Lenovo Tab 4 8 Plus - User Reviews

  • Does anyone know whether a replacing, newer model, is coming up soon? It's a great product, but in the market for more than 2.5 years. Thanks!

  • This is 2 years late and 3 OS generations behind.

  • Hi, Tab 8 4 Plus has been updated to Android 8.1 Oreo.

  • Especially answering calls has become impossible. Slide function doesn't work, you have to slide beyond the frame in order to accept or reject calls.

  • I got one update that made things worse rather than better. Nice hardware though.

  • How to update Android from noughat to Oreo

  • Hey you can enable the volte option. Go tomsearch in settings and type enhanced mode . There you can see the option to enable volte.

  • Yes it has been updated to Android Oreo.

  • Hi Could someone please kindly confirm if this tablet has now been updated to Oreo 8.0 or 8.1? There seem to be confusion as to the exact version. If Yes is there a changelog of changes & improvements? And also if so apart from the visual UI changes has there been know enhancements to the screen (quality and calibration seem "off" and inaccurate and look "artificial"), audio (speakers could be a bit louder and better sounding), performance (app loading & memory management could be better), battery life (First few days of the Oreo update was apparently poor) and the lack thereof of full dark mode.

  • Yes, if you use the right Type-C To USB OTG Cable, then it does!!! I have the 04F Variant (Only Wi-Fi, No 3G or 4G), Rooted w/ SuperSU, but on Stock ROM, running Android 7.1

  • Is there an OTG?

  • Hi, my tab is presently running on Android O and I am using Airtel sim in it. There is absolutely no problem in calling. The only problem that you will face is while using Jio sim as this tab is not volte enabled. However, that may be overcome by installing My Jio app.

  • I have one running Android 7.1 and it does NOT support calling. There is no dialer/phone application.

  • Does it support calling after oreo update?????

  • Nothing serious. I was referring to the occasional delay in touch screen response while scrolling. But, truly speaking, that is not a serious issue and does not occur frequently. Otherwise, this tab is a gem at this price range.

  • What lag?

  • Hi guys, I am facing a peculiar problem since couple of days. My tab is not recognising the Kindle app. In spite of several installations and reload, I am simply unable to open the app. I have even done factory reset also. No luck. But, it is working fine with my OnePlus 6. Any idea, what may be the reason?

  • Any idea whether this tab is going to get any software update in the near future? The touch screen lag is really irritating.

  • Yes i can ....

  • But the question is, are you able to call with Jio sim after Oreo update?

  • Yes you can use the upper speaker for phone calls....

  • No, that is not true, I make and receive calls normally....

  • No, it does not do calling after Oreo update

  • Yes, there is a serious issue. After Oreo update, the calling facility is not there. I am unable to make or receive any call from my Jio sim. Even not able to use by Jio mobile data. Very unfortunate and unacceptable from a company like Lenovo

  • Does anybody know whether the uper speaker can be used to make phone calls or you have to use a a headset?

  • Of course yes...

  • any update on this ?

  • an Important Question: Can this Tablet make Phone Calls like regular smartphone ? not through internet

  • Hello. No..no problems with wifi or internet... The issue that I had for about a year is the SD card wasn't recognized...but it's been fixed on this last update.

  • Please any one write the buy online link, specifically Asian country...Bangladesh. Lenovo tab 4 8 plus LTE Versions: TB-8704X, SIM card supported.

  • If this happens to the next update please be patient,it would take a lot of time also this happened to my friends lenovo device but it got updated

  • Hi, does anyone who owns the 4GB RAM, 64GB, LTE version have any problems with connectivity (wifi or LTE) and/or the issue with destroyed microSD cards? I have been reading about these problems A LOT in user reviews of other versions, but not for this particular one. Thanks for all your inputs

  • You are alone. Many are reporting issues with the update. There is a solution for a failed update about two thirds of the way through the thread at this link.

  • got the update for Oreo, it bricked my tablet, stuck on Lenovo screen, I may have a bad unit...

  • @Gino 2. It has a Dolby Atmos app that has a 10 band equalizer and toggles for "Volume Leveler" and "Bass Enhancer". 5. The only scaling options I found was a font size adjustment.

  • I also just got the Oreo 8.1 update here in the USA on my TB-8704X. No issues. @Gino 1. The tablet works fine with my chromecast. 2. Not sure. 3. Yes, it has a 1x1 ac radio so 433 Mbps link speed. 4. Per Wikipedia on the snapdragon 625 the ram is Single‑channel, 32‑bit, 933 MHz, (7.5 GB/s) 5. Not sure what you are asking here. The display specs are listed on this site. As far as font size and screen scaling it has the default Android options.

  • Just got the Oreo update on my tablet today here in the UK, everything working fine so far

  • With regards to reading a standard single page spread of a Marvel comics which tablet aspect ratio would be ideal: a 16:10 or a 4:3 like the iPad Mini 4?

  • I have more questions on this tablet: 1. Does this have full Chromecast support (and with Chromecast symbol on the drop down shortcuts)? 2. Does it have bass feature under the Dolby Audio Settings? 3. Does this support 5Ghz and ac wifi? 4. is the RAM of LPDDR3 or LPDDR4 variant? 5. What screen quality & resolution settings does it have?

  • I need to know...In your opinion between Huawei (with their Media Pad tablets), Lenovo (with Tab 4 lineup) and Xiaomi (Mi Pad 4) which company would you consider is doing more initiative in releasing updates (security, major Android updates, etc.) more quicker, more often and more longer?

  • I have the 4gb ram 64gb rom model and it always says unable to find sim on booting up. But once it's booted up it's fine and can see everything on SD without problem. I think slot if people have same problem. I'm used to it now so it doesn't bother me.

  • Hey is there any issue with sd card?

  • Indira, I suspect that you are experiencing some kind of wifi router incompatibility causing the network disconnects. I have had consistent network connectivity with not a single dropoff. Also the tablet has a Phone app so it is certainly able to tap out phone numbers. I cannot confirm whether VOLTE works because I don't have a SIM. But once could certainly use Line, Whatsapp, Skype, Hangouts, etc. to make calls over WiFi,

  • I ordered the 8704 submodel for Thailand with dual SIM (SIM 2 can be used for MicroSD card). 4Gb ROM 64Gb user RAM. (submodel ZA2F0067TH). I researched this model heavily before ordering it. I have been using Android 7" and 8" tablets ever since the first: Samsung Galaxy Tab (GT-P1000). Nexus 7, Samsung GT-P6800, Samsung Galaxy Tab S2. My purpose for this tablet is very specific: for watching on a treadmill at home (where I can use the built in front facing stereo speakers) and at the gym (where I would use earphones). The tablet is perfect for this purpose. Here are my pros and cons: PROS: - excellent ROM memory to allow plenty of working memory while watching local and streaming video - a good amount of user memory for me to store video files while flying (including downloadable Netflix videos) - option of using tablet as a real phone (not just for data download) - loud audio levels with clarity while on the treadmill (but certainly not for vivid music listening) - very bright screen with excellent off-axis viewing - reasonably lightweight - easy to grasp in one hand (reminiscent of Nexus 7) - an excellent replacement for your aging or failed Nexus 7 - fast and accurate fingerprint reader integrated into the power button - performance of tablet is the snappiest of all of the tablets I listed above. See YouTube for information about game performance because I am not a gamer. CONS: - The resolution is merely adequate for web and email but less desirable for things like reading e-books and newspapers. - Lenovo is highly unlikely to ever issue major version updates for the Android operating system. - XDA-DEVELOPERS.COM forums show no serious work for rooting this tablet and manually upgrading the operating system. So you should expect that the Android version as shipped is what you will use for the lifetime of the device. TIP: Looking at the version being offered in the US, the Thai and Asian versions seem to be equipped with more ROM and RAM than the US models. Read the specs carefully before ordering! Try to find a reputable online vendor if you're going to order from outside your home country! BOTTOM LINE: Would I do it again? YES. This is not theoretical. I think I am going to order a second one to keep in the US for my gym use. It looks like this model is getting more difficult to obtain. That's not surprising because it was issued over a year ago. I don't see anything that comes close specs-wise. I thought of the Costco price for the Samsung Galaxy Tab A. But this is FAR BETTER EQUIPPED in just about every way. Compare the specs here and you will probably agree. Good luck, fellow nerds.

  • I am using model 8704x,dual sim, it does support volte, Jio sim working well.

  • The tablet does not have a compass. It is a pity about the magnetic compass. Also don't have clipboard memories on build up keayboard need to insstal 3rdparty clipboard apps instead. Well get used to using these devices as more than just a phone and its a real deal breaker when a new gadget has less hardware in it or the hardware doesnt work properly.

  • You always should go check the model number on the manufacturer website, after gsmarena checking. that way you are confirmed specs.

  • I got carried away by seeing the specs that this is a calling tab. I was under the impression that this will support VoLTE. But it will not. There is no dial pad to make it a calling tab. Further the device is going out of network every few minutes needing us to reset network, most disgusting. We fail to understand why Lenovo made this so when world over is migrating to VoLTE. In India all major ISPs are already on VoLTE releasing this is meaningless and fraud. More do this tab is not optimized at all and we can not be sure of any future company support. Overall I don't advise anyone to buy this tab.

  • I have the Lenovo Tab 4 8 Plus (TB-8704X) and it does indeed support Qualcomm Quick Charge fast charging. With a regular charger I measured it at 10 watts (5Vx2A). With a QC2.0 charger I was able to get 15 watts (9Vx1.67A). I'll answer a few other questions from previous posts: My tablet does have working GPS. I can confirm that the US version does only have 16gb storage and 2 gb RAM. I returned that model because it suffered from lag. The 4 GB ram model does not have the lag. I am able to access the play store and install google apps with this model in the US. The default language was something other than English. I was able to change it during initial setup.

  • It at least doesn't charge any faster than most phones and tabs I've handled.

  • After much research and particularly reading the spec in Gsmarena, this device seemed a very good buy. So I bought the Lenovo Tab4 8 Plus 4G lte variant,16gb with 3gb of ram. To my HUGE disappointment the 3gb version DOES NOT have any GPS / COMPASS sensors in it !! So the device cannot be used a compass or sat nav in the car or any other directional purposes.Even though the stock software has options for the user to choose GPS assist, it is in FACT a con! This is the first and last Lenovo device I will waste my money on. Why the hell do manufacturers and websites purposely mislead the customer? I see there are 2 variants of this device i.e 4gb ram / 64gb storage, maybe this model does have compass magnetic sensors inbuilt? Tread carefully when buying this device.

  • Yep, I bought it, and it does have quick charging

  • Can someone confirm is the tab4 8 Plus actually have quickcharging? Some sites says it does, some says it doesn't. I haven't found a credible source.

  • The 8 inch sized screen is so good, that is why I want to buy the newest version. Where can I buy the version TB-8704X/F for EU, actually The Netherlands, witrh 3GB RAM and 64GB Rom, black version? My present one, 2GB/32GB which was bought in 2015, is already suffering from lagging, interrupted connection to Internet etc.

  • Need your opinion guys. Between this tablet and the iPad mini 4 which do you guys think has a better sounding & clearer / louder audio? (I heard/read that the Tab 4's speakers somewhat sound mono and as if someone has a clogged nose. True?) And in terms of split screen multitasking which one you think supports more apps in split screen mode and one that supports drag n drop e.g dragging a photo on the Photos app to Gmail, etc.?

  • I don't know what is the version of your tablet, but the info here is correct. Main Tab4 8Plus is 16gb 3gb Ram. So maybe your tablet is not Plus version.

  • Only 16gb storage and 2 gb RAM models in US. No built in compass. Does upgrade to Nougat 7.1. GSM Arena needs to update specs. If this model had 3 GB ram I would be very happy. The 2GB ram is ok for leisure basic stuff. I've noticed lag when loading Doppler radar, using Google Earth, and when having multiple apps open. The device actually freezes up with extended Google Earth usage. All the imagary is loaded into ram and fills up pretty quickly then freezes up the device. I was using a friend's Samsung Tab A 10" also with 16 GB memory, 2 GB RAM, and Android 7.1 and I couldn't get it to freeze up. I had a RAM monitor app on and the Samsung would get down to around 260 mb RAM but keep going. I guess the Samsung was managing the RAM better. I had Lenovo Tab4 8 non plus before this and was happier with it considering it was $100 cheaper. It wouldn't show much lag in Google Earth. Weird. Its screen resolution despite having lesser specs was still quite good. Maybe the Plus's higher resolution screen also means more RAM gets used for the higher definition. My only gripe with this device is this 2gb RAM. Otherwise great device. Maybe if the device upgrades to Oreo, things will be better. Oreo is supposed to have better memory management. Great sounding speakers (for a tablet) and they face towards you which is wonderful.

  • Great tablet. bought as a replacement for my wife´s sony z3 compact tablet. It´s really good for the price.

  • Bought this tablet and returned it as it was super buggy after all updates were installed.Speakers are amazing but software was unreliable, froze up from time to time.Lockscreen wallpaper would change on you no matter what you did.Not a good experience whatsoever.Screen was not as bright as I thought it would be.

  • Lfor $143 form Chinese website you bought the Lenovo tab 3 8 plus not tab 4 8 plus...

  • Like Lenovo's Motorola phones does this tablet come with some form of IP rating (basic IP52/53 rating) or some form of "advance nano coating" that makes it safe with spills or odd rain drop/glass of water?

  • Yup

  • lenovo tab 4 8 plus tb-8704x 4g lte is dual sim

  • Please tell what are you doing to solve the problem with a Chinese version because I bought this tablet (Lenovo tab 4 8 plus - Model:TB-8704N) and I wish I can install gapps (google apps) on it but I can't as you know that before, So, please tell me what are you doing to solve that issue, kindly be informed that I heared that I can install the Global version (TB-8704x) on it, please help me !!

  • yup, brand new.bought it from a site called Qoo10...they had a promotion for this tablet which is a China variant and even supports LTE and WiFi.there are a few models of this tablet and the one i have is model TB-8704N which is the China variant.the Euro variants should be TB-8704X/F.after inquiries with the seller i found out that the supplier they got the tablet from actually flashed an unofficial rom on the tablet in order to get the Google Playstore in the tablet since the original China rom doesn't have Google Services installed.it does come with the usual Android Nougat but i'm not sure if it can get future official firmware updates since its running on a unofficial rom.

  • Where did u find it for that cheap?Brand new?

  • i bought this tablet for around USD$143.mind you this is the Plus model which actually retails for around USD$270.Even though this was a chinese export model,it came with a global rom with Google Playstore installed which is quite convenient for me since i don't have to manually install google services which is not readily available mobile devices from China...

  • Need this tab in Indonesia T.T

  • When lenovo start selling this tab in indonesia?

  • I have an old Sony Xperia Z3 Compact Tablet. It has been with me for a while now but it slowly showing its age in terms of software (stuck forever at 6.0.1) and performance. Battery life still seems solid but I feel not for long. The UK has the 3GB version of this tablet which is not fair for us fans/customers. I heard the front-firing speakers are "meh'" and "so-so". But in terms of the speakers of this tablet and mine which one you guys think is louder & clearer in real terms (disregarding Dolby Atmos or otherwise)?

  • It can be used for internet only (you cant make calls from it) it can have 2 sim's or (1 sim 1 sd card- 2nd sim slot and sd slot is in same place so SD or 2nd sim)

  • Is the TB-8704X dual sim as the manual shows ? does it have an earpiece for using it as a phone ?

  • When will this tab be sold in Indonesia?

  • the one sold in Saturn had the non LTE version with only quad core processor ! i wonder why the german market is like from the Ice age when it comes to Tech stuff -_-

  • Is it upgradable to Oreo?

  • does this have sim slot? can connect to wifi and mobile data?

  • When will this available in Indonesia?

  • I can confirm that the tablet that I received 10/15/2017 from Amazon shipped with Nougat 7.1.1 and does include an ambient light sensor to answer some previous questions. Using the tablet I am noticing a lot of lag which is unfortunate. I'm guessing it's mostly due to the 2 GB of ram although my 2013 Nexus 7 only has 2 GB of ram and doesn't seem to have the lag. Perhaps Lenovo did not do a good job with optimizing the OS on their device. I chose this tablet over similar tablets with the 652 SoC due mostly to it being much more power efficient by using the new 625 SoC. At this point I think I will return and try one of the 652 tablets that come with 3 GB of ram and deal with more frequent charging.

  • How to connect to TV?

  • How to connect to TV?

  • Yep, I copied over a few movies from a USB key last night.

  • Did this product support OTG.....??????

  • Price tag, what are u thinking?

  • Is this tablet splash-resistant or has some nano coating to protect against the odd water spills? Are the speakers front-firing? And is there a Nougat 7.1.1 update currently available? Battery life any good?

  • No gyroscope in 2017? Is this a joke? What were they thinking?

  • voice calling??

  • Yes, you can use it as a phone.

  • Does this one have ambient light sensor? The standard (non-Plus) version does not. Very annoying!

  • Don't bother ordering this tablet in the US or Canada, they've downgraded the specs to 16GB/2GB and no plans to release the 64GB/4GB model. There glass back is no more; they switched it out to a soft touch backing(same as the standard models). If you still want it, you're better off importing it or buying something else entirely.

  • does anyone know that it has calling facility or not?

  • That's true. I bought that tablet at Monday and I've just verified that the compass sensor is missing.

  • For those of us in the US, B&H has some of the plus models for preorder!

  • I am just wondering when the tab will be available in the Nigerian market. Does anyone know please? Thanks.

  • Lenovo Tab4 8plus has no compass sensor. Many navigation apps have not function well.

  • yepp!

  • In Germany at Saturn.de the price for the 8" will be 299 euro (339 dollar) and the 10" 399 euro (452 dollar) that is for the 64GB with 4GB ram. Shipping starts in 5 weeks.

  • Leno P70 (4000MAh) 2014 charging as fast galaxy s8, so i assume will carry fast charging because this is 2017. Leno easily borrow from motorola technology.

  • Does anyone know if this will come with a phone dialer to make/receive calls?

  • they're currently delaying this until august coz Snapdragon 625 will be kinda outdated chip(right now 625 is still classified as premium midrange SoC) and probably it will be more cheaper since SD 630 and 660 will be the norm! so in that time they can mass produce this.... (SIGHS)

  • unfortunately, the xiami has no GSM so, the only alternative seams to be the Huawei M3.

  • Xiaomi Mi Pad 3? That looks like a really solid alternative. I think I'll buy whichever comes first in a store nearby. Due to possible warranty issues I don't like buying hardware from online vendors without any local brick and mortar presence.

  • August? That's a very big delay for something that was promised in May. I was looking to buy this one.. but this way I'll have a better chance with a Xiaomi.

  • Lenovo Finland said that they expect to get the tablets in late July/early August.

  • 1. need information when this lenovo tab4 8 plus release on malaysia? 2. is this lenovo tab4 8 plus support fast battery charging? 3. is this lenovo tab4 8 plus support OTG ? thank you if anyone can reply me :)

  • Anyone know if there will be a windows version to this tablet? And the actual release date. It's the end of May already

  • Will it support exFAT?

  • 4 8 plus when I gutted this product

  • I am looking forward also to buy this tablet As expected it will be released on May Just wait and see

  • any news with regards to the release date? im excited with this tablet..

  • any news with regards to the release date? im excited with this tablet..

  • Any news about the release data?

  • I can't wait to get this when t's released. It seems like a great fit to replace my old shield tablet.

  • Sim yes

  • I suspect the 190Euro will be the 3Gb,/16Gb WiFi only version.

  • It looks nice, very similar to Sony Xperia compact tab 3, but anyway, who doesn't copy these days? Nice work

  • 8 inch plus is verrrrry verrrrrrry good tablet for me and my son about my son I will be happy to buy kids pack for him im waitting for this tab

  • Not bad at all Lenovo is company with good business sense and excellent pricing strategy.

  • Tab 4 8 Plus is really nice tablet (on paper) sd625+3/4gb ram+dual speakers+190 euro!
