  • Huawei failed to keep this device updated for 2 years. When Oreo was launched, the mate 8 wasn't 2 years old. Yet I think only the chinese version got an oreo update. Mine certainly didn't. Will vote with my wallet and won't buy another huawei.

  • I had this phone for 2+ years now. Was good back then, still very good now. No issues, no complains. Still a good performer in today's standard. Recently i've added a Class 10 A1 128mb microsd into it to have more space. Although it is still on Android 7 EMUI 5.0.1, its ok. Download Huawei Themes app and go crazy with it. Still looks good.

  • I bought my Mate 8 from China and I already have Android 8.0.0 and EMUI 8.0 about 3 month. It's a great company that think about its customers. For instance Sony Z5 Premium that announced in the same time have only Android 7. Sony is a big disappointment for the last 3 years, minimum.

  • As per official statement Oreo will be available in next couple of weeks but as per my experience from Mate 7 & Mate 8 they normally get updates in June/July of every year. Now Mate 7 stucked with 6.0 while Mate 8 is at 7.0 but will get 8.0 till June/July

Those who wants to get the full update and solve battery issues with the emui 5.0.1 on all models, please huawei firmware finder from playstore and it will give you the most recent update available for your model or region and also gives you tutorials on how to update it via ota. Mine was stuck with emui 5.0 with bags and after I used it to update it, the problem had been solved. Good luck

  • Mate 8 is much better than Mate 9 in terms of performance and primary camera. yesterday I received an update of EMUI Version 5.0.1 and it has fixed a lot of bugs, battery performance has improved, phone operating speed is just the best after the update. Mate 8 L09 is the gadget to purchase.

  • Factory reset does not change it to Android 6; rather it's a software issue. Take it to a phone shop, there an expert would do it under an hour.

  • There might be an app messing with it. Go to Settings > Permissions > Your Location and uncheck every single one which you don't need. I'm a complete newbie so that might not be the issue but its worth checking.

  • I was facing not charging problem after uograding to nougut. I upgraded to nougut and my mobile was not connecting to pc and charging stopped after 5 minutes of charge. I did restart my phone, then again 5 minutes recharge and stopped. I was unable to access internal storage via PC. I did factory reset but problem was still there. Eventually, i rolled back to marshmallow, and things are fine now. Properly charging and can access internal storage through PC. It is a bug in nougut. I guess drivers were not properly installed. I will try one more time if things get better.

  • i update nougat and it was working well but after some days another update release about battery enhancing and some other battery performance . but its result was totally opposite , cause after update new update it become heating up continuously, again i formate it and analyse all application one by one and i found that its own application name is phone manager was using its battery . when i delet the data of this application it become normal again . but it is not a solution because i do this on daily or after two days for better performance

  • I upgraded to nougut but my mate 8 wasn't charging after updating to nougut. So i had to roll back to marshmallow. Now it is working fine. Charging properly. I think it is a bug. I googled this issue but found nothing. I don't know why this happened to mine.

  • As I have used it for about couple of weeks. Set is good in almost all departments. Good battery life. No lags. Super fast performance. Bad thing is battery wore out in 1 and half year. Service center won't just replace battery. They asked to change panel which cost much more than battery of course. I got it replaced with local repair shop though. My suggestion if you are looking for a long life phone. This is not for you. If you use any phone for 6 months then get it changed then it is a superb phone. Smooth gaming experience. Super camera.

  • I bought Mate 8 recently as an emergency replacement for my LG G3, with not much expectation except for the longer battery life (already know it have 4000mah battery) considering the price is quite cheap here in Malaysia- at that time I didn't know the phone released earlier in 2016, one half of a year ago but has been heavily discounted. My, how this phone exceeded my expectation. Not only the battery last longer than I expected with around 5 hours screen on time (with 2-3 hours spent on playing Mobile Legend), I can take it off the charger in the morning and still have around 40-50% left when I go home at night after some moderate to heavy usage. It also put similarly priced phone to shame in term of performance. Launching and switching between apps are really quick, at least for every core apps such as phone dialer and messages while heavier app such as camera will take a few seconds but once it load, switching between camera and other app is fast. Oh, it can handle popular mobile games smoothly too. My recent favorite Mobile Legend doesn't encounter any noticeable graphics slowdown issue even after playing for more than 2 hours. Overall if you're in the market for USD300 (or equivalent) budget phone, this is the one to get. But depends on where you live, it may be hard to find now.

Metal build is great because I use all of my phones without case and I have dropped it at least 15-20 times. I has lots of damage, but it works perfect and the screen survived everything. So, I know it is very durable y friend uses 6s Plus for similar period of time, also without case, and his phone has worn out on the sides, which is not the case with Mate 8. Also, performance is smooth. There is no lag, never, nothing. It is fast, responsive, never " freezes", never slows down. Of course, you need to optimize it, turn off all the unnecessary stuff that you don't use etc. Screen is big (6 inch, very sharp, colors are accurate and I can't see the point of putting QHD on 6" diagonal. Ok, VR is a real reason, but in this stage of development this techonolg is still a gimmick. It's fun for a few days, but later you get bored using VR ser on your head. So, I believe that Huawei made a smart decision sticking with Full HD. Battery life on this phone is amazing. I work on TV station and I am a power user. My screen is never dark because I use screen brightness at 70% + all the time. Whatever I do, I simply cant believe how good is the battery. My friend who is not a power user charges it once in 3 days. Camera is good, very good for tips, tourism, selfies, but is not great. Camera is like VW Passat. Good, has everything, drives good, looks good but is not good as (let's say) Mercdes CLS. At the end, this phone is top, top class. Only needs waterprofing which is a very smart addition.

  • i agree with most of the points u mentioned but only flaw i find in this phone after 1 year of usage is sound.. without earphones loud speaker is not loud enough.. although with earphones this deficiency can be masked. everything else is good.. battery timing is superb. phone's performance is surprisingly improved after its update to nougat.. after all one cannot be disappointed after buying this phone.. my only concern is that it may not be updated to android O.. :(

  • I purchased my Mate 8 in March 2017. Although there was a newer model, I was looking for the FM Radio as a way to save data vs TuneIn Radio or other online options. No regrets at all. It has upgraded to Android 7. Everything exceeded my expectations. It has an excellent battery, great screen resolution, fast processor and all necessary 3G and 4G bands I need when traveling.

I haven't experienced any bug till now so everything is very smooth, also I haven't experienced any battery problems. So the update made my mate 8 just like the mate 9 with the new EMUI 5.0 . So after all I'm very happy with new the update.

  • I was using this phone exactly one year and I had upgraded from EMUI 4.1 to EMUI 5.0. After upgraded, my phone was hang and cannot turn off the phone only show the "Huawei Logo". When I went to service centre, they said PCBA / Motherboard was death. Gonna charge thousand plus if I wanna to repair it because I just out of warranty. I really disappointed with this phone.   • I sort of look at not being able to "one hand it" when texting as a "SAFETY" feature...I'm less likely to even attempt to text and drive, because you really can't do it one handed...unless you use the shrink the screen mode ;)

  • If you are in high end graphic intensive games, I guess it might lag a little, but, if you are like me that uses it as a phone, text, email, web, mp3's, camera, you will enjoy it. I'm stock firmware, still on 6.0 and it works just fine and has a great battery life. This is my 2nd Huawei phone. My first was a Mate2, and I ran it over 2 years and never had one problem with it. It's the reason I bought the 8 in November. I waited until the 9 was released and the price dropped to almost 1/2 of what the 8 was when it came out. Great value, for my use.

  • But is easy if you know how. :). Put your hand in a position as if showing someone the "OK" and press the power button and volume down vertically with nails rather than the cheekbones! Hold pressed for a second or two, you will see that it is easy :).

  • Yeah, you are right. Typing on S7 Edge is difficult for some people. Once I gave S7 Edge to my wife and she threw it back to me saying that it is not possible to type on this handset. But bro, keep in mind that Mate 8 camera is not good. I wish I could send you some pictures that I took with Mate 8.

  • I have used both the devices and I must say that Mate 8 has undoubtedly outclass S7 Edge in terms of battery performance. For me, Mate 8 last at least 40 to 50% more than S7 Edge (the Exynos version). Mate 8 drawbacks compared to S7 Edge are Camera performance, display, tough I dont think the display is too bad and EMUI. The plus points of Mate 8 are, RAM management as you will really get a lot of free memory even after installing all your apps, battery, solid build quality IMO, lightning fingerprint sensor, very smooth operation.

  • In terms for real life daily use, which phone gives better battery life, Mate 8 or S7 Edge. Bench tests are not accurate in determining daily use, imho. So if there is anyone out there who has experience with both devices as daily drivers, please share

  • Wow, has been over 8 months that I first had a look and a bit of a play with this phone. One of our retailers had this out on display today and after 10 minutes with it I walked away thinking this, to me, is one of the very best phones in terms of design, build quality, feel in the hand and performance, the camera also looked good to me. I thought it felt easier to handle than the iPhone 7 plus, almost the same physical size but with a 6" screen over the iPhones 5.5". Fantastic job Huawei.

  • Mate 8 and one tip, you shouldn't care too much about RAM. In fact, it doesn't mean more than just keeping apps in the background in memory but if you close your apps directly after opening (which is not recommended) the RAM is useless

  • Its a big screen, to big for a small girls hand, its maxs size for a phone, but love it. ITS the best surf phone ever, good for games and very fast at everything and cheaper then alot of other top phones. Iam amased on the battery time on it, even though the big screen, recharge dayli, but play clash royale 1_2 hours a day, streaming music omw to work and home again, read news 1 hour and all the normal stuff, still have like min. 20_30% after a full day, if i dont use other then min. Stuff it can hold 2days. camera is awsome and fast. Task bar shows you icon if you have running app, fast and easy to close all from there. The negative: i have to hold it right when speaking or speak loud or people complaint about iam falling out, in the begging i had apps or 1 app using 800 mb in 1 day but after i disabled it, no issue. Still love it and wont get a new one the next couple of years.

  • Hey everyone. This is my first ever post on this site, so im kind of excited about it. I would first say that this phone was a replacement to my lost HTC 10. I was looking for a new phone and wanted to try something new. Through out my entire search, I was left to choose this phone and I would like to say that this is the best phone that I myself has ever used. I live in New York and the only major issue that I have with this phone and the company is that they do not offer support for the phone if you live in America. This is a huge problem for me because I want to install Android Nougat 7 with EMUI 5.0 but the updater keeps me at Android 6.0 EMUI 4.0. If anyone can help me with this that would be totally awesome. Although this was a big down for me, everything else about the phone is why I looked past this flaw and stuck with the phone. The IPS NEO LCD screen is amazing in 1080p even though the HTC 10 had a 1440 pixel screen, but no major difference is noticeable unless you are a screen geek. I never used a IPS screen and it is definitely what it is from what I researched. It is supposed help you see your screen from any angle and any angle is exactly where you can see the screen as clear as you would as if you where directly facing the phone in front of your face. EMUI is such a beautiful software HUAWEI designed for Android. The best spec of this phone is that massive 4000mah battery. Oh man how long have I waited for a phone that can be left on full brightness while using phone throughout the day moderately and not having even to think about if my battery is going to die or even when it is going to kick into power saving and even if it does go to power saving mode, it will be towards the end of my day at work or when i get home and it would still go through the night if I let it when i go to bed. Just spectacular. Huawei also have great SIMPLE built in apps unlike SAMSUNG. I run through all of my apps with out any hickups, but that is to say that this is because I have super tweaked my settings in the phone to my needs and this phone is just super super smooth. 4 GB or ram is more than enough and I rarely hit 2.5. The Kirin 950 processor is new for me and is just as good and if not better than Snapdragon. Alot of people are disappointed with the speaker but I don't see the problem with it. Its sounds good and I will tell you all right now so please read. I had the HTC 10 which has the dual speakers and are supposed to be the best sounding front speakers since the HTC M7 which I also had and the m8 but the Mate 8 speakers is DEFINITELY louder than the m10 speakers. In my opinion, if you want great speakers for music, then go buy a boombox not a phone or go buy the HTC M7 or M8 or M9 because they have freakin amazing sound quality with music and the exclusive boomsound on HTC which enhances sound quality. Pretty sick. I just use some expensive headphones if I want superb music listening quality. Thats all. The phone is also thin and light which is excellent for a six inch phone. The microphone recording quality on this is also excellent. I recorded my voice and played it back and it was so crisp and clear to hear myself speak after recording a note on the phone. Well ending on this note, again if anyone can help me find a way to update the Android OS in America, I would greatly appreciate it. There is no word on the Mate 9 yet, but already from the experience I am having with this phone, I don't doubt that I will be upgrading when it released. I am a new fan of HUAWEI and I hope that you guys can provide support in America for phones that are not supported here even though we can use it in America at about 90% of its full potential. Thanks you guys and gals for reading my first post and please any all feedback and responses are welcome. I look forward to being part of this community.

  • The comments are very hard to understand. Was something lost in translation? Anyway the speaker is louder than the speaker on my old Galaxy Note. I love the big screen and the battery life is phenomenal. The things that I don't like is the user interface. There is no way to change the fonts. The manual show you two ways to change the fonts. One is to go to settings-display and just below font size should be font style. Not on my phone. The other way is to open the theme app—customize and under icons there should be font style. Again this is missing on my phone. Also in settings there are no headings on the gray bars, they are blank. I have sub headings but no main headings. On four occasions the screen stop working. I touched the apps, capacitive buttons, the notification bar and nothing worked. I had to turn the phone off wait 30 seconds and turn it back on to get the screen to work again. As far as updating the phone goes, I have owned this phone four five months and have not received an update. I would like to know where that guy got his info about updates from. I live I the USA and was shocked to see no reference to the USA when I set the phone up. Will HUAWEI support the MATE 8 sold in North America?

  • Great choices. I had the same problem choosing my phone- G5 or mate 8(P9 is elegant). I chose mate 8, just because of it's battery back up. G5 have advantage on mate 8 over charging time but the battery is 1200 Mah lower than mate 8. Apart from this game changing difference both phones seem equally strong in other features.

The big phone shouldn't be place any controller on the back, consider it is 185g still heavy to holding while have to frequently do the unlock, it must be very tired for your finger. Many people will cover the big phone with a flip case, it end-up with more difficult unlock experience.

  • which update are you talking about? Mate 8 supposed to be their flahship and I am stuck on May 2016 security patch. They do not even release security patches regularly forget about firmware update. Camera is very poor when it comes to focus, video does not seems to get proper focus at all. Rest of the performance is good.

  • Amazing device. Surprisingly I've used all big brands, and this is by far my favourite iteration of Android. What many reviewers say is the weak link of Huawei is actually my favourite. Apart from this, it is unanimously agreed that the device is top notch. Battery life is beyond awesome and surpasses the Samsung A9 2016 I used last which had a fatal fall, and the Note 4 my wife uses.   • Hi Mj, I am also from the Philippines. I have been using my Mate 8 since April. Absolutely lag free, with incredible battery life. Despite reviews saying its gpu is weaker than its competitors, every game I tried run smoothly. My only complain is the speaker. Its very easy to cover it when use in landscape mode.

In it,it is written that you have gotten 3 years warranty,3 months screen replacement(when if it is your own mistake),3 months one on one exchange(with a new mobile of same version) if it has some problem and some more things like that. If face get any problem within 3 years of buying,just go to Huawei care center and show them this VIP card and your receipt.They will repair it without any hesitation(but obviously once).   • If you open Settings then Profiles, on screen bottom there are 3 horizontal lines. Click on them and disable auto synch. You also could disable Google Play auto update option - Google Play, 3 vertical lines on top left screen side, Settings, Auto-update apps, Do not auto update apps. Also go to phone Settings, Advance settings, Battery manager, Protected apps and allow only third party apps you need, for example Whatsapp, Facebook, Mail in case it is a third party. Apps which are not protected will be put asleep and will not work on background when phone is asleep.

That is with 58.5 minutes SOT and auto brightness and disabling many things. My Blackberry Passport would still be at around 95% from the same usage.   • Sadly my Nexus 6P was stolen when I was out of the US and I had to buy a phone. I like the Mate8 better. It I slapped the Now Launcher on it and it runs like a Nexus. This is the first phone that I don't have battery anxiety. Not sure why all phones don't have a battery this big - it is the 1 thing people care about. The camera takes great photos - less so in low light. The Mate 8's huge bright screen is a pleasure to watch sports. Speaker is at the bottom - I prefer on the front - but it sounds decent and relatively loud.

  • Mate8. P9's battery can't work as long as mate8. The only disadvantage of mate8 is its camera. And they both work smoothly while operating. P9's camera is much better but I'll not take photos all day.

  • surely, you didn't do the updates properly. you need to clear all caches and start update from factory setup. otherwise, any old software segments leftover will conflict with new software and cause unpredictable consequence. google the right process, or check with their service.

  • lag is caused by overloaded apps. and that is true for any phone. so keep phone slim like deleting unused apps or photos. normally 3g ram is big enough as there are so many only using 2g.

  • I've not experienced the problems the reviews encountered. The nuckle tap works everytime. Love it that I can uninstall almost all apps I don't like. Not all but most. The display is also better than my Note 3 in direct sunlight. This is by far better phone than my old Samsung Note 3!!!

  • Ok, Its got a big screen which is probably why you got it in the first place. Its nice and thin but it can be awkward trying to reach apps or numbers on the screen with one hand. Scared of dropping it most of the time. Its definetely a two hand phone for the most part. The camera is pretty sub par. It takes adequete shots in well lit conditions but in low light it they are dark and grainy. The messaging menu is really basic, it feels unfinished and it doesnt display photos or icons of your contacts so its hard to find your people in the sea of white names. The battery life is fantastic and it handles games and videos well. No overheating issues or crashes. Fingerprint unlock is great its very well placed. If they updated their menus and gave it a bit more class in the flow of it all i would love this phone despite the camera. Hopefully they release some updates soon but i have never had a huawei phone so not sure how committed they will be to fixing these issues..fingers crossed.

  • So it's been a week and so far, so good. Just to give you some perspective, I was choosing between Huawei Mate 8 and LG G5. My former phone was an LG G3 which I'd been using for 1 and a half years. Here are my thoughts on the Huawei Mate 8: +Responsiveness is unmatched. +The battery will DEFINITELY last you throughout the day or more. +It doesn't feel too big because of the thin bezels +very responsive fingerprint scanner +The speaker is not so bad, it's clear and loud +Although not a QHD display, IT DOESN'T MATTER. You won't even be able to tell the difference compared to other QHD smartphones. +Battery life benefits from lack of QHD +Transition and UI feel as buttery smooth as Nexus phones. On the negative side, the camera is substandard. The professional mode can compensate for the lack of exposure but setting it up can be a hassle and Time consuming. Especially taking videos at night. By default, I set it on the highest setting which is 1080 at 60 frames per second which delivers extremely well during the day but using this setting at night will deliver really dark footages. Despite the lack of camera quality I would still choose this phone. My top priority at the time of scouting for a phone was performance (not laggy) and battery life. For those in the Philippines who are recontracting your Globe postpaid plan, you might be hesitant to get the Mate 8 over the LG G5 since the two have a similar cash out value - don't be. I chose performance and battery life over unconventional and seemingly attractive bells and whistles. No regrets here.

  • I recently got the Mate 8 (upgrading from an old iphone 3...yes I know...dark ages) and am pretty happy with the quality. The UI looks similar to the IOS so I was right at home from the get go. The phone setup took minimal amount of time and was able to get it running on T-mobile in less time than it took to drive to the local branch. So far the phone has been great, no lag, no dropped calls etc. Battery lasts a really long time. The only issue is that the charger does not work here since the phone was not released in the US. I can charge it with other chargers but I suspect I need a special one if I want to hit the advertised 37% per 30min. Either way, I was able to plug it into the ipad brick and it gets back to full in a couple of hours. Overall, pretty happy with my purchase. This feels like a faster version of my ipad :)

  • I have this phone two months now, and i would like to share my opinion, because i read a lot of comments. Its price is high (around 600$ actual, 500-550$ looks more fair), but this might be a psychological game, since other flagships (S7,G5 etc) cost somewhere there (little bit more) as well. Phone might look cheap and not good if its cost was lower. But in any case it deserves it. In general, look, design and build quality is great. I think that you can hold it easier with a case, because bezzels (left/right) are narrow. Since its camera sticks out, it isn't stable while its placed on a table. A case corrects that... It is one of the fastest phones in every day tasks (i don't play games, so i don't know), and it gets a little bit hot only while charging (in 1 hour you get around 70%). Screen is very good, even under bright sun, and i find FullHD resolution perfect fot its size (6"). Its excellent choice since it offers decent battery life. Fingerprint scanner is fast and -almost always- accurate. I found speaker normal, nothing special, note that it has one speaker in the right side, i guess that left side is for microphone and symmetry reasons. Right side buttons stick out a little bit, i have pressed power/volume button(s) by mistake a lot of times. If you put a case it gets better. Notification led is small, not very bright, but elegant, suits with whole device. Unfortunatelly it doesn't work with Viber application. Battery life is really great, one of the best out there (easily 2 days with "normal" use). It only stays behind in 4G surfing. (It seems that here is not that efficient.) Signal reception is pretty good and stable, comparing to other phones. Call/Sound quality is good, call speaker is not loud, i leave it in full even while i am indoors. Even some 20$ phones have louder call speaker, so why not to have a louder one here? Regarding EMUI/SW i agree stock android is better option, but i think EMUI is not bad. There could be plenty of improvements in user friendly perspective (a lot of settings are hidden and hard to find). If you have the willing to spend some time to search EMUI you will see that it offers a lot of usefull options while its fast. Sim/SD card. You can't use both 2nd Sim and SD-card at the same time (unacceptable, i can't believe that there is no space). Stop using hybrid Sim/SD-card slots. (Add a dedicated SD-card slot!) I left cameras for the end. Front/selfie camera is good. Rear camera is mediocre. It takes moderate photos, while video is almost bad (far away from S7 for example). So rear camera should have been better, for its price. I haven't tried latest B320 firmware where Huawei says that there are optimizations in camera, but i don't feel that Sony's sensor is that good. (If you are looking for a phone with good camera this is not an option.) There are several references about battery draining (usually after upgrade). These can be fixed by restoring to factory settings. This is painful, but i don't know if there is any better option. To sum up, mate 8 is a good phone, with prons and cons which i tried to describe above. Thank you and sorry for big post.

I m u can say an addicted to huawei, I love huawei phone because I never found some thing bad or unresponsive about their phone. I used Samsung note 4 and iPhone 6s but really didn't find them as good as huawei mate 8 although I used huawei low budget phone too but they never make me feel bad or unhappy . I love it and I prefer huawei phone to those and only those who understand what is good or what is bad... and huawei worth more customers no doubt

  • BTW the software & UI is not THAT horrible. It might look like a blatant iOS ripoff but it's actually better and VERY smooth. I didn't like it at first but i got used to it and now i like it hah. And the GPU is not THAT weak. I've been gaming a heck lot on this phone and it works just fine with MAX detail on Heroes of Incredibles Tales which is running on Unreal 4 engine. The CPU, wow the CPU. The CPU is great and efficient. Just read Anandtech review to see how great the CPU is even when compared to Samsung Exynos & Snapdragon. Basically, it can run at max clock for longer time compared to last year's flagship CPUs. It's still holding strong compared even to this year's flagship CPU. Top comments favoring Note 5 and dissing Chinese phones obviously have never tried this phone. Chinese phones are improving. FAST and you Samsung fanboys who are worst than Apple fanboys better watch out.

  • Battery life is the best feature of this phone. Using it without gaming can result in 8 hours of screen on time very easily. Some even report up to 10 hours of screen on time and more. Size is a bit big but i got used to it. 6" is great for gaming and videos. Screen quality is good. Sound is also surprisingly loud and bassy. Camera is decent. Not the bad but not the worst. Build quality is second to none. Troll comments saying the battery sucks on this phone must be a crazy person. Very few phone can beat this phone's battery life but i'm glad OEMs are starting to put 4000+mAh battery in their phones. Even Samsung is following suit.

  • All in all a good phone. The chinese software can be quite intrusive. Factory resetting allot of time removing the chinese apps helped a bit. The bigger problem is the camera not being able to work correctly with different apps. Like Face book and Skype or stops working in the middle after freezing. There is no workaround except restarting and it freezes and crashes over again and over again. The bigger battery does not seem to give more juice... as I have also a nexus 6p and that phone rocks and the battery life seem to be equal to the Huawei.

  • Huawei is simply awesome!! Cracked my new Mate 8 (due to my butter fingers) and I was expecting to pay a hefty price to replace the crack screen. Walked past a Huawei shop and talked to the sales girl there regarding the screen replacement cost. She informed me that there will be no charges if my Mate 8 / P9 is purchased locally (Singapore) and within the 1st year warranty. Send in my phone to them last 10th June 2016 evening, And yes!! No charges for crack screen replacement within 1st year warranty (limited to one time only and for Mate 8 and P9 models so far). Collected on 12th June afternoon after Huawei called me up in the morning to inform that the phone was ready for collection. Was happy to collect my phone back and to top it off, they even put a screen protection filter on the new screen. Awesome customer service.

  • Due to a number of posts like yours about the poor quality of the Mate 8 camera I've waited more than 2 months before deciding to buy one. I have 2 Canon DSRL, a Sony RX100 and a few compact cameras (Canon, Panasonic, Kodak) so it's obvious that quality of the camera for me is one of the most important features in a smartphone. After getting the Mate 8 I must say that I was surprised by the general good quality of the pictures I could snap. After about 6 weeks I would rate the camera with a score around 7/8 (out of 10). Here are some UNEDITED pictures I took, you can judge by yourself: There are better camera phones out there (Huawei P9, Samsung S6 and S7, LG G4, G5 and V10, iPhone 6 and 6S to name a few) but they are not without faults and often the quality of the pics taken with the Mate 8 is VERY close to them. Mate 8 has a good general purpose camera, the focus is reliable, the lens is good (I cannot see a significant image degradation at the corners of the image), it has an effective optical image stabilisation, the exposure is good, the colours are natural and even in low ligth and high ISO the pictures are comparable (if not better) to the ones taken with a Canon or Panasonic compact camera. Limitations? - HDR mode is not particularly effective (could be fixed with a sw update) - not the ideal camera for macros (it cannot focus closer than 7-8 cm) - some noise is visible even at low ISO in areas of homogeneous colour, in particular the blue of the sky. This is a choice by Huawei in order to preserve the details of the image. All cameras with a small sensor have a lot of noise visible in the raw file. Then the jpeg engine settings determine the amount of noise that remains in the finale jpeg image file and the level of detail that will be sacrificed. The noise in Mate 8 pics can be easily removed with very little degradation of the image by post processing with sw like DeNoise or Noiseless (for OSX). - sometimes the white balance (particularly with a cloudy weather or in the shade) is not spot on - cannot easily freeze fast moving subjects. For that you need a DRLS or maybe you can get more successful shots with the Samsung S7 camera with its new Dual Pixels technology

  • Just bought mate 8 few days ago..overall experience..7/10.. I bought this due to several good reviews I read online.. I wouldn't mentioned the good points..I have a few negative issues.. 1) Software is still buggy..unresponsive touch..fingerprint ID sometimes required rekeying pin, Notification doesn't show on lock screen even setup as. EMUI still lacking some functions. 2) Camera is the biggest disappointment..all pictures taken are rendered artificially..edges are overly smoother. Auto focus tends to in the wrong place in taken pictures. 3) Sound from right speaker only even though it has 2 speakers openings. Hope the future software will improve the overall experience..

Plus never update your huawei phone ,whatever updates they send you.you will repent after updates.trust me.after updates you will find nowhere to go.even huawei customer service center they don't listen to you after once they sell their phone out.even you can email huawei head office as many as time you wants.they will not reply you back.   • What I've heard and tried the tester of this smartphone (Mate 8) I noticed that the camera have focus issue when make video recording same like I'm using Oppo R7 Plus before this.. It's really a NIGHTMARE for me to buy Chinese smartphone after that.. and make me return back to Samsung even though I realized I will bear Samsung laggy and battery drain fast issue but the camera recording is still SUPERBBB!!   • Phone looks nice but camera is so bad. It has no use to buy this phone. Go for the p8 or p8max. Their camera is so much better with good focus and sharp pictures. Really after trying mate 8 I bought the p8max and now I am happy and satisfied.

  • My one before update B180 was also L29 B162 but I didn't notice any big change after update in battery life but not sure for a lil change .I used g7 too the battery was amazing with 3000mah comparing to 4000 mah but I know g7 got 5.5"screen with the resulotion of 720×1280 instead of 6"with1920 pix but not bad

  • I find the criticism of the Mate 8 UI to be completely bizarre. I have Marshmallow installed on mine and the user experience is by far the best, easiest and cleanest I've experienced on any Android phone, and I've had many. This phone is simply sensational even compared to the Samsung S7 that I also own. Excellent UI performance, great battery life and absolutely nothing wrong with the camera - the screen is one big beautiful thing. I think reviewers typically have a problem with Huawei because it's a Chinese brand - I'll be buying Chinese from now on.

  • not update to the latest firmware yet but the speaker does sound from one side only. maybe it is only equip with one main speaker.

  • Huawei really disappoint a fan like me. Mate 8 is flagship but its dual Windows support only 8 apps, useless.

  • I know, i have. Ive told myself many times "DO NOT UPDATE" But i really trusted Huawei, because this phones beats any other flagship phone in terms of performance consistency.
