I've had this phone for 13.5 months and it performs very well. A few nitpicks, and at one point it started to run slow, about 11 months in, so I did a hard reset and all is well again. (Probably a misbehaved app?) I've dropped the phone a few times, without protection, and where other phones might have had their screens crack, I have some mild bleeds only on my screen. Now if I can just put stock Android on it..... FYI, if it helps my carrier is T-Mobile and bought the phone from Amazon Warehouse.

Install island app and activate its god mode by adb and the freeze these two app so they can't enabled untill you do it with island. Although don't freeze other system apps that are for Huawei, because after that may be your phone stuck in boot loop. Also i suggest you to freeze play store also (not play service) and unfreeze it manually when you want to use it. Good luck

My device has been great since I bought back in 201. After update with Android 9.0 and onwards, my device has been heating up everytime I play games or use the camera for sometime which is not happening before. I dunno if this is just something that is triggered by the updates itself to force us to upgrade and buy new devices. I hope Huawei don't do such stupid sales strategy.

I hi habé a stupid problem with this phone, it works great, battery last long enough and the pictures are very nice, but every single morning the google chrome and google photos are installed, I deactivate them and next day there they are again, I tried to block the auto update on the store but no help, it just keeps activating the dam apps, I use the native Gallery app and Edge Browser, for photo backup I have OneDrive so no need for those 2 apps and they do mess up my pre definitions if i let them be. Any help on this?

It was 12% and I put it on charge when it goes to 73% then this message came in front of the screen (Charging stop for your own safety make sure USB port is not wet) Than it reduce to 70% and after 1 minute the phone went off, is no longer coming on and not charging too. Am using P20 pro now but my love is in the mate 9. I want it to work what do i do? Or how do I get the motherboard to replace it?

The Mate 10 use the same charger and the same 5A cable. You can use them on your Mate 9 to see if it's getting the super charging.

There's nothing to setup on the phone for super charging. Get a new 5A cable. Trouble shooting start with the cable because it's the cheapest. The next step you'll have to get a new charger.

If your phone is MHA-L29 or MHA-L09, we won't have Android 9 update as yet. Our phones are so called "Overseas Version". No Android 9 update insight. All we can do is wait.

You need a 5A rating cable for Huawei's super charging. Those 5A cables have purple color connectors, i.e. the blue color for the USB 3.0; the white for the USB 2.0. It's the cable's problem. That's all there is to it.

Anyone here experiencing that the supercharging is not working anymore? I can only see the normal Charging status. I tried my wife's Mate 10 to charge on my Mate 9 charger and she gets the supercharging; so the charger is not the issue. Any advice? Thanks.

I bought the phone on release and I have not received one update, not for the Android software and not for EMUI. I spoke with online support via the HiCare app and they basically told me that Huawei and the phone carriers in Argentina made a deal to not allow updates through because the phone is not available in Argentina by the phone carriers. My phone is fully unlocked. I bought it in New York. This is ridiculous. I am never buying another Huawei product because of that shady move. I can't even update with FirmwareFinder. I'm still on the factory version of the Mate 9.

Am I the only one facing this issue? This phone was super good until EMUI 9 (Android 9) hit it and from there onwards it is all disaster. Available RAM is around 700MB with no background running app. Use camera for 2 minutes and it is oven hot. Because of lower available RAM the phone is very slow and keeps on exiting the apps. Tried hard reset, rolled back to EMUI to 8 and then upgraded again but nothing worked.

Just receive the update for Mate 9, Android 9 and EMUI9.0.1. The interface totally changed, and it looked fresh. Just that it is quite non fluid as the first day I got the phone. Interface become less fluid, less smooth. Other than that, the camera stays strong, the only reasons I’m staying and maintaining this phone after 2 years.

I have same your issue exactly and then i returned my mobile and took money back. Here is my story in short, when i tried all the possibilities without success i found the serial number is fake that's why Huawei technical people cannot send or push the update. I contacted Huawei customer service and told me to do so. Moral of the story, contact them and they will ask you about all the information in your mobile and wait their feedback. Their customer service is the best. Please let us know.

After I upgraded to OnePlus 6T, I noticed that all the Bluetooth issues I had with my smartwatch disappeared and the watch battery life has drastically improved. From 6-9 days to over 2 weeks on a single charge just like that. This remains as my backup phone, even if it has charging issues.

I assume that you are having a brand new phone from official retail channel with no modification (root, unlock, etc.) carried out what-so-ever. The C636 build users can provide information about the latest available version. Please try with HiSuite on PC after doing factory reset. If it does not work, you can try contacting official Huawei Service Center for further assistance.

No, it should be something like MHA-L29C567BXXX or MHA-L29 8.0.0.376(C567). Since you are running EMUI5, it should be something similar to former. You can try Hi suite on PC to see if you are able to update it. I am not sure about EMUI9, but EMUI8 should readily available for all the Mate 9 models.

from android 7 to 8, from 8 to 9, actually are some touch up on the user interface, more clean and clear. camera got minor update, notification bar become white color, clock more complicated to me now, most buttons previously on top, now are all moved to bottom. volume key from horizontal become vertial now. Some changes are good and some i wish can retain. After all, the gestures is what everyone looking for. yes i do like it so much. from recent home back keys to swipe up left right, it took me about 3 days to feel comfortable to use. An 2016 smartphone, and able to upgrade to android pie in 2019. Worth it.

This is the best phone i've ever owned so far. Compared to my previous phones, the S1,S4 and S6edge, this one hold the longest, battery wise and it has alot less bugs. Even after a Year this phone gets me 4 1/2 to 5hrs of on Screen Time and lasts the whole day. The Screen is bright, the camera is more than enough and especially the night mode is nuts! U might want to add, that the "Fast Charging" is 22,5W which is only beaten by one phone manufacturer in the current state! All in all this is a great phone and i deffinetly recommend it !

Yes, you should be able to connect the phone to your tv via HDMI, just need the Type-c to HDMI cable, that can be found at most china town stores and on wish, or takealot if you from South Africa of course.

Thank you. Same here. I contacted Huawei customer care and I was informed that some updates have already been rolled out. But they don't send the OTA to all Mate 9 users at once. Its done in batches. I was asked to be patient and wait for the OTA and said it shall be done soon. But we are nearing the end of November and still no sign of any OTA. On Huawei's website, its stated all regions will get Gpu Turbo update for Mate 9 in November. Its disappointing.

Firmware Finder shows that Huawei has released the update, but at least for me the patch (along with November security patches) is not approved for my C432 unit. But the update is coming, as soon as it gets approved for me. Change log mentions GPU Turbo and some other changes.

there are 2 types of things you have to consider for fast charging,both are written on chargers 1.volts(v) 2.amperes (A) 3.combine these 2 and you get watts (w) the higher the watts,the faster the charger,but it can damage the phone as well,if charger has more than 3 ampere of chargers, quick chargers are usually around 15 watts,(5 volts x3 amperes) they will charge your phone quickly but be sure if you have a phone like a mate 9 or any phone which is not a 2018 flagship,then dont buy a charger faster then 18watts or even 15 watts

Hi friends! I use Mate 9 and I have been waiting for Gpu Turbo update eversince I read about it on Huawei's site. As far as I know, it stated Honour and Mate 9 will get Gpu Turbo update by November in all regions. Well, its 10th November and I still haven't seen any Gpu Turbo update. That said, I do have my brother who lives in India and he uses Honour smartphone. He got Gpu Turbo update at around 2nd November. Says its awesome! I hate notch phones and can't stand the trendy 18:9 and up to 19.5:9 screens on many of the new higher end phones. 6.3" you say? Well, heck a Butterfinger bar is 8" long. A long skinny screen does not equal a large screen. I picked up a Note 9 at the store and thought it was silly. The Mate 9 is "only" 5.9", but it's a 16:9 ratio, and it seems like none of the cool newer phones like Mi Mix 2s, Oppo, vivo, even Mate 10 pro have 16:9 ratio anymore. Great phone, camera, sound and software,. Ok screen resolution but great screen size. I think I'll wait...

Hai, I am from India. Recently I got this mobile as a gift from my friend in KSA. This is my first Huawei/Honor device in my life. This is one of the best device I used. Everything is superb and equivalent(or better?) to the flagships, except in the case of cameras. I am using this since last one month and my observations are as follows. 1. great design with high screen to body ratio and with notification light. the camera bump is very slightly protruding. very confident to hold, but slippery if not used with a back cover. 2. I got the black color version and it is very attractive. 3. superb crystal clear display with good contrast, easily visible under direct sunlight. 4. butter smooth touch response. great speed, performance is equivalent or better than many SD-830 mobiles. 5. very quick charging. 6. absolutely no heating even under heavy usage, always at glass temperature. 7. no lagging/hanging even at high end use. 8. clear and very loud speaker output without any distortion which is very useful for ladies, because we keep mobiles in bags/purses. the stereo effect is amazing. 9. very good for music listening. I am using RHA-MA750i head set. 10. good RAM management. 11. very easy to use softwares. lot of very useful software features. no bloatwares. got an update last week with face unlock feature. hope they will provide android Pie update soon. 12. superb battery backup. I am getting 2 full days(or more) backup with 24 hour internet on with social media usage, lot of calls, texting, browsing etc. 13. camera is not up to the mark, only if it is compared with LG V20 or Samsung S7(as per my opinion, these are the BEST camera mobiles in the same price segment), but far far better than many same kind/priced mobiles. 14. we can use 4G sim in both slots. I am using JIO sim without any additional applications such as 'Jio 4G Voice' and I am receiving incoming calls through Jio sim without any problem, but out going calls using Jio is not possible.

Hi, Mate 9 is one of the best phones from Huawei and even after almost 19 months of initial release the phone seems to be competant in the market. I am using since it was released. Coming to your questions, 1. Yes, it supports OTG provided there is a C' type USB (adaptor - comes with the phone) 2. Not even minor issues, only if 64 gb internal storage is not sufficient need to compromise the second SIM.

I bought this phone while on holiday in October 2017 when my phone at the time (Nexus 5X) died. It probably wouldn't normally have been my first choice, but it was a really good spec for a good price at the time, since it was an older model by then. I'm sure a lot of people really like this phone -- and with good reason. It's snappy, more than enough RAM and storage to do most anything you'd want to, great battery and really good screen. The camera is absolutely the best I've encountered on any mobile phone ever. But I just couldn't like it. In fact, I came to hate it very quickly. The bloatware pre-installed and unremovable is unforgivable. The EMUI skin is horrible and just gets in the way. The lock screen, because it doesn't require "enter" to be pressed before a PIN entry is classified as a break-in attempt, conspired with my company's "five-wrong-tries and then factory reset" policy during a pocket-dial incident to cause me to be stranded in a foreign city on a business trip with no access to any of my contacts, banking, etc. The software is always at least one release behind Android, and they never seem to release the ".1" version. When I bought it, it was on 7.0 but 7.1 had been out for months. By the time it updated to 8.0, 8.1 had been out for months. As a system administrator, this probably disproportionately irks me as ".0" releases are always considered to be the risky ones. You have no idea how much happier I'd be if they just skipped the .0 and went to the .1 each time. The battery optimisation defaults are insane. The phone will kill anything and everything that isn't running in the foreground. Before I worked out the right combination of multiple advanced options to disable them, Skype for Business would drop my call whenever the screen went off or I switched to another app because the phone killed it. Similarly, any app designed to run in the background like an app locker or productivity tracker like Rescue Time would just be silently killed in the background. Things that are not really the phone's fault, but my preference include the fact that it really turned out to be just too big for me. Seriously, I bought new jeans and trousers specifically because they had bigger pockets to accommodate this beast. I just don't have a need for this size phone, and I'm now wondering why I thought I did when I bought it. I can't wait till I can find the cash to replace this phone, preferably with something that runs truly stock Android or LineageOS. Sorry to those of you that love it, but it's just not for me.

Depends on your region, but Mate 9 already has an update out with that feature supported. My device hasn't gotten it yet, but I know it's out there. People on XDA have installed it and apparently Face Unlock works well.

8.0.0.363(C432) is the number of this update, and it seems to cause some battery drain that started right after this update. Hopefully next update fixes it. Will perform a factory reset in case I can't find anything else that would fix it and report back after that, but will give it some time.

The only issue I have is that I have a glass tempered screen protector on it because I drop it often is that sometimes when I'm reading new articles, I press the article and it doesn't open. Got Oreo on December 21st. Now as I've used it for some time, it's really good so far. No issues, except for the need to reconnect my smartband every once in a while or the phone won't accept any data from the band. This started immediately after updating to Oreo, worked just fine on Nougat. Still, a good update and this issue is also apparently on Pixels too. Google-related, not Huawei-only.

Just got andoid 8.0 oreo, here in Romania. You just have to use HiCare app from meniu, and then be patient, because is an 2.5 gb update. Everithing is just fine, smooth, no lag at all, baterry improvement. At the end, i did a factory restore and wipe cahe partition from recovery, just to be sure. So far, so good!

I've been curious about the Mate 9 for a while and when I found it on sale recently I bought one. I switched the SIM and microSD card from my Note 8 to the Mate 9 and, after using the Mate 9 as my daily driver for the past week, I'm impressed. I played with EMUI 5 for an hour or so and, while it's not a bad interface, I installed the Nova Prime launcher. I'm going to test the Mate 9 for another week or so and, if I continue to have a positive experience, I may keep it and sell my Note 8. Great phone so far. Show less REPLY

Apparently my IMEI number got on their "you want the beta oreo" list. I checked about a month ago, and there was an update, installed it and it was oreo (beta-321 version). Other than one glitch with BT, which I resolved by booting to safe, deleting the cache, I haven't noticed any problems.

i did it all.. one biggest problem is.. my mate 9 now has issue to handle FHD, 2K and 4K mp4 and mkv videos and movies.. it just lagging and some time won't even play. same when running 3D Mark 2460 x 1440 sling shot and ice storm unlimited got very low scores compared with Nougat. but i wonder about it.. 2k and 4k recorded videos just work fine.

Try doing a factory reset. Usually, it is recommended to perform the factory reset after the OS upgrade and perform a clean install of the apps so that if there any compatibility issue with the apps, they can be fixed.

They are "the same" company, like KIA and Hyundai. Depends what do you want, if size isn´t a problem, I would say Mate 9 is better. Design, Honor 9 is better( in my opinion) Mate 9: Bigger Battery, Bigger Screen, Better cameras, Better support(I think so). Honor 9: Smaller Screen, Decent Battery, Decent Cameras(no leica branding) , Beautiful design, Front Fingerprint sensor. Both are great choices, but I would choose the Mate 9

You don't need any app from play store. You can merge contacts from the settings in Contacts app. You should also choose in settings from where it takes (what contacts is shown) contacts (from phone, from sim, from both, etc...). Disable contacts from SIM (you can import them first from sim to phone) and use only contacts saved on phone memory. Also, which contacts are shown is selectable under Custom contacts

Yes! My previous phone was Note 4. I bought used (3 months old) Mate 9 and I'm very happy. For me is screen much better than amoled on Note 4. Yes, the resolution is "only" hd but no more burned-in effect (after 6 months of usage!!!) on amoled, no more yellowish white color, no more unusable screen on sunlight, battery died after 8 months (yes, they changed the burned-in screen and dead battery under the warranty, but anyway...). Go for Mate with lcd screen! Oh, the camera is also good. It's a little bit slower when taking photo but focus is fast and night pictures are very good (there is way more stars on night photo then it was on Note's night pictures).

Read from XDA that they have managed to boot Mate 9 into stock Android, using the Oreo-beta's Treble-support and they managed to get it fully functional apparently. There's supposedly a video of this coming up. If this is the real deal, I guess Huawei is really on its way to deliver faster and monthly updates!

So i've been using this device for a week now and i can say its better than i expected. Battery life compared with my old LG g4 last at least twice more, and it charges very fast. Screen looks fantastic even if its 1080p, camera shots really nice pictures, i especially like night mode and wide aperture. Why 4GB not less, because Android has terrible memory managment along with recource hoging apps. Why not more? Most of current chips have dual-channel memory. To make dual channel work properly and actually work two identical chips must be combined. And chips come in sizes of: 2^n . for example 512MB, 1024MB, 2048MB, 4096MB. 3GB, 6GB are for sure single channel memory, so the speed of memory in such phones are twice as low, to get 3GB you must put two chips of different size like 1024MB and 2048MB, two chips of different size cannot form real dual-channel memory. Battery capacity is needed because we want or phones to last as long as possible. Resolution on 6" screen higher than fullhd (1920x1080) is almost undetectable, but drains battery much faster, MUCH. USB C connector, because microUSB litteraly sucks. It's not durable, gets loose fast, to change it in such advanced device is PITA. Wifi AC, because it guarantees 5ghz channel, which nowadays are needed. 2.4Ghz channels are full and overused which not only makes the signal weaker, but it makes wifi much more slower and laggy. 3.5mm audio jack, do I need to explain why? Convenience. MicroSD card for the same reason as audio jack. These features makes phones much more flexible in usability. Main chip is powerful enough for great user experience, no lag, less waiting, good graphics. Price is sane compared to oponents. It still lacks FM which is a shame, but it's probably me who still values it. Also it's single SIM phone and is not suitable for people who want dual SIM

I even contacted huawei online services they said its because i am opening more than one app in the same time !! I have a problem with app twin in my mate 9. If I enable the second whatsapp using apptwin and the internet connection is switched off, the whatsapp icon in the notification starts to flicker and the drop down menu will hang up. If I disable the apptwin, things will be fine. Or if I need to use two whatsapp without any issues, I need to disable the notifications of whatsapp completely. I also observed that, when you normally enable second whatsapp using apptwin, a separate setting for that application (second whatsapp) should appear in the application settings. But unfortunately, it doesnot appear on mine. But I have seen it on other Huawei devices. My EMUI version is 5.0 with the security path level updated on 5 june 2017. No updated there after. Can someone find a solution for this.

I don't know about S8+ but Mate 9's battery is really great. 6 hours of SOT without power saving mode on, with 80% brightness and both connectivity on (wifi & 4G), plus my LG smartwatch is connected to the phone. With power saving mode you can reach 7h of SOT without any problem. Before Mate 9 my phone was SG Note 4 and SOT was 3 - 3.5h (I was able to get 5h of SOT when battery was new and the phone was in the stock/factory state, so almost no apps installed).

I'm using this device as my primary unit and used google launcher in it. google weather and clock widget does not work. the only way you put clock widget is to use Huawei launcher. that sucks. i love the loudness when earphones plug in it tho it doesnt have any built in equalizer, it does great already.

I brought it 3 months back it is really super phone I love the quality of pictures and video on it and while net browsing it never hang up I open multiple apps and its just running like a leopard I really love it. battery is still working fine from 6 am till 5 pm its going smoothly never need to recharge in between these hours although I am a Facebook and twitter addict .but I never need to charge it. only 20 min and battery is full for another 12 hours. amazing phone

With the latest update of my mate 9 pro phone ,i found no issue of the phone, but the only big issue is that the power consuming is quite serious,i not sure whether is the background apps problem or not.fully charge 100% at night 11.30pm and wake up on 6.30 am it become 85 % ,before update it's only 4 % loose within 7-8 hours ,if there's no wifi connected condition,it could maintain in 100% condition

Its a shame that a high end phone freezes after you turn on bluetooth. It had happened not only once, so Huawei really low from you. And when i reset my phone, it has requested backup password and I typed correct one but it didnt accepted it, so i had to hard reset my device.

I think I'm not the only one to notice worse WiFi after the B190-update, though. Every single device (OP3, one laptop) in my apartment, except for my phone now, has pretty strong WiFi across the whole apartment. Mate 9 is the only "problematic"-one. No charging issues here. The only bug I got with the update is the not-so-good or stable WiFi, used to be near perfect connection in my whole apartment - now my Mate loses the connection in one certain room (room arrangements haven't changed).

I've had the Mate 9 for several months now. My work gave me a Galaxy S7 but honestly, I prefer the mate 9. the Galaxy S7 has a better screen, but its small, and it has Samsung pay but I can do without that. The Mate 9 is blazing fast and its rear mounted finger print reader is way faster, more accurate and easier to use than any other front mounted one including apples and Samsung's. The cameras are great for casual photography and I still enjoy having a dedicated headphone jack. The IR blaster works as advertised and the speakers are ok also.

Purchased my Mate9 in Jan/2018. Worked fine for me until my screen broke last month. I live in Paris (by the way) Only Authorised repair shop is a store named POINT SERVICE MOBILE. Surprusingly they charged me 130 euros for the screen replacement and for the digitizer. (I AM NOT SURE ABOUT THE ACTUAL PRICEIN THE MARKET) Had to do it because I was in need of my phone. Prior to the repair, my phone never let me control the function because it presses lot of buttons constantly on its own with my entire screen coverned in red colour parallel lines. (Not sute if they have used an ordinary or duplicate acreen replacement. After the repair, i have lost the screen clarity, camera quality although it still give a picture with 5.7mb size whe in 20mp mode. That said, its been just aday ater the repair, and I am facing the same automatic button presses on my screen and ita impossible to stop it. Phone heats up alottttt. Plz advise what shall I do? True I am visiting that shitty standalone atore again but I think i am fcuked already. Moral of my post:Mate9 is an awesome phone but incase if anything happens to your phone, you are screwed because they lack in service center.

Great phone. My last phone was the mate 7 until it went missing. The mate 7 never gave me a reason to look for a new phone......until it's fate. Anyway, because the mate 7 did me well for two years, I chose the the mate 9 as it's latest form. Very impressed at the progress of the mate. Ok. 1.The reality is This phone does not have ANY LEVEL water proof. Service center says even in rain, phone can be damaged that is not covered by warranty. 2. After 90 degree of temperature phone is draining its battery. At more than 100 degree temperature weather, if you shoot a video the phone basically goes hot like hell. 3. The support and service center. The service center just mess. the Communication is problem. They even do not listen you. I wanted to talk to supervisor. Tony the guy who is a rep in support center he did not let me talk. The culture is completely different what I see in Google Nexus or in iphone support center. 4. They do not have enough warranty. Huawei thing they have good phone compatible with the other and they want to charge same money. That is just a mess if they do not have warranty! What is good about it? Yes the camera is nice. thats all. Dont buy it dont advise it.

I got my Mate 9 a week ago. I am replacing an android phone about every 18 months.... I can definitely tell you this is the best phone I have ever had. Battery life is Awesome! Speedy Performance, Did not find anything that I am not happy with (maybe with not being water resistant :-) ) I had few issues before I upgraded to latest firmware (mainly in notifications) but after upgrading the firmware - all is smooth!!! Try to turn off your 4g, auto scan wifi and Bluetooth and auto sync. This does help me with my battery. Before, in the state of idle through 6 hours, it drained almost 20% of my battery. Now it barely 2%.

Yeah, mine used to get hot too and the battery didn't last long... The problem was the Facebook app running in the background. I restricted its background memory use and disabled notifications; since that, its always cool and the battery lasts 2 days with light use.

I don't think it's a network speed issue. Here is 4G in my area. I had a video call to my friends iPhone 6s plus and another one have Note 5. We were set together at the same place. Their video is coming out pretty good but mine was scratched and not clear same like their phones.

You can't have both and live with it, yet. Unlike Samsung, yes, you may have one of the best screen, no doubt, but don't even brag about its battery life.

Hi Renegade. I find it strange that you experiance trouble with messages delivered on your Mate 9. I know that was a problem on the older Huawei's even up to the P9. In my household we are using a Mate 9 and P10 Lite and none of them have that problem anymore. Maybe you will have to take a closer look at your back ground settings or it might be different to the models that we are using in South Africa.

Have owned Samsung phones up until now. The latest 7.0 update on my Galaxy Note 5 made me switched to a Huawei Mate 9 which is overall a very powerful phone. However, hate the fact that none of the important apps including dropbox, social media, etc can run in the background. So you don't get any new messages until you physically open the app. That's not a smartphone but a dumphone setting. Jabra Bluetooth headset also consistently disconnects, media audio sometime plays through headset, sometimes through device. 10% is too much if compared to my Mate9 (MHA-L29) which is draining only 2% of battery throughout the night. Try doing a factory reset...don't forget to backup your files before doing so. Also try to do a "Cleanup" before saying goodnight to your phone and see if it helps.

just got this phone today and here are my findings: pro: super fast finger print, nice build material, fluid overall. problems: options on settings menu sometimes cannot toggle back like bluetooth so you will be using the swipe down menu. NFC and bluetooth did not worked with my Nexus 5 and its weird since it can work with other Huawei device like the P10. I don't know why. Slow to read usb otg. EMUI is quite clunky to my taste and needs trimming down it is hard to navigate inside the settings all around. maybe Im just used to stock android experience.

What I realized is that you have to configure the power options well to close the applications that consume a lot (facebook, Instagram, ETC...) ... I would also recommend uninstall facebook or use The Lite version or Web Version, since in Mate 9 consumes a ridiculous amount of energy ... Making these modifications the battery lasts much more ...

Been using this spectacular smartphone for more than a month already. All I can say is that there are no regrets on buying this. Yes, after the recent update (B172), the battery seems to go down by more than 15% - 20% (in my case) in idle or during sleep even though the screen brightness were reduced. What I do, when Im going to bed, I would put it into Ultra Battery mode for the whole night. By then, most the battery would reduce would be less than 2%. Other than that, everything were amazing. Even better than my Note Edge (no more Samsung). Not to forget the speaker, I think it is the best

Bought this the other day, and just wow, i had a Samsung Note 4, then Note 5 and this i must say is in a different class, the build quality is second to none, the speed is the best ive seen on any device, when i tested the Samsung S8+ this even glitched a little, but the Mate 9 is a powerstation, the battery is unreal, ive had this 2 days and have not yet plugged in the charger and still have 40% battery left, the best phone i have had and played with to date, the only fault with the current firmware is the Barclays Mobile Banking app does not work, but there is news that an update to 7.1.1 is due and this will fix this issue.

@Chemistt: Maybe it's a "dead on arrival" (DOA) device. If you experience issues within 3 days, they just verify and give you a new one. My Samsung tablet also had some heavy issues and it was in the same price range. Other stuff, check if you have enough 4G coverage. By default modern phones go on 4G, but coverage/reception is utter rubbish no matter where I tried, so I just always switch my devices to 2G/3G.

Hey mate! I too had the same issue after the B172 update. I was about to give it up. But luckily , I was able to figure out the culprit that was hogging on my battery. It was the twin app function for Whatsapp (& Fb) !!! I was using two whatsapp accounts (Technically the phone functions as two phones, hence the battery drain) and now that i have disabled the second one, the battery seems to hold up well as before. I have ditched the skins in the market and sticked on to the default ones. Now Getting almost 6-8 hours of SOT since then.Just give it a try to see if there is any change. Cheers!

After updating my note 5 to to android 7.0, typical common issues started : Key stroke delay (especially when typing within web browser) which makes very difficult to write anything, Samsung keyboard spelling auto corection got messed up (corrects the most normal properly typed words into a different word ). DO NOT UPDATE YOUR ANDROID TO A HIGHER VERSION, EVER!

The continuous web browsing , I meant to say . 170-175 min. The average obviously would be 340-350 min. Also never ever upgrade your Android operating system or even IOS, because almost all the time you will exexperience battery draining issues after update.

I don't know about battery life in Europe but in USA (with our networks at least ) Average Anroid and IOS web browsing time while connected to 4G LTE is around 150 min of constant web page clicking and loading until the battery goes from 100% charged to 0%. Now since during the average web browsing we click a new page twice less than constantly, we would get an average of 300 min of web browsing. Since this Huawei has 4000 mag battery instead of 3000 mAh, the web browsing time on this phone is about 170-175 (versus average of 150min)

I am facing battery draining issues too like some users experiencing it, i have taken it to service centre and the first time they told me its hardware issue so they replaced a new one for me and the second time they told me its B138 software issues but after he helped me updated to B172, its the same anyway drains 12% in one hour while in idle mode. I closed all apps and only allowed Gmail Whatapps running on my background. I'm literally done with this phone. Those planning to buy this , good luck.

Are you using the twin app feature for WhatsApp or Facebook. If so deactivate it. Then in the power settings turn on ' close application after the screen is locked' and ' automatically close power intensive apps'. Try this and your mate 9 battery life will be just fine.

What is your maximum screen-on-time? Mine is about 7 hours, but that's mostly due to bad reception in my area. :) My usual battery life on a single charge is more than 2 days, often over 3 days. 4 days has been my highest record so far, so battery life is good for me.

Its battery lasts for sooo long, even with heavy use it's there for you. When it goes below 20% cpu&gpy performance gets a bit limited so it doesn't consume as much battery, but it's a great battery in all aspects. Its selfie camera is good in daylight, and average in low light from my experience. Though it has autofocus, and its resolution is great to see. :) It's a real flagship in everything, and you gotta see its 2-3x zoom pics to believe it. If you got the money it's a great phone to have!

Hi.. mate ;) Usually every device when you boot it up for the 1st time does so, cuz literally everything is running, trying to update, and in addition to this, you the user add even more stuff on it, download apps, login to them etc, so it's running ~full speed to perform every task. I always reboot my new devices after doing the important things and restoring. Sometimes more than once. I also force-stop needless running apps, cuz when it's brand new all of them are running.

Hi, mine is mocha brown. Unfortunately no solutions found yet although I tried to do factory reset once again , my phone was considered ok for 2 days after reset. The phone can last for 10 hours under medium usage ( 2 hours idle, 3 hours opening data, 5 hours opening wifi , gmail and whatapps running in the background ). After 2 days, battery started to drain again like what i'm experiencing now, it drains 15% in airplane mode during my 6 hours sleep. Mine heats up time to time... and sometimes in flight mode whilst I'm sleeping, it drains 20-30% of the battery. Own this phone about a week plus only and I am claiming it the third time from Huawei. Ive consulted few other owners and what Ive experienced isn't normal. Thus far their unit is still ok. Mind you, mind is the the black version. Any solutions found thus far on your end?

The Mate 9 has a better camera, a far better version of EMUI, a faster processor, better GFX performance and is overall the better device. Obviously it'll cost more so the choices are more to if you can settle for the older Mate 8 and how much the cost figures in your decision. I have a Mate 9 and it's brilliant.

From an actual Huawei Mate 9 user - my advice is to stay away from the Mate 9 for now. It's a slick looking phone with a great camera and 'ok' capabilities, but where it really falls short is there is no service or support for US-based customers. Trust me - I bought one of the first to come out and am struggling with the device. Actually, finally had to shelve it and pull out my old S5 till I can find an adequate replacement.

I have Huawei Mate 9 since almost 4 month.. Great device, robust and have great capabilities. Shortly after I bought it, camera had a glitch and refused to start anymore. I tried other camera applications and it worked but for limited use. Other applications which has its own camera app are fine. I restored the device to the factory setting but still same problem persists.. I don't want to lose my enormous settings and data in the device, but definitely this is my first mobile glitch since Sony Ericsson and the Nokia 3310..this is definitely the last time I will ever buy a Huawei phone

Themes can modify the whole OS-wide look, if they are made properly. I changed my originally so-damn-white-EMUI to dark-themed-EMUI with a simple theme. Didn't even have to reboot my Mate to see the whole OS in a different style. Low-light pictures aren't that great, but I don't really take them, so I'm okay with this. Daylight-taken pictures are GREAT.

I like how the pictures look on a bigger screen. Night-time pics aren't exactly the best ones out there, but okay in my opinion. Not that I take a lot of pictures at night. Phone doesn't really even get hot, remains warm at it's worst. Check out the bending test on YouTube, this phone is pretty well built.

This phone is amazing. Great battery life, camera is really good, screen is so damn bright that it's easy to read in a sunny day and sound quality while using headphones seems to be pretty good. Speakers are very loud, hard to miss a call or a notification. The sound is obviously flat like all phone speakers out there. Fingerprint scanner is working well, it's very fast. Build quality is really nice as well, but the phone is slippery and made of aluminum, of which I'm not the biggest fan. Kirin 960 seems to be able to handle Android really well, doesn't lag at all. Gaming I haven't tried, I have a high-end PC for that purpose. UI's use of white color bothered me and so I downloaded a theme (from XDA) which made the whole UI (settings-menu too!) dark. Wish this phone had AMOLED-screen... That's my only real "issue" with this phone. Other than that, I couldn't be happier with my purchase!

I am the proud owner of the very good LG G4. After almost 2 years the screen broke and to replace it would cost me 150€. After reading a lot here on GSMArena I decided to buy the Huawei Mate 9. When you look at the specs, this is a serious upgrade, but is it? First thing you notice, the screen... Wow... Real vivid colours, deep black, a lot bigger then the screen of my LG G4. Mate 9: 1 - LG G4: 0 Battery. I had to charge my battery 2 times per day, now it lasts a whole day. Mate 9: 2 - LG G4: 0 Chipset. My new Mate 9 starts a lot faster when I put it on, when I scroll websites, Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, Tumbler,... It goes smooth, no hiccups, ... On my old LG G4 sometimes the page feels washed and blurry. Mate 9: 3 - LG G4: 0 Software: Here I miss my old LG, maybe it's just me, so used on my LG that I find it hard to adapt to the new EMUI software... But now a clear win for LG Mate 9: 3 - LG G4: 1 Camera: the dual camera of the Mate 9 is bigger and has a lot more fun options. But in low light I feel that my old LG still produces more clear, detail rich pictures... I think this is because of the f2.2 lens compared to the f1.8 used in the LG G4. Also the LG G4 has 16MP and the Mate 9 only 12MP... Mate 9: 3 - LG G4: 2 I own the Mate 9 just 7 days, so after a month or two I may have changed my opinion on some matters. But now, the Mate 9 won. Is it worth the upgrade? Honestly, I feel iPhone is just an overly hyped product. I feel most of the people buy iPhone just to be considered in the cool league. But personally, I have never liked iPhone, not coz of price or whatever. It just makes you feel so controlled by it rather than you controlling the phone. Lots of restrictions and not user friendly. Plus most of the apps are to be purchased. Maintenance is expensive. When you can get equal or better specs than iPhone with Huawei, Samsung, LG or any other reputed brand and that too at a much cheaper or cheaper price, why burn your own pocket? one huawei dealer told me the build number i was having is a bug which was B138, he told me to update to B158 which i did yesterday and i ignored the close on lock features, battery life improved significantly.It can last around 17 hours for heavy usage (having 3 Gmail account & 1 hotmail account , whatsapp , messenger , 2 news apps running at the same time )

overall great, but with some things i don´t like. I bought it because of the great 5.9" screen, which is not QHD, something the Samsung Note 5 already had when it was released 2 years ago. The 5.9" screen is actually more like 5.6" because the bottom buttons (back, multi-window and home) are now part of the screen and Huawei was stupid enough not to provide a way to make them disappear, they are always on, so you can´t have the 5.9" - unless you install a 3rd party app, but the app also blocks the keyboard when you need it, so not the best solution. Huawei should fix this. Also, no real double SIM slots, one is for the SD card, you can´t have 2 SIM cards + the SD card. The camera is great but the width of the image isn´t. Needs improvement in these areas, the rest is excellent.

Hi, can anyone please tell me why my mate 9 battery is draining so fast ? I have been using Mate 9 for about a month. Everything works well. The battery is superb. It lasts for 3 days or more with normal usage. The screen is very good, I dont have touch problems. I recomend this phone. I'm very satisfied with it.

IPS is more power efficient and has more correct colors than AMOLED. Trust facts rather than rumors and wide spread delusions. Check real tests on anandtech. In fact AMOLED is not as energy efficient as IPS. Also, good IPS ( not cheap ones) is better in terms of color reproduction. Vivid colors on AMOLED screens do not exist in real life and even so called "natural" setting doesn't help much.

I have always been a loyal Samsung smartphone consumer. However, I switched from my Note 3 that I used for 3 years to Mate 9 after intensive reviews and researches. 1 month experience: Design is superb Fast data connectivity Strong inbuilt memory Super fast charging (unbelievable) Smooth (at times faces touch sensitivity issues) Awesome pictures and video recording Stylish too Concerns: 1st two days of usage was as heavy as at present. But in the first 2 days, I only charged once and I still had around 20% left on the 3rd day with continously you tubing, clash of clans, social media etc. Then came an update to fix touch sensitivity issue, and from thereon, I am charging my phone once or twice everyday. Else it doesn't last even with smart usage. I love this phone Mate 9 so much and it would be great if any of you can advise me to rectify my battery problem. Also, since yesterday, my phone has started lagging a bit too. :-( Damn! With due respect, plz don't suggest me to download battery saver or 3rd part app. Note: I deep clean my phone and always keep it optimised every now and then. I don't use it as much as I did the first few days, still this battery problem is persistent. Thank you and I await your responses. Question: do y'all think I got a defect item?

I have a mate 9, LHA-09 uk model and its a great phone with outstanding battery life often lasting 2 days of heavy use, previous lg g4 and note4 only lasted a day with similar use, screen brightness and quality are excellent despite only being full hd. A few minor issues are sideways swipe sensitivity which is sometimes unresponsive, miss the swipe to delete messages a long press and then selecting delete is a step backwards, and when copying phone numbers into dialler there is no box to allow you to do this without first typing the first number then the box appears so you can paste into - but then you have to go back and delete the number you typed in to get the box to appear..cmon Huawei please sort.

I'm also at the tail-end of 3 1/2 year experience with a Galaxy Note 3. I would have bought a Note 7 but...... Anyway, I'm looking for a replacement prior to the late launch of the S8 or Note 8 because my battery on the Note 3 just won't keep a charge and neither will any replacement I've tried. I do appreciate the removable battery because I've been able to limp along for the past 7 months with cheap battery replacements. I'm down to about one hour of use. I'd prefer to wait until the Note 8 but can't wait. The Huawei Mate 9 appears to be the best non-Samsung replacement. I'm worried about the font problem, the insensitive touch-screen and the notification issue (although I think that might only require an adjustment). Let me know if you think Mate 9 will last 3 1/2 years like my dear ol' Note 3 did. Cheers from Down Unda.

This is weird because, I have it and had already droped it sometimes (felt like my heart was breaking when I did but nothing happened to the screen, my old galaxy s5 neo would have been dead already and it did) In fact it got stuck yesterday beta weatermelon and a big bottle of soda, I promise won't do that again but the screen still survives, I have to say this phone is SOLID and clumsy proof :D

Bought a mate 9 yesterday. My gripe at this moment is 1. audio quality...not as good as the mate 8. whether through earbuds, Bluetooth or speakers. I hope this is not a hardware issue but can be fixed by an update. I compared it to my LG G3 audio which was better. 2. Battery life.....not as good as it should be. Mate 7 better. !! 3. Low light HDR pictures...blurry. All else seems to be good. I hope all of this is a software fix, or they will have a hard time getting traction in the USA.

I have both phones. Moto z I bought 3 days ago and mate 9 at launch. Thought I would love Moto more but I compared them side by side. Battery on z drain much faster cause it's smaller. Display is qhd on z but I tried to see the difference and I can't. On z colors look a little bit more alive but white is better on mate 9. Messenger app is white background and it looks better o. Mate. Camera is weaker on z eaven with 1.8 aperture. Speaker is way louder and better quality on mate. Z has a nice design. 5 mm thin. No headphones jack. It's stock Android. But you can't update contact app and dialer app. It's restricted to Google phones only. Boath are good devices but when you try both mate 9 is a better buy.

But in few days a update is coming and will solwe any problem if there is one. Camera is very good. Natural pictures,alot of options. You need to charge it every 2 days. Battery is long lasting

Its been 2 days since I am using this phone. Had Mate 8 before this. Huawei claims that Kirin 960 is more power efficient than Kirin 950. But honestly speaking, Mate 8 battery lasts much longer than Mate 9. It does not mean that Mate 9 battery is anyway poor, but Mate 8 wins here. Anybody finding it difficult to capture photos if there is a slight movement? I mean it seems to be impossible to capture my kids picture as they move a lot. Any suggestion guys?

Take a look at the Samsung Galaxy S7/S7 Edge, HTC 10, LG G5, Huawei P9/P9 Plus, iPhone 7/7 Plus, Google Pixel/Pixel XL, OnePlus 3/3T and many more flagships do not come with FM Radio... these are the best phones out there and you complain about FM Radio? Are you for real? Move on and get a backup phone (like a midrange phone) so you can get FM Radio.

Comparing mate 9 with mi max. I have been using mi max for 9 months and jump wagon to mate 9 ,3days ago. Well there is pretty much not amaze with mate 9 in many ways 1. Price tag is almost 3time but there is no superior in speed 2. Using some app like fb in mate 9 has glitches but not in mi max. 3. Battery drain quite fast compare to mi max . 4. At least both no heating issued 5. Camera is the only selling point in mate 9

Im using the mate 9 for more than a month now & it's good as new. I don't have any problems regarding battery & touchscreen. The battery is last more than a day,which obviously depends on the user tho. The touchscreen are doing great as well.

I've been using mate 9 for a month now. The battery life is great as well as the super charging & camera. On my observations, the battery life depends on the user(obviously). If you use wifi,the battery will last more than a day(if you don't have any third party apps running) but if you use data connection,the battery drains faster. But it still last for a day though(for regular use). It took 1 1/3 hour to fully charge but less than an hour when aeroplane mode activated(unbothered). There's 2 battery saver mode on this phone; 1. Power saving mode 2. Ultra saving mode The video recorder is too shaky though but overall it's a great phone.
