Lol, don't lie. I play PUBG on highest settings on mine without any issues. Also, camera is decent, don't expect flagship camera results from 2018 midrange phone. And this phone hangs almost never, but of course that Pocophone is better because it has flagship specs.

A50 is a great phone and both parties have their own strong points. If you want a telephoto camera and glass back you can go for A9 If you wanna go for a better battery life, a better positioned (personal opinion) fingerprint scanner (in-display), more updates and a display with higher S/D ratio go for A50.

Well yeah, if you care about camera almost any phone will be better than A9. I had a chance to use A20 few days ago, and even that phone produces better low light images than A9. So yeah, if you care about camera go for A50.

Go for Poco. Camera is about the same as it was, I feel like they did not touch it a bit. Also, Pocophone has flagship grade CPU, but if you care about build and design, and still want a more than enough powerful phone then go for A9. It's still a solid choice if you get it for a decent ammount of money.

Oh well, I will just say that even S6 Edge camera quality is a bit better than this. I just got that phone for cheap, and when I compare those two S6 has better quality, in my opinion. It is not a major difference, and A9 shoots decent pictures, but it just sucks that Samsung did not optimize A9 camera's, and probably never will.

Well A50 has exynos 9610 and A9 has SD660 which give around the same performance but newer chipsets are somehow optimised better for newer games. A9 has a better but smaller screen and has a low ratio so a tie? Battery life is a bit better on A50 but a9 has 18W instead of 15W, as if 3W makes a huge difference. 10 min difference at max. A9 has a faster, A50 has a better positioned (imo) fps They are really going for a tie but A50 is cheaper in my country so idk

1. I am with you here they really downgraded the quality and thats frustrating. But, like, We dont go zoom everything and we dont need to anyway. As much as I think its frustrating this can be overlooked (still a downgrade and I hate it) 2. I really dont get what that "glass back" love is about what does it even add to phone other than a new crackable glass and extra weight? I mean it feels premium but thats not that necessary is it? 3. Why does samsung need to be "that" unique tho? And also, how can they make it unique? Putting an irritating "Samsung" logo to the bottom chin? Bringing the dead home button back? Really? 2019 A series cut a lot of corners on the quality. The worst part is that they took liberties with pixel binning so that the quality of the images is only what you can expect from a 12 MP image. It's not a downsized 24 MP/32 MP but rather a 12 MP with "super pixels" that supposedly help in night shots. The build quality and materials of the 2019 A series is not really comparable to the 2018 counterparts either. OTOH the software experience in 2019 A series is definitely better and the SOCs used are quite good in comparison to the abysmal choices in the 2018 series. The worst part about the 2019 A series is not any of this, it's that before you reach the A80 and A90 (soon to be released), all of these A series phones look like some generic Chinese build, and don't have "signature Samsung design touch" (no, glasstic holo-back paint doesn't cut it, everyone has a good gradient job these days). Now, price discussion is one thing, Samsung phones were traditionally overpriced and that hurt them, but the design language is another. You can look at an Oppo or Realme and tell that this is an Oppo product. You can look at an Xperia and you know it's from Sony. And that was true for Samsung too till 2018, but in 2019 I really get confused whether it's really a Samsung in the hand of that user? I have no doubt Samsung will release really good A series phones in 2020, maybe they will take some of the feedback and bring back the premium materials and proprietary design language.... And generally speaking, A8x and A9x of any generation are well comparable to the A5x and A7x of the next generation. A8 (2016) and A9 Pro (2016) held up very well against the A5/A7 (2017), the same is true for the C9 Pro which holds up well against A8/A8+ (2018) and now the A9 (2018) which holds up well against the A50/A70 (2019).

A50 - if you can get the 6GB RAM version, or else A9. If you can't get the 6GB A50, go for A70. For detailed discussion read my post immediately before this one (below).

Galaxy A9's cameras are better than A50 and A70, especially in low light. In fact, A9 can take actual 24 MP pics with little quality loss whereas on A50 and A70 you need to use the 12 MP pixel binning mode to get the best quality (and even then, doesn't exceed A9's quality). As far as gaming goes, things work great on A9 but I imagine A50 and A70 will be good too. A80 is the best of all but honestly, the lack of headphone jack, NO expandable storage and high price make it a no-no for now. My 2 cents is: If you want to get the A80, just get the A9 instead. If you feel A70 is good, then A50 offers all that the A70 offers and almost identical camera experience (selfie megapixels aside) at a lower price. So your real two options here are A50 and A9. But A50 does not have 6GB RAM option in many countries, so in that case you'll need to consider A70 instead.

Out of those you mentioned, I would say that your best bet is A70. A9 is also still good, I can run PUBG maxed out without any issues, but camera quality is just average on it. There are a lot of options to mess around with, but if you think that you will get S10 quality pictures, just skip it. A50 is good if you don't mind plastic build, and I would just skip A80 for now, atleast until price drops, since you can get something like S9+ for less than a price of A80, which is still an upper midrange phone, while S9+ is a true flagship. But yeah, A70 is just too big for my taste, but it kinda offers the most out of those that you mentioned, but I with recent price drops I would consider S9+ or even S10E.

The Samsung Galaxy A9 was actually meant for people who wanted a good set of cameras on their smartphones instead of carrying a camera all the time with themselves wherever they go. I took out my A9 just two days ago and it still works awesomely well for a phone an year old. The ONE UI makes it even more awesome than before.

You can get it for around 400$ right now, brand new. I got mine on sale for a bit more than 350$, and it's a nice choice for this price. But, as someone mentioned, taking a look at Xiaomi K20 might be worth it, it's offering a bit more if you don't mind picking up a Xiaomi.

I bought 3 months ago A9 2018, and it's the super best phone, having fast processing, multitasking is awsm, display is bigger and its shape is very attractive, RAM and internal storage is also awsm. Battery timing is upto 48 hours with continuous use of wifi and other apps, games. Camera is perfect but not as much as i wanted. over all it is very best phone.

I bought this phone two days ago, but it already started to freeze. It looks impressive with 6GB RAM and 128GB internal memory, and with 4 (read: FOUR) back cameras (24MPx), but the photos are ridiculously bad. Any other cheap phone with one single camera and just 10MPx has better photos, than this"impressive" phone. Sound is also bad. Worse than cheaper phones. I am so dissapoonted with this phone. Wasted money. My former (now old) phone was S7 Edge. It was better in every aspect.

I think that Mi 9 is a better choice here. A9 is also a great phone, but Mi 9 beats it in camera quality and more recent CPU. Only downsides I see for Mi 9 is no headphone jack and no Micro SD card slot. But yeah, you really can't go wrong with any of them, since A9 still handles everything great.

Had this device about half a year so far and haven't ran into any of the problems I see people talking about on this, might just be lucky. I've had a tough case for the device since day 1 but it doesn't cover the screen yet haven't gotten any scratches and in terms of the camera when I was first using it without being used to the software I will admit the photos did come out a bit blurry but once I figured out how to use the focus properly I can say that the camera quality is quite similar to the S10 apart from the selfie camera though luckily I'm not a big selfie fan

I've recently bought Samsung A9, from their official website, and had to return it back: i'm so disappointed with photos quality! the front camera, when it takes selfies, is focusing only on one person from the group, or focuses on a tree in the background. Also the rear camera is not focusing at all. I've been taking so many photos, and only few of them were good, focusing properly. it's a shame having 4 cameras and not being able to take good pictures. Me and my sister compared the photos taken with my A9 and with her S8, the same environment, the same portrets and S8 is much better with only one rear camera!

I don't think so. I'm always careful with using my phones, and I never broke or scratched my screen. But with this one, I already managed to get two very small scratches on my display, and I really don't know how, since I always carry it in my pocket without anything else in it. So yeah, I would recommend tempered glass for this one, and I already ordered one.

You're welcome. Yes, it is smart to get insurance because what I noticed this screen is not so "scratch resistant", and probably not so durable. I carry phone in my pocket, without anything else in it, and I already have two very small scratches which are hardly noticable, but they are there. I don't know how I even got them, but I ordered screen protector for this kind of stuff.

Yes, I was using J7 2016 before this. Camera is just average, it has a lot of options but I would say that quality is the same as every other midranger. It's not bad, but it's not on the flagship level, I would say it like that. Build quality is great, there is no rattling or anything similar, and phone really feels premium. Also, it's great to have 6GB of RAM and 128GB of expandable storage, so running out of storage here is close to impossible. About CPU, Snapdragon 660 is still capable, and it runs PUBG on medium-high without a problem. For 350$ it seems like a good deal to me, I got it for similar price and I don't regret it.

I've watched a couple of reviews which were done in old Oreo days. They were approaching this phone as a Quad Camera flagship grade phone, so they are disappointed in that regard! Everything is great for me, just don't buy this phone if your main focus is camera quality. They are just average, but everything else on this phone is great. It is a strange move from Samsung, making a first quad camera phone, but not really caring too much about quality. So yeah, I don't really care about camera too much, and reason why I went for this one is a lot of RAM and storage, and very good performance.

Yeah. I went for A9 and it works great for me. I heard great stuff about Pocophone, but I did not go for it because of plastic build mostly. But yeah, everything else seems solid. A9 works great for me so far, and I upgraded from J7 2016, so it's a major difference to me.

They are not awful. People need to understand that this is not a flagship phone, and cameras won't be on par with flagship phones camera. But yeah, as far as I see camera(s) on this phone are decent, and there are ton of options to mess around wirh. So yeah, it can shoot some decent pictures, but don't expect something similar to let's say Pixel phone.

Hello. I purchased a9 2018 on 22.3.2019 then after 2 days the lower right side touch sometimes stop working.once restart it get fixed then again. Samsung service centre has replaced the handset with new one then again same problem is happening. I want to know do anyone of here is facing same issue?? Let me know as im planning for refund now.

They are both decent phones, but A9 is just a bit better. It has more RAM, storage is double and has stuff like NFC and Quick charge. But yeah, it all depends on the price you get them for.

Same here. Mine arrived yesterday, and phone feels and works great. I upgraded from J7 2016, so it's a massive upgrade for me. To be honest, it feels like having a true flagship in your hands. And yes, I updated to Android Pie with One UI yesterday, and no problems so far.

Well that is weird, because I just got it 24hrs ago for my birthday. Today i put it in my pocket with my keys for like 20 seconds just to take the jacket off. And the screen cracked in the left bottom corner. Not to mention that now when I type 70% of time types wrong letter. It just sucks. I had Xiaomi Chinese cheap phones that I dropped and threw few timea and nothing and it had 3D glass front and back. So I can easily say now that Samsung is crap. Now and never again. I'd rather not have a phone then have a crap

S8+ better than A9. Both of the phones have SuperAMOLED panels but S8+ has a better, HDR10-compatible and curved screen panel. S8+ has a more capable chipset than A9 (Exynos 8895 vs SD660). Exynos 8895 is more capable and more efficient (10nm vs 14nm) than SD660. Also Exynos 8895 is better for gaming because of its better GPU (G71 MP20 vs Adreno 512) On the camera department, although having much less megapixel count (12MP vs 24MP) than A9, S8+ has a much better main camera as it has OIS and bigger pixels (1.4 qm vs 0.9qm). Bigger pixels lowers noise, improves low-light performance and captured detail. OIS improves overall camera performance, especially low-light performance. Also, S8+ has a slightly bigger sensor size that lowers noise, improves low-light photography and widens the footage. For video capabilities, both of the phones can record FHD and 4K videos at 30FPS S8+ can also record 1080p at 60FPS. When it comes to selfie camera, S8+ sensor has much lower resolution (5MP vs 24MP) but can record 2K videos while A9 does it at 1080p. When it comes to battery life, S8+ has a slightly smaller battery (3500mah vs 3800mah) but this can be balanced by the more efficient 10nm chipset. Also, A9 is heavy, S8+ is a more compact phone. On the other hand, S8+ has an awkwardly placed fingerprint scanner (if you find it difficult to use, you can opt for iris scanner.

I came to the same conclusion like you that images from the A9 2018 main camera were kind of ok but certainly below expectations worst ever. I did run a number of test images with a surprising conclusion: SAMSUNG seems to have got the HDR algorithms wrong. With HDR on, the image isn't sharp at all and looks blurry in its details. Definitely a letdown. But when switching HDR to OFF, suddenly details come out sharp. What does this mean? I will leave HDR on OFF, and only use it eventually in scenes of very high contrast and if sharpness is not so important. I hope that SAMSUNG will work on its HDR software. The quality could be there, if the HDR would be done right. A new firmware should fix this problem. SAMSUNG, please listen! Worst phone in my life. I waste my money in this phone

New phone, not even half of apps installed and can't last a day. Charged full this morning at 07:00, now it's 11:00 and I'm already down to 70% with little usage. My prediction is that in less then 6 months, when battery capacity falls even more, it will not be usable more then 12-13 hours. And this fast charger they say I have - is not. I had Vernee Apollo (lite version) that could charge from 0%-100% in 35 minutes. I hoped that Samsung had at least that preformance. And BTW, the charger model is the same I had for my Galaxy S6 - 4 years ago!!! The phone is just several days in use, already started having problems with unlocking and freezing. Avoid this model, go for something better for the same price, like Huawei P20.

I got the 8GB version about 2 weeks, very satisfied with its performance. Can get the 8GB version in Hong Kong around USD460. I do not like iOS and the samsung flagship curve display, so A series is very suitable for me. I am not a gamer and take a lot of photos, I chose this model because of the ram size, big battery, real 3 card slots and not curved display. Price is acceptable now. P.S. google apps "datally" is very good for shutting down the background data and battery use.

Well, I haven't used neither of those phones but I can compare these two. I am currently using a J7 2015. Anyway, A9 2018 has a slightly bigger screen and a better SoC (7885 and SD660 is close to each other on performance) for gaming. Also, A9 has a slightly bigger battery. In my opinion, water resistance isn't that necessary. Unless you go swimming with your phone or tend to drop your phone frequently, lack of water resistance shouldn't be a bad thing. As A9 is released nearly.a year after A8+, it will get more updates. On the other hand, A8+ has a better, dual selfie camera setup. Also cheaper. A9 is a new device, so it may have some unknown chronical problems or tend to suffer from specific failures in the future (but this is quite unlikely and even if this kind of a happens, it should be covered by warranty) When it comes to the price, A9 can be found for 3100TRY and A8+ can be found for 2790TRY with official Samsung* warranty on hepsiburada.com (If you live in Turkey. I have no idea if the official warranty is KVK warranty, you need to find it out.) (For SoC comparison) (For GPU and gaming comparison) ** I can't say that these comparisons are %100 correct in real life

Considering its GsmArena review and my first impressions while looking at this device in a Samsung shop, it seems like a good device. Unlike the A7, it has smaller bezels. But before buying the device, you need to make sure if these phones don't capture photos with an awful purple hue. It may be a bit pricey but it is a good device. Its AMOLED screen has an unmatched quality. With its 14nm chipset, 3800mah battery and a power efficient FHD+ screen, it should have a pretty long battery endurance. The main shortcomings are lack of IR blaster and stereo speakers.

I want to replace my LG V20 primarily due to poor battery life now after 2 years. A9 has dedicated micro SD (rarity in current times), good battery life, but lacks IR (I use once in a while only). I have question to actual users of A9 (if you don't own, please don't respond). How is the camera's IQ after any recent updates, does the purple hue still persist? Are the pictures soft still? Does anybody know if Samsung is working on camera improvement? Does Open Camera give better results or is it the same? Is micro SD hot swappable? What is your SOT?

The older Exynos 7885, two big cores A-73 clock speed is 2.2GHz. And the GPU for both of them are same, that is Mali - G71. I don't know whether this chip is an upgrade or downgrade...

A8 (2018) is using a Exynos 7885 processor. But the GPU bundle with this processor - Mali - G71 is just an entry level GPU which came from June 2016 (outdated weak GPU). You can get a new A8 (2018) with 270 Dollar in your country? So good. But in my country, Malaysia here, new A8 (2018) is selling at 425 Dollar. And for the A8s (A9 Pro), it use a IPS display instead of Super AMOLED because SAMSUNG want to cut the cost and maintain the profit margin. Regarding the usability and reliability of Chinese phone, the global smartphones shipment for HUAWEI already give a solid indication to us.

I considered A8 to be the best mid range phone for 2018 - the size, the build, the screen, the battery, plus decent CPU and camera. Samsung MSRPs are ridiculous in the last 2-3 years, but this is how they test the market. Several months later they discount most of the product by 30%-50%. I've got A8 for $270 and it's an excellent value! Even without the Pie (personally don't want Pie anyway). The biggest problem with Samsung is the quality this year. IP rating is gone, A8S got LCD... And how can A7 f1.7 camera be so bad!? (Some say it's a deliberate software limitation that gets improved by installing e.g. Google Camera.) As for Chinese phones, well... When you put a rocket engine into a Great Wall sedan, will it become "Ferrari killer"? No, this thing can only kill yourself. Fortunately, using a phone is not a matter of life or death. But my point is usability and reliability.

Camera quality is baaaad despite the quad camera setup and the price tag. Scene detection really does nothing much compared to auto. Focusing is lethargic. Bokeh shots terrible. Low light shots doesn't feel like your using a 1.7 aperture lens. Video recording? EIS doesn't seem to work even on 720p resolution. Overall, doesn't feel like an upgrade from the camera quality i once had with Oppo A57.

Almost the same dimension as A9 (2018), Y9 (2019) has a bigger 6.5 inch FHD+ screen, 12nm Kirin 710 processor, a bigger 4,000mAh battery but the weight is a bit lighter. Frankly, there is nothing I don't satisfy with Y9 (2019). I am very impressed with the loud speaker performance on the phone and the camera performance when taking photos at night.

I had used A8 plus for 8 month before I bought this model. I can tell u the truth. There's no point to move from A8 plus to A9. If you want a slightly better battery and camera you can make your decision. But A9 is a real monster looking phone.

Why does this phone only have Cat9 while the previous A8+ have Cat11 as for WiFi speed. That's weird to me. I'm thinking of buying one but I have some issues with the design of the phone.. I'd read and watch review from this phone and almost all of them didn't recommended this phone lmao. The only selling point of this phone is the number of lens that make you able to take tele or wide. The image quality itself is meh like typical of samsung non flagship device. If toha want to buy samsung, buy for flagship S series or Note series. Otherwise you will regret it.

i own pocophone and bought a9 to replace for it but believe me in comparison to pocophone the a9 is terrible in everything except camera. battery takes 3 hours to full charge in fast charging mode and games lag in fhd. also the phone is very tall. and ultra wide camera is not that wide like the one on lg phones. i dont recommend to waste your money if you really want samsung go for s9 or wait for s10

I had a Samsung Galaxy S7 before and when it came yo my upgrade my husband got the S9 and i went for the A9 as i do alot of photography....on doing a very in-depth comparison between both i much prefer the quality of the photos on my A9 and it 100% out performs my husbands S9. Sim Free or handset alone price is rather high but on a monthly contract my husband is pay £19 more per month and he now wishes he went with the A9.

The four camera setup is a gimmick. Look at LG V40 - it is doing the same thing with 3 cameras. Samsung's 4 camera phone is nothing but gimmick. There is a video on youtube channel techdays, that guy explained this gimmick nicely. IMO OP 6T or LG g7 are better phones in the same price.

It was never the best to have a 5000mAh battery phone. Most phones these days have 4000mAh and that's about the range. If you really want Samsung to make this a 5000mAh phone. Just go talk to Samsung Korea. I bet you'll have fun having issues translating what they are saying. But I will guarantee, they will not listen to any complaints about the battery size. They'll keep it at max around 4000mAh.

And adding on to that, This has 3 more cameras than the A9 Pro 2016. Each with different sensor sizes. So the battery needs to be reduced in size. They can try to make like the Huawei Mate 20 X with a really huge screen which Samsung still prefers the comfortable hold phone. Larger cameras and sensors, change in USB from Micro to type c, the reposition of the fingerprint scanner, and an increase in the size of the display. They may not put the biggest battery on this phone, but they put a lot more improvements to other areas other than just battery.

1. All the A series do not have the S PEN 2. The flagship devices are not as thick as the A series 3. If you want to squeeze the biggest and greatest in the 1440p region and these are usually in flagships, you need to make the batteries smaller. If they squeeze the S Pen with the 5000mAh battery, I would guarantee the phone will get hot within 5 minutes and it will be the whole Note 7 issue again. As a former S7 Edge user, the S7 Edge had a 3600mAh battery. It's bigger than both the S8+ and S9+. The only issue with it is that it gets hot very easily. The S9+, which is the phone I own now, does not get that warm that easily. This was before the Note 7 explosion issue. So rethink about it, S Pen + big battery = explosion Plus, I already mentioned this. They are still trying to regain their trust in their whole Note 7 battery fiasco. Starting things off with a small battery isn't a big issue. Unless you are a straight up hardcore mobile gamer. Then just get the Razer Phone. I'm not saying Samsung is a bad phone. But if you seriously want a phone with a big battery, just go for other Android devices. Try me

You have to remember, they are still being criticized about the whole Note 7 battery. So, they reduced the A9 2018 from 4000mAh on the regular A9 2016 to 3800mAh for safety reasons. Plus, this isn't even the pro version. If Samsung makes the A9 a pro version, they will probably put it around 4500mAh.

If you are talking this at year 2017, yes, definitely SD660 is a high midrange processor. But in year 2018, simply it is not. It is not better than last year SD835, and this year, there is a SD710, it's successor, which is far more powerful. Ok, for but for real life usage, I would say SD660 is far more than enough for most task, even the lower end SD636, which closely related to SD660 do get the job done without any issue. Of course for the price concern, we all do hope Samsung offer at least SD710 at this price point, but simply it is not. There are even phone that same price as this Samsung A9 2018 offer SD845. So, there definitely no reason for Samsung to offer an outdated processor, unless it is all for cooperate cost saving purpose, which doesn't benefiting consumer.

This is why you spend a couple of days to learn how to use custom roms. I have a two year old phone running android Pie, with the Pixel 3 camera software,and additional software from the S9, One Plus 6, Sony Xperia, Xiaomi, and various Pixel phones all merged into one OS. In addition, I have October 2018 security certificate. When you use Custom Roms your phone stays updated and is much more secure. Whatever, negativity you may have heard about using custom roms is a lie.

Hi my honest and rational opinion about this device is that, those who can afford to pay 599 Euros can spend a little more to afford a Google Pixel 3 device for 860 Euros since, no camera can match Google Pixel 3's. Not bad. Not bad at all. Super AMOLED screen. Large 3800 mAh battery. Powerful SnapDragon 660. 128 GB of Internal storage with 6 or 8 GB RAM! That's awesome for a mid-ranger. 3.5 mm headphone jack and a microSD card slot. Nice gradient colour options too (Lemonde Blue looks sweet and unique). Great Camera combination. Looks very promising with large primary resolution and f1.7 aperture. Although the Depth Sensor is probably just there to make up the numbers. And the Telephoto sensor makes it even more redundant. Selfie camera seems good too. My only gripe is they should have gone for the centrally placed camera alignment, like traditional Samsung design. Also, they should price it right too. Still, if Samsung is willing to take such a radical approach with a mid-ranger, just imagine how the S10 will turn out! Exciting Times!

Why don't you just keep releasing camera, rather than phones, hope so you'll release a phone in coming weeks with 5 to 6 camera front and 8 to 10 camera back of the phone, can't you people stick to one or dual camera with better quality and improved optimised software enhance to bring good pictures taken, such a huge company with lots of people doing R&D can't they come up with good and better ideas?

Man xiaomi have top notch every phone. They grow up from a company where a budget phone was lasting 6-12 months and then died. Many of my customers have up to 200 euros xiaomi phone and even after 2 years it preforms like a brand new.

Man and despite of that even a Samsung just copy a project which was here 7-8 years ago. I think it was Kryocera who made first foldable phone. But if you ask 1000 people on the streets if they know Kryocera maybe 1-5 claims they know this brand. But if you ask 1000 people if they know Samsung or Huawei thats a completely different song. But for me because i know Kryocera brand i can honestly and without any doubt or scars in heart say Samsung just copy. Despite the fact noone knowns Kryocera and their very first foldable phone back in past years.

Everything is good with this device. It's will be a beast with the 4 cameras. Only thing tho, is that if Samsung wants to compete against all the Chinese brands including Vivo, Oppo, Xiaomi, OnePlus, etc... They will need to atleast put the price 400 US$ or less, and Android 8.1,because Note 9 already came out with it,and not only it, but also many other Android devices. Samsung needs to make something that will defeat other brands, because we've already seen Xiaomi with their Sub - Brand Pocophone managing to make a device below 400 US$ with Snapdragon 845.

Well I wasn't taking about that. It seems that whenever Samsung announces something, Huawei pipes up like that one guy who's just there to annoy one guy. Samsung announces that they're making the foldable phone after years of research and development, Huawei days, "Hey, we didn't do any research, but we're making the first one!".
