Hi Mercy, Just press bottom left(fn)button and immediately press next button(sys). You can see a new screen which contain many buttons. Just check whether phone button is enabled or not(If enabled means the button will be visible in blue color comparing with other disabled button.)

Ahh....I forgot to add... Because of the Win Mo operating system, the 8502 comes with the mobile version of Internet Explorer, which really responds to the stylus but not finger commands... So another important add-on is to install either Opera 10/11 or Opera 5 Mini browser software, both of which provide a similar and far better browsing experience, much better text alignment and finger-based page movement/scrolling.

I bought this phone from Expansys almost a year ago for about $100, but only recently have started trying to use it...and make it work for me the way I want... I have a generally good opinion of the phone and its features, but my model has a horrible quality 2 MP camera for some reason that produces very soft, blurry photos. Other than that, and that may be just some fault with my model, there's a lot to like. My phone came preloaded with Win Mo Pro 6.1. The manufacturer, I-Mate, is out of business, so they're not providing any support or firmware updates. And all the I-Mate customizations were either gone or inactive on my mobile. The good things about this phone are: a very crisp and good quality display screen, a small compact size while also having a full QWERTY keyboard, excellent connectivity with quad-band GSM and 3 of 4 3G frequencies (excluding 900), meaning it can access 3G worldwide, very good wifi B/G connectivity. It also connects easily to all my Windows PCs, including Win 7 OS, via MS Activesynch or Windows Mobile Device Center for Win 7. The phone charges and connects via a standard micro USB plug. But because it's a WinMo 6.1 touchscreen, out of the box, the phone relies heavily on using the two included stylus pens (one and a spare provided) that slide into the body of the phone. I don't personally like using the stylus especially when I'm on the move or out and around. But there are solutions. I did a couple of things to make the phone work better for me, including installing the SPB shell software, which overlays the WinMo OS and allows the phone to function much better via finger touch commands to the screen. The software doesn't come with much documentation, but once you figure it out, it's highly customizable and allows you to basically create either 3 or 5 home screens that you can access via horizontal finger slides... So I set up mine with the center home page as containing the key icons/functions I want, and then, the two screens to the right of that with one for music/audio functions/programs and the other for video/photo functions. I then set up the two other screens to the left of my home screen, one for phone utilities/commands and the other for other misc. programs I've installed. I'm a big guy with big hands, so the keyboard with its relatively small and closely space keys is a bit tough to use, though I can if I really try and the keyboard itself has a good and responsive feel. So instead, I installed the Resco keyboard software that gives you a highly customizable on-screen keyboard that you can use via finger or stylus.... So after a fair amount of fiddling and adding on some extra software, it's a pretty sweet, good looking, good functioning phone. My only real irk is about the camera, and I'm afraid that's likely to be a lost cause.

hey try hard resetting your device you can do it by keep pressing Fn+green answer key and then press the reset key using stylus it'll ask for conformation and your device is master resseted

Yes you can.I have connected my laptop to the imate using the usb cable then selected on the phone: start- programs - internet sharing (this is an icon) I was able to connect to the internet using my t mobile account this way. Worked fine.

Yes it works fine with T mobile. Picks up 3g and everything very fast. I haven't got an unlimited data plan but have only been charged a few pence although I surf often (I'm in UK). It's very quick on the net. Loaded Opera 10, TomTom sat nav, and loads of other stuff works fine.

Got the imate 8502 on 5/5/2010 to replace my trusty ipaq 2790 which I have carried for the past 5 years and also my cell cell phone. It came preloaded with windows mobile 6.1 and office mobile 6.1 (a definite plus). Works just as well as my old ipaq. Wifi works very well as does the gps. The microsd slot will take cards over 2GB. The keyboard does take getting used especially if you have large hands but the feel is nice. Camera takes decent pictures as well. Good voice quality and it imported all my contacts from my old sim to the camera without incident except I lost my pictures on the contact list. You can browse the internet easily on this puppy and download to your hearts contact - 3g is a great! I am on AT&T.

@ Karthik Mate, Imate is a windows based mobile. You cant install '.sis' files. It should be in '.cab' format. look out for software in that particular format. Cheers

@ Nidhi As far as i understand your question you not able to download nimbuz from your imate powered by vodafone internet. If you not able to download that on your mobile, it could be two reasons. 1. Nimbuz might be banned there. 2. You have not properly configured the internet on your system. Otherway, you can go to the nimbuz website, download it on to the storage card and install it from there. Hope this helps....

@ Glen If you want to activate the wireless, you have an option in the today screen, where you can see "Tur on wireless" Or else, yo could go to start>settings>connection the Wi-Fi, activate it. Once you activate the wi fi, it searches for all the wifi network in the vicinity and you can choose your wireless network from there. Cheers

honestly and friendly advise, this thing looks good, but please please if you don't want to make your life miserable don't use the i-mate phone, they hired incompetent programmer or I guess a cheap programmer. They don't really use their brain in making the phone more reliable and ease of use. You need to press lots of functions in order to have a simple call specially in very urgent moment. Always you're making mistake because of their style!!!!

beware! don't keep this phone in the pocket pouch with the screen facing out, if you bump it the button with shatter the screen... If anyone out there is unfortunate enough to do this and you need to keep working, just pop a blank txt file in the root directory of the phone, named: welcome.not and it will get you past the screen calibration.

I have been using I Mate Pocket PC for 5 years and initially I too had problems of hanging, slowness etc. The fundamental rule to speedy system is to have less number of running programs. You should apply it as well to the WM systems. You must go to system and shut close all non-used programs that running at the background which consumes considerable energy and pulls down the speed. Shutting down blue tooth, reducing screen luminance and reducing the length of screen glow etc will enhance battery life. The only problem I found with Imates in general is that it ruthlessly shuts down below 25% of battery life and does not connect blue tooth aswell. Otherwise It is a fantastic office assistant and I strongly recommend go for Imate. Especially the 8502 is great. Good luck.

hi buddies, I too was very sceptic till I got this phone from my dubai friend. However this turned out to be a good phone after all. I too was not very happy with main camera and overall battery life. However after an upgrade to WM 6.1 from WM6 I can say this is working really fine! However I must mention.... It all depends what kinda price you shell out for this.. If you are paying INR 15K (appx 300$) or less go for this or else just find better WM options with htc or samsung. Just to let you know...I just got my htc touch Pro two days back...just wait by openion on dat...in next few days thx

I bought my imate 8502 last month and have loved it ever since. Upgraded the ROM to offiial 6.1 release and tweaked the settings a lil to increase battery life. Though at times it requires a soft reset, the phone is sturdy and stable most of the times. By far its better than HTC touch!!

This is by far the worst phone I ever owned. It was a special offer half pric e so I bought it, first of all, it is very very slow its not funny. 2nd thing, I used to get random crashes, 3rd and most importantly, if I enable multi language support, lets say ARABIC & ENGLISH, I will not be able to enter any password in any password field while using Internet Explorer, So i udpated to Windows Mobile 6.1 as adviced by imate but no luck, I have to disable multi language support to be able to type a password, which is really very annoying coz you have to restart the whole phone to do this. and I need arabic as I live in Dubai. I had many fights/arguments with imate until they finally refunded the phone although I had used it for 3 months. NEVER EVER buying an i-mate in my life anymore.

For those who found battery problem in 3G mobile set regardless of brands. I have a solution for this issue. Just turn off your 3G from network and allow only GSM network. 3G network sucks battery power because of high frequency. On the other hand GSM utilize low frequency. Turn off 3G network practice will let your mobile stay more days.

wait.. i forgot something and unfortunately i cant edit my previous post. my imate 8502 is now dressed with silicon case. imho, silicon case is a must have accessories for gadget w/ qwerty keyboard. sil-case will protect your gadget from and collision and worn-out caused by your hand. since 8502 is very rare, then i cant find suitable sil-case. i tried, i tried and i found that sil-case for BB Storm is fit to 8502. just need a little adjustment in keyboard and battery socket.

Great gadgets!!!! never had touch-screen, full-qwerty, 360 jog-dial, and scroll wheel, all attached in one gadget. though it's keyboard smaller than BB, but it's still comfortable, no slip. since i was non-WM user, i got disappointed with battery-life. but when i share to WM community, then i must accept the condition that winmos is battery drainer. fortunately i have portable power supply so that i can recharge this gadget easily without finding wall-electric-socket. another cons point is about design. since this gadget is not popular, it is very difficult to find suitable accessories such as screen protector, casing, battery, etc.

At first happy with the solid design. It was great phone. It was with me for half a year. But there are a few problems 1. Battery Life. (stand by time only last for 1 night. even i didn't use for whole night) 2. Always hang when I am not using it for a few hours. 3. Alarm did come up or hang. 4. Joystick not working properly. 5. If i need to restart, have to remove the battery cover first. Very troublesome if you are using hard casing to protect the phone. For those reasons I had to let this phone go.

Hey! the phone comes with "Stand by" after 2 mins by default. you can also turn of the "touch screen" when on call. All your problems are configuration issues. I have this phone an i love it!!

When I bought this phone I enjoyed it for the first couple of weeks. Then the problems started. First of all the touch screen is to sensitve, My ph always turns of the ring tone so I dont hear calls comming in, then it calls people on my contacts list all by itself. And now to top it all off, its turned itself off and I cannot get it on again AARGHH!!

Love the phone! Apart from the alarm problem, everything works fine. A suggestion would be to add a separate memory card and install all your programs on that. I have a lot of softwares installed and the performance is still outstanding.

Very, very nice phone. I got mine about 2 or 3 weeks ago. Yes, it has Italian. As for freezing, I've had no problems at all; I would consider a hard reset and watching which apps you've installed. The only problem may be a COM conflict for GPS, but you can just change the COM port in the software settings (I personally haven't had issues with it, but heard others have). Bluetooth works great, hanven't tried Wifi, and GPS is awesome - esp. since it's standalone, not aGPS! My biggest concern is battery life, but so far it seems decent. If you have questions, you should visit forums.imate.com.

I just got my 8502. It looks like BBC is not working w/ 8502, at least w/ AT&T in US. I have tried 4 versions of BBC unsuccessful, I am not getting a PIN w/ neither. Current issues: Since I've been using this phone one issue I've been having is with the alarm alert. W hen I set it for the morning, the alert appears, but I get no sound. When I reset or switch of the phone and re boot, followed by setting the alarm again, then it solves the issue with no sound. I think this might have something to do with syncing the phone with active sync prior to the alarm going off. Also when I add device lock to the Today screen, if I press lock twice too quickly then it confuses the phone into displaying unlocked when it is in facked still locked (a problem I never encountered on any other PPC I've owned) a soft reset will cure this....

Also the touch screen itself I find very responsive. In fact out of the HTC Touch, Xda mini s, and Glofiish M800, which I have owned, the Imate 8502 has the best touch screen of them all). It seems to be made from more durable material than the usual touch screens but still manages to retain very good response from both finger and stylus. Best of the bunch! :)

Got it today and had a little play around with my new 8502. To sart off, it feels like a nice solid phone one that feels like it has'nt been pulled out of a Chrismas cracker. It does'nt feel flimsy. The navigation stick is not loose and the same goes for the buttons like the jog wheel etc...Even the stylus clicks firmly into place and takes some good force to take it out. One gripe, is that they have placed the speaker at the back of the device.(Not a good idea if you have it sitting on your settie) Would it have not been better to put them on the either side? One issue I have is that when I connect my headphones to listen to Mp3's, it activates the voice dialing option, although not a major issue, it can be annoying at times. That said, the sound quality with a good set of headphones is spot on, no faults there. The volume through the loudspeaker is very good and it's loud and clear. The memory card slot is just at the side behind the battery cover although you only need to remove the cover and not the battery to gain access to it. A down side is that it only takes up to 2gb mem card, forget anything higher than that. What about the qwerty keyboard? Well, you'll get used to them. I find it better to type like I would if I was texting as opposed to the use of both hands. The phone is fast when navigating through the menus and various apps (faster than the Glofiish M800 and HTC Touch). Overall, a nice phone and the best PPC I've owned...

imate freezes quite a bit as well as problems while you are on a call. no problems with that on i780. The battery life on i780 is amazing dont even need the other battery the imate's battery life is okay.

Any info about the screen? In the specs is written QVGA, but I think it should be VGA just as the others Ultimates.. Just the perfect phone if it's with a VGA screen! I rly love this model(can't choose between this one and the 8150..:P) Cheers!

It has FM Radio! Also it will be released in December in the USA and some others.. Soon after this avail. online all over the World!;] Ultimate series-the best! Real UMpC in defaut phone sizes/weight!

I just made a little comparison about all the devides w/ 3.5G/EDGE/WiFi/Bluetooth/GPS. For me, based upon the tech specifications, it seems, that I-mate 8502 is the best pick. Does anyone know, when will it be available?Will it be this year? (i guess, it should come out before xmas...)

I think imate is serious this time about the release. They have completely revamped their website and two additional ultimate sets are also being released, the 6150 and 8150. Check it out at www.imate.com.

Looks good. But, is it's bite just as good as it's bark? I'm pretty sure it doesn't support Half Rate Speech. We'll be getting plenty of dropped calls.
