I've the HP iPaq voice messenger. It came with my HP laptop in the offer. It's worked fine for 3 years. But now the area where you enter the SIM card is damaged so I can't use it for phone calls. And the scroll button doesn't work anymore so there's pretty much no use for the phone

I bought this iPaq in March, 2012, for a bulk price of euros 40,00. Brand new, in box with accessoires. Reason: this iPaq was out of production, nevertheless, I had a money back guarantee of 1 year (GSM dealer, of course not HP). I am very content about this HP smartphone. During my holidays on Gran Canaria, my notebook crashed; all the necessary functions (mail, sms, calls) I did with the iPaq without any problem. I consider this handy and small apparatus as a "mini pc". Screen is of course small, but with a good quality of sharpness and colors. Also this iPaq makes very reasonable pictures with a normal resolution of 3.1 pixels. Again, because this iPaq is out of production, I think it is logic that support is not given anymore by HP. Nowadays, it is a little bit old fashioned GSM, but I am fully content with it - specially regarding the price. There are still a lot of companies who offer this iPaq brand new for very reasonable prices.

The two softkeys are touch sensitive (very sensitive) - and during a call one of them is actually assigned as the mute key. So during a call your face will touch that key and then put the phone on mute. You can turn mute off again - just touch the button again. Its a TERRIBLE design mistake they made. Just make sure that when you call, the lower part of the screen does not touch your face. Or use a headset. I really dont know how it got released with that issues, it drove me crazy till I found out what the problem was.

this is an amazing phone by HP. It is amazingly swift considering it is a windows phone. It is very user friendly if you know how to use it right. Accepted that battery back up is on the lower side. Have been using it for past 3 months and haven't faced a problem yet. keeping in mind that this is a windows mobile smart phone it is adcuaable not to play around with your phone or else you will end up deletubg some file and phone starts malfunctioning. It�s the marvelous item from hp, looks nice and the camera result along with display quality is amazing. Office and PDF is such a great thing in it. Wifi is very speedy. The lack is in the battery timings. Miserable battery time its having. All other things are uncompareable.

Ya, that touch mute design flaw is actually shocking. Did they get people to test it wearing masks or something? I really dont understand how it could have passed teste like that. Also, the keypad lights flood the display, esp if the display is showing a black screen. Makes the fone look REALLY cheap. Dont even get me started on call quality. The UI is great, I would have so loved it on a non qwerty candybar.

The worst phone ever. Its a shame because it could have been great. Its packed with features(Wifi,3G,GPS) and is very cheap, Windows 6.1 isn't a looker but is very powerfu with plenty of good apps out there GoogleMaps,YouTube,Bing, Kinoma Player,Opera Browser, YomoMedia is great! etc. Also runs most Java apps except Bluetooth. The phone is full of bugs, freezes randomly, the screen wont come on at times, doesn't boot up sometimes with SD card inserted. Some bugs are fixed with the HP patches. The track-pad can be uncomfortable to use is some applications (maps/browser) because you cant hold down left and right and you have to swipe hundreds of times to scroll. The keys are uncomfortable for typing, you end up pressing several at once, and they are slippery so nails don't work well. Because of the form and size of the phone its difficult(impossible!) to type with one hand. Huge design flaw when you make a call! The left touch button becomes the mute button, meaning that as soon as you touch the phone to your face the call is muted. I though it was broken for a while. Battery seems fine most of the time, I think some applications can drain it though. Also wifi/blue-tooth will kill the battery, this is to be expected.

Hi can somebody help me fix the problem in my phone. Actually my phone was functioning very well until I used the headphone. After using the headphone the sound doesn't work anymore unless the headset is attached in the phone. There's no more sound coming out if there's no headset. Hey all - i live in the uae and currently these fones are dirt cheap coz HP was giving them away with certain model laptops. So you can get an unused second hand for less than 200 us dollars. But my question is, how good or bad is that optical touch navigator over the traditional D pad. And also, how is the scrolling on ling contacts/ call records lists. The HTC snap, for example, had a track ball but if you scroll down 3 times in quick succession, it initiates a kind of "kinetic scroll" where the screen just keeps scrolling automatically till you get to what you want. I have a Samsung i550w which also has a track ball but doesn't have that feature so if i want to go far down a list i have to scratch at the trackball till my thumb is numb or revert to the keyboard in the case of contacts list - VERY ANNOYING. I've found the call records on Symbian s60 way too inadequate, thats why i want a winMo fone, but i remain unconvinced by touch screens - so this is essentially the only fone for me. Full qwerty is a bit cramped for my big fingers.

I had so many problems with this phone, the usual. Locking up, poor bluetooth quality, poor handset earpiece quality (Australian Version FB142AA#ABG). I installed all the relevant patches from HP AU website, still same problems. Had almost given up until I found a ROM update for the UK version. Nothing else to lose so I flashed it with the Vodafone branded UK ROM. Been a week now of constant use & not a single lock-up, sound quality improved. Overall 200% better than before. I suggest anyone using this phone with problems try the UK ROM upgrade at: VF UK branded (meaning it will only create logo to start-up & shutdown). Small price to pay to get phone back in working condition.... BTW, I am a HP Australia employee...

Yes, Serena, You can go to setting, Adaptxt Options then turn prediction option off. I' still have many problems with this HP. Always suddenly shout down. dosen't work in some areas and many problems....

The battery life is terrible. Even the extended one. The signal is rather weak. The speaker is lousy. The screen is very good. The GPS is working very well. The device freezes during boot even with the HP patch installed. Wait for a software upgrade. Without it, DON'T buy this. It's very nice but you will have a nerve breakdown, if HP doesn't fix the bugs. Especially the battery life.

you have option of switching text between multitap and t9. you go it settings and it should be located as a second last option probably on 3rd page.

Dear 5 days ago I bought one HP iPAQ Voice Messanger from HP dealer in Kuala Lumpur. Every thing is well and exactly match with my expectations. But when I wanted to send SMS I faced with problems. I can't send short message, I tried to set phone options in setting part and many times I entered Message Centre Number into this field, but after DONE, no thing change. Also I can't send SMS after this operation which I made many times till now. Other options such as Call Waiting / Call Forwarding also dosn't work and handset prompt me can't do operation. I know very well how to work with this handset because it is same as my Qtek handset which was SmartPhone. Now, please help me to find solution for this becasue Service provider also doesn't know about this problem. I love my handset and I don't want to give up. Jack, dont compare this phone with HTC Touch HD or Touch Pro. They (Touch HD or Pro) are WinMo Pro and much much expensive.

Your technology is very limited. This phone was good if you introduced last two years. HTC is the leading phone in new technologies applied using WinMo. My grand father likes this phone, but all youths love HTC Touch HD or Touch Pro.

I've been trying all sorts of handsets recently which can: Sync Email from our Exchange server (can't get Symbian to work), is easy to type short Emails with, isn't too bulky and works with my BMW bluetooth. This is the first for a long time which ticks all of the boxes. The center finger sensitive button takes a little getting used to but once there it seems 'sweet'

its got everything the htc s740 has gt but in an all round neater package. if like me u swear by WMSE then this is the best. have been trying to get one for last 6 weeks in UK but they've not been distributed yet,v soon tho. if u want T.S. go for the data messenger! will review it as soon as it comes. my ny worry is the blackberry style keypad, will have to get used to it after always using standard layout keys

Since the beginning of barstyle smartphones with HSDPA 7,2 support this is the second one without a giant keyboard. The other one is the Samsung i200. Light, real numeric keyboard, WM 6.1, no power-sucking touchscreen. This one has right now any competition! Hate to say it but: "good work HP, will probably get one"

News reports from various sites indicate there are no plans to release this in the US. Anybody know why? Does HP think US consumers aren't worthwhile or aren't clever enough to use their new devices? If they release it here, I'd jump in line to get the voice messenger. The VM fits a segment that current has no competitors - compact smartphone with real buttons and all the communications features a traveller needs. Just what is up with HP? Their consumer and small-business division seem about as in-tune with the market as a herd of constipated wildebeest are with sub-atomic particle physics (no insult intended to the wildebeest comparing them to HP consumer/smb teams).
