I hope someone can help me. My W380 was working pretty well (despite the drawbacks due to software quality). It started getting a bit sloe and so I decided to delete some stuff, stumble upon a folder and decided to see what was there to delete.. next thing I know the screen goes blank... key and screen lights still on but nothing happening for a a minute or 2.. so I tried holding the power button for a few seconds (several time) still nothing.. I resorted to taking the battery out. After replacing the battery.. the phone never turned on again.. Has anyone had that problem, and if yes could you suggest a solution outside of buying a new phone? You can message me at [email protected] Thanks in advance

Go change the ribbon It's damaged, I experienced that problem already and the phone technician changed out my ribbon and the problem was immediately resolved.

This phone is a fairly good but a little underdeveloped but still a decent phone with some fairly good features. My main issues with it is as I said It could have been better like video taping capabilities (a camera), a crappy camera, a relatively low so called loud speaker and very small screen but overall this phone gets a 6/10 for me personally.

Having had the phone for 2 months working, all features, gave it to my girl friend after upgrading to bb, it worked for a while, then problem heaven opened. First needed charging everyday, then speaker to hear ring none, vibrate ok, music ok. My Question is what You all doing about these problems, are we Ginny-pigs. All those 3 problems that you mentioned at this phone are valables to almost all the phones, believe me. I'm from Romania, and even if i'm not an mobile phone expert, i can tell you from my phone experience, cause i had an Sony Ericsson W 810i and it was very sensitive when it comes to listening to music at headphones.The charging problem ? I had that too. Now i have a Nokia N73 and those problems are valable at this one too.It depends how much you care for your phone, cause if you don't care at it at all it's obviously that you press those buttons like you're writting at an old button typing machine.

I had this phone for 2 years. And it still works fine, eventhough I slept with it, with leaving the flip up open and accidentally fall it for more than 10times. although the buttons kept falling appart and the camera isn't great. I still love this phone. ^^

I hate this phone. I had it for a year and it started out good for the first couple of months before it started causing problems with the speaker, camera and buttons. I strongly advise everyone to buy a different phone.

My advice to anyone. Do not buy this phone!! the quality is no good and starts giving loads of problems. The buttons are also very stiff and not easy to use. This phone gave me a load of trouble so stay away from it.

Not the most powerful cellphone on the market, and has a weak CPU, but in design it's very beautiful. What I find annoying is the weak speaker on the phone; One can barely hear it. A camera on 1MP am well enough for me. Find the OLED-panel a huge plus, and the gesture control very unique (though useless really). In reality it is very overpriced based on the hardware, but since people look for design, rather then power, I guess Sony Ericsson made a good business deal, no?

Its a v bad phone......... its not even 1 yr, the phone never catches signals........the memory card is of no use..not working.........when i went to the sony ericsson service center they did not even entertained claiming you have to change the entire handset. The phone is already not working & the service center people in gurgaon are taking money from the company for no use........if they cant repair it i would suggest better they quit....... shame on the entire sony ericsson group ........

I've been using a black SE W380i for 1.5 yrs now. The plastic on the keys are coming off, but that's probably cuz of my long fingernails. The screen goes blank easily if dropped on the floor too frequently. Happened quite a few times to me. But it goes back to normal if you take out the battery and leave it for, lets say 1-3 days. Music-wise, it has got a great speaker. But the camera function ain't that good. The camera frame is SO small that it looks like those profile photo you see in forums. W380i's gesture control is cute though^^ The layout is really nice compared to other phones i used before. Plus, it's affordable. Overall, I give it a 7/10. =)

i've been using this phone for over a year . until this time , i've never had any weird issues due to neither of manufacturing nor of long usage . it's because i've taken a really good care of it , perhaps :D however , the one and only problem is that the keypad material sucks . my keypad has cracks all over it, the (5) key even had come off -.- ! nevertheless , i love this phone , it's fashionable . moreover it's the pink on silver hahahaha !

I've had this phone for over 1 year now and it is the worse phone i've ever had.First the problems appeared just after 2 months.The software kept freezing and the phone just kept turning off out of nowhere.I've had it fixed several times but the problems keep coming up.And the batteries only last kinda 2 days tops.My former phone from a different manufacturer lasted like 5 to 6 days.I'm planning to buy a new phone. I've also used the W300 and had absolutly no problems with it, that's why i chose to buy a Sony Erricson again.Big mistake!

trust me , WORSE PHONE EVER . ive had it only for a year and first month , the front screen stopped working. its not very durable because with all my other SE phones id text in the rain and rain would go on the screen but it`d be fine , this thing the key pad is so bad now i hate texting because of that you drop it , its a goner , well for mine soon to be ive dropped if 2 times the flip has a HUGE crack , my camera is cracked theres several cracks all over the phone .

I really do like the phone but the screen shows no display now and it's less than 12months and whats sad is the dealer refuses to fix it because they say it has physical damage so apparently there are some really tiny cracks along the sides of the screen that have gone unnoticed. I haven't really ran into too much problems with this phone, I've had it for almost 2 years and its working pretty well for me. Only thing I really didn't like is the speaker, it only plays one side (idk how to explain it but certain songs it sounds different from R and L speaker)and this phone only plays one side. Another issue is the camera I really don't like the picture quality.

I bought a w380 almost 2 years ago. I've been disappointed by this device because: 1. the case is quite sharp to the corners and can hurt your ears when talking on the phone 2. it has a very bad software, I brought it to the service 3 times, even after that and all possible updates it still failed to work and they needed to change it in total 3. the new phone has now a problem at the charging socket, the phone doesn't charge at all (the charger is fine I test it with other SE phones). A good thing is the track_id feature which allows you to see the song's title and artist name when you listen to the radio. My recommandation is not to buy such a phone.

Had this phone for a year with a 1 year warranty. It's very sensitive, speakers stopped working after 3 months. After I got a new one, phone became corrupt and would freeze when receieving phone calls. Waste of money. Went through this phone twice during the warranty and it broke twice.

Honestly, NEVER turn this phone off because it won't turn on again. I honestly had to keep pressing the button over and over again for it to turn back on. The few times where I was stupid enough to turn the phone off I had to wait like 30-60mins to turn it back on! Once it was turned off for an hour and when I went to touch it the phone was so hot it physically burned my hand. The battery had been overheating and it wasn't even on!

Friends what 2 say this is a rare phone. U can use it just 2 call multimedia will not work no it properly.it has no video recording.it supports 3gp video with amr audio code @12 fps the best feature is its clarity.its display is fine. Player supports music of mp3 and aac.audio clarity with speaker is average. Camera can have normal quality pictures.the battery back up is 3days minimum. Key board will get damaged on rough use. Its special features like gestures control must be activated to use it .it will work smoothly with 1gb memory but have problems with 2gb. Now abt the one i had it have battery back up of 5days under normal use. Fine picture quality and nice video playing. Its speaker sound is not so powerfull since there is speakers with it. I had changed the whole system 3 times under free of cost. I am getting 4kbps speed under downloading with browsing under our networks of india. Its overally performance is good. One more thing do play droping it.though my e phone dropped from me more than three times its working normally.

It's a good phone if you just want to do the basic stuff. However, it IS really sensitive. Just by keeping it in my pocket (never dropped it), the OLED display in the front of it broke in 2 weeks. And about 4 months later the regular speaker broke, so i could talk to people only with the speakerphone. Oh, and the gesture control never worked. =/

worst phone out there. i've had it for a year and i've already had to change the keys. Here are all the reasons why this phone sucks: 1. eventually the keys will stop responding and you will have to press them right in the middle (many times) just for it to respond 2. the battery is horrible! Yesterday I used my phone three times - twice to turn off the alarm and once to take a call...by the end of the day the battery was in red. I had charged it full the night before. 3.It's camera sucks. Horrible pictures. 4. It's an older version than other phones. DO NOT BUY PHONE! [no matter how "nice" it looks on the outside].

To be frank, I've dropped it a lot of times and it never gave up on me. I'm a music freak and I play my songs on full volume and the speakers have not even cracked. The thing I love about this phone was the music keys, in which you didn't have to open your phone to choose the songs and also the fact that when someone calls you and if you don't want to answer, just move your hand back and forth in front of the camera and it mutes the call (function name: Gesture control).

Yes, it is true. The main speaker (the louder one) will stop functioning. My sister bought one and it stopped working after 3 weeks. HOWEVER (that's a big however), it's very easy to solve. I took the phone to someone I know, and he fixed in like 3 or 5 minutes. He told me it's common with this phone, but it is extremely easy to fix. This quick-fix problem is not a big deal. She told me she would still buy even if she knew about this simples problem (because it's easy to fix). It's still a great phone, I believe... very good.

I have had my Sony Ericsson w380 for about three months, and I have found no problems with the phone. I have dropped it at least four times and it still works like new. Although the speaker does wear out after only 8 months, I believe that this is a fairly good phone. This phone is not for somebody who likes to listen to music a lot on their phone; they will find themselves replacing the phone after only a few months.

This phone is very pretty. However the screen on the outside went crazy after a month and the words were garbled. Awhile after that started it just went blank. Then the speaker stopped working so you cant use the speaker phone or listen to music out loud. Then the buttons kept getting stuck so you have to push them very hard. Then the music on the mp3 player wouldn't work, saying ERROR. The gesture control is a joke. Doesn't work half the time. On top of all that it freezes alot and the screen can go black. All in all this phone does not last too long.

Horrible phone. Loved the design, but after 2 weeks, the external screen stopped working. After a month, the vibrating alert would sometimes stop working. Now, the ringing alert also sometimes will not work. All of this means that when someone calls you, you WON'T EVEN GET A HINT!!! (The gesture control is just a gimmick. Sounds nice, but is inconvenient. Plus, you'll look crazy in public.)

Well i have used this phone for almost 6 months i ve had number of problems with this phone battery life is terrible.Sound quality is ok though it is W series.And camera is really bad it is 1mp camera but in manual it is written that it is 1.3mp camera ,no video recording a big down point,it hangs evry now and then and also the picture quality is not so good earphone will create problems afer a while . It is a very basic phone i will not recommend for music lovers because best phones are available with the cheaper rates like nokia xpressmusic. And gesture control also does not work properly.this would be my last sony phone.

Honest comment.. Camera is a lil bit suckish, external dsplay is unsseenable under the sun, no video recorder. Keypad is al lil too hard to press uncomfortable for fast typer, speaker is suck, big time when at full volume. Speakerphone is very suck barely can hear. Reception so far is ok, battery life is ok. No big clock on standby. No battery status percentage. Best earphone, best Walkman keys outside. Best Walkman, average phone. At Malaysia, you can get this about RM368..

This phone sucks... The menu is the worst in the W series... There are many options missing.. font size, the "gesture control" really is just not usefull it works when it wants. The keypad is terrible, the "call" or left button and the "w" button just stop working you have to press it so hard . The Walkman player is terrible, it looks like the phone has not the necesary capabilities to run the W player. Signal is so bad, I had it with TIGO in Colombia, and the W380 show "no service" in some places where a Motorola Z3 had 3 and 4 of 5 bars I�ve had some Sony Ericsson Phones: Z200, K300, Z550, W380, T230, and all these phones are just the same "�$%�$%& , really this w380 is the last Sony Ericsson I�ll have... this brand is making worst products every day.. the only good sony Ericsson I�ve ever had is the Z600.

This phone is OKAY. I have the w380i version. I've had some problems with the phone all of a sudden not recognizing the memory card but that is solved by restarting the phone. The camera is dissappointing and so is the fact it has no video recording or flash. Walkman functionality is good but the fact that you need to use special sony headphones can be annoying. I've dropped a few times and it is a sturdy well built phone. I like the shell design a lot, it was one of hte mainreasons i bought the phone. Also the SARS raiting is low, i think it's .74 or .64 . The gesture control is really cool when you don't want to talk to someone but don't want to give them the IGNOREd answer that goes straight to voicemail. It just mutes the call so you cant hear it but if you open up it will answer even after the gesture control. Also the speaker is not very good. It sounds very tinny. The games on the phone really suck but that's probably because i have an international version of the phone. Haven't gone on the web browser. Also the inbox/outbox for texting holds a pretty large amount of messages so you don't have to constantly delete them. Overall i'd say its a good phone if you just want the basic cell phone but with a walkman functionality as long as you don't mind the bad camera somewhat tinny speaker.

I'm on my second W380. After two months, the first one didn't vibrate when I got a call or msg, so sony changed it for a new one. They gave me one that wasn't well painted by the way (some parts of the phone look more black than purple). After another two months, the buttons don't respond the way they did before. Sony won't let me change it for anothe model and pay the difference. Plus the speaker and camera are quite bad. Seriously, not worth it.

a great phone. Lots of feature. I always show the gesture control magic to my friends they get amazed by it. Sound is really good. Smart music buttons. TrackID feature is helpful. The OLED screen outside makes it different from others. Speed is not lightening fast but it works fine for me. 3d games run fine. Built-in speaker is poor and the camera is really extra. And the screen is a bit small, everything fights for space in it. If you want a smart & good looking phone in cheap price go for it.

Ultra-bright screen. Keys are ok-sensitive, but sometimes you need to press harder. Nice music key touch in the front. Menus and applications are easy to access. My cons' are the 1MP camera and its inability to record videos. It's a great walk-man phone for normal use, don't expect that much. I bought a 2GB card for it, everything works great.

It's an absolute rubbish phone - so if your considering buying it pls stop! i had it for six months. The phone developed cracks everywhere and the Speakers stopped working.The cracks later led to pieces of the cover falling off, exposing the phones hardware. poor 2G signal too. Camera quality is poor. Does not take videos. and keys on keypad are are so far apart that it slows down typing alot.

I've had this phone for a month,and after using and playing around with it,I'd have to say it's one of the best phones I've ever used. The call quality is nice and clear and my calls are never dropped at all. I guess the only thing I don't like about it is the camera. The pictures aren't exactly clear,but it's okay as long as you have photo editing software. Actually,you can put mp3 ringtones on your phone. All you need is a program where you can edit the song you want. Audacity is a free audio editor you can download. Just upload the sound you want,cut out whatever parts you want to make your ringtone,save it as an mp3,and transfer the mp3 to your phone using the USB cable and the Sony Media Manager(...or you can go here, edit your sound,and transfer your ringtone via WAP:

well, i have been using this phone since 7-8 months and have been incurring a lot of problems with it. Its sound quality is good but only when its speakers work well which actually doesnt happen THAT often. There is this problem with its display which turns off anytime. I have showed it a lot of times to the service centre. Many things have been replaced but still the problems persist. Looks wise its really good. electric purple color is too sexy. but looks arent the opnly thing which one wud luk for in a phone. so my experience isnt THAT good !! :|

If you want a SIMPLE yet stylish walkman phone, then this is definitely yours. -don't complain for the 1.3 mp. Otherwise it would be too expensive. -Screen is automatically turned off if it is not in used, for the purpose of the saving the battery life. -Sounds are great for a walkman phone. But again don't compare it with the higher SE models. Obviously they sound better than this. -For those who complained for the blank OLED display. Again, it depends on how you've used it. --Again, if you just want a phone to fulfill your basic mobile needs like using SMS, Calls and Sounds. Buy it!

My orange black one is really stylish. The walkman and gesture control functions are cool. If you dont care for the low res camera, it is enough. However, in the 3rd month my speaker stopped functioning and in the 5th month the earphone side hinge cracked without reason. I spent 2 months without my mobile, waiting for SE Brazil service, and in the end they gave me a new one.

I have had exactly the same problem as everyone else. My screen just keeps turning itself off and it also randomly turns itself of sometimes as well. Considering it is a walkman the speaker doesn't work very loud and there is no way to turn it up more than what is already is. Another problem with it for me is that there is no video recording and the camera is dark even in a light room. I recommend thinking about it before you buy it !!???

I had bought this phone last 4 months. I really like the colour, so I pick the purple one and the design is cool but then I have a problem about this phone. The speaker did not working at all, it is really hard for me to know or hear wheather people calling or texting me. The only way is using the vibration but I don't like it, I want to hear the songs or anything from the phone :( but when Im using the hearset, I can hear the songs really nice. I have had this phone for 3-4 months now, heavy usage, and it still keeps up alright. Only drawback is that my external screen has stopped working (lighting up) 100% of the time, it's lit like.. 40% of the times when it SHOULD be lit. The music bumps still light up and work fine though :) If you don't really mind about the external display getting iffy (aka, you don't really care about seeing the song title/ caller ID) then you're fine. Battery life is alright for me too.

The signal of your phone is actually depends on your service provider. Take Celcom and Digi for instances. Celcom's signal is better than DiGi because the Celcom has more transceiver stations than Digi. About the external screen. It can only seen clearly during at night, this is because the screen brightness is low. This is normal.

I think the phone was a good idea but you can tell that they are not done working out the kinks. My mom got one of these and within a week I got one for myself. After 2 weeks of my mom having it her screen no longer worked. With that I knew to get rid of mine when it was still worth something. Also the clock/ notification of who is talking is nearly impossible to see if it is light out.

I'm having minor problems with the Walkman but it's no big deal because there are ways to get around it and it's still functioning pretty well. It takes a bit of time to get used to the keypads especially if you were using a Nokia phone prior to this but trust me, you'll get used to it and pretty soon, it won't be a bother anymore. These are what I like about it: 1. Exterior. It's definitely a girl's dream phone. 2. Touch pad for Walkman on the cover. 3. Lock/unlock key button. 4. Really cheap for a walkman phone. I got it for about $120 and that's cheap for any camera phone that's half decent. 5. Burst function in Camera. This is the sequence shots. It's fun to play around with it. 6. It charges when you plug in the USB to the PC. 7. Megabass. However, it's only predominant when you use the headset. The signal is not bad at all from where I'm at. Maybe it depends on your network or something. Tip: If you're going to buy any SE phone, it would be best if you buy directly from SE. Most of the warranties provided by other sellers are service warranties. That means that if a part needs replacement, you'll have to pay for the part. Or you can ask for the type of warranty they are providing before buying it. Sony Ericsson warranties are the best because even though the phones are dependable, it's a pain in the a$$ to try to get fixed if there's something majorly wrong with it if you don't have an SE warranty.

I work for a service provider and must i say i hate selling this phone to a customer. I always tell them to choose a different phone from our selection because they're going to be dissappointed/ regretful in a month. There is a 1 year warranty but the warranty issues on this phone are brutal. the front display always craps out and other misc things happen to this phone. we cant even keep up with all the warranty issues. We have a freaking huge list for people to wait to exchange there for under warranty. Brutal phone imo.

i have had this phone for atleast 2 weeks now..its a pretty gud phone..my only dissapointed is that it cant record videos..umm..with the equalizer, i dont really hear the difference between the megas bass,voice the treble boost..ect...but i still love it...

Hi Shaun, The W910 slider has come down in price a lot lately, so have a look at that one. I wouldn't recommend the W350 because the front flip seems too flimsy for my taste but that's a personal preference. Also have a look at the W300i if you'd like a really good deal and are not too worried about the camera. (that one's a flip too).

I had this phone for maybe 2 months! And i loved every minute of it, brilliant phone, great sound.....until it started giving me troubles!!!! Firstly the outside screen started giving me troubles ( never showed up and wouldn't work even though i used that lock key!) but that never really bothered me until i could not recieve calls!!!!!! But thats not my biggest problem, my biggest problem is that one day i switched it off ( with full battery ) and a hour later it NEVER SWITCHED BACK ON!!!!! And it looked like im not the only one thats had this problem...as i've read this seems to be a problem.....but suprisingly this is not a major problem because i know this is just a software problem and could be fixed by yourself by downloading the new software!!!......Please dont get turned off by this...this is a macnificent phone that is a very good phone!!!! Unfortunatly my phone couldn't get fixed:(. I am a very strong and proud Sony Ericsson fan and thats not going to change by this!!!! I've only had Sony Ericssons and only will have their phones!!! My next phone I am looking at is the W350...is it a good phone or should i go for something else?? My conclusion: W380 is a brilliant phone!!!!! GET IT!!!!

Prices will vary per country. tom, the screen turns off after 15 seconds (followed by the screen saver) in order to save power. i have had this phone for nearly half a year now and i love it to bits, its simple and easy to use, i like the music player however it could be a litle louder, my only problem with it is that occasionaly it will turn itself off when i flip it up however i think this is because i have a lot of songs on it and this causes it to freeze/switch off, this phone does not have a video recorder but thi does not realy matter because who realy uses a video recorder anyway. overall i give this phone a 8 out of 10 and recomend that next time you want a new phone think about getting one of these there great!!!

i have used this hp about 4 months. i do love it but.. there are some probs anyway. - sometimes the screen suddenly blank - sound need to re-adjust for incoming calls, otherwise it becomes too slow, cannot hear louder can somebody plzz tell me why these happen? and plus, the battery is low quickly .. hmm need to charge everyday... y hmm?

This is my first cellphone. I bought the phone in Toronto at the full price of $150 CDN. The design is absolutely gorgeous and the mp3 player has very useful external controls. Also, the speaker is quite impressive. As for the FM Radio, it allows you to preset your favourite radio stations for easier browsing. So, with one click, you can go to your next radio station with such ease. This phone will not disappoint you. Despite it being a cell phone, I seem to use the alarm function more than anything! It's great for waking yourself up in the morning... and it allows you to snooze for 9 minutes and will ring+vibrate again. Then, you can snooze again, again, and again, or turn off the alarm. Hehehe! =)

Pro: 1) Value for money. 2) Sound quality from earpiece is excellent. 3) gesture control (Turn off sound by waving hand) 4) Memory Slot (M2) - Come with 512MB. Con: 1) Keypad hard to press. 2) External sound is quite poor. 3) Battery life is slightly shorter. It can last for 1.5 day if i've lotsa phone called. Best phone in my record is only 2 day max. 4) Battery life for a walkman phone is bad. (Compare to player) 5) Video Recorder missing. (Yeap, Phone is very cheap. I bought this phone in May this year because I really like its design, however one months down the track, overnight without dropping the phone once, I lost the camera function or ringtone volume as well. It took 6 weeks to fix and apparently was a manufacturer's hardware problem. Now I ve noticed the reception quality is poor! I have missed calls completed and find missed calls msg without the phone even ringing because it was out of service!. I have since switched to the w910i, so far so good!

I had a Sony Ericsson before this and loved it. Unfortunately (after a year and a half!) it finally went bust :(. I felt confident with buying this phone back in June of this year, but in August the screen went really weird and then it worsened and the screen would only turn on sometimes when I flipped it up. Within the last week or so its started to go negative and it freezes and fades all the time. Sometimes goes mirrored and spilts into two screens. So I'm giving up and just gonna get a cheap phone that I can call people, text people with and use it as a radio, cause thats all I need. I'd also like to point out that I have only ever dropped it once (and after it broke) admittidly it probably worsened the situation, but over all this phone is really faulty. My friend's got it and has had problems with her screen too. Good company (most people I know have Sony Ericsson and they are all great) but crap phone. xx

Our w380 has been a disaster. Had the phone 6 months, with five of those at the service center. They never fix it, and just send it back. Battery life is pathetic! No where near what Sony states. Beware, this phone has no video recorder. I was sold this at the carphone warehouse with it supposidly having one, I am now trying to get a refund for this phone, very disappointing. I have spoken to carphone warehouse Head Office and they inform me, that there areno refunds on any orange handsets, which I wasnt told in the shop either. Having worked in mobile retail stores this phone comes highly recommneded. Sonys are always going have issues at some stage but for the price this is immaculate. Robust, well featured and cheap it has the basics of everything you need in a phone. A lot of these reviews seem to be from people who wanted high end phones and features but weren't prepared to put their money where their mouth is... Buy it for its all-round brilliance.

This is the Worst Sony Ericsson Mobile I have ever used .. from the first week I had trouble with the screen, when I took it to the Agent they said that its Software problem, and they changed the equipment..I had the same exact probelm with the new equipment I took after 2 weeks.. I have bought this one month ago. I am totally unsatisfied with this. It really hurts me with no vedio recording, no image zooming,no photo and vedio DJ,no remote control,small screen size,low speaker sound with no manual in equalizer and no streaming available. Definitely the 350 looks better, but choosing it is really a wrong decision! Because the w350's color on the playback keys and navigation keys will rip off(it really does) within few weeks! So, if the good looking phones becomes ugly one within a month, Should u buy it? SonyEricsson really using very cheap materials in phones! It really hurts! Ok. If you have to choose between a w380 and a w350 go for the w350 ALL THE WAY. I have finally this phone in my hands and after 2 hours playing with it all I can say is this phone is bulky and fugly. Its technically like a w350 but UGLY. The external keys are hard to use and most of the time dont work like they should. The external speaker sounds like a really bad and old musicbox. The w350 has BY far better external sound. The w380 is hard to open and the main screen is small and UGLY. Not like the w350 that has its screen exposed (that might be a drawback) but it has better colors and somehow looks bright and bigger than the w380. The headset are big and if you have ever used a w580 or even a w300 you will never move to another headsets like this phones have. Dont waste your money and if you have the chance to choose between a w380 and a w350 go for the last one, no questions asked.

REALLY DISAPPOINTMENT with a good experience with the T610,K700 and W810 I decided to buy two w380 for me and my gf (grey and purple), with the knowledge that its a very simple phone - no video,1mb camera, unable to record calls, weak battery etc' - but we didnt mind those functions therefor it didnt concern us. BUT, after a month or so the OUTER SCREEN started blinking and few days after shut itself completely. happened to my phone and my gf phone as well !!!. now few weeks after that the SPEAKER stooped working - now i can not hear when someone is ringing ,and dependent if i can notice the vibration or not. :0( guess its a matter of days until the same will happen to my gf phone :)

i like w380 i think it is an nice slender phone and very light in weight and the built in handsfree is loud enough, just one quarm is the buttons are flat and you have to press hard whether it is coz its knew we will see.but i do like it anyway

I also agree this phone has weak battery. it is also difficult to open it up to answer a call, it fell off my hands several times trying to answer a call. it seems to me that it's antenna sensitivity is low. many times I got weak signal strength while my wife has full strength and perfect sound quality in her motorolla cellphone, both of us with the same service provider.

the gesture control is more a gimmick than a well working feature - I can not get it to work normally - you can also press some of the site keys to stop the alarm (snooze function) and so on

This phone doesn't have video recording,which is a main drawback.The sound,externally is also not clear and loud compared to that of the other model,W200i.On the other hand,its OK with the ear phones in. The design's good.Its gets switched-off automatically,unknowing to the user.

Perhaps you should consider upgrading. I don't think Windows even supports Win2000 anymore. However, if upgrading isn't an option, I have a few ideas. The first one is just to select WinXP and click "OK", I don't know if the software allows you to do so or not, but XP and Win2000 have very similar directory structures, so it shouldn't be a problem. If that doesn't work, the only other thing I can think of is for you to install a WinXP virtual machine on your Win2K pc using VMware of something like that. It is a good second phone. I like it because it is thin and fits in my pocket. the camera is disappointing and not what you would expect from Sony and it doesn't do video. I don't like the sound quality of the handsfree speaker. I use it for a second phone.

Yes I had a PEBL for my last phone also. The sales person kept telling us that this was the best phone they had but I kept having my eyes on the ROKR but as soon as she starting talking about the phone and she turned it on i fell in love with it... although I've only had it for like two days so far...i have fallen in love with it...mine is purple and I love that you dont even have to open the phone up to operate the mp3 player. a few things I dont like are that you cannot use the songs you download as ringtones, you cannot capture videos, and the camera screen is really small while taking pictures and not very clear. but it's still the best phone ive had.

Horrible phone! Complete dissapointment. By far the worst phone I've had. The speaker is pretty much non-existent being so, SO low. The Gesture function only works a handful of times. Battery life is incredibly low. Images on the screen look pixelated unless you manually scale them down first to fit the screen. Poor camera. All in all a very bad phone. Mine freezes at times, like when I try to use the camera, 60% of the time the screen freezes. At times when receiving a call, the front screen doesnn't work so I can't see who's calling, try to make it stop ringing and it doesn't, then I flip the phone open to answear the call and it just keeps on ringing and vibrating with he screen frozen in black until I remove the battery to make it stop!!!!! Seriously considering throwing it to the trash can.

Not a bad phone, just a bit upset that it doesn't have video recording though. Really easy to use and mine DOES play WMA songs. The speaker is indeed rubbish, but I am the type to listen to my music through the headphones though so that is not a problem for me.

In GSM Arena, the w380i can handle 4gb M2 card. However, in Sony Ericsson's website, it can only handle 2gb M2 card. So, is the w380i capable of reading/writing on a 4gb M2 card with no issues?

for all with questions about video on W380: the phone can not record the video but the phone will play video - just make sure it's a 3GP format with the sound encoded in AMR (for example video received in a MMS or recorded with a sony ericsson k608i)

Yes it can play videos. It has a video player and i play some of my 3gp vids and the demo tour vid (with176x220 frame size). But vids with higher frame size it only plays the sound. Great budget feature phone.

Hi guys, I need your opinion. Which is better the SE W880 or this? I'm just worried about this phone because I had an SE flap (the SE W300) great phone but the flap messed the screen and it would'nt work I would just get a blank screen, is this the same case with this phone? How is the music quality and is it loud on this? What is the camera like? Last thing, can I do many things at once e.g.. run a game and listen to music and i'm able to minimize it? All Sony Ericsson phones' message alert last for like, a few seconds. It's pretty stupid if a whole song is played just for one message, that's the ringtone's job. I am still about to buy this phone, not sure if I'll push through cuz I have another phone in mind (still a Sony Ericsson though: K850). One reason why I want this phone is cuz it looks awesome. Simple, but still very attractive. I usually don't turn my head for phones but this one was a big WOW! But well, most of the Sony Ericsson phones look amazing. And I also prefer Walkman phones. I currently own a W710i so if anyone knows, can you tell me if it's worth buying the W380?

I finaly got this phone(purpel) yesterday it's perfect. the real thing is much nicer than the pictures, the size is just right, the resalution of the screen is very high, the gesture controle workes all the time :), the soundes are very clear on both ends of the phone, the volume is also high, the camera is fine for a 1.3, the key pad light is great in the dark :). it doesn't fell plasticy and it opens and closes perfectly. it come with a ear phones usb cable for the computrer and a CD for some programes. it also ha some games in it (extreme air snow boarding, Quadrapop and sims 2, it also has a music DJ and music mate 2). u can also chose between 5 different themes :. the botens in the phront are very sensitive and work with a wonderfull sensation. the price is also very reasnable I'm happy I bought the phone :)

got this phone yesterday instead of the intended w580. this one is sleek, cool, handy and stylish. three colors to choose from, purple, black & grey. i chose the grey. overall i like this phone except for its 1.3 camera which the quality is much lower compare to 1.3 of other brands. SE you need to note this, else you will lose customer of different generations & needs. btw, for all readers, you will find this phone easily slip into you pant, shirt pocket, handbag etc. cheers

If the phone insists on give that information you might have one of 3 probles : either the software of your SIM is not compatible whit the software of the phone, and that only happens if the SIM card is very old, or,the SIM can not recognize the operator network, and that probably will bring your phone another problem, the battery goes down in less than a day, or it�s a phone malfunction in the SIM card reader.

This is a great phone, the only bad thing is the real bad camera, its a low quality one that cannot capture video clips. It can reproduce them tho and also its a real amazing Mp3 player. The "gestures" option is pointless and you can never use it. Its a just a little bit above average phone.

i think its bcz the sim is on not on properly, i have the same problem, it alwais says emergency calls onli, when im at work, or a place like a underground-ish place, and i hate the fact that this fone has crap speakers, i cant even hear it ringin! onli if im n a quiet area, and plus i cant look at pics and put em on my wallpaper prop, its like, its got crap resolution or something, i dunno, overall, the looks abt this phone and stuff like dat, nice.. other things, performance, usage, flexiblity, etc ... not as great, should of stuck to nokia ppl!

'E' for EDGE and 'G' is the regular GPRS, the internet service for your mobile.Edge is the faster one of the two. I dont think it is possible to get rid of the symbols(only if you dont have a mobile net activated)

W380 only support 2 GB Memory Stick Micro (M2) according to the normal technical specification on W380 is nice and good mobilephone with small handy size - of course you get more features from a more expensive sony ericsson model - so also look on extra network charges (like monthly payment if you buy the phone as part of mobile contract) - maybe the total cost is same for model with more advance features - depends on the offers and how much you use the mobile

Hi everyone, I'm from Argentina and recently bought this phone. The sound is impressive, according to be a Walkman series. I highly recommend this cel; but I must warn you: - the camera doesn't record videos. You can watch them; but not film. Since it's not a K series, the flash isn't included. But the camera, still, it's good. - the external speaker it's not very crystal. But I forgive Sony-Ericsson beacuse, after all, it's a Walkman. - Something special about the text message ringtone: IT DOESN'T PLAY FOR MORE THAN TEN SECONDS. Yeah, that's right; the text message ringtone doesn't long beyond 10". So if you use a mp3 as a text message ringtone, it won't last more than 10". I've contacted Sony-Ericcson about this, but still didn't get a reply. I'll keep you all informed. Other than that, it's a very good phone. Bye!

Checked out the W380i in a store yesterday. Unfortunately, they only had the black colour. The black colour didn't look that impressive. The keypad was also black and looked very cheap and plasticky. Overall build quality is very good but looks were not as impressive as they seem in the photos. Ultimately decided to go for the W660i which has 2 MP camera, bigger display, 3G support and comes with HPM-70 handsfree. A bit more expensive compared to W380i, but a much better deal IMHO.

the phone only support Memory Stick Micro (M2) up to 2 GB - according the technical specifications on sonyericsson.com so it waist of money of buying a bigger memory card! secondly the phone will not read the card at all or saying that files/file system are broken (you might get it to work if you only keep the use of memory card below 2 GB)

w380 works fine with 2 GB from sandisk! just get a card reader if you are going to transfer a lot of files - the usb connection with w380 seem a little slow (like usb 1 speed)

I will say the build quality is like the other sony ericsson mobile I had - maybe is w380 is little more sensitive on screen (when open) compared to my old k608i and k500 - w380 is cramshell and also thinner so the gap between the protective plastic in from the display and the actual display looks smaller than on k608i. so should probably avoid sitting on (like in having in back pocket) also w380 is not designed for kids to throw around it (it's not been tested like kids toy like nintendo has done for it's game boys) the keyboards seems better on w380 compared to my k608 - there is no problematic joystick and also no keys to accidental for w380 to go on the internet (can be very expensive then you are holidays - it have happened a few time with my k608). also w380 is better to type on compared to my older sony ericsson

Well the built quality is really cheap, my display knocked............., itself out withinh 2 days of buying the cell, had to get it replaced, sold the piece already, but the touch sensor are really great in Sony Ericsson phone. Its quite cheap overall good, but be carefull of the display.

I've bought this phone as second next to my SE P1 and I have to admit this is good! Good batterylife, walkman is terrific and it isn't slow! What more do you want for a second device....:-) The touch on the outside works perfect and is kinda cool if you compare it to my steady buss P1! For me this is a decent phone that represents fun!

for all with questions about video on W380: the phone can not record the video but the phone will play video - just make sure it's a 3GP format with the sound encoded in AMR (for example video received in a MMS or recorded with a sony ericsson k608i) there is maybe a bug in the firmware since it will not videos (like 3gp with the sound encoded in mp3) or maybe a choice by sony ericsson since the w380 is budget model. for people who has questions (or complains) about the back light on keyboard: I have the black version of W380 and the back light is much stronger than on my former sony ericssons models (k500 and k608) so the keyboard is clearly visible in dark surroundings

This is the biggest pile of pants they have ever done, 1, no video 2, keypad is made of flimsy plastic, 3,keypad lighting is virually non existant,4, my 4 year old has better build quality fisher price phones, trust me dont buy it, heres the thing, i had a w300i two years ago, an older phone yes with only a vga camera but everything else was tip top. SE have gone right down in my estimation with their lower price phones. Lets hope they dont turn out anymore of this pap.

1) In response to the concern for the '3.5mm phone jack' it does have it. Only thing is it's on the actual (interchangeable) headpone cord which has been a normal feature since walkman phones by SE were made. (I think). 2) according to a thorough review that I read....... ..........It doesn't seem to have any of the fitness/shake control features.

Anybody dare to comment on the following two questions? They're essential to me, but don't ever get answered for any phone in any review. 1.) Is there a notification for missed calls / messages, e.g. blinking LED, message on external display *without* having to press a key or flip it open? 2.) What's the quality and loudness of the earpiece like in everyday situations? My current Philips has such a low volume it's almost impossible to make a call when you're out on the street. My ancient Samsung E700 and Siemens S25 (anyone remember these?) were much better in that respect.

love the phone! but 2 fatal flaws! 1st is outside display in strong daylight is impossible to see, 2nd is keypad lights are not strong enough so characters on edge of keys especially right hand side are hard to view. still keeping mines though!! the camera for a 1.3 mp is very good, nicely styled, good specs all round, but sony please do check out those problems! 8 out of 10, should have been a strong 9!

What a unique phone. I bought two - one for myself and the missus. The phone isn't as loud as I'd like but the 1.3mp camera is QUALITY! It beats most sub �100 handsets easily. Very good design with all the trimmings of SE walkamn software also inc the Sims 2 Game! The phone is well built bar 2 flaws, the back panel is flimsy and you have to take it off to get at the memory card and the oled outside display isn't clear when out doors.

i got this phone, and honestly i like it alot. If u guys are gonna bitch about video recording or all that other stuff, then get a camcorder. IT IS A PHONE, its purpose to make calls, and having a mp3 player on it is a big plus. but thats all a phone should really have. plus it looks attractive too. If u guys complain about how slow its moving, or how stuff isnt animated, then get a computer not a phone. It has good battery life, a very very good mp3 player. And u know what the camera isnt even that bad, its pretty good for a 1.3. But if that is a problem for you people. then u dont want a phone. get a camera

There is no video recording on this phone. Also the UI isn't animated (the icons don't 'pulse' and there's no smooth scrolling) which I think is a first for Walkmans. Even the W200 did that...what a shame...

He man I own a W910i but I'm surely amazed b it but also by this new W380i wich I think shares alot of design similarities with the W380i. As for the functions it is certainly going to be the best phone in it's class. some features I'm sure of it has: walkman player 2.0 -Track ID -very powerfull processor like all SE's -So it will easily manage 3D games -Allot of flash themes check this out and drool :P -512 Mb M2 card in standard pack -Very good screen like W710's - 1.3 megapxl cam with video support All in all I think we might just have a winner here! And yes sure a 1.3 mpxl camera might sound poor but this phone will go around for 149 us dollars, and crushes nearly all it's competition such as the cheaper nokia folders and samsung flipphones it even makes the V3i look like garbage W300i was pretty popular and I think W380i will continue doing that, I really like everyones positive reaction to this phone on Gsmarena. avinersan,, I keep on about that in other forums about mp count...They rave on about the ?? fone has only 3 megapixel and this one has 5 mp,,well for one most people never even print their pictures out, and second,in the past we only printed out 6x4 inch prints and two mp is good enuf and i dont know anyone using poster size prints that would account for using such high megapixel... The other point i make is that its the lenses and alogorithm that also are paramount in the picture quality..If a 10 megapixel fone was releaes in uk tommorow they would buy just because of showing off it would be a really bad picture with noise and dark..The only good fone is the sharp 903 with 3.2 mp its got five glass lenses and a ccd chip and copes well and can still hold its own today.

why do people alwis talk about things they don't know i will never know the more you incres the megapixel count on a camera with a sensor of this size the more you will actualy degrade the image (less light will come in and so on) for example on a dslr with 1/100 @ f4 you will actualy get aprox double he light when you compare to a bridge (p&s)camera (the fuji 6500 for ex) and becouse it hase to deal with an image of this size it will be sloweer and .... once and for all understand that megapixels are important only if you print verry large or if you crop

i've been looking forward to this phone for ages now... but checking the Australian and UK SE sites, no bluetooth? The screen, the camera was bad enough... but was willing to sacrifice due to the sexy flip design i've been waiting forever in an SE phone. But no bluetooth... that's just too far! I had this phone last 2 weeks and what can I say about this phone well this phone is cool bec. it has an GPRS, HSCD, has an EDGE, Bluetooth, USB, FM Radio, Track Id Music Recognition, the sounds are really loud bec. it is a Walkman Player, built-in Handsfree, and it has a free 512MB card included and the internal memory is 14MB and the memorystick of this phone supports 2GB.

To SE SE should think about re-producing some of the recent mobile modes currently available to be reproduced with NO CAMERA specially the Non-Bar style. I searched for SE phone with no camera and couldn�t find any new production (last was year 2005). Therefore I had to buy other brand, but being used to SE high standers, I end up not satisfied with what I got. Please consider this request as many people work in restricted areas or in need for SE phones with no camera. Thanks

There are such a thing as different price brackets. Not everyone desires or can afford a high end phone. Wait, do you understand what low, mid or high tier is? Judging by the posts here, I doubt so. Not everyone is as lucky to be able to afford an N95 or K850, or desires to blow a hole in the wallet for a phone when they only desire basic features. Hence this phone has its place and looks like a worthy successor of the W200.

I don't understand why everyone is moaning about the camera on this phone. Who cares? You want a decent camera, GO BUY ONE. I have a Cybershot 6mp digital camera...therefore, the camera on a phone does not dictate the kind of phone I have. Unless you fork out for either a Cybershot phone - K810 or K850, or the latest Samsung G800, any other camera, whether 2 or 3mp will be absolute pants in comparison to a digital camera. I have a Nokia 6500 with a 2mp camera and a flash...and it's still pants. Just like the so-called 5mp camera on the Samsung G600...also pants. The number of megapixels DOES NOT dictate the camera quality. It's the quality of the optics, hence why the Nokia phones with a Carl Zeiss lens have always been very good. And quite frankly, any number of megapixels in a camera is useless without an optical zoom, which only the Nokia N93 and Samsung G800 have managed to incorporate so far. So get a grip, people. If you want to take serious photos, just go buy a digital camera and buy whatever phone takes your fancy.

I hope SE will have the time and the technology to implement & or add these features into the final release version of this attractive W380i phone, namely: Quad band + HSDPA, 240x320 TFT screen, 20+ MB shared internal memory, A2DP Bluetooth, 2+ MP digital camera, as well as these unlisted essentials: Alarm, Calculator, Calendar, Composer, Flight mode, Notes, Stopwatch, Timer, & Reminders among others. I do understand they want to sell this model at a low price with its current specs. Hopefully this phone will become a model not solely for the 'music-lover' folk only. Sony Ericsson Designers, you still have time to change your mind!

Just to let all of you know, this phone has the three optic keys in the front of the clamshell: when you touch, a small vibration occurs. To mute a call, wave your hand ontop of the phone (not touching it) to mute the call. Amazing for a low-end phone. That's why it's only 1.3 mp, because it's low end. BIG WASTE...only 1.3megapixel camera and what's more, it's protruding out from the cover. Other than that, very nice design and colour applications.

SOOOOO CUTE PHONE!!!...Hope that they would release a phone like this that has 2mp or 3mp camera (w/ flash or light) and a larger screen (2-2.4 inches)...W830 and K660 is so much different from previous SE Phones...more child friendly phone/cute phones!!!!
