after 1 year and 3 months my battery drain even in off condition (short circuit even never use in water). it was good phone: never restart, in a place where the gsm signal is bad: none of my friends got signal (same carrier as mine), defy still manage have 4 bar of edge. btw I recommend slimkat 4.4 to anyone still used this art of engineering

I bought my Defy Plus in 2011 and its still working BUT... 1. Replaced the screen after a year and a half because of pixel burn-in. 2. Larger pixel burn-in on the second screen in less than a year. 3. Rubber gasket covers for micro USB port loosened after 1.5 years. 4. Still experiencing reboots since day one. Worst Android phone I ever bought.

I fixed it changing the cellphone data mode. U have to restart the phone and press "Vol -" when the LED light. Then u have to search for something that say "on demand" (My Defy+ is rooted, I dont remember what is write on original boot menu. For me it is "Scaling"). U just have to change this parameter. Im using "conservative" mode, for example. And dont worry about this changing. If u still having problems, just go back to old configuration.

With the glowing reviews, it appears I drew the short straw and ended up with one of these Defy+'s from a series of faulty batches and was experiencing constant and relentless reboots, (even while freshly factory reset and a brand new replacement sim) with rather hell raising mid call reboots. Subsequent warranty replacements also eventually failed, but in completely different ways. I have to admit, I'm very glad to have gotten rid of mine 2 years ago, where in confession, I reached the end of my tether, folded it up (it folds quite easily) and literally threw it in the bin. The Sony Xperia line so far (Acro S and the Z2) in comparison have been a lot more stable for me.

Good phone with the drawbacks of 512 MB RAM and Android 2.3.6 that Motorola is not willing to upgrade. However, you can install CyanogenMod 9 (Android 4.0.4) very easily and it works even better, with a lot more setup opportunities (e.g. vibrate when your call is answered, vibrate in 45th seconds of call etc.). (Maybe even newer versions of CM, even v11 that equals Android 4.4 but I use this one in the moment - however, these ugrades should be done by the manufacturer not by zealous fans.) So in my opinion it is a very good phone with some handicaps coming from its age.

I bought this phone in Jan 2011 till now using this phone. Last year met with an accident and phone became curved, battery was curved, screen broken. I adjusted everything properly. Changed touch screen and using it till date. I think this is the best phone of its time. People commenting tht its not good, they need to check the manufacturing date of the phone. During the time when it was launched it was the best deal. I did a lot of under water shoot in my swimming pool with this phone.

Good phone with the exception of only 512MB RAM and obsolete Gingerbread (2.3). Good solution is upgrade to Jelly Bean (XDA Developers). ROM is VERY stable, no bugs at all, excellent performance and UP TO 250 FREE RAM

You're not losing much by keeping on 2.3.6, the stability and battery consumption seems better on it. Using a recent 4.4 (Quarx) on mine, you have to be real careful with the free ram otherwise it'll reboot and there's this annoying black screen bug when i'm calling or receiving calls. But anyway i like my rugged little phone regardless.

Bad Phone - wireless signal sucks. a smartphone without a good wireless connection it's useless - IT HAS ONLY 3G NETWORK. if u switch it on 2g u won't be able to receive any calls. and if u switch it on automatic, your phone battery will last .

Recharging it 4-5 times on a day it'll make u hate this phone. So.... only 3g network it's the only option. Still, the battery won't last at least 24h. I've tried not to use it for apps, just for short calls, to see the maximum duration, and it was 20-23 hours the best. - also problems with the gsm signal. - the touchsreen not so resistant, my cat walked on it when it was recharging, on the bed, and now it has a lot of dead pixels. Resistant phone? On water I guess. Who need that anyway? I don't swim with my phone. - not enough RAM, the phone is getting slower fast, u often need to kill apps with task manager. Maybe too often. To install a new app u must delete another. In conclusion, it was the worse phone I ever had. It made so frustrated that I bought next a Samsung and I've remained a Samsung fan ever since.

Because you get a faulty device. I have one and i didn't experienced tones of problems like you. It has some downs but not hell as you say. Only problem i had with the speaker. It's rooted, moded with at least 4 custom roms and still works. Sure it has some quirks because of the mods and the device it's not a state of the art by default but anyways....not hell.

I have a DEFY+ and it is the worst phone I have ever had. It keeps switching itself off and on at the most inappropriate times. If I am using an app when someone phones me I can't answer it. The screen keeps jumping about if I try to text or use the internet in bad weather. It keeps freezing so I end up having to remove the battery and switch it back on. Definitely the last time I get a motorola. Other family members have Samsung phone. I am definitely switching to them when this contract runs out.

Owned Defy and Defy+. Had other phones, and frankly the little motorola is an awesomely well balanced design. It is a little thick, but if that is the trade you have to make for a small bezel on small screen that fits easily in any pocket, i'll take it. Physically, my favourite phone ever. Decent loudspeaker, decent with headphones, was my companion at work, headphones in working through the rain in a mining job with great reception. Touchscreen sensative and accurate even with rubberized gloves on. If only the processor and software were less buggy and laggy. It is truly the only letdown, with the camera being more subpar than a letdown. If Motorola released a V2.0 with a Tegra 3 and 1gb ram onboard with an Exmor R, 4.0" screen with even the same res but less bezel i'd buy it in a heartbeat. That truly would be the perfect handset for me as a working guy who needs an all conditions phone. I've tried other handsets that are "IP67" and the Defy just seems to be better physically. It's compact nature makes it better while in your pocket and that actually counts when at work. Synopsis: Great workmate.

This was truly an awesome phone by Motorola. I am running Kitkat 4.4.2 (CM11) on my defy+. The RAM being 512MB; it can't handle too much of multitasking, lags when doing so. Completed almost 2 years now. I have can have this device for a few more months. Probably my new phone will also be a Motorola.

Regarding upgrading. To you who want to upgrade to Kit Kat 4.4: You have to read several places to fully undertand how to do this, I did. I lernt that doing it in Windows is guaranteed to give you loads of unwanted viruses or Trojans! I did it in Windows, using USB cable and loading files to SD card of the phone. Good place to start is: And as always: Google! :-) The difficult part is rooting the phone. And be awake! Do it wrong, and you might have to buy new phone... Today I have Android 4.4.2 (XDE) w/latest Google keyboard that has swype and Emoji. It is maybe faster than before. Love my "new" Defy+!

I've owned this model since 2012. It is actually a pretty good little phone for its price tag($130-$150). The original software is c**p, but after rooting it and installing a few roms, I came across a rom that is blazing fast, stable and highly customizable (Mokee ROM based on 2.3.7). The reception and call quality are some of the strong points. The earpiece is very loud and the 2 microphones do their job well. Call-wise it's better than iphone 4/4s or other more "high end" phones. Also, on 2G network mode, I always get 50h+ out of the battery with moderate use which is more than decent for a smartphone. I wouldn't recommend using 3G a lot because it overheats. It has seen abuse including washing, the sea, the pool, even beer and believe me, it's waterproof. Unfortunately, the first time I dropped it on a hard surface some spots appeared on the screen and never went away, but changing the lcd is not that difficult or expensive, it's about $25 if you do it yourself. The camera is average, not that great, but at least it has a flash which you can use as a flashlight. The rest of the hardware is pretty decent and the fact that it has 2GB of internal storage helps a lot. If you have an extra 4GB SD card it's more than enough memory. To wrap it up: Pros: Excellent call quality, durability, waterproof, great battery life on 2G, decent hardware and features. Cons: Slow original software with an absolute lack of official upgrades, sensitive display, poor camera.

I've been using this phone since 2011, but only thought of rooting it last year. Should have done it sooner, as all the problems with the hanging and rebooting went away instantly. The major problem of this phone was the massive amount of bloatware it came with, so rooting got rid of that. Also installed cyanogenmod9 (jellybean) and now I have no problems with my phone. Gaskets are still okay after all this time, plus it has survived many a sudden rainshower and (I know, eww) a short dunk in the toilet. If ever I do replace this phone, it will be for something with the same durability, and haven't seen anything like that around yet.

After 20 months of disappointment after disappointment, I'm finally retiring my Defy+. I don't even have any plans of selling it in order to save other people from disappointment. Here are the issues I've experienced in the past 20 months: 1. Slow to power up from OFF. 2. Poor GPS performance. 3. Poor camera performance. 4. Constantly hanging and crashing. 5. Damaged the screen (huge clump of dead pixels) for unknown reasons so I had to replace the screen. 6. The rubber gasket for the USB port has lost it's seal so it is now virtually non-waterproof.

The problem is that, when you realize how good is to have a smartphone, you notice how slow and irritating this phone is. Tried many custom roms (including Xperia D 4.2 - the best for me), but they are slower that original SBF rom 2.3.5. Conclusion: It is worth to spend more money and get a great smatphone.

Go to XDA developers and their in device list find for Defy/Defy Plus. Here s the link for CM 10.2 (4.3.1), still OS is not stable but usable. Before installation you need to root ur device and need to install custom boot menu and recovery. Before flashing ur device take a nandroid back up.

It is a really poor phone. I suggest you not to buy this phone at all! The ram is just 512 mb! I've been using this phone and it hangs way too much! If you've a little sweaty fingers or wet fingers, and if you tap anywhere on the screen, it keeps on tapping there! I was so shocked at its slow speed! Even home and menu hangs and get forced close! Not even a little heavy application can be handled by the phone because it has a lot of default apps that are already running and consume way too much ram! I suggest you to look up for some other phones even rooting doesn't help and moreover, it is a risky thing to do.

I do not agree... actually the cm 10.1 and 10.2 are faster and better on this device also they are much more stable. The Ram is more then enough and if you need more speed you can overclock the cpu up to 1,4 Ghz without any trouble. It is a texas instruments processor so it will not overheat. I've upgraded all the defy series I used the Defy and the Defy +. One thing I cann tell you for sure: Overall this is the best phone you can get (if you upgrade the software of course cause the original sucks bigtime).

Its easy to root this phone. There is many topics about it. But I don't suggest flash a ics rom and above on this phone, because is just to slow and weak. I suggest to flash a cm7.2 rom is pretty fast. :) Anyway the phone is really good. Im using it more than one year and its still waterproof. :D Only what I need to do is change the battery for new one. And the system is not stable any more, I notice that phone is restarting a few times per day. Phone is good, but need more RAM and a bit faster processor.

Unfortunately Motorola has crippled the Defy + by not updating it to Jelly Bean. However, if you care to take time and work on it, it's possible to flash it to Jelly Bean. And the Defy + becomes a pleasure to use with none of that Motorblur bloatware. Enjoy!

I love this phone, it is thousand times better than the samsung galaxy fame !!!!!! But i see that lots of people don't know how to use it :-( This device looks old and locked with its android 2.3.6 and motoblur (lots of apps and games don't work on it), but i assure you, if you know how to root it and to install a custom recovery on it (ex : CWM), you will be able to flash it with one of the latest custom firmwares to unlock everything on this phone, and even boosting its capacities: Better cpu work, good ram managing, extra battery life and better photos quality. For those who understood me, try the "Xperia D 4.2" custom rom after rooting it and you will see what i am talking about ;-) The best and most enjoyable low-cost smartphone I have ever had ^_^

My review about this phone : 1. Defy+ has very attractive look , feels very stronger. its design and body is just awesome. gorilla glass provides all protection from scratch and fall down. it also easily fits into the pockets. very nice handset. 2. from hardware perspective it has 512 MB ram which is enough to perform different tasks. Camera is worst but the flash light is so strong that you have absolutely no need of buying torch ! 3. the default OS is good but if you want the best from this phone then root it and get custom rom. I am using Mokee OS custom rom which is faster and provides best ui and has lots of advantages over normal OS , your phone becomes fully customizable , screenshot, status bar toggles. 4.the thing that I didn't like about the phone is if we install number of apps and if they are running simultaneously then the phone starts lagging so I suggest install the apps which are really require. Suggestions : those who r using defy , just don't think and root it and start using custom rom , it has lots of advantage over motoblur.

I've been using this for around 16 months now and I love it. I upgraded it to ICS last april, and Jelly Bean in Sept. It's quick enough with no real lag, and the fact you don't have to worry about getting it wet it a real bonus over most phones. Using it in the shower as a music player is no concern. Would recommend this phone to anyone, but it's a LOT better with ICS or Jelly Bean.

I own a defy plus MB526 (Android 2.3.6). I need to stop many processes, each time I use my phone after it has been in idle state for some time (be it 10 mins or more than a hour). If I do not do this the phone hangs and there is no response from it. The power button also doesn't work. I have to take out the battery and restart the phone again. After restarting also I need to stop all processes from task manager. Is there a solution to this? I Don't have many apps installed. Can installing custom ROM solve the issue? Also which ROM should I install and how?

It can support any game I want, I've added a task manager just to keep it clean from cache and unwanted tasks but it's rly fast even on its own. For it's price you rly get the whole package ;) I have an 8GB SD card but I'm planning on buying 32GB (more music and games for me ^^).. This phone is value for the money you pay. The water resistant feature is amazing. I have dropped this phone on multiple occasions and there are only a few minor scratches. It has a rugged build and can stand quite some punishment. There are a few downsides though. 1)Slow processor- this is the biggest con. Games lag all the time and take ages to load. This is very frustrating and has made me want to toss the phone away. I have stopped downloading games as a reason. Apps also take forever to load and is frustrating when you need it in an emergency 2)Gingerbread OS. No upgrades available, unless the phone is rooted, which is a huge pain.

A smart choice because its design is simple , rugged , Bigger screen size if overall dimensions are considered, No restart Problem at all (read it in user opinions that some people faced this prob)... screen resolution is also good. good pixel density. games with high resolutions also run quite smooth (at this price). Now only prob m facing is that - phone feels a bit slow when a bunch of apps are installed... I know this prob can be removed up to a great extent by overclocking but i think I like the animation part that is inbuilt (TV screen off animation, sky blue loading sign, the way menu and other things pop up, curtain style menu list etc). Also I don't wanna ruin the warranty period yet, so m not looking for a cyanogen mod yet. faced a big prob once when i installed a no. of apps and it got hung and even after restarting it was not responding. Took it to service centre (very hard to find in north India) where the whole software was re-installed. after that no probs at all. final review - A very good phone at this price (bought it for 11500 Rs in chd) and fully satisfied even after 3 months of use. But if you are looking to buy it then remember one thing- at this price you will not get a high end phone with quad core processor so a lil bit slow down must be acceptable. don't install apps that you don't actually need otherwise you will surely face that sluggishness in the device.

Hi, the phone is extremely good at it's performance, it is simply rugged with the smarter features, And about the speed both cpu's give more or less equal performance, but defy xt's the upgraded cpu And even according to some people defy xt is not so rugged that defy+, Only the drawback in defy+ is there is no secondary camera.

This phone was my first experience of an Android phone and unfortunately it was less than stellar. I was initially hesitant about getting Motorola as I have had poor experiences with Motorola Phones in the past and this phone turned out to be no exception. I had got this phone because I often did a lot of multi-day tramps / hikes and the occasional stream bash where moisture and condensation are an ever present threat to electronic devices. Among small niggles, the most annoying were frequent reboots while Using Mobile Data and the King of all annoyances, random reboots in the middle of calls. The phone would even reboot while idle. This was even right after doing a factory restore. The WIFI reception on this device is also poor and would frequently drop connections while other devices on the same WIFI network will still be connected and able to access the Internet. Overall, it has been a frustrating year with this phone and I have given up hounding the Retailer over getting this phone functioning to a state that I deem as fit for purpose. While this may seem emotional, I do not plan to be buying Motorola Mobility phones again. this is the 3rd Motorola Phone I've had over the years and each of them have caused me an endless number of issues and frustrations.

agree about phone. about music player 2 minute switch off i had same problem solved it by removing all apps from the auto end list in Task Manager. worth a try. nothing worse than setting off walk to work music switches off.

This phone is a very expensive paperweight. I was only happy with it the first day I bought it over the HTC wildfire. This was attractive for its speed in its ad. It have a crappy cpu though it's 1ghz, I don't think it has. It has crappy graphics almost every game lags. The touch screen is horrible. It always mistype on whatsapp not to mention it slow loading speed. Last, its covers for ports is not durable, the plastic seal broke after 10 months. Also its OS is also horrible. Motorola should have made the os better for such a horrible phone and it lacks funtionality like screen capture.Overall, this crappy phone does not worth this much money. I want to warn you if you plan on buying this phone because you will regret it.

Id have to say that this phone is absolutly rubbish! Ive had 2 Defy+'s now and both have had issues. First one , was good for about a month, and then the earpiece lost all its volume so had to use loud speaker to talk to anyone. The GPS would most of the time take 10mins to get a fix (same on both of my defy+'s. Then I dropped it and broke the screen, my bad not the phones. Second phone was good for about a month also and then the screen got parkinsons disease and starts shaking or recieves phantom inputs, GPS slow to fix and now it lags like a bastard to do anything. Only bought this phone because Im a farmer and I need a rugged phone. Next one is going to be a top end phone with a decent case! Do not buy a Motorola Defy+!

I'm using this Phone for last 1 month. The phone is really very good in screen clarity and sound aspects. Actual RAM is 512MB, but when the running memory exceeds 300-320MB the phone becomes slow and not responding sometime. Recommended ! i usually wash my phone :) no problem !! Service is good and trustable ! Battery life awesome i get a battery backup of 3-4 days in normal usage. Camera with a powerfull flash !! Go for this phone and you wont regret !! Surely a waterproof phone !! nice sound clarity , good speakers, too many apps will lead to lags !! just clear cache memory and its fast again :)

The minute I turn on my 3g any normal voice calls made from my phone gets disconnected within a second. If I switch to Wifi / 2g the issue is solved! I work in the dairy industry, and the only waterproof phones on sale with Telsta were the Telstra T2 and the Defy+. I'm very impressed with my choice. The Defy+ has been dropped on concrete, tiles and hardwoord flooring and not scratced or marked in any way. I tested its water resistance by throwing it into a spa whilst filming a video, and the phone emerged unscathed with the video intact. I have a silicone cover on it but no screen protector - don't need it. The silicone cover just gives you something to hold onto.

Bought it in august for 12799 bucks from infibeam.com enjoyed as it was my first android device then got bored with gingerbread that's stock os afterwards thought of rooting it and getting ICS on my defy plus and I rooted it by the guidance of xda forum and then got ICS loaded in my defy+ and now enjoying jellybean 4.1.2 with overclocking the CPU to 1.3 GHz. Guys this cell is worth buying 100% value for money great resolution ,good hardware and yes it plays HD games like FIFA 2012, Dead space , NFS most wanted and not to forget what makes defy+ different from other mobiles like iPhone, Samsung s3 is that its water resistant can you dip your iphone5 or Samsung Galaxy s3 in bucket full of water NO but my defy plus can survive it till 30 minutes and I have personally dipped it in water and it works . Friends buy this if your looking mobile under 14k and you can use it full when you root it. Rooting voids your WARRANTY.

do not go with either of defy or defy xt! none of them can play 720p videos without lagging. phone hangs too much , the gpu and processor are too old from present scenario. extend budget atrix is the best phone available in motorola. rather leave motorola my defy plus crashed completely in 40 days after purchase. defy plus is out of stock because its old phone , no one is interested in buying a phone having gingerbread while the world is moving towards jelly bean.

Hi, I have decided to buy this mobile due to: 1.Overall very good reviews on this site (I always checked my phones on this site before buying) 2. Observed that many complains about low memory on android phones and this one has almost 2GB internal memory and more than 1GB for user memory. 3. Screen size is good 4. Rom size is very good 5. Camera 5 MP with auto flash, modes, autofocus options. I bought a locked Defy + which is my 1st android phone ever and 1st timer motorola user. I always handled Nokia phones. Had a bit of trouble with motoblur registration initially. I still don't have much idea of on android os but managed to do rooting, upgrade it to CM9 and soft unlock it. It was good before this upgrade and much better after that. I am still learning about it but already liking it 100%!! As 1st time touchscreen and virtual keyboard user, I feel I am comfortable with it especially after flashing it to CM9. I feel the battery is pretty good for average user (so far more than 2 days with average use) So far, I have no regrade of choosing this mobile phone. Hope this helps.

Defy and Defy+ are sleepers, the original software from motorola is full of bloat, but as soon as you root it and update it with a custom rom like Cyanogen or MIUI turns into an amazing phone for the price.

When I bought it it hanged a lot but then I performed a stock recovery and since then it works fantastic. (This is how you perform a recovery: Turn off your phone and boot it while holding the volume down button. You should get into the stock recovery. Now press both volume up and down together. Navigate using the volume buttons and use power to select an option. Clear cache and reboot. See if it's better. )

Noramally one and half day. Some negative feedbacks: 1)OS is not upgradable.It comes with android version 2.3.6(Gingerbread). This is a great phone. I just made it greater by rooting, and then installing Jellybean (CyanogenMod 10), and got rid of all that MotoBlur crap, works like a dream. Super one click didn't work for me to rooteither. Maybe, like me, you have a version 7 bootloader phone? BL 7 is "locked" and difficult to root. To root a BL 7 Defy + try this (it worked for me, but took me a long time to find): Good luck!

Its a lovely phone with great hardware. the waterproof, dustproof features work like a charm. Great screen, great resolution and handles graphics really well. battery life satisfactory. Camera is great for outdoor use but suffers in low light or indoor conditions. One of the underestimated features of this phone is the internal memory. while ur friends will have to think twice before installing apps due to limited memory, Defy+ with its 2 gb (1.3gb usable) internal memory will rescue u. HAving said all this, the software by motorola is laggy and irritating. nor are they planning an upgrade. So i installed ICS via CyanogenMod and it worked like a charm. all problems disappeared. what's more, CM guys are working to get JellyBean to this phone, so it should be usable for a long time to come. So buy without a hitch

This is for all of you who want to know how this phone is from a personal point of view .. well .. it was my worst nightmare I got this phone in December 2011 .. and on the very fist day it restarted without any warning .. and I figured its because I put it on overdrive the moment I got it (was downloading and multitasking and what not) .. so I gave it a little rest. BUT I only figured something was wrong a week later when I traveled to another country and switched on mobile data .. the phone rebooted atleast 3 times in 5 minutes .. the moment it connects with the network and starts to sync emails or anything else .. it would reboot. I gave it back to service the moment I got back .. and got it back a week later (they replaced the screen and some other connector). Again within the week it reboots atleast a few times, especially when you are on a call. I sent it back to service and they sent me some report on tests they ran, and says theres no fault. I get it back again, and in the next two weeks it reboots about 20 times. I go back to store, cuss them out, and lucky for me the store had a policy where 3 times service for the same problem would either be replacement / money back. The 3rd time, service calls me and tells me that they changed the motherboard and some other components, and that its a new phone in the market so its showing initial troubles (yeah right). Anyways .. I got my money back .. and I am truly a happy guy :) Thank you Motorola for an awesome experience!

Read all the details on the reverse of the battery carefully and then check them up on Google. I really don't mind even if it's a 1650mah as I did a complete recharge on it, then used it to it's full extent for downloading, benchmarking, gaming , playing videos etc... ,i.e, checking each and every feature in great detail, the phone still managed to give me 3 days battery of life and still had 5% left when I gave it a full recharge again. I would say this is a great achievement from moto and one of the best features of this phone.

Defy+ is selling for Rs.13500 almost everywhere. There's no other phone that can match it's build and specs in a similar price range. The only other phone that you can look at similar pricein a range are the Sony Xperia Pro SK17i(very small screen and weak construction as quite a large no. of people have reported issues with volume button) and Samsung Galaxy Ace Duos 6802(weak processor and GPU). This phone is good. I have the world's worst luck with phones. You can find things easily, the user guide online is easy to understand, it takes rough treatment. I do not have a lot of strength in my hands or fingers due to a spinal cord injury, but this phone allows me to easily swipe to unlock and answer calls, only needs a light touch to text but it's not too light where it goes everywhere but where you want it to go. The camera is good, but the only down side is the volume. I have not worked it out yet.

the battery lasted me 17 hours, i text ALOT and use wifi ALOT as well, i played many games too, i turned the phone off when i went to sleep. very good phone.. sometimes it gets a bit slow but normally it has a really good speed, great phone, great durability, and great for the price~

Rebooting issues are often from a problem with your SD card. Format it only inside your phone and start again.

The phone is very slow at processing I dont recommend this phone, spend more money get a galaxy at least or otherwise it will stress you out. I get 100% cpu usage for looking at facebook/chat. This phone is like designing and making a car to over heat!!

no, just 1 camera, the pictures are ok, the video is only 640x480, low light video is fairly good. Flash is a single led - not very good unless very close, better than nothing though, they should let you use it as a torch :-)

Of course GSMarena would call it entry level and rave about a 160x75x8 phone because they managed to put 40% more processing power in 500% more space. If it is a Samsung they will be doubly delighted.

The Defy+ has equivalent processing power and RAM but with a smaller size and lager battery. So the Defy+ wins hands down. The Dell's 228ppi is pretty poor in these times. There is just no justification for the larger bulky size of the Dell. The 8mp camera is the only thing that may be better. Neither GPU is good for running ICS.

The phone is very nice choice and works nicely after installing task killer apps and removing lots of not needed stuff. Out of the box it really sucks in performance and freezes often- this is due to tons of needless apps running in the back. Resolution at this size is awesome and battery life is excellent (Wi-fi/GPS turned ON on when-needed basis, not all the time). I recommend buying car dashboard holder + iGO + car charger = very nice navigation system. Toughness and water resistance: I did not test properly but there were occasional drops and rain moisture on the phone - no problems at all. Cons: - hectic responses when out-of-the-box app setup - mic problem only when speakerphone is used during calls- the other party complains about sound quality - some annoying apps/services cannot be removed/stopped easily (Cardio, Social Networking, Maps, etc. ) - larger memory card is needed to use the phone properly Value For Money: Excellent Overall if you need a good, tough touchscreen smartphone with a decent processing power and Android 2.3 - this is definitely your phone.

Its clearly the best phone in this price range. Above any other features moto claims it to be water proof and a tough phone which can handle accidental drops. Fits very well into my hand. Most efficiently used space around the screen makes it the smallest phone with 3.7 inch screen. Screen resolution is better than any other brand's phone in this category + it has a gorilla screen. Being an android phone gives you the facility to use a wide range of apps which shall be applicable to all other android phones as well. Battery life is pretty good too. Why doesn't moto spend on marketing this phone at all makes me wonder. Samsung, Sony and Nokia spend so much on Ads that they ultimately end up charging the customers more.

I got it changed after a lot of hastle and now it doesn't restart at all.

One of the best phone I had... The best part is the net surfing. You will feel like the experience you have while browing on laptop or desktop. Just amazing. Yes it's really tough and water resistant. My kid stand on my phone many time and nothing happended. Even it slipped from my kid's hands many time and not even a scratch. Voice clarity is also superb for incoming calls. Purchased on 31st Dec'11 and till date not a single time it got hanged. If it is connected to wifi network the data downloading speed is also very good. I have synchronized my office mails and no problem... So just perfect. At a price around 15K this is the best phone. Camera quality is decent not bad. Motorola widgets is a bonus which keeps you updated of your facebook or synchronised accounts... gives you alerts of conference calls if they are marked in your office outlook account. The Defy+ is still a top phone for someone who wants a great web browsing experience on a small device. - the low pixels of pentile Samsung devices are out. - HTC One V is slow on ICS with a choppy web browser. - Sony Sola has floating touch which slows down the browser but seems to be ok with the feature disabled. The small battery is then the issue. - The SE Neo V is good device. The SE Neo was better but they ran out of 8mpix cameras. Does not have the rugged features of the Defy+ and face is a bit bigger. has the hug advantage of no Motoblur. - HTC Desire S and Rhyme are quite large devices for a 3.7" screen. They also run a heavy sense overlay which is not efficient for performance a small device. All in all the new devices are disappointing. Samsung will never produce a top web browsing experience with a small pentile AMOLED device. HTC continue with running heavy overlays and putting the heavy ICS (what were Google thinking) on a small device. Sony should have left out floating touch and provided a larger battery. There are no new devices of similar size that are worth upgrading to.

It looks like I'm very unlucky with my Defy+. I'm using it for over 2 months now and i have very little positive to report on this phone. I'll just make a quick summary of the issues i'm experiencing (I'm running Android v2.3.6): - My Defy+ is not recognized by Vista of XP when plugged in the computer. I can't transfer any files or music to the SD card. - Some files on the SD are just not recognized by the phone. Some music albums seem to vanish when I search for them (on the phone). - Music player often crashes (presumably because of these SD card issues) - Spontaneous reboots (no falls or shocks or anything prior to these events) - System crashes A LOT. Only removing battery will help in this case - Gallery doens't work. Most of the time, you can take pictures but these aren't saved. More often than not, the gallery doesn't show anything. When you CAN save your pictures, they often dissapear after a while. - Quickoffice (build-in app for office files) crashes everytime I open a Word or Excel file. Have not tried other types of files yet. - This phone is definitely not shock proof. A fall from less than 2 feet often results in reboot or crash. (I hope it never falls in a puddle of water or something, i'm having serious doubts about water resistance) - Back-up alarm (loud beep when it's going off for 5 minutes) doesn't work In short: don't buy this phone.

Silly statement when manufacturers are recommending not upgrading (even when it is possible) for lower powered devices like the Neo V. ICS will not run as fast. ICS has heavy RAM, CPU and GPU requirements and does not offer that much additional functionality. Your poorly researched statement adds little/no value.

You can have problems with any phone-but one common cause is putting an SD card in your phone that has not been formatted. If your SD card was used in a previous phone and still contains some data codes related to that phone, then you likely will experience a variety of breakdowns with your phone. Before putting in your old Sd card, be sure to erase all old data files (other than videos or music or photos) and then try it. I've seen several phones crash right in front of me because store clerks just quickly put my old card in before I could stop them. Now, I take it out before I trade phones.

I got Motorola DEFY+ and just become dead after one month of use. On contacting local service centre, they reacted like I am unwanted and reached there to give headache to them. After pursuing with main service centre I was able to handover the phone to Local service centre (very poor service). They are telling me to come after 15 days. If one buys a phone of worthRs14500/- at least one could not expect that phone will be dead aftre one month. I am using the variety of mobile phones from last 12 years but did not face such type of things.

Warning: I used the SIM card method of transferring contacts and Motorola's functionality in this area is awful. If you have a Motoblur account then try using the other methods that Motorola supply. If not then try using the export/import method. Do this before setting anything else on your phone because you may want to reset the phone to clear undesirable results. What awful contact functionality from Motorola. And what a joke it is that it is only easy if you then buy another Motorola phone.

Same with mine. It has happened about 15 times now. I put it down to the general poor build quality. Maybe the padlock symbol next to the release slider means "attach your own rear cover securing device here because we failed" The failure to place the micro USB in the centre means that my plastic cover does not firmly fit either so I highly doubt I could put my device under water. For me Motoblur forced account for upgrade rubbish and poor build quality are the two poor things about this phone. Basically if someone other than Motorola manufactured the Defy+ it would be a better device.

Just remember that your phone is only water resistant if the back stays on the phone. Mine for some strange reason unlocked every now and then and because of the design, if it unlocks, it pops the back open and lets water in. Motorola warranty does NOT cover for water damage!!

Defy+ is a more compact version of the same spec except the Dell may have a better camera. Dell was released with only Froyo and not sure if there is an update. Defy+ would be the better of the two as pretty much the same features but on a smaller phone.

1. Updates are OTA. Last week an update was released & I installed it through the phone. Btw. I'm in Kerala. You can also do the updates by connecting to a PC. 2. AFAIK In India Moto doesn't do the service directly, they've given it to many Service Cos. I had taken my friend's phone last year & they were 100 times better than Nokia Service. Don't know the situation in Mumbai.

Unfortunately, my Defy+ has a defect with Home button light. It doesn't lght anymore. Need to sent it to service. Until now I was satisfied with it. It is not the fastest and not even the best good looking. But is compact and �confidential�. The battery is quite OK. My only complain is about the TFT display. In the direct sunlight is imposible to distinguish the display.

Just 4months gone my defy plus received a firmware upgrade......kernel version changed.....changes after the update 1.slide to unlock changed pretty nice 2.UI is more smoother now 3. Apps n browser load fast 4.all the bugs are resolved by motorola pretty happy wid the update....who says moto doesnt update their phones they do they r back Moto \m/

Actually if you read the press releases many phones that can upgrade are going to run worse and Sony have already advised users of many of their phones that they should think twice before upgrading. Defy+ does not have a good enough GPU for ICS and the CPU would also be border line. There will be skinny custom ROMs that may work ok but it won't compare with phone built to handle ICS.

I have had this phone for about 6 months now. I would sum it up like this: - size of phone and general hardware design great - performance and battery great - build quality a bit suspect (my mini usb plug point is off centre causing cable connection issues and back cover has opened itself a couple of times) - software poor imo and I have removed anything to do with Motoblur. Motorola denying updates unless you have a Motoblur account is really really poor. My phone has rebooted itself about 5 times in 6 months that I have noticed. It is when I have had many applications open then slept it and later woken it up. I assumed it was clearing applications and ram and an ok thing. I think that the reboot issue reported by other here must by different to that. It is really hard to find a 3.7" device that still looks and feels so small as the Defy+. It being waterproof and rugged is also a bonus. In regards to ICS, the Defy+ and the Neo V. The Defy+ is not good enough for ICS because the GPU is slightly under what is required. The GPU on the Neo V just meets the requirement but Sony are still recommending that Neo V users stay on Gingerbread as ICS will not perform well on the Neo V which only meets minimum ram, processor and GPU requirements (and ram will be an issue). I don't see the Neo V ICS upgrade as a huge advantage. IMO the advantage that the Neo V has over the Defy+ is the software and build quality. If Sony built the Defy+ we would have a better quality Defy+ and a slightly higher price .... and I would have been happier :)

I got my Defy+ on the first week of March in Bangalore. Faced reboot issues. Got the handset replaced, not before a hard fight. Motorola policy says replacement is done only if reported within a week! So all you new buyers, don't wait if you have a problem. Now the replaced phone - This one has proximity sensor issues. It just won't work. Am out of patience now. Will just dump it in the garbage bin. I would suggest all you prospective buyers to think again with Motorola. There are better phone makers in market right now, why buy a problematic device. And their customer service is as good as non existent. Their people out there are simply clueless about anything!

Samsung's i8150/Galaxy W costs 15% less (in Brazil) and have better specs than this phone. Looks like Motorola's still living in 1997 when everybody would buy a handset from them only because it said "MOTOROLA" somewhere on the carcass. Yes, rebooting issue is on mine (wife owns it now). Although I can find that it would reboot a couple of time within 48 hours, then it could go nearly a week without rebooting. Even after the latest update, this is still happening. Sometimes it would happen while the phone is in standby and other times while I would be using it. No logical explenation, phone just randomly reboots.

Been using my Defy Plus for about a month now and I am pretty satisfied about it's performance. I've even dunked it in an aquarium and took a video of the fish underwater. It's actually the sole purpose for buying it. The only issue I have with it is that the battery seems loose inside the unit and you can actually hear and feel it rattling inside.

For videos it can play 720p resolution vids smoothly but the glitch is of bitrate.it seems to play videos of around 1500kbps bitrate smoothly.I advice you to use "handbrake" video converter , its free.google it.for restart problem its Android problem....every time you open an app be sure to exit it to keep the ram free and everything will be fine.camera quality is average.hope this helps..... :)

I bought my moto defy plus in Feb2012. The defy+ worked fine for a few days and then started rebooting randomly. Initially I thought it was due to some application that I installed. I reset the defy+ and did not install any games or utilities. The rebooting resurfaced within a few minutes. I am not Tech savvy enough to go about changing the ROM and other stuff because I am not sure how to go about doing that. Moreover I have not seen it read a single success story. I sincerely trusted Motorola to create good products but I was wrong.

I have Xperia Mini Pro, however I rarely use the keyboard. Also the screen is small, The RAM is less then Defy +. Poor Battery Life. Plus side is the wonderful camera, the dedicated shutter button, though little bit much recessed. and Music. So take your choice depending on what matters to you most.

In my opinion, Motorola defy plus is the the best choice...here are the pros of defy plus: larger screen, more PPI, larger battery, and durability....Sony phones are not at all durable and the sliding keypad my pose problems..... the pros of mini pro: better camera than defy+, a front facing cam, HD video recording, and a definite ICS update.. I was always a bit annoyed that the symbol keypad had numbers that were small to type and that there was no dedicated larger number keypad. I can't believe I have just realised you get that from a long press on the symbol keypad. Still that is a lot of keystrokes to get to a dedicated number pad. No ability to default the num pad for certain receivers (like phone top up numbers).

You forgot to mention the excellent small size. The Sony sola is even large in comparison. Everyone is going too thin meaning too tall and wide while the defy+ is the best sized 3.7 ever. One more drawback though and that is a gpu not quite good enough for ics. I blame Google though for making a heavier OS when people are trying to find lighter custom roms.

I've been using this device for weeks now. My review in one word, its brilliant. Handy to use, good sensitive screen and specifications that match the rugged usage. For all the blabbering about Defy+ not getting the official ICS, I remember 1.5 years back I bought the first android from AT&T, Motorola Backflip. It ran 1.5 and Moto later released update to 2.1 (for U.S. customer's only). I own the phone even today, and it runs Gingerbread (2.3.7 precisely), far beyond what Moto assumed. So no worries for the update, I love the phone right now. PS: At least it makes me stand apart from every other guy carrying either a Samsung or a Sony Ericsson in the name of Android.

Motorola do not plan to offer ICS for the Defy+. There will eventually be ICS custom ROMs available but apparently the GPU is a bit border line. IMO it would be good for Google to stop making successful Android versions heavier and heavier.

There are some about. CyanogenMod has a Defy+ version but like may Defy+ custom ROMs it assumes that the battery is the same size as the Defy and so your battery never fully recharges. That may be fixed in a nightly CyanogenMod ROM now though. MS2Ginger 2.1 apparently does not have the battery problem.

The importance of the camera and the camera quality is down to the individual buyer's requirements. If a good camera was important for me then I would not have purchased this phone. I think the best camera for a 3.7 Android phone was on the 8mpix Xperia Neo (not the Neo V). I don't think anyone sells them anymore but you may find one. Here is a photo comparison from this site's comparison tool: Change the drop down to scale all the shots to 8mpix and the difference is huge of course.

I don't get issues with the phone hanging but a few times I have had problems with rebooting. Mine does suffer with a loose battery and wedging it in did not solve the problem. I fidled about with the sim card and deleted a few widgets. The phone has not suffered the reboot issue for a few days now but time will tell.

Just bought the unit and i also own a galaxy w. So far, i'd say that i'm very impressed with my defy+, one of the best phons i've ever owned. Compared to galaxy w, it's got greater battery life, better quality pictures,better and tougher build (which is good since i'm quite a sportsman)and better display. Theonly downside would be its video recording which is not HD. Plus, you put yourself in a different circle of users, which makes you feel exclusive. Too much samsung already (just joking)..

I agree with the comments from Jo below. It is unlikely that there will be an official ice cream sandwich update. There are a bunch of apps out there that will make your phone perform better and look nicer. I am posting this from my defy+ using a faster xScope browser. Some of the included performance based functionality is quite good too.

Just because the Defy Plus has a1700 battery, does not necessary make it better than the 1300 battery. Bigger screen size can zap more battery juice amongst other things. I have used the Active and own the Defy Plus and apart from the bigger screen size, I see no other advantages that the Defy Plus has over the active. Also the Defy Plus will not be getting an official ICS update, where as the Active will.

I noticed that for a 1700 mah battery, it was running down quickly. I own the Moto Defy JCB Edition, and did a factory reset, then the only change I made was not to re register the motoblur and took off the motoblur widgets from the homescreen. The only two apps I have installed is Facebook and Auto Lux from the market. For two days now my battery life has increased at least double. So ny theory is either you have an app installed that is draining the battery, or Motoblur and it's widget (especialy the social widget) is the cause of the problem. In my case by factory reseting and not using the motoblur or it's widget, seems to have solved my issue...so far.

My post is not incorrect. The Defy Plus has a bigger screen size compared to Active. That statement is not incorrect. As far as bugs are concerned : *Defy Plus autobrightness wont dim after the screen has brightened unless you switch the screen off, then back on (this is a software issue and not hardware related as auto lux from the market solves this issue). *When browsing the internet using desktop user agent to allow full web pages, the keyboard's vibration when typing can offten lag. Since disabling the motoblur social widget from the home screen seems to have sorted this out. *The Adobe Flashplayer will not retain it's market update after reeboot of device.

Defy+ - has a bigger screen (3.7 instead of 3.5) - has much higher resolution (480x854 vs 320x480) and that makes a huge difference to screen quality - has 265dpi vs 192dpi. 192 is quite poor - has a 1700mAh battery vs a 1300mAh battery which is also a huge difference So that is way more than just the size of the screen.

On a plus side, I find the pre installed task manager can be usefull in that it allows you to pick and choose which apps you want it to auto kill after two minutes when the screen times out. Usefull for apps like Facebook which sometimes decide to keep active even when the phone is in standby. BTW, few days have gone by without the social motoblur widget on screen and keyboard still no longer lags and works with perfect response. So I think I have sussed that problem out :)

i m using this phone for past couple of days and believe me its great phone. it can handle everything u need in superb manner. battery backup is also good with normal use the battery will easily last upto 2 days. the camera takes really good pictures and its flash also does great job at night time... speaker sound is awesome really good and in headset too its great.... it supports full flash content in web browser... hd videos can be easily watched in this device as well.. so from my side it has been an outstanding experience with this device, go for it definitely if ur budget is around 15k-16k.

I would suggest not to choice a phone by brand unless the exact UI overlay is a deal breaker. If you are after a 3.7" phone then imo the best two are the Motorola Defy+ and Neo V. Defy+ has the advantage of being more rugged and very small hight and width for screen size (which is great). Neo V better UI, contacts, better quality photos etc Samsung Galaxy W has very poor screen contrast. HTC Rhyme and Desire S are quite large for 3.7 devices and offer no better specs than the Neo V. There may be better 3.7 devices announced shortly. The Sony MT27 and HTC One S will be formally announced soon with specs but you would have to wait for the release. Pictures of both seem to have excessive hight above and below the screen so not a great start.

I really dislike touchscreen phones but I do like smart phones. It appears that the only smart phones available are touch screens. When I first set up my phone, I signed up for Motoblur. It appears that Motoblur is mainly for social networking. I don't use or like any of those things, so, I reset the phone back to factory settings and no longer use Motoblur. The screen is quite good and I have gotten used to the touch screen. The camera is actually pretty good and using a couple of android applications, I am able to shut off battery eating applications and the Internet. I now easily get a week from the battery and all the features are available with a simple toggle on or off. I am quite impressed with this phone and it is a great value for the money.

Having had this phone for around a month now and although the overall experience has been positive, there have been a few software bugs that have been noticed. Only just in the past few days, the Motoblur social widget has been playing up and wont sync. Since taking the widget off the homescreen, the keyboard no longer lags when using the browser when viewing full web pages.

The Defy+ is much much better than the Galaxy Ace Plus (laughing at yet another similar galaxy phone name). The Ace Plus has a poor resolution screen and GPU. Its 158ppi while the Defy+ is 265ppi That difference is very noticeable to the human eye. The Galaxy Ace is not in the same league at all.

Hi Arun, actually there were two sounds one from the power button which is a bit loose and second was from battery , but this battery sound was irritating me more so I just put a rubber band on the battery and the sound is gone now, apart from this there is not much issue about this phone, but I had really expected a much better built quality as this phone claims for its ruggedness and toughness which I dont see in this handset, I find HTC phones very good in built quality but obviously they have their own pros and cons

hehe, why can't the customer decide what they would prefer then. With a Motoblur account you are either in or out. I am a customer and it's not for my benefit because I don't want that and I won't be the only one. Not sure why you are telling my to go buy a cheaper phone 1) the Defy+ was cheap 2) I like the design No need to be a fan boy about any of this. I like my Defy+ (best phone I ever owned) but it has assembly and software floors that can't be denied. I accept that some people may not use functionality or use functionality in a way where problems do not effect their productivity or joy using the device. That does not mean that the problems do not exist. I work in the software industry have have owned smart phones for 7 years so it's not like I am mistaken.

This does not surprise me at all. The Defy plus has some real niggling issues with software that Motorola have not bothered to sort out since the original Defy was released. They would rather release new phones without dedicating themselves to sorting out existing ones, so the lack of update is just no surprise. I love my defy plus, but this is my last motorola.

I also enjoy MOTOBLUR! Also, the menus are so simplistic, exactly like Android was suposed to be initialy the ideea from google. Now there are kinds of stupid customization to manues on the Google Market and all have bugs and eat up speed on any phone , no matter is Samsung, Sony-Ericsson, etc. MOTOBLUR is very fast and simplistic. And very intuitive menus. It has integreted direct shortcut in the menu for Google Market, it has all kinds of simple customization for recently installed app, recently accesesd, used, etc. And very good if you lose your phone or if its stollen! I just love MOTOBLUR! It DOESN'T NOT AT ALL collecting personal info, only the initial setup which you anyway would make for Google, and all of you are actually doing it on any phone! Thank for the guys at Motorola who stay day and night at work to program this nice software in the same price of the phone!

I could give you a huge list of faults in the Motoblur UI, widgets and apps on the phone which means you are better off replacing almost all of it anyway. There are many features that you get by only setting up a Motoblur account. The Motoblur principal of not giving you full functionality unless you agree to let them have your personal information which they then track, aggregate with other data and use the information to generate profit (same as Google) with little user disclosure, I think is unethical (but then everyone on here has a facebook account so they probably don't care about that). Even the manual makes it sound like you have to create a Motoblur account and that is unethical. Considering I have things backed up through other means I don't want Motorola to hold my contacts and messages. Imagine you lose your phone overseas and go to an Internet cafe and log into your Motorola account to remove your phone data so it can't be stolen ... your Motoblur password then gets key logged and you lose much more (including the data that would have been on your phone anyway). IMO Motoblur offers little in good functionality. It's just an additional security risk. It's just an additional intrusion on your life. I own a Defy+ because I like the hardware. I don't use Motoblur widgets and I don't have a Motoblur account. My screens have been personalised and look beautiful. The customised UI and software is now functional and productive for my needs.

I have been having issues with the keyboard lagging especially typing text in the browser (when using desktop user agent). since then, I also experienced extreme lag when deleting files in the preinstalled file explorer. Anybody who is unable to update his handset via FOTA, just Hard Reset(will format the internal memory, so better take the backup first) the handset with below mentioned steps and then try to update from 2.3.4-2.3.6 version. Steps to Hard Reset Motorola Defy+: 1.) Power Off the Handset. 2.) With Device off, press & hold the Down Volume Key + Power Key. 3.) Release the Volume Key and Power Key when "M" logo appears. 4.) Press & Hold the Down Volume key + Up Volume Key when a yellow exclamation mark appears on the screen. 5.) Release both the keys when "Android System Recovery Mode" appears. 6.) There should be a link somewhere that will check your phone for updates. Phone needs to be connected and still within warranty. As for battery, You should get some good usage. I find that with 3g on and synching along with a lot of playing about, I'll need to recharge after around 12 hours or so.

@PRIDE, I am located in India and the software update app is not giving any form of notification when I connect the phone. I am also worried about the battery as it does not provide even a full day.

the battery can stay for 2 days, for me by the end of the day my defy+ still have about 60% of the battery ,, i used games and phone calls and WiFi for skype calls and Whatsapp.. i like this so much. i vote 10 for this phone

Glad you like the phone, although you did say sound via headphones, not so good. Have you tried using a different set of earphones because while I found the standared headphones not so good, I used a different set that I bought, changed the setting in the sound option and sound is now superb.

good phone.. to be frank i intentionally dropped it into water three times this week.. it survived.. the problems i face is a little hang up of the device(rarely).. Pls dont compare with HTC desire or LG Optimus 505.. its a different game with DEFY+ motoblur is not so useful.. tough body....sound is good.. earphone is not as good as expected.. I am happy with the phone :-)

I just bought this phone. In the main screen where memory card sign is shown nearby the battery sign, the exclamatory mark appears. I doubt that it has some defect in memory card slot. Do I need to worry? What does it mean?

Go back a couple of pages to see a review I did. I really love the phone but as my review says by particular handset had some build issues that were a bit annoying. Software wise Motoblur is not for everyone but I just decided never to use it :) Motoblur contacts are really badly structured and I will probably need to re-enter about half the contacts I converted so that they are logically usable. There are a bunch of illogical poorly designed interface features but all of them seem replaceable with 3rd party solutions (which also look much better than the Motorola stuff). I don't regret buying my Defy+ but it is not without issues. I would say it is the best 3.7" device on the market atm.

Internet settings should be automatically found durring settup. I have a vodafone sim and also a 3 sim which the phone had no problem getting. You need to make sure the settinfs are enabled. (settings-wireless& networks-mobile networks-access point names) make sure the relevent one is ticked.

Default browser is Ok. Slower at loading pages than Dolphin browser. The fastest seems to be Opera. However, when scrolling through text boxes, the default browser seems to be the only one that can perform this task. Otherwise overall, the Opera browser for this phone seems to be the most reliable. So in overview, apps that I recommend you install for this phone would be: 1) Lux Auto Brightness for the auto brightness fix. 2) Swiftkey X if you like vibration while typing (stock keyboard vibration lags alittle when using desktop settings when browsing). 3) Anyone with the flashplayer 10.2 issue. Manually search flashplayer in. the android market then update. Back the update using Androzip from the market then just reupdate everytime you reboot the phone.

Well on default dialler there is NO Delete Button when you are in-call... like if you want to note down any number during call you can not delete it or modify it.... check it when on call click Dial pad....

The problem is not so much the stock keyboard keeping up with my typing, it's more the vibration that cant keep up at times. Like, you I found that keeping the vibration off was better for me because it would mess with my rythem when typing. It was more the vibration lagging than the typing itself. Swiftkey x doesn't have that problem and the vibration can be adjusted in a way that is subtle enough to notice key presses but not over powerfull. Swype is good but I have not perfected it yet.

Really? I use the Swype keyboard with no haptic feedback. Haptic feedback is a newbee thing and isn't useful for Swype anyway. I find the Swype keyboard provided many times faster than previous keyboards I have used.

There is a delete button on the dialler so no issue there. I have not found the phone heating up on calls. I have found that if you leave the screen, GPS and WiFi on while charging then it gets warm. Not many people would leave the screen on though :)

I did download the GO Keyboard, and although it's good like you say I found that it does not have the QWERTY setup. I Instead it has the QWERTZ instead. SwiftKey X is the otherness that I am trying at the moment.. I downloaded the free trial version for one month.. So far, and it's keeping up with my typing. It just seems the the defy plus has quite a few minor bugs that although annoying, and are solved by a few Android Market alps.

Thanks for that. I checked the task manager and typically, it seems that when the android cpu reaches around 30+ % usage, then the keyboard starts to slow a little so I close some apps that eat alot of ram (even the ones that arent running at the time, and once I get the system cpu down to around the 19% mark, the keyboard starts playing nice again. will keep an eye to see if there is a specific app eating a lot of ram.

very good phone with a shameful battery back up. I bought just a week back and its getting drained to 10% within 24hrs and without any use at all and in 2g network. In 3G and with moderate use only 12-14hrs. I heard of poor battery of general MOTO phones and its seems very true.

Maybe you have some background app that is accesing you keyboard and this way "eating up" its speed. try this keyboard , search it on Android Market, its free and "GO" Software is 100% legit, very professional team, so search on Google Market for " GO Keyboard ". Has many themes and customizations.

Keyboad lag is beyond a joke so I have had to turn off the vibration for the keyboard when typing. Not so bad then because it is less distracting when the letters take a second or so to catch up if you type fast. Please note that the Motorila Defy is not listed as shock proof. Only listed as water resistant and dust proof so do not assume that you can go swimming with it or think you can drop it as many times as you like without damaging it. If it survives a drop or two then count yourself lucky that the thing has not broken yet. The JCB edition does come with a protective case, abit like one of those silicone ones although this one is made from a special material that hardens up on impact which will make this thing shock proof when it's on. I have briefly tested this thing under a running tap for about 10 seconds and it still works with no issues, so at least the claim that it is water risistant seems to hold true. There are still a few annoying issues like flash player skipping on a few sites like iplayer (which did'nt happen with some of my other phones). The backlight won't dim down when the phone goes into darkeness again. This is not a hardware issue but a software one as Lux Autobrightness from tge marketplace cured this problem. The issue of flashplayer still being 10.2 even after my update still remains, so I have to manualy update after each time the phone reboots. Keyboard lags at intevals when typing on the web but is fine durring texts, etc.

Ok, so I checked Motorola's website and contrary to the person at Motorola telling me that 2.3.4 was the latest update, I have updated to 2.3.5 via Motorola's website. (as I had no luck with the OTA). So it would seem that 2.3.6. is not available in the UK...yet.

Have not encountered these problems so far. of course there is a delete button when entering phone numbers in the dialer. On a side note I find that although there are a few annoying bugs (most of which have workarounds). the louspeaker is excellent, loud and very crisp. Calling on this mobile is a real pleasure.
