Garmin-Asus nuvifone A50 - User Reviews

  • very fine

  • i need emergency no i want to call u

  • I got this phone on Amazon when it was released in 2010, and it supposed to be unlocked...but NO!!...So, I still have it somewhere in home, never used....LOCked and apparently, there is no way to unlock it...anyone in here knows how to unlock it...it would probably make a great back up GPS and phone for my car....

  • Download Garmin MapUpdater v3.3.4, connect your A50 via USB and the map update starts automatically. I just performed an update via a new laptop today.

  • How have you managed to update the maps?

  • Correct, it doesn't download while navigating (unless you want current trafic updates and such, ofc) and the entire map is a fully featured Garmin-map. Furthermore it comes (well came) with a lifetime-update on maps, and it's still available. I'm currently updating the map on mine :)

  • hi, this is Adnan. i hve Asus A50. i want to knw that how can I install apps to SD Card or how can i move apps to SD Card.?

  • To me, this phone is very elegant in appearance. However, in function, it is just okay. Prior to this phone I had a Motorola i1 running just Android 1.5. This one is running Android 2.6, however, the Motorola i1 could run more Google applications than this one. I bought this phone particularly for using the Garmin Navigation function for free instead of having to pay for TeleNav Navigation usage. And it was good until I installed the latest Google Maps to it. Google Maps is, in my opinion, a much better navigation service than both Garmin's and TeleNav's (and possibly Tom Tom's as well) and it is FREE. Now I feel like selling this phone and getting one with a faster running processor and using Google Maps exclusively for navigation.

  • You're RIGHT!!!! Over here in Europe its fully standardize.

  • I've had this A50 for three months now and everything seems to be working as smooth for me. The only PROBLEM with the phone is the battery. And after reading some of the comments posted here i think every country and its standard(EU).

  • dear jigsta, no secondary camera does not mean it doesnt support 3g or videocall.you can check out the dell fones it doesnt have the secondary camera option but has videocalling facility using the main camera.

  • This does not have video call support as this doesn't have a secondary front camera... read the Specifications... In Camera section, if it says [secondary] "No" then the fone doesn't support 3g/Internet video calling...

  • Please in Pakistan, From where I can buy it????

  • most phones that have that .have a cramra on the front of the thing

  • i want to know if this garmin asus a50 have a video call support??

  • i want to know this garmin asus a50 cant make a video call or not???

  • The camera only supports QVGA (320x240) resolution, and produces quite poor-quality videos (compared to a Samsung Jet S8000)

  • hi i have 1 and yesit is good 2 play games on ihave not yet played a move on it yet but if the game grafices r 2 go by playing moves shoud b good.

  • Telechoice selling for au$179 optus locked for 6mths. Otherwise, $80 dollar to unlock. Size and shape an iphone 3 copy. Performance though not better than iphone 3 but for this price you get to use applications and games from andriod market. Free turn by turn navigation with lifetime updates (iphone 3 use data). Well a typical GPS cost more than $100. Generous with accessories, comes with free car mount and car charger. Cons, abit hard to find other accessories. Cant find perfect case anywhere but you can still easily get screen protector (US$2), additional batteries (US$15), compatible case (iphone 3) on ebay.

  • The phone is great. GPS reception is extra ordinary. I can lock satellite signal in my friend's office(1st floor of 3 storey shop lot). The only problem is when you create a new contact, it take more than 10 sec to save the contact. 2 of my friends A50 take more than 2 minutes. Sometimes more than 20 minutes. Asus should fix the bug ASAP.

  • Picked one of these up in the week from Dick Smith for $199 on Optus as previously stated. What can I say? For the price its a revelation. Sits high above similar phones at this price point. A genuine Iphone/HTC/Galaxy competitor for most things. Sure the camera's only a 3mp but at then end of the day, a proper digital camera is still gonna take better pics. The design is understated, not ugly or cheap. Its not a flashy phone in the way it looks, something I appreciate with all the phone whores these days. Screen is nice, not up to Iphone 4 levels of clarity but definitely as good as the Iphone 3. Android system is great as per usual with the phone wanting for nothing imo. Must be noted screen is a proper capacitive touch, not a resistive. Something that really propels user friendliness, ( I don't REALLY like touchscreens) and navigating the phone isn't an issue. Navigation is impeccable as to be expected and nothing can touch the A50 in this area. What it boils down to is not so much what the phone DOES do cause you know, you can see the specs, you know the OS and the features, its what it DOESN'T do....and that's annoy me. Using the phone day to day is great, battery lasts a while (still a modern day smartphone, don't expect days on end), would say its better then an Iphone, making calls (shock horror) is fantastic, dedicated call button on the face to access this beats hunting through menus, texting is identical more or less to the iphone setup, challenging for most guys with normal hands but still doable. I would rate this phone an 8/10, its got everything you NEED in a smart business style phone without the wanky "look at me" image that comes with the main stream phones. Only downside is lack of accessories on ebay and the like. I expect big things from Garmin-Asus, to get a phone this right so early on is a promising sign!

  • Yep, Dick Smith here in Auz sel it for $199.00 unlocked. I have 2 of these and find them great.

  • Seriously the best smart phone I've had. My friend got rid of his iphone for one.

  • Get a iphone. Garmin Asus is not exactly the phone for applications or entertainment.

  • Is selling it in Australia for $199 (unlock) 2 DickSmith.

  • i have been dreaming of having this phone for a few months now, but don't know of any shops/locality in Kuantan selling this one. Anyone can help??

  • Best navigator android smart phone

  • Does anyone know if these are compatible with telstras next g network?

  • why i should go for A50? samsung galaxy is hundred times better.A50 is too much costly again a smaller display.

  • These have been great phones in Australia. Have not had 1 complaint about them & no returns.

  • The A10 is superior for camera, RAM and ROM, but has a somehow smaller diplay (3.2 vs. 3.5 inches). Otherwise they are identical. So, if you can live with the smaller display, go for the A10.

  • what is the disserence between A10 and A50.I have good deal with 30 percent less than A50 ,should I go for it?

  • angry birds, bejewelled. skyforce and asphalt.its ok to play this games for a50. downloaded video clips its also ok to watch from this cheap android phone.i like this phone useful when you travel.

  • is this phone also good for watching movies and playing games? coz honestly, i don't use GPS. i'm just interested for its screen, internal memory, and the quite massive RAM

  • So this phone comes with a lifetime cardupdate. Is it automaticly coupled by registration?

  • I just got this phone second hand and I love it. I am a techie guy and am very particular about my phones and I would say this beats the iphone hands down. I miss 2 things only the 3.5 headphone jack and the camera led flash, but other that that it is great!! Currently using it on Simple Mobile talk and data, the Garmin features are exactly what I wanted and with Android 2.1.1 the apps keep coming.

  • Would this phone be getting froyo or gingerbread?

  • hi go to the main menu in phone go to phone settings and scroll around in phone settings it should be there as i have one and i turned it off

  • Is This Mobile's GPS Work in India...?

  • Well.. I k´just CANT recognise this. I have an A50 as weel, and it woks just smooth! It seems to me that youre havent done any updates on it have you? I do agree that the alarm hasnt the best tones, but its just soo easy to change it at will. So I just dont get it. I have now my A550 in 2 months and it just works. Contacts? no problems here. GPS? The best i have ever seen long. The worse about it? The user's manual is a mess! I just dont understand what youre describing, its possible you have a faulty unit (In this case get a new one) or you just dont understand the sway the android system works on this phone...

  • the best android navigation phone.. i like it

  • i think it is a good phone and a great GPS system. More then that u acces to Android market. What i love most about this phone its the GPS. It is working perfectly.

  • using this phone for two weeks. in standby mode just texting 2 days battery life. when using wi fi, games battery life 1 day only

  • just preordered this phone it looks really awesome and its my first phone (cuz im young)so pretty excited about this i know now i wont get lost

  • what about battery backup sir / talktime if i use internet

  • this is my first touchscreen phone. im getting use to it. i think this is a wonderful phone there's have a built in map, very useful when you travel. this is a cheap phone compare to other android phones, mine has been upgraded to 2.1

  • i have it , and i am so happy with this phone , amazing phone no need of data plan to use of navigation , and its loaded , i SAY LOADED .

  • can garmin asus read sms in arabic text?

  • i just got one.everything is working fine with this phone, just dont have flash for the camera.well maybe thats why its cheaper then the rest.

  • The phone itself is using satelitte. no charges using the GPS

  • works just like a Garmin unit, no need for data connection, not even a sim card.

  • Hi, can someone please tell me if this phone has an assiosted gps only or is it a full operational gps that does not depend on the mobile network? Thanks in advance

  • can someone pplz tell me how to turn of the vibation key thing?????

  • Works very well after doing all the upgrades - I.E. to 'droid 2.1 & Garmin map upgrade. A Steal at $200. You need to install a few Apps using the Market widget - working fine with Telstra and Virgin Mobile.

  • I bought mine from DSE two days ago it is only Android 1.6 version but it can be updated.

  • i like it yum yum

  • currently android 2.1.

  • Best android phone if you compare the pricse of other android models from Sams HTC. Android + Garmin Navigation.

  • The GPS is built in meaning it does not need data. Works exactly like a portable GPS unit

  • Is the Garmin-Asus nuvifone A50 eligible for Android Froyo 2.2?

  • Does its GPS is stand-alone like normal GPS? How the wifi works? Video format?

  • my personal review Garmin Asus A50

  • Miami_grl is right. I have the similar problems with contacts. Really frustrating. Agree setting options limited. Unless I am real noob and dont understand this phone, it does not even have "user profile" and I can't switch phone to "silent" or "meeting"!!!

  • Best phone I have ever owned!!! I love it. Its simple, fast, takes great photo's, has everthing and more on a phone that I could ask for. GPS is spot on and I love how it saves your parking spot!!

  • The best android navigation phone

  • Excellent phone to have. absolutely everything you want in a google phone + Garmin GPS. Not every phone has this to boast

  • Garmin cyclinggpsunits all about:

  • ****CHANGING FROM DEFAULT RINGTONES**** to change from the default ringtones, you must have the desired mp3 on your phone. Access it from the music menu and then instead of tapping on the song, hold down on the song until a menu comes up and select to use it as default ringtone. hope this helps

  • kevin i know how to do it ,theres a program in android market called bluetooth file transfer, and for your ringtone thing u have to download some application that is able to set your music as ringtone, theres one for messages called handcent, thats for messages but it lets you set different ringtones in contacts ,phone,or messages or just download 91pandahome and u done,if u have android 2.1+ then install panda home 2. questions? rmjrjay at hot mail

  • Looks Good

  • world no.1 phone loceshan best life . god touch screen no hanging no battery problam

  • I've had this phone for about three weeks now. I've been calling (uncooperative)T-Mobile for the last week trying to give it back. Here is a list of what doesn't work on this phone, what is messed up about this phone and why I actually hate it more every day and fully regret my decision: - the GPS - recently found application just decisded one day to die and now it only makes me forceclose it every time i try to access it, even after hard reset; the voice navigation works when and if it wants, whether you turn the phone off and back on or no matter what you try, it just doesn't care abou your needs, it has it's own agenda; then there's the fun fact that it doesn't know basic things that are around and can't locate a place even if you're right next to it, which means i had to pop my glove compartment and use my own, old GPS. thx garmin. with this phone i expected the GPS to be solid and unfortunately, it's as weak as the rest of the phone. - contacts - it syncs something somehow when you get it, god only knows what or how because you don't have much control. so now i have to manually go over something like 600 contacts which consist of the following: every email i ever sent to every address, now is a contact; for every time i emeiled the same person, i have a new contact; for some reason, it does not like syncing my phone numbers; so far i found more than a hundred contacts that are just a name i don't even recognize and have no information whatsoever when you open it up; let me also mention that you cannot merge contacts, so if you're used to that android app, say buh-bye!; if you want to add a friend to a group or to star setting, you have to go into individual settings, you can't just "edit" that directly at the contact, so follow the yellow brick road to get out of contact, go back to contact settings and menu, get into sim phone book (if it's not exported to sim than you just have that much more work to do....you get the picture; there are probably a couple more things i could get into about the contacts but i got too frustrated just with the basics, besides, i still have to edit like 400 more contact tonight - apps - what can i say? i've never encountered a phone so poor on apps, but maybe i'm spoiled since i had a motorolla cliq droid which got stolen which is when i got talked into getting this phone. at least twice a day, different apps go to "forceclose" on me and i have to start over. - you can't do voice recordings, doesn't come with any notepad option, and the alarm clock has the most annoying wakeup tunes ever - the touch is not as great as other phones and it does have way too many moments when it just goes to freez mode. super, i love this, especially when i'm inputting a business contact at a meeting - settings - go ahead, i dare you to feel good about the lack of settings abilities - calendar - this is not something you can view or sync to your computer. if you can, than i must be too frustrated with this phone to even go that distance at this point unfortunately for me, i didn't realize how bad it sucked and how many issues it was piling on until two days after my 14 day remorse period with T-Mobile, so their response is "too bad, so sad for you, pay us anyway, take it and shut up". they're not even knowledgeable or curtious about the phone and the issues i'm having. so, turning the phone off and back on, didn't work, hard reset, didn't fix anything. now it seems they'll just keep replacing it with the same type of phone until the end of time. save yourself, and DO NOT BUY THIS PHONE. if after all that, you still think you want this phone, let me know, i'll sell you mine - happily

  • hi can u plz tell us how to get the bluetooth get working and to change the rigetone apart from da default ringtones? thx.

  • nokia has free turn by turn for your information

  • ""There is no offline navigation solution in the mobile market, I mean none of the iphone or palm or blackberry applications provide turn by turn street names or export waypoints, or buy global maps as sophisticated as Garmin/NavTeq, the best one is th..."" You dont know anything do you? There are Copilot, Navigon and iGo for Android phones and even more offline GPS software for Windows mobile.

  • There is no offline navigation solution in the mobile market, I mean none of the iphone or palm or blackberry applications provide turn by turn street names or export waypoints, or buy global maps as sophisticated as Garmin/NavTeq, the best one is the google maps navigation which you need internet connection (if you are lost during camping or traveling in a another country without paying roaming charges it's useless) on the otherhand nuvifone A50 (or aka garminfone) is an ideal navigation online or offline.

  • I have been demoing this product. I absolutely love it. its very fast and nimble. the size is perfect! the screen is very large. Yes the menu style does look very basic, however this phone is performing at a very high level. Its funny how alot of people are posting negative reviews on a product they have not physically used.

  • No, Thank You, Except if i get it for free and i can sell it after that.

  • is very beautifull

  • Asus seems to improve, I wish them all the best.

  • this phone need to fix check this video via

  • The frequency bands are not all in one phone. Asus sells different A50 for different country!!!!

  • Thanks for that update, it's great. Looks like the ONLY phone that I will get as I live in Australia ( a funny place with roaming on 850/900/2100 within the same country. So it's a blessing

  • The A50 supports 5 UMTS bands - 850, 900, 1700, 1900 and 2100 according to their website.

  • I thought it's going to have an "HVGA" resolution screen?

  • It's odd that this phone supports UMTS 850/900/2100? Probably A first in the world? or typo error?

  • Can't record video with the camera? Why?

  • must be huuuuge! why is that for, this... space... below the screen? 3,5 inch screen means big size already. But this... useless space under the display.... is totally .... stupid!!!!

  • it just looks like they're G60 which came out a year ago. come on, asus, create something different for a change. spec wise its ok, needs Wi-Fi if its going to be a seller though

  • stylish ? .. to me it looks rather old fashioned. even the M10 has a more premium look. don't know how long it will take, till any company will offer an android phone that could be called stylish. maybe the x10, but that one is too big to look really sexy. :-)

  • Sleek. Probably the one that'll be a worthy competitor to Nokia. But if N900 gets Free voice Nav too. then this phone will only be of exotic status.

  • This phone looks so sleek and stylish!

  • This phone looks so sleek and stylish!
