Not a bad phone as such (even better considering the fact I got mine for free two years ago), but was too expensive when new, and Windows Mobile 6 got abandoned too quickly (it has Windows Update feature but there was no single update available ever) - currently it is hard to find any usable app for it. Also has one issue I found no solution for - when typing too fast, it is sometimes missing the keystrokes - so it's not possible to type so fast as on standard phone from that age. I had Nokia E63 before (until its display got damaged) and I liked that Nokia more.

Hey, I had this phone for about 2 years. Worked very well for about the first year but then for some reason water vapour started collecting under the screen, not sure why as it wasn't really exposed to any water (apart from occasional rain!) Pro's: Email functionality is very good, quick connection speed. Unfortunatly I can't seem to send any outgoing emails (with talktalk and smtp server details seem ok) Microsoft word is useful for viewing documents (these can be edited but to be honest it takes ages as it's not a qwerty keyboard) Absense of touchscreen. Personally not too keen on touch screen phones/pda's, just find it takes longer to operate. Con's Phone occasionally crashes if too many tasks are running Water seems to get under the screen (although nobody else seemed to have this problem so may just be a one off) 2.5mm jack which means if you want to connect the phone to a speaker or just standard headphones you have to purchase a 2.5mm to 3.5mm adaptor When approaching the two year mark it started to crash during calls All in all a good phone, however if you own it for a long time and use it everyday it can start to fall apart slightly!

Great Phone. Battery drains if apps are still open. Simple fix: On home screen, - Shortcuts - List running programs (option 6) - Menu - Kill All (option 2) This will close any apps that are still open in the background

if anybody is having problems like the phone turning off by itself, or the wifi not connecting, then simply hard reset the phone, it should fix these problems. To hard reset the phone first power down the phone by holding the red button, then hold the middle square button as you power on the phone by holding the red button, then follow the on screen instructions.

Phone is quite slow and sometimes is switching off by itself. Battery life makes you wish more. And if you had bought it go to hp website to download program which will solve your battery problem. Overall it's not bad but could be better.

Hi, bought this phone a few months ago and have found a way to get it on the internet through O2 pay and go using gprs!!! First turn on your hp 514 with the o2 sim card inside and let it load up. You will then need to perform a hard reset. To do this, hold in the power button and hold in the navigational buttons, a command prompt will appear asking if you're sure you want to reset. It will then load up as new, however as your o2 sim card is already in, you will have an option whether you are on o2 contract or prepay, select prepay and then set up the rest of the phone e.g. time and date. It should then succesully connect to the internet. PLEASE NOTE, I FOUND THIS ON ANOTHER FORUM AND THE PROCEDURE WORKED ON MY PHONE BUT SOME COMMENTS WHERE LEFT THAT THE PHONE DID NOT TURN ON AGAIN. I CANNOT BE HELD RESPONSIBLE! ALSO WHEN A HARD RESET IS PERFOMED ALL DATA WILL BE LOST E.G. EMAILS, TEXT MESSAGES, INCLUDING NUMBERS, UNLESS SAVED TO THE SIM CARD! Good luck!

Pretty phone, nice size. I would NOT recommend it though. It switches itself off occasionally, it forgets wi-fi network keys, sometimes it doesn't hang up calls, it sometimes won't surf the net via gprs if it's been surfing via wi-fi (memory leak). Battery life not brilliant. Often Locks up when trying to redial a number. Won't play standard video clips (Odd screen size) Everything HP suggest doesn't fix it - Factory reset, upgrade O/S, etc. If it didn't have niggly faults it would be brill.

hi everyone!! for you youszero, how to configure wap, internet and mms?? first your service provider has to publish that on it own website, you can check and try any phone configuration with microsoft windows mobile 6.0 standard edition. it is so easy to configure!!! if you can�t find, i give you an example: digitel venezuela (gsm900/1800mhz, gprs, edge) enter menu, go to configuration, then go to conections, go to gprs, here you have 2 config to run: first internet or wap: click "new...", then the phone will open a windows with some cells to fill with some data, description, connect to, access point, user name, password, main dns, second dns, ip adress, when you finish to fill part or all cells, click ready. now you have internet or wap second mms: click new again, then type your service provider mms setup. you can take this from a branded phone from your provider with windows mobile 6 or better. hope to help you!! regards dj metelex

One of the best phones for its price. If your phone hangs or goes slowly u probably have virus or some program drains your battery. I suggest to make master reset after u save all data inside external memory card ( there are programs to restore all contacts + sms with 1 click ) To make master reset , turn off your phone , keep pressing the square central button and turn the phone ON at the same time....it will ask you ..Master reset ....click yes ...and your phone is formatted and behaves like u just bought it ,hopefully with no virus in it.

The market. **2 is the Asian version. **4 is for the US (or is it European?) version. Same for the iPaq 61* and 91* phone too. The Asian version have Chinese text support, while European version has the European major countries' language interface.

Some people don't understand the limitations of this HP iPAQ 514. That's why it's called Smartphone because of its value and economical price. So don't expect too much out from this phone. I have this one also but I don't mind about some of its shortcomings because I didn't spent that much on this.

New document can be made with an application. Search for Modaco DoNew. For Youtube and MP4, there are 3rd party applications you could install to play them. Make sure it's made for non-touch screen device though. As for text message storage, I think all smartphones have virtually unlimited text message storage as far as the memory allows.

Love this phone.Simply the best non-3g phone ever. talking 21 mins, and the battery went down 3%. 3% as 51% to 48%, and I still didn't mention that it's harder to make the battery from 100 to 80 then 80-60 or 60-40. MSN works wonderful, wi-fi is usable, camera quality is on the level of Motorola 2mp cameras. But the best point of this phone is still the battery life, can bear a total week and I used it so much, hard to beat a bar down off the battery. Talking sound quality and volume is lovely,couldn't hear anyone on a Nokia and a Samsung after using this phone. The GSM level is almost always on maximum, can talk from the basement also, when others can't find network.

The application? Opera Mini ? That program needed internet connection and somehow stuck installing around 80% progress. Same as when I tried it in my brother's Nokia 9300i I installed another Java engine, Esmertec's. Works fine, but I don�t have much application to say everything works well all the time though.

Great smartphone! Camera is just too much better than i would expect for a smartphone. Even though the small size of the video, it has great definition and amazing sensitivity in darkness. I'm very happy ith it. And wm6 is a great ROM, many softwares, many customization. Voice recognitions is usefull and funny!!!! She speaks with something like a chinese accent. Works fine for me also. My problems are mostly: - The ear plug doesn�t fit too well with my ear. So it�s turning to 3rd party for solution. - The 176 x 220 sized screen. It show pictures good enough for me. The problem is, most WM6 smartphones already used 240 x 320, and many applications are made for that resolution, including themes. - The Wi-Fi manager doesn�t have option for more advanced configurations such as manual IP and DNS. Hasn�t found 3rd party apps that could do it. But, the sound is great enough for my mediocre ear. All the drivers for Windows Mobile Device Centre also installed smoothly. Browsing using Opera Mini also works smooth, depending on the internet connection. Camera, for use in internet and reduced to less than 20% dimension, good enough, I guess� The battery rarely drops lower than a bar, but I also always plug the USB cable every day to synch informations. It charges at the same time.

HP already said that no OS update for hp phone for now because hp has delay something..... it's a good phone but the processor is a bit low... you have to use overclock 4 da processor... Got mine yesterday have been browsing the internet for atleast 3 hours on it and battery went down by only 1 bar out of 4 bars,Windows live messenger works well bit slow signing in!Camera is acceptable on a phone will test it later.Installed fring on it works perfectly and quickly call quaility is quiet good but at the time wi-fi cineecion signal was low,Wi-fi is very impressive signal is affected by usual thing so rotating the phone slighty (as apposed to the ariel on a pc card)will improve connection.Web browsing is very good on i.e installed opera beta and its like being on a pc!id recommend you upgrade to the 6.1 version of wondows mobile sync for your pc as it connects easier.Sound qauility is excellent and the handsfree headphone are clear and crisp and excellent quaility and very high volume.. Skype works too well, when fring is instaled. Its a good smartphone. The life of battery is good. The processor es quit slow, but it works well. An advice: You should to update the ROM, this solve some initial troubles.

I bought an O2 graphite recently and then switch to HP 514. I can say HP 514 is much much better than Graphite. Battery life of 514 is far superior. In term of processing speed, not much different. Keypad of 514 is better and its OS is reliable. Never hang. Buy 514 and u will not regret!

this is a great phone- long battery life 3.5-4 days with bluetooth ON. Very stable- hardly ever needs restarted. doesn't have ll the bells and whistles, but at least you can phone, e-mail, txt when you want without the hassle of previous mobile 5 phones.

I have a 514. The WIFI is unreliable which really cripples it for SIP. The SIP codec can't be altered either. Many reports of battery issues and I seem to be having this just two weeks in. It's got active synch but most 3rd party programs are no good because they have 320x240 resolution. I installed fring (specifically version for the 514) but it messed up the screen. It's a good phone for the money but if you are looking for a smartphone then you probably will be too frustrated by its shortcomings.

I have the HP 512 for a while. It took me some time to get used to the small keys. I am not particularly happy that I cant assign phone tone to different groupings of friends but its not that important to me, just that its nice to know who is calling you when u are driving. I have problem setting Skype to my phone. Not sure if this is possible. Anyone out there who knows more of this, plse give some advice. I like this phone after a while and want to find a nice silicone cover but HP somehow is not a popular brand to get a proper cover. The speaker cant be compared to many out there when one wants to play MP3 music. So much about this phone.

i got mine last month and i regret buying this sh** of a fone. It is so slow with a 200Mhz precessor. the camera is useless unless you keep your subject perfectly still for 10 seconds. useless for taking pictures of my kids. it hangs almost every time i text while the mediaplayer is on. the wifi reception it useless as well. and its so hard to multipress since the keys are too small and packed so close. now i got a Nokia N80. but im still keeping this HP iPAQ 514 I am now using it as an MP3 player. at least there one function on it that i can use.

Got this phone a month ago. Works well - Crashes about once a week. Works well with sipVoip, sometimes drops wifi connection - I tried it with 3 different routers so I believe that it is a HP514 fault. Skype kinda works with fring - but sound is choppy - couldn't carryon a conversation. Battery useless if you leave wifi switched on. Camera better quality than Nokia6230i - dont know why. Camera good for photographing an A4 page. Only 2.5mm socket for headphones. VALUE FOR MONEY @ �260

nice looking phone and light (although feels too plasticky and flimsy), but small keys makes it hard to text messages. Quite unuserfriendly compared to Nokia or Motorola. Battery life is not good either especially if you use WLan. If you set the alarm and switch the phone off, it won't come on automatically - it only does if it's in flight mode. And you cannot select the alarm just ON, it has to either be on for 'everyday' or for 'weekdays'! It has nice features but you have to scroll through menus on end to get to your desired one as nothing is straight forward - even to increase the volume or simply lock the phone!

As a business phone, this is perfect. If you like phones that have a decent camera, play silly ringtones, play MP3's and play movies then you arent using the phone as a business phone. You are using it as a personal phone, there is a big difference.

176x220x16bit resolution is STANDARD for Morons. QVGA (320x240x16bit) or better VGA (640x480x 16bit or 32bit) is standard for the others which use Windows Mobile. 176x220 was never and will be never a standard for any device on Windows Mobile.

This mobile is not for children and morons that look at cameras and radios (LOL).The screen resolution is being STANDARD for windows mobile based devices for a long time and remember this ain`t nokia or SE, you can have more than 20 lines at a time at this display and it`s readable.Most of today`s applications for WM support 176x220x16bit. The mobile is perfect for those who know what they want.For all others go buy something else, this won`t fit you.

65k color is the depth of colors for each pixel (point on screen) not the resolution (number of pixels, points on its screen). Its resolution is very bad, very low; it is not suitable for Windows Mobile.

Its resolution is less than resolution of any smart phones like QVGA; that means problems with the most graphical applications, too few words on its screen. It�s not about fancy features is about the quality and number of letters that you can see on that cheap display contrary to any trend in technology like HDTV. All displays go up; this phone�s display goes down.

I don�t see how a mobile office can be integrated in a screen of 176 x 220 pixels on 2 inches. Probably for the most modest and stingy businessmen there might be room enough on that screen to read some short messages. The point is that for such feature there are already phones for $50 without Windows that needs high speed processors for any simple task.
