Mine came with a 32mb card but takes 1gb,any larger and it doesnt work. I got mine when they first came out and not a moments problem.Its still like new with a screen cover on the only thing is the little earphone jack cover is missing a corner.The phone does everything inc( To gsma,) video recording.The wife got me 2 new original batteries of ebay @ a year ago,the phone is robust, reliable, the battery life is great and had it been multi touch you,d never need another phone, and thats coming from someone who owns a perfect working samsung jet and galaxy s. P.S The guys whosaid good sound, its the best i've ever heard on a phone, those original metal earphones that came with it are just like listening to a home hifi, that base ooooooooooo. lol.

I had one of these for 3 years until i dropped it too many times and the mic stopped working. i have an iphone now but if this had been given the same support as the iphone it would have stormed the market. apps were much harder to find but the gps worked ok, i had software to veiw and edit or create office files, it was the first phone that i could email with, it could video call which my iphone 3gs can't and i had some pretty cool games on it. If only motorola had thought of an itunes store. shame to see it go but i am putting it in the dead phone bin as a phone with no mic is just a waste of space. alas poor yorick.

If its blocked to all networks you need your friend to contact the network it was originally on, in his name. Otherwise you cant unblock and its worthless.

V635 was my dream phone...only I couldn't get one from where I live! (they never sold it!) I digged out my V60i last week and tried to charge it with one of my old charger in my office...sorry, it didn't work. I still have many other Moto phones (in my collection) using such old type of charger plug, such as V600, E398 & A1000. For most others, one alternative is to get an extra battery and battery charger (which are still widely available in HK). However, for A1000, there has never been a stand alone battery charger. Last year Moto in HK had a campaign called Moto Wish, which was about a charity program. My Moto wish this year is for Moto to: 1)Come out with some kind of adapter so I can re-use these great old phones. 2)Re-release these phones (perhaps with higher specs, but not really necessary as I'm still quite happy with them) with mini-USB charger plug. Yes, Moto pioneered the use of mini-USB plug, including charging ability, before most everybody else.

I have had this A1000 phone PDA for well over 3 years, I have found ways round problems, with the help of services. I is a business phone, not a toy. Like most other's, that are available on the high street. It could take best part of half a year to know how it works, as many apps are available for this phone PDA. I also have a Sony Ericsson P910i, that runs on the same operating system.

I've had a Motorol A1000 for just over 2 years. Overall I'm pleased with it. However, I've lost my CD that came with it - can I get another one or download the software from the net? I've already replaced the battery but still discharges very fast 2 -3 hours. Also keeps shutting down and reboots asking what language I want to use, once I ticked the wrong box(for chinese) and the whole thing turned into chines characters - it was a nightmare - only with the help of an amateur computer geek we managed to get it back to english. I've mostly used it as a phone, only recently to check my emails. How does one use the other functions ie powerpoint. any help much appreciated

great phone, had 3 years ago, but use only as a pda for organiser functions at mo and other phone for calls etc. why dont motorola make an updated version real hard to find a 3G fast 3.6mbps, wifi, touchscreen, semilight (no bogus pullout hefty keypads)..- that would be even better than iphone!!!

Mariat! You need the Motorola p2k driver pack. Look for that in Google and download... when installing the driver in Windows, show the library where you store those direvers.

I just got a copy of A1000 handset. Beleive me it is a magnificent phone. However I have had difficulty connecting to the PC via USB cable. The PC recognises it anytime i attach the USB cable linked to the handset but I get the responses "No handset connected" any time a try using the office suite installed on my PC from the installation CD. I guess the USB drivers might be the problem. Can any one help me resolve this problem.

This is the best Phone ever, easy to use, lots of feutures, tracker 4.0 and you'll have a Windows Phone easy acces to applications, and the handwriting recognition excellent, I have this phone for 3 months within 2 weeks it got freeze because of a conflict with Tracker 2.0 but after searching I got it reset and now with the version 4.0 is excellent, i can view documents I also download miniexcell and I edit my documents too, 2gb memory and I load almost 500 songs this is great, easily make voice recordings, or take notes, I'm in love with this, yeash the wake up is slow, but I don't have to shut it down I keep it on, that is why phone have backlight timing so you keep it on, overall I thing there is no comparison with any other device, some may have better camera, or better mp3 player, or they good pda, but this ones has everything on 1 piece. how to set up the internet for cingular. Here is some info you may find useful for getting internet access working: (it's a lot, but will make sense once you've read it a few times): To get the email & browsing working, you need an active GPRS connection (mobile data) from your cellular carrier's mobile network to the internet (NOT to their WAP pages which are different), so you may have to check GPRS is enabled on your account. Ring them up and ask to speak to the 'data' or GPRS helpdesk then ask for two things: 1] the name of the email server that they user for outgoing mail - it'll be "smtp.carrier.com: or something similar; 2] their GPRS APN (Access Point Name) that they use, it'll be something like "internet" or "netgateway" or "gprsapn" rather than a number like 120.020.3.121 so expect that. The APN is the name of their gateway between the internet and their GPRS mobile data network. From the internet I found this for Cingular (for example), it'll be faster if you do a google search for your carrier's internet GPRS APN: GPRS APN: - isp.cingular (this is what you want from your carrier) Username: - [email protected] Password: - CINGULAR1 DNS: - 66.209.10.201, 66.209.10.202 I believe that you will ONLY need the internet APN to get access to the internet, not all the stuff about username/password etc, and it's much more likely that the DNS will be dynamically allocated by the network, so try configuring your handset only with the APN of isp.cingular and see how it works. Read the next section: Once you have the APN, you will get access to the internet, and be able to browse the internet on your handset So, back to the GPRS APN. you need to put in isp.cingluar into the correct section so go to the setup panel (top rhs icon on screen) and got to 'control panel' and select the 'general' tab, then 'Default-Gprs account'. There should be an account name called 'internet' and the address (or in the case the APN) is also internet. Press the stylus into the box next to 'address' and delete whatever is there and write in isp.cingluar (or whatever is correct for your carrier) ensuring that there is no space between the . and cingular. Now your internet access should be ready, and press the browser and it should prompt you for the gateway you want to use. Choose the one called 'internet' (the one you just edited and saved) and you should now connect to the network and the status box will go from 'initialising' to 'searching' - this means that you're connected and in business. Press stop (the red X at the bottom of the browser screen), then browser, bookmarks and choose google, then the handset should search for the google page and you're in business. If you're not successful, try this a few times before entering in the password and username etc above, and then try again before attempting the DNS setting in the default-gprs/log in page - I've never had to use these! You should then be up and running so you'll want to go to other web sites - choose the browser and then 'open page' and type in whatever you want as the url (I used www.google.com/palm and also ) and it should connect and display the page. Remember to bookmark these pages so you can get them next time.

I have this phone and it's verry smart , compared to a P910 . I finally managed to make the internal GPS start working , and its a cool featoore . Wherever i take the phone out , many people (known persons) ask me a lot of questions about it . I got it from "Orange" mobile operator and has one of the latest SW version. PS. for the GSM ARENA folks the phone has 168 MHz processor and 32 MB of RAM memory (the amount of RAM memory can be found in : "Control Panel" and tap "Handset Information"). I saw versions of A1000 with 24 MB of RAM and rarely 32 MB versions .

A1000 Recent purchase March06. I am happy with all of the features.....except. Nobody including the GuRu's at Motorola can tell how to change the destination file folder known as "unfiled" when synchronising with Outlook contacts on PC. The default "unfiled" folder can't be edited and renamed. This is an essential part of syncing databases especially when changes are made and you wish to update other copies on other devices that you may have. The files keep going back by default into the "unfiled" folder instead of the folder where the contacts are kept eg. personal or business. This means that you have to transfer them all again to the correct folder "one by one" The belief or claim of compatability with Outlook is not altogether accurate. Look foward to seeing a post on this one.

zeeshan,if its not reading your sim then maybe you dont have a right gsm service for it?like here in MD cellular one has sim cards yet wont work with it(im currently using it with t-mobile for and is currently my personal favorite for it)and as for the sat nav for the otehr person,its doesnt work like regular reception,it needs to be outside on a clear day to a direct connec(will nto work inside) almost take 5-10 mins for it to reach a satellite(thats how it does for me).make sure it is set on autoload map is checked,gps device is set to your phone.hope that helps,and for zeechan internet,not sure buddy.but im no professional,i jsut love motorolas

In the last 11 months my A100 has repeatedly ceased working. Six months after purchase, the handset showed a �memory full� message, froze (so I couldn�t free up any space), then switched itself off and deleted all my games, contacts, texts, etc. Four months later it showed no reception, even when my friends (on the same network) had coverage in the same area. It repeatedly switched itself off and on. It was sent to 3 (UK) for repair twice, yet the problem was only temporarily fixed each time. I was sent a new handset, which suffers from similar problems. 3 have been awful � they forgot to add the compensation they had offered to two bills in a row, and I�m still waiting for it now. I�ll be glad to get rid of this handset � it�s the worst I�ve ever had.

are you jokin when i had this fone it broke practically every month. And i kept loosing my memory. It had very nice features but was still an awful fone. When the new Nokia N80 comes out, this will become the best fone by far, with the same features this fone has but more, including a 3megapixel camera, WLAN/WiFi (for broadband wireless internet) UPnP (for streaming video/pic and music to televisions/stereos, and also you can watch TV on it over 3G! I got it about two months ago and the memory card does not work along with the phone as in, when you save the ringtone to the memory card you still have to install the ringtone to the phone's memory, what can be done to make the memory card work simultaneously with the phone's memory.

I bought this phone 1 month ago, the design is good.. but this A1000 is not a user friendly phone, the weaknesses of this phone are too much...!! the internal memory is very small, only 24 megabytes. If you want to use MP3 as your ringtone, you should install it in your internal memory.. you can't install new software, if you insist, the phone software will crash and you will never be able to use your phone A1000 again...

The Motorola A1000 is a fantastic phone with cuttin edge Technology. The simple and effective touch screen display make the opperation of the phone a doddle! I have had my A1000 for nearly 11 months now. The onle gripe I have about it, is that it can have a problem with switching itself off. The phone does sometime switch itself back on!! Weird of what!! Maybe Mr Motorola, that should be something to look at on your next project phone. Also the camera in the day light is totally the dogs do dars, but when the light starts to fade, there's no Flash!! Even with a good camera, no light means poo pictures! Come on Motorola your heading the right in the direction just add the little touches other companies can do. Such as, flash, image/video editing and sort out the random switching itself off. You will surely be market leaders and take the world by storm!!!

I have A1000 for 2 mounts. (Before I had SE P900 and Sie SX1). A1000 has problems. Sometimes slows down, sometimes lock. It has advantages; 1.2 MP camera and AGPS function. But it has also disadvantages; camera is not good at night (Nokia is much better), no GPS program pre-installed (You have to buy something eg, nhGPS), its firmware designed for 3 mobile. I recommend you to buy SEP910i.

Great phone...although somewhat complex to use. Love the floating keyboard and software which generates the contacts. I did bring the phone to Spain and am unable to eliminate the default GPRS program. Spain doesn't subscribe to the "3" mode and therefore I can't use the phone to its fullest potential. I got the phone now and can now answer what i asked last week. yes, you can use mp3 as ringtones. But you cant just load them into the phone. you have to go to files, and "install" every new mp3 you want to use as ringtone. Everything abou this telephone is great except for one thing: not enough memory. I can only have 4 mp3 songs on it right now. So i have to buy a memory card if i want to use it to play music. But other then that its great.

For me, Motorola A1000 is the ultimate solution to my upgrade problem come September 2005. After reading all reviewers' comments, I am in no doubt that this is what I have been looking for. I would have chosen the Blackberry (aka "Crackberry" due to its addictive nature) for my mobile experience but for the lack of camera and I cannot do without a camera phone. I also considered the Nokia 6680 but I am rather not sure of the TV element - I suspect some functionality might be compromised. I will let you know when I finally make a choice. Whatc this space!

I am due for an upgrade in August. After reading reviews and User's comments, I am not sure I want to get this phone. I had Motorola A 920 previously and never enjoyed it: the battery was unreliable, the screen freezes, the online suite software poor and the cradle never worked. VERY unreliable. I previously owned a Motorola A920 with 925 upgrade. That phone kept having software failure so I upgraded to the A1000. This too has dodgy software. I have several times lost all data as the phone independantly reformats itself! Even three who are usually difficult have agreed to exchange for an alternative phone due to their awareness of the problems. NO it is not just the one phone - three won't even offer another a1000 in exchange because they say I will have the same problems. After being so excited about the phone, and loving it for the first couple of months I am now NEVER buying another motorola smartphone again.

USA USERS PLEASE HELP!! I just bought this phone, supposedly completely unlocked. I'm using cingular as my service provider but I'm having a problem programming it to connect to the internet. I have this bad feeling that the internet is locked into some 3G service provider. No one at cingular knows how to do it since this phone isn't in the US yet. The A1000 in sync with my laptop now after sent in for service at Motorola Singapore. The staff was so professional and friendly. The actual problem was the 3rd party bluetooth adapter installed on my laptop. The A1000 is working fine and now the bluetooth data tranfering is no problem to me. I am very happy with this model.

I looket at many different smartphones before deciding to go with the A1000 and I must say I am very happy with my choise. I like the Symbian UIQ OS, there are loads of applications, games and emulators, everything has worked perfect, the screen is lovely, the battery time is ok. The only thing that annoys me is that it takes like 3 sec for the keyboard to appear when you need to write something, the SE P900/910 is faster in that aspect.

Just bought this monster A1000. Case: amazing, nice, cool and not as heavy as it may seem. Battery: 36 hrs (2hrs talk + standby) after the first charge (8hrs). Software: great but a converter and a file manager are missing (dowloaded free ones, work perfectly). It stucks sometimes when battery is low - sound is great - bluetooth is DA BOMB, fast, stable - Home, who knows how to get rid of the 3 browser labels? - Calls: sounds seem not getting the way you want, always "Hello Moto" - browser is also DA BOMB (and i bought the phone in Hkong from another shop so i can surf free of 3 limitations) - Messages, just amazing - Picsel viewer: AMAZING! Camera: wouldn't say it is a 1.2mp, more like a vga. It actually is more a cool toy to show around than a working tool, but it really does the trick with chicks ;) Got enough cash or a good deal? Get yourself one.

I have got a A1000 here in HK. The phone is great, especially the PDA function. However, some annoying factor is that the phone has been associated the multimedia content details of "3HK". Since I am not the subscriber of 3HK, does somebody know how to remove those useless shortcuts?

This is an excellent phone, I haven't had any problems sycronizing, but i still can't set the multimedia settings and internet settings. texting and the rest of the options are great.installation of additional applications are easy as just point and click.

I agree this phone is a great phone and i agree the camera quality is absolute sh*te in anything less then bright sunlight. Why hasn't anyone brought up the topic of syncing? Wouldn't it be nice if the USB cable that the phone came with actually worked for most people? Many people and i have had problems with it but using a bluetooth dongle apparently fixes it.

Love the phone, it's great and so easy to use. However there are two major problems: 1) The camera is rubbish unless there is daylight, for some unknown reason they didn't include a flash. 2) You have to turn the phone off and remove the battery to get to the memory card. Motorola please sort it out!

Ive had thisphon for a week now and im so impressed. It very easy to use and the camera is quite good aswell. The battery life is good also. It lasts a good full day and thats with snapping pictures and making calls aswell as look at my happy slap videos over and over again.

hi, you need to convert your video clips using a peice of software i cant remember the name of. amongst others the a 1000 can play back mp4 and 3gp files. if you convert the files to these types then the phone will be able to play them. try searching for freeware file conversion software on the net.

Actually we have a VGA and a 1.2Mega pixel camera, I whish was 3M pixel!! A1000 is provided with AGPS (assisted by network) as well as autonomous GPS, I have an ap for GPS (beta), since I'm not in Europe I'm not sure if 3 has any application for autonomous GPS. its a good phone. The only thing that i don't like about motorola is that it doesn't ring and vibrate at the same time, it either rings or vibrate. Also the fact that it doesn't have infra red is critical. Apart from that is a good phone.

If the guy who worked in the Motorola team could contact me, I'm one of the few "lucky" who has the phone (italy). USER BEWARE, every symbian apps could crash your phone. It happened already to 4 people (and I know only 10/15 guys who bought it!!!!). Motorola decided to GIVE NOT the user the chance to reset the phone, so if it will lock for software problems (happened to 4 guys, including MYSELF!!), you have to send it to motorola!!!! Congratulations, motorola......what a big step forward. Hope you won't do any mainboard anytime soon, every time we had to clear the CMOS we will have to bring the mainboard BACK to a MOTO TECH center?!?!?! A REALLY ANGRY GUY!!!!

I work on the A1000 product development team at Mot. We just delivered the first batch of A1000s to 3UK last week so those of you who are interested should be seeing them soon. Some of my thoughts about this phone: A1000 is the newest, more compact version of the dual-processor/SymbianOS platform that made up the A920/A925 phones. The A1000 was developed for the UK, Italy, and Hong Kong markets so you will probably be seeing them pop up there first. While this phone functions well as a PDA IMO the best feature of the phone is the video call performance. If you have never seen a video call over 3G before you must check it out! What I like about this phone: - Much smaller than the 920/925's. It fits better in your pocket! - Dual cameras (front and rear) replaced the rotating camera drum design found on the 920/925's. Rear camera is 3 megapixel for video capture. The front or the rear camera can be used during a video call. - Huge battery for increased time between charges. This is a major improvement over the 920/925. - Cool wireless (bluetooth) earpiece. I think this may be sold as an accessory. What I don't like about this phone: - Takes about 50 seconds to boot up. Thats a long time to wait around if you just want to make a quick call. - The tri-flash (MMC/removable memory card) has been changed to the smaller form factor and its very hard to handle if you have big fingers. The card is about 2/3 the size of the sim card! Even worse, the card is located under the battery (no external slot) so you have to power off the phone to swap out the card. - The design of the stylus is a bit annoying - its flat and it telescopes to half of its usable size for storage in the phone. If you are a moderately firm "screen tapper" then you will find the stylus getting shorter as you tap. This gets worse as the stylus wears from repeated insertions into the phone. All things considered, the A1000 is a nice phone loaded with features. I hope those of you who buy one enjoy using it as much as we enjoyed bringing it to you. Cheers.

I really like the phone having that much of features, but I don't feel this product has much different than previous P800 & P900. In the current world, it should have at least 6 band (UMTS, CDMA2000, GSM 850, 900, 1800, 1900)all together, because a lot of people still have to cross continents everyday and they may need them all. Also, it should have EDGE as well since EDGE getting popular in North America (GPRS has been outdated). Finally, the build-in camera had better have 3.0 or above mega-pixels since 1.2MP couldn't take any good picture really.

This phone is very cool. It can do everything you could possibly do on a mobile phone. The phone features touch screen so there is no numberpad. There will be memorycard slot and speakerphone. Good job Motorola...

I have had the chance to try this phone. Let me tell you something, this is by far the best phone ever! Nokia and Ericsson have a lot of work to do to match this masterpiece!!!

To answer your question Zenn, here's the order. Sendo x the best phone, followed by Siemens SX1 and then A1000. The SX1 keypad is fiddly like the Nokia 3650.

yes, I hear that A1000 has an MMC slot. By the way, there is no comparsion with 7650. A1000 is a 320x240 65K TFT UMTS touchscreen phone - truly next generation.7650 is a GSM 4k color 160x120 key pad phone of the past!
