Motorola Tundra VA76r - User Reviews

 • absolutely. the same thing on the right hinge.Cracked, flipping the phone open just flops around real easy.So loose. careful to super glue the crack. Helps some.

 • Bought the Tundra because it was supposed to be tough...WHAT A JOKE...At the first slight drop the plastic around the upper right corner and over the hinge explodes.. I am not talking about a 4 foot drop, It will fail from 12 inches.. I bought a second one thinking i had a fluke but same thing happened. At some point, almost everyone drops their phone but the Tundra is a TOTAL PIECE OF CRAP when it falls...Buy a cheap phone and Forget about it!!!!!!

 • Had mine for years. Survived all kinds of abuse. Right hinge finally gave out. Managed to keep it going by adding goop (carefully) to the hinge to beef it up. worked several more years. just bought another used one on ebay and will apply goop to bolster the hinges.

 • this phone lasted 5 years with normal use (siting on it, dropping it, under rain, on construction site). After about 4,5 years it started to break apart - hinge gave in, rubber coating cracked and started to peel off, rubber buttons cracked and felt off. Finally it didn't turn on at all. It outlasted all of my previous phones, even some first clam-shell motorolas of late 1990's.

 • yep, Great Phone With A 2 Cent Hinge. Ive Got 3 With Broken Hinges.Alsome Phones Exept That. ''and they don't no about it. I had insurane on one of them and they said they cant fix it and replaced it with a rugsby. K

 • How do I get the VPN on my VA76r from ATT

 • better than "smartphones"

 • I Have 2 Tundra Phones to for 4 years and the only thing wrong is the springs also. can't believe they quit making such a good phone like this. JUST MAKE A BETTER HINGE SPRING And repair all of these faulty springs. SCOTTY.

 • I can send the parts to you , and you can change it by yourself ?

 • I've had my phone for 4 years. My problem is my camera and video no longer work. I get "unknown error, picture capture failed". Anyone else had this? Is there a solution? Apparently the phone is no longer sold or serviced.

 • I am someone who just wants a basic, tough phone. But I have 3 Tundras that I have been swapping parts out on for a while. I love the phone's software. Layout and feel. It picks up signals like no other phone I have seen. But the hinges are broken on all three. And two of the antennas. I am not a construction worker, nor do I do "tests"!to see how rugged it actually is. I now have gotten an original Rugby from a friend to try. The recptions stinks. But it is not even a comparison as to the "toughness" of the two. The Rugby is way more durable. As far as reception, it must be the external antenna on the Tundra. There is obviously a problems with the hinge. Look on Ebay. There are a crazy number for sale due to broken hinges. Probably needs to be a class action suit since Motorola will not voluntarily make it right.

 • Make your own ring tones by opening up voice recorder go to any web page that plays a sample tune or ring. Record/Save then bring up the saved file and apply it as a ring tone. Make sure your environment is silent or you will hear background noise.

 • Mine has the same problem. Called Motorola and they said tough. They said they have had no other complains of this type.

 • yes. no complaints at all. it's taken a hell of a beating and it's still solid. loud speaker, solid vibrate. only problem is that some providers dont allow your own ringtones :(

 • Is this phone available in India?

 • does the tundra have a strong vibrate when the ringer is off?

 • This phone is built to MIL-STD-830i and has been stepped on by my horse, carted around in his mouth, dropped in his watter trauth, gone flying off my belt when riding, and took a trip down the road off my motorcycle. Four years and still going strong! This is the phone for the working man that plays hard.

 • I've had this phone about 3yrs. I get reception in places Verizon doesn't even know exists. The only complaint is the voice recognition program is not as good as it could be. This is by far the best Motorola phone since the Star Tac. When a phone more durable comes along I might consider changing. true this phone may not be text user friendly like a Droid or one of the other in that line of phone, but if I need to send text messages I'll get a PC. After all its a phone, and your supposed to "talk" on phones.

 • Have had my tundra for almost two years and still works o.k. This phone does not like "inside calls" whatsoever. I would expect more from Motorola seeing they have been around forever.....

 • Cant get reception on this phone for some reason in my house. I have a old razor though and get full bars! is there something that i can do to help the reception.

 • Had mine for 3 months and spring is broke in the hinge. I have AT&T insurance and they say it is up to the manufacture to determine if it was misuse. There needs to be an CIVIL SUIT served on motorolla and AT&T for scaming hard working AMERICANS.

 • Inferior components and an inefficient menu fail this otherwise good phone. Outgoing sound in speakerphone mode puts the Sonim X1 to shame.

 • Inferior components (like the hinge) and an inefficient menu (call waiting) plague this otherwise good phone.

 • Purchased 8/23/10. I like the phone's raised and easy to read buttons and reception but it is unreliable. Video and email have failed. However,I learned that resetting the phone to default cures all problems, and you can then repersonalize. Hinge is very strong, compared to other reviews. Also, you can set the font size permanently, a feature lacking in the Razr V3xx. I would not buy this phone again, and only feel safe because my old Razr is ready to do service if called upon.

 • The hinge spring or whatever keeps the phone closed is J U N K... My tundra flops around like a fish out of water... It really looks like a reputable company like Motorola would put out a better quality piece of merchandise AND take RESPONSIBILITY when they blow it as they did with the tundra...

 • my lid will not stay open and my hinge is loose

 • You need to contact your manufacturer for that issue

 • I am on my third Tundra, each one lasting about six months before the hinge breaks. I like everything about the Tundra except the hinge problem, I probably want buy another Motorola because of the price and hinge problem with the Tundra.

 • same with my lid will not stay closed

 • MY phone is locked and forgot the password,do any default pwd exists for this phone???

 • I work for a water district. Me and 2 others have the phone we have had several problems with the phones. One problem is it will occasionally turn itself off and turn its self back on. The biggest problem is the hinge we have have in about a 6 month period 3 replacement phones for the hinge, and 2 more on the way. I work mainly in the office keep my phone in pocket seperate from anything else, never dropped it and the hinge is broke.

 • I have been very happy with my Tundra. I work outside and use it very rough. I have had it 1.5 yrs without any problems. I sit on it and don't baby it.

 • This phone has great reception and so far has stood up to some rough treatment (6+months) there are many features on this phone I will never use and do wish I could delete the contacts AT&T has programed into it.Battery life is very good for me but then again I only use it to talk and occasional text message, could use bigger lettering. Over all a good phone but not great. The price is too high, bought mine used but it looked and worked like new. I work in the construction field and have gone through many cells phones until the tundra I would buy another but again I would look in the used market.

 • I am using the second Tundra VA76r and it to has started making the clicking noise when the lid is opened and closed. The first one I bought last may and it last maybe 7 months then I finally managed to have it replaced and this one is doing the same thing. It is on the right side also. The same bulge under the rubber overmolding.

 • Have had my phone, bought new, for approx. 4 months. Same problem as many of you-clicking/cracked hinge. Of course, not under warranty!

 • Excellent reception. Used it for several months, hinge spring broke under normal use. Sent it to Motorola for repair, as it had a year warranty. They sent it back to me stating "misuse or abuse not covered" and did not fix it. Sent it to CellularDR to fix. They fixed it and less than a year later I have the same problem. Sure expected to get more than a few months use out of a "milspec, nie indestructible". I will NOT be buying any more Motorola phones!! The warranty is useless and the quality is subpar.

 • My second Tundra has developed the bulge in the rubber overmoulding by the hingepoint indicating the hinge spring has popped out of place and probably broken. The first one didn't last 6 months............and neither did this one.........You'd think for a Milspec phone Motorola would honor a recall and do something to redesign this problem............

 • I would like to see what someone from Motorola has to say about this phone. Are they working on the hinge so it will last longer than six months. Another problem i have is that the stores that sell these phones take your money but are not responsible to fix the items they sell.

 • I have had this phone less than a year and the hinge has already went out to the point it makes you miss calls. I have a friend that has had three different Tundras with the same problem. For the money they are JUNK!!!!!

 • On my second one after the hinge broke on the first one. Now the hinge is making that same groaning, clicking noise the first one was making when it broke. I'm going to get something else.

 • Was wondering if anyone is having problems with the hinge on this phone?

 • every thing worked on my phone for what i needed[i work on a farm]but after about 3 months people on the other end of calls could only hear about every third word i would say.needless to say this was VERY ANNOYING.have taken it to a service rep twice and no fix....now they are sending a re conditioned one to me. lets hope for the best.

 • Took this phone to Afghanistan, rugged as hell, dropped, kicked, subject to explosion shockwaves, still worked. Good phone for Military use.

 • I have a Tundra and am experimenting with a Samsung Ruby II - both with AT&T. The Tundra is clearly the better phone. The Rugby II has poor cellular signal indoor penetration. I have been in buildings where the Rugby II did not have any signal or service but the Tundra gave me all my bars and had excellent call quality. This occurs also in my own home. I think the difference is that the Tundra has the external antenna.

 • I feel the Motorola is overpriced and over rated!! Used it for several months, hinge broke under normal use-sent it to Motorola for repair, as it had a year warrenty. They sent it back to me stating "mis use" and did not fix it.Sure expected to get more than 10 months use out of a "heavy duty, indistructible, expensive phone" that out military uses. I will NOT be buying any more Motorola phones!! They are not that great, and the warrenty is useless.

 • I should say that it is terribly over priced. No phone is worth $179 after rebate and with 2 year contract. Moto went on the cheap with this bandit, even omitting a back cover lock. Multimedia font is far too small, requiring you to use its options menu for the zoom. It only has advanced call reception to offer, and if that is a major factor for you, then buy it! as Lee Iococa used to say.

 • I did a water test and now people can only hear me on speaker phone. its slow and moto should have kept the same format as the v551, razor and v365. I say buy 4 v365's off of ebay at $50 bucks each, and when you destroy one, go the the next. should get 3 or 4 years of use. I dropped my v365 and lost all my songs and stuff so i went to the tundra, which sucks. Ive gotten approved for a new one but gonna wait on the rugby II. I think it is a better phone from what im seeing. I say just buy a good used phone and save ur money, unless u want an Iphone or something. I just need a phone that gets good reception and is loud and a little bit tough. don't buy the tundra.

 • It made past the 14 days with normal use on a full charge. I am trying a BT90 battery just to see how long it will mantain a charge. The BT90 puts 1800 M/ah compared to The BT60 puts 1100 M/ah. I just wish they made a deeper back to accomodate the BT90. The factory back is to shallow.

 • I don't know what you guys are doing to this Tundra but it is definately not normal use. Kinda scary when you think about the options you have for use of this phone. I am a construction worker. My phone has been dropped from over 30 feet on several occasions....still works! It has neen rained on and dropped in mud puddles more times than I can count.....still works! It has fallen off the bed rail of my truck on at least 5 occasions....still works! Now if you all are looking for a little dainty computer touch screen phone that looks rugged and you want it to make you look rugged too then come out of the closet, buy one of the pink or neon green phones and own up to what you really are. As for a real working man that wears a tool bag and works every day in the hot sun and sweats alot on my self and my Tundra I say It's one of the toughest phones I have ever had! Maybe if it would talk to you all that dislike it would find it more appealing. Especially if it talked real sweet!

 • I had some trouble getting the Tundra to hold a charge for more than 6 hrs. I have a cousin that works at the local AT&T store so I went to her for info. Having the ringer and vibrate on at the same time causes the phone to discharge rapidly. After being on the internet just punching the hang up key leaves cookies open (causes the battery to loose charge) so exit out of the internet with the exit key. After taking care of these 2 things My meter still shows full charge after 2 days. I'll see if it makes it the 14 days as advertised. Other than the charge issue the phone has been great with no other problems.

 • i can't see this page clearly because of Yahoo advertising, it's really bug me!!

 • I like the phone, but I can't get rid of the sounds when going from one application to another. I read the manual and can't find it. I don't want clicking or buzzing or any noise while taking pictures, etc.

 • I feel the same EXACT way that robotfist does. I too have just purchased one of these after spotting it in the AT&T store and I am utterly disappointed! I would like to love it (really I would). I thought it was going be just what I have been looking for a well crafted, durable high quality PHONE. I do not need a web browser, mp3 player, rocket launcher or coffee maker I just want a good quality PHONE! Endless streams of useless software menus do not impress me. In fact, in most cases less is better! I bought this to upgrade my trusty old Samsung SGH-X427 that I got free some 8 years ago. There was nothing wrong with my old phone, with the exception that is has been submerged underwater (3 times), kicked, dropped and beaten to the point where it is shameful looking, BUT IT STILL WORKS loud and clear and has NEVER failed. Best of all it is a PHONE! No frills. I have been scared to replace my trusty but aging friend because of fear of buyers remorse and man do I have that now! The Tundra looks great and appears to be well built, the sound quality is crap and it does not last long on a charge. The menu system is endless and filled with such useless clutter it is annoying. The camera button on the side is a pain because every time I grab it to remove it from the holster, it goes into camera mode and takes snap shots. The software locks up and it is fussy about Bluetooth compatibility. Bottom line I hate it!!! I will most likely try to return it to my local AT&T store where I bought it and go back to my old phone. Waste of money!

 • Good Points. What I hate the most is the inconveniences with the Phone book. I have several categories in my other phone (with almost 800 phone numbers) and this phone you can't do anything simple with it. I'll take my poor reception and dropped calls with my worn out Razr v3 any day. The Tundra is crap in a durable case.

 • i actually had the same thing..under the rubber (suppose to make it look tough) the right hinge cracked in pieces..but i didnt drop it at all..just broke apart from normal wear..i had it for 7 months.at first i couldnt see and just thought my clam shell wasnt closing right..but then i looked under the rubber and i seen it..motorola sucks

 • phone is the fakest rugged phone i ever experienced..i feel motorola just used the rugged theme for a marketing tool..made the phone looked beef up to sell it..thing is not rugged one bit..i never even put it in a industrial/construction enviroment and clam shell doesnt close right....now the screen is black....att is total crap..told me that its considered physical damage and wont honor the 1 year warranty..i argued that physical damage is damage that can be seen..not with att...i argued its internal mechanical damage..they didnt care..att stinks..go with another carrier..and dont get this phone..its a total rugged fake

 • The Phone Is No Good, I got my money refunded and took them to the better business bureau case is pending. Don't get this phone if you are use to smart phones.

 • At&t Motorola Tundra sucks. At&t takes over 1/2 of my phone book with propaganda that I can not delete. Also makes a terrible noise when starting up and shutting down. Sluggish too.

 • don't listen to him he just exaggerates on purpose.

 • lol !! lol lol !!!! :)

 • This Motorola Tundra VA76r is very disappointing. The hinge on the phone is made out of the thinnest plastic and if you happen to drop it while you are actually using it, that is with the phone unfolded, well, then, SNAP. A chunk of the hinge flies out and you have an exposed flat plastic wire showing. And if you have the temerity to use it again, unfolded, and drop it a few feet again - snap goes the ribbon wire and you have "Severe physical damage due to misuse and abuse"! Too bad. Go online and look at their examples and then look at my nearly pristine 5-month old phone! So silly me, I sent it in thinking, "Oh, Motorola stands by their MIL spec rugged phone." Not a chance....I actually sent it in and...NOPE. they sent it back to me - unrepaired. All my phone call got was "I'm sorry you feel that way" automaton phone service person, after waiting 7 minutes on hold. Lovely. Be warned!

 • I own this phone and I think it works fine. I like the fact that it is big, heavy, and rugged. The user menu is easy to use and it gets great reception. It is not a smart phone but i don't want one anyway if I did I would have got the I-phone but I would have broken that is less than a month. Some issues that I think are either annoying or lacking are: -ear piece volume is low, wish it was as loud as the V-365, but this is not a big deal -You cant make calls with it when it is plugged in to the USB of your computer. -You have to go through the menu to change ringer volume, but changing from ring to vibrate is easy. Other than those three things I think this is a great phone.

 • nice

 • Phone won't receive over the air software update. Randomly not receiving calls - will get a missed call message while the phone is sitting in my hand and it never rand. Phone is only 45 days old and AT&T management wants to replace it with a refurb. I told them where to put the refurb!

 • A bout U'r comment on the Tundra Chimming after receiving a Text message till U look at it. The Rugby does the same thing, will Chime all night long or till U look at it. Thanks

 • I've had this phone 6 mos. Its a piece of SH**. Dropped it (closed) from my belt clip onto carpet and it destroyed the inside LCD screen! SOME RUGGED PHONE-----NOT!!!!! Paid $200 for it, because "its the most rugged phone AT&T sells". Sound quality sucks, inbound and outbound and most aggravating...it does not live up to sells pitch for rugged use.

 • is this phone gonna be available in thailand?

 • It looks like has been made in 20th century!

 • This phone has some major issues. Yes, it's durable. But that's about the only good selling point. First off, the ear piece sounds TERRIBLE. The call quality is astoundingly bad. Second, the volume on the phone only goes up to 7 and it sounds even lower than that. I do not believe anyone could use this phone in a loud environment and hear the other caller. Third, When receiving a text message, the Tundra will KEEP CHIMING unless you view the text. The ONLY way to turn the alert off is to switch the phone to silent or turn off all alerts for all text messages (which means the phone won't notify you at all when you receive them). Motorola has confirmed this. The software developers for this phone are borderline retarded. If someone sends me a text message while I'm asleep, the phone will sit there and chime for hours on end until the battery is run down or I get up to view the message. To go to sleep I have to turn the phone completely off. Fourth, the Contacts List is filled up with preset AT&T service numbers YOU CANNOT DELETE. since the screen is so small, and since the word AT&T starts with the letter "A", every time you pull up your contacts the entire screen is filled with AT&T service numbers. Unless all your friends are named Alan or Angela, they will all be placed below the AT&T numbers, which is STUPID. When I press the "Contacts" button, I want to see MY contacts, not a full list of AT&T crap. Fifth, the battery gives you about 4 hours of talk time, realistically. That's about the battery life of the iPhone which has true GPS, a faster processor, and a screen 3 times the size of the Tundra's. Why is the Tundra's battery life so abysmal? Sixth, the Tundra's processor is SLOOOOWW. The screen redraw is awful and the menu pages can sometimes be achingly slow to access. It is my opinion that Motorola crammed a subpar phone into a FANTASTIC case and then charged a premium. But don't believe the hype. Why have such an amazing, protective case on a crap phone? It doesn't add up. You'd be better of getting a $50 dollar phone with insurance than this clunker. Just my two cents.

 • Америкосы! Когда начнете продавать его в РОССИИ?

 • Yes, this phone should work in Australia (given being unlocked), but not exactly everywhere in the world. Countries like South Korea and Japan use other 2G systems (CDMA), so 2G GSM phones do not work in these places.

 • i want this phone.but i live in bulgaria......

 • how much does it cost & when is it expected to be launched in india

 • Want to buy this fone. Is there anyway i can get this? Im from the Philippines but we dont have AT&T here. Any information on how i can grab one and have it unlocked? Any positive info will be greatly appreciated. Thanks

 • gsmphone-unlocking.com did mine in 20mins

 • ive had this phone for almost a year now..holding up excellent..i dipped it in saw coolant at my work with the phone opened...didnt affect it at all....and check out this link..they launch a tundra twice from a life size catapult

 • It has quad-band GSM neetwork capability wich mean it should be usable anywhere on this earth including australia

 • I went to AT&T in Atlanta to buy this yesterday and they have stopped selling it.

 • I got this phone from Rogers (Canada) back in Jan. 2009. I regret to say that 8months later Aug. 2009 it is DEAD! Apparently it the whole "RUGGED CONSTRUCTION Mil Spec 810F for heat, cold, dust, vibrations, shocks, drops and water resistance" is a lot of bull. This phone may have been water resistant to 1Meter for 30minutes when brand new, but 8months later it died of water damage in a jug of beer. It turns out this phone has an Achilles heel that is its hinge, the greenish plastic crumbles and damages the ribbon running between the two LCD's killing them both. The mil spec issue aside, the phone was great, bulky but great. Found a guy who claims he'll fix it for $65 CDN just waiting to see what my buddys experience with the guy is and whether he'll see his iPhone 3G ever again...

 • where i can buy unlocked Tundra VA76r

 • Need clarification people.....i want to get this phone but i live in australia. The spec says its GSM compatible but i want to make sure before i get one. Can any of you confirm that it will work on the GSM network in Australia? Im just a bit unsure as i wanted the other models that they brought out but they were all for Nextel(IDEN) which meant that they wouldn't work in Australia. You clarification is appreciated.

 • this phone is already ancient. probably you can find it in one of the pyramids. good luck for the search.

 • Just got a Tundra. It has best sound of any phone I've ever had. Tested the NoiseCancelling: called my home answering machine from crowded, noisy, coffee-shop, music in background etc. Played it back home, sounded like I was calling from a library. Same when I get a call. Amazing, clear, clear, clear. Reception is terrific, got a call in an elevator in Manhattan in a building 110 years old with brick walls thick as a tree trunks. It has a great feel in the hand, the hard rubbery case makes it very secure to grip, I LIKE the weight and substantial feel of it. Yet I can carry it in my pocket. Buttons are large, recessed in middle, easy to dial, screen is very sharp and bright. I use the Talking Menu function for finding contacts - very handy to use while walking or driving (though I try not to talk on phone while driving. VERY DANGEROUS HABIT - speakerphone or no. Speakerphone on the Tundra is very easy to hear clearly. As far as all the other apps and functions cell phones have now: it's not a SmartPhone. It's a Phone-Phone. And it does that remarkably well for me. If the other is important, you should buy a SmartPhone. Anyway: A+ Very Satisfied.

 • numbers toooo small to read on in coming calls

 • IAM IN EGYPT HOW CAN BUY IT AND WHERE ? PLZ INFORED

 • This phone still not release for ASIA Market. Already waiting a long time.

 • volume button on left side, only works when talking

 • Just get a N97 and you'll have a phone with both phoning capabilities as well as nHD entertainment.

 • fone looks good for a second fone...specially if u have iphone as ur primary number.wish they release this fone in australia asap

 • How is it bad marketing? do you have it?

 • Why is it bad marketing ?

 • My husband received his Tundra about 3 weeks ago and hasn't had any problems with it. He accidentally tested out the ruggedness of the phone as well. About a week after he got his phone, he was building a pad for a house and accidently dropped his phone. He didn't know it until he went to make a call and couldn't find it. We looked everywhere for it and found in about an inch below the surface of the pad, in the middle of the track from the back-hoe. He had run over the phone with the back-hoe. After he picked up the phone, he blew off the dirt with an air compressor and the made the call. Even after being run over with the back-hoe and covered with dirt/rocks, there are no scratches and the phone works fine. We would recommend this phone to anyone who works in a construction/heavy industry environment where a phone usually takes a lot of abuse.

 • Motorola became straight garbage. This phone is topic of recession. Trying to make this product a Niche product? I wonder whos the product developer of motorola, theres a certain group that phone manufactures try to target with every product produced. This phone targets construction workers. Bad marketing B

 • The antenna is a major weak point on this phone. I love it, but the antenna is simply pushed into a recepticle with weak plastic and pops off easily, breaking the antenna wire. Nearly any lateral stress to the antenna will cause this. I have had older phones with antenna that were virtually soldered on and would require a hammer to break off. Not so with the Tundra. VERY weak point. Mine already returned due to this, likely just from sitting down with it in my holster. DON'T GET THIS PHONE. Otherwise, it works great...but this is a serious problem on a supposed rugged phone. Get the Rugby, not this. The flip design is stupid as well, because it is just another weak point. They PAY people to design these things!? I could do much, much better.

 • agree wid u sooner d better

 • Well yes i can, but the contact's for AT&T alone, (6 of them) take up screen realestate (1 full screen)That not all useres of the phone need. and as far as the demo games go, there just in the way. This phone had construction (job site) persons in mind, and most that i know that would have a use for the reggit phone would not be playing games on a phone of this type. (iphone yes) It realy just boils down to the user haveing no say in the type of set up he/she wants. that all. All they have to do is to ENABLE a deleat for what you do not have a need for. But i thank there's sale's after the sale, like buying space. I should have only paiyed 1/2 for the phone if if 1/2 is mine and 1/2 is outhers. :)

 • Some things being installed in the phone like ringtones and games simply cannot be deleted.... Or else, can you simply ignore the existance of the games and ringtone? I wish this phone is available where I live, unfortunately no.

 • EDIT: I ment from the phone not the sim card.

 • I like this phone due to the durability for outside use in Industrial construction. What i doin't like is the 5 demo games (and a few other thangs) That are locked out,and cant be deleted fron the sim card. ATT cant help. and i have yet heard back form MOTO abut this. But for a working man/woman that doesnt need a "office phone" (blackberry, iphone etc.) it's a good choice.

 • motorola india please launch something like this for below 4k in India. Lots of people who are employed in industries where outdoor use is a must whether rain or shine would buy it.

 • When is a durable, functional phone like this one going to be availble in Australia

 • I bought one. It is the first cell phone I have been happy with. I cover an area about 3,000 sq miles in northern Louisiana. This phone has given me signal strength in all the areas I have been. None of the the 8-10 other phones I have had did that. Also it withstands all the punishment of heat, fights, being knocked around and thrown about in cars. It truly works as well as it is advertised.

 • Maybe never! As from my observation (through SMRT around many stations, from downtown to suburban areas) a few years back, the almighty brand captured nearly 80% of the market share, and most others (maybe except Samsung & SE) were not really agressive about marketing their mobile phone products in the beautiful garden city. I really like most aspects of the garden city, except the fact 80% of the time I can only hear the specail tone by the almighty brand...and the fact catching a cab (other than hotels) seems like winning a lottery. Overall people are rather polite as they speak very softly in trains, which I really appreciate. (Total silence in Japan is a bit over...)

 • any idea if it will be available in India. Its funny that none of the companies offer a rugged handset in a place like India where such a handset would have been perfect.

 • I purchased a Tundra. I love the phone. I was thinking of getting a "smart phone" or one along those lines. I'm glad I didn't. I love the phone and would recommend it. The reception is great. No problems with it at all!!!!!

 • nice phone

 • Just wondering why these phones are never available in Singapore. Frankly, I hate the phones sold in Asia nowadays - they no longer focus on durability - when most people need is just call and text. I hope those music playung and cameras could be in a phone that looks like a startac and as durable as a startac.

 • reminds me of CSI.. Agents requesting run on Suspect ID.

 • If you haven't tested other brands' rugged phones with built-in antenna, how did you know / draw the conclusion these phones offer the same, if not better, reception than those with external antenna? I still have 2 phones with external antenna (Moto P7689 & V60i) and they prove to have better reception on my other phones with built-in antenna. I wasn't asking for any published comparision tests, just curious as if you even really compared 2 or more phones with and without external antenna. Maybe you've your point regarding the durability of flip phones, though here is my view: - my Moto V60i, being a flip phone which I bought in 2001, still WORKS PERFECTLY in 2009 - maybe you can try to wear some heavy duty gloves and try to "search" for the answer / end call button on bar phones and let me know how well you can manage the buttons better than simply open / close the flip on a flip phone

 • No one ever did such comparison to my knowledge. There are few rugged phones (without external antenna of course) and none says it has problem with signal/reception. Frankly speaking I wonder how practical it is to build a rugged FLIP phone at the first place. Anyways if people like this design..well they might, but personally I don't buy those excuses. To me it is simply an old recycled design.

 • So which rugged phones with internal antenna proved to have better reception than those with external antenna? Do you have any experience to share with us?

 • Most of the iden phones have an antenna. This model is targeted somewhat to that audience. I tend to like antennas, gives you something to grab on to when pulling the phone out of a horizontal pouch (which is how I tend to carry my phones.) There's a spot where I work where my V9X (and V9) lose signal. The Tundra doesn't. Maybe it's the antenna...maybe it's not.

 • Why bringing up Tvs, Radios and walkies? It's a phone and Look does matter here. Till 2004-05 we had antennas. All new generation mobile phones have internal antenna now. Why? and let me tell you something it's Motorola who was last to phase out the antenna. I'm not surprised that they still having it. Now lets not talk about this model being rugged and the rest are for fashion. we have rugged phone for outdoor use from other manufacturers and they don't have antenna. A clamshell phone no matter how you make it will always be prone to damage thatnks to its folder hinge and flex cable. Motorola simply rolled out an old design.

 • My fiance recently bought this phone, thinking it would be great for work because of the rugged design. He had the phone for a month and a half, accidentally dropped it (from his ear to a concrete floor) and the phone snapped in HALF. NOT IMPRESSED. For a phone that boasts about its ruggedness, they should be embarassed!! I've had a razor for over a year now, and I've dropped it NUMEROUS times, and not once has it snapped in half. Buy at your own risk. Morotola has also had the phone for over a month now and we still don't know when he'll be getting it back!

 • I don't think people have said phones without antenna have problems searching signals. Rather phones with external antenna in general provides BETTER reception than phones without the external antenna. Think about the following cases - why all walkie-talkies, especially those being used by law enforcement officers, have external antenna? - why most, if not all, TV's only provide external antenna? (not really aware of any TV with bulit-in antenna) - why most radios reequires external antenna? (I've Moto EM35 with internal antenna, though to be honest, most of the time I still plug in the earphones as antenna for better reception) - why airplanes still have external antenna?

 • Does that mean all these phones without external one have problem searching signals?

 • External antenna might be ugly but it helps a lot in searching for signal.

 • and what exactly is your excuse for that ugly antenna...good for outdoor? We don't need an external antenna for outdoor use anymore. It's certainly outdated.

 • Superb Sound quality For the most part, it's built like a tank. I like the "old" looks...less likely to be stolen. It does freeze sometimes when I turn it off...does anybody have a solution other than taking out the battery?

 • very good phone i like it

 • Nokia??... Not Nokia, looks like Motorola old style (V635), anyway, I like it!

 • Strange, I didn't realize the almighty brand ever made a rugged FLIP phone...

 • hahaha,,,this design looks like Nokia phone...what's happening with Mo? they got poor ideas abt creative and inventive...!

 • Like it or not, Moto still makes some of the best flip phones around, unlike the almighty brand, who can't even manage its own so-called top of the line "slim" fliphone, which can break easily after ONLY ONE DROP. This Tundra was designed to sustain the harsh outdoor environment, and if you do not work outdoor, don't think you can ever appreciate the design of Tundra. Though just because you personally can't make good use of a Tundra, that doesn't mean nobody else on the planet think / work like you do.

 • Way to old..looks like a V220 or 525 :))...wtf..we are in 21st century..Motorola is going down to bankrupcy with this model of ..old school phone with antena :))

 • I don't like dis fone lookin.. Very Bad!! >:[

 • Bought one. Its a solid phone. Period. Great reception, built like a tank, easy to dial, great keypad, fantastic battery life! Want a great phone for talking? This is it!!

 • stop what u are doing...u guys are useless

 • in what way? motorola must look in a direction making phone its not in they lines

 • I have gone through 2 tundras in the last three weeks . the goodbye screens freeze and the phone stops working, have to dq the battery to reboot, phone store says never had this problem before, thinking about switching to another brand

 • Is the battery meter not working for all users? or just some of you?

 • I looked at this phone at the AT&T store, it seems like it is very well built when comparing it to all the flimsy free phones. I just wish it was a little more like the Motorola V950 Renegade offered by Sprint, which is a rugged phone but still practical when you take off your Carhartt.

 • Still, a good phone nowadays uses at least the ordinary 3g connection

 • That's because the Tundra is exclusively for US (at this moment) and runs on the US version 3G...which is different from the rest of the world.

 • funny how moto phailed to implement 3g hsdpa into zn5 but implemented it on this....

 • very good

 • i love this phone hope it will be release in my country Pilipinas.... Can your phone DEFY nature??? Motorola Tundra can.... what i like most in motorola phones is the Crystal talk.... nice moto :)

 • it looks like nextel phone

 • Whoever has this phone...do the text messages have a password security?

 • I wonder how most Blackberry / almighty E-series would survive any OUTDOOR environment with possible snow, dust, dirt, mud, etc...over a Tundra... I wish I can grab a copy, only the phone is exlusive for American.

 •
If you need a work phone why not use the Blackberry or the Nokia E-series. Both are heavily equipped work gadgets, not this Motorola's peace of crap.
Not everyone out there is a limp wristed office worker. Some of us actually have real jobs and don't need a phone loaded with a bunch of useless crap and can take the beating that the phone may receive while being toted around.

 • On thing is really confusing.. if any of u guys have read tundra's review(on phonescoop) it has 3G but the interface looks like Motomagx(watch the video). AFAIK 3G was not possible or problematic to get it on Linux. Also the specs say: OS Java/Linux (propreitory)

 • Are those Motos high or sumthing...24 mm thick go on a diet !!

 • I love Moto clam shell phones. in fact they dont make enough of them as there is little choice these days. Not everyone likes slide or Candybar phones. You Americans??????

 •
When are you Americans gonna get over the 90's design of the cellphones? Have you moved up yet form that age? Like the old saying goes: "If it ain't broke, don't fix it".

 • yea i had a nokia, i work out doors, lots of dust and fiberglass / cement particles, mixed with water it lasted 2 weeks. great phone motorola

 • QUOTE: "i think its a great out door /work phone .. i dont think it was designed for the casual phone user. the reception is great, easy to navigate the menu, the size really isn't an issue for me." If you need a work phone why not use the Blackberry or the Nokia E-series. Both are heavily equipped work gadgets, not this Motorola's peace of crap.

 • wow its been a long time that i havent seen phone with antena .. good work motorola you are in the right way to 19 century

 • i think its a great out door /work phone .. i dont think it was designed for the casual phone user. the reception is great, easy to navigate the menu, the size really isn't an issue for me.

 • I bought this phone 3 days ago. I like the rugged look and the large screen and gets excellent reception. The speakerphone quality is great. However, the phone has locked/glitched up twice already where the screen shorts out and does not respond. I've had to take out the battery and put it back in the second time to fix this. The idea is great, but if this problem continues, I will return it...

 • I don't have this issue ever. What are you doing with your pocket?

 • For those complainers, you DO realize this is marketed to Nextel-like users, right? The phone works very well. The only negative thing I could say is that the linux-java software has a few minor quarks. The only question I have is why did AT&T delay this launch for over a year?

 • Settings--Sound Profiles--Right arrow to second icon on top of screen--Select and adjust with side rocker switch.

 • Been a Nextel guy for years because of there "heavy duty" Motorola phones. It's about time someone else jumped into that end of the market to give us what we want-durability. I've had the Tundra for two weeks now and other than getting used to a "flip" phone, I can't find a thing wrong with it. It seems alot of guys don't like it. They say it's to big, to heavy, to bulky, etc. Well guys, if you really don't like it, I think it's safe to say your end of the market has already been well covered.

 • this phone is too big....its not an everyday phone, unless if your in contruction or in the army...other than that, not a good buy, i just sold mine

 • Got the tundra Friday. Excellent sound, speakerphone. Great batter so far, seems very sturdy. may get a 2nd batter at some point, didn't seem to have one available yet - not at store or online.

 • edge . 3g .2mp cam . Gps resiver . external anten . nice clamshel / i like this /good

 • having issues with the phone lock, not enjoying punching in the code to lock and unlock it every time it goes in the pocket after a call, if you dont lock it you might have a few photos of your pocket. and i cant seem to disable the extremely loud shutter sound when i take a picture, but at least it lets me know when i forgot to lock it. if any one could help me with the shutter sound, i would appreciate it.. other than those 2 things it seems good so far.

 • I have this phone, its a really smart and good solid phone...the size can be an issue because it is a little big, but overall the phone is a good buy.com

 • nice nice nice

 • nice like old moto 5-6 years later love this design

 • Uh, I think you must press the right directional key, (It works that way on my w209)

 • I love this set open this link to see rates of this mobile

 • SRSLY!!! Moto seems to have stopped in its tracks and fired all its designers during this recession.

 • Can someone tell me how to turn up the volume on the ringtone on this phone. I can't seem to find it anywhere. Thanks

 • hum isn't that phone from years ago ? hum moto stop doing that sending rubbish for the market come on after v3 there isn't any new ideas ? ok forget and go make radios

 • I just got one. Almost all specs are better that the Rugby! Screen size,240 x 320 pixels, 2.2 inches. Rugby 176 x 220 pixels. Speaker is !!. Back cover should have a screw lock. But when it's snapped shut it's sealed.

 • i think this phone looks good. will this be available in the philippines cause i want to have one.

 • attractive external anten

 • . Bought 2 new phones today ... MOTOROLA TUNDRA VA76r and a SAMSUNG RUGBY. Both phones are only 6 hours old ... but, I maybe like the feel of Motorola a bit better so far ??? As a design & test engineer, I like the battery cover locking screw on the Samsung much better than the "click-latch" on the Motorola Tundra's battery compartment cover. SOS PS .. On both of these phones ... the back covers look like they are locked when they are not. We dropped the back battery cover on the Motorola several times at the AT&T store when the top click-latch was accidently slightly bumped. Make sure that the "sides" of the back cover are "clicked" into place. .

 • glad to find "gentlemen phone", hope Tundra will sale in my country Indonesia

 • Arial??? OMG!! I'm living in the year 2000!!! Get rid of that thing!!! =0

 • love a good aerial :)

 • i like this phone,... specially the external antenne...with external antenna its look as a real phone... good good..... i will buy soon

 • Is this phone supposed to be like a Samsung A837 RUGBY???

 • No AT&T here in the Phil. Hope they also bring out an open-line version of it.. I just like the fone and I wanna have one,.

 • Considering the features it offers, i think the thickness can be forgiven..

 • Great! You can communicate, take photos, go anywhere with it and also use it for self-defense :-) I want one!

 • I love the external antenna...I think this is the phone for men...but as usual(exclusive 4 AT&T)

 • is this those kinda phones that have walkie talkie built in to them?

 • I liked this phone. At last a good design for men!

 • Just curious, why Moto has been releasing phones exclusively for AT&T recently (like V9x)? Others around the world also deserve such good phone, and I wouldn't mind to get one as I do drop my phone quite often.

 • Call me naive, which rugged phones out there designed for military use can be as slim as Razor?

 • this is a piece of crap like other motorola phones

 • this phone is perfect comparing with sonim XP1/3 because of the design, camera, 3G, GPS and all.

 • The most important feature of the clamshell is the body protected under american military standard (US 810F MIL). It's wet-, dust-, rain-, sand-, drop-, vibration proof. Don't forget newly 2-mikes 'CrystalTalk Plus' noise reduction system. That's all folks :)

 • This phone, from the specs looks good but it's very bulky and I don't see any flash on it. Motorola, you bring out a lot of good phone but you need to work on the camera's a bit more.

 • Great Phone But Needs Great Price Too

 • Good phone, but a bit bulky.

 • I think I like this fone than its slim-type siblings. Small size but with better grip. Just hope it'll give users that solid feel while texting or dialing.

 • Looks like a phone from the late nineties.....Bulkier than ever, simply horrible.....Is it really a Motorola?? The same comapny who invented de RAZr and SLVR series???......

 • Yeah man! its more useful than v3

 • At least it's more useful than V3 !!!
