at first sight i'm not gonna lie, i thought this phone was hot. it was unique and that was exactly what i was looking for. however, upon use, i was totally disappointed with the outcome. it stopped functioning after a month of owning the phone and it has only gotten worse by age. plus, i bought it in a different country from which i reside so i cant take it back :( i'm not gonna bash the phone and its features but my aim is only to express my misfortune (maybe its my bad luck). different people have different views and experiences but unfortunately mine was not that of a happy ending. good luck to new and prospective consumers anyways... keeping optimism alive.

Hey Folks, I see all the previous posts were posted in 2005... anyway, I just purchased the NEC 30 yesterday...in Shnaghai China. Its a cool looking sleek phone, and all I need is to make and recieve calls... And I got it at a throw away price from a showroom as I heard they are phasing out all the japanese phones out of the chinese market... Got it for about 175Euros... And i honestly think its not a great phone, but looks cool, and I guess serves the purpose... Gotta look into the features tonight ;-)

Nice looking phone but definitely NOT value for money. Way overpriced, and NEC support is the worse. Not recommended

my nec n930 gets hanged up i dont know how to replace the battery can anybody tells me what to do as no buttons are working.

Great phone, but has anyone solved the problem about not being to input more than 10 characters in the APN if we want to set the pnone up to send and receive MMS? All the network APN's in the UK, except Orange, have more than 10 characters.

I bought it in Hong kong. I have torubles with the SMS on soem Simm cards and cannot use gprs for web or email if the APN of the provider is more then 10 digits. The software that came with the N900 works fine with the n930 as long as you futz with the blue tooth comport on the PC and it deos sync with outlook in a kinda weird way. I also have the NEC N923 which is a much better phone but has no email and little calendar funtion but is 2mm thinner.

Been thinking about getting the N930, but worried about some of the comments; most important for me is SMS and sync with MS outlook.Has anyone managed to sync to a PC. Also I want to use it in Middle East and Europe, so where is it best to buy. Thanks, AA

Hi, Battery life is ok. But recharges superfast so that's not a problem. I'm having the same problem synchronising with my PC though. And with my Sony Clie. It just does not find the device. My laptop had no problem finidng the clie, but cannot find the phone nor can it find the headset. Might go down to NEC here in China and see what they have to say. will keep you posted. Ringtones are easy. You download them via gprs. Once again, phone looks great but it is not what I would call a good phone.

Dont worry, I've been a tad stupid! The answers are right here on this site!! and i still prefer the n930! anyone who actually has the n930 phone- is the battery life really poor- that is the only thing I am worried about

HI, I have just seen an advert for the NEC N940- and it was US$200 dollars more than the N930 so it stands to reason that it is a better phone- anybody know anything about it? I am intreged!!!

Thanks miguel for your efforts, For the sound quality, its excellent, the phone is really neat, but I'm facing a serious problem now, the setting for GPRS APN name is only limited to a maximum of 10 digits, so I can not enter the name of my mobile company APN name which consists of 15 digits, neither the IP address fits in that range, strange! I just bought this phone and please I need some help, I appreciate any response. 1) Every time I turn off the phone it goes back to the Chinese language, why it does'nt stick with the English. 2) I can not change the default pin number (it freezes when trying to do so). 3) It does'nt show the missing, dialed calls. 4) How can I permanently set it to the Vibrate mode. 5) How can I download different ring tones to it ? 6) Why I can'nt delete the photos which came pre-existing with the phone (I want to free more memory) ? 7) Is there anyway to upgrade the firmware ? 8) Can it communicate with the PC? 9) Any English manual out there ? Hi People, im looking to Buy this phone. I've found an Offer in Ebay.co.uk for �365 Brand New fom the East. I've read all your opinions which is very helpful. The only thing thats holding me back now is this talk about the speaker being located on the side. Does this mean the only way you can take a call is by clinching the phone between your Thumbe and index finger as appose to simply holding it in the palm of your hands. Also, could anybody tell me if its easy to text? Im thinking that if it's touch screen it should display the entire alphabet to tap on instead of the usual way of 3 letters to one button. Yup. It definitely has an onboarfd speaker. I have one and I do not like using the bluetooth the whole time either. speakers are located on the side, which makes it a bit weird. you basically hold the side of the phone to your ear so cannot squeeze it in between your ear and shoulder. Here in Shanghai it is about 600 or 650 Euro. would have to double check. Posted it before but forgot the exact amount (plus the Chinese currency has just been revaluated). It comes indeed with the NEC bluetooth and the leather wallet. Plus a little strap as well. Battery life is not very long, but it recharges extremely fast. It is a touch screen which I like so it comes with a little stylus (cf. Palm). You can also type Chinese with it. Haha.

Hi Oliver, Sure. Where do you live? Should be no problem to Fedex it to you. Box is quite big though. Box in a box in a box. Japanese wrapping style I guess I'm actually going to Hong Kong this weekend and can check if it is available there with an English manual (the one I bought here in Shanghai is only available with a Chinese manual)

Hi, To reset the phone, choose setting and then select no 11, factory settings. there you can choose reset all or clear all. menu is in English and Chinese. Prices here in Shanghai are about 600euro for the N930 with the bluetooth headset and leather wallet included. Manual is only in chinese though. I can help you buy one if you are interested

Dennis, strange, there is no reset button or what !!! maybe your only hope is to wait till the battery discharge. PS., when you bought your phone what exactly came inside the box ?

How can I reset the phone (or remove the battery)? I can't switch off the phone (or do anything at all). I feel like I want to smash the phone an buy a new one... So if you don't know what I can do could you suggest a new small phone????
