  • just bought it,very nice.but i dont know why in all samsung mobiles the charger ,starts getting problamatic after some time,u need to adjust the cable when either the connection is loose, and when it stops charging. this i see in many mobiles ..

  • Copy the instructions in the post below HOW TO PUT YOUR OWN RINGTONES ON THIS PHONE!!! This worked perfectly for me. Choose to split the file, so you can make it smaller you can listen to it before you convert. I then saved the acc file to the computer and downloaded to an old phone i had usb for then bluetoothed it over to my s401i.

  • Hey can someone tell me how to get a mobile phone with camera, bluetooth and mp3player under this price: 130

  • anyone know how to store sms messages on the phone memory rather than sim card memory (which is very low at 40 messages)

  • hi could you tell me if this phone comes with the USB cable and software i am hopefully buying it if it has would like to know asap. cheers megan x x

  • AT LAST !!! How to get the MP3 ringtones You need to shorten the MP3 track (www.nch.com.au/wavepad) (this is free) youll need a bit of trial & error with this but you can get any part of the rack you like. Then just save as an AAC file and Bluetooth the file to your phone (via a USB Bluetooth dongle) :o)

  • help can jason tell me how u got mp3s on to ur s401i fone plz thanks john

  • does anybody know how mute or change the tone that plays every time sending a text message? or checking the balance? this tune seems to come on everytime and i can't work out how to delete it..?!

  • HOW TO PUT YOUR OWN RINGTONES ON THIS PHONE!!! This is exactly what I did and it worked: 1. Have a 20 second mp3 file (I won't go into how you cut an mp3 file down to 20 secs, there are a loads of programs available for this) 2. Go to www.media-convert.com (free) 3. Select the mp3 from your pc and convert from mp3 to aac (SAVE TO PC) 4. I used a bluetooth usb dongle to transfer the file into my music folder 5. The bluetooth software i used is Bluesoleil, (google it) 6. Set it as a ringtone from the music folder I couldn't get it to load into my phone by emailing to the phone or using pc studio II. I also couldn't save the file using the wap/upload feature on media-convert.com I hope this helps some of you I spent way to much time trying to figure this out. Let me know if you have any q's I'll keep an eye out on this page.

  • has anyone used the dBpoweramp converter to try and get mp3s to work as ringtones? i tried to use it but it didn't seem to do much.

  • Can anyone help me with this please? I have bought a new phone and when I close my phone I couldn't see anything on the screen. At least I would expect to see time. Can you please help how I can use the setting?

  • If someone that has created an aac file that is supported (and works) by this phone, could post the file in the public domain to allow others to try it and analyse it to see what the criteria/format is...??

  • I have tried everything everything on the web to get aac ringtones working on this (using file conversion software, different size files etc). Can someone pls tell us how to get our own ringtones? MIDI does work. But MIDI is boring!

  • Dermot if you read this can you please email me with info on how to have mp3's as ringtones tried to email you but wouldn't go through or if anyone else knows can they let me know. Would be incredibly grateful. Cheers mate xx

  • my cousin bought this mob.but it din't work by using bluetooth to send me a pic on my lg chocolate phone.

  • Ive noticed a lot of complaints about MP3 ring tones (or lack of them). Can anyone give me idiot proof instructions on how to set them up. :o)

  • YES YES i am soooooo happy i found a way to av a mp3 as a ringtone il anser anybody hu wants 2 no how to work it

  • yes i agree i couldnt get any ringtones on or download(apart from what was already there)but i figured it out and now i got my gavs on their i still cant get the mp3 to work..need to work on that one.

  • Everytime i try 2 convert it it just comes up as mpeg4 nd wen it goes 2 my phone it just goes 2 other files. HELP ME PLEASEEE

  • If I were you I wouldn`t get this phone. I bought it a few weeks ago and it doesn`t even work properly ! You can`t have any other ringtones besides the defult ones which are already on the phone, If something is being sent by Imode you will not get all of it ( Eg: a ring tone ! You will only get 1/4 of it ) The only thing that is good about it is that its nice and its light but thats about it !

  • i think this phone is pony, basic, boring and you can't get any other ringtones, and the original ringtones are pants!

  • I am not sure if I am really dense or if it is quite difficult but I am unsure how I convert MP3's to ringtones. I read what the intelligent person wrote about having to download something but I honestly haven't got a clue!! If someone could help me i'd really appreciate it. Thanks Gem

  • does ny1 kno if i can get a cable 4 sending files from my pc to d fone??

  • does anyone else have problems with receiving long text msgs on this phone? i never get whole texts, the end is normally cut off unless they are short and i was wondering whether to take it back.

  • Download the basic AAC encoder from dBpoweramp NOT the M4A one (this is Apples version of AAV, you need just the basic one) After that convert any MP3 you want to AAC and you can set this as a ringtone on the S401i

  • YOU CAN HAVE AN MP3 AS A RINGTONE. Sorry for the excess caps but some people are giving this phone a hard time about this feature. To have an mp3 as a ringtone you need to convert your MP3 to AAC format. vdBpoweramp is prefect at doing this, just make sure you download the AAC encoder, also found on the dBpoweramp web site. Easy.

  • To be honest, if you don't read the spec of the phone before you buy it you shouldn't moan about the memory size. For the price, this phone is well designed and easy to use. Good enough for me.

  • if u want a fone which is exceptionally fast and smart this the fone for u!!!! the pin for bluetooth is 0000

  • sold mine bought a samsung e370....brilliant fone..an u can use mp3s as ringtones...no messin about

  • i tink dis fone is an excellent model it is sleekand modern !!!!! plz reply how do u set mp3s as ringtones!! everything is fine apart frm dat

  • you have to change it on media player on a computer then put it on the phone

  • there isnt a media player on this phone.only a music player an u cant do it on there

  • You can have your own songs as ringtones. You need to change them to AAC files which can be done on media player or by downloading a converting program. These can then be set as ringtones.

  • New phone bought to replace LG5400 that had a deceased powercell( cant get replacement!! boo hoo) MP3 files are just too large to set as ringtones on this phone, but what would you expect from a mid priced phone. cant fault it. way round getting your old ring tones(polyphonic) onto the new is send them from your old using a mms and then extract the sound on your new. Easy.

  • "decent" and "ringtone" don't belong in the same sentence. i'd say that bluetooth or i-mode are the only options. i bluetoothed an mp3 once and it wouldnt play due to some encoding error. hello, mp3?

  • Anybody know how 2 get decent ringtones on this thing?

  • - 25 MB shared memory .... an on my phone is 13.312 Mb Maximum shared memory...How come?

  • Can't use mp3's as ringtones, well how about this I downloaded a Polyphonic ring tone only to find out (you've guessed it) it isn't compatable with the phone!!!!!

  • @Mad: Go on then, tell me exactly how to set an mp3 as a ringtone. I bet I can't on my phone and suspect it's the way that O2 have screwed about with it. There are absolutely zero ways of selecting an mp3 as a ringtone.

  • i have one of this..and you can set an mp3 as a ringtone..my ringtone is an mp3..:) why are you saying that you can`t..if you can`t that means you don`t now how to use a phone...:) i think is a good phone is not expensive ..is light..and pretty..

  • What is the point of an mp3 player on this phone? I see no practical use for it at all. Mine is an upgrade on O2. The phone has no headphone jack, only a mini-usb jack. The box comes with no headphones or even a handsfree earpiece. And O2 don't sell them. I've not seen any mini-usb headphones on sale in the high street. And www.samsungmobile.com doesn't even list my phone on their site, so I can't get any service for the product at all as I can't choose my model. So it seems the only way to hear them is on the speakerphone. Which won't be when I'm walking around town, but maybe at home when I have my hifi or computer to listen to them on (doh). I managed to fill up the generous 13Mb memory with a huge FOUR mp3s. One of them it wont play at all (yes I checked the encoding etc). The only way to get them on the phone is bluetooth (no probs there) as you don't get a cable with the phone. I'm guessing that the Samsung PC Suite or whatever it's called would have one. But then it probably won't work on a mac as there is no mention of mac anywhere on their site, either for it or not, so my guess is 'not'. As the mp3s are "music" and not "sounds" I can't apply them to a favourites folder or as any type of ringtone - I wanted one of them as my morning alarm call. And there is nowhere to plug in extra memory, so you're lumbered with the useless 13Mb on board. The O2 upgrade came with a "512Mb memory stick" maybe I had misread that as "card". Silly me. Apart from this stupid and pointless application (can't even delete it from the phone & use the memory for more worthwhile stuff like photos or whatnot), I like the tactile feedback, menu layout and overall operation of the phone. It is a bit 'small' so my hands/thumbs get tired quickly when texting.

  • you can record longer video what you do is go to the menu, click camera, click record video, click options, click setting and changed the video size from 176X144 to 128X96 now the samung s401i can record videos longer.

  • how the bloody hell do you put tunes on it.ive got the bluetooth dongle.but cant doo it.when i did it only held 3 songs.surely this cant be it

  • can u record longer videos

  • this phone sucks im selling mine on ebay at least ill get a beer out of it whats the point of having a mp3 phone but cant set as a ringtone its impossible ive checked it will never happen so stop asking how to set mp3 as ringtone you cant never ever

  • Surely there is no way how to set mp3 as a ringtone?

  • cant seem to get reduce the size of the large numeral font when dialing a number.HELP!

  • is the phone good?

  • i have one of this...and is very light..but is not a very smart phone..but..is nice..is not expensive..has a low price..

  • The 02 catalogue says this phone supports realtones... Then how come people here are claiming mp3s cannot be set as a ringtone? Or are realtones seen as just shorter tones that are not mp3s at all?

  • is the camera on this better than the samsung s400i

  • wats MIDI andVGA. but can i record songs and save them as my ring tone can i have a different screen saver on the outside towards d insid?

  • how much? can i record and put them as a ringtone? can i take pictures and put them as a screen saver? is there a internet? can i put pictures on the front screen different to the screen inside the phone?

  • Unfortunately, you cannot set MP3s as ringtones on this phone.

  • Who knows how to set mp3 file as ringtones?

  • so is the camera pretty bad but ok for that amount of mp's ???????

  • very good phone good size it would be better if it had 3G

  • hey just wondering how do you set midi sounds as ringtones?

  • The battery life seemed fine to me.

  • The ringtones that it comes with are a bit pants if you ask me, but that is subject to personal view. You can use MIDI sounds as ringtones, lots of which you can find on the internet. The camera is VGA but pretty good. The video is one of those that seems to make up its own mind about when to stop. Sometimes you will get 2 minutes out of it, sometimes 20 seconds.

  • hi. I know you cant set your songs as ringtones.....but are there any good ringtones already on it.......how good is the battery..........how good is the camera.........and if there is video how long can you record for in one video????

  • No, you cannot set MP3s as ringtones on this phone - which is a bummer. The Samsung X680 is a very similar model, with near identical specifications - and it DOES allow MP3 ringtones. The X680 also has more memory, and it is available on Vodafone (still the best network in my opinion).

  • im really annoyed i luv this phne so much it is gorjus nd everythings gr8 but its doin my nut in that u can listen ta mp3's but cant set them as ringtones wot is that all about. my friend sed there is a websyt u cn go 2 4 ones that do work but i cant find it please help if u can xXx

  • When the phone is closed, press the up/down button on the left side for about 1 second. The front display will then light up for about 5 seconds, so you can view the time.

  • I have just got this phone as a free upgrade on the O2 network and am finding it ok, though there are a couple of problems. Like one of the other reviewers, I find the camera shutter sounds very annoying, but I can live with that. what I do find annoying is that the external display does not remain visible for any length of time. there is little point in setting it to show a clock, if most of the time you can't see it! Does anyone know how to get it to show a display for a useful time, or even to remain on all the time. My daughter has another, older flip-phone Samsung model and the external dispaly on that one is more controllable.

  • Just got this phone from O2 on thursady, now it's friday and it's going back to them. The phone it's self is quite nice, light, not too small, clearly built well, screen resolution is a bit poor but other than than, a nice object to have in my pocket. My main frustrations with this phone are with the software, and there are alot of them. 1) There's a screen on the outside. All it's usefull for is takin photo's of yourself, it'd be nice if it showed the time too. 2) it's an MP3 player, it can play MP3's. However, it refused to let me set one as: a ringtone, a message tone or my alarm tone. But it did happily play them. Thats just pathetic in my opinion. 3) ringtone, you get 3 options: play tone, vibrate, vibrate then play tone. Seemingly unable to do both at the same time. 4) the calender, i don't write things down in a diary because i can remember most of my schedule just by seeing a monthly calender view. But this one made my eye's hurt. The week numbers are blue, on a blue back ground. All the dates are written so they completly fill the boxes. Its not easy to read at all. 5) Bluetooth, the hardware for this was fine and easy to use, once i found the setting where i least expected them to be, hidden away in the bowls of the phone setup options. Not very convienient. And then, to my suprise, when transfering files across i couldn't put them where i wanted them to be. could only put them in a few of the dozen folders on there. 6) Imodes, not really a fan of the internet on a phone. I only use it for cheating in the pub quiz but atleast on my phone it was easy to turn off. On this i kept turning it on accidentally as the button for "BACK" magically turns into it when you hit the main screen. 7) the icons at the top are strange, i thought that the icon for "Silent but vibrating" mode looked alot more like a plane hitting the ocean that a crossed out speaker above some wiggle lines i assume mean vibrate. The alarm icon looks like a golden turd. I wouldn't use this phone again unless i really had to. The only 2 nice features of it was that you could set the colour of the dialed number to any colour in the rainbow, or if you couldn't chose, all of them. And that you could set a recurring alarm for weekdays only. Shame all the ringtones on it are annoying as hell. But atleast it'll get you out of bed. Hope this is of use.

  • I thought this would be the phone of my dreams. Small, sleek and all the functions I wanted. However, there seem to be BIG problems with the user friendliness of the software, it seems to conflict with the O2 network! And this phone is ONLY available on O2! I am often getting garbled error messages and random beeps for no apparent reason. Also, you cannot send MMS messages. You can only send pictures, etc by "i-mms" which is part of the O2 "i-mode" service - but this is a subscription service that insists you have an O2 email address to use in conjunction with your phone. I can't be doing with all that! In addition, I have just found out that O2 do not provide a delivery report service for text messages, so enabling that function is useless. Regarding the actual phone itself, only a few minor quibbles... The phone camera does not let you turn the shutter sound off, even in silent mode. I am not planning on taking secret photos of girls in changing rooms or anything, but I think that phone camera shutter sounds are pants. It is the same with the video camera - an annoying jolly bleep announces to everyone around you that you are recording. The selection of default ringtones are also pretty crummy, there is not one that an average human would enjoy hearing. However, the main problem is that O2 do not seem to have taken the time to sort out the software so it works properly with their network. I am really blue about all this, and I am going to sell my phone on because it is irritating me so much. Call me a fuss pot, but I like things to work in a fluid way with no mystery of what may be happening. I would be interested to hear if anyone else who has purchased this phone is similarly disheartened. I feel your pain, brothers and sisters. But some day, the phone of our dreams will manifest in reality. Keep the faith :) :) :)

  • i think the phone is g8 good memory and its just the right size for me

  • Got mine from o2 from boxbreak.com great phone good camera. Quite cheap realy for what you get...

  • A good mid range phone with a camera and bluetooth, this will shift units. People slag the Samsung flips but they certainly move.

  • Really like this one good camera
