  • This phone is a absolute waste of hardware. It won't keep a WiFi connection longer than 15 minutes, half of the time, it wont charge, games are laggy as all hell, AND IT FREEZES AT RANDOM TIMES.

  • Check your local carrier's frequencies and check if your phone also has the same frequencies. If it matches, you should be able to use the service with no hiccup, if I didn't match, you need to buy one that supports the frequencies.

  • this phone sucks I have been using it since 2016 and it has not been working right since 2017 and it always dies. It has 8gb of storage and 5 of them already are used when you purchase this phone. I have 23 pictures no other apps than the ones that come with the phone and 1 video and apparently I have filled up all 8gb of storage SMH worst Samsung product I've ever had.

  • As a late owner of this phone i can safely tell you its complete trash especially if you want to "update your apps." it may say 8GB but 3/4th of it is the operating system and bloatware, you wont even be able to install 5 apps without deleting photos, documents and cache. Speaking of photos, the Camera is defiantly not good at all, i mean jeez, it looks like a camera from the early 2000's. Don't bother downloading any games on it either because it will lag like crazy... The screen is also very fragile and only a 720p panel. Honestly this phone is only good with what the main purpose of a phone is... Making Calls...

  • It is totally obsolete, 8g of memory is taken up by the operating system and updates. You will never be able to use it if you allow updates to your apps.

  • This phone is great for first time phone users. it's cheap and it shows it when you have too many apps open ( you can't have that many apps because 4gb are used in system settings and you can't uninstall them), it slows down a bit, and it isn't that good at connecting to wifi. taking good selfies with it is a little tricky, but at a certain distance you can take surprisingly nice photos. Another plus is that the battery lasts a long time. It can last the whole day with moderate use without needing to charge it. Lastly the thing is incredibly durable. I've had it for 3 years and It's been dropped at least 100 times, sometimes down a flight of stairs, it's landed on hard wood, concrete, gravel, mud and the screen doesn't even have a scratch on it. Granted I use a phone case, but it's a super cheap plastic one with rubber on the sides, and the screen protector is a thin plastic as well.

  • I loved my ON5. It was spectacular. It was as durable as a tank, and FINALLY cracked after 4 years of use. Even cracked I was still using it. The only reason I'm not still using it is because I lost it in an Uber.

  • I am using this set too but i have worst experience with this phone i daily make 40 to 50 selfies but picture result is bitter also making of videos of mine but i experienced that extremely dark front camera. when i record any thing then result is my voice like i am inside any box or inside any chamber

  • Samsung on5 pro and on5 share same model no G550FY. The pro model got 7.1.1 update, and if you just flash it on non-pro model it will work just the same. The specs are same between two models except ram. I have flashed it on my cousin's mobile(non-pro) and works flawlessly including volte. Remember after flashing do a factory reset if you want lag-less experience. You can get the firmware in sites like samfirmware.

  • Beware that this Phone will NOT BE ABLE TO handle so many apps, especially if you buy the T- Mobile version because of all the bloatware on it. Also, the T-Mobile version does NOT have a 8MP camera but, it has a 5mp camera . It's bad for gaming aswell due to the fact it only recognizes two finger inputs MAX which becomes a massive issue in high budget video games.

  • Please dont buy!!! I have had On5 for 1 year now, absolutely no space even though I have SD card, nothing can be saved on it. Internal memory fills it and I have to download photos every few days and delete everything except minimal apps. Another thing I absolutely HATE about this phone is its Text input. Absolutely not user friendly!! The sensitivity is far off and it is not language intuitive.   • I am on my 2nd Samsung Galaxy 5 in 2 years. Had my 1st one 13 months, and one day, without warning, it just froze and completely died. My husband & I took it to the AT&T store and told them what happened. They saw for themselves it was unresponsive-wouldn't even charge. They took it apart to examine it. Were very surprised that the inside looked so well, considering it was nothing but a paperweight by this time. To me, that makes it glaringly obvious that it is a defective phone. But was AT&T willing to stand behind a product I had bought in good faith? Of course not! I had insurance, so I had to pay a $100 deductible, and they sent me a replacement phone-exact same kind. Have had it 16 months, now it is going bonkers. Won't hold a charge, most of my apps won't come up, it drops calls, the list goes on. But what perplexes/steams me is that I was penalized. I should NOT have had to pay a deductible on a defective phone! It would be different had I been abusing it, throwing it around, or dropping it in the toilet. Anyway, was just wondering if anyone else had experienced this injustice. Thankfully my upgrade is coming up. I better not be cheated again!

  • To technical team. smart phone need at least 2gp ram and 16/32gp enternal storage because inbuild apps loaded and occupied 90% of the storage. There is no chance for other apps and files to store. The external storage system is very difficult to manage and often failed miserably. Can't transfer files. Too much andriod virus attack and outdated android advertisements. Ur team may upgrade/corrected it for users.

  • Go to Settings, scroll down o and select Applications. Then select Application Manager. This in turn will bring up a list of your Apps. You then select an App. and a list of options will come up, select the fist one it should be labeled Storage. The next page will then ask if you want to change the storage type, if you select Change you can transfer all data for an App, to your exterior storage aka your external memory card.

  • I bought this phone because I was looking for a phone with a long battery life the battery does last more than 24 hours with normal use. but what I was not told when I bought the phone is it has 8 gig of storage for apps ect. but the preloaded apps use up 7.7 gig of that space. so if you do not plan to take many pics, add your own apps or download anything then I guess it would be ok but do yourself a favor and go for the 16 gig not the 8 its a waste of money in my opinion. I did buy additional storage but nothing seems to be added to it the phone keeps saying no storage available.

  • I hope you are enjoying the rapidly dwindling space on your On5! Speaking as an owner of the Samsung On5, I have to agree with those who state that the phone is (in your terms) "crap". I have had mine for approximately 9 months, and have already run out of "Internal Memory. I have deleted the VERY few apps I had installed, and I didn't gain back one iota of internal memory. I purchased a 128 Gigabyte microSD card (you can only install it as "External Memory"), transferred all of the apps that would move, therefore increasing my Internal Memory by less than 1 Gigabyte, and now have a whopping 0.25 Gigabytes of internal memory left. I could not even update Android 6.0 (even if my carrier would allow the O. S. to be updated). My best advice is like so many others who have been cheated by Samsung on this purchase. Go out and buy another phone with at least 32 Gigabytes of internal storage, and make sure that the manufacturer will allow you to use the microSD card memory as Internal memory.

  • STORAGE: an SD card is an absolute requirement. I have a 64GB card. Pictures and videos are stored on the card. You will need to move apps to the SD card or you will run out of storage. Ignore the other reviews that say the phone is crap because there is no storage. You can move most apps that didn't come with the phone to the SD card. Also, disable apps you're not using and can't delete, like Google Books, etc. That frees up even more space. The annoying thing is that when an app gets updated, the update is installed on the internal storage and will need to be moved to SD storage again. AFAIK, this is an Android limitation, not Samsung. For that reason, I have disabled automatic updates and update manually infrequently. One more point: Android has an option to use the SD card as internal storage. This does not seem to be supported on this phone. Speed: faster than the previous model, the Galaxy Core Prime. The extra half-gig of RAM really helps the phone be able to handle switching between apps without having to spool off to storage. FM Radio: supported by T-Mobile. Works fine No NFC, so forget tap-and-pay. The camera is average, good clarity but forget low-level light pix, like taking a picture of a band at a concert. Anything well lit in the background will be washed out. (Referring to 5MP camera on the T-Mobile model). Bluetooth works really well, my bluetooth headphones stay connected well beyond their claimed range. OVERALL RATING: an absolute steal for the price. This thing is 80% as good as a full-price smartphone for 10% of the price.

  • This phone is horrible because you don't have room for apps because it's always running out of storage. I repeatedly have to uninstall Messenger to make room for updates then reinstall Messenger. It will let me change Facebook & Messenger to external storage but it doesn't help much. I have found all the places to change it to SD card storage but hardly anything goes into the SD card.

I have a Samsung galaxy on 5 which was bought from metro pcs in USA and I think it's a T mobile nationwide that was using on it before So my uncle brought it to Nigeria so I inserted my Airtel network SIM card here in Nigeria inside it but it was sim lock So I tried to unlock it and I was ask for my IME number so after for some days it was unlock So anytime I put it at 3G it off the network but if I put it at 2G it works but you know how 2G network browsing is very slow So what am trying to say is that 3G and 4G does not work on the phone with all Nigeria network provider It only 2G that works with it It shows E on top when browsing and sometime G i have to sleep and wake up before a site open... what i also want to know is that is Samsung Galaxy on 5 a 2G or 3G or 4G phone?   • I absolutely agree. Like 1,000,000% camera quality is awful. It makes everything look darker than what it seems. I always have to delete stuff off this phone to add other apps to it. People should not buy this phone, unless you only use phones to call, and doesn't download stuff and take pictures.

  • Basically it is a piece of problematic junk. With tech support answer to everything is "Factory Reset". Which 98% does not solve issue but loss of data. And no third party apps by the way. So cant blame those. No downloaded apps besides stuff that came with phone. And its the same issue with each Samsung prodyluct, each time with promise "Oh this one is better and no issues" three times wasted money on Samsung products but no more. Volume randomly go all over the place with headphones plugged in. Sometimes just randomly go low and then spam the ringtone volume bar. Other times it go full blast. The headphones? Ah, first thought, but all range os set of headphones same issue. But same headphones have no such issue on non samsung products. Freeze ups galore, dropped calls, mobile netaork and wifi randomly cutting on and off. Each update make the phone go nuts unusuable until yet another factory reset (the only issue factory reset fix...until the next update). Slow chaging battey. Oh yeah batteries get slow but after three months? With stock charger? Then sometimes the phones does not charge at all. Tech support solution? Yup ya guessed it. Factory reset and not once solved the issue. Yet same charger charges other phones up some much older with much older batteries with no issues and swiftly. Then call quality sucks. Even traded with another that had LG and same carrier as me, no issue and can actually hear phone convo clearly. And this is for all three samsung phones owned. And the list goes on. Do not buy. And Samsung is not going to fool me again. Once, ok. Twice, probably shouldnt happen twice. Three times, I would be a fool to do it again. They seem to have no interest in improving their products and probably still will make money off of selling junk, but it will not be any of mine ever again.

The specs are better on the On5... so I assumed it was a logical choice. Both phones are from Tmobile... and come bundled with the same bloatware software... but the On5 no longer allows you to uninstall these bloatware apps completely the way you could with the Grand Prime. The phone is garbage... slow... laggy right out of box... and u have a very small amount of storage space to work with. Keyboard lags during fast input... applications with fps run at a fraction of the speed of the grand prime. The Grand Prime weighs more... and thats probably because it is using real working technology instead of plastic economy garbage inside of the On5

Comes bloated as is usual, and you can turn off whatever you want, and the available space is still pitiful. Sound quality is good, when it's not dropping your calls. Full service? Yep. Wifi call capable? Sure. If I want to look at a large screen, I'll use my laptop or tablet. Avoid at all costs. If you get it as a prepaid bc it's cheap and gets you by, that's different.   • I got this phone absolutely free from Net10. I was suspicious as there is no such thing as free, this wasn't any different. It is unusable. It has 8gb of on board memory and almost every kb is used with Samsung bloat wear. You cannot remove it. There is an option to add an sd card, however this added sd card cannot be formatted as internal memory. This option is removed from the version of Marshmellow. Also none of the apps can be moved to the SD card. So even as a free device it is worthless. It is Net10s attempt to get a user like me, one that has brought there own phone into their restrictive set of rules. Also removed is the ability to share a wifi hot spot. In conclusion do not get this phone even if offered for free. Huge let down, but FREE? I should have known better.

  • The galAxy on5 is a great phone. The only down side is the storage capacity which is only 8gb but u can also add a micro sd card which gives u extra memory for pretty much everything except apps. Songs, videos and stuff like that can be downloaded into sd card. The screen resolution is great for movies and shows. Screen is fairly large as well making the phone great for tv entertainment. Compared to my iPhone 5 that I was using for some time. But I have to say I like the galaxy on5 much better. And I was never an android person. But the phone also feels great in your hand and not for not for nothing but it's a damn sexy looking phone. Highly recommend this but especiAlly for what you get for your money. Defidently the best low end smartphone money can buy. Usually around 125$ so worth it. As much as ppl say it's a basic phone it's really not.   • If rooted, it can be removed and phone is very capable. Pic quality good not "Superior"..but fine for everyday use. Nice screen size and has SD card slot for adding storage. Removable battery is nice feature so you can just swap a charged battery just like that. No looking for a McDonald's or somewhere to hurry up and plug your phone to charge. Not so long ago this On5 phone would have sold for around the same price and Apples' iPhone and Samsung Galaxy flagship S7. If you can get one for 25 bucks it's worth it. It's good for a second phone and in an emergency if your main one breaks or you need one in a flash. Or if you're in a situation where you need a phone but don't wanna risk losing or breaking your new Galaxy...like White water rafting. ..lol...or mountain climbing.

I contacted T-mobile where I bought and they did not cover cosmetic warranty and I had to contact Samsung. When I contacted Samsung customer support, I explained the cracked issue due to the thin cover design and a battery cover replacement. The representative asked the phone IMEI number and after a minute, he told me the phone warranty is voided due to the crack. The phone function normally without any drop, the only problem is caused by the cracks on small hollow for back cover opening. OK, fine. I made a return on all Samsung products I bought and never be their customer again even I will buy a 4K TV next month.

  • The SIM card size you have on here is wrong. This phone uses a nanoSIM and not a microSIM. This is frustrating since I referenced this when I bought a different phone which actually has a microSIM and was confused when they didn't match up.

  • The t-mobile on5 does not have dual sim capability and it does not take a micro-sim card. It takes a nano-sim card. Not too impressed with the internal storage setup. I have a micro-sim card and it will absolutely not go into the slot. I have to punch it out to get it to the nano form so it will fit. I'm not too happy about this because everything I have read says it is a Micro-sim card. I now need to buy an adapter so I can keep my old phone as a backup. Going to have to root it so I can have space and push apps to the SD card. Some apps can be moved but not all of them. I'm not even talking about the "system" apps. I'm talking google play apps.   • I have owned this phone for over three months. I find it to be a star performer for a budget phone except in one category, the camera. I am very disappointed with the camera. I got the phone for free on Metro PCS, so what do I expect. Other than that the phone is great! The 1.3 Ghz Processor and 1.5 GB of RAM do keep the phone from lagging. I find the On5 to be very responsive even with multiple apps running. The battery lasts me all day with moderate usage. I am a ham radio operator and NWS weather spotter and the apps I have on the phone work well. The 720 X 1280 screen is crisp for its class. Colors are vibrant and even my videos are clear and vibrant. I can tell that I do not have an AMOLED screen though. The audio in the earpiece is excellent and I like the "extra" volume setting for when I am outdoors. The speaker phone is good too, loud and clear. Overall I recommend this phone if you are on a budget and intend to go with T-Mobile or Metro PCS.

  • In fact we have Galaxy J5 which has 1.5GB RAM as well . It was on Lollipop and after the update to Marshmallow , i cant see any difference for the free RAM - about 650-700MB . On Marshmallow , there are two options for microSD :internal storage and portable storage . I read the phone chooses where to store the application on its own when the option internal storage is chosen . I cant tell from my experience cuz havent got microSD yet

  • The first one I got just bit the dust for no reason within 10 days of my owning it. I didn't do anything to it, it just stopped turning on. So they gave me another one and it constantly freezes up and reboots itself for no apparent reason. I was happy with my lower end Galaxy I had a couple of years ago but this phone sucks. I've had plenty of plain old crappy cell phones and none of them was this unreliable. And now that I bought it there's no returning it and just getting a different phone. Don't buy one of these worthless pieces of junk.

  • Samsung has no plans for On5 yet. It seems like they got the milestone they wanted to achieve. SO i dont expect anything from samsung, Because soon I'll move to Pixel series from google. I love stock rather than patch rom like samsung do. Stock is lite and fast than any other rom even custom rom can't stand against it.

  • I heart Samsung. Changed carriers because of their Samsung options. Broke down & picked up this On5 after SIII battery wouldn't survive an 8 hr work day without being turned off & charging in between breaks & lunch. Oh and the shattered screen no one would fix. Never had any problems with internal storage being too full to dl an app, in fact my sd card was barely used. Now I spend more time cleaning the internal to add a new app & most of the time I don't even have enough memory to add it & move it to the sd card. I have moved everything I can. Disabled & uninstalled updates on apps I don't need or use. Still only have less than 800kbps available. I have thought about rooting, but have only had this phone for 2 weeks & don't want to void warranty. Any ideas?

  • bought mine from metro as well...its simply a filed down version of a galaxy grand prime..but in comparison metro seems to be pretty much aimed at grade school kids..everything is so utterly hokey with them. This phone is not the same as the demo in the store. I still have yet to find the button that brings up the video camera that supposedly records hd video..i pulled it out of my pocket once and it was on (an issue that i was able to prevent with a setting on my GS2 & galaxy grand prime)so i know the video cam is there..but strangely not on the camera app...also...my first month with metro was smooth and peaceful..but immediately after i paid my second payment the metro pcs app overrides my home page settings and also keeps sending people on my contacts list texts and advertisements using my name to advertise some feature or whatever that i didnt voluntarily use. I suggest if one wants to buy an ON5 they should find one online if the specs and features that samsung lists are of any importance to you..cuz the metro version is NOT even close..by the way..i put my screen against a resolution informer..the max on this metro version was in the range of 480p and never above..so if you dont mind being lied to go buy this hollow turd from metro..you wont be glad you did...deficiencies for the masses...all hail sub par hype and inferior merchandise! bleph!!✘

I do most of my mobile work on a tablet, so the phone really just needs to work for tethering, making calls, and having dome decent functionality on its own. Unfortunately, the On5 fails completely. 8Gb internal memory is pretty poor as it is, but for some insane reason, not only have Samsung decided to disable SD card adoption, they've also ensured the process of moving apps to the SD card - the handul of apps that *can* be moved, that is - is painfully slow and cumbersome. Combine this with the massive bloatware that comes as standard, and this is a phone I can't wait to get rid of.

  • The alarms you can set them to repeat whatever days you want. You can totally change the background on the lock screen. There is an airplane mode ( open the drop down menu and scroll to the right ) and as for the computer connectivity, I have Windows and it works fine without the utility

  • This turned out to be a cut down version of other Galaxy phones. You just "can't do" a number of the normal things without rooting the phone. And because of the cut down, it's a little clunky to do the rest of the stuff. e.g. Like most Androids, I would expect to be able to attach it to my mac as a disk drive and just go to town. Nope. Gotta use the Samsung utility. I would expect to be able to set my lock screen picture. Nope. Gotta use one of their themes. [Boy do those suck.] The built-in text messaging app has a horrible keyboard, with no quick substitutes. There is NO airplane mode app/widget. For a traveler, that sucks. Even the clock / weather app is a one-off. I want to set an alarm and turn it on/off without creating it each week.

Chinese version has Google PLay and screen easily convertible to English, Good camera, Good battery 3 days perhaps not as good as iphone. Has a an easy to use pull down settings menu. IF so... get an SD card, move the apps and pics to store to that...and let me know if you still think it's crap. I'm considering buying one, but your review leaves no details and doesn't sound like you are utilizing the SD card slot to not overload your device.   • This phone is a disaster to use. It seems that low end hardware still doesn't get alone with android. This phone lags badly, very bad touchscreen response , slow command and application opening and horrible text auto correction software comparing to expensive Samsung phones. Note 4 and up are almost perfect phones , but low end Samsung is still horrible.

Anything I type or press new windows popup with ad or auto download of application. Later I download kaspersky and it identified most of the pre installed software as adware/malware/spyware.   • Even with comments others might share, make sure you go into a T-mobile store to do a visual and handheld comparison. I was in the store today, and was planning on the Grand Prime that I'm already familiar with, but then got to comparing the Galaxy J7 and the Galaxy On5 as well. The On5 is the cheapest. Galaxy J7 was $110 dollars more than that one. It's also a bit bigger, but thinner, and is supposed to have faster processing, a better camera, and longer battery life. The On5 and Grand Prime are the same size. The Grand Prime was $60 cheaper than the J7. No Otter box for any of these yet. :-( We've been pleased with the Grand Prime (my spouse has had one for several months, but with my head spinning with these new options, one cheaper and one more expensive, I went home to compare details and web reviews, both professional blogs' and users'. I still haven't decided if I want to spend that much more, as if I hadn't heard about it I would've been satisfied with the Grand Prime... or if the even cheaper model is good enough for my needs anyway... Good luck.

  • I have the On5 for a week now and I have to say that it is a very good budget phone. I went with Metro PCS on a switch deal and got the On5 for FREE! The audio in the earpiece and the speakerphone is superb. I like the "extra volume" feature especially in outdoor settings. The HD display is pretty good for a TFT display. The responsiveness of the touch screen is laggy sometimes. But it is not an AMOLED display, so it is good enough. The battery lasts longer than I expected. I still have about 80% at days end with light to moderate usage. The phone did freeze on me once so far, I will continue to monitor. The headphone audio with the supplied music effects is nice sounding with my music or on I-Heart. The camera is a bit better than previous phones with a 5 MP Main and 2 MP front selfie, I need to play with the camera some more. Overall, I am pleased with the phone. I elected to get a screen protector and a hard case which I recommend since the On5 does not have Gorilla Glass. There is no notification LED, but there is a camera flash and vibrate feature for notifications. I hope this helps you out. Thank you.

Well, they share the exact same Model No, ROM & baseband between models. That same thing is gonna happen to On5 & On5 Pro. The renaming of On5 to Pro on Marshmallow was a simple scripting check error that will be rectified on the future updates. On5 & On5 Pro have exact same SOC, Modem & hardware, so effectively same handset, with different RAM & Storage.

  • There is no notification LED on the front face. You can however enable flash notifications that uses your camera flash in a similar fashion. You will find this setting in the Accessibility Menu.

  • No. Unless you want to play it without the camera. This phone does not have a gyroscope nor a compass. The LG K7 or iPhone 5 or higher are some of the phones that do have all the requirements to play the game. Without the gyro and compass, you cannot catch a pokemon in AR camera mode (no pics of diglets in the toilet, or jinks in your bedroom late at night, etc. etc.).

ANYway I don't have any complaints about the sound quality or having a phone conversation. Ane the price was right! Anyway I had TOO many apps on my old phone. Had to charge it A LOT.   • Maybe your initial update was not 100% successful, thats why u r facing issues with new OTA or themes. Try Odin & firmware download. For me, after I reset the device after updating to marshmallow, device name changed to On5 Pro. Thats the name On5 is getting for the 2016 version. launched couple of hours ago @ 9100/-

  • Service centre & call centre guys are not always updated with the latest knowledge. From my experience, I can say that Samsung is definitely preparing for OTA update. But this firmware being a new OS/Baseband/Software combo, is likely to be a HUUUGE OTA (approx 700 MB). OTAs are always made available according to the serial numbers & NOT as per baseband. As older baseband/firmware users will be either offered the entire 1.1 GB file or staggered/staged firmware updates.

  • This is not best phone it is a very bad phone because it is in many times HEATING problem after charging & talking so it phone is not good.

  • No such issue observed. Maybe you need to pull out battery & rest the set for 5 min to get rid of static electricity. Also, be sure to use the specified charger, as this symptom is common with duplicate/different brand chargers.

  • If ur handset reached 43C after just 1 min, either your hands were on fire or you need a better AC :)

  • after the last update of 208mb there is some touch issues... while phone is on charge and i use keyboard and i typ alphabet (k) it dsn repond smtimes and even keyboard and screen get freeze smtyms... is any1 facing such issue aftr latest update of 208mb
