphone for me. But if it's functional, sure. 6. Ok, now you're just exaggerating, in 2010 I had a smartphone with barely 256MB. Plus, Apple has it, Samsung has it, and expandable storage is just getting better and better. I personally think that making a SD card slot is better than making different motherboards with different amounts of storage. Because If you have money for just an iPhone 7 32GB, and you fill it up, and you want more, you can't get it. In this case, just pop in a SD card and you're good. It's an opinion, not a fact, I like this, and you like that, no big deal. 7. You'll get no argument there. Maybe they're saving up for the Premium, this year in fact is Sony's 10 year anniversary of Xperia. (first Xperia with Android, the X10)

Have you not read the comments? 12 mm only in the middle! On the sides it's 6mm, thinner than an iPhone. Plus, it's 11 mm. They curved it so the consumer will have a more comfortable hold.

They should sell a global version with the fingerprint sensor on the side, and a US version with the fingerprint sensor on the back, I really miss the one on the side

The front of this phone reminds me of the ZL in terms of bezels and screen ratio. I like it. Don't understand all the hate. My only hate on this phone is the camera is unchanged and it's software likely the same meaning it'll be crap against its competitors.

I'd rather see they make longer slow-motion record than upgrading video resolution, keep the old design than this new horrible design because their big bezels such a unique, flat-built mirror finish than rounded side glass. And headphone jack than nothing. I'm not a fan of headphone jack but Sony needs to hear their customers especially for their loyal fans. Not showing despise but they solved already their mistakes but at the same time, create new other mistakes.

Sony puts the fingerprint sensor on the back in favour of available the feature on US. They can't bring the side-mounted phones because Apple have that pattern, from what I know.

Seems like Sony engineers for some reason can't keep up with current generation technologies... They can't seem to follow the "minimal bezel" trends that even the new brand VIVO can do. There is no reason for Sony to NOT follow the current trends other than that because most consumer wants it, and Sony knew about it. They instead came up with this UGLY asymmetric, thick, pregnant and bulgy device called Xperia XZ2 and XZ2 compact -_-) I still prefer the omnibalance design, or even loop design... because they differentiate Xperias from other brands unlike this new one. Seeing this new design reminds me of Redmi Note and Zenfone lines.
