alarm sound is insufficient. WiFi connection doesn't work for granted. screen resolution/camera is inferior. outlook synchronizes nicely.

Take it to Asus care centre. If that is not possible, you can flash your ROM which will erase all data. If you can afford to lose data, do the following procedure: Go to the given link: Download the Windows 6.1 OS. Unzip it and install it on your PC. Connect your P527 to the PC and flash the ROM. Use expert mode since you cannont use the active sync mode. Detailed procedure is given in the pdf file given in the download. If you have backed up your data on the memory card, you can restore it using the back up programme.

Very simple. Select the file you want to send via bluetooth by moving the jogger dial (or navigation key). Press Menu. Select 'Beam File'option. P527 will search for all bluetooth devices within range and display the list. Tap the 'send'option in front of the device you want to send the file to. Accept receive on the device. Turn off bluetooth of P527 after sending. :-)

long press on the * key to enable disable Xt9. BTW if XT9 keyboard is visible on screen it will use buttons for numeric entry only. Hide the on screen keys by touching the keyboard button on control bar at the bottom screen.you can re enable the keys again by touching the round key button on control bar on screen.

There is no need to download any application for asus p527 to connect to the internet on pc. Just connect your phone to pc and go to "Internet Sharing" option in programs on your mobile. Press "Connect". If you are using a Laptop, you can connect it thru Bluetooth.

Hi Sameer & everybody, GPRS connection issue has been addressed many times in this column many times. P527 is an advanced device and the GPRS settings are quite simple. Here are generalised steps to set your GPRS for any network. 1. Call customer care and ask for just two things: a. Internet connection name b. Access Point Name (APN) 2. Go to Settings -> Connections -> Add a new modem connection (under My ISP) 3. In 'Enter a name for the connection'enter the connection name customer care guy gave you. 4. In 'Select a modem' select Cellular Line (GPRS) then click Next. 5. In 'Access point name'field, enter the APN customer care guy gave you then click Next. 6. Do not enter any User name or Password in the fields (the customer care has given you any username & password-enter the same) 7. Click 'Finish' That's it you are ready for browsing. For MMS settings, you have to follow the same procedure after getting the MMS connection name and APN from customer care. For updating GPS go to Asus Launcher -> GPS -> GPS Catcher and click on Update button. You can also set the GPS to update automatically by going to the Settings Menu on the same page. Procedure is same when you are Active Synced to your computer connected to computer. Regards

Dear RM Goswami, If you are satisfied with the coordinates and creating logs about your travels, you can use the built in program 'Travelog'in your P527. If you want maps for navigating, you have to contact Satguide (www.satguide.in) and explain your problem. Each device comes with its own ID and activation & licence keys. They may be able to help you. Or you can buy a new one from their website (you can download it to your PC, then install it on your P527) Regards

Hi SMD, If you have a GPRS connection, go to Asus Launcher -> GPS -> GPS Catcher, click on Update. The programme will update the GPS automatically. It will show the message that the GPS has been completely updated. Dont forget to disconnect from GPRS network after GPS update. Happy navigating... :)

Dear KKS, I have Asus P527 too, but connection is BSNL Prepaid. Try this: Go to start -> settings -> connections -> Network setting -> Tick the 'Select your operator...'. Then select BSNL from the drop down list (If you've upgraded to Windows 6.1. If you are still using Windows 6, then select BSNL Postpaid from the drop down list) -> OK Then go to connections -> manage -> click on 'Advanced' tab -> Select Networks -> select 'BSNL Internet' settings from drop down list -> edit -> edit. In the 'Enter a name for the connection' text field, leave "BSNL Internet" as it is. Click Next. In Access Point Name (APN), you'll see gprssouth.cellone.in. Delete this and enter bsnlnet then click Next. In Username, you'll see MSISDN; delete this and delete password also. Do not enter anything in these fields. Click on Finish. In the displayed screen, press and hold on BSNL Internet. You'll get two options, delete and connect. Click on connect. Phone will connect to internet and you'll see the icons in the top bar. First You have to Open the Backup wizard and then click on the Backup. And first backup your contacts and after restoring then open the restore wizard and open the file of contacts. Your contacts will be restored immediately.

go to settings- got to connections- click connections in connections setup a new connection, name MO in the name and then click cellular gprs and click next, in the next page type airtelgprs.com in small letters and click next exit settings come back to manage connections click manage connections, and cnfirm MO connection switch off the phone and switch on ur connected

for some reason i do not understand when other companies were having windows based fones with 600 and 800 Mhz processors, why did Asus decide to have 200Mhz processor... half the time my Gprs wudnt work and the movies would be seen frame by frame... bout a single frame per second... try running 3-4 applications at the same time.... wait till next yr for the fone to respond....

adding to my previous post.... just sharing my research. if you folks want this snail phone to go any faster, INSTALL Windows Mobile 6.5 on this. the phone`s performance increases drastically. I tried installing Android on this too, but it was not ported only emulated. Installing WM 6.5 is fairly easy - about 10 minutes. to further enhance the performance install OMAPCLOCKKEPEER. this pathetic phone is now able to withstand 1.5 days of charge, no call drops, no signal loss and fairly decent GPRS experience.

Hello Hirendra, like you I`ve had really bad experience with this stupid handset. total waste of money and a goodwill that will be a thing of the past. the touchscreen on my phone also got screwed up, and to top that it was hard to locate any support for this stupid phone. but I was lucky enough to get a touchsreen ( only the touchscreen not the display) from ebay about a 3 weeks ago for a mere 300/ Rs. & got it replaced from one of the local cell phone engineers. my advice to ALL .. DO NOT BUY ANYTHING FROM ASUS.

Hello Friends !!! I do have a very bad experience about ASUS P527. I had very high regards for ASUS products but I believe that was the past. Now there is no difference between ASUS and its competitors. They have discarded their philosophy of providing Quality products to its customers. Now they have a philosophy to sell once and then earn more out of the service and repairs. They will sell you a product whose performance will be similar to any other chinese mobile phone but will charge a huge premium. I went off to buy ASUS P527 keeping aside options from Nokia and Sony Ericson. Within the 1st year itself the Display screen went off. The touch screen was not responding. This happened very close to the warranty expiry date. I was Lucky and got a free replacement of the same. After this within 4 months of the replacement, the problem reoccured and this time there was no saviour. Warranty EXPIRED !!! Left with no option to go back tot he service center. And this time only just the Display screen will cost me approx 2500 Rs. + the service charge say another 300 to 500 Rs. I realised the biggest blunder done by me of buying a handset worth Rs. 16000/- which cannot even give you a satisfactory service during its warranty period and will turn upinto a white elephant immediately after its warranty expiry. The biggest blunder is that only just the touch screen cannot be replaced which could have relieved the cost substantially instead you need to replace both (touchscreen + display). Something really weird !!! I cannot expect this kind off foolishness from technology giant like ASUS !!! Really sorry to say that I am not at all happy with it. The oply option that seems to me is to spend few bucks more and go for either Sony Ericsson or Nokia for a trouble free performance. So after all this I decided not to buy anything just on the basis of the company's name and fame but we should evaluate products based on their reviews from our friends and experts. NO MORE GOING FOR ASUS !!! Hirendra

Oh, another qustion... recently I was trying to delete unnecessary files and I think I mistakenly deleted some file which was crucial for email viewing. tricks to tweak - install sktools and run optimise to ` perfomance ' setting , it will disable animations, iy will speed up up the device install - omapclockkep and keep the setting at 204 mhz ( it shows the it is 200mhz but actually it is 186 mhz in actual ) , keeping at 216 mhz is alo okay but will hang at some times install these and see the ur device run faster, welcome for any thank you in advance

This phone is crap. I often can't receive calls and in 1 year had 3 times to repair it! Processor is too weak (200 Mhz) and RAM is too small (64Mb) - it has problems running some important applications as Adobe Reader for WM. Don't suggest this to anyone. It's cheap, but Chinese SciPhone on eBay is better :D

you can use hc4 inbox, small software freely available on various websites. This will directly save all files received by bluetooth on FTP folder created on memory card. Hope this will help you.

Just got it since jan 2009. Got good features and programmes. Slight drawback. Not quite "user friendly" for phone-user only. Just 2 days giving problem. Not able to send and receive message. Pop up box stating problem with voice command. Need to restart voice command. did that but problem still persists. Nee help here.

why are all guys after bilal after his declaration , `i have made my phone superfast'. it is nothing fancy here. maybe he has just installed overclocked his phone with the relevant softwares. the popular softwares are ` ImmierSoft XCPUScalar, homescreen plus or Homescreen plus plus, tomap overclock, wizcode pocket hack master and many more, google them with the words `overclock texas instrument omap 850' - they are all over the internet. but remember do not overclock more than 240 mhz and it will fry your phone and the trade off would be more heat and less battery. upgrade your phone to the latest rom, it gets rid of the asus's very own today homescreen launcher which consumes lot of memory that would help too

Had this phone for over a year. I find the best app combo for this phone is SPB Shell 3.0 for its superior award winning user interface and TomTom Navigator 7 for it's top-of-the-line GPS. You may also want to get a keyboard application so you can get big enough keys and not need to use the stylus. I think I have successfully made my Asus better than the iPhone and the HTC touch pro...combined!

Hi balaji well you can get it in the cd supplied with the phone the sftware is called as ms active sync and i think the new version is 4.5 ,if the operating system you are using is vista then youdo nt need one as it gets sync option once you connect your phone to it.you can also download it from the net.

hi Parth cmon mate weve been discussing this for a lot of time on this forum about the operation of keypad dude if you wanna work for eg you d like to dial wit your keypad then disable the onscreen keypad.i think if there is no other problem except for some damage then it shud work this way.so enjoy and have fun.

sorry guys but i think once you disable the on screen keypad you can type in the message with the help of keypad i dont know w hoever said that might have never used a win mobile.cmon this is common sense no company would make a mobile phone espeacially a pockey pc keypad just for dialling.

Hi, Excellant PDA worth buying in 12k , what more u expect ( GPS, wi , windows mobile 6.1 , touch + keyboard both ) ya phone have some -ive but who doesnt hve , count the +ive yar .. life time gps excellant .. u can install any no. of s/f , SD memory can extend up to 8gb , Its a only PDA having FM with touch + keyboard offering in 12k , dont go on its -ive comments , as those peoples r not even knw how to use it , as they can only satisfy themself with the interface of nokia and dont wana try sumthing else.. This is the worst phone I have used!!! I purchased my phone 4 months ago, and have spent the last 3 months trying to get a solution to my issues, which ASUS customer care is unable to give me a proper reply to. Can anyone give me solutions to the following? 1. My phone loses network frequently. This is not a SIM issue since I dont have the same problem with my SIM card in another phone and while standing in the same place. 2. My phone hangs when idle. Those who try to call me in emergencies, just get a message that my phone is switched off. When I got in touch with the ASUS service centre, I was told to do a hard reset of my phone and then to install the latest firmware. But this has not helped. Can someone assist me please????

you can try 3 of the options - update the rom to the latest . check it by going start - device infomation- rom , the latest is 4.237 i guess 2) and download the skype again I think, sometimes things don't get downloaded properly but they show as if ,they did 3) uninstall some of the memory consuming programs or try again

Hi Guys, I got P527 a couple of days ago. I am not able to install Skype on it. I am using Activesync. It runs the installer on the phone pretty fine but fails in the end. Seems like memory is low for the device. I asks me to install to the storage card (The 1GB card provided with the phone). But when i choose that option it exits with a failure msg. Can anyone guide me on how to install skype/ other software on the phone? Would really appreciate it.

Hi i am using this phone for quite sometime now .i was really very depressed when i got this phone .i thought i had made a big mistake becoz this phone wax dead slow .But trust me friend my phone is probably the fastest phone i have evr used.The reason for that is i got it updated to wm6.1.and after that i added up a few softwares which made my phone super fast and that too without any hassels .Trsut me guys dont get dissapointed this is an awesome phone but for guys who think otherwise its their own respectfull opinion.Never mind i have worked for a reputed phone company so i know a bit about this.take care guys and enjoy your phone .Just wanted to shafre my experience with you all. The worst phone I have ever seen. Lots of problem with software bugs, very slow performance and calls. Many a time it automatically get switch off. I am repenting to give it as a gift to my husband. Everyday he faces lots of problems. Even the basic phone of mere 5000 of nokia is far better than this phone.

Its simple, just remove the on-screen keyboard (by tapping on the keyboard icon, not the arrow) and you should be all set to the use the keypad as any other phone :-)

i was using nokia 6230i for the past 3 years. yesterday i bought asus-p527. i am extremely disappointed by its worst performance. rs. 12000/- gone! =>speaker volume - extremely low - the worst part cannot enjoy multimedia, music, video, audio =>hangs often when hangs you cannot even switch it off i waited for the battery to drain, since the phone is new, i do not know to how to remove the battery =>poor camera - reddish brown tint too much time takes to switch between camera to video and back =>cannot paste favorite program shortcuts into today screen(home screen) =>due to multitasking feature of windows os, any accident clicks, makes unwanted calls in the background. so when you come back to phone, it makes a call on the other side!!!

I bought P527 in November 2008 and since then i'm facing various problems like frequent hanging,signal loss,unreachable to my friends,GPRS not functioning.All the problems get resolved if i restart my mobile. I've given my handset for repair twice in Delhi.They have changed the mother board but the problems still appearing intermittently.Any suggestion?

Hi, I did that, volume's still way too low when I compare with my 3 year old Sony Ericsson K750i. I tried changing the earphones to chinese made iPod style ones. That helped a lot! I had to use a small adapter to use the earphones, since they were 3.5mm and the phone supports 2.5mm. But as long as the adapter was a good quality, wire type with a gold colour point (50 rs from anupam, the one with the silver point is not good quality and gives problems) it works good though it is more jhanjhat to take care of one more piece of hardware. How do I get coreplayer though? I would love to have it. Thanks

try resetting your phone. There is a reset button just beside the camera button.on the right side of your phone. then try connecting via usb to the computer. This should work.

satguide should in the 1 gb card( free with the unit) that is supplied to you with the unit,or a cd . whatever is the case. if not ur dealer has cheated you . go to him again and demand that if u have boughtit new not used. looks are ok overall but the unit big compared to today's standards but gps fm, and keypad on windows were the attraction not the looks per se

you have no idea what are talking about, mobile rom/or operating systems are not generic like desktop operating sytems windows or linux like that u run on any device. they are device specific, adjustments are made to that specific device adding the drivers of those very parts used in that handset to save the space and increase efficiency of that device on top of generic operating system supplied to them by microsoft.that rom is released by manuifacturers then . it is nota patch or something like that but full operating system. and microsoft has said that 6.5 rom would be available for upcoming devices not old devices and minimum and over 400 mhz frequency processor .it runs best over 400 mhz. although there are illegitimate rom roaming around for differen handsets on different sites but most of them created by people who own HTC sets as majority of Windows user use sets made by HTC as there was no one else earlier.So there is huge community around htc handsets . once again - there is no rom (os)available legitimate or cooked ( modified by some enterprising people for that device itself) announced or floating around for asus p527 as yet

I am using this phone for last 2 months prior to that I had used HTC and I found that Asus is better in terms of features and connectivity but HTC is far better in terms of its user interface , Touch Technology and easy to use. Sound Quality of HTC is better than Asus.Sound quality of Asus is far below than my expectation.

Having the same issue, driving myself crazy. Asus offers no driver downloads for this product as an added frustration. It says to download Acrobat Flash 8 or later, 10 is the current standard - it is not working I'm getting the same message. I'm going to see if I can find a version of flash player 8 - if it works I'll come back and let you know.

Hi Can anyone help me to optimize the volume of music playback on this phone? I've found it to be inadequate even at full volume, while travelling especially; And I can only listen to heavy metal and hard rock. Can't listen to any classical or jazz, it's completely inaudible. The earphones don't help, since they're also not noiseproof and don't fit very comfortably. I really like this phone in most ways but I wish I could solve this problem, it's my main gripe with the phone. If I change to good earphones I have to use the adapter which goes in the 2.5mm socket, and that is annoying. It's ironic because the quality of sound is good, but no use if I can't hear it... need more quantity! If anyone knows some kind of plugin or application that helps the volume or any earphone setup that fits this phone and gives great results, then please help!

The names which comes to mind which can overclock this phone's processor ( texas Instrument omap 850 201 mhz) immediately are - omapclock (freeware), batterystaus(now homescreenn plus plus), xpuscalar 3.03, pocket hack master you have have search for it u might find a cracked vesrion of that.

minor as in terms of changes but it is a full rom upgrade. and asus also doesn't recommend transcend and one more brand of sd card brand due to some uncompatibility issues go the website and find out for yourself. and card which are not recommended are mentioned in the that download zip file

there is new rom upgrade posted on asus website version 4.2.37 which especially mentions that this rom upgrade sorts out the `sd card wiped out' problem which many users faced.there was a bug in earlier roms which resulted in this problem. what rom version do u have on the phone.to check that u have to go to > settings > system information .

Im using this phone for almost 20 days now and am very happy with it. Now im facing a small prob wherein i installed satnav,given to me,in the internal memory but thn it took up too much space, so uninstalled it properly and again reinstalled it to the memory card. After ths my entire storage card went blank, but it is stil showing that there are files but i cant see them in the card.(I didnt back up my card n now regrettin it) Also my card reader is not detectable on my laptop so tht i can use a data recovery software on it. ya it will get synced else u can download an outlook tool from the microsoft site for it, actually all these updates are there in the cd which unfortunatly doesn work, so go register on the site and get all u need..

hey hope u got it from alfa..!!, anyway the lappy has vista rite???.. u cant install that cd on it, it jus doesn work what ever u do.., struggled with it for a month, anyway go to microsft site or any torrents get drvupdate-86 from windows mobility centre and install, this is what is there in the cd also.., u can install the 2nd cd after u install this update.. its abt 44 mb

After reading several reviews, I was skeptical at first to buy the P527. Regardless, I managed to get a great deal at MYR 750 (approx. USD 206) so I bought it anyway. The Asus P527 is a feature packed phone with an adequate processor at a good price. It's not too sloggish for my taste. I'm very very satisfied with its performance, feature, and stability. Why some people find it slow MIGHT be because of this: *I'm not sure how many people might have experienced the following: 1. The Asus P527 has a TI OMAP850 (200MHz) CPU. 2. When I installed a software to check on the CPU, the factory setting was set to 176MHz. 3. So I clocked it back to 208Mhz and now it runs faster than before. Be reminded that the OMAP850 is sorta like a dual-core processor. Frequency isn't everything.

Bad Service - Still after 6 months of askign for correction, nothing has been done. Very poor service network. They changed the motherboard, upgraded the os.. and yet nothing... more than 10 visits to the service center and no results at all. Now they have agreed for a replacement .. but even that does not seem in sight. Its been quite some time now that my p527 is now with ASUS royal service center. WAITING ...

This phone is amazing. If you have a problem with the user interface, it's because you don't know WinMo. The only thing good about Windows Mobile is the wide variety of applications (for free). With the right application(s), you can transform your phone's user interface to something incredible. I'm convinced that my P527's user interface has the iPhone beat thanks to all these amazing free applications.

Hitesh, All i can say is that its my opinion that you avoid this phone. I feel for a touch screen, the screen size should be large enough to use fingers. In this case it becomes rather difficult . Then you have to use the stylus which occupies your other hand.It takes ages to charge but drains out quite quickly. It hangs very frequently.GPS seldom function cos it will keep asking you to close applications for extra memory to run GPS. But the package seems to be nice will all the accesories like car charger , windscreen stand etc. I bought Nokia E71 which is absolute breeze.It is still hard to fathom how this ASUS P527 has such high ratings.

it ain't look that bad going by the total feedback, i have been on windows phone since o2 xda mini days,every windows device has it's niggles.one who is into third party softwares and tweaks for eg. from xda developers. most of the things get sorted.and all the negative reports come from those who are switching from simple ' nokia devices' for the first time.I think it is VFM .where would you get gps,t9 keypad +touchscreen, fm,windows,for around 10-11k ($200-225).What is the main problem . care to share ! because I'm almost set to buy it .it is little bigger (other choice asus p320) but got more battery ,fm and more accessories with it than p320

oh 11900 is awesome man..., did u get the maps for free too??. where??, anyway the satguide will work only when u stand under clear skies or atleast in open... the travel log is very easy to use, just click on it go to menu turn on gps and select new route., it has a start pause button too, when u travel just start it and u can see the arrow blipping its way on the screen .. it autosaves the route too...

Hey guys, As mentioned in the earlier post, the solution to this is to have the Adobe Flash player version 8 in your system. Even if you have Adobe Flash player version 10, this wouldn't work. It does support 8GB SDHC, and it isn't slow, but it doesn't show the correct size. Even though you can fit 8GB on it and have access to all the data, the phone says that it only has 2.7GB of space on it for some reason.

You have flash the OS, follow the instructions given and font forget to take a back of you personal data. I am using a 4 GB card which doesnt slow down the phone.

Hmmm i think it's a personal choice between Windows 6.0/6.1 and you have too many good replies from few of the people in this forum. Personally I have version 6.1 on my phone and it works fine for me. I think you can go to www.in.asus.com and download the software/patch/update to upgrade your mobile's version to 6.1. Its a simple work.

To conference - First make a call and then put it on hold and call the second person. Once connected, use soft menu button where you will get option of conference! To record - simply press Microphone button available on keypad and then there you will get option to record.

Now I checked here in chennai and Delhi it is around 14k b'cos of dollar appreciation. Even after paying around 15k i had been delivered a set manufactured in June2008 with win mob. 6.0 which is better Win Mob 6 or 6.1 b'cos asus people are telling me that they will give a replacement with new release. thanks Sanjay

Hi Sanjay, I think the price that you have been quoted is way too high. In Bangalore I can get the same handset at around 13k and also a bit less, if extensive search is done. Probably if you purchase it at around 15K, you would loose the VFM advantage that this handset offers!. I have been using this phone for about 4 months now and find that it's a bit slow, owing to the fact that it has just 64MB RAM, but if your budget is at around 15K, you can afford other sets with high RAM. Otherwise this phone is a value for money.

Even i faced the same problem!. Its a poor work from ASUS, which says you can use flash player 8 or above and it doesnt work if we have any version other than Flash Player 8. So install version 8 of Flash player and probably you can start the installation of the same in the system.

Hi Abhisekh I also tried that but couldn't get any solutions. Even if you select memory card for storing recorded data it first stores in phone memory and then transfers automatically into memory card. But if you have nearly 26 to 27 MB in your phone memory then you can record for more than an hour continuously. But 26 to 27 MB memory is available only if you have not installed too many third party softwares and the ring tone that you have selected for your phone is less than 2 MB. Make sure that you don't click those ringtone which you are not using as that will unnecessary consume the free space of the phone.

Don't get me wrong, the phone doesn't have any problems itself. It's windows mobile that I can't stand. I had this phone for 6 months but I was forced to return it because Windows Mobile is such a piece of junk. The Wi-Fi rarely works, VERY RARELY, It often freezes when trying to connect to various networks. This is most likely Windows Mobile's fault. I also don't like the fact that they put a camera on it because the camera is absolute JUNK. We shouldn't have to pay for it. I recommend you look for a phone with a better operating system (or wait until one comes out). Windows Mobile 6 and 6.1 are the Vista of mobile phones. JUNK.

What rubbish rkg first learn to use the phone before just passing a comment. To wake it from sleep simply press the cancel button and it will wake up. You don't need to reset it. Secondly there is no such problem with signal reception. Exceptional cases happens with exceptional persons. Thirdly the battery back up of this phone is too good. Perhaps one of the best available in the market. The phone is indeed a bit slow but not too slow either. You don't need to open 4 - 5 programs in a mobile and work on it simultaneously. But it works perfectly fine if you listen to MP3 and work on excel or on internet.

I bought this phone in oct 2008. Since then except for the GSM radio everything else seems to be working fine. In other words, its phone (call in/out) function will stop working on its own and you will only receive missed call alerts after some time. Also, you will require to reset the phone to wake it up from sleep. The absence of this one feature (phone function) makes it absolutely useless. I suggest all of you guys to first discuss whether this handset can be used as a basic phone or not. Then rest of the accessories would hold meaning.

This phone is a complete waste of money and battery. I bought this phone about 8 months ago and was disgusted at first sight. It's HUGE. It makes the old school "Saved by the Bell" phones look like Barbie doll phones. If the people at Windows Mobile are reading this, I just want to let you know that you failed at life. The only thing the GPS is good for is telling you whether you're on Earth or not. You can turn it on, go take a shower, go to work, come home, eat dinner, and go watch a movie.. all before the damn thing loads.

Shiva, Not sure what do you mean by the Outlook setting for the phone. This device has a single Messaging utility which supports Exchange servers, POP3 servers, as well as MMS/SMS services. The manual describes their configuraion pretty well.

Hi, regarding voice there must be some problem with your connection. I have been using this phone since February and I too faced the same problem when using my idea sim with this. But, Touchwood, once I switched my Airtel sim or my Vodafone sime I didn't face any such problem..

When I play music on speakerphone, it the surrounding is quite then only I am able to hear the sound properly, in a little bit noisy condition speakerphone sound can not be heard properly. Hey man I used to hv the same problem in typing letters using the hardware keys. I m sure u r making the same mistake. While using the mobile buttons make sure that ur on screen keyboard is not opened. It should be minimized. If it is open then u can type only number from your hardware keys. But if it keyp minimized then you can type letters and numbers using ur mobile keys..... So chill there is no problem with this phone. This is one of the best phone I hv ever used. I would put it even before my N82

I seem to have trouble with xt9 with the on-screen keyboard showing. Is this normal. I sent this to Asus Support also. I've tried wm6.0 and wm6.1 from hard resets. 1. When I have any input method selected (keyboard, block recognizer, xt9 etc) and the on-screen keyboard for that input is showing, the hardware keyboard will only produce numbers, it seems xt9 is not in effect. 2. If I navigate to a text input location like a calendar entry the default sip keyboard automatically pops up. I have to tap the bottom of the screen to minimize the on-screen keyboard to be able to use the keypad to enter predictive text (abc, 123, xt9). Shouldn't I be able to enter all text types, not just numbers with the on-screen keyboard showing? 3. This also causes a problem trying to use predictive text, or word suggestions with other default sip's selected. For example if the keyboard is selected and is showing on the screen to enter text, I cannot change the "xt9" type (abc, 123, xt9 shown at top of screen) without first minimizing the on-screen keyboard, tapping the * key to change the xt9 input type and then opening the on-screen keyboard again. 4. One handy feature with the xt9 sip selected and minimized is that I can tap and hold the * key and a menu appears to allow me to quickly select abc, 123, xt9, languages, settings. This doesn't work however if the xt9 on-screen keyboard is showing. Pressing * only changes the current mode to capitals...eg abc → ABC at the top of the screen. I should be able to cycle through all the available xt9 input options by pressing *, and have the additional menu show by pressing and holding *, but I can't. 5. When I press and hold * with any other sip selected (on-screen keyboard minimized) it changes the sip to xt9 and opens the xt9 on-screen keyboard; I doesn't change produce the xt9 mode selection menu like it does if the xt9 sip is selected as default. Why does it do this? It should show that additional menu instead of switching the sip. Also if the on-screen keyboard is showing in any other sip the * key doesn't do anything. It seems as though there is a problem with xt9 while any on-screen keyboard is showing. This is how I think it should work, and I hope it can be fixed. 1. I should be able to change the xt9 input mode in any sip (abc, 123, xt9 etc...) by pressing the * key with or without the on-screen keyboard showing. 2. I should be able to access the additional xt9 menu by pressing and holding * in any sip, with or without the onscreen keyboard. 3. I should be able to use the hardware keypad to type predictive xt9 text with any sip selected with or without the on-screen keyboard showing 4. Finally the xt9 mode seems to automatically switch from abc to xt9 mode depending on the program. Is there a way to control this automatic behaviour? It would be nice to always have it stay on xt9. Right now it is very in-efficient to enter information in the p527 in one-handed mode because of having to constantly minimize the on-screen keyboard to change the xt9 mode to abc, 123, xt9 etc. Also even if it is minimized, I have to press * 6 times to go from abc to xt9 mode, pressing and holding * to directly select the option only works if the xt9 sip is selected and the on-screen keyboard is minimized. Can anyone help?

FYI. One of the alternate to streaming player on wm6.1 is Kinoma player Fewdays ago, I had downgraded to wm6.0 as streaming player was not working on wm6.1 on Asusp527. I had switch back to wm6.1 as the performance was not so good on 6.0 compared to 6.1. Also with couple of applications I ran into no memory errors. Kinoma player has good features including utube access.

I agree with you Anirudh. I did not know this. I see the combination of XT9 & ABC is simillar to traditional symbian phones. Once the input method is selected as XT9 model pressing & holding star buttron (* a/A) for few seconds, allows to select sub categories like (XT9 English/123/ABC/Symbols) options

Hi Vaibhav, You should have recieved a letter with the SatNav software regarding your software key, if you do not have that letter, chances are you have counterfeit software

GPS Catcher updates the Satellite data which stays current for only about 3 days. You need to have an active connection (WiFi or GRPS) to download the latest data.

Hi Anirudh, Here are your answers: 1. In WM6.1, you can only see SMS's in threaded mode. Some people see that as a plus, although it is pretty irritating for me! 2. This should not happen under normal usage. Try switching the target back to the main memory to see if that still happens. 3. Sure - just go to Start -> Settings -> Personal tab -> Lock to set it up. 4. Again not sure why that is happening. When this happens, go to the My Documents folder to see if the partial file is actually there, before you accept the prompt. I think the file transfer should only start after that.

Hi Sandip, That doesn't sound right! The SatGuide software is supposed to be bundled along with the P527 phone. It looks like your vendor did not give you the original software (which comes on its own MicroSD card), and that the ASUS CSR you spoke to was not aware of this. Go back to your dealer, or try calling back ASUS again.

hi..anirudh.. the satguide software has been updated for OS6.1 , the satguide team told me.. and the gave me link to download the new 6.1 compatible software.. but i had roll back to OS 6 so didnt use the link.. u can mail satguide team to gv u link .. download the software n install it.... use the old licence n key ... it wll work... & if u dont hav satguide key.. just insist ur dealer to give it..

They told me that after spending 15000/- Rs., I have purchased phone only, not Phone with GPS software bundled. Now I have to purchase GPS software separately. I have checked on net and found two softwares, 1. SatGuide's - One India Map (Rs. 2183/-) 2. Map My India - iNav Loaded (Rs. 3490/-) Please suggest me which one is best in terms of functionality.

HI Friends, I own the Asus P527 PDA. Bought this 1 recently..It already has WM 6.1 I have the following queries, can someone plz shed some light on the issues :: 1. How can i view SMS in normal mode. It is viewed as conversation like in E-mails. 2. The pictures i click get saved in MMC, but after 2-3 days i find the pictures and also the folders dissappeared... This has happenned twice. 3. Can the keypad be locked using a code like in Nokia handset's ? 4. When i recieve a file using the bluetooth, it directly starts tranferring to the phone and asks me later if i want to save it or not ? which is very risky i think. Is there a solution to this, where like in normal Nokia handsets it'd ask me 1st n then recieve files. ?? Hi All, I will tell you what! I had upgraded to Win 6.1, but thought otherwise and resorted back to Win 6 and I had my share of woes during this process which one can read a few opinions below. Now now now, I am of the opinion that Win 6.1 is better than version 6 and of course I don't use streaming videos and hence I won't comment o this issue. I have been using this Phone for now over 9 - 10 months and I am really happy with this one. The phone has almost all features and the performance is also good. I don't find my Nokia N82, and N95 so attractive as this one. I have used SE Walkman phones also but I don't like it overall expect the music features. Anyways for problems regarding this phone about upgrading it to 6.1 email Asus from VIP membership from www.asus.in. Before you become a VIP member you need to register your phone. Send them a technical email and it will be solved within 24 hrs. The after sales services of Asus can be compared with DELL. They are really good at least way better than stupid NOKIA. I have to wait 2 months before I got back my Nokia phone after submitting in Nokia Care.

Zubair, Here are your answers: 1. Wi-Fi and GPRS are 2 independent ways of obtaining a network connection. To use Wi-Fi, you need to enable it from within the Wireless Manager, and then connect to an access point. To enable GPRS, you need to contact your service provider since it involves a monthly fee. 2. The P527 comes with a GPS navigation software - once you install it, it becomes self-explainatory. You don't need any additional inputs, since this phone includes an in-built GPS receiver. 3. By default, the apps on the device are not shut down when you try to close them. They continue to use CPU as well as memory as a result of this behavior. Install an App Manager like pBar or Magic Button to correct this problem. 4. Search through the older threads for the type of downloads you need. Many people have suggested some good options in their messages.

This is a classic example of shooting my own foot;-) As and when my downgrade was successful from Windows 6.1 to Win 6, my airtel service was available, then as part of the next step, I did a normal restore activity... I regret this action of mine!! Coz after i did a restore my phone is not able to recognize the network as airtel. I tried the same SIM in my Nokia mobile and airtel network is working fine... Can anybody tell me where I went wrong or what I should be doing now;-) Hmmm jst be double careful before you do what I just tried to do.. Tommy did yu encounter this problem???

More or less, same bad experience of having updated to 6.1 in many a ways -ve... Today I had a kind of experience, all of a sudden my speed dials were gone and the names of contacts that were there in my SIM were not being displayed. Had to reset it, but still the numbers are displayed other than their stored names!! Also the battery is getting eaten up faster from the day 6.1 is upgraded!!! What's the solution pals?

Hi Niks, I too faced a similar issue, it seems after it was doing that I started getting SIM card registration failed error message, I took my cell to Vodaphone, my provider and they gave me a new SIM and after that it did not happen again, try getting a newer SIM card, seems you are using the old one

Whenever I switch off my phone and turn it on, my memory card is wiped clean. I lose all the apps and pics.This has happened thrice now with switching off and once when a reset it.But surprisingly once the apps and contents of the card got back after 2-3 days.Can anyone tell me if they are experiencing the same problems? My mobile becomes 'not reacheable' for my callers. Its irritating. I need to restart the phone and then it will work. Then when I see the 'missed call alert' SMS, I would have got 10 calls :( 2. SMS messages are stored as conversations; so opening a message takes time (it had to load the previous messages too). God, this is another irritating thing. 3.The streaming player is gone. When we open YouTube videos, the player crashes! Brilliant. I was more than happy with 6.0. Can someone please let me know how to downgrade from WM 6.1 to WM 6?

Hi Prashant, can you do me a favor ? it seems you must be also using the Indian 6.1 firmware, can you go to youtube.com from your phone and try to play any youtube video, you will notice that the player will try to play the video and instantly crash Also details regarding your connection will also help, I tried it on Vodafone Mobile Connect which is EDGE connectivity and not the normal WAP connection Thanks P.S. But still, 1)Network reception and clarity - N/w reception is good, hence preferred this over P320 n clarity is not a pblm.. 2)user friendliness - Depends on how you can take it, I mean, to me its very much user-friendly 3)Battery performance - Excellent one. lasts till 3rd day, provided you charge it for 2-3hrs.. even with Wi-fi, GPS, calls, FM n other apps running, it lasts really long.. 4)Overall performance and satisfaction - I think 717 have voted for it, you can read the whole reviews here... 8.7/10 @ GSMArena;-)

Karthick, I haven't seen this feature in the P527. But you can type a few letters of the contact's name (even a single letter will do) and then click on Menu -> Check Names. This will do something similar to what you have seen before - you will see a list of names matchng that pattern, and will be able to select one of these. You can also type in multiple patterns separated by a semicolon, and you will be presented by their corrosponding matches in succession. You also have the option of switching to your Company Directory if you wish to search in there. As for sending a Group SMS, you can send an SMS to multiple numbers by entering them on the To line separated by semicolons.

In my previous mobile O2 Neo,in the 'To' field, when I type a character, all the contact names which have that character will be displayed in a drop down. I just select the name which i need. But in P527, the name drop down isn't there. Could someone please tell me whether this feature is not available in P527 or we need to enable it or something?

xyz, After you upgrade your device to WM6.1, the preinstalled apps will all still be there, but the upgrade will wipe out anything else that you have installed in the phone's memory. You will also loose any links for the apps which you have installed on the SD card, but this can be solved by simply reinstalling them.

It was not a tough decision to make. As a 1st time WinMo user, 2 weeks back on a monday evening, I had considered HTC Touch, as my friend had HTC S710 and I had no other choice, but to go for HTC Touch, which in Bangalore, was available for 13.1K. This was the end of my shopping. On Saturday, i went 2 the showroom to find out that Touch was now 16K!!!, as the $ rate went up(as explained by the showroom guys!!) Now started the real fun;-). I came across a brand called ASUS!!!!!!!... The 1st handset I was shown was named P320, which "is a replica of Touch" opined the showroom female, "but with a good processor speed". Ok logged into this site to find out that in P320 section ppl have compared it with P527. Now it was getting tougher, due to the www.offersforshopper.com offer, where P320 was available @ 10.4K and P527 @ 13.2K. So went thru the P320 reviews thoroughly once again;-) and Asus P320 it was... Wondering why I have put it in P527 reviews!!! Well just read the recent opinions at GsmArena.com and found out 2 critical factors. 1.Battery life of P320(read todays review, am justified..) 2.Signal reception!!!! I remember my horrible exp of using a Samsung set which had a poor antenna reception and thus no dual mind about it, as I keep travelling a lot on Biz visits. Just at the extra cost of Rs.1800, i bought a P527 and also got a watch free:))) @ www.offersforshopper.com store.Soon they are gonna open up @ Delhi as well.. Will cut short the story: 1.Excellent battery life(2.5 days n still 45% left!!!). Charged it close to 3hrs. 2.The lock button(having been used to long * press & Yes with Samsung and Messages + *, Nokia way) 3.Upgrade to Windows Mobile 6.1 from Asus site!!! 4.Have been trying to activate Airtel GPRS, but these guys activated Airtel Wap n Airtel Live, which doesnt work with this handset, rather only GPRS/Mobile office works with this, but otherwise Wi-fi is always there. 5.Still haven't come to terms with GPS/SatGuide, but excellent support by SatGuide team. 6.Sluggish is the keyword associated with this processor, but as pointed out earlier by ppl here, I wander how people worked with 5-6 applications at a time!!! In a mobile... 7.Goto Skype site and you shall find Skype for PDA, versioned 2.2 and trust me, it worked like a charm and so does Fring, XPocketPdf, etc.. Many more good features... On the flip side: 1.Stylus should be used, but the jog dial and the keypad is a best alternative. 2.Size of the Asus menu could have been more, but still am not dead!! 3.You click X and check your Task Manager!!. Found out some good tools in the P520 opinions posted by ppl like Prashanth, Prabhakar, Anonymous(who is this Anonymous??, he is found writing reviews everywhere and for every other brand!!) The feeling of a WinMo has not sunk into me yet. Otherwise, I feel, this phone is worth its cost and the attains the objective its needed to attain. But one thing, I noticed after the upgrade was that the volume had increased in 6.1 version for the same parameters, when compared to Version 6!! Hmmm..

I guess, you got me wrong. You can selectively check/uncheck todays programs as mentioned by Prashanth (settings>today>items) However with this method, once the wallpaper transperency level is set closer to zero(0%), start menu & even the items on today will not be visible that well (some theams may work well though. Hence the work around method I mentioned earlier works better to me. you may try either and choose the one that suites for you.

hey java games do work in this phone check for games of resolution 240x320 one can find them in www.mobiles24.com but 1st, one will have to log in then downnload the setup, transfer it to the cell phone, run the setup, go to "play" in the asus launcher select java and one'll see the game happy playing !!!!!!!!!!!!!

As a work around you may use a program like S2U2 - slide to unlock(http://freewareppc.com/utilities/s2u2.sht­ml) Copy the picture to S2U2 images directory and set the wallpaper throu programs>s2u2>s2u2 settings>wallpaper What you will achive is the picture you want will be displayed on the background when phone is locked & you have Iphone like unlock feature. Achint, As the name suggests, a wallpaper or a background is supposed to stay in the background! If you'd like to see only a picture on the home screen, you can disable all the apps by going to Start -> Settings -> Personal tab -> Today -> Items tab and unchecking all the items in the list. Of course, to see them again you do the reverse, which is a pretty tedious process.

Hey Prabhakar, thanks dear.. My Nokia 6670 had more than 1000 multiple contacts. I giess P527 should be able to store more than that. Nokia E51 has in device search. There is problem with the previous method, it does not show any option of setting the transperancy level. Other way is: Programs>Pictures & Videos>Browse & select the picture you want to use>Click Menu>Select Set as todays background>choose the transperancy level>click ok

To send file via bluetooth, first associate other bluetooth device with this (you may refer to user guide page 63) by enabling bluetooth(setting>connections>Bluetooth>mode) select turn on bluetooh and make this device visible to others. Choose a shared passcode for security. Once both devices are visible to each other 2. Open file explorer (programs>file exploerer), browse to the file folder you wish to send. 3. select the file you wish to send, click on menu, select beam file 4.Select the associated other bluetooth device where you want send the file. 5. On other device, you will see a pop up of file transfer (it may prompt to say yes/no)

Sandeep, when I purchased this model last month the sealed box had a 1GB memory card that has satguide autorun program. Box also came with Satguide license. May be the seller where you have purchased the mobile or ASUS may help. Note: Satguide application is not from ASUS.

There may be a program(free/paid) that can be installed. 2.Max no of contacts - do not think if there is any limitation Unless you store the contacts in SIM memory. 3.I do not have any issues with the keypad & happy with it. Except, not able to use the alphabets while sending email. Using the soft keyboard. 4.Does not have native notepad It has office mobile (excel, word, one note, power point) also has notes program.

For softwares use any software compatible for windows 6.0 and it will work fine with P527.

Chintan, Hardly any software publisher makes softwares for a specific phone model (well, maybe with the exception of the iPhone). So, pretty much any software compatible with any Windows Mobile phone should work with your phone too. And if it doesn't, you could always uninstall it!

If a hard reset didn't solve your problems, then it is probably not a software issue - looks like something is wrong with your hardware. Since the phone is just a month old, it is still under warranty, and you should be able to either get it replaced or at least fixed. Contact the ASUS Customer Care folks to proceed with the process.

Roberto, Technically speaking, no commercial GPS receiver is completely accurate - there is always a margin of error of a few feet involved in most cases, and it is your software which usually accounts for this. As an example, if the GPS reading shows that your car is driving through a park, then the software corrects it by showing your position as being on the closest road! That being said, the GPS receiver on this device if pretty accurate, and the A-GPS feature only adds to the accuracy.

Prashant, Thanks for the suggestion. WinRAR was able to open the ".bac" backup file. I found my SMS hidden inside an old backup file. The SMS are inside a file called "cemail_backup.vol". I infer from this that the SMS can only be stored along with the emails, and not separately. Anyone who has upgraded to the India version of WM6.1, did you experience any problem with the "Streaming Player"? I can no longer play videos from youtube after the upgrade. My can of upgrade woes continues.. :(

Windows mobile 6.1 looks to be better to 6.0 on P527. Did not take any backup as there was no important data. Upgrade was smooth by following the steps mentioned in the upgrade guide.

I agree with Prashanth somewhat. I thinkg if the WLAN authentication is using certificates, if the WLAN client does not have a valied certificate users will not get a valied IP address. To check if you are really getting connected to WLAN and getting a valied IP from you WLAN subnet, try using the following. 1. Download and install task manager(TM) v 3.1 on your PDA from 2. Start the task manager from programs>systems>Task manager 3. Once TM starts>Select process -> Ipconfig 4. If you are successfully connected to WLAN There should be valied IP details from your WALN subnet for adapter TIWLANAPIL Ipaddress, Mask and default gateway 5. If you got a valied IP, to check the connectivity >Select process >PING 6.Enter any host/domain name (You may enter gateway IP to check local connectivity to your router) If reply is coming your local connectivity is fine. 7. If you have internet routable IP or if your router is doing NAT to check internet connectivity. Check the DNS lookup and enter host - mail.yahoo.com if the reply is coming from mail.yahoo.com ->confirms your wirless connectivity to internet is fine. hope this helps.

Chintan, When you say that your office's WiFi doesn't use a proxy server, does that mean anybody can connect to the office network, or do you need to have some certificates installed on your laptops to be able to connect to it? This is the case in my office, and they don't provide any certificates for WinMo phones. If that is the case for you, then you may be out of luck too! You will be able to connect to the server, but you won't be able to do anything with the connection. My office however, does provide an alternate network for public use, which you can use after signing up for the service for free. Check with your office to see if they provide a similar service - if not, then GPRS/EDGE may be your only option.

SK, Glad to hear that your problem is solved now. The ASUS Backup program creates .bac files, which are basically simple Zip files - so, you can open them with WinZip or another similar software to view its contents. As for backing up the SMS's, you could have just used the "Copy to SIM" option before the hard reset, and used the reverse after performing the operation.

My problem got rectified after I did a hard reset. I didnot backup any of my emails this time; I selected only PIM data & My Documents. So I can access my text messages now, but lost the old ones in the process. I have one question though: Does the Backup program also backup text messages under the "Email" option? How do people normally backup their SMSs before attempting a hard reset?

Has anyone upgraded to the latest WM6.1 ROM? I upgraded my P527 yesterday, and got into a problem with the Text Message settings. Before the upgrade, I took a backup of all the data using "Asus Backup" utility. After the upgrade, I used the same utility to restore the data. All went fine, till I noticed that I can no longer access my Text Messages. Clicking on the "Text Messages" takes me to MMS folder. On the dropdown filesystem menu, I see that the "Text Messages" folder is empty and doesn't have any subfolders. Before the upgrade, I had a GMail IMAP account configured, and now on the "Today" screen, I can see unread mail from this account. However, I cannot see any GMail account settings in the Messaging window. Does anyone know what's going wrong? I'm assuming that this might be a problem with the Asus Backup utility in not restoring the GMail settings properly, and hence corrupting the Text Msg settings. Now I can see text messages only when someone sends me an SMS. Once I read it and close the window, it's no longer accessible. But I know it's in the phone since I can see it the next time I get an SMS. Can someone please help?

Hi Pradeep, Google Maps can be used with GPS, but the software requires an active connection to download the maps on the fly. It caches only a few maps at a time, and will then attempt to find a GPRS connection as soon as you venture outside the previous territory. As for the US, Google Maps would obviously be one option, but it will need an active connection, most data plans in the US are pretty high! Since you should already have Destinator installed on your device, you can easily find compatible US maps on the web.

I've read somewhere that it's a little hard to implement a double-click on WinMo devices - people need to program multiple single-click events with timers in-between them! Maybe Microsoft implemented it this way because it is not usual for people to use double-clicks using a stylus, where click-and-hold also works as a context menu launcher. In some apps, however, it is possible to select an items or multiple items with the first click, and then launch them using a second click - but then, why would you select an item if you don't intend to use/launch it in some way, and if that is what you intend to do, why wouldn't you want to do it with just a single click?

By default, if I tap anything using stylus, it gets selected and activated. That is, for example if I tap on any notes, instead of getting just selected, it opens with single tap. I want to select with first tap, and then run that stuff with second tap using stylus. It just just like single click to select and double click to open in windows XP OS. How can I do this? ASUS has been promising the WM6.1 ROM's for the P527 and the P750 for a while now. The P750 ROM's for many regions were released about a couple weeks back. So, it is nice to see them start on delivering the P527 ones too! My guess that the ROM's for other regions, including India, should be following soon.

Manoj, Usually the "Remove Programs" approach works well for most apps, but it really depends on how well the app's setup file was written, and where all the app stores its data. In case of your apps, you will have to go through all the directories on your storage, and you will need to manually delete any files or folders that these apps may have left behind. But be careful - don't delete any files in the system folders which you are not too sure about, since these may cause other apps to stop working.

This phone is kind of slow even when there aren't any applications running. It's also a bit too bulky. The battery is very good. The wifi is perfect. You can probably find a nicer phone with a faster processor for the same price.

Ketan, This is actually the default behaviour of Windows Mobile. Some phones include their own Task Managers, and the HTC one is actually pretty good. ASUS also includes Auto Cleaner for this purpose, but it doesn't work too well (at least for my needs). I have noticed that if i click "x" button to close the applications completely, it is just getting minimised and not closed. Only way to close applications completely is to go into memory section and stop all running applications. this is not a good way to free up memory. can anyone let me know how to close applications completely by just clicking "x" button? or is there any setting or third party software which can help in this regard?

Hi Neil, 1. If you are using the SatGuide software which comes packaged with the P527, then you do not need to (in fact, you can not even) update your included maps. You only need to update the Satellite data every 3 days, which can be done through a WiFi connection. But if you're using Google Maps, it does cache only a few maps, and you will basically need a GPRS connection for the most part, to download the maps on the fly. 2. As I mentioned before, if you don't downsize your videos yourself before moving them over to your device, the the device will have to do this work as you play them. Since the processor on these 2 devices is not the fastest one, it will make your videos lag and your audio slip. Just do the groundwork before copying your videos, and then enjoy them anywhere you go!

Hey Prashant, I am based out of Bangalore so the same software will will be applicable for me . 1. I have a WiFi connection at home, I updated my friends newly purchased P320s GPS through that. But can I update my maps by connecting my phone to my laptop over the internet ? I am not too keen on enabling GPRS on my phone. 2. I trasferred a couple of videos to the above mentioned P320. The video wasnt playing smoothly and there was a slight lag in the sound. Does this happen in the 527 ? Admittedly the video was not downsized. If I do pick up the phone I will be watching videos and movies on it. And as far as I know the hardware for both the p320 and p527 is the same. Can you clarify ?

Hi Neil, 1. The GPS software that ASUS distributes will depend on your location. In India, they bundle SatGuide which is based on the Destinator software. It comes on a 1GB card, but only takes about 50MB of space. I was able to transfer it onto my 4GB card, and it works fine, coexisting with the rest of my data files like movies and music. 2. Haven't seen any major performance issues, except when I am running many heavier applications simultaneously. 3. This may again depend on your map provider. As for SatGuide, the current maps will forever work for free, but if we wish to get an updated version, then we need to pay for that. 4. Google Maps should work well for most areas. They have great maps for India, but doesn't do too well when it comes to directions. You will however, need a GPRS connection since Google Maps will download the map data on the fly. As for the 3-day update, it is not the maps, but the satellie data, that needs to be updated regularly for the GPS to function flawlessly. I don't update the data that often, and the navigation software still works fine.

You should contact your College's IT department for this issue - my guess is that the Proxy Server is not recognizing your device, and you may have to install some certificates on it to fix the problem.

Hey Prashant, Thanks for clarifying my earlier doubt on the file size of the resized divX movies. 1. If I am not mistaken the phone comes with 2gb card in which the GPS software is loaded. I read in a lot of online phone review sites that the GPS software takes up most of the 2 gb space and that if we want to use the phone for storing data (music/movies) we need to get another card which we need to swap each time. Is this true or can the same card hold everything ? 2. Almost all the sites have said that the phone is sluggish and becomes slow to use . Is this true and if so to what extent ? 3. Do we have to pay for the maps in future ? 4. Can I manage with google maps itself ? I read earlier that the maps need to be updated every 3 days online. What happens if I dont do so ?

The final DivX file size would depend on what codec settings you use. I use pretty high settings for a good quality picture, and the file size is about half that of the original 640x480 sized movie. As for the screen size, 320x240 is reasonably big to enjoy a movie on the way, and also doesn't consume a whole lot of battery.

Nikhil, most colleges use a Proxy server that students need to connect to, before being able to use the WiFi services. If this is the case with your college as well, then go to Start -> Settings -> Connections Tab -> Connections, and click the "Set up my proxy server" link on the Tasks tab. Ideally, you should already be connected to your college WiFi network when you try this.

Manoj, the Airtel GPRS settings are already included in all handsets being sold in India. Simply go to Start -> Settings -> Connections Tab -> Network Setting, and select AIRTEL from the dropdown list after enabling the checkbox. If that doesn't work for some reason, give Airtel a call, and they can send you the settings remotely.

Hi Manoj, Once you have switched on your WiFi, go to Start -> Settings -> Connections Tab -> Wi-Fi. There you should see all the detected WiFi networks in the list on the Wireless tab, which should include your D-Link Router too. Click on it, and it takes you through the Settings screens. Fill the 1st and 3rd screens as applicable, and enter your authentication type & password details in the 2nd one. Click Finish and you'll be back at the Wi-Fi settings. Click the Connect soft-key, and that should do it! Don't really know anything about Lotus Notes - just as any other software, you'll have to check if they have a WinMo version, and if they do, then you can simply go ahead and install it.

Hi Ketan, I doubt that there is an option to change the vibration type, but I think this is a very minor issue. The phone has a pretty good battery life, and the phone won't be vibrating for long durations for most people anyways. I'll try and call you up tomorrow - just got a little held up today.

The mobile is able to detect the network, however post that I am not able to go forward. Achint , Go to Start > Settings > connections tab > Mode Tab and select make device visible to other devices . Then go to Beam settings using the same above mentioned way and check the 'Revieve all incoming beams' box. And wnenever you wish to send any data using bluetooth, do not select using the 'send' option in menu, instead of that use Beam file and u should be able to send the files. Hope it helps. Every one having trouble with the clock resetting 30 minutes. As prashant said earlier, just email Satnav and they wlll send you the link for the updated version which solves the problem. I had issues using the hardware keypad for writing SMS. When composing SMS, use keyboard mode and minimize the keyboard. Using the * key change the XT9 to abc and there you are, good to use the keypad just like and other low end phone. Ray.

I use VirtualDub along with the official DivX codecs - if you're trying to convert a DVD .VOB file, then you'll also need a modified version of VirtualDub which can handle MPEG streams. There is also a free Video Converter at which does a good job on most videos I throw at it.

Hi Achint, You can move around any files on the device to almost any location using the built-in File Explorer. Honestly, you'll be better off using a USB cable to transfer larger files to the device, since you can copy them directly to the memory card.

Neil, the WM Player included with the phone does not play DivX movies, but you would want to get the free TCPMP player anyways - it plays DivX and many other video formats, and does it better than the included player. As for the performance, I downsize my video files to the phone's resolution (320x240), and they play perfectly without any jumps or lags.

Ray, The Mass Storage Device option simply turns your phone into a memory card reader. The bad part is that your memory card won't show up in your phone in this mode. I'm guessing that you are using ActiveSync under Windows XP. If so, then you can still use the ActiveSync USB mode, and on your Computer. When you do, Windows Explorer only shows you the contents of your "My Documents" folder under "Mobile Device". In there, expand the "My Windows Mobile-Based Device" entry, to see the hidden "Storage Card" option! As for the keyboard, I'm not sure what you are trying to achieve - if the XT9 doesn't meet your needs, you can simply switch to the standard keyboard, or choose a 3rd party keyboard, like PocketCM. Not sure why Destinator is uninstalling when you uninstall another program. One thing you can do is to make sure that the Destinator entry is not unchecked in the list of applications when you do so.

I have figured out the way to use the memory card function Start > settings > connection tab > USB settings > Mass storage device . But am still not sure how to use the keypad as a normal "abc" keypad for writing messages.(wish the XT9 came preloded with our slang.) Secondly, whenever i uninstall any program from my phone using activsync , the Destinator (Satcom GPS map software) uninstalls itself and i have to install it all over again. Shashi, this phone does not come with a PDF Reader preinstalled, but you can download and install Adobe Reader or PocketXpdf for this purpose. GPS does eat up your battery quite a bit, while consumption is a little less when using FM or Push Email. The business card reader was just okay, but that is more a feature of the provided software.

Did you uninstall the older version first? If not, then it is probably still there since they use different pathnames. If yes, then you can simply go into the Program Files folders to check if the older version is still there. You can also run the software and check the current version number - it should be 7.5.

Abhishek, I use WiFi as well as GPRS/EDGE on this phone on a regular basis, and get connection drops only once in a while. Try resetting your WiFi Router and see if that helps. Otherwise, check the connection setting on the phone, and try playing around with them.

Shashi, you didn't need a separate post to figure that out! All you need to do is to compare both the Phone's Specs, which this site allows very easily. To answer your question, the O2 Atom Exec uses an Intel XScale PXA 27x 520MHz processor, which the P527 uses a TI OMAP 850 200 MHz processor - so, the former is likely to be faster. As for the Direct Push Email, almost all the newer WinMo phones, this one included, would include that.

MS, I haven't seen this time reset issue happening on a regular basis, although this did happen whenever I used the old version of SatGuide Destinator (clock reset by 30 minutes). Are you running any programs in the background which may be causing this? If not, then this may be a unit problem, and you should get it checked out by ASUS

I have bought a P527 phone 2 weeks back. The phone is a great experience but I am facing wifi connectivity problems. It gets connected to wifi and then goes off all of a sudden. Then it shall keep saying connecting(or shall not detect the network) but shall not reconnect till restarted. I have to reset the timings every morning since every night my mobile clock show a time difference of around 1 hr for example if it is 8 pm it shows 7 pm. Is this a known problem? Vijay, In my case, the Airtel GPRS settings were automatically downloaded when my phone tried connecting to their servers, after GPRS was activated at their end. If this does not happen for you, simply go into Settings -> Connections -> Network Setting and select AIRTEL as your provider in the dropdown list.

Sri, You can change the default appearance of the UI using Skins and Themes, which can be found all around the Web - a good place to start would be Microsoft's own WinMo site. The same goes for apps as well - search Google for the particular type that you are looking for, and you'll find many options.

I've posted in 3-4 messages before that you do require a GPRS connection to download maps on the fly for Google Maps, Nav4All, and even Live Search Mobile. Also, since you've bought a P320, and you are already posting the same question in the P320 page, please don't post the same questions here again.

Unfortunately, most free navigation softwares will require a GPRS connection to download maps on the fly - this includes Google Maps, Nav4All and Live Search Mobile. If you don't have a GPRS connection, then your best bet would be to buy a package that comes bundled with its own maps. Try SatGuide or MapMyIndia for this purpose. My favorite these days is MapKing, but it only supports a handful of major Indian cities.

Since the P320 doesn't come with any pre-installed navigation software, you will need to install one yourself. Check out Google Maps Mobile here: or point your Mobile browser here: m.google.com - this is a Mobile version of the Google Maps application meant specifically for the WinMo platform. As for other softwares, almost any GPS software which has a WinMo version should be compatible with the P320.

My guess would be to update your Satellite data using the GPS Catcher application. You can also try installing a different app like Google Maps to see if it catches your GPS signals properly. You can also use a diagnostic tool from MapKing called GPS Viewer:

Just switching on your WiFi is not enough - you need to go into your WiFi Settings through the Wireless Manager, and then add your WiFi Network details there. The GPS data is set to expire every 3 days - you can update it using the GPS Catcher application.

Just make sure that you have a valid connection through WiFi or EDGE/GPRS, and click the Update button in GPS Catcher. You can also modify the Settings so that this happens automatically when the data becomes expired, or through ActiveSync whenever you are connected to your PC.

Unfortunately, the phone doesn't include a SIM Manager. If you have a Bluetooth enabled older phone, then you could just Beam your Contacts to this phone. Otherwise, you will literally have to copy each Contact individually! As for softwares, this is a WinMo phone, so these are pretty widely available, including this site.

Did you get the official SatGuide MicroSD card with your phone, or did the vendor just "copy" the software to your MicroSD card? If it is the latter, then it is possibly a cracked version! (you can tell if you never had to activate the software through SatGuide). My vendor did the same, and I had the same hanging issues that you are describing. Once I obtained the official software from him, it is working like a charm! As for GPS softwares, I've tried a few: The problem with SatGuide and MapMyIndia is that they're just ports of their softwares meant for their own navigation devices - so they are not the most user-friendly out there. Even though MapMyIndia has the best POI database, but it is such a bad software that is a challenge to get it to be useful for the whole trip! MapKing on the other hand, is more of a native WinMo application, and has the fastest response time compared to the other 2 softwares. They only have maps for 3-4 major Indian cities, and each one is sold separately for about 1500 INR. There search functions (9 different types) are just superb, and very efficient - you can download a trial version from their web-site to check it out. As for the Infrared port, this phone doesn't have one. The official ASUS specs also don't mention one, although this site incorrectly mentions that this phone has it.

Hi bwaman, as I said earlier, there are a few freeware options available like Google Maps, Nav4All, and Live Search Mobile, although these require you to have a GPRS connection to download maps on the fly. You can also download the trial version of MapMyIndia to check out a more detailed navigation software. Opera 9.5 is an alternate web browser you can use instead of IE which came installed on the phone. There is a free mobile version called Opera Mini (http://www.operamini.com/) and an advanced paid version called Opera Mobile (http://www.opera.com/products/mobile/).

Padmanaban, The iPhone is without doubt a great phone, but comparing it to the 3 models which you mention is like comparing apples to oranges, or literally, comparing Apple to Windows, because that is what these phones are! I would suggest that you try to use these phones before commiting to buying one of them. I love using Macs, but even I had problems using the iPhone the first few times I used it. The WinMo phones, on the other hand, are quite similar to the Windows PC's in experience and customization, which is what attracted me to them.

Hi Prasant as you have already mentioned almost all key points I would like to mention that if you are not listening to FM then you are really missing something from this phone. I also own N82 and a few other phones of Sony and Nokia but none of them have the same sound quality in FM like this one.

The GPS service by itself is free for you to use. Depending on where you're located, this phone may come packaged with a free Navigation software. In the US you get the Asus GO software, while in India you get the SatGuide navigation package with a free 1GB MicroSD card. There are also a few freeware options available like Google Maps, Nav4All, and Live Search Mobile, although these require you to have a GPRS connection to download maps on the fly.

bwaman, it is really a matter of personal choice. I've already mentioned some of the similarities and differences between both the models before. The P320 is smaller and lighter than the P527 and also cheaper by 3-4K (INR). It also comes with updated WM6.1 and other softwares, although these should also become officially available for the P527 (and other ASUS models) soon. The P527 has built-in FM Radio, but I hardly ever use it. Even then, I prefer the P527 for a couple of reasons (which are imprtant for me personally): 1. The Keys: Before this, I have always used phones with non-touch screens and physical numerical keys (the last 2 were the Motorola Razr and the Nokia 9500 Communicator). I tried out the HTC Touch before going in for ASUS, and even though I really liked the WinMo experience, I was missing the tactical feedback in the softkeys. So, the physical keys on the P527 are a great transitional tool for me, and I may even opt for a P320 like model for my next phone. 2. The GPS Software: I really like the SatGuide Navigation software that comes packaged with the P527, which separately sells for around 4-5K. Even though there are many other great GPS software solutions available "illegally", I don't like to obtain them that way, since I myself work for a software firm, and believe it is ethically wrong to do so. I hope that helps - do let me know if you have any other specific question about the phones.

Not even close! This is a Windows Mobile phone, while almost all Nokia phones are based on the Symbian operating system. But, it doesn't take too much work to get used to this phone (especially if you are a Windows OS user). I was using a Nokia 9500 Communicator before this phone, and it only took me a few hours to get comfortable on this phone.

As I have already mentioned earlier when you accept files via Bluetooth it goes into the mobile device, not storage card, in my documents section.

Vicky, I believe the files go into the "My Documents" folder by default. You don't need to activate the GPS system - just update the Satellite data using the GPS Catcher application, and you should be good to go!

Select the file and select Beam option there you will find via MMS or Via Infrared or Via Bluetooth. Select Bluetooth. Remember when you accept files via Bluetooth things will get copied in your phone internal memory in My Documents section.

Come On August The battery back up is too good man. I have used loads of handsets and I would say this one has one of the best battery. Yeah that's true it takes nearly 3 - 3.5 hrs for completely getting charged but I have been using this phone for more than 5 months and it has one of the best battery available in the market.

If the dealer "copied" the software to your card, then it was probably a cracked version. Ideally, you should have received a sealed blue envelope with the SatGuide license number on a letter and a free 1GB MicroSD card containing the SatGuide installer. I ran into the same issue, and then contacted the ASUS Sales team. They told me that some dealers try to cheat people by keeping the SatGuide MicroSD cards, and then selling them later as newly formatted cards. They may also try to scam you by making you buy a "new" card where they would "copy" the software! If this is what happened to you too, go back to your dealer and demand to get the legal software on the free card that you should've received in the first place! I did the same, and SatGuide works fine for me now.

I purchased this phone in bangalore and tried using GPS - Satguide which was not pre-installed in my phone at the time of purchase. The dealer copied the S/W to microSD card. Satguide hangs frequently. Even to start the destinator it takes time.If anyone can suggest me on how to resolve the hanging problem. It does't gives proper voice navigation. I have used this mobile for 2 months. I have the most horrible experience using this mobile. It has plenty of problems. The major one is the battery. It hardly lasts a day and need 4 hrs for complete rechjarging. It hangs at least twice or thrice a day. I have already disposed it off in half of its price since it has no resale value either! I went to buy a N95 and finally settled with this. All know about the features of N95 but still I went for this primarily because of so many advanced features at lower price (even 18,000 is not so cheap, 3,000 INR difference from N95). Moreover this is window mobile phone and you can edit office documents. Business card reader is one of the primary features that interested me. Note N95 doesn't have such a feature. The camera isn't too bad when compared with other business phones at least better than HTC touch, HTC TYTNII. Loads of features at an reasonable price.

As I described earlier, while MP3 files can directly be set as your ring tones, this can not be done for alarms! The only method that worked for me is to convert your MP3 into a Wave file, and copy it into the Windows directory. It then starts to show up in the Alarm Options page.

By GRS, I'm guessing you mean GPS! Even if you lost all your "settings" due to a device hard reset, you should still have the SatGuide installer/software still there on the SD card that came with the package. Just use it to simply re-install the software!

Yes you can use Mp3 tone provided that you copy it in the right directory so that it is visible under the windows music files that are already provided.

For anyone experiencing the time lagging issue with the SatGuide GPS software, I was able to find a fix for the problem. Go to the Microsoft Mobile Website either on your PC or on your device: Download and install the small patch, and you should be okay after that.

Hi Ashish, Could you please post when you do receive a newer SatGuide version from ASUS. I have also seen the hanging issue, although only twice in the one week that I have had this device. Let's see if an update fixes it. The time lagging issue is actually pretty irritating, since it keeps on reseting my system clock back by 30 minutes every time I exit the application. Not sure if the update will take care of this issue. Finally, thanks a TON for suggesting Google Maps - I didn't even realize that they had an option to use the inbuilt GPS! You were right - while SatGuide could not find a signal inside buildings and within a few areas, Google Maps was able to find 3-4 satellites in each case!

I just bought it last week, and it does not come with any memory card included. In my case, the vendor copied over the SatGuide software on my own MicroSD card which I had carried over with me. As for the GPS performance, it is awesome in and around Delhi. I live in Noida, and have been watching the GPS on the last couple of trips to Delhi - it was a great experience (probably also because this is my first GPS). It displays all the main roads and small streets correctly, and even has the names for most of them.

I found the new bundled updated maps & destinator 7 are fantastic compare to others. And its not only better than HTC for pricing but also for GPS service with India's 1st & best GPS Navigation System (where you NEVER GET LOST).

Asus phone support has told me that they will provide me a new version of Satguide that may not hang. ( see my review below). The touchscreen lock functions only if you do not use the volume control on the right side of the phone. If during the call, if you change the volume jogwheel, the screen gets unlocked and touches your ears. The clock is getting lagged. Asus support did not say anything about that execpt for 'correct your clock and check it for a while'. Overall, as a phone, it is much better than most other phones. As a PDA , it lags behind due to processor. A good combo at a good price. But i wish Asus support and Satguide Maps were a little more usable. I loved the way Google Maps with GPS worked on that. Google maps could locate 5 satalites wheer as satguide software kept on waiting for signal in the same phone at the same location.

For GPS facilities like that of N95 Noika navigator or E 90 install a module in this phone. For touchscreen activate automatic lock within 10 seconds then no features will get activated while talking. Automatic lock facility is there in the phone only. Comeone I am using this phone and it doesn't hang so much as you said my phone hardly hangs once in two weeks or once in a month. For advanced browder facility install softwares man this is a WM phone you don't need to worry use it like a laptop.

I got this phone last week. I am presentlly using E series phones and was satisfied with the performance. The windows mobile 6.0 is good but a little slow. The speed issue may be because of the 200Mhz processor. But the internet is much faster due to edge , as compared to basic gprs. I tried Yahoo Go and Skpye and they seem to work but are a little slugish. I tried Voip thru skype on Airtel GPRS itself while on move and the quality seemed low as the other party could not hear me very clearly. I could hear them very well. I could not find any data convertors that can send my old messages from my e series phone to this, so data transfer could be a problem. On the other hand. contacts transfer was a breeze. Just selected all contacts from old phone and send them thru bluetooth to this one. It took about ten minutes and they were avaiable in the conatcts folder on WM6. The cons - Hangs when a few applications are user and we have to reset it atleast 3 to 4 times a day. GPS is average. I have found Nokia GPS phones better than this one. The satguide maps come bundled and are incomplete. They do not have even street information clearly, leave alone the house number information. The destinator aplication hangs a couple of times while calculating the route. The phone has to be reset. Another downslide is that it is just a WAP based internet system and does not support xhtml like e series does. The biggest downside is the touch screen. very efficient, but does not lock itself when the phone is used for basic calling. While holding close to the ear, and accidental touches, it often triggers soem application to open. Often , its the notes that are graphical . So, only one you ise it, you will understand the weird drawing your ears would make on the screen thru touch. Wish the touch screen locks itself when a call is in progress. Overall all a good phone. Better than HTC for the price.

Well N95 is a bunch of all things but with no specialty. The phone web browser is not too good. You cannot read emails clearly which you can do in a windows mobile phone. Moreover it doesn't have touchscreen. The camera is of 5 Megapixel but the quality lacks than that of N73. Most of the other features is useless in India. P527 music quality is really good and meets all the need of a business phone. Asus Manufactures its handsets inhouse and don't outsource it like Nokia. Moreover the after sales services are also very good. If you face a problem with Nokia then wait for 2 months lodge a case in consumer forum to get back your handset. yeah that's the hard fact of Nokia after sales services which we presume to be good just because it has a great market share. Asus problem gets solved within the same day. Maximum of 3 days, condition you are living in any well known metro.

I am using this Phone in New Delhi and I mean by enhance feature that if you want this phone to direct you by each and every turn accurately within an error margin of 3 - 5 meter then you should buy a module for having a fair enough idea about the location you did not need to buy a module. Even the maps that are coming with this device preloaded works very well and is very handy and they are very accurate too.... But for enhance feature like which lane you should take before taking a turn a module is a must but if you are satisfied with informations that take a turn after so much km and not information about whether that is a 8 lane or 4 lane road then you don't need to buy a module.... I hope I am clear by enhance features.........

Well I don't think that you will be using 5 to 6 programs at a time or use the phone actively like gaming, internet while connecting with a laptop if so I guess not only this phone no phone will match your expected processing power. Using 3 to 4 programs at a time works perfectly well in this phone. Moreover no one can really work with more than 4 programs at a time in a mobile devise come on it is not a super computer. Even ordinary laptops can't handle more than 4 programs at a time. Run SPSS or SAS on a laptop and try to run other media programs along that Sony Wiao will also fail.

As far HTC4350 is concerned it doesn't have FM also and business card recognition. It doesn't have world time and infrared port. Moreover the battery backup of this ASUS P527 is very good I use WiFi for 3 hours everyday listen to Fm for 1-2 Hr every day see video files and listen to MP3 songs for another 2-3 hours everyday surf the internet for more than 3 hours per day and still I have to charge this only once in two days. Actually I didn't take the risk for the third day. Did I forgot to mention that I talk more than 2 hours per day on this phone. I guess GPS is a very essential feature more persons like me who has to do loads of travel for official reasons needless to say. GPS comes very handy in that and this phone really helps me a lot in that.

Also when you are comparing with P527 and P750 the later does not have FM which P527 have. And more over all the other features of these two handsets are similar expect the processing power of P750 is greater than P527 and P750 camera is of better quality than P527.

Asus will better in India than Blackberry. The softwares are more compatible with ASUS as it is a windows mobile phone. Moreover you can edit office documents here but not with Blackberry.

As per your budget you can go for ASUS P535, M 530W, P526, P525. But among them P535 is the best. It has almost all the features of P527 but is does have FM. But it has a fast processor. Even P527 is good if you compare features and processing speed simultaneously. P527 processing speed is better than N95.

Well this phone is not as fast as a laptop but better than Nokia N series phones which hangs miserably or Samsung Metal series. But if you run to many programs simultaneously and you don't close them or clear the memory from settings then it will respond slow otherwise with two to three programs running it works absolutely fine. Also when ActiveSYN is active i.e. when you connect it with a PC or laptop and then try to use the phone office or other things then it is very slow. Other wise I would say that that the processor is fine and it works fine.After all no one can work more than three or four programs simultaneously in a mobile

Hi, No Skype doesn't come pre-installed in it but you can easily install it. Actually you are a bit tech savvy you will never find problem installing any software. You can really use this as a mini laptop. There are loads of compatible softwares available in the net for windows 6.0 and you can easily install them in the P527.

Well I have been using this phone for more than two months now and I am quite happy with it. I have been surfing net, taking pictures, listening to music, using office and I can say that it is pretty good. I have used N95 and also N93 and I can assure you that it is better than that. But sometimes the phone hangs up and you have to reset it. But this doesn't cause any data loss. It's upto you for buying the phone or not but I can say that I am happy with it's performance.

This is cool phone when compared with many other phones. I thought of having N95 at first but when I found this phones I changed my mind. Moreover this is what a business phone should be. The internet surfing is good and there is no distortion in emails especially when you compare it with other N series or E series. Moreover editing of office documents is an added advantage which no Nokia phone have. Even it is sleek and stylish. Wifi gives an added advantage. PDF files can be viewed when other soft wares are installed. In short much better for business purpose when compared with Nokia, Motorola, Sony, LG, HTC (Low end handsets i.e. < 22K INR ). The camera is also great and the pic quality is better than N73. The sound quality is also great when you hear it with the help of earphone. Even the speaker phone is also good.

Have this phone, and like it. It is small, very light in the hand, and feels good. Screen is super bright, and very crisp. The phone quality is superior (using Rogers Wireless in Toronto). Speaker is above average also. The 5-way navigation stick is easy to use, and the 3-way jog dial is convenient also, but would have preferred this on the right of the phone (for the right handed user). Phone seems quite fast for what I use it for. The one gripe I have is with the GPS software (ASUS GO). It seems to freexe the phone on me. Keep trying to use it, but the phone locks up and I have to reboot. Only had it working once. Have an email in to ASUS support, but after over 1 week of waiting, still no reply. Also, it takes up the entire 2GB card that is supplied, and you cannot tranfer to another card. Too bad about that, since I bought an 8GB SDHC card that works great in the device, but the fact that you have to pop out the 8GB card with the 2GB card to use the preinstalled GPS application is a little backwards. Overal I would give this an 8 out of 10.

I've been using the phone for a couple weeks now, and it seems to be pretty good. Occasionally it doesn't catch the clicks properly causing the position of the stylus to be somewhere you're not tapping. The software is pretty light weight, so the phone is handling the applications quickly. Adding 3rd party apps has made this phone even better (ie. mini Opera browser, GSPlayer, although the GSPlayer does not support music control buttons from A2DP bluetooth headsets). The GPS is a nice touch, but kinda useless since you cannot upload maps to be viewed. The GPS has the ability to tell your traveling speed and compass direction. Nothing to write home about. The 2.0 mega-pixel camera is good when used in well-lit rooms or outdoors. The picture becomes grainy in low light conditions. The camera also has a TRUE mechanical auto-focus! You can switch to macro mode to get those really detailed shots. The video mode will only capture in 176x144 at highest resolution though. The addition of wi-fi make for easy syncing with your network once you're in range. The FM radio only functions when the headset is plugged in since the wire acts as the antenna, but this is common among most phones. Although the headphones have to plugged in, music can still be played via the loudspeaker. The onboard speaker is fairly quiet even on the loudest setting. My ROKR E6 is much louder at max volume. There is a quick key on the phone that will let you quickly change the orientation of the screen, perfect for when you're viewing the web, or watching videos in full screen mode. The fit and finish of the phone is of excellent quality. The seams line up nicely and don't expose any gaps around the phone, especially between the phone and battery cover. The front of the phone is made in a brushed aluminum or stainless steel, seems very sturdy and able to with stand some shock to the face. The backside, where grey, has a rubber coating to it. This keeps the phone from sliding around easily. A nice touch, since it's the backside which get scratched the most on most phones, from people tossing them on the table. There is a manual switch that can be switched to turn the keylock on. Or you can hit the power button to put it in sleep mode until the END or SEND button is pressed. A fully charged battery has given me at least 2 days worth. Each day listening to the radio 8 hours a day, bluetooth on, wi-fi on, and about 45 minutes of talk time. I haven't gone until the battery was completely drained, but i suspect it could go a third day uncharged. The screen is a fingerprint magnet and collects oils from your face when pressed up against it. Also if your face touches the phone when you're talking and the key lock isn't engaged, you can accidentally activate items in your top bar, on occasion, i've changed the clock from displaying in digital to analog. I don't have too many gripes about the phone and i think it was pretty well done. A little more involved when compared to my Motorola ROKR E6. A little harder to use at first, but you get used to it. Some of the items on the screen are smaller, so using my finger to tap things on the screen makes it harder to use when compared to my ROKR E6.

also this phone is not "slow" either, the processor is a different type, useing lower frenqency, and yet provide full power, just to remind you people, this phone use windows mobile 6, which is the windows vista version, it take a lot processor from the cpu, but this cpu can handle it with no problem, it's just like an core 2 duo processor, but it's not a duo core.

who need 3g, it's only for video calling, this thing has wifi, i have the p526, great phone, it's the real smart phone, you can do voice control, voice control the application on the phone, and dialing the number, it's the real smart phone, i have not seen any phone that can do what this phone can do, i work in optus store, and i think this phone is much better then anyother phone in the market that is in australia.

TI-Omap is only good in terms of conserving battery, but no good for hardware acceleration.....
