This was my 6th phone. Rather a 'downgrade'from my MotoV3XX. Battery life was terrible. Camera was a disaster. Screen view was sickening as when you view it horizontally, your eyes get confused. Try close one eye, and then the other, you'll get what I mean. Speakers was so-so. Changing ringtones was a pain in the you-know-what. Screen gets scratched by the stylus easily. Need a screen protector. This was my first touch screen and smart phone. Survived with me from July 2008 til May 2009 when I switched to Nokia 5800 XpressMusic. Pheww!...

i had the same, my god its full of problems. it used to hang very freuquently and the stylus was leaving scrathes on the screen. i have complained Hp service centre numerous times. finaly they gave me a replacement, but problems remained the same. With all fighting complaining HP gave back the money paid. If your ipaq is on warranty try fighting with HP you get your money back.

original battery it's really expensive. HP charges it's RM 200 above which it's more than the ipaq's market value... i used compatible battery, which should be less than RM 100 u may get it from any palm shop or pj digital mall or low yat plaza. compatible battery if charged with notebook USB will last 1-2 days, if normal AC charger it's shorter (tips)

i use this rw6828 model from nov 2006 and it still nice, even at the first time i regretted for purchase it. but after knowing of ROM cooking, i love this phone very much.. with a little creativity of ROM making, i would rather use this phone than a IPhone (lol).. for battery life, it quite good (last for 2 days) until it leaks on October 2009 (almost 3years usage) and now i replace it with O2 atom battery (coz the model is almost same) while i can't find original battery seller for rw 6828.

I've been using HP iPAQ RW6828 since November 2006 and had it sent to HP Service Center KL 4 times. Motherboard were replaced 3 times!! Luckily, it was still under warranty and HP honors it. I still keep the friggin barcode sticker at the back of my phone cover which reads: 2212768830, 2213329193 & 2214347396. This phone had a horrible performance, crappy camera, frequent hang, inaudible ringtone, bad speaker phone and short battery life.. Window Mobile 5.0 installed was nothing special to shout about.. The design was ok, but the interface were lagged to the bone.. I makes me regret buying it in the first place.. Until I've found myself SPB Mobile Shell, SPB Backup, SPB Phonesuite and SPB Keyboard.. These 3rd party apps really a saviour and somehow remedy my frustration towards this phone.. The bottomline is, this phone sucks big time and I just can't believe HP made it.. It makes me skeptic with HP's made handheld.. I've had it with HP's iPAQ RW6828 and I'm looking forward to purchase HTC WM powered PDA in near future..

the problem happen when u use the headphone, once u put the headphone, after u remove it still the device detect the headphone is in there... i start realize it when i turn on the radio without the earphone.. as u know u must plug in the the headset before u can turn on the radio, but the phone still detect the headphone is still inside.. and the hissing sound that u here is come from the sound of the radio... i change the jack and after that i never use the headphone again...

If this is the IPAQ messenger 510, when the call is active (someone is actually on the other end), simply press down and hold the green "call" button. Speaker phone will become active.

I've just had exactly the same problem, the ipaq forum had the answer. You have to have a compatible charger or it wont work. ipaq use special signalling of some sort to kick it in to fast charge, I happened to have another charger that did the trick. they may look similar but they are not all the same. mine wouldn't charge when in standby, the charge light should remain orange untill fully charged.hope this helps. Vik, you can never switch this phone off... (NIGHTMARE!! haha). Really. Never. Unless if you yank off its battery. You can reset it, though, by using the tip of your stylus, push it in a small hole underneath the phone between the USB and the lanyard hole.

yeah its good the only problem is the sound, it has two speakers but the volume is too weak that you cant even hear it even if its in his full volume and the second problem would be the battery, my goodness it will took you 12 hours before u can fully charge the battery, and it easily drain when u used it. so you nid to hav a spare battery. wheew

I have one of this model and I will tell you, it was the best mobile phone I ever had. Perfect size, good sound, all the features anyone can need in a mobile. The only problem was the earplug connector which I damaged it by my mistake. Otherwise I would be using it to today.

I bought this phone September 2007 & would have to be the worst choice I have ever made, the phone is awfull, low battery life, needs hard restetting every morning and sometimes again by luch time, please note that this problem was out of the box as I did not install 3rd party software at all! Speaker volume and sound quality is terrible, over priced!!!! Just as well that it has died an early death, lasted only 6 months, as I was going to kill it!! Did not even bother to get in touch with HP as this would have done my head in...I simply walked away.

My experience with this unit is a lot of problem. Here is a few tips. With car charger problem, you need to change from fast charge to slow charge then change back to fast charge, I found sometimes when I plug in the car charger it won't charge but after chaginging option under USB charging it would work. With problem on speaker, if you don't hear anything it means that the 2.5 ear plug you use is a little bit too tight, I have this problem and discovered that if I use the loosley plug it is Ok, I was fortunate to have my PDA replaced when I had the problem but only to dicover the problem did not go away apparently this problem is not for HP rw6828 only it is for other brand with the same motherboard as well, it's a poor design! Overall I enjoy using it but regret that I bought the HP product as It seems the after sale support from HP is bad, it's next to none!

This is by far the worst hp i have ever got in my life!! I will never ever get another HP phone ever again. I know they have good printers, but phone is definitely not their sector. I thought having hp phone means they can handle the technical support in LA, but apparently they cannot do that because I bought it in asia. Anyway here are the big weaknesses: - weak reception - very low volume for ringtone - very soft speaker phone - fragile stylus - soft sound in the ear - problem with the handsfree - using bluetooth wireless headset could be a problem since it sometimes gives major static - weak wife signal Good side: - small PDA - pretty good design So you still wanna get HP?? i HIGHLY suggest HTC

Hi i bought this PDA in June 2007 and till now its working fine.I heard that some people want to install Adobe Reader.Find it on this site(http://www.adobe.com/downloads)You have to look for adobe for pocket pc version 2.0.And i found also that Divx has released a version for pocket pc.Its Divx for mobile version 0.89(http://www.divx.com/mobile/requirements.php­).But i want to tell you that you need the Divx Converter if you want to convert your videos files.But i want to add need badly the serial number as the trial version is for 15 days.So anyone there who has it you are most welcome to share!!!!

Got lots of problems like Low ringing volume and also the phone gets stalled a lot which requires to me reboot the device every other day. Battery life is not good either. Basically the phone will last you a day if you also use it to listen to mp3. The sound quality using headphones playing mp3s is also very poor. I do not recommend purchasing this phone. HP hasnt even released a new rom update for this phone since Dec 2006. Poor support!!!

I've bought ipaq 6828 in late September 2007, so far not much troubles i've got through. The main weakness are the ring tones volumes too low, it didn't have mp3 ring tone for message come in, very weak radio/wifi signals reception and the digital camera didn't have brightness adjustment. Other things are okay as basic cheap level entry pocket pc phone for the beginner. RAM memories management are quite important to do at least once a day if you want to have a smooth pda experience. Always delete temporary files/history in internet explorer, stop [ close ] unused programmes, save important webpage via saving url in favorite and always saving the file in memory card option. At the beginning, the undeletable sound file that produce by sound recorder or radio recorder give an headache to me but easily being solve by stop the note programme because the sound recorder/player are inbedded in that programme. The most frustrating event was wifi connection jammed with no connecting function although all other programmes work properly, i've solve it by soft reset that mean to pull out battery. Knowing my ipaq 6828 are not the super pda around but it still the best for me to write an article and smoothly send it via e-mail. I'm also very found to write a diaries in notes programmes but sadly there's are no free .pwi viewer/writer compatible in pc format. The frustated new users or buyers of this phone please calm down and relax if your ipaq give a problems, always refers to the internet to solve the problems. My other advices, always carefully chosen the compatible file mp3/movie format that easily read and play by this phone. The pda also can play the sound file that being amplified via sound editor.

Same problem as Bacha . . . cannot charge the phone reliably. Put it on charge all night - next morning 10% charge only. Will not charge from car adapter - at best will hold charge only. From other emails, suspect that the USB connection problem is a design fault. Will be replacing it with another brand asap.

This thing is a load of rubbish with a slow CPU and lousy technical support. I have owned one of these things for about 10-12 months. The first problem that it had immediately out of the box was an intermittent connection via USB, which finally developed into no connection. This proved problematic for both data connection and charging. I tried, at my own expense, various USB cables to see if it was the cable at fault, I had the same problem. I then sent it away for repair postage costs were my responsibility. The HP agent said nothing is wrong with it and sent it back. It still did not work upon return. I repeated this procedure with same response, on the third attempt I got lucky, with the device being replaced. I guess these people don't understand the term intermittent. The next problem is the under powered CPU, try answering a phone call whilst listening to an MP3 then returning to the MP3 once you have finished with the call, it works some of the time, but mostly you have to reset the device to get the unit to sound reasonable (ie no clicks in the audio) and also to operate at �decent� speed. The next fault that this thing developed was it decides to intermittently reset itself. Once again the same 3 times to the repair agents before it was fixed. The thing has now developed a problem with the audio output for the radio and the MP3 player, which requires a reset to correct. That aside the wireless, Bluetooth, and IR operated reasonably well, if a bit slow, the IR could have had a better range. I have not tried e-mail and the internet functions on this device I guess I don�t want to be disappointed any further. Overall this device is a slow donkey, which promises a lot but fails to deliver. Also HP method of technical support and warranty support is pathetic. Being asked to connect to a device via USB to down load a patch when the thing won�t communicate illustrates this quite nicely. I guess this demonstrates what HP really thinks of its customers. I am about to throw this thing away and invest in a real device, I�ve heard nice things about the Palm devices and the Blackberry Pearl. A waste of AU$900.

You may have to turn the Wi-Fi power on the phone up a little to get the range. Also check your router for MAC Address and WEP security setup, however you should be able to enter your WEP keys when configuring a new wi-fi base station. I have never had a problem hooking up to wi-fi with any phone, however some degree of patience is required as it does take some time.

I have major problems connecting to the internet using the WIFI with this phone. It hasn't worked at all so far. It either hangs or switches off the Wifi automatically. It says it connects to my router but I cannot connect to the internet or browse any sites. I'm almost at the point of giving up on this phone.

Ramesh, 1. U can't shut down this pda. 2. Windows media pre-installed in the pda should be able to play most video format. 3. I also have the same problem, especially when taking pics at night. Unfortunately have to accept that its pic quality will never be as good as commercial digital camera.

Hi guys, I have a HP iPaq rw6828, and I am trying to access the internet via a wireless network connection. I have just given up on talking to HP as they seem to be incompetent and have never used their own products. Anyways, I have a wireless network at home, which I use with my laptop all the time. I have successfully connected my PDA to that. I get an IP address and I can ping external IP addresses and websites. However, if I open up Internet Explorer, I cannot browse to any websites. I can however, connect a network drive and play music in PocketMusic. Anyone got any ideas what I am doing wrong? dear avatar, Pda size dont matter coz professionals use pda's and many professionals wear suits with big blazer pockets so if its big no problem. The screen was and still is small. I use a pda as a phone and to make poerpoints and write documents. Try using it for that. ===it dont matter that it has a good camera and good games, if the screen is too small to serve what pda's are made for.

James, don't critics what you don't have or I doubt thet if you have used it before, the size of the screen might be small but I've tried it to the smallest font size it still looks OK for me, if you have long sighted problem(eye sight that older people have) don't critics the 6828, it's not the PDA size that have problem it's your eye sight and for your info I do started to have long sighted problem now but the font size still OK with me, about the device hang, I do have a O2 XDA IIs, O2 XDA II Mini and all those WM2003 SE Device hangs almost 4 to 5 tomes a day and this 6828 I've used it more then 6 months now it only hangs twice, for if you said yours 6828 hangs more then 2003se then you must have installed the 2003se software that are not compatible and for your info the baby won't lose your data even if the inthernal clock battery runs off try it with your device leave it 36 hour's after the external batery runs off for my advice backup your data before trying so if not you will hate your 6315 for loosing your data and now which device are better and moreover no one here like to carry a brick wherever they go

If u have the cash, then buy the biggest screen available not this. documents look crappy here, SO SMALL!!. and games are smaller, to navigate it I need a needle not stylus. wines About the sound lost after plug out the stereo earpiece was the faulty of the 1st generation board. I've the same problem too at first I got my device, but after send back to HP for board replacement now working fine. So I suggest you do the same too if your device are still under warranty period.

Hi All, This device is not bad at all, I've been using it for 6 months now, and for those who complain the ringtone was too soft, edit the ringtone lover down the low freq. by 50%, after that normalize the overall volume to 300% higher with a sound editor software such as soundedit pro. For my use of this device till now I think it hangs only not more than 3 times, for fine tuning the performance use SKTools to to optimize it, I've optimized my 6828 to performance and use poket mechanic to increase the cache size to 8mb and if you do the same, I bet you'll love your device. For activating the hands free mode during a call, press the send key for 3 to 5 seconds and to deactivate the hands free mode do the same as activating. Camara for me is good enough for my work, you can't compare this device camera with a digital camera cause this device was a PDA with the extra advantage of phone and camera build in, if you needed a fine camara go and get a digital cam. The Wifi works well and the bluetooth works well with my sony stereo bluetooth HBH-DS970 for listening to MP3 and accepting incoming or outgoing calls. For me I'll give this device a 9.5 out of 10. I just have problems with the ringing tone. it's too soft and i tend to miss calls because of this. can you advise me where to download or get louder tones? I also love photos but it seems the pictures are dark. can you help me with the settings? how can i copy my favorite photos from my pc? whenever i tend to copy photos from the pc, the program will hang up. Personally I think it is the best product in the market at this moment.Every PDA mobile have their good & bad functions.For me it is OK,so far so good. To increase your ringing sound,try to download some loud ringtones from the web as what I did.Its working well,with loud ringtones. This is the best product by HP so far..

Just got this PDA about 2 months now and its great so far as compared to O2 mini which hangs a lot. Although HP hangs but the soft reset button solves the issue unlike O2 Mini.I had my batt replace as it suddenly died off for no apparent reason. My fren had the same issue but batt was replaced and no problem so far. Every PDA (Windows based) hangs, if it does not means it not a PDA.

Hi pll, I jus read all the reviews of this PDA, i personally don't think its that bad as it has been made or said by few pple.. also i would like to know if someone could help in downloading a free software which can enhance the music files or the makes the sound louder specially while pl;aying mp3 files. There are some softwares which are available freely on the net, but i am not aware of themm. so please someone help me. The wifi works amazingly well. the sound quality is soft bit its not that bad , it actually depends ont the sound file's format and the software which is being used to play those files.

warning! i got my this unit and it was working well until i plug in the earphones to listen to my mp3s. The unit automatically diabled the speaker even when the earphones is not inserted. it is now silent as a my my goldfish. the unit thinks that the ear set is still inserted.so i end up bringing my earphones to listen to calls. i brought it back to hp service center and they replaced the motherboard. its now working but i will never use my earphones again. except from this hassle the phone is excellent. look at the hp forums. this problem is common.

If I had seen, I would have never bought it...luckily I did not read !! this phone is fanatstic, I had no problems, the call qualtiy is very good, connects very well with bluetooth hands free, excellent internet browsing speed, never hanged though working on Windows OS, I dropped the phone almost 10 times last week, still nothing happened to the phone except the front flap jumped out...BUT the camera qualtiy is too poor, it is like no camera at all...other than that there is no flaw with this device...

The HP iPAQ rw6828 is a Great Phone...... The set i bought came with 2 Batteries 2 Stylus 2 Flip Covers 1 1GB memory Card 1 Belt Pouch 1 USB Cord 1 Charger with changeable plugs @ Just Rs. 24900/-..... Compared to other phones in the market its a steal........ The phone is real smooth performer.... it takes most video formats and can easily render 640x480 res movies.........and about the battery life........its pretty good........you can easily play 8 hrs of music at a go which is equivalent to most of the Nokia or SE phones..........also you can never forget that it is a touch screen phone and is bound to use up more battery........ As far as my phone goes.....the network coverage is great..........and have had no hanging problems......as i said earlier its a smooth performer.........

I've been using rw6828 for few months & it works so far so good.Eventhough the 2M camera is bit out but all u have to do is to adjust to suit ur preference.Can't compare with digital camera outside there rite?The screen color display is perfect crystal clear,battery last longer compare others PDA phone in the market. The ringtones is bit soft but try to download louder ringtones & it work well for mine after trying few loud ringtones. HP support has been marvelous so far!

I been using 6828 for about half a year, so far so good. But the only problem with is the phone function, little too quite and reception suck. In addition is it is very difficult to use when you try to drive in the same time unlike a regular cell phone

I am getting sick to death and close to maximla frustration point trying to reduce my storage memory. I have almost no storage memory left, the guides say nothing but move or remove files and programs, I've spent hours and hours and even when I remove something I find I'm reverting back to minimal memory, apparently without doing anything. Lots of proramns like voice commander can't be removed. I can't even find any sensible HPiPaq help or help line

Hi. Well read opinions about HP 6828, i recently bought 6828 limited adition. It's not that bad, yes some feature like syc with nokia contacts and uploading softwares from PC to Device are not still used. Anyway, after some time i'll be more honest to give u my opinion. Someone asked that how to use MP3 tunes as a message tune, it's simple, just copy any MP3 tume to your "windows folder" in my device and then in setting select the option "sounds & notification" in notification u can asign that mp3 tune to your incoming msg. select that option from event drop down menu. it's easy. Sometimes options are there and we don't know how to use it. Only this that's not good about it is poor power back but obviously it's juts not a mobile phone it's a PDA. Any other query pls feel free to contact at [email protected] mark HP6828 in subject line pls. Yes can someone tell me how to download and run Adobe acrobat in This PDA ??

ive been using a second hand 02 xda mini for 8 months now and its fantastic.with regards to it, turning off after a few seconds, there is a setting which you can choose from.almost all the features has settings on it.it very seldom hangs up as well.i jst realized that this hp model is similar to my o2.only diff is that the hp model has 2 mp cam and a wifi.i a interested in making this purchase.hope to read more comments on this site.

I can confirm the sound issue, resolved by a reset, but very annoying from a phone functionality pov. Battery life seemed rather short but if i turn off bluetooth/wireless when it was not needed, kept the screen display as low as possible and made sure to kill any programs and lock the phone, battery life was substantially increased. Downers: no 3G, sound issues, hanging apps, No activesync over wireless, expensive. Uppers: Wireless networking good, minimal activesync issues, Bluetooth compatibility ok, relatively light for its size, Usb Charger.

Do not buy this phone, its a piece of junk. There is a serious fault with the headphone input jack which renders the device without sound. I sent to HP to fix under warranty, but same problem occurred next time I used the headphones. I have now dumped it.

Problematic since day 1. Contacted HP few days after getting the phone. Problems are 1. discoloured display 2. misaligned screen, sometimes solvable by repeated resets, sometimes not. 3. vibrating display HP very simply reply is: flash your bios. I flashed. Din help. More problems resulted, the last straw is the lost of phone function. Not able to use the phone function because there is always no signal. Called HP again. HP promised to call back but never. Called HP again. HP promised to call back but never. Called HP again. HP promised to call back but never. Pissed, I threatened to write to the press. Finally HP relented. Instead of insisting me to send in my unit, ( I crapped HP for wanting to make me send in their brand new crappy unit for them to check and service. The least they could do is to collect it from me and give me a replacement phone. But they only collected my phone after my repeated complains and threats to write to the press about their services, or rather, disservices) they collected my unit from my place. Didn't know the 1to1 exchange policy of 14 days start from the day you purchased (online), not the day you got your hands on the phone. Hence if the courier took 7 days to deliver you effectively are left with 7 days. HP insisted the effective date starts from the purchase date. What the F. Now, the crappy unit is still with me, with all the problems intact. HP said when the replacement unit arrived, they will exchange it with me. 0 points for customer service. 0 points for product quality. Overall, disappointing.

Very sadly, I received this phone as a (new) warranty replacement after 4 months of begging HP to repair or replace my previous AU$800 phone, it works well and looks great EXCEPT that it locks up 4 - 5 times a day and I don't know it has locked up. Until people start screaming for me to answer the messages that have gone to voice mail as the phone has stopped working and I have been unaware. Very unhappy, I will never buy another HP PDA or phone product

I've had this phone for ~ 6mths now & can't say that I'm overly impressed, having said that I've no one to blame other than myself for not doing enough research. The main issues that I am unable to reconcile myself with are; 1. Very poor battery life. 2. The inbuilt earpiece speaker in the phone is quite quiet & hard to listen to in noisier environments. 3. The phone has a very weak vibration function when ringing (I often miss calls when I am in noisier environments). 4. The colour screen is unable to be viewed outdoors easily. 5. Broke my stylus - $50 bucks to replace after finally managing to find my way around HP�s pathetic website. 6. Unlocking the phone requires the use of a stylus or slender fingers. 7. Supplied belt clip case fell to bits < 3wks. 8. Normal phone calls involve quite a laborious process. 9. The phone often requires resetting. 10. The phone isn�t 3G compatible & no one in Aust looks like going to edge therefore I am limited to GPRS or wireless. 11. Support techs are pretty lame, my IT guys where able to give me much better answers to my questions. 12. It stopped 4 no apparent reason on day & wouldn�t respond to any buttons (even start up).

i want to comment on the guy who said ppl should not buy this phone coz of the speakers. the guy was complaining that the speakers are not loud enough. as for me, i think there is something really interesting about the speakers. the speakers are soft (no doubt) but even if u go far from the phone while playing music, you will still be able to hear the speakers. and i really like the sound quality. i think this is a really nice phone

REPENT the dreadful day (30/09/06)when I bought this phone! For a person using Nokia all thru- this was the worst brand and phone change I could have dreamt of and worse- it is not even 6 months that have passed by me buying this dreadful piece, HP has discontinued this prodcut model on its website!!! I feel more disgusted with myself since I really never thought after paying $780-I would get this kind of a product. Believe me, it has a problem in every area- the speakers, the FM radio, the sound quality. This is great feature packed phone - there are so many features in small trendy phone. Ideal for those who want all the features of PDAs but don't want to sacrifice trendiness and small size of mobile phones. The only negative point i can think of is no built in keyboard - but that won't trouble you much if you don't use it extensively for e-mails

WARNING, DO NOT BUY THIS PHONE: I purchased 2 of these units for my company from a Harvey Norman store. One unit is borderline ok, the other is pathetic. The phones both echo, callers generally hang up, the battery life is very poor, and to make it worse the HP call centre is overseas, you end up with a person who has limited English. The main issue I have is that they have had the phone for 4 weeks now, and they cannot even give me a date as to when I will get it back, so I can imagine you can work on a 6 week turnaround if you are lucky. This is my first and last PDA phone, I would never buy one again, nor would I ever recomend this phone to anyone. Everytime there is a fault HP advise a firmware upgrade, you go through thr trouble of doing all this and nothing changes, call back, try the firmware upgarde again. NO THANK YOU, NOT THIS PHONE NOT EVER AGAIN, AND CERTAINLY NOT A HP, WHAT A DISAPPOINTMENT

Used hp6828 since nov2006. Former phone SE W810i. Opinion:--> pros: - good&loud sound as a phone - with good apps (like spb things) it's realy working fine - wm5 need to be improved cons: - cannot use arrows to select & dial phone numbers. Need to use finger on screen everytime. - battery su_cks big time. Everyday charging with not so long usage of functions - headset provided really poor quality - cannot be used as a mp3 player due to very poor music quality. My former W810i is uncomparable better as a mp3 player compared with this hp6828 Deserve 7 or 8 /10.

I have problem in trying to sync contacts from the IPAQ to my Home PC. I have installed the Outlook 2002 come with the product CD. But when I started the Outlook, I got 'Unable to open Outlook server' Guess I must fix the Outlook first before I can Sync contacts ?? But How ? I already have Outlook Express installed and running, is it still necessary to install the Outlook ?? Anyone can help on this ??

I've been using this pda for around 3 weeks. 1.Battery life is not as expected even with bluetooth & wifi been turn off. Average phone useage around 50mins/day, I need to charged everyday.........REALLY does not match the battery spec. 2. Never seen 2mp camera performed so bad, my experience with Nokia 7610 (1mp) much more than expected, infact 7610 perfomed better than 1.3mp cameras. As per HP customer care, need to update my ROM, will comment later after evaluate the result.

I have 2700 contacts in Outlook 2003. After active sync Outlook contacts are transferred to the phone contacts. When searching for a contact, sorted company wise, it takes more than 60 seconds to search, can anyone let me know why it is taking so long and is there any solution to solve this problem? This does not happn if the search is done "name wise" By the way this happens each time contact is started. It takes too long to search for a contact. Can anyone help me?

I used this PDA for more than six months. This PDA is quite good (remember to update the rom). I find the battery life quite all right. I use it for 45 min and my power drops about 10%. HP service support is also very good.

okay, heres what i think: im not really an ipaq 6828 owner yet, but its one of my christmas list. just recently i was in 1 of the store that distributes ipaqs and my eyes caught a glimpes on this unit that made me stayed for a while and checked it out. im a PDA user for quite some time now and ive been thru a lot of manufacturers. anyway, ive been reading some of your threads and it seems that everybody has the same problem all the time. although i dont blame users (especially those who are "buy this coz its new, eventhough i dont know what it does"). first of all, please dont buy gadgets that you perfectly have no idea what it does. some of these gadgets have something in store that more than meets the eye. you just have to know what you want or else youll end up not using it. so to answer some of your queries, wheres what i think: *battery life: yes, its true battery life should be the 1st priority of all things. what good could one gadget be if its not running. first of all, one should read first the manual before setting things up with your unit (this is the golden rule of all electronic appliance). youll find out that theres an instruction there that requires us to recharge our batteries to a given no. of hours before using it. a lot of phone battery die out fast becoz they miss this one. other than that, you can also minimize the brightness of your screen, this also helps a lot. theres also an option there that shuts off the screen even while your talking to somebody, you might want to check that out also. if you want to compare between other PDA, you might also want to know that the bigger the screen is the faster it eats up the battery. *Program memory every new release, a manufacturer always comes up with a better capacity. actually, this unit its so bad at all. you just have to know how to go around with it. you might want to surf more regarding third party softwares. this helps a lot. theres a software (i think im not allowed to mention it) that lets you turn off a program everytime you exit. this totally stops the application and gives more room in your ram. just keep on searching on the internet for some tips and tricks its all there. *music i red somebody had trouble with this and made him return his unit to the manufacturer. the problem is so simple actually. yes its true we all want a quality sound and its greatly achieved if you have a quality software that goes along with it. try using other third party applications. youl find out that the sound quality you were looking for is just a matter of adjusting its settings. try it out. in conclusion. we should all remember that when we choose the right gadget, know about it more, check it out first before buying. comepare it to other. in that way, you could save a lot more cheers

I hope will release something like O2 Orbit form with all that GPS and radio GPS, but equiped with better processor (520 MHz i suppose) and battery life (1.800 mAh is a logic choice)

If u want to save the incoming call Nr to the contact that already exist in your phone book, you will need a pen to write down the Nr first and then open the existing contact and dd the new Nr to the existing contact because RW6800 can't add the Nr to the existing contact. Is that nobody in HP think about that and care about the several bugs in 6800 series and release an upgrading rom for us the desperated user ??????

compared to O2 and Dopod, rw6828 is a slow though specs are almost the same. try opening windows directory and you will see the difference straight away.

Not very impressed with this PDA that doubles as a phone. Speakers, headphones, sync, speed, battery life - all ordinary. Two hands to unlock and make a call - a pain. I'm using my old Nokia 6310i as my phone and this a PDA. Internet downloads $$$ so wouldnt bother with that either. No more HP for me.

I've just bought a iPAQ rw6828 recently, but have been having problems with the battery lasting just a day! Anyone having battery problems? How long does your battery last? Be fair!! PPC/PDA user should know how to quit the program as BT said. However, I hate most of applications don't have a 'Close' choice!!!!!!!! my god~~~ For me, PPC must function as a PC but limited ability 1) running at least 2 to 3 applications concurrently e.g. playing music, downloading something and viewing a document 2) really stable IE 3) minimized memory leakage problem etc.... Otherwise, it is useless!!!!

Leon, it is normal for Windows bases PPC to hv previous applications/programmes running on the background even if you hv closed them b4 entering another application. You hv to go to Start,System,Memory,Running Programs,Stop All. If u don't, your memory space will keep reducing and this will eventually slow down your PPC. I'm using DOPOD 818 Pro which is also Windows based.

I am from Singapore, and I bought the RW6828 three days ago to replace my 2-years-old O2 XDA IImini which broke down recently. Up to then I have never had any problem with the O2 mini, so it was perhaps this reason that I was so over-confident that I did not check the unit properly before leaving the mobile shop. My mistake. At home, upon testing the music playback using WMP, to my horror I can hear a moderately loud background hissing noise over the music I was playing, using both the supplied headset as well as my Sony Nude Ex earphones with an adapter. One key reason I purchased the phone is to listen to music on-the-go (mainly instrumental songs), but the overall experience with this unit so bad it's worse than listening to our local classical radio station with my cheap freebie FM portable radio (with static, noise and all)! I am not sure if this is a design issue or if I happen to have purchased a defective unit. I immediately went back to the shop where I purchased the phone, but the salesmens were unfriendly and refuse to help, even tried hard-talk tactics on me. They even gaved me the wrong address for the HP service center -good thing I actually knew where it is! Anyway, the unit is now with HP's Service Center for checks, but already according to them the noise is "normal"! They suggested that if I lower the external volume control on the headset, and at the same time increase the volume setting on the PDA, this will helps to reduce the noise. However, this solution doesn't work for me: I find the supplied headset of poor quality and horrible for listening to music. Instead, I have been using several other big/small earphones/headsets (incl my Sony Nude Ex)as well as one portable active speaker Sony SRS-T55 with my O2 mini, and ALL of them do not have an external volume control! Anyway, to keep the long story short, since audio/sound is a subjective subject, I am half-expecting HP to return to me with a "sorry-no-fault-found" verdict. So if music playback quality is important to you, I strongly advice u to test the unit with a soft intrumental song to see if the noise level is disturbing to you, before paying for the unit and leaving the shop.

Dear Yitwo The camera lens on these devices (including the Atoms etc) are very small - and as such, to get a good picture you need a bright subject to photograph. Try taking some photos outside on a well lit subject, and you notice a big difference

got mine last july06 and still have no problems. just got irritated at first because of the slow processing but if you want to speed-up, download softwares that will overclock the processor. i've done it and works smoothly. The pocketMusic slows the processing,the overclocking software helps on this. Speakers are good, not intended for loud music playing though...overall, i say 8.5/10.

I've been using IPAQ RW6828 for less than a month and now there is no sound coming out of speakers. Sound comes through fine in headset. Tried HP Customer Care but all the support consultant can help me was to try soft and hard reset which I have tried but didnt fix the problem. He then asked me to courier to HP with DHL (or something similar) and registered on my own expense. I spent so much on the IPAQ itself and now I have to pay extra for the IPAQ quality problem. So much for Customer Care. He said he will get back to me in 24 hrs but still havent heard from him since. Hope HP will improve both quality on the IPAQ and customer service.

I gave up on HP productS three years back. When their PDA range came out I was so eagar. Then everything start sucking up...My advise....dun buy HP. Just another US company making a fool out of everyone. When my batt died I called....the helpline say the dun support it anymore....they advise go online and look for batt. What a load of crap

Whilst i have been very happy with my xda mini II i have been looking for something better and i thought i had found it with the rw 6828. now that ive used it, there are some good features on it but guys you have failed miserably with the battery power and the time it takes to say switch between 2 dates on the calender is up to 20 seconds somethines. i cant run a business like that. i'm handing ther unit back going back to my origianl XDA. i honestly thought there'd be something better by now. Shame.

this is a really nice PDA to have..well initially i had decided to go for the O2 atom and finally bought this which is same as the atom..i really like it's make and features.but sometimes it tends to become too slow that i have to soft reset.. :( but overall i wud rate it 8/10

This HP model loses out to Dopod 818 pro. Both are about the same form factor and size. Both have same price tag. But the main difference is Dopod 818 has quad bands. I travel alot overseas and sometimes to Japan. The fourth band comes handy. Sound quality too is better.

I've had my unit for about 6 weeks now. It's great as a PDA but yesterday I had a problem with the sync function that I still have not been able to resolve. The help file and manual do not address the "synchronization error" message that I keep getting. This is irritating the hell out of me because I need to do a sync every day. So any help would be appreciated. The other features: (1) lousy (and I mean absolutely terrible) phone reception and lousy connection for both myself and the other party (2) the camera is only OK (3) the earphones suck big time. When I first saw them I thought someone had made a mistake, the quality and feel was so bad. They don't even fit properly in the ears. (4) the documentation that came with it could really be improved. I find myself resigned to having to visit user forums like this one whenever I have a problem. Overall rating: I would give it 6.5 out of 10. HP should really get its act together. This is the kind of rating you might expect from a less prestigious brand. Keep this up and HP will find itself classed among those other brands pretty soon, if it isn't happening already.

a great fone ... if not for its problems. 1. when on loudspeaker = other party hears mobile phone interference 2. Alarms, ringtones repeats but the gap is too long 3. i had a main board problem which caused the clock to be slower than everything else 4. Appointments from PC sync but without the appointment notes. from PDA to PC is ok. 5. lagging here and there 6. Wifi is only B, uses up alot of battery 7. reception is not so good 8. Cant SMS while driving. You really need two hands to use the fone 9. speakers are too soft, as the HP service crew said that its built in to the main board. if its your first HP, i wouldnt recommened it. Buy something else. Apart from that, if you really need a PDA phone like me, then be prepared for the problems and make sure you know the address of the HP service center because you're sure to be there at some point.

My experience with this device: - Camera flickering, have to reset over and over again to temporary solve the problem. I've even tried to hard reset the device but yet still have the problem. - Caller cannot hear clearly when using their bundled ear piece.

This was recommended highly at the time I purchased it last month, I upgraded to HP from a O2 XdaII. The few problems I see are the system get stuck and its quite slow at times and the 2M camera is useless perhaps the software change might give some improvement.

Hi, Just bought this piece approx. 2 weeks ago. So far, I'm quite happy with it except: 1. Camera is not up to the market standard..correction..way below market standard. I'd rather not have it all! Buck up HP! 2. Speaker phone is too soft. I guess the 2 nicely metal caged speakers are gimmick. The previous HP PDA phone I had was the 6320, & I used it for 2 weeks because the speaker sound is too soft. The way I see it, there's not much difference with this unit! For RM2588 in Malaysia, HP should give more than this to the consumer. Any means to improve this? Beside that, Windows Mobile 5 is great in this piece and it's very stable!

I have changed this phone twice and the third phone have problems too but I have given up. First was the camera, the second one has icons disappeared after running some application and the third phone has problems charging! This is my first HP PDA and will be my last. If there are so many problems with this model, I seriously think that they shouldn't have launched it. They are wasting my time and money! Bought this ipaq rw6828 and have been loaded with problems and problems. Its for you guys, who I want to warn against this phone. Its just terrible. Earpiece failed , then the microphone too and the camera was horrible. HP should immediately take out some software & distribute it free to customers who bought this phone - they owe them real bad. HP - better buck up (with this quality of product), no chance of survival in this mobile market. Iam still waiting for support from the HP guys, as I have informed them my phone problem, but no proper initiative/customer support noticed. By the way, this is my first HP purchase, maybe last too.

I was also deciding between this ipaq and the atom, before choosing the ipaq. There are more similarities than differences. After all, it is made in the same factory. Has exactly the same hardware, battery, dimensions, weight, camera, screen,etc. The main differences are the branding, and some of the software (but functionally equivalent). More specific differences, ipaq has: - Silver colour of case - 2 soft keys - protective flip cover (2 included) - inclusion of a pouch (but no extra stylus) - voice command function software included Main factors why I chose the ipaq: - the above mentioned differences - initial bugs in the atom (so far no major bugs in this ipaq). - brand loyalty to hp ipaq. Price is not a factor as even though the recommended price of the ipaq is cheaper, discounting of the atom (around for a year now) would bring it down to the same level. So overall, it comes down to personal tastes, these two can basically be considered clones.

Gone through 2 hp rw6828s already, the first was exchanged for the second only after a few days as the IR was dead on arrival. From these two units, one thing become very apparent: very variable quality control, mostly poor. The 1st unit: IR not working, but the fit of the plastic case and also back battery cover were very good. The 2nd unit: IR worked, but the case is appalling, creaks and twists, battery cover too easy to remove (1st unit actually required a great deal of force to remove). Pro's: presence of the 2 soft keys, protective flip cover, silver colour, continuity of hp features (for previous users of hp ipaq's). Reasonably stable software, main frustrating issue problem has been the included pocketmusic program, crashes after playing 2 to 3 songs continuously. Battery life and camera adequate, no complaints. Con's: very narrow viewing angles of the screen, although bright enough. Processor could be faster, but only apparent when switching between programs, otherwise bearable. Build quality issues. Conclusion: hp should have stuck with HTC products and not switch to Quanta (also makes O2 atom), a new start and inexperienced, degrading the hp brand. Was very happy with 2 previous hp ipaqs, that's why I purchase this rw6828, now not so sure will buy a 4th in the future.

I think Im the 1st one who own this phone! The phone still have many bugs. Ringer is too low, signal is very weak, some problem with the device.exe and some more files! After 2 hours talking, the phone starting to get weird!?! The screen is nice, bright and sharp. Camera is ok too, but is not as good as 2mp of sonyericsson. Talked to HP, and they said there wont be an update firmware for another 4-5 months. I think Im gonna switch to O2 ATOM in the mean time!

Please make sure you check the item very very very very carefully before you walk out of point of sales with headaches that costed you USD 630. I bought this unit in Jakarta. They are giving 1 GB miniSD card plus EXIM brand screen protecter with the purchase. Although you have to manually cut the Screen protecter to fit this new small size screen.Ipaq 6828's price is USD 630. But the camera on this model was worse than any 100$ phone on market with camera. We are talking about HEWLETT PACKARD. Cant they give a decent camera on a gadget which professionals are paying USD 600+ to use for their business. For Gods sake, it is not a budget phone made by a 3rd rate company. Wake up HEWLETT PACKARD. I also would like to your attention that this piece looks like a toy made of cheap plastic. So what deal do we get with this mobile. Where is the plus. Any $400 - $500 gadget on market can beat the shit out of this model. As a user's duties to warn any other user, I have put forward my opinion to you friends.
