OS is android version 2.3.3.the present android version is 4.3. no upgrade is available for this phone after more than one and a half years after launch. there is no one to give a correct answer about the OS at acer.co.in. more over no support tab at acer.co.in for smartphones.

Full Screen applications problem can be solved very easily by installing 'launcher pro' and then go to launcher pro settings, then un-check the compatibility mode. on the other hand WIFI problem can also be easily handle by upgrading its software. No need to worry @ all. write full screen application problem in Acer S300 in the google, then there would be a page having detail to overcome this problem. :-)

Its graphics are fine, but it crashes again & again asking force close. Especially when connect with Viber, Skype,facebook etc. Also no provision to add contact from message menue. I'll not recommend it.

got this handset 2 weeks ago, must restrict complimentary words. The HP looks just Ok, though bulky, and power is MAH 1500 rather inadequate. The sound is just OK, nothing to praise. Not tried the camera, and other AUX features, yet.Hope it proves its specifications.

So what? Do you really understand what is SAR value? It measures the power of radiation absorbed by your body when the phone is transmitting MAXIMUM power. But in reality, your phone doesn't ALWAYS transmitting power at maximum level, especially when you have a good reception. The phone might be gr8, but i found 2 problem reading the spec. first of the rom is only 512MB.... for a high end phone like this i think we need for rom space. the second issue is the processor. its only 1 GHZ. things are developing so fast that i believe this specification wont be worthy with a very short time. i hope the other options like multimedia are gr8. need users clear opinion as i m planning to buy one.

Holy Cow! Got my one yesterday! It exists! So far I've found it great. The shape feels perfect for a phone with this big a display. I wonder whether Galaxy Note etc. do feel so handy in use. Yes, the handset is "heavyish", but that's something I wasn't (& ain't) uncomfortable with. The build is overall extremely good and solid, only one button (the camera one) could be better. So not at all as bad as many "Acer-bashers" have predicted. So far I've been rather positively impressed with Iconia Smart (obviously I've been using it only a rather short while now...) If only Acer's marketing was as good as the phone - in April (when is was supposed to be released) this handset would have been an absolute stand-out in the public. That having been said, I still believe it is, am happy with it, and do think the shape is perfect for a big display unit as this - anything wider (as Galaxy Note??) I'd think I'd personally feel uncomfortable with.

@Bagh: well finally some good news? Ye to agree with the previous commenter the specs could use a refresh, though regardless acer will be my next. Dual-core just going to rape my batt life. Too bad the N900 died on you, what you think of the N9? I think Nokia made a mistake to not sell the N9 and use Meego as their OS of choice. Though Meego needs a name change and the N9 wont be coming to North America. Lol X10 mini, well that is quite a difference. I don't know how you survive on that. my full size X10 is serving me, though I am tired of it. Plus I can't be bothered to put 2.3 on it or root it. Time for a change. @Rob: I got an unexpected phonecall yesterday, comfirming that the phone will be available on the 8th of August (at least here in Europe). So here's some hope! And this time I'm really inclined to believe it to be true. I, too, had started to think the hanset will be cancelled... I had as my primary phone the Nokia n900, which broke down some time back. Meanwhile I've been using Xperia x10 mini pro, my secondary handset, and waiting for a handset for my taste to become available (Iconia smart being my choice, obviously). The x10 mini is okay as a secondary phone to me, but the size of the display and bad zooming methods make me believe there won't be many people around, who'd fancy it as their sole phone...

@Bagh I am getting the feeling that this phone is just like a unicorn. Just something that only one can fantasise about. Out of all the smartphones it was the most interesting. Samsung despite their claim of not copying the iphone was to iphoney for me (icon style and I didn't like the 3 button mix layout. I would have to wait for the American carrier specific 4 capacitive button version.) HTC had me until the anntenna problem. And well dual-core isn't all that given Android battery life. So I do hope they launch the phone sooner than later as I am looking at the Bionic as my next. @Bagh I shall keep trying to get a response from Acer as I am tired of my X10. Btw @Bagh what is your current phone?

I have been waiting for my order since April like everyone else. My order went from 6 days to 20 days and the website show that the USA is no longer available for it to be shipped. This is the sixth time it was pushed back. I told them to send a samsung Galaxy 2 instead. I guess Acer wasn't serious with getting in big with the cell phone industry. This can't have anything to do with Japan. Something is wrong in production which makes me doubt the quality.

Totally agree with patience being a virtue. But my main thrust is at the way Acer is handling with this all. Giving some more information as to the actual release date � or confirming the fact that the product is cancelled � wouldn�t do bad to Acer�s reputation in my eyes. I don�t find keeping potential customers �hanging� like this a good policy. The estimated time of the delivery for my order was just switched from 2 days to 15 yesterday, once again�

wow! phone. i really liked the fully loaded iconia features but i doubt about its hardware. Right now i'm using acer product(4820TG laptop) its hardware is too much delicate, after every 15-20 days i've to visit the the service centre. So hope this phone is physically sturdy.

it says that the phone is available but yet to be seen in the market. i looked everywhere and couldn't find it. the only place i did find it was this website and then again it's only for pre-order with no guarantee that the phone will be released at the given date. for those who might be interested in pre-ordering this phone: Also i think this phone is way too expensive for what it's really worth. maybe that's just me but specs-wise it's not the best phone; really, it's not up to today's technology and at least for a phone this huge, the least we can expect is a battery that can last at least 10h i doubt that's gonna happen with a 1500mAh battery. I am just hoping that the delay of the release date is a tactic for Acer to better the device; which shouldn't be that hard with this huge phone. a good start would be to the ram and the processor AND of course the battery.

Ordered one back in April, the estimate for Acer to deliver the phone to supplier and them to me being 15 days. This changed to 45 days. One day prior to the supposed delivery the estimate changed again to 21 more days. Within two days the estimate had changed to 31 days remaining... It'l probably be next year I get the device, if ever... Please Acer, this is not the way to go, just like SE... Just how fool do you think the customers are? Reliability means a lot to many a customer. Go on like this, announcing a phone to be released at a certain time & then failing to deliver, you'll make it sure that you put potential customers to shy away from you in the future. Meanwhile companies like Samsung do exactly what they've said & promised. I wonder just how many new versions of the Galaxy I'll see before getting the Iconia smart - if that ever happens, that is...

Couldn't help but notice your reply was mal-informed. The 3GS has 512 mb RAM, plus it's iOS, there's no proper multi-tasking, what it does is referred to as tomb-stoning in WP7, it saves the app state and switches it off, keeping it in the ram, why do you think not all apps support the multitasking? It's because tomb-stoning requires an extra bit of code. It's not exactly like WP7 but the idea is the same. I'm no apple hater, I've the iPhone 4, but research before saying stuff like that.

RAM doesnt make any difference. Its the quality of OS and the technical logic with which you manufacture a phone. Look at apple iphone 3GS . It has only 128MB ram. I have it.. Even if you open 50 applications all at a time running, the phone will not even hang a little. I have tried this to test the apple .. It didnt hang . So its all about the OS (I OS for apple ) and other mechanism which makes the phone faster or slower. People with NO KNOWLEDGE will keep on yelling that so and so phone has less RAM. HEnce that phone is waste....

This has same performance as dual core. since dual core drains battery like hell, Acer carefully skilfuly replaced dual core with 1GHz Scorpion processor, Qualcomm MSM8255-1 Snapdragon..... Any one with eyes will tell that Iconia is best looking that the simply rectangular UGLY LOOKING galaxy SII made of plastic and its undurable.

well you have to consider that the x10 had 1.6 when it came out and there is only ONE version of the phone. Samsung has 4+ versions to keep track of. Yes I was a SE follower until they made the Arc. No front facing camera, and the Japanese version is stacked like no other....Google it Plus this post about Acer Iconia Smart man. This is my next device! Upgradeable to HC and a front camera. Beast phone.

Well it seems that the SE Xperia X10 will indeed have 2.3. Though that will not stop me from getting the AIS, this phone is too spec crazy and looks so sexy I dont mind that it isnt a dual-core because it would drain that battery like crazy.

LOL. what the hell are you talking about? Samsung was even worse on updating their galaxy s phones. It's been almost a year and still some of the galaxy s brands haven't been updated to 2.2(not to mention the number of phones(I9000) that were bricked during the process). We don't even expect samsung to release a 2.3 but it might come. I own a captivate myself so i know. On the other hand, SE had problems updating because of their mediascape and timescape app. Now they removed both (except changed timescape to more like a widget app). They learnt their lesson and the new SE phones are already coming with the latest android 2.3 software. Further updates have been promised to be in a timely manner too. I believe in sony ericsson and definately considering the most beautiful phone. Xperia ARC

Stay away from SE, especially the Arc. I have a x10 and it is good, but if you don't know how to root your phone you are stuck at 2.1. Epic fail for SE when Samsung is updating their 2010 galaxy line with 2.3. Also there is no front facing camera on the Arc. To me that is a must have feature. Especially when most 2011 high end Android phones have one. And don't let the Bravia tech fool you, they have been using that in phones for at least a decade. It has just now come over to the rest of the world. Look at LG, the Optimus black is something you may like. Plus is has one of the best screen tech on the scene. HTC has a good line up as well. But the Iconia smart is indeed an unique phone and totally destroys the Arc. Iconia smart = winning

I can't see any major put off by the manufacture UI if u like and interested in the phone. There are loads of apps out there u can use to replace it to your preferred one. This is a phone better than any other phone out there specs-wise, and am gonna be 1 of the 1st to put hands on it. Acer if not ANDROID rocks and sure will keep coming up!

Hi Amme, This is all I can say to help you to decide whether to go for ACER ICONIA SMART or IPHONE 4. If have good eye sight, slim fingers, small hand and do not require phone with flash, go for IPHONE. Likewise, if you have big hands, fat fingers and wants to watch videos in big screen go for this ACER. I am planning to own 1 myself. I fact I am going to buy Dell Streak 5 as a collection too. I love phones with big screen. Processor wise, all smartphones nowadays have good processors so there is nothing to worry phone lagging. If you are the kind who love to play games on the phone, make sure put on the headset or your handset will become warm. It happens to all phone, whether its slim or thick built, usually slimmer will warms up easily due to small surface area.

Obviously I havnt actually used this phone before but I have been playing around with a port of the acer UI on my liquid a1. The UI is quite intuitive but acer decided to make a couple of odd moves. For example the press and hold home (which opens up multitasking usually) is replaced with some home screen overlay. Overall this wouldnt hurt a average user (in fact it might even be more intuitive for the average user) but as a "experienced" android user this is quite a turn off because you loose a lot of functionality/flexibility android is famous for.

Acer is not that bad. The first laptop I bought was an Acer. It was the best deal for the money back then, and even though it seemed cheaply built and the lid assembly started to crack around the hinges after a couple of years, it was built like a tank actually. I got it in 2005 and it's still alive and kicking. I installed a lightweight Linux distro on it and my dad uses it right now without any problems. So, they might not be the greatest devices in the world, but most of the time they're a fantastic deal for the money and they're more robust than they seem. Also, when it comes to smartphones, the current Acer mobile phone division is the former Eten, which has been bought by Acer some time ago. Eten were head to head with HTC building the first touchscreen smartphones, years before anyone even heard of the iPhone.

Ye I totally agree, BUT that is how tech companies make their money. Look at Sony Ericsson for example, They have the potential to make the baddest phones on the market but chose to make the Arc with no front facing camera and the same amount of RAM as the X10 and little to improve the storage. If a company was to make a truly advanced, ahead of the curve technology, They would go bankrupt because it would be too expensive to make and there too much competition out there. (Sorry to use another Sony example, but Sony had one of the best MP3 player tech in the industry but then apple came along, fooling all those people to think that their iphone and ipod had true quality sound. How does a company compete with that? Sony ended up making less quality MP3 players because people no longer cared about it. And where do you see the Walkman brand today? Sony basically killed it off and integrated it into their cellphones. The Acer phone is on my top 3 for sure. A nice widescreen phone that has 2.2!(I'm a X10 user). USB 3.0 barely used for tech at the moment, a few more years for that to become standard. I would hope that with releasing this phone in April, that Acer will get enough sense to have a processor bigger than 1GHz. And RAM to match that of the LG, Samsung and Motorola phones. Hopefully a bigger battery too, does anyone know the battery size?????????? The Acer Iconia 5 would be a huge improvement over my SE Xperia X10. I am not so pleased that im stuck with 2.1. I will have to root it in the future I guess. Gotta love Android! :D

Well I watch an official preview from Acer of the upcoming phone and they say it�s a 5inch AMOLED display. As for the battery life� with the power efficiency Qualcomm Snapdragon processor and the AMOLED display it should do well. My feeling is with the new upcoming USB3, Bluetooth 4.0 standard and multi cure processor why they don�t just hold the phone back and get it right the first time around, why should we buy this phone and months later its useless ;-(

Acer are miles ahead of the field in computer engineering. Let's face it, phone's used to be fairly simple equipment lacking in power and performance. These days, these machines have become power hungry, gpu stressing all out and out media machines. Along with this comes the issues of extra heat, power consumption and so on which ultimately takes decades of experience to master and effectively create simple solutions for. Apple were a good example of the power these big companies have, and not to mention the man power and resources! However, Acer have chosen in this case the open-source user friendly and widely compatible OS from Google: Android. The two go together hand in hand offering the user the best possible experience, whilst at the same time offering the consumer options of customisation and user interaction one simply could not achieve through the closed iOS. All in all, I really think that Acer have hit the nail on the head with this one, my only gripe is that they promised release Nov 2010... and here I am still waiting. But like they say, you have to brew it longer for a finer taste!!! Can't wait. :P

I have acer tavelmate 290 for 6 years and i am still using it. Now all my friends have acers, no one have any problem. Acer is a hell of the brand and it returns all the money you give for it. I am sure that it is the same with their mobile phones.

Acer laptops being all of low build quality is is a myth really. Companies will always come out with a bad unit one time or the other, HP, Sony, etc. Happens to all of them. My old Acer 1692 WLMi is 5 years old now, and still works like day 1 hardware wise (except for the monitor, that has dimmed to 140cd/m^2 throughout the years). Recently bought a 3820TG Timeline X and its possibly the most well built laptop I've seen in a long time.

I have an acer laptop aspire 6930. Its the best laptop ive owned and ive owned hp sony and dell as well. Acer has been around for a while doing computers so ? Im not sure about their phone market though its too new for me to trust

Amit and Ani, lolz, like i said, i hv nth against Acer but got the comments from friends who sell laptops. they dont mean it's drop dead bad but when compared to other brands, they do hv higher return-warranty percentage. this is supposedly due to the cheaper hardware that they uses, at least that's what i know from Malaysia. and about the Acer brand name in phones, what i meant was that they are virtually an unknown in the phone segment. for instance, u know what u'll be getting with Samsung & HTC but an Acer? i do hope they make this good and i'll have no problem owning them when they are officially out (though i wonder will they have it in Malaysia, lolz!).... Desire HD is already available in many countries but it's only coming soon in 1 of our major carriers! ^_^

The aspect ratio is similar as the LG BL40 I think. The BL40 is too long, Acer aesthetically looks better. I will choose this Acer instead of the Dell Streak. Acer should make WP7 smart phones.

Don't have any experience with Acer as a brand, but I suspect that since they bought Eten some years ago, the phones are coming out of that division. I still have nightmares from my Eten experience including horrible if not non existent technical support and shoddy builds. Maybe things have changed.
