this is the first phone i have owned. i love it and wish it was still alive. :( i love the novelty large speaker at the back. (it can give u an earful when a call comes in) awesome but dont sit on the joystick. joystick is also hard to use with fat fingers (i dont have so is ok for me :D)

I purchased this phone in sri lanka from Abans and the price was more than the outside market.From the day i bought this phone there was problems signal goes out during a call and the call gets cut,joystick does not work,dust goes into the screen,other party cannot hear your voice clearly.this unit was changed during the warrenty but same problem with the new one too.Was told Abans Sells Duplicate phones so users be carefull when buying goods from Abans Sri Lanka.

Poor Battery Life, if offen having call in morning, i am sure the battery will going to be zero soon in the afternoon. I had been using this J200 around two years, is good for normal user, but NOT GOOD in LONG PERIOD CALL, plus sometimes the LCD suddenly goes blank without any reason. Last few weeks, this handphone had gone blank FOREVER~~!! What can i do for this handphone? Just for received call... ... , cheap model from SE. if want better phone, i think better to get mid-range to high-end model SE handphone.

Talk about this phone...OH MY GOD...the battery and the joystick very very very very weak.When the battery life is full charge,after send ONE message,the battery life only got ONE left...so u have to keep busy charging it...very waste time...if u want to buy this phone...i don't think this is a good choice because there is alot of good phone outside there...REMEMBER:DON"T EVER NENER BUY THIS USELESS HANDPHONE...

I bought two of these about a year ago, 1 for me, 1 for my brother. My brother's phone has given up life a few months ago, mine is only just keeping alive after I've taken it back three times to get fixed while still under warranty. The display and sound is good, while the phone still works. From the start, the phone gives all kinds of quirks from freezing to blanking out to poor battery life and joystick problems. This phone looks a lot more flashy than it actually is. Very unreliable.

The phone is as such good but the battery backup is very very weak.I need to charge it twice a day.Though it show full charge still the red light flashes as soon as I end a call.Even the memory is low.Just 2 ringtones and 3 pictures are all it can hold. Plz try to improve the battery backup...

I own this phone and it has horrible talk/standby time - I've noticed it since the day I got it and I simply cannot wait to get another phone. The screen quality is poor. The navigation-stick can't tell the difference between left & down. Backspacing an SMS is very slow. Monophonic ringtones are low even when the volume is set to maximum. Quite frankly, a worthless phone. Only good thing about it was it was dirt-cheap when I got it.

It is a really useless phone...joystick stuffed, GPRS stuffed (three times in 6 months!), screen too small, poor build quality, went down about $50 from two months after I got it, poor battery, just a piece of useless tripe. And it is slow. No games, themes, infrared does not work properly, and everything is under strange menu names. Fun and Games? Why not call it Fun Stuff? Do not buy the J200i, you're wasting your cash, believe me. Sony Ericsson need to get their act together quickly, because I'm going for an LG next. Hopefully that isn't pathetic as J200i. My rating? 0/10

I have been using J200 for about 9 months or so.The desighn is ok but the joystick is the worst i ever used in my life. Compared to its counterparts the battery life is the worst which lasts a few hours only. Anybody there in the company should consider my problem and take necessary actions.I wont recommend this mobile to anyone. My friend too is suffering and has sold his mobile for just 1500 bugs.There can be many options for a consumer to take necessary actions so do look into this matter seriously.

After having this phone for 6 months I was ready to get a new one , battery is useless ,shocking and disgraceful . I,ve had this phone back to the place of purchase several times and it is still rubbish .Even had a new battery and new charger . You will have to charge it every 2nd day even if you only send a few messages .Nothing like going from half charge to nearly nothing after a 1 minute phone call . I had a bought a couple of top-end phones before and either lost them or broke them in some way. Hence got this a year ago for about $70 so I wouldn't have that gutting "what a waste of money" feeling. Must say I couldn't be happier - good reception, good volume (ring tone and speaking), none of the freezing issues I has with some of my more expensive phones. Also has a sort of 'i'm no fashion victim' sort of cool to it IMHO. No MMS or internet or anything, but then do you actually know anyone who uses that? Battery life it not fantastic but if you plug it in and the end of the day like I do then its no worries. Lovely. ps - I couldn't work out at first how to turn up speaker volume - you need to push up on the joystick DURING a call. No way to do it when not on a call it seems.

I have had the J200i for about 11 months now and not had too many problems the only thing it sometimes does is the screen goes all purple and shows nothing. With the press of a few buttons this is usually solved.

The only good things about the phone are the ringtone speaker quality and the infra red port. All the other features range from poor to average. The phone looks very good on paper but its fairly usless practically. A full battery charge lasts 3 days at the most. Actually the standby time is quite good but the talktime is poor. The memory is too low, you can only store 8 poly tones and around 15 pictures. Plus it does not display animated pictures. The display of the phone tends to go completley blue after a few months and it keeps happening even after they repair it. It happened to me 3 times in the last 1 year. Since the warranty has expired I am going to get rid of it and get a motorola or a nokia

Hello!. I am using this mobile from more than 1.5 months. I found this mobile phone well with a good picture quality as compare to price. The only problem in this phone is the rubbish speaker, can't play heavy drums like ringtone of "Mission Impossible", "Spring Thaw" and much more.... However, a good phone.

This is the bad phone. No battery life. Talk time is less then one hour and it is slow processing phone. ringtones are good but overall i don't recommend it. not worth while.....better to purchase nokia 2600 instead....

I agree with the comments about the dark-blue screen and distortion. I bought a J200i in April and it's been happening to me frequently. I find that, on occasion, removing the battery (and sometimes and SIM card) can help. But yeah, I'm changing phone soon-ish, methinks.

Really, this is a terrible phone. Battery life is poor (1 hour talk time, 24 hours standby). Less than 6 months old and the keys get stuck and the joy stick is faulty. The phone is (and always has been) slow to respond to commands. And the charger interferes with my radio when connected to the phone! It may be cheap, but even so, it's poor value. My last Sony Ericsson.

hi all,,,i bought SE-j200i 4 months b4 n still faced no problem with it.i read many openions against it but i dont agree with 99% of them.Ist of all its price is so reasonable and so people should be ready 4all the below average performance and defects(if they face) in this product.so people plz ist spend more money then u'll have the right to give these negative openions. now about its battery...i m having a normal use of it and i recharge it after every 2 days.so people complaining should not listen to the ringtones all the day and playing games all the time. its sound quality is mre than great.i hev no words.i just love it.no brnad gives as wonderfull and zabardast sound as this brand is giving. message storage capacity is awsome.functions are superb.Some people complained that if we receive a call while writing a message and we receive a call, the whole message get erased and they have to write it again...this sattement is absolutely WRONG coz the phone automatically saves the message in UNSENT items and u can easily edit that.NO NEED TO RE-WRITE it gain.... color display is XC-lent,IrDa (infra-red) helps transfering files from n to computer,40-cords polyphonic ringtones and wat not n wat not.The best function i like is TO allow calls from people we want.U can create a list in each profile of contacts u want calls from, all other callrs will hear BUSY-TONE when thay will call u.ISnt it wonderfullLLLLLLLLLL????????????? picture call,personal rings,and u can add a number of contacts with the same name.u can see a flash when battery is out of charge. one more quality i like is its SIGNAL_RECEPTION.its more than great again.i use to go an area where signals r very very weak and my previous mobile sets ( nokia ) couldnt catch the signals properly n i was really in problem 4 this.But now with this set SE_j200i i experienced very strong signals.so i recommend this set to those people who live in ech areas where signals r weak. so peple plz stop critisizing it.or otherwise be ready to spend more money.u U cant get IrDA,40-polytones,128x128 colour display,great signals,great sound quality,light weight,very cute n beautifulll look and much more qualities in such a reasonabe n affordable price.u just have to be a little caring about it.it needs nothing else. u all should b thankful2 SONY ERICSSON 4 such a nice product in such a affordable price. This is the worst phone i have ever seen.Let me list out all problems chronologically 1.Phone started hanging within days of purchase.dealer says to remove battery and put it back 2.Features are too few-no mms,limited memory(especially a pain with ringtones),very few themes,wallpapers available for this set,battery life is the worst of any phone. Also when u try to assign personal ringtones,the phone does not allow u to choose from stored numbers...u have to remember the number and enter it manually. Does not display to which number u are sending an sms(unlike T230). The keys do not respond or have very late response 3.Starts hanging in ANY application in 3 months. 4.The worst thing has happened now abou 6 months after purchase....The screen distorts continuously,if switched off and switched on again,a dark blue screen is displayed and nothing can be seen.This blue screen appears and disappears as it wishes. The Service Centre says it will be fixed free of cost,but the part(i think it might be the board itself) is unavailable in the city....and i live in a metropolitan city with 4 Service Centres. Very Crappy phone!utter waste of money

Its beautiful phone with really good ringtones..any ringtone would sound better on this one than on any expensive one. One draw back ..doesn't have in-built modem to use GPRS with computer only handset browsing is supported... Good games and user friendly features sharp color..buy it if u want to love it. ..

Plz u dont buy it. standby time is min 1 days and max 1.5 days and talk time is max 20 to 30 minutes. this is not a speaker phone.

it's alright for people who are getting their first phone but otherwise isn't very good. the battery doesn't last very long and the features are limited not to mention the poor memory. although it has great speakers with kick-ass sound and good graphics and colour. but my infrared port keeps stuffing up, i would reccomend this phone to kids who are getting their first cheap, affordable phone.

This is for J200i. Please don't buy this phone, even for free. It's pathetic. It went for repair for 2 times in a span of 1 month, once for "Auto restart and networking problem" and second time for "No display". Also Very low battery.

Its a bad phone. It shuts down by itself, it hangs, the charging status appears continously even when not charging and the ringtone clarity eventually becomes very poor at louder volume levels. It is recommended to avoid purchasing of this handset.

well i've purchased my new Sony Ericsson J200i and its not bad at all...i mean its worth every cent...its a real cool phone...and the battery is awesome...it needs recharging every 3 days or so which is enough for most of the people i guess...but the chum ahead of me might have been playing with the polyphonic ring tunes during all those 6 hrs...so the battery might required recharging that early...i think this phone is awesome and i simply love it...and its a perfect phone i think...so if anybody wanna buy something awesome...i would suggest that you can pick this phone as a good choice very safely and it won't disappoint you at all:)

it was a real mistake to purchase j200i,since the battery of the handset is very weak .it does not last even for few hours and needs constant recharging,and the back up power is also very low.apart from some of the cool features of the handset,its of no use to those who are busy with their mobiles

Got this J200i for around 1 month only, and sell it in 2nd hand market for 25% less than the original price. Price here right now around US$ 75 (no plan, I'm in Indonesia). J200i is very elegant built, nice color, and nice sounds. But all of that great stuff cannot hinder its main setback, usability and battery life!. Usability is sucks, keypad just too small, only fit for children/teenager. Keypad also not responsive, very slow compared to Nxxxx button responsiveness. Screen quality is ok, but text too small. SE should work better in font size to increase usability of this product. Battery life is the main drawback of J200i. For standby, it just can stand within 2 days or less. For average user, after 10-15 minutes of talk time, battery only remains half from fully charged state. At first I think there is something wrong with the battery, and I bring my phone to the authorized service center. They immediately inform that battery life is the weak point of J200i and when I said that mine was good for 2 days standby, immediately the CSR inform that this situation with my phone already great (?) because in general usually other people only 1.5 days standby. That CSR also ask whether my phone already updated with latest firmware which they believe fix the problem with battery. Then they check my phone and see the firmware version and inform me that my J200i have the newest firmware, and 2 days standby is the best stamina of J200i battery. No solution. After 1 month, I feel sucks with J200i and sell it with 25% loss from the original value. Not recommended model, usability sucks (keypad and text size), and battery life really2 sucks. Great things : Cheap, nice design, nice sound. SE should work better to improve the performance of their incoming model.

a total peice of B.S. memeory, battery, keypad and joystik issues have already been mentioned so i wont waste yours an my time brooding over it. What cheezes me off is that my fone is barely 6 months old..and its LCD is already screwed up. It refuses to display anything but blue color. it wont switch off..and on removing the batery and replacing it after some time..switch the fone on to be greeted by a blue screen again..just like one of those "fatal exception" erors in windows. Very short battery life. New phone, fully charged from empty each time and with very little use - it only lasts 3 days tops! Very disappointed. It has also jammed on me and i haven't been able to turn it off. My old Alcatel never let me down and stayed charged for eight days. I only purchased a new one to get tri band and I am off to take this one back. If you buy one, keep your receipt.

This is a very slow and rubbish phone. I bought this phone in feb 05 this yr. (With Bill). I have sold this now as it got damaged only after 3 months of usage with only "traces" of water. I got it checked with the company and they said the warranty voids on only traces of moisture and they wanted to charge me something above 2000/-. So got repaired from the local person and sold it off. This phone is good to look but real bad in performance. like: 1) It hangs usually when you browse Internet. 2) Overall Very slow while processing your commands. 3) Small memory restricted with 30 kb file trasfer size. 4) Phonebook and call records are worst ! no categorization of the records. 5) No MMS feature 6) Very small battery life. Go for Nokia.. Sony is not trust worthy. I guess Nokia 3200 or 3220 has many more features to provide with 5-7 days standby time in the same price range.

I recently purchased a J200i Sony Ericsson Fone for $99.00 brand new in the box, not hot as it was from a Vodafone shop who claimed it was locked to Vodafone, I have since found out differently, as it takes Telstra and Optus Sim cards, anybody who buys a pre-paid fone should wait about 4 weeks and then try ba different type of Sim card to check that it is or isn't locked to Claimed Network. This is definitely the loudest and clearest sounding fone I've ever owned (approx. 50 fones), it has heaps of regular features that are just that bit better than the others, other than the fact that MMS is not available, I can find no fault in this little wizard, the pictures can be adjusted thru contrast, until you get the exact feel that you want. My son has a T300 (Sony Ericsson) and I consider my fone to be miles ahead of his in simplicity, I know that sms's have a limited life, but that is so on most fones if you care to go into it, unless you pay mega-bucks, anyway they are only sms's and can be transferred onto the Calendar/Organizer, aTop little fone, especially for the price. One of the only fones that I know to have gone up in price since being released onto the market late last year (approx. 30% increase) and well worth it.

Use the PSMPLAYER program to convert Mp3 and WAV files into .mmf ringtones. The voice sounds okay from the oddly shapped speaker but you can get about 9 or so seconds of voice in one ringtone, then transfer it via infrared. The phone only holds 8 or so polys so keepo an eye on the memory.

Hey, this phone met my requirement of a low-priced phone, but guess what! A few days after I bought it, when the screen was blank and I tried to awake it, the "clock" was moving to another side of the screen at the same time, and it suddenly hang. yeah,battery life is really vry low-abt 1 or and half day.if u play games and talk a lot,half a day is maximum. however its sound and looks rock. amazingly IR works vry fine and can b connectd 2 other SE phones as well as nokia 6600 etc vry easily.

I bought Sony ericson j200i with a hope that its a good set but now I regret my decision. Infrared port is incompatible with other contemporary phones like nokia and Mitsubishi etc. Games are pathetic, you don't feel like playing any of those. There are no sites from where you can get some good games for J200i set. I hope Samsung puts the same on their web sites.

Hi All, I have had the J200i for 3 months. It was returned to Sony one week after purchase...I received an sms and it kept vibrating... They put a new insides in it. It worked fine..except for the battery life of 2 days ...2 and a half on power save with no calls...hmmm a bit short of the 200hrs specified... Now it won't charge at all, and has been returned to Sony for repair.. I hope they fix it properly this time. Cheers

I cant believe the menus are so slow! It is the same speed as my old T68! You would think with this watered-down version without bluetooth, MMS or anything that the operation would be fast... the joystick is not comfortable or easy to use.. buttons feel "mushy" There are better budget phones out there.. all a good budget phone needs to do is be loud and clear for talking, operate fast through the menus.. and have a slim, minimalistic profile. is that so hard?

The ring tone in this mobile is quite loud , but when you make a call , the voice on the other side is barely audible. Each time I make a call, I used to tell the person on the other side to shout. If you use this phone , people will think you are deaf. and .... Battery life is poor. Gets heated soon. No Java for additional games. probably the lousiest phone I've EVER used. Seriously marring the SE image of a company which produces top quality phones. Bad resolution, bad battery life, VERY limited memory (and to add to the fact that it is not shared). It however, has a nice design, loud polyphonic speaker and an infra-red port. Had it a coupla weeks. Nice display though needs to be on max. contrast to read in bright sunlight. Battery charge 48hrs max. No probs contacting Tasmania from Victoria; crystal clear and no dropout. Gets very warm after 3o minutes of talking. But for $A89 outright and unlocked, plus $30 credit (@42cents/minute), I reckon its beaut.

im very unhappy with this phone. the keypad is not responsive, it is very slow to type SMS/text messages, which is really painful. the joystick is not very accurate and its very easy to select the wrong option. the address book is very very basic. you can only have 1 number per person, so to add someones mobile number and home number you ahve to do separate entries. the SMS/text memory is very limited and you will continually have to delete messages to make space. this phone is VERY basic. if you want a phone for your grandmother to use that is cheap and colourful then by this. I would recommend it for anyone else

its a good fone.nice ring tones,but its battery backup is very low,only 1 1/2 days.but u can change its software to an updated version by gettin it to an authorised service centre.they told me that it must be a prob wit d old software.

well i've had this phone 4 about a week n its really a cute cell to have. apart 4rom the short battery life (which i think is quite reasonable for frequent users) i think every other function is just OKIE....i would recommend this phone to all guys around here...its a gr8 phone if we think reasonably...gr8 ring volume (higher then many many cell phones)...600 kb memo (so what do u expect in such a little price)

No GPRS modem. Don't get befooled by the infra-red. Its useless; transfers ony images. Not recommended fot peple who like to use for conncetivity.

Mr girish eshwaran i wud like to answer ur question.the phone doesnt have good battery.so what they have done is that the screen just switches off after some and not the phone, just like a PC monitor turns off.so be relaxed .there is no such problem in ur phone.it is just a battery saving option.

Dumb phone from sony, The battery life is very short-can make only 6-8 calls for 12 hours charge. The display light get switched-off very frequently. Dumb-phone.....don't EVER buy this phone

The J200i is a cool phone...but there's some bad things about it...everything is fine...I use this phone for a month already... The batt life is kinda bad when you always make calls. The screen is kinda good but not under sunlight. The sound is great! is better than K700i sound. Trust me, those who always play ringtones!

For me J200i is OK. We can't expect more than we pay with that price. I can say J200i is prety good for normal user. Beautiful sound and also picture. The weakness of J200i is no GPRS modem. The Infra red on that device just for transferring sound and image from PC/Laptop or other SOny erricson.

hi to all you guys using 2001 and to all those who want to buy 2001.!! i have been using this phose for a couple of weeks now and i to opin that this phone is all striped down to the basic. It coms with only 600k of memory for the all your pic and tones(can handle only about 20 pict and fewer tones). I dosent connect to the PC via infrared. As far as the looks.... it just steals.

i purched j200i in india. my experience with it is bad. it lacks many features which the inferior mode t230 is having. i faced a hell of difficulty to connect it to my pc using usb irda adapter, till now i was not able to do so. the battery back up is also not good. if use (talk or play) it lasts only 2 - 2.5 hrs. again u have to charge it. ring tones are good but not loud enough to hear it if tv is on or u r 6 - 7 feet away from the set. i had a horrible experience with this set.

hi! I bought this phone two days back.I have been using Nokia till date but i thought of trying Sony erricson.My experience till date using this phoen has not been very good.My phone switches off and turns on all of a sudden automatically.AT the same time even if i charge the bateery for 8 hours the battery does not last for more than a day.Has anyone else faces such problems.If so please let me know what shall i do.I know that i can contact the Service centre and get it fixed.Please reply

I live in NEW YORK and today I walked in to one cell. phone dealer store and he offered me this phone for $170 I believe. Hah sounds too good to be true? Guess what then; I inserted my T-Mobile sim card and WOW, what a surprise: As always with Sony Ericsson, there is so much static that I could barely hear anything while tested that phone by calling T-Mobile customer care (the best way to check the sound quality of the phone). Anyway I don't know whether it was one phone damaged or not, but it is just horrible.

No doubt this set is great in design, in handling, in sound bla bla, but the little problem is that its really heat up early i think with in 15 min in talking. And the other thing is that its predefined object cant be deleted and the memory is low.

Yes atif. This phone costs 6,500PKR. You may find it for higher at some places, this is the place at electronic market. It definately has better ringtones than the Nokia 3100. I would go for this, because its new, the 3100 is pretty old now. But if you like Nokia's then go for the 3100, although you will miss out on some AWESOME ringtones which this mobile has.

I used a Motorola before I got this one with me. Considering price, this baby is a good deal... nice features and all, its dedicated ringtone speaker kicks hard. One thing bothers me most: batt life. Oh, the navigator button is sometimes an issue as well. Unintentionally sent a few SMS for keep pressing it but maybe it's just me.

It is really a fantastic phone in its cost. The demerit it holds is the absence of MMS and less memory. Rest is really good. My suggestion to you is please go for a sony ericsson or why not, philips. Never in my life i shall suggest a nokia to any one.

Seems to do everything I want. My biggest problem is the battery life; part of the reason I replaced my old Nokia 2100 was because I had to charge it every second day; well this phone is brand new and I'm probably having to charge it more frequently than my old nokia.

I bought this phone for $99AU From Vodafone and for the low price it was, im pretty happy with what i bought. i didnt expect a handheld PC with all the bells and whistles that the upmarket phones are like. I never feel the need to use MMS, because this phone has IRDA which allows the user to transfer things freely. Also the colour screen does the job for seeing things clearly and it sounds nice when it rings. Overall if i had a choice between this phone and some nokia equivelant i would certainly pick this one. its great for the price and does the job plus some nice extras.

Hey there Fellas, Yes... I must agree. In terms of the features it has to offer, this phone is a really good buy. But then, I have faced some problems with my phone. I bought the phone in December, 2004 and already the battery lasts for a day at the most. At times the battery low audible alarm sounds even when the battery display indicates otherwise. The newest problem I have experienced is that, when I'm using the phone, it restarts on it's own for some reason. I have just sent it to the service center and hope that they will be able to fix the issue. All in all, I like the phone. But I am a little upset because of this erratic behaviour.

At Rs 5200/- in India this mobile rocks. At this price you can compromise for its slow reaction time, its not that slow as Motorolas are. Best 4096 display in the market. Good big screen size. Very small n handy n looks more upmarket fon. Go for it.

It's ok for it's price. Better resolution than Nokia's 4096 color cellphones. 2 things that I don't like though, batt life and it's slow reaction time. I don't know why SE can't fix this. The Nokia 2100 is faster than this one. But the J200 has a lot of things to admire.

The only clever one here is Christ Almighty as not all phones need to be expensive, besides I'm a pro photographer and all those cameras in all Nokias, SEs, Siemenses and so on are crapy, I'mean a good camera is twice as large as a mobile, so how can a good one fit IN a mobile :), you are not discussing political issues of the U.S. but mobile phones, so notice that some of us do not need to spend $1000 to buy one, having said that it's a quite nice mobile :)

These sorts of handsets are the standard, everyday sort of phones which are given away free with contracts etc. There are always going to be low-end model phones, just as there are with things like cars and computers. Now that I've said that, perhaps you guys will understand why there's no camera, radio, mp3, mms, bluetooth, penknife, coffee-maker, blender, and miniature microwave oven built into this particular model.
